Reviews of Ivar's Acres of Clams
Liz Wilson
We ate lunch here during a weekday in November, so we basically had the place to ourselves. But, during peak season, they have plenty of room to hold tons of patrons. This restaurant is massive, and their waiting area was large and looked very comfortable. The food was spectacular (we just had the clam chowder, but it was perfectly made). You can't beat the views either. Right next to the water (and close to the pier), you can watch boats come and go, including the ferry. The staff was very attentive and friendly. Even the bathrooms, which I judge harshly, were huge, clean, and capable of handling many guests. Overall, 10 out of 10.

Let's get right to it - this is very much a "touristy" spot but it's great! The food was absolutely tasty and the views just made it all that much better. We had a reservation and though they had to move people in from the rain which put a wait on some reservations, they were still quick to get it sorted!
The halibut panko crusted fish and chips are amazing! The prawn appetizer was so good we got 2!
A great place to go if you're not from Seattle and want a bit of an ambiance of the coast while you eat.

Location, location, location! Sit outside if weather permits! You can watch the ferries. Parking is a rip-off across the street at $30 for 2-hours. Better off to find somewhere else. Food was great but place can be a little pricey. Service was good. Nice vibe! BIG PLACE.

Finished the 1 boat tour and asked for a recommendation. Everyone we asked sent us to Ivar's and it did not disappoint. Mrs had the clam chowder and Pier 52. I got the baby steak and it was all delicious.
I have to admit that we were pleasantly surprised that all the recommendations worked out. The place was not busy at all but the food was amazing. You have to try it and for sure try the clam chowder.

This is an iconic institution that is worth a visit every time we come to Seattle. The view of the Sound is great. The customer service is stellar. The selection is perfect. And the seafood is delicious. I always have to have their chowder, no matter what the entree is. Today in was the salmon sandwich. (If you’re a salmon lover, you can’t go wrong with this selection.

I give Acres of Clams 3.5 stars. The seafood choices are really good at Ivar's Acres of Clams. It's a huge restaurant with a huge indoor dining room and a large patio. There is also a bar. While the food is good, there is a sense of being somewhat rushed since it's a large restaurant. This was true even though we were early and the restaurant and the patio were not close to being full. Nice beverages also. Otherwise, the restaurant seems to operate like a chain restaurant.

06/17/2022: First time visiting. We sat in the bar for happy hour. The guys ordered beers and I had a cocktail with rum, pineapple juice, and grenadine. We also shared an order of fish and chips and steamed clams... absolutely delicious! Our server was welcoming, friendly, and attentive. We enjoyed our quick visit... thank you!

Took the ferry over to Seattle for the afternoon to spend the day shopping and eating at my favorite restaurant, Ivar's. They seated me in the cocktail bar. I ordered a lemon drop and a fresh strawberry, feta, sliced almonds and seasonal beet salad, with a light vinegarette. Delish! I also, ordered a cup of their famous Clam Chowder and it never disappoints. This was the first time I've been seated in the bar area and it was clean, plenty of additional tables that seat 4 and the bar area itself. The wait staff were friendly and professional. Thank you for a great experience.

The food and vibe were pretty good, but the service we received made us felt a little differentiated due to our ethnicity. Our waiter/waitress was pretty passionate and talkative with other tables except for us. Next time we would probably grab and go from the fast food next door instead…
Carol Mackin
Pricey, but you're on waterfront, there's a good amount of food served & it's fresh. Waiter very friendly! Menu is based on supply so can fluctuate (limited one page on day we visited.
Place itself is HUGE! They said 10 min wait, but actually 5ish. Ordered fish n chips - lightly breaded & fried cod (different texture than was expecting). Calamari app and clam chowder both good. Has a selection of drinks (wines, beers, cocktails, ciders. Order the marionberry cider (hadn't seen before)- light and refreshing.

There are 2 Ivar's side by side. One is just a stall with covered seating on the side and the one next door is a sit-down restaurant. This review is for the sit-down restaurant. The restaurant was very spacious with lots of seating space. We had a reservation but I am guessing we may not have needed one. Our server was Jason and the service was spot on. He was funny, prompt and made suggestions. We tried the following:
1. Clam Chowder - The best I have ever eaten!
2. Spicy Prawns - These were super yummy as well especially the sauce they came in. The prawns were fresh, soft, very well made
3. Cod Fish n Chips - This was mediocre sadly; not much flavor. We wanted the cajun one but they said that they only sell that next door at the stall. You could tell that the cod was fresh though. The accompanying fries were nice.
4. Grilled 10oz New York Strip Steak - We asked for medium and this was made perfectly. The meat was fresh and soft. We liked it.
Apeksha
Amazing seafood with amazing views. Enjoyed every bite of the clam, fish and chips and salmon entrée. Definitely this is a must do restaurant when you visit Seattle. The views are to die for. The interiors are pretty historic too.
Teeradej L
Went there with a company of 2, cod and salmon are great, fries too. We have also ordered white clam soups which are incredible, creamy and rich in taste. You can also feed the seagull with your leftover fries by throwing them out in the air and let them catch.(do not feed seagull on the table + feed the pigeon is prohibited)
Drinks are refillable.

Iconic sit down restaurant, with seating overlooking water. A stop each time I visit Seattle. Top shelf service and delicious food. Good mixed drink options, wine and beer. This visit we enjoyed happy hour fish and chips, delicious clam chowder and steamed clams. Topped off with cream brulee.

Clam chowder at a more nicer place.
Lovely setting and ambience like of that you see in the movies where couple go for a nice and lovely date.
Very family restaurant as well spacious.
Just beside the place I had my lunch as well.
It was absolutely delicious as what I expected it to be. Totally warmed up my soul from the freezing night there.
The class there are alright in there.
It was thick and with the crackers it make such a good and tasty light dinner.
Did not try other stuff as I was still full from.the munching around The pike market.
Bill Allan
We had a wonderful lunch here. Fish and chips, clam chowder, clams, and grilled shrimp. Each plate was delightful! Service was impeccable, and even the cocktails were appropriately strong. I would absolutely recommend this sit down dining experience.
Melissa Thiel
Food was delicious. Ordered the clam chowder and it lives up to it's reputation as silky and tasty! Had the cider which phenomenal. Ordered the fish and chips as well as the Risotto. Wonderful! Service was friendly and knowledgeable.
Sam Cullis
My first time trying clam chowder and I loved it. Shame you can't get it fresh like this in the UK! Great views of the harbour too with the boats coming in and out. Great place to stop for a meal.
Josh Williams
Stopped in while in town and tried the oysters, clams, and fish and chips. All were very good. Great scenery out on the water with views of the bay. Great friendly staff. Stop by you will enjoy the meal.

Fantastic experience! Whenever I visit Seattle, I make a stop at Ivars. This last time it was for work and our entire team had a wonderful time. I ordered the chowder (must have) and the truffle halibut. Absolutely scrumptious!
richard flowers jr.
Made last minute plans to eat here and it wasn't a bad decision. We ordered the Salmon with Asparagus and Roasted Potatoes and the Crusted Halibut with Pea Risotto and boy was it delicious 😋 …
Jake Robins
This restaurant is incredible! Stunning views as it sits right on the water. The restaurant itself is just such a vibe! And the food is killer! I got the grilled salmon with carrot and cardamom sauce and it was melt-in-your-mouth good. Potatoes were crisp and green beans were perfect. The service was also quick and friendly. ‘It’s a bit pricey. But a must-try if you like seafood and you’re in Seattle!
Brendan Ostrom
Wonderful atmosphere and location right on the pier. Staff were extremely friendly and were able to get my group and I in without a reservation very quickly.
Our server was knowledgeable on the menu and provided great drink and appetizer recommendations, as well as surrounding areas to visit (we’re from out of state).
The food itself came out quick and tasted fresh and cooked well with plentiful flavor and good portion sizes.
Would definitely recommend visiting here if you get the chance. Also, if possible, try and get a table outside! There’s a beautiful deck area with a wonderful view of the water.
Corey
Food and ambiance was great. More on the expensive side so if you want to indulge in fresh seafood then don’t be surprised. Spicy vodka margarita was not so good so I would avoid it next time.
Judith King
Pricing, portion size, experience, and OMG the flavor 🙌 I had fish and chips 🔥 and I am NOT a chowder fan of any kind and the Claim Chowder was amazing 👊 Shrimp cocktail was nothing like we expected 😬 but I really liked it. It had layers celery shrimp cocktail with a lime❤️
Terry Huang
Such a lovely place. The service is great, and the food taste great. I had the seared Alaskan Halibut, but was a little over cooked. Though not perfect, still 85%.
craig morris
I live right down Alaskan Way from Ivar's fish bar and have to say they do a really nice job. On cold, rainy winter days nothing beats picking up a tanker of their famous clam chowder and a basket of their Wild Alaska Pollock fish and chips to keep you warm on the inside and a give you a smile on the outside. As a "local", I can say Ivar's is about as authentic as Seattle seafood gets.
Sharon Doyle
This is a huge restaurant with a full bar area. Service is friendly and prompt. Atmosphere is relaxing with a lot of dark wood and an intimate fireplace. Pleasant ocean views are available in the back of the restaurant. The specialty is clams.
Frankie Whitaker
Typical tourist restaurant. Extremely busy but the service was fast and we only waited 20 minutes for a table. The food was ok, nothing to write home about. The waterfront views were nice. If you're hungry and in the area it's an ok option.
shantidut bansode
I went here specifically for chowder and boy they dont not let you down!!! I have only had couple of them but I am damn sure the chowder they offer here, is the best. It's rich and creamy and lots of clams in it.

Food is absolutely delicious. Three of us went. We got calamari, clam chowder, cod, and Alaskan halibut. Everything is fresh and delicious. It is not for everyday eating but a nice treat.
Erica Daniels
This was the best fish place I’ve ever been to. I got the clams and halibut. Very nice and friendly staff. Overall Amazing!
Charley Oxley
Delicious spot for clam chowder that is on the water front. It seems local but is dressed up these days to make a bit more fine dining but honestly the menu is a bit typical. The clam chowder was great and the mussels in a curry sauce were yummy but nothing was mind blowing. Large dining area and large kitchen means typical chain restaurant feel. But worth a stop to grab a cup of chowder on a cold day!
chichi gates
Ordered:
Clam Chowder
Fish & Chips
Cioppino
Clam Chowder was great. In fact, I probably would have been better off with more of the Chowder as my dinner.
The Cioppino was good, not great.
The Fish and Chips (3 pcs) was too much for 1 but, we were given the impression by our Server that the serving pcs, were small (as he was showing us with his fingers/hand).
Nope, order the 2 pcs. and if you plan to share, get the 3 pcs..
Service was quick and ok.
We did make prior reservations for 6:45pm on a Saturday.
To be sure, I would recommend making one.
Would I dine there again?
If I wanted great views, atmosphere and comfort, then I would.
But, I will probably try other seafood restaurants.
Right by the water so dining views are an added premium and with restaurant's woodsy, nautical decor, a good experience.

Ivar's is an iconic staple at the Seattle waterfront. From a recommendation my driver had, I visited this location, which was a very pleasant surprise. Inside was warm, welcoming, and clean. The staff was super nice, professional, and fast. Drinks and food were delicious. As an outsider, I had an amazing time. The quality that I witnessed and enjoyed, was top shelf. The fish was crispy, flakey, and not heavy. The fries were crisp, light and seasoned well. When in the area again, I'll be sure to return.
Jonathan Ristola
Food was f**king amazing! View is gorgeous. Sisters were a little too thrilled to pose for a food pic. 🙃
Brian is an amazing server with awesome drink suggestions!
The watermelon mojito was delicious and the summer peach will have me coming back for sure 😋
Emilia Wloch
The food was pretty good; however portion sizes were surprisingly small. Too bad the outdoor patio was closed even though the weather was great ( I guess staffing problems). Overall, nice waterfront restaurant with a food selection of fresh seafood.
Addy
Although I do not enjoy tourist traps and 100% thought that this was a tourist trap, I had a fantastic time. Great service, actually great food, and all around awesome. Sometimes I find places like this are only known for its location and usually have mediocre food but everything was phenomenal.
Update:
We've returned twice since and have been disappointed both times. The second time we got the trio fish entree and salmon and on our third visit, we decided to try the Cioppino and calamari. All of the dishes were really disappointing. The food was bland and mediocre at best. Our salmon was overcooked and the Cioppino was really not great. They used to provide bread before but I guess they stopped giving out bread on our third visit. I'm not sure we'll be back. The only dish we enjoyed might've been the fish and chips.
Shawn Ang
Kids friendly. Seafood is really fresh and well prepared. Fish and chip was a little small but quality is definitely amazing.
Alishia Mccoll
Service was very nice, and the food wasnt to bad. I would eat there again but wouldnt go out of my way for it next time. Two drinks and two appetizer was $65.
J tC
Service was great so does the food, and the best, it's not expensive!!. I had the calamari (tasty!), the wild Alaska salmon BLT and the Huckleberry drop. Definitely I do recommend this place.
Melanie Macias
There was no wait, the restaurant is beautiful inside. We asked for a window seat and were rewarded with a great sunset. The Halibut fish and chips were good, only complaint the fish panko coating was a little more hard than crispy and delicate.
Alan King
After a stuff up on the waitlist where our names weren't put on the list and we sat waiting. The rest of the experience was very good. Attentive service and nice food.
Diana M
Heard about this place and how popular it is for it's fish and chips. I decided to give them a try over the clam chowder. Gotta say I was impressed. Everything was crisp to perfection. I also had an order of baby prawns. The only con I have was the rude guy who was annoyed because I asked for ketchup & lemon. My bag only had 2 and I wanted 2 more. Other than that everything else was good.
Kris David Valencia
Great spot for some damn good chowder. Awesome views on a sunny day.
Come early to avoid waits.
Fish and chips are piping hot and specials rotate with the season.
Chrissi Prom
I was told this was a “must eat” in Seattle and they were right. Very good fish and chips! Not too greasy. Fast and friendly service, good seating on the pier… watch out for the seagulls though!
Christie Ray Harrison
The prices are pretty steep and the wait for a table can take a while for setup even when there’s open tables, but it’s worth those factors to sit outside by the bay with an *acre of clams* and a beer — or go sit at the bar at happy hour for $8 draft beers and then migrate outside for a dinner table with a view.
Brett W
Don’t miss the shrimp cocktail! That was amazing. We also enjoyed fish and chips, the magnificent view, the great prices, and the fast, friendly service.
C S R
Went on a weekday late noon place was almost empty but i left pretty full! Crab cakes were fenomenal full of meat, trio main dish had well balanced portions of fish. Mashed potato truly tasty rich with flavor like me ma’ made back home. I will definitely come back next time i’m visiting seattle.
Dwight Watkins
Clam chowder was great. I had the Cod fish and chips, pan seared halibut, vegetable curry, and halibut fish and chips.
Charles McDonald
This was a pleasant surprise in the heart of the Seattle tourist zone. The restaurant was spacious and beautiful in warm wood tones, and the views from the windows are great. The main surprise was in how good the food is. I had the Alaskan halibut served at the perfect temperature, moist and flaky, with a salsa verde. My husband had a beautiful cut of salmon with a ginger carrot purée. Our friends enjoyed the eponymous Acre of Clams, which was 2 lbs of Manilla clams in delicious broth. We all said we'd consider Ivar's again.
Tiffany H
My favorite restaurant in the Seattle area. My dad used to take me here when I was little and now I take my son here all the time. We went to eat here yesterday and like always, the food was perfect and David R and Christopher were both so friendly.
Chris Roybal
Great location, you're definitely paying for that. It's a nice restaurant but $26 for 4 small pieces of cod with a basket of fries is a bit overpriced. The fish and chips was good but not great, mediocre. Service was good, and clam chowder was good too. Glad I visited but would not visit again.
Danny Tram
It was my first time here, and Ivar knows how to serve its customers well. I enjoyed the fish and chips; they were very crispy and delicious. You have a chance to watch the ferry and seagull since they have a great location along the Coast. I highly suggest people come to this place
Zack S
Seafood and great chowder by the water whats not to love. It was busy when I went other then that it was great.
Gordon Craig
Lovely food in a slick operation that makes it feel personal. Clam starter was historic and the trio of salmon, halibut and prawns was delicious. Jason was a friendly server. Not cheap however.
Sagnik Nath
Pretty great seafood place! Fine dining experience at a reasonable price
Jasmijn Kösters
Great views, amazing service and the food is also very good. I would recommend it and would go back myself.
If the weather allows it try to sit outside, it’s beautiful.
sabrina bayha
Nice resteraunt with good views. The staff was excellent. We didnt go for a wole meal, just appetizers and drinks. We had steamed clams in a butter wine sauce. Plus clam seafood dip with bread. Both had really good flavor.I still gotta try their famous clam chowder.
Mark N
Food here is very good, highly recommend the halibut fish and chips and the clam chowder.
Kyle Choy
There are honestly better places to get seafood in Seattle. Ivar's is all about the experience. This location has an amazing view, especially from the outdoor deck, but the food is way overpriced for the quality and quantity you are getting.
Abbie Colussi
Great place. They were quick to seat us. Server was nice and friendly. I had the World Famous Fish and Chips. They were great. Not greasy and the fries were perfect. My son had clam chowder and he said it was really good. I had a huckleberry lemonade that was refreshing and hit the spot. We sat inside but still had a beautiful view. Will visit again.
Kevin Paul
Nice restaurant in the midst of the Seattle waterfront. You can see the ferry come in and go all the time. The menu is pretty limited but decent seafood. The fish and chips were great and are the must try here. The drinks were okay, nothing to go back for. I would go back for the fish and chips however.
Kyle Smetanka
Overall great experience! We sat outside and ordered beers, an appetizer and two entrees. The beer was cold and selection pretty wide ranging. The white wine clam appetizer was a good size for two people and delicious. For entrees we had the fresh halibut special and blackened salmon ceaser salad. Delicious food overall and good portions. I need to get better at taking pictures. Lastly service was superb - quick and efficient, very happy we ended up going here!
chandra mandava
I went with my team for dinner. We got the seating inside, but if you can manage the outdoor seating facing the bay, you would have great views. I had acres of clams and a Shrimp apetizer..Triple fish (salmon, haliburt and something I don't remember) for entree..food is decent...give it a shot..
Evanyell E
The halibut was absolutely divine. We had a table near the Windows and were able to watch the seagulls being fed. The cocktails were good and it was probably one of the most relaxing dining experiences of our trip to seattle. The waitress was very attentive and the food was perfect.
J and B
Great views, clam chowder was amazing, awesome drinks! Highly recommend!
Ken Sarna
Great service and wonderful food. They seated us right before closing and then allowed us to sit outside since it was our Anniversary. All the food was what we expected and the service was great! Ken Sarna recommends Iver's Acres of Clams in Seattle!

Amazing service. Our waiters name was James, and he noticed we were from Hawaii and said that he was visiting Maui. We had a lot of small talk, and he even gave us clam chowder on the house! We only came for the clam chowder so we felt bad for not ordering anything else. We tipped him $100. James is an amazing guy, and he should definitely get a raise. He really made our day with his kindness and we hope to see him again one day. James if you read this, thank you so much. He even hugged us with no hesitation at the end. All from the heart ❤️
Shane Moore
I was expecting a hut on the pier that sold clam chowder. When we walked into the restaurant, I was stunned. Everything was delicious and everyone was so nice. I can not praise this place enough.
Brendan Hennessy
Absolutely one of the best and most iconic places to stop in Seattle! I’ve been stopping here since I moved to Washington at about 8 years old and I’ve absolutely have never had a bad experience here. I’ve actually spent a couple birthdays in Seattle and every time I go I always have to make a stop to get some of their fresh fires which are absolutely delicious! They’re always so kind and make every little experience absolutely worth it! Thank you guys for being a huge part of my Washington experience!
JC
Very fresh halibut fish n chips, great clam chowder, and best of all kind and thoughtful service from our service person. Seating was outdoors over looking Elliott Bay.
stephanie spinler
Would have ate alot more, was delicious, service was great, able to take care of our group of 20, it was a great time.
Tim Taravella
Good dinner, really cool space. Touristy, but local and MUCH better than other similar places. LOVE the glass dividers, such a cool way to incorporate photos of the restaurant and family history! Great staff!
Valeriya Kozak
Amazing view and tasty food. Crab and shrimp dip was veeery good.
Josh Koblich
Honestly, with such a high amount of favorable reviews I was expecting a lot out of this place. The food was decent and fresh, but the portion sizes were very small for the price. We spent almost $200 on dinner for two and yet we left feeling hungry and not very satisfied. I guess it makes sense why this was the only seafood restaurant in Seattle that wasn't completely reserved all weekend.
La Grande Leo
Fairly disappointing. Of course it’s a landmark so there’s always a line. I took the « alaskan real cod », an ice tea, a side, and paid above 20$.
Went to the side seating which is nice and protected from the road.
The fish itself was good. The breading was way, way over salted. The fries were nothing to remember. The ice tea was good.
And I got sick all afternoon after eating there…
I’m glad I didn’t risk myself to get the oysters…
In short - do take a picture of the restaurant as it does look nice. But there are plenty of other locations where you would get better food around there…
David cox
Great service comfortable atmosphere great views of the water, best clam strips ever.
Ashley Balaneski
Came in from Canada, needed a place to get away from the rain. Staff was super friendly. Ordered the fish and chips, the fish was the size of my thumb. It was basically fries with a garnish of fish. And the coleslaw? Think of a loaded baby diaper, soggy and wet, it tasted like it was left outside for 10 days. The clam chowder.. it was a whole cup of cream, no “clam.” The crab dip tasted like cheese and had small pieces of shrimp in it. Gave me canned seafood vibes. No crab taste at all, waste of $20. The only thing I really enjoyed was the fries. Not worth your while if looking for mid seafood. Very disappointing knowing they’re right beside the ocean.
Jerilynn Boyles
The food, clams, were delicious and strawberry lemonade. Our waitress was adorable and attentive. Beautiful view from our dining window overlooking the water. Ferry boats coming and going right beside the restaurant. Lovely experience.
Kalan Guiley
I attended an event with about 30 people in the private room, and it was excellent! The food was delicious, the drinks were good and the service was fast, friendly and attentive. We were able to order from the full menu and they handled our large group like the pros they are!
Britton Kimmet
Great everything! My mother and I choose this place to have some seafood. We both had clam chowder, then I had steak and scallops, and my mother had a meal that included a little bit of halibut, shrimp, and salmon. The sides were roasted brussel sprouts. The server was kind, professional and made us feel welcome and not like another number on a table. Also a water front view table. A little pricey but this place is worth it if you have the extra cash and want a truly good experiance.
Justin Regeimbal
Amazing clam chowder! Fish n chips were a little off though but still very tasty!!!
D W
good service, the white wine clams is kinda too winey, calamari is has thick flour covered, which i don’t like
Buggy
One of my go to place for cocktail Shrimps, my favorite here. You get a nice view of the water and a family friendly atmosphere. They also open late and have a bar if you want a drink. The bar also takes walk in’s if there’s a long wait for the table. Friendly staff and delicious food
kyle r
A Seattle institution - could easily be a tourist trap but it isn't! The service was great, the food was good and our large group was supported very well. Our server went out of their way to ensure that we were looked after.
Derek De Groot
Shared a very special mid day luncheon with loved ones at this Seattle icon. Clam chowder is superb. Alaskan halibut as an entree was prepared perfectly. Our waiter, Ray, provided excellent recommendations and service. A fitting conclusion to our family visit. Thank you.
Paddy Bradley
We were on the patio on a beautiful evening. The food was good but our waiter was not. He clearly knew how to serve tables, he just didn't care. He spilled some of my drink setting it down and didn't clean it up, my partner had to find someone else to get a cloth. He put down our meals and asked if we needed anything then walked away before we had a chance to think. Then he didn't come back until we were finished and gave us water with the bill ...a little late. It was off-putting.
Yuval K
The food is very fat and mostly fried. The clam chowder was good and also good service and nice view of the water and port.
Hendrik Weyer
We read about Ivar‘s in our tour guide and were sceptical because tourist attractions are usually overpriced and not good.
But Ivar‘s is different. Great setting and very tasty food. Not the usual disgrace of american Fish&Chips but actually fresh mussels, fish and crab in a nice sauce. The waiter seemed to be new but was very friendly and helpful. He actually recommended to add half a local crab to our chosen dish for only a little extra cost. Great value for money, even though it is pricey. Fresh fish is rather expensive anywhere you go.
A perfect experience for our last evening in Seattle.
Lura Leigh Widell
Food was delicious. Service was amazing! We had the most attentive waiter, I didn't get his name though.
They seemed to be very well staffed but closed at 9pm on a Saturday. This is very unfortunate as the pier was very busy with people. As we left (after 9) there were 2 couples that wanted to dine but we're turned away.
Julian Araneda
Food was great and location was amazing. Our server on the other hand was passive aggressive and rude for what seemed like no apparent reason. Maybe it’s cause we’re from Canada and this is our first time here but he was short with us and at the end of the night when trying to ask how the tipping worked he straight up walked away and ignored us. A shame as I was willing to tip a ton of money. Otherwise solid fish and I enjoyed my stay
Marc Milrod
Huge dining area. Large outdoor deck for the good weather. They've been frying things for decades, so, don't doubt that they are REALLY good at it. AND, have had time to get good at a whole lot of other items
Leola Benson
I was seated in the bar area where I watched football game on one screen TV and Sounder play on another screen TV. I ordered beet salad two-piece fish and chip and a cocktail. The food was delicious the waitress it's nice and friendly. I enjoyed myself ☺️
Micheal Alvarez
As always, food was delicious, service was fantastic, drinks well made and not watered-down
Bazis 98
Didn't take any photos of the restaraunt itself, only the views 😎
Food was great though!
Gerald Pickford
Great location for tourists. But as a local, that makes parking a little difficult and expensive. One of the best happy hours on the waterfront. Food is good and service is generally solid.
seerung chaijitwanitkul
Be aware of how will they treat you, it’s opposite of how they ‘Smile’ to you. We are a group of asian and latin. On Nov 3rd, it was raining and a bit cold. Well, they sat us far from everyone else with a ceiling fan near by. The server came to drop food and disappeared. When it’s time to leave, we couldn’t find anyone around (because nobody walked by our table). My son had to wave his hand to catch anyone attention, no luck, so I asked him to walk to the kitchen and looked for anybody to make a check. Great experience how American treat foreigners, and it’s the country that claims for equality and no racist.
Anyway, all the food were fresh, good tastes and also in nice view even when it’s raining.
Ally Buckman
Good food with a great view. We ate here before catching the ferry to Bainbridge Island
Charlotte Connelly
This place is amazing! I had halibut (which I've never had before) and roasted brussel sprouts (which I usually hate, but were lovely!). The guys were awesome and the fires were burning. Great place!
K J
We had a great meal. We had the steak and the salmon with the blueberry vinaigrette. If you like cabs, recommend the cosmic Egg cab sav. Great serving staff, can’t forget the food. Server had great knowledge.
Ricardo Rogerio
Good food and price. The view is amazing

It’s like $20 a person but you’re not just paying for clam chowder with fish and chips.
You are paying for the whole Seattle experience.
Feeling brave? Eat by the docks and watch the gulls do a bird action remake of the Hunger Games.
Angel Kinzig
Skip this place & go to the Ivar's next door. This restaurant is supposed to be a bit higher class by being indoors & sitting down having wait staff but they call out orders when ready which is out of place for this kind of place & had a group of very loud guest that made the stay unworthy. The food was fine although $20 & nothing to write about. Too many other good places to stop here... keep walking!
Anthony Reed
Very good clam chowder and blackened salmon cesar salad. Staff was very friendly and on top of their game. Line can be long so check out the bar to see if seating is available. It saved us a 20 minute wait.
Maggie Hagen
We loved Ivar’s 4 years ago so we were happy do come back. But we won’t be back again. We had reservation but still had to wait 20 minutes because guy at the entrance “didn’t push the button” in their iPad. No apology either. Bad service, appies came before drink, martini dry had lime instead of olives ( even if it was requested) and the glass wasn’t proper martini glass. My husband’s portion was dramatically small. Food was tasty though.

Prob 4.5, my first time here. Huge place and lovely deco very inviting. best if can sit outside.. nice place to find with the water nearby and better see the sunset! But no eating allowed today. Food was good esp their famous clam chowder and fish chips! The Alaska cod was great! Pity the coleslaw was a small portion but fries many many!! And sustainable and organic focus!! V lovely place will come back... enjoy
Brandon Pratt
Great food and great atmosphere!
We were seated after a short wait. The restaraunt is much bigger than it appears on the outside. We sat on the deck and were treated to an amazing sunset as we ate our dinner.
The clams were simply amazing! This was my wife's first time eating them and there is now no looking back.
Highly reccomend this restaraunt if you ever find yourself in Seattle.
Courtney Wright
The menu is small and over priced. You'd think for a bill over 80 dollars that your fish and chips would at least be hot and fresh.. nope! Both my fries and fish tasted like it had been sitting under a heater for 15 mins prior to getting to my table and the Caesar salad was soggy and didn't taste great!! Very disappointed since this was supposed to be my fancy birthday dinner.
Jia Hui Wang
We had the fish and chips and the prawns and chips. Everything was reasonably tasty, nothing standout but nothing bad either. I wouldn’t go out of my way to come back but I’d definitely stop by for lunch if I was in the area
Jamie Loper
Outstanding. Last night in Seattle. Headed out to Ivar's for a birthday dinner with friends. The wait time was reasonable; about 10 minutes. We were seated near the windows and had Corey as our server. He wasn't as attentive as I'd prefer but he was busy so, it was tolerable. We all ordered different things and kind of shared... well, I may have been the one requesting to try everything. Mussels, sirloin, shrimp, clams, and some whiskeys. Everything was fresh and delicious. The food came out in a timely manner. Price is reasonable for what you get. Highly recommend.
Ashley Gore
Beautiful dining on the pier. The food was fantastic -we split a Caesar salad, the crab & goat cheese dip, coconut shrimp, and the mussels. Every single thing was amazing. On top of that, we received the best service from the moment we stepped into the door. A definite must do!
eddie ruiz
Loved this place. Great ambience with spectacular views. The staff was great and super friendly. The food is superb. Great seafood choices and great drink menu. Excellent Clam Chowder. Best part is that you can dine in or order to go in outside section of restaurant ( which has under canopy seating). Here you can feed the seagulls.
Madeline Gallagher
The food is great but the service is INCREDIBLE! I left my purse behind and then went to the airport to fly to NY not realizing until it was too late. They found it and paid to overnighted it to my address in NY. Not a single thing missing or out of place. I am so thankful and I would support them a hundred times over. THANK YOU!!
Jack Sung
Not crowded at all. Service was excellent. Food was great. Excellent red king crab legs and mussels as appetizers. Actually one of the best mussels I ever had.
We were seated at a table with a great view! Most of the tables had views. Our server was very good..our lunches were excellent! Our server started by bringing us over some wonderful sourdough bread.
Ivar's is the go to for seafood in Seattle. It did not disappoint.
Gilbert O'Sullivan
Very impressive pier building with long history. Nicely renovated inide and with good service. Our starter was a smoked salmon, which was excellent.
We had the salmon and halibut for the main courses. The asparagus was a bit tough in places and should really have been better trimmed. other potatoes and mash were excellent.
The big disappointment was that despite the good appearance of the fish - see pics - both courses were quite a bit over-cooked. Mouthfuls of dry fish are really what you don't expect at this reputational and price levels. To be honest, when you are hungry and the rest of the plate is delicious, and the fish is 'edible' you can't be bothered for the hassle of sending it back, but I sense that given the throughput, the kitchen probably loses touch with standards a bit and errs on the safe side by leaving the fish on too long. Disappointing really, as the fish was expensive and top quality, and the expectation fell short..... Dry fish on BOTH plates, should not be leaving the kitchen, at this price bracket.
Peter Yong (PedroJoven)
Subpar food, prob because it's fast food style. Over breaded and clam chowder was watery. Servings were small and price is decent given it's in tourist area. On the bright side, staff were friendly and water is free. Clam chowder had lots of clam bits. They do give plenty of sauces.
GTB
Always good. Not sure why a 30 minute wait before seating for lunch. Service a little slow. Possibly staffing issues. Still like the restaurant, nice views.
Nelson Francisco
This is the first time I actually ate inside their restaurant. Usual I prefer to sit outside just so I could feed the seagulls... always fun! Maybe it's just me, but it seemed the fish and chips, along with the clam chowder tasted especially good while sitting inside the restaurant. It's probably because I didn't have to share my meal with the seagulls this time...
Patrick Rachford
The service stood out to me. They greeted us right away and took us to a great table. We got our waters on time and food came out really fast.
The food was amazing.
Peter Fernandez
An institution on the Seattle waterfront. There is the walk up and order counter and the restaurant inside. We went to the restaurant and sat outside. Outstanding views of Puget Sound. The service was prompt and friendly. The fried fish and clams were excellent. Seafood chowder was good too.
Matthew Beyer
Ivar’s, an iconic seafood restaurant right on Elliot bay. The food here is decent. I cannot say it is the best, but I can say that there are good items on the menu depending on what type of a person you are. The prices are on the high side, but thanks to the happy our special (3pm to close) you do get some great deals. I would recommend on the happy hour specials, the berry salad and soup sampler. The service was great and so was the sanitation, tables, etc. The wait at the time I went which was a little after 2pm, was very nice (FYI I was with a party of three.) This is a must go to restaurant in Seattle and a top restaurant on my list.
Nat
Once again they took great care of us! Came to celebrate our son’s 16th bday with family. We had a pretty big group - 17! I made reservations a week ahead, of course. Our server was so nice and accommodating (I believe her name was Ana). I brought my own cake and they took it to the back till we were ready. She brought it out and helped us with serving it too. The food was delicious as always. I love how they remodeled the whole restaurant and it’s now more open. We could see a ferry passing by and witness a beautiful sunset. The waiting area is big, the bathrooms are clean and the tables are set with appropriate silverware and cloth napkin (!). Love this place! Every time we came here we enjoyed it - the atmosphere, the service and the food, of course.
Tim Krimmel
Excellent food but big prices. Their clam bowl was awesome, and the clam chowder was great as well. They've got a nice atmosphere and great views of the water. If you can handle the steep prices, I highly recommend them.
Nick of Alaska
Fantastic place to bring the family or just have a date. We enjoyed the king crab, the sockeye salmon with lobster sauce and a few appetizers. The the quality and taste was perfect and the environment was just as good, as we overlooked the water front. Come dine at Ivar's, you won't be let down.
Quintin Kreth
Ivar's Acres of Clams is the best of the the big, tourist-focused restaurants along Alaskan Way. It's locally-owned and the food is actually good. They get very busy, but the waiters are fast and professional. If you want food along Alaskan Way or have a large group, Ivar's is a great choice.
Tairiny Simeonato
Fast service and great food. We got the chowder sampler and it was excellent! The halibut with the mushroom ragout and the goat cheese risotto was perfect as well. The fish tacos could be better and the menu dessert could have better options.
Jack Smith
The history of this place alone is enough to make this a instant favorite but the food and service really seals the deal! The Cioppino is so fresh and filled with flavor!
Edward C. Domaingue II
Great seafood. Fabulous views of the water, ferry terminal, Ferris wheel, mountains and countryside. Outstanding chowder. We'd return to Seattle just to visit Ivar's. Virtually everything was perfect. For those who need some criticism for authenticity, the bread was pedestrian. But I try to avoid bread, so I appreciate the assistance. Very good wine selection.
AP JP
It is a crime being in Seattle and not have tried the clam chowder. While there are many places that serves and is popular for this hearty, creamy goodness, few places do it better. And Ivar's Acres of Clams is one of those places who do it well and do it better. With a heavy recommendation from a colleague who is a local, we took a long walk from out hotel to Ivar's acres of clams. After a slightly longer wait, we were seated with views of the ferry terminal. We did not waste any time and ordered our drinks and dinner.
Being my first visit to Ivar's and having not tried chowders before, I decide to order the Chowder Sampler, which comes with their original Clam Chowder, a North Western Clam Chowder and a Salmon Chowder, with a portion of oyster biscuits. My colleagues followed suit, so as to help us choose the best chowder for our main. While I loved the Ivar's original Clam Chowder, I preferred the North Western Clam Chowder a tad bit more, because of the smoky flavors. My least favorite was the Salmon chowder, which was as delicious as the other two, but the clam chowder, any day better than the Salmon.
Having tried, 3 hearty samples of chowder with the oyster biscuits, I could not have finished a main all by myself. So me and my colleague decide to order & share a portion of the Clam and Chips. The food did arrive quickly and we savored the crispy and chewy deep fried clams with chips and sauce.
These guys have a lot more on the menu and I would definitely want to come back to enjoy their feel good, warm North Western Clam Chowder on a rainy day.
G George
Food was underwhelming, had the clam chowder and fish n chips. Neither was great. Seems very touristy but outdated interior?. I'm sure the view is a main selling point.
Richie Magpayo
Fast service, friendly counter staff, and yummy fish and chips! We always come here for the chips which is always top notch. Because of that, the place is a favorite of locals and tourists alike.
Don't walk by the waterfront without getting a fish and chips dish from the Fish Bar!
Rick Gustin
Man .. WE LOVE THIS PLACE. Go during Happy Hour .. get a seat .. and .. enjoy it all !!!! Everything's GOOOOOD. The wait staff is especially GOOD.
I ate the muscles .. pops had the clams .. Mom and my lovely Wife had the fish and chips .. the first time .. 10 days later .. we were back in Seattle .. seated at the same seat .. same great waitress .. and .. enjoying it again!
The curry sauce is great on the muscles .. the clams are always good . but .. spring for the 2 pounds ... and the calmari .. it's just too much for one person to eat. Chowder is one of the best ... get the sampler .. if you want to taste other versions of it. You won't be disappointed.
I'll see you there in a few months. I'm definitely going back.
Richard Mack Jr
Yeah buddy! Go get an acre you will love.
Paulo Carvalho
Everything is good! Nice view
Monica Owen (Godzchick)
Really good fish - and fast service. Great way to spend time while waiting to catch a ferry. Food was made fast and they even had heaters to keep you warm while you sat outside and watched the birds on the water.
Mike Radcliffe
Great seafood meal and views!
Ena M
Long line that moved suprisingly fast. Food was really good.
Dan
Initially I wanted to rate 4 star, but the waitor redeemed himself.
We were seated 15 minutes without serving water, the waitor did mention that he would served us in a minute after we sat down, but it took over 15 minutes to give us a cup of water.
2nd issue was the steak. My boyfriend request medium rare for his steak, but instead, his steak was pretty much medium, too dry for his liking.
We mentioned that to the waitor and he was very apologetic and offered to give us free dessert. We were very surprised.
I love the seafood dish that I hot, it was soooo delicious, a little spicy, but not too much. It was perfect.
We would definitely return when we r back in town.
Leica G
There was a bit of a line when we went in the evening, although we saw many empty tables. Generally, the food is ok - nothing to shout about. Common seafood fare served throughout Seattle. Only attraction for this place is that it’s been there for ages.
James Hawks
We were visiting Seattle and stopped in for lunch. The service was excellent. I ordered a grilled king salmon and it was amazing, the red sauce served with it was delicious. We also ordered a halibut with a peach sauce and it was really good. Overall a great spot for seafood. Also very family friendly with lots of seating and a nice patio
Matthew Gravelyn
A short 15 minute wait and we were sitting on the patio. The server was delightful, and we had drinks and appetizers quickly. Food was not far behind. The meals were amazing, perfectly cooked and seasoned well. The views were a great compliment to the meal. Couldn’t have asked for a better lunch!
Just Me
This food is always the best. It's not expensive. You eat right off water. Don't mind the birds.
Sullivan Harris
The best part of this place was definitely the atmosphere. The place is just MASSIVE, an absolute cavern of wood and pipes. The view out the windows (and on the pier, if you can get a seat there!) Is absolutely stunning, especially around dinner time.
The food was very good, and their happy hour deals are pretty decent, considering the normal prices.
Mischa Schlichting
Fantastic food and super friendly service. Jason was very helpful suggesting items and answering questions. Everyone was happy with their food. Would love to come back the next time I am in the area.
Nick Webster
Lovely Afternoon at Ivar’s.
We were promptly seated by a window on a cool Wednesday afternoon. The view of the Bay and the ships were amazing. Service was friendly, knowledgeable, and excellent. We both chose cod fish and chips. The server brought wonderful sourdough bread and butter to start. The fish and chips were prepared perfectly. We really enjoyed lunch and know we will be back.
Scott CL
Located right on the water, this restaurant has great views. The menu was a reasonable with fresh in season fish. Try the chowder sampler to have a bit of variety.
The prices are a little high as would be expected for a tourist area.
Megan Rucker
We got 2 orders of fish n chips and 2 sodas, price was roughly $30. Staff was nice and efficient. We got there around 1130am on a Thursday and the line was manageable. After we ate, the line was definitely doubled. Beautiful little outside eating area over the water. The fish was SO fresh and good. We're used to very frozen fish in Ohio so this definitely gets 5 stars from us!
Sarah Glinos
Great friendly service and delicious food. Drinks were also very good. My husband and I enjoyed our meal and drinks here.
Mike Moya
The food was great. We ordered the fried scallops and the four piece Cajun Cod. Prices aren't bad at all. Free refills on Cokes. They have a covered patio and an outside patio. We sat next to the water on the outside patio. Lots of seagulls waiting for food, but they don't bother you. Will definitely be coming back.
Henry Spurgeon
Want to eat somewhere historic, well-known and respected for its food on the waterfront? Look no further. This was a great chance to sample the seafood on offer in Seattle including the famous clam chowder (get it as a starter, leave room for other stuff!). Service was friendly and fast, it's incredible what some of those guys and girls carry on huge trays around the restaurant!
Stanley L
The cod fish&chips is awesome. Crispy and fresh.
The salmon fish&chips is also special.
Not so oily but not so special.
The shrimp cocktail is OK, but would not recommend it a lot.
The line is usually not too long, a recommended fish&chips restaurant.
Kayla A
So good, I was told by a former local that this was the place to try and it was amazing
Nick Borns
I'm on the road a lot and haven't been able to get up to Seattle for years. However, this landmark is standing and has only improved over the decades. Great views and great meals are here!
Emma S.
I go here every time I visit Seattle! The atmosphere is amazing and is complimented with the delicious food! I ordered the small prawns and chips and it was the perfect size. Make sure to take advantage of the outdoor seating and buy some extra fries to feed the seagulls! This seafood joint is a must go for any travelers. The staff is very quick and professional.
Richard Eason (MystaRE)
Great place to grab a bite to eat. Happy Hour daily 3-6pm and a pretty good HH menu. I ordered the Fish and Chips and a Long Island Iced Tea and I tried the Pineapple Old Fashion. Not bad, a little stronger than expected but still good. It took a while to get the check but still a really good spot to stop in and grab a bite.
Ann Schroeder
An iconic venue! Found on street parking, free! Went into the restaurant. Had a great view of the Ferries coming and going. The staff efficient, smiling. The food delicious
Mr Robberts (robb86)
Wonderful dining experience. The cocktails were superb. The recommended bacon wrapped halibut was delicious. Beautiful harbor views from most of the dining tables. Service was fast, all the staff were professional and pleasant. Worth a visit if you are looking for something a bit nicer but not overly dressy.
Josephine Schaaf (Florida-Hawaii)
The Sautéed Clams were off the chain DELICIOUS! Lavender Fields Forever cocktail was so refreshing and yummy!
Jordan Cheek
Must try the Crab Dip Appetizer and the White Clam Chowder. Brent was a wonderful waiter. Loved the view on the water!
Sean Howell
Ivar's was recommended by several people, more specifically to use their generous happy hour for the budget minded around Pike Place Market. You can use their open seated bar area adjacent to the bar if you have kiddos under 21. Probably wouldn't be the favorite food of a child, but 15 and above it is amazing. I fed me, my girlfriend, my 15 year old daughter, and my 15 year old niece for about $60 using their HH menu (no alcohol included). If you get their between 4 and five it will be easy seating, and the second night we got a table next to the water.
Definitely try the mussels, then dip your bread in the sauce afterward; it's a tastey filler. My daughter and niece are hooked on mussels now. Their calamari is breaded on site and the best I've ever had. We started with their chowder sampler for everyone, then my daughter ended up getting the NW seafood chowder bowl. My girlfriend and I got the steak salad, which is cooked to taste, and was also amazing. The fish and chips are a local favorite, but it's pretty difficult to mess up fried cod and french fries. However, the coleslaw was second to none.We liked it so much that we ate there twice for dinner. I had the salmon salad the next night and is was the best fresh salmon I've ever had.
You can easily spend $200 on a family meal off their regular menu, especially with a few drinks for the adults, but I'd rather spend the extra money at Wings over Washington or the ferris wheel. Everyone walked away full and had great fresh seafood. Will definitely go again
Lisa Waltke
Clam chowder was good. Had the salmon dish. Salmon was a little dry. Puree under the green beans and salmon was a little much. Hubby had cod fish and chips. Can't go wrong with fried fish. Ambiance was nice. We dined right on the water. Service was slow, but seems to be the case everywhere these days. Overall decent.
Loves Dogs
Alaskan cod fish & chips with coconut shrimp appetizer. The best fries (chips) I have eaten at a seafood establishment. Lovely restaurant with friendly employees. Awesome happy hour food specials even on Sunday.
Ronny Spoon
Went in at happy hour and it was great!
Shaun Laqeretabua
First time in Seattle and was told to go here. Was not disappointed. Great price and had fun feeding the seagulls.
Garret Stembridge
I am from out of town and wanted some good clam chowder when I came to Seattle. This place has great reviews on Google so I went. At first, I was worried it was going to be very touristy which in my opinion oftentimes means the food is lackluster. However, I was dead wrong.
Our server Bailey was a freaking stud. So nice and on top of everything. He upgraded my chowder to a bowl instead of a cup for free. Gave great recommendations on food. And gave me some bread to take home with my chowder.
The clam chowder was sooo good. I loved it. The crab cakes were delicious. Instead of the fish and chips, Bailey recommended the halibut and chips because halibut is in season and the breading on the fish was better. It did not disappoint. I don’t know if I’ve ever been more satisfied with a fish and chips type plate than I was tonight. Everything was excellent.
Oh yeah, if you get the chance, sit outside. It overlooks the pier. So nice.
Busra Kamiloglu
Best clam chowder. Seafoods are good, fresh and tasty. The restaurant is located near bay, so the view is beatiful.
Jessica Major
This place is absolutely lovely. Their clams are the best. My husband and I were seated by the window and had a beautiful view. I ate the salmon and it was cooked to perfection. Delicious meal.
Josefina Saldaña
Great! Affordable seafood eats by the sea. Buy at the outdoor kiosk for a filling meal. We had the white clam chowder, cod, Alaskan salmon, calamari, salmon chowder and the shrimp cocktail. Everything was delicious and fresh. There is an outdoor seating area or an enclosed seating area with tables to eat your fresh catch. A variety of sauces are available for your enjoyment and free water is provided. 5 stars all around! 🌟
samadipa saha
Really loved the food and ambience. The food is expensive but it is really flavorful. My partner had the vegetarian lentils and vegetables and I had the grilled salmon. Both were top notch. The service was great too.
Becky Bradshaw
I went in early on a snowy day and sat in the bar area.
Clam chowder and a glass of wine, so very good!
Chris Oliva
Quite the reputation behind this eatery which raises the bar of expectation. The location, aesthetics and views give it a classic wood-grain feel. Menu options are limited at first glance but the descriptions keep you curious. The portions are generous and the presentation is exemplary. I had the Alaskan halibut which had a great balance of seasoning, texture and flavor. It's too bad I don't live locally because this would be my new favorite seafood restaurant.
Lisa Parks
Delicious food and view. No wait time, good staff . The clam chowder was good also.
Michael Piechowski
Great lunch and great service.
PD Supernaw
Celebrated my brother's birthday. The cocktails were awesome, the food was amazing and the birthday dessert made it all so much perfect.
darren cornea
The must goto spot every time I go to Seattle. The chowder here is the best anywhere. The drinks are great service is outstanding and friendly. The view is the best!!
Deyna Dane
Food was amazing! We went during happy hour and got so much food with one drink each for $100, not bad at all! The customer service and ambiance was amazing as well 😁 …
Brett Gordon
We got the duo Salmon plate.
It was overcooked and the portion was tiny.
$65 for the plate.
The clams were good.
I'm from the Maine/ Massachusetts area.
I'm very picky on class.
The clams are smaller but much tastier than the little necks in the Northeast.
The view on the outside deck is great.
KCJ 2023
Excellent Bay view points. I had their great Clamchowder first and ordered the Maple Halibut, but it was a bit dry. Should have asked for the dreaded "tartar" sauce to improve the halbut taste, a fish I admit I'm unfamiliar with for knowing a good flavor of, but that would have messed wt the maple flavor glaze. Salmon, Trout, & Northern Pike I'm a fan of. Service was good. I was partly ill, not knowing, from something else, but I didn't want to make a fuss. about taste. (Month later, I was very ill, but NOT FROM this meal. YES I saw a doctor.) Had large portion of fish, so much that I had to take home the rest with sides. Dessert was excellent. Cheese cake & Strawberries. The Sunset views were awesome, would have made a great romantic dinner for two, almost anytime the sun is out at sunset. There was a new interrior, since I hadn't been there in over 20yrs since my family moved, but place looked outstanding! Staff was very attentive. Front of house smelled of wet fish carpet floors near host podium. "Live" in a place that long, you get use to it so I guess they don't always smell it and bathrooms chemicals. FIX THAT. SCREWS WITH MY FIRST IMPRESSION....FABREZE A MUST FOR THE MUSK! Will come back before I leave the area perminately after almost 30yrs here. Back to family and retirement as a amateur family Genealogist. ENJOY.
Abhishek Chavan
The food was great except Halibutt was a bit salty... I didn't quite like the seating area... It was a bit dirty... The Calamari was fantastic and the prawns were great as well... The portions were perfect size... Very reasonable rates
Diana I
Superb, delicious and great vibe and views.
Excellent service
Esmeralda Florez
The food was amazing and the customer service was great. My family and I went around 7pm and we waited for about 15 mins to be seated.
Syrah M
Excellent food & service. I loved the arugula salad and coconut curry mussels. Kids food came quickly. The drink selection is great. My cousin got the chowder sampler which looked like a lot of fun to eat. Perfect place after an Argosy cruise boat ride.
Ben Park
Nice experience and the price is right. They have seating and the service is quick. The fish was just ok, but it was still good for the area
es L
Definitely need to try out authentic Seattle fish & chips when one's in Seattle. Beware of the seagulls if eating outdoor!
Michelle Affek
Had to have my hubby try some of my memories from childhood. The calm chowder and fish and chips are out of this world. And when my parents saw we went they were so jealous especially when they saw our view!
Javed Miandad
Historic seafood place near pier 55. Loved their smoked chowder and cod fish and chips. You have to prepared before you place the order. There is usually big line and they ask for order very fast. There is a beautiful spot beside the restaurant where you can sit and feed birds.
Caroline kaiser
Staff and location are great. But we thought the fish n chips (cod or halibut) were a bit tasteless and overcooked. Fries didn't taste great either, just like regular frozen fries. A bit pricey too, we definitely had better fish at other random cheaper places.
Dirk
Very good dinner. Be aware however, the portions are huge. 3 of us ordered the calamari appetizer and a salad or cup of their famous chowder. The plates of calamari were huge and delicious, some of the best I've had. Our friend ordered the portobello dinner which was also fantastic. Our server, Rachel, was very attentive and personable. She felt our dinner was too delayed so she comped dessert without us even saying anything. We sat near the window so we got a great view of the sound and the ferrys coming and going. Will definitely return once back in Sea-town.
Letha Irving
Absolutely fabulous food! The clam chowder is hands down the best I’ve ever had! This is a MUST experience restaurant in Seattle!
Thomas Kim
Great quality food, great service, great dining area inside.
Johnathan Williams
An iconic Seattle seafood institution right on the water. The establishment offers a stripped and informal quick service area and a more traditional restaurant. Expect great service. The seafood dip, Ivar's signature fish and chips, and clam chowder all proved to be quite tasty to me, but everybody was very happy with the salads, appetizers, beers, cocktails, beef, and seafood.
jeongju park
I ordered Salmon, Cod and red clam chowder. All of it was amazing, so fresh! You must visit here! Also during this COVID19 situation they arranged the tables so well, i felt comfortable eat outside of deck. I’ll absolutely visit again before i leave Seattle!
Aaron Feld
The chowder was stellar, oyster too. The fish & chips were good. Overall the food was delicious, ambiance including the weather was spectacular, & the service started out well but ended up being sub par.
We were in town for a wedding and wanted the best of the best. I'd go back if I was in town, it was still worth it
Brian M. Demkowicz
I'm a local who went with visiting family from out of town (as you do). Delicious and fresh, delivered to table quickly. View was good, restaurant is spacious. That said, go from 3p-6p and sit in their spacious bar (also with a view) and eat/drink the Happy Hour specials. You can sample more things for way less money. And if you still want an overpriced entree, you can order that too. Ivar's is a must for anyone visiting Seattle for the first time, but stick to the bar for the best experience.
Jenna McKinney
The reason Ivar's has been here as long as it has, is because it's delicious. The shrimp and pollack baskets were great. They were both well cooked, the fries crispy and hot.
I love their crab/shrimp cocktails. There is no other place I order it. Dig down, make sure you have celery and the sauce and the meat in your bite. Be generous with your lemon. Trust me!
I am particularly partial to their coke. It's just the right mix.
We sat outside with the seagulls. They look dauting, but honestly, they just like the fries too. 🙂
I highly recommend this Seattle staple to anyone who wants to enjoy the treasures of the Pacific ocean in an affordable and beloved place.
Amity Preston
Can be very busy, but if you ask to be seated at the bar, you can be seated faster. Reservations are best for peak hours. Great views and good food. Always recommend the clam chowder and the classic fish and chips. They're a great deal at happy hour in the bar.
U Das
Located on the Sea front, at the heart of the happening spot, Ivar's can get you a seat flush next to the sea. Their seafood is delectable. And staff is happy to help you with choices, and friendly to start a conversation.

Everything was very nice. Service was too notch. Food was excellent. Really enjoyed the happy hour menu. Almost had a feel from days before when things were less hurried and slightly less crazy.
Shivani Kshirsagar
This place has some cool seafood options like the chowder sampler and the seasonal salmon fish. The food is bit expensive than we thought from the Google maps reviews. It is definitely $$$ and above for the quantity of food served. Having said that, the food quality, the presentation and the ambience deserve 5 stars! Loved the dishes we ordered. Would recommend it if you are looking to shell out some extra $ by the pier.
Elise Frawley
Great fish and chowder! I ordered the Alaskan pollock special which came with 3 pieces, a cup of chowder, fries and a drink for$15. Fantastic deal and none of it was fishy just pure delicious!!! Now I know why they have been in business for so long!
Shahid Kamran
Must try Cajun Cod Fish n Chips when visiting Seattle water front.
Michael Waespy
Went with my family and had the salmon special. The host and waitress had a lot of hype about it and they were certainly right. It just melted in your mouth and the potatoes and asparagus were perfectly cooked and seasoned. There was a sticker price shock when the bill came because the price wasn't listed but it's basically an oh well kind of thing at that point.
Elouise Love
We went in for an early dinner. Service was quick and the food was amazing. We especially loved the seafood risotto.
Rebeka Tóth
Good spot for some seafood on the Waterfront, tasty chowder, quick and friendly service.
Leesa Finley
Absolutely delicious and perfect spot overlooking the water.
Glasco Martin
This was our first meal after landing in Seattle for a short stay. It wouldn't have been my first choice, but someone in our group really wanted it. It was midafternoon, so it wasn't hard to get a table for 7 for lunch. My wife and I split a fish & chips meal and I had also try the clam chowder. It was pretty filling. We ended up not eating dinner until about 9pm. I thought the meal was great but she thought it was just okay.
Cosme Garcia
The best Salmon I've had in a long time. Wait staff were friendly and the service was prompt. Go now before the crowds come back!

This restaurant has a very beautiful view. They have good coloring activities for the kids, it keeps them busy 🙂 the food is fresh and delicious. The staff are very kind and friendly. …
Brandon Cornellier
Best clam chowder I’ve ever had. Amazing food on the water in downtown Seattle. It’s a must go for anyone looking for an authentic seafood meal in Seattle.
Celeste C
Great food, service, and a great view! Prices weren’t outrageous, even though it was dockside on Elliot Bay. Typical seafood prices, but AMAZING, quality seafood. 10/10 would recommend to anyone!
Edward Brooks
Absolutely fantastic food and service. Mathew and Chris were awesome bartenders and the food was out of this world. Can't recommend highly enough and will definitely be coming back!
David Thomas
Ivars on the waterfront is a fun place to dine out with friends and family. It has all the fast food basics...fish, shrimp, fries, prawns, clams, calamari and of course their famous clam chowder.
Make time to dine onsite so you can watch the ferries come and go as well as feed the seagulls. Be careful, they're big and feisty.
There's metered parking right out front as well as lots across the street under the viaduct.
Lots to do on the waterfront and this is one of them.
Bonus! Free refills on the most expensive, heavily Seattle over-taxed soda in the world!
That brings Ivars up to 4.25 out of 5 stars!
Zachary Campbell
This place was ok. Didn’t know there wasn’t happy hour on the patio until we sat down. Food and drinks were pretty good. Service was just ok. My chowder was served without a spoon or crackers. I was halfway through my chowder before I got my crackers. Just a little inattentive for how busy they were (or weren’t). Wouldn’t “not” recommend it but wouldn’t recommend going out of your way.
Jonathan Hancock (Element)
Gorgeous restaurant right on the water, with a lot of history behind it. I'm not USUALLY a seafood guy, but I do enjoy a cod sandwich or fish n chips from time to time, and this is definitely the place to go for that. Everything here is fresh and high quality, plus the staff is really friendly and knowledgeable. I recommend going for lunch rather than dinner, they get extremely busy at dinnertime
Polina Benoit
Absolutely perfect location. Just a few blocks from the Pike place market and right on the water. They are reasonably priced and the food was really good. The clam chowder was delicious. Fish and chips really good. Unfortunately they put a bit too much sauce on the smoked salmon, which overwhelmed the fatty fish.
Chris Shimmin
Ivar's is a staple of Seattle. This was an obligatory visit.
Good fish and chips. The chowder was really good (and I ate it in the middle of summer)
Richard Gwynn
Okay food. Salmon was overcooked, tough to cut. I was in a rush so I didn't say anything. Prawns were good. Service was okay as well. Went long periods between seeing or server but he always provided what we needed when he did show up.
Mike Chicago
Ivar's Acres of Clams. Great location, super nice decor, friendly staff and darn good food! I should say, almost great.
We had a bit of a wait, so we sat at the beautiful bar and had a drink. I heard the Bloody Mary is delicious here, from the girl who would be my girlfriend. I had a Jameson on the rocks. Nice.
There is a view of the ferry dock and pier from everywhere in the restaurant, but Sat outside on a beautiful (and I heard typical), calm, breezy, cool day.
THE FOOD!!
I had crab cakes for an appetizer. One of the tastiest, freshest, brightest and flavorful cake I've ever had! Tremendous mix of fresh crab, dill, and something I can't place , but they're delicious. Not "hard and crusty ", but moist, and lightly breaded, if at all. It might just be grilled a bit on each side. My one issue with the serving is that they're placed in a yellow sauce, with tomato-fennel chutney on top. The chutney was awesome. The other sauce i wasnt crazy about. I would have preferred separate servings so I could add to taste.
I had fish tacos as an entree. Not enough fish to taste over the over stuff of the tortilla (yes, tortilla!! No succumbing to the dreaded pre-made hard shell here!) with lettuce and a mayo squirt. You do get a flavorful sauce that's smokey and seasoned well. It was "okay"..!!
Overall.... A beautiful place with awesome food.
Angela Pena
Amazing as always, Ivars is always great I know there are alot if other places but the menu is simple to the point and never have I got bad food. There was a line but got to the front of the line quickly
Ryan Benzie
Quintessential downtown Seattle fare.
For a reasonably priced, reasonably delicious dockside dining experience, I would definitely recommend Ivar's Acres. If you're in a hurry, the serving counter adjacent to the restaurant is also fantastic.
Despite being busy both times I've been here, the food has always come promptly with frequent check-ins by staff. This place is quickly becoming my go-to downtown food stop.
Aiden Leiter
Food and service was outstanding best fishn chips i've ever had.
vaibhavi padala
We had a wonderful waiter Mason who was hospitable and suggested amazing food for us: the crab dip and their “Ivan wine is wonderful” and their food in general is spectacular- highly recommend the food . Mr Mason was a gentleman serving us. Highly recommend his service !! Bob appetite .
Harry
Great fish and chips. We ordered cod fish which was very fresh! Definitely check it out! Prepare to wait in line during weekends.
Michael Ellingson
Great place to pick up some fish and chips and super fun if you sit in the back and feed the seagulls with your spare fries
Cynthia
Went for happy hour... seating now restricted to inside the tiny enclosed bar. No longer the tables just next to it as it was pre COVID... We left without ordering. If you didn't know that area used to be included as the bar area. As a local trying to return to pre COVID waterfront visits it was disappointing
Jim Boyle
Wow! Amazing fish and chips, the fresh Alaska cod was wonderful.
Nic LaiFang
Great food, fun times. Bar tenders were helpful with info on things to do while visiting. The peir is a beautiful place to spend an evening watching the sunset.
Eugene Louie
Clam chowder and smoked salmon chowder is my go to here!
Anastasia Dispatch
Best clam chowder soup I’ve ever tried and oysters were so fresh and delicious. Bartender was friendly and nice.
Great place, affordable prices, delicious food!
Lucas Duffey
Best chowder sampler I've had. The smoked salmon chowder was particularly tasty.
Smoked grilled King salmon was also really good.
Courtney Reisig
BEST FISH & CHIPS EVER!! This restaurant serves amazing food and the staff is very friendly and prompt. My husband had the clams and chips and I had the fish and chips and we both really enjoyed our food. As a bonus, we got to watch the sun set on the water as we ate. I would highly recommend.
Auston Ošlapas YouTube
very tasty chowders, good price and quality for area. tried the white chowder with breadbowl, coleslaw, and fries. fries were nice and light. this was a lot of food so i shared the bread and fries. i couldn't finish all the bread from the bowl but it was good quality bread
L B
Fish was good..the atmosphere brought it down a notch.
Recommend getting it to go next time.
KC
Stopped in for a light snack and got more than I imagined. First of all, this is the famous Ivar's Acres of Clams. Iconic but not over done. Decor was what you would expect and Staff was on point with service. The white clams were cooked perfectly. Both presentation and taste made this a must have dish. We were lucky to stop in while they had Copper River Salmon on the menu. Again, loved the colors and presentation but taste is what you order this for. Definitely will be back.
Mariska van de Tonnekreek
Great fish! We love the food, location and the service! Thanks guys, we had a lovely time sitting out there in the sun feeding the birds!
Mark Looney
This place is awesome. Love their clam chowder. Also like their fish and chips!!
Johnny Rodriguez
Ivar's is an apparent Seattle institution. We ate inside the more formal restaurant. Per Bizarre Foods, my choice would have been to order from the outside counter and sit outside on the waterfront; still part of Ivar's but less formal and affordable than indoors. Food was okay, but, really wanted the "fried" experience.
Tiffanie Root
Great experience for visitors. The pictures in the waiting area are neat to look at and there is plenty of seating for waiting. The food is delicious. You must get a cup of clam chowder!
Heidi Pankratz
Great food but small portions for the price. We loved the view outside and our server was so friendly.
Lynn T
We found this restaurant to be way overrated. I'll start with the good. It's a beautiful restaurant, warm, inviting and HUGE. There are a lot of tables here. Waitstaff is excellent, view is beautiful and just a lovely atmosphere overall. Now for the bad; we came on a Wednesday night, it was very slow, very few people, even the waiter seating us said it was a slow night. However, upon walking in we had to give our name and we were given an electronic pager....seriously? After 5 minutes waiting we could see there were plenty of open tables, so not sure what we were waiting for exactly. We had raspberry ice tea and an Arnold Palmer, both tasted like barely flavored water. They took the drinks off our check. Bread was good, and the chowder was delicious. Reviewing the menu there was some sticker shock, $60 for crab legs? I'm from New England, I've paid plenty for lobster, I get it, but this seemed overpriced to us. I had the fish and chips. I got 4 medium size pieces of fish and plenty of fries. Both were ok, my boyfriend had salmon with some veggies. Salmon was good, so were the veggies, portions were on the small side for $32.00. There are better places in Seattle for seafood. Ambiance is great, chowder is good, although portion wise, there's very little difference between the cup and the bowl, unless you do the bread bowl. Hope this review helps you out.
Alexei Tcherkassov
Nice place! Big but calme and spacious, with a comfy dimmed lights. Enjoy the clams and a nice view on arriving and departing ferries!
Yennie Jang
Coconut shrimp only 4 peices and expensive. Happy hours clam chowder is worth it.
Helen Connolly
We had a nice view of the water from our table. The food was delicious and our server was on point. We came at happy hour so they had some good specials going on.
Rabia Effendi
We were out for some errands in Seattle and somehow ended up at the pier. After a long walk and one too many games of Pac-Man, we started craving fish N chips. Ivar's was one of the top rated restaurants at the pier and so we decided to check it out. We ordered their lobster and the classic fish n chips. We were by no means disappointed. The ambience of the place resembled the inside of a ship so it felt like we were on water (which was somewhat the case)
Heard the clams and chowder are the best things on the list. Surely going there again to try these out.
Ester M
The best clam chowder ever, it was recommended by many locals. Even the appetizer was good, we sat on the patio and had a pet view of the water.
Chanel Chalifoux
Cannot say more good things about this place. Service was impeccable. Food was fantastic!! Everything was cooked to perfection. Absolutely loved it here. Will definitely be back next time we're in Seattle.
Charles Cooper
Food and service was reasonably good. But they didn’t offer straws or drink s as stirs and no soup spoons.
Olle Sorme
Great food, location and service! We enjoyed the calamari and sockeye salmon with pinot noir butter.
Stacy Lee Ferguson
Had a fabulous meal outside with the family. Great views of the ferries and sail boats. Service was outstanding and staff super friendly.
Woongkee Baek
Seasonal flavorful salmon is a must-try. It offers variety of salmon from different part of States. Good family restaurant, well-known to local people as well. It offers a beautiful view to sea shore.
Esteban Julio Ricardo Montoya de La Rosa Ramirez
First time in Seattle so I had to hit up a fish joint. This location has a quick to go place on the left and a sit-down restaurant on the right. I ate inside so your experience may be different if you get the to-go food.
I got the fried halibut and chips. It was a lot of food so if you get the halibut go with the 2 piece and not 3. Fish was fresh but had a bit too much breading. Fries were good and crispy.
As far as appetizers, the crab cream cheese dip is delicious and the oysters were very fresh.
Definitely come here if you’re a tourist but don’t expect to get your socks knocked off. Would come back.
Bizzi Bee (Bizzi Bee)
Great friendly staff. Good food. Make sure you do happy hour!!
Joyful
Fresh fish; fast, helpful service, great location with outdoor seating and covered patio. I got the kids fish and chips, just the right size. Fish was fresh and delicious, fries were good as well. Free refills on soda. Bathroom access inside the main restaurant next door. Street parking. Walkable location. Very close to the ferries.
Nathaniel Roundy
Wonderful and iconic place. But, not just a name: great food and simply outstanding service. The Caesar salad, calamari, and cod are wonderful. Perhaps the best part of it is how fresh everything is.
Jennifer Galloway
It was a lovely experience dining here on Christmas Eve. We sat at the bar railing which wasn't too crowded. The choice of Christmas movie was top notch with Home Alone 2. I appreciated that our bartender reminded us it was happy hour even after we had spouted our orders forgetting that fact. There was an employee raffle they did on the side, where the staff was excited about which made the atmosphere feel fun and made me feel better about dining out on a holiday that they were still making it an enjoyable night for their staff. The food came out quickly, and was very tasty. We loved the coconut prawns off the happy hour menu, and the crab and cheese dip was so delicious, the bread was the perfect texture. For drinks there was a specialty cocktail with apple, cinnamon, and ginger beer that was super yummy. For entrees we had the wild salmon which was perfection. I'd like to thank managers James and Ashley for doing such an awesome job!
Armando Shaffer
This was our first visit to the original downtown location as all our previous visits were to the Mukilteo location. Considering this location is almost 4 times the size of the Mukilteo location, the atmosphere is very roomy and open with ample spacing between tables. Since we were there somewhat early, the restaurant was relitavily quiet, which was nice.
One of the best features of the restaurant is the views, especially during sunset. So depending on the time of year when you go, to get the full effect, you want be there an hour before sunset. We were there at around 5pm, got a windowside table with breathtaking views (it helped that the weather was clear!) Recommend calling or reserving a table if you can.
Service was very good from arrival to departure. The food was great as we both had the fish and chips. We also had the oysters to start and it sure hit the spot.
If you found this review helpful please give it a thumbs up. Thanks
Kalle Westerling
Yummy but a little over-priced seafood place. Don't miss the Happy Hour menu. That's what we picked and chose from primarily; really great prices for a lot of food.
Cameron Luo
Loved it here, will come again!
Neil Das
Very nice restaurant front of house. We asked for a table with a little space if possible for COVID reasons, and she was nice enough to find one for us. Clam chowder is amazing as always. The fancy entrees are good and high quality, but really I come for clam chowder and fish and chips.
Dan Hoyt (Higgs-Boson)
Absolutely amazing place. The ambiance is fantastic, the food is exceptional, the staff is incredibly friendly. The daily specials are always worth taking a look, because they usually contain whatever is freshest. Though I have no complaints about anything I've ever had there! A bit pricey, so definitely not a daily go-to, but certainly a wonderful place to treat yourself!
Andy Zahn
By far my favorite place to eat in Seattle - casual, very friendly and delicious! 5 piece cod fish and chips is a good value meal for two. This is a truly authentic Seattle experience, not a tourist trap!
Cole Croley
Awesome place to eat, very well staffed.
Our waiter was very nice and quick.
I showed up later to dinner than the rest of the family group and yet despite putting my order in much later than everyone else they still brought out my food fast. They didn't have to do that, I didn't ask them to rush it, so that shows good communication and great awareness of the dinner situation.
Food was fantastic too so thx to the chefs.
I will eat here again.
Great views of the water too.
Very nice atmosphere inside with a fireplace as well.
Michael Hoelen II
Ivar's has the best clam chowder and fish and chips, hands down. This is the place to beat! Ivar's, you set the standard!
Noah C
Been to this restaurant multiple times and have only had great service and great food. I haven't had a dish there that I didn't love!
Paul Zenone
I LOVE this place have been coming here since 76 always delicious whatever you get but the CLAMS are GRUBBN and the Halibut is amazing 👏 Love Ivars
Thomas Mauriello
Sometimes in the middle of a tourist hub and with great views only feet from the water you might expect mediocre food to accompany the great views but Ivar's Acres of Clams had us paying more attention to the food than the views.
We ordered six dishes including one vegetarian dish and everything was delicious. Fish and chips was quite good, we had a blackened Salmon Cesar salad also quite good. A clam chowder - Really delicious, Salmon Burger was outstanding. Also ordered the Ciopino, good but could have had a touch more flavor in my opinion. Also, if you order blackened salmon and ask for it cooked medium rare, ours was a bit overcooked but not sure you can get something blackened on high heat and medium rare.
Our waiter was quite good and helpful with the menu. The interior is large space, darker reddish wood throughout like an old steakhouse, high ceilings and windows all around. You can see large boats docked steps away and out into the water.
Ya Sabes
They are all friendly. They take the time to answer questions and make suggestions. They're fast, but it's not fast food. Head to the waterfront and enjoy a walk to Ivar's. You won't be disappointed. You'll get your food faster and the experience will be the same as the hype on Pike...
Maybe a lot better!
AC Pollo
Great waterfront views right by the Washington State ferry terminal. We all had fish and chips so cannot comments on other menu items, but it was good! Service is a bit handicapped due to covid staffing shortages but that is common elsewhere. Overall a great relaxing dining experience in a classic Seattle eatery.
John Castillo
Was heading home, but decided to grab a bite enroute to my car.
I ordered the halibut and some fries, and enjoyed them both very much. The staff was friendly and spoke Spanish, which I appreciated.
I'll hit these guys up again next time I'm in Seattle.
Anthony Wong
I absolutely love Ivar's. The food is delicious and there are a lot of things on the menu to suit almost any tastes. The servers are attentive and friendly. This restaurant is quite large and has great views of the water. On a clear day evening you can lose yourself just staring outside the windows. Be sure to try the famous white chowder. Yum!
Mustang Sally
We stopped in for a glass of wine & shared appetizer, and soaked in the lovely view of the water from the patio. Calamari was seasoned well and cooked right - good texture, not rubbery like some places. Wait staff was short-handed, so had to wait 15 minutes at bar, despite lots of open tables. Service was friendly and attentive.
Chris A.K.T.
Ivar’s was so good. We didn’t want to eat at the fast food Ivar’s because there were pigeons in the room. Sorry, not eating with birds. So, we chose to eat inside and it was delicious. The service could’ve been better which is why I gave it 4-stars. I got the halibut $18 lunch course with clam chowder. So good!
t tiff
Casual atmosphere and seems popular for families with kids. Sampler of the three chowder was one of my favourites among the crab cake and seafood cocktail. The clams in wine sauce is also nice.
ANITRAA PRATER
Amazing food, great service! A must when in this beautiful city!
sherman edwards sr
Steak and fish, clams, has the salmon burger with fries.
Loïc Pelleau
We had a nice view on the sea. The dishes were good, a bit far but tasty! It seems like average price, nice place to visit in Seattle
Amanda Morris
Amazing seafood and attentive staff. Great views.
Cam Williams
Very delicious food with a great view. I ordered the salmon and crab cake combo. Amazing food. Great taste despite the fact they didn't use much seasoning
Steve Nakaki
Ivar’s fish bar is fresh, hot and delicious! I love the fish and chips. The fish is fresh and prepared after ordering, so it comes out hot and made to order. The chips are good, but I’m trying to cut down on the carbs, so the seagulls enjoyed quite a few of the fries. I would recommend Ivars for their fresh, hot fish & chips!
Meredith Schmidt
Eh. Not bad. We went to the fast serve area. The lady got our order wrong and we ended up with way too many fries.
Husband had clam chowder in the bread bowl. Sourdough bread is 😍😍😍. I had fried chicken, was a little greasy. We then left only to realize there was a full restaurant which would have been way more what we were looking for.
All in all, pretty average food but very crowded!
Kayla P
Great views and good atmosphere! The food was overall okay. I think I had high expectations due to the price and the many positive reviews but I think in our party of 5 everyone agreed that the food was good, but not really exceptional as it should have been given the price point. I’d probably pass in the future.
Jill Troutman
Excellent service.. nice view from the table.. calamari was great and the serving size was as well.. we shared a cod fish basket that they nicely put on 2 plates for us.. would definitely go back!
Marsha R
Great food and you can sit on the waterfront while eating
Eugenio Bacordo
Great location. Quick service for Saturday lunch. Expected more. The chowder and cod combo was ordinary in taste and presentation. Moving on to Pike’s Market for the raw ambience and multiple choices of unpretentious ocean fare.
Petr Kusy
The food was good, the staff friendly and sitting outside we were treated to a lovely sunset. What more. Ould you ask for.
Alicia Cover
It was expensive ($30 for a salmon ceasar) but I justified the cost was also paying for the view. The staff were great and welcoming of our luggage since we were on our way to the airport.
Ben H
Had a fantastic meal at Ivar's Acres of Clams while visiting Seattle. The bacon wrapped Halibut was absolutely incredible and well worth the price. Would recommend to anyone visiting.
Carter Gray
Great clam chowder! The cod fish and chips were good but a tiny bit rubbery. Also the random people feeding the pigeons and seagulls is a little on the annoying side.
Ally C
Great shrimp, fries and chowder. This classic restaurant is right on the pier. Don't forget to feed the seagulls, your fries; it IS encouraged!
DJ B
Had the friend halibut and it was very good. Also the scallops are amazing! Came back later in the trip for lunch and I suggest for something more casual grab food from the counter next door and sit on the pier. Be ready to feed some hungry seagulls!
N M
For a tourist attraction type of restaurant I thought it was decent, I’d give the food 3stars and the view 5 stars. I would go back when in Seattle again for drinks and apps only
Alex Park
I tried fried pollock and chicken strip with French fry. Soft and fresh.
I was sitting in booth-like spots but birds were staying inside. It may not give you good impression.
Dining restaurant is also available.
Leftover fries typically seemed to be used for seagulls next to it.
Popular place to go.
Zena Williams
I visited Seattle, Washington and I was informed to go to Ivers for the best fish and chips ever. When I received my order the fish and chips looked like chicken strips, they weren’t big, they weren’t crispy, they weren’t really flavorful and the french fries had no salt or flavor.
Christy Shaum
Many friends recommended Ivar’s and we were not disappointed! We tried some salmon fish n chips and thoroughly enjoyed it. Out back behind the fish bar there are always a fun group of seagulls hanging out and waiting for people to share their food. We recommend giving Ivar’s a try!
M Aboud
Awesome food and services, you definitely should try the fried Salmon it's awesome. A+
A AA
My favorite orders cod fish & chips, and jumbo prawns. So delicious!
Jimmy Lee
Everything was hot and fresh! Delicious! If you like thick and creamy New England clam chowder, this is the place.
Brian Cooper
A great view of the harbor and you even get an occasional sound of the ferry ⛴️ horn as it departs. The food was delicious, the fish and chips are good but I highly recommend the crab dip...the best.
Derek Brown
don’t spend the extra for halibut. it’s very so-so and the portion is sort of small. I mean.. the place is “famous” so drop by to amuse yourself but don’t expect anything especially good.
S G
Had better fish n chips. Would say it's an average dish.
C Frantzen
Of course the Clam Chowder is amazing, but this review is about much more. The location is fantastic with wonderful views and vaulted ceilings. The service was pompt and courteous. It was special to watch our waiter teach two little girls how to feed the seagulls outside. I enjoyed a blackened Ceaser Salmon Salad.
Javier Alonzo
Always a delightful experience. The Pier 54 Cioppino was amazing... Every ingredient tasted fresh, and the spice was a nice touch.
Michael & Katie Wemple
Great food and spectacular views!
Edwin Planas
Historic place on the pier that's need to be visited at list one time. Beautiful place with a great history. We'll decorated, huge place, and a big open kitchen concept, great bar with premium liqueurs,, good wine options and local craft beers on tap, also bottle local beer.
Good chowder, salmon is as fresh at it can be.. The fish and chips needed to try. Great service.
Tip Monday and Tuesday the have few bottles of wine at half price.
Paul Berg
I took my younger daughter to have have a Seattle seafood dinner. My waiter highly recommended the King Salmon and I'm glad he did. It was absolutely the sweetest salmon I've ever eaten. This was a perfect experience
Chad Davis
Happy hour mac and cheese and creme brulee was great. Clams, fish and chips and calamari was adequate. Tourist trap vibe, but great prices during happy hour.
Mark Anderson
Whenever I'm in Seattle and able to get to the Waterfront I like to go to Ivar's at least one evening. The clam chowder is so tasty and the service tonight was awesome. I ordered a hurricane, small cup of their clam chowder and whenever it is available I have to try the shrimp and grits; you can't go wrong with them.
Chize 206
Went there a couple weeks ago with a friend. Food was fantastic and service was excellent! It's a great place to feel the full PNW experience. I will definitely be stopping by more in the summer!
Jessica Andrews (jessicabybike)
The halibut fish and chips and the chowder was great. Dessert was really good. We arrived at Noon for opening and had no trouble getting seated for 5 people. Like most things we found in Seattle, prices were higher than what we're accustomed to but not comparatively out of line. Our server was attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere clean and comfortable.
Kenzie Drake
Amazing food and ambience. Even better wait staff. We have food allergies (gluten, dairy, garlic) and Ivar’s team was so accommodating and highly attentive. The King Salmon melted on the tongue, and the freshness of ingredients paired well with the sides. 12/10, thank you Ivar’s!
Paulina Fuentes Loza
Delicious fish & chips + coleslaw salad + shrimp cocktail!
I was so happy to eat at an all-time Seattle classic!
Jim Burgraff
Thanks for being open for takeout! The food was ok, the ambiance on the dock was spectacular.
Mike Barros
Awesome din din stopping here in our first trip to Seattle. The clam chowder trio is to die for. Super friendly staff and great food for being right in the thick of the tourist section of the wharf.
Brooklyn Simmons
I really liked this place! Even in the cold weather, they offer a little indoor heated patio to eat the food and you still get the great view of the water. There are some random pigeons hanging out which is no big deal. The fish was decent and so were the fries, pretty standard fish and chips. I got the cheapest version so maybe would have been better if I had splurged on a “fancier” fish. But you can’t beat the view and the cute seagulls that come up, the sign tells you to feed them! Overall really enjoyed myself here.
Mary Ann Coniff
The view from our seating was beautiful. I enjoy Seattle Ivar's it on the street yet in back view on the Pier and watching the Ferry docking right outside our window wonderful. Food was average and so was the service.
Justin Harvey
Not that far from Pikes Place Market. I guess I was expecting a lot being from a coastal city, where we get fresh seafood all the time. The fish was cooked well. We got both the Cajun and the regular. The Cajun was not at all Cajun, it seemed to just have more pepper in the batter. The batter on both was done well very thin and crispy. The fries weren’t the best. It was nice they had a sitting area but it was very crowded.
Anna Baatz
Took my from-out-of-town bf here for a classic fish and chips by the pier experience. Everything was consistently as good as in my childhood, from the crispy fries, chunky tartar sauce to the juicy fries cod. (We tried the cajun seasoning which was excellent!) The white Chowder was as creamy as flavorful as always too, great with the saltine crackers sprinkled on top. Wonderful to sit outside with the water in view on a sunny day and have a nice lunch :)
Narine Harut
Huge restaurant with nice, informative design, beautiful views, outdoor sitting, good customer service, delicious food and good vine selection, little bit expensive.
Josh Attoun
If you're looking for the best bowl of clam chowder you've ever had in your life, look elsewhere. That said, we had great service, it's a nice looking restaurant, and the calamari we ordered was wonderful.
T. Bolt
Excellent food and service, with great views of the sound. Prices are pretty reasonable for what you get.
Agustin Mex
The place is nice, the only reason im not giving it 5 stars is because the clam chowder is not the best. Not bad but not the best. Prices are a little on the high end for the taste. Best thing was the curry mussels and crab and cheese dip. Highly recommend those.

This place was DELICIOUS. The chowder is SO GOOD! We went to another seafood “diner” down the way and the chowder didn’t even compare to the amazing chowder here. 10/10 on the chowder.

We had a big event here, which was a cracking location. Drinks and nibbles were tasty. The views were brilliant, outdoor seating is heated. It's just a shame they close so early!
Max Zhilkin
Food was pretty good. The ambiance of the place is fantastic, especially the views. The service was a little slow.
Joyce
The food was great (but pricey). The service was top notch! Beware, parking is a problem in the immediate area (unless you're taking the Water Taxi).
Christina Collins
Enjoyed a lovely evening at Ivar's with colleagues while in town for a conference. We sat in the lounge and appreciated that we had the option of the regular menu or the happy hour menu from 3:30 PM to close. Loved the view of the water and the service was excellent. The clam chowder was one of the best I've ever tasted and all of the seafood was well prepared.

I had seen Ivan’s mentioned in an episode of Vice and we had to come try it. It certainly passed my expectations. To be a fast food restaurant, the food was so fresh and delicious. They also had a garlic vinegar that tasted amazing with the tarter sauce.
Sean Gardner
Just superb, Service is fast friendly and meets expectations. Food quality is very good and fresh.
Mark The Bassman
Never disappointed with Ivar's Fish and Chips. Always fresh and tasty. Also the best Tartar sauce around. Lot's of Seagulls waiting for your scraps or french fries.
Courtney Barnette
Some of the best clams we have had. Of course, seafood in Seattle is always fresh, but we enjoyed our meals and window side table. Would recommend and definitely go back.
Larry Raab
Google said they opened at 9am but it is noon. I went and got a bowl of chowder next door and it is the best chowder I have ever had. Props for living up to the expectations.

Spectacular restaurant. Everything was great. Had the Cioppino and the sauce was thicker and not a soup. Was totally delicious! Highly recommended.

Someone recommended this place to us as we were walking down the road looking for a good fish and chips spot. There is the outdoor Ivar's and beside it is the indoor dining lounge with a completely different menu. The fish bar was quite busy. Staff is friendly. Portion sizes are pretty large and prices are reasonable. The cajun fish was very tasty. Also tried the halibut fish as well along with the calamari. Everything was fresh and hot. Was very much enjoyed. The only thing I did not like were the amount of pigeons coming into the seating area, which I understand is a bit unavoidable given the location and being right by the water. Other than that, definitely a spot to check out.

Glad we were not in a hurry this place was slow just waiting for the server to give us menus took 20 minutes and all we wanted was coffee and dessert it didn’t seem busy but they seated between 2 noisy tables

Visited Seattle a couple months ago and had to stop at Ivar's. I was not disappointed. Best cod and clam chowder I've ever had, not even close. Everything was great.

The takeout counter and seating is convenient. Fish is very good. Clam chowder lacking.

By far some of the best fish and chips I have ever had if not the best! I tried out the halibut and also the regular cod fish and chips they are both amazing but for the money hands down go all out with the 5pcs cod!!!!! The fish is so fresh and not fishy tasty. The fish is so perfectly cooked it just flakes off in pieces.
D Strand
Very generous portions..everything was perfect. The place, the food, the atmosphere..always great here

Ceasar salad was partially wilted and blackened salmon was dry. Suggest medium rare.
Noisy inside.

It is a good place if you want to enjoy your meal with seagulls, you just need to sit outside.
mommy and me
Um no explanation needed. Ivars has been perfect since we were children..Tell a friend. You must feed the seagulls your French fries. So much fun enjoying the Treasures of emerald city
Becca Algozzino
The waiter was outstanding! We were a group of 14 and he was very accommodating. The food is so good! The sour cream mashed potatoes melt in your mouth and the halibut was the best! They do have chicken strips, not on the menu, but our waiter suggested it for the young one in our group.
Dwight Amstutz
I think this the tourist thing to do for a quick dining. We all had fish/chips either halibut or cod. It was good for a quick meal. Service was fine and moved pretty efficient during the lunch time. Quick access to a lot of the sight seeing options so it was an easy choice with kids. The kids enjoyed feeding the seagulls left over fries. I think that was a huge highlight for both the kids and birds.
JL Olmstead
Great seafood. The halibut was delicious and the prawns were fresh and fried perfectly.
Tons of birds in the eating area, but they mostly kept their distance.
Paul Paolozzi
Wow, what an amazing improvement from the last time I was there many years ago. Exceptional service, very good chowder, with plenty of reasons to return. It's a place with great Seattle history and fun pictures. I really enjoyed the conversation with our server because he was so friendly. I'll return and sit on the back deck.
Eric Erickson
This restaurant is close to the space Needle. Some of the best seafood and clam chowder I've ever had.
Josephine Schaaf
The bartender made this place. Fantastic drinks and suggestions. The sautéed clams were heavenly!
Christopher Wilkes
Great place to get some quick seafood. They have an enclosed space near the Pier 54 so can watch the birds feed and see the harbour.
The food was hot and fresh.

No wait for a table. Waiter, Rob, was very friendly and knowledgeable. Super personality. Very nice location with beautiful views of the sound. My husband's steak was cooked perfectly. The food was very tasty. Bathrooms were clean and maintained. Nice location. They have military discount. Charming atmosphere in the restaurant. Easy access from downtown Seattle and the ferries.

Cramchawder is so nice

Incredible food and was lovely eating on the outside deck! Chowders are fantastic, cioppino was amazing!

I've been dining here for years. Always loved Ivars for dinner and also happy hour.
Prices have skyrocketed this year, but that's everywhere. The service was pretty good as well.
Took the 2 stars off due to the food, at least in comparison to the price. The 2x kids dinners were fine but the runny chowder hardly stands up to the name. I can go outside to the Ivars fish bar and have better chowder at a lower cost. The water that was served had a distinct taste, which I shrugged off and wasn't a big deal. But then I it had that same taste in the risotto. I immediately recognized it and couldn't get past it.
All in all, we thought of the price paid was for the dining experience and great service and not the actual food.
Hannah Kyser
Had dinner here and the food and service was absolutely amazing. Where we sat we could see the water too. Will definitely be back!!!
Justin van Schaick
Fish and chips and other seafood for reasonable prices. Very chaotic ordering process there though; no one knew where to stand for ordering and waiting for food; people all over the place and frustration with the staff as well. They should work this out.
Michael Hacala
Ivar’s is known for good seafood. Great location and views!
Nicole Chilcott
Grew up on these fish & chips as this has always been my families first stop when visiting Seattle! The Ivar’s quality is truly unmatched. We swear by the clam chowder though, a bowl of pure joy I would gladly eat as my last meal! Dont forget to share your uneaten fries with the seagulls as well :)
Thảo Nguyễn
I got the Cod Fish&Chip and some fries. The food was good. They have tables with waterfront view where you'll find thousands of seagulls queuing on the fence and screaming for food. It was fun though. Highly recommended for sea gull lovers.
Melanie Belanger
Food seems spendy but not terrible for Seattle waterfront. Service was very friendly, let us finish after closing hour.
Maxine Williams
We sat by the window and saw many interesting things. Seating was prompt but it took awhile to place or order. It was not very busy. Possibly low staffing. We observed the Fire Department boats, seas gulls which gave my grand daughter a distraction from the wait time. The food was good.
Sharon Robinson
Beautiful waterfront views right next to the ferry boats. Ordered the calendar and Alaskan Coho Salmon - all look good
John Vaughn
Great bowl of clam chowder soup or you may want to choose the bread bowl of clam chowder both are delicious and a great choice.
Tamila Johnson
Loved the place and had to come back next day just for a clam chowder.
Emerson “EmJ” Johnston
Great Happy Hour at the Bar and historic Seattle charm. The chowder always hits the spot on a rainy day!
Beauty & Brains
Crab cakes were divine the other special was way too spicy. Service impeccable
Ms. Pina
This is a great location if your near the waterfront or walking off the ferry boat. The food is hot and fresh and if you have time to linger, the seagulls will be happy to finish your extra fries!
Amber
Super tasty fish and chips on the waterfront. Ordering was easy and the food superb. The fish was lightly breaded and very tasty.
Alex DeBlauw
Quick service, friendly bartenders, and the salmon clam chowder is absolutely amazing. Ivar's will be a must visit location on my next trip to Seattle. You can pick food up from the seafood bar outside or sit down inside.
Vaibhavi Gaekwad
Best cod fish I have had
Paul Juser
I first discovered Ivar's in 2001 on my first visit to Seattle. This is some of the best fried fish on the planet! I eat Ivar's in my dreams!
