Reviews of How To Cook A Wolf
How to Cook a Wolf in Queen Ann Seattle is an absolute gem featuring Italian small plates and a robust cocktail & wine menu. The cuisine is rustic, bursting with flavor and texture. Each item was unique but was part of a larger culinary journey.
Chef Robin Posey delivers an absolute masterclass. From bone marrow to perfectly cooked Halibut, each dish was tantalizing yet simple.
The service was top notch. The server was attentive and helped ensure we had a wonderful experience. If you are in the area definitely give How to Cook a Wolf a visit.
Great restaurant with great food and servers. We really enjoyed bone marrow, risotto and the steak. Their cocktails are also well crafted. Only one downside I could think that even though there were seats available inside, we were seated outside. They have heaters tho. But I’d prefer to be seated inside while they were available. I’d recommend this place.
Good dining experience, bartenders are great and we had some good food, the shrimp risotto and scallop pasta, bone marrow are great. The ahi crudo, however is a little too smelly, doesn't taste fresh to me. The bone marrow was pretty good, it pairs unexpectedly well with shallots jam. Two main dishes were pretty good as well. Came during the restaurant week, tried to book a reservation but didn't find available. Fortunately walk-in with bar seats available.
That is the question…how? Carefully I suppose. Through evaluation of key ingredients and a fundamental understanding on how to cook it. It doesn’t need to be some exotic ingredients, just cook it well, give it love and pair it with genuine good service. A good cocktail haven’t hurt anyone either.
P.s. get the bone marrow
Risotto and the game hen were my favorites! Lots of flavor. The sourdough bread was good too even though I’m not a huge fan of sourdough bread. Service was good and they have a nice outdoor seating area which I prefer than inside.
Great place for simple Italian fare that is done very well. Service was on the slow side (almost felt like our server forgot about us), but the food was very good. Also we very much enjoyed the outdoor seating area that has a lot more space than a table inside.
Celebrated our anniversary at How To Cook A Wolf and it did not disappoint! We were greeted with a glass of bubbly and waited at the bar inside until our table was ready. The hostess was so sweet and personable. She took us outside to our private outdoor area with plenty of heating. We had cocktails, wine, sourdough bread, broccoli, beef carpaccio, beet salad, gnocchi, ravioli and ended with hazelnut gelato and an espresso martini. Everything was incredible - especially the carpaccio. They made us feel so special and definitely am going back! This spot is very intimate and cozy.
Tried this place for the first time and it was amazing! We had the beef tartare, burrata, scallops, paccheri, peach tart, and tiramisu. The hostess and waiter were very welcoming.
It is a small restaurant in Queen Anne so reservation is required. You get to choose if you'd like to sit indoors or outdoors. Outdoor seatings have the big and tall heated lamp at every table in addition to a small heater on the table.
You have to wait for about at least 20 minutes for each meal so make sure you bring company to chat with while waiting. Our full experience was about 2 hours.
Great neighborhood spot in Queen Anne. great service and atmosphere. The sourdough bread is wonderful. Steak is a bit expensive for what you get, and the chocolate torte was just ok.
Small portion but delicious. Recommend Steak Tartare, Bone Marrow, Spaghetti! Service is wonderful too!
How to cook a wolf would always have quality pasta and yummy bread. Cannot drink this time but always loved the wine selections. Although I'd love to see more varieties of pasta if possible. Service is wonderful too!
We recently moved to Seattle and this restaurant was recommended by several friends. We stopped by one evening for cocktails and appetizers.
I think the vibe of this restaurant is great. Very intimate and gives that classic neighborhood restaurant/hidden gem feel.
I’m hesitant to ever comment on service unless it’s truly bad. We didn’t have bad service, but we sat at the bar and the bartender was swamped. A runner put in our food and drink order. The only time we spoke to a server was to close out our tab.
The bread was great, especially with the garlic spread. We ordered the ahi crudo which seemed fresh, but unfortunately the dish was bland. Lastly, we ordered the Brussel sprouts…I will admit I didn’t realize they came smothered in some sort of anchovy paste (we eat anything so not a big deal). However, this was so salty you couldn’t take a bite without making a face. I was going to send the dish back, but my partner was adamant it was tolerable enough to finish.
We’re still very intrigued by this restaurant and plan to go back and try other items on the menu. I’m all about a second chance and admittedly, this may not be the kind of place you drop in for cocktails and apps.
Our server said this is a restaurant where one cannot go wrong with the menu and they were spot on! Reservations are a must though couples and single diners may luck out with a table. For the two of us we ordered three appetizers and one main dish to split and felt the portions were generous.
This was a super cute spot with moody ambiance, a disco ball, and great music. We came for Seattle Restaurant Week and our waiter was very helpful and knowledgeable and all the food was delicious. The risotto was my favorite but nothing was anything short of tasty.
Great service. Decent ambience. Both indoor and outdoor seating (heated). Tried multiple dishes. All lacked flavor.
Everything was fantastic. The food was great. It is served as more family style than individual and I know that my boyfriend doesn't prefer that, but I do so not a problem for me. He didn't catch that little note on the menu so I feel like a directive from the wait staff would make it more clear for people as just added clarity of getting the info out there. Also, I feel like we didn't see our waiter as often as I would think we should in such a small space, but that is probably just my personal preference. There were four of us in our party and I think we all enjoyed the experience.
This is our third time to htcaw. The second time to this location. Our first experience to celebrate a birthday event here was absolutely amazing. Then we tired the Capitol Hill location and it was slightly disappointing. Then we came back again to this location to find out that the dishes and drinks are not very consistent. I ordered their fabulous risotto and immediately I notice that it looked different. It still taste good, but not as good. The drinks taste different too, turns out they forgot to put syrup in one of them.
Perhaps it was a way too busy Wednesday evening for them and it was hectic, but I’d really appreciate if dishes are not made with rush and stress. Me, as a customer can feel all that. The two pictures are the same order of risotto, the second one is the first time we tried it, the amazing one. The first pic is from yesterday, the rice were covered with soup/ sauce.
An amazing experience. The food, 10/10. The drinks, 10/10. The quality of service, 10/10. Could not ask for a better dining experience for a long weekend trip to Seattle!
If you like Negronis or Old Fashioneds, get the burbon cocktail
Yes. All of it please. Contemporary Italian cuisine at its best. In our party was one gluten free and one keto person. At an Italian restaurant. And we left stuffed. Service was attentive and personable. Order dishes to share and you can't go wrong.
Literally some of the best food I've ever had in my life. Dining experience and waiter were phenomenal. Free champagne to celebrate our anniversary. Cannot say enough great things about this restaurant!!
Excellent Appetizers! Had a great dinner here, some champagne, some cocktails and wine. Really loved the Broccolini and Burrata.
The dessert cannoli also was divine. They put it on the menu the day before we went it was a recent chef's creation and an awesome recommendation from our server.
They have half wine bottles which is nice when you want to just have like a glass or two between two people. Our recommendation for the wine based on the food wasn't my favorite and the server didn't describe the wine much for an otherwise well curated wine list. Hopefully that's something they work on more!
But overall great experience
Very good food, but I dont think adequate to the prices.
I really liked that when I questioned what oil they are using they were willing to swap out the canola. I find a lot of healthy restaurants use unhealthy cooking oils so it was great that they accommodated that. The downside was their 4% surcharge, it’s inelegant - just increase your prices :-)
The food quality was great. The interior atmosphere cold I would say to sit outside.
The food is very delicious and reasonable place.
If you dont like the cold make a reservation early or way in advance or else its good out side with heaters.
I enjoyed with my family.
If I lived in Queen Anne this would be my regular spot. Affable bar, great food, interesting wine list. Lots of fabulous veggie forward dishes and crave worthy pastas!
This is our favourite local restaurant and it’s always delicious! Everything on the menu is a winner and the staff are super friendly without being overwhelming. We take any visitors to Seattle here and they are always blown away!
Honestly one of my favorite restaurants I’ve been to lately. I grew up cooking a lot of Italian dishes so it is rare that I’ll go out for Italian food. However, this was exceptional. Everything was so fresh, the pasta was just amazing and flavorful, and I look forward to making it out to the NYC location sooner than later.
Great food with a good outside atmosphere with heaters and music. Highly recommend the marrow! Staff was friendly and helpful in choosing beverages and missing spots in the meal.
It’s always a special treat to visit How to Cook a Wolf in Queen Anne, especially with the cozy indoor seating and atmosphere. I always enjoyed sitting at the counter and watching the chefs do their magic. The pasta and wine here is some of the best in the city!
Also happy to see that Ethan Stowell’s team has been keeping active with their outdoor seating and take away orders. Keep up the great work!
How To Cook Exceptional Food
It was our first time here and not the last. This is one of the places I've had on my list for awhile and we happened to be in Queen Anne. Everything we ordered did not disappoint. The staff was knowledgeable, friendly and service was impeccable.
The Sea Wolf Sourdough is one item you will want to add to your starter list. The accompaniment of the garlic balsamic and spread makes it worth breaking a no-carb diet. We shared the Cauliflower, Crispy Duck Leg and Tagliarini with Douglas Fir Truffles. The Tagliarini is very filling and has quite a kick from the cacio e pepe. The Crispy Duck Leg is small, but I'm still a fan. It's flavorful and pairs well with the collard greens.
Overall, it's a spectacular experience. I would highly recommend making reservations here.
The bread is outstanding. The salmon and the beet salad were very good as well. The clam pasta however was a little too spicy it tended to overpower the clams which should be the star of the show.
The food is good, the vegetables are pretty good. The tomatoes were the best dish we had for the night.
It's a more casual type restaurant than you would expect from the price.
Nice ambiance! I took my friend here for a shared plate of anchovy spaghetti. The hostess was not at all friendly or accommodating and treated my Vietnamese friend as if she couldn't understand English when she asked about an empty inside table. The waiter, on the other hand, was quite congenial and pleasant and responsive. The spaghetti was thick and pasty and, although I expected a bit of salt from the anchovies, this w-a-y over the top. The waiter offered to bring us another plate but we had had our fill.
Spendy date but wow what a great place! Wonderful selection of food, even vegan options. Bountiful selection of wines and a Grappa which I tried and discovered I don't like at all.
How many times am I allowed to review the same place? I don’t care- this restaurant truly loves its customers. There’s such a great community, AND THE FOOD IS SO GOOD. Their takeout options have been fantastic! And great at cost wine.
So much love and thought and care goes into this place, and you can feel it when you’re eating! 🐺 🖤
Got three pastas (ravioli, pork one, and one that had wild herbs). Wild herbs was too minty, others were good. Also got 4 side plates - pork belly, fried polenta, burrata, and chicken liver pate/mousse. Good food as usual, get the pork items. Burrata is always good but tasted better in the summer when it was served with berries. Also recommend the pate + polenta.
Everything on this menu was off the charts delicious. Best dish was beet salad, pistachio butter was incredible. Pastas delicious.. Smoked tomato sauce particularly interesting and delicious. Highly recommended!
I enjoyed my dinner here but I wouldn’t go back as nothing was stand out. The flavors were good but sometimes they were too subtle (roasted shishito, cured salmon). I enjoyed the mussels tagliatelle but it was a bit much of one flavor for one person. Dishes are designed to be shared but I feel a strong dish should be able to carry itself even if that’s all one eats.
HTCAW in QA has been on my list for months and my husband finally made a reservation for my birthday. I cannot rave enough about the experience! Everything - the food (including the timing), the drinks, the service, the ambience - incredible. We had the marrow bone, burrata, agnolotti, strozzapretti, and espresso pot de crème. Every dish was perfectly seasoned, garnished and presented. Parker was our waiter; he has mastered attentiveness (without being overwhelming!) and thoughtfulness, all with a great sense of humor. We will definitely be back!
It was our team dinner and my manager selected this place. Everything about this place is great. The venue, the staff, the food and overall experience was awesome. They have this family style where we don't have to worry about what to pick for dinner. They bring everything little by little that we can taste and try out everything that's on their menu. The red wine was awesome, and we were so full as the food kept on coming. The dessert was awesome too. It's worth visiting this place.
Another Ethan Stowell restaurant but unique on its own.
You will find similar themes in the menus here at other restaurants in Ethan’s group, but still has those aspects that differentiate it.
The menu has a few pastas but the main part of the menu are the tapas style plates. The food focuses on modern, PNW twists on plates found in Italy in Spain. We definitely enjoyed our experience
Partner and I came here for dinner after the beach. We were so pleasantly surprised. Service was terrific. Food was so fresh and cocktails were on point. Truly recommend. On the pricier side. Four plates and four cocktails came out to about $140 with tax the 20% on top as tip (because they were great).
Went here for restaurant week. The Burrata was delicious and so was the risotto. Their cocktails were very good - I tried the Florence.
So good!! Delicious dishes at very reasonable prices. Would recommend to smaller parties that like to share.
Excellent service and beautiful presentation of dishes. Everything is fresh and flavorful. It’s nearly worth it just to come here for the Seawolf bread and a bottle of wine.
Amazing restaurant, amazing experience. I went here on a date and was not disappointed. We ordered the hamachi cold plate which featured extremely fresh cold fish with some radish and some sauce that went extremely well together. Followed that with a cauliflower bacon chickpea salad and some rice balls and delicious pasta. For dessert we had chocolate mousse with pear and a crumble. We also had a couple of glasses of wine each. The hostess was very helpful in providing suggestions and even brought out a couple of tasters.
What a beautiful experience. Their menu has changed because of covid but none the less everything was great. All of the staff was great 👍 …
The sourdough, bucatini and olives were really good but all of our other dishes were so-so.
A really cool vibe that's executed without taking it too far or becoming pretentious. The food is incredibly good, the drinks are great, service is excellent. I loved the music and the interior. I went for a cocktail previously unknown to me and have left with a new favourite! Delicious pasta and fantastic sourdough bread. I am absolutely coming back next time I'm in Seattle.
Some of the appetizers and desserts were delicious. The main dishes like the pork chop and ravioli were unimaginative with little ingenuity being shown in both presentation and flavor for the high standard that this restaurant strives for. On the other hand my silverware was covered in old food which was an unpleasant surprise when I unwrapped it from the napkin. The time limit of 2h is not great and they remind you (within minutes of the mark) that other customers are waiting no matter if you finished eating or not. The 4% restaurant surcharge is a great little surprise that can be found buried in a note that’s in another note at the bottom of the reservation details. Service in general was ok, but food left much to be desired. Items like bread should be served fresh and ours was not.
Well crafted cocktails. Each dish we had was awesome. The hamachi crudo with the blackberry granita was very delicate and refreshing. Seared scallops was cooked to perfection. The potato gnocchi was rich and creamy. Service was very informative and polite. A really good atmosphere.
Exquisitely made food that I sadly did not have the pallet to enjoy. The only thing I actually liked was the sourdough bread and associated garlic / butter.
Our servers went out of their way to make our anniversary special, and it meant so much to us! We sat in one of the "wolf dens" outside and stayed warm. Thank you-- we will definitely be back!
The bucatini Cacio e Pepe is HUGE (forgot to get a picture of it)
Food was good but short of greatness. Nice neighborhood and a cute, small space. Menu is attractive but the execution in the kitchen isn’t 5 star quality.
It’s my 2nd visit last week and the experience wasn’t as pleasing as before. Me and my friends went for Seattle Restaurant Week and we weren’t happy about the food, the pasta dishes were very salty.
This might be the best pasta I have ever had. And I have a solid share of pasta under my belt… including months and months in Italy! I love to go here for any reason!
Incredible experience. The food, the cocktails, the wine, all excellent.
We had some beet cured sockeye salmon, and a burata which both tasted incredibly fresh and flavorful.
We had both a ravioli and a moscatelli pasta dish. The moscatelli was with a house made sausage tomato sauce that was my favorite.
The portions and pricing of the bread was disappointing to me though, I almost rated 4 stars but it seemed too petty. Although they use terms like "bread service" and it's listed separately on the menu the bread is itself a small plate dish. You get only one slice per person which they charge $3pp for. It was certainly very good, and the roasted garlic and honey butter spreads were phenomenal, but the quantity was disappointing. I guess I expected especially since it wasn't complimentary, and priced per person I would get to have some with the whole meal, but by the time the pasta came out it was gone and I realized that was all we got.
After tax and tip I spent about $200 on dinner and drinks for two but felt like I'd been nickel and dimed over the bread
But bread nonwithstanding it was one of the best meals I've had in the city and I'll likely be back sometime.
Small portions that were marketed to us as family style. Maybe we just enjoy bigger portions and we were more than happy to order more entrées, which we did. The portions sizes didn't seem big enough to be family style. So just be aware. The food was immaculate otherwise.
Imagine walking into a wonderfully warm lit environment featuring curved wood ceilings and amazing food, but also the sounds of snoop doggy dog rapping about gin and juice. That is “how to cook a wolf.”
The kitchen staff are obviously friends, and staggeringly talented. The cocktails are great, the wait staff are so kind and accommodating, and the ambiance is ambeyond my expectations. Get a reservation, and enjoy the entire experience.
Everything was delicious and beautifully plated! The menu didn't offer a extreme variety of choices but all the things that we got were perfectly prepared and really tasty! I highly recommend this place.
Food and service were amazing! We loved the complimentary prosecco for my birthday - how thoughtful! My only gripes were that the dining room was too loud (loud music and sound-reflective walls) and a bit too dim - I could barely read the menu.
Food and cocktails were lovely, however I had said it was my wife’s birthday in my reservation and even called the day before asking if I needed to bring candles. They let me know they had it all set. We proceeded to watch other tables get a birthday aperitif and then a candle in their dessert. For us - nothing - no recognition of my wife’s birthday whatsoever - no candle. Lovely place for dinner but not for a special occasion sorry to say.
Great food! Best service!
I like the fried veggie and hamachi sashimi!
Amazing food. Whoever didn’t like this place has serious mental health issues. Amazing food from start to finish.
Had an amazing experience here as a visitor to Seattle and all it has to offer. Just incredible food, great ambiance, and a wonderful server made the whole evening perfect. My last meal on the west coast did not disappoint. Thank you Eric!
Great service, great vibe, great food. Can’t wait to go back, it was one of the best experiences I’ve had in Seattle so far.
Delicious! Hands down on the top 5 for food I have enjoyed in the PNW!
The food was just okay. The service was disoriented. Fish was overcooked and ravioli lackluster. Grilled broccoli and steak tartar were the best part of the meal. Maybe stick with the small plate appetizers if you go here and leave the main dishes. Better yet, just go elsewhere.
This was our 4th time there and we absolutely love it every time! The food is incredible and you can see the passion that the chef has! Our waiter Joya was amazing and informative. We haven’t had a bad experience yet and doubt we will!
Well worth the wait! Everything was wonderful! Be sure to save room for the Chocolate Malted Bundino!
Excellent service and modern take on Italian and Eclectic decor. The food was unique and delicious! The gnocchi, steak, and ahi was amazing!!
I have been to this restaurant a few times. Food is always delicious, service is great and welcoming! Will keep comimg back!
The marrow, the pasta and the caramal gelato with sea salt were my favourite. Oz is a wonderful host.
Pasta is incredible! Drink selection is great and staff was very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend getting a reservation because this place is worth every bit of 5 stars
I would say this is my favorite restaurant in Seattle!! Love the vide and staff, amazing cocktail!
Outstanding service and artistically crafted dishes. Excellent esoteric wine list. This restaurant should definitely be on every Seattle visit.
While the food was incredible, I need to start with the stellar service. We dined in during restaurant week and sat outside. It was a cold & windy night, and one person in our party wasn’t wearing her pants, so she got extra cold.🚫👖🥶The staff brought us a blowtorch, an extra space heater…and then another extra space heater.🔥🔥🔥One server even offered his jacket to my poor chilly pants-less friend (she’s Canadian she really should’ve known better 🇨🇦🍁🤷🏻♀️). We were celebrating my birthday, the end of an amazing conference, my term as Madame President, and our first opportunity to be together in over two years. The staff saw our celebratory vibe and raised it.🥳🎉 We got wine, bubbles, and chose from the three-course restaurant week menu. Appetizers were tasty (shout out to the burrata and the polenta fritters) and the mains, particularly the risotto, were also very good. Dessert was amazing (I got the hazelnut gelato and added a shot of espresso to make it affogato). Two in our party also enjoyed espresso martinis.🍸☕️ Despite the bitter cold and lack of appropriate attire, we left with full bellies and warm hearts. ❤️☺️✨Also, the basil disco ball was a nice touch.👌🌱🕺
Delicious food the price is worth it for what you get. Just that you can't walk in, bc keeps booked up. So make a reservation a few days in advance is a good idea!
Unfortunately it was a rough night all around for the team. The bone marrow and wine suggestion was FANTASTIC.
But after waiting for over an hour, we were informed it was about time to give up our table. Totally fine if we were dining that long- we were not. Out tartare (which is raw) never came out, our mains never made it to grill, and we were out of wine.
We had to ask them to just cancel everything and let us pay for what we consumed. Everyone was sweet and working hard. My experience may differ from yours, give them a try!
I just won't be back anytime soon. They have a ton of sister restaurants that I'll try before I come back this way.
All in all the experience was underwhelming. The strozzapretti was bland. I think they forgot to include the walnuts. At least I couldn't detect their flavor or texture. We ordered two apps but one was forgotten. We weren't charged for it so we didn't say anything. The tagliatelle was good, but lacked anything special. I decided not to order a cocktail because the website indicated all cocktails were being served as doubles at $18 each. I have been here before and absolutely loved the food, but unfortunately this visit didn't meet those standards. It's disappointing, especially since I payed over $60 for my half of the tab.
I was so hyped to try this place after hearing the reviews but really disappointed in the whole thing. I really think this place is overrated.
Atmosphere: Cute queen anne location with a modern look. Outdoor seating available.
Food: highly disappointed in just about everything we had.
I think the waiter set us up with high expectations when he said the portions are huge and super shareable - we definitely found that not to be true. For example, the Bistecca was suppose to be "huge" and it was 4 pieces..... maybe he meant "shareable" meaning "it was cut up." =/ And it was like $60+ for 4 pieces of meat. The flavor wasn't even all that special. Got the Bucatini Americiana pasta - found that pasta to be gummy, maybe overcooked? Unsure but gummy is not how you want pasta to be. Pasta was lightly sauced so it lacked flavor as well. Got the Bone Marrow which looked impressive and it was good. Came with 4 pieces of bread and that was not enough so we had to get another order of the bread. Be careful, if you ask for the garlic and butter with the bone marrow bread, you will be charged extra for it. The waiter made it seem like he was giving it to us complimentary but we found the charge on the bill. It's a minor detail but for a $260 dinner, you'd think that they can throw in some butter and garlic without the extra charge....
Nothing super called out to us on the dessert menu but honestly we were still hungry so we got the Creamuxe and cookie because it sounded interesting but.... the name was the best part. It was just a cold snickerdoodle cookie with chocolate mousse on top.
Overall, I wouldn't recommend it as I think this place is overrated and the food does not warrant the high price tag.
The hospitality is warm and friendly. The food is impeccably prepared and delicious.
The type of place that keeps you wanting to come back again and again. The wine list is impressive but the food steals the show!
Food was ok but the aesthetic and outstanding customer service makes up for it.
Worthy of its acclaim. All the food was well-executed but my table especially like the tartare topped with roe. Service was friendly, prompt, and knowledgeable about the menu and cocktails.
I read some reviews about the food being generous on salt and I'm trying to watch my sodium anyway. Our host mentioned it as I noted it on my reservation and they said they could withhold dishes' finishing salt. I found the food to be sufficiently seasoned this way,
Honestly one of my favorite restaurants I’ve been to lately.
Everything was so fresh, the pasta was just amazing and flavorful .
Ethan Stoll is obviously amazing, but Eric & Sam are what made it for us. 100% worth the hype; Our advice; Stick to the specials & listen to your waiter. You cannot go wrong with any option on their menu & the wine prices seem too good to be true; but they are.
Awesome food and Wine. The service was personalized. Got to meet Ethan Stowell. Great experience.
The garlic confit on the sourdough is fantastic, as are the pork cheeks and the cheesecake!
The only reason I didn't put 5 star is because all of the dishes were really salty! We had to send one back, the gnocchi. The second one we got that was less salty was delicious though!! We got the hamachi collar special, Brussels sprouts & gnocchi. Our waiter/bartender was Joey and he was great! Gave us free champagne since we were there celebrating my new job. I think it was priced very reasonably. I would definitely and will definitely be back!
What a wonderful fun night to enjoy with friends and celebrate our anniversary. The outdoor social distanced patio was perfect on a gorgeous summer evening. The service was wonderful and well paced and the variety of dishes we enjoyed were all amazing.
Heard a lot of positive buzz about this place. Nice atmosphere but the food while using high quality ingredients, was just ok and far too salty. The risotto was more like cheese rice and had so much parmesean (a very salty cheese) that we really couldn't eat more than a few bites. The salmon was great quality fish but slightly salty as well and the guanciale was excessively salty. Overall glad we were using a gift card to pay for the meal.
The wine list was a little constricted, only having Italian, Oregon, and Washington represented, but the food was great. Nice twists on some classics. Great play with flavors. And, service was perfect.
The dinner was great, small plates are small but delicious. The pasta and the gnocchi were cooked to perfection. Will come back again
The food and atmosphere was great. Fun, small dishes, good wine, fantastic olives and bread.
I discovered this place while dining at another restaurant nearby. The restaurant I was in was somewhat empty, but looking over to How to Cook a Wolf, it was packed with socially-distanced people, which is a good sign. I quickly did a google maps search to get the name of the restaurant and made my reservations. It did not disappoint on any level. From the helpful service to the wine selection to each expertly crafted, unique dish, the only question we had was, "When are we coming back?"
This was the best Italian food you can get in this town! It gives you great quality and taste and also the atmosphere typical Italian! I recommend this restaurant for a date night or to go with friends and family. You guys really made me very happy and contented! Thank you for sharing your kindness with us! My family and I were very satisfied!
Came here with high expectations but unfortunately not much of an appetite (that was my fault going into the meal). Cocktails and appetizers were delicious with main entrees a bit larger than expected. Let's just say my eyes were bigger than my stomach. Lovely interior design.
For the appetizer I ordered the sourdough which was well toasted and bites with the Honey garlic and balsamic spreads were delicious. The risotto was OK, definitely needed more salt but a bite with the pepper was good. We also ordered the bicatini wild boar bolognese which was very good. Service was slow, wouldn't be my first choice for Italian.
Solid food, tried almost everything on the menu and thoroughly enjoyed all of it. Cocktails were ok.
This place is great. The restaurant is warm and inviting. Started off with a delicious Beef Carpaccio - pretty good, Warm Roasted Beets and Rigatoni. We finished our dinner with a Chocolate mousse.
The prices were reasonable. Try is out and see for yourself.
Seattle Restaurant Week review: this place is fantastic! The week deal is $50 and you get three appetizers, one entree, and a desert included. This meal included a few firsts for me including steak tartare. It was super tasty!
I've been here several times for date night, and it always exceeds expectations. The food is creative and delicious. The service is attentive, but not overbearing. The ambiance is second to none. It's like being inside of a cozy, whiskey-barrel inspired cabin. Last but not least - DISCO BALL!!! Halfway through our most recent dinner they flipped that bad boy on while I was shoveling home-made pasta to funky fresh tunes. Total game changer.
The food here was amazing! I loved the way everything was seasoned and how all the flavors just complimented each other. I am salivating just thinking about the food I ate there. The service and staff were awesome. It was nice being able to sit at the bar and seeing the chef prepare the desserts and appetizers in front of you. it was a bit cramped at times, but decor and atmosphere definitely fit the bill.
An amazing dinner experience! The service here is impeccable and the food was so delicious! The butter and balsamic that comes with the baguette is to die for and the burrata with fresh tomatoes were divine. It is a little pricey but it's definitely worth it!
This place is always excellent. I visit every few months and have never been disappointed. Their menu changes with seasonal offerings but all of the dishes we've tried have a great balance of fresh, lively flavors. Currently, the cucumbers with anise hyssop, yogurt, and trout roe is delicious! And definitely try their bread. Yum, yum, yum. I recommend skipping the pasta and saving room for one of their desserts.
So so good. Everything we tried was delicious, but the pasta was really filling. We followed the waitress's suggestion on how many shared plates to get for two people but it was a little bit too much and then we didn't have room for dessert. Some of the dishes are quite spicy, so check with your waiter if you are sensitive to that. Good vegetarian options.
Deserves more than a 40% tip. Collard greens were the highlight of a meal consisting of steak tartar with smoked roe porchetta and marrow bones. Well done with everything including cocktails. Will be back again with more friends.
This has to be one of the finest restaurants in the country right now.
Each dish was excellent. We ordered 5 to share between two of us. Service was excellent. Only 8 tables, so getting in isn't easy. But, it's worth it. Very impressed. Look forward to returning. One of the best meals I've ever had. Yum.
If I lived in Seattle, I’d be here a lot! What a fantastic little jewel of a place. From the very friendly staff, the cozy atmosphere, the chef preparing your meal within eye view, and the amazingly delicious food, the experience we had was superb!
My friends were visiting from Texas and this was our last night in Seattle. I’m glad we saved the best for last! I think I’ve told at least 20 people about this place, definitely do not miss out!
The staff was incredibly friendly and the food was amazing. My sister and I showed up without a reservation after getting our nails done on a Tuesday night just looking to grab a quick dinner. The place was packed so figured we wouldn't be able to eat here. The hostess was so sweet and explained that their was a reservation in 45 minutes for the last table but if we were not planning on having a full three course meal we could probably make it work. We were thrilled!
The food was fantastic. The recommend family style with some apps, mains, and desserts. Family style is so great, you get to try everything without having to beg for a bite :D We had the bread with roasted garlic and butter for our app. The garlic was so well roasted, it spread like butter on the bread and wasn't bitter at all. We also had the Gnocchi and Mostaccioli. I slightly preferred the Gnocchi since it was so creamy and rich but the Mostaccioli had a slight kick which made it delicious too.
Overall I highly recommend How To Cook A Wolf. The staff was fantastic and the food was remarkable.
Food was incredible!! The atmosphere, the platting all of it was awesome. Even the folks I spoke with on the phone as I tried to get a reservation were incredibly helpful.
Our waitress is the reason for the three stars, I'd over look it but she left such a bad taste in our mouth. On her second visit when we were not ready to order anything but a drink she made sure to let us know she was going to see if a reservation was after us (it'd been 11 minutes). When we did ask for the bill her "oh now you want the bill?" comment made me glad that the service charge was already included because I'm not sure what sort of gratuity I'd leave otherwise.
Will happily go back and try! I'm sure this was just a bad night for her.
Excellent fare. The food was prepared very well; the fish was tender and flakey, the steak was perfectly medium rare. The weakest point would have been the dessert cake, which was still quite good
Great experience. Simple ingredients executed very well.
I wasn't sure what to expect from How to Cook a Wolf, but my dinner their really sold me on their menu. Plates are designed to share, so my partner and I ordered an appetizer and two entrees, along with bread for two. The bread I would skip, it's a single, buttered slice that they serve with garlic oil and some butter. Why you would additional grease on an already greased slice is beyond me, neither the portion size nor flavor is worth it.
The scallop appetizer redeemed the bread, honestly an amazingly constructed dish. Our entrees were well done, I especially enjoyed the salty/sweet balance of the spaghetti. Dessert was the cannoli, very light with the ricotta filling, but they are baked instead of fried so they losesome crispness.
I am very interested in visiting again to try some of their other plates.
Wonderful place, came for SO's birthday and it really was a great choice, a small intimate place, the décor was quite minimalist, but it worked well. For the food, we had squash dish as an appetizer was really tasty can't remember the name though. We ordered roasted chicken and ravioli as main course. For desert chocolate terrine was very tasty. The service was very good, the waitress was helpful and very sweet in explaining the dishes and suggesting wines to go with them. 5/5 would definitely visit again.
A bit disappointed. For the price, the meals are better than ok, but they lack highlights to make me feel delicious.
Absolutely love this place! It was one of the first places I went to when I visited Seattle on vacation and then one of the first when I finally moved here.
First of all the staff are fantastic! They are very friendly and are fully aware of whats on the menu and the ingredients of each dish and they will describe each plate as they put them in front of you.
The food and the ingredients they use are just amazing, definitely some of the best food I've eaten in the area and around the country actually. Each dish is very finely tuned to have a great balance of flavors and textures to make it the most enjoyable and flavorful it possibly can be.
After talking to the chef I learned that she switches the menu quite often, every few weeks, so that creates a very exciting experience each time I go back.
This is definitely a place I will continually come back to since they offer such great food and excellent staff.
Excellent restaurant, I'd suggest reservations. We did have to wait a few minutes for our table. One of the cooks gave us their olives while we waited. I do not like olives at all but these were delicious. The pasta was very good and you could tell it was all made fresh. Perfect restaurant for a date night
This place is the essence of elegance and friendliness all in one. The staff here are like family, and the food is unique and inspired. From small light plates to heartier pasta and entrees, the dishes are stunning and there is always something new. Cocktails are thoughtfully crafted, and the staff always show their sincere enjoyment of people and service. How To Cook A Wolf is our home away from home... We always end up here. Also, the restroom is the most beautiful I have ever seen... And that's always important. 😊👍
As many others have said in these reviews, the food is fantastic. It is. It's not a huge menu to pick from, but everything is fresh and interesting. However, the ambiance is sorely lacking. The decor is wonderful, candle on the table, low light, but the noise problem was a big one.
I brought my wife there for our anniversary dinner and it was so loud that we spent most of the evening leaning over our table shouting at each other just to be heard above the noise. Now it's not a big place but when it's full of people the noise is unbearable. You're very close to other parties and the tables are deep so it's actually easier to hear your neighbors than your date! Add to that, 80s music blasting over the stereo and you feel like you're in the local dive bar. We left without ordering dessert because we were tired of not being able to hear each other.
Lovely food, lovely service, but I couldn't recommend it for a date spot because of the noise problem.
Cocktails were amazing. Staff courteous but absolutely stayed out of your way when you didn't need them. Food hit the spot and I really like the ambience. To skip the tough to get reservations you can show up early and look for a seat at the bar. Enjoy!
Absolutely fantastic. Small intimate restaurant with wonderful food and amazing service. Rigatoni was the best I’ve ever had in my life, that’s saying something for me. The sea wolf bread is something special. Great wine list, cocktails are also wonderful. Will be back! Loved everything!
This restaurant was incredible. Atmosphere (open patio, cool booth setup, friendly bar area, it has it all. The employees were super friendly and able to clearly articulate what was on the menu, and in the kitchen that week - they frequently update their menu based on the food they have on hand which is super cool. Everything had a unique flavor unlike most other meals I've had in the area. It is a little more on the foodie side than a standard go-to for a certain item, so go in with an open mind and interest in trying something new - talented chefs!
I wish I had taken some pics but I forgot. Really nice place. Recommend for a date night or for dinner with friends and family. Relatively small place but very cozy. Great drinks. Great food. The servings are not too big so you can go through several things and taste it all. The serving staff is awesome, Willing to make adjustments, provide good suggestions. Sit at the bar to have even more involved conversations.
Absolutely wonderful new age cuisine. Expect to find yourself in a very intimate setting - and make sure you have the carpaccio - or the seasonal special appetizer. Great date spot or location for family from out of town. Staff is well informed with regards to offering and wine list. Have consumed their offerings multiple time. Definitely a go-to for out of town visitors. Don’t forget to make a reservation!
Was there October 1 to celebrate my 70th birthday. Excellent, creative, congenial service in the front of the house...splendid cocktails and staff who appeared genuinely happy to be working there. Exceptional food from the back of the house. Duck, salmon and pork bellies all uniformly interesting and tasty. Ditto for various smaller plates we ordered on staff recommendation. It is a great joy to be served by intelligent, engaged staff. Will be back for sure.
The service was a bit on the spotty side. Our water was usually filled but the waitperson would do a disappearing act for a while. The food is good but nothing to write home about. I think I expected to be blowing away. If you are a short person like 5'8" or below, don't sit on the bench. They are very uncomfortable. I would recommend a chair. The restaurant tax on a 20% service charge which they keep. They are very clear about this but I don't understand why they just don't include that in the price instead of tacking it on to the bill. I guess all in all I was disappointed in the hype.
Very good semi casual upscale dining in Queen Anne. Italian inspired food with intimate seating and a relatively small dining area keeps the place from feeling loud or overpopulated.
The wood panelling does a good job with noise mitigation and it was clean, well managed, and adequately staffed. Every entree was delicious, particularly the bolognese and spaghetti. Gluten free options were available and the staff were very en pointe regarding allergen issues.
This is a perfect place for visitors from out of town. Small enough to be cozy and personal, but sophisticated in their approach to cuisine and customer care. Top notch!
What an amazing experience going there, the food seems real simple and very tasty, simple meaning just let the food be, don't add tons of spices and things. Excellent service from the staff, they really took care of us, she was totally in a great mood it was awesome. Thanks for everything, I Highly recommend How To Cook a Wolf. 🤙😎🤙👽🤙👣🤙🤪🤙👽
We had a fabulous post-vaccination dinner at one of the Wolf's Den outside dining tables. Steak tartare and burrata to start, then a cavalcade of even more deliciousness with the buccatini, anchovy pasta, nettle pesto risotto, wild boar rigatoni, and halibut! Server gave great recommendations and excellent service.
Well, I guess it was what I expected. Expensive and small portions. I came here during SRW so it wasn't as expensive as it could've been.
Regardless, the food was still great. I had the scallops and the other person had pasta that was good but nothing I've never tasted before. The restaurant is small (make a reservation). I would still like to come back and try the regular menu and a larger variety of dishes since scallops and pasta are relatively generic dishes that are hard to "blow you out of the water".
Given that, there's nothing I would really complain about but just that none of the dishes were exceptional (don't get me wrong, they were still good).
Service is always incredible. Cocktails and wine are excellent. And food is very unique and very tasty. I recommend reservations!
Staff were great , cosy little restaurant. Broccoli was delish I just found the mushroom risotto to be undercooked and so although the flavour was good I didn't fully enjoy eating the meal.
Gets crowded so go early or on an off night. Bar tenders are great and knowledgeable. Food & wine is top shelf. I love going here when I can go early, like 5:30ish. You can call first and they’ll save you a seat if you’re close. Ambiance is very nice!
We enjoyed appetizers and wine here mid day.😋 …
Great food!!! Awesome service!
I had the Bolognese and my date had the gnocchi. They were both the most mouth watering delicious pastas I have ever had. Cocktails prepared by the most charismatic server ever as well as a special fresh oyster on the half shell which we're also stellar. Amazing time, and I will be returning soon.
Super knowledgeable staff with fresh creative food to match.
Excellent high end Italian cuisine in a very intimate style. Menu includes a variety of small plates and around 10 larger portions. My companion and I shared the olives and the bruschetta followed by the ravioli. For dessert we had the cannoli. All were excellent.
It's quite small, so there are few reservations available, but if that's the case, then you can sit at the bar instead. The bartender puts on a good show!
Menu is right sized and every dish we ordered was well made. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Will definitely return on our next visit to Seattle.
Daniel was incredible! The food fantastic! Highly recommend the Tagliatelle!!!
Despite the very limited seating, part of why it is often difficult to grab a reservation, and a bit of a noisy ambiance, the food here is amazing. One of the handful of the places in Seattle where I'd happily wear a blindfold and point to random menu items to order because I have complete faith in the chef's choice and quality of preparation. Service charge of I think 20% is automatically added to your bill. The wait staff is attentive, knowledgeable and honest with recommendations. You may wait a few minutes in an awkward area before you're greeted, though.
How to Cook a Wolf is one of my favorite restaurants in the city, great for out of town guests or even a counter-top dinner on your own. The atmosphere is very cozy, the food is always delicious and very well presented, as are the array of cocktails! Highly recommend a visit :)
So fantastic. The food is quality and it doesn't drill a hole in your wallet. They take as much great care in table service as they so the food. And the food is spectacular. Very unique. You will try foods you never thought existed. If you want to impress a date, go here.
Great cocktails and wine list, very lovely staff...but not all the dishes my table ordered were great nor worth the price tag (salmon bruschetta were over-cooked and plastic-tasting...the carpaccio and hamachi were just decent) and they were very sweet to offer a free birthday dessert. Would give them another try!
Ethan Stowell does it again; incredible meal. Upon walking in, it’s surprising how much personality is in such a cozy restaurant. The wait staff greets you as if you’re an old friend, and recommends drinks and food options that pair well together. The environment is dark with quiet music, though with the voices of other patrons it gets loud without being distracting. Very intimate. We got the burrata and pork belly, and couldn’t recommend either more. Burrata is light, and fit perfectly with our cocktails (ask the bartender to recommend an option based on your liquor preference, they won’t disappoint!).
Absolutely delicious and unique food! Its a great mix of traditional and creative Italian food, served in small, elegant portions. Come prepared to try and share and you will leave as full and satisfied as we did!
This is a little gem in the heart of Queen Anne. We loved the whole experience from start to finish. Our serves Zoeya was amazing and so was the whole staff . Highly recommend the Risotto. Do a Family style that way everyone gets to try it.
Phenomenal food and atmosphere. Get the pork belly and squash blossoms
This place was absolutely beautiful. The ambiance and the kind thoughtfulness of the staff. They went above and beyond to give me an excellent birthday dinner! We ordered the pork cheeks, burrata, rigatoni, and tagliarini and everything tasted like a dream. We are already excited to come back.
It's probably one of the best home made Italian pasta spots in all of LA! The environment is so welcoming. So much Italian culture in one small spot! I pretty much had a little bit of everything. The bolognese was definitely my favorite. I highly recommend La Pergoletta for a fun family night out.
I don't even have words for how amazing this experience was. From the start to the end the service was astounding and the food devine. Our reservations were right at opening, and we're seated right away. The small service location reminds one of a whiskey barrel, or the inside of a gypsy wagon, being hugged by wood.
It was my Birthday and my night started with a small sip if bubbles, as we examined the menu. Fried squash blossoms found their way to the table, spring pickles and a pistachio pesto taste... with warm cheese made for the perfect delicate taste.
The toast was also a delight, the honey butter that tasted light, but like magic when added below roasted garlic it married in a wonderfully sweet bite.
Our entrees arrived with a perfect timing that seemed near rehearsed, it wasn't rushed between courses but exact in timing. The gnocchi was if soft pillows with morelle mushrooms that have a soft woodsy note and deep flavor set off by peppercorn. The raviolis were dressed with Romano and crushed pepper and was like summer on a plate. The tomatoes were sweet and the sauce was balanced. It brought you to the edge of flavor and just left you on the edge if ecstasy.
Our dessert was a cannoli, a bit lighter in sweetness from traditional but still a stunning finish.
I recommend returning, or adventuring to find your own wolf.
One of the best restaurants in Seattle. Excellent share sized plates of delicious things like hamachi with zesty pickled things, hand made pasta with anchovies plus great wine and professional service. Relaxed yet classy atmosphere.
I managed to get a spot at the bar. The service was great and the drinks were great as well. Our appetizers were devoid of flavor, but the gnocchi was good. Go for drinks and go straight for pasta if you go, I won’t visit again likely.
The pasta was light and sauces were no traditional which I loved. All the veggie sides were delicious and the hamachi was amazing. Drinks were really good, we went across the street for dessert and wish we hadn't.
One of the best meals I've had in Seattle, in the 4-5 times that I've been.
We started with the scallop crudo, baby octopus, and soft cooked egg.
The scallop was very fresh and the toppings were chosen very well. Scallop has a very delicate flavor that should not be masked by heavier ingredients or flavors. Salmon roe can be overpowering, but in the amount used, it was fine. I thought the oil was a bit redundant, especially in that quantity, as salmon roe provides a balmy texture already. Crunchy vegetable on top (I forget what it is), was a great touch for texture and freshness.
Baby octopus was very good. Tender in texture, smokey in flavor. Great combination. Very hearty dish as an appetizer. Goes great with wine.
Soft cooked egg was delightful. Dungeness crab was very fresh slightly briny. Nicely balanced with the blandness of the egg. The spicy chips were a nice touch too.
The tagliatelle with beef cheek was a great pasta finisher. Filling and succulent. Great great pasta dish.
Service was impeccable. Great recommendations for wine.
This is one of my favorite places in Seattle for a nice night out. The service is outstanding, the food is incredible, and there is always something new on the menu to try.
If you can't get a reservation, ask if they can reserve some seating at the bar. It's cozy and delightful!
Excellent! We chose this as our first date night dinner since moving to Seattle, WA. We were certainly not sorry. Service, food, wine, atmosphere were all totally 5 star! Can't wait to try it again as the menu changes. Make a reservation!
We've been coming here for well over ten years and it remains one of our favorite neighborhood gems.
Absolutely stellar dinner and staff. I came in without a reservation when trapped on Queen Anne Hill due to traffic-apocalypse and, while they were not able to get me in right away, they got me a glass of wine and some snacks to tide me over. It was an incredible experience.
Hands down, one of the best dining experiences to be had in the Seattle area. Impeccable service, brilliant small plates, and spectacular cocktails. Tables are for suckers; grab a seat at the bar to watch the show.
Went here for my birthday and was not disappointed. As the three $ suggests, it's quite pricey, but I'd say well worth it. Everything we had was nothing shy of excellent.
Great service, phenomenal drinks, amazing specials. However their spaghetti was overwhelming with anchovies that didn't sit well with us. Would be interested in going back to try something else.
Oh man this place is soooo good. You can order literally any item on the menu and it will be fantastic, which is a rarity in my opinion. What I really love about this place is the servers. They are that perfect balance of helpful without hovering or neglecting you. They really make a meal here feel special.
We had an incredible meal last night! Wine list is thoughtful, a little daring...and at a great price! Each dish was spot on, balancing the freshest fish and produce with surprise touches of fruit here and there (cherry granita shaved across a hamachi crudo...). House smoked steelhead with pluots. Pastas are perfectly cooked. Even did a special morel dish with some pickled chanterelles for us. Did I mention the beautiful wines? And bartender created cocktails for each of the three of us from bases of rum, tequila and gin. Check it out!
Maybe it was my expectations or maybe it was what I ordered, but I found the food & drink to be average at best. Got the alaskan king salmon and it was nothing to write home about. Got the professor for a drink: it was mostly pre-made and was poured out of a glass container in a fridge - the rosemary garnish was freshly done. Should have got the pasta maybe? I'll never know.
This well known restaurant in Queen Anne is owned by one of members of Seattle’s restauranteur cartel, who own and operate an amalgam of successful, popular restaurants in Seattle. The cartel members with names such as Erickson, Douglas, Dillon, and in this case Stowell, open and close restaurants seemingly at will. All have a following, and all
seem to make money. Some I like, some are just okay. How to Cook A Wolf, even with its obnoxious name, tries hard to please.
The staff is pleasant, catering to the young clientele, playing hip hop and rap loudly on the sound system. The place is tiny, and thus the music was the star on this chilly Sunday night. As always, we sat at the bar and our server, although a bit saccharin and “over the top,” was
professional and friendly. The crispy duck leg was fantastic, but the portion very small. My requested classic cace e pepe pasta was overwhelmed by the peppercorns. While the pasta was cooked al dente, the over powering pepper almost made the dish in eatable. My wife began coughing after one taste and waved it off. I ate the pasta because I wanted her to enjoy the duck leg.
Surprisingly, I enjoyed How To Cook A Wolf more than my wife, who was appalled at the pasta; she being Italian. Hey, the kitchen hit 500, that’s okay, and makes me want to try it again.
Excellent cuisine in an beautifully setting! The unique dishes are often created with local ingredients. I have never had the same item twice and i have been here many times. A great date spot!
Warm atmosphere with friendly staff...they truly know how to pair food with wine/champagne/cocktails. Wonderful shareable plates so you can try many different dishes with amazing flavors.
Great food and the outdoor ambience is really nice, although I wish more of their staff were still wearing masks.
Pretty decent food, a little too quirky in my opinion, maybe that's just me. Also was cool to eat inside a gourd. Or I don't know what it is, there's no right angles in there. Great neighborhood right outside downtown Seattle.
The food was amazing. Definitely changed my opinion of beef tongue. The corned tongue was moist and delicious, and the beet salad was awesome too. Service was really nice and I loved the all-wood interior.
It's so good we honestly died a little. We had the sourdough , delicate squash, brussel sprouts , pasta with mushrooms, olives, and drinks. Can't wait to come back and try more.
The oat & nut crumbles give the Beet Salad interesting fun flavors. I would recommend it to anyone who likes beets. Tried their Potato Gnocchi and Crispy Confit Duck Leg. They were both tasty. Gnocchi had nice firm texture, and the roasted lettuce went well with the duck leg. The reason I am giving them 4 is because I was a bit disappointed by the dessert - Polenta Fritters. It sounded more interesting than what it tasted like. I would not order it again or recommend it to anyone.
Amazing food and felt very safe at their outdoor heated tables!
I love eating here. The staff is friendly and the food is always amazing. The menu is updated often but you will always find great salads, bread, meats, charcuterie and pasta. Reservations are recommended but the bar is for walk ins.
This was our first stop in our visit to Seattle and it was amazing! The food was just exquisite! The service was top notch. It was so nice to start off our trip on such a wonderful note!!! Thank you to all!
Sorry, but not impressed by the food and highly overpriced. Great service though!
Fantastic food. It's a little pricey but well worth it. Great place to celebrate with loved ones.
Awesome food, nice ambience, attentive staff, small and large plates. Pastas are nice, short ribs are good, desserts are to die far. Bartender makes fun cocktails. Recommend!
The food was delicious in your typical Ethan Stowell fashion. Plates are smaller and meant to be shared at your table. Menu changes often enough to keep things interesting. Plates are always based on something you’re familiar with, with some sort of very different spin. Pastas are fresh and al dente and meats are cooked perfectly. I’d recommend if you’re looking for a high quality dining experience.
Everything on the menu was great here! Definitely get the carpaccio. All of the pasta was great. The veggies are also all very good. I had beer, but the cocktails all looked well made.
Wonderful experience!!! Delicious food, great atmosphere, great drinks! Not necessarily the typical Italian food I think of, but so fun to try new things! I highly recommend.
Terriffic fun and delicious food combinations. Highly recommend this quirky joint. Everything we had was fantastic. Highly recommend hitting this place if you can. The small plates and variety of unexpected combo of ingredients! Yummy
Amazing little restaurant. The food was impeccable. The uni pasta was rich and decadent. Portions were very reasonably sized. Front of house staff was very attentive.
Great food, as usual. Love the outdoor table set-up... we’re not comfortable eating inside during COVID so I’m glad they have partitions between tables outside.
The small and intimate setting, combined with a menu full of adventurous and delicious flavor combinations basically makes How To Cook A Wolf a "reservation only" restaurant. But man, it's worth the planning. And the staff are equally excellent.
More essential than visiting the space needle. The chef came out to help us make decisions (as out-of-towners), and it was a culinary carousel. The burrata with pickled strawberries, the oysters, the clams with corn and guanciale, the pasta...
The staff works together in a warm and intimate environment. Everyone is in a great mood, obviously loving what they do. I regret not visiting again before leaving Seattle.
Their gnocchi is outstanding. The menu is seasonal so repeat visits are rewarded with new surprises. Nice atmosphere, not too formal yet it has a nice upscale feel.
Really good food. Service was very good, if a little rushed. It is a small place and the food comes out quickly. Some fun and interesting cocktails on the menu as well.
Yum! I always love the vegetarian dishes that How to Cook a Wolf dreams up. Great combinations of sour, sweet, spicy, salty. (Sometimes a hair too salty.) Also, we love the Sea Wolf levain with roasted garlic and fennel butter. Order it every time.
Wolves are delicious, and nobody prepares them quite like How To Cook A Wolf. If you're looking for fresh wolf along with a great selection of seasonal small plates and delicious cocktails then you've come to the right place. The wolves are slaughtered right out back, and you can eat to the pleasant sounds of them howling and screaming on the other side of the wall. The dimly lit setting is perfect for setting the mood on a date night out.
Excellent! We had the duck, taglliatte pasta, Pana Cota and a bottle of wine. Best duck I've ever had. The pasta was well seasoned!
Really nice ambiance, great food. We had a reservation but we were seated about 25 minutes after our time. However, we were given some bubbly and a dish from the chef for the inconvenience. That always makes things better!
Sea wolf sourdough was one of the greatest things to bless my palet. The rest of the food wasn't as impressive, but still good.
Focus on small plates that are very well executed - love the lamb tartare! Top notch, adventurous wine list with a wide price range - something for everyone.
Every time I eat here I am completely happy. One of the best restaurants in Seattle in my opinion
Very refreshing.
Delicious, You can really taste the food essence. I loved the homache, (sp?), and the beets salad was luscious. Great decor and service too.
The food was ok but nothing special. Certainly not justifying the price. Next day we had more tender pork in local canteen. Cocktails were good a d creative.
Excellent food, customer services, great location.
How to Cook a Wolf is possibly my all-time favorite restaurant. I don’t live in Seattle (or the US) any more but often dream of the carpaccio, gnocchi, burrata, and all of the amazing impromptu cocktails that they would create based off of whatever we were craving at that moment. HtCaW will always be a place I go to whenever I come back to visit.
Best place in Seattle to eat, food is incredible and the staff is amazing.
Amazing staff, amazing food! First time there was a night to remember, so we’ll definitely be coming back!
I liken this to SPQR in SF. The place is ideal for groups of 4 or 2. The food was delicious and fresh. 1) the scallops crudo was one of my favorites - the roe added just enough natural salt balance to the dish, 2) soft egg with Dungeness crab adds a little heat but the creamy sauce gives a butter like richness to the crab meat, 3) the grilled octopus was cooked well but could have been more flavorful, 4) tagliatelle was great and the pasta was so fresh and rich. I might have found my go to tapa place in Seattle.
We've been to this place many times over the past 5 years and we have to be disappointed. The food is not only excellent but also creative, but service os also both professional and personal. Our happy place.
Absolutely amazing meal. Easily one of the best 3 meals I've had in Seattle.
If you hear Italian and think Magianos or Olive Garden you're 100% wrong.
Phenomenal pasta options. We got a bunch and shared at the table and it was all delicious. Definitely worth getting a table for a small group.
Food and cocktails were amazing! Atmosphere was loud and cramped. It was hard to hear the conversation at the table. But the food was incredible!
Excellent food, great service, charming neighborhood vibe. I will definitely be back
Incredible pasta, meats and veggies. Craft cocktails, great staff, small intimate ambiance. Get a reservation at least a week ahead of time.
I really like this place. It has a good vibe to it and the food it great. Some interesting salads options too. I've never had a bad meal here.
Absolutely incredible food, service and environment. Its an absolute thrill going back here every time and the menu never disappoints. Ethan Stowell has an absolute gem here in Queen Anne.
Good service, good food and reasonable prices. Really glad that we finally got to try this place. Will come back.
Great, simple, but expertly executed food at decent prices and generous portion sizes. Great service and good ambiance. Small reservation so make a reservation or expect to wait.
I had some of the best food I've ever eaten here. Each time I come, I find new options and opportunities to try somethibgs I've never eaten before! If I could, I'd rate How to Cook a wolf 6/5!
The food is amazing! The wine list has something for everyone! The staff is friendly and attentive, but not overbearing.
Food was beyond delicious. Perfectly prepared and plated. Service was excellent. One of my favorite restaurants of all time.
The food, ambiance, and service was amazing. The outdoor seating area is cute.
Beautiful backstory - it's Ethan Stowell but without breaking the bank! Excelled at preserves and sauces. I would only research the demi-glace technique used for the braised ribs, because it'd be interesting to know what they put in the broth :)
Never disappoints. Was looking forward to the chef's menu which wasn't available this round. Still delicious.
Great spot and great food. Everything we had was tasty and the staff was very friendly.
I loved it because they happily made me an amazing vegan pasta dish with mushrooms. One of the best I've ever had.
Oh my God this place was absolutely amazing the food was phenomenal and I don't know how they got the taste just perfect but they did in everything I would highly recommend this place I know that the reason I found this place was because of canlis which is one of the top restaurants in Washington... It is very small but again food is beyond amazing
$35 for half (HALF!!) a Cornish hen felt like a rip-off... Rest of the food was alright, though.
Best upscale restaurant in Queen Anne area. Menu is a rotating selection of seasonal small plates and pastas, great for sharing or not!
First time being here and I absolutely loved it. Such a unique vibe, friendly atmosphere and excellent food and staff. Will definitely come here again. Can't recommend enough
Went here for a friend’s birthday. The food was all delicious and unique. Definitely a fun foodie experience in Seattle.

Celebrating our birthdays and 9 plus years since our 1st date and another amazing experience. The attention to detail and food is amazing.
From my 4 day Seattle foodie trip, this was the most delicious at a very reasonable price meal. Just wish this place was brighter to allow for some foodie pix.

Amazing and unique food with outstanding wait staff attention. Don't miss desserts.
Not wild about no reservations type places for a fancier meal, but I've had two great meals here.
The only thing better than the food here was the customer service. I'm no foodie but I'll be making the trip here again soon!
All the pastas are delicious, with good small plates to compliment. Not cheap, but honestly a value for the quality.
The food was good, but was basically identical to Tavolata and Ethan stowells other restaurants.
My favorite Ethan Stowell restaurant by far! Only place that I have ever been that uses apple butter which is my FAVORITE!
Pasta could have been cooked a tad more. The beet salad and dessert were excellent.
