First time visit. Two of us love fried oysters and each ordered the basket of 12 for a large lunch/dinner. The counter service was friendly and fun. We live 15 minutes away and the meal held up well on the drive home. The oyster breading was fantastic - excellent texture, color and smell - and the large oysters were perfectly soft. I love dipping the oysters in the special tartar sauce! So good! But they were also good on their own. The unique coleslaw was so so delicious, next time I will order another serving of slaw. Finally, the hand cut French fries were the perfect accompaniment. We had leftovers and they reheated very well in the air fryer later in the day. I will order a smaller portion next time and save room for dessert. I knew I wanted to come back to this place even before I left! The price is right - completely worth it because of the obvious love and care put into selecting ingredients and preparing the food. Love the smiles of everyone working.

Visiting from out of state, saw some good reviews. Decided to give it a shot. Did not disappoint! Prices were great, cod and prawns were delicious. Drumetts were on point! Crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. Sampled the salmon chowder and wish i had space for it. If your in town make it a point to stop by.

Simple fish and chips with a little twist on the tar tar sauce. $15 for a 5 piece cod is definitely a steal. The fish was lightly fried and seasoned perfectly. The meat was flaky and complemented well with the tar tar sauce. The chowder here is also rich and packed with flavor. One of the better fish and chip places in Seattle!

I had the opportunity to visit 9/11/22 and enjoyed the halibut and chips which were in fact the best fish and chips I can even remember having. The breading on the fish is phenomenal and the fries match it in deliciousness with the perfect balance of seasoning. Their staff is also so friendly and offered us the most exceptional service. I'm definitely looking forward to revisiting to try out some of their other options! 10/10.

Best fried fish joint in Seattle!! Staff are so friendly and makes you feel like a family member! They offered for us to try their chowder and gumbo!! Out of this world good!! If you ever visit the Seattle area or live here you have to eat here!! I wish there was more tables and chairs but I would still go back!! 👍

Pretty good! I got the Gumbo and crab puppies! The gumbo is so good and the crab puppies were really good. A bit salty all together but more flavor is better than none which seems to be a trend in this city. I wish the sold CORNBREAD! That would be so good with the gumbo! Please add cornbread! Haha

Went very out of my way to go here. Seemingly the only place in PNW that sells (or at least openly advertises) breaded/deep fried salmon. I had some at Anchorage international airport that were just incredible... Not so much at Emerald City. Breading was tasteless, seemingly didn't even have salt, pepper, or any other baseline spices in the batter. Coating was very thin, zero crunch, not flaky. Fish was dry when bit into. Didn't taste bad--mostly tasteless. Had a nice color on the inside, no bones. Shrimp hush puppies were burnt, tasted burnt. Seemed like you could taste the fryer oil, old and burnt. Fries were the best part. Fountain soda was obviously lacking the syrup in the mixture, tasted like seltzer water, waste of money. Nowhere to sit. Think there were one or two tiny tables out front not covered (was pouring rain, as it does every day in Seattle). Food came out fast. Hardly any parking. If I was in the area I might try some of the other kinds of fish (they had several different fish and chips options), but I'm definitely not going out of my way to be here again.

This place is unreal. Cajun style breading, meaning it’s gluten free. I’ve been multiple times and had a number of different menu items, all of which are phenomenal. The owner is there every day hard at work and is a tremendous down to earth guy. He gave me a free sample of the chowder and, after tasting, I couldn’t help but place a full order! Price is also reasonable, even in a city like Seattle. Give this place a try.

This was on my go to list. We got shrimp po boy sandwich, crab hush puppies and cat fish. The crab cake was phenomenal omg. The shrimp and tartar sauce in the bun was amazing. Cat fish was so flaky and fresh. 10/10 spot

10/10!! If you’re celiac, like my wife, this is the perfect place for you … one of the very few places to get GREAT gluten-free fish and chips! But listen, if you’re NOT celiac, like me, this is STILL the perfect place for fantastic fish and chips!! Every time we come to Seattle, we HAVE to come to this place!! We live in Vancouver, BC and according to our tastes and preferences, Emerald City is HANDS DOWN the ABSOLUTE BEST fish and chips we’ve ever had!! And we’ve been to many more high end restaurants. The batter is outstanding. Not heavily battered at all … very thin cornmeal crust but still crisp, and not at all greasy … just the way we like it. We LOVE the Halibut and it’s a GREAT deal. Today we added the Seafood Special and some Gumbo. We went a little crazy, but hey, we only get to Seattle so often to enjoy our FAVOURITE fish and chip spot in the WORLD!! Kudos to the amazing owner and staff! They’re amazing! We can’t wait to come back!!

Good fish and chips at a fair price. I have been to plenty of fish and chip shops in Seattle and I will say the prices here are lower than average for a decent amount of food. I ordered the five piece cod and the food came out fresh and quick. Both the fries and fish were tasty. I recommend trying this spot out.

Two wonderful fellas working on Friday 11/11/22- got us fresh hot catfish and chips, side order of sweet potato fries, and a cup of chowder. Tasty and crisp, plus these two working were absolutely lovely! They let us bring in our bikes, very friendly, and it was an altogether wonderful experience. We will be back and support this shop again!

This place definitely warrants a visit. I ordered the cod and prawns special along with a 6-piece crab puppies. The cod was nicely prepared and fried to perfection. The shrimps, however, were halfed lengthwise and a little dry. The crab hush puppies were prepared in flat style, just like a crab cake. They were delicious morsels that went very well with the sauce provided. The fries and slaw were well seasoned and prepared home style. Overall, a great place for a quick bite as service was friendly and fast in addition to the yummy meals.

Easily the best meal I've had in Seattle. It's a small place, but it's comfortable and serves up big flavor from some of the friendliest staff. The chowder is a must-get; it's a hug in a bowl where I was torn between eating it slowly so it would last vs. eating it fast because it was that damn good. The batter on the salmon was light and didn't get in the way of the fish's flavor. The chips were lightly crispy and oh so fluffy, and combined with their spicy tartar sauce was absolutely divine. I don't personally like coleslaw (there's two places I've had it where I liked it), but I'll make an exception for Emerald City's every time– this place is absolutely worth the trip. I'll be in again next time I'm in the neighborhood.

These are not your British style heavy batter fish and chips. Pretty thin layer of batter. We got the Cod, and it was delicious. I also got the Salmon following the advice of the cook, and that was a bit too fishy tasting for me. Wouldn’t get them again. They have an interesting spicy tartar-sauce-wannabe thingy, it wasn’t bad but pretty spicy for my tastebuds. Overall I like this place. Next, I will try the Poboy. Oh, the guy working there was awesome. He even opened the door for me seeing my hands were full. Honest hard working people.

Omg. Delicious food. I love the shrimp. I personally don't like the cold slaw. Food is made to order so it comes fresh and piping hot. I haven't tried everything but it's definitely worth a trip there if you want some good fish. Seasoned well cooked all the way . Friendly customer service. I really like them.

Really good fish and chips seem harder to find. Emerald City fish and chips will not let you down. The fish is fresh and delicious. And the fish fry breading is gluten free! Their tarter is house made and has a zip missing in mass produced kinds. They also have a remoulade my husband loves with his fish and shrimp. The Cole slaw is out of this world and I recommend ordering a large size. The small side is never enough. The salmon chowder is also delicious and perfect on fall days to help warm you up.

When my friend said this was the best fish and chips in Seattle, he wasn't joking. The food was beyond fantastic, the service super sayan spectacularly stellar. The staff were awesome and treated us like family. We had some good conversations and laughs. You can tell they put love and pride into their food and business. It's such a beautiful thing. We came here because my boyfriend had been craving fish and chips and boy are we lucky! This place is great! I'm not even a big fish and chips person myself but even I enjoyed it a lot! I would highly recommend, they've been around a long time and locals are lucky to have the company of this wonderful staff and restaurant!

Some of the best Fish and Chips I’ve ever had, period. Expect a decent lunch crowd if you arrive here around noon. The space inside is small, but there are two picnic tables outside if you’d like to eat there on a nice day. The dining area inside is a little cramped and presumably not used during Covid19 times. They have a lunch punch card for buy 8, get 9th free! I got the Cod and Prawn special, which is two pieces of Cod and 3 Prawns with chips for $10.95. It’s a great deal, and even greater taste. The Cod is juicy and flavorful and the Remoulade is delicious. A South Seattle institution worth visiting. Oh, and the staff are all super polite and friendly.

I love this place. The service was fast and friendly, the food was all delicious. The chicken and chips were even amazing; they cut a chunk of chicken breast, breaded it and fried it. The gumbo had so much flavor. The buttermilk pie was perfect. Both the cod and the halibut were wonderfully well done. 10/10 would recommend.

Friendly staff. Had a sample of their Salmon Chowder and it was surprisingly good. The crab hush puppies are unique, and not bread heavy. We were expecting the traditional British style fish and chips but it is more like southern/Cajun style fried seafood. The Alaskan cod had good flavors and would recommend that to try.

Wow. Honestly didn't expect much but this tartar sauce and the PERFECTLY fried fish is just too good to not leave a stellar review! The crab puppies were also so delicious. To top it all off it all comes at a reasonable price!

I wanted to rate this place higher because of all the great things people have said. I ordered the halibut and chips, chowder, and crab puppies. The halibut was kind of dry and not very flavorful, the chowder was also kind of bland, but the crab puppies were good. I think the fries were the best part. It's also a bit expensive with the total bill at $25. The place is tiny with half a dozen stools and one small 2 person table. There was a steady crowd of people ordering takeout.

WOW! Absolutely the BEST service and delicious, fresh seafood very reasonably priced! WOW! I'm usually NOT a fried fish person (prefer grilled, baked, sauteed), but this is so FRESH and lite, the best fried coating! Definitely worth eating! Everything is made to order! Small, cozy place with limited seating and a couple picnic tables outside. Take-Out is a good option, but I enjoyed sitting at the outdoor picnic table! Steve, owner is so wonderful, as is Ken, one of the staff here, incredibly friendly. Guest satisfaction, great food, and welcoming you in like family! Loved, Loved, Loved ❤ Highly recommend!! I'd give 10 STARS if it was an option!

Excellent fish and chips! But really, so much more! We had the cod, salmon and snapper... which were all solid. I prefer my salmon a little less dry but my son loved it. However, hands down, fried oysters were my favorite! Juicy on the inside and light coating on the outside! Thanks to Andrew and Steven from "Worth It" on YouTube, which my son is a huge fan. We traveled from Detroit, MI to Seattle and had to stop by! Will definitely come back!

Solid fish and chips place. Batter was nice and thin. Both halibut and salmon were good. Although I'd like my salmon to be more moist. Tartar sauce and slaw were both good. Salmon chowder was great as well. The shrimp po boy my friend got looked good too. I will come back again, for sure.

Whoever was cooking on the fryers last night is outstanding. The Alaskan cod I had came out fresh, crispy and glistening. The temp. Was perfect! The tartar sauce it came with was great as well. I saw this place on a food show and have been dying to try it. First off it is out of the way from the downtown Seattle area so you need a car to get here. The food was tasty and not too oily. I was sad that the day we went was not Gumbo soup but their chili was still yummy. The salmon was not dry, but instead very moist inside. There aren't that many tables in the restaurant, but there is a counter that you can sit at.

Saw this place on Buzzfeed and was really happy that we could make it. The food was awesome! The smoked salmon chowder was really nice and well cooked. The fried salmon was jammin’, and so were the fries. Tartar sauce went well with the meal. Great food, all fresh, great price, little wait. There is limited seating though so don’t come with a family of 25.

Great food. Not many good fish and chip places around that you don't feel like throwing up the grease after but this place was great. Loved the cat fish two piece work sweet potato fries. My friend had the burger and loved it. Kind of a loud corner but it's a nice spot.

Visiting greater Seattle and itching for chowder, but wasn't willing to go to Pikes for the best. Chose Emerald City and it was a fantastic choice. They have a smoked salmon chowder that was flavorful and creamy. Fried cod was great and the tartar sauce had a little kick, which was a surprise, but the good kind. All of that is worth 5 stars and a return visit next time we're in Seattle. On a side note, a homeless man came by and asked us and another customer for money. The gentlemen at the counter, possibly the owner, came out and let him know that he shouldn't be asking us for money and if the man wanted food, he could ask the business and they were happy to provide it. Such a great response and way to handle it! Kudos to you! If I could give you 6 stars, I would! Until next time.

Delicious food!!!! Went to Seattle for the weekend and stoped at this place for some fish and chips after finding out the batter is gluten free and made with corn flour! I got the salmon fish and chips and it was so good! Ended up returning the next day for round 2! The in house tartar sauce was amazing and the staff are very friendly! Definitely would recommend!!

ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL! The food was prepared quick, it was fried but not overly greasy or oily- so the flavor of the Salmon pieces really came out. The fries were crispy and warm. Will absolutely be going to this place again when I’m back in Seattle

Found this place using Google Maps. Searched on Fish and Chips and this was one of the hits and was along our route. I am so glad that is was, because now I am go out of my way to come here again. I had the Halibut and Chips and my partner had the Alaska Cod and Chips and the were both excellent. The batter is not light, it has some substance to it, but it is also not heavy or greasy. It has a nice crust on it but is not exactly crispy, and it is nicely seasoned. The chips too are excellent, some of the best "French fries" free ever had. I highly recommend this spot. I'm looking chard to coming back to try some of their Po' Boys.

Found out about this gem through buzzfeed and was very happy with the cod and salmon fish and chips. The fried are crisped perfectly with a nice Cajun seasoning. Shared 10 pieces of fish with a friend and it was more than enough. Definitely recommend a visit.

Came here because of Worth It from Buzzfeed. I was not disappointed at all. It was actually 5000x better than I even thought it could be. The salmon was fried to perfection, the signature tartar sauce is out of this world. Crab puppies were exactly what you want to celebrate a good day or wallow in a bad day. Got there 2 minutes before they opened and glad I did as when I was leaving there was a line out the door at 11:30am.

TL;DR -great fish -even better chowder Food was great! A nice southern touch on fish and chips. Their batter is a bread batter that's nice and crispy, keeping the fish nice and juicy. I personally don't enjoy chowder that much, but heard good things about the smoked salmon chowder, which turned out to be my favorite item!

Absolutely amazing, I had the sampler platter to try everything they had. First off, the halibut was the most juciest flavorful halibut I've ever had. I didn't know what to expect but Holy cow it was amazing! This is a definite necessity to order. Secondly, the seasoning on the fries were phenomenal, a really great blend of spices. Thirdly and lastly, the tarter sauce was the best tarter sauce I've ever had. It has a Cajun style twist to it that meshes so well with everything else perfectly. Everything was great, the one thing that I can agree on with other reviews is that the crab cakes are a bit light on the crab. Overall 5 star, will 100 percent be back for the halibut, it makes the best fish and chips I've ever had.

You'll have to look at other reviewers photos because we dug in so fast we forgot to take pics. It was all delicious. We got the cod and prawn special, the chowder and the crab puppies. Everything was perfectly prepared and flavorful. The chowder was like if Maine and New Orleans made a delicious baby. Creamy, cajun-y perfection. This place is definitely worth the trip.

This is THE spot for the best fried seafood in Seattle they got great variety everything is seasoned to perfection (even the fries and sauces) the gumbo and chowder is straight up addictive no lie and make sure you get a sweet potato pie they go quick for a reason this is a MUST if your visiting the city I can't say enough good things about this place

My mom and I drove up from Dayton WA and found this place! 10/10 recommend! Such an amazing variety of delicious food! We tried the sample platter with catfish, salmon, clam strips, hush puppies, and some other things. Even the halibut was delicious. While we waited a sweet man brought us a sample of homemade gumbo! My mom and I have been craving it ever sense! We joke about bringing a bunch hime to freeze! Even the little salad you get is delicious. The 2 men that were there were just the sweetest ever! Wonderful experience and will definitely be going again! Recommend to everyone!😊

As a Seattle native I enjoy great fish and chips. I can't consider this great, decent? absolutel! I've had the 2 piece cod, seafood gumbo, and clam chowder. Now let me say this. The clam chowder has no chunks of clam that make it clam chowder worthy, I mean Campbells makes a better chowder. The seafood gumbo is just a chicken soup with rice, I mean there's one small shrimp in there that you may get, but it's mainly chicken. Should be a chicken gumbo. The fries are more seasoned than the cod. At least the fish isn't dry and the sauce makes up for the under seasoned fish. I would give it 2 stars but the staff is very friendly and chill. So let me start of by saying I don't normally go for seafood much. This place was on my list of places I wanted to go ever since the BuzzFeed series "Worth It" did their salmon episode in Seattle and Emerald City Fish and Chips was the winner. Fast forward a few years and when I finally went, I was VERY impressed with the salmon and chips. It was tender, flaky, juicy, and flavorful, and the spicy tartar sauce was awesome on both the salmon AND the fries. The fries were tender inside and crisp outside, wonderfully seasoned without being over seasoned, and came out delightfully fresh. The price was very reasonable, and the staff was very friendly. If you're in the area at all, this place is worth going a bit out of your way to visit, and I can't emphasize just how good this was.

First of all, I just want to shout out to Chris. I walked in and told I'm from out of town and he immediately starting explaining the menu and recommending things for first timers like myself. He also came around to make sure everything was good as I ate and brought me a glass of water that I forgot to offer. I ended up ordering salmon and chips, clam strips, and crab puppies. This food was SO GOOD! The seasoning was so perfect that I didn't even need the included sauces but I chose to indulge intermittently anyway! We were hoping for a local place to try out some fish and Emerald City did not disappoint! It was a chilly rainy night when we stopped in. We were going through the menu when we were offered a sample of the Salmon Chowder, (which we ended up ordering!) Service was so friendly and prompt. We absolutely devoured everything. My first time eating here and I was not disappointed. The food is delicious and the staff are kind and accommodating. There are tables outside (due to covid precautions). We had the Alaskan Cod and chips and oyster and chips and clam chowder. The fish was moist and the batter had great flavor with just a little heat. My brother said the fried oyster with batter was good too. The tarter is even a little better than Ivar's. The chowder was thick and hearty with good flavor. The coleslaw was above average, a little sweet and just a pinch of heat. There are many places for fresh fish and chips in Seattle, so the competition is high. We really enjoyed all of our food. I can't think of a better place to get the biggest bang for your buck.

A lot of people in my neighborhood chat have suggested this place for some great fish and chips, I finally got off my lazy butt and tried it recently. I ordered online, which doesn't seem to be a way to order ahead. When I got there to pick it up (15 minutes after ordering), they hadn't started on my order yet, and didn't start it until I signed the receipt. I don't know if they just forgot about it or it's some sort of policy, but it's something to keep in mind if you want to order online. We got the halibut and chips and the shrimp and chips. The halibut was okay and we liked the seasoning they use on/in their breading. The sauces are also really great. The shrimp was a big disappointment. It was super rubbery and had no crunch from the breading. It was just way over done and sad. The people behind the counter were friendly, and I'll probably try this place again in the future because it could have just been an off day, but what we had didn't really match the hype.

My daughter and I had an early flight to Seattle from Phoenix. We had to pick up our rental car and we were starving. We stopped at Emerald City Fish and Chips and were completely blown away by how fresh and good the food was, as well as the wonderful service. I ordered the fried halibut and chips. My favorite thing about this place has to be the fries. So good! Had cajun seasoning on them and werent soggy. The fried catfish was also good. It was juicy and perfectly fried and crispy breading. The crab hush puppies were meh but worth trying at least once. Also the prices were unbeatable. I do suggest to get more than the 2 pieces the meals come with because they are small.

Fantastic food at a good price! Let me start by saying the place was incredibly clean. Everything was very organized, and nothing was sticky or gross. My expectations have been exceeded. The coleslaw has a bit of spice to it, as does the pinkish tartar, or maybe that was the remoulade? I dunno, it was in the bag and it was tasty! Heads up, I got the five-piece and it was A LOT, I didn’t weigh it, but if I’m guessing it was ~1lb of fish possibly more, I’ll order the more reasonably sized three piece on my next visit. But if you’ve got a big appetite, you know what to do.

This is THE place for fish & chips in Seattle. The first visit, we got 3 piece fish & chips, which would be perfect for a smaller meal. It was a satisfying amount, but the fish was so good we got the 5 piece meal the next time. If you’re worried about the takeout, I’m always impressed by how crisp the fish is even 20 minutes later when we get home. COVID: It’s a small shop, so it’s easy enough to wait outside until it’s your turn and still get a glimpse of the menu. The people were friendly and masked up!

Reasonable portions, fresh oil, clean establishment. Parking can be tricky. The only thing I wish they could do is sell a single piece of fish. I really wanted to try the fish, but didn't need 2 full meals.

These guys are the Colonel Sanders of fish & chips. Awesome Cajun spin on classic seafood fare. Amazing seasoned fries that have a consistently crispy-on-the-outside, fluffy-on-the-inside texture go perfectly with the spiced breading on the tender, juicy fish filets. Great chowder, great gumbo, great po’ boy sandwiches. You can’t go wrong with the food, but what really set these guys apart for me is their friendly demeanor and great service. We sat outside due to quarantine rules and rather than call out our number for us to come and grab it in to-go bags, they came out and served us with a tray and baskets, even going so far as to come out with free cups of water. The place was dead at the time, so I suspect that was a factor, but the way they chatted us up didn’t feel like a front. Definitely make an effort to eat here.

I saw this in the Buzzfeed Worth It episode and decided to go here while visiting Seattle. I was blown away when I went here. For the first part, the service in here is excellent. The manager is very welcoming and accepting, and is quick on the go with the food. It took him five minutes to make a bowl of clam chowder, tartar sauce, and fish n' chips! The food, on the other hand, is great. The fish' n chips were crispy on the outside, yet were so well done on the inside. The flavorful crust was a great addition to the soft salmon. The chowder was probably the best thing I had at the place. It was so creamy and rich, and the flavor was so plentiful. The homemade tartar sauce was awesome. It was a great accompaniment with the fish. 10/10 would recommend this place.

We have been regulars at Emerald City Fish and chips for years. I keep saying I'm gonna order something besides the Oyster Po Boy, but I love it so much, I just get it every time. My family also enjoys the cod, catfish, halibut and shrimp. We enjoy the owner's friendliness and attention to detail when it comes to our food. It's always freshly made and perfectly cooked. I was slightly disappointed that the day we went they weren't serving the smoked salmon chowder. FYI on Mondays and Tuesdays it is the seafood gumbo. But it was delicious as well. Wish there was more seating both indoors and out but excellent service, quality and food can be found here.

This place has very good gluten free fish and chips. I was impressed. The fish and fries were not overly oil covered and had a good flavor. The shop it self is small with one two person table and a bar hight table going along the window that has stools placed along it. They also do to go orders. Overall a great experience.

The crab puppies were a perfect blend of crab cakes and hush puppies, the fry on the cod was beautiful, the po boy was the best I've had in years and the sweet tea was so freshly brewed it was still warm. I will say seating is limited and mostly outside, so keep that in mind if you're planning to eat there.

The fish itself doesn't have much seasoning. It would be great to get cajun seasoning added after its fried so there's something on it. The tartar is a must. The prawns are actual prawns butterflied open and fried. Mine weren't too clean the last time we went, but other times have been just fine. Their chowder is pretty good too. The prices can be high but that seems to be most fish places these days.

Drove up from the Tumwater area (about 50 miles) just to try their seafood. I am so glad that we did! I miss the old fashioned "fish fry shacks" that you can find all over the South and even in parts of Southern California, so this was like finding hidden treasure! This is a no nonsense, straight up, throwback to those old style shacks but in a modern, very clean, PNW look. There are two picnic style tables and benches out front with umbrellas. Inside, there's a lean to/ countertop where maybe four people could sit and enjoy their meals (pre Covid-19 of course). The menu which is written on a giant chalkboard is above the service counter and across from the entrance and is one of the first things you see upon entering. Well, that and the smiling faces of those behind the counter as they greet you upon entering. My wife had the shrimp po' boy, my son had fried chicken strips and fries, and I got a 3 piece cod and chips and a 5 piece halibut and chips to share all around and DAMN! Perfectly cooked with great seasoning and corn meal coating. While my wife wasn't too happy with her po'boy because of a hint of horseradish in it, she kept eating until it was half gone! My 8 year old son loved the chicken strips and proclaimed them the "best he's ever had". Oh yeah! Their tartar sauce is absolutely amazing. Finally! I've found a place that actually has it's own distinctive FLAVOR that stands out but doesn't offend. Well done! And we will be going back again soon!

But the salmon chowder was freaking awesome. I sat outside on the picnic table great view of all the traffic going up and down Rainier Avenue and 80 and 90 miles an hour. They're salmon chowder was better than Ivar's fish and chips. I'll be back.

The staff here are very friendly. The fish and chips are excellent. Hamburgers are great. The french fries are wonderful. The tartar sauce is yummy. I highly recommend Emerald City Fish and Chips. We very much enjoyed our visit to this small restaurant in an unassuming part of East Seattle. The only thing better than the super friendly staff was the Smoked Salmon Chowder! The owner gave us a sample and we were hooked; we ordered a bowl and loved it! This is the only place I've ever seen smoked salmon chowder. The other food we ordered was tasty and authentic. Only downside was they were out of the pie made by the owner's mother. We don't live in Seattle, but the next time we're in town, we're definitely heading back to Emerald City!

The tartar sauce was unique- spicy and thin, but delicious. Even the coleslaw was great I think there was jalapeno in it. Not too much. There was no air conditioning when I went which was only ok because the food made me forget about it so I still give 5 stars.

Amazing food. I was not expecting the fish n chips to be soo 5-star! The light crispness. I had the salmon fish n chips, which I've never seen anyone do before. Customer service was great. I was greeted as soon as I walked in from the owner. The younger gentlemen on the fry area was very pleasant while wrapping up my order. Great hospitality. Returning to Emerald City FC after a 2 year hiatus. It's always been a pleasure to have their majestic fish n chips, prepared in their magical seasoning. The family had salmon and cod fish n chips, and 3 bowls of their heavenly chowder! It's soooooooo ono (Hawaiian for yummy). A word of caution, please wear your masks! Staff members would like for you to observe social distancing and most importantly, the "6 foot yellow line" that's in front of the front counter... stay behind it! Buttermilk pie!! Order it so it never goes off the menu. Please! You will not be disappointed. Think halfway between flan and pumpkin pie but my wife doesn’t like either of those and loves this. Oh and the fried food is hot, freshly prepared for your order and delicious. And the place is clean and smells good. And your food is so hot and crispy I would just eat in if there is space. We got in the car and had to have a bite and basically just decided to eat most of it right there. Just don’t fryer-steam burn your mouth.

I’ve lived all over the country and on every of my favorite things to get everywhere I go is Fish and Chips! These were the absolute best out of anywhere. The Cajun twist was amazing. The salmon was the only fish I got and I would recommend it. I am definitely going back for another type of fish later but those were the best fish and chips I have ever had. Also: That tartar sauce is pretty much the best tartar sauce I’ve had ever... which I love sauces and it hits top 3 overall ever. Plus them not charging extra for a second or third cup of it goes a long way in my book because they could have charged me 5 dollars for more and I would have paid. But I LOVE WHEN THEY DONT. It means that they want to make this the best experience for you and trying to gauge your sauce intake, takes away from the experience. Smoked salmon chowder — 4.5 stars! I loved it but I think I like clam chowder more. They could also maybe add a bit more salmon into it. I’ll be back at least 10 times this year.

By no doubt one of the best places to get fish in Seattle but, will definitely have to find an alternative! The food is always good but, the customer service is mostly nonexistent or horrible like it was this afternoon 01/16/2021. Though the fish is always 5* the lady and gentleman that worked this afternoon are the WORST I've ever dealt with in the food industry. Several opportunities were given for them to improve but they consistently fell short. I place an order ( Order 31 ) by phone which was definitely mixed up and called the ladies attention to it and told her that she doesn't need to take it back just a FYI, her response was her screaming at me that the order was correct, I smiled and told her that "I" placed the order and the lady by me was a witness but she just yelled louder that the order was right... I took it, tipped 18% only for me to get the RUDEST shock ever when I requested for hot 4 hot sauce and I was handed 2, I repeated that I need 4 and the man said that's all he could give and walked me out.. that was an embarrassing moment and just didn't understand how 4 people should share 2 hot sauce with "Covid-19" The order was for 5pc catfish, 2 pc cod, and another 2pc catfish which was mixed up and a clamchowder. This TERRIBLE experience just made me realize that my $ can go to other businesses that need it when most times you call ahead and always have to still wait upwards of 15minutes when you get there. Never had a problem with the wait because atleast, the food is fresh and hot.

Me and a friend were in town from Alabama. We saw this restaurant on the show 'Worth It,' and we had to make it a point to try it. It did not disappoint. The fried salmon lived up to the hype, but the crab puppies were my favorite. So delicious. The cashier accidentally over-charged me for my meal, and before I even said anything about it to her, she kindly addressed the issue, and took care of it right away. Over-all a great experience.

These are some damned tasty fish and chips--I'll put it right up there with Little Chinooks and the Red Mill Totem house. I'd have to have them back to back to establish any sort of pecking order there, but Emerald City is absolutely in the discussion for the best in the city. The fish is prepared perfectly, light and flaky inside with a nice crispy outside. The batter is nicely seasoned--you get a nice little kick without overpowering the flavor of the fish--and the fries are at least good, if not exceptional. I haven't had the catfish, though I hear it's good, but the salmon and cod are both great. It's a great place for lunch, as they've got some good combos that will fill you up without weighing you down for reasonable prices. The parking lot and dining area inside aren't large, so if you want to go during peak hours you might have to park nearby and get it to go, but it's well worth it.

The crab puppies on the other had were perfect - definitely stop by for these. They have grilled salmon options, so you can get a bit healthier. I will try that next time I am up north. Quiet little place, friendly staff. It seemed that all the fish was gluten-free and is cooked in a corn based flour, with a bit of spice. My partner is gluten intolerant and had no issues with the fries, fish or tartar sauce. The wild salmon chowder is excellent, along with the wild salmon fish and chips! Very reasonably priced. (3 piece fish was around $14 and large chowder was $5) Walked in here on a rainy day, a quick pit stop during our road trip from Vancouver, BC. Enjoyed sitting at the high top bar by the window and watching the traffic flow by. If we ever pass through Seattle again it will certainly be a stop to try some more menu items next time!

Had the 5 piece salmon and chips, smoked salmon chowder, and pie. Salmon was good with the tarter sauce, but not great. Too dry and bland for me, but the tarter sauce saves it. Fries were great, seasoned well. Did not like the chowder. Tasted one dimensional and cheap, like smoke and fake butter. Pie was super sweet, took a bite and threw it away, nice flavor though. I'm a semi sweets person, so I think a sugar lover will love the pie.

A go to place for fast, good seafood options in South Seattle there they have great prices for what the service love the fact that this place does not sell any pork so no worries on contamination. Great chowder and customer service is always with a smile easy access, parking and convenient location for me it;s only 5 minutes or less from the house. I always recommend to my airbnb guests to check it. Love the weekly special like Gumbo and the chicken wings are crackin' (urban translation very good :) )

This has got to be the best fish/seafood on earth. The dark skin black man has a gift, like Saturday dinner with your momma cooking. The seasoning and freshness of the food is nectar of the Gods. There is another man, light skinned and ver nice, but the times I visited and he was the cook ( usually on the weekend), the fish was fishy the sauces tasted old and the seasoning is never the same.

The menu has all sorts of seafood such as cod, salmon, catfish, shrimp or prawns, oysters, and others. They also have chicken options. On top of that, you can also get these meats in sandwiches and po-boys.

The fried salmon in my opinion was better than the catfish. And the sweet potato fries are amazing. Also do yourself a favor and ask for double tartar sauce its made in house and it d.o.p.e.

Emerald City is a hidden gem! Everyone knows Seattle has great oysters...but who knew they had a great place to get a Oyster Po' Boy. We had a divine fried salmon sandwich. This is good old African American soul food fish shack, as good as any fish shack on the gulf coast. New Orleans might have to watch out! It's half way between Sea-Tac and Downtown, so stop by after you pick up your luggage, before you get to Pikes Place....Find this neighborhood gem in the Emerald city!

I had an oyster po' boy. It was fabulous. Stuffed with oysters on a roll with a great sauce. It came with a generous portion of killer fries and small cup of slaw, which was to my taste also. Quick friendly service too.
