Reviews of Cafe Lago
We booked a table here for my parent's anniversary and I really appreciated how easy it was to make a reservation online. The atmosphere in the restaurant is absolutely gorgeous and the service was attentive and very helpful in giving recommendations.
We got a bottle of wine and split a selection of pizzas and pastas which all blew us away. The highlight of the meal though was the ravioli which had amazingly thin dough that held together a beautifully flavorful filling. Everyone also really enjoyed the wood fire pizza which was crisped to perfection.
The area is street parking only but it's pretty easy to find a spot within a block of the restaurant.
Awesome Italian restaurant! Chinese broccoli and large bean appetizers were delicious to start, and our main dishes were perfectly cooked with flavorful sauces. Ravioli had fig in it (not a fan usually), and it went surprisingly well with other ingredients. Tried three cocktails; every single one was great. The restaurant was full on a Thursday night but the server was attentive and food came out in timely manner. We couldn’t find what we wanted for a dessert, but brioche was a okay choice to put a candle on (just a bit heavy😂) Overall, lovely place for any occasions and reservation is highly recommended.
Amazing Italian restaurant. We came here on our first evening visiting the city. Everyone agreed the food was super delicious; we finished everything. Let's talk about the service: seated immediately, constant refreshes of cold water, plates as well, everyone was really friendly too. Highly recommended.
Wow. I mean, WOW. Incredible food. Started off with the eggplant tapenade, had to get more crostini, because…umm 4–what is this, the Great Depression? That got us like 1/2 way done lol. I digress…jammy onions, fragrant eggplant, nice hard crunch crostini. Delicious.
But the linguini stole the show. Mandolined garlic, perfect amount of heat, springy & eggy noodles, with a coat-your-mouth white wine sauce that was begging for that charred-exterior bread to be dunked. And the clams? Oh man, steamed to perfection, I’ll bet using the sauce as the liquid. Also, bought a bottle of Pinot. Unnecessary, you could just get an entree and not ball out.
Other patrons all felt like the 4 o’clock dinner at Perkins crowd, if ya catch my drift (old white people). But, that could just be because I went on a Wednesday.
Have been going here, for YEARS now, even when we'd just visit WA. They now require reservations, even on a rando Tuesday nite. It was pretty full too. Their food and drinks are always sensational, but their service, isn't the same. Not as warm and inviting, as before. (I will just blame the C-word.) They even ran out of their complimentary house bread and a few other menu items ~ this speaks volumes about the popularity, of this place, along with how supply and demand are going, in the world. I'm just grateful that Cafe Lago is still around and that their food, hasn't changed! Grazie!
Came here with my parents and it’s such a quaint spot! A hidden gem truly. The waitress was awesome and we had about a 10-15 minute wait. No complaints! I wish I had more of the lasagna though!
Went to Cafe Lago on my birthday, what a treat! The lasagna is amazing and the pesto is simply delicious, the gnocchi melts in your mouth. I’ll come back as soon as I can.
Never disappoints, and we enjoy their traditional time honored entrees, and their new additions. Love starting with appetizers, salad, pizza, and a pasta dish. Save room for dessert. Nice wine options
Went here for my boyfriends birthday with a larger group and had excellent service! Everyone loved the food and drinks, especially the lasagne and fettuccine with meatballs. Always one of our favorites.
We just moved to the neighborhood, within walking distance and feel like there couldn’t be a better restaurant to be this close to! We went with friends and ordered family style. Everything was superb. The eggplant starter, lasagna and gnocchi were highlights. Can’t wait to make this our regular spot!
Great classic Italian cuisine, awesome thin pizzas, small but carefully-selected wine list. Lasagna! Carla's Biscotti!
One of our favorite little bars in the city. Casual with an upscale feel. Always recommend.
The food wasn't great for the price. Fig Ravioli was okay. The squash gnocchi was not inspired. It was quiet loud, so our group of 7 had trouble talking.
-Amazing olive oil served with the bread
-Lasagna is like none other. Super silky and unique
-ravioli is always delicious!
We had passed by many times this Italian place on a busy suburban road. This time we celebrated birthday with dinner. The place is neat and simple. Great staff, Black T-shirt’s with crisp super white aprons. Quick and attentive staff ( seemed like too many employees for a small restaurant)- but no complaints. The cocktail drinks- Negroni and Elderflower were excellent. Eggplant ravioli was 7/10 and the Neapolitan style pizza were 9/10. The house made huckleberry gelato and biscotti were really good. Coffee was really flavorful though only lukewarm. It’s a good place, good staff, with super white table linen. Even though the place deserves 5 star for everything right, it’s not a place that I would think of going again. Worth one visit at least.
Antipast/red pepper, eggplant, different types of olives, cheeses, everything is great. I personally don't care the goat cheese. Yes, easy to knock down a bottle of wine with this dish. Mamma's famous, original no meat recipe Lasagna is light and easy to finish.
Great atmosphere, friendly wait staff, amazing food. Can’t ask for anything else. I had the lasagna, best I’ve ever had without a doubt. For dessert we shared the flourless chocolate cake and roasted peaches, both were next level. Prices were reasonable and worth the visit.
the restraunt is very nice to look at. i had the pork chop and it was very tasty.
Great dinner. Nice Pinot Grigio, roasted radishes in a delicious mint sauce and a pizza 🍕- really excellent dry crust. Staff was super great. Left good tip.
An intimate old world experience. Highly recommend.
Splendid food! 🍝 But a long wait for the food so have a conversation ready! Casual enough to bring the kids, but fancy enough for date night.
Love café Lago - it's my boyfriend's and my favorite date night spot, we visit about once a month. We went recently with our families and had a great time. It's a very elegant and pretty atmosphere, good for conversation. The thyme orange butter / olive oil that comes with the house bread is really special, and the mains are solid. The seasonal Caprese salad was a stunner this time - burrata and heirloom tomatoes with basil sprouts. We'll be back many more times!
Perfect neighborhood Italian restaurant witb excellent wood fired pizza and hand-made pasta.
Absolutely delicious meal had. Excellent mezcal cocktail, amazing main, and super tasty apps. All around a wonderful culinary experience served up by friendly and knowledgeable staff. You can't ask for much more than that!! Many thanks Cafe Lago! You all were wonderful
Amazing thin crust pizza. Thin layer of sauce and high quality toppings. Definitely recommend this place!
Hidden treasure in Seattle, a neighbourhood place.,They have the best lasagna I’ve ever tasted, a real delicacy. A light texture simply extraordinary, layers of very thin pasta with cheese that holds the taste and binds the layers into one perfect simplicity. It is hard to order anything but!
Went to experience Monday's special $10 pizza.
I ordered the Salsicia. The Italian sausage was terrible; a greasy vehicle for way too much oregano such that oregano was all I could taste. The crust was undercooked so the slices were floppy.
The sauce had "no there there" and the mozzarella was practically non-existent....this pie was not worth $2.00!
WILL NEVER RETURN!!
One of my favorites in Seattle. They have super delicate lasagna and some of the best pizza around.
Cafe Lago is a Seattle institution. We have been going there for almost 15 years. They are known for their feather light lasagna. I had their pea-mint-ricotta ravioli in a lemon cream sauce today, it was to die for. It is also a very kid friendly restaurant!
Great Ambience. Great homemade Italian food
Service 5/5: the staff was attentive and friendly. We came in during the heat wave and they were all troopers.
Food 4/5: the pizza was delicious. Piping hot with a nice thin chewy crust. The clam pasta was just okay. I wouldn’t order it again. The pasta texture was good but the sauce wasn’t that memorable.
Price 4/5: a little high for the quality of food, but on par for most Seattle restaurants.
This review is overdue… Lago has hands down my favorite italian food in town! Been going here for a few years now and always enjoyed everything I ate there. Their pizzas… pasta dishes… bruschetta… on point! And the staff is super lovely and attentive. ❤️
Everything is delicious and their pizza night might be the best deal in Seattle
Wonderful Italian place. The pasta is light and yummy.
Took several good friends into Cafe Lago and left completely happy with the experience. The food was (and is always) perfectly balanced and delicious, the wait staff was professional, kind, and personable. And the atmosphere was clean and welcoming. This is on my Top 5 spots for a special occasion in all of the PNW.
Waiter was okay. Staff attentive. Food really boring. Simple and true to basic flavors, not exciting or interesting. And not for vegetarians and absolutely not for vegans— there’s only a chargrilled broccoli dish.
Loved the pasta! And the cocktails. And the ambiance and the staff. Would say pizza felt ever so slightly underdone
Anniversary dinner. Small menu but quality food. Noticed a lot of people getting pizza to go. Had the Linguini alle Vongole and Fettuccine con Polpette. Zuppa Inglese for dessert was excellent. Simple but so good. Great wines. Recommend!!
Probably the best Italian food in Seattle. The attention to detail in each dish really shows. The texture of the house made pasta is amazing. Cannot say enough good things about this place.
Delicious pizza!!! Even the entries n soup taste so good!!!
My wife and I went there for a “date night” dinner, and we had heard it was a sweet neighborhood spot, but we were not prepared for the sublime loveliness of this place! High ceilings, white table cloths and a great menu! We were able to sample a few items, plus we got some antipasti and it was all delicious. They have inexpensive plates and pizza, but I had the steak and it was delicious. My wife had some ravioli that they made there, and it was so good! We would go there again, for sure!
Really great place! The pizzas and cocktails are phenomenal and so is the staff <3
Best Italian restaurant in the city. Service, cocktails, wine & food were all excellent. Great neighborhood ambiance and simply a beautiful restaurant!!
I have driven by the place tons of times and never stopped in for Lord knows why. The food is incredible and the ambience is perfect for a date night. I can't remember exactly the name of the appetizer but it was like toast and roasted tomato and goat cheese and it was maybe the best food I've eaten in ages. Can't wait to go back.
Cafe Lago has been around for well over 20 years, so they must be doing something right. They offer a limited menu of good Italian fare. They offer a few very good anitpasti and a few good pasta and a few pizza. If you are looking for fish, poultry or other meats, you may be disappointed because it is not offered. I believe they only serve one (1) steak dish. Also - when full, the dining room (all hard surfaces) can be noisy. With wine or cocktails you will spend $100 a couple without effort. No liquor - you can spend less . Service staff is all young and eager to please. So....if you know go knowing this - you will enjoy your experience.
We truly enjoy this restaurant! We have watched it grow and mature over the last two decades and to their credit, they have maintained their high standards and level of quality!
Best lasagna I've ever eaten!!! It was our first time there. Loved it so much going back in a couple of days. Everything was delicious
Absolutely the best lasagna I have ever had. Everything is good. The appetizers, the desserts, the ravioli. Staff is great, wide selection of alcohol, and fantastic food.
Delicious gnocchi. I consider this dish a test of Italian restaurants since it's so easy to end up with heavy or tasteless little dumplings. But these were light and fluffy. My friend enjoyed her paper thin ravioli as well. Very subtle.
Amazing food and wine in a lovely setting. Matt, our server, was so friendly and fun! Definitely get the incredible lasagne.
What can you say about a restaurant which has not lowered its standards in decades? Gnocchis which would float off your plate if they were not held down by a sublimely well balanced marinara. A lasagna as delicate as Thai silk...and I could go on and on. The service was discreet, smooth. A knowledgeable and friendly staff. The wine is well chosen and priced sensibly. Thank you Cafe Lago for still being part of the Seattle dining scene.
Loved this for romantic date night. Family friendly spot (paper on top of tablecloths). Dropping $100 will get you an excellent multi course meal complete with 1 appetizer, 2 entrees, 1 dessert, 2 beers and a tip. Portions are spot on given the multi course expectation. Very nice vegetarian options for menu size (recommend gnocchi and handmade ravioli). Service was excellent. Reservation for 5:30 beat all the Friday night crowd. Walking distance from arboretum if you want a quiet romantic summer evening walk.
We had an awesome experience...excellent food, great service. The Gnocchi and Lasagna was to die for...so light that it melts in your mouth! The Pizza too was crisp and light especially the Caprino!!! The cocktails were well made and the service was fantastic...definitely coming back!!!
Delicious food, friendly staff, great service and lovely atmosphere. By far the best Italian restaurant in Seattle.
Very lovely local Italian restaurant. Staff are very friendly and helpful, even when just drinking water with food. Caesar salad was nice. Nothing special. But pizza and pasta was very impressive. Very good thin crust. Excellent topping. Lovely casual ambience.
Our go-to Italian place in Seattle. We love the olivata appetizer, the ravioli is always amazing, gnocchi is super soft & light. The bartender makes super good cocktails and very good wine selections. Go here!
Loved it. Reminiscent of everybody’s favorite dining room and a nicely curated menu with great service.
Delicate, house made everything. Slightly sweet gravy over a custard like ricotta lasagna that I felt privileged to enjoy.
If you have a problem with Lago, it’s probably you.
I've been to Cafe Lago several times now, and each visit is a treat. I was so impressed with how the staff handled my party of 2 moms and 3 starving kids. We were a mess! The host tucked us away in a corner, which made it easier to corral the kids. The server gave us suggestions on the best pizzas to order, and got some bread to our table before the kids could pass out. We spilled stuff and threw things on the floor--and oh wow, the staff was on it with style and a smile! The food was great, and still great the next day as leftovers! Thank you, Cafe Lago! So nice to have solid restaurants in Montlake!
Nice neighborhood Italian restaurant. Food was good. Wine selection was decent. Desserts were good as well.
It's a safe bet when you feel like having italian.
Gets really busy on husky football game days.
The pasta and cheeses are excellent. A notch above most Italian restaurants. Pricey for Seattle, but worth it. Dropped a star for inconsistent service - started off fine and then became very slow late in the meal. We waited 15+ minutes for someone to pickup the check.
Local, rustic Italian food in a great atmosphere. They have plenty of seating and a great variety of menu options from unique oven fired pizzas to gnocchi, fettuccine, pork chops, steak and pheasant. They also have wonderful craft cocktails and desserts - the panna cotta is a must.
Amazing, flavorful food in a great space.
One of the best Italian restaurants in the greater Seattle area. Pastas made fresh, everything I have eaten here has been delicious. The lasagna is unlike any lasagna you have ever had. Much more like a pastry...amazing. Pomodori al forno appetizer voted best in Seattle for a reason.
In my opinion, this is the best pizza in Seattle. Ultra thin crust perfection. Great salads, and handcrafted cocktails. I have no idea if anything else here tastes good, because the pizza is all I ever want.
Pretty good Italian food! I would say the pizza is the go to menu option. The service was nice as well but the restaurant was a bit pricey for the quality of food. I'll be back for the delicious pizza when I have deeper pockets.
This is hands down the best pizza I've ever had! They have great pastas and appetizers too. Unfortunately they no longer have a happy hour, but the food is still worth the price.
Magical! As soon as you step in you get out of Seattle, enter somewhere in Never Ending Story. The clientele, food and service extraordinary. Everything has a special touch. Starters are the closest to real Mediteranean you can find in Seattle. Worth for money! Cool and romantic as well.
I would give Cafe Lago a five but no one believes anything is perfect. This place come pretty much close to that. A perfect neighborhood restaurant. Great atmosphere better food. Everything is FRESH, pasta and vegetables included. Not to mention the bartender makes a excellent cocktail if your into GREAT cocktails. I recommend any Seattleite to check this place out. People visiting Seattle should too!
Great service..good drink menu and great food. The best lasagna ever. It's meatless and is filling and light and airy at the same time. Highly recommend.
Local treasure - lovely, fantastic food & beverage, great staff and atmosphere. Pizza reminds us of a place in Luxembourg! Good mix of families, dates and friends!
Lasagne was delicious and flavorful. Really nice, helpful, and delightful waiter. Great ambiance.
Seriously, this is some serious food, service and atmosphere! Just try it and see for yourself! It’s just excellent all around!
Sitting at the bar is fun. Good cocktails. Pizza could have used a couple more minutes in the oven to get crispier, but was tasty nonetheless.
Friendly and inviting, delicious pizzas and amazing Caprese. The staff and bartender are top notch and easy on the eyes ;0). Family friendly lots of people with well behaved children.
ONE OF MY FAVORITE NEIGHBORHOOD RESTAURANTS. FANTASTIC MENU. LOVE DROPPING BY TO GRAB A DRINK AND BITE AT THE BAR.
Really enjoyed the spaghetti and meatballs but everything else was sub par and expensive. They try some interesting things but they just don't get the flavors right. No balance. For how expensive it was, I expected more precision.
For starters, the eggplant appi was lovely caponata like, just needed to ask for more bread. The local Taylor clam linguini in clear sauce was a little to aldente for me, but nice flavor. Staff & service was perfect for a group of 11.
Had an amazing meal - great steak and pasta and apps. Thank you to the barkeep who raced after me to give me my credit card that I had forgotten!
Unlike most restaurants, they don't charge for their tasty homemade bread and olive oil.
Appetizers (something with Eggplant, tomatoes, and something else) and rabbit liver pate which my parents liked were good. Wood fired handmade white pizza with Chantrelle mushrooms was very thin and tasty. My mom is a former NPR food commentator. Main entrees with venison (good) but overly cheesy lasanga (where's the beef?) and clams on a bed of spaghetti were adequate.
They earned back points for dessert.
Verdict: come back for dessert only or go to Vendemia in Madronna. Plenty of free street parking.
Food and service r great i have porkshop and it was huge portion polenta that came with it was also nice
Blown away by the quality of their pizzas. I’ve been searching for that light, flaky, wood-fire crust that one can only find in Italy, and this is the closest thing that you can find in the PNW. Prices are very reasonable as well.
The food, service, and drinks were amazing! Highly recommend! The wine selection was great, burrata and caprese salad were delicious and fresh, and the lasagna was perfect!
Good quality flavorful Italian. Not the same old fare
This place never disappoints. The food and service are always impeccable. I've been here on date nights, with the family, with out-of-town visitors, for celebrations, everything. It's a great place. Not cheap, though.
Best lasagne I've ever eaten!!!
Very good food, small portions and high price were acceptable but irritating to some so half star off... Table covered with paper was just a notch less than desired effect so quarter star off.... It's less than 4.5 stars rounding down to 4. It's good, I want to go back, but can only do it if I were rich.
Great food great service. Gnocchi was excellent
Would give it 10 if I could! The food is delicious and Carla and crew remain the very, very best this town has to offer!
Nice place. They have the best vegetarian lasagna I've ever had in my life. Very delicate with great flavor.
Great service, wonderful ambiance, and the food is top notch Italian with fresh, seasonal ingredients. Get the Pomodoro - you won’t regret it.
Service and food r great..we have porkchop and gnopchi...the porkchop was huge...and yummie
I would give it five stars but: limited menu and poor parking. But I am stingy with stars so four, for me, means... Great place, great food and we'll worth it.
Came at the last minute for dinner after a long day. They accommodated me, which was greatly appreciated. Had just what I wanted, knew to ask the right questions. Left one of the better tips I have ever left.
Montlake's longstanding Italian gem. Try the pasta, made fresh daily on the premises, the wood-fired thin crust pizzas, or the signature lasagna with delicate layers of pasta and bechemel.
Great food. Great service. Great atmosphere.
Excellent Italian food, highly recommended for a celebratory night out or just a really good dinner. Try the lasagna!
Definitely some of the best lasagna in Seattle, I recommend the roasted tomatoes appetizer.
Love their lasagna, and pomodori al forno! So good that I want it to be my last meal on earth!
I stopped by for dinner based upon a recommendation and tried the lasagna. It was superb!
Wonderful thin crust pizza. Good, clean, open, simple ambiance for an Italian restaurant.
Cheerful local Italian but not particularly cheap.
Nice place, but quite pricey for what you get. Good Italian, but not great Italian food.
Very good classic italian food, with a homey atmosphere. Will definitely be here again.
The food is perfect every visit! The Pomodori, eggplant and Lasagna are not to be missed!
Was doing a conference in Seattle for one day and this is recommended by my Airbnb host. Got a pasta and it was really nice!
Always have great food here and the lasagna is the best, most unique anywhere.
Thin crust pizza has very little toppings and sauce in the center, covering just half of the surface.
Quite popular and good prices except the pizza stuffings were sparse and covered only half of the surface.
So great to reunite with Grilled Eggplant and perfected house made ravioli.
The lasagna here is so fresh and delicious that all other lasagnas taste vile by comparison. You'd spit them out, you would.
Cafe Lago has been our go-to date night restaurant for years now. Always an excellent meal!
Pomodori al forno, homemade pasta/pizza.. mm.. so tasty. My new neighborhood spot, no question.
Great food and fantastic service. The ambiance is cozy perfect for a night out.
Never disappointed here. Best lasagna in town. Good service. Good ambience
All of the food here is great, but the lasagna is incredible.
Delicious food, homey environment and friendly service. Pricey, but worth it for special occasions.
Best Italian pasta in Seattle!
The food was amazing!! The service was great and the place was really clean!! Loved it!!
Great service and food. Has a great feel about the restaurant.
Amazing place, not vegan friendly but still We love it
Lovely place and you can tell the staff have a love for each other. It feels like old Seattle.
Great food, amazing service!!! The whole experience was fantastic, highly recommend!
Stellar food and stellar staff. So delicious, in glad we chose to go here for a date night.
Great food, friendly staff, and tables that kids can draw on
Very good service and delicious appetizers & cocktails.
Love this place!! Food is amazing.

Great food and good service. Not cheap but worth it
Everything was totally Delicious. Highly recommend lasagne.

Excellent food, excellent service, and prices quite OK

Best lasagne ever and the service is always excellent
Amazing food and a relaxing atmosphere.

Great casual ambiance with really good food!
Excellent service, good prices, delicious food.
Delicious, but very small portions

Monday Pizza
The best pasta
Excellent!
we went on a monday night per Kenji's suggestion for $10 pizza's and gnocchi and it was awesome. I highly suggest it and reservations are required. what was even more awesome than the fantastic food was the great service by Zawadi! He came to our table with a big smile and was very warm, accommodating and friendly. he checked on us just the right amount, making sure my 2 little kids ages 4 and 7 were happy with their food. I will be sure to come back and was very impressed with the great service and food we received. Zawadi was a great server and we were so glad that we went out to dinner here.
I loooove Lago! I've been coming here for almost 25 years! (I'm 27) lol so basically as long as I can remember! Yes, it's a little expensive BUT so worth it. It's an amazing place to celebrate a birthday, and anniversary, or just a special event! Their Caesar salad is hands-down the best salad I've ever had in my entire life, I have literally searched for a better one all over the country and I've never been able to find one. I love their linguine and meatballs, and their Pomodori is absolutely to die for! They also have really good steak. pizza, and fries, and lasagna ... basically I've never had anything here I don't like. If you're in the mood for Italian, or just in the neighborhood, definitely try it! Before Covid it's hard to get a table so you definitely want to make a reservation or get there right when they open, but it's definitely worth waiting for!
Café Lago is consistently fantastic. It is a wonderful thing to be able to say about a favorite Italian restaurant. My family has been going to Café Lago to celebrate family occasions for 25+ years.
My family (13 of us) went last Saturday to celebrate various birthdays happening in the month of February. It was another happy memory.
Their menu, hasn’t changed a lot over the years and I’m glad, I think it’s because they’re committed to perfecting what they do serve. I also feel they’re very committed to great service as well because a 13-top isn’t an easy thing to manage but our server during this last visit was great, much like all the other times. Some of my favorite things here: anything with tomatoes, they make tomatoes taste amazing whether it’s antipasti, pizza or pasta sauce. Their lasagna is legendary, very delicious. I enjoy their eggplant caponata. Their wood fired pizzas <chef’s-kiss>.
It has the vibe of a nice friendly neighborhood restaurant. The sort that makes you feel comfortable and welcome, zero pretentiousness.
If you’re in the city and contemplating where to go for a delicious Italian meal. I say, stop thinking about it, and come here.
