Reviews of Red Iguana 2
J. Alexander Murillo
We went with a large party on a busy night. Our reservation was honored in a timely manner and we were promptly seated when our party arrived. Our waitress was very helpful in taking drink, appetizer, and food orders. She was obviously very busy in her section of the restaurant, waiting on no less than 3 other large parties like ours. Nonetheless, service was prompt and friendly.
The food was terrifically presented and delicious. Red Iguana's interpretation of mole is probably the best in a major area restaurant and they have several delicious options.
The waiting area was cramped with people who didn't make reservations. Outdoor heating is not available so plan ahead!
Red Iguana is a place to eat a great meal and enjoy time with a group. I wouldn't come here for the bar or to vibe on casual dishes.
Great job, Red Iguana!

We tried this place out based on the show's recommendation, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. They weren't wrong, this place is awesome! Their Mole is really good and their salsa, well, we bought a quart of it to go! The staff were all super friendly, we went twice in 1 week for to-go orders and everyone was great. The 2nd night I went back to the car and they brought everything out to me. We definitely recommend!

A very busy place but we had a margarita at the bar while waiting. The fajitas were tasty as were the chips and salsa. The only down side is rice and beans are extra. Worth checking out if you like good Mexican food.

The food was fantastic. I had the Enchiladas Amarillos the sauce is so good! We really enjoyed the patio seating and the great service provided by the wait staff. Every plate we saw pass by looked so good we were asking our waitress what certain dishes were.

We went to Red Iguana 2 on a recommendation from a friend and we are so glad we listened! The service was great and the food was delicious. What stuck me the most is the finely craft combination of unique flavors. I must also give a shout-out to our server, Manny for his margarita recommendation. A lot of times when I ask a server for their recommendations they will quickly suggest the top-shelf, most expensive items. Manny took a different approach and the margarita was spot-on perfect. Also, when I asked if adding the optional beans and rice to my enchilada entree would be too much to eat, he didn’t push the upswell, but instead explained the size of the entree and left the decision up to me. BTW, I’m glad I skipped the beans and rice because the enchiladas were more than plenty. I hope you enjoy your Red Iguana 2 experience as much as we did.

Expect to wait if you’re going at an hour when other people eat. It’s delicious and busy, and worth the wait. A local favorite with so many delicious options. I love the green sauce with chips and often find myself craving it when it’s been too long since I’ve had it. I don’t ever remember to take photos of my food, because I’m too busy eating it. Close to the train tracks, which adds entertainment to an already colorful establishment. Many drink options and a full menu of top Mexican favorites. Chips and salsa, but do yourself a favor and add the green sauce, a chimichanga, and a beer, paired with friends or family, and your night will be made.

I live in Texas, where Mexican food is a big deal. I was super skeptical going for Mexican food in Utah. My expectations were pretty low.
But I was pleasantly surprised. The food is fantastic. The menu is pretty extensive, perhaps even slightly overwhelming. The margaritas are on point. Even my kids enjoyed their meal, which doesn’t happen often.
Can’t say I’ll be back, as I don’t live in Utah. But should I find myself back in Salt Lake, this place will be my first stop.

No wonder this place was featured on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives show. This place is the real deal if you want extremely tasty Mexican food.
First thing, make a reservation advance! Especially for dinner, it’s almost impossible to get seated without a reservation that day.
Staff were very friendly and checked on us often to refill waters and get us drinks and more chips and salsa.
They bring out complementary chips and salsa that is honestly the best that I have ever had. The chips are super crispy and well salted, and the salsa is surprisingly spicy yet boasting a lot of roasted and fresh flavors.
I went with their tacos don Ramon, and my friend went with their chicken and steak fajitas. You can’t go wrong with either option. The tacos, while looking like entirely filled with lettuce at first, actually have a ton of beautifully seasoned and tender steak and chorizo. The tortillas themselves are lightly fried to that they’re in between us often a crunchy taco shell. It’s served with a tangy green sauce, a big jalapeño, and a bed of fresh pico de gallo.
The fajitas are also excellent. A big portion of sizzling chicken, steak, and onions are served with tortillas, guacamole, and pico.
In the end, I highly recommend this if you are looking for the best Mexican food that Utah has offer. There’s no wonder this place and it’s sister restaurant have been voted as some of the top restaurants in Utah time and time again.

Food was excellent! The mango enchiladas and enmoladas were great. There was ample seating available, as well as seating for large parties (this place is way bigger on the inside). The playlist was also great and provided some fun vibes :) Looking forward to coming back and trying some other stuff on the menu!

Due to the long wait I ended up at their 2nd location.
After a short wait I was seated at the bar and enjoyed a nice drink and one of the best meals I've had in SLC.
I can now understand the long wait time which I do not mind as long as the food is delicious!
This is definitely a must when you are in town.
Maria Glidden
This spot came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. Everything we had was delicious. Definitely ask for the mole sampler plate to taste all the sauces.
Milaina Pena
Fantastic. They said it would be a 25 minute wait but it ended up being more like 5. The service was super fast and friendly. The food came out very quickly and was some of the best Mexican food I have ever had. The Mole was phenomenal. And the mushroom Al ajillo to die for delicioso 😋 …
C. Jules
This place is a family favorite. Whenever we come to town we usually try to have a family dinner here.
The service is always friendly, though you may wait for your food for a bit if you go during peak times because the food is prepared fresh. Our server, Manny was fantastic and attentive.
I had the Red Iguana Dinner Salad with chicken... not my usual choice but I was looking for something lighter. It was a surprisingly good salad.
My aunt got the Topitio Plate, enchilada, chile relleno and a chicken flauta. It was all authentic and delicious. It is a lot of food... so be prepared for leftovers.
Anthony G. Canizares
We loved it. With 7 different kinds of mole including a strawberry and mango flavor! Authentic. Tasty, clean and great service. When in Salt Lake City, this is a must stop. We beat the crowd by minutes leaving a line waiting to get in for lunch. Crazy.
Brendan A. MacWade
The food and drinks are just as good as the original location, just in a bigger, more ventilated space with concrete floors. Really well done. Friendly service and food comes out of the kitchen just as quickly as the original Red Iguana. I have now made SLC my final stop on western road trips mainly because I know I will end my trip with a big authentic Mexican dinner at Red Iguana. It is outstanding.
Alex P
Incredible food! Got the Enchiladas Amarillos with their spicy mole. Fantastic service too, my sister is vegan and had a special order that they nailed. Could not recommend more.
Bill Freeman
Delicious mole food available. Can get a bit spicy (which I enjoy). Great appetizer available that consists of jalapenos stuffed with cheese and covered in cheese and sauce.
Jeff Albright
Stopped in to grab a late dinner after work. Decided on a jalapeño margarita, which was almost the perfect balance of sweet and spicy, and the Mole Coloradito. The mole was some of the best I’ve tasted and the carnitas were juicy and tender. And it came with the standard chips and (very tasty) salsa, and a side of rice and beans. I didn’t leave hungry!
Saket Rajput
Our client recommended this place for authentic Mexican cuisine, we reached this place around 11:30 am and still had to wait for 20-25 mins to secure a table. The crowd starts gathering from 11 itself I believe.
Food was decent definitely worth visiting at least once.
J Jones
It lives up to the hype I hear about it. Customer service was great and recommended some great dishes. I'll definitely be back.
Richard Lauser
I’m not a huge fan of Mexican food but this place is a home run! Everything, from apps to desert, was perfect. Our server was friendly and got everything right.
Tim Ivory
Fantastic food and amazing service! Top notch for sure 💯
BUT…
Carne Asada meat and over cooked and dry. Had to add more salsa for flavor. Otherwise pretty good.
Bruce Boyes
Good food and service. Fun decor. I recommend the Moles. I had chicken breast with pistachio mole and liked it. They have room for groups, our guide dog club has our annual dinner there.
Reggie Karikottu
Hands down one of the best restaurants we’ve tried in all of Salt Lake City! We had made reservations 2 months prior to our trip and there was still a wait of 15 minutes. This place was packed!! The food was incredible! By God’s Grace we found parking right in front of the entrance otherwise parking is a beast! Service was good too!! Highly recommend this place!!
Stacie Grimshaw
The food was very good! I had one of their steaks with guacamole, beans, and an enchilada. Medium to medium well, and it was so juicy and soft. I also had their fried cheesecake drizzled with chocolate and caramel. Perfect end to my birthday dinner!
The service was prompt, courteous, and kind even with a very full house on a Tuesday. The music was slightly too loud for me with all the conversations going on. But perfect if you want your date to lean in a little closer to hear you. Ha ha!
Lacey Vickers
We had an excellent lunch experience! Our waiter made some great recommendations on menu items but also brought us a sampling of their different mole sauces so we could try before we ordered. Everyone in our group enjoyed their food. The build your own margarita was great , too. Fresh lime juice, no mixes — delicious!
Kassie Markos
The Red Iguana is a must visit whenever we’re in Salt Lake! The guacamole, margaritas (especially the tamarindo) and various mole dishes are a must. Highly recommend!
J F
Best Mexican food I have ever eaten!!!
Also, most of the menu can be made gluten free! The chips are made off-site in a dedicated fryer. The mole sauces are all gluten free-- if you ask to try them before you order, the waiter will bring a plate of samples for you!
Good atmosphere! Good for kids! Definitely will be back!
W Wyzard
Have never been disappointed. My go to spot to take friends and business people when I have a group. It’s always consistent and the staff is great.
Their little mole sample plate is great so you can try all of the great moles they have.
Their salsa is amazing and the chips are fresh
Sarah Chavez
Delicious! I have always said you can tell how good a Mexican restaurant is by the salsa they use with their chips!! This place is the bomb. Sonora Shrimp was the best I have EVER had. The flavor was amazing service was great! Highly recommended, I'll definitely be back!
Adam Smit
What is there to say that hasn't already been said? I had a wonderful lunch with a friend from Florida who had been wanting to try this location for quite some time and was equally impressed.
Good lunch, good conversation, nice visit.
Superior food, #2's atmosphere is phenomenal I love all the artwork there especially that John Lennon Picture and the Statue of Liberty picture.
A staple for Utah if you haven't been in a while, go. If you were there yesterday it'll be just as good tomorrow.
For the first time in my history of eating at Red iguana I showed up at 11:00 a.m. and was immediately seated I didn't have to wait which was nice so go early.
The patio is nice and warm despite the 22° temperatures outside.
Preston Rawlings
My goodness! This place is incredible! The food here is amazing! Highly recommend the fajitas or their steak! The menu can be a bit overwhelming but if you look at the menu they have stars next to their popular items! The steak was juicy and the sauce the out on it is amazing! We will definitely be returning several more times. It can be a long wait but they will take your number down and text you when they’re ready for you. We just waited in the AC of our car.
They will also give you chips and salsa for the table. Their guac and pico are also very delicious!
Jiaqi Liu
Good place for Mexican food, it would be more tasty if the Jalapeño in our appetizer is not that spicy 😂
Laura James
This is a really great restaurant with great vibes. We tried to go to the original Red Iguana but the line was so long. The wait at this place on a weekend night was less than 30 minutes. The outside patio area was just great and had bug netting around the outside so there were absolutely no flies annoying you while you ate.
The servers were so friendly and made sure that everything was up to standard. The food was delicious and we were given free chips and salsa when we first sat down. Super attentive staff and even better food!
Jacob Tidwell
The Red Iguana (2) came highly recommended by a local resident and I now understand why! Friendly staff and festive atmosphere. Indoor and patio seating. Menu was authentic Mexican food, so everything you’d expect, but with their own local flare. Our host recommended we try to Mole’ sampler to determine which sauce we’d like most. Food was wonderful!
Kattitude_
Not awful. It did not live up to the hype, although I'm told it is all about which location you go to. The different sauces were interesting and they do let you sample them, which is nice. Average food otherwise.
Linda Scholl
We really enjoyed our meal at Red Iguana 2. We went early (5 PM) on a Friday night and we were able to get seated right away but by the time we left there were people waiting for tables. The food was delicious and portions were generous as well. The menu has many good options (try one of the combo platters) and the service was excellent. Definitely recommend!
Jason Heppler
Love Red Iguana 2! Always make a point to stop here on my way through Salt Lake. Great food and atmosphere. Thank you!
Tara Dalzin
Definitely recommend this place. The food is fantastic. The staff are great and good at what they do. All of the mole dishes I've tried I've loved. It's a popular place so make a reservation if your going during their busier times.
Cole West
The food is possibly the best Mexican I've ever had and the service and ambiance are spectacular. Huevos Motuleños is amazing. I had the jalapeño margarita first then decided to get a tamarind margarita with jalapeño purée and it was amazing. If you like Mexican food and don't come here, you're missing out
Johnny Crush
The atmosphere is nice, the food and service used to be a whole lot better. My wife nor I liked our dinner. We brought a family of 5, and spent a good penny, we will not be back! Sometimes when a business grows to quickly, everything suffers.
Danielle Davis
Quick and friendly service! Maria the waitress really helped us with any questions we had, quick to refill drinks and a very friendly and likeable personality. She had good suggestions for food on the menu and brought out a sample plate for moles. FOOD WAS DELICIOUS 😋 came from Seattle on a road trip. Passed through salt lake city looking for some good food and the reviews led us to Red Iguana. The first Red Iguauna had a 35 min wait so they led us to the Red Iguana 2! DEFINITELY STOP HERE FOR FOOD!!!
Jenn Brawn
The Red Iguana is one of our favorite family restaurants! The food is delicious (flautas and fish tacos are personal favorites) and the staff make every visit a pleasure. The dining space is usually packed for weekend dinners and they don't take reservations, so plan on a lengthy wait. I promise, it's worth it!
There is pleasant, covered outdoor seating if you can get it, and the whole atmosphere is kitschy and fun. Glaring yellow walls, concrete floors, and turquoise tables manage to feel welcoming and authentic. Relax and enjoy!
Niladri Roy
Awesome food probably the best Mexican food you will ever have. Portion size is large as well. Must try their signature dishes, my personal favorite is Chicken Red Iguana combination plate. The employees are so warming in their behavior. Overall you will get a memorable dining experience.
Jackson Ward
It’s always amazing and it’s always been busy so be prepared to wait. But that’s usually a good sign. The food is amazing, any dishes with the mole are phenomenal. There are good sized portions worth their cost. We came about the same time last year and had the same server, Miguel, he is one of the best servers I’ve ever had (I worked as a server for 5 years) He was very attentive and personable. He got our drink orders to us quickly and was ready to take orders. Food was out to us well under 15 mins while we snacked on chips and salsa. We’ll be back next year as it’s one of our must do’s when we visit Utah. Always worth the wait.
Kari McMinn
We absolutely loved Red Iguana. It was the best meal we had on our travels through Arizona and Utah. I had eaten at Red Iguana 1 years ago and knew I had to come back when I was in Salt Lake City. The most impressive part is their assortment of moles. You can ask for a sample plate of each and it’s incredible the variety they have. I loved all of them but the Red Pipian was a favorite. We ended up ordering the Red Iguana and the Poblano sampler plate and it was a huge amount of food.
Suzanne Miladin
Incredible menu, food, and margaritas! The most unique and diversified menu I have seen at Mexican restaurant and coming from California, I have been to a lot!
The enchiladas with tomatillo sauce were particularly amazing!
Gaurav Hegde
Great Mexican place close to the airport .
We got the tacos , the rancheros , the fajitas and the chicken soup .
All were really good . The spicy Margaritas were refreshing as well.
However the best part was the chile salsa sauce which comes with the chips .
Great service and at a great location.
Highly recommended if you are in the area.
Susan Mattinson
2022 Once again, Red Iguana does not disappoint! This is another update a year from the last one.
This time I ordered the fish tacos, made with Mahi Mahi, delicious and very filling. I could have taken some leftovers home but I just kept eating!
Even though it was quite chilly outside, the patio dining was wonderful. We even love the ambiance when the very loud trains go by a few feet away!
2021 Update: Really great order of Enchiladas, guacamole, fish tacos, even margaritas ALL delivered for a Father’s Day surprise!!
The best Mexican food ever. Very hard to find Mole, in fact, 7 different kinds.
Also, the guacamole is very good. All of the enchiladas are fabulous my favorite is Enchiladas Suizas, I only wish I could eat more!
Parking can be a challenge, there is always a wait for tables in the evening, so the parking lots fill up fast.
If you even remotely like Mexican food, this is a MUST DO eatery.
Christopher Peck
My sauce tasted exactly like spaghetti'os. The sauce on my ladies burritos had a very odd taste. I only gave two stars because the drinks were pretty good. Over $200 for 4 people but it was worth less than $100 in quality. Won't be going back.
R. H.
This restaurant was rated so highly, I had to try it.
It really was good.
My meat was well flavored and nothing gristly or fatty. My rice was perfect and fresh. Anything crunchy was excellent, from the fresh chips to the toastadas. Nothing was dripping with grease. All my food tasted freshly made.
Holy MOLE... There are a lot of mole sauces to choose from... Mango or Strawberry to Cinnamon or Spice.
Definitely worth the try and the fight to find a parking spot.
Easton Harvey
Came at a busy time. Parking was rough and service was slow. The volume of patrons must have affected the quality of food as well since it was not as great as usual. The atmosphere is fun and they have a nice little bar to hang out at. Known for and highly recommend their mole!
Jimmie Eaton
The food was absolutely delicious! The serving sizes were more than generous. The staff was all very friendly and helpful.
I love the atmosphere/decor. It is kept very clean. I'd definitely recommend this place.
Ashlie Young
Red Iguana 2 is everything you want from an upscale authentic Mexican cuisine. The food is plated with intent and the flavors are on point. They provide a large array of options with reasonable prices for what you are getting. They have an outside patio next to train tracks and surprisingly when the train passed it was quiet and fun to watch. Great experience and even better food. Only complaint was their chips were pretty disappointing. I'm not a picky chip person but they were really broken and bland. Even with the chips I will absolutely be back.
Amelia Petersen
I love everything there! It is so good!!! I can't even tell you how good this Mexican food is! I highly recommend getting the moly sample dish to figure out which one you like the most! The staff is really nice and helpful! Highly recommend
Michael Bean
Our party ended up waiting much longer than they said they wait would be, they didn't seem to manage the waiting parties very well. That said, when we did get our table, the service was excellent, food was great, restaurant was comfortable. Parking was a bit of a pain. But overall it was a good experience and we'd definitely come back. Thanks!
David
Lovely space. Busy lunch group. Chicken enchiladas YUM. Unfortunately one of neighbors was talking loud (the train tracks are across the street 😂). Another visit. No crowded. If you have more than 2 you should call ahead to reserve a time and table for your group. Enchiladas Verdes this time. Quite delicioso!
Mathis Van Eetvelde
Came here twice over a 3 month span, both times the food was delicious! Highly recommended!
Pablo Cortez
Such great food! The menu has all the traditional items one would expect but on top of that, pulls recipes from many parts of Mexico that you wouldn't ordinarily find in the U.S. Fantastic!!!! Service was phenomenal.
Makenzie Donnelly
We had a wonderful experience. We had a reservation set for a friend’s birthday, called to add more and it was a breeze. Once we got in, we had John as a server. What a great guy. Cannot say anything but that. John was wonderful, accommodating and very friendly. 10/10 of a gent.
Daniel “The Mayor” Darling
Absolutely loved this place. Got to bring my grandpa in for his birthday and he loved it! Will be back to visit again!!
Ross Jordan
For Utah...very good Mexican food. Having spent months in Mexico City, and the better part of my career in Texas...modestly good Mexican food is where I can rank it. Its like expecting Bangers and Mash to taste authentic while traveling in Peru...LOL. For the area, its good food. Service and drinks were ok. I think the expectations were inflated. Not their fault. If you expect good Mexican food, you are going to get it. We will be back.
Mitchninja
This was an amazing meal. Out of 7 people there was nothing but praise for all of our food. The Mole is such a unique flavor. The carne asada was delicious. The staff was friendly and quick. And for the price you do get a lot of food.
Chandra Richards
Best I've had in over 15 yrs. However, the margaritas are a bit strange. Served in a rocks glass with 2 stirring straws? This might be their thing but drinking a frozen beverage through small stirring straws was difficult. Thus still didn't ruin my experience. This will be my go-to Mexican joint for sure!! 😊
Chris Sullivan
Parking was rough and long wait but food was great and service was fantastic.
Tarrell
This was a nice gem and great reccomendation. The food is great (Mexican food) and especially the drinks. I had a couple burritos and my friend had fish tacos, we both enjoyed our food. Only thing lacking was the dessert selection in our opinion but would definitely visit this restaurant again next visit to the SLC area
Rosalie zwart
Very great food and very amazing staff and drinks will definitely be coming back
Katie Page
Great combo plates. Big portions. Excellent food. Can't wait to go back. The meat quality was excellent. Don't think you can go wrong with any menu item.
kimberly brzozowski
The entire wait staff was amazing! The food was great and it came out really quick! The margaritas are delicious! It's been a long time since I had such a great experience at a restaurant!
Lissandalake17
The food at #2 isn't good. The enchilada sauce tasted like tomato soup. We did have a good waitress so that brought my over all score up to 3 stars.
Great Stag
The food tasted excellent and the service was fine but some train kept on driving back and worth, sounding it's horn. It was very loud and slightly disturbing for some of the guests I was with. Not really the restaurants fault...but if that happens a lot, I'd consider moving the entire establishment..or contacting the train company or city because it seemed almost intentional.
The parking also sucks.
Kareem Yakub
We come out to SLC for a snowboarding trip every year and Red Iguana is always a place where eat dinner. It never disappoints and the wait is worth it. Honestly, I could get into the individual dishes that we had but just know that everything here will be delicious. The portions are generous, so I have no clue how one could have room for dessert. Also, our server Miguel was the man. Buenisimo.
Hunter Winkel
Really unique vibe, our waiter was great. Feel free to ask for some mole samples, you won’t regret it. Ended up getting the enchilada verde (w/ the green mole) it was killer.
Andy Casper
This is a place where you branch out to try something different. You do that because you’ll be pleasantly surprised and delighted. The flavors and spices here are unmatched. One of the finest restaurants in our state.
Eric Medeiros
Everything about this place is amazing. Go immediately. They are so friendly and the food is superb. I can't wait to go back! Also the table chips and salsa are bomb 🔥🔥🔥
Weston Teece
The food was very good and had a phenomenal experience. We were sat fairly quickly for how busy it was. We had a friendly waiter who kept our water topped off. Food was made quickly and was just as good as it always is. Of my dozenish visits here I have only jad one rough experience that wasnt all that bad. Great food great place great service.
Cassidy Strode
Very tasty, arrive early for smaller groups. Reservations are highly recommended for larger groups. Small parking lot next to building. Staff was quick and attentive. Everyone very much enjoyed their food and left very full. I kinda wish I'd left room for dessert but sadly enjoyed my meal too much. The moles are excellent get all of em and share!
Dan Cho
Incredible food. Fantastic service. Flavors are awesome. Drinks delicious. Raymond was superb server. Explained the Moles will always return.
Donnie Ozenne
Cool place with a really great vibe. Fantastic '80s music pumping through the speakers. Food was above average but with a more traditional Mexican flair than Tex-Mex. We would highly recommend coming to this place as a little off the beaten path and parking can be questionable at times. House margarita was super weak but the special margaritas were worth diving into.
Camille Davis
Fantastic meal! Absolutely love the food here. Authentic, high quality and delicious! Our waitress was super friendly and everything was served in a timely fashion. I love the ambiance at the restaurant. Definitely my favorite place to get Mexican food; hands down.
I had the special of the day, roasted chicken with a special mole sauce. 👌 simply amazing dish.
pckelkins
Better than the 1st. The food is the same but the place is better.
So many improvements. Room to wait inside. Clean and new. The old restarant is a classic but this is nicer.
I would prefer a less spicy option on the salsa. We ordered some pico se gallo that was excellent.
So many options and not just the traditional Mexican American dishes
Polite staff
Call ahead seating is available.
More parking at this location.
Denise Gan
Pretty great experience here. You're able to try a sampler plate of the mole sauces before ordering. I found the coloradito to be the best and least sweet. I ordered the puntas de filete a la norteña with the coloradito instead of the almond mole. Skip the rice - it's bland. Refried beans are pretty decent. Salsa is fresh with a little kick. Chips are thin and on point. Guac was excellent - seems easy but other places water it down into a tasteless slurry. This was pure hass avocado with lime, tomato, and chile. Servers were attentive. Never had an empty glass.
Mischa Schlichting
Sadly, I have not been here in 9 years. Finally made it back to town and enjoyed every bite. Food is delicious and you can't go wrong no matter what you choose. Drinks are great as well.
Brad Bern
A little bit of a wait, but well worth it! Great food and great value. Holey mole sauce!! With 6 different mole sauces to choose from you will certainly find a flavor to blow your mind, highly recommend! Cocktails made with fresh squeezed juices are a fantastic touch as well, so refreshing
Bradley Godfrey
The music and did was amazing.
I even ordered a straight salad and it was so good. The attention to detail on my plate for just a salad made me a Red iguana 2 convert.
Doug Robison
This is good food! The outside of the building has a very large iguana and the stickers on the door are funny to read, hence, the photo of the door. I had the beef chimi. It's very flavorful with a crunchy exterior. My wife had the steak rancheros. The meat is very tender and well seasoned. She indicated that there was a more gristle than she expected. I had a piece and I would definitely order it. My daughter had chicken tacos. She said they were good. The atmosphere is pleasant. It is a bit on the pricey side. For the three of us, with just water to drink, it was $50 + tip. The reason I deducted on side was the slowness of our server. There were several other servers in the area and they were very attentive to their tables. Our server was very friendly but it just took longer to get things done. Overall, it was a good experience and I would go again.

Love the atmosphere, great music and feels like a party. Tried the Carne asada tacos first visit and fell in love. Probably the best Carne asada I've ever tasted! Server's are great and very attentive.
Brenda P
This is the BEST Mexican food place I have eaten at in a long time!! Amazing molé sauce !! The waitress was super nice and helpful and brought out a little sampler plate of the different molé sauces so that we can try them all and pick our favorite. Excellent customer service!! Or part of 6 all raved about their food and the margaritas were sort on and a great price too.
Dayle Scheinman
We went to the other Red Iguana first and it was a long wait so we ended up at 2. Enjoyed the atmosphere and beer while we waited for about 20 minutes. Service had it's good and poor moments. Our waiter would disappear for long stretches of time. Our food was good and I thought at it's price point, was a good value.
JR Plotts
Amazing service, and even more amazing food. I ordered enchiladas, and they were bomb.com. definitely recommend. Wish they were in my home town!
luie boss
Food is amazing, again this is base on the state of the food have gone twice, and the Plate come cold 🥶 as Togo orders , had to reheat, for better experience go inside set down and eat enjoy the atmosphere, do there has to be a better way to keep food warm for to go orders.
Kendra Nuttall
Can't believe I've lived in SLC all my life without trying this! Completely deserves the hype. Order the mole sampler, it's not on the menu, but it's a free plate of every mole sauce so you can find your favorite.
Mikella Bean
Love red iguana! I try to eat here any time I'm in SLC. Short drive from the airport and downtown.
Highly recommend anything with green mole!
Jesse Derks
Not a quiet place, but fits the atmosphere. The restaurant is very clean and they have an extra parking lot. This is important because they are pretty busy! A very good experience.
Food: I requested the Red Iguana combo platter. All in all very good, with some very tasty, well prepared, tasty (yes again) meat. Actually everything was dang tasty, but the taco stands out. However, on the combo plate, I can say the tortilla is vulnerable to falling apart. The tostada was also good, lots of fresh greens, and marinated meat.
Drink: I had a mojito and it’s not a difficult drink to make. They did well, and I’d guess the mint was either fresh or a close facsimile. Rich flavor
Staff: Extremely polite, and professional. I was just sitting at the counter. No real delay even being a bit busy.
Stephen Smith
This is the best Mexican restaurant in Utah hands-down. Their food is so good they have a second restaurant a block away called Red Iguana. Please know if this place is crowded you should just head over there because the food and menu is identical. The big difference is the atmosphere. This location feels like a modern restaurant while Red Iguana 1 has a nice old charm.
If you love moly that is what they are famous for but if you get anything there it’s going to be delicious.
Eduardo Anaya
We were looking for a place to eat authentic Mexican food and let me tell you about this place, it is amazing. Not only is the time acceptable but the food is amazing. The prize is bang for your buck because it is a big portion and all the plates are like. You should definitely check it out they have an amazing taste of flavors.
Chris D
Driving through and stopped for takeout bed on reviews. Wow, excellent! Huevos Rancheros, mole verde and chili colorado burritos were all fantastic. Service was great too!
Nelson Roman
This is the best Of all the red iguanas. Always have a great time and great food. There is plenty if room in the bar, so if don't like waiting, Go straight to the bar and have some drinks and appetizer until you get called.
Brian Hicks
This is an SLC classic and is always fantastic food. Their mole selection is wonderful and delicious. We always enjoy bringing visitors here to enjoy.
U. Speckman
Loved the Red Pipian Mole! It is a lot of food, so I definitely took part of it home with me in a box. The flavour is fantastic and it made a great lunch as leftovers the next day with tortilla chips.
Joanna Champion
I enjoyed dinning here, definitely had to wait to be seated and am not upset I had too. The food is so delicious come try!
Bren Haas
Traveling from west coast heading to see the arch’s national park when I searched for Mexican restaurant. Red Iguana 2 came up with great reviews. I am thrilled we stopped because the manager was AWESOME - gave us some tips on what to see in this region. The food was wonderful - they only heave tamales on the weekend so I missed it but that’s ok! House margarita A+ flavor and be careful they don’t slack on the liquor. Rice had some small veggies it it ( love - so fresh). My husband and I split a 3 taco special they had - plenty of food! See photos and don’t forget to try the fried ice cream - it was actually fried like a burrito - FABULOUS flavor with coconut and cinnamon . Note we travel in a 25 ft RV which was easy to park on street right out front! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ experience.
Erik Tseng
Great food, good atmosphere and a very family friendly restaurant. The service is fast and friendly. Now my only complaint is the long wait times. There is usually a long line out the door, we had to wait 45-1hr for a table of 3.
The food itself was good but honestly I didn't think it was worth the near 1 hour wait to get seated. I got ramons famous fish tacos and the flavor was quite delicious. It was perfectly cooked and tender. The flavor with the pickled slaw, dill cucumber sauce and a hit of lime was awesome. The side of mexican rice was good too.
Overall I would probably come back if I make a reservation ahead of time.
J Aaron Hales
Great food and atmosphere. First time here since the remodel. Same great food and service. Friday night meant a long wait to get in, even with only 2,but the food came out incredibly fast.
Amir Shevat
We came here after a long drive from Yellowstone and we really enjoyed the place. The service is fast and friendly. The dishes are big enough to share but also flavorful and authentic. The atmosphere is very Mexican and it generally seems like an awesome place for late dinner.
Tim S
Yes, driving through the city to get here and wait 30 mins to sit was worth it. This place was busy for a reason. It was delicious!!! I ordered a favorite dish and it was so amazing! Ensure you request a reservation and be prepared to search for a parking spot. There are heat laps while waiting so you won’t get too cold during winter times. Great drink selection. Also masks are required while walking around and not seated so come prepared. Great experience and service was stellar. Thanks will refer and return.
Sam Sachs
I consider myself a mole connoisseur, and I always order it if I happen to find a restaurant that has the sauce on their menu. As I was traveling through Salt Lake, I noticed that Red Iguana had a whole variety of mole on their menu, so I had to try it. And I'm super glad I did! This was by far some of the best mole I've had anywhere. The sauce is super rich, the chicken was incredibly tender, and the portion size was huge! Do yourself a favor and try the mole here, you'll definitely walk away impressed.
Kevin Burge
Had the Chile Relleno. It was really good, but more sweet than spicy for my taste. Service was great! Atmosphere was good too.
Keyana Beamon
The food was absolutely fantastic. The waiter had great customer service, he recommended a few dishes and even gave us samples. I went with what he recommended and I was blown away. I am from VA, so if I ever come back to UTAH, I will gladly come back to this place!
Greg Wright (SnapJag)
Great place to eat. This is a second spot of the original Red Iguana. Same great staff, service, and food. I love everything they serve. My favorite are enchiladas, like the enchiladas suisse. One of my favorites. This is a larger venue with more seating and less of a wait because of that. I dare you to not try this place. Fantastic place, never a disappointment with the Red Iguana brand.
Mike Blasi
Less crowded and more modern atmosphere compared to original location. Amazingly flavorful carnitas and perfectly seasoned chunky guacamole were the stars of the meal. A large variety of mole choices to fit every taste from sweet to spicy. Carne asada steak was a lower quality cut, bland, and had a puddle of water underneath. Spot on service. Slightly above average prices for Mexican food but better quality.
Deana Piotrowski (HopenJacksmom)
I've never been disappointed at this location. Great chips and salsa, enjoyed a few types of enchiladas and my mom had the shrimp quesadilla. Our waitress was so funny. I will always go here for excellent mexican food.
Loren Todd Lyon
Everything we had here was spectacular! Highly recommend the guacamole. It's very creamy and delicious. The Ramon Jr was really great. The cole slaw was very different and tasty. Overall a great experience! Will definitely return!
Clint Morris
The best Mexican food in Utah! Sorry, was that too bold? You name it and they have it and it’s good. Try their sampler of moles. The traditional enchiladas are the perfect combination of spice and heat. The service is friendly and attentive. The rice and beans are authentically cooked along with the tortillas. Just go... 👍🇲🇽 …
Whatever Whenever
Great food at a decent price. They are really busy so dont expect to be out in under an hour. The staff are friendly and provide great customer service. However if you sit at the bar add a 15-20 more minutes as the service there is a little slower. Absolutely fantastic food though.
Joe Romero
As a connoisseur of good food, I had high expectations of this place. I have heard many good stories of the food here. I was not disappointed. I ordered the Huevos Motuleños. Oh my.... Talk about a dish that hit all the feel good moments of eating. Perfect through and through. I definitely recommend this place.
Lisa Lake
After a long day of driving, cane to our favorite place in SLC. They got us right in to the bar and had wonderful service from Viktor, what a treat! He made our night
Tabitha Borland
Red Iguana is always a good idea & a must try if you love Mexican food!
I absolutely love the tacos la iguana. They are unexplainably good I get them every time! I recently tried the queso too and YUM that’s the new regular appetizer! You can never go wrong with a jalapeño margarita there either. They’re ALWAYS spicy & delicious.
Absolutely love this spot! But be warned parking is pretty wild & it’s usually quite busy BUT 100% worth the wait!!
@hhungryhhomies
Amanda Alba
The food here was delicious. There were so many options to eat from and after taste testing from the other plates in my party any option would not be disappointing. I would recommend eating here again if only there was one back in my home state.
Carlos Bayne
After reading dozens of positive reviews, we decided to try it out. The original location was closed and has been closed due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. We found their 2nd location was open and nearby! We were greeted immediately, and seated quickly during a midweek lunch rush.
Our server, Juan, was awesome. Every detail taken care of in a happy way. My Mole Coloradito was heaven on a plate.
My Pepino margarita was smooth and tasty! My sister and I loved this place so much we even bought T-shirts. We never do that!
Daren Jones
This was my second time going to the Red Iguana 2. We had a group of 6 and we called ahead to see what the wait would be, they told us 25 minutes. When we got there we asked how long the wait would be and they told us an hour. We decided to stay, it was a little frustrating. The Chips and salsa were amazing! We were so hungry that we went through 4 baskets of chips. They kept our drinks filled. I got the 2 carne asada burritos enchilada style. They were good, not my favorite but they were good. My wife got the carne asada tacos and she let me try one of those and it was good as well. Then I was also able to try a fish taco, which was my favorite. All in all a 4 star experience. I would go back for the fish tacos.
Taylor S
I came into this restaurant hungry, tired, and in pain. I probably want the nicest initially, but the staff was super great, going above and beyond for what could’ve been a short interaction to make my day a little better.
Kristi Sarchi
I stop at the Red Iguana every time I visit Utah carried it never disappoints. Ask for a sampler are they mole sauces. Sweet, Savory, or spicy. They have it all. Had a super fantastic waiter named Bryan. I like this new edition and waiting area outside.
Sofi Zingoni
The food is excellent as always, it never disappoints us but this time I have to mention the exceptional service of a waitress named Sarah, very attentive and friendly. highly recommended!
Nancy Barahona
Visited for the first time and it was alright. I appreciated the waiter brought me a plate with a taste of the moles. I had, sopa de queso, chile verde, y mole amarillo. Jalapeño margarita was very tasty.
Helen Hoang
Carnitas plate was delicious. Comes with tortillas to wrap like a taco. Plenty of meat. The Conchinita pibil was also super flavorful albeit not as much protein as the carnitas. The guac is nice too. I took my boyfriend here and he said its one of the best Mexican food he had. We are from California and still love this place. Service was good and enjoyed my meal. You can reserve online.
Brenda Fuller
Terrific food, loved the Red Iguana combo dish! Easy to find from the airport and good sized parking lot.
Mario Cristiani 2
Stopped here on a business trip. The Red Iguana has a legendary status among visitors to Salt Lake City so we had to make a stop. The Tacos Don Ramon were amazing. Best Mexican food I have had outside of California and price wasn’t bad either. Highly recommend.
Leah Hendrick
Great service and delicious food. I had the mango enchilada and chili verde burrito and they had amazing flavors. Their lime daiquiri was yummy but not frozen/blended like I expected. But that was ok. This was my husband's and my second time coming. We loved it the first time we drove through SLC in October 2020 and had to have it again when getting stranded on our way to Austin, TX.
1000% recommend trying this place!
Rick Pasler
Incredible mole ! This is a must for travelers. You will be completely overwhelmed by the fantastic the food, art, and atmosphere. There is a second parking lot east, and there is a good chance for a wait to be seated. Enjoy !!!
Jeff Hayes
Always busy. Got there at 11:30 and the line was forming. I've walked away at least twice before, because I did not have the time to wait. Today, we sat at the counter, got quick service. We had chicken enchiladas and huevos rancheros. Both very good. It is worth the hype but a quick bite is not something they are able to offer.
Deborah Stewart
I will ALWAYS make it to this place when I visit Utah. Their mango enchiladas are killer but my go to dish is usually the Amarillo Mole. It's authentic Mexican and the cocktails are also fabulous. Thanks guys!!
J C Mcguirk Jr
Consistently great Mexican cuisine but you really should try one of the mole dishes while here 😋 There can be a bit of a wait, especially on weekends, but they now have a reservation option online.
Ryan Allen
Excellent authentic Mexican food. The menu is full of options. Plenty to choose from. I haven't tried anything here that I didn't like.
Marc de Schweinitz
Now, you just wait one second, young man! Not that kind of second, silly 😜. The second, as in the second season of Cobra Kai, or more literally the second Red Iguana location. Was all of that rhetoric and punnery really necessary? Are a dozen different types of mole's (Mexican sauces of nuts and chocolate) necessary? No. No. No. THAT, is why they are so captivating and wonderful. Reach beyond the necessary. Enter Red Iguana, 1 or 2. They're both "the real dealio." Gracias Senorita.
Edward Hudson
Like the catering truck says "Killer Mexican Food" The food is authentic delicious and definately from deep into Mexico. They make seven different Moles, all awesome. I had the Chili Colorado, it was savory and spicy. Highly recommend this food.
Jessica Brown
Get. The. Mole. Sampler.
That suggestion has changed my dining experience there. I always thought Red Iguana was great, but trying each of those mole sauces and having them over tamales has made me CRAVE it! Sooooo good. Hubby loves the salsa. We usually end up getting a container of it to go.
Jonathan Davis
While visiting SLC I kept hearing about this restaurant. I went early to avoid the long waits I've heard happen frequently here. That's usually a good sign that people are willing to wait for food cause it must be good.
The restaurant was just starting to fill up but I got in right away and the waiter was promptly at the table. Food was great, the reviews weren't wrong, the staff was excellent, but the flies, oh man the flies....
I understand it's summer and doors are open etc but I'm not talking about 1 or 2 flies, I had to wave away 6-8 flies CONSTANTLY, to the point where I would have them land on my hand while trying to take a bite.
Deb Lorance
Good food, great service. A friendly place. Very clean and appealing. Enjoyed the drinks and the food.
John Beck
My wife and I split the mango enchiladas (w/ mango mole) and Ramon's fish tacos. Both were incredible.
Krishna Seemanapalli
We went with a big party. The food was fresh and tasted good. Make reservations because the place is busy. The staff was friendly. They have a bar next to dining area. Great place to visit with a big group.
Jodi Bogue
Best burrito i ever had! I dont remember the name but it had shredded beef, bell pepper, onion and scrambled eggs. Can't wait to visit Salt lake city again!
Jason Cicero
The only thing better than the staff (who were constantly assisting each other and making us feel welcome) is the food (which envelops you with a warmth and happiness from the aroma through the taste buds). A 'must go' on our itinerary every time we come to Salt Lake City!
scott wuest
The restaurant took good care of a large group Tuesday for dinner.
Decent beer selection. Good margaritas.
Killer Nachos were good but needed more pork and Chile Verde.
Service was great.
Alyssia Trimble
Visiting from Texas. We were pleasantly surprised. Food was good! Glad we have it a try.
Maryanna Cruz
Not really any Vegan options. Staff was kind. Service was not consistent. Waited 15 minutes for my check. It was packed. Parking was limited if you didn't use valet parking, that was free, but I tip, so it wasn't. However it's in an area you want your car being watched. Cool Iguana outside that my daughter loved and was excited to touch. Kind of cool having a train go by, gave her something else to talk about and enjoy.
Laurence Burton
Without a doubt, the best Mexican food in Salt Lake! The moles are so rich and flavorful I recommend starting with their mole sampler as a taste test to find which one suits your pallette. My favorite is their spicy mole amarillo. They will prepare the entree you select with the mole you prefer. Wait times can be long but the experience is well worth the savory meal! Plus, the mix some mean margaritas!
Richard Beesley
Excellent food matched with a really groovy environment. Our server was very friendly meeting and anticipating all our needs. I had the mole nergo which is phenomenal, it is liquid ecstacy that costs your mouth with tender caresses of flavor. I recommend you try this place it is always less crowded than the original.
Mustafa Bulent Igdelioglu
Ceviche had a nice kick to it. If you like spicy food, strongly recommend it. Service was fast, staff was friendly.
Travis Cox
Food was excellent all around. Service was great. Atmosphere was cool and clean.
California Bred Louisiana Fed
The Food as well & the Atmosphere was Pretty Spot on. The Food was Hot & Fresh. The Portion sizes were more than to be accepted. The service was Awesome & Fast/Accurate. I was Amazed by The Price dinner for two including drinks was less than $30.00. If I lived in Utah I would be a Regular for SURE!
Scott Conder
Great food and excellent service! The shredded beef chimichanga was very delicious. Our server was awesome.
I highly recommend eating here. Just note that the parking lot is small. You may end up parking down the road.
Steve D
Delicious and fast. My Carne Asada Burrito was tender and tasty and my wife's Chicken Enchilada Suiza was excellent, especially the mole sauce (which is available for purchase).
Mark Reynolds
The food is good. They got the food out to us quickly. Just a pointer make shore you like the sauce that will be on your food . I would have given them 5 stars but the waitress didn't check back and I was out of water and she never refilled it.
Paul Nguyen
This is a stellar restaurant with awesome staff. I usually get a few pina coladas and wash it down with my wife's margaritas.
Theresa Ikeda
Amazing food. Great staff. Huge menu hard to choose. Will need to return to try more dishes
Edward K
I’ve been to Salt Lake City twice in my life. The trips were five years apart. I went to Red Iguana both times. The first because it was recommended, the second because of my visit the first time. The food and the service are amazing. Read the statement in the menu - they want you to feel like family. If you’re in SLC, Red Iguana 2 is a don’t miss.
Theodore Liou
They have a large variety of great dishes with mole sauces I had huevos motulenos which is terrific and unique for restaurants in the area. Service is terrific. The only negative are long wait times when they’re busy.
Lydia Grey
Amazing food as always, but disappointed with the service as it took literally an hour to get our food. I do appreciate how they handled our frustration. I’ve been coming to this establishment for the last 10+ years so was pretty shocked to say the least. Ill still be coming back for that sunrise burrito 😌
Jay Kuhn
I heard from a friend I needed to visit this place. It did not disappoint. The special sauce was amazing. We sat on the patio and enjoyed the view. Chicken Chimichanga was delicious! Flautas and Guacamole Tostada's too..
Jennifer M
I love this location! It’s much more spacious. I love sitting outside to see the trains. The staff is great and the food is so delicious! My favorite dessert is the fried ice cream.
Michael Bunker
As a Texan I was wary about eating Mexican food in Utah. No worries. This place is really good. Enjoyed the evening!
Robyn Ivins
The mango mole enchiladas are the absolute best!! Great service every time we go! It's awesome that they've expanded the restaurant and doubled the space. Great news for Red Iguana lovers!!
Saramay Dennison
Had the enchilada potosina. Was warned they aren't like regular enchiladas but they still sounded yummy. They were so good. I got it with a side of sour cream because I thought they might be spicy. They were pretty mild. But oh so good.
Ryan Oakey
I've been going to Red Iguana for years. With the exception of this most recent visit, they've always 5 stars across the board, excellent food, drink, and service. That said, we moved away for a few years and when we came back last week, I was disappointed to find that they've stopped making their own horchata. The horchata we were served was a watered-down mix, this doesn't bode well. I really hope they haven't reduced the quality of their food. I'll give them 4 stars for now, if I go back to find they've started cutting corners in other areas as well, I may be updating to 3 stars.
Bob Westwood
All the reviews were right. Excellent food and busy as heck. We took a Lyft from downtown for about $6. Waited about 20 minutes and had some of the best Mexican food ever.
My Mom usually orders Chile Verde and she said it was the best she has had. I went with the Carnitas as it said it was prepared with milk, beer and orange pulp (among other unusual ingredients). Made for a very mellow taste.
My son went with the Chile Colorado burritos. An order includes two burritos, so we figured they would be small. They weren't (see picture). The sauce was absolutely incredible, unlike any I have tasted.
Rebecca Ind
Absolutely delicious! Went to both the original location and #2 in my short visit - all moles are superb, staff are friendly, and they serve large portions 👌
Christina Dunsmore
Great experience. Staff was all very welcoming and helpful. Drinks were amazinggg! Had a strawberry daiquiri and a piña colada. Food was also amazing! I do eat meat, but stay away from it at times. It was nice to see that their nachos had a vegetarian option, which I went with. I was able to modify my food with no issues! I'm not a spice lover, so I just removed the jalapeños. Their salsa is amazing and tastes so fresh. Highly recommend.
Kevin Denos
Really good food and the atmosphere is awesome. The staff was very friendly and helpful, it was really busy and they stayed on top of everything! Definitely recommend this place!
Kathryn Twichell
It was a good time! Great food, service and prices!
Ryan Stevenson
Great food. Chile Verde is always a solid choice, sure to not disappoint. I’ve always enjoyed whatever I’ve ordered. Try to Time it when it’s not too busy.
Emily Galicia
Nice place! They have the best steak I have tried in a long time. They also offer a plate of mole samples. They’re so yummy
Ben Ward
Great food, fun atmosphere, good service and quick food prep time despite every seat in the house being filled. The wait to get in is crazy though. I went solo so I was able to be seated quickly, however I saw others waiting from when I arrived to when I left.
zi yan lim
Ordered the Red Iguana classics (beef and pork on almond mole) to go, $19.54 after tax. Loved that they packed each item in the dish separately (see photo). It tasted good and definitely worth the price. There was a crowd waiting in line at 6+pm on a Sunday, do factor in queue time!
christopher stuber
Best sit down Mexican food in salt lake. Love the tacos don Ramón and
Scott Mercier
Both locations packed with people wating outside in the cold for a reason. Delicious food, great service in a warm atmosphere. This place is legit!
John Paul Sherratt
Food here is always amazing! Had the weekend special. Chicken enchilada with strawberry mole sauce. Was different but still very tasty and filing!
Valentin
Friendly staff. Their chips and salsa was so good I had to refrain myself from eating too much before I got my food. The Don Ramon tacos were delicious.
Chris Carlisle
This was our second visit to the Red Iguana while passing through Salt Lake City. We have yet to find a comparable restaurant in our travels, great staff and great food!
Jason Lee
Solid solid spot for Mexican food. I recommend the carne asada burritos with chile verde
Danielle McConnell
Everything there was super spicy, even after I asked the waiter if the dish was spicy and he said no it came put so spicy I was only able to eat one bite. Pretty bad when you leave a restaurant and you're still hungry...
Bryan Kerr
Red Iguana is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. On our latest trip one of our meals took quite a while to come out even beyond everybody else's and they gave it to us on the house. They even threw in a free plate of sopapillas! If you're a fan of delicious Mexican food don't miss Red Iguana.
Sergio Q
Im in town for buisness and had heard about this place on YouTube. Well i had to try it out to see what the big deal is. As I drove in I noticed that this was a big place and couldn't find parking on the main parking lot but lucky for me they have extra parking a little down the street. I walked in and amediatly smelled the seasonings of home. They have a wide variety of dishes from traditional to seafood but was very interested in trying their "MOLE". I ordered a yellow or "Amarillo" with corn tortillas, beans and rice. I diped my spoon in and tasted the mole for flavor. I found a mosiac of flavors filling my senses this was hand made, I could tell and was impressed with the level of work that they put into the MOLE. I also ordered a sample plate of abot 6 moles and I was also impressed by the level of taste in all of them. Overall i was very impressed with the service and attention to detail of the servers that worked at the level of a high dinning restaurant. The MOLE was very good but they lost a point with the chiken. I would have preferred the traditional way of cooking it wich is one whole leg and thigh. But overall was very good.
Lisa Aase
Most amazing food ever! A large variety of menu items. I would happily eat here every day.
Sara Anderson
I love Red Iguana! Miguel was our server tonight and I know I say this every time but the service and my quesadilla was the best it’s ever been!
Manuel Gonzalez Lozon
Real Mexican food in a great atmosphere! Loved the nachos and the Don Ramos tacos. Service was great. And very close to the city centre!
Joash Narainsamy
This place is legendary in Salt Lake City and rightfully so. The food is good, portions are huge and the service is quick and friendly.
If you've never had mole before, get the mole sampler and tuck in with some tortilla chips.
I had the chilaquiles and LOVED it! It's a dish big enough to share with another two people.
Shelly Milne
Food, always good, service, we've had better, atmosphere, like any other crowded restaurant
65Keny
Food is on point every time we go. I tried a breakfast dish for lunch and was blown away how good it is. I don’t recall the name of the dish but it’s a pork that is a delicious sauce topped with 2 poached eggs and bacon. Literally what more could you ask for in a meal 10/10
J Okada
I had been in SLC for less than two days and had heard people recommending Red Iguana about 15 times, so naturally I had to try it.
First: expect a long wait. I came on a Tuesday at 6pm and the place was packed.
Second: Being from San Jose, California, I've eaten way too much Mexican food. I can say this: Red Iguana is better than most I've had, at least comparing what I had to Red Iguana. I can only speak for the cochinita pibil. It was fantastic. Do it.
Lauren Maiman
Wow! Everything looked awesome and tasted even better. There was a wait at Red Iguana, so we walked over to Red Iguana 2 (maybe a 7 min walk?) and got seated right away. Yum yum yum.
Christopher Gillespie
The Chile Verde and Chile Relleno where tops. Top Mexican food around, fast service and worth any type of wait. Don't be that guy and get fajitas here...try something new.
Tim Card
Had the lamb shank special. Delicious and well cooked. I don't know if the sauce the dish was prepared with is very complimentary to the protein used. Always excellent quality food.
Phsycahtic Fox
Service was above and beyond even for a busy night. Servers were extremely nice and friendly. And the food was out of this world good. This was my first time and definitely will not be my last
Andrew Graham
We went at a less busy hour and were seated promptly and received our food quickly. High quality food and very healthy portion sizes! Especially enjoyed their salsa. Highly recommended, and friendly to gluten-intolerance or other allergies!
Stefania Barr
THE place for mole dishes. Just phenomenal flavors. Great, accommodating service for a large group size, too.
Stan Breon
Love RI II. Great atmosphere, food is good, service is great. Always first stop when leaving the airport while visiting SLC. And a cold Jalisco, please.
Danielle R
This place is awesome and just around the corner from the original red iguana. I would say if one is crowded try the other. We sat on the patio and it was lovely. The service was amazing as well. We were able to get a mole sampler and try all the different flavors, even though we did not see it on the menu. Margaritas were also fabulous. This is a must visit if in the Salt Lake area.
Emerald Shadows
Good service tasty food. I had gringas with cheese and the guacamole was yummy.
IRaceFormula
Came with the father-in-Law from Boise, Idaho to enjoy RI2. (Red Iguana 2.) Being a native to Utah for 32 years, now living in Idaho for the last 3 years, I was very familiar with RI. My father-in-Law has been to the first RI many years ago, but had a real itch to try RI2. I too have never been to RI2, so I was up to the challenge. I ordered the “Gringa,” which is very similar to a regular fajita. The RI2 has an awesome, new flare to it, compared to RI. The food tasted the same to me as RI (as expected.) Still great food. I would recommend RI2 as a secondary alternative to RI. We will be coming back when we visit Utah again.
Lance Nielson (Frank the Tank)
Loved the atmosphere with the train going by, reminded me of parts of my childhood. The food was pretty good too. Will go back for sure.

One bartender working the bar area on a Friday night for some reason. Other patrons reported waiting half an hour standing in line at the bar for a drink. A 45 minute wait for first available for two sucks enough. Even worse when the bar can’t figure out how to get drinks to those waiting.
I originally gave 1 star for the above but have revised it to three based on the quality and price of the food. The alcohol was a little pricey, but I’m happy to say the wait for a drink was nothing compared to at the bar.
carlos chavez
Got the two shredded chicken burritos that came with some red sauce covering them. Honestly tasted like tomato soup no real spice at all and i thought the plates came with rice and beans but apparently not.
Robert Williams
We sat on the covered patio as the snow fell, we were warm and cozy.
I loved it.
Matthew Wilson
Ambiance is very cool. Moles are unique and varied. It’s funny to say but the refried beans are amazing! I would go back just for the beans.
Bryan
The food here is good and I've been many times but it's no where near the level of hype it receives.
Tayson Jensen
Pretty darn good place. Wasn't blown away by the taste, hence the 4-star, but, hey I'd eat here again.
Only got pictures of the desserts, whoops hehe
Black Bart
Holy Reptilian Lips, Batman! What a taste treat this was. Visited around 1330 when the lunch crowd was thinning out. Seated immediately and chips and salsa brought. Order (Mole' Pablano) was taken and served in 5 minutes. Mole' is interesting as it combines chocolate sweetness with pepper heat. These two forces were combined well in this dish. I ordered my favorite dessert, Flan. This can end one of two ways, heaven or he**. In this case the heavenly angel iguana choir sang a spectacular choral arrangement while my taste buds provided backup. The syrup was tart in a way that was subtle, slowly dancing it's way up the sensory receptors of my tongue. The strawberries a great addition to this fine dessert.
The floors and vents were clean. The porcelain units in the restroom were clean, the chrome fixtures polished, and my shoes didn’t stick to the floor (trust me, it happens).
This was a very pleasant dinning experience. One I will do again.
Jason Gallo
Haven't been here in awhile but they now have an expanded restaurant area and parking lot. The food here is incredible; no wonder it's consistently voted #1 Mexican food. My favorite meal has always been the tacos a la iguana.
Eric Clayton
Don Ramon tacos are the best in the State. Be ready to wait for a table because they are extremely popular but worth the time to wait if you plan accordingly.
Scott Webb
Always great food! Make reservations, it's always busy. We ate at 4:30 and it was already nearly full
Rachel Helling
Best Mexican food in salt lake city! This second location is very spacious and you are less likely to have a long wait. The staff is very friendly and prompt. Excellent cocktails, too!
Jannean Dixon, M.Ed.
We had a great meal here! Our family of ten all liked their meals. The waiter was fantastic! Highly recommend!
Rochelle Stephan
Miguel was amazing! Definitely made the experience better than expected. The food was superb! Will be coming back here again and again. Very vegetarian friendly!!!!
Aaron “Roadkill” Saxon
One of the more popular places in Salt Lake for some of the best Mexican food you will ever have. This place is busy most of the time, so I definitely suggest a reservation. They were able to handle our large party of around 20 people. Complimentary chips and salsa to start. The drinks were fantastic, plenty of tequila based margaritas and daiquiris to choose from. If you want variety and to play it safe, then aim for a combo plate. It is also fun to branch off and try different dishes. On this particular trip I went with the mango enchiladas, skipped the beans and rice (which are good!) in order to save room for the fried ice cream. Quite a few nice dessert choices as well and I will probably continue to leave room for dessert so I can try them all too!
Marko Santiago
The food was great they were really fast employees were professional I would recommend to anyone can't wait to go back
Nick Butterfield
The waiterss was excellent, the food was a little less than I expected. The atmosphere was cold and not welcoming.
Rakesh Vinnakota
I have heard lots of great things about this restaurant before, and finally got a chance to experience this place. I loved it. The sauces sampler was amazing to get to taste all the moles. Their guacamole is Soo fresh and delicious. I ordered mango enchiladas and they were super. Overall it was a great ambience and a fantastic taste.
Recommended - take reservation.
Parking would be a huge problem, you will most likely end up parking outside, a little far.
B Jones
Best Mexican food in Utah! Could be the best Mexican food ever! The Chile Verde is to die for!
Ruben Borboa
Heard a lot of good things about this places by wife the service, food, and prices where all decent. Definitely worth a try.
Mel Rowan
Had a large group so it definitely took around an hour to get seated on a Saturday, but the food was well worth it. Great prices, extensive menu, and clearly labeled for those with dietary restrictions. Would definitely recommend for freshly made Mexican food. Get the freshly made corn tortillas!
Joey Sanchez
This place is always amazing. The food & service are top notch! Best Mexican food in Utah hands down. That's why there is usually a wait to get in. Good news is they are now taking reservations for most days so if you plan ahead there isn't a wait. Highly recommend either location but location 2 is alot more open&alot less claustrophobic. Enjoy
Alma Rock
All their dishes are amazing. The shrimp quesadilla is a meal in itself.
George Strong
Very good food, service, and atmosphere. Parking can be an issue but the walk will be worth it if the first two lots are full.
J Rice
Great shrimp enchilada off the menu. Waiter had it made up special. Very good!
Carleigh-Anne Anderson
Delicious food and affordable prices! There is almost always a long wait but it's a fun environment.
Robby Timmons
Excellent variety of unique dishes and staple dishes. The prices reflect the quality and the portions are reasonable. It is worth taking the opportunity to go when you are in SLC.
Sarah Ward
Attended a work holiday party at Red Iguana 2. The staff was friendly and efficient. The food was good.
Marshall W
Red Iguana never disappoints. Huevos motuleños (and everything else) are always top notch!
Michael McDaniel
Out of this world Mole!!! And they were all so kind. They even let me switch the enchilada sauce for Mole. Mouth is watering talking about it again. Thanks For the experience Red Iguana.
Amanda Castillo
The food was delicious. We arrived a half hour before closing time and they didn't rush us at all.
Kami Huntsman
Best Mexican food! The salsa is a little spicy for mild. Love the Mango enchiladas and Pollo tacos. Guacamole is also amazing! Service can be good, we've only had 1 SLOW waiter that never brought refill drinks or extra chips. They have Pepsi products.
adrian richardson
Love this place! Whenever I'm in SLC I try to eat here at least once. If you have a large group location 2 is you're best bet for getting a seat fast. Also get the most you won't be disappointed!
JL C
Good Mexican food, good vlue for money and friendly service.
Selea Kerr
They always have delicious food and great service! The parking lot fills up fast, but they have an additional parking lot just down the road on the east side.
Colin
I ate here while passing through town. I had a burrito and it was really great. Service was awesome. The waiter was just the right amount of attentive. Everyone was friendly. I'd love to stop in again if I'm ever in the area.
Judy H
Omg - I never had such delicious mole sauce. I had the enchiladas suizas, my friend had the mole verde. Good service, fair pricing, nice atmosphere.
L Sirman
Excellent food, service, menu & atmosphere! Plan on a wait at busy times but worth it. My first time and the shrimp dish with tortillas, rice & beans was excellent. Can’t wait to go back with a group and try much more.
Neil Howell
Very good food and service. I had the plablano plate.
Emily Beans
Great food! I cannot say enough about how yummy the food was. The service just as yummy! This particular bartender took so much time with me to explain their sauces and what goes good with what. What an experience!!!
Abbie Smith
Super yummy food! Great salsa and very friendly staff
Eric Envick
Best mole I've had in years.
The salsa is amazing. Bought 2 quarts to bring home.
Dishes I have never heard of also amazing.
You should make this a destination stop.
Amar
My goodness. This was probably the best Mexican food I've ever had. This was the greatest meal I've had in a long while. It was beyond worth the wait and the food was just amazing
B
Great food. Super busy, ugh, on a Tuesday night. They won't even let you wait at the bar while you wait for a table! Our server was very nice but not attentive to drinks. I kept asking for water (waited 20 min twice with an empty glass) and ordered a specialty drink but found it impossible to order another.
Sheri Beri
It seems like people either love or hate this place. lol Anyway, I love the food here. They always start you off with free chips and salsa. My favorite thing to get is the Gringas with Molé Verde. They carry a few Epic beers which is fantastic. Have one of those or a margarita with your meal.
Terry Wallace
Enjoyed the red iguana plate
molly christie
We arrived at about 530 and only had to wait for 15 minutes which was the perfect amount of time to meet the amazing iguana outside. We loved our food and the cadillac margaritas are so good that after one sip we ordered another round!
Joshua Dunn
There was a forty five minute wait for lunch on a wednesday.
Although my family loved the food, my wife and I were not impressed by the eighteen dollar Red Iguana plate. It had variety, but everything was swimming in their red sauce and I didn't like everything tasting the same because of this. Probably not worth the eighteen dollars. I didnt expect to be disappointed by a meal named after the restaurant and one of the priciest meals on the menu.
We might come by again and try something else and ask to hold off on the sauce.
Megan Hancock
The best authentic Mexican food I’ve ever had! The environment is so welcoming and feels so homey. The food is beyond amazing, would recommend it to anyone! My one complaint is parking is very limited, but we parked down the street which worked.
Brianna Jaime
Food is whatever and service is fine, I'm sure there are better Mexican restaurants in the city. It's a nice building though and they have a huge iguana you can take a picture with.
jeffrey wood
Visiting Salt Lake City and ordered take out from here on a recommendation. And it didn't disappoint! Friendly staff and incredible menu. Take out was really good even after a half hour before eating. Can't imagine how good it would be eating in!
Can't wait to try this place again!
Agustin Diaz
Very good Mexican restaurant. Love their music (mostly Puertorrican and Colombian singers, but awesome hits! The beer selection is quite impressive too. The food selection is spectacular too, with many selection of mole!
House Full Of Boys
Took my hubby for Father’s Day today. Had to wait a bit. But once seated our service and food was spot on. Boys and I got the flautas and hubby got the smothered burritos. Very delicious.
Luanne Ashcraft
Always amazing! So many mole choices, great service!
Joe Ferreira
MOLE MOLE MOLE! This place has 8 house-made moles. After sampling all the incredible moles, I ended up with the carnitas in the coloradito mole and it was fantastic.
Louis Hillier
The food was great! The server was awesome and the atmosphere was nice. The place was pretty clean.
I loved the attention our server gave. She was very attentive and kind.
Tabitha Carr
Amazing experience sitting on the patio. Great safety practices and food beyond exception. I definitely recommend it for others who have the privilege of being in Salt Lake City.
Tamara Broskey
A favorite stop when in town. The best Mexican food around and the mole is fantastic. If there's a line, wait. Its worth it.
Olivia Graham
I have been coming here for years and have always loved it and usually always try to go for my birthday dinner I haven't been able to go in about a year and a half and I was finally able to go with my fiance yesterday to do my birthday dinner and the guy was not very nice I ordered what I usually always get and he acted irritated and my man asked him what he recommended so he got what he recommended we were sitting at the counter and my man is able to speak and understand stand Spanish and he over heard him talking to the cook saying make it as spicy as you can and after we got are food they sat there and watched him I normally always love it here but the food isn't as flavorful and it actually wasn't really spicy at all like it normally is I hope it can go back to what it used to be it still tasted ok but just not as good I'm hoping it changes soon and we will be in the area to return again soon.
Kathie Hancock
Love the food here. Large menu. Food is served hot and fresh. Spice level of good. Atmosphere is fun. Service is good. Expect a wait, they are busy.
Jason Miller
Love this place! Every bit as good as the original restaurant on North Temple.. their Chile Verde is the best!!
Ali Soberan
Authentic Mexican food, excellent atmosphere and special service with our favorite waitress, with her charisma and kindness without equal!
Vajrang Parvate
We were a very large party (26), but they seated us quickly at 3 tables, served all the food without fuss and the food was delicious.
Adapt Construction & Consulting
All of the Red Iguana locations are perfect places for an evening out with friends and excellent food. I like 2 best because the parking is a little bit easier and it's off the main road. You've got to love the outdoor Shack with heaters to make you comfortable even when there are long lines.
Diana Russell
I really like this restaurant. What makes this place special is the flavors!
I know that a FedEx truck pulls in every Friday with herbs and spices for their extraordinary moles and sauces. A lot of the condiments you are unable to find at the local markets. If you are entrtaining out-of-town guests, this is the place to go. :)
dannyonthenet
Order the puntas de filete a la nortena, you will not regret it. Red Iguana does a great job at preventing cross contamination of gluten for celiacs disease.
Rigoberto Enrique Calderon
Excellent service by Micah, delicious food and tasty beverages! All in a very relaxed and inviting ambiance! We absolutely loved it and will be back next time we're visiting Salt Lake City!
Michael McCarthy
Just as good as red iguana 1. Great food and great service
Unathletic Remi
This is one of the most popular spots in Utah and has been for as long as I’ve lived here. It’s pretty obvious why. Everything I’ve ordered has been pretty excellent.
Carin Whitaker
Great mole and just as good as the original location.
Uodated: September 2022
Had the chicken tacos both traditional and not. So good! Service was excellent. We had a reservation and were seated within a few minutes of arrival. Reasonable prices. Dinner for two with a margarita and a lemonade, two entrees, was $40 before tip.
Will M.
Quickly seated. Our server was amazing. Very attentive and ensured we were happy. Food was very good although it did take quite a while for our entrees to come out.
Kevin Timken
Best mole in the west. The mango.. Poblano... And negro with Mexican chocolate make wonderful sauces with any dish
Virginia Jones
Great food and the server helped me find suitable food for my allergies.
Gary Hawley
Our 30-minute (for a table of eight) wait was actually only about 15. They got orders taken quickly, and it was amazing. The outdoor seating is header and comfortable in the evening. Parking is the trickiest part of an overall excellent experience.
Christi Baum
Very spicy flavor, very good. Carne asada is very well done. I've lived nearby for over 10 years and never been. I wish I hadn't put it off.
Randy Thornhill
Always amazing food coming out of the kitchen. Come for the mole, come back for everything else… you really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. The wait for a table can be long, but always worth it. Pro tip: make a reservation… even on a Monday.
Austin Lindsay
I got a shredded beef and a chicken burrito. Both were delicious, but I’d recommend the chicken. It’s so succulent and tender!
Austin Richards
Awesome experience. I believe my server was Jose (bigger guy with a beard). He was great. Got my drink and entree order right away and everything tasted great. Great service. You can tell he and the kitchen staff works hard.
Andrea Magness
Oh my word.... I DREAM about this restaurant, that's how amazing it was. We had a large party (20 people). I have A LOT of food allergies and the waitress was so patient and helpful. She offered a few different options off the menu that were safe for me to eat, she was very knowledgeable about both food and drink menu. Their margaritas are FANTASTIC. And I definitely recommend the guacamole.
Cheryl Gessler
Second time, for my daughter's birthday, which is currently our favorite experience. The staff, flavors and textures are to die for.
Annie Sisson
My favorite Mexican food in the valley! You can't go wrong with the Cochinita Pibil and a beer. Excellent moles too!
Kimberly Searle
The mole sauces are their "thing". If you are going, don't expect to be wowed by the run of the mill Mexican dishes.... because they are just okay. However, the selection of moles is nice and they really make the dishes they are on memorable. The place was very busy and parking is definitely an issue, so plan accordingly and enjoy.
Seth Whiting
Great Mexican food! Honestly, one of the best Mexican restaurants I've personally found in Utah. The outside ambiance is right next to some train tracks. Though the trains weren't sounding their horns often they were still noticeably loud so outside kind of lacks there. This is mid February and they have a thick plastic separator that allows for the outside dining to have a much more comfortable and warmer experience. Honestly still a very pleasant, fun and tasty experience. I would highly recommend going.
Sergio Garcia
We are from Georgetown Tx , and the food here was soo good , waiter and the lady from give us the chips, lady on the parking everyone really kind people we r coming back delicious molde de mango
Trevor Curzon
Delicious food, friendly service. If you come at lunch time you better get here early. It's such a hot spot you will have to wait if you don't beat the clouds.
Rob Vox
Decent Mexican food, even if you don't like mole!
M SUTTON
Expect at a wait, but it is worth it. Food was great. Ordered the mango mole chicken enchelidas and they were fantastic. Thoroughly enjoyed the "how to pronounce words in spanish" lesson from our server Maverick, who was a hoot.
Harneet Singh
Ambience was good. Ample space for seating both inside and outside. Food was good, presentation could be better
Zarin Subah
So tasty food! and the amount of food is large!!🍽️🍛 …
Roy Snyder
Excellent tasting food. The best mole options you can have.
Logan Whitmore
Parking is my least favorite part, even after its been expanded. They were pretty busy but they have waiting inside and outside which was heated so we were comfortable while waiting. Once it was our turn I noticed they have expanded the seating here alot and its beautiful. We sat on the covered heated porch, again very temp controlled and nice. Our food was a reasonable wait for how busy it was. We got some steak tips with potatoes and a combo plate. Very authentic very delicious!
Erik Kruse
Enchiladas, mole, what more could you want?? The guacamole is also excellent and they give you a good portion for the money. I've loved this place for years and hope it's here for many more years!
Peyton Coats
Incredibly delicious!!! Guacamole was divine! Queso was fantastic! Love the house made chips! And the chicken salad was wonderful! Had great service, also! Waited about 30 minutes and SO worth it!!!
Scott M. Stringham
We love this place and go as often as we can even though we live in Utah Valley. We even got engaged here! I don't think there's a better Mexican restaurant in all of Utah. They're specialty is mole, and they offer a variety. SO. DAMN. GOOD. By the way, there is no discernable difference in the food between the two locations. We prefer #2 only because there is typically a shorter wait, and the dining area is less cramped. WE WANT ONE IN UTAH VALLEY.
Bitun Sen
Red Iguana… this item was really good. Please note: the quantity is quite huge.
Juan Martins Mahon
We have Carne assada and Polo Tacos was amazing food, really delicious. Nice Atmosphere and staff
Cecily Perry
Service was fast and friendly. Constantly made sure we were good on drinks and chips. The atmosphere is casual, friendly and fun.
The food is TO DIE FOR. Nachos, tostadas and taco shells are all homemade. The sauce is very flavorful and yummy. Pretty much everything, even the salsa is homemade.
This has become our favorite resturant for mexican food!
Natasha Beery
We started at the main Red Iguana, but there was a 40 minute wait, and we had a plane to catch, so we were happy to discover this alternative, just a few minutes away, with a shorter wait and outdoor seating. Great food, friendly service, huge portions (we could have shared our mole!)
Nathan Pearl
Amazing food. Ordered the tacos and ate on it for two meals. Would be especially up your alley if you like spice to your dish! Takeout was pretty quick. They had a massive menu with so many selections - it took awhile to find what we wanted! Would recommend to any person passing through SLC as my wife and I were or any local!
jess kraft
delicious!! chile rellenos were sooo good. salsa is fresh and tasty. highly recommend!
Nathan Wright
This is the most authentic Mexican food in Salt Lake City. We've been here many times, and we have never tried anything we didn't like. We recommend the mole. The entomatadas are delicious as are the enchiladas suizas. There is usually a wait to get a table, but it is worth the wait!
Tricia Hill
Hands down best food. Never been disappointed when I eat here.
Michael Elliott
One of the better Mexican restaurants in Utah. Portion sizes are usually way too big but that’s great for leftovers. Lots of great veggie options. Get the mango margarita. This one is always better than the original red iguana because of the shorter wait and better parking. Same exact food quality.
Camie Webb
Love the ambiance, food was great, service was great, company was stellar! Best date night out in a while!
L Hammer
Went to an office lunch. We didn't do a reservation for a Wednesday for a group of 5. So there was about a 15 minute wait. This restaurant is clean and has about half of their seating on the porch. This can be a little noisy as trains rattle by. Docked a ⭐ for noisy location.
Food was good. I had the beef chimichanga. Very tasty and plenty of food. Others had enchiladas, carnitas and can't remember the rest. All were pleased with their meals. Don't think you can go wrong on any of your favorites. 5 ⭐ for food
Service was good. Parking is a little bit of an issue. Over all, next time I take my wife to SLC I will have to take her there for dinner. Good place for a business lunch.
Scott
My favorite Mexican restaurant since the 1980s. Still going strong!
Joseph “Joe” Morott
The food was excellent and the portions were very generous.
Amanda Davis
Food was good, waiter was slow, and we had a really loud train go back and forth 4 times while we ate.
Jen Rein
When the wait was almost an hour at the original Red Iguana, we went around the block to the second one! Great meal! The pibil was delicious & the corn tortillas perfect. Can't wait to go back!
Justin Young
I absolutely love going to Red Iguana. The food is always delicious and the staff is great! They have outdoor seating and a fun atmosphere. I highly recommend eating here.
D H
Pretty decent food selections on the menu. Service was quick and our waitress was attentive. We started off with free chips and salsa. Pictures is the Ramon Jr's Quesadilla San Francisco (both top and bottom). I can understand why this is one of the most highly related Mexican restaurants in the area!
slim pickins
Excellent food and staff ..
J B
4 of us ordered different items and all were delicious. Woukd recommend.
Debbra J Callahan
Food is awesome and very tasty, atmosphere is very comforting with orange and yellows! A color to make you happy and hungry.
James Grant
Living in San Diego our whole life, we have pretty high standards for good Mexican food. This place was amazing! The moles were diverse and delicious. Their typical food items like chill relleno, flautas, cheese enchiladas, quesadilla, and tostadas were all top notch. My favorite was the cheese enchilada because their enchilada sauce was incredible. If you're in Salt Lake City, I highly recommend visiting one of their two locations in the city.
George Christensen
Great food, but $6.50 at a Mexican restaurant for a 12oz Pacifico is absolutely insane.
Stephanie May
The food tasted great, service was amazing, and the portions could've fed a group twice our size. Prices were still reasonable and they were quick too get orders out.
Roberta Sypek
Loved it! Short wait, awesome service, delicious mole. I had the mango enchiladas. They were really delicious. Great ambiance! Thank you!
Gaylene Jones
Average. The queso was cold and separating had to send it back. Still wasn't great when we received it warm. Our tacos were okay. Wouldn't go back.
Rui “Lauren”
The best Mexican restaurant I tried during my trip in Salt Lake City. Best food and good price. It’s no wonder it is highly recommended. The regret is we didn’t eat all and left some food.
Roby Dorsett
This is the best mexican food I have ever had. The Mole's are phenom! Even the basic Red Iguana Plate outshines all comers. Can't recommend enough. Get the top-shelf Margarita (Ramone something or other), it is delicious, not your typical, too-sweet marg.
Tai Roach
If you aren't at least trying the mole, why are you even coming to Red Iguana? If you want something that is nothing but carbs and cheese, this isn't the place. Red Iguana is more than just your typical cheese enchiladas and tacos. GET THE MOLE!
Samantha Miller
This place is SO GOOD! It was dinner time when I went and out waiter, Henry, did an amazing job! He took the time to tell us about and bring all the different mole to try! The food was delicious! Oh, and the salsa! It was differ t than any other salsa I’ve had at restaurants but in the best way! It was so flavorful and the perfect spice! I would definitely come back next time I come/pass through Salt Lake City!
Charles
I wast yping in this place to find it on Google maps and accidently typed RAD Iguana isntead of RED - come to find out, my typo wasn't all that far off! Ha! Cause this food was RAD!
They have lots of moles - no, not the pesky critter - a moles (pronounced Mole A) is a mexican sauce made up of lots of different ingredients and boy do they have a bunch! There's a mole sampler you can do and they bring out a plate full of
I ended up getting the Mango Enchiladas cause the mango mole was my favorite. Sure can't wait til my travels take me back to the RAD Iguana!
Bryan Clark
Mole is super flavorful, salsa is fresh spicy & one of the best. Still stands as one of the best Mexican places in SLC
Kent
Great hangout with family or friends! The food tasted great and they were accommodating for vegetarian needs. Service was also great! Would go back.
Virginia Meyer
The food and wait staff were fabulous!
The atmosphere? It's right next to busy trail road tracks.
At some point you're going to have to SHOUT your conversation!!
Tex Diesel
I am always hesitant to try Tex Mex outside of Texas, but this restaurant was fantastic. I also have an allergy and they were extremely accommodating.
Sarah Maxwell
I love Red Iguana! The food is insanely delicious and the service here was next level. Our waitress took the time to help us decide what to get and was very thoughtful and attentive.
chantelle hyland
A Salt Lake staple and must try! Definitely get a Molé. And always ask about the special. There are an array of gluten free options. And a full bar with yummy drinks!
Leanne Sullivan
Amazing food! Everything our party had was incredible. Staff was super nice and took good care of us, even someone who wasn't assigned to us stopped to pick up and wipe off a crayon my son threw down before returning it. Tables very nicely spaced out, felt very comfortable there.
Tommy Nanto
Definitely lives up to the hype. Try the horchata. Very nice!
Team Johansen
Great food, good service, Love the jalapeño margarita!
Peter McMahon
Where's the button to give 6/5?? This is the real deal...best Mexican food in SLC...and even perhapsnthisnpark of the U.S.
Kristen Zitting
Second time here and I'm blown away again. Incredible food and excellent service!
G Michel, Jr.
This was only my second time visits and I definitely need to eat here more. The flavors are delicious, the staff is very attentive. It was a great time!
Michael Cookson
Same great menu and vibe of the original location but more spacious!
Vlad Mata
Great Food, I ordered the mango enchiladas, not too much to fill a normal guy but tastes amazing
Alyssa Dixon
I've been eating at Red Iguana for years and they have never disappointed. My favorite dish is the Mango Enchiladas, but you really can't go wrong. Great food, great environment, and great service!
David Atwood
Fantastic. They said it would be a 25 minute wait but it ended up being more like 15. The service was super fast and friendly. The food came out very quickly and was some of the best Mexican food I have ever had. The Mole was phenomenal.
Lora Read
Food was excellent. Service was great. The wait time was much shorter than they said it would be. Highly recommend. I do not recommend the killer chicken salad, but pretty much anything else is great, especially the mango mole.
J Robinson
My favorite Mexican restaurant in the Salt Lake city metro area. I've never had a bad meal here. The chili Colorado is just like my mom makes, I love it. The molé is fantastic as is the chelada. I won't be disappointed.
Deacon Matthew Brend
It was very busy when we were there on a Monday evening, however that did not impact the service or the quality of the food. Great Mexican plates and drinks, highly recommended.
Samuel Helton
Tacos were ok, bloody mary was ok. Would try something different next time. Has to be a different reason why it was so busy. Very loud from the train traffic in front of building. Hard to have a conversation.
Ashley Kay
Food is always super fresh and delicious. Have to try to mole!
Mark Vozzo
If you are after Mexican food in Salt Lake City, this was by far the best I have had to date. The Iguana2 restaurant.
Having worked in the Tech Industry where different version of products are given a number I found it refreshing that this shop has the 2 appended to the end.
I have not dined at the version "1" store so I can't really say this restaurant is the upgraded version :-) Food was tops!
Btw, you must grab a photo with the giant Iguana in the carpark. Amazing.
Karl Jennings (KarlBear)
Fun location with friendly staff. Same excellent menu as it's parent location. Best selection of mole dishes in Utah. Come early. This is a popular dinner destination for good reason and there is usually a wait if you don't have reservations.
Michael Olsen
UPDATE 2/6/22: We go 6-12 times/year. Always as a group. Yesterday's was a good as it's ever been. We all had different things, we all concurred it was the best. The prep, the appearance, the taste, the service. Honestly, the kitchen staff deserve acknowledgement because it really stood out yesterday. We were all very impressed.
The hostess was the least pleasant part of the experience but, as with most host/hostess interactions, it only comprised moments of our time there.
Take-out dude was good, too. We took chips and salsa home. But that stuff by the quart. You can take all of the moles home with you, too. Display container was full of all the options, staff was very friendly.
Always good. Mostly very consistent. Nobody compares to their best take-out. It's really rather impressive when it's done right. That being said, when they put a mole dish in a paper container that soaks up the mole, you kind of want to say something next time, which I did and they made it right. What a hellish time to be in the restaurant business! They've bumped their prices a few times over the years, most notably since covid. I don't begrudge them a bit for doing so. Loyal customer since 1986. I prefer their second location as it's less claustrophobic.
Terri Holland
Tou can never beat RI. Both restaurants offer delicious food, great service and reasonable prices.
Shai
Just realized we live decently close to this restaurant now and was craving some good Mexican food. It was delicious and better than I remembered it! Tried their mole for the first time and can't wait to get more! Next time we are definitely dining in too. They have a separate entrance for pick up orders too, which I always find very convenient.

I ordered the chili relleno plate, egg batter was white (undercooked) when you lift it off chili. Chili was canned whole chili. Very obvious. Apparently they think their customers don’t know how to cook. I thought they were the closest to authentic in Salt Lake City. They’ve gained their fame and maybe they can continue to fool people who truly believe it’s authentic, like they did me a few times. You live and you learn.

Party of 5. Food was delivered quickly. Huge portions of great tasting food. They serve Pepsi products (no Coke) as well as smaller vendor carbonated beverages (I believe one person in party got Dr. Pepper and someone else got Root Beer.) Lunch menu was HUGE! A lot of choices. Great atmosphere. Get there early! We finished lunch close to noon and the line to get in was starting to form . . . .

Fantastic food! Definitely Worth the hype! Their mole is fantastic, we had the mango version but the sampler they brought out made us want to come back and try them all! They also have one of the best hortchatas I have ever had 😀 …

Great food. The moles here are truly amazing. If you have never been there before, you need to go to this great restaurant. You won't be disappointed.

Some of the best authentic Mexican and great frozen drinks/service

Excellent food, no waiting today due a table

Delicious food, great and friendly service. And reasonable prices. The restaurant trifecta. Anytime you make it to SLC, make sure to set aside time to go to RI2. The first is also great, but is a much smaller venue, so it may be better to just head straight for Numero dos.

Work lunch of 8. All loved it. Desserts were also amazing.

Don't let the location or outward appearances fool you. Red Iguana serves the best mexican food in Salt Lake.

Everybody loves the chile verde burrito! As usual, dining in Red Iguana 2 was a pleasure. Fast and tasty!

Mole Verde with turkey, will definitely recommend. My friend got the mole Poblano which was also wonderful. Highly recommend.

Whoever made my dish deserves only the best in life. I live in Florida and have had many many MANY Mexican restaurants in my lifetime, but this place without question is the best experience that i’ve ever had. I ordered the Red Iguana and is it was as if Jesus himself had crafted that beef tostada and spoonfed me my meal before i went to bed. Whatever you’re paying that chef is clearly not enough because my dish made every Mexican meal i’ve ever had dull by comparison. My only regret is that I will have to try every other Mexican dish with the fact that the best one i’ve had is over 2000 miles away. I hope the chef lives an incredibly good life and everything goes right with him, and i would strongly consider buying another ticket to Salt Lake City just to go to this restaurant. 500/5 would feed my whole family this as their last meal.

That was the absolute best overall Mexican Food I have ever had. I tried 6 foods and all we're amazing. My favorites so far are the Mango Enchiladas, Chicken Quesodilla, and the Chile Colorado. The Sopaipillas and Fried Ice-cream were to die for. Though, if you have a small group, get a half order of the Sopaipillas, it is a large serving.

Lives up to its name as one of the best Mexican food joints in the nation. So good!
We had a large party for a family reunion around the holidays. They accommodated is well.
Seriously though...best Mexican in Utah and beyond.

If you are traveling to salt lake City stop by the red iguana. Everything was delicious and I highly recommend.

Always such great food. Worth the
Price. Killer Nachos easily worth the $12.99 they charge. They load up the toppings big time. Curbside pickup is easy peasy. Tip ahead of time for truly contact less pick up.

Easily the best Mexican food I've had in Utah in years! The food was absolutely delicious! I had the enchiladas amarillas and they were phenomenal. The agua de orchata was also very very good. We will definitely be eating there a lot more in the near future. The wait staff was also super friendly and did a great job.

We frequently order pickup orders for lunch for our office. We have never had a mistake in order that I can remember, and have never had food come in a way that isnt clean and organized. They do a great job, the food is always delicious, and we are happy repeat customers. Seems to be the exception now that a food stop can deliver on what they sell, lets recognize those are doing it well

Great food with large portions. Friendly wait staff. Hugh Reed iguana outside was really great. Coming from south Texas, would have liked spicier salsa.
