A spot with excellent food. I was looking for something good to eat and McMenamins was high on the list. When I walked in I had no idea the food would be as incredible as it was. We had mozzarella sticks for an app (only 5 in an order) and ordered the fish and chips (with shrimp also) and the cheeseburger w/ fries. The fish was light and flaky with great flavor. The burger (ordered medium well) was well seasoned and juicy. Will definitely be returning here again. $7 drafts 👎🏾 (16 oz). For the app, fish and chips and burger and fries and 4 drafts ($75) before tip. A little pricey but the food is worth it.

The atmosphere is great. The drinks are watered down. The long island ice tea tasted like a non alcoholic beverage. But most places are like that. Drink before you go. 😉 The salad was fresh 😋 …

Yoooooo, I brought my homie here for his (our) bday, I had never been. We came early around 1p to watch the 1st NFL games and there was only a few people in here which allowed us to pick our seats. The food was awesome, he had chili and I had the chicken tenders. He said the chili was top notch and the tenders reminded me of original Louisiana style strips, fresh cut chicken breasts. Very nice time, don't know about later but at 1p it was perfect. This all went well south a couple Guinness Stout drafts!

We visited this place February 2019 while visiting a Lutheran seminary. Great place! We sat outside, they had heaters and great service! The food was incredible, wasn’t expected coming from a tavern.

One of the best neighborhood taverns. I don't hang out as much as my brother and his friends do to watch games (who btw loved this place for many years), but I enjoy it when I do. The service is friendly and the food is great. The wings are the best! You feel like you're among friends.

Portions were enough to take home. Tap beer is good while you wait. Not too loud that you can't hear the next person talk. Lots of TV's. Friendly atmosphere. Tall tables for people that don't want to sit at the bar

A popular place to get takeout meals is McMenamin's. The burgers are big, tasty, and very fairly priced. I really love the fish and chips, which are perfectly battered and fried without being overly oily. I've been there for years and will continue to go there!

The best fish and chips! And the Guinness is always consistent. Their rotating menu options are always inspired, my boyfriend often gets the various wings. We love coming down on a Friday night and sitting outside, where I can still watch the game.

My vote for best local bar in Philly. I’ve loved this bar since I went to college 15yrs ago. Now that I’ve moved away I still visit whenever I’m back in Philly (which is 1 or 2x times a year). The food is among the best bar food you’ll ever eat. The wings are crispy and the buffalo sauce is delicious. The burgers are great...love the spicy fries too. Even the salads are good. The beer list is what got me interested in this place back in college...it’s a long chalk board filled with solid rotating choices. The owner knows his beers. The owner is also a great human being interested in patrons. I’ll visit this place for as long as he owns it. (For added craziness fun...visit during a Birds game...just be prepared for a packed house)

Popped in McMenamins Tavern for lunch today and we were not disappointed. My wife and I shared some apps. The fried artichokes and chipotle hot wings were fantastic. The fish and chips and shrimp and chips were both delicious and we have some extra for dinner tonight. We’ll be back for sure!!

Love this place! The staff are wonderful and the food is delicious. There’s a nice, covered outdoor seating area with ceiling fans, but the indoor area is nice a cozy too. There’s also a bar at the front.

First time going but not the last. Our host is a very nice young man, very informative about the food and drinks. Me and my friend went in the afternoon so it wasn't crowded. The bartender was a very nice lady. The hamburgers were huge. I'll have to try one next time. I had fish and chips which was excellent in my book, but I really loved the vibe in this tavern and I'll definitely visit again.

My most favorite thing about this place is the people. The staff is always super friendly. Great seating for me and my friends to just chill watch the Eagles game and kick back a few. I really like the chicken. It was juicy tender and seasoned to perfection.

I live in the area and have been going for years. McMenamin's was doing craft beer before it was cool and they get it; a consistently good selection. 17 taps. The food is excellent. They have a core menu, you can't go wrong with the burger, wings or fish 'n chips. They also have a special menu that changes every Friday and offers some surprisingly inventive choices for what at first seems like just a neighborhood pub. It can get loud at times, and crowded on Eagles game days. While loud, it is not vulgar or uncomfortable. You could bring your six year old daughter, wife or mother and feel comfortable. The staff is great and most of them have been there for years; they get to know you pretty quickly. They have maintained their level of excellence for decades without getting stale. A neighborhood treasure not to be missed.

Get their burger, or if vegan/vegetarian try the portobello cap. They also have excellent chicken salad and the fried artichokes are amazing. Their fish and chips is the best one you can get in this area.

Inside ambiance is a little rough. Sit OUTSIDE seriously. We had the outdoor seating to ourselves! Large menu. Happy to accommodate substitutions. Vegetarian options. Desserts are HUGE. Fun atmosphere for an Eagles football win. Great food. I had the chicken tenders with a special sauce. Irish stew is good too, as are the ginormous burgers. Lots of tasty gluten free recipes on the menu. Great beers on tap with locals and seasonal favorites. (I secretly call it McManliman's). Good spot. Service was fast and friendly.

Neighborhood spot with a game always on the TV. Food is good, not pretentious. Busy, so getting a seat is a little tricky in the evenings. Chill, older crowd with a family here or their enjoying dinner. Waiters and bar tenders are really nice.

This is the Mt. Airy Neighborhood bar. The inside looks just like a small/medium sized neighborhood sports bar. But you won't find a frozen industrial menu. The food is high quality and made in house. There is an excellent beer list. The staff is terrific.

Very popular local bar! We stumbled upon it when looking for fish and chips in the Philadelphia area. Portions are large and very reasonably priced. While delicious, the fish was a little bit salty for my taste. Very crowded, which is always a good sign about the food and atmosphere. We were however sat at a table "outside" which was basically a make shift room, which was a little odd and made us feel disconnected from the resturant as a whole. The staff was very nice but very unorganized, especially when it came to dealing with the large crowd.

It's a cool neighborhood bar. Caters to the Mt. Airy, Chestnut Hill patrons. Drinks can be a bit expensive. Food is delicious, with the portions on the large size. One of the Bartenders did not seem as though he wanted to be there. He never made eye contact with me and my guest to take our first drink order. We had to get his attention by flagging him over. Afterwards, he never asked if we wanted a refill. In fact he left the bar area all together and went to the seating area to do other things. Finally, another Bartender Claire comes over to refill us. It's a cool, quick, safe place to hang out, have a drink, play a game of darts, chat with the locals, and eat some good food.

Just attended McMenamin's for dinner before seeing a show. (If your seeing a show at the Sedgwick Theatre, it's almost right across the street.) The place is very casual and comfortable. A few tables and a bar as you walk in, with more seating in the back half. Menu generally American food, burgers, fish n chips, sandwiches, etc, but some entrees available, including steak. My wife and I ordered the gator bites, which with the accompanying sauce, was good. We both had a burger, the focal point on the menu, but numerous toppings are available. Each under $10 (with lettuce, cheese, bacon, and chips) each were juicy and good. Service was good, prices all reasonably, bathrooms all clean!

I don't get there enough but recently went to meet up with a buddy and watch some football. Tried the calamari Caesar salad. One, best calamari. Two, best Caesar salad. Place is amazing.

I went here during the Mount Airy September festival on Tuesday. The food was very great quality for a tavern. I had the shrimp and chips which were fresh and crispy. My boyfriend had grilled lamb, sautéed kale, and mash potatoes which was very well seasoned. I think the the food may be a bit overpriced for the portion and atmosphere. Nonetheless great place to go to for watching the games with friends or just enjoying a night out. 4/5.

A very casual, neighborhood bar, McMenamin’s has some of the best bar food around. My favorite thing on their menu is the fish and chips. No lie, better than the fish and chips I had in London. The tartar sauce accompanying the fish and chips is unique and very delicious. A must try!

I don't usually go in bars except now and again with friends but this neighborhood treasure is an exception. The wings are really good and i love the beef stew made with real guiness stout. The crew there is excellent and its the best place in Philly to watch a game.

When I lived in Mt.Airy this was my go to place. So I was in town this past week stop in to get fish and chips my daughter had shrimps. My fish was burnt and my daughter's shrimp were burnt and spicy. The drinks and staff were great.

Great place for a group or hanging out with friends. Stopped in on a Friday and there was a mixed crowd. Typical bar atmosphere; loud, crowded bar, sticking bathroom floor, lol. But thats to be expected if the place has something to offer, right? The food here is really good. My table had: Fish & Chips, Turkey Burger (it is not the frozen nasty patty most places carry), the Hummas (A must try- thank me later) and Buffalo Wings (both mild and super hot). All three of our servers were extremely nice. Service was typical for the day and time (Warm Friday night). Me nor anyone at my table ordered alcohol, we strickly came for the food. I would return for more food or to just hang at the bar for sure. This place didn't get this many reviewers if it wasn’t legit!

I like that they always have 1 hard cider on tap (and a good craft beer selection, which my friends enjoy). The wings are my favorite in the area, and their fries are really good, too. However, last time I was there, we tried the cheese fries, and the cheese tasted like weird yellow gravy, not cheesy at all and just made the usually good fries all soggy. Also, they weren't able to give me all flat wings bc they portion them out ahead of time, which was fine, but I got about 9 drumsticks and only 1 flat, which is totally confusing. I wondered if someone did it on purpose bc I requested flats? But I'd like to think no one would be that much of a jerk. I'll still go there, (esp for half price wings on game day!) But I had to take off a star for the last visit.

A nice little Irish pub on Germantown Ave. It is a place where the locals come to catch up and eat. For me, an Irish pub is a beacon for whisky and scotch, so as long as the selection is good, you're alright by me. This place meets my criteria. The food is ok, too. Meaning it's not overpriced for the quality. Go on in and enjoy yourself. If you have just moved to the area, go to meet some of your neighbors.

Miss the old staff & along with Covid 19, don't think it will regain the warmth & closeness that made it so popular! But, I hope they prove me wrong! If they haven't done it yet, they need to replace the current hamburger roll with the one they had a few years ago! Last burger I had, the roll fell apart while I was eating...disgusting! This was the best burger joint in the city! Want to add that McMen's was the quintessential sports bar for Eagles games & like "Cheers"...everybody knew your name! This was my favorite place to watch my team play for more than 13 years!

For what could be a neighborhood bar, McMenamin's is a hidden gem. Their beer list alone is worth stopping in for, but most importantly, grab a menu. You won't even make it past the weekly specials sheet attached with a paper-clip to the laminated regular menu. You won't go wrong ordering anything from the regular menu, but trust me...you're getting something from the specials.

A Mt. Airy institution. McMenamin's is a great place for food, the beer list can be pretty good if you catch it on the right night. They offer some pretty amazing specials on drinks like BoGo on Mondays between certain hours, on certain beers only, but one is Guinness which was cool. The fish and chips is some of the best I've had, everything else we have ordered over the years, including the special, have all been excellent. There is a reason this place has been around since the early 20th century.
