Reviews of Alyan's Middle Eastern & Mediterranean Restaurant
Adam
The food here not only looks amazing but taste's incredible. It was fresh and made to order. The staff were super polite and friendly. The iced min tea was homemade and really delicious on a hot humid day to quench the thirst and stay cool. The mixed grill platter was a generous portion of food perfect for lunch. The hummus was fresh and exquisitely spiced. Everything here was great. The falafel was also fresh and made to order. Really worth the trip. Definitely a repeat to eat.

One of my favorite restaurants in all of Philly! Be sure to dine in the back room - it is so charming. The food is fresh and so so so good. I’ve never had a bad meal here… literally everything is delicious. Love their mint iced tea as well! Highly recommend!!!

Wonderful quality food in a tiny lace in Philly. We had iced mint tea, hot mint tea, veggie platter and kebab platter. Everything was fresh, delicious and amazing quality. The owner personally checked to make sure we were happy.

10/10 This quaint Middle Eastern restaurant by south street was an unforgettable experience. This is a hidden gem that serves authentic Middle Eastern cuisine. I was especially impressed by the lamb kabobs and assortment of appetizers brought to our table. This is fresh quality food. Not overly processed like some other chains. You can tell that this family restaurant takes pride in the quality of their food and the experience of the guests. I will be visiting frequently. They have a dinning room in the back that is great for party’s and small events.

This is a great Mediterranean place to go to in Philly. The service is great and so is the food. I got the falafel platter and it was delicious! The quantity and the quality of the food is definitely up to par and worth the price. Would highly recommend. 👍🏻

We ordered the falafel platter and grape leaves - amazing flavors and crunch, great amount of food to share, everything is made fresh. Lovely mint tea for the morning too. Very friendly owner and great atmosphere. Definitely coming back

Absolutely excellent. The food is fresh and delicious and the service is great. We have been coming here for years. I highly recommend the Middle Eastern Combo appetizer platter. Everything in it is incredible.

This place is by far one of thee best places to eat in Philly! Everything was so fresh and very tasty! The service was amazing and prices were very reasonable considering how much you get!

This spot is a staple in the Philadelphia and South Street community. Alyan serves up a mix of delicious Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine. Plates are consistently fresh with awareness of quality use in ingredients. Favorably enjoyed with friends and loved ones in a family style fashion as portions are plentiful, or in dining solo. Some must haves: the houmus, fries, falafel, one of Alyan's specials.

We very much enjoyed visiting Alyan's tonight. We chose to sit in the back room, the entire ceiling back there is a sky light and is filled with a variety of plants. It was so peaceful and pretty. To start my partner and our child shared the Middle Eastern Combo appetizer. Everything was flavorful, and we each had different favorite items on the dish. Our 7 year old loved the feta and the eggplant, my husband the marinated mushrooms and baba ghannouj, my favorites were the Hoummos and pita bread. We shared Lamb dishes for dinner, and ordered their pitcher of Mint tea. The iced mint tea. Wow! I haven't had good mint tea in almost a decade. It wasn't bitter at all. They serve it unsweetened and they took extra care to make simple syrup to sweeten it with instead of just giving sugar packets that wouldn't devolve all the way. One of the Lamb dishes came with "mixed vegetables" which ended up being a tomato soup based vegetable stew that was so full of tastes and textures, it was delicious! For dessert we tried thier Baklava, it's filled with a mix of walnuts and Pistachios. While i don't love the texture of walnuts personally the mixture they use is fine chopped and was delicious. The fillo dough provided a nice crunch to the dessert and the honey was just the right amount of sweet. The staff was kind and helpful in answering questions. The only thing that would make it better is if they used more real dishware instead of the paper plates and plastic cups some of our food came in. We will be back!

HANDS DOWN best Falafel in The City! I have been enjoying This place since early 2000’s its always been my go to place to get delicious Middle Eastern Fare! The food is always fresh and never lacks flavor. The back room & mint iced tea are a must if you dine in ! Hummus is smooth, Baba ghanoush is outstanding. Pita is warm & fresh . They offer platters & sandwiches and many other things. In a city that restaurants come and go This place is still Making amazing food . Consistency, Freshness, and Affordable.

Cozy dining experience and Mohammed the friendly owner showed us exceptional hospitality! The falafel platter and the grape leaves side dish are fresh and flavorful, and the baklava is the right amount of sweetness. Mohammed informed us that everything is made in house, and we can taste the difference. Highly recommend trying this place for authentic Mediterranean cuisine!

Absolutely perfect Sunday lunch—warm service and inviting atmosphere! Had the falafel and my companion had the chicken platter—hard to know which one was better because we were clashing forks to sneak bites the whole meal! Highly recommend!
Zakaria Alyan
This place has been here since 1982 and the food just gets better. Absolute gem. Award winning fries and the best falafel and shawarma in the city. It’s a must!

Okay let me preface this review by stating that my family and I are vegetarians and allergic to mushrooms. The server was so thoughtful and personable. He treated us like we were family and truly helped us experience the food and culture. The ambience was amazing, not a luxurious feel, but more of an authentic feel. The server patiently listened to our dietary restrictions and proceeded to make recommendations based on things we’d enjoy. He was passionate about the food and helped us order very delicious and filling meals. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Philly and I cannot wait to return. PS the stuffed grape leaves are my favorite and a must try!
Alexandra Padula
The chicken went deliciously with the hummus, it was superb! Definitely try out Alyan’s if you’re in the area! They have delicious food! 100% recommendations!!!
Ruth Dubb
I love this place. It is the least pretentious restaurant in this area. The food is tasty and the service friendly. My mother and I come here every time after our music session at Settlement Music School. We have tried different places but this is by far the most satisfying place and now we don’t go anywhere else. The other restaurants do not compare. I especially love the lamb kabob but there are plenty of options. Highly recommended.
Michelle Rodney
The food was absolutely delicious and the owner could not have been more personable and attentive. I love middle eastern food and his hummus was THE BEST. I was literally using my knife to scrape every last drop; stopped just shy of using my finger to swipe it all, but this hummus is worthy of a total
loss of manners. We ordered two chicken kabob platters and the chicken was tender and seasoned well. A lot of food for the price. We will go back and most definitely plan to take out large containers of the hummus.
Soror Thalassa
What a gem of a place. Consistent af. Order mint tea and the middle eastern appetizer. You won’t be disappointed. I’ve been coming here since the early 90s and have never once been disappointed. Thank you for so many memories.
Galit Dadoun
I LOVE this restaurant. When we lived here, this was our favorite neighborhood restaurant. Now we make sure to stop by every time we're in Philly. Falafel balls are crispy and delicious. Everything arrives warm and fresh, spiced to perfection. Aliyan fries are a unique favorite and hummus is simply great. ordered the lentil soup for the first time too, so hearty and healthy. Love coming back here every time. Thank you for being a perfect host too.
Kelsey Gettis
Excellent food, friendly service & super cozy back room. My friends and I had a great time. Looking forward to coming back again soon!
Steve Levy
I've lived in this neighborhood for over 20 years and this is still my go-to for Middle Eastern food. The lentil soup is absolutely delicious (and vegan), the falafel and kabob sandwiches and platters are perfect, and the kibbi and mixed grill are the ones that really keep me coming back. Try to get a seat in the skylit back room where the atmosphere is peaceful and lovely.
Christine V
Loved it here! I got a grape leaf platter with rice and it was so so delicious. Place was cozy and server was attentive and friendly. Just off of south st and probably more worth it than most the other restaurants there!! They even gave us some baklava to take home since it was our first visit :)
Ayesha Ali
Great food and even better service. Food is always consistently fresh and delicious. Staff is extremely friendly and welcoming.
John Faga
Spectacular. Had the falafel and hummus sandwich followed by Arabic coffee and baklava and my partner had the zucchini sandwich. Loved it all. I love leaving a restaurant feeling both excited and relaxed. Alyan’s was exactly that.
Raheemah Muhammad
My family has been coming here to eat since the 90s. Consistently delicious, never disappointed! I’ve had dine-in service and take out. Their Hummus is THE BEST in the city! I absolutely love their fries. The burger is good, the platters are my favorite. Better than a lot of food I’ve had in the middle eat lol.
Arin Ledesma
Got the mixed grill platter & an iced mint tea. So fresh & tasty!! Will definitely be coming back.
Justin Rhodes
I have gone to Alyan during my dinner break 3 or 4 times now and it never disappoints. I usually order the chicken skewer platter and it is delicious and very filling for a reasonable price. Honestly some of the best hummus I’ve had for a very long time. Today my waiter gave me a piece of baklava on the house and it was excellent. I’m usually in and out in under an hour happy and with a full belly.
Angela Costa
Traveled to Philly for a day trip with my boyfriend and decided to try something different and I am so happy I did! Delicious food and great service definitely will be coming back when I’m in the area again 🤤🥰
Adam Razick
Been coming here over 15yrs , the food only gets better and the service is always amazing, I usually park In the loading zone because it generally takes us less then 30 min from start to finish , highly recommended authentic middle eastern food
Dean Adams
Once you have been to Alyan’s you will forget about Jim’s being closed across the street. An amazing experience with incredible food. T is like no other.. also consistent every time..Go to Alyan’s and transport yourself to the Middle East…🥰
Jill Patel
Their food was so homey and delicious!!! Definitely would recommend this hole-in-the-wall gem to everyone 😍 …
Andrew
I’ve been coming here for at least 25 years and the food is consistently delicious. The mint iced tea is homemade. The chicken kabob sandwich has a tasty tahini sauce on it, along with big chunks of onions. When I’m extra hungry I get the couscous platter with chicken and vegetables. The owner and servers are all so friendly — keeps me coming back!
Dylan Rubin
This place is bangin!!! Authentic high quality Mediterranean food and friendly staff. Definitely come by here for a tasty meal.
Lisa Greene
This has been my favorite spot for over 2 decades!!! The food is always superb and the atmosphere is the most relaxing. I will always come back every chance I get!

Super delicious and authentic Palestinian food ! Cozy atmosphere and very kind and generous host ! ✌️

What a Gem! This place is amazing! The Owner and staff do an extraordinary job. You won't be disappointed
Paul Kelley
I had the falafel platter, which was really nice, and my companion had the parsley eggs, also really good. The baklava was the best I've ever had - solid with nuts, sweet and rich, but not overly gooey like some can be. The service was very attentive for such an informal kind of place. The room in back was a little over air-conditioned that night, but very relaxing, nice decor, but cozy, not too formal. Will definitely stop in there again.
Barbara Bautista
I had a craving a couple of nights ago and went there for lunch today. The food did not disappoint! It was delicious as always. The portions are a nice size and the prices are very reasonable. My mother and I decided to eat there and I ordered a platter to take home to my son. The owner personally greeted and served us outside. He is very personable and friendly. if you’re hungry come and bring your appetite! The food is amazing!
Eva Isaacs
Wow I love this place! So cozy inside. Great menu with lots of vegan options. I got a falafel and hummus sandwich and it was amazing and cheap too! Service was fast. The owner is super friendly and helped me figure out what to order. Highly recommend stopping in!
samantha s
SO. DELICIOUS. This spot has some of the best food around. It’s fresh, flavorful, and you can taste the love that went in to it. I dropped in to pick up my order and was met with friendly conversation and a delicious piece of baklava 😘 Their hummus is SO smooth. Their pita “crunchies” as the kids call them are insanely great on top of salads or just as a snack themselves.
Elizabeth Wright
This is a great restaurant! The appetizers are beautifully flavored and presentation is lovely. The entrees, sandwiches, mint tea and Turkish coffee were delicious and the baklavah splendid! The staff is welcoming and service great. I can’t think of anything that wasn’t top-notch! I will definitely return as soon as possible.
Stephen Jumper
Really enjoyed our dinner here! Excellent falafel, very soft and fresh. All the food was great. The front is more of a take out place but there’s a cute back room with nice hanging plants and windows. Simple, no frills, but absolutely high quality food and great prices. Would go again!
Nancy Berman
My husband and I just shared yet another delicious late lunch/early dinner here last Sunday. Their falafel sandwiches are THE BEST. We've been coming here off and on for more years than I can remember. Fresh. Tasty. Even down to the marinated carrots on the appetizer platter. Amazing.
Veronica E
I went this evening and the young guy that took my order was very sweet. I had the lamb kebab sandwich and it was very tasty. The lamb shawarma was also really good.I had it with the fries and they were not too salty, just perfect. The baklava was so tasty as well. Most definitely coming back.
Joseph Argenio
All my Middle Eastern delights at affordable prices. The food is fresh, the service is excellent. Grape leaf platter and lentil soup are my favorites. They even have burgers & fries for those with such tastes in your party.
But the best is the Mediterranean diet baby.
Kerry Hogan
My husband and I stopped in for lunch on a rainy day, and I’m so glad we did! The food is incredible - the falafel cannot be beat. Everything we had was delicious, from the hummus to the baklava. And on top of that, everyone who works there is just delightful! Such a great experience all around. We’ll definitely be back.
Rory
One of my favorite places to get food on South St and that's a high bar. The food all tastes very fresh and they give generous portions for good prices. Their falafel and hummus are especially high quality- the falafel isn't dry which is often a complaint with other places. The baklava was great, just the right amount of sweet. Plus they've got an adorable cat that makes an appearance sometimes! Great service and great food
Megan Wunderler
Spinach pie platter was delish! Lovely owner! Great service! Will def come again!
Kerry Morlino
This is our fav place to eat in Philly, can't beat it! Been coming for 14 years. The hummus is the very best ... no other we have had has matched it. The food is home made, authentic, fresh and delicious. The portions are ample and the setting is traditional. Set on a little side street in Philly and less than 3 min walk from an ample parking area. You won't regret it. We travel over from NJ to have it! Yum!!!
LA Ayers
The falafel here are as good or better than any I’ve ever had. I always get the Falafel Sandwich with Hummus and although it’s huge I always manage to eat every bite. SO good. The French fries with fried onions and hot peppers are amazing. Sit in the back room with the glass ceiling (so pretty) and don’t forget to get the mint tea. Great service and a very authentic menu. Not to be missed!
Katie Burrows-Stone
Alyan’s never disappoints! Affordable, delicious middle eastern food. My husband and I ate here on our first dat 7 years ago and we are always happy to go back for great food and good vibes. Highly recommend!
Sandy Lehan
The food here is outstanding! The experience of sitting down in the restaurant and eating the lentil soup is exquisite. This delicious blend of flavors and vegetables can not be rivaled. The platters are amazing with good sized portions. I recently discovered a dish called Foul Mudammas on the menu. This dish of stewed beans has become my favorite. The balance of flavors is incredible. You will be very happy you tried this one!
Over the years Alyan's has been one of our absolute favorites! It has remained one of the best kept affordable secrets in Philadelphia. The owner and the wait staff are so nice that when my car broke down one night, they offered to give me a ride home. Great food and great people!
Laura Carey
We love Alyan’s, and we’ve been eating there regularly since before the pandemic. The food is delicious, freshly prepared, even the stuff that starts to go bad after a while, like tabouli. They always get our order right and the service is friendly and helpful. We like this place better than Cilantro a few doors down.
Benjamin Nealy
Stepped into a cozy spot for a hot meal on a cold, rainy day. I shouldn't have been surprised by the food, given the reviews but everything was fantastic. The kibbi was crispy on the outside, yet tender on the inside. Some of the best hummus I've had - smoky, balanced. we ended up getting more to take home.
Kenneth Pearlstein
This place is has been a favorite of mine for decades. It’s a “dive” restaurant, I guess. Not fancy at all — but that’s not why I go! I go because the food is always, always, fresh and fantastic. Savory lamb and chicken, amazing salads and sides, fresh herbs all garnished with a single-source olive oil that is banging! Just had lentils soup, a fresh salad with grilled chicken, grilled veggies and falafel. If you’re on South Street plan on hitting this place.
Bonnie Shanas
I ate here with my son last week for a late lunch. It was absolutely excellent!! The dishes so beautiful, tasty and well seasoned! Lovely atmosphere, wonderful service... can't wait to go back!
Michael Bannister
This is one of my favorite places. We've been coming here for 15 years. The middle eastern combo is tasty. The fries are amazing. The vegetables are always fresh. And the staff is friendly and helpful
Elizabeth Weisbrod
From the iced mint tea to every morsel of delicious food and the wonderful chat with the owner, we'll be back in a heartbeat! Both meat eaters and vegetarians have plenty of options to choose from. The downside? My stomach wasn't as big as my eyes - I didn't want to stop eating!
Steve Griffis
THE place we drive to, all the way from Wildwood, New Jersey. Worth the trip Every.Single.Time.
From the first step in the door, greeted with a smile, welcomed and valued as a customer. The combo platter is a must, and as always doesn't disappoint
Fresh marinated vegetables, Tabouli, Taking, Warm Pita, Feta... a full plate of Middle Eastern Goodness! Today it was a Lamb Kabob Sandwich.. perfectly done and seasoned, grilled to perfection and over flowing it's pita jacket. Very well done. Perfect baklava to finish that somehow there was room for. Clean plates, satisfied bellies, and a whole new reason to make the drive next time.
Kareem Sharaf
We go to Alyan's every time we are in South Philly. They have incredibly tasty and fresh food. The restaurant is very cozy and welcoming. I love the homemade ice tea!! A must try if you are in the area.

I love this place! I used to come here in the early 90's when the band I worked for played on South Street. The food was really good then and it's still really good! Love the fries with onions and hot peppers! The Falafel is so very good and the service is good and they are friendly!
I can't wait to go back and hopefully not as much time will pass.
David Birtwell
This place is great and always has been. If you are looking for delicious fairly priced middle eastern food, this is your spot. Alyan’s has been around since the early 80’s. I had my first meal here in the late 90’s and have never stopped coming back. The entire menu is good on top of which it’s right off South Street near all kinds of fun stuff. Highly recommended. Note that Alyan’s is BYOB. The nearest Wine and Spirits is a 10+ minute walk away. Beers can be purchased across the street.
Brian Nardi
Eating at Alyan’s was a great experience. We were warmly welcomed to the restaurant and found a seat in the cozy area in the back with a glass roof. It was a nice meal on a wet, rainy day. The falafel is out of this world! The hummus and lentil soup were amazing. I’ll be back to try more!
Dana Allison
Quaint little byo spot in Queen Village with exceptional food. I had the chicken kabobs and they were perfectly seasoned. Pita came fresh out of the oven and paired perfectly with cucumber and yogurt side dish. Definitely will be back when I visit again! Ask for Zak.
Sophie
Everything I've eaten here is delicious! The grilled vegetables are my favorite, they're super juicy and perfectly seasoned. The vibe inside is chill and peaceful, especially the little seating area toward the back :)

Took my girl here for a date, and she absolutely loved it. They had several vegetarian options too. Highly recommend the falafel and hummus! Grape leaves were also rich in flavor. Thanks for the great service!
David Girasole
Delicious! Shared this treasure with my daughter last night—incredible humus and the falafel platter. Love sitting in the back dining area—always feels like a secret getaway. Highly recommend!
Alpesh Patel
First time visiting this small Mediterranean spot in downtown Philly. FRESH, Friendly and Tasty.
Falafel is cooked when ordered not precooked and heated. All grilled food is made to order.
Don't let the looks fool you.
Jennifer Tyler
This place is an amazing value. My boyfriend and I visited this establishment while on a trip and we are so pleased. The owner is very friendly and curious and we were able to enjoy wonderful and authentic middle eastern food and a great price!
Chrissie Loftus
Alyan's is one of my family's favorites. We are vegetarian, and we have been eating here for at least 10 years. The service is great, the prices are reasonable, the portions are a good size, and the food is incredibly tasty. Definitely recommend!
John Puharic
Simply the best. Lentil soup is incredible. Mint Ice Tea also. The Alyan’s Fries are beyond compare. Everyone that I have ever taken always want to go to the “The Place with the Fries. This includes friends from Europe, Asia & South America.
While I am vegetarian, a couple of friends rave about their Mix Grill.
Jisa
Food was great! Felt like a family place. They will take care of you. The owner likes to come and check on you to make sure you are having a nice experience. Great lunch spot! Was visiting the area, but will be back.
Arev Cinar
This place hits the spot. Kabob plate was so good. Light and fresh. Falafel decent. Shawarma wrap two thumbs up. Baklava was a good, large slice, best to get one to share. Wait staff super kind.
michaela lee
I loved every bite. Seriously I couldn't stop eating. I'm going to be telling everyone I know to eat here. It's a small and cozy restaurant and the owner is a very nice and attentive guy. Feels like a nice family run place. Can't recommend enough
Susan Tyson
Always delicious! We can never decide between the hummus or the baba ganoush (so garlicky and yummy!). Thank you for the wonderful food and extra pita!
Erica
The food here was great! The cozy back room had such a great atmosphere, my friends and I loved spending time there and will definitely be returning! Also service was great and so generous. Thanks!

Have been a long-time customer and can say without question, Alyan’s food quality, service, and authenticity has never wavered. Best hummus and grilled veggies anywhere! Hidden gem right off South street.
Lea Lundblad
Fabulous food, and even better service. Some of the best hummus I have ever had! I tried their Special Chicken dish, and every flavor and element of the dish was perfect.
Rebecca Smith
Had a great lunch and even got to watch the world cup during our meal!
Duane Siojo
Alyan’s is a family owned Mediterranean Restaurant and is my family’s go to whenever come home to visit. Best falafel in the city hands down and the Alyan’s fries are the best. Anytime you’re in the city you have to check them out. Top notch service, very affordable, good portions, and very friendly staff and owners. Tons of vegan options too.
Amy Nardi
Amazing staff! Super friendly owner!!! Best falafel and hummus I have ever had, even better than in Israel and I lived there for over a year and have tried it all!! We will definitely be coming back!
Anthony Krupincza
Always great food and Service! Can’t do better than fresh food cooked right in front of you!

My favorite Middle Eastern restaurant. Great for lunch or anytime really. Chicken soup is always a great starter. I personally love the chicken kabob platter. Always welcomed with a hello and fresh food!
MomOf2
Food is always fresh and delicious. I've been going here for 15 years. Recently, I stopped by when the restaurant was closed. The owner happen to be there. He made me a Greek salad even though they weren't open! (The owner doesn't know me so I thought that was incredibly kind.)
Daniela Galdi
Love it here! Food is incredible, portions are great, and they make you feel like you’re a part of their family. Highly recommend checking this place out.
M LADIN
I’ve been eating here for the last 30yrs always the very best middle eastern / Mediterranean food.. Muhammad has been an exceptional host / chef for each & every visit my family & friends have come to dine in this exquisite restaurant for the last 3 decades again always a pleasure… Shukran (thank you)
Garret Bigley
Incredible authentic Palestinian cuisine! Hummus and baba ghanoush were delicious, fresh pickles and taboulleh, solid servings of chicken / lamb and couscous.
Service was excellent too! Definitely coming back.
Paula Talese
I have been eating here since 1987. Owner is the nicest man who takes such pride in his establishment. Every single item is authentic and made from love in sharing his culture and love of his country.
Andrew Daller
I think middle Eastern food is probably my favorite sort of food by a long shot. And out of necessity, I mostly only get to have OKish kabobs and such where I live. But I know what real middle eastern food should taste like, and I had it here. I had the lamb kabab platter, and it was the best, full plate of any food I’ve had in awhile…period. Fresh, cooked wonderfully, and delicious. It was a treat to sit in the back room, opened to the sky, and a joy to chat with the owner, Mohammed, who brought out our food. We’ve decided to come back for monthly date nights. 4 thumbs up.
Genevieve Kotz
charming quaint middle eastern fare. order the labneh and hummus for sure. great ambience! there is no better way to spend an afternoon than ordering many small dishes while chatting with your best friends.
Yasmeen Barbour
This is the best Mediterranean restaurant in the city hands down. You will not be disappointed with anything that you order. The hummus is untouchable. Love love love this place been coming for years.
COOLEY BLACK
This is easily one of my favorite places to eat at in the city of Philadelphia. The food is amazing and the environment is so homely. Also, Muhammad is a great host. 5 stars!
Jocelyn Miller
Stumbled on this place on the way to a cafe and it looked so good we had to walk in - definitely glad we did! Every dish was delicious and always happy to support a family owned business. Wish we were in Philly longer to come back!
Levi Baruch
Alyan’s.. where to begin?
So they advertise best fries in Philly. I’m not sure if this is true. BUT! They do make the best hummus I’ve tried here. The labneh.. innovative, spirited. The staff is warm and conversational- it really feels like home, especially if you make your way to the back room. It’s a cozy, romantic spot— a perfect retreat for a date, conversation with friends, or a casual solo lunch with a book. Alyan’s has become something of a ritual for me. I look forward to my next visit with clear eyes and ready stomach.
Romey Petite
We're in Philly from out of town looking for a quick bite and Alyan's was exactly what we needed! My shawarma was so delicious, and we are so grateful for the extra pita and baklava! Thank you!!! Will definitely be back! ❤❤❤
Firas Niaz
Very friendly service, salad was fresh, falafel was delicious golden brown, kibbi seasoning has distinct taste that’s the best I have ever eaten. neither was over cooked. I would go back and recommend..
Arlo James
Delicious food, great service! The hummus is outstanding. My partner and shared two platters, falafel and the lamb and turkey shawarma. We ate every last bite!
joanne donahue
If you're anywhere near 4th and South St and you're hungry, go to Alyan's! I've been coming here for more than three decades, and it never disappoints. The falafel sandwich with baba ganoush is my favorite, but no matter what you order make sure you get their french fries. So good! And eat in the back room. It's such a sweet little space.
Potato Head
The best Middle Eastern food in Philadelphia! So authentic and hearty. Highly recommend if you’re looking for good, fresh and delicious Arabic/ Mediterranean food!
Heather van Stolk
As much as I don't love the bike ride between West and South, I look forward to running errands on South St bc it means I get to treat myself to lunch here. Always fresh, delicious, generously portioned and reasonably priced! Falafel, kibbi, and parsley omelette are all perfection. Mint tea is tasty both iced and hot. The little greenhouse dining area in back feels like a magic secret hideout every time. Service always friendly! Pita always warm and toasty! Can't recommend enough.

A neighborhood gem!. Consistent, homemade and well-prepared Mediterranean specialties like Israeli style schwarma and salads. Casual and family-owned. Delicious food at very reasonable prices.

Alyan’s is the best Middle Eastern restaurant in town, hands down! From the creamy lentil soup, my favorite “Alyan fries “, and Kefta kabob platter, to the moist and delicious baklava, they never cease to please me!! Keeps me coming back for over 25 years!!!🌹

Jenny M. Sandler
Great place! Been going a long time. Nice family owners and operators. Always very accommodating of my gluten free needs altho the menu is not marked gf. Relaxed vibe.
Marc Pachtman
My wife and I have been going to Alyan forever. Mohammed (the owner) and his sons are great hosts and one of them is ALWAYS there. We head to the cozy back room with only 4 tables where you can actually hear your company. The ingredients are always fresh, and sauces and dressing are tasty. We order a shawarma platter, a fattoush salad a hot tea. We make 4 half shawarma sandwiches from the two pieces of pita that come with the platter and never go home hungry. The whole meal makes barely a dent in my wallet. If you want a unique experience with wonderfully consistent food, you won’t do better than Alyan!
Makiya Dettore
A small, hidden gem just south of South St on Fourth. My favorite is the falafel and hummus sandwich. The falafel is soft, moist, and flavorful - perfectly accented with consistently fresh vegetables in a pita. Alyans is a small shop that features the most magical and intimate indoor seating. The back room of the restaurant has a windowed ceiling that transports you to a fantasy realm of peace and comfort. It is a cozy space, perfect for hiding away on a lunch break.
Joanna Schwartz
Wide selections of authentic Arabic cuisine. Very reasonably priced and friendly staff. Homey, relaxed middle eastern vibe. Fatoush salad is delicious and the baba ghanoush is just like my sittoo’s!

Staff are friendly and wore their masks, we ordered takeout and the food was ready quickly. Can't wait to come back for more!

I was a huge fan of Alyan’s many decades ago. They had the fried and falafel that we still judge every else by. Now living. Far away, on a whim I stopped by. Wow. As great as I recall. Not sure how they do that as I am sure the staff has turned over many times. Thanks for staying awesome.

Alyan’s has the best middle eastern food I’ve been able to find in Philly. The food reminded me exactly of what I get in Palestine and made me feel at home. The owner & his son were both very kind men, the service is great, and the food is even better. I highly recommend checking them out!!

E Sayre
I first went to Alyan's in 1990, and the food is still as delicious as ever in 2022. I no longer live on the East Coast nor visit Philadelphia much, but when I do, I always go to Alyans for a delicious meal and a relaxed environment, and have taken many friends and family members there over the decades. One of my favorite things is sitting in the back when it's raining. Last night we ordered the Middle Eastern combo platter, falafel platter, fries, sides of baba ghanouj and falafel, and a pitcher of mint iced tea. The owner and our waiter Zak were very kind; Zak brought us everything we asked for, including extra house hot sauce (delicious). This food is a healthy, well- and simply-prepared alternative to cheese steaks. One of my favorites of all time.
Jonathan Shinners
Been going here for years. The fries are my favorite in Philly, and I haven’t had better falafel anywhere
Angel Rosario
Oh, Alyan's Middle Eastern & Mediterranean Restaurant. We love you so much.
Everything was so fresh and delicious! They have a selection of all the classics, from shawarma to kibbeh nay yeh, and everything in between. We can't decide where to start—we've been going back for weeks!
They will take care of you, too—if you're not sure what to order, ask for their recommendations and they'll tell you which dishes are the best sellers. And if you're still feeling unsure (ha!), they'll even recommend their favorite dish on the menu.
Alyan's Middle Eastern & Mediterranean Restaurant is an absolute gem: cozy and cute, with a warm atmosphere that makes you feel like family. Just go there already!

Alyan's is simply amazing! It may look modest, but inside is a world of homemade, wonderful middle eastern food. The food is outstanding, as is the customer service. My husband and I used to come here when we lived in the area 20+ years ago. Just came back with our teenage children on a trip to Philly. EVERYONE LOVED IT. I highly suggest the shawarma, hummus, baba, fattoush salad, Alyan fries (with fried onions and hot peppers) ... probably anything you order will be fantastic. Don't forget a refreshing pitcher of mint iced tea. The owner was so kind and gave us some complimentary dessert. He makes you feel incredibly welcome. Their little back room is delightful. I can't recommend this more highly.

This place was just okay. My friend visits regularly, they're very clean and polite but the menu isn't very extensive. I ended up getting a solid which I mostly enjoy but the dressing was not great, too watery. But it was a quiet and peaceful place to chat and the prices were very reasonable. They do have a glass ceiling in their back room so you'd be lucky to go when it's raining, very beautiful.
L Laroco

Alyan's did a catering order for our own wedding of around 80 people and it was a hugeee hit for our cocktail hour & appetizers! I can’t say enough how great it all worked out. Alyan was really nice to talk everything through with me to ensure the food would be of great quality and temperature for an event that happened hours after the pickup, and he also tweaked some items for us as well.
We had this really amazing idea to do an assortment of authentic Mediterranean food for our wedding in Philly, and I’m so glad we went with Alyan’s who made sure everything ran smoothly and was delicious. 5 out 5 stars. Thanks again.
Sarah Miller

I’m a vegetarian & my favorite is the falafel sandwich & fries. The fries are cooked w/ onions & jalapeños, they’re amazing! Love munching on the jalapeños. Of course there’s meat options if you check the menu, but thought I’d add this for fellow veggies.

Most importantly the owner and waiter were extremely friendly. These great qualities is what will keep us coming back. Already so excited for next time! There is a reason why this restaurant has been in business for nearly 40 years. They make wholesome delicious middle eastern food consistently. I first ate at Alyan’s when I was in college more than 30 years ago when it was known at Tully’s. I rediscovered this place in the past couple years and take my 20 and 15 year old boys there when we visit Philly. My favorites are the mixed grill and chicken kabob pita sandwiches. The flavors are very well-balanced with sweet grilled onions, peppers and tahini. The meats are always fresh and retain a wonder grilled flavor. The fries are made with fresh cut potatoes and mixed with just the right amount of onions and peppers. They have freshly brewed cold mint tea served with simple syrup for adding just the right amount of sweetness without the difficulty of dissolving granulated sugar. If you’re up for it, they also make a really great Arabic (Turkish) coffee. With the coffee of course you must have a price of traditional baklava. I’ve always had friendly service from the owner’s son as it is a family owned local Philly business. If you enjoy middle eastern cuisine I highly recommend this restaurant.

I've been coming here for years (possibly decades) for excellent middle eastern fare. My go-to is the chicken kebab platter, which comes with creamy hummus and a fresh salad with a nice tahini dressing.
I also frequently get the side of kibbi, and the side of spinach pie re-heats nicely in the oven for lunch the next day. Throw in some excellent lentil soup and you're set.
I've never been disappointed here. Delicious, fresh, fairly priced. Give it a try!
Lishaly Madera
Such tasty and fresh food with kind service!!! Highly recommend!
Paula Dubin
We been going to Alyans Restaurant for thirty years. I have not been there two years because of Covid. We had lunch today and as usual their consistency never ever change, it is amazing. If any one is looking for excellent food visitthe restaurant or order on line. We give a Five Start with out any doubts.

Jillian Munoz
Cozy atmosphere, delicious food, the vegetables were fresh!
Brae Lawren
I've been eating here for years and I love it. The mediterranean platter and the chicken shawarma wrap are favorites. This is one of my favorite type of restaurants- no frills inside, just high quality, delicious food, and plenty of it so you don't leave hungry. I love how how the side salad is finely chopped and comes with tahini dressing and the pickled veggies on the side are also incredible.
John Morse
i love this place, super nice and really really good food just check it out
Jes Lewis
Falafel sandwich + the green hot sauce. So good!
Daniel Palmeter
Fast, friendly, delicious. $8 sandwich was a lotta food too
C. Dan
Great food and service! Everything is homemade, fresh and delicious. I repeatedly ordered the falafel sandwich, spinach with mushroom pie and Greek salad. I’ve ordered many more items since then but those are my go to.
The mix pickled turnips, pickles, and olives are homemade and very delicious. Also the baklava was delicious, because I ordered repeatedly and called the restaurant to make a small change, the owner put it in my order for free and I will be ordering it soon.
The food is extremely healthy and fresh, I will keep ordering!
joislyn martin

Amazing falafel and fries, beautiful back room. Feels like a hidden gem
Dennis Richardson
Been going to this place for over 30 years. The Chicken Kabob Platter is my go to - their hummus is to die for. Everything is is made fresh to order - nothing sitting around in a pan for hours. So yes, a little wait for lots of heaven.
Like many establishments over the past year - it’s been a painful haul. Please help them keep on doing what they do best - put out some wonderful food.
Jim R
Amazing food and service. The French fries in particular are amazing!
Sal Rizwan
Excellent food. Hummus and all cold salads were 5 stars. The server couldn't tell me if chicken was handslaughter or not. Overall excellent service. Disappointed to find out that though they serve halal they are accomodating byob. Still deserving of 5 star for quality of food and service.
Alexander Julia
Best Middle Eastern food in town! Authentic and fresh.
Rosemary Wilson
Alyan’s is a perfect 10. Great food great value and great service !!! I’m married to this place.
Shay Karayanis
I am Greek so my standards are high. You can definitely find better Mediterranean / Middle Eastern cuisine in Philly but this place has OK food. Falafel is good, disappointing, dry pita bread.
Service was subpar our waiter never even came to check on us, I had to get up to ask for more water, the check, etc.
Amelia Dominguez
Amazing food, great service and affordable! You have to try this place!
Dave Borgenicht
I have been coming to this simple and delicious spot ever since I moved to Philadelphia in 1986. It’s all good here. Great hummus, great falafel, great zucchini and feta platter—whatever you get you cannot go wrong! Happy it’s still here and happy I am too!
Bucky Brown

Incredibly welcoming atmosphere. The owner made the food with care and easy for take out. I called in the order for a chicken shawarma platter with rice and it was ready in about 15 minutes for pick up.
The food tasted very good and was a great lunch.
michel fortin
Great Food. Fantastic Service. All the dishes are made fresh. The fries are well known in Philadelphia. I like the Alyan burger. The menu has both vegetarian and meat dishes. I recommend the Arabic coffee. Great place to take a date. Lunch and Dinners are the place to be. If new in town be sure to stop by.
Sanjida Priti

It is all fresh& authentic, grilled to PERFECTION flavors are BANGIN, AND it's healthy -I always feel so good after eating here- it's our favorite spot. Anyone local has been coming here for 20+ years because they KNOW this is THE SPOT. Also- best french fries in the city.

Natasha Constable
Absolutely amazing, whenever my boyfriend and I go to Philly we always have to stop in and get a bite here! Owner is so nice, food is inexpensive, and phenomenal, and the back room eating area is cute, I love the glass ceiling. If your near south st you definitely need to check them out!
Surai Dohm
You MUST come here when you’re in Philly. I’m a tourist and this is hands down the best Middle Eastern food I’ve had so far. The platters are delicious and seriously the sides are just as good as the main star of the show. We had the Chicken Kabob Platter and the Lamb Shawarma and both were great. I’d also recommend the Labani appetizer!
Maureen Sapnar
I just drove an hour to have my birthday meal here. This has been my favorite restaurant for the past 20 years. I love the chicken kebab and the french fries are cooked with onions and peppers. Supreme!
MJ Silver
True 5 stars…only place comparable I know of is all the way in Portland, Oregon.
Gregory Oliveri
Warm, friendly owner who serves up beautifully prepared food!
Margarita Thedorakos
Great chicken shawarma platter. Incredibly tender and flavorful - from spices and a perfect char - chicken thigh pieces, creamy hummus, salad, and TWO pieces of the puffier kind of pita for $13! They also serve thin pita if you want it. This place is a delight.
brianconboy
I've been dining at Alyan's at least once per week for the last 20 years - a fact that by itself will tell you how good the food is. Nearly everything on their menu is delicious, from their unique and very tasty soups, their specially marinated meats, pan fried chicken, rice and couscous dishes, Kibbis (Middle Eastern dumplings), Greek and Arabic salads and much more. The ambiance is homey and relaxed rather than expensive and high class. And it's comparatively cheap. It's a great meal and you won't be disappointed.
John M
The shawarma platter was amazing and service was excellent. Thanks!
Maria Benedetto
This food is delicious! A must for foodies and others.

My wife and I eat here all the time. The food blessed from the heavens. Fresh clean food!!!
Orlando Burgos Carrillo
Delicious food and great service. I get takeout from here all the time. The food is always freshly made and very tasty. I especially recommend the Lamb Kebab Platter, that way you can try the hummus and the mixed salad, which are both superb, as well as the lamb which is nice and tender. Can’t recommend this place strongly enough!
Dennis Spring
Quaint, reasonably priced and delicious what more could you ask for. Get the fries !!!
Kubarah Ghias
We've order catering from Alyan's a few times for our local University events and the food is always delicious!! Alyan's has always made catering super easy for us and we appreciate it so much! :)

Only place in Philly that makes traditional Middle Eastern food this good. Coming from a Palestinian family, this reminded me so much of home! I really enjoyed my experience eating here and I definitely will be coming back. Service is fair. Highly recommend.

Very authentic Mediterranean food and kind staff! There’s a nice little seating area in the back too if you prefer sit-down. We got the falafel sandwich and Mediterranean platter. 10/10!

Michael Refela
The best of the best feels like real middle eastern food great guy great food
Alia Chaudhri
My family and I have been coming here for 30 years. The food is beyond incredible. The best item on the menu is the alyans fries. They are cooked with jalapeños and onions and all deep fried. Chicken kabob, kefta kabob, and hummus are always on our table. Staff here makes you feel like family. I can't say enough great things about this place. This is a hidden gem on the culinary scene of Philadelphia. I'm hesitant to even write this review because I don't want the secret to get out about what an amazing place it is.

I have been going to Alyan's for a very long time (since it was Tully's). I can state without reservation that the food is consistently great- flavor, portion size. I highly recommend this restaurant for Middle Eastern fare. *Please support this locally owned, small business.
Amina B
Wow! If you end up on South Street and don’t stop by Alyan’s you are missing out! The service and quality and unbeatable. Because of the pandemic, our family orders takeout and eat in the car. The owner Mohammed and his workers made everything accessible for us. Everything was as fresh and hot as when we would eat inside before the pandemic. We are always grateful for the way we are served. Our mouths are blessed to experience the flavorful cuisine. Some of our favorites are the chicken platter, shawarma sandwich, falafel, and the fries! Highly recommend this restaurant. Everything is reasonably priced and has that authentic middle eastern taste. You don’t find this type of food and service anywhere else.
Amy Edelstein
Absolutely the best falafel and hummus in Philly. Transports you to your favorite place in the Middle East . . . authentic, homemade, delicious. I come here all the time, and have had them cater some events for me too. And, the baklava is out of this world.
Internet Sage
Yoo the food here is absolutely amazing! Try the falafel patters!

Always a reliable place for a delicious, affordable Middle Eastern meal. From the well-cooked meat to the flavorful vegetarian options to the amazing hummus, you can't go wrong with Alyan's. I've been eating their food for longer than I can remember; a true South Street staple!
Mohammad Sawaeer, Esq
I attended Temple Law School back in 2009 and during these years, I used to go to Alyan's and enjoy their tasty and healthy food for many years. Fast-forward, I was in Philly just few weeks ago and decided to go to Alyan's and when I did I was happy to see that they maintained the exact same level of professionalism.
I definitely recommend this nice place to everyone who is looking for a healthy and tasty meal
Juniper Sweeney
I came in for the first time today and I was really pleased with my falafel platter. The falafel was super crispy even after a walk home in the to go box and I really like the touch of the sesame seeds in them.
With the hummus, pitas, and salad, the platter is a nice, big meal with enough for leftovers
Iris Boshes
My husband and I were introduced to Alyan's when we first moved to Philly over 20 years ago. We have tried other middle eastern restaurants but none compare to Alyan's. The food is fresh and delicious with good size portions. We especially love the Shwarma platter, falafel, tabouli, french fries and baklava. The owner and staff are friendly and helpful. I was there the other night to pick up dinner and promised to write a review and share my feelings with everyone!
madelyn miller
This restaurant is amazing. Authentic and tasty. All of the food is fresh and made daily. I actually cannot pick a favorite dish as there are too many to choose from. Every order has been consistent and reliable. A landmark of South Street for sure!
Lysa Solano
Looking for authentic Middle Eastern food? This is the BEST in Philly! The hummus was extraordinary! The mushroom and spinach pie was delectable! The Lentil soup was flavorful and tasty! The owner was wonderful! They the baklava for a sweet treat! You will not be disappointed! Highly recommend this restaurant. A+
Rinat Degani
Alyan’s is great! The little room in the back with the skylight is lovely, we had the zucchini plater which was incredible. Get the pickles and the baklava.
Gavin Leach
Friendly, generous staff and excellent baba ghanouj!
Eliza
I rocked up during covid to order take out. Everyone inside was using a mask. I got to watch them prep my falafel sandwich through the window. They freshly fried it right in front of me. It was in a fresh pita, with lots of fresh veg and tahini. It had the perfect crunch to soft ratio. I got my order in under 10 min despite them having a full house outside in the socially distanced dining Area.
Can't recommend enough.
Richard Herskovitz
My family enjoys Alyan’s wonderful soups in cold weather and Hummus in all weather. I generally love a Greek salad with schwarma on top. And he has the best olives in Philadelhia! My wife lives his chicken sandwich with hummus, and his fries are crisp and tasty. We can’t wait till there is more inside seating so that we don’t have to take out.
Andrew Beothy
Alyan’s is hands down my favorite restaurant in Philly. Everything they make is delicious but the lamb platter has been a staple for the last 18 years I’ve been going! And don’t skip the fries or falafel!
Sylvia Orozco Silberman
Absolutely delicious! Kid friendly! LOVE the food!!!!
Rob K
I’ve been coming here 5 years, my good friend over 20 years. This is our Saturday night go-to place for incredible Mediterranean. It’s that good. The owner is always there and the ingredients 100% fresh. Our favorites are the kefta kabob platter, mixed grill platter, and chicken platter. If we’re in a veggie mood, the middle eastern platter. Everything in it is delish. We also love the marinated eggplant salad. Oh, I shouldn’t forget alyans fries- which come with onions & jalapeño peppers. The best, especially when you dine in.
Swaraj Ghuge
Nice patio seating, great food and a friendly owner. A definite worth visiting place.
Ben
Great food, good portions, and a reasonable price.

Great food and best falafel I've had! Also love the eggplant salad and lentil soup. I'm not local to Philly but make this one of my stops when visiting. Delicious and great value. Enjoy
