Reviews of J. Gilbert's Wood-Fired Steaks & Seafood Omaha
Ryan R.
Was a little disappointed with J. Gilbert's but mostly because of the price. At this price point, I have higher expectations for a meal. Don't get me wrong, it was good but not very impressive for the cost.
I got the combo and ordered 4 oz steak and scallops. Scallops were very good, steak was pretty good. The flavor of the steak was a little drowned out by the smokey flavor and how they cook it. It was decently tender, although as you can see from the photo, a little dry on the outside (wasn't dry in the middle though).

The place is located in the Marriott building and has a lot of parking and easy access. The food was great and the service (server B. - thank you) very good. It was a good tempo between the dishes, allowing the food to settle. I liked the filet Mignon that I ordered. It was flavored and juicy. The Maryland crab bisque soup was served very nicely. The flavor and the soup's temperature were great. Complementary bread and butter were also very good. We took the desert home....so no review yet. 🙂.
I'll recommend this place 👍👍👍

Had a dinner date with a good friend. This was both of our 1st time, needless to say the atmosphere and ambiance was elegant. The waiter was very informative and helpful. Our course I had Pineapple Martinis, delicious. Our entrees were cooked like we wanted. Everything was superb. I will return and treat myself.

I found this gem while staying at Marriot Downtown Capitol District. If you're staying at that hotel, don't you even THINK about driving somewhere to eat. There's delicious food right downstairs!
I believe the gentleman that assisted me was named Cory. He provided an excellent overview of the menu and amazing service. I'll tell you, service can make or break an experience, and he elevated my experience.
My recommendation
Start with the Maryland crab bisque. Ultra flavorful with nice meaty crab in the middle of the bowl. It paired nicely with my sour dough bread actually, although, the smoked garlic butter would have been enough (amazing). If you like seafood as much as I do, go with the seafood mixed grill. You'll get a variety of seafood cooked to perfection.
My only complaint is that the food was so good I had to stuff myself, and I couldn't try dessert! Not J. Gilbert's fault though, I'll take ownership of that one.
Stay hungry my friends.

For our anniversary my husband and I went to J. Gilbert's Wood Fired Steaks and we were very happy with our meals and our service. The sourdough bread had a good crust, but the bread itself tasted like it needed some salt in the mix. The Maryland Crab bisque was the star of the night for me. I loved the theatrics of pouring the bisque to cover the crab right in front of you. The taste was show stopping and I would love to know how they got the sensation of heat after every bite without it being spicy. It was phenomenal! I ordered the Twin Canadian Cold Water Lobster tails and enjoyed every bite. The potatoes were delicious. The asparagus was perfectly cooked, but the tomato (while adding color to the plate) didn't really balance well with the asparagus. My husband ordered the bone in pork chop. It was well seared and perfectly cooked. He also enjoyed his potatoes. The corn contained bits of bacon inside and he thought that was tasty. The Lobster Mac and Cheese was good, but was a lot heavier on the bread crumbs than the lobster. My husband had the creme brulee and it was the largest portion I have ever seen! The top was perfectly fired so it didn't taste burnt at all. It contained a single raspberry, so I do think the description was a little off. My chocolate velvet cake was incredibly rich. The raspberry ice cream was the star of the dish for me. I think it needed more acidity to balance the dish, raspberry puree or ganache perhaps. The service was good and our waters were never empty. Our server was fabulous and friendly. We had a memorable evening and were glad to give it a try.

We went here for our Anniversary dinner and it was nothing short of amazing! I had the Tomahawk and she has the NY Strip and both were cooked to perfection with great sides! Can't wait to go again!

Deeeeeeeeelisciousness with every course! And we all had an “I’ve never ever seen this before” moment: see video of The crab bisque Pour Over. Steak was cooked so right there’s none left. Crisped by the flame, medium in the inside. Location is convenient, has a very positive and fancy feel even though there’s casual dress allowed, and the place is definitely popular. We beat the rush I think but it wouldn’t hurt to make a reservation. The staff are really great, friendly and helpful. This is one to try if you haven’t been here!

Based on my previous ratings, I feel this place deserves a 6 star for sure, of course it's pricey and so is the taste. The chef needs a compliment for sure for the amazing options and maintaining great taste and presentation for every item. Smoked old fashioned was actually smoked and a bottle of smoke served with it to support the aura. Sour dough bread was so soft and tasty. Seafood platter was just amazing, that charbroiled taste was just ummm. Not sure when I had such tasty shrimp & crab cake before. Noting was fried and very tasty.
The carrot cake though, not my favorite.. sorry chef. I felt the cheese outside was a little too much and not complimenting. But hey, I'm no expert here, just a connoisseur of food.
Up to the patrons now.

Lovly fine dining restaurant. I did not feel that this was as romantic and we had hoped, the seating is a bit closer with a slightly louder and brighter environment. The menu was an excellent balance of seafood and steak options. I enjoyed the pre-set menu. The pre-set menu has an excellent selection of food for your 3 course meal. The cook on the steaks was beautiful, and the woodfire gave a beautiful smell and added to the flavor. The crab soup was very delicious, with a beautiful table presentation. They bring the bowl with the lump crab in the bottom for you to see and then pour the soup over at the table. Keeping your crab fresh and delicate, very delicious. I saw that the other soup (tortilla) was also presented this way. The smoked bourbon is also poured at the table. Delicious desserts and excellent house salad.

**UPDATE**
We recently came back for Round 3! Just like the first 2 times, the food and service was great. I got the lamb chops again and my husband got the steak. We also tried the calamari and it was amazing!
**Original**
The food was amazing and the service was even better! We came for my birthday celebration and they had a handwritten card waiting for me. They also treated me to desert! I love this place and will continue to come back!

Amazing atmosphere, service and food. Everything feels very upscale, making it a great place for a fancy date night or business dinner. Here’s a tip: Get the carrot cake. We were going back and forth but finally decided to order it when we saw it arrive at a nearby table. It’s incredibly rich, and the piece was giant. The cake itself is so moist and spiced, but the filling, frosting and additional sauce just take it over the edge. Order the carrot cake.

I'd give 3.5 Stars if that was possible. We had an early Valentine's dinner here on Friday. The Valentine's Day Special menu started at 3 and our reservation was at 7:15 (at the beginning of a 4 day stretch of this menu being available, ending today, Valentine's Day). I ordered the filet and lobster, was told this was no longer available, the Blood and Marriage drink special - not available, the Bacon Bourbon - not available.
I understand that there are currently supply chain issues, but it would have been nice if the waitress would have maybe even been a little bit apologetic, instead of pointing at the menu and stating "this, this and this is not available, sorry".
The food was great, filet and shrimp were as I would expect from a restaurant of this level. Presentation was a bit underwhelming. Our waitress Mary was friendly and professional, not the most engaging.

WOW! I've been wanting to try this Restaraunt for quite some time. I'm so Incredibly pleased I finally did. Everything here was amazing from the drinks to dinner to the service and ambiance. We started our evening with the Old fashioned and I was mighty impressed. Balanced, smooth, and one of the most impressive ones I have found in Omaha. We may have had 2. The blue cheese potato chips were ordered as our appetizer and they were phenomenal.
Crab cakes were outstanding and I dont order seafood much in Nebraska for obvious reasons. I would order these a thousand times again.
The wild mushrooms with truffle butter were absolutely delicious and melted in my mouth. Yum!
And the carrot cake *sigh* so so good. But I could barely eat my share.
J. Gilbert's exceeded my expectations and all items were cooked to perfection. In my opinion the menu is full of items with intense flavor and without a doubt perfectly crafted.

JGilberts is a great steakhouse. We enjoy the Prix Fix menu that offers 3 courses for 51 and 61 dollars depending on your choice. The service is amazing. Steaks are cooked to order and very tender. Don't expect a cheap meal, though. Our last bill was $170 for two.
Emily Marvin
My table ordered the cowboy cut ribeye with poblano potatoes au gratin and asparagus and the maple plank salmon. Both were fantastic. The ribeye was extremely flavorful and tender, making it the perfect steakhouse steak. J. Gilbert improved it, though, by making it very smokey. The same can be said of the salmon, which was very tender and flavorful. Of the sides, I highly reccomend the green beans and potatoes au gratin. The green beans were topped with delicious caramelized onions that reminded me of my mom's French onion soup and the potatoes were rich and perfectly spicy.
Our service was impeccable. Our server, Armando, was funny and charming and we never felt rushed throughout the meal. Since my table was celebrating a birthday, Armando brought a complimentary slice of chocolate cake and raspberry sorbet. The cake was wonderfully rich and almost fudgey and the sorbet tasted more like raspberries than normal raspberries. It was a perfect way to finish the night.
Of the beverage menu, my table ordered the pineapple and blackberry martinis which were both hits, but the blackberry was slightly better in my opinion. If you are a fan of of old fashioneds, you absolutely must get the smoked old fashioned. It is a stunning take on a simple drink and my favorite of what we tried.

Fantastic experience at J. Gilbert's! This is the first steakhouse I've been to in Omaha and it was great. Came out to $80/person or so, but definitely seemed worth it. Had some beers, the combo with steak and scallops, veggies and their cheesecake dessert. Will be going back!

Wish I took pics of food. First time here last Saturday. Made reservations without problem. Waiting seconds to be seated. So pretty inside. We sat at top and the Creighton Blue Jays we’re having a recruitment dinner. Food was delish. Had sirloin, med rare, mashed potatoes and Mac n cheese with lobster. My honey likes
To get salmon no matter where we go. He loved it. Also had the oyster Rockefeller. He even tried for first time and like it. Had left overs but was so upset I left it in car overnight. Seriously thought of eating it. We will be back!!!!!
Update: went back. Food still good and Jordan was awesome. I got food pics this time!

Stopped here as we got the timing wrong for our show at the Holland Center and had an extra hour and half to burn. I'm glad we did. We got the 3 course meal and everything was perfection. Our waitress was great! We were in and out and ready for the show with just enough time!

From the moment we walked in the door our experience was exceptional. Our server was beyond friendly & helpful. She shared with us her favorite items on the menu & explained the flavor & seasonings for each. I would highly recommend enjoying dinner with family or friends any time.

This was our first time coming here to J Gilbert’s. I got the combo filet with crab cake and oh my gosh was it amazing! Also got the bisque soup and probably one of the best soups I have ever had. We were celebrating our one year anniversary and my 30th birthday. I also couldn’t believe how amazing the steak was and was just blown away! They offered us a complimentary champagne toast which was very thoughtful! We finished it off with the chocolate cake and the carrot and all I have to say is wow!!! Even though our server was newer, Alexis didn’t disappoint. She was very attentive and nice and made our experience an unforgettable one! We will definitely be back and look forward to more delicious meals!
Amy Barry
Solid downtown steakhouse. We enjoyed the service from our wonderful waiter and all enjoyed our meals. One important thing to note is that three of us ordered filet mignons and we all ordered them medium. Interestingly, each steak was a different color and came out different, despite the identical orders. I am not complaining because mine was delicious, but some may find the steak doneness inconsistency disconcerting. Another tip is that I wouldn’t recommend coming early for a drink at the bar - it is very small and was completely packed. We had to go elsewhere before our meal.
Kevin Putman
Been wanting to try this place for a while. We did start off by having our reserved party of 4 sat at a bar high-top which was a little irritating. We requested and got a new table though so no big deal.
I ordered the Strip. Honestly wasn't a fan of the marinade/rub or whatever they used on their steak. It had an unappealing twangy taste I'm not accustomed to. The lobster Mac, crab bisque, and mashed potatoes were all phenomenal though! Will try something off the menus besides steak next time.
Joseph Heckler
Impeccable service and incredible food! It was crowded on the 4th of July but I was able to make a last minute reservation. I was very impressed with the steak and asparagus as well as the carrot cake. I was concerned with the bad review of the carrot cake but I'm happy to say that person was either wrong or the chef made a change since then.
Brandi Marchetti
We were with a large group, paid for by a supplier. Crab cakes have an amazing mango salsa, calamari was tender, shrimp cocktails were huge, and onion rings were amazing, and the house chips with some Bleu cheese and a warm melty cheese sauce were perfect. I split the 19 oz ribeye that was done perfectly medium rare. Wonderful side choices of lobster mac and asparagus, and I tried a scallop that melted in your mouth. 10/10 would eat there again. Creme brule for dessert was a very generous, yummy portion. I recommend the Silver Oak cabernet.

Had a fun time dining at J Gilbert's this past evening. Was one of three restaurants we chose to visit while staying in Omaha based on reviews and recommendations. It certainly didn't disappoint as I'm a fan of wood fired stove Steakhouses. It just adds a extra flavor to the food you eat.
The restaurant is connected to the Marriott downtown, but it has its own street entrance on the South side. The interior of the place is very nice, has a bar area, few dining areas and a upstairs section. I also liked the fireplace alongside one of the inner walls next to the booth seating. The staff were extremely nice and friendly with us. Our server Amya was sweet and did a very good job. I recommend her!
As for the food, it was very yummy. They start you off with Bread and butter like most Steakhouses. For appetizer we with the Meat and Cheese slate. It was fun guessing what all the food items were without looking at the menu. The main course meals were a Wagyu Burger with Yukon Mashed Potatoes, which was cooked medium and still very juicy yummy. I had the Bone-in Ribeye Cowboy Cut medium rare, with Lobster Mac and Cheese, Yukon Mashed Potatoes and the extra Grilled Bourbon Maple Shrimp. The steak was cooked perfectly and had amazing flavor with the seasoning, easily my favorite of the meal. My next favorite was the Bourbon Maple flavored Shrimp. They were jumbo size and grilled beyond expectation. Extremely delicious.
Lastly we got a complimentary Chocolate Red Velvet Cake to take home since we were too full to eat. It was yummy too! If we're back in Omaha again J Gilbert's will be on my list of restaurants to go to for sure.

Great place to eat! 3 course meal for $51. The steak is 4 oz but you WILL be full. The portions are really BIG. Full salad. Steak w/potatoes, asparagus, AND scallops. Apple crostada for dessert. ALL included. You will not be disappointed. Great deal! Only a picture of dessert, but the dessert took up the WHOLE plate...think about the other dishes.

Celebrated my 17th anniversary. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the service here. The prefix 3 course was delicious.
Brandon Lassiter
I got the bone in rib-eye and my wife got the 3 course pre-fixe with a filet. The service was pretty good. The food would have been perfect, it just lacked salt… every single item was under salted: the steak, the mac n cheese, the potatoes. And of course the tables don’t have salt at them. The truffle butter helped add some seasoning to the steak. Overall good restaurant, just add some dang seasoning!!
Update:
We came back 10 months later. Food blew us away!!! Perfectly seasoned and cooked. I got the exact same thing, 18oz bone-in ribeye and my wife got the same pri fixe, but this time they added scallops to hers. We were both VERY pleased. They added salt/pepper to all the tables but the steak didn’t need it. Only the Lobster Mac needed a pinch of salt. Updated from 4 to 5 stars. We’ll be back!

Really enjoyed this restaurant the food was absolutely delicious, the atmosphere was great, however the wait staff , a person cannot say enough, they were outstanding, helpful, friendly very knowledgeable and made the evening special. Thanks again for a wonderful evening.

We had our Rehearsal Dinner here this month and it was fabulous! We worked with Matt and Chelsea--they were both terrific! In fact, every staff member we dealt with from servers to bartenders to managers were friendly, very helpful and excellent at their jobs. We chose their second catering menu option which gave our guests a wide variety of choices for each course. Everyone loved their food. We also had a separate bar and cocktail hour before. The space in the loft was the best we found in downtown Omaha for the 42 guests we had. It was big, airy, pretty, and they allowed us to bring in any decorations we wanted. Plus they had wonderful screens to accommodate our video. Since our out of town guests were at the Marriott, it could not have been more convenient. Since I was from out of town, the attentive and knowledgeable help I received from Matt and Chelsea was invaluable. I most highly recommend this place for a private event. We also ate their twice before our event and loved our food and service!

We were greeted with a warm welcome, and the staff was very attentive. Our sever kansas was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed and more . The happy hour is also 100% worth going for . For $7, you get what you're paying for plus more. Happy hour drinks are also phenominal . I would recommend the smoked old fashion & the raspberry martini ! The atmosphere was very elegant . Steaks was cooked to perfection as well as being seasoned . I would definitely suggest the three corse meal price wise because you get the bang for your buck . You could share that meal for the girlfriend whose dainty and juat likes to snack . Also
Frank makes amazing drinks, so ahout out to him . Jay runs a right ship and makes sure the patrons are happy and satisfied. Happy holidays and cheers to the new years . Give this place a go and you wont be disappointed
Erik Frey
The food was really good, but a bit overpriced. We all had the fillets, I had the wedge salad with blue cheese.
I did not have a smokey old fashioned, tho I hear they are amazing.
J Kidd
10OZ Sirloin, one of the best steak houses in the country. If you are in Omaha and you eat steak then you must eat here. I recommend the bone in ribeye. I wish I would have ordered that....Next time.
Patrick Price
Smoke infused old fashioned is great and the steaks are perfect. The steak had a perfect inside and an incredibly flavorful crust.
JAMES KWABENA
Went with another couple. The food was among the best we've had in Omaha. I would rate it six or seven stars if I could. The salad was super and the steaks were so tender you could cut them with a fork. The salmon was delicious. Our waitress did an outstanding job. Will definitely return.

Returned recently.
Did the prix fixe dinner again. The price was $51 and $61, up from my previous review. This time my choice was the 14 oz Kansas steak
I upgraded to the lobster Mac and Cheese for an extra 6. It was very bland. We told the server and she removed it from our bill with no issues.
The mashed potatoes remains a winner.
My friends ordered other items. The lobster tails were good as well, but my favorite was the rack of lamb.
I also tried their blackened chicken penne pasta. That was good, but not outstanding.
I had the soup again, my friends ordered the salads. The portions are huge. That goes for the desserts as well.

First time going.
Disappointing non alcoholic selection. I asked if they could do something but was told they don't do mocktails by the server.
Fresh bread service. Served warm
Two butters. Both whipped for easy spread. One was plain the other was smoked pastrami flavored with no meat. The flavored butter was fabulous.
We came to try the prix fixe menu.
Both opted for the steaks 6 oz at 48 dollars. I upgraded mine too the 58 dollar so that I could have seafood adding the scallops. Comes with choice of soup or salad, a number of different entrees (ours came with 2 sides which we could choose even though there is a suggested pairing, with paying a 3.50 surcharge for the wild mushrooms and truffle oil) and a choice of dessert (from a list)
Soup crab bisque tasted great. Large chunks of crab in the center. Served at the perfect serving temperature (restaurant style, I prefer mine hotter, but good for people who don't want to burn themselves.)
My friend had the salad and exclaimed it was so good it didn't need the dressing. I did not try it though.
Steak was phenomenal. 5 stars
Scalloped potatoes was the best side we tried 5 stars
Asparagus was perfectly cooked with a nice smoky flavor. The ends were not trimmed high enough as it was very tough.
Skip the mushrooms with the surcharge unless you just really want mushrooms. They weren't that special, but were fine. I didn't really notice the truffle oil.
I wouldn't do the scallops again. For $10 and the pieces you got it wasn't a bad value, but it just didn't add enough to my meal. It was plain and didn't stand out at all. I would like to try the crab cakes next time to see if that may be better.
I would recommend this meal. I love prix fixe dining and their steaks were stand outs.
Photo taking isn't great on the second floor when seated in the hallway with pot lights. It didn't feel very intimate, but we were also two girls out in the town so maybe they thought we wanted to be seen. The hallway over looks the bar/lounge.
We chose 2 desserts...
Chocolate cake is very rich, sweet and decadent
Our favorite was the raspberry ice cream served on the side of the cake. It was velvety smooth
The berries with creme anglaise was ok.
The berries are fresh, but also quite tart as they weren't that ripe. For me it wasn't the best ending for a meal. The creme anglaise wasn't enough to cover all the berries to sweeten them. In this case I might have preferred mascerated berries for a more balanced taste, but if you want something tart then this might be too your liking.
The server was very friendly but not engaging enough that I felt comfortable saying what I did not prefer. He didn't probe or question when there were items left on the plate. Service was professional with a sense of humor.

We went to celebrate our 31st anniversary and enjoyed one of our best meals ever. I know the menu changes but if pretzel crusted onion rings are available, highly recommend this appetizer! Steak and seafood both cooked to perfection and sides were wonderful - can’t figure out how they make mashed potatoes taste so good!

Amazing service. Our meals were also exceptional, save for the vegetables. They were smoked, and tasted smokey. Not our favorite. Stick with a traditional roasted method, and customers will likely enjoy them more. Save the smoke for meat.
That said, we'll be back!

Top notch spot. Ribs are absolutely delicious and very large portion. Steaks... you already know these people do steaks right. The appetizers are great. The staff are very attentive and fun... especially my girl Maggie!!! Love you Maggie!! Prices are higher but they are to be expected in a place with so much to offer. get something to eat right now and ask for Maggie because she's the best.

Delicious food... Great place for share with family or friends.. so very nice!!

Absolutely excellent food, the pecan green beans and espresso martini were my favorite. My husband loved the Tomahawk Rib eye, which we shared. Our server Chris was great, he brought me this cute little tag for my dog, which I will attach to her bone, which Chris wrapped up in foil. We'll be back with our in-laws who love these high-end steak house.
Tarra Steele
It was all so flavorful and tasty, even down to the well thought out butter! We got the filet mignon and it was cooked and seasoned perfectly! You have to try there tortilla soup, it was light and brothy with so much flavor and the right amount of crunch and veggies in it. Mashed potatoes were soft not not mushy. Our server Chris was very attentive and gave great service. A great way to end the weekend. Complements to the chef and staff
Todd Graves
OMG! I don't care how much it costs. Get the Tomahawk! Perfectly cooked with a slight char, subtly seasoned with buttery, melt-in-your mouth tenderness. Don't feel bad if you find yourself eating all 32oz of meat. At least you helped out our environment by not using to-go packaging.
BUT WHAT IS THIS ?!?!? The loaded baked potato thinks it's the star of the plate! Greatest baked potato I've e ever had.
Stellar service. Great place to celebrate anything. Highly recommend!

Wonderful! 2nd visit and equally as good! Great service, atmosphere was a little noisy this time as many people coming in from the hotel attached and they were not the quietest (Easter Dinner). Prices about 60-80 dollars a person... so its definitely not a child friendly kind of place. Ample selection of wines and spirits.

When was the last time you dined in a hotel restaurant that was rated as the No. 1 fine dining establishment in town? J. Gilbert's Wood-Fired Steaks & Seafood in Omaha, Nebraska, lived up to its billing. Located in the Omaha Marriott Downtown Hotel at the Capitol District at 1010 Capitol Avenue, it is a tribute to Joe Gilbert, a legendary restauranteur and Kansas City restaurant icon. Open from 4 to 9 Sunday through Thursday and 4 to 10 on Friday and Saturday, it is a chic fine dining establishment offering classic steakhouse fare such as Midwest-raised USDA prime aged Black Angus beef plus fresh seafood that is flown in daily, all cooked over an open, mesquite wood-fired grill.
Robert Kalinowski
Had a great date night at J. Gilberts. Staff was very helpful in choosing some fun and delicious dishes and drinks. It's definitely on the expensive side but great for a special occasion. Try the ribs and onion rings appetizer!
Michael Mortimore
I visited J. Gilbert's for the first time for my Anniversary. I made reservations and at the table we were greeted with a hand written card congratulating us on our anniversary and we're given a complimentary dessert for the occasion. Our waitress new their menu like the back of her hand and gave AMAZING recommendations. The salmon and steak were cooked perfectly, would love to visit again!
Anshuman Bhatia
Everything was amazing but the steak. All the trimmings of a nice modern steak house, the design was really nice, great ambience. I sat at the bar and the service was excellent. A few local brews on tap, and seemingly nice cocktails. The menu is good, and I enjoyed the bread and the pastrami butter, my starter the shrimp Durango was good. My only complaint was the steak, it had all the trappings of not being cooked hot enough. No char markings or real crust and most of the fat hadn’t rendered, for $50, in Omaha for a steak I did expect more. I’d go back based on everything around the steak, and give it another shot.

When the kids are at Grandmas the parents will play! Tonight we tried out J Gilberts and what a treat!! Relaxed but upscale atmosphere, friendly service, quiet and GREAT food. We will come back but not with the rugrats any time soon. Not a place I would bring them. So no pictures of them eating but I’ll include one of their last day of school for good measure. It is, after all, the reason mom and dad are out celebrating! Thanks for great food, JG!
Lorann Eppert
Would 1000% recommend J Gilberts to anyone. We were greeted by Melanie our waitress and she asked if we had ever been before and we hadn’t, she walked us through the entire menu and helped recommend some really great options to try! From arrival to departure this over exceeded our expectations. The crab cakes were fabulous. The filet mignon and Kc strip were superb. Between my boyfriend and I we tried a good chunk of the sides. Green beans and pecans, mashed potato’s, the poblano au gratin potato’s and the mushrooms, each of these were so yummy and you just couldn’t go wrong. The scallops were also a MUST. They were so buttery and tasty. And the desserts were phenomenal, we had the chocolate cake and carrot cake. If we were to go back I would do it all over again but maybe get the cheesecake and the crème brûlée. I can’t say enough great things about Melanie. She truly took pride in her job and made our first time a memorable one.

Visited from out of town and ordered the filet and crab cake. Both were excellent and perfect portion size for sides. Enjoyed the ambiance inside and wait staff was on point.

Absolutely amazing, I love how they let you pick.out your own steak knife and my steak was so juicy it melted in my mouth. Wasnt as expensive as some places we have been to. Your main item has sides included. Very delicious. We definitely will be back.

I am on vacations in Omaha and decided to visit this place since it is considered one of the best steakhouses in the city. The place provides a complementary bread with butter which was good. I had a caesar salad along with center cut fillet mignon. The steak was good but I think the portions was very small for the price that was charged.
The server was nice and made me feel welcomed but I think he was checking up on me frequently than needed which didn't make me comfortable eating my food. I feel like I was being rushed. I arrived less than half an hour before the restaurant closes so apparently it will take me time to finish the meal.

We had a wonderful experience dining at J. Gilbert's! Bread was warm, drinks were perfect, and the food was excellent. The beef carpaccio was by far my favorite part of the meal. The server was very helpful and went back to the kitchen to ask questions when he didn't know the answer.
Jeff Simonton
Exceptional dinner and attentive service. Pork chop was wonderful, lobster Mac & cheese was an awesome side, though poblano potatoes were bland and greasy. Definitely something I would recommend and repeat.

We found our new favorite. We live about 40 miles south of Downtown Omaha and hubby and I had planned a little weekend getaway, centered around trying J. Gilbert's. So very very glad we did. The Smoked Old Fashioneds were absolutely perfect as was the blackberry martini which we enjoyed in the bar before our reservation. For dinner, we ordered from the prix fix and had the most creamy and fresh crab bisque we've ever tasted. We both had 6oz filets and I had scallops and he had the maple bourbon shrimp then we also had creme brulee for dessert and a bottle of Chilean cabernet as well.
***Steaks were absolutely cooked to perfection...one medium rare and one medium. They were so tender, seasoned perfectly and had the best hint of wood fired goodness. Hands down amazing.
****Scallops were so buttery and melted in your mouth and the shrimp's combination of flavors were perfect.
****Mashed potatoes and asparagus couldn't have been prepared any better and the warm bread with the whipped butter and whipped pastrami butter was outstanding
****Creme brulee is my favorite and not many places have it anymore but they do it beautifully.
An outstanding meal with impeccable service from our waitress as well. She knew her stuff.
Go. Just go. Worth every penny and then some.

The chef, Miguel, is one of the few people on the planet that can properly cook a steak Pittsburgh style. Chris did an amazing job waiting on us, his recommendations were spot on, and his service was first class.

Best. Food. Ever!
I am not usually a steak eater but I ordered the 4oz Filet (cooked medium) with a crab cake. The steak was AMAZING! The crab cake and lobster mac was just as delicious. I cannot wait to eat here again and I really wish they were in Oklahoma!
Gobble
One of the best meals I have ever had! The carrot cake was HUGE and was very tasty. In addition, great service!
Noureen Kassamali
We loved our dinner experience. We stopped in Omaha to have some steak and we were not disappointed. We had one of the best dinner we have ever had and coming from Chicago it was unexpected surprise. The steak was amazing but the sides were also delicious and ending with Chocolate cake with raspberry ice cream and espresso made it a perfect experience. Our server was David and he was perfect. He was courteous, friendly and right on with recommendations. We will come back to Omaha just to get dinner here again!

Nice place for a fancy date that can last 1 1/2 hours.

First time here. Bailey was our waitress and told us specials and helped us order. Started with the bread and the butter ummmmm yumm, salad with house “ranch” amazing. The steak probably the best seasoned steak I’ve had and don’t get me started on the Brussels sprouts….. all around 5 stars, customer service made it a 10!

I have been looking for large scallops and having a hard time finding them and when I googled it Google pulled up this place. The opportunity presented itself and so went it is rather pricey. But not anymore than Firebirds or Flemings or jams they have so much more interesting choices for side dishes like green beans with pecans and mashed Yukon potatoes and a fennel salad which was enjoyable. The only thing is is I also I got the lamb chops dinner and I didn't care for the sauce very much. I noticed the other choice I was thinking about was swordfish which is offered at not too many places locally but it was barbecued and I don't do the barbecue sauces like that. I think the lamb was too soft up you couldn't taste lamb but I would go again 😁
Sarah Murray
Love this place. Split a pre-fix meal and added a salad to it and it was perfect! So incredibly full. Smoked old fashioned is also very good!
Dale Huff
This is great place to eat! Wendy, our server, was very attentive and did an awesome job of taking care of us. Early Valentine's day dinner was made special because of everyone at J. Gilbert's, thank you!!
Marlys Nicolosi
Service was excellent! I had the crab cakes with asparagus and mashed potatoes. Our appetizer was pretzel coated onion rings. Dessert was was creme brûlée. My friend had the filet. Everything was wonderful! We will definitely be back 😊 …

Got Yelp’s “J. Gilbert's Wood-Fired Steaks & Seafood- - Grand opening in Capitol District!” notice and decided to go to the grand opening. The restaurant is a modern upscale steakhouse, with a casual dress code, located on the corner of 10th and Capitol. We arrived at 4:30 and we were greeted at the door by one of the friendly hostesses and were seated in the bar area. We had a table by the window overlooking 10th Street. It was a nice seat, but being in the Bar area, it was rather loud, so it kind of drown out the 40's 50's background music.
They have done a good job in training their staff. The service was outstanding, and our server Trever M. was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and the history of J. Gilbert’s. He explained all the specials and answered all questions we had about the menu, even though this was his first day of service. He also recommended a very good wine, B.R. COHN SILVER LABEL 2016.
The strangest thing I found in this restaurant was that they don’t have their own restrooms, you must use the restrooms associates with the bar in the Marriott Hotel. This requires you to leave the restaurant and go thru the lobby of the Marriott Hotel. I’s good for an after-dinner stroll to help digest meal, just saying.
I knew it was going to be an interesting meal when they brought the bread, a warm loaf with Risotto Creamy butter, which was both unique and delicious.
For an appetizer I had their Oysters Rockefeller. The standard recipe of spinach, bacon and parmesan; but well prepared and presented. Oh, it also tasted delicious.
For the main course my wife had their Wood-Grilled Ribs. A full slab of pork spare ribs, Kansas City-style BBQ sauce, French fries, creamed corn with bacon, salted baked potato, and creamed corn with bacon. The ribs were “fall off the bone good”, can’t be cooked any better. For me, I chose the Center-Cut Filet Mignon with a salted baked potato along with a wild mushroom risotto. As normal, I asked for my steak to be cooked Pittsburg Style (burnt on the outside with a cool center) and they prepared it perfectly. This automatically puts them as one of my top five steakhouses in Omaha, because most can’t prepare it correctly. The mushroom risotto was moist and flavorful.
For desert we had their Chocolate Velvet Cake. A moist chocolate cake with chocolate mousse, chocolate ganache, and raspberry ice cream. If you like chocolate, it is a perfect way to end the meal.
For just opening, I’ve very impressed with both their service and their food. I have only two concerns: the noise level was high and the fact that you have to use the restrooms of the Marriott Hotel, since we are both in our 70’s and there are stairs involved.
We will be returning around Valentine’s Day and I’ll get a boot in the dining area and find out if the bar area noise carries over.

The cocktails are great! The food was not well thought out. It was like they were going for what looks good on a menu, but the flavors didn't didn't come together right at all. The beef carpaccio was topped with way too much cheese that overpowered the meat and defeated the entire purpose of the dish. The blue cheese crisps were pretty good. The lamb was good, as was the mushroom risotto. The lobster wasn't great, nor the au gratin potatoes. The sirloin brochettes were terrible, with undercooked onion, tomatoes that were grainy due to them being stored in a fridge, and the sauce was too vinegary and overpowering. It seems like a place designed for business professionals looking to blow their per diem in one fail swoop. The old fashion and the waiter's great service are the only reasons I am giving three stars.
William Onwuka Jr.
The cesar salad might be the best balance that I've tasted. Moving onto the steak... Might be the best steak I've eaten in my life bar none. The seasoning used here was a great balance between flavors. I wanted to drive back the next day to eat that again. I should have ordered maybe two of them and really had a high level dinner. Everything about this place top notch.i wish I had this same place in New Jersey.
Michelle Loew
We celebrate our company Christmas in April in the Old Market area almost every year now for the past 10 years and we all agreed this was our best meal yet. They did a wonderful job of taking care of us and making sure we had everything we needed. The food was awesome and the service just as good. I would defiantly recommend this place to anyone. We will be back next year!!! Best steak house in the Old Market area!
Veola Henry
always a amazing experience love this restaurant so much great prices and food is always on point this is a special occasion or just a good lunch type of place always a great time
Michelle Fickes
I have never been there and was pleasantly surprised. Delicious food and the service was A+. Very pricey, but well worth the money! Sooo good!!
Jack Nelson
The manager was congenial even laughing at my bad joke. The bartender was attentive and makes an excellent martini! The food was well prepared and very tasty.
Brent Friedeman
This place has it all. Great value for the amazing food experience you will have. The wait staff was friendly and answered any questions I had with knowledge and a smile. Highly recommended if you are looking to catch up with friends, go on a date or have a great family meal.
Kayla Bryan
I had the Cajun filet and it was to die for. My husband and I shared the carrot cake which was amazing and big enough to have leftovers of. Also had an awesome waiter that took superb care of us and made the atmosphere that much more fun.
Nathan Appel
This is a SIX star review. I wanted to get that part out of the way before I dive in to this review.
My wife and I made reservations for J. Gilbert’s on Open Table, very easy process. We happened to arrive about 30 minutes early and the place was PACKED! We decided to go to another restaurant, that also happens to be a steak place, nearby for a quick drink while we waited. Our drink stop was not busy at all, my first clue that J. Gilbert’s was going to be a nice experience.
We returned to J. Gilbert’s to check in and waited to be shown to our table. If I were to pick one nit it would be that the front end staff seemed a little disorganized but it could have been due to the rush of people on a Saturday night.
We sat down at our table, the ambiance of J. Gilbert’s is very nice, perfect for a date, special occasion, or an upscale business meal. The aroma of the culinary delights ahead filled the dining room air, it was amazing.
Patrick was our server, folks, Patrick is in the top 1% of servers in the nation. I don’t know if someone is actually keeping track, or if there even is a database, but if there was, he would be in the top 1% for sure. He knew the menu inside and out and his recommendations for drinks and cuts of steak were spot on. He was engaging and his sense of humor significantly added to an already great evening.
The steaks were mouth watering. I had the Ribeye and my wife had the Filet, both were cooked to perfection, jam packed with flavor. Not to be outdone, the sides were also delicious. I had the Au Gratin Potatos, Brussel Sprouts, and my wife had the mashed potatos…everything, wonderful. To cap off the evening we had the fantastic Carrot Cake with some coffee, yum!
We will be making a stop at J. Gilbert’s every time we are in Omaha from now on, guaranteed!
Thank you Patrick for a job well done. GO BRONCOS!
Norman Kromberg
First visit to J Gilberts. Started at the bar for a martini. It was made perfect. The bartender was knowledgeable and friendly. Made me want to eat at the bar. I was there for a group dinner so I had to move. I had the steak special with mushrooms. It was great.
David Nelson
Sat at the bar and enjoyed the quick service and attention although there weren’t many patrons in the place. Decor is very nice. The menu has many options for beef and seafood. Ordered the scallops and the taste was very nice but wasn’t overly impressed as the scallops appeared just a tinge raw and the plate was bathed in butter. Would’ve enjoyed something green on the plate. I might have ordered a salad but was advised that there wasn’t anything small available. I may return again to try something else on the menu.
Zack Whiting
Great food, great drinks, and awesome staff. We went here for our anniversary dinner and had a great time. They even presented us with a Happy Anniversary card.
syarges
I got there just in time for some h.h. oysters which were just okay, but still good. Would have loved it with a mignonette sauce. The steak however was perfect and those au gratin potatoes were on point. I had a smokey old fashioned and that was very good as well with a great presentation.
Andrew Ray
Great Service and the food was delicious as well. I had the duroc 14oz bone-in porkchop with yukon mash potatoes and lobster mac & cheese. Also had the smoked old fashion which was nice as well
Tim Kleinschmidt
Excellent dinning experience! We were visiting from Minnesota and wanted to see if Omaha's steaks lived up to the hype. Superb! Had a fillet and scallops, Would highly recommend. Great staff as well.
Bimina Maharjan
Just wanted to take a moment to compliment the service we received from Jordan this evening. You guys were super busy, the restaurant was at capacity, and she was fantastic! Me and my bestfriend went here for dinner last night and we ordered Maple Plank Roasted Salmon and wood grilled ribs that our server Jordan suggested. HANDS DOWN the best salmon ive ever had. Love the atmosphere of this place and their service best service!!
Alisha Bourne
One of my favorite places to eat. I get J Gilbert’s to go and eat in. Tonight I reserved a table for 10 to celebrate four different family anniversaries. Jackson, our server, was exceptional! He knew the menu and wine list like the back of his hand. He took his time making sure we all were taken care of. He’s been the best waiter I’ve ever had there so definitely ask for him! We had crab cakes, calamari, onion rings, shrimp, steak, scallops, salmon, lobster, and so much more and everything was cooked just perfectly and tasted amazing. We would recommend the smoked old fashioned, pineapple martini, and their oak barrel Chardonnay. You will not be disappointed in this meal or atmosphere!
BENJAMIN PINCUS
Great place food was good and service dynamite. Restaurant was quite loud probably should use table cloths to muffle the noise.
Rebecca Kyba
This place was amazing! By far the best Caesar salad we have ever had (almost a meal in itself) then we had the crab cakes! They were out of this world. Huge portion. The carrot cake was phenomenal! We wanted to go back the next night for their steak but they were unfortunately closed. Also comes with warm sourdough bread to start which was delicious (speaking of delicious then Moscow mule is a must!). Can’t wait to try their steak when we come back to Omaha again! Great service, mouth watering food - 5 star place for sure

First, you must have Nick as your waiter. The secret to a great dine in experience is who waits your table.
Once you secure Nick like a seatbelt. Then sit back and enjoy the well crafted wonderful menu selection from steak to seafood. Soups and appetizers like crab cakes and calamari. And if you just can’t pick something well theres blackened chicken penne pasta which was delicious. But honestly just ask Nick. Very attentive, polite, knowledgeable and professional. Nice guy!
Restaurant is located inside of The Marriott. The ambiance is great though it’s a bit dark inside. Best for dates, celebrations or business dinners.
You can valet your car for free but be sure to tip out of courtesy.
Enjoy!
Alex Dragic
Really great food and atmosphere, the filet mignon is soft and done just right. I've been here two times, and both times it was excellent. Will be returning.

I really wanted to like this place. The interior is really nice, decor is brilliant, the lighting is perfect, it feels upscale and homey. The server was fantastic, very friendly and attentive. We made a reservation for 4:45pm on a Saturday through their website with no issues.
We arrived and there was only one or two other tables seated. We were seated promptly. About half-way through our dinner the place filled up. So definitely go early if you want to avoid the crowds.
We opted for the three-course dinner. Calling it “chicken tortilla soup” is a bit of a stretch. The primary flavor was a smokey bacon. There was plenty of chicken, and the broth was good- but definitely not what the name suggests. The only resemblance to a “chicken tortilla soup” were the tortillas crisps on top. The crab bisque was much better and I would opt for either that or a salad next time.
I got a 6oz. filet with scallops, Poblano Au Gratin potatoes, and Brussels sprouts. I requested medium-rare and ended up getting a steak that was raw in the center. One side was burnt pretty heavily which left a slight bitter taste. I pointed out to my server the steak was still raw, barely edging on rare, and she apologized and had it put back in the grill.
The potatoes left something to be desired. They were very oily and occasionally had a bitter taste, I suspect someone didn’t remove all the char from the roasted poblanos. They lacked seasoning and the potatoes could have used a few minutes to get more tender.
The Brussels sprouts were hardly roasted and pancetta was nowhere to be found. I actually re-heated them in a pan at my house to get a good sear and char and they improved a lot. The biggest disappointment was the scallops. They were bland and the sear was only on one side. Everything was just begging for more seasoning.
The chocolate velvet cake was alright, very rich and a good portion. I wish the mousse was lighter, it was very thick and more like a frosting. The cake itself was on the dry side. The flavor was good.
Overall my experience left something to be desired. For the prices and reviews I was expecting to be blown away, but was left wanting. You expect a certain level of quality and consistency when you come to a place like this and they didn’t deliver. They could of just had an off night, but this experience definitely doesn’t make me want to come back anytime soon.
Michael Kirkland
Our waitress, Sarah, was special. Made us feel like important guests. The food was exceptional. But, alas, like almost all upscale restaurants, it was so noisy that you couldn't carry on a conversation. I don't think we could go back for that reason. For the younger crowd, if you like people talking and laughing at the top of their voices, then this would work for you.
Kendra Griffith
Delicious food. Wonderful staff as well.
Dewey Weddle
I tried this restaurant on a recommendation and was not disappointed. The steak was cooked to perfection, as was everything else. The service was good as well. If you're traveling to Omaha you definitely need to come here.
Jeanne Lamoureux
Another delicious dinner at J. Gilberts. Everything on the menu looks so good, and it did not disappoint. The restaurant has such a good atmosphere, with a really cool touch of getting to select your own steak knife. We had Wendy for a server. She super nice and attentive, and her husband works in the kitchen- how cool! The free valet is just an added bonus. It’s the perfect place to grab dinner before any event downtown.
Jackie chan_WTF
So when I was visiting Omaha, of course I had to go to a steakhouse. So I looked on Google and saw this place had a solid 4.8 stars.
I was definitely not disappointed. I ordered the $53 "cowboy cut" ribeye steak, and it was cooked perfectly! Friendly staff and great atmosphere.
Wesley Taft
Easily in my top 5 favorite places to dine in Omaha. Tucked in the corner of the bustling hotel, it’s such a vibrant atmosphere and the food is second to none!!
Also, their craft cocktails are dangerously good. 🥃 The smoked old fashioned and the barrel aged Manhattan are among my favorites.
Jacob Fedorchik
J. Gilbert's was a wonderful steakhouse experience. My wife and I visited for date night and our wait staff was very knowledgeable and very helpful. They had a special for tomahawk ribeye and lobster tail that was a great price for the food we received.
Food was top quality and I would recommend this restaurant to any one looking for a steakhouse in downtown Omaha!
Josh Harper
Absolutely amazing! Wife and I went there for our anniversary and the food, atmosphere and staff were phenomenal! We will definitely go back!!!
BK 526
Highly recommend! Went with $46 Tier of the Prix Fixe menu. Started off with the Maryland Crab Bisque. Was the best crab bisque I've ever had. Followed that up with the 6oz. fillet, grilled asparagus and the Brisket ‘Burnt Ends’ Mac & Cheese. The mac & cheese was delicious and full of burnt end chunks. The fillet was cooked to perfection and full of flavor. Finished things off with the Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee. Out of this world it was! Will certainly be stopping back here the next time I'm in town!
Mark Spengler
First time here with customers great experience. Well done highly recommended. Great steaks and sides.

I reserved a table for this weekend (1/29/22) to have a nice dinner with my girlfriend for Valentine's Day since she might not be local when the day actually comes. Started off with two of their whiskey cocktails (Maple Bacon and their own made Manhattan), both extremely well-made and potent. We both decided on their "prix fixe" 3 course meal: salad/soup, main entree with sides and dessert. Everything was going well until within 2 minutes, we received our salad (only maybe a minute after receiving our drinks). It was a little quick but we shrugged it off. Then, only a few bites into the salad, our entree w/sides came out. This felt highly irregular since we had just received our salads. Our server, Jackson, also noticed this, immediately apologized, and offered to send it back to be re-made later when we were ready for it. We were a little shocked at the offer and just decided to continue eating. However, we brought it up later and Jackson made concessions to comp some of our meal. Later, his manager, Fatima, stopped by to also apologize and took off even more of the tab. This made us feel very valued as patrons and they really turned our experience around. Thanks for looking out for us Jackson and Fatima.
Britny Harrison
Absolutely in love with this place! Food was absolutely amazing! Staff was perfect and it had a elegant flair!
Deborah Jensen
Everything is delicious. We've never had a bad meal. They even gave us a dessert for our anniversary.
Michael Ping
Great ribeye and the smoked old fashioned was terrific.
Steve B.
Came from out of town for a family dinner and it was awesome! I had the 14oz KC Ribeye and it was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The wine was excellent too. Our server did a great job as well. I'd come here all the time if I lived in town
J J
The steak here is wonderful. True midwestern, high-quality beef cooked to medium rare perfection. The sides were decent, as well. The service was incredible and we had a blast with our waiter who had great tips for what to order (and travel tips because he was also a flight attendant- added bonus).
Katherine Sivret
Here to say that our server Jackson, deserves 5 stars. He was attentive and provided excellent suggestions.
Pass on the bread though, it’s not the best sourdough around.
The creamed corn is amazing. Just a little sweet and creamy. Corn straight off the cob.
The filets and scallops were cooked perfectly and melt in your mouth.
Lastly, the cheesecake was delicious, but they wasted precious space with some sort of cake layer.
Again, 5 stars for the service. He was excellent. 4.5 stars for the food.
Swimbro Van Leeuwen
Best steak in Omaha. Ribeye is melt in your mouth good.
Appetizers are excellent across the board. The crab cakes are the closest thing to Maryland crab cakes in Omaha, I could eat then all day. Pretzel onion rings have a great crunch.
However, the sides (aside from the mushrooms) are poor to average at best. The lobster Mac and cheese was a huge disappointment: dry and mostly flavorless.
The mushroom risotto also got rave reviews, but I didn't try it myself.
J Smith
Expensive, but worth every penny.
This is a great spot. High quality dining, but not pretentious, at all. We recently went for my wife's birthday, six of us total. We ordered crab cakes for appitizers and they were very good. Ordered drinks and I got the smoked Old Fashioned, it was a show in itself. It came out in a dome of smoke and it was released at the table. It was VERY good. While we were not her only table, the waitress was great, very attentive and patient with the kids. Food came out and was excellent, all around. Dessert was also a great way to finish the meal. Overall a great night out.

I didn’t want my meal to end. Everything was so darn good. Will be flying in for dinner from Utah again soon.
Amy W
Came for the lobster claws, but the smoked salmon stole the show. Cocktails were flavorful and well-balanced. Cannot wait to come back for dinner sometime!
Blake Barnes
Awesome experience! Nice dark atmosphere, ice cold beer, and the steaks and wagyu burger were truly next level! Our server David was excellent! Will be back next time I’m in Omaha!
Haim Haviv
The steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Service was very attentive.
Chris Manes
Food was exceptional and Mya was very knowledgeable. Enjoyed ourselves immensely.
Kristin Von Rump
The service was world class and the meal was excellent. We would highly recommend this restaurant.
William Lenagh
Top quality all around, beautiful seafood and gorgeous steaks. Price point is a steal for the quality you receive
James
It's a nice restaurant and the staff that helped us was very friendly and professional. The food could be better especially for the prices. Steak was almost could as requested, medium rare, but was cooked closer to medium/medium-well and a bit tougher than I'm used to when spending $50+ for a steak. If you enjoy steak, you can give this place a chance when you're downtown, but I wouldn't recommend it as the sole reason to come downtown, there are many other places that offer steaks just as good, if not way better and you don't have to deal with downtown traffic and parking. Over all, the atmosphere was decent, but that was mostly to the people I was with. Other then that, this wasn't a memorable meal by any means. The service is what saved the rating to at least 3 stars.
Ghia G
Kansas was our server and the service was excellent, very knowledgeable and friendly with a professional manner.
Paul Ruiz
I’ve always been a ribeye type of guy, never really understood why people rave on about Filet Mignon but my god J. Gilbert’s changed my mind! That steak was truly amazing, you could cut it with a fork! The whole experience was great the food, the waiter, and the atmosphere. This place blows all the other high end steakhouses away in my book. My girlfriend doesn’t normally do a lot of red meat a lot but we plan on returning within the next week.
Jerry Tomczak
We were in Omaha for a basketball camp and didn't really have steakhouse attire. We did stay at the Marriott where the steakhouse is located though. My twin boys and I Really enjoyed it. Enough so that we felt it deserves 5 stars.
Jan Shuey
As always, JGilberts never disappoints. Our server, Kansas, was so well informed and helpful. The cocktails, dinner, and wine were exceptional, as always!
Jaime Jara
Lovely ambiance, fantastic service with music that is just as appealing. The drinks are well done, and the meal exceeded expectations. A wonderful experience I wish to enjoy again.
tory mckee
My boyfriend and I went to this restaurant for supper before leaving to go back home (we are not from Omaha). It was amazing and our server Melanie was fantastic, she was very knowledgeable on the menu and super sweet. This will definitely be my new place to eat when visiting Omaha.
Conor Treacy
As always, the food is top notch. Our server, Ryan, was awesome and went above and beyond to meet and exceed our requests. Couldn't be happier.
Scott Preston
Although the steak was not the best steak I've ever had, it was very good. All the other food, appetizers, and sides were very good. Drinks were very good. Our server was outstanding. Prompt, friendly, knowledgeable, and checked in in us often. I would go back!
Steve Johnson
We highly recommend J Gilberts! Everything we tried was cooked to perfection! The wood-fired flavor was SO good! We had the wedge salad, fillet, shrimp, crab cakes, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. Their bread is excellent also!
Kayla Moore
The steak was pretty good but the sides I chose were a little disappointing as there was a lack in taste. But if you’re looking for a steakhouse that you can get good Omaha steak for a good price, then this is def the place!
Jo Garcia
Got 10 oz sirloin with mash potatoes and Brussels sprouts. Flavor on ever thing was amazing. Cook on steak perfect but cook on the Brussels sprouts was bad. They where charred but raw. Tough to eat. Sad because they tasted good. Just couldn't chew them.
Tammy Meyer
Crab cakes amazing! Stay away from the chicken penne...service not so good.
Melanie Moore
I was surprised by how much I thoroughly enjoyed J. Gilbert's. I'm in town briefly for work and visited a more expensive steakhouse last night. Though the dining experience was different, J. Gilbert's was certainly the better deal. The steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly, plus it came with two sides - both of which were excellent (unlike the "fancier" steakhouse where each side was extra) and some wonderful fresh bread. Happy Hour went until 6:30 with some reasonably priced, delicious cocktails (and very kind bar staff). If you're staying near/at the Marriott, you certainly can't go wrong here.
Elizabeth Cummins
My husband and I absolutely love J Gilbert’s. The staff is always welcoming and friendly. We visit often to celebrate all of our big occasions like birthdays and anniversaries. The food is phenomenal and the drinks are fantastic. It’s the perfect date night spot. Can’t recommend it highly enough.
Eric Cssey
Amazing. Starts and ends with the staff: the greeter was welcoming... and then our server, Maggie, was just awesome start to finish. The dinner for four was plated and served to perfection. Foodwise, everything, and I mean everything, was absolutely delicious and well presented. We did steak and seafood combos...oh my.
John Holcomb
Food was delicious and our server David was most excellent ☺️
Ryan Oshiro
Excellent Filet Mignon ordered medium and it was to perfection. Great sear and texture throughout, seasoned oh so slightly, no need for sauce here folks, sides can't go wrong with Yukon mash potatoes and honey Sriracha grilled carrots balance everything out and top it off with house vanilla ice cream!
Cicely Simmons-Carroll
Ambiance was amazing! Our waitress(Rachel B) recommended some amazing food choices and the food was amazing! Great dinner to cap off our business trip!
DANIEL DANIEL
Generally have my steak prepared medium it came well done and surprisingly it was extremely moist and tender. I had the sirloin and I believe the cooking of this steak is definitely in the top 3 of all times. Usually, I'll finish only about 3/4 of a steak but, I finished all of this one. Baked potato was outstanding. Not sure how taste buds feels about the bread and the pecan green beans but I will definitely dine with this restaurant again
Tonya Lee Bundy
Food was amazing we celebrated our anniversary ❤ here it was great staff is also very friendly
Eric Esron
Went there for a date with my wife on my birthday. Customer service was extremely awesome. Food was great. And price was reasonable. Going back in 2 weeks
Laura LeBron
The atmosphere was great. The staff was wonderful. The drinks were well made. The food was excellent. We sat up stairs and that was quieter than the main floor.
Abbi Andersen
My date and I ordered from the Prix Frixe menu. Both had a filet and he also had a crab cake with the listed sides. The salad was large and their house dressing was good. The mashed potatoes were very tasty, asparagus was fine and the steak had great flavor but was dry. Was kind of disappointed because we had heard such great things. The chocolate velvet cake was ri h but the cake portion was also dry. Luckily it came with a scoop of raspberry sorbet to help with that aspect and also to cleanse your pallete because it was soooooo rich! Will have to try something different next time to see if we can have a great experience that others have had. I will mention, the service was fantastic, and we usually have poor service, so that was pleasant.
Paul Hilderbrand
Overcooked my specifically ordered kc strip...but competed me a beer. Dave is a great bartender and enjoyable live music in the bar on Sunday evenings. Great wait staff!
Tina
This place was sooo delicious. We started at the bar and the espresso martini was the best ever. Then we went to the table service was excellent. The steak was tender and delicious. The salmon was melt in the mouth good. Potato gratin, roasted carrots and roasted brussel sprouts were so good.
Join their club and for your birthday they give a 25 gift card and a dessert. Which omg so delicious. Large wine choices. Hmm.
J Reed
Very nice place for a date night. Enjoyed the vibe inside and the decor. Definitely will be visiting again.
Sean Maday
The steaks were disappointing, but the staff was very friendly and the sides were delicious.

My son made reservations for Mother's Day at J Gilbert's. This restaurant is a favorite of mine and we always ask to be seated in Holly's section. Holly's service is very attentive and she makes a wonderful Espresso Martini. We both ordered the Surf and Turff with the crab bisque and two sides. Everything tasted so good. Dessert was included and I chose the creme brulee which was very good.

J Gilbert's was absolutely outstanding. Portions of food are generous. Great variety of meats and seafood. Our server Ian knows how to take care of his tables. Would recommend going there to anyone looking to try some wood fired food. Prices are slightly higher but servers like Ian are what make people want to come back again.
Andrew Kung
Cowboy ribeye was very tender and juicy, fat to meat ratio was great
Veronica Gilbery
Great place to have dinner. The staff are friendly, service is great and the food is amazing! I highly recommend the lump crabcakes. So delicious!
Jamison Dean
Very good place to grab a great steak ... the ribeye was great and the smoked Infused old fashion was amazing!
Trenton Sullivan
Overall experience was good. Service was awesome. Food was just ok. Steaks were under seasoned and the lobster mac was so full of onion that it masked other flavors.
Bryan Holen
Great atmosphere and service. My pork chop was a little grisly but everything else was great. I will be back!
Gavin Oakman
Great service and even better food. Good atmosphere right in downtown. The ribs are great. If you have room for dessert, get the carrot cake. Great drinks too.

Had an early Valentine’s dinner. Was looking forward to it. Hadn’t dined here since before Covid.
Disappointing meal. Filet was perfect temp. But everything was lukewarm. Very strange. Added scallops - again cooked perfectly but not hot. Side of mushrooms not hot. Au gratin potatoes were warm so that was nice but overall the meal was just okay. For the price - and occasion - disappointed. I’ll
take Fleming’s over this place any day.
Todd Santoro
One of our happy places. Bartenders are always great and good food.
Eric M.C.
This place was amazing! We had a phenomenal dining experience and our server, Mary, was absolutely wonderful and extremely helpful. She explained the menu and everything else to our party and made sure we understood everything and answered any questions we had. Our party ordered all different dishes, and there was not one single complaint about the food whatsoever! In fact, everybody was more than satisfied with their orders.
It is a top notch place, and would highly recommend it to anyone. Keep in mind that it is a little higher priced than other restaurants, but it is worth every cent!
I will definitely be going back the next time we go back to Omaha!
Thanks for the wonderful service and amazing food!
Chris Sorensen
The food is pricey, but it is so good. The service was great as well.
Andrea Walker
Always great food. You even get pick your own knife.
Toni Hairston
Server really didnt care to return to the table to see if needed anything further. Had to flag down a server from another table. Had the cowboy cut ribeye with augratin potatoes. Potatoes were the best I had ever had. The steak had good flavor but was very dry and chewy. Have definately had better steak experience.
Jeremy Halliburton
Hands down, the best restaurant I have been to. Everything is always cooked and seasoned perfectly. Drinks are on point. Staff is amazing and friendly. Pricing is reasonable considering what you’re receiving. J. Gilbert’s is my absolute favorite restaurant of anywhere I’ve been.
Kira P
We've been to every steakhouse in Omaha and this is our new favorite. The restaurant was super busy due to an event at CHI Center, however, we never felt it in the quality of the service or food. Bring your appetite because the portions are huge and so delicious. We'll be returning very soon.
Chad Bell
Our favorite place in Omaha.
The steaks have an excellent flavor and are great quality. If your are into steak sauce, their in-house sauce is really good.
Poblano Au gratin potatoes are excellent, creamed corn with bacon is on point. Crab bisque is outstanding and a family favorite.
Kids Mac and Cheese is excellent for the kids and their salmon on the kids menu is tasty according to my son.
Nice wine selection and of note their maple bacon old fashioned is worth a try..or three!
They also have dessert on lock. Ice cream is made in house. The raspberry is out of this world. Creme Brule is very good, chocolate cake is best choice on the menu as you also get a scoop of the raspberry ice cream. Cheesecake is a bit different and not well liked by my family.
Service is top notch. Everyone is friendly, professional and attentive.
Overall a great place to celebrate any occasion. J. Gilbert's gets my highest recommendation.

I have never had an Omaha Steak in Omaha. Was passing through and had to try it. Was coming back from ice fishing in ClearLake, Iowa. Kinda grubby, but had a hankering for a fine meal. The time was approx 5 P.M. on a Thursday. Plenty of room and no waiting. I felt underdressed but hunger prevailed. Was seated right away, no crowd.
J.Gilbert's is primarily an al a cart restaurant with a fantastic menu. For appetizer I had Shrimp Durango. I grew up on the coast, and seafood was a staple. This dish had a great presentation but lacked in flavor. The shrimp was fresh and that suited me fine. Next I had a very expertly made bowl of Crab Bisque. It is hard to find a great Bisque. I cannot say enough about this bisque. Creamy, very well flavored, I ate it as it came. The bisque needed nothing. I give it a perfect 10. Next, I ordered a Ribeye, medium rare. It was perfect! Don't know what else to say about it. The Omaha Steak cooked on west texas wood was an Epicurean delight. I had also ordered the sauteed mushrooms. A little lemon juice and a dash of salt set them off perfectly. The side that came with it was a cream corn. I had never had a cream corn prepared this way. It was completely wonderful. I ordered a to go plate as well. The wait staff were very very professional. The next time I go through Omaha, I will be stopping again. Maybe by that time, they might have a shrimp scampi. 🙂

I had heard about J. Gilbert's, but did not know much about it, except that it is expensive. I was a little bit disappointed by the service and the atmosphere. The food was very good. I love when bread is served on wooden boards, but it can be messy. We were seated at a table in the middle of the restaurant, and I just felt like I was sitting in the midst of a loud unruly crowd. I suppose if you like that atmosphere it is fine. I would say that it is pretty good, since the food was good, but I usually expect more for cleanliness, atmosphere, and service at these prices.
Michael Clark
The food was fantastic!!!!! The steak was perfectly done and had a little, just enough, wood smoked flavor! The add on scallops had a great flavor to them!! The lamb was awesome!!! Drinks were great as well. The waiter Eli was great! He gave some great suggestions and parings for drinks and food. He also stopped checked back how things were. One of the managers, Matt, stopped by to ask how things were. Definitely a place tongonfor a special occasion! The bill will set you back a bit, but it is totally worth it!!!!!
Made another trip to J.Gilbert's. Our waitres Sylvia was amazing! She definitely had great suggestions on food and drinks! Very nice lady and also very attentive but not over bearing. The food was fantastic as it was a month ago!! Great place to have a special dinner or celebrating a special occasion!! They definitely treat you right!! Thank you Matt, for keeping the experience just as great as the food!
Jamie Divoll
This is by far my favorite steak house now. The food was absolutely delicious. Our waiter was awesome, he helped us pick a great dinner choice. He was in point to a T. My steak was cooked to perfection. The bottle of champagne was delicious. We will definitely be back!!!
Julie Blankenship
Amazing, never disappoints! If you are wanting a little extra special night or are downtown and just want a treat… not inexpensive, however for a fine dining experience, this is it for value and atmosphere.
Where to begin, love the atmosphere, polished yet welcoming. The wood fired smells the moment you arrive tells you it’s going to be a great night! Attentive staff, check.
The steak tonight and every time I’ve been here, simply perfection, the delicious wedge, a sparkling cocktail, the eclectic mix classic lounge and present music, just enough to add to the night.
My tip, if you are getting a soup or salad, always get the prix fixe! It’s a great value as you get the added dessert, and let me warn you here… must save a little room for the crème brûlée! I’ve also sampled the carrot cake and chocolate red velvet AND cheesecake. All great!
Honestly, I have not had a single miss here. It’s just consistently great every time.
Lamae POLITE
Great food great service. Our waiter was the best.
D. Jason Murphy
Fantastic atmosphere with a contemporary decor. A friendly and knowledgeable wait staff puts guests at ease while the dining experience progresses. I was equally impressed with the wine & cocktails selection as I was with the variety in the food menu. Paralyzed with indecision from the plethora of tasty options, I selected the lobster salad as a 'lighter' option, but soon found I was presented with much more than I anticipated. Not to worry as the flavor and texture combo were a delight.
A great meal and a return visit for sure.
Chloe Gonzales
Amazing service and ambience! The food is also fresh & delicious. I am not a steak person, but the chicken was phenomenal. I would say I was a bit underwhelmed by the sides - felt the mashed potatoes and veggies could be seasoned a bit more. Dessert & drinks were fantastic. We plan on coming back as soon as we can!
Kathy Ryan
We went on a Thursday and sat in the bar area. I ordered maple roasted salmon with lobster Mac and cheese and asparagus. They brought out a small loaf of sour dough bread with regular whipped butter and pastrami butter. I tried the pastrami butter, you can really taste the pastrami, it was good but I like plain ole butter. The salmon was delicious, cooked perfectly with just a hint of maple glaze on top. The lobster mac and cheese was creamy and loaded with lobster, bite size lobster that you can really taste. The staff is very knowledgeable and attentive, it was a very good experience. I will definitely go back.
MiamiTabor “Al Bondigas”
Great steak as ordered! Very fast service. I will be back.
Lynn Tall
"You get what you pay for." holds true here. Worth every penny.
Dan Ostergard
Pleasant ambiance, efficient service though not especially personable... food was off the charts terrific!
Bronson Boosalis
Highly recommend. A top steakhouse contender with a wood-fired taste that is exceptional. Our first time was amazing and it definitely won't be our last. Also unlike the traditional 50 dollar steak then 12 dollar sides this is steaks with sides included and they are delicious!
Myla Loecke
Apologies- posting this about a month late & I don’t normally write reviews but I had to for this wonderful place! My boyfriend and I were in town for the Doobie Brothers concert, we were looking to find a nice upscale restaurant with a good steak. This place goes above and beyond! Waiter was attentive, steaks were cooked to perfection, & the atmosphere was gorgeous. If you want to be treated like royalty and don’t mind spending a couple extra bucks for a night, stop by! Seriously every aspect of this establishment is phenomenal. We didn’t hesitate and most certainly didn’t mind leaving the waiter a very generous tip on top of the bill. Also forgot to mention, they were very generous in acknowledging our six month anniversary and even left us a very nice hand-written note (how cute :) as well as a complimentary dessert of our choice. Thank you for the great experience! We will be back!
Jennifer Rohde
Words cannot even describe how exceptional our experience was! From making our reservation to dessert, every aspect of the meal was superb, including David who was very professional, personable, and fun! Wouldn't change a thing!
WHEN we return, we would love to request him! It was a fantastic way to end a weekend with family that was visiting from out of town! We WILL be back to celebrate our next special occasion and will definitely recommend to others.
Alex Bitton
Wanted a nice supper without breaking the bank. This meal was worth every cent, great menu descriptions from the server who asked about our food interests and gave excellent recommendations. Also probably one of the best smoked old fashion's I've had!
Kyle Herren
Awesome new restaurant in downtown Omaha. Great selection of wines the atmosphere was nice. I would recommend the lamb or the plate of ribs
Tim A
The whole experience was awesome. The first steak I ordered wasn’t very good, showed the waiter. Didn’t hesitate to order a new one. Very quick and professional. Insiders tip. If you have a chance ask for the second story seat above the bar, you can smell the smoked cocktail every time they make it!
Sam S
Oysters and blue cheese potato chips are amazing appetizers! I tried the caesars salad and the wedge salad, gotta say the wedge was much better the caesar was overly spicy and couldn't eat much of it. We both got the 4 ounce filet hers was cooked perfectly. Mine was under done and had a giant tendion in it. She got the crab cakes I got the shrimp we both agreed the crab cakes are way better. Shrimp wasn't bad I just wished it was more savory instead of sweet.
Reg T
Wasn't impressed with the lobster macaroni and cheese but outside of that everything was fine.
Michelle J
The boyfriend and I came here to celebrate his birthday. The staff were all very courteous. We were asked if it was okay to be seated up stairs, and we were fine with that; it was our first time coming here and we didn't have a preference. Our waiter seemed new but was attentive and polite. I ordered a medium filet mingon and it was perfectly cooked, very flavorful steak. The boyfriend ordered his favorite, ribeye, which was also cooked to his liking. The lobster mac and cheese was well flavored, not too saucy. The poblano au gratin had a nice kick to it, but was extremely greasy, the oils were pooling within the dish. Overall, the food was good, but in my opinion it is a bit overpriced. I have had delicious steaks elsewhere for less. We enjoyed the free birthday dessert though! The chocolate cake was very rich.
Though the food was good, there was a downer to our experience. I was hoping to have a nice intimate dinner with my boyfriend but just as our food arrived, a group of about 8 people came in and were seated right by us. They were EXTREMELY loud and boisterous. I wish that the restaurant could have taken into consideration that we were there for a special occasion and not put a big party right next to us. It totally changed the ambience. There were plenty of other places within the restaurant and we saw lots of empty tables when we left.
Barbara Vieyra
Loved it!! My fiance is really picky about restaurant food. He was very impressed. The service was top notch. Definitely will be back. This was our first time in Omaha.
Jennifer
Typical hotel steakhouse. Wine selection was very good. Decent selection of steaks for those of varying appetites. Side sections were a bit of a miss. Two of my choices were out so I ended up with asparagus, which was not very good. Lobster mac n cheese was pretty tasty but not really worth the $4 up charge. Regular mac n cheese would have been better. Service was great! Waiter suggested excellent wines that made the table happy... hard to do with a large group.
K B
Everything was ABSOLUTELY amazing. Armando gave us phenomenal service on Christmas Eve. Best meal and service we've had in a long time. Thanks for making us feel welcome and making us laugh throughout our time there!
Glee Smith
We stayed in a hotel nearby and I can tell you this is one of the most special meals I’ve had. Atmosphere was perfect, our filet mignon and all of the side dishes were perfect and had a great selection of wine and bourbon. And the treatment and staff were absolutely amazing!
JANN HOFF
Killer grilled lamb, risotto and spinach. Great service, food and drinks. Please go and check it out for yourself!
Chris Stubenrauch
Stupidly good. Incredible steak, probably the best I had in my 3+ years in Omaha.
D Forbes
Words can’t express how amazing the food and staff are here. Me and my wife and friends all went here for our anniversary for dinner. From start to finish everything was fantastic. The salad, steaks , drinks, sides, desserts were all amazing. This is a definite place to visit. We will be back very soon.
Kristy Powell
To start our server was amazing, he was very attentive and knowledgeable about every question we had, from the food to the wine. Lance was awesome. Everything we ordered was so amazing with all the flavor. The lobster Mac and cheese had the best blend of both. My man says the ribeye was the best in Omaha he has ever had and he is so picky with the food. Carrots I didn’t care for.
I will be spreading the word about this place for sure!
Adam Ogura
Really, really good. The food and service was excellent. Wife and I enjoyed the fixed price menus and cocktails. Excellent wine select as well.
Elspeth Barriault
The service was excellent. We tried a variety of appetizers (seafood platter, calamari, onion rings and house chips) and they were all delicious and large portions. I loved the entree sides (potatoes au gratin, Mac and cheese with burnt ends, Brussels sprouts and green beans). My top sirloin was overdone. It was good, but not cooked how I'd requested. The Porterhouse was delicious and tender. For desserts, I tried the cheesecake, chocolate cake, creme brulee, carrot cake and coconut cake. All were great and very large portions. There was an extensive wine and spirits list and people in my party that ordered drinks thought everything was fantastic. Overall, a great meal!
Paige Luebbert
We were very impressed with this place. For an upscale steakhouse, this place was very reasonably priced. We ordered the filets, and they were the best we have had to date. They also came with two sides. Between the two of us we had four different sides. The wild mushrooms, asparagus, creamed corn with bacon and augratin potatoes were all killer. Do yourself a favor and add truffle butter to your steak for a measly $3. The cocktails were reasonable priced. Our service was impeccable. We could not have enjoyed our meal anymore!
Jill Hahn-Jakulski
For the second time in a month, I ate at J. Gilbert's (Omaha). On both occasions, the food was phenomenal and plentiful -the crab cakes and crème Brule were my favorites. Also on both occasions, Holly was my server/bartender, as I chose to dine at the bar since it was just me. In addition to being able to enjoy the amazing food the at J. Gilbert's, I also enjoyed and appreciated the professionalism and kindness shown by Holly. She seems to have a deep foundation of knowledge about the restaurant/bar, able to provide detailed information about any and all aspects. Even better, she is just a delight. Thank you, Holly, and J. Gilbert's!
M Baker
We had a lovely meal here while visiting Omaha. The food was very good. We had a pre-fix menu that was way more food than we probably needed, we left stuffed!
The highlight of our dining experience though was our waiter, Armando V. He was attentive and made the dining experience very enjoyable. I asked for a Rum Old Fashioned. I really liked the Rum he chose & he brought the bottle over so that I could see what it was & take a picture for future reference. It was Bumbu by the way. Absolutely delicious!!
Pam Hoffman
Awesome restaurant! I would give it 10 stars if I could! The salmon and the chicken were fantastic. Meal came with fresh bread, it was delicious. Everything was cooked perfectly. Large selection of wines. And the chocolate cake was fantastic. The restaurant was beautiful and clean. Would definitely go again!
Alexis Rollins
Nice restaurant with VERY generous portion sizes. Excellent drinks. The salmon with the bourbon glaze was delicious & the filet was very tender. Our server was fantastic too.
Kyle D
Really nice place, but it wasn't our cup of tea. A little too noisy and busy. It was very hard to have a conversation. Food was delicious, but it's definitely high end. Not the typical place we go as a couple, but we still enjoyed the service and food.
Jimmy Allen
3 Course Meal is an excellent deal. For $58 you can get 3 really spectacular items. Mine were the Wedge salad, NY Strip. And Chocolate Velvet Cake. Wedge salad was fresh and bacon bits it were rral and gave it a kick. New York strip was excellent and mesquite grilled. Finally, the Chocolate Velvet Cake was rich and creamy. A dessert to die for and if I ate one of these every day I just might. Overall this was an excellent culinary experience.
Kayla J
The lamb so tender and service one of a kind. Great for special occasions
Heather Faulbaum
The food was delicious as was the wine. I paid more than I wanted to but the experience was great. I give 4 stars because I had to send back my mid rare steak because it was still very rare, and it was still very rare when it came back to me. Maybe the cut was just too thick. - Update 4/8: Thank you for the quick reply Mr. Jones. I am not local, but I will definitely eat at J. Gilbert's again if in the Omaha area!
Phil Cady
I was in Omaha for a convention. Knowing I had to have steak while I was here, I asked the experts of every city where I should go. Those experts are always the local police officers. They pointed me to J. Gilbert's.
The steak was prepared exactly as ordered - medium rare. Everything was delicious. Starting with the appetizers all the way through desert. Even my Old Fashioned bourbon was made expertly. The serving sizes are also quite generous.
I'm from California where everything is way more expensive than it should be. So I'm not sure if J. Gilbert's would be considered expensive or not. I felt the price was very affordable for a fine steak house. My steak, 2 sides, appetizer and bourbon came to $90. Outstanding if you ask me.
Our server April, was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. She definitely defined what service should be at a nice steak house and made our dinner an even more enjoyable experience. Go here. You'll be glad you did.
Sarah Calderón
I was really impressed to say the least. Our server was very helpful in offering suggestions and was spot on for everyone’s orders. The price fixe was awesome and I got to eat a little of everything. It’s a great place to go for date night, anniversaries and birthdays.
D K
Used to be able to choose your own steak knife here, and that was cool. Maybe not anymore due to Covid, but nonetheless, steaks (NY strip and filet) were remarkable. More so the filet, and not just due to tenderness, but flavor as well. Sides were ok. Wine selection standard for this level restaurant. Service was good, but nothing noteworthy. 🥩🥩🥩🥩/5

Our server Amya F. was an absolute gem. She knew every item on the menu and was able to give us in depth descriptions of the items we had questions about, as well as make suggestions that we loved. The food was fabulous, the setting was nice and quiet, and the service was immaculate.
Riah
First time here for my daughter's 13th birthday. What else is there to say other than amazing! The food was delicious, big servings and priced reasonably for a steakhouse. Our server Chris was personable and even brought a dessert with a candle on it for my daughter to make her b-day wish!! Very thoughtful and heart warming since most restaurants exclude a candle. My daughter ended up keeping the candle as a keep sake. We will definitely return and recommend.
Doron Kapitulnik
Indeed, Omaha ribeye is amazing!
Medium rare. No sides!
benson marvin
Good service in the top ten of the nice looking places I have been. I don't post them all. It's pricey but the food is great. So treat yourself or someone you like.
Lynn Leaders
My first time at J Gilbert's! Group of 4 of us. We got the crabcakes and onion rings for appetizers. The crabcakes were super good, and the onion rings were good but really heavy. I had the 6 oz filet with the shrimp and they were bothe very good. For desert we shared the chocolate cake and the cheese cake. I had a smoked old fashioned and it was awesome.
The atmosphere and service were great. Prices seem fair for the experience. I will definitely go back again.
John Bowen
We had a great dinner experience at J. Gilbert's, including excellent quality of food and service. Bone in Ribeye was outstanding. Taking advantage of the excellent half off wine on Sunday actually made it turned our experience into a great value too. Very good service. Very nice atmosphere. Overall excellent experience.

Atmosphere was great. Didn't have to yell across the table to speak to our party. Amanda our server went above and beyond for my wife and here allergy concerns. House drink special was the bomb. Steak was cooked to perfection.
Jacky Castro
Husband and I decided to celebrate my birthday/our anniversary on the 8th here. Our server, Maggie, was so fantastic! She was kind and super attentive. She came around frequently and made suggestions as needed/requested. They say never ask a server for suggestions, but she was spot on with her recommendations. We ordered from the 3 course menu. I had the 6 oz filet with the crab cake, mashed potatoes and asparagus. The filet was melt in your mouth tender. I mean one of the best filets I have ever had. The crab cake was phenomenal. It was so flaky and delicious. Husband had the 14 oz strip which was also super tender. He had the lobster mac and cheese and let me tell you, AMAZING! By the way, I started with the wedge salad. Probably the best wedge salad I've ever had. The housemade dressing and fresh bleu cheese were out of this world. Please go here, people. It is soooo worth it. You definitely get what you paid for!

Out of all of the Steak houses in Omaha, J Gilberts is one of the best restaurants you can find. As someone who doesn’t eat fish, I can personally only vouch for the steaks and sides—but if that is what you’re there for, I promise you that you will not be disappointed. I have been to this restaurant 4 times now and there was never a time where I left hungry or disappointed. Their portions are huge and filling but also so delightful. When dining at other restaurants in town, I feel like I’m often picking between small, expensive portions that are delicious or large, price friendly portions that are “just okay”. Not here though. J Gilberts serves you a lot of marvelous food for your money! Everything is so delicious that I felt bad even letting a single bite of steak go to waste.
Additionally, I will say that my boyfriend does eat seafood and can recommend the lobster macaroni and cheese. Every time that we’ve gone, he eats his entire portion of lobster macaroni and cheese before he even takes a single glance at his meal.
My only complaint about this restaurant is that I feel like I need to be carried to my car after how much food I’ve eaten :-)
If you live in Omaha or even are just visiting, I highly recommend letting J Gilberts take care of you and your loved ones!
Aaron Thornton
I’ve been wanting to try J Gilberts for some time and we finally did. My wife had the filet and lobster. She loved both. It came with very thick, dense and very good mashed potatoes and some asparagus. The asparagus was under cooked and still crunchy. Her Cesar salad was very good as well. I had the NY strip cooked medium rare. It was cooked perfectly. The creamed corn w/ bacon was VERY good and the poblano au gratin potatoes were a good choice but not good enough that I wouldn’t try a different side. My wife had chocolate cake served with ice cream and fresh whipped cream. It was a solid 10. I had the carrot cake. The carrot cake was obviously pre sliced and kept in a fridge as it was overly cold. It actually took from the flavor and texture. I took it home, let it sit on the counter over night in its package and it was much better the next day at room temperature. Our steaks were the best I’ve had in Omaha, even better than the Drover. We’d definitely come back. If they could fix anything it would be cook the asparagus more and serve the cake at room temp and not so cold it’s kinda solid and the frosting is stiff. Still got a 5 star from us.
Ken Echols
Hands down absolutely the best steak I've had yet . I know peace always say that .but I'm a retired chef ,and I have a deep passion for beef mostly Rib steaks. The steak i ordered had been dry rubed and aged then cooked to a perfect medium rare and cooked over pecan wood gotta tell yha the sweet kiss of pecan and fire really creates some magic for the ol tastebuds yes sir. When brought out the smell of seared beef greets you and then you see it in all of its beefy goodness .now there is no need for seasonings .and damm your soul if you add sauce and no need for a knife either .from the first bite to the last the dry rub which is a wonderful compliment to the stk .it was truly a work of love . And the best I've had yet. Not to mention the service was of high caliber and the side was absolutely great .
Karen Hollins
This place is amazing! My husband and I celebrated our 28th anniversary there and the food was outstanding!! Our waiter Eyan (I think that’s how you spell it) was awesome! I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Kerel “Mr. Successful”
Absolutely the best steaks I have ever had. My girlfriend and I enjoyed the service and the food very upscale restaurant. Make sure you have plenty of money for your date, yes it's expensive but it's well worth it for promising food and great atmosphere!
Billy Odom
What a fantastic meal! Highly recommend this restauraunt, our filets were superb and perfectly cooked. The maple shrimp were delicious as well as salads and sides (and cheesecake). Will be back when we can!
Kaci Cink
Amazing service and amazing food. You can’t go wrong with choosing this place.
Chris Shupe
This was a birthday celebration dinner and I love a place that gives you a birthday treat. Also a big fan of a Prix Fixe. My 6 oz filet was butter, tender and crispy on the outside. Everything is wood fired. I highly recommend J. Gilbert's for a weekday dinner or celebration. Friends recommend the happy hour so I will be trying that soon.
Denise Goin
From the staff to the food a wonderful dining experience
Mark Pfeffer
Food was really pricey. We all ordered fillet steak. Out of 4 meals, none of the steaks were done as ordered. One was seared but raw on the inside. The manager replaced that steak but it came back medium well instead of medium rare. Clearly the chef had no idea. Also kind of a nice place and most all the wait staff was dressed professionally except for the person that seated us who was dressed in a bright yellow t-shirt that had "Kodak" printed on the front in big red letters, which was clearly way too tight. Although the manager tried to make things right this place is way too expensive to go back based on our experience.
Sherry Hambrick
Not just an average stuffy steak restaurant! This place is non-stuffy first class all the way! The beef was perfectly prepared & very juicy & flavorful. Had the Brussels sprouts & salted baked potato. Both were exceptional. It was part of the $46 prix fixe menu that also included a soup or salad & dessert. The Caesar salad was great with crispy parmesan topping & the Apple tartlet was divine. Awesome wine list. Not a carnivore? There is plenty for you too!
Michelle Haag
Delicious every time. Service is great. Love the general atmosphere. It would be 5 stars if they would turn the music down just a bit and maybe not play music that you would hear at any sports bar in town. It would be more in line with the price point and overall classiness of this restaurant.
Kelly Nafziger
Was amazing... went for anniversary and had some of the best food I have had since covid. Nick our server was so personable and professional. Great recommendations. Received a free anniversary dessert. Amazing and we took another home. We will be back. Thank you
R Moore
My wife and I had our 1 year wedding anniversary at J. Gilberts this past weekend and they never seem to amaze us. We had our 1 year dating anniversary at J. Gilberts as well a few years back and they were great then. The food is amazing, the wine is amazing, and the staff is amazing.
I had flowers delivered to J. Gilberts from Stems Florist and they set the table up with the flowers and put us in a somewhat secluded booth for us to sit. Every thing was just amazing and if anyone is looking for a anniversary or special date night this is the place to go. All around great place.
Brandon Stone
We booked a table shortly after CWS games had been rained out. While it was busy, the staff did a great job handling it all. Our server, Pedro, was phenomenal! The food was great (better than the Chop House in Denver!). We'll definitely be back.
Cory B
Wow wow wow. Steak was cooked to perfection and was ultra tender. Baked potato got destroyed, shell and all and the Mac and cheese was outstanding. Pleasently surprised on how great this place was. Maybe my new favorite steak in Omaha. Very clean inside, waitress was friendly. Definitely worth the stop if you enjoy steak. We will for sure be back!
belinda black
Went here for a special occasion, and they did not disappoint. The staff was friendly and informative; they even wrote a nice handwritten card to help us celebrate our occasion. My date had the cowboy cut ribeye, and he said it was one of the top steaks he had ever eaten. Everything tasted delicious and fresh.
doss barnhouse
My wife and I had finally got to try your restaurant with our friends for Morhers Day. The experience and food was amazing. We had a couple porterhouse steaks and filets along with some calamari and spinach artichokes appetizers. Everything was spot on. So I would like to thank our waitress and the cooks for a wonderful dinner. We will definitely be back. Thanks again to everyone.

Amazing food and the service is top-notch! One of the best steakhouses I've visited recently. The food is amazing, the steaks are dry aged and the said is as fresh as can be. If you're looking for an upscale place to impress, this should be your "go-to!"
Anthony Yates
The atmosphere was great for my girlfriend and I’s anniversary, and our server Lauren was also amazing! Very knowledgeable and accommodating to all our requests. The lobster mac and cheese, and creamed corn with bacon sides are to die for, as is the bread and pancetta butter! My steak was cooked just the way I like it with a ton of flavor and juice! Their homemade steak sauce tastes like a maple bourbon sauce and is awesome. Definitely will go back
Bobby Marmo
Fantastic food. Great service. Probably our favorite spot to celebrate anniversaries and birthdays
Scott Albers
First Class dining experience, we had two business meals there this week, Kyle and his Team were on point. The food, the service and atmosphere were great. We had great feedback from our Team on the selection. Thank you for Making it Happen!
James Saitta
Steaks are a little hit or miss, but the rest of the food is really good ... Holly and David are very, very good servers. The Crab Bisque is great, and the good NOT being Ala carte saves some scratch. We go often... You should too.
Tamara Kunz
My husband and I went to J. Gilbert’s for drinks and appetizers last weekend and we were both extremely impressed. Our bartender, Megan, was fantastic!! We highly recommend the smoked old fashion - you will not be disappointed! The food was delicious as well. We will definitely be returning and bringing our friends and family here :)
Josh Tapio
Honestly one of the best meals I’ve ever eaten. Everything about J Gilbert’s was top notch. From the staff, the decor, the drinks, and most importantly the food, everyone in our group loved it. Our server, Wendy, was wonderful and made some great recommendations. We can’t wait to come back!
Megan Dyer
Our meal was hands down one of the best meals we have had ever!!! The steak was cooked to perfection, tender and so amazingly delicious. The pork chop was equally as tasty. We had the mac and cheese with burnt ends, creamed corn with bacon and yukon mashed potatoes and again... so so good!! As if that wasn't enough we topped it off with the fruit croustade which was quite honestly the cherry on top of an exceptional meal!! Our waitress, Wendy, was prompt and friendly and made sure our meal was thoroughly enjoyable. Ask for her if you go!! The experience and the meal were absolute perfection!!!! We will definitely make this a regular date night tradition.
Herb Wetzel
One word... exceptional! Awesome from the appetizers to the dessert! The carrot cake is a meal in itself! Best slice ever! Our server Lance was most professional! Thanks. We’ll return!
Casey Hagan
Very good place but also very expensive..this was for 2 people
Nancy Watson
Food was absolutely delicious! Steaks were cooked perfect with great flavor. Wait staff very good! I'll definitely be back!
Angie Weinberger
Just had a wonderful meal here. I like how this restaurant spreads out people for social distancing but it looks nice. Gilberts also has an app that allows you to pay contract less, gr a at feature. They are a great choice, obviously well thought through how to make this a safe diningexperience for everyone. And the food is great.. Loved my oysters and the Wagyu burger was perfect, I wouldn't change a thing. Delicious, perfectly cooked. Wish I had room for dessert. The homemade sourdough bread did me in.
David S
My wife visited for Happy Hourlast Friday and it was awesome. Holly was our bartender and could not have been more gracious and fun.
We made reservations for the next night for my wife's birthday. I had the filet, she had the filet and shrimp combo. Both were amazing.
Staff, food, service, ambiance, all so good.
Leslie Ahern
The food was amazing. I had the cesar salad, scallops and filet, mushroom risotto, and wild mushrooms. Absolutely fantastic, well seasoned. The blue cheese chips were to die for. Husband had pork, beef tip macaroni, and rissoto and he loved each bite. He also had a smoked old fashion drink and it was also great. I tried the crab cakes and crab bisque which was also steller. The dessert was also fantastic. Great service and atmosphere. Well worth the price, the quantity and quality of food was outstanding. Loved the heater in the entry way too as it was super cold out. We will be back for sure!
Mairah Ambersan
Very worthwhile experience, the steaks were absolutely as good as they were said to be.
erik rhee
I'll be honest. I wasn't expecting much given that we had gone through Maine for seafood and through Chicago when we came here on our way home to Denver. The crabcake appetizer was amazing. Tons of crab and not much breading.
My son had the ribeye and I had the filet - both were excellent but the ribeye was definitely the better choice. Side dishes were delicious. The mushroom risotto was my favorite. Great meal, excellent service. Highly recommended!
Chronica
Very Nice Father's Day Experience. My 1st Time Dining Here. Staff Was Great. I Chose The Prix Frixe, Salmon, And Chocolate Cake. Everything Was Perfect!
Thor Schrock
Great food and massive portions. Come hungry! Service was grea . Rachel was our server and she didna wonderful job anticipating our needs. Dinner for 2 with no drinks was about $75, but the food and service quality could easily be worth a much higher price. Keep up the great work!
Vigilante AtNite
My steak was done perfectly however my salmon was a bit dry and crisp. Overall the service was very good and everyone in my party enjoyed their meal and the atmosphere.
Tara Elyssa
Amazing traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all the favorites and special touches like crab bisque. Friendly, well-trained staff and careful attention to detail.
Laura Mack
I brought my sons in this evening to celebrate my son's 11th Birthday. Amaya was our server and she was an absolute delight. Even though Tyler wasn't our server, he suggested a fantastic wine. Andrew was playing the guitar and singing soulful classic rock songs like he does most Sundays. My tomahawk steak was cooked to perfection, medium rare, crisp and charcoal on the outside. I took some bites of my sons food. Both the lobster tail and the lobster mac was delicious. Everyone was super friendly and welcoming. Will definitely celebrate many other Birthdays and other occasions, like Tusedays at J. Gilbert's
Teri Hand
Amazing. Everything was great! We will be back next time we are in town. I had the filet mignon, green beans, and au gratin potatoes and creme brulee for dessert. Plus the yummy bread and house salad. Best dinner in a long time! The price is right on, you will spend a little more than your average dinner but it is so worth it, and it doesnt break the bank.
Lexx Zy'Aire'
The ambiance was great..The food was excellent..the bartender had outstanding customer service...definitely an Omaha must vist and return place...ummmmmmm
Tami Soko
Came here with our 4 year old and 3m old and we were greatest with open arms. Wood fire flavor is throughout the entire menu! The pick 3 option is definitely the way to go! Husband said the filet was one of the best he's had (and he's from Chicago) and I had the bone-in Strip!! Service was wonderful and the treatment to our toddler was very kind! Thank you for giving us great memories on our trip! We will be back... Maybe without the kids!
Zachary Klein
Best steak I have ever had!!! Honestly from the Ceasar Salad, pretzel covered onion rings, Their amazing bread, and the desert this has been the best meal I've ever had. Such fresh ingredients. My new place to eat in omaha!
Brandon Preston
One of the best Kansas City Strips I ever tasted with a Smoked Old Fashioned. Great waiter (Ean) provided me and my family with the royal treatment. Will come back.
Jack Schnepf
Great food wait staff where very nice. I ordered the coursed dinner and it was phenomenal. Great bang for your buck, I got very full very quickly. The bread was great as well.
Sam Ashford
Had a phenomenal experience last night. Everything from the service to the wild mushroom risotto, the burnt ends mac & cheese, the filet; all were flawless! Next time I look forward to trying the Caesar salad and the pork chop since they looked incredible. Last but not least, the music playlist is top-notch!
Joan
The food was outstanding and our waiter, Armando was very friendly and helpful. We have been here several times and will continue to go back again and again. I highly recommend it! Wish I could give 10 stars.
Gary Bittner
We loved their food for years when we lived in Kansas City. So glad that they opened up a location in Omaha. Their location and decor in the Marriott is a nice modern take of a classic steakhouse. We will definitely be back.
Danny Johnson
Stopped in for dinner on our wedding anniversary. This was our second visit to this location and again the service and food was amazing.
On this particular night there was a live band playing, great addition to the location. We will return for another night of great food and great service.
Krista Daly
We made reservations 3 weeks ago and were excited about trying J. Gilbert's for the first time. Upon arrival, we were offered two choices of seating: a table next to the entrance or a high top also next to the entrance. Both were located in the bar. Neither was what we expected having booked several weeks in advance. After being told reservations were very tight and they would see if there was another option available, we were very comfortably seated in the dining room. Wait staff was very friendly and helpful. I ordered a filet/shrimp combo with poblano scalloped potatoes and burnt ends mac and cheese. Various parts of my meal were rather inconsistent. While I very much enjoyed the filet, the shrimp was overcooked and Mac and cheese rather flavorless. The potatoes were good but lukewarm. For the price, I expected better.
12/17/18 - email sent to address supplied, Ron. Look forward to chatting with someone from your team.
01/26/19 - Just a quick update to let everyone that is reading these reviews know that neither Ron or anyone from his team has followed up with me. At this time, I have to conclude the offer was disingenuous and was posted so other patrons would think the issue was addressed. Very disappointing.
Michael Winn
I live near the McLean Virginia location, so I was intrigued to stop at the Omaha location. The staff was amazing, especially the bartender and manager on duty (election night 2020). Wellfleet oysters shucked perfectly, and my steak was perfect, along with the nice conversation from the the staff. During these crazy COVID times, it is nice to find some normalcy. Thanks!
Michael Morey
The atmosphere was warm and inviting and the staff was friendly and efficient. The food was amazing. My son's birthday celebration will be one he remembers for years to come.
Jah Lioness
Great steak and fish! Staff is friendly and prompt. Loved the savings for my birthday as well. The only issue I had was the flies and they didn't cook my steak the way I wanted it but it was still good! Will be back for sure! The carrot cake was also good
Aron Foster
Amazing steaks, great atmosphere, skilled wait staff. A must-visit!
Cody Logston (Bathtub01)
Ohhhh I can't describe how good the filet was! It was AMAZING. I can't wait to go back. You 100% get what you pay for and the quality was excellent. Coupled with the awesome service and great food it is one of the best restaurants.
Connee Geise
Fantastic food and service. Only (minor) complaint is it's pretty noisy. If you're looking for a quiet or romantic place to have a private conversation this is not it. However the food and service more than make up for it. It's a great atmosphere for most occasions.
Tom Hawkins
Great service, reasonable prices and GREAT food. Server made great suggestions for these first-time visitors. Can't wait until COVID is over so we can see our server's smile. Thanks and God Bless.
maggie sweany
Wendy is a rockstar. The GM is a rockstar. I give these guys serious props for dealing with guests during an otherwise unexplored realm of fine dining. Fine dining is tough. Covid is tough. These guys are tougher.
We chose the Prix Fixe. The wedge & cesar salads; both had the perfect amount of toppings and dressing. After that came the filets. A perfect mid-rare, and outstanding sides accompanied. We were too full, so we took the enormous desserts home. I have no doubt they’ll be spectacular.
From the first point of entry, to Wendy’s lovely bedside manner, to the kitchen & service staff’s impeccable timing, to the GM (I didn’t catch your name, friend!) it was a delightful experience. You can tell this is a smoothly run ship working in tandem as a hospitality family.
Hats off to you guys. We’ll be back!
Randall Harrer
One of the best steaks I've ever had!
Brian Nordstrom
The food was amazing, Patrick was the best server we've had anywhere in a long time. Highly recommend!

Dustin Lieber
This is absolutely my favorite place to go for dinner. Steals are wonderful! Margaritas are the best! Everything is amazing! Matt always takes the best care of us when we are there.
Derek Morris
My wife and I decided last minute to eat out in Omaha, and this place came up when searching for steak houses. We both had fantastic meals, her the scallops and I the steak and crab cakes. Also, be sure to try the pineapple infused vodca!
Brent Blankenburg
They really know how to treat a guy here! I was so impressed with this restaurant! The food and service were both top-notch and they really go above and beyond! Would love to go back some time!
Albert Chang
I ate at this restaurant on my last two nights in Omaha. Both times I has the prix fixe dinner. The first night, I started with the wedge salad with blue cheese crumbles; my entree was a six ounce filet with a crab cake and my dessert was an enormous coconut cake. On the second night, I had the same salad, followed by the fourteen ounce strip steak, accompanied by lobster macaroni and cheese. On both nights, the serving staff boxed up the leftovers--it became two meals on the train ride back to California on the Amtrak California Zephyr.
Daniel Golding
Incredible steaks and seafood. Not what you expect at a hotel restaurant. Try the burnt end Mac and cheese or the creamed corn. Scallops were perfect. I didn't really care for the tortilla soup but everything else was amazing.
Chase Tanner
All of my visits here have been nothing but excellent. The food and service has been superb. This place has become my go to steakhouse in Omaha. Terrific steaks and other entrees, and their sides are fantastic! Prices are reasonable for the atmosphere, services, and quality.

Overall the food was good, but my wife's filet came out extremely rare and cold (she ordered Medium). That was disappointing for a $60 steak.
Brenda Dolinski

Leon Fox
This place is wonderful! Their staff is all very friendly and personable, their drinks are extravagant, their steaks are absolutely perfect in everyway! Highly recommend this place but be prepared to spend some money, in the end it's all worth it!
Amy p8
The steak was so-so. Cooked as requested but the meat flavour not that great. Service was good, but since this is a steak house I really have to rate based on the steak, and since this is a mid to higher price point, I rate a 3 star.
Tatanisha Gipson
Wasn't to bad. Good food. Would be will to try again.
