One of the iconic food establishments in Newark. Do not let the looks of the place fool you. Some of the best pizza and hot dogs I've ever had. The pizza def has those NYC roots with its thin dough and chewy crust. The sausage slice is so good! Real sausage slices not that crumbed stuff. Oh and the hot dogs. You've never had a hot dog like the D's. Taters, onions and peppers, and whatever condiments u want. Worth every penny. Don't forget to tip the nice staff.

Came back to the old neighborhood just to indulge in a decadent delicious double hot dog!!! It’s worth tolerating the somewhat seedy neighborhood, double-parked cars and idiotic “drivers” with their booming blaring music. What won’t you do for this culinary experience??? We weren’t disappointed! You gotta have a double at least once in your life… this was my first in more than ten years! Loved it!!!!

Nice place to visit for an old school Jersey kinda experience. Hotdogs and Italian Sausage sandwiches served in pizza bread. I wished the ingredients were more mixed so the flavors were more combined together but it was still a yummy sandwich. The pizza was good, especially eating in the shop and having it hot out the oven. Walking a block away to Calandra's bakery for dessert was an added bonus!

Heard about this place from a co-worker and decided to check it out. I ordered a double dog with everything on it with ketchup. It came with two hot dogs,potatoes and peppers stuffed inside of a piece of Italian bread. It was amazing The inside of the place has an old school Italian pizza place look. It made me remember growing up in New York. If you're in Newark near Bloomfield avenue check it out

Listen... if your hungry & you want THEE BEST meal, stop at Dickie Dees in Newark NJ!! I grew up on Dickie Dees, but 33 years later, I still can't get enough!! I order from them minimum two times a week. Single hotdog with potatoes (well done- so perfectly crispy on the outside, but still so delicious and soft on the inside) with ketchup- YUM! The pizza is the cheapest around yet still an amazing pie (my kids LOVE it)! My husband gets the Cheesesteak with the works- another beyond tastey dealbreaker (better than anything you'd get in Philly)! Go get yourself some Dickie Dees & thank me later!!

This is simply the BEST hot dog ever invented. Been eating here since before I could walk and while I now live several hours away I still make the trip just for a dog and their excellent pizza. Do yourself a favor and order a double hot dog, a slice of pizza and a grape soda.

I don't know how anyone in the right mind, could give this place anything shy of 5-star reviews! Their Italian hot dogs, pizza and cheesesteaks are 100% old-school NJ at its very finest, and 100% delicious (as in, out of this atmosphere). Everything is made to order. Clearly, they've been doing something right, as they've been here since the 1950s! Must be tasted to be believed! Enthusiastically recommended to all. A+++++

Whenever I am in NJ this is definitely a have to spot. The food is definitely filling and is reasonably priced. I miss this place so much that whenever I go I order 2 or 3 things off the menu. I have to get a couple slices of pizza, an italian cheeseburger, and an italian sausage. The bread is fresh the potatoes are amazing. There is no losing here.

Dickie Dee's is a staple on Bloomfield Avenue; brings back so many good memories. I'm so happy they're still around. Eating their hot dog on a pita with roasted peppers, onions and potatoes just hits the spot every time. This place is part of my childhood memories growing up in Newark and never disappoints. Always cross the street and visit Calandra's bakery afterwards to pick up some French bread, the best.

I just came in, with my little man, got 2 single hotdogs and little man got a hot dog with potato’s. Let me express to you that this place and there personally is by far one of, if not THE BEST local spots I’ve been to yet. With there time and patient that expressed with my 6yo “little man” I couldn’t express how thankful I was. And let me tell you there food there was by far one of the best hot dogs I’ve ever had. We grew up down the street so went here often. Haven't been able to get back for many years until now. Happy to say they are still the same!! Still the best Italian hot dog ever! And those potatoes. And the bread. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later till we get back there again. Can't wait. Dickie Dees! If you so happen to be in Newark, New Jersey... This may be thee best spot to eat out here. Definitely not the healthiest but you can't deny that the food taste good! Not really a suit down and easy restaurant. Obviously there hasn't been an remodel of the place ever. If you judged it from thee outside, you may not even try the place. You could drive past it by mistake. But that's when the negatives stop. This place gets customers all day long! Heads up, it's cash only. Hot fries and chicken parm to go please! Will be back over and over again until I can find better.

Went to Dickie's Dee's today (08-07) and got the double hotdogs sandwich. OMG it was so delicious. Was in town from Columbia SC and visiting family and also was to be attending a wedding. I grew up eating at this pizzeria. Their pizza is the best. Their sandwiches are the best. The ambiance is amazing. Staff is great, they are clean with their establishment as well as their cooking strategy. As a kid, They were one of the only providers of original R/C Cola since forever. My girlfriend is a huge fan of their meatball sub. I personally love the cheese steak and the double Italian hot dog. Don't even get me started on their potato sandwich and potato plate. You hungry??? Come home to Dickies. And when eating in is back to normal, remember.... "Keep your Feet on Dee Floor."

This is my first time in the Bloomfield area My sister is having a procedure done I've been waiting 4hrs for her to come out I was browsing Google maps looking for a decent place to grab a bite to eat what a gem I found The best way I can describe this pizza is very cheesy soft crust that will melt in your mouth. I like Dickie Dee's for their Italian Hot Dogs. They serve them with the traditional Italian bread and potatoes. I usually get a single with everything. The prices are reasonable and if you are not counting calories, you should give this place a try. They serve pizza, hamburgers, cheese steaks, fries etc...I have driven by this place for many years, but I read a review about them in the Star Ledger and decided to give them a visit back in 2015.

Friends and family have always raved about eating an Italian hot dog, I now know why! It begins with soft and light bread, mustard on the bottom, hotdogs, onions, peppers (sauteed) then hot sliced potatoes out of the fryer and placed on top with catsup. A mouthwatering style meal that is seasoned and flavorful. The staff was very friendly and treated us like we were family. If you've never tried an Italian hot dog. I highly recommend Dickie Dee's, it was not like anything I've eaten and was better than expected.

Dickie Dee's is a Newark favorite, with over 50 years of history and a whole lot of character. With so many pizza places in the city alone, Dickie Dee's easily holds it's own. Mostly known for their pizzas and dogs, the rest of their menu may go unnoticed to many. Their steak sandwiches are very understated. The service may be intimidating to some, but it's part of what makes the place unique. Eating indoors may not be for everyone, especially for people who prefer modern interiors and easily accessible seating. Definitely worth a visit though.

Been coming here since the 60s! Father started bringing me here as a small child when we lived here in Newark. The old guys that ran the place and seemed to ALWAYS be here have not been around for a few years now but thank GOD the food still tastes as good as it always did! While famous for Italian hotdogs their Pizza is some of the best Jersey has to offer and the price (currently like..$7) is quite the deal! Enjoy this piece of Nostalgic Newarks history. Unless you are the type that goes for fancy dining atmosphere ... .You wont be disappointed.

So very glad I had a chance to visit this place. Went with a small group from work, one of my co-workers is native to the area. Very glad he chose a neighborhood old school restaurant like this instead of some generic place for us out of towners to eat at. Now I had never had an Italian Hotdog, never before this knew there was such a thing. But if I'm checking out a place like this I'm having what they are known for. So I ordered the double Italian Dog. The vat of oil you see the stuff cooking in was different for me, but what the heck wanted to give it a whirl. Ok get my dog and fries sit down in the vintage seats and have a few fries first they were fine. Now the dog, it was OK I think its the ketchup that I would omit for something else. Very bready considering there are potato's in there too. Seamed to me it needed more meat, peppers and onions. All and all an interesting creation and glad to say I have tried one. Cool place happy to have gone and would recommend anyone take a visit and try it out.

To me a life long HOT DOGS junkie; Dicky Dee's is still the best. It's not a Burger joint or a fancy hot dog joint. I stopped by for the first time in 3 years since I moved out of state. It has not changed in many many years. From the old photos on the wall to The Dogs itself. Owner ship is still the same and the taste of the Double Dog all The Way is remarkably the same as I remembered. Yes there have been others but for me only Dicky Dee's Italian Hot Dogs. I have actually been going to Dickie Dees for over 33 years. I grew up right across the street. I have always loved their food. When I was little my favorite was their tuna sandwiches and of course the pizza. As I got older I grew to appreciate them being one of the originals in Newark to have the Italian hot dogs and sausages on pita bread with real potatoes (to die for). It is a family business and everyone I know have always been treated with respect. Those of you who have a less experience must have truly caught them on a "bad" day because it's unheard of.

This restaurant (that delivered to our hotel) was the only one we called who would actually help us determine what food on the menu was Gluten Free. They had several options, and were willing to accommodate us with requests, like grilled eggplant instead of breaded. Not all of our items needed to be GF. Pizza was amazing

This place is amazing! They are a Pizzeria, but are best known for their Italian hot dogs! A triple comes with 3 deep fried sabrets with onions and peppers on top, topped off with deep fried potatoes all nestled lovingly on a huge half kaiser roll. They also do sausage sandwiches, cheesesteakes, you can put anything on anything. I usually get a triple onto of a cheesesteake. Delicious! You have to get an Italian slice! 1 dog, onions, peppers, taters, on a cheese slice! Awesome!

When I hear native East Coast friends rave about sandwiches with the word “Italian” in it I know it’s worth a try. I had no business being in Newark, but was actually surprised by the # of Spanish restaurants that kept popping up in my searches. I was in town on a layover detour strictly for Dickie Dee’s. A sandwich on an American style fry bread/pita with fried potatoes and fried hot dogs. Cash money is the name of the game and it’s not unheard of to wait a good minute in line. The location is small, very old, not dingy, but certainly not modern. Great exposure to natural light. Service is pretty good, albeit sloppy. They are not east coast rude for the sake of being east coast rude. They are certainly in the name of keeping it OG being it’s 3rd generation owned. Price point is still very good and those potatoes really fill you up. The bread is not standard pizza bread, it’s not standard pita, it’s almost like a fry bread, but slightly more loaf ish. It’s cut and the middle cut open for filling. This is crucial to avoid the typical “blowing your back out” which is common in armature burger eating and “blowing your bottom out” when overloading typical hotdog buns. It’s moist, sturdy, yeasty. It stands up to all that oil from the fried inners. The hot dog is fried to a level just before ripper. 2 are put on the bottom with mustard, fried onions, peppers, then fried potatoes equivalent to half a large russet then ketchup. It’s very filling, even the single. It holds up to the what feels like 1 pound mobile feast. I honestly thought the potatoes would have some seasoning on them. They are kind of bland. You have to get the peppers and I would have liked some sautee’d onions and not fried for more crunch. I didn’t get to try the pizza’s but can say the cold subs were blah and the only hot sub that caught my eye was the sausage parm which instantly reminded me of a traditional ragu and I liked it more than most chicken parms. Apparently their version of “cali” is lettuce, tomato, raw onions, mayo and ketchup. The tomato and ketchup combo is really more popular in Utah, but your probably not going to sell any Utah Steak’s or Utah Burgers. Weird how they did diced sautéed onions in my burger, but not my Italian double or single dog. It’s pretty hard to specialize in this Italian dog, cheese steaks, burgers, pizza’s, cold and hot subs. Stick to a few and you’ll be around another 60 years, otherwise no one will order the cold subs which was apparent in talking with locals. They only get a handful of items, ever. If I’m ever in Newark again I’m coming back. IF. IF you are ever in Newark you too should stop by.

The "fries" are literally potatoes. They just call them "fries." The "fries" are unseasoned. They write your phone number and address and sometimes name on the pizza boxes - you'll have to take a pen to each box to protect your information. They don't. One of the delivery guys, a young looking guy, is super nice [smiles a lot] and is prompt. Another delivery guy, an older man, is impolite and delivered a cold pizza to me.

I have been patronizing Dickie Dee's Pizza since I was in fifth grade at Abington Ave School on North 6th Street, Newark. I turned 50 yrs old in June 2018 and I continue to eat there. I. Currently live in Pennsylvania and visit Newark 2 times per week and I make it my business to stop at Dickie Dee's and eat lunch. Dickie Dee's is a AWESOME Resteraunt!!!!

The senior man that was at the The council was so nice he showed his all the pictures he said town Terrence Howard had just been at the restaurant 2 weeks prior and point to a pitcher the younger cook happens it be his nephew and he cooks with the family's cook.. Went to Dickie Dees today, Saturday. I usaually go on a weekday. I Bought an Italian hot dog ,sat down &started eating and the hot dog just didn't taste the same. I take two bites and it was sort of cold and the oil soaked right through the bread was so soggy the hot dog fell right trough the bread. What's going on, , I said to myself so I just could not eat it. I get up and show it to the Guy and he just looks at me like " oh well". It is a shame that he couldn't even make it right &offer to make another. Shame on you Dikkie Dees. I never thought their weekend service & hot dogs would b so Rotten !

I grew up in that neighborhood back in the 70s and 80s....and going to DDs was a must... I loved to go to Dickie Dees after school or when mom let me have their AMAZING hot dogs for weekend dinner... As I grew up in New Jersey I moved around from town to town ... but I would always find myself back there in Newark on Bloomfield ave corner of 6th having one of their GREAT MOUTH WATERING ITALIAN HOT DOGS !!!!!.............. I've since moved out of Jersey, joined the army, had two boys, moved to Pa, then Col, and Flo, and I CAN SAY from experience DICKIE DEE'S Italian Hot Dogs ARE THE VERY BEST.. the Potatoes the Onions, Peppers mustard / ketchup AND THAT BREAD !!!!!!! OMG they need to be on the FOOD NETWORK !!!!!... for sure !!! ....Thank you Dickie Dee's for great memories and still great food !!! a fan for life

Owner is an evil creep. I don't wanna hear you must have caught them on a bad day if they're mean. The owners and high end people there are disrespectful, disgusting, rude evil people. I called in for a SIMPLE pick up, just like I've done over a dozen of times. The owner himself picks up. My mother knows him personally and he spoke to her THIS WAY. I ask him for a half a sub with potatoes. In a condescending tone he says "oh, well we never put potatoes on our subs. I got so annoyed, but i kept my cool and was still nice to him. Then he asks me if I wanted cheese on it. I asked for ketchup on it instead. Then he surprises me yet AGAIN and gets even nastier. He says "Who the F**K puts ketchup on potatoes" so I asked him, "are you new here because there should always be potatoes on subs" He says "EXCUSE ME" So i asked who is this? In a criminal way he says? "You wanna know who this is, I'M THE OWNER HERE, that's who" At one point he even said, "I don't give a F**K" We're talking about a sub from DICKIE DEES, The SO CALLED 5 star food restaurant. That serves SO CALLED 1st class food. ANYONE who has had Dickie Dees for 33, 43, or 53 YEARS should know better than that. He hung up on me with a stick up his but. My mother has been going there for 20 years. WE KNOW the owner. ANYONE who has had Dickie Dees will know TWO THINGS. They make the best food, and they should NEVER treat customers that way. On a good day or a bad day, you don't treat people that way. No excuses. Dude is lucky I'm a Christian. I spoke to him like a SAINT on the phone. I was kind to him, despite his evilness. He spoke to me like he comes from the street. I was born and raised in Newark and I STILL live in Newark, and I'm proud of it. I've NEVER been spoken to like that in Dickie Dees. Forget Dickie Dees. I will never go there again. The owner talks to people like if he is a king or something. Like he has that right to treat people like dirt. Nobody has that right. It's a BUSINESS, not a prison. I don't care how much you like their food, nobody should make excuses for them. Wrong is wrong. Don't waste your loyalty on men like that just because they make good food. The food may be good, but for THAT attitude and behavior, forget the food. They can keep it.
