The grilled octopus was amazing, so tender and tasty 😋 The baby calamari was very good. The sangria they made it the way I asked. It was perfect! Everything was great. They also have available parking.

The food is fantastic! They started the table with the soup of the day—most delish. Then we had clams in green sauce, sausage, fried squid and a garlic paprika shrimp as starters. All absolutely wonderful.

Service at Casa Vasca was both friendly and impeccable. Similar to some of the other Ironbound restaurants we have sampled, service is old world European. Dinner entrees were served with the soup of day which was a very good Chickpea and vegetable. We ordered the salmon stuffed with crabmeat, bronzino and grilled lamb chops. Everything was very good and a fairly large portion. The lamb chops were very reasonable at $22.00. We finished it off with a very good cappuccino and two desserts. We did not order drinks but the restaurant has a full bar.

Casa Vasca. I had a great lunch . The dish ordered was”Laco’n con Grelos” (Steamed pork shank w/ broccoli Rabe.) With Chorizo, potatoes and stir fried spinach. The shank has a smoked taste and cooked perfect. The meat was so tender, left the bones and melted in the mouth. The portions are very large, served with freshly baked crisp bread basket and soup of the day. Both are complimentary. The soup of the day was black bean, and it was like eating at home, light and delicious. Casa Vasca is a Spanish restaurant that specializes in the Galician cuisine of the Basque region. They have a free, dedicated private parking just about four houses from the restaurant, as parking in this tight neighbourhood is difficult. I came here with a Spanish friend who knows the owner for many years.the staff is friendly and offers great service. This is a true Spanish Restaurant...they offer a great selection with many specials of the day. The restaurant also offers a superb ambiance of a Spanish décor and is extremely clean. The whole experience, is like eating out in the Basque province in a Spanish house, which is a perfect name for this superb genuine Spanish restaurant.

Hands down the best paella in town I love it so much it's super good and fresh. And the prices are the best of any other restaurant in town for the portions they usually give. But this place has amazing portions and amazing prices. And it's a super authentic place with friendly staff. I highly recommend this place for paella if you're in the market for the best.

My wife and I am enjoying our food at Casa Vasca in Newark New Jersey. This place is a hidden gem, worth a visit to Newark, NJ. We lived for two years in the north of Spain and the food brought back memories of a wonderful time in our life; the bacalao, the chiperones, the lentil soup, the bread, everything was homemade, fresh and delicious! The waiters were all from Spain, although immigrated to the United States, and spoke both fluent English in Spanish. I had always thought of Newark as a slightly grimy town that I had to pass through on my way through New York City but now I have a reason to visit Newark!

I've dined here four times over the last six months. For me two things are important in a dining experience - great food and great service. I received both each time I dined here. The waiters are very attentive and the soup which accompanies every meal is always surprisingly good. I also enjoy their sangrias. They also offer free parking ( please tip the attendant though) just a couple doors away.

Absolutely delicious Spanish food. Wait staff is amazingly attentive and friendly. If you have kids, there is no kid menu but my picky 2 kids had no problem with the chicken francesca (wonderful) and fries. The pulpo was perfect and unreal. And if you get paella, be aware that it's A LOT. A 3 person paella could easily feed 6 and you'd still be full. Lastly, the sangria was fabulous! Not too sweet, not to heavy, just perfect. Highly recommend!

When I first entered the restaurant, there was a bar and it felt extremely sketchy. One of the people pointed to a door and surprisingly enough, there was a restaurant. Although the setting was very strange and I wasn't sure if I was in the right place, this restaurant is a hidden gem in the rough. Thankfully, when we were seated, the waiters were extremely welcoming and the menu was very extensive. I was very pleasantly surprised with the entree. We ordered a calamari as the appetizer, and it was very soft. The ambience was very nice, as it was not very loud, and I could enjoy the meal in peace. I ordered the salmon with crab meat, yet that was mediocre. A friend of mine ordered the octopus and shrimp in garlic, and that tasted amazing. The suckling pig was amazing as well, as it was both chewy and tender. This lunch truly was a pleasant surprise and a great first taste of Spanish food.

My friend took me to Casa Vasca. I had never been there. I'm glad he did. What a great place. We were seated right away. The staff was very good, friendly and helpful. They start you with lentil soup. Then we had baked clams and grilled sausage for appetizers. Both were very good. My friend ordered grilled octopus for his meal, and I had the octopus and shrimp special. Rice and spanish potatoes came with each dinner. Everything was delicious. The portions are large and the prices are good. Definitely a place to go back too.

I ordered baked clams as an appetizer and they serve soup before your meal comes out. I ordered Chicken in lemon sauce that came with yellow rice and chips. The food was amazing! Very delicious. The servers were very nice & quick. The place was very clean. I highly recommend this place. If you are in the area stop in. It's a must-try I would definitely have to come back soon.

I’m 25 and my dad has been going here long since before I was born. My parents met here for the first time in ‘89, my dad had the garlic shrimp and his breath was awful. My mom offered him gum, but he didn’t pick up on her hint. Nevertheless, they left together in my dads car, and he pulled over into a Newark back alley without divulging a reason for the stop. I imagine my mom had the same fears any woman would have in that situation. But my dad just couldn’t hold it in and took a piss in a back alley, then got back in the car. From all accounts, he was a complete gentleman afterward. Moral of the story: I’m extremely, unbelievably lucky to have been born. Ohh, and your food is awesome. I’ve lived all over the country, but my entire family on both sides lives in NJ and I have eaten here many times over the years. The wait staff here are more personable and attentive than literally anywhere else I’ve dined and they exude a relaxed, friendly aura. And the foods dope af, yo. If I could make garlic shrimp like that, I couldn’t keep the bishes away...but I’d make sure to have Listerine for dessert otherwise mfs won’t be biorn ;)

Restaurant is owned and manage by the family that founded it. They personally go over each table to ask you about your food and if you have any questions or problems they will resolve it immediately. It’s a family tradition and food rates like Spanish home made food. Excellent! There are customers that won’t go to any other place in the Ironbound. Free Parking available on a lot next to the restaurant. Food is can be order for take our. You can wait for your order at the bar while you gave an espresso or a nice sherry. I highly recommend it!

I want to be Basque after visiting here! Atmosphere is authentic and comfortably elegant. Very professional, efficient and friendly service. Food was excellent and price reasonable. We had the Paella and a whole red snapper and loved each. I drove a ways to meet a friend who had a long layover at Newark Airport - this was just 10 minutes Uber ride away from airport - wished i lived closer as I would come here regularly1

The beautiful gem is nestled in Newark. The family owned business is a frequently visited restaurant of our family. We've been there so often the owner and wait staff knows our names. The dining area is small but quaint and feels like home. The food is authentic and is always given in large portions. You can order anything from the menu and know it's going to be delicious!!! From their tapas to their desserts you'll never leave hungry or disappointed. Garcias!!!

Love this place service is the best and food is fantastic. Took my friends from South Carolina who lived in Newark years ago to eat and we had a wonderful time. When my daughter comes to Newark from Savannah we must stop in before she gets back on the plane. She orders more food to take home, and they helps us rap up the food so she can take it on the plane. You must get the soup it's always delicious. Garlic Shrimp yellow rice, oh the chips, salad is always good. You must go, very cozy.

I took a party of 6 to dinner because of a simple recommendation of a friend. Wow! The food was amazingly good, sangria plentiful and price was more than fair. No one left hungry. The staff was attentive and there was ample parking in their own lot. We grew up in North Jersey but have lived in South Jersey for a long time. This was such a wonderful meal all in our party agreed that this is a rare restaurant worth a 1.5 hour drive. We will be back.

Great food. Great service. Fantastic ambiance. Such a great place for a family get together. Our party was about 12 people and we were all comfortable. We didn't have to wait for seating since we called in a reservation in advance. Everyone got something different from the menu, and from all of us basically sharing all the food we got, I can definitely say that there's not one bad item on the menu.

We descended on this place for lunch and what a treat. Superb service coupled with delicious food - every dish from pork to veal to chicken to goat (yes, goat) was rated top notch. Fantastic breads and complimentary soup that was perfect on a chilly day. The place is immaculate and with free adjacent parking, it is the place to eat in Newark. We will be back.

Casa Vasca is excellent. On the exterior it looks like a dingy bar so my first reaction was ewwww! However, curiosity got the best of me. We went through the front door through the bar and through a second door into an exquisite, intimate dining area. The waiters are friendly and attentive, perhaps a touch too attentive, while the cuisine is fabulous, Spanish/Portuguese. The tab for two included appetizer, entree, dessert, sangria and tip for around $120.00. I recommend it highly.

The bar entrance welcomes you to a different world, where conversation, good food and excellent drinks take you to Basque cuisine and wonderful experiences. The tables on the bar side and perfect for lunch or dinner, and for enjoying a welcome soccer match followed by those who flock there for a few hours a day. Sitting in the restaurant right now, and had a great dinner. Truly. They care about details. Garlic shrimp - shrimp crunchy, meaning cooked just right, garlic sauce not overpowering. I had for my entree mariscada with green sauce, and I highly recommend it. I've had it at other places where the sauce overwhelms the flavor of the seafood. Here, they struck just the right balance of allowing the sauce to compliment, not cover or overwhelm the seafood. My mom said her shrimp in lemon sauce was very, very good. So far this is my favorite restaurant in the Ironbound/Portuguese/ Spanish section. I'm now on a mission to try them all - wish me luck!

The owner is friendly and knowledge-able, and has been there for years! This is a hidden gem in the Ironbound section. Predominantly Basque style cooking with brown gravies and veal, but the seafood has the fresh taste of a salt sprayed ocean with the hearty wines of Spain. Drink a "martini" (sweet vermouth European style) and have a Sangria with the meal. Before you get your ride home, ask for a Spanish brandy in a warm glass. Parking available up the block in their own parking lot.

having visited 22 countries some , many times. i do a lot of business dining, as well as grabbing just a great meal. , i would give this restaurant a high score. fresh food, generous portions, authentic regional food. the owner Maria is there 99% of the time. the workers seem to have been there for years......... priced right, and genuine atmosphere. you cant go wrong TRY IT , U WILL BE GLAD YOU DID, AND WOULD MOST LIKELY RETURN AGAIN AND AGAIN ....

Not impressed! Compared to many NYC restaurants this felt shabby and the service was so so with somewhat surly (Is all Jersey this way?!) waiters! If you want ok food, in a sketchy neighborhood, difficult parking on a lot down the street (albeit with an old man directing traffic!), with a strong local feel... Go for it!

Food is good, prices are meant for an upscale restaurant. Overall wait staff is welcoming. The owner does make her presence as she is on a constant vigilance to ensure that the restaurant flow is maintained. They are definitely doing something right as the restaurant is constantly busy and likewise most Newark establishments that's where they fail for me. Sitting is bumper to bumper and when they hit rush hour you might as well forget about attentive service. Parking is great for a Newark establishment and although it has potential for 5 star ratings they still need vast improvement and for the last 2 decades that I've been going, there has been minimal to no improvements done. My recommendations is to inquire when it is that they are not busy as it may proof to be a perfect date restaurant.

Good food, good service and nearby parking, the latter of which is a rarity in Newark's Ironbound District. I prefer the lunch menu with its hearty Basque tortillas (gigantic omelets). But you can't go wrong with any seafood dish here. And if you have a yen for goat or rabbit, those also show up on the specials menu.

These guys know their fish. The specials seem to be the way to go, the monkfish in particular. Swordfish is great, too. Heard great things about the crab-stuffed salmon. If you're looking in the Ironbound for Spanish that's not Tapas, come here.

Forever my favorite restaurant in the Ironbound. 💗 My favorite dishes include the clams casino, anything with grilled squid, and chicken francaise. They also make the best cappuccinos in the neighborhood and their almond tart is scrumptious. Quiet and elegant atmosphere in the restaurant, warm and cheerful (but never too loud) in the bar.

You will start your meal with a bowl of smoky Basque chickpea soup served at the table from a cast iron pot that is carried from table to table. (It's included with your dinner.) They know how to cook here -- my favorite is the grilled octopus-- and the owner and the wait staff will make you feel like you are members of the family. Just don't order a bottle of Portuguese wine. You will be reminded that this is a Spanish restaurant!

The Ironbound neighborhood in Newark is known for its great Iberian restaurants featuring both Spanish and Portuguese style cuisine. Casa Vasca is strictly a Spanish restaurant highlighting foods from northwestern Spain's Basque and Galician regions. Go here if you're HUNGRY! The portions are generous yet no compromise on quality. There are other Spanish restaurant in the area such as Spanish Tavern, Spanish Sangria or Fornos of Spain that are comparable in style but Casa Vasca is the clear winner when it comes to this style of sit-down restaurant. However, I have to admit... if you want to go for a tapas experience (small plates) with a much more casual and loud atmosphere, skip Casa Vasca and head to Casa D' Paco! In my opinion, they are producing some of the most delicious, edgy and diverse Spanish tapas in town. You go to Casa Vasca for a more quiet dining experience in an intimate space for a full dining experience. Pick a bottle of wine, order an appetizer (just one or two or you'll be full by the time the main course arrives!), dessert, coffee and a shot of Spanish Brandy. I recommend the shrimp "a la plancha" (grilled) or "al Ajillo" (garlic sauce), Clams in green sauce, Ternera (veal) "a la Vasca", Merluza (whiting) " A la Vasca", Mariscada, Grilled prawns or Bacalau (cod) "Al Pil Pil" and their Filet mignon. You won't be disappointed by this place, it is one of my top 10 restaurant EVER!
