I ordered 1 chickpea burger to share with my dad because he tends to not like vegan options and he ended up finishing my burger! If we weren’t in such a rush I would’ve went back and ordered two more. The burger was hands down probably one of the tastiest vegan burgers I have ever tried. My dad and I both loved it. I was surprised he was still talking about it as I wrote this review. He mentioned it reminded him of this meaty dish he tried before but this was much better. I also loved both of the Mint and Hibiscus teas. The hibiscus tea is a must. The coleslaw was delicious, we both enjoyed sharing it. Will definitely get my own next time. I also recommend adding the chocolate macadamia cookies as they are very tasty and good for dessert! Everything was incredibly affordable as well, I loved the price!! Will definitely find myself coming by Newark more often. P.S the staff made the experience better! Thank you Urban Vegan :)

Incredible vegan food!! My partner and I don't branch out much in terms of food bc most North Jersey vegan food we've tried hasn't been great. I'm so happy we decided to come here! The burger salad, cheeseburger, and pulled BBQ biscuit were amazing. Urban Vegan could hang in LA, that's how good it is 😉

Drove 40 minutes to try this vegan spot and it was worth it! Staff was very welcoming and accommodating! Our new favorite spot for sure. Black eye pea burger is a MUST try! We ordered several things off their menu, mains, sides, cookies, hibiscus tea, mango smoothie & everything taste super delicious! Above my expectations, looking forward to eating here with my family again!

Top Notch. Wonderful metl-in-your-mouth burgers. Perfect combination of crunchy and soft, sweet and salty. Hit every part of the pallet, served with sweet potato fries you cant go wrong with any option on this menu. A true delight and fantastic customer service. Definitely will be back!

Great vegan spot in Newark ! It's right on broad St. It was busy when we got there, but the food was phenomenal! I got a chicken sandwich and a black eye pea burger. It is a home made burger which makes it waaaay more delicious than a beyond or impossible. Will definitely be going back !

Run here! The cheesesteak was so juicy and flavorful. I’m not vegan/vegetarian so I temper my expectations when it comes to vegan restaurants- but the food here was absolutely delicious! I had the Philly cheesesteak and side salad, let’s just say I couldn’t believe it was vegan. I’ve found a new go-to burger spot. The salad was refreshing and came with a light vinaigrette. The staff were friendly and the dine in area was pristine. Highly recommend the food here, loved every morsel of it!

I was with my daughter watching a live Cirque Du Soleil performance in Newark. After it was over, we were both hungry and I was worried that we wouldn't be able to have healthy choices in the depressed area that we were at. Boy, was I wrong! Luckily, as I began my food search, I happened to drive right by a vegan takeout place called Urban Vegan (myurbanvegan.com). The menu had about three dozen vegan food options including vegan burgers sides, and sandwiches. I ordered the Chikpea Burger. It was so delicious that I woofed it down in no time (Where's my manners?). My daughter ordered the California Burger and she too loved her order. The sweet potato fries we ordered were fresh and tasty as well. The menu seems to be partly inspired by soul food. As it turns out, the owners are African-American. They also offer several types of natural smoothies. I wish my South Brooklyn neighborhood had a place such as this, but for now, I'll have to travel to get tasty vegan food.

Been vegan for a month now and I decided to explore my local vegan options. Urban vegan!!!!!! This place understands how to make a new vegan feel happy with the transition. I had the black eye pea burger and the sweet potato burger, both of them were spectacular. They both came with a fresh salad. Loved the place. Everything they sell is vegan!! Loved food ambiance and experience!! I had Spicy Chikin sandwich!! Was smoky and amazing. Would love to come again. Pro tip: if you order from home order sauces on side for your burger.

Came here with high hopes and was not disappointed! So many choices, opted for California burger- came with a side salad with lots of dressing and delicious chopped veggies. Also got the hibiscus tea. Everything was excellent, including friendly staff and really nice dining area. I will be back for the chicken sandwich! ❤️

Wow I have nothing but great things to say about this place. Thank you so much to my guy Tom! He was so helpful and made my first experience so very pleasant. His customer service was more than exceptional and I can tell he is very passionate about what he does. He made great recommendations and even told me his favorite drink which is the Mango Berry Lime. He walked me thru the menu and answered all of my questions. He allowed me to try the sauces and to choose all of my favorite ingredients for the power bowl. The food was absolutely delicious. The chicken sandwich did not disappoint and had all the qualities of a classic chicken sandwich without harming any animals in the process. The power bowl had black rice which is super healthy and not often offered at many vegan restaurants in the area. I love that everything tasted so clean but full of flavor like the black eyed peas. So savory and cooked perfectly. I will definitely be coming here regularly and highly recommend this restaurant for vegans and non vegans. No surprises or funky flavors you don’t recognize. Everything is made with familiar flavors and ingredients. My only complaint is that they don’t deliver to Montclair lol But now I have a great reason to visit Newark more often. I’m very happy that Newark has a vegan spot! It was my first time here and my experience was very good. Jada was very warm and welcoming while taking my order. Melanie prepared the food carefully and also in a timely manner. Their Hibiscus Tea (pictured below) is very good and fresh. I will be back and will also recommend this spot to family and friends!

First time eating here... Staff were friendly. Inside decor and seating areas are nice. Food is just OK, very pricey for what you get. Nothing to write home about. Had the chicken biscuit ($11 not including fries) which was ok. My kiddo had the biscuit beyond burger($14 not included fries) and the biscuit fall completely apart. Drinks were good..we left still feeling hungry. Overall, it's ok if your looking for a snack, high pricing and little food. Staff were really friendly.

I don’t know how often I’ve rode past this place and never knew it was there. Not to long ago I had a conversation with a resident of Newark who said that their really isn’t any true or factual vegan restaurants in Newark, just some that offer vegan or vegetarian options. I was in Newark on business and a friend said let’s do lunch while I was there. She found Urban Vegan on google maps. The first thing you’ll notice when you walk in is the smell of green vegetables. A very clean healthy fragrance you’ll never get in a restaurant that cooks meat. Being a close observer I noticed in the rear of the place a food prep area that was very clean. Your meal and beverages are prepared behind the register and it was very clean also, and they were busy at the time. If you dine in they bring your food to your table. My friend who is known to throw back some chicken or a burger was totally surprised that vegan food was so delicious. She was outdone. I had the black eyed pea burger and all the trimmings were fresh, cool and crunchy. They offer a smoothie named Forever Young that I didn’t taste until we were back in the car. I would’ve purchase a liter of that delicious beverage if I had tasted it in the restaurant. It’s my official vegan joint when I’m in Newark. Even if I just grab a Forever young smoothie. Amazing experience, I originally went to Newark to handle some business and decided to grab some food. Glad I chose this place. My food was great! My only discrepancy is that the patty for my burger was fried however I knew that before I ordered but they made the burger sound so good and it was. They did have other options like a bowl in case you don’t want fried food. It was clear that they were a little short staffed at the time however the young lady in the front handled everything really well. And I do want to point out, although she was moving from register to preparing food, she changed her gloves each and every time. I appreciated that a lot! And also kept a great attitude, even through the work she made sure to remind me to leave a review. As an entrepreneur I enjoy great customer service and she did everything right.

Highly recommend, best vegan spot in NJ!! My mom ordered a black bean burger and a chickpea burger, she loved the black bean but the chickpea was also good. I ordered a cheese burger, which I loved. All the burgers were well seasoned! The vegan cheese was the best I’ve ever had. The sauces were great and the buns were phenomenal. Fresh salads came with our burgers! We also ordered the green drink and the strawberry banana drink, both were amazing but personally the green drink was the best I’ve ever had.

Totally amazing food-but the first thing that strikes you is how considerate and helpful they are. We got two bowls, one of them with chickpea and black rice, and the other one with the barbecue oats, which doesn’t sound like it would be good, but it is totally delicious. How they create such a meaty texture from oats is beyond me, but the barbecue is delicious. I also got one of the biscuits and I swear that is the best biscuit I’ve ever had in my entire life. Soft and moist and flavorful, we were only passing through New Jersey, but it is something I will crave for the rest of my life. And one last thing, I was really touched because the guy behind the counter, who took my order, came out to give me my bag to go. I gave him a five dollar bill as a tip, and I noticed that he turned to the kitchen showed it to them and put it in the mutual tip jar. Seriously good vibes and good food here.

Wonderful staff nice ambience and clean. The food is amazing McDonald and all of the poisonous five food. do not have nothing on this place loving it. If you have kiddos, bring them there instead of traditional fast food. This is great for our community. Plus it is black own love it only down note is that there is no parking watch out for a ticket as the bus stop in front of the store it seems to be the only alternative.🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾♥️♥️♥️

This restaurant is phenomenal. The food has so much flavor and the service provided was top of the line. I ordered two entrees and I am immensely impressed with both. They were even able to accommodate my gluten allergies. The staff also keeps this place clean!!! Feyintola was a sweetheart and very hospitable. First time trying Urban Vegan and vegan food ever and I have to say THIS PLACE GOT IT!! The manager Jose was amazing, so attentive and the experience was amazing. I was so happy to find out about a new vegan spot that is not too far away. I ordered online, the cheeseburger biscuit and the cheesesteak. It came to a little over $30. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked in and it was busy. I walked up and it is set up like a fast food spot. I was greeted and told the lady I was picking up. She got my food for me and I left. I got the cheesesteak for myself and the cheeseburger biscuit for my friend. I had a piece of my friend's sandwich and boy was it good. The cheesesteak was ok. It was filling but I probably won't order this particular sandwich again. I wish I got the biscuit sandwich. I will get that next time.

This was my first visit and I loved it! I had the pulled BBQ biscuit with sweet potato fries and pina colada (drank it on the way home). The food was delicious even after driving a few miles home to eat it. The establishment is clean, inviting and the staff is friendly. I'll definitely visit again to try other items on the menu. Let me start by saying I'm a meat eater. Someone who enjoys food. I chose the build your own power bowl, created the salad I was craving and the flavor was more than I expected . The $12 were totally worth it. The portion was perfect enough to be a meal, ingredients were fresh ( I chose fresh greens, chickpeas, tomatoes, avocado ) and the dressing -Testy herb vinaigrette was amazing. I tasted my friends sweet potato burger and that too was flavorful. I will be returning and taking my friends.

I had their Black Eyed Pea Burger, Coleslaw and a Hibiscus drink. Everything was absolutely tasty! The food was very fresh and I liked that it was decadent while still energizing. I didn't encounter any of the post meal tiredness or "Itus" that so often happens with heavily processed, overly carb loaded food. The service was excellent and I like the 3 big booths that I think actually can lead to more interaction amongst the customers. Even if you've only had regular meat burgers and sandwiches I think you would be doing yourself a favor by trying this spot. It really is that good. It's great to know this place is open Saturdays and Sundays too. I can't wait to go back!

Atmosphere was good and establishment was clean. Staff was very friendly but I found the wait time to be excessive. Additionally more than 3 items that I wanted to order was not available because of missing ingredients, that was disappointing but seems to be more common among several establishments in this day and age. The power bowl was good especially the pulled bbq oats. Looking forward to trying them again

As a vegan of 7 years I was suuuuper impressed with the food here! The burgers were so flavorful and well done, the plantains were delicious and didn’t even need a dipping sauce, and I will be dreaming about the Mint Tea for the rest of my life. This is a must-go-to for vegans everywhere!!

I really wanted to like the food. It was a spontaneous Sunday lunch meet with my friend trying new places. The people working in the store are great with service. The atmosphere was inviting and nice for an afternoon chat and chew. I have this thing about mushy and soggy. If either occur with food I have gag reflects. Sweet potato fries are nice texture and Stay crispy. Also really good with the yellow BBQ sauce. I also had the chickpea burger with coleslaw on the burger(that's how it come) with a mint tea. My chickpea burger was very mushy. Basically the consistency of the patty. It would have been better for me with a crisper well done finish. The coleslaw had the potential of being tasty but it was overcome with too much liquid from the white sauce. This made the bun soggy and the burger extra mushy. I even tried taking the bun off and do one side. Only managed to eat a small portion of burger. I don't do sugar so my tastebuds are just wired differently. The mint tea was a very sweet tea which massed the healthy mint content. Really wanted to like the food as I initially stated. So maybe Sunday was just an off day.

I really hope this place stays poppin because I work near hear and it's so amazing to have vegan food options! I got a sweet potato burger with salad and didn't even miss the meat. I love the fact that there’s now a vegan friendly place in downtown Newark. The food is amazing soo you won’t be disappointed. Even if you’re not vegan you’ll enjoy anything you get off the menus. I tried this Urban Vegan yesterday and it was so good. I ordered the black bean burger and a powerbowl with beyond burger black rice and avocado and their yum yum sauce and a mint tea with chocolate chip cookies. The food was good and the space was clean and cute. Prices were really reasonable for good portions packed with flavor. IMm not a vegan but I placed another order today bc it tasted fire. So my husband I wanted to grab a bite to eat so I looked up vegan places and Urban Vegan popped up and this place did not disappoint. The food was SOOOOO GOOD😋. I had the Pulled BBQ with sweet potato fries and then another one that I had to save for later with sweet plantains that I will be eating and munching on at home 😋, and my husband had the sweet potato burger with coleslaw and everything was soooo good. We also had the hibiscus tea which was also amazing we will be getting the other tea that they have the next time we come because we are definitely coming back. I believe the guy named Tom helped us out and he was so awesome and patient with us on deciding what to get because everything on the menu looked so good and the place looks so nice. Love the whole vibe the people that worked there down to the food. Oh and one more thing the cookies are soft, and soooo good 😋💖

First time here and was very excited to see what the hype was about! A friend and I had lunch today she ordered the Philly and I ordered the chick’n sandwich and we both ordered the black eyed peas. Though the chick’n sandwich was delicious it was so darn small and overpriced to say the least. The black eyed peas weren’t good so I asked for the chickpeas which were absolutely delicious! I tasted my friends Philly that’s said to be made with oats and honestly we’re both vegan chefs and we find it hard to believe any oats were involved in the making of this sandwich lol! Though it was delicious it to fell flat in quantity as there was far more bread then filling. Overall, I’m glad to have experienced this place but not interested enough to go back especially since I’m still hungry after spending over $20.

Located in a lovely part of Newark, Urban Vegan is a wonderful gem hiding in plain sight. Staff member EJ was a pleasure from door open to door close, offering me several suggestions for my lunch meal. I ended up ordering the chicken biscuit, and a Mango Berry Lime fruit shake. Layered with cheese, onion, tomato and lettuce, the chicken comes out crispy yet with great inner texture. The "buttamilk" biscuit it comes on, while not the most durable, is incredibly moist and satisfying. The Mango Berry Lime fruit shake is reminiscent of an amalgam of ice cream truck favorites. Just the right amount of sweetness, while also being the perfect straw-sucking-consistancy. I have been floored by when whole event here in what I am now calling "The Gem of Broad Street". I'm hearing they will be expanding East, and I intend to be dining at a new and closer location soon(but not soon enough).

Urban Vegan really just brings a comfort that’s not even explainable, firstly I got the chicken sandwich without onions, all though they still put onions, I didnt care and thought it was the Universe doing this to me, for some odd reason I enjoyed it with onions??? I dont even like onions!! So it was meant to be after my first visit! Overall presentation was beautiful, my girlfriend got their bbq pulled oats sandwich and THAT WAS HANDS DOWN!!!! Never ate something like that in my life. THEIR HIBISCUS TEA 😍 Just speechless about it. Urban Vegan is THE spot, great staff, great cooks and amazing energy and atmosphere, I saw one of the staff members with a crystal resting on her 3rd eye, and idk that just really stood out the most, Moments and things like this do not happen, but they did here. I ALSO LIKE TO ADD I DONT LIKE SWEET POTATOES BUT I LIKE THEIRS?!?!? I fully and wholeheartedly love Urban Vegan! Thank you.

Not bad! It's a great addition to this area in Newark. I had the vegan chicken sandwich, which probably falls somewhere between Morningstar Farms and Gardein in quality/texture/taste. The buttamilk biscuits are amazing, and the sweet potato fries are just on the better side of average. The staff is friendly and attentive. Mohagany, Danielle, and Rolando all worked efficiently to get my order ready for me even though I showed up a few minutes early, and they were all smiles while they did it. This place is a solid vegan option in Newark.

This my second time visiting! Today I had the California with sweet potato fries. I called my order in around 7:57 and they close at 8. They allowed me to place my order without even saying their closing time. I arrived about 8:10 and my order was almost ready. Washed my hands in the bathroom only down side was a little soap was coming out the dispensary at a time. Which made me a little irked since I just left work and wanted to scrub my hands for 2 minutes. Besides that everything is up to par. Establishment clean and the manager Jose has good customer service skills. Fresh veggies on my burger super plus. I'll be back soon! Thanks! I can see this being a chain in the near future. I'm excited for this business! I would show the food but I was hungry didn't have time to take a picture MAYBE NEXT TIME!

A young man assisted me with my order and he was so kind and patient with me since it was my first time there. I went with a burger and also asked them to make a chicken sandwich for me which is not one the menu but they were willing to accommodate! Also got some sweet potato fries too. The food may seem pricey but I’m so happy to support! Please remember that they are located in a prime location and likely have high rental cost. Also remember that they are preparing high quality food that cost more for them to prepare. When you consider all this, the price point is just about right. This place is such a gem and a win for the city of Newark. Had this place been here when I was studying at Rutgers Law, they would’ve had all my coins lol. I had all the different burgers they offer and they are all stellar! Texture wise, they aren't quite like a regular burger (besides the two with beyond patty), but it doesn't matter. Our first time here and it was better than I could have expected. Honestly some of the best vegan food I’ve ever had especially for fast casual. Both of their chicken sandwiches were incredible. For a second I really thought it was actually chicken. I was impressed with their biscuits which was shockingly good considering it wasn’t soaked in butter. Fresh cut fries are always a plus. The house-made black eyed pea burger was solid. By far better than a synthetic veggie experiment like impossible “meat” or other patties. Brioche bun, the sweet potato burger itself is amazing, and I opted for sweet potato fries instead of a salad and they were so awesome. I actually called them and had to tell them. Eating at Urban Vegan is absolutely AMAZING! I had the chickpea burger ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ which came with a fresh side salad. All of the ingredients tasted so fresh! The meal was delicious, clean and comforting. I felt light after eating it. I was fully satisfied but not tired or stuffed. I enjoyed sitting down in an open, clean, beautiful atmosphere with plants hanging. The view of the City Hall across the street and light coming in was super nice. 6/19/2022 5:13 On above date and time, I came here fir the first time. The young lady preparing the food deserves an A+! I watched as she changed gloves whenever doind a different tast. The cashier was VERY polite and helpful. I asked about the ingredients and she took time to answer with being frustrated. This has happened to me in the past but not here. I am not a fan of vegan food, however because I live around the corner from the establishment I was curious. Ordered a California burger which is plant based alond with a Power bowl with a Remoulade sauce. My Power bowl consisted of black rice, fresh onions, tomatoes, avocado, cucumbers, and this plant based meat. Excellent, excellent, and excellent! I had a wonderful experience from the moment I walked in the door! The entire staff was pleasant and welcoming. I placed an order for pulled BBQ biscuit, cheese steak, sweet potato fries, hibiscus tea, and a For ever young. The food was good the service not so much. When I placed my order the cashier, whom I also think is a supervisor, took my order. She explained that it will take 10-15 for my order to be complete. When I returned my fries were ice cold. I asked for fresh fries and her response was, “ they were fresh but you left and came back.” I literally left for 10 minutes! I love supporting black businesses but it’s the customer service that will make me never come back.

I visited the Urban Vegan a week ago on a Saturday while visiting the area for shopping. What a vegan gem we've discovered. There are only three booths for dining in so we had to wait just a little for a table, but were able to get our order in while we waited. I ordered the chicken sandwich, my daughter had a rice bowl and my husband had the California Burger. Everything was served with a smile within 20 mins. The food was delicuous. When I first visited Urban Vegan, I was not vegan. I was also having problems with my blood pressure, and my doctor was suggesting medication. A friend of mine took me to Urban Vegan and the decision to go was a life changer. The food is spectacular. The people that work there are professional and very kind. And the atmosphere is so peaceful. When I left there I decided to try the vegan diet. That was about a month ago. Since then my blood pressure is under control, and I have lost over ten pounds. This is a great place to go!! No doubt about it!!

As soon as I walked in the lines were wrapped around the store… I walked out and said this was a sign for me to keep going. I looked to my right and there this gem was. Really enjoyed my first time ordering and picking up from Urban Vegan, can't wait to do it again! Very clean restaurant, following all covid protocols, pick up was pretty easy just walked in and gave them my name. Parking can be tricky in the area as it's mostly street parking, but found a spot quickly. Ordered the cheeseburger, cheese steak, and chicken biscuit sandwiches along with sweet potato fries, and would rank the sandwiches in the same order. All delicious, but I've had my share of beyond burgers and the way they put it together was incredible. The cheese steak was also really good, a little saucey so it can get messy, but that's what you want! The chicken part of the last sandwich was really good - between two biscuits makes the overall sandwich taste a bit dry, but separately the biscuit and chicken were really good. Can't wait to go back, thanks for the enjoyable vegan food!

OMG!!!! The food was AMAZING!!! Although our 1st time there (Feb 11th around 7pm) the system went down and no longer accepted credit cards. A customer before us was nice enough to pay for our order with cash and we cashapp'Ed him the money. Our order (for two people) came out to about $47... reasonable price and did I mention how good the food was! Kudos to the Super friendly staff that displayed professionalism in the midst of a system failure. It got so crazy customers were walking out, there were delayed orders and orders that were placed by customers that weren't received on the restaurant side... throughout all the madness the frontline all handled with care! I can't say that about the manager who came in an hour after the system had been down(heavy set black man). He came in with a nasty disposition and spoke in a very unprofessional tone to the employees who worked so diligently while under lots of pressure! He could definitely use some leadership courses. You won't retain great employees with a manager like that. Based on the restaurants promise of priding themselves on treating everyone with dignity and respect, holding that manager accountable would be the first thing I address as the business owner. Other than the manager talking down and at his employees, I would highly recommend trying this vegan restaurant!!!!

I always love to check out vegan restaurants for work. I’m not actually fully vegan, but tend to eat that way. Had the Philly cheesesteak, which was made with pulled oats. Usually, I’m a seitan kinda person, so this was something new to try. And it was delicious! Even a frequent meat eater would be satisfied. The cheesesteak had a satisfying amount of filling. I also got to try the power bowl, which is more along the lines of something a bit “healthier”. There was a plentiful amount of each ingredient. I appreciate that this restaurant has some traditionally healthy options and some more “fun” options, and that all of them are satisfying. Can’t wait to come back for more!

Glad I was turned on to this spot. They have the best cheese steak made from pulled oats. I never heard of pulled oats but UV prepares it so well that it tastes just like steak. The Mint Tea is so refreshing. The sweat potato fries are cooked to perfection and the coleslaw is soo good and not spicy like a lot of places make it. Coleslaw should not be spicy but good and refreshing. The only thing about it is they could use less mayo because cabbage makes its own water and it tends to get too soupy when it sits...but its still good. I've bern back 5 times since I found out about it, traveling 45 mins just to get good vegan food. My trucker husband orders and has it delivered to him by Uber Eats while he's waiting to be unloaded at Hello Fresh that's how good it is.
