Reviews of The Sazerac Bar
Tena Valenti
My sister and I went here three times during our six day stay during Halloween. Lol! LOVE this place! Had the famous Sazerac cocktail and shared a Espresso Martini. SO delicious!!! The vibe and decor are chill and sexy. The bartenders treat us like we’re royalty. Especially Jonah was fun!
John loper
A small space the is cozy and has a good variety of spirits and cocktails. Service is fast and talented. Can get busy with weddings or groups for meetings coming and going, but a solid spot to try.
The OHalloRANT
Beautiful bar inside The Roosevelt Hotel. The rich wood paneling and heavy furniture made this bar a room to enjoy the Sazerac drink created at this historic bar. The staff mixologists were friendly and attentive. Also try the Ramos Fizz. Had a great time just with friends enjoying drinks and conversations.
Destiny & Crew
You can feel the history here. Very comfy vibe. Perfect drinks. Doesn't open until 2 so we were some of the first people there and had it to ourselves for a bit.
Tony Scarbrough
Great atmosphere. Feels like you're at a bar 100 years in the past. Lots of comfortable seats. Bartenders do an excellent job of creating the cocktails. The drinks are pricey but they come with a nice presentation.
Lady Phoenix
Popped in to check out the bar when my schedule was empty for an afternoon, and so glad I did.
Cosy place cocooned from the crowd where I could nurse my drinks in peace whilst working quietly. Both bartenders and wait staff provided excellent service.
Monica Mellini
Elegant atmosphere and great drinks. Extensive drink menu featuring items that are rarely found elsewhere. Wait staff are friendly and helpful, full of information. Definitely a place to return to on the next visit!
Thomas Morgan
The place to get the classic, intricate cocktail. While you can go to French 75 for a French 75, or go to the carousel bar for a spin, no bar we visited was up for a perfect execution. Of our version of "stump the band;" a Saczerac, Gin Fizz AND French 75. All perfect. Expensive, but worth it.
K Min
Sat down for 20 minutes and no one came to serve us. Ended up ordering at the counter ourselves. Service and attentiveness can definitely use some improvements here.
Drink wise, I enjoyed the Gin Fizz (reminded me of Calpico) but not so much the French 75 (a little too sweet).
Mijail Santos
The place is beautifully decorated and it provides a classy yet relaxed experience. While not a place to party, I’d say it’s reflective of New Orleans’ good vibe. Drinks are great.
Unfortunately, one of the staff members (bar tender) was not particularly friendly/attentive, which would’ve made a great experience.
Nancy Gervais
Elegant and super classy, yet completely relaxed. This bar is cool through and through. Service is friendly and attentive even when it's busy. The cocktails are beautiful and so tasty and worth every penny of their somewhat high prices. My $23 gin fizz was aromatic, foamy, and a taste sensation. Make sure to ask for some complimentary bar snacks and you can nibble on nuts, cheese crisps, and melt-in-your-mouth pork rinds. This bar is an absolute must- visit, not touristy and located in one of the most beautiful hotel lobbies in New Orleans.
Michael Barton
You found a bar with arguably a perfect sazerac. Their rye base is excellent, and their cognac base using Pierre Ferrand is even better. The gin fizz created here is also probably the best you'll find in NOLA. Apart from their drinks, this bar is elegant. The lighting is dim enough to set the mood but bright enough so you can read the menu. You should make it a point to stop by here any time you're in the area it might be the best hotel bar in the country.
Wichulee
You will not disappoint. Just do it! All the drinks are tasty and well made.
Jane Mathias
Fancy bar inside Roosevelt Hotel away from the hustle bustle of Bourbon street in NOLA. Ordered their famous Sazerac and Ramos Gin Fizz and both the drinks were great. The bar tenders are nice and know what they are doing. While the drinks were good I have had similar tasting drinks else where too. I would skip this bar next time I am in town but if you are in the area i would recommend this for a good bar experience.

Update 5/19/21: Sheraton Hotel 36th floor Riverview .
After 12 years of visiting NOLA 4-8 times per year, we finally decided to visit the Sazerac Bar inside the Roosevelt Hotel (Beautiful lobby). I tried the Sazerac and now I am hooked! My wife noticed that almost everyone at the Sazerac Bar was drinking a Sazerac cocktail. I ordered a Sazerac and a Corona Extra beer. You only sip the Sazerac. The Sazerac is very smooth. I tried the Sazerac at the Carousel Bar and I did not like it. Our next stop was the Chart Room Bar. After the Chart Room Bar, we visited our favorite Bar in NOLA: The Carousel Bar inside the Monteleone Hotel. At the Carousel Bar, as soon I sit, a Fleur De Lis cocktail and a Corona Extra beer are waiting for me. We’re treated as VIP. We had great times at the Carousel Bar for the last 12 years. We’re going back in June; God Willing. PS: We visited Pat O’ Brien’s for Hurricanes and Corona Extra’s on Friday afternoon.
Callista Foster
The drinks are just OK. The service was good. It's a real nice upscale bar but the TVs turns it into just another sports bar. It was so loud from others screaming over a football game, we had one drink and left.
Fern M
Sazerac at Sazerac Bar is a must. $20 a glass is a reasonable price for it’s a zip drink that will give you tippy by the end of the night. French 75 was lovely as well, less strong than Sazerac which fit the lady better. All the food is good except gumbo, not too bad but I had better. Reservation is preferred cause it’s always busy here doesn’t matter what day of the week.
William Mims
Absolutely the best bartenders I have met. Nice warm accommodating and man do they make one heck of a drink. Socji and Brandon you are the best. Ask Sochi about her custom cocktail.
Royal Mangalitsa
If you’re in New Orleans don’t miss to visit Sazerac bar and have a drink
Michael Kamali
One of the best upscale bars in New Orleans. Inside the beautiful Roosevelt Hotel, walking into the Art Deco wood-paneled Bar is like going baxk in time . Named after the first cocktail created in America ... the Sazerac (mixture of Rye Whisky & bitters)
The overall experience is truly wonderful.
Lawrence Potts
The staff were very friendly and attentive. The drinks were great. I just couldn't get over the smell of a rotten grease trap. That needs to be taken care of.
Jon Hayes
It was a fun experience to visit the supposed birthplace of the sazerac cocktail. It’s a beautiful hotel and the bar has beautiful Art Deco decor. The cocktails are expensive, which shouldn’t be surprising. You’re there more for the atmosphere than anything else. They do give you free nuts, which is nice. This was a fun stop during our NOLA trip, but I don’t think it’s a place I must revisit.
Jeff Kaemmerling
Gorgeous exterior, inventive drinks- absolutely must get Gin Fizz. The Sazerac is one of those drinks that you have to get so you say you got it, but Gin Fizz was fantastic. They also have pork chiccarones bar snacks that are out of this world. Service is great and it's an institucional, lively spot for good drinks.
Bill Cheatham
One of the best upscale bars in New Orleans. Inside the beautiful Roosevelt Hotel, walking into the Art Deco wood-paneled Bar is like being on the set of “Madmen”. Named after the first cocktail created in America ... the Sazerac (mixture of Rye Whisky & bitters) which is a treat to witness your bartender create the concoction right in front of you.
The overall experience is truly wonderful and not to be missed.
Cortney Ayers
This is an iconic stop - surely. The Sazerac was strong, so make sure you like whiskey! The Ramos Gin Fizz was phenomenal. The prices are high, but make the stop for a drink. We went in the afternoon on. Sunday. The bar was mellow - although there was a steady stream of coming g and going.
Vlemond Lemond
Always a great speakeasy vibe. The drinks, the drinks man, best Ginfizz and Old fashions....French 75... Whatever I'm in the mood for, they have the drink!
Antonio Herod Sr.
Stopped by for a bite but the bar only serves beverages 😒 You have to have room service to get food. The atmosphere was pleasent with a casual, old but clean, cabin style like u see in the bond movies. …
Paul Siano
Staff could use a bit of training very rude telling us we couldn’t get a class of wine to go up to our room because we had our sleeping 3 month old with us .. no worries the fountain lounge next door was spectacular
Naoko Fujimaki
Beautiful and very relaxing setting. We enjoyed their Sazerac very much. It is well worth what you pay for. Great to sit at the bar and watch your crafty bartender shake up your drinks in such beautiful way.
Chad Knapp
Absolutely gorgeous and beautiful location. Everything was delicious. Staff were very friendly.
Ronald Sicharan
A great place to come to for quality cocktails. Based in the Waldorf Astoria hotel, the ambience and interior doesn't disappoint. The signature, Sazerac cocktail was $18, but was amazing. The other options were priced around $13-$15. My favoured drink is an Old fashioned and it was well worth it at $14.
Greg Treadway
The bar is delightful. Bartenders are top notch. This history and the decor is awesome. Sit back and enjoy the show of great bar tending at its best. Drinks are tasty and simply the best!!
Jay Miller Miller
Expect the Kingfish, Senator Huey Long, to be seated at the bar. Frozen in time at 1935, its elegant array of classic cocktails are put together with the precision of a master pharmacologist who follows all of the precise antiquarian recipes to the letter. If you have anything, it must be the Ramos Gin Fizz. Senator Long was so taken by it that he switched from being the state's governor to being one of its U.S. Senatos, he made the Roosevelt send up its head bartender for two weeks to teach his new bartenders in D C. the right way to make it. The place is a shrine! - Kenneth Mullinax/Alabama 🍸🍸🍸
Laura Ockel
I wanted to get a Ramos Gin Fizz during my visit to New Orleans. I had heard of the drink, heard it had been synonymous with New Orleans years ago, but it was surprisingly hard to find it in town today. That's why I went to the Sazarac Bar.
The atmosphere was a happy surprise. The bar is located in the historic Roosevelt Hotel, which is elegant and beautiful. The bar itself is richly classical with an Art Deco air. The drink, of course, was delicious. Well worth the visit!
Fizzy Pitcher
Our bartender for the night, Aaron, was absolutely awesome. He shared a lot of info about the history of the sazerac cocktail, rye, and the itself
Bhavin Shah
What can I say - outstanding bar and highly recommended. The bar tenders are amazing, willing to accommodate your preferences and make drinks precisely with the best selection of drinks. I discovered scotch & frangelico here - delicious!! Don't leave NOLA without trying this place.
josh sixner
Classic cocktail bar. Ambiance was really nice, sections of couches and chairs around the room. Mixed crowd of suit and tie folk with casual Jean and t-shirt. Only knock on the place is prices. Felt like gouging because they can. $17 for a Sazerac is steep. Using Sazerac Rye and Herbsaint.
Keshav Saharia
Best Sazerac in New Orleans. The bartender was so friendly, attentive, and fun to watch. She even managed to serve us two glasses of water while shaking a cocktail with the other hand! Beautiful ambiance, will definitely be back here on all future NOLA trips.
Alfredo Panciera
This place is a must if you are a cocktail lover, everything is excellent, the drinks, the service and the atmosphere of the place.
Amy
Beautiful bar in the historic Roosevelt Hotel. Well worth a stop by anyone who likes a good cocktail. They are famous for the Sazerac bit I'd highly recommend the Ramos Gin Fizz not only is it delicious but is truly entertaining to watch the preparation.
Glenn K
Can't go to NOLO without a sazerac at The Sazerac Bar in the Waldorf. Beautiful decor, solid service and great cocktails.
Lauren Armantrout
Had the classic Sazerac cocktail & it did not disappoint.
Thought the music that was playing that night was a little off putting for the ambiance but everything else made up for it, hahaha.
Would love to come back and try their other cocktails.
Nicholas Miles
great place to watch the super bowl, meet new friends, and enjoy a sazerac!
wendy crispell
Swank to the 5th level. Fancy posh place full of guests of the rather luxurious Roosevelt hotel.
Best known for the Ramos Fizz, a tricky cocktail made with cream, citrus and soda. This drink did not dissapoint! Simply delicious if a bit on pricey side.
Take a sneaky ride up to the Rooftop Bar for a stunning view of the city.
Paul Murray
Great classic bar with awesome architecture and great service and drinks.
Line Dempsey
One of our regular stops when we visit New Orleans. The history of the hotel and the Sazerac Bar are legendary. This is the home to the Ramos Gin Fizz where they crank out 20,000 each year (that is a Lot of shaking!). We try to his this bar in early afternoon, as a quiet respite from the busy day that can be had in New Orleans ever have we been disappointed.
Kristin T
Bar of the original sazerac. A must do experience when visiting NO. Inside one of the last grand hotels, this is memorable.
Ellen Johnson
Elegant bar and great drinks!
Dave waldmann
Awesome time mingling with the locals! Great cocktails! Beautiful bar and hotel
C W Jeffrey
I don't get to visit New Orleans often, but when I do I make sure I don't leave before visiting here. Awesome drinks, great cocktail list, and the only place I've ever been that knows how to make a proper pink squirrel and grasshopper. Not much in the way of food, and the servers don't cover the "floor" as well as I'd prefer, but the drinks, atmosphere, and bartenders (for me) have always been top notch. I'll always return :)
Jas D
Fantastic history and even better cocktails.
Look forward to a return visit.
Tyler Morgan
Upon entering The Sazerac, you are instantly relaxed, and transported back in time with the historic decor lining the wooden walls of this iconic bar. Served by Jonah, an extremely pleasant and knowledgeable bartender, we watched as he prepared the New Orleans staple, a Sazerac. As we sat at the bar, sipping our perfectly made cocktails, we are reminded of the simpler things in life; friends, lovers, and a hearty drink. The Sazerac is a must-go, for both the drinks, and impeccable service.
Mateo Gebon
After hearing about the history of this bar I couldn’t pass up the chance to get a Ramos Gin Fizz here. The bartender was superb, and the decor was extremely classy. I could see this as being a great place for a nice date.
David Sanders
Nice old bar, paintings are a little dark. Great drinks, attentive wait staff.
Kareem Alston
This place is history. If you love sazeracs, what better place to have them then the original? Yes, it is pricey, and yes you will feel out of place if you are not dressed well. This is a fancy bar. It is very nice and people genuinely seemed excited to be there. I sat at the bar by myself and the bartenders were very accommodating. They even answered my sazerac questions which I assume everyone asks. It is a must visit in New Orleans.
Melissa Kreutzberger
Living large is possible if only for a few hours at The Sazerac Bar. We always make time for a visit. Your mind can step back into a different era over some of the best cocktails!
Marissa Love
Old school charm is what you're in for at the Sazerac Bar ...it's elegant time travel. The Roosevelt Hotel is beautiful, historical elements come to life!
Christopher Madsen
THE classic bar, dark woods, amazing cocktails and great conversation, this is the heart of New Orleans bars. A must if you want to peek in to old and new New Orleans bar scene. Bartenders are knowledgeable, wise and skilled. Excellent conversation! Make your way out of the quarter and over to this staple of NOLA bars!
Brenda Boucher
This bar is in the Roosevelt Hotel. You just have to try the signature drink. If you are lucky the bartender will toss the glasses with a spin. Great show.
Lee Applewhite
Shockingly expensive for a Sazerac. But what a drink!! Too easy to drink
Rock Hunter
Fabulous bar with the famous "world's first mixed drink," the Sazerac. Gorgeous old-money style lobby in the Roosevelt Hotel on your way to Sazerac Lounge.
V S
It's ok. The location of the hotel seemed a little strange for such a fancy place. I felt like I was walking down a dark alley a little bit to get there. The bar is haute, and the drinks are over-priced. The clientele was pretty snooty, most people were just sitting there on their phones looking like they were too uppity to talk to others. The bartender Jeremy was nice, and I could be confident that these guys know how to make a good drink. I got a Ramos Gin Fizz (which was good) and moved on. There was another fancy touristy hotel bar that was also over-priced (and revolves) that I liked better. It just had a more joyful atmosphere and the clientele was more enjoyable.
Steven Friend
One of the best bars in America. Rich in history and tradition. There is live music, which is always a norm in Nola. Obviously you must first drink a.... Sazerac.
Tom
Great bar inside The Roosevelt Hotel. Came here in a sunny afternoon specifically to try the Sazerac.
The drink itself is very similar to an old fashion. It was served with a twist of lemon peel.
Overall a very nice and quiet place to have a drink in the afternoon. The place might get crowded in the evenings but we didn't stick around.
Bar tender was great and we had a good time. They definitely have some top shelf options here.
Pete
Delicious drinks and the Bartender was nice...
Brad Ford
Go for a Ramos Gin Fiz and the classic Sazerac! Enjoy the atmosphere.
Joshua Gwyn
Trey did an excellent job serving us on our visit, we loved the whole experience.
Jason Arsenault
Bar tenders were extremely knowledgeable about the history of New Orleans's and mixology! You need to try the first cocktail drink invented here the Sazerac!
E.M. Ross Sobrera
Laid back hotel bar with history. Great for a quiet hangout after enjoying the bustle of Bourbon Street.
Cathy Abramowitz
First time here! The bartenders are amazing. Rachel is quick witted and made me laugh repeatedly. The place was packed and patrons were lurking to get a table or seat at the bar. Drinks were superb. Another gentleman with great hair was also fabulous! I'm sorry I dont remember his name...you'll know him when you see him. Great time. Great team. Definitely worth a visit!
Stephen Cassidy
Gorgeous bar that takes you back to an earlier era.
Casey Wilson
Rachel was amazing. Sazerac, Negroni and Pimm’s Cup we’re all top-notch and well crafted. Busy yet somehow still great volume. A must visit while in NOLA.
Kyle Pfeiffer
Great drinks. Nice atmosphere. Not cheap.
J
It's a Waldorf Astoria Hotel Bar...need I say more!? Service was impeccable and the Sazerac flawless! And the price was surprisingly reasonable. I'll be back for sure!
Sarah VanBindsbergen
Super classy swanky bar. Delicious drinks. Jeremy is great!
Rachel Greathouse
Arguably, this is home of the first mixed drink--the Sazerac! The Sazeracs were strong and the bartenders are pros. We got some sweeter holiday cocktails too; the Christmas Cookie tasted just how a Christmas cookie should!
Angela DiLoreto
Confirm the hours. Their Google hours, posted on door hours and verbal hours were all different. I’m still not sure when they really open.
Augustin McLaughlin
The bar itself looks like it was out of the 1920's which I found really unique and cool. I was served pretty quickly despite the bar being packed with people. I had a Sazerac while my sister had the Gin Fizz, both were over $20. While her Gin Fizz was really good, my Sazerac really didn't have much flavor. But overall it's a neat bar worth a visit (especially during the holiday season).
Maks Chorney
Wonderful ambiance, beautiful murals, great drinks, great staff... they know their cocktails!
C La
Always a great cocktail! A beautiful bar. Great spot to relax. Bar tenders are always the BEST!
Mary Shatas
Bartenders were excellent! Beautiful, historic.
Emma Deppa
very busy, but for good reason. drinks were awesome and the ambience was amazing. located inside the beautiful Roosevelt hotel, it was a very classy place.
Roy Cullipher
Eric our Bartender was Amazing. You must try the Sazerac.
TXTiger
Excellent bar with professional and friendly staff. Very pricey bar, don't come looking for a deal. But if you're staying at the Roosevelt, definitely stop in and have a cocktail.
Matt Grago
Excellent old school bar. Great cocktails, great service, amazing artwork and overall vibe.
Michael Bailey
A wonderful world famous bar. A must go-to place in New Orleans.
christie rodriguez
The place to go for Ramos Gin Fizz. Stayed at the hotel and came to get drinks every night.
Clifton Head
Great place, great drinks and incredible Hotel
Hans Addleman
Super crowded tourist spot. Original home of the Sazerac! Good drink. Fast service. Crowded and loud unfortunately.
Jon Beasley
'A world class stand-up bar in a classic Art Deco setting...if only these walls could speak.
Maggie Attoe
Old school ambiance that I LOVED, the drinks were fantastic too, great service!
David Hunter
The Sazerac here is fantastic and strong. Bar staff was on point so we really enjoyed a nice afternoon cocktail. From Roosevelt Way go through the hotel lobby and the bar is on the right.
Maggie Cook
We heard many good things about this bar before arriving in NOLA. We were fortunate enough to stay at Waldorf Astoria where the bar is located. The bartenders are friendly and efficient. I can honestly say that they serve the best Sazerac cocktail in New Orleans. We also had a few Ramos gin fizz that were made with perfection. We were there early on a Friday afternoon just before happy hour and the crowd was lively and inviting. It was a great start to our evening, nothing adds to great conversation like a well-made cocktail. When in New Orleans don’t miss this historic and charming bar.
Will Lamb
What a great place! The mood and feel just walking through the door was enough in itself but then to top that off with the best Sazerac I've ever had in my life made this an experience I will never forget. We have been roaming around bourbon street and have been having a great time but it was a nice change of scenery at The Sazerac Bar. Would recommend to everyone a thousand times over. Just don't forget the order a Sazerac 😉
Craig McDaniel
The bar is beautiful. Large open space, old wood, friendly staff. Yelp said they make the best Ramos Gin Fizz. I tried and it indeed was excellent. Great blend of flavors: Gin, egg whites, cream, but slightly too sweet for my taste. I think a better deal can be had at the Carousel. The prices here are what make my downvote this bar. I don't think it has all that much extra to garner the cocktail prices.
Kelly Grago
Gorgeous bar, lots of seating options. Attentive wait staff and bartenders. Drinks are delicious!
Manoj Hunsur
You have to try the Sazerac and the Gin Fizz here!
Theodore Wong
Friendly service, comfortable seating for groups.
Chad Naville-Cook
Extremely old school swanky bar just off Canal street. When going here you feel like you are transported back in time to an older age where bartenders wear suits and their patrons wear top hats. You don't wear a top hat, but this bar is not a place to go dressed down. It also doesn't convey the craziness of Bourbon street, which is good. Definitely more elegant. I enjoyed both of their delicious gin Fizz drinks while my friends gave the Sazerac a run. The bartender (Matthew) is meticulous in his preparations and executed the drinks flawlessly. I definitely enjoyed my trip back in time where where drinking was a more elegant affair.
Heads up, it's not cheap.. But definitely worth it.
Christopher Darnell
I won't leave New Orleans without stopping at the Roosevelt..... This is a special place.
John Soder
Love coming to this bar. Great service, has a great vibe about it. Drink menu is superb, and the drinks are well crafted. Decor is super cool, reminds us of the Shining. Look forward to our next visit!!
Family Fan
Very old school high society feel. You definitely get the historic vibe but can be a bit dark and depending on the crowd can feel a bit stuffy and stiff. Feels like there’s an odd mix of convention guests from the hotel and tourists at the bar. I’m not a huge Sazerac fan but it was nice to try one here even though the drinks are as expensive as you’d imagine it would be. Was a 3.5 stars for me but rounded up because it’s an institutional staple for the area.
DC Simonds
The bartenders know what they are doing! Efficent and engaging!
Garrett Kizer
Drinks are wonderful and iconic as always, but at some point in the last year they updated the chairs and tables and now rather than feeling like I'm sitting at a lounge, I feel like I'm sitting in a Starbucks. The new furniture is a serious downgrade.
Marla Ponson
Visit to The Sazerac Bar is recommended for a drink. It brings you back in time with beautiful 1930 murals by artist Paul Ninas. We had classic drinks, the Sazerac and Aperol Spritz cocktail.
Nico Contenta
Classic for gin fizz and sazerac but Gotta have the Gin Fizz for sureeeeeeeeeeee
Kevin Sauer
Great atmosphere, attentive and helpful bartender, but $15-$18 cocktails. Seriously. I'm used to $13 for a very fancy and inventive cocktail, but starting at $15? Get over yourself, Sazerac. Still a good atmosphere and a good time, but it feels like a price gouge.
David S.
Sublime crafted cocktails and overly attentive service. The classic cocktail bar in New Orleans that won't disappoint. Unbelievable quality that carries on the tradition of the original Sazerac and the high level service if the early 20th century. Go now!
Lu's Jewels
Wonderful old school, classic bar. Friendly bartender. Had the signature drink which was excellent. Highly recommend!
Celeste Slone
So my husband and I stopped by the Sazarac bar one Friday night. The service was amazing. You guys have got to see Eric, Rachel and Trey. They were attentive and kind, and professional. We also tried the fried green tomato’s and shrimp ( wonderful). I know in this time of Covid folks are skeptical to venture out, but this place is doing it right. Thank you guys for being such good representatives for New Orleans. May you prosper professionally and personally. Keep up the good work and be encouraged. Your dedication is noticed.
Stephen Francis
Too busy for great service. Classic joint with classic cocktails and upscale pricing.
Vishobh Veetto
It's upscale place. Went there to try the classic Sazerac cocktail, it was very good. But drink alone costs $20. Great ambience. It's very crowded. Dress-up is recommended.
Ray Rodriguez
Great atmosphere and bartender. Tried my first Sazerac and it was pretty good. Lost a star due to the high prices.
Jacqueline Campbell
You are going to get a good cocktail, but the prices are for the space. That being said, the space is worth it.
Scott Mayers
One of my favorite bars in New Orleans. The bartenders always take extra care to create a fantastic cocktail. I appreciate the quality of the drinks and I enjoy the atmosphere of the bar itself.
Bianca S
Second time visiting this bar and it's really an experience. You feel like you have been transported back in time when you enter the bar. Even the bar tenders act the part and are extremely helpful. It's fun to watch them make the drinks especially the gin fiz and of course you have to get a Sazerac!
Jeff Westrick
The bar itself was really cool, with a nice, classic atmosphere, and the bartender was pleasant. The Sazerac drinks, however, were just ok. We tried both the regular Sazerac and the classic version made with cognac. The regular one was $15 and the cognac one was even more. Needless to say, they were not worth the money.
Bonnie T.
I went to this place on a recent business trip to New Orleans. I was in search of a good Sazerac and decided to go with the original recipe. I was not disappointed. I had two. The bartender was great. I loved the atmosphere. I'll definitely go back the next time I am in New Orleans.
Brian Merrell
This bar is pared down to the essentials -- and that's fine. I can imagine Huey Long holding court while staring at the dark murals and ordering another drink. The decor is perfect for what it is, and pretends to be nothing else.
Here one can get the original Sazerac (1840) and its modern counterpart. Personally, I prefer the modern one, but the Cognac in the 1840 version is interesting for comparison. There are several other unique items on the drink list, though should you be tempted to stray, they are well equipped to oblige you. One of the better bars in New Orleans, and set wonderfully in a historic hotel.
Lauren K. Jackson
Great cocktail lounge! My girlfriends and I meet up here to unwind after a long work day. I love the atmosphere here, the French 75 is my personal favorite. Grab a spot on the couch or a stool and enjoy a good time in the iconic Roosevelt Hotel.
Kyle Krueger
Drinks are expensive, but it keeps unwanted trouble out. Atmosphere is very calm and collected. Drinks taste very well also. Highly recommend to friends, family and strangers alike! Will definitely be back!

First off, talk to Jonah. Like everyone else has a said a pure gem. The rarest if the rare. Amazingly fun, bantery man. Grab yourself a Ramos Fizz, especially if its cold outside. Or a French 75, gin if its a little warm outside and congac if you need to warm up a little.
Back to Jonah, he brings you what you want and need before you even know you need or want it. Honestly even if your not drinking just stop in and say hi!
Joanna Royal
Gotta try the fried chicken!!! So worth the wait and money!!
Sandra Capriati
Great bar at the Roosevelt Hotel in the CBD. Great bar for meeting clients, especially if they’re from out of town as it’s great to show them a place with lots of history. Love the piano in the corner. Great cocktails and I’d have to recommend a Sazerac of course
Dustin Mitchell
Beautiful surroundings, nicely-dressed people. But the cocktails are absolutely incredible. The bartenders are incredibly talented (making different drinks with different hands). Worth a trip for a *real* Sazerac.
Marcia Hall
Really enjoyed our drinks on this nice bar in The Roosevelt hotel. The bartender was kind enough to make me a decaf espresso martini!!!!!
Dianna
Sazerac was good, reminded me of a Manhattan, never had this before so can't compare
Hot buttered rum - very tasty, not too alcoholic, lightly sweet and a really nice butter scent. Served with half an oatmeal raison cookie and a mini donut hole
Complementary Chex mix, popcorn and thick chips to munch on.
Good service
Nice relaxed ambiance - dark woods, mosaic tile floor and art deco interior and murals that were created a long time ago
James Burmeister
Have you ever wanted to have a classy drink, in a classy, possibly haunted, hotel? What if this bar is (allegedly) the first to ever serve a mixed cocktail? Honestly, they had me at ghosts and cocktails, but check it out for yourself....
Chris S
Interesting and classy bar for an original Sazerac. $18 for a drink though.
Gerald Wilson
So beautiful and so much much history in this place. Expertly prepared drinks, standing bar, comfortable seating. Only negative is the prices. Still highly recommended and a must experience when in New Orleans.
Laura Holton
Elegant bar, superb cocktails. Try the Sazerac or a Manhattan
Hanae K
Great place to wind down after a busy night on bourbon street. Located inside roosevelt hotel.
The look and feel is fancy but they're not picky about how you dress, which is nice. My bf said the sazerac was ok, but not as good as the one he had elsewhere. The cocktail selections were delicious (get the one with the blackberry if u like sweet drinks).
What made this place awesome was the chatty bartender who happened to be a foodie.
Evan Jackson
One should definitely stop by the Sazerac bar for a sazerac or gin fizz when visiting NOLA. The bar is built from a single African walnut tree, the bartenders are friendly, and the drinks are delicious. Ask about the history of the bar and the story of the stolen horse from the 1200 oz silver Ascot cup. Located in the beautiful Roosevelt hotel, Sazerac had a true 1920's feel and is a great place for a classic cocktail accompanied by your significant other.
FYI the process are high so this is for a special event rather than a go to bar.
Niel Barber
Was crowded! Had to stand at Bar,then found Seating. Beautiful Art Deco Bar,ALWAYS great,Fun experiences! Jonah,& Rachel(Bartenders)ALWAYS take GREAT care of us!
Pepe Ruiz
Favorite place in NOLA. Enough said. It has a great vibe. Three drinks to get: the Sezerac, an Old Fashion, and a Gin Fizz.
Kristina Dee
This is a fun, swanky spot inside the Roosevelt Hotel to enjoy a quintessential sazerac cocktail. Despite the fancy surroundings, you don't feel totally out of place in casual dress. A little pricey, but that's the general vibe of the hotel.
tiff
If there's one thing you need to try when in New Orleans, obviously the Sazarac at the Sazarac bar.
If you come from LA it won't be such a surprise when you see the price list. Nothing crazy for us LA folk, everything is already expensive in places like downtown, Beverly Hills and Hollywood.
I'm not a huge fan of sazaracs but I had to do it. $17 later I had the tiny reddish glass with a lemon twist right in front of me.
Pretty darn good and I mean this is where it was first mixed, how cool.
Just imagine what went on in that bar, sazarac after sazarac after sazarac...
the stories, the bartenders, etc...
I love history I love old building and this was just plain awesome.
I also ordered an old fashion but I didn't love it. A tad bit cheaper than the other drinks. I'd skip it and stick with the gin fizz or sazarac.
If your a baller then come here more than once lol, if not just once is cool I think.
The staff and bartenders were very friendly, not that informed on the hot spots and what to do but still very nice.
Open at 11am for all you drinkers hahahaha
Christopher Marx
Don't choke on the price of drinks. The namesake Sazarac is a whopping $16. The historical and hotel markup is added into the price. Tip is not ;)
The location is classy, dark, and old timey. Attention was paid to restoring the original look. The bar and hotel space has a notable history, which the menu does a great job explaining. Jazz and blues standards play, like the better spots in the Crescent City, but sadly, no live bands.
In a city with live music in all the great spots, I'd be remiss if I didn't deduct a point for not paying for a band. After all, the ingredients + historical significance + hotel location still are hard to justify the $16 price on the namesake Sazarac.
Nicholas Angarone
Crowded, loud, over-priced. Good service.
Kris Harrell
A MSY list must do...the Mrs. Klaus' cookies martini is beyond yum! And, they have the best hot toddy- never had one before but if they taste like that, I'll be having more! The wall art reflects the history of the city...so steel ur heart and mind- New Orleans, plantations, etc... Fair warning.
Brian W. Kittrell
What an amazing bar. Very nostalgic feel of old New Orleans. Service is great and the cocktails are better. Come here for a Sazerac or to see how a Hurricane should be made.
jeff rice
Located in the Roosevelt hotel.
1st time trying Sazerac. Thats all i remember.
James Martin
Great drinks from professional drink makers. Great atmosphere. A must do experience when in NOLA.
Roosevelt Hotel. 130 Roosevelt Way(runs into O'Keefe Ave). Canal Street car stop is Dauphine
Brian Fox
It oozes history and old New Orleans chamr. So why 4 stars. The cock tails were just ok. We didn't go crazy and ordered simple but our bar tender still had to look it up. Compared to another local spot Barrel Proof... We went nuts there, as abscure as possible and the killed it.
Allen Hilburn
The place in New Orleans to have the quintessential New Orleans cocktail.
Crystal Bell
When I think of New Orleans, I think of this bar. It's all the things that make this city magical. Oldworld oppulence, unique atmosphere, great music, impeccable service, and amazing drinks. This is definitely my favorite bar, inside my favorite hotel in my favorite city in the U.S.
Nicholas Jenson
The Sazarac was solid but overpriced - even for a bar in a Waldorf. The hostess was the best staff member we encountered.
Nicole Fernandez
Good crisp cocktails, not too sweet or any of that syrup stuff. Supposedly, it's the place that made sazeracs famous (but they didn't invent them). Bartenders were friendly.
Daniel Aracena
Beautiful classic art decor bar
Les
Thé drink is strong and delicious 😋
Luna B.
If you're looking for heavy handed bartenders. This is the place!! This place is a great place for post work cocktails. They make the best Champagne Lady!!
kim Roberson
Nice. Place...great bartender/waitress. Much knowledge about new Orleans, and history. Little pricey drinks....but food is awesome.
Alberte Schmidt Koefoed
Not at all sure why this place frequents the must-go lists. Sure cocktails are good, but the place it self was super outdated and not at all cozy nor cool. Even the crowd seemed out-of-date.
Chase M
Super chill. Great swing music. Good drinks.
Shanda Bailey
An absolute must!!!
V Huynh
Staying at the Roosevelt and lucky to have this bar downstairs! Order the sazerac and Ramos gin fizz! Excellent drinks
liam rickard
Great bar, no dress code or booking necessary
Ken Kauffman
Had to get my first sazerac cocktail here. The novelty was worth the $14 price tag, but I won't ever pay that much for a sazerac again. For that price, I was considering stealing the etched glass that said "Sazerac Bar" on it, but decided against carrying around a heavy cocktail glass with me the rest of the day and night.
George Johnson
Great experience but ince it is packed. The servers can lose track of you unless you acknowledfe yourself. Seating is community so you may have to share with others. Bar is your best bet for fastest service
Michael Davis
Great drinks and service. Nice upscale atmosphere. They had very limited seating but got the drinks out quick.
Brittany Vruwink
Excellent drinks and atmosphere.
Keith Cote
The drinks are certainly expensive, but I'd say they are worth it. Nothing beats getting a Ramos gin fizz with over an inch of foam protruding from the glass
Rocky Gioe
Had a few drinks and some charbroiled oysters. They were delish. Our server was amazing. Very accommodating.
gene henry ward
First Class this time, all the time. The bartenders here just rock. Period. Sazeracs here are classic, and stiff, but superb. I opted to stick with the Southern Gentleman--fantastic alternative. Whoowhee. Perfection.
robert hughes
Ramos Gin Fizz is like a
Key-lime pie...with Gin...Ahhh-mazing
Thomas Jolley
Historic bar one of the best sazerac in the city.
Jarrod
Incredible experience. Loved everything about it. The design, atmosphere, service and drinks were awesome! Ramos gin fizz is a must.
Ross Moran
I heard from Greg that this bar is delightful. He is correct. It is delightful. There is a great mural on the wall that tells a story. I dont know what the story is, but it's delightful.
Skip Johnston
The classic Sazerac is legit, but these bar tenders are on point. If Sazerac isn't your jam ask them for something else. It's all great!
Shannon Jones
Small and cozy. Great snacks and specialty cocktails.
Eric Borlaug
Lovely bar in a lovely, historic hotel. You can get equally good cocktails for less here, but rarely with such service and ambiance.
Jennifer White
OMG. We wish Jonah was our actual server. Absolutely PHENOMENAL service with hilarious banter. He’s an absolute gem and made our Christmas one to remember.
Daniel Messa
Was a fun place to get a drink
Phil Baughn
Always a great experience, an original Sazerac, great food and service, never fails. This was fried chicken night, southern at it's best.

Josef Aukee
Top spot for classic cocktails. Fantastic vibe and dreamy escape from the night outdoors. It was most memorable spot on last visit to NO.
Michael Forcan
Lovely décor in the hotel, worth a visit.
A Hold
Try the Ramos Gin Fizz. Located inside The Roosevelt, a Waldorf Astoria Hotel. The bar was built in1935 with a bar made from a single African Walnut tree, artwork featuring Andrew Carnegie and J.P. Morgan, and trophy from the 1878 Ascot Cup. It has a lot of history and you actually feel like you are in 1935.
Speedy Man
Expensive Sazerac, but tasty. Worth it to sit and chill in the beautiful art deco bar.
Mariani Kino
Very tasty cocktails and wine, Ramos Gin Fizz taking the lead in deliciousness.
Bar snacks were cool too
M Reaves
Great, old school cocktail bar with excellent service and professional bartenders. Dark and clubby, it had a beautiful look and cozy atmosphere. And you pay for that. If it wasn't for the prices, this might be my local!
Tamara Wik
A classic establishment worth a visit to try their namesake cocktail. Sure, it's expensive, but I found it more interesting than the WW2 museum.
Eric Davis
Always enjoy wine-ding down here!
Jack Chelton
Fantastic bar and home of the Sazerac. Perfect night for cocktail lovers. Highly recommend to anyone who likes a drink.
michael grande

Trevor Holder
Fantastic atmosphere. The bartender was an expert at making drinks. I could really tell he knew what he was doing and it showed in the drinks.
Justin Broussard
Great place, small but the selection of top shelf Bourbon is a game changer.

The home of the original Sazerac, and they'll fight to prove they still mix the definitive version. Probably worth a stop, but the prices aren't for the faint of heart.
