Excellent brunch spot with friendly staff. My friends and I came here for a leisurely meal and had an amazing time.
We ordered the pomegranate mimosa and champagne cocktail to start. They were light, just the right amount of sweetness, and the perfect drinks to go with brunch.
For our meals, we ordered the breakfast sandwich, a side of grits, and the Wagyu beef burger with a fried egg. My friend who ordered the breakfast sandwich said it was the best one she has ever had. The burger was also delicious, which came with the crispiest side of fries. The grits were very tasty, but just note that it is a bit spicy as they mix in their housemaid hot sauce.
What truly stood out from our experience was the excellent service that was provided by Randy who had a great sense of humor. He also treated us to some fun desserts. A very special thank you to Randy for making our dining experience during our trip to New Orleans such a memorable one.
All in all, this is a great spot to stop by for brunch for locals and tourists alike, and I 100% recommend it!

Great restaurant in the middle of the quarter on Chartres. Very cool, sexy vibes. Located in an old carriage house it's got a cool bar with nice cocktails. Try the 'Urban Sombrero'. It's like a smoky strawberry margarita. The menu is seasonal and I usually go with their pork dishes. I've had pork loin, pork belly, pork neck...all with interesting sides like rice grits. The charred cabbage was delicious too. The music is always on point, from 50s Cuban mambo to 60s reggae to garage rock, etc. The place is cool and the food is creative and lovingly nad3 with high quality ingredients. Great to impress your date and get the mood going or by yourself at the bar. Also boasts a sweet courtyard to dine in as well!

I'd been walking around the French Quarter all day looking for a good restaurant that wasn't too expensive or touristy. I was actually walking to check out a place next door and passed an alley with groovy music. The alley led to a cool courtyard with outdoor dining and a dark bar. I didn't have a reservation but they squeezed me in on the patio. I started with delicious cornbread that the kitchen brought out warm. The salmon was probably the best I've ever had, and I couldn't resist the banana pudding for dessert. The service was friendly and prompt. One of the best meals I've had in a long time and I wasn't even looking for this place. A new favorite!

The charm of this restaurant is how unassuming every aspect of it is, starting with its tucked-away location that you could almost walk right by. The menu is so delicious all around that you can’t go wrong, although the corn bread (with a spicy kick) and braised short rib (mouth watering) are delectable. Also, get your sazerac here because the bartenders know what they’re doing. Pull up a chair and enjoy yourself for a delicious meal without breaking the bank.

Pork loin, salad, grilled octopus appetizer and a beer all for under $100. We didn't have reservations so we opted for sitting at the bar, a few minutes wait. We could have sat outside in the courtyard, but as of late the temperature has been close to 100. All in all a pleasant dining experience.

Got here on a sunday night at 6 and snatched the last seats at the bar. I wasn’t sure what to order but the bartender was so helpful and made good suggestions. Service and cocktails/food was excellent! My husband isn’t an adventurous eater at all while I am and we were both very happy with the options on the menu. I also enjoyed the ambience a lot. Nice - but laid back. Good for a date but not kitschy romantic.

Our group LOVED Sylvain. It's the perfect blend of cool, funky, friendly and yummy. I brought a large group in for a birthday and the wait staff was so kind. The pappardelle w/bolognese was my favorite. Can't wait to go back. Great drinks too.
Paige Shorter
We were walking down the street and saw a candlelit courtyard and a smell I can't describe. We decided to stroll down the alley and see what was smelling so good. We were lucky and only had to wait two minutes for a table. We were limiting ourselves on dishes so we could eat more so we picked one thing, and It made me just want more. We did thier cabbage dish, it's grilled and served with a peanut and tomato sauce. It's hard to explain but I'll never forget it. I honestly cannot wait to come back to new Orleans just for this place! The staff was amazing by the way, also, offer to buy these amazing chefs a round of drinks too, they're worth it!!

Really well prepared food. The fries were perfect. Chicken sandwich and burger were both really good. Cute little outside eating area. I had a sazerac which was tasty and well made. Overall we’d definitely eat there again.

Was exhausted from a long day of sight seeing and almost didn’t make it to Sylvain’s, especially since they were so busy, they weren’t doing delivery. I am so glad I stumbled over because it was definitely one of the best meals I had in New Orleans! Came for the cornbread with spicy, honey butter (and gorgeous crust), stayed for the marvelous atmosphere and *talented* bar manager, Cynthia. I sat at the bar and despite handling multiple tables and orders at once, always made sure I was looked after. The salad with fried chicken was also super yummy with great textures— next time I’ll ask for dressing on the side.

So down here in the French quarters with a group of us we tried to stop at this place after our ghostly tour. Unfortunately they were closed at night so I decided to come back the next day and try it out and by far was amazed on the scenery the decor and items on the food small list by the way. So for appetizers I started with chilled roasted carrots and crispy octopus. For the entree I had a Bolognese. So good in flavorful

Sylvain's market salad was average. The breakfast bowl was good but some potatoes were burnt. The cocktails were good. The atmosphere was nice and also they have a cute patio in the back.
Mackenzie Brisben
Super delicious breakfast here. I had the mimosa, sorrow spritz and the champagne cocktail. All very good. My fav drink was the Lazarus. We had the Sylvain Market Salad, French Toast, Sylvain Breakfast, and the Chicken Sandwich. It was super delicious. The French Fries were amazing as well. Love the ambiance both indoor and outdoors. The courtyard was so cute. Kind staff. Loved it!
Cynthia Pounds
Went for dinner on our last night in New Orleans. The food was amazing. The atmosphere was dark and sultry. Their motto is “too dark and too loud”
Loved everything. They have a beautiful courtyard but it was raining.
Amber Lynott
Fabulous gem in the New Orleans French Quarter. A nice change of pace from traditional Southern fare, but not a complete departure. Cornbread appetizer was amazing, as was the halibut.
Todd Atwell
Cozy and relaxing. Chicken sandwich was great! Bartenders were really nice to visit with. Cocktails were just right.
Derek C
Wonderful experience! I think what made it so great had to be the staff. Everyone was so nice and the restaurant truly moved around like a fine oil machine. We watched in amazement how they all worked as a team. The food had great flavor and all dishes were very unique. We didn’t have one complaint. Even having to wait, the staff made the time fly by because they were continuously checking on us.
Sylvain owner(s), you have a great restaurant with outstanding staff members. Cherish them because that is hard to find nowadays.

Wonderful restaurant and bar! The drinks were amazing. We ended up celebrating thanksgiving here and they were able to squeeze us in - the prefix menu was totally worth the price. They nailed the turkey. So much better than if we’d gone elsewhere. Highly recommend this spot.
Sydney Houlemard
hidden, quaint spot in the FQ. at night it’s especially nestled on Chartres St. the ambiance is cool, but the lighting is a bit dim inside. overall, service was good but took a little bit for food to come. however, food was good & i enjoyed the time there.
Tiffany Gilly-Forrer
Incredible NOLA courtyard place for dinner and drinks! I went for happy hour! Wish there were more food options for happy hour but what they do have is absolutely incredible. The fries are perfect and the cornbread is unbeatable. Had a spicy drink that tasted fantastic and absolutely fell in love with the ambiance of a small courtyard bar/restaurant. Been looking for the perfect one in the French quarter and I think I found it!
Kerri K
3 stars for good food. We thought the sign of the restaurant looked inviting, more upscale but once inside...no. The servers seemed more interested in dancing to the rap music that was playing than waiting on us. The lavender lemon cocktail was not good. Smelled like a bubble bath. We had burgers which while overcooked were good. 0 atmosphere
Pete Hicks
Cool spot. Food is pretty good. Sunday brunch had blasting hip hop music which is the only negative I could come up with.
sasheen c
Our server was fantastic and the table recommendations on dishes since this was our first time there. Drinks were great as well. It was candle lit and they played hip hop music (not too loud) which made for a super cool vibe.
Zach Miller
I would say this place is easily one of my top 5 if not my favorite place in Nola. The atmosphere is electric, the food is the best, and the service was fantastic. Had a great time with friends and the server was cutting up with us like we had grown up together. Went there two days in a row with a different server the second day and had the same experience. I'll be back!
Ian Lever
A delightful dinner! Cozy and elevated vibe. Beautiful are in their beautiful courtyard area. Every dish was delicious and fresh. The fish dishes and cornbread were fan favorites. Service was great and very friendly.
Andreas Aristidou
Apologies about the bad picture quality. This place is quite dark during evenings. This restaurant is a very interesting and different from most in the area. Very gourmet-style so expect small portions for a regular-sized meal size. However! The food was incredible! Every plate was great. The octopus, the chicken sandwich, the watermelon salad. The chef here is very talented! Would’ve preferred outdoor seating and their air conditioning was set so low. Also there was gum under the table..
Sharon Kleindienst
The BEST restaurant to have stumbled across on Google. A fantastic spot for any meal but the brunch was amazing. Moody venue, artisanal drinks, and mouthwatering fried chicken & waffles that will have us coming back next we’re in New Orleans.
A top spot I’ll be dreaming of long after our vacation ends and among the best spots we’ve eaten at anywhere.
Chandra Turner
Best place we ate in NOLA. Gorgeous dining room, attentive staff, food was authentic and delicious. Also a bonus: They only took as many tables as they could handle -- which we didn't find at any other restaurant in NOLA. It was expensive but was worth it. (Spent nearly as much at other places that were half as good.)
Camron Watlington (Cam)
It was the best meal I've ever had in my life. If you value and seek beauty and personal fulfillment in life, then please go to this restaurant.
I looked back at this two years later, and I still believe the burger depicted in the pictures is the best burger I’ve ever had in my entire life.
I’ve probably eaten several hundred burgers since then, and nothing has come as close to giving me that Ratatouille moment like this burger managed to provide.
Jackie Westbrook
What a great meal. My wife and I celebrated her birthday there and it was amazing. I had the fish, she had the short rib, and each dish was superb. Laid back vibe, great service, wonderful presentation.
Michael Cohn
Sylvain has many good items on their menu, but we go there for the spicy fried chicken thigh sandwich. The chicken is fried extra crispy with house made srirachi and the fries are delicious. Some other notes - they do not have iced tea, the staff can be a bit off putting, and it is not cheap. Still, go ahead enjoy yourself.
Kevin Lehman
Food was spectacular and atmosphere was nice, although I will say with outdoor dining available may be best to not preset tables or at the very least...keep the leaves and dirt off the tables, silverware and glassware. Service with our waitress when we got there was very good (female, blonde hair). We were handed off to a gentleman who was very innatentive. Overall...we would come back as the food was very good. Just some details that could have, and should have been better.
Paul Wolfert
SO good! The service and food were phenomenal. Absolutely worth the wait.
Cindy Keely
Tucked away in a quiet court, this find didn't disappoint. The cabbage appetizer was outstanding along with local cold beer. Highly recommend this nice spot to step off busy streets.
Laura Welch
Giving a 4 but could easily creep to a 5....We enjoyed a delicious, quick, and unpretentious meal here. The space is very nice, and the bathrooms are clean. They were thankfully following all the pandemic rules carefully. We had the burger and chicken sandwich, with a dessert; all very good, and though simple, made with quality ingredients. The second server was really nice and took great care of us. The first server forgot about us, but thankfully they seem to not really have "sections" since another noticed us and took over. I regret not trying some of the more adventurous items on the menu or the cocktails, which I hear are great. Will definitely try again.
Eric Nielsen
What a fantastic gem of a restaurant in the French quarter. the cast iron cornbread, charred cabbage and encrusted fish with andouille salsa was great and so was the Eaton Mess (pear with vanilla). Excellent presentation and the flavors were delicate yet savory!
BK
As a kind of a burger aficionado, I felt compelled to write this review. My wife and I came to Sylvain for a late dinner. The cornbread appetizer was good, the spiced butter melting on the top paired perfectly with the sweetness of the bread. The short rib dinner left much to be desired. The ribs were overdone and the sauce was a tad too sweet. The BURGER though. Ordered it medium, and it came to the table cooked perfectly. Minimal toppings- delicious cheddar and thinly sliced pickles. No condiments. It was divine. I'm not sure what their blend of meat is but the taste of beef shined through and was accented perfectly by the cheese and pickle. The pillowy bun was just sweet enough. Do not feel ashamed of ordering "just a burger" at Sylvain- it is outstanding and should be highlighted by the restaurant. Don't forget the perfectly cooked fries and ask for garlic aioli for dipping!
Kelsey Lynn
Great dinner. The reverse ravioli is every pregnant woman’s dream. They were able to accommodate us at the bar on thanksgiving. Ashley was great. Thanks for making our thanksgiving awesome.
Jared Heimovitz
It was about 9pm and my wife and I stumbled down a dark alley... psychedelic music blared out of the dimly lit bar, where we found a seat and proceeded to have one of the best meals we had in New Orleans. My biggest regret is not trying a cocktail... hope to be back soon!
Daisy Xu
You definitely want to sit in the backyard! The inside sittings are pretty dim at night, and we can’t see the dishes we ate…
I would say the food was so-so, most people are here for the bar and the view, and the price is not cheap.
Michael Stevenson
REALLY cool spot. Made a booking for dinner and didn't regret it. I ordered the pappardelle bolognese and my partner ordered the cornbread crusted gulf fish. We also shared the burrata and cornbread. Food and drinks were amazing, but the atmosphere was incredible. The experience starts when you first enter and walk down a dark alley with gaslit lamps, once inside, it has a trendy warehouse-y feel to it. I'd recommend making a reservation because it was very busy and it looked like people were having to wait or turned away.
Erik Bivens
Great spot right off Jackson Square. Food was excellent. Server very pushy on appetizers. Reminder when you sit outside in the quarter you will gets whiffs of raw sewage anywhere you go. Music outside extremely loud but that’s their vibe.
Eric Allan
The food is the star here, though we only shared a couple small items, it was some of the best food we had in New Orleans! I can't find the name on their online menu of what we enjoyed the most, but it had duck and poached eggs. The eggs were perfect, and the duck was so incredibly flavorful! Our drinks were also excellent. The staff is top-notch here, everyone was very attentive from the moment we walked in. There was a slight wait for the courtyard, but we were offered a spot at the bar to wait, and then were able to take our drinks with us once the table opened, and pay for everything together at the end. Our server was on top of everything, and very pleasant! Next time in town, we will absolutely come back!
Anna Eldridge
Cozy atmosphere and excellent food and cocktails. I have Celiac Disease and they were able to accommodate my gluten free diet, too!
Sarah
Wow, this place is PHENOMENAL! My sister and I agreed that this was one of the best meals we've ever had. We started with cocktails - a Pom Collins and a Lavender Champagne. Both were unique and fresh, and we loved them. Then we ordered the cheese platter as a starter, which included three different cheeses, a blackberry compote, bread, pecans, and some tiny greens. We loved it. Our entrees were truly fantastic. I ordered the Beef Cheeks and my sister ordered the fish of the day dish. Every bite was SO delicious! You can tell the menu is so well planned and the flavors were perfectly balanced in each dish.
Our waitress was also super friendly and helpful. We loved talking with her. Prices are on the higher end, but are 100% worth it and reasonable considering the quality. We spent about $100 before tip on the two cocktails, cheese platter, and two entrees. We definitely recommend that you visit Sylvain!
Justin Taylor
AMAZING Brunch! The Chicken Sandwich is a huge must have! The house made hot sauce is really really good but it is Spicey so if you don’t like Spicey foods get it on the side!
Laurie Jansen
This is a good place. Food was precisely what we were looking for good quality, awesomeness to eat. We sat at the bar and the bar guy knows his drinks.
Will Grant
Atmosphere, service and food/cocktails were fantastic. We can’t wait to come back!
Also, amazing playlist….that, along with the decor, created an amazing vibe.
Katie Dives
Absolutely wonderful! I had the best Wasabi crusted fish I have ever eaten here! The depth of flavors developed in the sauces, broths and dressings was completely mouth watering! Also, the drinks were top notch and all was very affordable! We came in on a cold night after walking the french quarter, chilled to the bone and the hostess even put a heater by our table! Would love to eat here again!
Kim Gill
Absolutely the best meal I've had in a very long time. We had the Pork Belly with the cauliflower and cornbread, simply out of this world. By far the best food in New Orleans.
Phillip Strano
Nice atmosphere, good service, tasty cocktails, excellent food.
Greg Johnson
I had a good night here. They were serving late on labor day weekend and it wasnt packed. I ordered the Brussel Salad and the pork shoulder. They are both pictured. The atmosphere was pretty nice and the waitresses were responsive. This meal made me full and Intook a half shoulder home. The brussel salad was really crunchy. I was expecting alot of brussel sprouts , but that doesnt seem to be what this dish was. It was good and I do recommend
Alejandro Cruz
Good not great. The venue and vibe of Sylvain was very cozy and charming. The was a short wait time and they allow you to order drinks while you wait. A very nice choice of refreshing drinks. The location is right in the middle of everything but it’s on the quieter side of things. We were able to get seated inside which is a nice relief from the heat. The food just happened to miss the mark slightly. Also, and this may be commonplace in the French Quarter, there was a ginormous roach walking on the wall right by me.
Georgia Vozos Buley
Definitely come here and definitely make a reservation. We came for brunch and had an exceptional experience. The service was so friendly and genuine. The atmosphere is relaxed and warm. Everything we tried was mouthwatering. My drink of choice was the Lazarus Spritz. A play on a mimosa (kind of). It was delicious. We shared the light and crisp shaved brussel sprouts, which were a perfect appetizer to our meals. I went with the Vietnamese steak and eggs and was FAR from disappointed. The beef was so succulent and had a perfect balance of flavors. You can choose how you want your eggs-- I went with over easy and they were a perfect mate to the steak. Served with three slices of toasted baguette, one slathered with delicious pâté. It was a perfect plate. My boyfriend ordered the shrimp and grits and that was also so good. Tender shrimp, light but purposeful flavors. Very satisfying.
Hannah Scherer
This is definitely a hidden gem!!! Everything is super unique and delicious! Very personable and sweet staff!!! We also came around closing and they still welcomed us in! Would literally come back to New Orleans just for this restaurant itself! The beef cheeks are to die for! It is the most tender meat you will ever eat in your life! And they are open until 11 which is surprisingly hard to find!
Boris Suarez
This place is just fantastic. At first I didn't want to go inside because from outside you can really tell how beautiful is the restaurant. After reading all the good reviews I decided to finally go inside. The service was fast and good. Everything was cooked to perfection and beautifully garnished. This was one of my best meals during my stay. I would definitely be back and I recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for excellent food and service.
John Kim
I had dinner here and all the food was so great. The sampler (I don’t remember the exact name) is a must go. Also, the fried pork shoulder was pretty good too. I would definitely come to this place again if I visit New Orleans again.
Deanne Rae
One of the best burgers I've had in a while. Cocktails are really good as well. Came here during Hurricane Barry, and was glad they were open and had amazing foods!
JoanElaine Justice
I am so happy to return after 3 years. Came to town to see U2 in 2017 and went to Sylvains with a friend. We loved it. When I returned to New Orleans it was on my list to return to. So happy I did. Everything is on point from the walk way in to the lighting , music , decor. The atmosphere is wonderful. We ate at the bar both times . Excellent friendly service. Great cocktails. Food was tremendous. The southern charcuterie was fantastic! Cornbread was the best. The grilled pork shoulder patties were simply delicious. Treat yourself to their special after dinner drink made from roasted corn puree with mezcal. Sort of an eggnogish drink. Really fantastic and completely original.
Akeisha Rodney
Loveeeddd!!Ellie is AMAZING!!The Cocktails she curates deserves awards. She even made mocktails that were just as amazing the Cocktails. Loved the vibe and energy of this places Literally a gem of NOLA!Thank You!
Malissa Kulick
Bartenders were very knowledgeable on spirits and very friendly. The food was on point! My boyfriends steak was tender and succulent! My shrimp and grits were very flavorful and the burrata was so good! Overall, this was our favorite spot in the french quarter!
Sarena Fritch
A beautiful restaurant both inside and out, but a bit difficult to find from the street. Our Lyft driver was as confused as we were when dropping us off at the place according to the map. After looking in some windows however, we had success and were promptly seated in the courtyard.
We opted for four small plates and were not disappointed. Their selections are unusual and creative, but delectable. The white gazpacho with grapes was heavenly and beyond compare.
Cocktails were good, service was great, and the ambiance was near perfect.
wonhee cho
Octopus was exceptional. All the dishes were so good. Hidden gem of Bourbon St.
Peter Jelinek
Stumbled into this famous place for dessert. Turns out they go thru 70k pounds of 🍌a year for flaming bananas foster. Oh yeah the cocktails are excellent
Alice
Lovely alfresco dining area in the back, very romantic and quiet. Delicious fresh seafood and great selection of cocktails. This was our first restaurant in New Orleans and we were impressed :)
John Waters
Nice place. Good food. Cocktails are delicious and bartenders that know their trade.
Kristin Beaupre
So good! We had a vegetarian in our party so we stuck with the appetizers for a shared dinner and it was perfect. Everything is well crafted and care is taken for the composition. Depth of flavor in every dish. Truly a delicious dinner not just for New Orleans but for anywhere. Will definitely recommend. Matt was a fantastic server as well!
Xabier Granja
Pretty good restaurant, I enjoyed the ambiance and the food. The burger was white yummy, and the late was great. Overall, nice for dinner without much fuss.
Amber
The cornbread was perfection. Fluffy inside, crusty edges with a heap of delicious butter. The burger was ultra decadent, definitely splittable. Funky cheese and meat combo made it mouth watering. I had the Ube gin drink and it was very enjoyable. We found this place by searching “late night French quarter food” and we will definitely be back.
Joseph Raczynski
Very cool outdoor space! The drinks were all crafted. They were also especially friendly.
jo
such a sweet little hidden place. It’s tucked away from the street and has a beautiful, private narrow courtyard with twinkle lights and plants all around. It feels more like a place locals would hang out, not a crazy party vibe. The food was delicious and interesting, probably the best meal I had this time around in NOLA. my drink was delicious and boozy and my sister said that the salmon dish was the best she’s ever had. Service was nonchalant, unpretentious and friendly
Vineet Bhatawadekar
Excellent dinner place. I had the fish special which was delicious. Good selection of wines as well.
Jacob Kaitholil
Great restaurant tucked away in the middle of the French Quarter. The cornbread, octopus, and short ribs were delicious. To top it off the drinks were nice and strong with great flavor profiles.
Aria Miles
My friends and I stumbled upon Sylvain after a long day of exploring the city. Glad to find a dinner spot open late, we didn't mind waiting a little while for a table. The hostess was very kind and attentive as we waited for a table. The food was great - I had the cornbread and charred cabbage since it was late. The portions were larger than I expected and both options were very good. My friends all enjoyed their dishes (crispy octopus, crispy pork belly, chicken sandwich) as well. The only downside was that the room was very dark - ambiance is nice but it was sometimes hard to see. The delicious food definitely made up for that! I hope to eat here again when I return to New Orleans.
HOLLY SNYDER
We had a spectacular dinner and wonderful celebration at Sylvain
in New Orleans.
A beautiful setting, warm and welcoming and friendly staff and
an amazing dinner!
The cast iron cornbread was tasty.
The charred cabbage was the best we have ever had!
The Sylvain market salad was fresh and delicious.
The chilled roasted carrots were delightful.
My sesame soy glazed short ribs were scrumptiously delicious.
Everyone loved their dinner. We can't wait to go back!
Thank you Sylvain for a wonderful dinner.
Nikki Somers
Fabulous atmosphere! The food was to die for, I had the Bolognese and my friends had the salmon and gulf fish. Yummy cocktails and a awesome bartender and waitress
Jay G
SOOO GOOD!! Beautiful, hidden gem. I tried to book a reservation but it wasn’t allowing me to, so I called asking about walk-ins and we were able to be seated within 5 minutes (5pm). We had the mushrooms as an appetizer which were delicious. My friend and I both had the burger and absolutely agreed it was one of the best burgers we’ve ever had! Cocktails were delicious and our server even let us know when happy hour was about to end in case we wanted to order another before time (very appreciated)!!
Katie Boudreau
Stopped by with a small group on a Monday night. No seating was available inside, so we sat out back in the patio area, where it was pretty warm. I’d recommend trying to get a seat inside to stay cool, although the patio was pretty with the strung lights.
I got the pasta bolognese, and it was ok, a bit on the spicy side so make sure to have plenty to drink!
Our service was pretty slow, it took a long time to get drinks for five of us, and to finally get to order our food.
I might go back, but maybe when it’s cooler if I get stuck eating outside again.
Steven S
Great service. Great Atmosphere. Our table had the corn-bread crusted gulf fish (perfectly cooked, delicious, divine), bolognese (adequate, traditionally made), fried chicken sandwich (handmade, proficient). Overall, worth a visit!

oh my god this restaurant was a true gem. i wish i took more pictures at Sylvain but i didn't so i will use words. imagine a dark, candlelit vampire restaurant hidden away but right near jackson square. we entered through this awesome breezeway into an idyllic cozy courtyard where we found the hostess stand. it was a wednesday night so not busy but looked to be an even mix of locals and tourists. perfect! it was humid as heck of course so we sat inside and cooled off while perusing their extensive drink menu and small but sufficient dinner options. addy started with a bourbon lemonade thingy on rocks and i asked about their frozen drinks as i wanted something cold but grownup. the fancypants greyhound is what i went with and it more than delivered. strong but not too sweet at all. i really enjoyed their playlist of old school heavy metal and classic rock b sides. all the waitstaff were friendly and fun and all wore black tees with metal designs which perfectly matched my occult mood that evening. i would have bought one of those tees but they were out 😢. we wanted something to eat but weren't starving. addy had pork belly as she often does and it was the best i ever had in life. melty, crunchy, salty, soft heaven. the presentation and quality of the dishes were outstanding, like something you might expect to see on Treme or some other show about nola. very fair prices tho. i had their market salad which contained very fresh ingredients, an amazing, unique dressing and the perfect portion size. i never order fried oysters but i did that night and they were also the best i have had in life. crunchy outside, gooey maritime salty goodness inside. addy finished with the chocolate pot de creme which she seemed to like a lot but wasn't my style. super dark and rich chocolate/pecan goodness though if you are into that sort of thing. i want to go back here asap. they said the restaurant has been there 13 years or so.
Victoria Reid
Enjoyed the outdoor patio which was wonderfully lit and felt very private. Service was good and attentive. Every one of the six people I dined with enjoyed their meals.
Ariel Yegelwel
Perfect romantic dinner. Do Not Skip Dessert, the banana pudding and chocolate pot de creme were AMAZING!
loved eating in the courtyard
Philippe LeRouzic
We were not having a good night (I won't go into details). The staff turned it all around and we ended up enjoying our food. Everyone is entitled to have a bad night it's the recovery that makes the difference.
Jerry Ratigan
Wonderful experience. Food was delightfully magnificent. Scallops were amazing. Pasta was fresh and exquisite. Odd low lighting in the dining room makes for interesting mood lighting. Main meals average $25. Also, a decent cocktail and wine list.
Jeremy Vanburen
Friendly service with attention to detail. Best roast chicken I have ever had. My wife's handmade pasta Bolognese was delicious as well!
William O'Hara
Honestly best french fries I've ever had. Did even want to try anything else they were so good.
Marissa Plaza
Delicious brunch! Awesome drinks! We went to NOLA for the first time and a friend recommended this to us! Definitely will come back next time!
Cora Durrin
Best burger and scallops we've ever had! Great drinks too!

Excellent food and cocktails in very moody setting. Try the firing squad! Also loved the cornbread and the bolongese.
Jacques Straneaux
Nice little gem, tucked away in the heart of Quarter.
Jessica Michael
Amazing first dinner in NOLA! Great food. Friendly staff. Amazing ambiance in the outdoor courtyard. Will definitely be back.
Peter Hefti
Great restaurant to escape the madness of the French quarter. First came here in 2015 and it was great then; still good today. Chicken sandwich is top-notch.
Nicholas Whelton
This restaurant is one of my favorites!! So thankful for the staff that works here. They have a great selection of cocktails that keep you coming back as well as food that can make even the biggest foodie keep coming back. I wouldn’t say to get any particular item on the menu because every time I come I get something different and it hasn’t failed me yet!! I really hope u enjoy the atmosphere as much as I do, u won’t be disappointed I promise!
Mary Anne McKinnies
Short ribs were incredible. Service started amazing but transitioned to mediocre but the chocolate dessert was knocked your socks off.
Alex Osborne
Food was cooked well, well presented and hot, our waiter (Jacob) explained what was fish of the day and assisted us in making informed choices for our food. We intend to return for another meal 👍👍 …
Hendrik Stegall
We shared small plates at the bar and had a great experience. The bartenders were skilled and friendly, and the food we got was very tasty. We tried the charred cabbage, market salad + chicken, and pork belly, and I'd recommend all of them. We sat inside to get seated quicker, but the courtyard in back looked like it would be a great place to dine.
Liz Smith
It was great! Food was good. Drinks were good. Atmosphere was good. Service is fantastic! Great place for a quiet lunch or dinner.
Alexander Olmos
Great staff. Lovely ambience plus most delicious and perfectly cooked food. A must go and enjoy this restaurant.
Olivia Rogers
This would’ve been a really pretty spot for dinner but we were all so uncomfortable. The air conditioning was on full blast, the music was so loud I could barely hear what anyone was saying at our table, and it was really dark. I see how this could be a romantic date night though. Nice cocktail list and good recommendations from our server. We shared the roasted carrots and the glazed king trumpet mushrooms for the appetizer and the salmon and halibut for our entrees. It wasn’t a lot of food but it was delicious. They brought out a free small dessert for my brother’s birthday which I though was sweet. Would probably sit outside next time since it seemed to be a little less loud out there.
Robb McKerrow
Awesome experience. Great vibe at the bar. Amazing craft cocktails - I had the Saz, and for desert the Ice Box Killer cocktail. Ellie was attentive, fun, and joy to chat with! Theysome great 80's classics playing on the music side! Great looking crowd, and dinner in the courtyard looked amazing. Great menu. Highly recommended!
Renee Shuman
Amazing! Get the cornbread, pasta, amazingly crispy short ribs, and the salad. Wash it down with a perfectly mixed drink.
Jessica Prevost
Best experience during our whole trip in NO happened here! Don’t sleep on this place, amazing food, wonderful service, great atmosphere!
neil cabael
Went w a foodie friend from california. Wine and menu is not vast but out of the 5 reds 2 we had were incredible. Same with apps and entree. I can eat the same item again n again its so good. Highlights tonight was eating in the back courtyard and the antipasto plate.
Cesar Gonzalez Buenrostro
Not sure if it should be a 3 or a 4...
The Good,
- food was great, the service at table was very good !
The bad.
- NOT all the menú is available during COVID, I’d say it’s pretty limited.
The Ugly,
- we were at the entrance, waiting for a host to come back, 3 employees passed by and no one said Hi!.... a bit disappointing.
Rowell Adrian
Beautiful Courtyard with Great Service! The Spicy Chicken Sandwich and Fries were absolutely delicious!
Nellie Bee
The food was delicious. We went specifically for the beef cheeks based on a recommendation. It was so gooood. The service was excellent. The music was great.
Meg Dowdy
Good food and attentive service just steps from Bourbon street. The shaved Brussels sprouts are worth a look. Well-curated but smaller wine list. Cozy atmosphere with a lovely courtyard.
Oussama Fattouh
Well i tried the brussel sprouts salad and hamburger... And everything was good they need more lighting in the place it was kind of dark. Waitress was nice and helpful
Daman Yang
Had a great experience sitting by the bar! Chicken sandwich is absolutely delicious. Bronze is an awesome bartender and gave us great recs. Will definitely be back!
Ross Hudgins
We just got the burger and chicken sandwich with some drinks, but they were amazing. Definitely recommending this place to friends.
Smevin Bravis
Absurdly delicious food that in spite of a slightly higher plate price average is worth every penny. Entrance is neat too, like one of those places you have to walk around to the back to get into because you're all cool and in the know😎
Loved the chill atmosphere and the cute names of some of the items, and the menu is so original and well put together that while some items may sound intimidating, trust and believe that a bad meal here simply isn't a thing. Definite must to come here for dinner on a nola trip!
Hannah Towle
Beautiful backyard patio and great food. Service was lacking personality and our meal had upgraded pricing without notification.
robert lowry
Although Sylvain is still a favorite, tonight was underwhelming. The pork loin was way over cooked and the bar was off its game. The watermelon burrata was off the charts good though.
I will always recommend to friends, but hope things pick up a bit soon.
Sarah Peters
So dark I walked right by a friend sitting at a nearby table and didn't realize we were both there until the next day. Great food, drinks, and service though.
Lisa Ellis
Lovely atmosphere, good venue only had a drink here but will return to try the menu
mrbadguysan
A cozy spot with intriguing food and beverages away from the madness if Bourbon Street.
My Ratatouille with rice was lovely, and the housemade cola was marvellous.
Ask for Dawn, she'll get you what you need.
Lexandra J
Really cool spot that was like being in The Originals. I half expected Elijah and Niklaus to appear with Cami. Awesome vibes/music and even better drinks 🍸 🙌
Brittany Harris
The best meal we had in NOLA- and you know that’s saying a lot! Loved the ambiance, too - much calmer and more intimate than most places in the French quarter. A real hidden gem.
Taylor Greer
Probably the best of our trip! Excellent happy hour cocktails, they even made my wife off menu mocktails that were arguably better than the alcoholic stuff. Dark and candlelit vibe with good service, wasn’t too busy for a Friday night.
Dinner was delicious - pappardelle bolognese was amazing and the pork shoulder was unexpected, almost like a pork belly exterior but wonderful tender meat all the way thru.
A S
Fantastic service from the hostess to the waitress themselves. The food was fantastic with a wide selection, great ambience and I loved the music selection. I would absolutely recommend this place to a friend especially for date spot
Jennifer Appel
I really wanted to like Sylvain. I did a lot of research on a restaurant with great food and drinks. I think the place has potential, but I don't think this was exactly my vibe.
Pros:
- my Sazerac was delicious
- the chicken sandwich was amazing
Cons:
- the pork appetizer was really greasy
- It was also so dark in there that I couldn't see the menu or my date. I know ambiance is a thing, but I thought it was too much.
- our waitress was really rude. She seemingly tried to rush us out and after declining a drink refill, she brought me a second Sazerac that I didn't ask for. I ended up drinking it and paying for it anyway because I was on vacation 🤷
- finally, the table near us knew the chef. He came out and was chatting with them, which was really nice. He proceeds to mention how the fries are purchased, not made in house, so they're just okay... Despite that comment, they were actually still good, just a weird thing to publicize.
Scott Spencer
What a great place!! Been visiting NOLA for decades, and this was right-under-my-nose! Bar is exceptional with all in-house ingredients, wide range of craft cocktails, and not your silly Bourbon St drinks. The brunch was amazing, shared several plates with our group, no one was dissatisfied. Will be back! Oh, did I mention the amazing garden patio?!
Morgan Callahan
Sat outside with my friends dog. Perfect service , food was better than expected. Definitely a step above the normal tourist spots. This is the spot for foodies that want a chill atmosphere.
John Martin
Short ribs were warm...waitress was ok. Tastes were excellent.
נוית שמאי
The food was good, not very original, the price is relatively high compared to what you get
Chelsea Pickett
Really struggled with 4 vs 5 stars. Service was lackluster and the dishes elements didn't come together very well. However, everything tasted SO good.
Cannot say enough good things about the octopus. If you have not had octopus before (or had a bad experience prior), you should give it a try. I lived in a part of Spain (Galicia) that specializes in cooked octopus and have not had octopus like that since returning stateside. It was creamy on the inside and crispy on the outside. It is a small entree and I was very tempted to order a second. The potatoes and sauce also tasted amazing, although there was a bit too much heat in the sauce for my taste buds.
My husband got the crispy pork belly. Hard to go wrong with pork belly but I do think it could have used more salt/seasoning. Plating was a bit awkward too, with portions cut too large to be single bites (not easy to cut at the table with a standard table knife) and the bites came apart at the layers easier than where you bit, so it was a bit messy until we figured out to just eat by the layer.
Sarah Hobson
This is a meal I often think about. Great location in New Orleans, beautiful, quaint setting in an alley/small restaurant. Highly recommend!
Elsa Cluet
Everything was perfect : the food, the mood, the waiter,... Thank you for this beautiful dîner !
Heather Hinton
I'll give 4 stars since our waitress tried very hard to please us, and the food was good, however we did outdoor dining, after dusk we literally had to use our phone flashlights to see our food.. imagine eating and literally not being able to see what you put in your mouth....
Rhonda Engram
Walked looking for places to eat and it was late, a lot had closed. Sylvain was by reservation only at that hour, but the host squeezed us in and it was well worth it. We ordered the spare rib and spicy chicken sandwich with fries. Spare rib was so good, we ordered a second one. Spicy chicken was also good but the fries were hard and cold. Good place to eat.
Charlie Calabrese
Fantastic food and cocktails. We loved the cornbread, so don’t sleep on it!!
Ron Flay
Nice small bistro in the French Quarter. Some outside garden seats. Small menu offerings, but everything we tried, we enjoyed. Host and server were excellent.
Meadow Gobert
Stopped in here based on local recommendations for happy hour. Service is very good. The atmosphere is dark and stuffy, maybe better for a candlelit date? Really small scattered menu. Cocktail menu- meh. Perhaps this is all due to shortages of just about anything in New Orleans.
Might go for a 2nd try next trip. Kinda bummed.
R P
This place was okay. I thought the ambiance was great, but the food wasn't anything amazing. We tried 3 different dishes and none were very impressive. If I picked a favorite, it was our appetizer the crispy pork belly. I don't feel the need to go back.
skijp27
Excellent restaurant, great experience. Modern take on new orleans food. Great ambiance. Definitely recommend
Charlene Miller
Love the charm, love the food. Not the best impression by staff but dropped in for brunch during Jazzfest week so maybe they were over it. Worth trying again.
Leah Hickson
We had a delicious meal here with high quality ingredients, superb preparation and thoughtful presentation. Try the sweet potato gnocchi. The same purity is reflected in the craft cocktails. This is the place to try a hurricane. It’s not the kitschy slushy you might be avoiding. There’s spacious indoor seating and highly prized outdoor dining as well. The whole package made for a really nice evening.
Cassidy Self
Everything was delicious, from the champagne cocktail to the cornbread crusted gulf fish. The interior is dark and dreamy.
Jose Lou
Limited menu do just got thr fries and if you like thin shoestring fries THIS IS YOUR PLACE!!
Jodi Dever
Ok service… mediocre food. 31$ for a dry piece of salmon and a dash of micro greens. I could have heat up a frozen 6oz at home and made it taste better. The bartender needs to be retrained. She told me there is egg in Sotol. Their “standard” Gibson is made of half brine.
Omar Leos
Great place for brunch. And amazing, quaint old atmosphere. Will be back again. Outstanding service.
Molly Phillips
A charming little New Orleans restaurant near Jackson Square. The food looks tasty! I was only having a Bloody Mary while my friend was shopping next door. I had an excellent Bloody Mary! I would highly recommend this cozy little restaurant for lunch, dinner and libations!
Ruth A
Great food, drinks were a bit pricy
Nick Rattini
We ordered the dealers choice. Each item that came out was excellent and I have never tasted something quite as delicious in my life. My girlfriend and I were looking for unique New Orleans cuisine and stumbled across this restaurant while heading towards the church down the street. From the music to the atmosphere to the excellent service from all staff members, we throughly enjoyed the entire experience through and through. We will be returning when we come back to the area!
Dustin Moran
Food and service were both are excellent The place looks amazing.
Jenny W
We absolutely loved our time here! We were recommended to go to this restaurant by a local bartender and of course they always know where the great places to eat are!! We ended up sharing three different things the pork,, the beets and the cornbread. Cannot recommend the cornbread enough, everything else was delicious but the cornbread was amazing!!!
Katherine Emley
I made a last-minute reservation at Sylvain and it was so worth it! The ambiance was great and the food exceeded my expectations. Shoutout to our waiter, Matt. We had a great time!
Nick Barr
Sat at the bar, great service, excellent whiskey selection.
Had several japanese whiskeys all of which were tasty.
Ate the "Coolinary menu" which is their 3 course dinner and was kind of disappointed, the salad was pretty good, pork shoulder was insanely dry, dessert was pretty good but pretty much a berry empanada.
Alex
From the front facade of Sylvian, you'd think this establishment is a small, dark hole-in-wall hidden in the French Quarter. Wrong! Once you go in, the place opens up with a gorgeous outdoor patio and tons of seating. Fooled me!
I really wanted their beef cheeks, but they were all out. Sad. We all settled for other entrees - none of which were memorable or blew my mind.
This is a safe place for dinner if you're in the area.
Mary Kraft
Lovely environment! I loved the dim lighting and overall feel. It was great for a date night while in town. Allergy information wasn’t posted on the menu but our waitress went above and beyond to accommodate my allergy once she was informed of it- so that was amazing. The food was good, but I gave four stars because I could see myself returning based on the environment and drinks over the food. All in all I would recommend!
Amanda Huebner
Amazing Amazing Amazing! This was recommended by a friend that lived in NOLA for 3 years, maybe a little hard to find that it part of the charm. We didn't have reservations so we are 3 at the bar. We ordered the duck for 2 and loved it. Definitely eat here!
Scott S
Two separate (food) industry folks recommended Sylvains as where they would eat - had to check it out. Delicious cooking at all levels! Particularly the scallops. The mixology is also really on point with original cocktails with what seemed like a Latino influence (at least the night I was there). Eat where the industry folks eat. No BS and impressively delicious.
Joe D Hebert
My family came down to NOLA for a graduation and we had reservations here for dinner. The food was fantastic. We ordered the shaved Brussels Sprouts for an appetizer and I couldn’t believe how delicious they were. I ordered the hamburger and fries for my dinner and it was the best burger I have ever had. The service was stellar and our server Jacob went above and beyond to make sure we had a special night. We were raving about our meals so much to Jacob that we actually got a visit from the chef, J.R, at our table to thank us for the compliments. The atmosphere was very relaxed and comfortable. I highly recommend coming here and I can’t wait to return.
Amy Liming
Outstanding dinner, drinks and service. Ordered the Dealer’s Choice, chef chooses your four course meal. If you are a foodie, you will love this selection. You don’t know what’s coming but know it is wonderful. The waiter asks if there are any food restrictions when you order.
Suzanne Schubert
The burger and fries were great. Also order the pork and cabbage ravioli. Both were great. The burger was generous portion and cooked as ordered. The ravioli was great, but it could have been a larger portion for the price. A small side of veggies would have been perfect.
Georgiana O'Neill
Had an absolutely amazing time at Sylvain. Our server Justin was phenomenal and knew just what to suggest after a long day of walking around the French Quarter. I had the Watermelon Salad and it was amazing especially with the bacon. We already want to go back and have more. Highly highly recommend
Dan Conley
Small portions for our group. The family style portion is what I'd expect for one person to be served. Great food and drinks. traditional atmosphere.
Annie Rein
Had to leave 5 stars because they deserve it! Pro tip - make a reservation. I made one and arrived early so only had to wait 5 minutes. The Brussels sprouts salad was one of the best salads I ever had. My mom had the bolognese and I had the chicken fried sandwich. Both were amazing and you could tell were made fresh. We also had White Russians - the bartender was so willing to make our favorite drink but the other cocktails sounded amazing! The atmosphere was superb: you don’t feel like you’re in a tourist area. It felt very private and regal. The courtyard was gorgeous, especially in the evening. You won’t be disappointed-great food in a great restaurant!
Yahyah El
If you want to go somewhere romantic, here! A little pricey but worth it!
Gaurav Patel
Food was fantastic!! End to end the meal and drinks were great. Charcuterie plate was a home run.
Kirsten Schwehm
We had a rehearsal dinner in the courtyard, so I never set foot inside, but the courtyard was like a little secret garden - the food was so good, but I'm not sure what the regular menu is like. Staff were VERY attentive and friendly!
Vidir Ragnarsson
Highly recommended. Great atmosphere. Good cocktails and the food was delicious.
Saar Grin
Gotta say i was sorely disappointed by the whole experience
To begin with they made us wait for a table while a bunch of tables were empty and remained empty throughout
The venue itself is set up as fancy romantic, but both service and food failed to deliver on expectations
Relatively to prices charged i thought the food was rather mediocre
Tbh i wish i went elsewhere
Robert Lumpkin
I went back to Sylvain yesterday after not eating there for a few years. The food was amazing, the drinks epic and the service was the best (I got a bloody mary and a salad with fried chicken). Sylvain is a safe harbor in the middle of all the tourist craziness of the quarter. I recommend it to all visiting friends and I can't wait to go back.
Tim
The bartenders were awesome - obviously very skilled at their craft. They were also very personable and friendly. If this were solely a bar, it would be a 5* bar. But, but they sell food and lots of people go there to get something to eat. The menu is small and limited to things that probably seemed fancy in ‘93. The kitchen is in a constant state of being backed up.
And then, after you wait 40 minutes for a chicken sandwich, you are handed a some deep fried chicken breast on a cold bun and soggy fries.
The fries were particularly offensive because they were obviously cooked in oil that wasn’t hot enough. So, they were hot to the touch, but soaked in oil and not crispy.
Bottom line - if you want a drink and cool ambience, this is a great place. But, eat elsewhere.
Marcia ML
I wish I could have more ⭐ to rate this place. Absolutely perfect!!!! Our date couldn't be more perfect. Amazing atmosphere, osgasmicly delicious food and perfect drinks. Super friendly and professional staff and the most delicious corn bread I ever had. We'll be back soon for sure.
Rachana Koneru
I went here with my partner for his birthday dinner. The mood was so romantic with all the candles throughout the restaurant. We got a seat by the french door looking out and it was amazing. Although a bit pricey, the food was super delicious. Our only suggestion is the music - it's a bit too loud and interrupts the feel of the restaurant.
C P
I loved Sylvain. The menu has a lot of vegetable based dishes, the backyard is really nice and they make great cocktails.
James McDonold
This place is very cool. The outside patio was just perfect. We had a nice bottle of champagne as it was our anniversary. Food was great. Service was excellent. Perfect. Highly recommended.
Ames Brown
The crispy pork shoulder was delicious for brunch. The atmosphere was relaxed.
吴锐恒(Ruiheng Edbalt Wu)
Fascinating fried chicken. The environment and the atmosphere is pleasant.
Bill Henriques
There is something really special about traditional French Quarter restaurants that are in 250 year old buildings with the original architecture intact. You can choose between patio or inside service. We went for Sunday brunch and it was amazing. The best shrimp and grits ever and they had a cabbage salad that I could not believe was so good. The general manager Ali was our server and she was so kind and cordial. My new favorite restaurant in New Orleans.
Noah Stone
Wonderful experience. This is why you come to New Orleans. Excellent food, fun and friendly service. It's the collection of chefs and restaurants like this that make the quarter special. Thank you.
PS. Cornbread is so good, I ordered some to take home to mom. It's a must.
Natalia Poveda
Love this place!! Incredible service, delicious food, beautiful location
Rene M
MUST EAT HERE! Amazing food and drinks in a quaint atmosphere embedded in the French Quarter.
Lori Sousa
We went here for dinner tonight. My husband had a hamburger with a shrimp appetizer. He said the hamburger was seasoned just perfectly. I had the cornbread. It was terrific, not sweetened, just how I expect cornbread to be. Then I had the beef cheeks for my dinner. They were very tender and tasty. We both had dessert and coffee to end. This is a cozy little place and we had a table looking out at the street. You should make a reservation if you want to eat here. Our waitress was excellent also, unfortunately I didn't catch her name.
Jessica Slade
Sylvain is a good restaurant: lovely ambiance, great location, fantastic service, delicious food. The fries with aioli sauce, the cornbread with cayenne butter, and the fresh market fish encrusted in wasabi were our faves. I just have two complaints. First, their portions are very, very small. We actually went straight to another restaurant to eat again when we left. Secondly, they say they are Southern Cuisine, but I feel the concentration is Asian. Nearly every menu item has Asian influence. As I said though, I like Sylvain, and when the mood hits me just right for Southern Cuisine w/ a heavy Asian influence, I’ll be eating this food again.
Gustavo Villalpando
For us, Sylvain is always a highlight of any New Orleans trip.
Lauren Kallen
Busy little spot with beautiful interiors.
Sat at the bar and the bartenders were lovely and friendly. Had the chicken sandwich which was delicious and the cocktails were really good too. Definitely stop by if you want to stay clear of the tourist traps.
Chris Velgersdyk
The Fried Chicken sandwich was sooooo good!
Phillip Pirrip
Very cozy and intimate bar restaurant.
I ordered a classic Moscow mule for a drink and it was very well made.
For dinner I had the chicken sandwich and fries. The chicken was in the dry side but the flavor was very good.
The fries were very good, and would be an awesome snack by itself if you're just looking for a drink and something to much on.
Steven Kelly
Set in a lovely courtyard. Great atmosphere. Great cocktail and wine selection. The raw, shredded Brussels sprout salad is one of the most delicious salads I've ever had (no seriously, raw Brussels sprouts taste amazing, but I'm sure it was helped by the other accompaniments). Only slightly offbeat thing I would have to say, but not a showstopper, is that it was maybe a little too dark. I like moody ambient lighting but maybe just a tiny tweak brighter would have enabled me to read the menu and see what I was eating.
Rietta S
Very nice flavors, good quality food. A pleasant change from the more typical tourist fare. I had the arugula, pear, and smoked onion salad, and they accommodated my special request and added a grilled chicken breast which was very juicy and flavorful. My husband had the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich which was most but not greasy, and fries were very tasty.
Monica Young
Hidden gem. We sat at the bar because we didn't call ahead. Service was great. We ordered the fish fritters and chicken sandwich and both were excellent. Great fries too. Did not try any of the cocktails bit saw several being made from our seats by the serving area of the bar. All looked great.
Kathryn Hagerty
Good...but not outstanding. Prices are what you'd expect for new American in the quarter (high but not outrageous). Food was almost there, but missing that extra something.
Peach & tomato salad was wonderfully dressed but with a bare sprinkling of arugula and rather bland tomatoes. Pork Milanese was good but didn't blow me away. Great, friendly service.
Mike Murray
Very unique spot tucked off the street front. Great vibe and busy all night.
I got the Chicken Sylvian sandwich and it was average. I also ordered the cornbread and that was a great flavor.
Although the sandwich wasn’t great, the rest of the entrees looked delicious. I’ll certainly give this place another visit
Rebekah Armstrong
The bartender was super knowledgeable and engaging. I ordered two cocktails and the fish crudu and it was a great way to kickoff the evening. All of the entrees looked delicious too! Highly recommend as a charming spot in the French Quarter that doesn't feel touristy.
Nina Swann
What a beautiful romantic place. We enjoyed our 10 year anniversary dinner here and couldn't have picked a better place. The candle lighting is creating a magical atmosphere and so does the choice of music. The hostess was so friendly and our waiter took great care of us. The food was fantastic.
Sylvains came recommended to us by a New Orleans native and I'm so glad we did it. Big bonus they have something for every budget. So take your date and have a magical night.
Andrew Attanasio
We ate here on a Thursday night at a normal hour and were able to get a table with no wait. The server was extremely friendly and was quick to get us water and any drinks we ordered. The food was fantastic and came out quickly
We sat outside in the courtyard which only has four tables and couldn't have been happier back there. It's shaded and cozy. It will definitely be a place I visit again if I find myself in New Orleans again.
Jenna Hokanson
My husband and I had brunch at Sylvain during a weekend trip to New Orleans. My goodness, these were the absolute best grits I’ve EVER had. Do not go here for brunch without ordering them, you’ll thank me later! The atmosphere was very cute; although the entrance was a little challenging to find at first; and the employees were all very nice and cheerful. We will definitely go back here on our next visit.
Travelbug
Fabulous brunch place! Must order the biscuits and gravy!
Larry Bloom
Not fab, but decent food. Our server was not the best, and the bartender was downright unpleasant when we ordered drinks while waiting for our table.
Phil Bergman
Very good food and cocktails - the crispy pork shoulder with collard greens and grits was stupendous!
Doug Shelton
Truly creative cocktails to start, and a creative and varied menu. The pork shoulder in adobo was superb, the fish fresh, crisply seared, and played with a delicious, complementary sauce.
Jeff
Absolutely phenomenal food and cocktails. The cocktail program is fantastic - very unique. Service here is always good and the food is top notch. Every time we go here there are several dishes that we have to order. Inventive and fresh. Highly recommended.
MK
On our recent trip to New Orleans my boyfriend and I had an absolutely wonderful meal on our first night, that we had to return on our last day! The food and drinks are amazing, and the staff are kind, attentive and accommodating. I would recommend Sylvain to anyone, its a great location with wonderful food!
Matt Caltabiano
Great food, good cocktails, excellent atmosphere, friendly service. Not much more you could ask for. Starter highlights: cornbread and grilled shrimp. I had the house made parpadelle bolognese and loved it. Chocolate pot de creme to end the meal was ridiculously decadent. Portion size a plus . . . for normal human beings. Recommend a visit.
Brandon MacNab
We were advised by locals to come here and they were 100% right, the food and drinks here are top notch. You get what you pay for. I ordered the Pork and was extremely satisfied. Drinks were very good. Finished off with some delicious blue cheese and wine. Perfect 10 out of 10!
Rachel Johns
My boyfriend and I dined here a couple of weeks ago for a casual dinner in the courtyard. Service staff were very attentive but not intrusive and the food was on par with our expectations. We plan to come visit again in the future.
Lucas Rifkin
Great cocktails, and one of the best (albeit uppity) chicken sandwiches I have had. Try the monkey hour. Try the other cocktails too - they are creative and worth the visit alone. The food is equal in quality if not originality. Great for a date or a night out with friends.
Tessa K.
My husband and I enjoyed a late dinner at the bar. We really liked the cheese plate. We shared the Bolognese pasta. The house-made noodles were delicious. I wish there was more seafood options on the menu. Overall, I would recommend a meal here.
Amanda Fuller
What a find - kinda don’t want to tell people about it! Best parpadella bolognese outside of Italy I have tasted. Service great staff attentive
JOHN RALLIS
The fried chicken sandwich really needed the sauce (which was very good, but without it, the chicken itself was a bit dry). Burger was solid but the winner was the pork shoulder Benedict. A little pricey (over $100 with tip for 3 at lunch). Great atmosphere.
Brendan Healey
Really solid restaurant experience for the French Quarter. Dishes were executed well and service was attentive. We enjoyed fried oysters (so delicately breaded and fried), shrimp and grits (a classic), duck and more. If this restaurant were elsewhere, not sure it would stand out as much. But it’s not elsewhere. It’s in the French Quarter and it’s a must in the French Quarter. For a moment inside or on the back patio, you forget your in the smelly mess of the Quarter. Seek it out and be grateful.
Goh Chin
Dishes served were delicious. We all were satisfied for the food ordered. Especially the crawfish risotto was so delicious, it was right to the taste. Service great. They let us have the table 30 m's before the reserved time. We all happy with what we had on that day.
Angie Rak
Loved, loved, loved our dinner here - we were very impressed with the pork belly and the gulf fish, but the marinated beets blew us away. The kids were so happy with the pappardelle con ragù and the pots de crème au chocolat. We sat outside in the courtyard and it was magical
Kari Djuve
It was 30 minutes before closing but we were sat and the service was very good. The food was amazing! We went for lunch on Saturday so there was a brunch menu. I had the shrimp and grits and it was amazing! The cocktails were also very refreshing.
Clint Green
Creative craft cocktails as always, but seemed like a few may have been a bit diluted; was wondering if the bartender was overshaking, or if the ice was too small/not cold enough. Lily is a great server- very friendly and knowledgeable
Cara Shelhamer
LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. It was a shame that I couldn’t come here more than once during my stay in New Orleans. Started off with the hurricanes that were made with freshly crushed ice (I had never seen an ice crusher before) and they were delicious. For dinner I paired the chicken sandwich with the Maison Joseph chard and it changed my life. I’ll be dreaming about Sylvain until my next stay in Nola.
contessabordeaux
Enjoyed a nice dinner here recently with my bestie and her parents. Enjoyed the Sylvain Burger and a lovely champagne cocktail. We shared a delicious salad consisting of shaved brussel sprouts and fish fritters. Our server was lovely and we enjoyed our visit. Highly recommend.
Christopher Nugent
I don't usually leave reviews, but this place was amazing. Wonderful atmosphere, food was unbelievable. Try the braised beef cheeks or the hanger steak. Unique cocktails for her and great beer for me. Can't go wrong for a romantic dinner here.
michael ryan
stopped in before dinner on Sunday for cocktails. Early. Well, they were confused and had a hard time getting it together for us.
The interior was excellent. Cool.
Later, after apologies and accomodations, safely by the loud air conditioner outside, we received table service.
The cocktails were lovely. Excellent.
Emily Kessinger
Shaved brussel sprout salad was the best I've ever encountered and one of the freshest things I had in New Orleans. Ambiance is warm and romantic. The service was great. We sat at their beautiful copper bar and watched them make drinks in beakers. Delicious craft cocktails. A fun place that isn't as serious as the surrounding restaurants and is much more down to earth.
Norman Haight
Good food, good service. I had the redfish and it was grilled and seasoned to perfection. Don't miss the cornbread. For a non-alcoholic drink try the sylvain cola. Everything was very nice and the waiter noticed that I had left my credit card and he ran out to find me. Above and beyond. Thank you.
Michael Dono
Awesome ambiance, great food, and amazing service. Had a wonderful dinner that was not your typical tourist NOLA experience in the French Quarter. The pork shoulder was great, had an awesome fish special, and the southern style antipasto was unexpectedly fantastic. Would go back for sure!
Nicholas Rudolph
Every time I go, it's busy but I can always snag two stools at the bar within a few minutes. I go back again and again mostly because of their shaved brussel spouts. Seriously - so good! Give 'em a try!
The cocktails are well thought out and interesting with enough beers in bottle or on tap to have "something for everyone". Definitely a go to spot for a quick bite and drink or a full meal
Collins Sigler
Cornbread was amazing. The chicken sandwich and fries were also great. We'll definitely come back!
Don Watson
In New Oleans looking for a place to eat off the beaten path. Talked to some nice locals and they suggested Sylvain. They say it was a smaller menu but delicious and they were not wrong. I have the Pan fried pork shoulder and it was awesome. It was so good that I decided I had to have the desert. It was a berry something pound cake. I was not as excited. Tasted like it had been in the refrigerator for a day or two.
Tristan Foulds
I really enjoyed it here. They got my order wrong but it was her first day and the staff were incredibly nice about it. The atmosphere here is amazing and I just wish I could stay longer. The whole aesthetic was on point
Emily Smachetti
We love this place. It’s dim, casual, and has great food and service. Not touristy or overly formal. The only place we make it a point to visit on every trip to New Orleans!
steve maestri
This little restaurant is my favorite. The reason for four stars and not five is the last two times I went the food was off. I heard a new chef was hired within the last year or two. I took my wife for brunch a while ago and we both got a pork Benedict dish, I forgot the name, but it was very dry. I went last Friday and brought two friends who haven’t been there before and all three of us got the chick sylvain. All three were over cooked and dry as well. I’ve had both of those dishes numerous times. The chick sylvain way more and every single time is was on point. Juicy yet crispy the big house made pickles. One of my favorite sandwiches I have ever eaten. The service has been on point every time I have ever been. And I love the house made cola with bourbon. This is still my favorite restaurant but I’m getting a little weary that a place I known as the most consistent has been off the past two times. I’m hoping my next visit will end this little streak.
Caitlin Bussey
I would recommend making reservations. We had a long wait. The food is very good, but not what I expected. My pork was a little dry. I must say that the portion sizes were very large. The restaurant is also very dark. I could hardly read the menu. Wait staff was very nice. All in all, a good experience. If I went back I would try a different dish though.

Always have dinner while in New Orleans. The service is exceptional. And the food, well no one does champagne and fries better, especially al fresco under the tree and twinkling lights.
Tim
Hidden, quiet, great atmosphere.
Drinks are fantastic.
Sat at bar. Saw Jim Parsons, NBD.
Entrance is down an unsuspecting alleyway.
Virginia Nicholson
Amazing modern food, incredible oysters. Highly recommend!
Stephen C
Loved the decor. The ambience is accentuated by the lighting throughout and the available courtyard dining. The menu offers local twists to some unique dishes. I recommend the Duck, my GF wasnt enthralled by her crawfish Risotto. Yet we enjoyed the evening. Great service, and the bar served us some excellent cocktails
Joe Anthony Suarez
Very laid back, dim environment. The waitress forgot one of our orders for a burger, but apologized profusely. The chef himself also came out to apologize and gave us an extra order of fries. The waitress also went so far as to make the fries and the burger on the house. Truly top-notch service.
Alex Nic
Came here for cocktails and light eating during brunch on a Saturday. The food was really remarkable. Well balanced flavors, uniquely crafted meals, and the execution was perfect. The vibe inside is great; very low (almost no) lighting so it's all natural light from the windows. Feels like a nice, pretty old house inside. The cocktails were also very well done; nothing overpowered anything else, attentive to detail, simple yet inventive. It's rare in the Quarter to find a place that's not a total tourist spot, but this was a legitimately good spot I could see myself coming back to (albeit on special occasions).
Matt Morse
This place is somewhat hidden, and requires that you walk down a dimly lit alley where it opens up to outdoor seating and the greeter. It is very charming, but the stench of urine when first entering the walk way is overwhelming and so unappetizing we almost didn't continue. If it were my restaurant, that walk way we be hosed off daily. The food is descent. I had the slow cooked pork sandwich which did taste good, but was so greasy I ďebated sending it back. My girlfriend had the chicken fried steak, which was very good. The specialty drinks are also very good with a lot of interesting choices. Finally, we were sitting by the restroom, and every time the urinal flushed in the men's restroom, the water spicket in the outdoor seating area would overflow onto the ground. It's important to note this is clean water but it was wierd, and actually ended up at the feet of other diners. It really is a nice place, but, I would not recommend it to my friends unless some of these matters are addressed.
Rob Wright
Second time here for brunch. Great food in a laid back and unique atmosphere. Only drawback was our waiter did not inform us of the specials, we learned what they were while eating and overhearing the waitress at the table next us.
mikko presents
The best restaurant in the French Quarter. They have such clever and delicious inversions of classic dishes its hard to find a bad experience on the menu. The pappardelle is made on site, as is their amazing condiments. Hip,, comfortable, old time atmosphere. Dawn was awesome!
Mike H
Everything about this place is just average. We were there at night and it is super dark inside and out. The staff appeared to be friendly but the food was just average. The music is one reason not to visit. It is super loud and it is kind of grungy with a disco beat, makes you want to order a couple of razor blades for dessert.
Lee Hopper
I had a great solo dinner here, the food and cocktails were both awesome and at a good price point. Not a touristy feeling place, this is somewhere I would eat if I lived here. I went in planning to do the COOLinary, but the daily special sounded too appealing and I am glad I made the switch.
Jimmy Moran
Its such a vibe. The food is amazing. ❤️
Kendra Giardiniere
We had such a wonderful experience here! The atmosphere buzzes and the decor is chic. The servers are knowledgeable and friendly. The drinks are AMAZING-- you can't go wrong with any of the mixed drinks, but my favorite was the "Petty in Pink." The food was truly remarkable-- we tried a bunch of different menu items but here are my favorites: Eggplant Burrata starter, the Soup duJour was a sweet potato soup that was truly life changinging, and the Beef Cheeks literally melt in your mouth, no knife required, and pappardelle Bolognese was on point!
Lauren Ziegler
Lovely, charming place near the Cathedral. I had to walk past it 3 times before I figured out where it was. Drinks were superb. ADORABLE open hallway in the back.
Jose Barbosa
The fried oysters were delicious and so are the sweet potatoes. You probably should reserve ahead of time and try to score the tables and the way back which are intimate and romantic.
Martin Mulvihill
Cool little courtyard reached down a discreet walkway. Indoor dining available.
Good drinks.
Ashley Alena Carswell
Beef cheeks!!! Great atmosphere. Love the dim lighting and the playlist. You can spend a little or a lot, dress up or stay casual...it's up to you. Just don't be scared away by the fancy, this is actually an unpretentious laid back place. Knowledgeable and kind servers. Great cocktails too.
Maria Wilson
The food was delicious and well crafted. The staff were all very helpful, and sat us quickly even though they were verg busy. There were two of us and we shared three appetizers and left full and satisfied.
Alex Tucker
We're we there on an off night? Started off with my wife getting a pomegranate martini that tasted like bottled lemon juice and dish water; shouldn't there be some pomegranate flavor? The mushroom soup was slightly better than canned and the main courses (hanger steak and panko breaded pork shoulder) were mediocre at best. The ingredients were all first rate, the execution was just not well done. Typical flash over substance. Disappointed after reading all the rave reviews.
Brian Rutland
Had reservations (recommended) for brunch the morning after arriving in New Orleans. I had the three course tasting menu, as we caught the tail end of "coolinary" week. The housemade cinnamon roll was delicious, and I had to stop my friends' taking more than I was willing to share. The shrimp remoulade salad was also a big hit. The chicken biscuit I chose for my main was good too. The chicken was well fried, crunchy breading and moist interior. I personally took the cheddar and bacon off the sandwich and put them in my grits, which helped rectify my only real complaint about the meal (I found the grits to be underseasoned). I enjoyed my coffee and bloody Mary, too, not to mention the friendly staff. The restaurant decor and ambiance were noteworthy, a well-done renovation in the Quarter. Kudos all around.
Ted R
I never write reviews, but this place was great. I have to say the conversation noise compliments the atmosphere. Don't mistake this for some loud bar , it's a place where everyone is talking because of good conversation. Frankly, I would've scared if there was no conversation at dinner. Now for the food.... Amazing. I had the pork shoulder with grits. It was to die for. They even whipped up a vegetarian dish for my fiancé on the fly. I highly recommend this place. It's hip, comfy and delish.
John Dwyer
A younger, hip vibe with great drinks and an awesome outdoor area. This is a Hidden Gem in New Orleans. The seafood is incredible . I end the best scallops of my life here and the crowd is fun and friendly. The service is excellent.
Sean Michael Walsh Connolly
The food was tremendous! We started with the beets and cornbread, mouthwatering! Had the bolognese and fish dishes! So delicious! Enjoy!
Allan Behrens
Great atmosphere, cosy, good bar people. Not cheap......
Chris Wright
Awesome spot. Went a couple of times in the past two days. On our second time in, Alex at the host stand recognized us and greeted us with “Moscow Mules and IPAs right?” On point. Sat at the bar and Lorenzo was definitely a mixologist and not a bartender. He told us about several of the local and historic drinks to New Orleans. Got a couple of appetizers and they were great! The pork belly was amazing. I will definitely make this a stop every time we’re in New Orleans.
Sara Scanes
I don't have any words except, "WOW." This was easily one of the best meals we ate in New Orleans. The cuisine was a modern take on brunch and Southern fare, and just cooked perfectly! Make sure you try the homemade hot sauce!
Emily McKeon
Stopped in for a few drinks and wound up having fantastic octopus and cornbread.
Lena Clark
This place is amazing! The staff is so cute and sweet!!! The pasta is made in house and DELICIOUS!!! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Caroline Collesidis
We had the pleasure of being served by Justin who so wonderfully guided us to the right dish. The food was phenomenal, the vibes immaculate and I couldn’t have asked for a better dining experience.
Timur Garipov
Ordered crispy pork belly, shrimp, and fries. Barelly enough for two. Pork was just ok, a lot of fat. $13 for 3 shrimp is too much for a place that looks sketchy inside. This place is overrated IMO.
Charlotte Harris
Great vibe, good food, beautiful botanical garden for outdoors seating. Manager and waitress were SUPER NICE. Highly recommend!
S B
Fantastic atmosphere and deliscious cuisine!! We just visited for the 2nd time & both were on-point - wait staff takes great care of you, music and embiance are fantastic and the beef checks are a 'MUST TRY'! We really like candle-lit places in NOLA, and this one's both convenient/centrally located, as well as top-notch tasty.
James Burkett
Amazing drinks and great food! The champagne and fries is a great way to start out the meal, the brussel sprout salad was very clean and fresh. The rum cake ... get it, seriously it's AMAZING!!
Theo de Haas
We stopped there yesterday for dinner, had the fried oysters, the beef cheeks, cornbread and the chicken sandwich.
Oddly enough the only thing that was subpar was the chicken sandwich, which I assumed would be outstanding in a place like this.
The chicken was dry and overdone.
This was a bit of a let down, the rest, including the service was fine, would try again, but I might order a chicken sandwich elsewhere.
NJA 3
Everything about this place is worthy of 5 stars. Atmosphere, food, servers, bar, and staff. I had the Shitake mushroom bruschetta and a burger, among other appetizers that were enthusiastically shared at my table. It is a little on the dark side, I had to use the table candle to read the menu, but the candles add to the atmosphere and contributes to the charm.
Everyone who works there that we came into contact with were very attentive, friendly and warm, making us feel like valued guests, not customers. I wish I can remember the drink I had or what was in it. I am not a drinker, but I had three of them (I wasn't driving) and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I topped off the night with a root beer float and needed a wheelbarrow to leave this fun, fantastic establishment. It's one of those places where you want to tell everyone you know to try it.
Sylvains was a highlight and memorable evening on what was a great 4 day trip to Nawlins. I highly recommend and would love to know what your thoughts and dining experience was like.
Brittany
I love the Pot de crème, best I've ever had, I also love the cocktails. Unfortunately their entrees leave something to be desired. I expect to love my food at these price points . I would only return for drinks and pot de crème.
Naason Toledo
Hurricane made here is sooooo good ,
Food is tasty
Atmosphere trendy
Peridot Nelson
We asked for a wide variety of drinks (boulevardier, vieux carre, aviation, old fashioned, Sazerac, rum and coke, tom collins) and they delivered every time. Recommend highly.
Adam Bullmer
Great gastro pub food. They have a lot of pork options and they're all winners. I highly recommend their cocktail "No Fun" if you like burbons. If you're like me and don't know what most of the ingredients are, take the leap of faith. Their bartenders know what they're doing!
Robby Herrin
The last time we were in New Orleans, we were let down (they have always been one of our favorite places). This time they out done themselves. Our starters were off the chain good and appropriately sized. The entrees were perfect. I had the hanger steak, which for a cheaper cut of meat was great. They did not over do the preparation on the meat and let it shine on it's on. It came with fries, which at first was a disappointment. That soon went away. The fries were great and a perfect complement. My wife got their special, which was a seared duck breast with duck dirty rice. It was amazingly delicious. It was garnished with pickled bell peppers (mostly red). That complimented the rice perfectly. For dessert I got the panna cotta, my wife got the pot de creme. The panna cotta (spelling) was delicious. The pot de creme was decadent. You literally needed to ask forgiveness between each bite it was so good. If you are in New Orleans, treat yourself to this place. You will be glad you did.
Robyn Maler
We dined at Sylvain tonight. The ambiance, service, and drinks (both cocktails and wine) were wonderful, but the food was subpar. I ordered the LA shrimp and clams and was underwhelmed. Covered in an overly salty gravy and the portion was tiny. I was starving after. Preferred Herbsaint by a long shot.
Deborah Brown
Sylvain is another one of my go-to dinner choices in New Orleans, but for heaven's sake, make a reservation, most likely several days in advance. This is a very popular destination for locals and those in the know. They don't have a particularly large dining room, but there is also a beautiful, romantically lit patio in the back. Our favorite place to dine is at the bar with one of the very talented mixologists who give great drink advice and make friendly conversation throughout the night. This bar also seems to have an historically English feel, probably due to the old and impressively massive wood bar and back bar. Conveniently located in the old quarter, don't miss Sylvain during your next visit.
Mrz Krayola
I haven't tasted the food their yet but I always pass by and Its this guy, I think his name is Mr. William. His such a cool and funny guy. His always working so hard. I often wonder, do he ever take a break. He always offer me to come sit and eat.. William says, Mrs. Krayola our food is fresh and better than any food you ever had. One day, I just might take him up on his offer.
Sterling G Leavitt, Jr
I can not describe how incredible the food, service and style if this place is. You have to make this a priority to visit when you get to the quarter. And for those that will get the reference, our server Alice is who you should ask for. She took great care of us for Thanksgiving! 😁😉 …
Jared Norris
Cool atmosphere, very laid back, relaxing. Service was good, food delicious.
Katie Nebel
Sylvains has the best service, food, and atmosphere in New Orleans. It was so great we went twice. Alex took care of us our first night. She was so chill, calming, and made us truly take in the restaurant. Alex’s food and drink suggestions blew us away. She also treated us with quick service without feeling rushed. We enjoyed our time so much she introduced us Carl, who would take care of us our next night (since she wouldn’t be working). Carl was phenomenal and made us feel so welcomed! He had such a passion for the restaurant and New Orleans. His energy made us feel so excited to be back and thankful to find Sylvains. The vibe was true New Orleans feel without the stuffy or trashy sides of the city - a “you do you” atmosphere where you are treated like family and royalty all at the same time. Something I never thought possible... #onlyinneworleans Thank you for a dining experience of a lifetime.
Cody Smith
Such good food and excellent service. It was cosy and romantic. Lots of interesting options on the menu, and reasonable portion sizes. Definitely my favorite spot during my trip in New Orleans 😍 …
Craig Younkins
They have no sign. You have to go down the alley to an unmarked door. Call ahead, otherwise they may not have seating for you, even if there are literally only 2 tables in use.
I had the scallops. They were good but not amazing.
The service was fair to poor for the cost of the food, with the waitress not being very attentive.
Overall it's over rated in my opinion.
jimmy hoxie
Great drinks, friendly staff, hardy fare, and interesting space. If the pork sandwich with candied greens is on the menu, get it! Filling and delicious with the extra crisp fries and a few shots of bourbon.
Natalie Pramounmat
Good poach eggs. Need reservations though otherwise you only get seats at the bar. The inside is very dark. The outside seats would be nicer. Friendly staffs. Waiting time was long for the food we ordered.
Kerry Housley
The best!! The food is off the charts. The waitstaff.. so friendly and fun to hang out with. The locals we met were friendly and very open to conversation and suggestions. We LOVE this diamond.
Matt Miller
In town for business and found Sylvain on Google. Looked cool so took a chance and made a reservation for 4 online. OMG, best meal I've had in recent memory. Do not miss this place!! Wicked cool atmosphere, great service and the pricing was very reasonable.
Robert Hooper
Our meal here was very good. The beef cheeks and the crispy pork shoulder were both dishes we would get again and again. My only complaint is the noise level. It is right at the limit where you can shout across the table and be heard.
Nikke Skinner
I love the people that works there , they make you feel like you belong here . This is where the family is . And the owner OMG he is the most nicest person you could ever meet. The food makes you come back for more, they plating is nice I'll take all my friends here when they come in town that's how good the prices are.... I promise you your going to love it.
Kate Kosche
Cute courtyard in back. I recommend eating there because the noise level inside is outrageous. Cannot hear to have a conversation inside. Food is pretty good. Service has been mixed on a couple of trips there. What it mostly has to recommend it is that the kitchen is open late. Considering Nola is such a late city, it is frequently hard to find a nice meal after about 9:30, but I often want to eat AFTER going out for music, so Sylvain fills that gap.
Kelleigh Crowley
Absolutely phenomenal cocktail menu (try the Southern Slang, the Airmail, or the Lazarus), and a fabulous brunch. Exquisite take on classic Louisiana favorites. The duck & dirty rice is awesome, the sandwiches are hefty and delicious. The appetizer menu is just heavenly. The green goddess dressing is perfect on fried oysters. The duck confit in satsuma sauce is delicious. And if they are serving the gulf fish crudo, snag it like there's no tomorrow!
My lans, I have just made myself very, very hungry...
Trevor Sumner
I really enjoyed this quaint New Orleans restaurant. We sat in the back garden which I would NOT recommend. While quant, the sound of the HVAC system was deafening. Outside of that I really enjoyed everything.
The drinks were excellent, they had a nice selection of wines and the food was both interesting and really flavorful. The Wagyu beef belly is amazing, cured with 5 spice and braised in soy sauce before being grilled. It was not fatty at all, but bursting with flavor. The beef cheeks are legendary, literally everyone we talked with recommended them and they came through.
Definitely going back (but won't be sitting in the back).
Rak Keller
Great cozy little Bistro with plenty of Ambience and lots of farm-to-table options with a Southern Flair!
Trey Rozelle
Great seasonal American style place, always executed well.
Tiffany C.
So good! We got the Chef's Choice and it was amazing! The staff were great and the food was wonderful! I would definitely recommend this place.
Brandon
Fantastic cocktails in a gorgeous setting. I highly recommend the "No Fun". The bar is small but it's absolutely worth waiting for a seat. Food is excellent though a bit pricey.
Kelly Lyngas
Great NOLA bar experience for travelers looking for the areas historic feel, old and interesting decor with a lovely courtyard. Fantastic cocktails concocted by professional and friendly bar staff. Located in the French Quarter and walking distance from our hotel Omni Royal.
Paula Cerdas
Pretty good place to eat. Slightly pricy and slow service. Bloody Mary is very strong
Rebecca Bucky Willis
The beef burger, buttermilk chicken and fries were delicious! I would definitely go back to this place.
Kathryn Rasp
Atmosphere was fantastic and the food was to die for! Would love to go back here. It was very dark inside so maybe not the best for those with trouble seeing but the staff was very nice. They also had nice outdoor seating.
Brendan Carter
These guys do an amazing Gin Gimlet if you get a chance. We didn't stay for dinner, although that would've been an excellent idea. It looked amazing! Seriously good vibes off the hustle and bustle of the busy French Quarter. Worth it.
Andie Paloutzian
I've been here for dinner, for drinks, and for brunch. All were marvelous. Dinner was remarkable, even for the high bar set just by being a restaurant in New Orleans. The raviolo was the best I've had, and the beef cheeks were butter.
Rahn Broady
Sylvain is one of my most trusted good joints in the quarter. The bar staff is excellent and communicative, and also offer some of the best pours in the city. Sylvain has the best burger in the city...I know that it's a low-pick when giving review feedback, but it's phenomenal.
Andrew Rife
This place had excellent charm, food, and cocktails! As of Oct 2019, they do not have a gluten free menu, but the staff was very knowledgeable about gluten free options. Imho, this was a must stop for visitors!
Scott Burlington
Chef Martha Wiggins is a dynamite follow up to the original Chef (who graduated to open up his own place.) She's put her own spin on the place, and it is shining more than ever. This food, as well as the drinks and most of New Orleans, is meant to be enjoyed, not rushed through. Sit back in the intimate and beautiful space and dig into some classic and crafted cocktails, comforting and finely composed dishes, and chat with the friendly staff. These guys know what they're doing from start to finish.
Michael English
Looked interesting online, decided to try it out. Probably should have made a reservation, but the managed to fit us in. Food, drinks and atmosphere were great. Reminded my wife and I of a southern version of Staple and Fancy (Seattle).
Rachel Attenberger
Stumbled upon this place during a vacation and enjoyed it so much we decided to go back before returning home. Great food, great drinks, great atmosphere and friendly staff
Roy Cullipher
Great atmosphere and patio sitting available
JB Galos
Lackluster service and pedestrian food. I don’t recommend Sylvain
Aaron Dickerson
Food was delicious and service was excellent. Perfectly timed and not overly attentive. Also food is well priced. A little pricey in a classy way, but not over the top. Great date spot.
annie martel
I currently am writing reviews on every platform I can for Sylvain’s. My husband and I recently had brunch with these guys and were soooooo pleased with our meal. The food was amazing, the coffee was perfect, the environment is welcoming and the ambiance- perfect. I wrote a comment for our server because he was awesome’ and today, after a few weeks I received a lovely HAND WRITTEN thank you from him and the restaurant to say thank you for our thank you. That is so rare and even more rare that it was hand written! I will tell everyone I know to head to Sylvain’s anytime the visit nola and we cannot wait to go back!
Larry Decker
Quaint place. We just stopped in for a drink. Bartender was awesome and my brandy milk punch was excellent. A hungover member of our party said the Corpse Reviver gave her some relief.
Annie Wise
The food is very good. They had their own take on liver pate and corn bread. Everything was excellent including the service. And the cocktails!
Ken Hasty
Nice place for a sit-down meal. Limited menu with really good food and drinks.
Eric Firefox fee
Good food, great presentation and atmosphere, friendly staff, and great speciality cocktails. Great if you're looking for outside of traditional southern dishes, portion sizes for the sides were on the small side
lisa weltzheimer
Delicious dinner and cocktails, wonderful staff. Gorgeous patio space. Feels like home away from home in a very touristy city.
brandy pence
Wow! The flavors were unexpected! Looked for some brunch on a Saturday and found Sylvain. Chicharron Scramble, short ribs hash, And the bloody mary...unique and decorated with okra! Would encourage others to dine here...great food and atmosphere.
jean-christophe duplat
Very, very nice welcome and service, very very tasty local food -organic salad and juicy pork- and superb choice of wines and alcohol, trendy place, excellent dark atmosphere, a US restaurant like we would like to see more often. A great pleasure.
Natasha
The pasta was the best. Corn bread delicious. Apple empanadas could use more apples & the side of the ice cream. Worth the visit.
Tim Masdon
We had cocktails and conversation. Quite and soothing atmosphere. Excellent sazerac. Excellent wait staff. Stop by everything I'm in town.
Rin (Allistor)
The food was delicious and the wait staff were all very sweet
nick pats
Great service and cool vibe. We ate here twice while in town for only 4 nights it was so good. Hands down the best burger I’ve had anywhere.
Cory Miller
Stopped in just for cocktails. Bartender not only took great care, but was more than happy to talk to us about all the subtleties of what he was doing. In my opinion best sazerac in at least the French quarter, if not the city. Can't wait to go back.
Matthew R
So minus the long wait which was to be expected on a Saturday night the food was amazing! Well worth the wait. The cocktails are also delicious if you find yourself waiting
TT Teeter
Fancy romantic atmosphere. Steak frites was delicious
DY OH'AR
Delicious! Cute French Quarter vibe too
Andre Bortolini Silveira
Octopus appetizer is perfect. Steak with balck beans and sprouts is unique and perfectly cooked. Chocolate mousse is flavorful and not overly sweet. Amazing meal, 5 stars.
Cherry Barnes
Delish food. Servers are super knowledgeable about dealing with food allergies (celiac). Amazing drinks. Gorgeous atmosphere!
Cooper Smith
The champagne and fries is a great way to start the meal. I highly recommend the shrimp and grits as one of your entrees, one of the best in the city IMO.
Callista Foster
We went during a special event. It is a small place so our group in addition to regular guest caused long waits for our drinks. There were only two bartenders, with that being said, the drinks were great.
Michael Waters
Great place to have a good time.Best bartenders in NOLA.Try the "Mexican firing squad drink" it's really good.Staff is top notch like Lilly here from Sylvain.
Bora Can Şekerel
Exceptional food, exceptional cocktails and a great atmosphere! Has outside seating which is a rare gem in New Orleans during covid times!
Navin Bajrangi
Hostess was rude. But Morgan was a sweetheart and took great care of us. She was so nice and accommodating, unlike the hostess. Get a new hostess, she will cost you customers.
Wanda Diaz
Excellent!!! Steak and eggs plate has a great fusion with kimchi (wish they served more) bulogi, rice and veggies. Great brunch choice. Definitely recommended!
Michael Oilar
This place never disappoints. A lovely mixture of amazing food AND super friendly staff.
Vincent Cellucci
Sylvain had developed into my go to place for moderately priced good food and drinks in the Quarter. The location is prime and the ambiance ideal for date or festival of friends, BUT RESERVATION POLICIES HAVE TURNED THIS OPERATION LUDICROUS. I suggest a serious review of these policies by owners and management. This is the French Quarter: I understand holding reservations for Sean Payton, etc., but turning away paying customers, and holding multiple (in excess of 5) open tables for reservations (that can easily be disregarded and or drunkenly missed) is a poor business practice for the area--a turned off local customer, with many years of service industry experience and three of his friends that could have easily been squeezed in creating more turns and profit this weekend.
Dave Hill
Dark, classic bar with excellent staff and marvelous cocktails. Nice outdoor patio in back to eat in; very good, simple food. Recommended!
Knate Slack
We would've never found this place if we didn't know it was there. We absolutely loved our stay. This is a place that we will recommend to all our friends. Try the appetizers and the wait staff will take care of you!
Libby Lee
The drinks are potent here but good. The food is wonderful, the pork sandwich that I had with broccoli raab was wonderful, the meat is tender and succulent. I would recommend this place, the food is wonderful and the place is very casual.
Wilbur Cox Jr
Food was great. Inspired southern style and our server was very knowledgeable and very well informed about the menu. Really liked this place. Beautiful restaurant
Linda Clark
Although everything we ordered was good, the menu was limited and offerings were unique. Meal was a bit pricey for the anount of food we had: $325 inc. wine.
Pratik Jhaveri
Best meal during our trip to New Orleans! Happened to come across this place after Cafe Amelie recommended we go there (since they were closed).
Things to try - the wagyu beef appetizer (to die for), other steak and seafood entres and the sazerac for a nice cocktail.
Ian Romanick
The kitchen is open until midnight. If you need to get your second wind, wander over, and have the fried chicken sandwich and a cocktail. Highly recommended!
m audette
Delicious, innovative food. Fried eggplant burrata, beet salad, pan fried pork shoulder, and Bolognese. We are foodies. This experience was in our top 3 ever. A must while visiting or living in New Orleans.
Andrew Barstow
Food was pretty good. Service was great, getting waters was somewhat difficult since they were shared with the table. Cocktails looked incredible
John Radziewicz
Carl was an excellent server and the staff made us feel at home. We sat in the back patio where they really installed a swamp cooler and had big umbrellas to block the sun!
Robb Squirrelly
The food was good and the service was friendly. And they had the best music playing in the background that we've heard since arriving in the Big Easy.
Gabriel Montiel
The only reason I gave a 3 star is because of the seating arrangement. It was for two person but they try to fit other couple next to our table. Seems that some restaurants are doing that splitting a space in four instead of two. If you are a couple and don't like other couple VERY close to you explain that to the waiter before seating.
Jaime Urteaga
Terrific service. The braised beef cheeks were delicious. They melted in your mouth. A little small, but it was a good starting point for the evening.

Excellent food, great staff, and cool environment. Added bonus... we got to enjoy 'maggot brain' over the PA during brunch at the bar.

Bartender was very knowledgeable and recommended a great location for our next adventure. Absinthe-bound.

This is one of the best meals I've ever had. Definitely try the pork shoulder and short rib.

Amazing food and good cocktails. Had the wagyu beef belly which was incredible and the shrimp pirlou also delicous. Very good service too. One of the best meals in NOLA!

Such a great meal! Alex provided great service too. I work at an upscale restaurant in Chicago, and she does a better job than I do. I recommend this place highly.

Superb service. Superb food. Had a lovely Sunday lunch here and sat out the back in the garden. Really attentive staff and good value for money- do recommend.

I would recommend this place over the "go-to" recommended eateries. Small place. Dark and cozy at night. Drinks are Stout and delicious. Food was hot and fresh. Best food while I visited.
Will be back at this place.

Amazing all around. Hard to get a table, so we've sat at the bar several times for drinks and food. Great service without the tourist vibe.
Bernardo Huesca
This place is so popular you'll only find a table if you call in advance, otherwise you'll be sitting at the bar, which we had to do. The food and drinks are top quality, no complaints there!

Mehhhh decent. Outrageously over priced for what it is. It's NOT a gastropub. It's a restaurant with some decent food, from a very limited menu.
