Reviews of Maïs Arepas

I've been wanting to eat here for over a year, and it was well worth the wait! We had to sit at the bar because no tables were available. I have to say that I've never been so entertained sitting at a bar. The two handsome bartenders were friendly and helpful, mixing drinks in perfect sync to the Latin music in the background! I absolutely loved the vibe of this place!
We tried the street corn which was super delicious. I would definitely order that on every visit there! The flank steak was seasoned well and very delicious. We also ordered the mini arepa sampler which we enjoyed! We can't wait to return!!!

This restaurant is a hidden gem. The food is exceptional. From the taste to the presentation, it was one of the best things I’ve had in New Orleans. The food is authentic to Colombia. The staff was kind, attentive and went out of their way to let us know it was last call for lunch. The bartender left his area and kindly offered to make us additional beverages before he shut down the bar. Even our walking tour guide host recommended this restaurant because she said loved it. Also there is a Banksy (art) across from the restaurant.

I’m giving 5 stars since we were so amazed by the food that we went back the next day again during our 2 day stay in New Orleans! To start with, none of their food taste was less than amazing…which is pretty rare considering we tried 8 items of their menu. We went in here as they are one dedicated gluten free restaurant with good rating and now I see why. The corn and the cheese fritters in the starter were so good that we wanted more…unfortunately we had ordered more food and were so full to eat anymore. The arepas and the pork ribs in their main course were equally amazing. The best part of them all was their dessert! The Tres leches is out of the world and the pumpkin flan we had was so good that my wife enjoyed it a lot (someone who doesn’t prefer flan)
Definitely going back here to try more items next time I’m in NOLA!

If you have Celiac this is THE place to go in New Orleans. Their whole menu is Gluten Free! Incredible food, awesome drinks, and no worrying about cross contamination from anything. Being able to just relax, not stress about what is safe and what isn't, being able to sample food from all of your parties plates and just be normal! Awesome experience. We will be back!
Brinny Gatewood
Absolutely zero complaints about this place. It was my first time having a non-trader Joe's arepa and it was amazing! I will definitely be back as there are several other things on the menu that I'd like to try. The service was great Miss Gabby was wonderful and so funny and I loved her so much! The space was cute and comfortable laid back, not fancy. Good location with parking abundant! I don't remember using the bathroom so I can't comment on that but everything else was definitely 10 out of 10.

So so good! A roasted pepper appetizer was recommended by the waitress. They were SO good! The sampler mini arepas were delicious, and the margaritas were perfect and not too sweet! I wish we were staying longer to go here again. Definitely worth the trip from the French Quarter!
Yvette Bronner
Such a great gem! Food was delicious and the atmosphere was so nice. The corn on the cob was so good. We ordered the stuffed arepa wth the plantain chips and it was so good and filling! Great experience overall and definitely plan on going back!
Derrick Snell
BEYOND delicious!!! Food and service were amazing. sitting at the bar and watching all the different and freshly pressed drinks they were making was a great time. Highly Recommended for anyone thinking of trying it out.

This will NOT be my last time at this place! And I am glad I don’t live close because they would have ALL my money. Food is prepared fresh as you order it and the flavors of every meal dance in your mouth. I tried the street corn, ceviche, beef & chicken skewers and a shrimp empanada like entree. I enjoyed my pineapple margaritas and I will be going back next month. This really needs to be a monthly thing ALL SUMMER! I can’t wait to go back. There is no parking lot, only street parking that is the only negative.

Such an authentic experience. An absolute must visit if coming in from out of town (especially if you are near the conference center). We got 6 dishes to share between 3 people and it was a perfect amount of food.

The food here is amazing!
My favorite item was the tres leches followed by the Bandeja Paisa. The Bandeja Paisa is the same meal I’d get at another Columbia’s restaurant I previously went to, and didn’t even know haha.
The street corn (Maiz) is good, I ate it off the cob, then just cut it off with my knife, I recommend eating it that way because you get more of the flavors.
My favorite arepa from the sampler was the skirt steak, which is the bottom one in the picture (it was similar to barbacoa).
Great food, could definitely work on the service though. We ordered within 10-15 mins of being sat and were there nearly two hours.

Absolutely delicious all the way around!! Phenomenal place which includes the atmosphere, staff, food and drinks. You can’t go wrong with anything you order. Celiac safe!!

If I could megaphone how great this place was to the unknowing crowd I would hope it would be as life changing of experience as it was for me. We ate, ate and ate some more; rolled myself home and dreamt about the fantastic ooey gooey hoard of cheese over shredded perfectly marinated skirt steak arepas, corn that you write home about, sauces that engage and amaze, along with and an assortment of other menu items that made me feel like Colombian Thanksgiving Heaven! One visit will not be enough!
Brad Nelson
Great little neighborhood spot that is good option for people looking for gluten free. Ate there twice during my 3 night stay. The arepas are amazing and save room for the GF Tres Leches cake, delicious!! Did not try any of the cocktails or wine selections, so can’t comment on them, but they looked good. Staff was prompt and knowledgeable too.

We found this Colombian restaurant in NOLA. The wait time only took us about 10 mins. We love the ambience and the service was really friendly. The food were forgettable. I cant even remember how they taste. But it’s good that NOLA has a Colombian restaurant nearby.
Levi De Leon
First, the interior decor felt authentic and gave that place a good vibe.
Simply put, the food was fresh and delicious. We had a little bit of everything from their menu. Drinks, appetizers, their dinner special, and dessert. All of it was superb!
Definitely call ahead for a dinner reservation.
Jacob Davis
I can’t begin to describe how good the food is here.
Started with the street corn (Maiz De La Rueda), which was so fresh. Couldn’t have been better.
I got the Buenaventura, and if you love Chorizo and Shrimp like I do, you’ll love this. It was seriously on the best things I’ve ever eaten. The Chorizo was the hero of the Arepa, but the shrimp and added sauce in it were excellent to round the flavor out. Plus, the Arepa added the wonderful base of corn flavor.
My partner got the Choriapera and loved it - the chorizo was a little more balanced by the avocado and other flavors in it. Also an excellent dish.
Only comment that isn’t positive is that we got the white sangria and wasn’t super impressed. It wasn’t very fruity, sort of tasted like a mimosa without bubble. Still drank it, so no real complaint.
Absolutely worth the visit if you’re in NOLA!

Best Latin American food in NOLA! Their Areppas are out of the world and I can die for the shrimp ceviche! Highly recommended if you like spicy meat based food !!
Leah K
One of the best restaurants in New Orleans, hands down. Every appetizer is incredible and the arepas are indescribable … a must try for anyone in the area. Service is awesome and so is the sangria! I’ve been twice and it’s just… wow. The cerda was better than the mechada IMO!
Joseph Torcivia
Walked here from the WW2 museum with a few friends. Had a delicious meal and can’t wait to come back! 1st, the street corn, wow, just wow! The right blend of spice and it was perfect. Next, the cocktail special. A guava mixed drink, refreshing, not too sweet = delicious. The arepas were all amazing. I had the pork and it was sublime. Highly recommend. Oh, and it’s across the street from a banksy if that’s your thing?
Mark Bramhill
One of the best meals I’ve had in years. The arepas are gluten-free and have incredible flavor and texture that’s rare without wheat. I had the Carnicera: the steak was tender and rich with flavor, the plantains were perfectly crisped with a gooey inside. I had the Rosada sauce with it which is exactly my taste, but any combination sounds delicious. It’s a perfect amount of food — very filling, but not so much that you can’t finish it. And all of this for less than $20!!! Truly blown away. I will be coming here any time I’m in New Orleans!
Thomas Lewis
Very friendly staff, great decor. The food was great but the highlight for me was the limeade; I’d buy it by the gallon.
Josh Walker
The place has a really cool vibe as soon as you walk in, Latin music is bouncing and the anesthetic matches. You're welcomed by a smile and a friendly greeting as you're led to your table. The food is fantastic, trust me, I'm talking top quality. It may seem slim on the vegan options, but the staff are more than willing to accommodate requests. The plantain cups are amazing, truly, get them guys! Overall a fantastic experience and recommend 10/10.
Jillian Rodriguez
My husband and I both have Celiac and we’re pescatarians. We visited here on our trip to New Orleans and got carry out. 100% gluten free, dedicated restaurant. We loved our meals and it’s totally worth the trip. We got tostones, shrimp arepa, and vegetarian arepa. A must for gluten-free visitors in New Orleans!
Diana Macku
We celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with take out...it was awesome!!! I had the vegetable arepas ... so, so good!
andres rodriguez
The service was excellent. The sangria was good but not amazing. The fish was okay, if it had the sauce from the maiz de la rueda it would be amazing.
The carne asada was thicker rhan it is southwest so it was a bit chewy. The onions were great but the potatoes were not good.
The maiz de la rueda was fantastic. You taste the cheesy spice flavor, the corn pops in your mouth and then you taste a hint of lime.
The buenuelos were very good. Overall it was okay.
Katie Evans
Love this place. The food is delicious and fresh. My favorite menu item is the Ajiaco (which I ate every single day when I was in Colombia many years ago). I highly recommend Mais Arepas if you’re in the area!
Joshua Weingarten
All gluten free menu and it was great. My wife is GF and I loved everything we ordered. Pepe was our server, super knowledgeable about the menu and he had great recommendations for other spots around town. We liked it so much we came back a later in the week and Pepe remembered us!
I recommend calling ahead to reserve a table (calling earlier in the same worked for us).
Martha Manzanares
Delicious food! Be prepared to sit a while before getting food. Very busy staff and kitchen. However, worth the wait! I had the AMAZING elote and the arepa Pollo grilliao.

Deserves more than five stars. This was hands down our best dining experience in NOLA over a 5 night stay. Atmosphere, service, sangria, food (incredible), prices. This is the whole package folks. Was quite a walk from French Quarter through several construction zones; we decided to Uber back & had to walk away from the restaurant a bit to get to a place suitable for pick up. My only recommendation, consider online reservation platform; this lovely location is still taking reservations only by phone. But I’d do it again a hundred times!!! Eat here, you will not be disappointed!
Jenni Atkinson
Delicious food and good service. Almost the entire menu is gluten free, which is a huge plus!

My party and I genuinely enjoyed this restaurant. The food was fresh. If possible, make a reservation ahead of time because space is limited in this restaurant. Our server was very attentive and took the time to explain some dishes. Their sangria was yummy and I was feeling reallll nice. I had the Pescado.. fish. It was well seasoned. The dish came with coconut rice and Tostones. I do love ripe plantains but was unable to swap them out due to limited ingredients in their restaurant. I did ask to sample their sauces with my fish and I’m glad I did. We got maiz, which was similar to street style corn and Ceviche. The restaurant was very heavy on the lime with both appetizers. Other parties at my table enjoyed it, for me… I prefer “just enough” lime… so it loses a couple points just off preference for me. Their steak was well seasoned and chicken. (We all shared our dishes) Give them a try. I’ll return whenever I’m in the Beloved city!

We come to New Orleans at least once per year. We’ve eaten at Maïs Arepas several times, and it never disappoints. This last time was really over the top. Our server was named Sebastian, a native of Columbia, and I wish I had taken a photo, because it’s hard to believe he existed! Not only was he so suave and beautiful (the whole table, including the men, had a crush on him), but he made wonderful food and drink selections that really made our meal a standout experience.

The food is delicious, the drinks are amazing and the staff is friendly and very accommodating. Best Sangria and margaritas in town.

So some places are just really good, this place is incredible! Every single thing we ordered was fantastic! 100% our new favorite places to eat in the city!

Mais Arepas is one of my favorite places in the city! The food and drinks are worth going every time! Prices are great. Staff are always phenomenal! Make sure you make a reservation, otherwise, you will be waiting for a long time. This place is always packed because it is AMAZING!
Ashley M. L. Gibson (ashleymlgibson.com)
Delicious! 😋 Lots of great options! Usually I don't care for street corn too much, but their's is AMAZING! Very popular place so make sure to make a reservation. We tried walking in around 6pm and there was an hour wait, but we were glad we decided to wait!
Siera “micromermaid” Martinez
The food is amazing, the cocktails are amazing. This place is super clean. I only come here for the cleanliness, the cocktails and the food. Bartenders are usually very friendly. The host and servers can come off as dry and not very welcoming at times but I’m won over with the food
Irina Melnik
The food was so delicious-flavorful and vibrant. Had the sampler arepas, the plantain cup appetizer and the steak arepa. Definitely get all their sauces too: so tasty although I wish at least one was spicy. Service was great too, I had a problem with my drink and they fixed it immediately and even gave me a larger/stronger drink as a replacement
Johnny Draco
Great food. Great service. Everything on the menu is delicious. We have been multiple times and have had nothing that wasn't astonishing. From the lamb sliders. To the arepas. You can't go wrong. The limeade is also really good. It's all good.
Ginger Story
Love that it is completely gluten free. I got the steak arepa. Meat was so tough I couldn't chew it. I would go back to try something else. The Sangria was the best I've had-has a hint of spice in it
Nancy Susaneck
Had a great meal and an excellent server, Sébastien. Great adult beverages and authentic food. Even the entrees suggested for single consumption were put in take-home boxes. Enjoyed very much.

We went yesterday (05/08/21) as a Mother’s Day present for me and it was great. We enjoyed everything: white sangria, cerveza Aguila, the sampler, Bandeja Paisa and flan de maracuyá. We did make a reservation and it was honored, seated as we passed the door. Staff was kind and attentive. We live 2:30 hrs away and I would drive here to enjoy this place again. Allow some time to find where to park and if you have a picky child as I do, feed him/her first.
Ian Lever
Such tasty food! We loved everything we got. The veggie arepa was delish, salad was great, and the street corn was especially good too. Would highly recommend. One of the tastier restaurants I’ve been to.
Clandestine Events & Experiences
We’ve dined here on numerous occasions in the past and really enjoyed it. Last night we had a number of irritating experiences that prompt the 3 stars. 1. They made us wait for our 3rd party to arrive - although the restaurant wasn’t full. We asked if we could sit/eat at the bar, but they still directed us to this odd alcove where we just sat there unattended until our 3rd party arrived. 2. When he did arrive, they sat us in a very loud part of the restaurant with a large party that included a child who was banging on the table throughout the meal. Then another child arrived and the 2 traded crying bouts back and forth. We were the only other table in that area. Note to the restaurant: I highly recommend you get some fabric or noise softening foam installed in that new section. 3. The waiter didn’t know what Anejo is - he thought it was a brand.
Overall, the food was good - but the service and experience was very harsh and disappointing.
Pete Schreiber
Everything was so good! We ordered way too much because it all looked so good.
Paul Wisler Jr.
This is an awesome place off the beaten path 1 block off St. Charles Ave. on Clio and Carondelet... service was friendly and food was very flavorful...

MAKE A RESERVATION! My partner and I made the mistake of not making a reservation, we waited for about 30/40 minutes in their waiting room, which a bit small and near the bathrooms. With that being said, the food was fantastic. We had Shrimp Ceviche and Red sangria to start both were good. The Ceviche came out fast and had a cool tango to it and came with thin plantain chips. The sangria had cinnamon/ fireball? in it which was a first for me. The spice made the drink very enjoyable. My partner and I sat at the bar and talked to the bartender who was very nice and funny. For our main course we both of course had arepas. I had the shrimp one and my partner had the brisket one. His was cheesy and had a lot of meat (which was right up his alley), mine had lots of shrimp and red cabbage. As well, my arepa came with a very tasty green sauce on the side. Overall, Mais Arepas was a very cute, very cool restaurant. The service is good and the food is fantastic!! ( probably why the wait is so long)
Jaime Felix
This place is amazing! Absolutely delicious and great service all around.
I have been here twice. This was my first venture into trying Colombian food and I found the tastes very new to me. The ceviche appetizer was tart and just perfext with the plantain chips. The corn is pretty aesthetic and the toppings with lime complement the corn. The sangria is one of the best in the city for sure too. The arepas themselves were excellent. I have tried the chich-arepas and the skirt steak arepas. They are the favorites for sure. Can't wait to go back again!
Brittany Coker
We went 2 different times because the food was so good. They accept reservations but if you get there right at 530 when they open for dinner, then you will get a table pretty quickly. We tried the arepas sampler and the pork and steak was my absolute favorite! Not crazy about the chicken one. The beef empanadas were so flavorful and the shell was crunchy and soft on the inside. Second day I had the pork ribs with the slaw and the yuca fries. This dish was so 🔥. The ribs were tender and delicious and the yuca fries were outstanding. This is a must when traveling to NOLA
Chase Parisi
Yummy food and cocktails! The Maiz de la rueda is a must-try. We got the ribs which were also great (and the fries that come with the ribs were amazing). Can’t go wrong eating here. However, the location is a bit hole-in-the-wall.
Alexandra Kroeger
My husband were visiting from out of town and decided to give restaurant a try. It did not disappoint! In fact we came back a second time, a couple of days later. Pepe was our server the first time and he was great! Super knowledgeable and friendly and even gave us some awesome sight seeing recommendations. It’s refreshing to have such genuine and positive servers in a tourist town - it’s not always the case but Pepe is part of why we came back the second time. And the food was nothing short of delicious! For appetizers, we got the empanadas, buenelos, fish ceviche and street corn and all were very tasty. And for the mains, we got arepas of course. The chorizo one is so good, I ordered it the next time too. Lastly we had tres leches which was so nice because I’m GF and can’t usually have it so it was a nice change from the usual GF options. Pro tip: make a reservation!

Absolutely fantastic. I had four lunches in New Orleans and chose to go back here at the end of my trio--it's that good.
For vegetarians, I recommend the mais de reuda (street corn) its very red, but not very spicy and incredibly delicious. The veggie arepa is also highly recommended. All the salsas were good, but my favorite was the spicy one (and it wasn't overly spicy; I'm a Minnesotan and I was fine).
Fantastic food, fun atmosphere, great service. Go! You'll be happy you did!
Thong Doan
Food is good on some items. Service is ok. Don't get skirt steak. It was not good at all. Beware that they will charge 20% tips on party of 5 or more even the service is not up to that standard.
Ana Escobar
We came to the city to watch the lion King 👑 🦁 last week. I ordered the Bandeja Paisa which was a first for me; I'll highly recommend it .. It was Delicious 😋🤤. My husband is not a drinker and end up having 2 mojitos 😆..Pepe was amazingly great and will definitely be back and request him. He was very attentive and fun.
Phillip Hunter
Out of this world! Everything we had was delicious and fresh. The flavors and textures paired perfectly together. We got the empanada, shrimp arepas and chorizo arepas. Each one was outstanding. I have celiac and I have never had food like this before. I can not say enough good things about Mais Arepas!
E S
This was actually really good. Very flavorful cooked perfectly. The drinks were excellent. And the sangria was good. Hard to find in NOLA. Service was attentive and the ambiance was enjoyable.. Definitely will return..👍👍 …
Penelope j
THEEEE BEST FOOD EXPERIENCE EVER!! Service, Food, drinks, atmosphere no complaints at all!! But reservations is highly recommended.
D J
Delicious food and great vibes. However, the service wasn’t the best. Took 20 minutes for the waiter to take our order and another 30 for us to get our food. We ordered the bunelos and arepas. Amazing !!! The food is to die for!!!
Logan Fouss
My group of 6 walked in within an hour of closing and they graciously hosted us until after hours. Our server was Grade A and a gentleman. Great service, tasty food and a worthwhile experience.
Casey Montague
Everything was so delicious! We had a table of 6 and sampled pretty much everything on the menu. Fantastic food and service!
Kumar Aniket
100 percent gluten free Columbian restaurant in New Orleans. They cook everything fresh from scratch in the restaurant, so food takes some time to come. But, the wait is worth it. The food is to die for and then come back to life and to many small deaths again through the meal. The service was faultless and when we went back, the waitress remembered exactly how I liked my drink. We love this place and would there every week if we lived in NOLA. Can't wait to go back again.
Clara Mount
Absolutely delicious! Must stop by and visit if I’m the New Orleans area!
allen bell
Great food and great service! Super fire! Amazing food! I was nervous when I first looked at the menu because I was a little out of my element and I didn't recognize much. But Just one look around the restaurant and you can pretty much order by saying "I want what they have!" The food looks amazing and the taste lives up to the hype! Fire! The dessert was on point too. If you are going to eat here with a large group your math has to be on point too! Because they only send out one check and you have to split it yourself, then give the waiter instructions on how much to put on each card! The process took us for ever! We were their 15 minutes after the place closed! But the food was so good it was worth it! For the most part!

Decided to pop in for lunch and was pleasantly surprised by this hidden gem. I did not have a cocktail but the ones I saw going out looked fabulous and fresh as could be. The dood was really good, had not seen any other items similar around town as far as arepas are concerned. The bread does crumble easily on the sandwiches so I would advise to eat with a fork and knife to keep things better contained. I had a non alcoholic sugar Cain homemade soda that the bartender recommended and it was absolutely refreshing. I definitely plan on going back to try more options they had as everything looked good on their petite menu, the server said they are revamping and expanding it for dinner service in the near future. Loved the quaint ambience inside, very nice hidden gem.

Had my first Columbian food and oh my gosh it was the best thing I've ever had. The atmosphere is pleasant and the food is super delicious!
For appetizers we ordered:
Picada- I definitely recommend getting this appetizer. It has a variety of unique sausages and oh my god...the pork belly is so crunchy and so, so good!
Yuca Frita- The yuca tastes like yam but with a unique flavor too. This dish is paired with some sausages. I suggest giving this a try!
Pandeja Paisa - Has fried egg, avocado, mini arepas and more...another flavorful plate with a little bit of everything from the fried egg, mini arepas, and the columbian sausages. I would say that some things on this dish was similar to the the Picada so I wouldn't recommend going for this if you're already ordering the Picada and an Arepa (main dish)
For main dish:
The Carnicera Arepa...it comes with grilled steak, avocado and plantains. It was super filling and flavorful! Because of all the appetizers we ordered I was very full by the time I got to this!
Overall my group and I had a wonderful experience here, food is spectacular and the staff was very attentive and friendly. Definitely stop by if you're in town!
Nikki Smith
Food tastes good. Menu is in Spanish. Drinks are nice and strong. Great service. Seated right away so no wait.
Mark Kruck
We have eaten here twice and absolutely loved the food and service both times. It is on our list of places to go every time we are in New Orleans.
Alicia M.
I’d rate the Arepas a 4 and the initial service a 2. We arrived around 7:25 on a Saturday night and was quoted a wait time of 25 minutes. Well...that turned to well over an hour because guests were allowed to stay seated at a table after they had eaten and paid. If a table is done eating and has paid, it’s okay to politely ask them to move. I’ve seen it done at other restaurants many times before. Trust me, if I wasn’t intrigued with the possibility of eating some great food, I would have left. Fast forward to us finally getting a table, I was so hungry that I ordered the empanadas to start. I wasn’t impressed and they could have used more filling. My Mint Mojito was okay but I’m starting to gather that I may not be a Mojito person. Or maybe there are better ones out there? For my entree, I had the Cerda which is an Arepas filled with pulled pork, cotija cheese, pickled onions and plantains. It almost made the wait worth it. I also want to mention that our server was fantastic. This is a small restaurant and they do have a fairly large waiting area with some seating. You should be able to find ample street parking within the immediate area. I’d probably come again (but only early and on a weekday).
Shadia Jaramillo
OMG! This place is amazing. My family is originally from Colombia and I have been craving colombian food since moving to the U.S. This place didn't dissapoint. We ordered almost everything in their menu haha. It was my boyfriend's first time tasting colombian food and ceviche and he loveddd both. You have to get the ceviche, empanadas and ajiaco! We loved it so much that we were going to go again the next day for a second round but they were sadly closed!
Denise Wasserman
Loved the areas. Generous portions and it was absolutely delicious. Will go again next time in New Orleans
Eleisa Floyd
Loved it here! I had the arepas sampler and empanadas and it was delicious! I eyeballed the other dishes passing by and they all looked amazing. Will definitely have to go back and try more. Their drinks were also good. Highly recommend their colada and watermelon margarita. Place was a little small so you may have to wait because it is packed! But it's so worth it!
Alex Rivera
The place is not on the best area but it's not bad either. Excellent! Great food great service, staff is very friendly. Everything we tried was good. Highly recommend. My favorite place during my trip to NOLA.
Anthony Gamble
Carne asada was amazing. Will definitely come back.

Super busy restaurant on a Friday night at St Patrick’s weekend. Hard to get a table wo reservation. One group waited 50 min to get a table at 8pm the night. We were lucky to have space on the bar. The waitress was very nice and I really liked her recommendations. The food is very special and I would recommend people who want to try different tasty food come here and try. The price is reasonable too. The size is not big though. So you may need to order an appetizer I would say.
Liz Kliewer
This place was incredible! The decor was stunning, the service amazing and the flavors were fantastic! Everything was made fresh, but it was all worth the wait and it waitress was very helpful in deciding what to order. If you're in the area, definitely check this place out! Authentic flavors and a great vibe.

The food was very tasty and beautifully presented. The staff was great! The menu caters more towards steak & pork eaters. I don't eat red meats but I was able to find a tasty meal there as well.
Rebecca Londono
I like to try Bandeja Paisa in every state I visit. Mais Arepa's Bandeja Paisa was good but not exactly what you would expect in regards to authenticity of flavors of beans or chorizo or portion size of rice and steak. The steak was also undercooked or served rare and difficult to cut. We also ordered Yuca Frita. My friend who has never tried it before loved it. I who am a Yuca Frita fanatic found it a bit disappointing do to the unexpected seasonings and lack of salsa rosada. They did provide salsa rosada upon request without notifying of an additional fee. The empanadas were very doughy and the filling wasn't very prominent. The server although friendly had no idea what patacones were and pronounced tamal wrong. The caipirinhas were good. The place was very clean. The decor is nice but it is very dark. Great spot for a date if authentic colombian food is not your main goal and you make reservations.
Bess Mays
We dropped in without a reservation on a busy Thursday night - the start of our NOLA weekend. We were immediately seated at the bar and ordered a Caipirinha and my husband got Cusquena beer, a light lager from Peru. the Caipirinha was AMAZING! We started with Ceviche De Cameron (served with plantain chips) and Maiz de la Reuda, both of which were amazing, and followed with the Bandeja Paisa platter, which was plenty for the two of us. Everything was cooked perfectly, and the flavors were amazing!

I can't get over this place, AMAZING ! Yuuuum Every single thing was DELICIOUS! and the service was great too. It was worth every penny
Matt Harris
Que rico! Authentic Colombian food with a slight creole twist. The name of the restaurant is confusing because Païs is Portuguese, but I’ll let it slide.
Carin Jones
Everything was AMAZING. We had the ceviche, maíz de la rueda and a few kinds of arepas. Best thing was the maíz, out of this world. Great service, great drinks. So happy we came here, it was the talk of the trip!
Steve Roy
Absolutely delicious areolas, fresh and savory. Friendly staff, good prices, tasty drinks like agua frescas and sangria. We loved this place!
Dalton Loconto
We had a wonderful experience tonight at Maïs Arepas! Starting off, we tried the cheese fritters, corn and empanadas. Everything was wonderful and easily shareable for our group of 4. For our entree, my girlfriend and I shared the Bandeja Paisa. It was incredible. We also tried the tres leches and flan, both were out of this world. Moreover, the service was impeccable. Our server Will was great and very attentive. Will certainly be back next time we’re in town!
Minhal Faiz
Writing this review while in here. That’s how delicious the food and drinks were. The Capinrinha was recommended by the staff and it was an amazing choice. The chicken arepa was out of this world. I was actually surprised how delicious it was. Only came to visit, but if I lived here, I’d be here every weekend.
Deacon Lawrence C. Houston
My wife follows on Instagram and wanted to try them out. A great decision. We both enjoyed our arepas. We also had the red Sangria and it was delicious. We will definitely return! Pardon my half eaten Arepas.
Amanda Williams McNair
The service and food is always amazing here. Would definitely recommend the sangria and the shrimp arepas 😍😍 …
P. T.
The food, drinks and staff are outstanding. The food is tasty and the drinks are made from fresh fruit. Loved it. If you have not been, go!
Liam Masterson
Place was really good! Food was really tasty and well seasoned. The server was really nice and the atmosphere was really captivating. Food took a little while to come out, but I won't hold it against them as it was really busy for a Tuesday night. Would go again!
Krista Miller
Fantastic Latin food with tons of flavor. No mater what your group's diet preferences are, they are sure to find something of delicious here. We had the chicken, steak, and pork arepas, and don't forget the sauces, just get all four of them. Great cocktails and convenient to the streetcar. One of the best meals we had in New Orleans.
Zachery McGavitt
This was my first Colombian restaurant and I thought the food was absolutely amazing! The roasted corn was exceptional! Extra points for the artistic-presentation of the dishes. The drinks did take until after the appetizers to make it to the table so that’s the only reason for the 4/5.
Reina Carroll
I had the Colombian mule, and that was very delicious and strong. It was an excellent choice for someone who likes the taste of ginger. Also had the sampler. I would highly recommend that if you want to get the perfect amount of food for someone who is about 140lbs

Great atmosphere and the staff worked diligently. We ordered extra food to go. Everything was delicious!
Andrew Burton
Food was amazing, atmosphere was fantastic, and our server (Pepe) was friendly, helpful, and attentive.
Vera Medici
I'm rating it a 4 because the food was so good. I had the corn (amazing) and plantain arepa with killer salsa, as well as a fresh limeade. I would have rated this restaurant a 5, but my experience there devolved greatly as the evening continued.
I arrived before the dinner rush. After I had started my meal I was asked by the hostess to move down a seat to accommodate another group as it was getting pretty busy. At first I didn't mind, but it basically put me behind the point of sale machine at the bar and the bartender couldn't see me anymore and thus forgot about me. For 30 minutes after I finished eating it was impossible to get her attention to get my check, until I finally stood up in my seat, called out and waved. She was apologetic, but again forgot to give me the check for another 10 minutes until I got up and waved again. My level of frustration came close to ruining an otherwise very good meal.
Donald Thurman
Came in Sunday night. Had to call to make a reservation. Definitely worth it! All the food brought out was so delicious. The staff is also very friendly and the service was excellent.
Jessica Scott
Everything was delicious! The watermelon margarita was amazing! Very refreshing. The Carne Asada and street corn was Devine! I went back the next day 😋
De Fe
The food is great. The Ceviche de Camaron, Cerda and Brochetas was the bomb.
Luke Wiley
These handmade corn wraps are genuinely unique and clearly authentic. The meat choices and sauces leave you with endless combinations! Fantastic braised beef and pulled pork. Wow!
Robert Guadiana
The food was amazing. The wait time for the food was longer than expected but worth the wait. Definitely recommend!
Melody W
Food was tasty, especially the flan. Menu item pricing needs to be updated on paper menu as well as on-line. Carry out has a required additional 10% gratuity charge.
Jorge Aquino
Pricey but food is spectacular. I'm Colombian and I've been to Colombia and this food is better than a lot of food I have had there (well a good plate in Colombia can be as cheap as a few dollars so that's not entirely a fair comparison).
Brett (King Agular)
I got the fish ceviche and the chorizo arepas(can't rember the actual name) and got the spicy salsa. All tge food tasted good although I'm not the biggest fan of the plantain chips but thats a personal feeling and think everyone should try it for themselves. The arepas was delicous and the salsa was amazing.
Mark Calamari
Let's be honest, I thought an arepa was more pancake less biscuit. I was wrong. This was a delightful way too stuffed loosen my belt savory why is that sweet plantain hiding in there buiscuity experience. The passion fruit was perfect. Please call for a reservation or you'll be disappointed when there is no room.
alicia mickey
Best meal I've had in a long time! Great service at the bar! Pretty much everything is gluten free too!
Nic Heersema
Food was amazing! Portions size was perfect.
george chavarria
Food was great. I had morcilla, chorizo, pork belly and potato appetizer. It was delicious, and entree sized. All we're well roasted and tasty. Margarita was really good. Menu, especially vegan options change often from what you find online.
Nichole Doyle
The pineapple margarita is to die for! Because restaurants are not serving their drinks with straws, this margarita is especially easy to drink without one. With a straw, the freshly puréed pineapple clogs the straw. The food was ok. My favorite was the street corn and guacamole. I would have been happy with just those two items. We waited 45min after our meal to get our check and the restaurant had only a few tables. I’d probably only return for the margs at the bar.
Dijo Mathews
The arepas here are mind blowing. The restaurant is a must visit. The food is very flavorful and well balanced in taste. Kudos to the chef. The ambiance is excellent. Reservations are recommended because its always packed.
Pearl Leung
Small space but delicious food! Get there early or make reservations, since it fills up quickly. The arepas are absolutely wonderful, and presentation is stunning. Friendly staff and will definitely be coming again.
They usually have a few off the menu specials and they're always fantastic.
Eric Sheu
MAKE A RESERVATION. Wow. Amazing food. Got the veggie arepas and it was delicious. The food came out hot, the arepas was still crispy from the grill and the veggies were seasoned well. Flavors were so simple, but worked together extremely well. Does come with cheese. Their chimichurri sauce was a great addition and provided some tang. Portions were a tad bit on the smaller side, but well worth the visit. Reservations recommended. We waited about and hour for a spot at the bar.
Carla Castellanos
I think it’s the best restaurant in New Orleans , the fried fish omg it’s delicious, I live in Houston Tx, I’m Venezuelan , I tried the Colombian food , but I think they are more like Venezuelan food , it’s delicious, the arepas are totally Venezuelan , I will go again
Nga Tran
Very tasty and flavorful foods. Friendly staff. Just have to arrive earlier for parking since it is street parking.
Carla Alegros
O. M. G. A must if you're in NOLA! Such a gem. Staff was amazing, made a drink they typically don't because we asked for it. The food was TO. DIE. FOR. we loved every thing we ate down from the appetizers to the desserts!
JD
Absolutely amazing food there. Not only was it very good, it was so different from normal food you can get anywhere else which just took it to the next level. Very reasonable priced as well at $12 for an arepas with plantain chips and sauce. Lower than most burger places which this was a fair superior alternative to. Very exciting and different food, definitely go here if you are in the city, you won't regret it.
Leslie Palacios
It was pretty good. Takes a while to get seated and to get your food after that, so don’t come in a rush. I really liked their red sangria. The place is quaint and with really great decor. Nice people in staff too. The bandeja paisa was mostly good. Will probably not get it again, but I’ll def be back to try other things.
Rachel C
Fantastically balanced unique dishes, the ceviche is outstanding with a delicious punchy dressing rounded off with thinly cut, crunchy plantain chips.
Aborrajados were a new experience for me. The melty, salty mozzarella over the crunchy sweet plantain fritters were delicious, although i thought they could have been smaller.
The arepas are well thought out-every different filling held its own and made the overall flavour better. We had the grilled skirt steak and the deep fried pork belly one.
Only one less positive note is that the empanada dough could have been thinner and a little more seasoned.
Service was lovely and attentive
daisy
Absolutely terrific colombian food. We didn’t really know what to expect because it’s in an unassuming part of the city, but we were blown away. The buñuelos are to die for and the arepas are unlike anything I’ve ever tasted. I got the skirt steak arepa and it did not disappoint. Any of the appetizers will do you well so definitely get one. Just make sure to make a reservation because it fills up very quickly.
Philene Harston
Great authentic food and not overly expensive. We got in without a reservation but it would be a good idea to have them.
Steve McCall
Recommended by friends who didn't get to go with us - their loss! We snagged a last minute reservation for a table at the 6 pm opening time, and joined a small crowd on the sidewalk a few minutes before the doors opened. Maïs is a smallish, attractive space and was completely full within minutes.
Despite being slammed by the opening rush, servers were friendly and helpful. We ordered cocktails and two appetizer portions of empanadas and grilled corn. Cocktails were house specials, on point: a rosemary-scented riff on a pisco sour, and a rum/Cynar concoction. Both were very good, and the appetizers were even better, especially the corn.
For our main course we each ordered an arepa, which is a thick sort of tortilla, split and filled with an amazing amount and variety of stuff, including relatively unfamiliar ingredients that typify Colombian cuisine, such as plantain and sweet potato. Arepas were delicious and *very* filling - we had no room left for dessert.
Maïs is a very popular spot, and a refreshing change from typical New Orleans cuisine. But seating is limited, so make reservations early.
Mary Teeler
One of my all time favorites- delicious colombian arepas and mojitos/margaritas. Cozy ambiance and alwayssss packed! Call ahead!
iTs Bo5s
The area around is a little sketchy but the place itself is well kept inside and outside. The food and the presentation was very good. The arepas were definitely made with corn and not flour. Now, I did get served the whole entree on a dessert sized plate which made it kinda difficult to eat without spilling things over. And the way the Arepa with fillings were constructed didn't make it any easier (but it did look pretty) if that means anything to anyone. Overall I'd recommend to at least try it out if you want to steer away from American food.
Eribel Rosario
It's almost always packed and you have to wait for a table in the waiting area , which is nice. The food is always amazing and never disappoint. I think the most important thing here are the staff. They were very nice and friendly. Open to suggestions. Very informative it's pricey but when the food comes out the portion and flavor make you forget it all. Will be returning again for sure
Fellowdc2007
The Best bandeja Paisa I've ever had
Walter Ghrist
Fantastic food and atmosphere. We were very surprised and thoroughly enjoyed our dinner her
D
Went here on a first date type of thing. They were moderately full but we were still seated at the bar. They're very theatrical and take good care of you. Food takes a long while to get out of the kitchen but it can be overlooked because the food is incredible. Even the vegetable option was delicious and perfectly seasoned. Some of the meats were a bit dry.
The kitchen looked very clean and their hood was spotless, and the rest of the establishment was very clean as well. No major complaints and I could easily see myself visiting again.
Mac P.
I just can say this place it's such a good place to taste Colombian food. The service is perfect!!! (5 stars)
Juan Vargas
I have been here before. Good food. Staff overwhelmed. Nowhere to wait for your reserved table. I tried to sit on the bar while i waited to clear a path for waiters, and was yelled at by two employees in front of the whole place.Had to leave because there was no place to wait. Even standing. Hostess unable to say when reserved table was going to be ready. Awkward to say the least.
Hilda Johnson
We stopped by for dinner recently & were pleasantly greeted. The white sangria was great. Nice menue, good food & interesting decor. We look forward to returning there on our next visit to New Orleans.
Leonna Chapman
Love this place. This food is the best I've had in such a long time. The flavours are interesting and all go together very well. I got the Carnicera. I wish I had one of these in Florida it was truly amazing!
Dan McNeilly
This place is absolutely amazing, my wife is from Medellin and she loved everything, I'm from New Jersey and I absolutely loved everything as well. arepas all day everyday. AMAZING.
Thomas Houseman
Excellent food. Friendly service. So great to eat really good food in NOLA that isn't creole.
Isabella Hidalgo
I have wanted to come here for a while but finally got the chance to this past weekend and I am impressed. I got the sampler appetizer and loved each arepa that came on the plate. I also tried their Tres Leche which was some of the best I've ever tried. I went with a friend, and we sat at the bar because otherwise there was going to be a wait, but the bar was just perfect. The bartenders and staff were very lovely and kind and also provided good service. After a couple minutes there, they dimmed the light as it was getting late, and combined with the Latino music in the background, the vibes were amazing. I am definitely going to be back and would recommend this place to anyone looking for a good bit to eat.
tulio escobar
The best bandeja Paisa I have ever tried. No even in Colombia, Tierra querida. I live in Fort Lauderdale FL , and there are a lot of Colombian restaurants. But this one is the Best example of Colombian gourmet creole food.
Sofie Vargas
food is wonderful. good colombian selection and havent had a problem with it. however, the place is way too packed. we had a reservation and we didnt get seating after 10-20 minutes and they kept accepting walk-ins. i am okay with a wait, but there is no space to wait. the waiting room is packed and the entrance is also packed with walk-ins. at a certain point they shouldve stopped accepting walk-ins and get the people that have been waiting situated. reservations are pointless and extremely uncomfortable to stand around in.
great for food but bad for seating!
Grace Muller
This is my favorite restaurant in New Orleans. The food was fabulous! Some of the best plantains I’ve ever had. At first glance, everything is gluten-free! I would highly recommend this restaurant.
monica chamorro aristizabal
Food was very good! definitely will call for reservation next time.
Mahmoud Moustafa
10/10 on service, ambiance, food and dessert!
Jason O'Connor
Amazing food and service. Get the ceviche, carne, and tres leches!
Abril Gonzalez
Great service, beautiful place and super tasty food! Just don’t go feeling hungry cuz you’ll have to wait a lot to get a table and, after ordering, to get your food
Stacey Delight
Mais Arepas is where we go for a quick getaway!! Everything about this Colombian restaurant made me feel like the idea of work was utter nonsense. The arepas are hands down the best in the city, the art is absolutely beautiful, the music moves you and the damn cocktails!!! Candice is a cocktail God and after giving a description of anything, she'll have you ordering the entire menu! I even inquired about purchasing art off of the wall due to departure issues. I'm not sure how they get people to leave with the exceptional service. Check them out! #quevivacolombia 🇨🇴
Rob L.
We had the Sampler appetizer and it was great, I had the Shrimp and my fwie had the steak arepas. Both very good, great taste. Took off two star bc in the back room the echo and volume of the sound was almost numbing. Got a headache half way in. Some sound panels would be a huge improvement.
Stephen Brandau
My girlfriend and I split the changua soup special, arepa sampler, and carnicera. All were fantastic but I think the steak in the carnicera made it our favorite. Our server, Candice, was very helpful and accommodating. As others have noted it's very busy so call ahead. Definitely a great out of the ordinary New Orleans experience!
Ana Butler
Made a reservation for lunch, probably need to make one for dinner. The food was what I was hoping for: delicious!! Hit my Latin food hankering. So much fried bananas. The cocktails were all made from fresh fruit and very dangerous. I had the cerdita arepa. Recommend getting all the sauces instead of choosing. It was fun to mix and match. Lovely service.
Rowena Conway
By far the best food from New Orleans. Everything was amazing. Wish there was one up North because this would be my spot. Being gluten free as well puts the cherry on the cake.
Eddy Gutierrez
This place is consistently excellent. Once you get seated, the staff will give you their full attention. I have not had a bad meal at this place, and make sure you get an order of the corn appetizer.
Michael Young
Outstanding Colombian food, made fresh twice every day. Try the Cerdo Arepa and Tres Leches!
Jacob Schoen
This might just be the best food in the entire city of New Orleans. From the grilled corn and empanadas to the drinks and arepas I’m not kidding when I say I come here weekly to get my fix. Friendly staff and great prices, too. Can’t recommend highly enough.
Bon Villamil
Walked in without a reservation and sat at the bar. There was plenty of seating in the restaurant. You will most likely need a reservation during a busy hour. The menu has great options, but not really anything vegetarian unless you stick with a starter. There is one veggie arepa. The arepas are pretty big and filling. The service was mediocre at best. Always needing to wave down a bartender when they were just texting on their phone. Bartender was sociable with select patrons and ignored others.
William Daigle
Delicious food. It was the first time I've ever tried Columbian cuisine and it was excellent here. Food was wonderful and service was great.
Robert S
Place had a very authentic feeling from both the decor to the staff. Drinks were excellent and food was very good quality. Went with 2 friends and we had a bunch of sharable items. While seeing other food come to surrounding tables, I will need to go back to try more. Quality and quantity matched a fair price.
Julia Gonzalez
My all time favorite restaurant. Of the 5 or 6 times that I've been, I have tried something different every time. I've also been sure to share with my companions and have found that regardless of what you order, you will not be disappointed. Also, most everything is naturally gluten free, if you're into that sort of thing.
Coglioztro
Place is delicious! Uno de nuestro favorito en todo la cuida. The margaritas are just ONE of the reasons we keep coming back.
Word of advice; Make reservations. The line is already well formed before the doors open.
Jonathan Fadok
This place is fantastic. Delicious food and great cocktails. Just ask your server to select a few things for the table to share. You won't be disappointed!
Graham Green
Food was fantastic, service excellent.
Best arepas I've had, possibly ever. Empanadas were also very good.
Cherry Barnes
Absolutely delicious and EVERYTHING here is gluten free!
Cecilia Pell Richards
Super tasty food. Loved it! Service was good too. You must make a reservation because it gets packed and the place is not that big.
Raynelle Thomas
I have been here twice and i crave it whenever i leave. I love this place!
Brandon Hollingsworth
Absolutely great food and service.
Carmen Cofano
The arepas are incredibly tasty and large enough that they could be two meals for a smaller person. The shrimp and chorizo arepa is the best thing on the menu. The grilled corn is also amazing.
I love that everything is gluten free (gf, gluten-free) as someone with celiac disease. It feels great to eat safely in NOLA. Will come back for as long as they are open.
The staff is nice and pleasant to talk to.
R Valencia
Phenomenal food and service. Best Colombian food outside of Colombia. I have been to several Colombian restaurants throughout the U.S., e.g. Miami, Tampa, NYC, DC, and this one is on the top of my list.
Jessica V
This is one of few Columbian spots in town so you gotta take what you can get. Food was okay, service was just okay too. The arepas were all together tasty but the bandeja paisa was disappointing. They gave less than a half-cup or rice for a dish that’s got 3 types of meat. Usually you get a lot of rice when you order BP elsewhere. Worst yet, the menu doesn’t offer a side of rice and the chef doesn’t like to adjust his menu items so they gave me a headache when I asked for more. It was bizarre. I’ve never been told “no the chef doesn’t like to do that” at a restaurant as many times as tonight. It was for the weirdest things too i.e. I needed my egg yolk cooked through ( pregnant) and I needed more rice.
Ricardo Mas Y Rubi
Great flavor, great food, great service. More of a dating place than a dining solo place
Jordan Traylor
One of our favorite spots in New Orleans right now. Cocktail bar is awesome and the Arepas are one of the best sandwiches we’ve had.
CJ Co.
This was one of the most delicious meals and the environment was warm and welcoming
Anita M
Super cute decor and a short wait for a table without reservation on a weekend night. DELICIOUS arepas! We tried the steak and the tuna. Drinks were a little on the sweet side, but lovey. Definitely would go back.
Melissa Famula
Wow.
That's really the most important thing I have to say. WOW.
I'm not knocking the city's bend towards French creole soul food, because I absolutely love NOLA for that reason. But Colombian creole? WOOOOW.
The arepas are crazy good. The buñuelos are crazy good. The trés leches is CRAZY good. THE JUICES ARE CRAZY GOOD.
Maïs Arepas CANNOT make something without it tasting INSANELY GOOD. We left full and happy, and the prices were exceptionally reasonable for the quality of food we received.
It is worth noting that the arepas take time to make, so factor in about 20 min for your arepa. Seriously though, you will find the wait undeniably worth it.
The staff and ambience are so incredibly charming and helpful with recommendations. This is a spot a bit off the beaten path, but you DESERVE to take yourself here.
Joseph Crespo
This place is absolutely amazing.
Olivia Mitchell
Amazing everything. Best margarita in the city. I tried blackberry and pineapple jalapeno; both were incredible.
Harrison Abney
This place was absolutely amazing! We are here back in March when we were visiting New Orleans and it was our favorite place we ate on our trip! Every meal we got was 10/10. And the carne asada was melt in your mouth! Our waiter was fantastic too! Our group had never had Colombian food and he took the time to explain everything and help us decide what we wanted to get! I will recommend this place to all my friends and family who visit the city!
R. Whil
Gluten-free!!! It was so awesome to be able to choose anything on the menu.
Kristin S
If you haven't been here, you're missing out! Amazing food, charming ambience, yummy drinks, and excellent service! Make reservations to avoid lines that are usually out the door. My favorites include the shrimp ceviche and the grilled shrimp arepa. But, honestly, I haven't tried anything here that wasn't incredible.
alimcrain
The pork ribs were so delicious we ordered a second round! Don't skip on their mojitos, either. Amazing from start to finish.
Steve Brimley
Let me start off with WOW! So good. I love this place.
Kathryn Hagerty
Cerda arepa was delicious - spiced pulled pork, plantains, and picked onions, on a steaming hot, freshly grilled cornmeal patty. Pricey for the (smallish) size, but quite good.
chy b
I have to say I didn't know this place existed but now that I do it has to be one of my favorite places to eat Columbian food! Absolutely delicious with attentive staff
Daniel Jr. Rodriguez
Food was empeccable! Devine treated us divinely 👍🏻 was visiting from nyc 🗽
Cesar Contreras
Food and everything good.. but it’s a little bit expensive In the prices! I went on a date and my bill was $75 for two people!
Scott Haynes
DELICIOUS! My family of four (three who are GF) ordered an appetizer and two entrees and shared them all. The kids (9 and 7) loved it almost as much as my wife and I. Everything in the place is gluten free and seasoned to perfection. So much flavor, incredibly fresh. A new fave in New Orleans
Hussaina Wardhawala
Delicious arepas. We had the chicken and pork arepas and were mindblown with the authentic flavours as well as the helpful staff. Our server was very knowledgeable about the food and suggested us some fresh Colombian juices to go with our food too! The restaurant was clean and the food came quite quickly. I would love to go here again.
Rachel Higgins
Maïs Arepas never disappoints! The food is so fresh and flavorful, and the red wine sangria is to die for (take my advice…get the pitcher!) The elote appetizer is very tasty, and my favorite part is fishing out the wine-soaked fruit from the sangria for a tiny “dessert” after a filling meal. Multiple vegetarian/pescatarian options too! I insist on taking friends here every chance I get, and they always rave about it. The only thing is that they often book up fast so make a reservation if you hate waiting. Don’t hesitate to spend a meal here!
Roy Douglas
excellent food, good service, not cheap but worth it
Alejandro Menocal
Great place! Was recommended from friends that come to NOLA just for Maïs Arepas! The arepas are great! The mechada comes packed, with food and flavor!!
T&C Manchac
Great columbian food! A must juat be prepare to wait. But so worth it
Stephen Gatecliff
One of the rare times my wife (celiac) and I went to an establishment because it's completely gluten free but I ended up enjoying the food just add much as her.
Don't be scared off by dishes that have ingredients you're not familiar with. It's delicious!!
Anne Pency Wilson
Run, don't walk! Mais Arepas has been a go-to of mine for years! You can never go wrong with the corn app, the cerda, the arepa sampler, or any other item on the menu.
Reservations are definitely encouraged; i always make one so I do not have to wait. All people must be present and they will need to see your proof of vaccination.
I was there last weekend and can't wait to go back!
Cynthia Lamantia
Great lil authentic columbian eatery. Will def be back!
Gabrielle White
The food and service here is always great. We accidentally made a reservation for a different restaurant with the same name (spelled differently) and the hostess was kind enough to make it work which was amazing since it was my mom’s birthday. My family loves this place.
Meagan
Have only been here once, can't wait to go again! The food was excellent as well as the service. Do not be intimidated by the new words and foods! Once we were seated, our server asked if we were new to the restaurant and offered us as much help and time as we needed with the menu. The servers were very helpful in answering our questions and describing some of the dishes for us. Tasty cocktails, great food, good service, nice atmosphere!
Adam R
Without question the single best meal I had during my week long stay in New Orleans. The Ceviche appetizer was a great start but the Pollo Griliao was the best thing I've had to eat since I was in Greece. At first glance I thought "hm, how do I eat this thing?" so I grabbed it as if it were a burger and to my surprise it was holding itself together with melted cheese. If you get this dish, eat it with your hands and don't F it up with a fork and a knife. The chimichurri sauce I had with it was great as well. Service from the bar was exceptional!
Sabrina Reynolds
We flew in from Detroit and stopped here for a late dinner. Omg. Eat here. Drink here. Be merry here. Super fresh ingredients. Everything is cooked to perfection. Make sure to try the corn 🌽 ❤❤❤❤ …
Carl Thomas
Best caprihina in town. The buenelos are the bomb! I have the combo plate with skirt steak, chorizo, garlic rice topped with egg, ripe and unripe plantains, arepa. Presentation, flavor, hot quality and quantity are all five star.
Ginger Mooers
Best food, I crave this place.
Frank Childers
We didn't have a reservation, however the wife and I were greeted very kindly and seated immediately. The restaurant was clean with a distinctive atmosphere and the staff was attentive without hovering. The food was absolutely incredible with a fantastic presentation. The location is off the beaten path, well worth the the visit. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.
Cambri Helmer
I have no words. The most flavorful, divine food ever. Everything we had was 100/10. TRY IT!!!
Daniela Collazos
The food is not bad, but it not authentic Colombian food. The empanadas were not fully filled plus the filling was barely meat and nothing of papa criolla. The arepa platter it's okay to taste some of flavors of the arepa fillings, and the picada is really good. The ajiaco missed the strong flavor of the Guasca, plus they put two huge pieces of corn inside the bowl of soup just to make look bigger.
Helen Mitchell
Amazing fresh food and cocktails. Lots of time and attention spent on fresh, delicious ingredients. Intimate setting with friendly staff. Would recommend reservations for 4 or more, but for small parties, sitting at the bar is so much fun. You can watch them craft the cocktails and the bartenders are so warm and welcoming. Wonderful, different flavors compared to the traditional New Orleans cuisine. A must try!

Had brunch with friends on a recent Sunday- the best food we had while visiting New Orleans, very fresh and flavorful! Staff were easy going and helpful, though the menu did say they don’t spit checks.

Went to Mais arepas last night with a party of five. Dropped people off at the entrance and went to park. Arrived at the restaurant and found my party standing around the hostess stand. Two parties were seated as they walked in while were standing there in plain sight. Not sure why we were ignored by the hostess because the table we were seated at was empty and set.
Sat down at the table and they used a table designed to seat four for our party of five. I sat at the end which does not have room for your legs. Very uncomfortable and an example of a restaurant putting their profits ahead of the customers comfort. Also, sometimes it seems as though this place is running a boarding school instead of a restaurant in the CUSTOMER SERVICE industry because of all of the "NO EXCEPTIONS" policies.
Our waitress was the worst waitress I have ever been served by in the history of my time in Nola. We ordered a pitcher of sangria for the table. It took at least 15 minutes for the sangria to be served and the restaurant was not busy.
We ordered appetizers along with our entrees. The appetizers were served at the same as our entrees. A major no no for food service. Failure.
We were told when we were seated that they were out of some items. Made sure to ask our waitress if they had the choriarapa arapa which she said they did. My food arrived and they had substituted regular sausage for the chorizo. Not a word from anyone about being out of chorizo. Failure.
We finished our food and the sangria. Our table was a mess. Plates and empty glasses were left on the table by the staff. Our waitress made us feel like we were wasting her time because she pressured us to leave. We usually would have wanted to stay around a little longer to socialize.
I was definitely thinking that our waitress did not deserve a good tip. She was thinking the same thing as the check arrived and she had added a 20% tip for herself. Again, more arrogance and evidence of a general attitude of putting the customer last. Only bad waitresses automatically add tips like this because good servers expect more than 20%.
Overall, 3 stars because the food was good but not quite the same as my previous visit. No one complained about the food but they were not talking about coming back.

Ok guys I am going to try to make this review as positive as posible because I am a Colombian native and it is very difficult to deceive me with Colombian food. In addition, I love to cook colombian food and my kids know how to cook Colombian food so here I go.
The drinks are delicious. I ordered a drink while I was on the waiting area for 45 minutes and the drink never made it to me. Finally, at the table I was able to get the lulo (a Colombian fruit) with vodka drink , it was delicious and the sangria is also delicious. The arepas ! Oh the arepas! Real Colombian Arepas are made with corn flour the arepas at this restaurant are made with masa, the masa you use to make tortillas so that was a big disappointment. I can tell you that the flavor inside the tortillas in arepa form was delicious the one with cabbage inside and shrimp, but they are not arepas at all, they are tortillas made in arepa form 😱😱 if you don’t know you will find them delicious. The yuca frita is the best ever ! I can’t make it like that at home it is crunchy and delicious, we ended with 3 orders of yuca frita. The plantain bowls are very delicious I am sure you will love them is only 3 in the order, if your party has more than 3 people be sure to do two orders. Over all is not a place I will visit for a second time.

Let me start off with something positive lol, the food & drinks are always amazing!!! and worth coming back for however the last 2 times we have gone the service just wasn’t good at all…the waiters are just rude and unprofessional. my husband and i love the food here but we don’t know if we will be returning again..the servers always have an attitude and its just so disappointing. :(

The food was different and very tasty. The service was a bit slower than expected for a smaller establishment - so expect to wait. You need a reservation. The menu could be a but more descriptive. If you have not eaten there before - you should realize that you are basically eating sandwiches. Parking was horrific in a very poorly lit part of town. Good experience over all - just some challenges.

One of the best restaurants in the city for sure. Everything was super fresh, not just the gulf shrimp but even the corn based bread. Almost everything is naturally gluten free too!
J R VanOrder
Amazing place. Dinner is usually crowded. Same menu at lunch and way less people.
Kris B
Great food. Slow service. NOT A LUNCH SPOT. If you have the time to sit around and wait, food is great.
Estevan Serrano
Excellent food! Fusion cuisine of Colombian and Venezuelan food. Great ambiance! Highly reconended

Looking for Colombian food in New Orleans? Do you actually know anything about Colombian food?
I was, and I don't.
But I've been to this restaurant once so I'm pretty much an authority now so you should trust my review and report the others for breaking Google's terms of service. They're all a bunch of liars and what I'm about to tell you is Gospel.
During Jesus' tour of South America he met with Krishna in what is modern day Colombia. Krishna rapped to Jesus "the people here shall spend centuries mastering the ways of making a sandwich thingie and it shall be called an Arepas."
Jesus chewed on one with enthusiasm, then tattooed a message onto Krishna's neck saying "Verily, when they are made of corn shall they appear in New Orleans and the diners shall be blessed with flavor."
You probably know the rest, so I won't waste any more of your time.
Connie Karnowski
Such wonderful food and margaritas. I love the pineapple/ cilantro one.

Super friendly service and delicious cocktails!

I wish I could give this place 10 stars. The food and service were simply amazing.
My wife has celiac so we always have to get the gluten free menu for her. She was so happy to find that all of their food is apparently prepared authentic Columbian so there's no wheat or other gluten in it, so she could order anything on the menu.
We had apps, main dishes and deserts and it was all amazing. The drinks were great also, and fixed pretty strong, so be careful with that.
The place is very small and has limited hours. A local said that he's gotten there with 5 people at 8 pm on a Saturday and just been turned away, so make sure to make reservations for your bigger parties. We just had the two of us and arrived right at open so we got a table right away but the place filled quickly and stayed packed.
We'd eat here every lunch and dinner if we could.
Alyssa Carter
Authentic Creole style Colombian food. Nice ambiance, good and quick service. The Arepas are to die for. The selection is versatile. Appetizers are good to. Empanadas are cooked with the same corn meal as they are in Colombia. No shortcuts with their ingredients. The prices were decent especially for that area which is very touristy.
Naty Rivera
Colombian food, their bandeja paisa & mojitos ate the best!

Excellent food and cocktails. Definitely worth checking out!

We went for lunch. The family and I had a wonderful experience. The food was to die for. The service was spectacular and hyper friendly and inviting.
The Carnicera arepa was absolutely spectacular and had no right being as delicious as it was. My gf went crazy for her Mechada and sugarcane juice.
Cannot wait to go back for dinner!

Everything I’ve had at this restaurant is outstanding! One of my friends recommended it and I’m so glad I went. Every bite is full of flavor. Mais, stuffed fresh arepas and yuca all served with lovely sauces! My favorite international drink is Caipirinha which had for the first time in Brazil. Their Caipirinha is just as good and can be accented with pineapple, passion fruit and other fruits to your liking. Do yourself and tastebuds a favor and go!😋❤️😋
David Adams
Best arepas I’ve ever eaten, and I lived in Venezuela for two years. Great spot if you need some amazing gluten free food.
Philip Greenberg
I don't leave a ton of reviews, because I rarely find restaurants worth reviewing. Mais Arepas is one of the 10 best restaurants that I have ever been to. Every bit of food was outstanding. There is no website and no online reservation system, so we almost passed on eating here. Boy am I glad we did not. The skewers had so much flavor and were cooked perfectly!! The Ceviche was the best I had ever had ANYWHERE in the world. The Arepas, with the plantains were amazing. I cannot recommend eating here enough. It had the perfect amount of spice, it was cooked to perfection and the service was excellent. If they keep this up, they will be noticed on a national level.
Nora McGunnigle
This conveniently located but still off the beaten path spot has amazing, fresh, delicious, and beautiful food. The cheerful decor mirrors the vibrant colors on the plate, and from ceviche to arepas, you can't go wrong. Drink menu is also really strong. Highly recommend.
HEYSI FUENTES
OMG!! This is one of my favorite restaurants. I do recommend calling ahead on a Friday or Saturday night or a big party. The seating area is not big. I've tried just about everything on the menu and can say everything is just delicious. All the drinks are hand made to order!! They are also just as yummy!!
Britta Maddox
If you go to New Orleans and don’t eat at Mais, you have missed the best part of NOLA. Everything on the menu is gluten free and everything is beyond delicious. A little off the beaten path and mostly home to locals and it’s so easy to see why. The atmosphere is fantastic and the food is beyond words incredible!
Ana Navarro
Great food and drinks. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Menu had plenty of gluten free options.
Sabrina Ostrom
The food and service were amazing! I would recommend calling ahead for a reservation since seating is limited. I was a bit skeptical walking in because it seemed liked it was one of those small trendy places and I find that those places lack in food quality, but this one did not. The food was delicious. The mais was the best part!! I was a little worried that the portions would be too small for my liking, but I was so full that I didn’t even eat my whole arepa. We were a group of four and each got an appetizer to split so we had a little of everything. Very good!
Melissa Nicole
Food is Amazing! The Cerda Arepas are authentically delicious you can taste the flavors and freshness. Michelle was our server and she was a master with the drinks. Our first dinner in New Orleans and I think we have to come back before we leave!
John C. Merfeld
I think anyone on earth would enjoy an arepa here, and most could afford it too!
Angela Grassette
Legitimately so ridiculously delicious! My father is from Nicaragua and is incredibly picky about food. He enjoyed EVERYTHING we ordered! He especially loved the dessert special, which was a baked plantain with melted mozzarella cheese and guava sauce.
Karis Ahlberg
A.Mais.Ing. I wanted a place away from the French Quarter and away from the Convention Center. It was an easy walk from Canal Street (if you're a walker) and I'm so glad I found this fantastic place. Reading so many other reviews of other restaurants, service can be lacking. On a Tuesday night in a place that seats probably about 30 people, there was ample staffing. The food is unique and authentic. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. The food was flavorful and well presented. For something delicious and different, I highly recommend.
Lorin Gaudin
One of the City's true restaurant gems. Outstanding food, service and ambiance. Creative Colombian dishes with traditional spirit and flavors. The cocktails are excellent too. Must haves from the menu include the roasted corn, chuzos, shrimp and avocado ceviche, the skirt steak arepas and the passion fruit flan.
Roxy Verduzco
Not real traditional but good Colombian food. Waitress was very complicated didn't allow a party of 5 order separate checks. Added a gratuity of 20.00. Came only once to our table! Asked us twice if we wanted to wait 30-40min for our food. Also when we asked for our food without lettuce or tomatoes she told us we had to order the way it comes beacuse it was the way the chef's presentation was! Everyone got thier food at separate times . Not happy with that!
Cherise Sanchez
The corn is a must! One of the best things I've eaten
Haley Rupp
Favorite place to go for birthdays or when I’m feeling like a good drink
Alli Hill
Amazing food and drink. Small unassuming atmosphere. Great service! Candice behind the bar is amazing! Matt greeted us promptly and was very friendly!
The food makes you want to dance!!!
Henry Curtis
This place was amazing!!!! Stoped by with my spouse and baby today. The staff was very nice and service was GREAT. We enjoyed every part of our meal. We even ordered something that I figured I would let lile but just wanted to taste. When I recieved the bill they removed the item off the bill because I simply did not like the taste!!!!! Wow!!!!
Amazing place !!!
James David
The place is delicious. You need to make reservations but well worth it
Angela Neutzling
Great and excellent place to visite anytime.service excellent 👏 👍 food excellent
Deanna Heger
Hands down the food was excellent!! It was fresh and made when ordered. I would've given it 5 starts, except the staff was terrible. I sat and waited while our server attended to another table constantly. They had their food and drinks ordered and replaced where as I couldn't even get her to make eye contact to try and get another beverage.
Jessica Caballero
LOVE LOVE LOVE this restaurant!!! I love everything about it, the ambiance, the service, the food, the cocktails, the fresh juices, the decor, just everything. The arepas are amazing, the chusos and fried yucca from the appetizer menu are absolutely a must. Make sure you leave room for their tres leches cake...they tend to run out because it's that good. I have gone about 4 times and every time I'm beyond happily satisfied. I have recommended this place to anyone I meet and they have all been really thankful because they end up loving it as much as I do. Please note that you must make a reservation in advance if you want a table or else you'll wait a long time (about 1.5 hours) especially on the weekends. You might lucky to snag a seat by the bar (my favorite place to sit) there you dont need a reservation. Enjoy! :)
Taylor Hamilton
Excellent place to fulfill your pallet if you are craving Venezuelan dishes. It was my first time and I was highly impressed. The only down side to this restaurant is there hours of operation. I guess it's true that you can't have to much of a good thing.
Mila Reyes
I will say the food is ok, but I was expecting Colombian food, like the name of the restaurant said but the taste is different. The fish was not good, was more bones than meet and if is Colombian fish you expected fried and crispy.
NOLA Bookkeeper
Excellent food, drinks are a bit weak, but frankly, that's a blessing. Arepas are almost too large, but they revive nicely in the convection oven at home.
Cesar Romero
Everything about my experience here was amazing. The staff and owner made me feel like family. The food was to die for. The prices are super affordable and you still receive quality. I implore everyone to come and eat here. Amazing experience, amazing people, amazing food.
Sabrina Smith
This restaurant is, without a doubt, a hidden gem! We had ceviche, street corn, empanadas and meat skewers, which were all appetizers. This allowed us to try different foods. All were delicious! The restaurant prepares all dishes from scratch with fresh ingredients. Also, the mojito was the best I have ever had. I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant but I do suggest having reservations due to the small size.
Christine Smith
My SO and I visited this location for the first time this evening, and our experience was exceptional. The staff was attentive, sweet, and willing to answer any and all questions. We had the yucca and the corn appetizers, which were both amazing, followed by our entree of arepas (one with steak, plantains, avocado, and cranberry beans and the other with pork, etc.). The meat was tender, the ingredients were fresh, and the portions were generous. As first-time visitors to New Orleans, this was a wonderful introduction to the city, and we will certainly return to this restaurant the next time we are in town.
Jason Oglesby
Refreshing drinks (limeades) amazing arepas and the red sauce with the chicken broth in it could have been poured over a flip flop and tasted amazing. The flan with the starfruit and blueberry sauce was the perfect end. Worth every second you spend there and the prices were more than reasonable.
The staff was very friendly and warm and answered all of our stupid questions since we've never had this style of food before. Worth it, just go and be amazed.
Chris Haller
Amazing good but staff is disorganized. Called multiple time to be told they don’t take reservations. When we show up they asked if we have a reservation. Unfortunately we were not able to eat here this trip…. Maybe next time.
Lizette Diaz
Fairly priced, authentic, deliciously tasteful Ceviche!
El refresco de fruta I ordered was so sweet I could have watered it down, sooo much flavor! :d
Pro tip: lunch time is the time to go, & the bar is almost empty so a solo lunch is the perfect way to sneak in a good meal there
...I hear they are pretty busy, no wonder!
Props to the cooks and Chef!
(Beautiful place as well.)
Alan Rada
Some of the best Latin food in the city. Their Arepas are amazing! They are even better than some of the ones I've had in Colombia which is really saying something. They also have an amazing passion fruit margarita
Travis King
Love the aesthetics of the restaurant, food was great & service was amazing. The pineapple margarita has to be the strongest margarita that I have ever had!
April Lawton
I cannot say it enough...this place is amazing!!! Word of advise the corn, I know you are probably thinking....corn??? But TRUST me it is a game changer!!! This is a great place to go and actually enjoy your food, not a place to run in eat and run out. All the food takes time but it's because everything is insanely fresh. And trust me it will be worth the wait! You'll want to remember that too because if you didn't make reservations...good luck!
Wood Dawg
So many flavors and choices to choose from. It's a very good stop for lunch and really enjoyed it.
Update: 12 June 19
A must go to place. Great sauces and drinks to go with the outstanding food.
Marjorie P
We really liked everything about this place. The decor is very nice, the service is great, and the food is both delicious and reasonably priced. We tried the maiz, veggie arepa, mechada arepa, and tres leche cake. Everything was fresh. From the bar we also enjoyed the juice and margarita.
Shannon Sipes
My family & I showed up late & we were all hangry & having a rough day...this place was packed. My kids were grumpy & we were not dressed to impress! The hostess was super sweet & accommodating. She let us linger in their very small entry & look over the menu. I had been wanting to come here for a bit & the place smelled amazing. It took a while to get a seat w/o a reservation (tip to all: make a reservation & put on a cute outfit) however since they were at closing time, someone came to take our order so we wouldn't have to wait longer after we were seated...smart staff! I had a mini arepas sampler, my hubby had a steak arepas, one son had the grilled chicken one & our youngest, the seafood lover, had the ceviche appetizer...portions are not huge but flavor is on point! I would like to come back for a date night & add a cocktail & maybe try a few more dishes. Thank you Mais Arepas for being so kind & taking the time to accommodate our hangry lil family 🙏 😍
Becky W
Didn't know what to expect of arepas, but found out they are really good. We didn't have a reservation, but arrived just after they opened, so got a table immediately. Our server was great and patiently explained the menu to us. The arepas are served with plantain chips. We actually could not quite finish our meal, even though it didn't look like a lot of food. If you want something besides Cajun and Creole food when in New Orleans, give this restaurant a try.
marisol arriola
Food was outstanding..I was so very impressed by each and every person in the kitchen, front of the house, etc, having their masks on properly,at all times. I fully enjoyed my own arepas sampler, had tastes of the shrimp and fish ceviche, and tres leches cake was light and moist.... stupendous!!!
Steve Robertson
Excellent food. Very friendly staff,
Hallie Ford
Love this Colombian restaurant tucked away in Mid-City! I come here every time I'm in town. All of their cocktails are made with fresh fruit, I recommend getting one of the pineapple basil margaritas (they are very strong). My go to arepa is the Fanny, which is a combination created by the Chef'd mother
Scott Irelan
Everything we've tried over the years has been great, but the corn is the best.
Rebecca Chapman
Blown away by this place! So sooo delcious! And as a celiac, I am especially thankful for them. Do NOT skip out on the gluten free tres leches! And make sure everyone has their own because you will NOT want to share. Not only is the food AMAZING, the service is genuine and wonderful! Thank you for existing!
Joseph Mahler
Food was delicious! It took a while to get the Arepas (15 min after the app?), but definitely was one of the best I've had. The server was outstanding
Anna Shackleton
Really great spot for dinner. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the food they helped us order was full of flavour. We had no problems being seated at 7pm on a Wednesday but it got busier around 8pm. Highly recommend the Arepa Sampler, Maiz De La Rueda and the Tres Leches.
Deborah Haudel
Amazing food, a must have is the grilled corn.
Go hungry serving size are plentiful.
Yes, this restaurant is a bit outside of the district but well worth finding.
Thank goodness for uber.
Collins Sigler
Great atmosphere! Incredible drinks and empanadas! Chorizo arepas not the best but the pork one was super flavourful! Will definitely be back!
Aviv Nahon
Everything is so good! Came here two days in a row
Amber Flores
You have to try the Columbian mule...lots of ginger and mint.
We tried the sampler for an appetizer, fish dish (sancocho pescado), mechada, carnicera were all equally delicious!! My favorite tres leche ever!...our waitress, Norma was super sweet. We will definitely recommend Mais Arepas to our family and friends...
gabriela alvarado
LOVE this place. Food is mouthwatering. Service is great. Vanessa is very nice:) usually a bit of a wait to get a table but worth it! Price is on the higher end but again worth it. The ceviche is a must try and the white sangria is my fav.
Orlando Velez
The food was delicious and the fresh berry martini was perfect!
Kyle
This has to be some of the most amazing food I have ever ate!
Kristin Hébert Veit
Perfect if you are eating gluten free. Also great vegetarian options and amazing drinks. One of our favorite places to go, but definitely make a reservation if you want something “quick.”
Stephanie Kersten
Food was great, took forever to come out though. The bar seats are included in the wait time. So you cant even opt out of a table to sit at the bar, you have to wait for EVERYTHING. We originally had a wait time for 30 minutes and it ended up being 45 minutes before we were sat at the bar. And on top of that service was slow.
Zoe Lopez
It was a very delicious food, the areas and aborrejados, and we enjoyed the time spent and the ambiance of the locale. The price was more on the expensive side for areas. We still found the size of the areas and the stuffing to be good and satisfying.
Ellis Duncan
Awesome find. Everything here is amazing. I split the sampler and chorizo arepa with a friend. After three nights of fancy dinners this was hands down the best meal I’ve had in New Orleans. Do yourself a favor and come here!
David Bender
My wife and I already loved the corn patty creation known as an arepa, so we knew what to expect. The arepas were fantastic, as were the drinks. My wife recommends the pineapple monitor. The sweet plantain appetizer with cheese (can’t remember the name) was fantastic, as were the arepas themselves!
Benjamin Webster
Spectacular arepas! I had the pork belly arepa and it was absolutely delicious. Decent wine menu and reasonably priced. Had no reservation but it was a short wait and we had a drink at the bar before we were seated.
Tim Jennings
One of the best food experiences we had in NOLA. Absolutely delicious food, I highly recommend the chori arepas. We barely got a table without a reservation so it's popular but not too fancy or expensive.
Seiji Nakatani
Some of the best food I've had in a long time. Seasoned right. Temperatures spot on. Flavors vibrant. Definitely visiting again when next in town.
Antonette Antonio
Excellent food and service.
Appetizer- maiz de la rueda- I never tasted this dish with the spice they used, very unique and tasty.
Main course-the carcinera aripa and the marinera aripa was excellent. The meat was tender and juicy.
Dessert- tres leches for dessert-just the right amount of leche so that the bread wasn't too soggy.
Everything was so tasty, plus the servers were all very hospitable. I left very full and happy:) highly recommend
Ariel Tusa
Come hungry! Because their Colombian dishes are spectacular and the portions are huge! They have the best sangria and the best arepas in New Orleans! I’d thought have a big appetite or want to share I recommend the traditional bandeja paisa
jim fite
So good. Eaten there so many times and the food is always fantastic. Empanadas were bomb, so was the elote. And I can't put into words how delicious the cerdas was. Must try.
Jonathan Kolbinsky
This is the best Colombian food in New Orleans, hands down. It's a little up scale, so don't expect to find the cheap arepas and empanadas that you find on the streets of Bogota and Medellin, but the quality is much better. Just look at the size of this arepa!
Michelle Moran
A delicious Colombian treat! Unique & creative flavor combinations expertly prepared by the chef!!! Arepas are delicioso! You must try them soon! Reservations recommended! Everybody else loves it too!!! Love it!
Fabio Miguel Castellanos
The best of the place is the food. I am colombian, and I can tell you that the food and ots presentation is great. Just a little bit spice (which is not a colombian feature). On the other hand the bad thing is that there are not paking lot and the place itself shoul need an update in decoration. Bring in your pocket about 20 bucks per person.
Gregory Carr
Not only does this restaurant provide a safe space for dining, but also delicious food and excellent drinks. While take out always travels well dine-in never disappoints.
Jose Andrade-Cora
Maïs Arepas was the first restaurant I tried when I first arrived in New Orleans. It was fitting that I paid them another visit before leaving the Crescent City.
The food is delicious! I follow a low-carb diet, so I sampled different appetizers, so as to stay away from the corn arepas (which are quite flavorful, by the way). The shrimp ceviche is light and right on point. It is served with whole shrimp, enveloped in a sweet and spicy sauce with pickled red onions. Amazing! Other sampled dishes included the "yuca frita" (deep-fried cassava with chorizo sausage) and "chuzos" (grilled beef and chicken skewers). These dishes were made whole by the unique and delicious sauces that accompanied them.
The service was cheerful and friendly, if a tad slow at times. Latin music wrapped up the package rather nicely. Prices are moderate, for the New Orleans market.
Visit Maïs Arepas. You won't be disappointed!!
Miles Love
Excellent dining experience. Great food and drinks for reasonable prices. Casual and cool atmosphere. For drinks, the Mint mojito and house sangria are my favorites. For appetizers, you can't skip the Maiz De La Rueda (two half cobs covered in cheese/cream sauce with mild but flavorful spices) or the Yuca Frita (the sauce is out of this world, but would've enjoyed a couple more frites... Still worth it). The Cerda and Choriarepa are phenomenal with the latter being my favorite (mix it with the hot house-sauce for a mild-moderately spicy flavor explosion). Will continue to visit.
David Gonzalez
OMG! Best Arepas I've had in the US. They are usually always busy so call ahead and make a reservation. I had one bad experience here (tables were reserved and held past the time the party was suppose to arrive) while waiting for a table. Since then have returned numerous times and no issues. The wait staff is great. We always have Norma as our server and she always goes out of her to ensure that we have the best dinning experience. Tried the cilantro pineapple margarita and was amazed, soooo good and I don't drink fu fu drinks but this is awesome. Thank you Maïs Arepas for the great food and great staff.
Kirat Sun
I moved to New Orleans in July of 2015. Mais Arepas was one of the first restaurants I ate at and I fell in love. I eat there about once a month and many of the servers know me by name. The people who work there are lovely. A few weeks ago, I also had my birthday dinner the there which was a huge success.
I am a vegetarian and my favorite meal there is the Fanny with pink sauce. I love the avocado and how it adds to the flavor of the plantains. My second favorite meal there is the Huevona. As far as appetizers are concerned...I order the Maiz or the Yucca without meat.
The music and atmosphere all contribute to the dining experience. The food takes a while to prepare and the wait on busy nights may seem unbearable due to the aroma from everyone else's food, but it is worth it. In this situation, patience is definitely a virtue.
This place is great for special moments, dates, meals with friends, and going out to dine with yourself.
Charlie Borrello
Seriously amazing food. I've eaten here at least 10x and it keeps getting better! Definitely do not skip the maiz de la rueda (corn on the cob app). The mechada arepa is also so damn good. They earned every single one of these stars for taste, service, price and more. Highly recommended.
Andrey Priemtsev
Very nice quiet place, staff is very welcoming and polite, food is amazingly delicious. Definitely coming back, and average price, me and my wife spent $38 , ordered appetizer- grilled corn, and 2 meals with 1 glass of white sangria which was omg delicious, you will not be disappointed I promise, kids friendly
Andrew Rife
Insanely good food! The best part (for me) is that the kitchen is completely gluten free! If you have Celiac or a gluten sensitivity, you MUST enjoy this place!
Daniel Rasmussen
What a great little place. First-time arepas consumer, foerver-time Mai's Arepas lover. Had the choriarepa with chorizo. Just exploding with flavors and the chorizo maybe the best I've ever had (should be noted I'm from the midwest, so take my take for what you will). Also, not for nothing, but the coffee was a perfect Colombian brew. 5.1 stars!
Jace's Cheap Trips
Great bar, great location, great ambiance, great food!
Kerry Mccarthy
What a wonderful food experience. Got lucky bar setting, recommend reservations for table setting. However the food was great. Will return to explore more of the menu.
Cole Conner
Like I said to Matt, our amazing bartender, Mais Arepas was the most satisfying dining experience I've had while in New Orleans! Absolutely stunning!
The staff are very pleasant. The food is mouthwateringly delicious. The atmosphere is very comfortable. Thank you Mais Arepas!
Natalia Serra
It was ok. I thought it was going to be better than it was. Service was ok. My mom asked if she could have the sweet fried plaintains separate (as opposed to inside the arepa), but for some reason the waitress said they couldn't do that. That she'd have to pick them out herself....The steak was super salty. Now the empanadas were good, as well as the mechada arepa.
I might go there again, but not when I'm too hungry because it is a bit pricey.
Samantha Farber
This has become our Sunday night go-to, which speaks volumes seeing as though New Orleans is a city all about great food. The menu selections are full of flavor and you can tell that everything is made from scratch and in house. After eating at Mais, we find ourselves underwhelmed by other restaurants and their food.
The place is small, so it’s best to call ahead for reservations or arrive for the opening. For an appetizer, try the Yuca Frita, Ceviche, or street corn! The Mariners Arepa is our favorite. The portions are huge, too. And if you’re up for a cocktail, just sit at the bar and you’ll find yourself in awe of their beautiful creations.
Beth Lovoy
We loved every bite! Sitting at the bar allowed us to chat with the staff. Too bad we live so far away. This would be one of my favorites!
Craig Mac
Went to Nola to eat cajun food and all things there-in. Just so happened to stay across the street from this place... lets just say that I've eaten my way around Nola as per all the top cajun hotspots... THIS PLACE TOPS THEM ALL!! Best restaurant in Nola imo. Such amazing food dont skip out because your afraid to try something new. Suck it up and go eat here!! You will love it and you will thank me. Dont eat for a day or so get a wicked appetite and order the Bandeja Paisa. It was so so bomb!!
Travis Pope
Great food and wonderful desert's.
I had the soup and it was amazing and hearty.
Francisco Candal
The best Colombian food this side of Bogotá. Excellent appetizers, Bandeja Paisa and Flan de maracuyá (passion fruit). Really outstanding. Great Sangria as well. Attentive service. Great atmosphere. Strongly recommend

Ok so full disclosure, this is the best arepas I’ve had in a while. Definitely the best arepas in New Orleans and I might say close to very good arepas in Miami. Downside: the service is very slow, to the point where I’ve had to wait for food for 40 min. They are extremely nice and will make you feel comfortable while you wait and even put some appetizers on the house if wait is unreasonable.
Even with this caveat I would 100% recommend. Also, make sure you have reservations!
Kyle Loveless
Delicious food. Corn was great.
Geneva Seana Rosenthal
SO GOOD & 100% gluten free which is so nice for someone with celiacs. Fun and friendly staff.
Siri Santos
Everything was delicious! Our party share all of our plates, it was amazing food. Excellent service, bilingual personnel, fun place, clean and nice decoration.
Jessica Brondum
No experience like it! The most amazing food and drinks! Very fresh so be prepared to wait! The only downfall is the restaurant isn't big enough to hold more people so it's always booked
CR birdie
Oh my goodness! So delicious! New Orleans isn't the same post-Kartina. Too many restaurants are overpriced and pretentious. So glad I found Mais Arepas! Cool atmosphere. Amazing food. Priced beautifully for the quality and portions. Will definitely be returning! So happy I found this place... Keep it up!!!! Wish ya'll were in Lafayette!
Samantha Coomer LeDonne
Soo good. Need one of these in Florida. Gluten free items available.

Bar...Amazing, especially bartender Cadice...
Service: Excellent. Food: Krazy Authentic...
Hostess Amanda..Not so great...fake and does accomodate customers. She's programmed to smile and say NO ...and No again...
. That's Not Columbian.... That's not good for restaurant industry....hood for high school

Mais Arepas is a place that feels like a colombian version of Home. Everything is made with so much LOVE! Food is beautifully presented in folkloric details and it tastes Marvelous!!! Cesar Solano took care of us with so much genuineness and patience ( we are HIGH maintenance) we has so great with us! The drinks are A-MA-ZING!
This place is a gem where they put so much love in every single detail.
I will always go back even tough we are the loudest table they thrive at making you feel like a KING! Cesar , thank you!
Brett Jackson
The food was absolutely amazing
Tave Fitzpatrick
Great food at a great price. Might be a wait on popular nights as it's not that large. Really can't go wrong with just about anything on the menu frankly.
Baldi Mefer Mejia
Good is very good quality and presentation but ever since the 1st time I've been there (years ago) the bandeja paisa has changed way to much. It's cheaper now (25 compared to 32) but way less meat. Hands down the arepas are the best items, so authentic 🔥 …
Thomas Werts
It was my first time here. The service was fantastic, the dish was very good just trying something new. Its worth the trip
Melissa McNeill-Hudson
Great overall experience. Atmosphere was very laid back. Drinks were amazing and food was exquisite. Taste explosion!
Blythe Picard
The street corn and arepas are amazing! Fresh limeade. The room we were seated in was very loud though.
Juan Andrade
The place is very clean and comfortable, food and cocktails are so delicious
I definitely recommend this place to enjoy some drinks, food and music🎶 …

Food is great but the service is hit or miss, especially when ordering To Go. Just today I attempted to place an order for pick up and for whatever reason I was told that they are only accepting dine in. Seems a little insensitive given the current environment so I guess we won’t be supporting anymore.
Emelie Hilm
Amazing food, drinks, service and everything on the menu is gluten free! I had tonight's special accompanied by a margarita and mojito. Great price level and cozy.
Indigo Gill
It was delicious and I'll definitely be returning!
Samantha Gobright
Absolutely phenomenal food and service!
Chase Beckmann
These Arepas are soooooo good. Way better than most of the food in the French Quarter. Atmosphere is cozy and relaxed. Didnt have drinks or dessert but they all looked good.
Sabrina Navarro
Great food and even better service. Bartenders are 10/10.

This place is incredible! I want to try everything lol. So I’ll be back. The service was amazing. And everything was fresh. They do get a little bit crowded but totally worth the wait
Marissa Allweiss

This is by far one of the best restaurants in Nola. Amazing food, the best drinks, and the people are genuine and friendly and all around wonderful. If you've never had the experience of dining here, you are missing out.
Nayelly Barrios
Delicious arepas! They have one of the best chimichurri sauces I've ever had! Customer service is fantastic, too.
Eric Welch
Very Friendly service. Delicious food!
The entire menu is gluten free so no issues for those with celiac.
Marshun Richardson
I'm sure had I known what I was ordering evening would've been just fine, but even still the food way immaculate!!!! The service was amazing as well!
Rebeca Alvarado
I give them three stars because the food is great but some of the food items are not as they should be as I am latina and know the flavors but my favorite plate from there was the mecha plate and the bandeja paisa and also didn't really like the attention of the customer service that was given and they charged me $3 for a 2 oz sauce that was very expensive I was expecting at least a little bit more than 2 oz for $3
Scott Burlington
The elotes alone would have me coming back every week. Add great arepas, friendly service, healthy portions, and good prices with tostones that keep up, and I'm a happy camper. This place is a great example of food done right in our city without the deep pockets of a chef whose face is plastered on everyone's tv. Keep up the good work guys, we're rooting for you.
DRS
Authintic Colombian food. Good service. I recomend the Bandeja Paisa.
Molly V

Sabrina Schwaab
Love this place. The food is so authentic. The sauces are excellent. I tried the ceviche the last time and almost ordered another. My friends and I visit Mais Arepas every time we go.
Jon Addison
The food is good authentic Colombian, the ambiance is modern but cozy, the drinks flow and are well prepared, street parking only lastly it's best to call for a reservations as waiting for a table can take a while.
Grace Becca
Fantastic food. Awesome service. A never miss when I travel!
Alyssa Wagstaff
Amazing! The flavors and ingredients are so fresh and tasty
Dustin Plowman
One of the best meals I’ve had so far in New Orleans. I don’t know what is in the sauce they serve with the corn, but it is addictive.
Santiago Emilio Rocha Montoya
The best Colombian food I’ve got in the USA. Really good service specially from Junior in the bar. They have the best chicharrón in the world
Omar Rodriguez
Went with friends. Great drinks, amazing service and awesome food. We had arepas, bandeja paisa, and a few other appetizers that delivered an awesome experience.
Bergman A. Mendoza
Unique in many ways: the food menu, the original drinks, the ambiance and music makes this Latin place a totally diference experience. One con: a bit too small.
Raul Galaviz
Nice place to sit down for lunch. Always consistent every time I come. Great food and service. One of the handful of places I actually recommend in the City
Lenny
Great food, service, and prices!! We'll be back!!!

This place was suggested by our hostel and what a great choice it was. The food was amazing and the service was fantastic! Be sure to book because it can get pretty busy!
John Cornwell
Maiz De La Rueda (street corn) is one of the best dishes in a city full of exceptional dishes. If nothing else, come get Street Corn and a margarita. The arepas are delicious as well with a full slate of options for all tastes. You can't go wrong.
Laana Acosta
everything was delicious 😋
Earl Hill
Food here is super delicious. Staff is really nice and courteous. Will definitely return in the near future.

Great service and atmosphere, the food was good. However, as a Colombian I found that some dishes lacked true Colombian flavor.
DEE M
Loved this little gem. Never had Colombian food but oh my word! Delicious!!! The food, the ambiance and the service 👌 …
Stephanie Cooper
I liked the food but portions were small and somehow overpriced. Also one of the arepas had a hair. We didn’t make a big deal out of it, we just took it out.
