Reviews of la Madeleine
There is not enough space to write how wonderful this place is!!! Every food item is delicious, every staff member is friendly and the place is so clean and welcoming! I will always make the trip to eat my 7 grain bread, potato soup and strawberry Napoleon when I'm in NOLA!
We were running late for a swamp tour, and came across this restaurant. The food was good, the people were friendly, and the prices were reasonable. The food came out very quickly as well. Will definitely be back.
It was rather busy today but the service was still exceptional. I enjoyed my ham and turkey croissant and will return soon for the delicious pastries.
I absolutely love this place. Their Onion soup and Dipped French sandwich are some of my favorites, their desserts are small, which I love, and SO worth the calories. It's a great place to chat comfortably as well. Highly recommended!
Absolutely amazing.
A must try, pricing was great, everything is fresh and on point. Unfortunately the creme Brule isn't toasted on top but outside of that even it is amazing for its low price tag. Budget friendly bourgeois bites
We were originally going to have breakfast across the street but thankfully came here instead as they had vegan options and we have some veg in our group. We had a large party and tried a few different things, all great, bakery treats and drinks were good too. Service was very nice, the man who tended the dining room was very sweet.
The only complaints were that some bakery items weren't heated up to a hot enough temperature. The potato hash thing, a quiche, and croissants that came with meals, pretty much cold, but still really good. Would come here again for sure!
Thank you for the great experience!
My daughters and I absolutely love La Madeleines. We drive over an hour one way just to eat there. This is my favorite restaurant. We just recently ate there and the food was amazing as always. The croissants are our favorite. They are so flaky and warm and the best I ever had. During the fall season this restaurant has the most amazing seasonal foods and beverages like the pumpkin spice latte. The staff is wonderful and they go out of their way to help their customers no matter how busy they are. A 5 star review is not enough for this wonderful place.
Delicious French food items. The service was exceptional. The new team members are service oriented, friendly and happy to serve. Great outdoor seating with a view of streetcars! I recommend this restaurant.
Still the yummiest tomato basil soup ever! The croque madame was so good, as well as the basil pesto pasta. You can fill out a survey for a free dessert, pastry or coffee but it kind of takes a while so I didn’t have time bec I wanted to eat while it was hot. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Stopped in for late breakfast in between meetings. Good food and service. Quiet place to catch up on emails.
Stopped in for a late breakfast around 1130, not too busy, ordered the French Breakfast and Coffee. Portion size good, eggs cooked as requested, enjoyed the hash brown cake(?). Coffee from the dispenser was warm, not hot...only issue.
Everything looked amazing. What we did order was AMAZING. We took a few bites before we remembered the pictures. So good.
I loved la Madeleine. We visited twice while we stayed in New Orleans and totally enjoyed it. The only negative thing that I can say is the potato Galette was overdone and in a couple bites determined inedible. But everything else was very delicious. My favorite meal was the Croque Monsieur with Caesar Salad and Tomato Basil Soup. Delicious!
One of my favorites! I love everything in this place, specially lazy breakfasts... I take my book and read... Everything is delicious!!!
They had an outdoor tables and chairs Love thier Quiche and Salads.
The food was good. The location and view were great, with streetcar and lovely architecture that make New Orleans special. The service was not that good. Employees were nice but some things were not out and available and you'd have to ask for them. Like cutlery. But overall very happy and will return.
Good food at a moderate price. However, they may be having staffing problems. I call for a order to be picked up to save time. When I arrived they had made the wrong kind of thing. They hustled up and got the right sandwich put together pretty quickly, but still...
The food was excellent and they whipped those breakfast potatoes out, faster than I could say "who dat".
Very cute little place! Order your salad and soup, then select from the options of sandwiches or meals. Various desserts, all very good. First time and greatly enjoyed ourselves. Sat outside and watched the going ons around us. Recommended!
They have the best soups and pastries here ever
They have a good king cake croissant going now because of the season. I find the rest of their food bland & overly priced !!!! Their large soup to go container looks like a small container & it probably holds about 3 to 4 ounces !! Totally ridiculous & a rip off !!!!
Visited the S. Carrollton location. This was a high let down. The cashier was in such a hurry to get out of therey order was taken incorrectly. After 20 or so minutes of waiting I looked at my receipt on the table and realized everything was wrong. When I asked the new cashier on duty she cleared everything up. She asked if we had received any of our order that cashier one was supposed to bring us but didn't. Service from number 1 terrible, server 2 great, food not worth the wait at all!
Nice little atmosphere with some good food. You can hop off a street car and enjoy what they have and hop back on another one. Super convenient
Parking is scant. The ambiance is worn out drab. The manager was serving the food and ringing it up while trying to run the restaurant so the process was moving rather slowly. The food was...okay. I had the quiche and a Caesar salad. The quiche is just about frozen food quality and bits of the salad lettuce were wilted. I sat outdoors. What the place has going for it is that the prices are reasonable and it’s located right at the corner of Carrollton and St Charles. It’s the kind of place that causes one to feel guilty for just being honest when writing a review so I’m assuaging my conscience by giving it 3 stars rather than 2. Fair trade.
I had riding the trolley through the garden district on my bucket list and I saw la Madeleines on the route. It was absolutely charming and our lunches were so yummy. Will be on our list to return the next time we come to NO.
Food is excellent. The butter croissants are to die for. When visiting New Orleans it is my go to place for breakfast from now on.
I love this place! The food is always so fresh and tastes like it's homemade rather than preserved in various chemicals like other restaurants. Even a half a sandwich will fill you up and it comes with a side. I love the desserts as well, the parfaits and Sacher torte are the best! Next time I want to get a loaf of bread, the bakery is just amazing 🍞. Your employees are always sweet and kind as well.
It was an okay experience. I ordered the French dip and the sandwich was good, but the dipping juice was cold, and flavorless for a beef broth. I went at 5:00 so to be fair it was a lot of end of the day food. However if you're trying to keep a standard the mark was missed. For example the tomato soup, the staple, was not fresh. It was super chunky and sour compared to how it's supposed to be. The service was nice, and when we asked they replaced the tomato soup. Though it should have not been served to begin with.
Excellent tomato soup 🍲. Three salad.dish very good. Absolutely no complaints except they were out of salmon and some of the varieties of salad. We were there late on a Thursday after 7:00 pm …
I like this place, and visit it perhaps a dozen times a year. Their food is good, their staff is always gracious, the service is usually prompt, and the ambience is always tops.
That said, I was disappointed on my most recent visit, for an early-afternoon lunch. I ordered my usual French Country Breakfast, one of their signature meals. Instead of their usual prompt service, it took a full 25 minutes for them to serve my meal, well after my companion had finished her salad.
I would hope that this delay was an aberration, rather than the new rule.
So I got my food delivered. First bite into the Tomato Basil Pesto Pasta Salade and I was taken to another place. You can taste the passion that the chefs here put into the food. Everything made in that kitchen is nothing short of Art. Just the pasta alone had such Incredible flavor, and their pastries were just delicious. I am in love with the food here. And fascinated with a place that is not only able to surprise me but one that’s able to give me an experience during a time where I can’t even visit the restaurant. I only hope that I get the chance to try their famous Créme brûlée Next time I order.
La Madeleine’s is a tasty treat on any day. Great staff quick service.
I honestly cannot rave more about this place. The tomato basil pesto pasta salade is scrumptious, crave-worthy, and I wish I could have more. Honestly the only complaint I have is that I want more. Even the side ceasar salad was one of the best I've had in while! The housemade croutons were made out of 3 different types of bread and they tasted amazing. The croissants are buttery and delicious and tasted like they were just made this morning just like the other pastries I ordered. Even something as simple as a blueberry muffin was just on another level here. I will 100% save this place and I definitely recommend ordering or even visiting. 92/100
A good breakfast is a start to a good day. A great breakfast casts a glow on your day and provides extra motivation. I had a great breakfast at La Madeline! I wasn't sure how to order when I first walked in, and the friendly cashier explained the process and suggested that I take my time looking over the menu. So many tempting choices! I settled on a crepe and a French potato cake, my first time trying either. Oh were they delicious! I savored every bite. Looking forward to future visits here!
Always fresh, hot food. Great service. Clean tables. Friendly staff. I watched the cashier carry this older lady's food to her table, pull out the chair for her and help her get comfortable. So sweet. You don't see that level of kindness much any more. Bravo. BTW, get the tomato basil soup...divine!
Amazing staff! Devante (sp?) is the best! He helped us fix an issue with our order with a smile! Thank you!
One of my favorite restaurant/cafes ever! I know it's a chain but you honestly can't tell when it comes to quality and personability. I LOVE everything on the menu and the coffee is always fresh and hot. Plus the bread selection here is absolutely AMAZING! My family and I frequent this place for both lunch and dinner. My only complaint is the parking situation. It sucks, but then again we are in New Orleans and that is generally the case no matter what area you are in.
Although delicious, the pesto pasta is not what I've expected. The salad with qinoua was excellent.
Delicious looking pastries! ... Handicap accessible. Food is average, service is lazy but friendly - slow paced, take your time, relax a little... Very New Orleans.
... Prices are average overall - cheaper than the French Quarter, but on par with a Denny's or a Waffle House (if they served french style pastries) ...
Great food! There were five of us, we weren't planning on eating there, only getting tea or soft drinks to cool off. But after looking around at the pastries and at the menu we decided we were hungry after all. The food took about the time you'd expect and it was delicious. It was an unexpected find, a gem at the end of St. Charles.
Well after a long hard day of partying on Bourbon St. My wife and I decided it was time to unwind with some pastries. Exquisite absolutely Exquisite. 3pc apricot twists and 1 lemon tart. Not enough words can express the taste, flavor and service. ❤️🇺🇸 Ciao.🍮🥐 …
Its a nice place to go for a light lunch or a bit over priced patisserie. I like their soup the most. Their outside is a nice atmosphere. The bread and jam comes free with your meal. Just be aware, this is a cafe, not a restaurant. Don't go here expecting table service. The staff is usually adequately nice and attentive, not necessarily going out of their way for you. My favorite of the La Madelines, but mostly because of the outside seating and eating hot soup on a cool day.
Outstanding little bakery with top notch product. Only issue is the parking but I have a feeling due to the surrounding community I guess it can't be helped. Over all awesome experience with a very packed parking lot.
The food was good, nice for brunch
Stopped in after a ride on the trolley to see a bit more of New Orleans. Lovely place for a snack and drink.
Always have great conversations with the employees here, they are very outgoing and delightful. The food is, as always, wonderful. I get the tomato basil soup (highly recommend!!) and a salad. For desert, they have a great selection of pastries. My favorite is the caramel creme brulee.
It was so quaint, sitting inside was very sweet & refreshing. You could even say peaceful as you sit & watch passing cars, people, & bikes. There was even beautiful French songs playing as you ate.
Delicious bites, superior service. Nice spot for a quiet morning.
To say the food here is perfection would be an understatement! The creme brulee is the best I've had since I was in Paris and I'm very impressed. Do yourself a favor and eat here ASAP!
Enjoyed it!! Only complaint was waffles were a little overcooked on the edges, but I still enjoyed it
Food was delicious, I ordered a pasta madeleine. It took a little more than expected but was pretty good.
Way too expensive for what you get. Definately a tourist trap. Cashier and cook both told me my meal didnt come with a salad. Had to go get a menu and point out their mistake. Could tell it wasn't targeting repeat customers. The food did taste good. The coffee was cold.
Fresh bakery with delicious Itilian baked goods. Also great sandwiches and salads. I was visiting from Michigan. Nothing like this there.
Just Ok. Cafeteria style service where you grab a tray, order and sit yourself but priced high because of the atmosphere. Pre-made options are not that hot but baked goods are tasty.
Got the Avocado Toast... Want worth$5.50... The bread was only toasted on one side and there was hardly any avocado... Just a very thin smear...I would have been better off, and cheaper, ordering one piece of toast and 1/2 of an avocado... It would have been less than the Avocado toast.
Wonderful patries and breads. I have had the Sachertorte and the chocolate croissant. My husband likes the lemon tart. There are small slices of bread available with excellent blackberry or strawberry rhubarb jam. We have liked the sandwiches, soups and salads we have tried. Service is good
My favorite location on St Charles Ave. I love la Madeleines. When I walk in I love the rustic French decor that transports me. The food is very good. The coffee and desserts are better. I love spending time here when I'm in town.
Just picked up a couple of deserts ,was excellent
Everything was super fresh and we could tell our meals were made from good ingredients. The lemon cream cake was to die for! Very cute atmosphere as well! Loved it!!
Good Food, but a bit awkward getting it ordered. As a visitor to the area, the process was not clear.
The locals came in and out with ease.
Delicious lemony Madeleines. Wait staff greats you in French. Speakers in the background provide introductory to French language. A great place to stop for coffee near the end of the trolley line. Very fun!
I have a very stand-out memory of this cafe. It was raining in the beginning of summer. My grandparents took me on a photography trip down to the city. I just remember sitting in the most peaceful place right there in la Madeleine, with a HUGE cup of coffee and the best bow-tie pasta I'd ever had. One of the best days of my childhood.
Disappointed. This location did not live up to standards like the rest of them. Both the potato gallete and Quiche Florentine was served cold (barely Luke warm). Quiche was bland.
Coffee and French pastries. Plus you get a French language lesson while you use the restroom. Another thing to love about new orleans
Ask for eggs in the shell if you don't want scrambled eggs poured out of a carton.
Food is great and most staff members are nice. However one big bald white guy has problems. The dude walked through our group as we were taking a picture intentionally and didn't apologize. Then as we were leaving he slammed the door in the face of our elderly female minister. I hope they get rid of that neanderthal before he causes real problems for them.
The food is good but a little overpriced for the amount of food you get. Also, their app is more difficult to use than other restaurants, where you have to scan your QR code at the register before you pay or you can't get credit for your purchase towards future rewards.
Forget everything. Just have the tomato soup. After walking the garden district and spending the day out, it was perfect and delicious. We are from Chicago and even looked up to see if we can order it! They sell them in jars so definitely grab some if you can!
Tucked into a pristine location this place is sweet. Great pastries and coffee... full breakfast, sandwiches and such.
Very down to earth prices for high quality everything. Great staff. Well run. I'll be back.
Great service and great food! My wife and I wanted soup and salad Amazing!!!! For those who don't eat that they have more to choose from. Oh the have an amazing dessert bar!!!!
Oh how i love this place!!! The best eggs Benedict ever. The best treats. Super friendly people. Great coffee great atmosphere. Free bread and jam!!
Definitely on my list when I'm in NOLA! Yes there is a wait but it's well worth it! Try the shrimp and grits! You will not be disappointed!
Got the French breakfast to go, came out in 5 minutes and was really really good. The hashbrowns were incredible and the raspberry croissant in the glass case was off the chain. 🙂 -matt & macaila from NC. …
It was a nice place to sit and rest after walking along Carrollton. The hot cocoa was a little on the milky side, but the staff was kind and the bread and jam were delicious.
Always thought that this place was just a bakery and sweets shop. Oh no, it's much more than that. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Very nice people with delicious food. Will definitely return again.
We really enjoyed this place. The food was great and the wait time reasonable. Would definitely stop by again next time we're in town.
Good food, very nice service, pretty location. The linzer cookies are divine! Get a box of them to share with friends and family over coffee.
Great cozy spot in the Riverbend area! Everything is made fresh daily. It's a great spot to fine casually as the historic St. Charles streetcar passes right outside! The spinach quiche is to die for!
Nice place, great food & service, clean establishment (including the restroom), reasonable prices. Their coconut cake is to die for!! Enjoy my time here with family.
I love Le Madeleine, mainly for one reason but it's a good one: f'ing Tomato Basil soup. Sweet Baby J, this soup is darn tootin yummy. If it was a drug, I'd be heating up the spoon right now
Awesome as usual. I can’t return to New Orleans without having breakfast at La Madeleine at least once per visit.
Very cute place. Food was great. Great salads. Very fresh easy to get to. Limited parking, but plenty off street. Busy. Nit too long of a wait. Prompt friendly service
Pre made breakfast croissants!? Mine was cold. Not your usual quality, la Madeleine. Tsk tsk. Strawberries Romalaud was very good and service was awesome.
Delicious and great service. It’s like a locally owned Panera but much better!!
With a staff almost 50 full timers, our team is always looking for great places to eat in the Riverbend. La Madeleine is without a doubt one of our favorite go tos! The food is always fresh and the staff couldn’t be friendlier. Only 5 blocks from our office on Oak St, this location is so convenient and right on the streetcar line for those enjoying an afternoon in uptown New Orleans. They also offer online orders for take out.
Place ok.. Service ok.French toast plate COLD... Paying for HOT food. Should NOT put cold fruit on top of French toast, put in cup to side. Some patrons maybe allergic to strawberries.
Very friendly service and good food, in the French style.
Best fruit tarts of varying sizes. Never a bad experience. Love the atmosphere. Try the French onion or Tomatoe Basil soup.
Consider has a lot of employees they still struggle things are never right and it's always a long wait the food could be good service has a lot to improve
American breakfast with a croissant, eggs and bacon hit the spot. Don't forget your coffee and to pick up a couple of preserve Jelly's.
eh...i'm not a huge fan of breakfast or french bakeries but my family likes going here. They do have a delicious tomato basil soup though!!
The staff is always friendly and the food consistently good. This evening I got a baguette fresh off the oven, and it was amazing.
Found this delicious spot while traveling.
Nice place for a breakfast or a quick bite. Friendly staff, small parking. Overall the food is above average.
da restaurant is da place to hangout... staff are very friendly & so polite ... da selection of foods are to good to pass up...
Oh my! Bakery is excellent. Food is so fabulous and great prices! We were very thrilled to find this place.
Cute little place with outside dining. Little pricey but not too bad. The food was delicious
Delightful atmosphere and environment to enjoy a healthy meal or sweet bite. Dine inside or out (especially on a cool fall day)!
The food was great it's nice little sit down place. They have breakfast and dinner options.
This little bakery took me by surprise. The prices were fair and the food was delicious. I will be coming back.
It was just okay. The coffee was somewhat weak and the pains au chocolat were extremely expensive for their quality.
So wow! This will definitely be one of my favorites. The service was impeccable, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere amazing.
We had two breakfast croissant sandwich with orange juice. Good breakfast.
Cozy atmosphere and fabulous baked goods. Try the raspberry and cream cheese croissants - superb!
Sandwich was great! Think about sharing one, you will want to save room for dessert.
Okay coffee, okay cookie, good atmosphere but slightly dated in many ways. But no red flags.
Nice place, good food. No crepes. :(
Love that onion soup and unlike costco they make correct shape croissants...excellent baguettes too!
I love going here on a Saturday morning. Great Croissants and the staff at St Charles and Carrollton are very nice!
Always an enjoyable meal.
Decent food spot. Nothing crazy, great service though
Good food, but parking is so limited in that area.
Love the tomato soup and bread!
Had an awesome french dinner (said I, a person who's been to France many times) . A very cozy place. I love it
The restaurant is very elegant, a french style. Sadly, I didn't like the staff service.
Cesar salad, tomato basil soup, potato galette and sacher torte on the patio while the street cars rattle past.
Great food could be hotter in temp. Cashier not very pleasant. This is a like a cafeteria.
Great service, chic, French, lovely food options, pleasantly quiet, great croissants and breads, Fantastic
I really love their quiche florentine mushroom soup and tomato basil pasta
Great eats and chill vibes. *Tulane students! They accept both Nola and splash bucks!
The food is always good. I enjoy the Quiche Lorraine and the potato galette.
Good food. Great prices. Ladies room often has questionable cleanliness
Nice location to sit outside in milder months. Good food, beautiful desserts.
Great people and great service, very personal and attentive staff.Food and dessert are great too!😉 …
This restaurant had really good food and the staff is very nice
I usually like this place and often visit while in New Orleans. Today's croissant was stale. I mean about two days old stale. I will pass the rest of the week.
Great French food, bread is particularly good. The service is quick and friendly
Easy to grab a quick bite. Jump off and on the street car. Consistently good service and food.
Ambiance was changed from pre-Covid days, but still present good value.
Very comfy and good food value. Always enjoy stopping in for a bite.
The pasta salad tasted funny last time I got it. Wonderful tomato soup!
Great place to eat. Friendly staff and fresh food.
Food just ok, service not great
Good as usual. More of a neighborhood eatery. Limited indoor seating.
We had a great time looking and sampling cheese bought a lot to take home.
Food is always served in a timely manner. Wonderful service!
The service is always good and the food is good especially the desserts
Great location, okay food, but awful customer service
Nice country French bakery anf restaurant not fancy but comfortable
Great service. Great atmosphere. Good food. Beyond overpriced!
Really great food and great service. Didnt take long.
Try the fresh fruit tarts they have the best! Large or small they are delicious
For some reason I love the chicken freand, even though the mushroom sauce is always cold.
I've been a patron of Le Madeline for at least 20 years and they never disappoint
Amazing for dropping in just to grab a morning croissant...their raspberry cream cheese pastry is a delight!!!
Decent place to grab a quick salad or sandwich but nothing spectacular.
It was very dirty, food and plates on every table, but the food was good.
Yes. That's the only answer you need if you're even curious about going in here. Yes. Do it. It's all amazing!
Great food and great employees. Always makes me feel at home.
Both the soup and the sandwich was excellent
Usually very good but today blew my order, cold coffee.
Delicious pastries and food. Always great, friendly service.
Very good creme brulee. Food looked good but I only tried the sweets.

Delicious soups and devine pastries!
Standard, good menu with consistent soups, and a pleasant staff
Great local authentic cuisine for a good price
Should have built a French cafe in America rather than an American concept of a French cafe.
the fruit tarts are so yummy
Always an experience. Hate plastic wear though.
Nice 👌 …
Great coffee. Didn't eat here.
Twice now they have packaged burnt galettes for puckup.
Food is good but the night team was not that friendly

(Translation) A little disappointed by the quality of the quiche "French" which is very different from the real, especially as the dough at the edges was hard as concrete! Excellent mushroom soup as well as salad that you can compose. Disappointment also for the cheese pie, I come from Alsace and again, nothing to see. Too compact and heavy, for me, tart fully "Americanized".
In the toilet, very nice, French music and a lesson to learn the basics of our language.
But when I came back from the bathroom, no more pie or coffee, everything was cleaned when I was not finished! And the waiter, a little beside his pumps ...
The principle of the restaurant is nice but improvements to be made ...
