Reviews of Johnny Sánchez

Everything we tried was delicious. It was our first time so I had to try as much food as I could. The tacos were amazing and the drinks were perfect too. All and all one of the best meals we had on our anniversary trip to New Orleans. Definitely going back next time we're in town.

I can’t say enough about this restaurant! It was truly fantastic!! The food came out appetizing and the taste was even better and I’m super picky when it comes to Mexican food!! The tortillas with the tacos tasted fresh and homemade. I would have like for the chips and salsa to be free but that’s ok and we loved the fried plantains! The service was amazing! The food even better! We’ll definitely be going back!

I have heard great things about this place so stopped by for lunch with friends. I love the feel with the artwork on the walls and the decor. I had a blackberry bourbon smash cocktail, can’t resist a unique cocktail. Overall the food was good, but some dishes could use more flavor, specifically the guacamole. Also the portion size of the guacamole for the price isn’t justified for me.

Popular spot because it's owned by a celebrity chef. I'm not too big of a fan of upscale Mexican, I prefer a homie normal spot. I think some of the best service I've ever received at a restaurant was here.
The tacos here are so yummy but honestly way too expensive, I could've get over it

Yummy tacos. They are small and a little pricey but really good! You'll have to order more than 1 but they were really good and we pared the tacos with the street corn. The plantain chips with the queso were delicious and their cocktails are strong! The ambiance was nice and chill and a good place to just enjoy ones company.

Tried this place out for dinner tonight. The staff was extremely friendly (especially the hostess, thank you, she was so very kind and welcoming!!) and my water glass was kept full. I got the burrito with chicken added in and let me just say this: the chicken was so flavorful and it was my favorite part of each bite. Prices were a little high, but the food was good and the burrito was very filling. Atmosphere was very very cool and the restaurant was very clean.

When I heard Chef Aaron Sanchez had a restaurant in New Orleans, I had to try it out. Went there for an early dinner with my family. The place was not crowded and we were seated promptly. The menu was traditional Tex-Mex. We started with the chips and salsa, and were pleasantly surprised to see fried plantain chips included with the tortilla chips. We ordered classic fare like the Quesadilla, Burrito and Fajitas. Everything tasted fresh and authentic. My son ordered the fried chicken sandwich and that was juicy with a large piece of fried chicken thigh topped with slaw and mayo. We shared a pitcher of their house margarita between the two of us. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and the bill did not burn a hole in my pocket as some celebrity chef's places do.

I highly recommend the tacos which were creative and flavorful. Great cocktails. The menu is simple and creative. However, chips and salsa were really a waste of money and should be included. Shame on them for charging $5 for charred plantains, bagged corn chips and run-of-the-mill salsa.

All of the food was incredible! Especially the banana pudding tres leches. To die for! The waitress was pretty terrible though. I think she only checked on us once after we finished all our food and didn't even ask to take any plates. The guy who brought our dessert had to grab them.
Ash GR
Highly recommend! The best happy hour place, great tacos and drinks, love the cauliflower taco, margarita and plantain chips. I would think twice to go to this place. 6/5 on everything vibe, food and service.

Service was wonderful. Prices were reasonable. Questions was delicious with just the right amount of heat and comfort...however the Shrimp burrito though presented well was bland, the Arro Con Pollo was as well and the rice tasted stale and crunchy. Bourbon smash was delicious. And abondigas taco was good but a drizzle of queso brought the heat that it actually needed to make it more enjoyable. Overall not what I expected from such a prominent Chef's establishment.. Decor however was very enjoyable and had the level of flavor matched that it would have been a much better experience.

While in New Orleans, it is a mandatory stop for us to get Johnny Sanchez happy hour menu. This review cannot speak for the regular menu, simply because we have never passed the HH one. Now, don’t get me wrong, all food looks amazing here, but the HH tacos are affordable, delicious, and diverse enough for us to just keep it simple. The “albondiga” taco is my absolute favorite! I can eat 10 of them and never get sick! We highly recommend this place for a casual happy hour, nice drinks, and great atmosphere just a few blocks from the Superdome.
Kelly Kittles
Great place for lunch, the salsa is a must have. Salsa has amazing flavor and goes perfect with the chicken burrito. Clean restaurant and a friendly staff made our lunch a good time. We walked in at opening time for lunch and were right away, I would guess 15 minutes later there was a wait.
Brittany Stone
Super fun location walking distance of the superdome. Has a unique decor style that is open bright and fun. Food is deliciousness and filling. Perfect brunch spot
Just My Touch
We are from Pennsylvania and I have been wanting to come here and highly anticipated the eatery. From the start it was great that my plus size wheel chair was easily able to get in the door as I regularly have trouble with some establishments. Our waitress was kind and checked in with us often. However, I do feel that she could have been a bit more attentive to us especially since I disclosed we were from out of town and tourists when we asked her specifics about the menu. We dined during happy hour which is between 2and 6 I believe. She gave us quick answers and moved on but we were not familiar with the fact that you only get 1 taco when you order your specific. We ordered 1 of everything on the happy hour menu. Including a cocktail. The cocktail was good but It wasn't what I expected. The meatball and cauliflower tacos were wonderful. In my opinion the best part of what we ordered. The carnitas were VERY DRY. Definitely not what any establishment would strive for. There was a lot of it on the taco but it was too dry to enjoy so we doused it with some of the queso we ordered to get it down. We ordered 2 desserts. One was the cinnamon crunch cake and the brownie with bkk n gold. The brownie was supposed to be served warm at least but ours was cold. Even the waitress said oh yeah, you shouldn't be able to touch the cast iron when this comes out. Well in that case it was ice cold. She sent it back and told us they would make another one but came out quickly with the same one reheated which dried it out as well. There is a defined line between decedent and dry. This was dry. Sadly you could tell in the blunt center what this could have been from the first bite since the middle escaped the over heating where as it destroyed 80% of the serving. The other visible staff was disheartening as he had a slow and low energy about him that made us feel like with all the hiccups..if everyone working there moved at that pace...explains why the less enjoyable things prevailed. Sadly I can't say I have any plans to return. Unless I bring someone for the same reason I wanted to visit so badly. Which was the experience of dining somewhere you know that an owner set the bar high for good food. I gave 4 stars because I feel like it can be better and maybe we caught them on a bad day. FYI It was a Tuesday during mid happy hour and the place was nearly empty. By the time we got done about 1.5 hours later there had only been 4 other guests.

You HAVE to go!! It was SOOO good! Better than we even thought it would be. Everything has great flavor, cooked perfectly! The best Brussel sprouts I’ve ever had! Customer service was on point too.
Eduardo Moguel
As soon as we entered we were greeted by warm and friendly staff. The ambiance was eclectic, chic, and modern with a nod to cultural traditions. I thought the food was ok, nothing spectacular but the sauces and accompaniments really helped out. The food is not authentically traditional but still good overall. The experience and the service was what made it for me. I would recommend it and will revisit it again. Oh, I might add that the prices are modest, nothing outrageous as what one might run into in that area.
Wrangler Wells
The empanadas are some of the best I’ve had anywhere, possibly the very best! The next best thing we had to eat was the carne asada taco, it was very savory and also one of the best carne asada I’ve had.
The arroz con pollo was eh, wouldn’t recommend. The albóndigas taco was interesting, was meatballs with like a savory gravy-ish sauce.
The pricing here is more upscale Mexican pricing, tacos were $7-8 each, I think all entrees were $16+.
Overall if I were to go back it would definitely be for the empanadas and carne asada tacos.
Vianka Calderon
What a wonderful meal! The food was absolutely delicious. We enjoyed the chips and salsa first; the salsa was the star but the plantain chips were an exceptional surprise. Next, we had the chicken flautas; they were topped with a chipotle sauce and pickled onions. Finally, for the entree I had the enchiladas and these were the best tasting I've ever had. The food was accompanied by some jalapeño pineapple mezcal margaritas that were just strong enough. Aaron even made his way around the restaurant to say hi to the customers and take photos. It was an experience I'll never forget and extremely happy we made our way here for dinner.
Lee
The Carne Asada was very flavorful, seasoned well and cooked to perfection. The shrimp quesadilla was large and tasty but the tortilla was a bit thick. The guacamole was fresh and paired well with the banana chips. The dining area was clean, well-kept, and very upscaled. Our server Gabby did a great job ensuring our needs were met throughout our dining experience. She was very personable, friendly and welcoming and kept customer satisfaction at the forefront. I’d ask that she be acknowledged in some fashion for her work. Overall, I enjoyed my meal and would recommend you give this spot a try.

As I made my itinerary for vacation here in NOLA.
This place was on my list to eat.
Due to this award winning Chef, judge on MasterChef. Aaron Sanchez!
I went during Happy Hour. I had the Albondigas & Cauliflower tacos. These tacos were amazing! Mexican food on a higher level. A delicious mouthful of savory flavor. Top notch! Not to mention the Horchata specialty drink.
The vibrant atmosphere setting was stunning. Booyah!! 👊

The food was amazing. Brought my mom for her birthday since we love Aaron Sanchez and it was great. Drinks were amazing
sunil mahato
highly recommend. Amazing food, friendly staff. Not your average mexican food. Tacos had great flavor and taste !

it would of been 5-stars Mr. Sanchez, the seater/greeter whatever you call him, sucked. I came in there spending over $100 and he kept looking at me like I didn't belong there. Uh bro you looked the same color as me, you have no business acting bougie, like we didn't belong. your back was toward us and you turned around from time to time just to stare, at least smile?!? I went to look at the souvenirs and he told me I had took keep his little deck of merch cards in the walk way where other customers were coming in. Like I wanted to take it...I was sitting a few feet away, would it of killed you to allow me to take it to my table and bring it back so I would be out of the way? I loved the food, waiter was alright, seemed a tad bit forgetful to come back and check on us at times but overall he was average. Aaron, you can do better with a greeter, seater, server who actually acts like they like to work or people at least, he is definitely not the right person for the job. Middle aged man, possibly white or light Hispanic lol other staff was alright, basic NO service, not the best or nothing to write home about, You deserve better, being a chef of your caliber!...overall I will go back only because I enjoy Aaron Sanchez and the location and albondigas!
Ana Furzan
Great tacos, great chips, nice happy hour. The food is really good, the environment is super cool also the owner is super cool guy and comes to your table and ask you about the food the service, we liked it and definitely will be back. By the way mango margarita delicious. Stop by after work and decompress

Great service and food!!! A breath of fresh air from the same food that all the NOLA restaurants were serving. Fish and cauliflower tacos were my favorite. If you’re in New Orleans, stop by. It’s really worth it! The latter was posted 10 months ago. I went back a few weeks ago and had to update it. Food is still excellent! Try the street corn. This time Chef was there and omg!!! what an amazing, nice humble down to earth man. No one would think he was a celerity chef. To be a host on MasterChef and be so humble warmed my heart. ONLY complaint is the bathroom. It's shared with the other restaurants but clean esp for NOLA standards :)
Ana Cisneros
The food was good. The ambiance is great. I will say it is a bit pricey for what you get. I was excited to come and try his restaurant.
Phonsomchith Attanaphone
Found out the cofounder was a celeb chef. Good but not worth the price we paid. That's tough when you have to pay extra for the sides. Rather go to a mom & pop Mexican restaurant. At least the ingredients were fresh. As it should be.
Chance Bordine
Overall a pretty good spot in New Orleans. The meatball taco and salsa was delicious. Everything else was just ok. The service and atmosphere is great.
TexasMustang08
Great atmosphere, lots of beautiful artwork, and delicious food. Enjoyed the unique menu options.
Princess Syd
I ordered through DoorDash for lunch. The chicken burrito with a side of queso was tasty. The prices were decent and the service was fast.

Solid 4! I had never heard of Johnny Sanchez until I saw the owner on Hell’s Kitchen a few weeks ago. At that point, I knew I had to try this place out. I’ve ordered twice through Uber Eats and everything was packed really well! The Queso was delicious, one of the best I’ve ever had. I also enjoyed the accompanying chips which were half tortilla chips and half plantain chips...very creative! The Adios Burger is amazing! The burger patty was high quality and the fixings were full of flavor. I’ve also tried the burrito (add carnitas). The jalapeños and onions (I think they were pickled) added a nice touch to the burrito. My only complaint is that the carnitas was not as tender as it should have been. I hate to compare this place to Chipotle, but Chipotle is winning with their carnitas lol. When I got to the bottom of the burrito, I finally found some tender meat but by that point I was too stuffed to enjoy it. Overall I was impressed and would love to do in person dining to see what that’s like.

Award winning Chef Aaron Sanchez. Great food, fresh, and delicious. We had pork enchiladas and meatball tacos. It was well prepared and fantastic. Highly recommend and will return.
Justin Bowen
This place is seriously amazing! Food is out of this world and service was awesome!
Kayla Riley
Food was good, drinks were good. Service was good, no complaints. Only thing is the restaurant is very small so there is always a wait. Other than would definitely recommend if you want Mexican food in the CBD.
Christy Beegle
Service was good and appetizers were great. Did not care for the burrito I ordered. It was a good portion size. I just didn't care for it. I would like to go back and try something else on the menu. Cool atmosphere!

Ok so I Love Aaron Sanchez and I made a spur of the moment drive to NOLA with the family from San Antonio Texas. I was excited to find out that the Johnny Sanchez restaurant was close where we were staying. So here's my review, the food pictures well. The plantain chips and corn chips and salsa was good. That salsa was awesome. Now onto the food, the carnitas burrito was good. The cons the rice in the burrito need to be either white rice or traditional Mexican rice. It tasted like they use par boiled rice which I dislike and to me it taste like a store bought instant package. Next the mini street tacos we tried the carnitas, fish, albondigas, carne asada. Pros carne asada was great, taste and everything. The carnitas tasted like pork belly. The albondigas was ehh my son said it tasted like a frozen meatball with barbeque sauce and parmesan cheese. I had high hopes for that one. Cons tacos are $5.00 each. My son said mom we could have gotten mini tacos in San Antonio cheaper. Sorry Aaron. My son said he'd love to give Johnny Sanchez another try if he can help Aaron revise the food. Lol love you Aaron Sanchez.

Beautiful decor, friendly service, and the food 😍. As a reformed California girl, Mexican food always lets me down in the South but not Johnny Sanchez. Tasty upscale authentic food! A great location if you're going to a game or a show. Don't miss it!
Alicia Escalante
Overpriced, lacks character, and the staff was lukewarm at best. Not rude and not attentive.
They don't have but one kind of salsa which isn't spicy at all. The salsa didn't have great flavor.
It's a one and done kind of place. The food wasn't bad and definitely not worth the price. I'd go to Chipotle before I went there again.
Matthis Pluska
Ordered the market salad with shrimp and chipotle dressing — it was a great portion and very delicious, big shrimp! My partner had a veggie burrito which was equally yummy however for his standard or preference, left him a tad hungry (burrito was small), but tasty!
Sarah Betts
I really enjoyed our Friday late lunch here. Had a hankering for a cheeseburger - especially when I learned it was made with ground brisket. And THE FRIES. Thin and crispy with a bit of spice all over. Plus the queso for dipping anything and everything. My husband had 2 tacos. I had a bite of the albondigas one. V flavorful. Our server was great, fun decor. Try the spicy Marg. I like their spin on chips n dip with the plantain chips - most could have been sliced thinner.
Thomas Marino
I would have given higher rating except that I watch master chef.
1 the rice was parboiled rice. Not fresh. And from a food service company. I have tasted this rice at other resturaunts. 2 the street corn was too sweet and not on cob, so not fresh.
The meatball taco had no seasoning and was tasteless, not a good representation of his mother's recipe.
So we spent 50$ or so and got 3 tacos 2 street corn 1 rice For 50$ Way !!! too much for this. I would have had better food at my favorite taco truck. So Aarron doesn't practice what he preaches on master chef. He probably doesn't come by anymore, and knock heads together.
cedric lee
One of my favorite places in the city! Great ambiance inside. Friendly staff. (I think Jenny from the block was our server) She made great recommendations and we tried the chicken sandwich and quesadillas. Both were amazing. You've got to check them out!
Sarah
Happy hour margaritas are fantastic. I love the chips and plantains. The service was absolutely spectacular. We ended up ordering the fajitas beef and they were tender and delicious. Highly recommend the guacamole. The top shelf margarita was definitely a favorite and so was the mojito.
A Smith
I really don't get the bad reviews. I'm in town for work and have been here 3 times in 72hrs lol. The food was excellent every single time. We ate in the restaurant once and ordered twice. I highly recommend the cauliflower tacos or the catfish tacos. And the salad is a MUST.
Lee Lastovica
Just a quick tip to what Johnny's is and what it is not. It is well prepared dishes with the quality you would expect for what you're paying. What it is not is cheap. It's not a taqueria. With tacos prices at $6 each, you should expect them to be excellent. And they are. I have to mention the queso fundido as well. What an excellent appetizer. A flavor explosion. I can say that this is not the place I would go daily for a quick taco fix. Johnny's is more of a date night or business meeting type of meal. Everything was excellent.
Jennifer Michel
Plantain Chips are a little bit of a miss because I was expecting a tostones taste. It was...bitter? Super thin and crispy. The queso sauce was really good. The crispy chicken sandwich was succulent and delicious. I opted for brussel sprouts on the side instead of French fries and trust me - it was an awesome swap if you want to be on a "healthier" side of the meal.
Leslie-Claire Spillman
Really good. The cauliflower tacos are everything. The menu has some nice variation, and for the most part the flavors are on point. The plantain chips mixed in with the tortilla ones are awesome. Great ambiance, and good service.

Great place for some lunch gourmet style tacos. Good Service with a decent atmosphere. My fav. was the special of the day which was a delicious grilled fish dish. The goat cheese with beets was also very good. The tacos were good but I'd like more non-fried options. Will try again.
Ivy Low
The place is very nice. Good to have lunch or dress up and have a nice dinner. The food was absolutely amazing. Had a shrimp quesadila which was the BOMB! This coming from a person whom rarely does mexican food. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars across the board is because my waiter/bartender (I sat at the bar), seemed to not be too concerned about me as a patron. From the time I sat down upon meeting friends who were already there, she greeted me but did not ask me anything else. After waitong a while, I decided to ask her for a menu which she openly retrieved. From there I it seemed she forgot about me and I had to get someone else to take my order. And no she was not busy lol. It was my first time there, so I don't feel like I can just bash the joint for something small like that. It is just something to keep an eye on next time.
Lorie Lenharth
Good hungry because they will feed you! The food was absolutely amazing! The interior is decorated very nicely with so many small, yet amazing touches.
John Matus
The service was very good! I had the Carne Asado tacos, which were delicious. The street corn was ok, I've had better. Margaritas were good. I didn't feel the atmosphere.
Andrew Patterson
Starting with the positives: Both the ambiance and the food are great. My wife and I ordered salsa, guacamole, street corn, and carne asada and fried shrimp tacos. The salsa is roasted and downright delicious. Both the chips and plantains were very good and were a great flavor match. The guacamole and corn were good. Both types of tacos were done perfectly. Overall, food is a solid 5 star.
Negative: We had really poor service. We were seated with our menus and had our choices in about 5 minutes. We sat there for another 20 minutes without water or someone ever stopping by. We watched other people come in, be seated, get water, and have their orders taken. When our server did finally come by, she was genuinely apologetic. She took our order and when she brought out our chips/salsa/guac she said that we were getting them for free because of the wait. If that was the end of bad service, the service would be 100% forgiven. Instead, we hardly saw our server again (someone else brought out our food). Even though we ordered both salsa and guac, we received only 1 basket of chips. This would be fine, as long as we had a way to refill it after we still had salsa and guac left but had no chips. After another 20 minutes of waiting, we asked one of the other servers walking by. The chips were salty (which is fine), but we just sat there with empty water glasses. I would say our water glasses were empty somewhere between 90-95% of the time we were in the restaurant. After finishing our meal we sat for another 20-25 minutes waiting for the bill untill someone else brought it. . Our experience was clearly tainted by the service, but it appeared that other servers were fine. Perhaps your visit will be better. If the service was good, this would be a 5 star review.
Danielle Gawronski
Went as a group and everything we got was melt in your mouth delicious. The banana chips with the tortilla chips was a delightful surprise. Salsa wasn’t spicy.
Elizabeth Silva
We had items from the happy hour menu, albindigas taco, carnitas taco, steak quesadilla. The steak quesadilla was fabulous with a crunchy cheese exterior. The queso and fire roasy salsa were excellent as well
Chasity J.
Johnny Sanchez has an extremely nice atmosphere. Spacious with a vibe that works for business meetings, dates, happy hour, lunch, dinner and so forth.
My favorite dish is the shrimp tacos. They are perfection. The tortilla chips are way too salty . The quesadilla was not worthy and I don't recommend it. The queso was alright. The margaritas on the rocks are wonderful!
I do recommend Johnny Sanchez and have visited a few times. Of course I visit frequently.
Amanda Reed
Clean, simple and to the point. Menu was an easy read and helpful. I ordered the mexican rice, street corn, along with a carne asada, shrimp and meatball taco. The asada and shrimp taco were amazing! The flavors complimented each other nicely with not one note standing alone. The meatball taco, while having nice flavor, fell flat. The texture of the meatballs was off and everything else overrode their flavor. The rice was a nice compliment to them but nothing made it stand alone. The corn had a nice flavor perfectly roasted but a bit too moist for my taste. Would definitely try more from the menu
Charlotte Hazout Reuveni
The meat tacos was good the other ones nothing special, we have ordered a burrito and a duck enchiladas, I had to return the enchiladas because it tasted like melted cheese all over and it was too much. The waitress was really nice and replaced it by a chicken quesadilla. I wish that it was with pulled chicken because it would have been much tastier. Generally the food is good but way too fat and oily, nothing healthy on the Menu.
Jennifer Fuentes Karl
Really liked our dinner here. My husband didn't like as much as I did. The chips have an...uh...interesting flavor. It didn't bother me, but he couldn't stand it. Tasted to me like they may use a different kind of oil to fry them in? Idk. Sanchez margarita was one of the best I've ever had. I had the steak fajitas which are not traditional fajitas at all, but were very delicious. Hubby had the quesadilla, which was good, but not super noteworthy. I liked the casual, yet nice atmosphere and location is great - right in the heart of downtown. Overall I would definitely come here again.

We had a great time at Johnny Sanchez. The food is really good with little bit of twist on some staple Mexican food items. Their salsa was really nice which is always a good start. The guacamole and brussel sprouts were top notch. The fish and oyster tacos were really good and flavorful. The stand out item for me was the grilled chicken with crispy rice. It had the right amount of spices and flavors and the crispy rice took it to another level. The ambience is really modern and service is pretty good. We are definitely coming back the next time we are in NOLA and would certainly recommend it to others.

We were walking by Johnny Sanchez on the way to Luke's Oyster bar and stopped to read up on the place. Found out it was started in 2015 by Famed chef and star Judge on Master Chef Aaron Sanchez. This place did not disappoint. Street corn was amazing! We ordered one of each of the five Tacos they offer. The quesofundido was great as an appetizer. It comes with fresh corn tortillas. This is as close to authentic Mexican food you will get this side of the border. I really enjoyed my meal.

This is a high quality modern Mexican kitchen not a typical Mexican place.. oh and the margaritas are great!
For the main dish we ordered the enchiladas but it was so cheesy we couldn't taste anything but cheese, then our amazing waitress who came just in time to ask us how we're doing, immediately offered to change our dish, so we took the quesadilla instead which was great.
A word of caution, we ate so much that we were out-of-order for the rest of the day... Pace yourselves..
Cody Holland
The bad: We had reservations for 6:30 and got our appetizer at 7. We didn't get out until 8:30. That is with no drinks or dessert and the restaurant at 80% capacity. Service was pretty slow in my opinion.
The Neutral: As with many more upper scale restaraunts, you pay more than an average dinner and get less food. The taco was $5 and about 3.5" diameter. It would be a challenge to fill up on just the tacos.
The Good: The plantains and salsa were decent, the sourdough appetizer was delicious, but the edge was burnt and left a burnt aftertaste, the fish taco had a great flavor, the guac was fresh and tasty. The duck & pork dish wasn't anything special and kinda left a soap aftertaste, but the shrimp platter hit the spot.
Overall, probably won't go back, but I would recommend trying it out if you want to drop a $100 and have a few hours for dinner. I've heard of the $2 taco happy hour, this would most definitely be worth it.
Hari Narayan
The Margherita was one of the best I've had. Nicely balanced not too tart not too alcoholic. Could have had a jugful! While I didn't care much for the salsa as it didn't have enough kick in it, the guacamole was spot on. The octopus was surprisingly tender and had a refreshing flavor, almost like a palette cleanser. The lengua taco was flavorful and definitely a must try and the icing on the cake was the desserts. Absolutely loved them both!
Stefan Maronge
This was a wonderful restaurant. The chips snd salsa were delicious. The salsa had a wonderful taste and I loved the variety of chips given. We got tacos; Carne Asada, Oyster, Cauliflower and Meatball, all were delicious. Our server was very patient and polite. I hope to get back here again.
JD
One of, if not the best restaurants I've eaten at. Amazing staff, delicious and strong drinks, QUALITY food. Everything is fresh and delicious, bursting with flavor, from the plantanes and tortilla chips, to the salsa and queso. Our waitress was amazing - we we're there for my birthday and she brought out amazing peach ice cream, which was clearly house made. The sweet Mexican Street Corn is to die for. I can't say enough good things about this place. I am impressed!
Z
Incredible atmosphere and food ! Tried the pig ears as recommended by Blake , and they were incredible! The egg on top really added a lot of flavor , also tried the Mexican coke one of my favs, as well as street corn and carne taco , very good although I couldn't finish the street corn , enough for 2 , I liked their high end tequila selection, I will be back , thank you!

Let me start with WOW! We had the skirt steak taco, tempura califlower taco, & Albondigas taco "Aaron's Grandmother's recipe for meatball taco". Hands down the best tacos of my 32 years of life, and I have lived in Los Angeles for 7 years. We then moved on to the duck enchiladas and street corn. The duck enchiladas sounded strange to me at first, I was thinking to myself "would that work"? Turns out, it works, it works well, it works VERY WELL! I am willing to say that it is not only the best enchiladas I have ever had, but also the best duck dish I have ever had. The Street corn was not your traditional Elote, but extremely delicious non the less. Throwing caution to the wind at sounding corny here, This meal was life changing. Too many "celebrity chefs" have restaurants that have led to disappointing meals, Johnny Sanchez is in NO WAY one of these restaurants. I cannot wait to return, you have made a lifetime customer/supporter of me Mr. Sanchez.
Sarah Smith
SO GOOD! Best meal all trip. Every bite was amazing. Best was the cauliflower tacos.
Eugene Williams
The food was so delicious - everything tasted as good as it looked, with its own distinct flavor. I really loved the plantains chips and salsa. The margaritas were just right. We had a fantastic time!
jim robeson
Short trip to NOLA, we had to visit Aaron Sanchez only eatery. The decor was clean, inventive and inviting. The menu small but alot of choices and flavors. We had the meatball tacos, the crispy shrimp, carnitas and the fried catfish tacos, each had their own flavor profiles. Pefect combinations of textures and punch. Actually the best meal we had on the trip. Hated the fact that the virus was playing havoc on the city at the time, please make sure to eat here!

I came in last night around 8:30pm with a co-worker.
We ordered:
Carne Asada Taco: extremely salty, almost inedible
Lengua Taco: delicious!
Cauliflower Taco: never came
Duck Carnitas Enchiladas: the duck was super tender, similar to pulled pork, definitely order this
Mexican Street Corn: big portion off the cobb, I loved this so much
The service was lacking even though it was a slower night. I would want to come back to try the queso fundido and fish tacos.
Misty Williams
Each dish was amazingly delicious and also gorgeous to look at! Was a beautiful atmosphere & a lovely experience. Kudos to Chef Aaron Sanchez & Chef Miles Landrem!
Frank Flores
So service was a little slow, and they weren't that busy. But the food was delicious, the Arroz Con Pollo reminded me of my grandmothers cooking! Would come back again for sure!
Sara England
This was my first visit. I was really impressed with the salsa- it is thick enough to hold on to a chip and spicy. Delicious. We were not disappointed with anything we ordered- had the oyster, meatball and califlower tacos. Really is a hidden gem in New Orleans.
Vivien
Based on what we ordered- plantain & nacho dip, yellowfin ceviche, crisp pig ear, crisp oyster taco and meatballs taco. We enjoyed our meal, dishes are very flavorful.
Felix Olmo
What is not to like about Johnny Sanchez. First time is New Orleans, decided to eat some mexican food to follow tradition, definitely one of the best we have tried ever. The quality is supreme to say the least. Queso fundido, regular chips, Plantain chips are awesome. The salsa is really good, however we like spicy so we ask if they have house spicy salsa. To our surprise they didnt have, but the waitress didnt hesitate to ask if we wanted they can make it (took like 6mins) but again one of the best spicy flavor salsa we have tried ever. To top the visit Oaxaca Margarita with passion fruit and coconut, and a regular lime margarita.
John Dicasali
Our server, Belen, was the perfect balance of playful, helpful, and attentive.
Margarita on the rocks was perfectly balanced. Gin and tonic came without a lime.
Plantain chips were a pleasant alternative to the usual chips but we're underseasoned. Salsa was great.
Pig ear appetizer was very flavorful with a buffalo style sauce.. Wish the yard egg yolk had been more than 25% runny.
Arroz con pollo is fantastic and an easy go-to choice.
The tempura-battered shrimp platter was a winner too.
The banana tartlet is worth saving room for.
Kashanda Foley
Went here for happy hour yesterday, we tried all the tacos on the happy hour menu. Everything was great , I would suggest asking for extra sauce on the pork taco a few of ours tasted dry . The Johnny margaritas are bomb and also half off a single/pitcher. Love the lighting decor in the ceiling and good customer service.
Carole Sharber
We weren't too hungry so we just grabbed some apps. Had the queso fundito and pig ears! Both very good! This is a John Besh and Aaron Sanchez restaurant so the decor is BEAUTIFUL and menu is diverse. Service was great, we loved Morgan! We decided to live it up with a tequila shot before we left and Morgan suggested that we go for the bartender (dealers) choice. It was Au-Mazing! Definitely do this! It was 3 shots of really good stuff! We had some Mescal with worm salt that blew our minds!! Go here!
Temple Brown
Everything was fresh like they just picked it from the garden. Aaron Sanchez was there, and he was quite pleasant. The food was amazing the service was awesome and if I lived here I would be there every night.
Sarah Danzl
One of the best meals I’ve ever had. Quality from the front of the house to the food. Great decoration, clean, tasty food. Waitstaff is kind, generous and helpful.
Recommendations:
Street corn
House frozen margarita
Doberge torta for dessert
Shallia Lovely
Good food, good music, good service, not a long wait. I had the burrito with chicken and shrimp. Expensive but it was yummy.🙂
K
The man can run a restaurant. It's flavor overload no matter what you have. This is my second time here and I visit from new York but this place is THAT GOOD. Mexican food is hard to find here and GOOD Mexican food is even harder but this place won't ever let you down.
Ibukun O
Atmosphere: Latin music playing in the background, not too over bearing and drowning the convo. Great atmosphere and service.
Food: went for happy hour. Prefer the corn tortillas so request it if they have. The flour tortilla is good too.
Tacos
Pulled pork was best, not too sweet.
Meat balls was ok and odd, but juicy.
Chicken was a let down, it was hard. Good idea with the cucumber tho as its refreshing on the palette.
Catfish looked better, crispy.
Chips and plantain with guacamole was top notch, guacamole wasn't too oniony. Great that red onion was used either. You can actually taste the avocado and it's worth it.
Washroom: ok, could be cleaner.

Johnny Sanchez is a high quality restaurant with great service, great food, great drinks, and a great ambiance. To start, you can dress a bit more casual than you would think. There were people in shorts and t-shirts to people who were dressed for a night out in the town.
I usually do not go to higher-end restaurants, but my friends and I were out celebrating and decided to treat ourselves. We also wanted to try the food and support Aaron Sanchez, a chef from El Paso, Texas where we came from. The food was delicious. Although a simple dish, their elotes were amazing - probably some of the best I have had. Their drinks are elegant, tasty, and attention was put to their presentation. The ambiance also made the experience that much better.
I appreciated seeing someone who is native to the cuisine take it to a high-end level, rather than the food being appropriated by someone who is non-native. You can probably find similar food at a lower price point, but this was a worthwhile fine-dining experience complete with well-done drinks and a wonderful ambiance.
Melissa Brendtro
Service was great and the food was delicious! We got there before 6 and took advantage of several yummy half price drink and food options. The decor was really cool too! Downside: it's loud, but that's pretty standard.
Katie Brewster
Happy hour so good I was mad we weren’t staying for dinner. $1 giant container of plantain and tortilla chips with smoky salsa, and half priced drinks!
Luidely Baez
This place is ridiculously good. Amazing Mexican food, with originality and flare as a bonus. See Lizzy for great service and a friendly smile. And to top it off, we find out the restaurant is owned by Aaron Sanchez. (Yes, that one, from the Food Network) Who would've thought.
D D
Prompt seating and good margaritas. I had the chicken quesadilla, the filling was good but the whole thing is crusted and fried in cheese which made it a bit salty for my taste. Beer selection isn’t the best but that’s how most Mexican restaurants are. The ny strip has a sizable portion and very tasty.
Robert Bowman
Meatball and asada tacos the best in house. Great place to grab lunch. Definitely worth trying the chicken tortilla soup.
Mat Shaw
Food here was excellent, moderately pricey. We had the guacamole with the chapulines, they added some salty crunch, but probably not for the less adventurous eater. The albondigas were also excellent. I had the duck enchiladas, they were very heavy but delicious (reheated and tasted great the next day!). Would definitely eat here again.
Kate
Best vegetarian tacos I had in New Orleans
Caroline Martel
The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and came out quickly! I would try this place again! The empanadas were so good we forgot to take a picture first.
Richard J. Vargo
This place is amazing. The House Made Salsa Roja, Corn Chips, and Fried Plantains are a great way to start the meal. The Albondigas Tacos are sooo flavorful, and the meatball and queso complement each other so well! The meatball literally melts in your mouth. While Cajun food in New Orleans is a given, this place is a must-visit for any tourist!
Alyssa Wagstaff
The atmosphere is amazing! Tacos and margaritas are great! Some items are a bit overpriced, but you are paying for the atmosphere and experience provided by the celebrity chef/owners
christina smoorenburg
Short wait, server was very sweet and had suggestions for us. I had the special corn and cheese tamales with a brisket sauce that I could have eaten all by itself. My daughter has a giant burrito and ate the entire thing!
Samantha Archie
The food was amazing. But that daggone Adios Burger! 🙌🏾 .... Listen, the Burger lives up to its name because since my friend and I went in and had it, it's BEEN SOLD OUT every time we've tried to go back to try it again!!! 😩 I literally want to give it 5 stars, but I can't because this burger is apparently always sold out! Johnny Sanchez, please adjust for the supply and demand 🙏🏾. Lol (& maybe reconsider a business model, because this burger is AMAZING!)
Celeste May
We saw Aaron Sanchez on Hell's Kitchen and had to try this restaurant, we were not disappointed. The menu was INCREDIBLE!! The tacos were wonderful and the fresh margaritas were delicious. We will be back any time we are in New Orleans.
Jeff Miller
Planned trip to Flordia and had to stop at Johnny Sanchez. A super fan from his days on Chopped. Had chps and salsa.. Plantains and chips. Very good. Salsa had great flavor. Carne asada was awesome and had great flavor and potatoes(called something else)
Oh so tasty. Had there $2 margarita and they are not shy with the Alcohol.
Was very happy with lunch.
Miranda West
I was so excited to eat here during a recent trip to NOLA. The food was absolutely wonderful! The queso dip especially with the plantain chips was great even though simple. I got the seared tuna tostada and my taste buds were in heaven! Each bite was perfectly balanced, creamy, crunchy and just enough acidity. I only gave 4 stars due to the service. Once we were seated a waitress never came by our table, it was a busy lunch hour and the hostess noticed the lack of attention. She came and took our food and drink order while someone else brought the food. After that we never had anyone else stop by the table to check on us and I would have ordered another drink. Then we had to flag someone down in order to get our check and that was after the lunch rush was over. Overall I would definitely return and recommend this place.
Loretta Adams
Mexican food with a new orleans twist. Spicy, flavorful and oh so delicious. Shrimp and meatball tacos, chicken quesadillas, spicy guacamole all washed down with a margarita that you can feel. We're coming back EVERY TIME we come to the city. Attentive staff and intriguing atmosphere. Don't be bashful, say hi to the manager.
Dr. Dave
Fun, open atmosphere taco place. The food was excellent and we went during happy hour so it was VERY reasonably priced. Only $200 for all 12 of us to engorge ourselves with margs and special made small plates. The guacamole stood out from the crowd of wannabe avocado-artisans here in New Orleans. Unlimited plantain chips were supplied during our experience, they were sweet and salty - perfect accompaniment for the House salsa, which was also complimentary. We will definitely be back!
Michelle Vespertino
Love this place. The food speaks for itself.
Well worth the trip.
I would eat here everyday if I could.
Wait staff is friendly also.
Justin Bronson
you gotta get the meatballs taco
Karen Helsel
My dinner partner loved his oyster taco. My carnitas burrito was dry, and the bottom was crispy - too long on a heat lamp? His carne asada was better than the burrito but not up to the bar set by the oyster taco. The top shelf margarita was...meh. His rating was the four star. Personally, I'd give it 3 and find better places to eat next time.
Sonia Chaudhary
The food here is incredible! With the modern yet artful decor and cool ambience, the food does not disappoint at all. The tacos are some of the best I have ever had. The queso is indescribably amazing... every little piece of the food, every morsel is mouth-watering. I truly wish they would open a location in NYC! I would be a frequent visitor :). Please don’t change a thing!!!! Johnny Sanchez is in my top 5 favorite restaurants of all time.
Farrah Graves Purifoy
The food is soooo good here. Just walked by and wanted something a little different for dinner. So glad I stopped here. The meatball taco is AWESOME and the service was AWESOME too! A must visit when in NOLA.
Gabriela Nino de Rivera
Nice place with Mexican inspired ingredients. The menu had unique ideas like the cauliflower taco. I had that one and the huitlacoche empanadas with a drink called Agua morada (or something like that). The service was great.
If you are looking for traditional mexican food, this might not be the place for you. That's why I'm giving 3 stars to the restaurant.
Drew F
Our reservation with OpenTable went off without a hitch. All the staff are very attentive, knowledgeable, and super friendly. Drinks are perfectly balanced. Food tastes amazing and is reasonably priced. Decor is a whimsical mix of modern industrial and bold eclectic, without feeling pretentious. This restaurant is truly a testament to its proprietor. Bravo Chef Sanchez.
Sam Morse
Amazing, scratch-made food that is true Mexican cuisine, not Tex-Mex. The waitstaff was great and the decor is quite classy.
Saint Dávila
New spin or twist on Mexican food not bad
Amy C
Our sever was super nice. Food was ok. After spending a week in New Orleans this was probably my least favorite of the trip.
Steven Molina
I mean I walked in walked to the bar and drank tequila how can that go wrong at any given moment batistas where great and service was quick even when it was a bit packed due to a Saints game ending at that time!!
Brieanne Lacaillade
Home of the Top Taco award-winning cauliflower tacos! Mexican with creative flare, this place goes all the way. For vegetarians, there are vegetarian beans, several veggie apps, and many vegetarian salads and entrees. The brussel sprouts are one of my favs, the guac is always a winner, and the black bean soup was perfect on a cold night. Omnivores, get the meatball taco. It’s a hit among friends (I haven’t personally had it). This is a really cute date spot but is family friendly (even with a full bar)! Check it out and enjoy.
Maurehna Bromfield
You have to eat here!!! Exceptionally amazing. Everything was excellent I enjoyed the atmosphere, met the owner/chef. Will Always eat here while I'm in New Orleans
Kelly Ball
Food was amazing! Guacamole and tacos were great! Hope to visit again!
Tina Chen
The drinks are incredibly strong…And cheap during happy hour!! They do have a real solid house margarita, smooth and sweet frozen marg, and 2 x $2 tacos, what else can you ask for?! (My favorite was the meatball one, cauliflower was a little oily for my taste and could have been more seasoned.) Always a fun spot to sit, sip and watch the activities outside.
Abhinav Ananthula
Wow what a place at the heart of the city. Visited multiple time and never got disappointed. The food is excellent and even the ambience is extraordinary. The only concern is sometimes you might end up not finding a table or waiting long time.
Megan Jones
Crawfish toast special was amazing! Good recommendation from waitstaff. Blackberry mojito and guacamole also delicious!
nikki intine
This is a food experience, not just a meal. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and made fantastic recommendations. We tried food and drinks we have never had before and each plate, each bite, each sip was fantastic. A must do when you are in New Orleans
efrain quiroz
The food is fantastic but nothing original taste like regular Mexican food. Still really good food I little pricey but good.
Andrea Littlefield
This did not disappoint! Delicious food. Waitstaff was helpful. Went during happy hour and got $1 chips and dip and 1/2 price drinks.
Perry Rodriguez
I ordered the guac with tortilla chips and plantains to start and the Carnitas Burrito for my main.
Perfect plantains. Beautiful main plate. The taste was just okay. Good, but I wouldn't order it again.
Every interaction with the server was awkward.
Keilon Johnson
Great bartender! Happy hour had premium liquor appetizers were nice.
Donna Roper
While on vacation, our Girls Trip Part 2 enjoyed an evening of Happy Hour drinks and food! Great time we had!!!
Michael Calore
This place is amazing. Decor is brilliantly casual. Best margarita I've ever had. Queso is to die for, and you have to try the Albagondas Tacos. Will definitely fly back for this experience.
Courtney Jones
Delicious food and friendly service!! Thank you! Was headed to another restaurant but it was closed and this place saved me from the rain and I'm happy it did!
Yokesh R
Our first trip to New Orleans and it was for Mardi gras. A super busy and frustrating day in traffic ended with a great dinner ☺️ A really good Mexican food. The chicken dish was so delicious. The sweet corn appetizer was too good. Finished it off with one of the best creme brulee I have had 😋 …
Alex Nic
Very classy vibes. Only got some finger food (guacamole and queso) but was some of the best I'd had. Beautiful marble bar, cool tattoo art on the wall, nice open space. Like that they had both corn tortilla chips and plantain chips. Looking forward to coming back for a full meal.
Michal Smith
The place is very live at night. I had a chicken quesadilla and the queso. I thought the queso was just cheese but it had meatballs in it that weren’t the greatest. I LOVED how the quesadilla had fried cheese on top and the homemade tortilla and plantain chips were a plus. Overall it was a great night to eat and have something “different”
Donna Ferrell
So good and fresh. Great place for a casual yet refined Latin food experience. P.S. The best chicken tortilla soup on the planet. ON THE PLANET!!!
Kathleen Quirk
The food was delicious and the restaurant lovely. However, the service was lackluster and the restrooms were unacceptably dirty.
Matthew Katchem
My favorite neighborhood bar and grill. Wait! I'm not even from here but they make you feel right at home. Ask for Marisol or Kaitlyn at the bar and I recommend the house margaritas with Grand Marinier floater.
Randy Thomas
The staff was awesome! The atmosphere was amazing not to mention the food! Yellowtail ceviche gave me a foodgasm!
Rex Michael Dillon
Lots of great dishes and drinks. My favorite taco? Cauliflower!! It will knock you out! So good!!
Joe Rodriguez
Always great food. I go everytime I visit NOLA. I still have to meet the big Boss Mr. Sanchez. One day I hope he's there when I'm having lunch.
James Nguyen
Good food and service! We had a large group and they were great to us
Tracy Michele
Never been disappointed with anything here....street corn, fried plantain chips with housemade salsa, award winner grandmothers meatball taco and fried catfish taco
Royce Sparks
An all around great experience. The tacos were great, the meatballs were perfectly cooked, and that street corn...wow. I had been wanting to eat here for a few years now, so even with high expectations this place came through.
James Evans
The burritos were awesome. Also the margaritas were awesome as well. We will be back.
Amber Bordelon
My husband and I came to New Orleans for Jazz Fest, and we wanted to stop here because we love Aaron Sanchez.. we were blown away by how beautiful and clean the restaurant was. The food is on a whole other level! By FAR the best queso, salsa and Mexican food I've ever had in my life! Absolutely will be back next time we are in New Orleans.
Kevin Bladsacker
Great place to stop for happy hour treats. The queso dip isn't just heated Velveeta. The bar staff is top notch and professional. All the servers are just as.good. the menu is not yo6u chain restaurant quality. They have great recipes and they cook.
Neew Parker
Food & drinks was delicious
Braswell Tiffany
I went once and got the Adios burger and it was delicious. I went again and got it to go and was disappointed. I didn't get my queso to dip my fries and I can't have jalapeños so I asked for no jalapeños on my burger and instead I got no pickles and plenty of jalapeños. It was sad because this was $20 wasted.
Courtney Prier
Enjoyed the food and the drinks were great. Decor was great and atmosphere was outstanding.
Mo Aziz
Only did drinks here, but the margs were pretty good. Staff was very friendly and the service was quick.
Coni Dubois
1st time eating here~ Beautiful restaurant! Food EXCELLENT! Waiter was awesome! Will be returning soon~ A MUST visit if ever in New Orleans!
KaCey Roberts
The food was incredible the atmosphere was enjoyable got an autograph cookbook thoroughly enjoyed it all the way I highly recommend his Sangria
Jonas Varela
Great food full of flavor, great variety and the people they really take care of you. If you see that there is a waiting time is because they are soooo good. A++
Michelle Butler
Happy hour was bomb! 3 dollar tacos. Those tasty morsels of yummy goodness paired with half price specialty margaritas and excellent customer service got my weekend started right.
Connie Kline
Fresh food, tasty drinks & cool decor. Really enjoyed the Market Salad with grilled shrimp.
Lisa E McKim
Well...I just adore Aaron Sanchez...I've been watching him for years on Food Network (Chopped) as well as on Master Chef. That said, I was pretty disappointed with my experience at Johnny Sanchez. I loved the atmosphere - beautiful decor, vibrant feeling, cool art and chandeliers. Unfortunately, the food left a lot to be desired. The guacamole was pretty ordinary, salsa was good, but not spicy at all. Service was a bit slow, but the servers were very friendly, so it wasn't that big of a deal. The best thing I had was an Albondigas Taco - WOW! It's Aaron's Grandmother's recipe, and it's out of this world. Hands down, the worst part of my experience was that the ladies room was disgusting. It was REALLY dirty, with very little toilet tissue and, literally, the paper towel baskets were all empty - there were only about 3 towels left, of which I used 1. Also, several rolls of toilet tissue were strewn about in the stalls and on the floor. I think it speaks poorly of any establishment, but especially a restaurant, when the facilities are not maintained. Don't think I'd come back for food, but maybe for a visit at the bar.
Michael Fritze
amazing. I never heard of this guy and my wife has seen him on TV so we decided to try it. the food was incred. flavorful and down right delicious. the staff was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. greT place and we will be back next time we are in NOLA.
Kelly
I visited Johnny Sanchez for the first time although I'd heard about it years ago. It was well worth the wait. The food was fresh and delicious and the service was awesome. Nice vibe, great atmosphere; I definitely recommend placing Johnny Sanchez on your list of places to try when visiting New Orleans for authentic Mexican cuisine, or on your list of favorite places to frequent when eating out.
Bobby EnLoe
Great service, great food. Plantain chips are so good, and salsa is great
Madeline Chenevert
The happy hour is a really great time. The staff was friendly, the cauliflower tacos were awesome, and I would drink the salsa from a fountain if that were a serving size option. Check it out if you're nearby.
Vic Pinto
I got a parking ticket while here 😡
But the food was delicious lol …
T (Nolagal)
So.. service was a bit slow to start, once she was able to stop on service bar. She acknowledged my wait which I great appreciated! Offered suggestions of food and didnt miss! The brussels, corn and burger were delicious but too much salt on the fries and the finishing bites of the burger. Overall good, close to hotels.
Nikki Newton
Modern taco joint in New Orleans. Hand painted walls and unique tacos with strong margaritas. The staff was friendly and quick.
Eric Valdes
Visiting on business our team stumbled on this place. We were done with Cajun Food. Honestly we have a lot of great Mexican restaurants back in Miami FL where we are from but this place was awesome. I want this place in Miami!!! We all loved it. Will be back again.
Michele Lopez
Over-rated. The rice wasn't fully cooked. Overall it had decent flavor, but I think I would have enjoyed it more if my rice wasn't crunchy.
Gil Werta
The food looks good... though it was very oily and the flavors were very flat...
Wouldn’t call it Mexican Food..
Laura Ortega
The food is super delucious and I love the atmosphere! Also, freaking awesome margaritas!
Jill Ross
Super great everything!!! We had the quesadilla with shrimp and chicken burrito
Nice portions and very reasonable prices. Friendly atmosphere and prompt service. We were privelaged to meet Aaron Sanchez and he is just as cool, chill and friendly as we suspected.
Madison M
very overpriced… $8 for a small street style taco.. LMAO
if you’re here I would reccomend the meatball and cauliflower taco during happy hour. avoid the carnitas taco, very dry
Virginia Zamora
Pl need one In waco texas I even work for you I been cooking for over 45 yeras
Glen Doty
Head and shoulders above anywhere else we've been in this category. Nothing simple about the flavours in these simple dishes. Details like the sturdiness of the tortillas, or how clean the slices of jalapeno were stuck out for me. Everything we tried was terrific. My wife said that if we were to be in town a week, she would eat here at least twice. Service was great, room modern and cool, great visit!
David Triplett
Solid food in a modern and colorful space. It is incredibly loud inside when busy, which makes it very difficult to converse with your party. While the food was good, the noise makes me unlikely to visit again.
Aaron Keegan
Family had lunch there today. The best and most flavorful food we have had in quite some time. We have five different palates and we all individually LOVED our dishes. We were welcomed in as soon as we entered and our food was ready in a short amount of time. Aaron Sanchez even came out and thanked us for coming in and asked how things were. My daughter who loves him from the Food Network was star struck. Highly recommend this restaurant. Great job!!
Mateusz Gołębiewski
Pretty tasty skirt steak and nice service.
Alyssa Carter
We went during happy hour on Monday to avoid the dinner rush and were seated quickly. The atmosphere is inviting and cool. We opted to sit at the bar. My tried beer, a bloody mary and two margaritas on the rocks. The margarita is wonderful. Very refreshing and they use juices instead of a mix which is the way to go.
Micki Kirkland
My third visit to New Orleans and Johnny Sanchez Restaurant is always on my list of must visit. I was able to dine in on my first night and order take out a few days later. Great food and service both ways.
Brandy Kelley
Service was great. The guacamole on top of my burrito was amazing, but there was not enough of it for a burrito this size. The plantain chips were interesting, and I liked them. Would have been nice if the chips were warm though. Also, never been to a restaurant of this cuisine where salsa and chips weren’t complimentary. Their version of “key lime pie” was outstanding in flavor…an amazing tart lime flavor.
Alyssa Chelette
My husband and I visit New Orleans often and was looking for something other than a menu dripping with shrimp options. This restaurant exceeded our expectations! EVERYTHING we ordered was beyond delicious. The margarita was soooo good. The meatball taco... made me want to slap my mama. Also ordered fajitas, some of the best I’ve ever had, and the street corn. Wow, the street corn! There’s just very few Latin/Mexican restaurants that are more upscale than casual. This place is the place! The staff was attentive and had such a positive attitude. Will be visiting again! Want to explore the dessert menu next time.
Jim Martin
Came in during happy hour for two dollar tacos and half price drinks. An excellent deal for food this good. The margaritas were on point, strong yet balanced. The tacos were fresh and flavorful ( I think I could eat the marinated onions they were dressed with by the spoonful). Atmosphere and service were both great as well. Recommended!
Kevin Beckman
I was hoping for more of a fine-dining experience, being that this is Aaron Sánchez's restaurant, but that's not the case. It's white-washed, American Mexican cuisine. It's not bad, but its definitely not authentic Mexican food.
John Rivera
Loved it big fan of Johnny Sanchez didn't disappoint!
Joshua Alicea
Food was great. Happy hour was even better. Great vibe to the restaurant and glad we came in to try it out. Will definitely come back on my next visit to try out some more dishes.
Daniel Vargas
The Chicken mole was good. It’s a very modern Mexican restaurant. Best time is during the weekdays afternoon. Better prices 😁 …
Charles Leffingwell
The tacos are great, the rice and beans are seasoned perfectly but unfortunately 2 people in my group ordered fajitas one chicken and one steak and both were burnt. So every bite for my wife and her brother were overwhelmed with the taste of char.
Sonja Wright
I love watching Johnny Sanchez on Chopped, so I had to check out his namesake while in New Orleans. We stopped in during happy hour and was blown away by the uniqueness of the food selection and the awesome margaritas. I ordered the Johnny Sanchez Margarita and was in love at first sip! It was made with freshly squeezed limes and lemons. Not too sweet nor too tart. Just right! The salsa and chips were free and good as well! The winners of the day were the tacos. So fresh and full of bright flavors! To top it off, the service was outstanding!! I highly recommend this restaurant!
Kris Paulk
Loved it.
I love Mexican food, and my Missus loves Arron Sanchez, so it was a win-win.
She and I went for a late lunch and it just happened to be happy hour... woot! Half priced tacos, cocktails and draft beer. I was planning on getting tacos anyway, so it was game on.
We started with the crispy brussel sprouts from the appetizer list. Oh Me, Oh My. Those things are dangerous. Fried brussel sprouts with cheese and sweet and spicy pickled peppers. I probably could have eaten a five gallon bucket of those.
Again, seeing as it was happy hour, I indulged in the pineapple jalapeno Mezcal margarita. Definitely worth it. Sweet, Tangy, smokey and all around delicious
I had for my meal a sampling of the tacos. Carne asada, the pescado fish taco with Des Allemands catfish, and the pork carnitas tacos. All three were very tasty in their own separate ways, but if I'm honest, the Highlight was the carne asada. The beef was extremely flavorful, the pico de gallo fresh, and the jalapenos spicy was a nice acidity. The Mexican street corn was also tasty as all get-out. Full of good sweet corn flavor and creamy cheesiness.
Friendly staff and cool decor, and conveniently located on Poydras.
Definitely worth stopping in and having a well prepared, tasty meal or cocktail (or two)
Mandi Hale
Love this place. The staff, management, welcoming hospitality and amazingly, freshly made food. Very authentic, drinks were refreshingly delicious and complaints the food. Never knew brussel sprouts could taste so heavenly. Unique taco options in the menu, don't be nervous to venture off your normal path. You can taste the love and dedication to the business and culture.
Chelsea M Walsh
A wonderful experience all around! The restaurant is beautiful. The food was excellent. Our server was the best. We had $2 tacos and several apps including the Brussels sprouts, which is a must try! Couldn't beat the happy hour specials for drinks either. Erefaka was our server and was by far the best server I've had in a long time. We loved her comforting and genuine personality and she took several extra steps to ensure we will come back. We will be back!
Chris H
The Chili Colorado Enchiladas was life changing!
Garrick McKendall
A little pricier than expected, but the taste and quality more than made up for that. Go during happy hour and your pockets won't take too much of a hit.
Richard O'Neill
Really good service and good. The cauliflower tacos were very good.

Great food and ambience. Everything we ordered was delicious, especially the street corn. The qeso dip we ordered came with crispy fried plantains as well as tortilla chips. Quite tasty.
Three tacos I ordered were small, but overstuffed. Both were delicious, but I preferred the meatball taco over the fried catfish taco.

Great food, atmosphere, and staff! Can't wait to go back

We loved all our food! I am picky when it comes to restaurant food. This was delicious, fresh, and full of flavor. The salsa was excellent, and the octopus tostada was bursting with different tastes. We tried 4 different tacos and loved them all. House margarita was eh. Cool ambiance too. I wish they had this restaurant in Virginia.
Randall Ashley
I had a lot of food in NOLA this week as my wife and I were on vacation. One of the dishes that stood out the most to me was the craw fish enchiladas. While there were multiple ingredients, none of the flavors really seemed muddled. You could even taste the corn in the tortillas. The tortillas they make in house were excellent and even used for their chips. You could actually taste the masa and not just the oil like so many other places. We came on a weekday afternoon so it was slow. The atmosphere was tasteful and colorful. I liked that they had regional twists on classic Mexican dishes. I will definitely come back.
Cassandra Smith
Had the most memorable anniversary experience here. Service was top notch. Food was incredible - even the chef came out to check on us. We came to NOLA from Seattle for a special occasion and did not disappoint. Everything on the menu is worth trying!
Mathu Sundaramoorthy
The food was delicious however the wait was a little too long. Ambiance was also fantastic. Service was also really good. The appetizers and the chips and salsa were magnificent. This restaurant would have gotten a five-star if not for the long delay between the appetizer and the entree.
Thomas Sees
The food was excellent, very flavorful and presented very well. The atmosphere, however, was not as nice. We were seated promptly after arriving. The waitress took quite a while to attend to us. We ordered right away, as we had plenty of time to choose what we wanted prior to the waitress making contact. The food took a long time coming from the kitchen, but it was a busy night so the kitchen may have been backed up. After we were finished, it was a very long time before our waitress delivered the check. It was rather annoying to say the least.
The restaurant itself is very clean and modern. The volume level is extreme though. It is impossible to have a quiet conversation over the sound of the other patrons as well as the music being played.
Joan Greer
Food was wonderful, we were there for lunch on a Friday and service was very attentive and helpful.
Chris Walden
The food here was amazing! A smaller menu than I'm used to seeing, but that just made it easier to decide what to get. I had the black bean soup (which was a puree), and it may have been the best I've ever had! Also got the empanadas which were mouth watering delish. Hubby had the enchilada which he loved as well. Not a bite of food left on our plates! Margarita pitchers were half off and did not disappoint.

Johnny Sanchez was on the "must go to" list for our visit to NOLA. Our 2nd day here and hands down the best meal we had. Stopped in for $2 Taco happy hour and everything was amazing! Our server Morgan was great! The best guacamole I've ever had and the Sanchez margarita was delicious! Also the decor is fabulous! I highly recommend it!
Candace McGowan
Went here early on a Friday for happy hour and loved every bite! Ordered the tacos and the burrito and everything was delicious. The cocktails were also amazing, perfectly balanced and potent. Definitely recommend checking this place out. I've been trying to get around to going here for a while and it was definitely worth the wait. Looking forward to coming back again! Service was a bit slow, but friendly.
Elisa Almond
I've been to NOLA only twice, for a couple days each but had to come to Johnny Sánchez twice! The food is amazing, best salsa I've ever had, and the service was impeccable each time. Had lunch first time then dinner a few months later when I was back, and both times I had the best dining experience. To my surprise, even the ice cream is to die for. I'm currently looking for ways to have it shipped to NJ! We tried almost every dish. Hope you take the time to go, you won't be disappointed!
John Strange
Long wait made worthwhile by my son (he's a HUGE fan of MasterChef) meeting Aaron Sanchez, who was extremely gracious and spent lots of time talking about jobs in the food business. By the way, the food was superb.
Perry Mendenall
Fantastic, best Mexican restaurant I've been to probably ever. Service and food were top notch.
PAMELA Owens
Went There For Happy Hour For The $2 Tacos and 1/2 Off drinks. The catfish taco and meatball taco were awesome. Fresh guacamole and great margaritas that are handmade, no mix. Service was a bit slow, but staff was friendly and wonderful atmosphere.
Bobby Jones
This Gourmet Mexican restaurant has really good food, portions are small, and price is super expensive. Cocktails and Beer selection are good. Service is great. This place is definitely a date night or celebratory type of place, cause for about $100 (including the tip) for 2, and the amount of food we actually got, I probably wont be going back, unless I win the lottery.
Travelin Unicorn
Authentic and fresh food. My favorite was the shrimp tacos. Everything was extremely enjoyable. Loved the 2 for $2 jellow shots. Service was fantastic! Thank you, Lizzy and Yohan! Just know that it's a little pricey but worth it.
Collins Sigler
Johnny Sanchez was a great experience. Their plantain chips and queso dip were pretty dang good. Margaritas we're solid although they were small and expensive. The meatball taco was by far my favorite. The carne asada was a little cold and wasn't the best. Other than that great Mexican inspired food.
Alexandra Zielinski
Very nice staff. Super appetizers and good margaritas. Unfortunately for some reason both of our fajita platters - beef and tempura shrimp were beyond mouth puckering salty. Our server said she was sorry to hear that and would tell the kitchen. Hopefully that was a one off.
Brenna Rastrelli
The food was delicious! Loved the guacamole & chorizo starters which came fairly quickly. Our group got several tacos of different types, which were all very good and a burrito. The only problem was that we waited almost an hour between the starters & our meal.
Patrice Stewart
Had to visit Aaron Sanchez's restaurant! Food and drinks were great!
Nelton Bourque
Awesome food...Hamburger and chicken sandwich and frirs were incredible...
Khi Mullins
I normally don't do reviews unless I've had a really bad experience. This place was so amazing I figured I'd do one. Don't listen to the bad reviews this place is amazing.
Went during happy hour for the $2 Tacos and half priced drinks and EVERYTHING was great! Service was great. Got seated immediately. Girlfriend loved the atmosphere. Surprisingly it was crowded at all. This place is definitely one of the city's hidden gems.
The chips/plantains was sooo good. You may need to add some hot sauce to the salsa if you like your food spicy like myself. We ordered 4 tacos queso dip and 2 drinks for $29. Def worth it!! I'm so mad I only to experience this greatness once. Definitely a must have!!
Jonathan Palmer
Really good food. Unique taco options that can be fixed and matched. Starters were fantastic as well. Mexican street corn was a surprise as it came off the cob in a bowl, but flavor was exceptional! Enjoyed the whole experience.
Mrs. Owens1
Tacos served were street taco size tacos. You cannot customize to our personal liking. Served pickled jalapeños verses fresh.
Drinks stated premium tequila it was subpar.
Pamela Mcelyea
Every item my husband and I ordered was bursting with flavor combinations that could only be described as amazing. The decor was gorgeous and the staff was attentive in every way. I couldn't have asked for a more enjoyable restaurant experience and it will definitely become one of our regular outings in New Orleans
Shamin Shukla
Best enchiladas I ever had, and I live in Houston!
George “Homeslice” M.
Meh. Food was ok, service could have been better. Not what I would call kid-friendly in that requests for small changes to the menu items to satisfy picky kids was not met with joy. Also a little expensive, in my opinion, for what you get. I don't expect tacos to cost $5 for something no bigger than my palm and with only pink pickled onion and meat on a flour tortilla. Still, the salsa and plantain chips and cheese dip were tasty, though sparing in their portion sizes. We eat lots of tex-mex where I live, and this was different. My wife had the advertised signature mixed drink. It was $10 for a small glass and she thought it tasted like Mt. Dew. This might be your kind of place, but not likely ours again.
Christopher Ward
Holy cow, all I had was the happy hour tacos and I was floored. The catfish one was one of the best things I've eaten, simple, excellent texture and taste, the pork one was crispy and amazing, the meatball one was different and interesting, good but not as good as the first two, and the chicken one was the only one that didn't impress, it was chicken like most Mexican restaurants, the other tacos were so good that it more than made up for one mediocre one.
Robert Castelli
Place is spectacular
The food is on par with a lot of unique places to eat with very healthy food options A+
Caleb
We made a reservation at Johnny Sanchez while we were visiting New Orleans. We had to delay a bit while waiting for another part of our party, but the service was accommodating, professional, and quick. The appetizers and food were delicious. The place was relaxing and had an upbeat and friendly atmosphere. I would recommend a visit!
ANGELIA CRADDOLPH
The Pescado taco was fantastic! My husband had the burrito and it was great too.
Their chips & salsa were light and fresh not watery.
Street corn was slap yo mama good! Okay, not yo mama, maybe your knee.
Elle
The cauliflower tacos made me want to become a vegetarian. Great flavor combinations. Fantastic, fast service. Comfortable seating.
Debra C
Absolutely loved our food at Johnny Sanchez! We shared four different tacos and chips and salsa on the way to the Saints game. Our service was excellent and the ambience was great. Would have loved to stay for a full meal but our small plates did not disappoint!
Mark Drabik
Travelled from Omaha Nebraska to try this restaurant out! I was hoping to meet Aaron but not everything in life works out! We had the shrimp burger and shrimp quesadilla along with the Carne Asada tacos. All of the food was on point and really good! Best tacos I have ever had!! The inside was gorgeous! Maybe next time Aaron will be in town!!!
Eleazar Gutierrez
Was initially very excited to come and eat here . Made reservations, showed up , got to our table and that’s where the fun began . We sat for a good thirty mins before we even got water and then another fifteen to have our order taken . It seemed like the staff had some internal issues as I could tell they only had a couple of waiters for such a busy time and no one knew what section they were covering . The food came out and was pretty good but can be heavy or covered in too much sauce depending on what you get . The duck enchiladas were great but they left them in the oven to long and the edges of the tortillas got rock hard and crispy .
Tattoo
I came here with my wife and two adult sons. We had high hopes for some great food and left disappointed. We're tried all the tacos on the menu along with fried brussel sprouts and guacamole. The high lite was the meatball taco and the guacamole. Don't eat Mexican in New Orleans sick with the local foods.
Crystal Castillo
Food was amazing. I tried multiple tacos and although I loved them all, my favorite was the shrimp tacos... I'd order 3 of those next time instead of trying others. Quesadilla was super tasty too. Good luck trying not to fill up on their plantain chips and queso.
Christine C.
Delicious food, dishes are also visually appealing, and the bartender knows her way around a great margarita! It was a very good lunch time experience, and I recommend it. I will go there again on a Monday, so that I can try the chicken mole!😋😋😋😋😋😋😋 …
Gabriel Niculescu
Really great place. The food was great and the serving was fast. I got the Market Salad and the portion was more than satisfying. Also, the baked chips and salsa they provide as snacks before the meal were very good. The prices were good in relation to the food quality and quantity
Dana M
Oh my goodness!!!
I love Aaron Sanchez from Master Chef and needed to try one of his restaurants, so today we did. The oyster taco was the most amazing taco that I have ever had. It was the perfect bite, I did t want it to end!!
I will be going back!!!
The opportunity side-There were 4 lightbulbs out throughout the restaurant, the bathroom needed attention and the hostess didn’t say goodbye, she didn’t even acknowledge us when we left.
The food was simply amazing but whoever manages this location has to address some things.
Jeanne Arnoult
The fish taco and pulled pork taco were so damn delicious. The brussel sprouts were the best I've had. The margaritas were yum as well.
Kelsey
Food was pretty good and flavorful. Pork carnitas were dry though.. only thing I would say is the bathrooms were gross and dirty and no toilet paper and my husband said the men’s bathroom was water city on the floor.
Omar Almodovar
Excellent meal! The guac and salsa are next level. My fiancé and I had a selection of tacos. Amazing! The albóndigas taco was probably the best taco I have had in my life. Oh, and Chef Sanchez was there and came by to say hello and chat for a moment. If you are in the area. You must visit. Period.
August Favaroth III
Really good food! Went during lunch with my family. Enjoyed fresh guacamole w/tortillas & plantains to dip with. Entrees were good too. I tried the duck enchiladas. Tasty! Overall service was good as well as prices. I'd eat there again.
Belinda Ramos
A really cool twist to Mexican food. The chapulines were 👌🏽 …
C Evans
Overall three stars, due to the cleanliness, service, price, and food as a whole. Food alone was good! Service was not bad but not great. Waitress was slow at bringing drinks, salsa and chips... another table that was sat 10 minutes after we sat down, received theirs before us. Cleanliness, it wasn’t dirty but could use some more attention! I was surprised considering the standard the owner portrays. I certainly wouldn’t go there again.
Jennifer C
The food was good. The service was slow. We went for happy hour and got all the $2 tacos plus paid full price for the cauliflower taco. Also ordered the brussel sprouts and queso dip. The brussel sprouts were drowning in oil and being pregnant this made me gag. The dip was good, but $10 is a bit steep for a little bowl of cheese sauce. The free salsa and chips were really good though.
JOSHV PR
The highest quality that can be found for tacos. All ingredients taste fresh. Good room in the tables. Can go with kids. Be aware there is no parking spot.
Albert Garcia
Johnny Sanchez margarita was tasty, had three tacos. One was the spicy chicken, it was tasty and crunchy, not spicy though. One was the meatball, I'd highly recommend, next time I'll just get two of the meatball tacos, elote was real good and the complimentary chips had plantain chips mixed in which were delicious.
Adriana Flores
The best gourmet Tacos a Mexican got, they are not your every day. I got one of each happy hour taco special and omg I thought it was going to be little food they were more than enough barely finish them.
I like that they give you water right away without asking and they give you a pitcher with water. I think that is very friendly.
The happy hour is from 3-6. JS margaritas are well balance and delicious.
Reservation is strongly advised but not necessary during week days.
I'm coming back. Traveled from South Texas to NOLA for Mardi Grass the restaurant is awesomely located 3 blocks from Lafayette park.
michael stoy
Delicious food. Small menu allows for expertise in what they do make. Little pricy by my standards though.
Rosie
Food was good. I was surprised that the restaurant didn't have more people in it, it made the overall vibe more casual and less sit-down. Service was good.
Nathan
I went to Johnny Sanchez for Taco Tuesday. They have a special menu of four tacos to choose from for $2 each. I tried all four. The spicy chicken was my favorite: deep fried and dripping with sauce. The grilled pork was a close second. Don't miss out. This is a great deal. Be warned, they make up for it on eye-watering drink prices.
Darrell Benko
The ambiance is nice, beautiful restaurant. The skirt steak was terrific as were the empanadas. I do not recommend the brussel sprouts (they are basically salt balls) or the duck enchiladas (molten cheese burned to the plate). This is a great place for a quick bite and a nice drink after work but wouldnt make it a staple.
Mark McGuire
While Johnny Sanchez is a great looking place to be seen, his restaurant did not live up to the hype of enjoying authentic Mexican dishes with a modern twist. We went to this restaurant because my friend from El Paso (same hometown as the chef).
It's more of a place to be seen than a place to enjoy Mexican food. In additon, our experience was not the greatest. Granted the food itself was very tasty but the experience was largely due to the front-room staff. Even I had to clean the chairs for our table before sitting down.
Needless to say, we were not interested in coming back. Otherwise, this might be a four-star review.
Brandy DeLeon
Food was great. Unfortunately service was not the best. Website states that there are no reservations. Our party waited for nearly 2 hours and was seated after another large party who called in for a reservation?
Annie M
Fantastic food. Definitely try everything! They start your experience with wonderful plantain chips and house salsa. That's worth the visit, alone. Our group ordered the guacamole to share, as well. The carne asada tacos are excellent. But the albondigas taco really steals the show. I should have ordered two!
the greatest ever
Very nice decor, their menu was a bit upscale for me. Not really into cauliflower tacos and Mexican Coca Cola. We just had chips and queso. It as good and the waitress was very nice.
Beth Higgins
I had the big salad with steak and it was delicious. I thought it was very loud and we couldn't really hear each other talk. The happy hour special was good. The rest of the food is a bit pricey for what you get.
Joy Kirkpatrick
Guacamole was delicious, happy hour prices were great.
Bobby Jinkins
The queso and plantain chips were awesome, spicy and flavorful without being too hot. Empanadas were fried golden brown and their sauce was the perfect complement. Quesadilla was fantastic! I had the cauliflower, oyster, and meatball tacos. They were all so good that I couldn't tell you which one was my favorite. Dessert was peaches and cream ice cream from the Creole Creamery. Service was excellent, attentive without being intrusive. All in all, an exceptional experience.
Nazary Nebeluk
I can't remember that last restaurant I was in that was as much "fun" as Johnny Sanchez. From walking in to leaving I had a smile on my face and the staff genuinely seemed happy to see us. The decor here is great and the servers are friendly. We managed to sneak in for happy hour - so maybe I'm a little biased compared to someone paying full price - but we had a great time. Our party of four split a pitcher of margaritas (which were delicious - I'm not a big fan of margaritas but these were really good, not too sour and not too sweet) and some tacos along with a guacamole and queso dip. We also ordered Crispy Louisiana Shrimp Fajita platter.
The happy hour tacos and guacamole/queso dip were good but the Shrimp platter blew them away. It was so good. The shrimp were perfectly fried and came with a delicious slaw and dipping sauce. I would have been happy if I got just the first part of my order mind you - but the shrimp really put a smile on my face.
I'll be sure to return soon for happy hour tacos and margs - and when I'm feeling indulgent I'll get myself a shrimp platter.
Jeremy LaBorde
Gourmet tacos! So many wonderful flavors in each item that I was disappointed I couldn't indulge more. CEVICHE!!! OMG, the BEST I've ever tasted!! I didn't love sitting so close to other people but only because the chick that was next to me was so damn loud I could not have a conversation. Romantic food but not a romantic scene.
Danny Wimbish
Food was very delicious. Unique flavors and textures with perfect seasoning. Service was good and price is reasonable. Atmosphere is warm and inviting, with unique decor. Staff is friendly and helpful. Will go again.
Saleh Babazadeh
Great Mexican restaurant. We were a big group. It's safe to reserve the table especially during the weekend. Food is great. They have platters which is more than enough if you aren't that big eater. Burritos are big and tastey. The shrimp platter was very good. We had it with Brussels sprout it was more ththan enough for two people. Children and rice also was tastey. Drinks were good and reasonably priced. The place is wheelchair accessible. We definitely will go back there.
Jon Leon
Food was a modern interpretation of typical mexican dishes. I had the empanadas as the starter, my wife order 3 tacos which looked small but we had a hard time to finish them surprisingly and I eat like a cow, I ordered the arroz con pollo and it had a crunchy rice texture which I found out was from floured and deep fried rice. Was really good and while I loved the food all around. I dont eat out but maybe once a month. I do recommend to try this place as the sevice was good and the food was better. Quality ingredients and nice atmosphere.
Virginia Robinson
I loved this restaurant. Small comfortable atmosphere. Staff was attentive and friendly. Food was delicious.
Sean Craft
As a long time fan of Masterchef I was very excited for the opportunity to eat at Chef Aaron Sanchez's flagship restaurant, and it did not disappoint. Every dish we tried was like a party in your mouth, and the $2 margaritas were an unexpected and delightful treat. Highly recommended 😋 …
Cindy Moss
Sever was amazing. We tired 3 different tacos and they were pricy, but delicious. The burger was okay, just very salty.
Patrick K
Food was delicious interior decor was interesting and trendy. Cauliflower tacos were amazing, but the portion sizes are a little small for the price. I'd rate it closer to a $$$ price rating.
Eljay Koomba
Awesome spot to eat and hang out. Nice big windows for enjoying ones meal and people watching. The corn bowl. The tacos (Carne asada, oyster) very good. Chips and salsa. Chicken flautas had to be the best plate. Overall was very good. Glad we stopped.
Madman Terry
I gave up on Hispanic food long ago, too many ptsd breakdowns for me. But then I was put into a situation where this was the only option to eat at.
Greatest Hispanic food maybe food in general me ever have. A real brother/my waiter hooked me up with his recommendation of the Burrito. I was blown away. I did not stop the momentum of eating until it was gone. I was zoned out from the tables conversation and everything!!! Thanks to my waiter and this restaurant 10/10 5/5 scores don't match the value of there quality!!!!
rubbie romero
This is the best place for taco Tuesday ... especially when you go during happy hour. How can you not love this place. The only concern is the servers. They dont check up on you. Even if they only have 2 tables. But regardless the tacos and margaritas make up for it.
Brian K
Food was amazing. Service was great. I am still amazed how good a burger from a Mexican restaurant was.
Fabiola Almazan Olivar
The food was delicious, fresh and full of flavor. We had the street corn, crispy Louisiana shrip and the NY strip fajitas. We also tasted 3 different salsas and all of them were excellent but my favorite was the tomatillo avocado salsa. The restaurant looks really modern and the service was great. It was the best restaurant in NOLA. Please Aaron Sanchez open one Johnny Sanchez in Providence, RI!! 🙏
Sabine 66
Cool place, great female server. Not my type of food (Mexican) however. I ordered a dish that consisted of grilled chicken with a mole sauce (I got it on the side), rice, refried beans. My husband ordered the same. The side salad that came with the meal was phenomenal ( had I known, I would've ordered an entree size). The chicken did not appear to be breast to me but more of a thigh consistency (color, texture, greasy feel etc) - my husband are mine. The rice was overcooked to my taste, refried beans are refried beans. The place gives you a ton of food. They start off by bringing you fried plantains and nachos with their house version of salsa (very good). You get full quickly. I would recommend to others who enjoy this this type of food.
Jasmin Wagner
The crispy brussel sprouts were wow!
Bob Byrd
Fun friendly atmosphere with great food. They serve excellent dips with chips and crispy plantains. The arroz con pollo was great, and I enjoyed it with some of the queso on it as well. The crawfish enchiladas where the entree my fiance and I enjoyed the most.
Jeremy Markey
Just wow, everything we ate was simply amazing. We brought a party of 8 and we all tried everyone's dishes. I ordered all five tacos and split them with my Dad, I am still not sure which one is my favorite.
The real show stopper was the queso and plantain, I ate so much of this. My diet was totally ruined here!
I decided I needed a shirt, went to put it on a few days later and found a recipe printed inside. I can't wait to make it!
Vesna Aleksic
Went to Johnny Sanchez for lunch and it was excellent. We ordered the Mexican Meatballs appetizer which was plenty for three ladies to share and boy was it flavorful! My lunch entrée was the special of the day Softshell Crabs tacos with a side of Mexican Street Corn both of which were awesome! Can't wait until I eat here again.
Andrew McAuliffe
The shrimp salad was delicious. Great decor, if a little bright.
corey robertson
Johnny Sánchez' was an easy choice, being big fans of Master Chef, and being even bigger fans of Aarón Sánchez! From the hostess greeting, all the way to paying the bill, was nothing less than an exceptional dining experience. Our Server, Eden, not only provided fast and friendly service... she went a step further treated us like family. Amazing food, beyond reproach service and a very cool dining environment!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 💙🤙
Shelley Neel
Delicious food at a reasonable price. We were excited to eat at a famous chef's restaurant.
Randy Satterfield
Great food and knowledgeable staff. But service was slow at times.
Nicholas Whitmire
The atmosphere is quiet and peaceful. The food we had was excellent. The tres leches is probably the best I have ever had.
Keyur Panchal
Amazing food and margaritas!
Gabriel Cuevas
The food is excellent but your bartenders were off during my visit. Silverware was not provided with the meal and then it was forgotten when the bartender said they would get it. Had to ask for it after the bartender eventually walked by again. Waited to pay the bill for at least 15 minutes. I would love to return but not with that kind of service. I got excited about the opportunity to eat at this restaurant and walked away disappointed.
Jmp 123
Fun place. Service was a little up and down, especially since we were a group of four really just grabbing drinks and snacks. Felt a little ignored here and there. They bring the house salsa, chips and plantains from the beginning. Delicious. One person ordered a lengua taco and found it great. They are the little mini tacos that you could order 2-3 different ones to really make a meal. We ordered the queso, guacamole and ceviche for the table. ALL were really good. Only problem was that the ceviche took MUCH longer for some reason, and when the guac and queso were delivered we were already nearly out of dipping material from the salsa (chips, plantains) and no one seemed to notice. We had to hail someone to get more and it seemed like a game of pass the buck for anyone to finally do it. A couple friends were drinking beers, another friend had Mexican Coke, I tried a Mexican Fanta, instead for the first time. (Mexican sodas taste very different as they use real cane sugar and no corn syrup.) Then I ordered a margarita. SO SOUR. More like tequila and straight lime juice that was really sour limes! Not great. Not sure what happened there. It was late afternoon on a Sunday. And they weren't really busy so I'm taking one star for all the little stuff. We'd go back. Maybe try all the tacos!
Matt Catlett
Came with a group of 8 adults, and 3 children. The staff was very warm and inviting and the food was great!! A very nice experience! Chef Aaron even greeted us at our table. We'll be back and I'll certainly recommend to everyone!
Anna Kormanova
Came in on a Saturday night and did not have to wait for a table - overall great quality staff and super yummy food!
(One of the best market salads I have ever had!) Would deff return.
André Raposo
Great looking place. Well located. Staff and service were great. Drinks are good and good alcohol volume. Menu is simple but oh so good. Delicious actually. Fresh and well prepared dishes. Very tasty and flavourful like mexican food should be. Price is very reasonable. Do come. I recommend it highly. The only thing missing was chef Aarón. 😁
James Morgan
Excellent food and beverages. Unfortunately, the young lady serving our table was more interested in personal conversation with co-workers or else this would have been a 5 star rating. All the other staff seemed great and attentive to their customers though. I would still recommend going here.
Imani Marcus
Drinks are AMAZING. Loren/Lauren is an amazing waitress she gave us hugs at the end. As a visitor she was the best waitress I've encountered this visit. Salsa is out of this world and cocktails for brunch are incredible. Hoodoo brew and rosé sangria taking the cake. Can't wait to go back when I come back here. Have already been twice in one weekend.
William Sulzer
Neat trendy Mexican restaurant. Queso Fundido was fantastic, as were the burrito, meatball tacos and tortilla soup we got. House margaritas tasted fresh as well. A little loud due to the flat walls and open floor plan, but not too bad.
Cher Couvillion Wilson
Margarita to die for....$2 tacos did me mighty fine!
Deana Nunez
Happy 50th Birthday to me! I’m so pleased that we chose to come to your restaurant! The food was AWESOME! Albondigas meatballs were AMAZING! We had a sufficient sampling of the menu and every single item was SOOOOOOO GOOOOOOD! The service was good, but our server (who was awesome) tended to go missing for long periods (maybe she was busy?) Anyway, thanks for a great 50th birthday dinner! We’ll be back soon!
michael weingarten
Food was great, some very innovative combinations of flavors. Who would have thought avocado basil ice cream would pair so well with Mexican chocolate. Chefs Aaron Sanchez and John Besh have put together a culinary winner. Food, ambiance and art all come together to make a wonderful experience.
Brian Creely
Looking forward to this dinner for a while. We were greeted at the bar by Aaron Sanchez, that was neat. Cocktails were good, but not great. The service was a little sleepy, and the place was not very busy (Wednesday night). I liked the plantain chips with the salsa. Appetizers were well executed and tasty, especially the tuna ceviche. Entrees were average at best, the carne asada tacos were more like beef jerkey. Flavor was good, but un-chewable. I asked them to replace with pork tacos and they were a little better. A bit pricey, but it is downtown New Orleans. I will probably not go back as there are better places around.
Angela Stephenson
Great atmosphere. Great service. Great taco Tuesday specials. I havent found a dish there that Im over the moon about, but my boyfriend loves everything...especially the quesadillas. I will keep trying. We love the huge windows and location...especially after Pels games.
Bruce Lill
Innovated Mexican food is what we were told. Everything was good and different from anything we had eaten before. The guacamole was good and the only thing that was normal Mexican. My wawa fish was delicious. Go here to have a unique meal that is really tasty.
A Blonde and A Brownie Bakery
Best Street corn and Carne Asada tacos. Loved the plantain chips
Karen Blonder
Excellent meal! Really great flavors in the food. We shared a couple of small plates, all of which were excellent and I had the arroz con pollo which was awesome. Great margaritas. Service was great. Great alternative to creole food in NOLA.
Oscar Martinez
Tasty food , just needs more spicy food options
Heath R
Excellent Mexican cuisine. I had the Carne Asada taco, crispy brussel sprouts, Mexican street corn, green salad with cilantro lime vinaigrette, skirt steak fajitas and the Johnny Sanchez Margarita. Every single item was absolutely delicious.
Travis Gould
This was my second time going here. I only had 3 tacos. The albondigas, the oyster, and the cauliflower. The albondigas was the best. It is made with meatballs that are said to be Aaron Sanchez's grandmother's recipe. They were seasoned perfectly. Because of the large amount of windows at the front of the restaurant the atmosphere is bright and full of natural light. It feels spacious and open, which the design of the interior definitely lends to. The decor is unabashedly Mexican, but with some modern twists. The bar (this is where I was sitting and I was alone) could be dusted a little more thoroughly. It's not horrible, but is one of those details that take a place to the next level, because of its refinement and thoughtfulness. Though I did see two fruit flies. I did not see their source, or their feeding grounds I should say, but they were there. Other than that from all I could see thr place is clean and hygienic. The food is really really good, so take a stop by.

The food and drinks were just amazing! The only "not so positive" feedback is they didn't have any baby changing tables in any of the restrooms. And I think that's an overall NOLA issue. We have been to 10 restaurants so far during our visit and none of them had a changing table for babies. Overall I would still give this place 5 stars as this is one of the top Mexican places we have eaten at and we have been to a couple of hundred so far. I tried the cauliflower tacos and queso fundido, and my husband ordered carne asada and pescado...for drinks we had the Regular and Oaxaca margaritas. Everything was delicious! We like food with a little kick to it. They specially made the hot salsa for us.
Melissa Quezada
Food and service was absolutely amazing. I was disappointed they only offer souvenir t shirts. They need a glass of some sort. That's the only reason I don't give them 5 stars.

Not up to the level of what we have come to expect from restaurants associated with John Besh. Food was OK, not particularly flavorful (odd for Mexican food). Ceviche was very bland. Flautas were good. I told the server I had a corn allergy, my cauliflower taco came out with corn. Asked her to have it remade and she did, it came out with corn again. I was full at that point and they just took it off the bill. The atmosphere was great, very hip. I highly recommend all of the other Besh restaurants, this one not so much.

I was very impressed with the food. Crawfish enchiladas were amazing so was the fajita plate. Even the chips and salsa made me smile. It's a bit pricey for the amount of food but worth it.

The food was tasty and for the price I have no complaints. But the service and the bartender who took care of us wasn't at all good. The restaurant only had about 3 small tables and the bartender himself only had 2 couples. And yet the bartender prioritized his cell before us. I had to leave my hand in the air while I talked with my date for him to notice us.

Blown away by this place! Every single bite was absolute perfection and service was excellent. I will be back & brining everyone I know! Thank you to Diners, Drive-In’s & Dives for the recommendation! This is a new Orleans gem. A MUST TRY!

Had the duck enchiladas on my recent visit. They were heavy and filling which was good on a chilly day. They lasted me two meals deliciousness. Good food. Good margaritas.

Amazing, Delicious, Incredible, Phenomenal.
I don't know what else to say. We came here for a quick bite before dinner, got some happy hour tacos.
The Albondagas tacos are beyond belief. We also had the chicken and pork, which were also delicious. And the Plantains are delicious with the house salsa and guacamole.
We were talking with our waitress Eden, and she told us of an event in a couple of days in which Aarón Sanchez was having a cooking demonstration and book signing. We had to get tickets, and did. The cooking demonstration was in fact, the Albondagas, which the recipe is not in the book. It was a second amazing evening...
5 days in NOLA and ate twice at Johnny Sánchez. It doesn't get any better than that... besides after the third day I was over Gumbo and Jambalaya.
Evelyn Garcia
I know they can do better. We ordered the ceviche and it didn't have any flavor it was just bland. I honestly thought it would be amazing but it kinda disappointed me, was expecting a lot more flavor on his dishes😭 …

Finally got a chance to stop by. Long time fan of Aaron Sanchez's talent and skill.
Arrived for Happy Hour, seated myself at the bar. The bar tender, Justin, was very cordial. I didn't get to see him perform under pressure but he was very pleasant.
Had the margarita, which was good, but not spectacular. It's a margarita, after all.
I ordered three of their happy hour tacos; the albondigas, carnitas and 'spicy chicken'. Surprisingly the fried chicken taco was the highlight. The chili glaze was spot on perfect.
I was not impressed with the carnitas-the pork was very tender, to the point of melting in mouth, but it was underseasoned and bland. I have no basis of comparison to judge the albondigas against. I've never had it before. The "meatballs" were light on meat, a little too light, and heavy on masa it seemed, and I honestly found myself wondering if Besh was feeding me two buck soggy Hush Puppies.
The house corn and platano chips were fine, and the salsa was pretty good, the flavor was there, but again and like two of their taco offerings out of three I had, it lacked kick-my preference requires much more heat in salsa.
It really hurt, however, that it took seventeen minutes on a two taco ticket to get those first two tacos in an almost empty house on a monday afternoon.
In any case, the food was very edible, if on the bland side for a mexican restaurant. You've earned a once a week regular. Punch it up with your seasoning, though-you're not a hospital kitchen.

I have never had albóndigas in a taco but I would definitely recommend it. The corn tortilla was different but really good. The street corn was perfect. The burrito was full of flavor.

Food was decent, but staff was cold. Hostress led us to our table, but didn't say anything or even crack a smile. Waiter seemed annoyed that we asked if a high chair was available for our 22 month old. He only seemed interested in us come check time. I don't tend to write restaurant reviews and was excitied to this place as an out of towner, but the service left alot to be desired.

Went for happy hour. Tacos were good but not great, but it's hard to beat a $2 taco either way. I'll most likely return to try some regular menu items to see what's really going on in there
Melissa Padilla
Delicious street corn side. Perfect amount for sharing. The duck tostado was crispy and full of flavor. Loved the Brussels sprouts, could have easily just had sides for dinner. Try their cocktail margaritas-Jalisco smash & the mango vanilla margarita. Wow!
Queendaleen Chukwurah
Great food, great service. Would definitely recommend.
Tom Morley
This place is great. They offer a very unique selection of tacos. I would suggest the fish & oyster taco. The margaritas were ok. The layout and design of the restaurant was great. I would recommend this restaurant and come back again.

Fair price. Good food. Friendly staff. Not fancy. Not amazing. But - an OK place for an everyday dinner.
Shannon Johnson
Our tacos were great, as was the quac, the 2 salsas and the Brussel sprouts salad. The only reason it's not 5 stars is because our food came out separately and the salad came way late b/c they ran out and had to get more from another restaurant. They were apologetic but it was weird that they didn't give us the chance to cancel rather than wait. However, our waitress Brandy was super SUPER sweet and went out of her way to double check anything she misunderstood or forgot, which happens to everybody from time to time. I've been in the service industry for 7 years and am pretty picky. She definitely gets 5 stars.
Ronald “Jay” Theriot
Johnny Sanchez is an upscale, beautifully-decorated, contemporary Mexican restaurant. Service was good, and the food was terrific! I ordered the Breakfast Nachos, which was flavorful and big. There is a nice selection of draft and bottled beers. I ordered Pacifico (draft). I would recommend this place and return. RJT

First time here and I was super impressed with the Mexican Cajun fusion. Service was spot on and the Cauliflower Taco won an award for a reason. Possibly best quesadilla I have ever had. Only reason not 5 stars is because it is a bit pricey.
Jo C
Catfish tacos and queso were great, however, not so much on the chicken tacos. I'll probably try it again since the service was pretty fast, friendly and observant. I'll just stick to the seafood tacos.
Jared Jones
The happy hour is fantastic but outside of that, the food is overpriced and uses the name of two megachefs to push sales. I will mention the bar again because they are true masters of their craft and the service is great but I've made better carnitas at home.
Dana K
First time patron! Everything was delicious from the soup, Brussel sprouts, cauliflower tacos and plantains! Reasonable prices for the 5 star quality food. I will go back!!
Jax Robertson
You can never go wrong with Besh. Nor can you go wrong with Mexican food. Not your typical burrito and taco place, the menu selection is varied and delicious. Even the decor is dazzling. No outdoor seating, so bring a wrap.
RJ GJ
The food is delicious, and the service is top-notch. I have to be gluten-free, and my server, who is celiac, was wonderful and informative of which menu options were best. Everything we ordered was excellent. I highly recommend this place for a good place to eat in the CBD, especially for those with gluten intolerance issues.
Jacob B
Delicious food ridiculously fast service great prices
Auburn Huhmann
This place is fabulous. Wonderful, quick, pleasant service. Delicious fresh food. Fun interesting atmosphere. Cool t shirts for sale. Pitchers of margaritas. Everything we wanted and so much more than we expected.
Branimira Ivanova
Best $2 tacos at Happy Hour you've ever had! I promise! I love this place. Never disappoints, non happy hour menu is a bit pricey but super delicious.
Helen Hart
Our go to place when we come to concerts in New Orleans. The food is fantastic especially the street corn. Tha dry stuff is addicting. I love the atmosphere. Will continue to make this our date night spot.
Jess O
Went for their happy hour which was a great deal! The margaritas and tacos were delicious. As well as my friend recommends the burger.
Sarah Kate Corie
So good! Definitely pricey but worth it. Mardi Gras margarita is flawless, the black bean soup is flawless, but I don't recommend the queso fundida because it hardens quickly, and the pescado taco was small and average. Everything else was great, awesome service and cute location!!!
Priyanka Jayadeva
Great food, cool ambience, lots of different options for food and drinks. Def worth a visit!
Plantain chips and salsa is amazing!
P.S: they are vegetarian friendly!

When you think of New Orleans you don't typically think Mexican food, let Johnny Sanchez change that hands down one of the best restaurants I've been to atmosphere is super cool and the Salsa is SLAMMIN' never knew how much I liked plantain chips till I came here. Lunch specials are always good too
jay hog
Consistently good. Salsa is always great. Good service. In the CBD, so prices get a bit inflated, but in a pinch for good food and good service (and really good margs) it's mostly with it.

Had a wonderful brunch experience here. Red and green salsas arrived at the table along with tortilla and plantain chips almost immediately after we sat down. We ordered cocktails and dove into the menu. First came the guacamole, which was good, but there were better things to come. The roasted brussel sprouts with pumpkin, charred jalapeño vinaigrette and cotija was delicious, as was the hamachi tiradito. The only appetizer disappointment were the blue crab tostadas. The crab was fresh and of good quality, but the overall dish was bland and lacked the complexity and interest of the other appetizers. Next came the P&J oyster taco and an order of slow-cooked and then grilled lamb ribs. The oysters were plump and meaty, perfectly fried with a delicious batter. I personally prefer a thinner tortilla and less slaw, especially since the oysters were so good - but overall, solid and tasty taco. The ribs, however, were fall off the bone deliciousness and a wonderful gateway to our final dishes of the day - the Johnny Sanchez Benedict with a side of jalapeno grits. The grits were to die for. Creamy, spicy, incredibly good bowl of comforting goodness. I could eat that one dish for days! They went incredibly well with the beef cheeks in the benedict dish, although, if eaten alone (without the grits or the sopes that they come with), the meat t was a bit oversalted. After all of that, the kitchen felt that we couldn't leave without dessert and surprised us with a masa cake dessert. The sweet, but not overly, corn cake with corn ice cream and citrus fruits was the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. Add to that that the decor was interesting (an eclectic mix of modern and traditional Mexican with a hint of NOLA thrown in) and the service was spot on - attentive without being intrusive, friendly and helpful - and Johnny Sanchez's comes out to be an excellent spot for a very enjoyable weekend brunch.

This is one of the worst restaurants in Nola. It is shocking that it has not closed yet. The food is not any better than chain fast food and the service is even worse than the food. Honestly, there are plenty of taco places in the city that have authentic recipes of which these are not. This has long been a tourist trap in the CBD.
Eva In Trouble
I come here often for happy hour, which features $2 tacos and half off drinks and great service from an ever-attentive staff. Plus, there’s a great selection of Tequilas. I’ve also heard rumor that this place turns into a night club. I have yet to see it.
Léo Talbot
Best mexican I ever eat at! Fair price, great service, like most review suggest you NEED to take the meatball taco, it's like multiple orgasm after each bit... I don't know what they have done to it but it simply amazing!
Betsy Free
This place is amazing!! The food is so authentic and fresh. We tried 3 tacos, the steak, cauliflower and the meatball one. We also tried the chicken burrito, which was amazing!!! I highly recommend this place!!
Tabitha Davis
In my opinion this is upscale Mexican food at decent prices. I love the decor and the bustling environment. The chips and salsa are amazing! Yum!
Yesenia Sanchez
pollo con arroz was good, interesting combination of crispy rice with vegetables and chicken- a trendy twist on jambalaya. Tacos de carne asada were ok, meat was well marinated but other than that, nothing outstanding. Was expecting more from the raving reviews
Charles Hoffacker
The food was exceptional but I would recommend making reservations. Our waitress was a bit inattentive and we did not receive our appetizers but the caveat was, we were walk-ins. Despite that, we will be returning. Again, excellent food.
Erik Buchberger
Excellent food, reasonable lunch prices, and a modern atmosphere that doesn't make you feel out of place when trendier patrons enter the restaurant. The wall-sized mural embracing the Day of the Dead sets a colorful tone, and the almost "found object" collection of light fixtures adds warmth to the edgy seating pieces.
Still, if you don't pay attention to the decor at all, the food will hold your interest well beyond your stay. My dish--duck carnitas quesadillas--was both flavorful and filling, with duck, salsa Verde, queso fresca, and crema coming together to make a potentially heavy cheese meal into just the right consistency. It was ninety degrees out when I left, and the dish didn't unduly weigh me down on the Louisiana heat.
Though I visited while on vacation in New Orleans, I'll definitely go back if I wind up in NOLA again.

Excellent food!

Just came here because Aaron Sanchez (Chopped, food network)
food is okay
decor is nice
overall, truthfully, the reason I visited was just so i can say I ate at Aaron Sanchez place. (not going to lie)
My personal opinion, if it wasn't for the food network chef, this place is an over priced fancy Taco Bell.
