Reviews of Jacques-Imo's
Gemma S.
Great experience. Long wait to be seated however once you get the table the service is very attentive and efficient. Giving 4 stars solely because some of the creole classics seemed watered down, especially considering the price. The salad dressing and desert were truly amazing. The drinks strong yet well balanced.

Cool eclectic place. The food was delicious. I do feel the prices were a bit overpriced for what we received. I enjoyed the rabbit which was a big surprise. The cornbread with the garlic infused parsley were a hit. It's gives the feel of history so it's worth a visit.

This is the BEST place to eat in New Orleans hands down!! They do not take reservations so plan to wait, but it is worth it. Everything we had was above and beyond. I ate here 12 years ago and was worried it wouldn’t live up to my memory but I was very pleasantly surprised. The cocktails, appetizers & entree were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The cornbread muffins were to die for. Our grouper In pistachio sauce was perfectly cooked. Idina, our server was friendly, helpful & checked on us often. She made menu recommendations & made sure we were well taken care of. The best service we had in 4 days eating all over New Orleans! We loved her!

A MUST when visiting NOLA! This was the first place I dined in upon arriving and it ended up being my favorite during my visit. While there was an hour long wait for a table, I opted in to sit at the full-service bar instead. To start off, the shrimp and alligator sausage cheesecake was phenomenal! Truly a unique dish that left me wanting more. The shrimp creole was also fantastic and very fulfilling. Overall, had a great experience and would highly recommend for those looking for “Real N’awlins Food”!
Dallin Yarrington
The alligator cheesecake is a must try. Sounds disgusting but it is very good. The stuffed shrimp is also pictured and very good. We also tried red rice and beans, a new Orleans staple. And the coconut bread pudding. Everything was fantastic. I would highly recommend

Food and atmosphere are fantastic! Get the Cheesecake and bbq shrimp. A little pricey but you get a lot of food. The entire staff are very friendly and attractive, would date any of them.
Jarrett Stuckey
This place should not be missed by a tourist or a local! The atmosphere is absolutely fantastic; I couldn't have felt more at home eating. The service was also fantastic; we kept it at waters and we had an ever full fountain. Never had to ask for a water refill!
Now to the food! We didn't know when we'd be back so we stuffed ourselves, but it was worth it. The cornbread was surprisingly delicious: moist and tasty. The appetizers, Boudin Balls and the fried green tomatoes were superb. Couldn't ask for anything better. The entrees were equally as good! The ribeye was cooked to perfection, and the potato crusted drum was tender and juicy.
This is one of my favorite spots here in NOLA. Highly recommended!

This restaurant should not be missed for a NOLA visitor. Everything about it from the character and the eclectic decor, the service and the food is so awesome. Only wish I had not communicated how full I was to the server because we were never offered dessert 😞. I would love to know who gets to be seated at the two too in the back of the pickup!
Jonathan Taylor
One of the best spots in the area. This is a MUST TRY spot. You will not be disappointed. Doug was the best server we have ever had at any restaurant. He was absolutely WONDERFUL.
Great food, great atmosphere, and a wonderful staff. Our favorite spot in the area.
Aleea Eick
Cannot recommend this place highly enough. Absolutely incredible food, but with a very relaxed vibe.
Tried the alligator cheesecake on recommendation, which was great. The fish we ordered, redfish and crab-stuffed catfish were some of the best entrees we've ever had.
We were stuffed after that, but our waitress still brought us a complimentary dessert!
Chrystal Foster
Absolutely a must every time I’m in New Orleans. The food is well seasoned and the portions are a good size. Alligator cheesecake is unique and delicious! But the crawfish étouffée is the reason I come here. Best ever! You will leave stuffed. If you have any issues about sitting close to strangers, this might not be the place for you. They pack people in there like sardines.
Joey Tsai
The foods and services were very good! They also gave us their signature desserts for free! If you come to New Orleans for your very first time, don't miss this awesome restaurant's delicious foods and good services!
Chris Flanigan
First and foremost, the food and the service were both excellent. The atmosphere, however, was excruciatingly loud and unenjoyable.
My wife and I ordered boudin arancini from the appetizer menu and they were fantastic. They were crispy, gooey, and delicious. I'd get them every single time.
My wife and I then split the barbecue shrimp entree which came with a spinach salad (sesame seeds and a sesame-plum vinaigrette) and two sides. For our sides, we ordered potato salad and corn maque choux.
The corn maque choux was just okay. I was expecting more, knowing what the dish should be. It was really just some greasy corn with not a lot of additional flavor outside of the corn itself.
The potato salad was tasty. No real comments about it other than that we enjoyed it.
The spinach salad was odd. It was lifeless, not very tasty, made no sense with the other dishes, and frankly was just unnecessary.
The barbecue shrimp... where do I start? The shrimp was PERFECTLY cooked. There was a lot of delicious sauce. Oddly, however, there was very little rice in our dish. Maybe 3-4 spoonfuls (not heaping) at the most. This was the only disappointment with the dish - we would've loved a lot more rice to soak up that delicious sauce. We had to leave quite a bit of the sauce in the bowl because we had no bread (for sopping) or additional rice. Other than that, it was an amazing dish!
The environment/ambience was uncomfortably loud and unenjoyable. My wife and I spent most of the meal in silence as any talking required loud shouting to be heard over the loud music playing and other people shouting loudly to be heard over the music. The music could still be played at about 1/4 the volume and still be easily heard and enjoyed. When the music is that loud it just forces everyone to be louder. People dine together so they can interact and enjoy one another's company - usually through conversation.
We will definitely come back for the food and service - only if we can sit outside.

Excellent restaurant. You have to walk through the kitchen to get to the dining room, which is definitely a first for me, but it is fun.
Knowledgeable staff, incredible menu. This place is well worth the price.
We had an alligator and crawfish... CHEESECAKE and it was amazing. Also had boudin balls and an order of stuffed shrimp.
I ordered their special, which was a huge smoked ribeye over a bed of bleu cheese mashed potatoes.
Steak was cooked perfectly and to order. Buddy ordered the fried chicken and said it was amazing. Definitely coming back.
Jem Lundy
One of the best places I’ve had food at in NOLA. The food was delicious. The customer services was amazing. Our waitress was Sarah and she did an amazing job making us feel welcomed and taking care of us. I had the lamb and my husband had a ribeye. Highly recommended.

We’re in New Orleans on business.
The locals at the Crescent Bark Dog Park recommended Jacques-Imo’s.
My dish was the Shrimp Creole is was amazing.
The Food had a very good balance of flavor. The Shrimps texture was perfect! The spice, sauce, and rice complemented the Shrimp without over powering it.
I could go on and on, but I would just be repeating myself.
The part that made eating at Jacques-Imo’s truly a great experience was the Wait Staff. Very professional, fun, and on top of their game.
I am so glad we went there.
Anytime your out of town ask a local where to eat. I’m sure it will be great!

Our dinner started with some complimentary cornbread it was slightly sweet… in a good way. We had 2 appetizers; the “SHRIMP & ALLIGATOR SAUSAGE CHEESECAKE” and the
“FRIED GREEN TOMATOES”. The Fried Green Tomatoes were good but the shrimp & alligator sausage cheesecake was the obvious winner, please order this for the table! Then dinner started with the complimentary “House Spinach Salad”. My entree was the “CRAWFISH ETOUFFÉE” it was great, it was almost like a soup. Someone at the table had the “Stuffed Catfish” and it was the winner of the table. Our dessert was complimentary and we had the Bread Pudding and crème Brûlée. Bread Pudding was the winner of a dessert. Our servers were nice and kept our glasses full. The food came out fast and we got seated 30 minutes before our reservation. I would definitely recommend stopping by if you have time.
Neville Forsythe II
Had a great time. Got there early so the wait was only 15 minutes. The food was amazing. I ate way more than I should have but I have no regrets. The service was absolutely great. Although the sign jokingly says warm beer, bad food, and poor service, they 100% are the complete opposite. My beer was cold, the food was out of this world, and I can’t say enough nice things about the wait staff. I would 100% recommend this place to anyone visiting.
Kri (Klmbean)
The restaurant was so loud. Hard to hear the wait staff and our friends. We had 3 different servers helping our party of 13 out and drinks were still missed or slow to come out. The food is way expensive and not worth the price. I think on a less bisy night that the atmosphere may be better but IDK. Good luck parking too if you take your car. Thankfully we ubered.
Blake Justman
Such a fun, lively restaurant with DELICIOUS food! No joke, this is a must if you're in New Orleans! Jacque is also such a nice and friendly guy. Couldn't have had a better time!
Foodie Fort Lauderdale
Everything they say about this place is so true. A fun and eclectic dining experience while visiting New Orleans. Fyi For a table you need reservations, and must book in advance. When you enter the restaurant, the ceilings are filled with framed paintings. While the decor was quirky, it brought a uniqueness to the place that I appreciated. Everything ordered was super delicious. If I ever come back to Nola I'm definitely coming back here.

It has been over 5 years since our first visit to Jacques-Imo's. The food did not disappoint again this time. We made reservations over 3 weeks in advance to make sure we were able to dine here.
Manuel Hernandez (Manny)
An authentic New Orleans experience. Everything we had was delicious, but the two best things were the Shrimp/Gator Cheesecake and the Duck!
PHILIP FINKLE
Great eclectic place great menu and food.We had the shrimp in alligator sausage Cheesecake and Mussels appetizers with BBQ Shrimp Redfish and Grouper specials all over the top good
Jennifer Weathers
Very great food! Staff were friendly and attentive! The atmosphere was super cool and enjoyed the whole experience! Would for sure recommend if you want to try something different and that has a Soul Food feeling!
Also…. Get the alligator shrimp cheesecake 🙌
Leo Spriggins
Absolutely one of the Best Restaurants Anywhere. You can taste Leslie Austin's influence in almost every dish. Reservations for I belive 5 or more are accepted otherwise get there early or be prepared to wait! Highly Recommemded.
Roger
I took my son to New Orleans for the food and this was our Tippedy-Top favorite. We got to walk through the kitchen, sit at a side table and really enjoyed the ambience! Loved it!
Daniel Archer
Great food in a cramped location. The building to the left is part of the same restaurant and looked to be much more open. There are also outdoor dining opportunities when the weather is good.
Darcy Laquerre
Wonderful place to dine true cajun food! We walked through the kitchen to our table. I had a deep-fried roast beef po'boy! It was delicious. We sliced it up and are it with a fork and knife.
John Dwyer
Wow. This place is incredible!! Very relaxed atmosphere, excellent service, and every single bite was delicious. One of the few restaurants I've been to where anyone walking by took care of clearing plates, refilling water, etc. That's a culture and really speaks to the team here. The food was amazing, we had the alligator cheesecake, fried green tomatoes, and jambalaya for appetizers. Then I had the Grouper Cauliflower and they brought us a dessert on the house.
Anyone who reads my reviews knows food quality only goes so far, but if I could rate 7 stars due to service I would. Great people, literally everyone greeted us and thanked us when we left. And again, we were never short of drink or had dirty plates because everyone helped out.
Cannot say enough about how fantastic this place is, and I cannot wait to come back!
Brendon Rodriguez
Awesome food here and exceptional service my dad told me to get the alligator shrimp cheesecake and it was dang good!! Don't get me started on the Boudain balls they were exceptional!
John Tooraen
Overall the experience was quite satisfactory. The food was well prepared. Our only duality was the rabbit tenderloin appetizer. It was a little bland. Everything else was very well prepared.
Ry Be
As amazing as I remembered! I love it, the food was spectacular, the service was exceptional, you get what you pay for, but you're gonna pay.
I'll be back, but hopefully it's not another 10 years!
Tonight I indulged in the gator sausage cheesecake, loved the spinach salad & complimentary garlic butter cornbread, glazed duck & because I mentioned being prior Coast Guard we got complimentary bread pudding!
Thanks to the server Joey, good dude with good recommendations!
Danielle Segall
Very friendly staff and owner, excellent food, worth the wait. I tried the chicken and andouille gumbo, the grouper, and the crawfish Étouffée. The sauces were excellent and the whole meal was delicious.
Liz Mason
Went here on advice of locals. I’m a New Orleans frequent visitor. There were 5 of us, so we got stuck in the big parties room next door. Full of loud drunks, we couldn’t even talk to each other. We discovered we don’t like fried green tomatoes, but that’s on us. The spinach salad though, everyone at the table disliked, there is no dressing choice and it was unpleasant to all. Redemption came in the form of their chicken. Huge servings, I recommend splitting a plate if you order it. It was the best chicken I’ve ever eaten, but overall the experience wasn’t worth going again.
Scott Downing
A tremendous dining experience. Worth the trip from canal and the French Quarter. You must get the Alligator cheesecake and the barbecue shrimp.
Melanie KRD
Visiting friends and tried Jacques-Imo's for dinner because they have BBQ Shrimp over rice on the menu (my FAVE dish, very hard to find). We sat outside on a picnic table, there was live music in the street, and the vibe was very relaxed. The service was amazing! We had at least 3 different people help us while waiting for our table and while dining; they were all friendly and on point. We couldn't have asked for better service! Then the food came and it was ALL excellent! We tried appetizers including the shrimp alligator sausage cheesecake (odd but interesting), boudin balls arancini (stuffed with pepper jack cheese that melted out perfectly when you cut into them, delish!!!), and crispy fried brussel sprouts (described as "decadent" and they were). We tried entrees including BBQ Shrimp (fine as wine!), paneed rabbit (fried over a creole pasta, yum), scallops (perfect), and gumbo (FYI has potato salad instead of rice - gumbo was tasty). While dining, the owner stopped by to make sure we were having a good time, really nice guy!! After that amazing first experience, we will DEFINITELY go back and recommend to anyone wanting a family-friendly NOLA dining experience 😋 (we had 4 adults, a 10 yr old, and a 4 yr old).

I had a wonderful birthday meal with some of my closest friends. The service was impeccable and the food was excellent. However, there was another party that seemed like they'd fit in better at a chuck-e-cheese. Very loud and obnoxious and took away from our dining experience. I wish the wait staff would have asked them to be quiet but i also didn't bring it up to their attention as i didnt want to inconvenience them.
Steve Erchien
I went for my birthday dinner. We had more people that are reservation was for and they were absolutely packed but they still accommodated our extra people. The service is amazing the food is phenomenal Jacques came over to our table and talk to us for a few minutes and he was such a wonderful guy as well. This is definitely a place you must see if you come to New Orleans
Grant Whitsitt
Best restaurant in new orleans - get the gator cheesecake. Chef liked my metal band tee 🤙 …
Siew Keng Fong
The food is superb. The balance between the fresh food and the spice/seasoning done just right.
The atmosphere is amazing and I love the decor inside and outside.
The service is excellent. Special shout out to Alexandria 😊. Happy staff, happy customer, great for business.

Went with family on our last night in New Orleans and experienced a truly special meal. While a noisy atmosphere, Jacques Imo's is true New Orleans and serves spectacular food with great service. Our waiter, Riley G, took time to explain and answer all our questions. Unfortunately they didn't have the special my aunt had ordered, but the chef brought us a piece of alligator sausage and shrimp cheesecake on the house. Talk about spectacular! So delicious, as was the rest of the meal - steak, venison, stuffed catfish, and dessert. Riley brought us one of each dessert, a vanilla creme brulee and a piece of coconut bread pudding, plus bonus mini cheesecakes. Riley was great. The food was great. I will be back my next time visiting New Orleans!
Nate Sobieck
The food had good flavor and came out perfectly hot all the way through. The entrees are a hearty portion, but there sides are a touch on the petite side. The flavors were fine, but nothing really blew me away.
The service was top-notch! All in all my group of four enjoyed ourselves and left stuffed and satisfied.
Phillip Strano
Food was tasty. Watermelon cocktail drink was tasty. Cool atmosphere. Good food.
Tatum
By far the best food and service we got the entire time we were in New Orleans. Every single bite was absolutely amazing and the drinks were so good too. We tried the alligator cheesecake, paneed rabbit, and the fried chicken. The pasta that came with the rabbit was mouthwateringly good, probably the best pasta I've ever had at a restaurant, and the fried chicken was something I've been craving ever since we left. I'm dying to go back.
Liz Tandy
Best meal I’ve had in a while. Great service, thank you, Tasha! Good service is a very large percentage of our restaurant experience. I had the blackened redfish with chili crab hollandaise, just stellar. Hubs had the Alligator and shrimp cheesecake and gumbo. He really enjoyed it. We also got their nightly special drinks, watermelon mojito and their version of rum punch- so stinking good! Since it was his birthday, hubs also got their caramel bread pudding. He said it was awesome.
Carol Smith
This is worth the wait! The shrimp and alligator sausage cheesecake is delicious. It’s similar to quiche in taste and consistency. Grouper was excellent. Go early and skip the crowd.
Tami and Cassandra Fu
Cant say enough about how much we love this place- exceptional food, delightful service, fun vibe, gracious host. Ribeye with blue cheese mashed potatoes was delicious! Highly recommend the alligator cheesecake, too!
Lisa Hozey
Best advice I ever got was to go to Jacques-Imo’s to eat. Immediately, we were welcomed by an amazing bartender and alligator cheesecake. We got stuffed catfish and blackened redfish, and were floored by how perfectly cooked the fish were. If you’ve only got one night in New Orleans, this is where you should stop for dinner. We’re already wanting to plan our next trip this way, if only to snag some more alligator cheesecake
Gary J.
Laid back funky atmosphere, yet very good service & excellent food: grouper, shrimp, short ribs, green tomatoes, soft shell crab. All delicious. Full bar.
Katrina Bush
This is a must try. BEST FOOD HANDS DOWN IN NOLA. Kacey (not sure that’s how you spell her name) was a WONDERFUL server. Had the best recommendations. The cheesecake was delicious. The entree was great and dessert was even better at the end, crème brûlée… YUM. 10/10 recommend making this apart of your trip.
Makaela Johnson
I loved the food and service the food was amazing but especially sea food
Craig Spisak
We sat at the bar with incredible service! So much fun with Josh and Adina and the food and drinks were awesome. Boudain balls, rabbit app, stuffed fish and duck breast are all highly recommended.
Theodore Bridges
For interesting creole/Cajun/New Orleans food this place should be first on the list!
They have lots of seating and still provide excellent service!
Strong drinks! Try the Finanay (sp), it's a powerful punch. The Mater D said it had four kinds of punch. I am pretty sure he meant to say rum I ordered it and it was strong.
Always get the gator and crawfish cheesecake! Even if only for an appetizer so everyone can try it. It is wonderful!
Mattlan Ladner
Delectable and rich creole food!! HIGHLY recommend getting the shrimp & alligator sausage cheesecake!!! Trust me on that one. Since it was my first time, they were very good to us! Stuffed catfish was perfectly flakey but the crab meat dressing that it came with- out of this world. This food is RICH but in the best way. The watermelon mojito was fresh and not real sweet but the watermelon bits kept getting stuck in the straw which was annoying. Other than that, GREAT dining experience if you are wanting good, creole SOUL food.
Jose Arias
Without a doubt, the very best southern New Orleans food I have ever eaten in my life. Make sure to make a reservation in advance for parties of 6 or more, places fill up very quickly.
Shona Dunne
We had the BEST night with Jacques and his team, HUGE thanks to Marc at Nola DeTours for taking us and introducing us to this amazing place. Incredible food, drinks and atmosphere - you’ll kick yourself if you don’t get here during a visit to New Orleans!
Piyush Goyal
I HAVE NEVER HAD SO MUCH GOOD FOOD SERVED BY SUCH A SWEET SERVER BEFORE.
We were hosted by Maria. She was super sweet and humourous. We asked for her recommendation because it was our first time in New Orleans. She explained everything on the menu with so much enthusiasm. We ordered one Headache in a glass but she gave us two, we ordered escargot and she brought fried green tomatoes and brussel sprouts (on the house) and all through our meal she offered different types of salads (on the house). After this we were completely full, but still wanted to try the barbeque shrimp. We literally ate only 3 shrimps and had to ask for the boxes. At the end, she brought creme brulee and coconut pudding along with the cheque. Me and my friend had to penguin-walk our way back to our car.
Sophie Sparer
Amazing! As the other reviews say, try the shrimp and alligator sausage cheesecake (first pic). The second is off their soft shell crab and fried green tomato entrée, which I would absolutely order again. I will be back and taking visitors from out of town here!
Ritika Bhattacharjee
The most AMAZING food I've ever had. Every single dish here is divine; very much worth the price (each app is about $10-$12, each entree is about $28-$30). The service is fabulous; our server, Lauren, heard that it was our first time in New Orleans and gave us a free bowl of gumbo and also dessert on the house. We ended up ordering the gumbo, it was THAT good! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu; of the hundreds of restaurants I've visited for the Google Guides program, this is the FIRST restaurant where every menu item from the appetizers to the desserts was 11/10. If you want a real New Orleans experience, eat here.
Dennis Dillenkoffer
food was delicious and perfectly cooked. waiters were one top of taking care of you needs. the only think I didn't like was how loud it was. there was nothing to control the sound from other people
Frank Yu
Was seated in the dark room next to the kitchen where all the lightbulbs were different colors. Very happy with the complimentary cornbread. Ordered the shrimp and alligator sausage cheesecake, and it was well seasoned, but felt less appetizing in the dark since everything was the same shade of brown and the dish was lukewarm. The crawfish etouffe had tons of crawfish and lots of gravy but like a single spoonful of rice. Also, the beans and rice side dish should just be BEANS, RICE. Overall wish there was slightly more food for the price paid.
Brittney Morales-Arriaga
First time here. Drinks tasted great but for $10 each I should have felt a little something after having 3. We got the rib appetizer, so good! My husband got the fried chicken and corn, so good! I got the crawfish etouffee, wish it had more rice and was luke warm but good flavor. We got bread pudding for dessert, good but a little dry and could have used more sauce. Great service.
Jennifer Choy
A friend said we "MUST" come here, and it did not disappoint. The complimentary garlic cornbread is unique, warm, and so flavorful. We started with the alligator and shrimp cheesecake and crab-stuffed shrimp - yum yum yum. The kids enjoyed fried catfish and shoestring fries. I loved my crawfish etouffee, and hubs' rack of lamb was awesome. The atmosphere is warm, relaxed yet fun, and the service is personable and attentive. It's pricey but worth it for a great night out
Joseph Delaney
Hands down my favorite restaurants in New Orleans, the menu is great as well as the atmosphere. The wait staff is incredible and can steer you in the right direction if you’re between plates. Highly recommend coming here.
eledda gmail
Highly recommended if you want to experience the real New Orleanian feel and taste. The ambience and decor, the friendly and professional service, the tasty food. There’s a lot of character to this place and it is worth experiencing it.
Only downside: clients walk through the kitchen to get to their tables (not the most hygienic in my opinion, but where else in the world?! Only in New Orleans. So if it looses points on the hygiene front, it actually earns the place more points in “character”).
I am not fond of traditional New Orleans cuisine, which I find too greasy. Therefore the three stars. But this is New Orleans cuisine well done. So I will recommend the place to those who want to “eat local” in a great local ambience!
Gabriel Robichaud
This is simply a restaurant you HAVE to go if you are in New Orleans. You just can’t ignore that place. It is worth all the distance you might do to go there.
First, what surprised me is the quality of the service. I have never seen a restaurant work as a team like that. You will have different persons serving you the whole night and they all seem to be the same entity, like ants working together.
Secondly, the food. I started with my first corn bread. Delicious with some kind of butter. I wanted to get some typical plates checked on my list. So I got the Jambalaya and the Gumbo soup. Get those and you won’t regret it. The beer recommendation was also on point.
I have to go back to simply try everything on the menu and be served as a king.
Eric cogdell
The best atmosphere that you could ask for. It was really cool little place with vibrant colors. Another cool aspect was, you must walk through the kitchen to get to the sitting room. Best food around that is a little different from everyone else. Highly recommend.
Tom Colling
I had an amazing visit to Jacques-Imo’s. For an appetizer I enjoyed the savory Shrimp and Alligator Sausage Cheesecake. My main dish was a daily special of blackened sheepshead fish served with a creamy sauce with crab meat, oysters and mushrooms.
The dining room using two sections with most of the seating accessed by walking through the kitchen. Waits can be long, but the food is worth the wait.
Douglas Wilke
Awesome food...comfy atmosphere as well as just being able to tell your friends that you are at the same restaurant that Mike Tirico, John Gruden and Al Michaels go to.
Jason Broom
Every thing was near perfection. Service A class, food delicious and different then normal NOLA cusine, atmosphere was awesome....$32 for a short rib.... I don't know about that. #Geauxeat
Stephanie Simms
Very cozy casual atmosphere. Service was outstanding and the food definitely didn't disappoint. The cornbread with garlic butter was a great accompaniment to NoLA classics. The BBQ shrimp was the standout of our dinner and it was a huge portion.
Hal Doueck
Spectacular restaurant. The wait for seating indoors may be 45-60 minutes or even more, but it's worth the wait. They will do reservations, but expect to wait.
This place is the definition of great seafood. Grits were spectacular, and so was the buttery jalepeno cornbread that comes free. Highly recommend the blackened Cajun fish, the salmon and the potato crusted drum (ie seabass) were all great. Everything we tasted was well made, and they also had a full bar and watermelon mojitos. The ambiance is very cool and very crowded, but worth it!
Robert Cardoni
Only 5 stars? Could have been 10
We are visiting New Orleans and a local friend brought us out of downtown to this amazing Cajun restaurant.
The staff was amazing from the minute we walked in. The place was slammed- to be expected at 8p on a Friday night ... but Cecilia the host was amazing and got us seated fairly quickly.
Avery our server was amazingly attentive ... filling waters, folding napkins, making for and awesome dining experience ...
Oh, and the food!
First of all - you are greeted by a plate of the most delicious (butterific) corn bread muffins when you sit down.
All meals also come with a spinach salad topped with a fried oyster.
For starters - the fried grits are Amazing. They come with crawfish and feta and a delicious cream sauce.
The fried green tomatoes are topped with shrimp and amazing as well
People we are with had: braised lamb, stuffed catfish, bbq shrimp and crawfish Étouffée... only complaint was that the Étouffée could have used more rice. Otherwise everything was delicious.
Oh, the meal ends with a complimentary dessert platter!!! Woah!!!
Coconut bread pudding, cheese cake, chocolate covered strawberries ...oh my!!!
Would 100% recommend this to anyone looking for an awesome NOLA meal!
James Gardner
This was my second time coming here, but first with kids. What I love about Jacques-Imo's is that they embrace and encompass everything New Orleans. There decor is quirky and fun, the food is creative and inventive and they try to stay authentic to their food heritage ingredients. This time we got the rabbit gumbo, the fried green tomatoes, and the fried chicken. the gumbo was the best gumbo I had while I was there, perfectly dark broth and great ingredients. And of course their corn bread Dee-Lish-us. The server was laid back and friendly, and the whole experience was super fun and enjoyable. Will be back.
Tyler Harrison
One of the best steaks I've ever eaten. Friendly servers. Owner came by the table to ask us how everything was. Great place. Don't leave without trying this place.
Darren King
Just amazing. The food is delicious, the atmosphere friendly and comfortable, and the cocktails are moreish. You'll have to wait, but there's some good seating and a whiskey sour will help you pass the time. If you're lucky, you may even get to dine in the back of a pickup truck.
Trey's Entrees
Jacques-Imo's is a must. Those garlic laced cornbread muffins, and the signature salad with that peanut dressing and fried oyster on top.
Guess what we did since we couldn't decide on which appetizer to get. We got one of each. They were excellent.
The fried grits were off the chain. The boudin balls had an excellent sweet creole mustard dip.
The flash fried brussells in that yummy sauce! The fried green tomatoes !! The savory alligator cheesecake.
The potato crusted drum was off the chart.
The cremé brule and coconut bread pudding topped everything off.
L Aguilar-Chef-Cook-Foodie
This place was off the charts in flavor! The jambalaya was good but not amazing, what i liked the most was the alligator cheesecake and duck gumbo! Great flavors, and definitely a spot to stop by and eat while visiting.

The restaurant is an old shot gun house, with it's own style. You have to go through the kitchen to get to the tables. The food was amazing (highly recommend the alligator cheesecake appetizer and paneed rabbit entree) and so was the watermelon mojito. My only complaint was the noise level. I walked out hoarse and I would not suggest it if you are looking for a romantic quiet date night. We will definitely be back.
Christopher Katz
Best food I've had. Highly highly recommend the gator shrimp cheesecake. As odd as it sounds it was the best thing I've eaten. The stuffed catfish and the grouper were unbeatable. Perfectly soft with a good crunch and the best combination of spices. And the wait staff were extremely chill and helpful. Great fun atmosphere.
Mike Chicago
It's a lot bigger in here than it appears from outside. Nice but small bar area, kinda pricy on the drinks. Waited for a table in the bar and admired the art on the wall AND THE CEILING!!
First time seeing that, but pretty cool. The girl who would be my girlfriend talked about doing some ceiling hanging art at our place. Hmmm.
Walked thru the kitchen to get to the dining area. It's laid back and cool back here too. Got some cornbread muffins (complimentary).
Started with the Fried Boudin Balls (Arancini Di Rosi). Pretty tasty, a little light on the boudin flavor, though. Served with a wonderful creole mustard sauce.
The house salad is spinach, with one fried oyster on it. Delish!
We both had the Aunt Leslies Fried chicken, which I had heard was the best around. For sides, I had mashed potatoes and red beans and rice. The girl who would be my girlfriend had mashed sweet potatoes and Corn Macque Chow. Both of my sides were average, both of hers were great.
The fry was done perfectly..crisp, flavorful skin and moist meat inside. The was a peppery, garlic taste that permeated the meat, so each bite was full of flavor. It's 3 pieces (not a 1/2 chicken), but very filling
The chicken is definitely worth it!
Friendly staff, clean tables. It's easy to like this place. Parking, of course a little of a challenge on a weekend, but hey, it's Oak St.
Najamus Sehar
This is the best food I have had in NOLA so far. The place is pleasantly crowded and has a personality with red lights and walls painted with oak trees. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Our waitress Madison went out of her way to enhance our wonderful experience. We ordered stuffed catfish and groper. Catfish was amazing!!! We got free desert and that was the best creme brule ever!! Can’t wait to go back.
Jan Tran
The food is out of this world! The alligator and shrimp cheesecake was savory in all of its decadence. The shrimp etouffee over rice with potato and corn was soooo good. The complimentary corn muffin had this garlic and scallion butter were perfect.
eli kohn
5 stars. Wow. Blown away by this place. I usually dont eat so much but I just couldn't stop. Corn bread was light and tasty. Alegator souffle thing tasted good and was my first time eating reptile. Spinach salad had an amazing dressing that was somewhere between creamy and oily while not being too much of either. Cajain Bouilliban was a fantastic mix of tomatoes, basic, celery, and seafood with just a little bit of spice. This is what I couldn't stop eating and felt on the verge of overdoing it from. The sides of corn and coleslaw were decent but certainly not the star of the night. If I'm ever in New Orleans again, I'll definitely be stopping by for another great meal.
Lisa Gee
Great food and fun atmosphere! Need reservations for sure!
Brianne Merck
The food is: Superb!
A bit pricey and VERY busy. I would suggest reservations.
We had great service throughout the entire length of our visit.
The atmosphere is vibrant and there is a lot of people in closer quarters, so be prepared to move your chair or be bumped a few times (at least, where we were sitting in the back, it was like that).
Gary Maxwell
Place lives up to its reputation. Funky fun place to spend an evening. The special today was Lamb Neck, slowly braised with subtle spices. We did our best to pick it clean. The Stuffed Shrimp appetizer is quite delightful. Drink specials vary, their take on a Hurricane-style drink was excellent. Be sure to say hi to Jacques if he’s there.
james sutton
Great atmosphere and bartenders. Server we had really knew her stuff. I had the Cajun Red fish and it was light and flakey, the sides were tasty but small. The only draw back were that the vegetables were a tad undercooked. I would certainly recommend for a dinner with friends.
Chris
Jacques-Imo's is cozy and has all kinds of art hung up in the restaurant (even on the ceiling). The food is amazing! Get the shrimp and alligator cheesecake appetizer like everyone suggests. You'll spend a bit more here, but the food and cocktails are definitely worth it! If that didn't sell you, the staff was on point, especially our server Phil.
My girlfriend and I had the pleasure of having Phil as our server. We told him we were from out of town and were looking to try some real New Orleans cooking... He knew a lot about the food and made a couple suggestions that we probably wouldn't have picked ourselves. Turned out to be the best meal I had in NOLA (I've been eating all the things in the 5 days I've been here). So here's a big thank you to Phil and the rest of the staff at Jacques-Imo's for introducing us to some of New Orleans' finest!
Heather Matthews
This place easily has my favorite item I've ever eaten! The alligator shrimp cheesecake is to die for! Everything. There was so amazing. We already have a date planned to go back
Chentel Cross
Nice place, great staff, and location wasn't too outside of the city. Food was great.
Lisa
These pictures don't do the food justice because it was so rich and delicious. The Crawfish alligator cheesecake was like nothing I've ever had before. Sort of like a quiche but a cheesecake. I dunno but I loved it! The roast beef po' boy was deep fried. Yum! We only did appetizers that day but the entrees looked delicious too!
tasha crichlow
Nice place lots of great artwork / pictures look up even the ceiling covered with some great pics. The Cornbread!!! Omg..it is the SH** if I could have ate just that would be fine but no i was 2 hungry so lets eat. Ok the food is why the rating is just OK the rice and beans seriously needed some flavor was surprisingly bland and so were the fries. The smothered chicken is NOT what we were use to usually we think smothered chicken as a breaded piece of chicken smothered! in gravy this is not the case here their version is chopped up sitting in broth WTH and to top it off it had a burnt flavor they were nice enough to take it back. The fried chicken was pretty good also this salad they bring out just spinach and a fried oyster on top so simple yet so tasty n fresh. Nice people i just minused a star because hunger and food u have to send back not a good combo but I would go back
Christopher Stanley
Everything! Yes, every single thing here is freaking awesome! You should definitely come. The food the drinks, and especially the service. Just fabulous.
Phillip Oswald
I cannot say enough good things about this place. I’m a big “foodie,” and this place is on my top 5 list for sure. Service and food (and drinks) were exquisitely delicious. Thanks to Jacques-Imo’s and our server Adriana!
Donna Saluta
Definitely a gem. Really unique ambiance. Loved the interior and exterior art. There were 3 separate dining areas, one of which accommodates private parties, the front hd a bar. Clean bathrooms.
The food took a long time to arrive, but we were a large party of 9. The food was amazingly delicious with beautiful presentation. I had the stuffed catfish with mashed sweet potato side. The watermelon mojito was so good I drank it up like water.
I would definitely recommend others to try this place.
Brandon Wlosinski
Literally in contention for the best meal I have ever eaten in my life. 100/100, no notes. The drinks, the appetizers, the mains, the desserts, you literally cannot choose a bad option.
Deitra Lawson
This place was a good recommendation from a foodtour we took earlier. Every bite was savory! It is a must try when visiting New Orleans.
Victoria Graham
Vegetarian Delight was very good, great service and special atmosphere! Definitely recommend!
Cassandra Fabiano
Steven took such great care of us!!! Shrimp and alligator sausage cheesecake followed by GODZILLA softshell crab special. Fantastic experience, delicious meal, and over-the-top perfect service!!! We will be back!
Michael Young
This is a quintessential New Orleans restaurant that everyone should visit if they're in the neighborhood. The service is amazing, food is great, and the ambience is one of a kind.
A A
I suggest getting there very early or make sure that you call for reservations. We had to come back another day since the first day we went, there was a 1.5 hour wait for a table for 5. Since it was already 7:45 that meant we would of not been seated until after 9 PM.
The next day we got there at 6 and were seated immediately. It was totally worth coming back. I had the crawfish etouffee and it was one of the best I have ever had.
Chase Poole
Loved the place the atmosphere great food great food and great company Ben was our server and he helped heighten the experience
Grace Azcarate
Really authentic New Orleans styled food. A local recommended this restaurant and I’m so glad we went. Absolutely scrumptious and we left very full!
Rob W
This place is as New Orleans as it gets. Loved by the locals, recommended by everyone. My dish had some flaws that were unforgivable but I will definitely be back.
Kimmy E
What a fun spot. Came in for a dinner party and the staff was so nice and friendly! We had drinks at the bar while waiting for our party. The food was delicious and I ca t wait to come back! Thank you!
Bert Goro
Our favorite restaurant in all of New Orleans - a must go to - food is simply amazing and prices are more then reasonable - have never heard a bad comment and are always thanked for suggesting- you will not be disappointed
chris scala
Amazing food, casual atmosphere, 1 hour wait minimum unless you get very lucky. Sign in and get a drink or two next door. The waiting area is crowded. Service is efficient and friendly, though they're way too busy to chat.
SchmoMofo539
Food was excellent. Service was great. The BBQ shrimp was delicious.
Kendra Jurist
Got several recommendations to stop in here while I was on vacation last week, and was absolutely not left disappointed! The staff was friendly, the decor was bright and colorful, and the food was absolutely delicious! Pictured is the shrimp and alligator sausage cheesecake, the boudin balls, and the duck and andouille gumbo. I ate the grilled duck breast for my entree. Everything was amazing!
Douglas Williams
Service was excellent with courteous competent staff...Soft shell crab special with fried green tomatoes a little disappointing no where near as good as it was in the past, very light in the etouffee and fried green tomatoes kinda weak...Rabbit tenderloin kinda dry but alligator cheesecake appetizer a hone run...Bread pudding dessert lacking in flavor...Prices have jumped while portions have shrunk...
Carin Carstens
As always, absolutely delicious. Always get the alligator cheese cake.
Special was softshell crab over fried green tomatoes & can never go wrong with crawfish etouffee.
Lou A
Quirky with great food and service. Classic Rock music plays loudly through their sound system. Pricey: all appetizers start at $12 & all entries start at over $30, but they include a small salad, 2 sides and cornbread. Wines by the glass start at $12 & $40 by the bottle and those were unremarkable. Blackened Redfish entre was large, enjoyable, and not too spicy. Fun atmosphere. Fairly small bar area as you walk in then you walk through the kitchen to get to the funky dining rooms. A bit of an adventure, and fun.
Milo Smith
Our waiter, like most waiters, said everything was good. But unlike other waiters our waiter wasn't lying. The salad was good. The alligator cheesecake was good. The crawfish etouffee was good. The swordfish with crawfish on top was good. It was all so good. Great place with lots of fun art . . . just go there and you won't be disappointed.
Rachel Curling
Loved the aesthetic and the vibe. Great service, awesome food, verrrrry strong drinks. Get the grouper!
Ryan McCain
Had a birthday dinner here with some good friends. The bread pudding (not pictured) is divine. Treat yourself to a really fun evening here.
Robert Martindale
Great spot for authentic N'awlins food. Get a reservation. There can otherwise be quite the wait. They're that popular
Courtney Keller
Everything was so very delicious. The shrimp and alligator sausage cheesecake was rich and the sheepshead special was tender and flavorful. Will definitely come back!
marie bramlett
Great service. Great staff. Great food. Had the gator cheesecake. It was a savory delight, and surprisingly delicious... more like a quiche than a traditional cheesecake.
Carol Hollister
DELICIOUS & FUN. We had a terrific time. Great music and bartenders too. It is worth the wait.
Nakia Staley
The food was the best..i had the grouper was excellent, stuffed shrimp. Oh the cornbread is amazing!!!!
Bill Cheatham
A must go-to restaurant uptown New Orleans for some of the best Creole/Cajun food in the city. Dress code is “come as you are”. The decor is retro “garage sell” with a very fun and casual atmosphere with great service.
Chef Jacques honed his skills working with Chef Paul Prudhomme At K-Paul’s. He has created an awesome creative menu. For starters try the alligator/shrimp sausage cheesecake. Then move on to the Blackened Redfish with crab chili hollandaise... Just incredibly delicious.
Get there early to avoid a very long wait, unless you have a group of 5 or more... then they will take a reservation.
Derail Jaymes
Best food we had on our entire New Orleans trip!! Huge selection of options, from the best seafood in Louisiana to the best fried chicken I had during my visit. The decor and ambiance is great, our wait-staff was amazing, and the food #100!! I plan to stop here every time I'm in town, and if I'm lucky, I'll have tried everything on the menu before I'm 50! Also, the minitruck is a VIP dining table! Call to reserve it for that special dinner! Definitely reccomend!! Must visit on your trip to New Orleans! #boudinballs and #dessert
Amanda
This place is a little tight in the front bar area (I couldn't figure out who called our name when we were ready to be seated) bit otherwise it was really good.
AbbyT Mauwong
This is SO good!. Locals recommend it, and they are right. It's past the big Garden Dristrict homes and almost at the end of the streetcar line, get off at Oak Street. The patrons are mostly local, the owner walks the dining area (which is fun, hip, and casual), shaking hands and just being nice. The food is incredible, and the prices are more than reasonable. Fun, fun place. Reservations not required, but helpful.
Robert Anderson
Great little place for a REAL New Orleans dinner. The atmosphere is very relaxed and staff is incredibly friendly. But the food is the real star here. From the amazing corn muffin starters to the mouth watering crab stuffed catfish and sides, it's all incredible. Portions are good sized so bring an appetite and you'll leave very happy
Stephen Chacko
Jacques-Imo's is the ABSOLUTE GREATEST, local-yocal off the beaten path, non tourist, best kept secret in the New Orleans food scene. Phenomenal staff serving PHENOMENAL food!! If y'all are lucky, you'll get to meet the legendary Jacques himself then you will experience the true spirit of New Orleans!!
The Phoenix - Rising again
On the recommendation from our Lyft driver, a local, we took the chance with this location. Last on our list, we took the street car to the other end of town and walked a couple blocks in hopes of a halfway decent, hole in the wall meal, before packing up to fly out.
The place was hoppin before we got there, we thought it may have just been a busy night. We squeezed through the door and were greeted by standing room only. The food on the plates of others looked and smelled great so we worked our way up to a server and asked for a table.
We were bummed when they told us the wait was an hour and a half, but we put our name on the list anyway. Then sat down to scan the area online for anything else that sounded better. Don't waste your time, nothing else comes close. Call ahead, get on the list, bring your friends, and plan to not leave until you have tried the food!
It was worth the walk, worth the wait, and just as good, if not better, than all the other reviews have said. The staff was friendly, the bar tenders knew their stuff, and gladly seated us at the bar since we were a small group.
The food was amazing, outstanding flavors in every dish, starting with the corn bread muffins. Everything we ordered was better with every bite, melted in your mouth, and made you want to order more just so you didn't have to be done!
I can't say enough, it was a great experience, and a great note to go out on, and first on the list next time we are in town, and we will book ahead!
Liz R
The red fish was amazing and the watermelon mojito was exceptional. Hand crafted drinks and fresh fish.
Terri J
Food and service is a 5‼️‼️‼️ why is it a 4?Godzilla” fried soft shell crab sitting atop fried green tomato and fried eggplant medallions with a cajun hollandaise sauce. Perfectly cooked- fried to perfection - and the sauce? Outta this world!! The waiter even comped us a dessert and because we could decide put a little of each- Creme brûlée with chocolate covered strawberries, and the coconut cream bread pudding- both really delicious. Service outstanding. Love the atmosphere- funky murals all over the walls and original Nola artists paintings (Frenchy, mich, etc.) its touristy but in a superb way! Why the 4? It’s friggin hot in there and the tables are incredibly close together. It deserves a 4.8 but that’s not possible on google review. Have been here many many times- consistent quality, service, experience... Highly recommend
Ray
The chicken was so good, fresh and delicious. The yams and red beans and rice was great. I had to see what the fuss was about.
Doug Williams
Awesome food, and Rum Punch!
Alexis Truskolawski
This restaurant is SO fun! If you want true New Orleans food this is the place to go, we came for dinner for my sisters bachelorette party and it was fabulous! It is pricier but you get SO MUCH FOOD! We could not eat it all and our waitress Sarah was the best! I definitely recommend coming here! We showed up in colored wigs and outfits and fit right in!
Oliver Williams
One of the best restaurants in New Orleans. Everything on the menu is fantastic. Just order it all.
Dave Gallagher
Jacques-Imo's is a must visit place in New Orleans. The food is amazing and the restaurant itself is just a cool spot. You have to try the shrimp and alligator cheesecake and the brussel sprouts. I'll definitely be back.
Jeff Kaemmerling
Perfectly done, home style cooking in an actual house! Very traditional Louisiana cooking but with an incentive modern flair, full bar. Always a wait, so no biggie! Put your name in and step into the Maple Leaf bar next door for a beer and some of the best music I've ever heard in New Orleans! Truly
Chris P
Been eating here since the early 2000s. Great place. Our favorite restaurant in NOLA.
Fred Seelig
The food was good but not great -- and the prices were commensurate for "great," not "good." And don't expect craft cocktails here. Just order something simple. Likewise the beer selection looked par for the course in New Orleans: not bad at all, but not any better or more interesting than most places in NOLA.
Pat Lussenhop
Fantastic food, the jambalya was top notch. Fun atmosphere and decorations. Definitely a spot to check out. Can get busy but groups can get a reservation.
Brandon H
Food was phenomenal. The shrimp alligator cheesecake is a must try!
john Collins
Always a go to spot when we visit. Used to live here… loves it then, love it still. All entrees are around 30 so be ready for that but honestly, 100% worth the price. I have paid more money for lesser quality food in this town. Will come back many more times for as long as I can.
Audrey Escudero
I loved the place! The decoration, the originality and the food. I should say this is a most in New Orleans.
Mirabella Dawn
The service was great everyone was so nice and it felt like family but the food came so so so slow. We were waiting for almost 45 minuets. It's very loud and the food is ok. The cornbread at the beginning is so yummy! Overall it's not bad and a pretty good restaurant.
Evie Cheatham
The boudin balls were delicious and the service was phenomenal. Despite a full house, we were seated and served very quickly. Would highly recommend!
Eric
Simply one of the best places in New Orleans to eat. Awesome gumbo and service was outstanding.
Damo Manuel
The food was on point! Great staff. Look past the outer appearance and you end up with a perfect dinning experience.
Dani Arnold
Fun, funky atmosphere and tasty food (alligator cheesecake? Yes please!) Jacques-Imo's is one of those local spots you shouldn't miss.
Smith Atwood
Adina and Troy made the experience for us! Wonderful food, drinks, and laughs! Thank you!
Ronnie Hopkins
Totally awesome food!!Great atmosphere too. Recommended by my lodging concierge, glad I took the advice! Off the usual path ,just a bit out of downtown but well worth visiting.
traci kato-kiriyama
Standouts from what we ordered: alligator & turtle cheesecake (super rich and delicious); the swordfish; the smothered chicken and smothered potatoes; and of course the cornbread they sit you down with at the beginning. Overall - Good, rich, salty food.
Rick Balwani
Best food spot on my trip to New Orleans. Would definitely come here again and try some different things from the menu. Everything I ordered was amazing!
Allura Wheeler
Omg!!! This place is nothing short of amazing. From the food to the service everybody and everything was exceptional!
Richard Ra
It's dang good and the waitress appeared magically whenever I needed her. So, good food good service
Roslyn Rosales
Had the best meal during my stay in NOLA. The corn bread, maque choux, and the venison I ordered were incredible. It was warm enough for outside seating, so it was a wonderful dining experience. Definitely going back when I visit again in 3 weeks!
Father & Son Adventure Discovery Rides
This was freaking fantastic! Stuffed porkchop was delish, all the vegetables were incredible and the coconut bread pudding was awesome as well. Wait staff was great and attentive. Thanks for making for a great date with my beautiful wife.
Kylie Locke
Best dining experience we have had in a long time. Boudin balls and fried chicken were insane. Damien was an exceptional server!
C Zimmerman
We ate the food too fast to take pictures. We’re so thankful the streetcar operator shared this local gem with us! Food and service were outstanding. Best we had on our whole trip. You will not be disappointed.
Jasmine .H
Wow amazing service and food. Had the rabbit foot, complimentary corn bread and salad was great. The waitress did a great job selling the special, all staff worked as a team. The bbq shrimp was seasoned so well it was super delicious. The sides are small but the main dishes are HUGE. which I enjoyed, boyfriend had the soft shell crab which was huge. His meal literally could feed 2. Overall great atmosphere and welcoming its like getting a home cooked meal. Very homey.
Arin Canbolat
A must go spot if visiting New Orleans. Prices may seem a bit high on the entrees, but you get two sides and a spinach salad with it. Service is great and the owner walks around to say hi and check on everyone. Food is fantastic!
Don Talbot
Staff was courteous, quick to please and masked. The menu had great choices. They have at least 2 buildings, next to each other. The decor was all New Orleans. Our food was all great. The only negative was the room we were in was noisy. But a great outing!
George Baluski
Excellent food , a must try Shrimp,Alligator sausage cheesecake. Great service
Mike Martin
The most eclectic unusual exceptionally cool places I have ever eaten. I had shrimp and alligator sausage cheesecake. It was one of the best and unique things I've ever had! Incredible!!!
Hugo Arzac
Awesome food! A little pricey but great unique place staff was. It friendly
John Hatheway
Amazing restaurant. Great atmosphere. Great selection of craft beers and homemade cocktails. Fantastic service. Cool neighborhood.
Amanda Toups
Jacques-Imo's has outstanding food and hospitality! Our group had a reservation and the party before us stayed beyond their welcome, putting us over 30 minutes behind. The hostess sent 3 appetizers and dessert to our table on the house. Not only were we well taken care of, the service was friendly and fast, and the food was out of this world. You MUST go here!!
Jay D
An amazing, eclectic menu with great service despite the sign over the entrance. Highly recommended.
Trevor Hatfield
Food was delicious of course! But what made this place stand out was the service!
David Nash
This is a twenty year old review. I had to look up the name of the restaurant for an email I was writing. I ate here in the early 2000's after seeing in on one of the original restaurant review shows on Food Network. It was absolutely one of the best meals I have had in my life. Alligator cheesecake, layered soft shell crab I think was called Godzilla something. Atmosphere and staff were fantastic. It looks like from the reviews it hasn't changed. That's amazing. Some memories you just don't forget.
William Spencer
Favorite place we’ve been to so far. This was our first time in New Orleans together as a couple and we were relying strictly on word of mouth for where we went to spend our time. A bartender in a hotel lounge on bourbon street where we stopped to watch the ball game recommended this spot. The paneer rabbit and the alligator and crawfish cheesecake is are phenomenal. Great service and atmosphere is very cool. Small, intimate and comfortable. I really liked that we walked through the kitchen to be seated. It was a good look at what’s going on behind the scenes. It shows confidence. What an awesome vibe here. It was such a great place. Bronze, our server, gave us some great recommendations and even brought us dessert. We’ll be back. I have to try the duck.
Rachel C
Get the alligator cheesecake and the stuffed catfish- Both are delicious and flavourful. Service is fantastic and the decor is awesome.
David Bailey
One of my favorite NOLA experiences. The alligator cheesecake is a must!
Joe Christiano
This place is awesome. Some of the best redfish I ever had in my life
JoJene Mills
Definitely worth the Uber ride. Great New Orleans fare, excellent service. Go to the Maple Leaf Bar for drinks after. What a find!
M C
Too much dang food is the biggest problem with this place. So not much to complain about. Staff are super friendly despite how stupidly busy it is.
Wasn't blown away by my main but these things happen. Great value for money, great location, great atmosphere and love the slightly cheesey music too.
Karchema Porter
Love Mr Kevin he is good people. Everyone one was very knowledgeable about the inventory
Todd Malone
Wonderful food, fun atmosphere. A bit loud as the restaurant was full.
Darian Hosch
The food was some of the absolute best Cajun food I have ever eat. The restaurant itself gives a person that real “New Orleans” experience. The service was excellent and prices were reasonable.
Joe Williams
Food was delicious. Atmosphere was wonderful. Wait staff was very attentive, friendly and helpful
Brett Marcotte
Absolutely amazing. Word of mouth recommendation from a friend led us here down the st Charles streetcar line. Fun ride to a funky neighborhood with a casual feel compared to the frenetic energy of the french quarter. The service and food were impeccable. To be seated they brought us through a spotless kitchen. That takes confidence to lead your guests right through the kitchen. The food did not disappoint. My wife had the grouper and it was light and flaky with a delicious pesto sauce. My etouffee was spectacular and the brussel sprouts were crispy and crunchy.
Overall amazing.
John Mikula
Food was great! Service was great! For a party of 8 they did a great job. I would advise reservations.
Van N
Great food with generous portions and phenomenal service.
Filip Simic
Phenomenal food & phenomal atmosphere.... Although, I must say the music choice was a bit of a surprise at first, but it was good!
dieter block
Great food, great service. Quaint really cool place, definitely coming back. Although do to is awesomeness it gets crowded, expect some waiting time.
hector sandoval
Great restaurant , the food is awesome and so is the service.
Jeff Marsicano
Great cajun spot. One of the long time favorites. Food and service were great.
Jeremiah Willis
This is the best food I have had anywhere in the United States. Only reason we don't go more often is A the price and B ghey are ALWAYS BUSY . I recommend the lamb.
Christine Gregory
Worth the drive!! Everything was delicious, service was on point! So delicious. Try the alligator cheesecake.
Cho Yau Ling
The wait was long, but well worth it. Best dishes were the alligator cheesecake and that incredible deep fried roast beef po boy. I would avoid the etouffee.... There are better at other places.
Matthew
This place is really amazing. Every dish we tried had a lot of its own unique flavor. The staff here are excellent!
Stephanie
Doug was WONDERFUL!!! The food was great and the atmosphere made the experience.
Renee Alfery
Amazing food!! Absolutely worth the wait! Great atmosphere and fabulous staff.
Kathryn Bryant
Our servers were extremely nice, but it took over 40 minutes before we even got our salads, though the dressing on the spinach salads was delicious. Our entrees however were not especially good. Not terrible, but not good. The prices for sides was very reasonable, and they give a hefty portion of food, but the prices were slightly steep for some of the other dishes. Lighting was somewhat odd, as it was red and green? It was also rather noisy thanks to first the table next to us and then the music being turned up a bit high. We also noticed a few bugs. Flies are pretty unavoidable this time of year, and we only saw one which is amazing, but there were a couple small crawling bugs on the table.
Kevin Donohue
Great food , wonderful service. Highly recommend shrimp and alligator cheesecake appetizer. Definitely a good time
john champagne
Unique uptown Nawlin's cajun Creole soulfood. I got the blackened red fish special topped with a Korean sauce of shrimp and crawfish.
Brock Cheeley
So good! Great food and even greater service. If I could give 6 stars I would.
Rebecca Lea
AMAZING food and very friendly staff! I have allergies and the chef made my food special off the menu - it was unbelievably delicious, I didn't leave a single bite on the plate. I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you're visiting new Orleans, you should definitely make a reservation!
D.E. W.
If you’re staying in the French quarter or really anywhere else in the New Orleans area- this place is worth the $15 Uber ride. It’s a gem. They have a charming vibe; complete with a quirky walk directly though the kitchen. The food is so Damn good- we had the fried green tomatoes, mussels, fried chicken, stuffed catfish, grouper and specialty rib eye- all perfectly cooked and dressed with southern style sides. The entrees were in the +/- $30 range but worth it. the real standout was the homey-ness. Our sever was so congenial- paid attention to our little comments and let us try an app that we were in the fence about to even treating our birthday girl to some of the most delicious bread pudding we’ve ever tried.
Lynzee Villafranca
Definitely lives up to the hype. Scrumptious food in a laid-back atmosphere made for a wonderful experience.
Tyrone Jenkins
Love, love, LOVE! JUST GO! You won't regret it.
Kimberly Haisten
This place was highly recommended and it did not disappoint! Delicious food, great atmosphere and wonderful service!
Amy Rose
Yummmmmmmmmm the eggplant dish was AMAZING. Also, you have to try the alligator cheesecake. Just do it.
Jakeb Riley
Excellent food with charismatic staff in a quiet part of town. My only criticism was that our sides were not as high quality as the main entrees. Only worth complaining about given the $32< per-plate price tag.
Jessica Buchman
My husband and I met here 4 1/2 years ago on a blind date and have returned many times. Everything about this place is good. Awesome food, service, and atmosphere. Totally worth the wait.
Nicki Ivey
Must try!! This place was one of my favorites! I look at reviews when deciding on where to eat while out of town! This place was recommended and I’m sure glad it was! The alligator-shrimp cheesecake appetizer is a sure thing! You will not be disappointed! The service and food was outstanding! The specials that evening was grilled/blackened grouper-amazing!
Skylar Faunt
My fiancé and I had an awesome dinner at this restaurant! The customer service was great. Our server was friendly & attentive and did a great job of letting us know about the specials for the evening. I ended up having the soft shell crab, my fiancé had the fried chicken. Both dinners were delicious. must try
Lauren S
Love that you can now make a reservation, even for two! Food was excellent and there were several entrees I would like to go back for. I had the blackened redfish with the chili hollandaise which was excellent. Not too much spice, but fish and sauce were perfect. The chef came out....very personable. Service was great, although the appetizers were limited from past visits. Understandable with the pandemic, but definitely will go back.

Shrimp alligator cheesecake was amazing !!! Loved the blackened red fish too. Service was ok but food was amazing :)
Jeff Carlton
Fun place, really good food and service. Thanks for having us.
Kristyl Dwyer
A true gem! This place has a great atmosphere, coupled with excellent food and even better service. Our server Marie made sure we were very happy with everything. Our glasses were always full, and they made sure we had plenty of their cornbread. The owner was very nice as well. This was one of my favorite places, and i will definitely be returning!!!
Erin Schaefer
Ah-maaaaazing!!!!! Sadly I didn't get any photos, because I was drooling too much to reach for my camera. Hands down one of the best places we've enjoyed. Recommended by Chef Brannon Soileau from B.O.S.S. Bagel in San Antonio (also amazing, btw!), we had to check it out and get the shrimp & alligator sausage cheesecake. Such a weird thing, you'd think, but it was one of the most gratifying sensations for my tastebuds. Everything was perfection from start to finish, including atmosphere, staff, menu...the whole experience is single-handedly worth the trip back to Nola.
K Love
Everything is good here. I got the Roast beef Poboy and it was so good.
Mark Sheldon
Excellent Cajun food, great service, and generous cocktails. Get out of the French quarter and try this place.
Christophe Duret
Fantastic cosy, relaxed atmosphere. Good, but a bit heavy food
Jennifer Masdon
Food was amazing. Atmosphere wonderful; although, the music was a little loud to have a comfortable conversation. The servers were kind and knowledgeable. Really would give them a 4.75 star rating if that was an option.
Curtis Brown
The food was soooo good! Our sever Doug was very attentive and had great recommendations. A bit pricey so come prepared but this is some of the best food I’ve had here in NOLA. The redfish was amazing!!
Phillips King
Blackened Redfish and Duck and Andouille Gumbo were both fantastic. The Fried Calamari app was excellent as well. Such a fun atmosphere and great service, on top of such good food, mean we will be returning any time we are in town.
Jes M
This is definitely a great place to celebrate a special occasion! Strong drinks, delicious food. Our server Ian was a delight :)
Janet P
Awesome dining experience! There was not one thing that was not exceptional from the time we walked in to the time we left. The service was above and beyond, our waiter could not have been any better. And the food was fabulous!
I was with a group of 4, so we all ordered a different entrée so we could sample more of the menu options. All were absolutely delicious! Of course we had to get the alligator cheesecake appetizer, which was wonderful, much better than I expected. We also had their signature cocktails. The rum punch was my favorite! Most places that I have dined here in New Orleans have not lived up to the hype, this one definitely does. Don't miss out on coming here. There is usually a line, but it is well worth the wait!
Matt Zelonka
I come here every trip to NOLA.. never ever disappointed. The best + A#1 . Prices are fair also.. update 2022.. menu seems to be slightly limited, more towards seafood. That is ok, still same great food !
Wouter de Bie
Fun, good and affordable restaurant on Oak street. The portions are large the drinks are strong and the staff is really nice!
We went one evening with friends and got seemed in their second room on the left side, which is separate. Staff brings food from one building to the other, which is quite the sight.
I really enjoyed the non-pretentious and relaxed atmosphere.
Sarah Byers
We had a party of 8 with reservations and the restaurant seemed pretty packed all around. Highly recommend reservations. Staff was friendly, service great. Asked about/conscious of any food allergies. Watermelon mojito is where it's at! My table also got the alligator cheesecake which everyone enjoyed (more like a frittata than dessert cheesecake.) My husband loved his Cajun bouillabaisse.
Tim Masdon
Nice place to visit, music playing was way to loud for casual conversation. Tables are way to close, the gentleman next to me had his back right in my elbow. The waiter was excellent. The food was good. Steak a little over cooked but tasty.
Jonathan Brown
My favorite in the city. The rabbit is great, so is the venison. Everything is super rich and packed with flavor! Grab a drink and catch a show next door at the Maple Leaf while you’re at it!
James Boyle
The food was amazing!!! The shrimp- alligator cheesecake app was spectacular as was the fried chicken. Service was impeccable and the atmosphere was great!!
Barbara Zelonka
There is a reason you have to wait an hour for a table! Don't let that stop you. This is a "can't miss" place when we come to New Orleans. The lamb chops are one of my favs
Glynn Roberts
Hole in the wall gem!!! Awesome fried chicken and red beans w/rice. Love going through the kitchen to be seated and smelling/seeing all the flavors & dishes
J R VanOrder
Amazing atmosphere and food!
Cameron Grant
It’s been 17 years since I ate here last, and tonight I got to bring my family for the first time ever. Jacques-imo’s did NOT disappoint! Still as amazing as ever - maybe even tastier. The duck gumbo and rabbit sirloin were both phenomenal; the stuffed catfish was to die for! More than the food, though, the service was just amazing. Every staff member was kind and thoughtful, even charging my partner’s phone while we ate. Also... tonight was my daughter’s birthday and the staff made the experience wonderful - even getting the other guests in their intimate dining room involved.
I can’t recommend this place enough! Thanks y’all for being so amazing!
Paula Snow
Excellent service and food. Alligator sausage cheesecake was incredible! Same with boudin balls and gumbo!
Andrew Crosby
One of my favorite New Orleans restaurants. They have created and amazing menu and atmosphere. Gotta try the alligator cheesecake, boudin balls, blackened redfish, stuffed catfish, and creme brulee. Can't wait to go back.
Suzanne Cox
We drove from Baton Rouge to eat at your place. We got the Venison, alligator cheesecake, crispy brussel sprouts, potato salad and the fabulous cornbread and bread pudding you threw in for free! It was delicious! The service was incredible. Y'all came to my car to take my order and take our payment! This was a fantastic experience! We will be back soon.
Christopher Stevens (Chris)
A genuine New Orleans experience, great food and people. Little to dislike.
Gilbert Ruiz de Esparza
Awesome experience, fantastic atmosphere, GREAT service, and excellent food!!
Steve Hajec
Great atmosphere and wait staff, and the food was excellent!
Lloyd Simmons
Lines are long, atmosphere is extremely cozy, staff are very busy. Had a vegetarian in the party, so told the server. He then put the vegetable items on the same plate touching the meat. Nonetheless, the food was fantastic and worth the trip one time. Set your expectations and go enjoy yourself.
Charles Franklin
Soft shell crab and crab stuffed shrimp was awesome.
neris
Everything is great from friendly servers to incredible food!
Todd Williams
The atmosphere here is eclectic and unique. The food was delectable, and just as delicious as you would hope for. The sausage and alligator cheesecake was a delight and the fried chicken is not to be missed. Fresh ingredients mixed with an amazing staff make this place a definite go-to restaurant if visiting New Orleans. I will be back and I cannot wait to try more of their food!
Martin Gibbs
Great place for creole food in a lively, loud atmosphere! It’s now my go-to spot to show out-of-towners a good authentic local restaurant. No music, but it doesn’t need it. (And I’m a music person to the core!) The place is covered with posters from floor to ceiling and all over the ceiling too!
Jen Kovacs
Eggplant boats are heavenly. Crawfish étouffée was also very good. Drinks were also delicious. Gumbo is done German style with the egg salad which was also a nice change of pace from many Nola places. Fun atmosphere but definitely not much social distancing going on in the main dining rooms and the bathroom definitely hadn’t been cleaned in a long time.
Lora Haimes
Amazing food! You have to try the Shrimp and Alligator sausage cheesecake! The atmosphere of this place is so fun and kitschy - don’t miss it if you’re visiting New Orleans!
Dustin Quiel
This place is far off the beaten path if you are a tourist in New Orleans, but we'll worth the trip. The ambiance and service was great and the food even better. I had the swordfish special for entree and the shrimp and alligator cheesecake. If you come here, you must try the shrimp and alligator cheesecake. Wow! Don't get discouraged by the name. It is made to look like a slice of cheesecake, but it is not a desert.
Sam Jones
Eclectic, classic NOLA eatery. Lamb chops to die for, fish, duck, venison, rabbit all on the menu! The place was crowded and we still got in. Super service. Definitely staying on my favorites list.
Ang Hegel
Awesome vibe. Get the Alligator Cheesecake, you won't be disappointed!
Brenda Gilmore
We had to sit outside because of covid restrictions but honestly, that was to our favor. Such fantastic service. Food was superb. If you don't eat here...your missing out!
Merlin Bardhi
Delicious food made with love, beautiful decor, fresh beverages & friendly service! A must try!
Tony Wisniewski
This place really lives up to it's reputation for fine food and local flare. We had to wait a bit to be seated as the dining room is a little small (and packed! Lots of people like it here), but it was well worth it. Grab a drink at the bar, strike up a conversation. Take it all in and get ready for a fantastic meal! I had the stuffed pork chop, terrific!
Cameron Kerr
Best food I have had all week while here in NOLA. BY FAR the best service we have received as well as the fastest kitchen. Ben really took care of us the whole time we were there. Definitely coming back everytime I’m here
Charlotteanne Barbour
Always a fantastic place to go for a special occasion or date night. The staff are very knowledgeable and make you feel welcome as soon as you step into the main bar. Food is pricey, however each dish captures the essence of Louisiana in every bite which makes it worth every penny. 10/10 will always recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a true New Orleans food experience.
James Fenimore
This place was fantastic!! Must try the cheesecake appetizer!!
Armand
The food here is amazing!!! Great service and great people!!!
Pitt Daddydiesel
Fun little local spot outside the french quarter that is totally worth the trip to check out. A very unique atmosphere and a unique menu. We had alligator cheesecake, which was awesome, lamb, and the fried chicken. While I have had better fried chicken in other parts of the south, this is by far the best in the area. I would definitely recommend this place and it's a great spot to get away from the crazy of the french quarter.
Drew Dodenhoff
Friendly service; owner came buy and introduced himself; delicious food. I had a great fish dish. Fabulous Creme Brulee.
Robert McQueen
Absolutely delicious!! For months I stared at the shrimp and alligator cheesecake and it did NOT disappoint!! Easily one of my favorite things I've eaten. The stuffed catfish was phenomenal! It's a wonderfully fun and lively place with a super friendly staff!! Highly recommend!!
Matthew Gibson
Recommended by a few locals, I thought I'd check this place out. I was told that this is an excellent example of New Orleans cuisine and is one if the restaurants that would be considered "original New Orleans cuisine." What phenomenal food. It honestly made me rethink all the other ratings I've given because I can't go higher than five. Staff was friendly and atmosphere was unique. The menu was hard to choose because everything looked so good. Will be returning to Jacques-Imo's next time I am in town.
Gin 2324
The wait was ridiculously long for a Thursday night, & the place was packed! The hostess was pulling her hair out & we almost opted for something easier, but thank goodness we didn’t! The service was fabulous, & right on time for everything! The food, OMG the food!!! This place is packed for a good reason! The cuisine was awesome. The fish, shrimp, pork chops, lord, so divine. We HATE waiting for a table like anyone, but we will be back, the wait be damned!
Matthew Brown
Unique spot with fantastic food, high prices, quirky service, and very little elbow room. Expect a wait, expect to spend a good chunk of change with entrees from $25 to $35.
Sampled 2 appetizers which were both delicious, one thoroughly unique: Alligator & Shrimp Cheesecake. Entrees are a high price, but delicious and well crafted with the local New Orleans flair, offering boiled shellfish, catfish, gator, and a good smattering of comfort classics like fried chicken.
The place is small, tightly packed, and suffers from a want of space as you may end up sitting alone in the front window or just below a table of ten, your face level with the seats of their chairs.
Our server was... extremely relaxed. This made for a comical though perfectly satisfactory experience outside the expectations of traditional restaurant service. Everything was delivered correctly and the experience was very easy and friendly.
I'd highly recommend this place for a special visit during a trip to New Orleans, frequent public transportation will get you very close but street parking is available as well. Reservations are only for groups of at least 5, so be ready to wait even on a weekday.
John Harris
Such a fun local legend. Small, boisterous atmosphere and really great southern food. I had the blackened redfish and it was amazing.
Balkan
Just visiting the city and this is the first great meal I had. Crawfish etouffee and side dishes were perfect. And the brussel sprout appetizer is the food of the gods. Really, it's life changing. Since I got take out I can't speak to the service but everyone I encountered was super sweet. And the restaurant looked charming and comfy, not the least bit pretentious. Solid 5 star experience.
Jay Si
Good food and service. Tight spaces for tables.
Don Callahan
Went and were lucky to get in and be seated. My girl had the special, lamb shank, and I decided to try the Crawfish Etouffee...I'm from here so I've had plenty of Etouffee in the past..this one was excellent, and a real pleasant surprise. The lamb was perfect and delicious...also the cornbread was a revelation...the best ever...has ruined me for all other cornbread..😆..the staff was on point, and always checking with us..if you're like me and you've heard of it but never been...Go! It was awesome!
Donovan McCrea
I'm amazed by Jacques-Imos. You get a Louisiana feel with great quality food and beverages. I ordered the Crab Grouper with Creole as a second entree. Red rice, beans and mashed potatoes as sides. Crab stuffed shrimp to start. The fried shrimp tasted like it was breaded with cornbread. The seafood quality was excellent, all of it. The shrimp Creole sauce was so good I was licking my plate, no lie. And the grouper was coated with a crab layer on top. It was even better than I expected given the fact that everyone hyped up the restaurant. Great service, great food, go check it out.
crawford lloyd
I ate here last this place had it all, good atmosphere, good service, great food. The bartender recommended the duck and it was perfect. There is more I want to try definitely try to go back.
Jason Thomson
Great food, great service, great drinks, good music. The alligator and shrimp cheesecake sounds weird but is amazing. The creme brulee wasn't great, that's the only less than wonderful thing about the experience.
KIMBERLY ISSUKI
EVERYTHING was on point! The food was amazing! We had the boudin balls, rabbit, alligator cheesecake, jambalaya, fried chicken, rack of lamb and each was super flavorful and delicious! Service was impeccable, drinks were great! Highly recommend. This is a definite repeat place whenever we’re in NOLA
Monica Rivers
Food was delicious!!! I've been to New Orleans like 5 times and never heard of this place. It was recommended by our BnB host, Kim... I had the salmon dinner with red beans&rice. So darn good. I took a star off because I ordered two cocktails from the bar, both were pretty nasty.
Juliana Cloud
Not what it used to be. Is there new management or maybe just the impact of Covid??! I had grouper with the crawfish and mushrooms on top and hubby had the country fried venison. Grouper was over seasoned so much so all I could taste was the seasoning. I had to stop eating it after a few bites. The venison was very tasty but gravy was way too salty. Sides were just okay, nothing special. (Food used to be amazing!) Fried green tomatoes with shrimp remoulade was fine.
We asked for our cocktails first to enjoy them while leisurely deciding on the menu but waiter encouraged us to order then because meals are prepared to order and could take some time. We were in and out within 45 minutes...might be good if in a hurry, but we were not. Overall, servers and staff were friendly and attentive, but sadly food was under par for this iconic eatery.
Corey Franks
Wow the food was simply amazing! Staff was friendly and did I mention how good the food was?
Holly Iliff
Unique, delicious, quality. Will be back every year I return to NOLA. Jacque, owner, is present and happy going table to table to thank his customers and truly wants to get to know them.
Kerri Donnelly
This was my first time there and I am a local! FANTASTIC! The fish was cooked to perfection and a very generous portion. I dining partner ordered the soft shell crab special and said he was fantastic as well. The service was superb. I will be back!
Kate Kosche
I went here with daughter and group of her friends. I kinda wanted to NOT like this place. It seemed (before I got there) like it was going to be too touristy, too weird, all hype, no good food. But I was wrong. We had a great time, the food was terrific, the service was great (other than the 50 minute wait for a table, on a Monday, in June, with no festivals happening) but I was pretty much forewarned about that issue. The place is funny, funky, and has a terrific bar with excellent bartenders so the wait didn't seem so bad. Big portions. The shrimp and alligator cheesecake was fantastic! Quirky atmosphere. They waltzed us right through the kitchen to get to our table. Bathroom is tiny, in kitchen. Be prepared, but come ready to have a good time and really good food!
Terry Colquhoun
What a great, unique place. Excellent taste of NOLA food and drink in a great atmosphere. Try it!
Michael Teleha
Back in town just in time for the end of summer break and the reopening!! Every item is as good as I remember. Great meal with great friends in a favorite restaurant. Strict enforcement is COVID vaccine cards. Nice!!
Jason Andreas
Don't get me wrong, New Orleans has amazing food on every single corner. But, if you want a place the local citizens will gladly line up for, a true testament to the quality, flavor and price, then Jacques-Imo's Cafe is the spot for you.
The restaurant was very accommodating and helped host our party of 23 on a Saturday night. Even though the actual dining space is quite small, we had plenty of room and the service was phenomenal.
The only downside of this place is that after dinner I was so full of good food that I almost went back to the hotel and went to bed :)
Highly recommended food, service and experience!
Stephen Webb
My first time, everything was wonderful. A true Nawlins classic. Everyone should experience this culinary masterpiece.
Billy Crews
Totally enjoyed my first visit and shall return!
Bill Henriques
I really enjoyed dinner here. The portions are big so pace yourself! There are so many amazing dishes to choose from I had difficulty selecting my entree so I just went with the red fish which is great but kind of boring for a local. I should have gotten the stuffed catfish which sounded amazing. I guess I need to go back.
We got there at 5pm to beat the rush but it didn't really get busy (in the Summer) until 6 or so. They were very nice and actually let us get in early to beat the heat.
Eric Borlaug
Very good, trendy, creative hybrid cuisine, mixing old and new creole approaches. One of the very best restaurants in a city filled with great ones. In a great neighborhood. Check out Maple Leaf Bar next door if you come up.
Abe Elsaeed
Great service and amazing food!
So we came a bit early and thought we’d have to wait for the place to open! They let us in, sat us down and started taking our order 20 minutes before opening time. We had like 5 separate folks help out with our table, they were all very friendly.
The place is extremely clean and has a super funky vibe. Ooh you walk in through the kitchen, which tells you they have nothing to hide!!
We do t eat pork so we had the stuffed shrimp appetizer. Just fabulous!!!
The Mrs had the NO barbecue shrimp which is possibly the best shrimp I have had.....ever!
I had the seared drum fish, and it was amazing also.
Possibly the best place we ate at during our trip to New Orleans.
Oooh and save room for the creme brûlée.
Adam Pearce Music
Amazing food, amazing atmosphere. Great service. Expect a wait unless you come early Monday or Tuesday. Grab a drink next door at Maple Leaf while you wait if you go on the weekend. Any attire is acceptable. You'll find a menu with a fair selection of options that you won't find anywhere else. If you're visiting from out of town with friends, each order an appetizer and pass them around!
Riley Violet
This place is incredible. They have a really unique menu that encompasses a diverse mix of meats and dishes you won't see many other places. The service is top notch. The decor and atmosphere are fun, funky, and festive. The food is top notch, starting with the salad topped with a fried oyster, the garlic corn bread, and continuing on to literally whatever else you order. Loved by locals and people from out of town alike, Jacques-Imo's is not to be missed.
Maja Sljivic
Food was so delish
I had lamb chop with sauce mashed potatoes
And lentils. My husband had carpetbagger steak and it was truly fantastic!!!!
Chad Wilson
This was an interesting layout. A restaurant in a shotgun style house. They really had to work things around to get it all in there. I thought the food was a little pricey but it was good.
Emanuel Stiles
This is quintessential New Orleans dining. Located in a cozy but always crowded space, Jacques-Imos slings up traditional comfort food with fancy options as well. Fried Chicken, smothered chicken, venison, rabbit, oysters, it's all here. I especially like the fried rabbit on pasta dish, and the pan fried drum...they're both amazing. Keep in mind, they don't take reservations unless your party is 5 or more. I'd recommend getting here early because they get crowded fast.
Kirsten Tenney Bush (she, her)
Casual atmosphere, with some of the best food I've ever had! We went twice during our 5 days in New Orleans. The corn bread is super good. Salad and sides are just okay. Watermelon mojito had lots of watermelon chunks, which I loved! The dishes I tried we're the salmon, the stuffed eggplant, and the duck breast. All the portion sizes are quite large. The salmon was well seasoned, stuffed with something wonderful, and topped with a creamy sauce. The eggplant is a whole half of an eggplant fried and stuffed with all sorts of seafood and a wonderful creamy sauce. The duck breast was my personal favorite. So well seasoned, perfectly cooked, and the sauce was so good!
Mike Bradley
A friend brought us here. Great Cajun food!! Definitely made our trip!!
Ginger Huge
The food and staff were amazing! We had crab stuffed shrimp for an appetizer, very yummy. And we shared the grouper topped with crab in a hollandaise sauce, which was incredible along with the red beans & rice and the greens were the best we have ever had.
C Peek
Funky place, with eclectic decor. 4 out of our 5 dishes were delicious, but the special of the night, soft-shelled crab was horrible. Quite disappointing. Cornbread muffins were fantastic as was the service. Not as great as all the hype but it was a good meal.
Justin Hill
I do not have the words. Delicious and down-home and funky and great. It feels like a New Orleans jazz concert on a plate if that makes sense. It’s unique and Cajun and a lot of fun. Next door is a great bar. Take the street car and enjoy the view.
Julie Xiao
This is my favorite restaurant in New Orleans. It's a bit of a trek from the French Quarter but it's worth it. The place gets crowded so go there early. We went there when it opens at 5pm. Be aware, it's closed on Sundays. The decor is very quirky and very homey. We ordered the alligator cheesecake (which everyone orders), duck gumbo, and shrimp etouffee. They gave us complimentary cornbread and an appetizer spinach salad with a fried oyster on top which was nice. The food was delicious and pretty authentic Cajun food. The staff are very friendly and attentive. I will always come back here if I'm in New Orleans.
Lucy Fischman
I wanted to eat so much more bc everything was SO GOOD, but i was stuffed. Pace yourself! Had a nice martini while we waited about 25 minutes for a table for 2...no problem. They text you, so you could wait outside if you wanted to. There are so many great menu choices and the special - Brussels sprouts with chili glaze- were wonderful. Do not miss this place. Lots of shops along the street too.
Peter R.
Could easily have stopped with the crawfish and gator cheesecake and left this place quite happy. The cornbread was simply delicious. Had the fried rabbit over pasta, tasso and shrimp. Also pretty darn good, though at $32 and change, seemed a bit pricey. We had heard to expect long lines but went on a Wednesday night, which was during their "slow" time, so we only waited about 20 minutes. Some free and nice little dessert nibbles at the end were a great touch.
Jeff Schram
Phenomenal meal. We had the drum and redfish. Succulent sauces highlighted the perfectly cooked fresh fish. The best meal we had in New Orleans by far. Ate here 19 years ago and the food continues to be some of the finest in the city. Wow! A great destination!
Benton Watson
The food. The drinks. The place/atmosphere. The staff. Wow. You need to try this place. And that's all I gotta say about dat!
David King
The saving grace of my New Orleans trip. After trying multiple places for food and drinks I found this little gem. Even at 8:30 at night on a Monday evening there was an hour and a half wait. The bar tenders were very effective while you waited for your table. The food was spot on and the side dishes were just as good. Try the potato crusted drum fish, cooked perfectly. As for the desserts...I passed after seeing what the table ordered. Creme brulee over cooked, the dish was only half filled and the sugar was barely caramelized. But I still had a great time and dinner was the best.
Keith Waguespack
Food was delicious. Duck breast was great taste. Grilled catfish with crabmeat stuffing. Cornbread ALL Great. Very very well run kitchen. Clean kitchen. Will go back to eat again. Waitstaff was awesome.
C QUEBRAL
Amazing! The server (Brent?) was extremely kind and accommodating, the food was ON POINT👌🏼the salad was unexpected and not quite to my taste but literally EVERYTHING else was indescribably delicious! The cornbread, the Brussels sprouts, the redfish, the sweet potatoes! Oh and don’t forget the coconut bread putting!!! I will definitely be returning to this place on my next trip to NOLA! Also it says expect a line, we came on a Monday at 5pm and had no wait but it did fill up quick. Not sure if it’s always like that or if we just got lucky!
Nikki Chirico
My husband and I are visiting New Orleans and dined at Jacques Imo tonight which is our last night. The restaurant is in a big Southern style house with a ton of charm. The entire staff was extremely pleasant but I must say our waiter Brent stood out and provided us with some of the best service we’ve had while dining out. He was friendly, recommended items and checked in frequently. The food and Brent are two big reasons that I would visit here again.
hong chao
The decor, ambiance, and staff were extremely pleasant and unique. If it is not too busy, walk around to check out the articles on the wall and enjoy the artworks.
The starting cornbread was delicious and the eggplant and cheesecake (more of a quiche) were pleasant. Fried chicken seemed to marinaded with vinegar, or some type of pungent flavor - which to say not too pleasing but addicting. Overall a pleasant experience but nothing to blow out the competition.
Patricia Costa
What a great place to eat and enjoy your dinner! We were greeted by everyone with a smile and our waiter Errol was such a joy to talk to and hang with. Gave us other restaurants to check out too while in town. But this place had the best food by far during our first 2 day stay, and we ate at alot of places up until that point! The decor was so cozy and cool and all our food dishes hands down were all absolutely flavorful & delicious. The owner was around and came over to speak with us and it was cool to know he had the restaurant for almost 30 years! A real cool & kind guy. Cheers to another 30 years+!! We were also waited as soon as we got there and within the first hr the place filled quickly with customers, so you already know this is the spot to be! The grilled redfish was the best I ever had & definitely try their brussel sprouts & endless cornbread!! Enjoy!
Jim Sarmiento
Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Great atmosphere. More than I expected
sebastian escobar
Amazing! Loved everything I ate here
Wendy
Just had a 1 year ago memory photo pop up from eating here and reminded me of how awesome it is. Small place with amazing food. You need to eat here. I'll be back for sure.
Kevin Mabey
Wow! If you are interested in real Cajun cooking, this is a must visit in New Orleans. Eclectic menu inside an old home makes this a special place to enjoy a great meal. In the mood for alligator cheesecake? This menu is fun and creative! While the service is attentive but laid back. It's a local favorite and we'll worth it if you can get there.
Todd Raney
What a great discovery! Located a few miles outside the French Quarter, but I highly recommend visiting if you're in New Orleans! Fantastic!
Alyssa Carter
Absolutely loved Jacques-Imo's. We were fortunate to be staying nearby so were able to dine 3 times in 1 week. Watermelon mojito was fantastic, fried green tomatoes and fried grits were my favourite and the shrimp stuffed with crab was delicious. We can recommend them all. In fact, we did not even have an entre as the starters were so generous and delicious. The cornbread muffins were out of this world! Very comfortable and cozy ambiance.
Ramona G.
I go anywhere Anthony Bourdain has been, just to lick the ground. In this case, he ate in the truck out front, so that saved my tongue from some seriously filthy palate cleansing! Anyway, sat in the bar window seat just as the place reopened from Covid. Got to meet Jacques himself (or a clever imposter who hangs out there and is recognized by the staff... you never know!) Charming fellow, fun to talk to. Loved the corn bread, the best ever! All food delicious and worthy of having been brought to the public eye by Mr. Bourdain. You might have to wait, but there's a bar right there next door, so no problemo!
Annette Gaona
The food was delicious I had the PANEED RABBIT with mash potatoes and cabbage very big portions I had plenty of left overs. We recieved a bread pudding which tasted amazing. It's a bit pricey but you get a lot of food.
Mike Coon
One of the best "hole in the wall" restaurants I have ever been to. Truly friendly and attentive waitstaff, generous drinks, fantastic seafood...always something new along with the traditional New Orleans fare! Can't wait to have a chance to go back!
Wayne W
Went to Jacques-Imo’s for only the second time recently and absolutely loved the place. The drinks, appetizer, entree, and dessert were all 5 star. The food is as good as anything you can get in the city but in a laid back, eclectic atmosphere. The service was great and the staff friendly and welcoming. I will definitely be back for more.
Aaron Vernik
The food is amazing. Great cajun selections and large portions. I had the crawfish etouffee and the rabbit and sausage gumbo. They were both excellent. We also had the grilled oysters. They were also good. Service was great. It's a very popular place, crowded and noisy but not in a bad way. Worth the wait. In fact, wait at the Maple Leaf bar next door and grab a quick drink.
Amanda S
Service! I have never in my life had better service than I received here. I will say that in general, the service is exceptional in New Orleans, but this place goes above and beyond even the norm for New Orleans. I love that they have the kitchen in the middle of the restaurant. You walk through the open kitchen to get to tables in the back and while walking through, all of the chefs welcome you so genuinely and kindly. Our server and busboys were also very attentive, very friendly. We brought our four year old daughter and had her just eat off of our plates. Our entrees each came with a spinach salad with one fried oyster. He brought an extra spinach salad with fried oyster for her, even though she didn't have her own entree- so sweet! The salad and oyster were amazing btw! When you first sit down, they bring cornbread muffins with a garlic sauce on top that are out of this world. I'm drooling thinking about them and I am truly sad that I can't get them back home! Another kind thing was that a piece of catfish was ready before all of it was, so our server brought it to us so we could start eating and brought more once it was cooked! (I'm telling ya: service!) We tried both the creme brulee and the coconut bread pudding. I was VERY full, so they were hard to fit, but the creme brulee was the best I've ever had and the coconut bread pudding was the best bread pudding I've had too. This place is a must try if you are in the Big Easy.

Such a unique place, and the food was excellent!
Amy Brown
Went for a business trip dinner with coworkers and everything was great. Greeted with a smile, seated quickly at 7:30pm, had an efficient and knowledgeable server and the food was amazing. From Brussels appetizer to cornbread to oysters and our entrees, (fried chicken, etouffee, and friend drum fish) all outstanding!
David Katzner
Uptown spot that we took a streetcar to (a fantastic trip through some of N.O.'s most beautiful districts). There will be a wait and when they finally walk you through the busy kitchen to your table (very cool) you will be ready to eat. You are in the right place, from traditional to unique Cajun food, everything is terrific. The alligator pie, the BBQ shrimp, perfect fried chicken, and more are outstanding. (sorry for the pics, the lighting is "colorful")

The food was incredibly good but the best part of our visit was the staff. We had limited time and no other food options nearby within walking distance, having taken a Uber from the hospital. The hostess found a spot for us quickly and the waiter was great and super quick. I loved the atmosphere, quirky and eclectic. Felt like we were having dinner on someone's bayou back porch. Very cool place. I would love to go back when we have more time to relax and just take it in. There were 4 of us and we all loved our meal.
Tom Gillispie
Classic NOLA. Great selection and awesome food. Servers laid back but very attentive & flexible with our group of 5 old guys. Muffins are delicious. Fried green tomatoes with shrimp starter was perfect.
Jordan Morris
On our 3-day trip, this place stands out due to its uniqueness. Its known for its quirkiness and it lives up to it. You literally walk through the kitchen to be seated. The service is excellent. Plan to spend a little more here but its worth it for the unique atmosphere, creative meal options, and excellent service.
Kim Sears
It's a long wait but worth it!! Four of us and we enjoyed everything we had starting with the cornbread!!
Gigi Genna-Weinberg
This was our favorite restaurant in new Orleans! The staff, the owner, the FOOD!!! Such a great experience!
Kfr Newpage
Shrimp and alligator cheesecake fantastic, soft shell crab wow!
Andrew Baumgartner
Literally one of my favorite restaurants I've ever eaten at. Been a few years since I was last here, but hasn't changed one bit. Staff are great, but the food is by far the best in NOLA.
Keely Price
This place was really neat. Decor was really funky, nice lighting. Friendly wait staff. People were checking on us often. The food was really delicious. Southern comfort food for sure. The butter beans and corn bread were amazing.
Tim Tiemann
You'll have a significant wait, but it's worth it. The wait staff is personable, and efficient. The decor is charmingly funky and the food is clever and we'll presented twists on traditional New Orleans fare. Go next door to the Maple leaf while you wait and listen to great music. This is the best version of New Orleans culture.
Maggie Mae
Great service and bar ambiance. Very cute but still very "bar." Had the alligator cheesecake and redfish. Starter salad and cornbread were great. For being on "best thing I ever ate," the cheesecake was good not great for sure. The blackened redfish though was superb as was the smothered cabbage. Mashed Sweet potato let me down as it had too much sugar and sweetness.
Wil Schober
2nd time dining here. Celebrating stepson leaving for basic training for the LA National Guard. Food and service was top notch! Had lamb, bbq shrimp, and grouper. All was great, and they even comped us a delicious dessert! Definitely recommend. If you want great food with a cool vibe, this is your spot.
Kera
Amazing service delicious food. Get the cheesecake! Seriously worth the wait!
BJ McCurley
Freaking wow! Just insanely delicious. Had the shrimp and alligator cheesecake, maybe the most delicious thing I've ever eaten. No joke. BBQ shrimp with rice for entree. Crazy tasty. If you're in NOLA you should try it. Amazing.
Lacey Montgomery
I can’t wait to visit again! The chef made me a specialty vegan dish, spaghetti squash lodes with delicious veggies! Oh my goodness! The best ever.
Mary Molly
Authentic Creole cuisine in a quaint neighborhood. They made me an oyster lover with the grilled oysters. Gotta have the shrimp & alligator sausage cheesecake appetizer - amazing!!! Service was friendly and helpful in describing entrees. Can't wait to return... and this is my first trip to New Orleans.
Luca Chiellini
The food is amazing.
Do not miss friend shrimps with crab sauce and the cheesecake with shrimps and alligator.
I was by myself sit at the bar and had food fast. On a Saturday night people waited for 2 hours. I wouldn't wait that long even if the food is so great. Don't go in the weekend tooo busy!
Rashida Starks
I would return to New Orleans just to eat at this restaurant again. Initially, I only wanted to try the alligator sausage and shrimp cheesecake, but ended up ordering so much more! Thankfully, EVERYTHING was good and I am so glad I dined here.
Vaughan Dunn
This place should be famous if it isn't already. Superb New Orleans food in a fun setting and very good service. I would eat through the entire menu if I had the time. Cheesecake appetizer exceptional and the Carpet Bagger steak also outstanding!
Jordan Vallas
This place is so amazing. Every single dish I got was life changing. From corn bred to red fish to desert, I would recommend it all.
Shout out to my waitress Rosa, you were great.
I absolutely will be coming back!
JENNIFER Pedroza
Truly the best food we have eaten during our stay in NOLA! Alligator cheese cake is amazing. Each course was delicious, so many things to try. Start to finish this place doesn't disappoint!
Aarif Mirza
Honestly, I don’t know what the rave is. Maybe we went on a bad night as there was a large party of 20 in the restaurant that night and the kitchen may have been under stress to get that much food out quickly and in a timely manner.
The food itself is ok at best for what we had. A new swordfish Dish and a Chicken dish, but could have been a lot better. Also make sure you ask them not to seat you in the aisle, as we sat right beside the door leading to the backroom and were constantly being bumped in to by staff and guests. I think they should get rid of that table completely because it just isn’t a nice table to be in and it won’t hurt their profit margin.
Mark Swafford
Very delicious food, a large selection of choices from Nahlens food. Great atmosphere.
Nolan Donovan
The food was absolutely delicious. There's a wait to get into the restaurant, but we'll worth it–get your name on the list and grab a drink near by. Waiter was knowledgable, personable and attentive. Awesome environment, low-key and eclectic, packed with interesting art.
jason pennington
The food and atmosphere were amazing!!! My wife and I LOVED IT!!!
Scott McGlinchey
Seated promptly for our reservation. Given specials by 2 servers, quality cocktails. Fried grit appetizer excellent, deep fried roast beef po-boy very good' sauce exceptionally. Potato crusted drum tremendous. Carpet bagger steak perfect. Grouper, outstanding, Duck cooked perfect, and delicious. Very good service.
Tina Nguyen
All staff were super nice and friendly! Everything was delicious! Cant go wrong with anything you order. I need to come back to try the etoufee!
Paul Martinez
This place is GREAT! Definitely have to try the Alligator & Shrimp Cheesecake (its not really a cheese cake) never had anything like it and it was amazing! Also try Godzilla Soft shell crab when they have them! Delicious! Recommend 100%
Shane Lauritzen
Certainly delicious, but arguably overpriced (though that seems to be most places in NOLA these days). One great thing is that they will add a piece of their famous fried chicken to any meal for only $3, which makes the decision making much easier if you have your eye on something else, but don't want to miss out on the chicken. Be aware that the food is quite rich.
Kristine Hebert
Busy as usual, brought guests not from Louisiana; all dishes ordered were delicious; our guests want to return again and we will !
Christian Hilchey
Really great meal in an inexpensive, somewhat (pleasantly) chaotic atmosphere. Would gladly go back.
Scott Noh
I’m coming back to NOLA just for this place…
LORAN D
Nice place but unimpressed by the food flavoring it took about 45 minutes to receive our food. But we didn't mind too much because we were having cocktails. But I'll give it a 2nd try just to make sure I was correct in my 1st impression.
Dario Landazuri
Amazing, amazing, amazing. One of my must-visits when I come to New Orleans. Even better now that they have options that my wife (basically vegan) can eat as well.
The alligator and shrimp cheesecake is just unbelievably good and the highlight of the meal to me.
Martin Mulvihill
Seafood cheesecake was incredible. Bread pudding fantastic. Relaxed bar scene (ask for a hurricane).
Athena Diaz
Amazing food! Amazing servers! Amazing place! Truly enjoyed the calamari, escargot, coconut bread pudding, & creme brulee...absolutely delectable!!!!
Shelly Darrow
As someone from New Orleans this is by far my favorite local restaurant. I send people here all the time, just for the experience. Make sure to try the Alligator & Sausage Cheesecake. You won't be disappointed.
Ana Sopko
From my Sazerac to the Cornbread and Shrimp and Alligator Sausage Cheesecake to the blackened redfish and stuffed catfish... our mouths were watering non stop! Happy we had a chance to eat here while in New Orleans. I will telling everyone I know that’s going down there to make sure to stop in there! Fantastic service and ambiance as well! (make sure to get a side of red beans and rice and some greens... so.. damn.. tasty!)
Timothy Barr Rowland
New Orleans BBQ SHRIMP so wonderfully delicious and my favorite dish!!! Give me dat corn bread too! Yummy all around! Great atmosphere and perfect service! Don't forget to order a savory drink from a hurricane to a Big Easy!
Jaime Urteaga
They have a few excellent food items, great experience, long wait for sure. The spinach salad was below average, fried chicken above average, the calamari is the best, the cheesecake app is absolutely incredible. The bouillabaisse was heart breakingly average to slightly below average (the big factor in the less than 5 star rating).
Peter Hahn
Enjoyed good service and good food. The complementary corn bread was exceptional. I enjoyed smashed sweet potato as a side dish. Stuffed pork chop which was served in generous portion also tasted very good.
Ginny Marmolejos
Food was good, very busy spot, the wait was long, I must say that they do warn about the waiting, but once you are seated there is some waiting too. Seems its a favorite place for the locals. The drink was also good. The staff is very friendly. The decor inside at the bar side was the best part.
Cheryl Cantwell (libertyoriginals)
Local flavor, colorful too of course! Expect a wait to get in. If there's not a line when you arrive, there will be. This place is everything New Orleans should be. Excellent food in fun surroundings. Start with alligator cheesecake - it's not dessert. And boudin balls. Any of the fish dishes are so good it's hard to decide. If you have 5 or more, make a reservation! My favorite place for cajun all the way.
Jeroen Breman
Our hotel has this restaurant as a suggestion on their web site. Great to see this little area of town. It is very noise in the back and that was a problem for my colleague who wears hearing aids. And the food was spectacular! I had the rabbit tenderloin as an appetizer. Interesting. And the Carpet Bagger Steak as an entrée. By far the best steak experience I had in months, if not years! I'd definitively recommend this place!
owen argoe
One of the best meals ive ever eaten in Nola
Zachary Davies
My brother and I split three apps and a side - alligator/shrimp "cheesecake" quiche, fried grits, and an eggplant dish, with side of corn - and we're too stuffed to finish in one setting. Rich delicious sauces, perfect textures, and delicious food were paired with well-proportioned hurricanes. Service by Lauryn personable, pleasant, and humorous. Atmosphere is great too, with kitschy art by Dr Bob and others adorning the dark walls, but expect it to be noisy.
Chris Grant
Hostess was rather rude to us. She quickly dismissed us because our whole party wasn't present. When we finally got to out table the waitress was wonderful and attentive. She was incredibly friendly and laid back. The food was decent though not something that overly impressed me.
J morgan
Alligator cheesecake was really good as were the boudin arancinis. 5 different entrees were all enjoyed and yall, that cornbread...sinfully good. Errol was a fantastic server and made sure everything was perfect for our dinner
sylvia malone
This was my 1st visit to the NOLA and this place came highly recommended. Hands down the best food I had during my whole trip ( which c'mon now you know the competition is stiff) them fried grits was EVERYTHING and I had the redfish which was so fire. All the servers were amazing, the place was well kept, I will def be back. Thank you so much for the great food, and the hospitality
Judy Scott
Absolutely the best food! All staff was friendly. Our waiter, William, was always on time and attentive. Atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. We will return and send friends when coming to NOLA!
Vicki W
Everything was great! Brussel sprouts were amazing, seafood cheesecake was very tasty as well.
Dino T
Amazing food, eclectic menu, a must visit!
I agree with everyone that you have to try the alligator cheesecake (quiche) appetizer. the bacon wrapped stuff quail was delicious and so tender. Everything on the menu sounded amazing. I will go back the next time I'm in town to try more.
Gregory Forck
Ok! So this is my first time in the Big Easy. Went here before heading to the French Quarter. Had the Eggplant Perogue with a whole bunch of fresh seafood in the dish. Wow, it was just awesome! Others at my table had etoufee and couldn't be happier. Definitely a great start to my visit.
Vman Homeboycooking
I'm pretty sure I have already reviewed Jacques-Imo's. But if not, it is well worth the effort to get here and I will be back! 😊 My wife had the fried chicken of which I tasted and OMG...delicious. I had the smothered chicken and again...delicious. I needed to be there will I was truly hungry because the portions are generous. Did I already say I'll be back. 😊 Highly recommend making a reservation, if possible. No pics...too busy eating.
wayne golden
Excellent food and service. Stuffed pork chops and crawfish etouffe were great. Went at 6:00 and we're seated right away but by the time we left at 7:15, there was a 45 minute wait on Saturday. Great as always.
Milind Rao
We were recommended this place by their sister concern (Crabby Jack's - which is also very good) and this was the best meal I have had in a month. Everything we ate was simply excellent. Except for the corn bread which we found too oily. The waitress came back a couple of minutes later with another set - which was perfect. And I don't even really like corn bread!! The blackened redfish, the grilled Mahi Mahi, mashed potato, fries were all superb. To top it all, the service is truly outstanding. Can't recommend this place highly enough.
Margaret Ling
To me this restaurant is everything a New Orleans place should be. Full or warmth, noise, tasty food, and friendly service. Our server Kristie was so sweet! Recommend the eggplant seafood dish.
Joel Hodges
Great food, good atmosphere. Bartenders are extremely friendly.
miriam molinet
Incredible FOODIE experience... Place was packed, we waited for a couple of bar seats to open and decided to eat at the bar. Sherry was our bartender and she took great care of us! What a culinary treat!! Don't miss out on this place.
Martin Link
Great atmosphere and really unique food. I loved their gumbo and make sure you try the alligator cheesecake (a picture of it is included). I'll definitely make it a point to stop back when I'm in town!
Melody Lenard
We ate at Jacques Imo's while visiting New Orleans last weekend. Excellent staff. Good food. Our waiter did an excellent job. About a 30 minute wait to be seated. Will eat there on our next trip.
dblodgett61
A flavor experience second to none. This place is situated in a neighborhood, fashioned out what I believe was a private residence at one point, so the digs are cozy but not overwhelming. The menu is a cross of traditional southern fare with cajun and creole mashups. The fried chicken is some of the best I've had, the boudin still makes my mouth water thinking of it this far removed, and the deep fried poboy, yes that's not a typo it's a deep fried sandwhich, is a religious experience. Take the time to stop in, I recommend this place to any and all who want a great meal in a great local.
Julie Rose Dizon
Everything was delicious! Went with a group of 17. Service was great!
Tiffany Stakem
This place... amazing food and atmosphere. Some of the best service I've ever had. Please try the shrimp & alligator cheesecake. It's incredible, and doesn't taste like any of those things.
Brian Anthony
Great atmosphere with super nice service. I had the blackened redfish, something I usually avoid but placed faith on the server's suggestion along with the boudain balls filled with pepper jack cheese and a dipping sauce as an appetizer. These were phenomenal and reasonably priced. The corn maques choux and sweet potato sides were fair and the meal also included a spinach salad with a flash fried oyster on top that was good. While not a coconut person, I had the coconut bread pudding with caramel sauce that was great. I highly recommend this eclectic place in Uptown.

This place IS as good as it gets! JI's is a place you would walk right past if you didn't know better, and if you happened to have fought your way through the hundreds of people outside waiting. Get there before 6:00 pm or you could be waiting for 90 mins for a table, though the bar area is very friendly. The other great thing about JI's is the trip to get there. From the Quarter you will have to take the St. Charles street car through the Garden District which is $1.25 and a great way to see upriver New Orleans.
The service is incredible due to their need to get people in and out since it is a very small place. You don't really have a waiter as much as you have a contact person. Lacey was our waitress the second time we went and she was the coolest chick in the place. Finding time to tell us her favorites while still hustling!
The menu is so unique and inspired and one of the few places where you can honestly say try anything and it will be incredible! Couple of staples, Alligator Cheesecake (trust me and every other yelper who suggests it too!), BBQ Shrimp, and the best Calamari I've ever had. We sampled two appetizers, shared an entrée’ (The Godzilla which was an incredible crab dish when in season!), and had a desert and the bill was about $58.00 with tip and worth EVERY penny.
JI was so great we went there our last night to have dinner again! Wife and i said this was the third best meal we've EVER had and will be a staple of our vacation is we ever make it back to the Crescent City, Big Easy, Who Dat Nation, and a French word I can't spell!
INSIDER TIP: Those that read this far here is a little nugget too. When you ride the streetcar back there is a bend in the track that takes you back to St. Charles and a Daiquiri Bar sits on the corner. It is owned by LiL Wayne's Uncle and he will show you ALL his pictures and then buy you a drink if you are from out of town and visiting his establishment.

If you’re looking for a reason to get up in the morning, look no further than their cornbread. Best thing ever. The alligator cheesecake is delicious. It reminds me of quiche more than cheesecake. The fried chicken is 👌. Be prepared to wait, but it’s worth it!! …
Chris R
The bartender, Kiss, makes an excellent watermelon mojito! The service was prompt and friendly, the employees worked together to take excellent care of all of the guests. We started out with the alligator cheesecake; it was amazing! Just try it, you won't be disappointed. Everything was delicious, especially the pecan crusted drum. It was so flavorful and cooked to perfection! The owner made us feel welcome and as though we were part of their family. Our experience was unique and will be one of the best memories from our vacation! Jacques Imo's is a must on a visit to New Orleans!
Andy Ngo
The food was good. The interior of the restaurant is fun and entertaining. It has that old New Orleans feel. Staff and speed of service was great. I'm giving this restaurant 3 stars because it's expensive for what I got. I paid $17 for fried chicken, which I believe is expensive.
Matthew Douglass
The place looks really cool on the inside. The atmosphere is fun. The wait staff (william) was very knowledgeable and did an awesome job of serving my wife and I. The food to us did not hold up to the name. We ordered the fried chicken with slaw and mashed potatoes and just werent impressed as much as we thought wed be for the money we spent. Would reccomend others to try. I'm sure other things on the menu are probably great. -Matt and macaila from NC.

Food was great.. the corn bread your gonna want to keep em coming a lightly sweet with a better garlic & parsley drizzled over and soaked up by the corn bread...
Portions are not that big. So dont bring a huge appetite, but the flavor and decorum was authentic..
Loved my vist

My only complaint was that I was full by the time my entree arrived because everything was so delicious leading up to it. From the garlic butter cornbread that greets you when you sit down, the crab stuffed shrimp and rabbit leg appetizers, even their very simple spinach salad topped with fried oyster, everything tasted amazing. I got the cajun boullabaise, which reminded me of ciopinno, my favorite, was so yummy, they don't skimp on the fish. I tried a bite of the pan fried rabbit drum and blackened red fish, both also amazing. If you manage to save room for dessert, I didn't buy wish I had, the coconut bread pudding was scrumptious, I don't even like bread pudding. So in short, go give it a try. But just a side note, I only waited maybe 20 minutes to get a table, but I hear they can handle e quite a bit of a wait at times, usually at least an hour, so plan accordingly. They have a bar you can order drinks at while you wait and tons of artwork on the walls and even the ceiling to keep your eyes busy.
Jeannie High
The food, the service and the vibe was all totally worth the 3 day drive to get there. Alligator Cheesecake was TO. DIE. FOR!!!! Every dish we had was like a flavor explosion in my mouth. Go early if you want to avoid a long wait, but it would be completely worth the wait.
