Reviews of Gris-Gris

Best meal in NOLA! We absolutely loved this place! We stopped there for brunch without reservation and they seated us outside. The place is beautiful! Everything we ordered was delicious with fresh and seasonal ingredients. The service was fast and the staff was really nice. They even welcomed our little chihuahua bringing her a bowl of chicken and rice. If you are in town don’t miss this gem in the garden district!
Michael Barton
Gris-Gris is everything you'd want in your NOLA dining experience. The atmosphere is casually elegant. The food is decadent. The drinks are reasonably priced, and everyone having one around me was more than enjoying them. The gumbo is a really good dish. It's dark brown roux is a near perfect base for for each ingredient. The bar staff was beyond friendly, and I'd happily return again to try more dishes.

We loved this place! We knew we had to stop here after passing it on Magazine Street. The food smelled so good and it’s in a prime location right on the corner. We were originally wanting a seat on the balcony but got better seats— front row seating to the main kitchen. We actually watched our meals be prepared and it was a priceless experience for our group. Be sure to make reservations because this restaurant seems to get pretty busy. All the food was phenomenal (especially the Oyster Pie) and the kitchen staff does an amazing job! Kudos!

Another great local Creole inspired place. The lunch here is good and well portioned. I enjoyed the oysters, in both BLT and Po boy forms! Very lightly battered and not overfried, the protein was still quite tender. The seasoning is quite salty overall though at this place, so be careful of that if you're sensitive. Well sizes portions and great for sharing!

We happened upon this place while walking down Magazine Street! It looked so nice and smelled so good that we knew we need to stop here. The food was so delicious my mouth is watering writing about it! We sat at the tables watching the chefs cook and we loved to see them working and making these extravagant dishes!! A super fun and delicious place make sure to come here and make reservations as it gets super busy!

I can’t say enough great things about this spot! First off, the people that work here are the absolute sweetest and so accommodating- shoutout to our hostess and server who made us feel like family! Secondly, the food is outstanding- honestly anything you order will be great (can’t go wrong). They have amazing cocktails and the atmosphere is so inviting. We can’t wait to come back here next time we are in the city (any every time after that)!

Visited today for brunch!
Overall nice atmosphere, pretty great service as well! I sat downstairs where the open table kitchen is located. I probably would rather go during dinner or maybe to sit at the bar for some drinks at night— didn’t get the brunch vibe here.
I ordered a Caesar salad, gumbo, and the cast iron seared fish. All of the food was just okay. I always prefer real homemade gumbo, especially being in New Orleans. The seared fish wasn’t bad, Caesar salad just a basic salad no crushed pepper.
I ordered a pomegranate martini. There was no pomegranate so they substituted it. Didn’t too much like the drink at all.
Overall I would go back for their dinner menu, just to see how that is and to order drinks. First time visiting, 3/5.

After much anticipation, I must say that I was underwhelmed by the food. Gris Gris has a very hip vibe, great service, bar and cocktails. We sat on the balcony which is absolutely great. Overlooking Magazine street during your dining experience was wonderful.
We experienced two good meals with the duck; however, my double cut pork chop was over cooked, dry and lukewarm. The same happened to my friend that ordered the rabbit… over-cooked, dry and lukewarm.
We tried the BLT oyster appetizer and found shell in one of the fried oysters and the burnt ends were very tough.
Very disappointed. Expected much more from Cook.

We arrived a bit early for our reservation, but it was no problem...they sat us out on the balcony right away. The food was delicious but not executed properly all the way across the board. The Chicken&Dumplings had carrots in it that were raw still. And the Oyster BLT appetizer had SO much smoke flavor that it was just about inedible. So, we ended up sending it back and our server took it off our bill. The Breaded Shrimp appetizer and the Swordfish&Shrimp Entree were to die for! The staff here are incredibly helpful, attentive, and friendly. I would go back again to try something different.

We roaming around town and ran into this place. We stopped in for some very late lunch. I ordered the shrimp and grits, which was pretty good. The lunch portion wasn't huge, but a good size. My wife ordered the open faced pot roast, which she thought was okay, but probably would not order it again.
The pumpkin cocktail drinks she got was super weird, definitely something she wouldn't order again. I tried it and I would definitely not consider ordering it. But I suppose if you're a heavy pumpkin lover, it might be worth a try.

Sat at the kitchen counter for a relatively quick dinner before an event. We had the porkchop and the jambalaya and enjoyed it quite a bit. The chop was expertly cooked to a tender deliciousness and the greens were tasty and flavorful, like they had been cooked in bacon grease. The jambalaya was mildly spicy, with the variety of tastes from the Andouille to the seafood meshing very well. (The pictured fish dish was something that another patron ordered.) The Chef was personable and funny, offering insight to local drinking holes, music venues and anecdotes galore.

Amazing food! Tried both duck and oysters for the first time, and they were delicious! Reasonable prices (similar to any nearby restaurant) and good drinks. Service was a little slow, but kind and quick to refill water.

Absolutely loved this place. Probably my favorite brunch in NoLa. Lovely service, great location, and amazing food.
Make reservations in advance to get on their 2nd floor balcony -- which is just fantastic when the weather is nice. Inside on the second floor is airy and bright too, and the first floor patio is always in the shade (if you get hot easily).
For apps, the fried chicken gizzard with grits and brown gravy were packed with flavor and buttery and decadent and a perfect mix of textures. My husband normally doesn't eat "weird" foods, and he loved it, too. For a main, that pot roast in brown gravy with mashed potatoes can't be beat. Best pot roast I've had anywhere in the world. So tender and juicy and flavorful. I recommend doing it my way: take out the toast, and add a runny egg.
You can get a bottle of bubbly for $32 during brunch I think. I also loved their Bloody Marys and sangria.
Deisai
I ordered a salad and a seared duck. The taste is good, the chief definitely have good ideas of make great food.
However one thing to aware is the size of the entries seem to have a lot difference. Some are way smaller even with similar price.
Make sure do look at the pictures or ask about the size before ordering.

Made a reservation during my first time visiting NOLA. I loved the restaurant's atmosphere and scenic balcony. The oyster BLT appetizer and shrimp and grits dinner were phenomenal and flavorful. Excellent service, everyone friendly and attentive, and food came out quickly. Overall absolutely worth trying Gris-Gris!

We rented out the private Samedi Room for a group of 18 gals for a bachelorette party dinner. Fran was amazing to work with for all of the planning logistics. The space was a private full floor and a roof deck. The menu had excellent choices (we did a cheese board, chicken & biscuits with honey and duck poppers as apps, and house salad, gumbo, shrimp and grits and pork loin for dinner). All of the food was delicious, and the decor was beautiful. Fran was there to make sure everything went smoothly and we had our own bartender as well (we went with the house package and chose 2 wines and 2 beers, and they even included hard seltzer). They were amazing about doing separate options for our vegetarians and those with allergies. I was worried about where we would all sit with a group that big but the space worked so well for mingling, and everyone always had a place to sit down and eat when they wanted to. Highly recommend if you’re planning a group event!
Clément Anthonioz-Blanc
We loved the balcony! You have a great view on the street and some fresh air.
We went there for dinner. The food menu is very good, a lot of options.
We really liked the Prosecco.
We were with our dog, they were all very pet friendly!

We had been waiting to go here for so long after hearing so many rave reviews so we finally made a reservation a couple of weeks ago and went last night. Unfortunately I was disappointed… I will say my husband raved about his duck but my friend and I weren’t very impressed. The presentation was good but the flavors were just underwhelming! We have gone to Saint John and loved it so we were really expecting to love this place too but it was just average. Between the three of us we had the oyster blt (not enough pepper jelly), flambeaux shrimp (tasted like fried shrimp with a little sweet and sour sauce- was hoping for more flavor and impact), oyster pie (tasted like your average clam chowder and under seasoned), duck breast (husband loved it and I don’t eat duck so I didn’t try it, my friend who had never had duck was not a fan), lgd burger with bacon (friend said meat wasn’t seasoned, nothing special), and sticky bread pudding (good but needed whipped cream or ice cream or something on top). I just had high expectations and because of that was very disappointed! Nothing was bad but nothing was great either. I would recommend Saint John instead!

I was in town with some friends and decided to finally try Gris-Gris.
The night that I was here they seemed to be short handed and not working as a team. We sat at our table at around 45 min after our reservation time.
Our waitress was very nice and felt bad about the wait.
The food was tasty but not, what you would get for the price.
Myself and another member of my party had the Rabbit entree, both of them were served cold to the touch. They took our ears back and threw them in the oven to heat it up. This corrected the temperature issue but dried the meat.
I would really like to come back and give Gris-Gris another chance to reach their full potential.
Debbie Jang
The portions are HUGE and absolutely delicious. Oyster pie, gizzards, salad, the rabbit fricassee and pork chops. Eyes were definitely bigger than stomach, but totally worth it!
Francis Ayombil
Food was great. Their ice team and drinks were spot on. The view from the balcony seating is awesome 👏🏾 and the service and people were nice and friendly. I would visit here again when in NOLA. Cheers 🍻
Erika Robinson
I think this place is overhyped for what it is. The food was just okay. I think the menu was weak in several aspects. The food tastes okay, but it just wasn’t a WOW for any of us. The red fish was disturbing to even have at the table. I’m still traumatized. The cocktails were good.
While dining there was a kitchen issue of some sort that filled the entire place with smoke. Like a lot of smoke. It was difficult to breathe. It would have been nice for them to acknowledge the discomfort instead of pretending everything was fine.
Jessica Eason
The staff was great! I ordered the gumbo it was good but a little too smokey for me. I also ordered the pork chops with mashed potatoes and collard greens. The mashed potatoes and greens were goof but I was a little disappointed in the porkchop. I ordered well done and the closer u got to the bone it wasn't done. Also it didn't have much flavor at all. If I go back I would order something else

We heard many great things about Gris-Gris and decided to try it out. Top notch food from start to finish! Very unique menu items, all of which are incredible.

Gris gris is a great spot to catch up with friends and enjoy great food. If you can, snag a seat on the outdoor balcony - they even have heaters for when it’s chilly.
Their oyster pie ( $16 ) was a rich, delicious take on oysters that I highly recommend. The cocktails and wine were all delicious. I am still dreaming about the layered flavors in their gumbo (cup for $6 ).
I had the seared fish dinner ( $29 that night) and was in heaven. Friends had the chicken and dumplings which was super rich and amazing - definitely should be split with a partner.

Are you kidding me with this placeeee!! It was our first meal after landing in NOLA and I had to stop myself from not going there for every meal after and try other places. Wow. Soooo good. We went for brunch ordered mimosas of course. The shrimp and pork belly watermelon to start. And the chicken and biscuits as well as the fried oysters w spinach as our mains. It upset me when I got full haha. Such a nice spot, we had shaded outdoor seating.. no reservation we got there Saturday as soon as they opened and got seated immediately. I felt it was absolutely reasonably priced especially for the portion sizes. Fun and beautiful neighborhood. Can’t wait to come back! Our waitress, Santana was cool, very attentive and knows that menu.. ask for her if she’s available!!
Mykala Repati
Amazing food! Tried both duck and oysters for the first time, and they were delicious! Reasonable prices (similar to any nearby restaurant) and good drinks. Service was a little slow, but kind and quick to refill water.

Had an awesome lunch at Gris Gris. Swordfish was superb! On Magazine which is always a nice place to hang out. 2nd story outdoor dining was nice. Good wait staff and nice selection of entrées. Will definitely return to try more.
tinmart86
The gumbo was very flavourful, maybe overseasoned for some, but perfect for me. The desserts all looked incredible, we really really liked the cinnamon roll pudding. Out of this world.
Miranda Houston
Yummy! This little gem has dishes exploding with flavor, amazing staff, & fun decor. My husband and I stopped in after reading about it on Facebook & it didn’t disappoint. We shared the oyster blt & the open face roast beef dish. Both dishes are worth raving about!

Hello!! AllFunNYC from Instagram here!
Super fun Spot for brunch @grisgris in New Orleans! We had some awesome food and drinks! We tasted the:
GO WITH THE FLO:
Crispy Oysters, Creamed Spinach, Boursin Cheese, Fried Egg with Hollandaise
CHICKEN AVOCADO SANDWICH:
Grilled Chicken Breast, Crystal Honey Butter, Avocado, Tomatoes, Boston Lettuce on Texas Toast
OPEN FACED POT ROAST

Everything was delicious 🤤 and the staff was super friendly and accommodating! Must go when in New Orleans!

Stumbled upon Gris-Gris for brunch after visiting the Buckner Mansion! We got a table outdoors on their bottom balcony and enjoyed the sun. I got the oyster and Cajun caviar po boy — Crispy Oysters with Cajun Caviar, Arugula and Buttermilk Ranch Dressing on French Bread. The po boy also comes with fries.
My friend got the open faced pot roast — Roast Beef Debris with Mashed Potatoes and Brown Gravy on Texas Toast. Both dishes were flavourful and very well portioned.
Only complaint is that service was quite slow.

I had a wonderful experience at Gris-Gris. The food and drinks were excellent and my server went above and beyond. You won't regret coming here when you're in New Orleans.

I can’t say enough great things about this place!, The food, the drinks, the staff are outstanding, anything you order will be super! Best Shrimp and Grits in NOLA! I will definitely keep coming back!

This was recommended to us and it hit the spot. Great staff/place. Food was amazing. Compliments to the chef 10/10 drinks great

My wife and I ate at Gris-Gris for lunch on December 30th and loved it. We both are super concerned and safe regarding the virus and felt totally safe unmasked on their balcony.
We ate at numerous NOLA restaurants (all outside) during our stay that were highly recommended and we both agreed the shrimp and grits at Gris-Gris was the best thing to touch our palettes. We are both southerners and those were the best grits I've ever had (I'm not even a huge grits guy) and my wife doesnt even really like shrimp! I liked the gumbo, while she really didn't care for it. However, full disclosure... I think God could make the best gumbo on earth and she still wouldn't care for it. I can personally say the gumbo was excellent too. The fried oyster BLT appetizer was exceptional as well. We both liked it.
Our server, Mac (hope I spelled it right), had us thoroughly entertained and she did a great job waiting on us. Who knew pineapple had enzymes that dissolve meat? Lol.
I highly recommend Gris-Gris on the balcony. It was a great experience.
Kay's Purple Heart
My experience was great, great food, and great mocktail. Lana was my server and she was awesome! Would definitely recommend coming here. I had the Flambeaux shrimp as an appetizer (sooo good) and the swordfish and shrimp for the entree. It was my first time having swordfish, I def recommend it!!
Mattlan Ladner
Amazing southern food dishes! The slow roasted pot roast was phenomenal and the chicken and dumplings were a hit as well!
Rachel Adams-Beja
Had the chicken gizzard and they were really good. The shrimp appetizer was very fishy and tough. The gumbo was fair. Overall it was a bit disappointing. The open face roast beef was very good as was the BLT.
david lindley
The burger I had was fine, but I'm not sure the chicken and dumplings was worth the $20. Also, we wanted to sit on the balcony but were told there was no seat available (at 5 on a Monday), when there patently was. Two hours later there were still spaces out there.
Lexi Aagesen
Fantastic service at the upper bar. The ambiance invites you to relax while you enjoy deliciously crafted cocktails. The Irish coffee with praline liquor hit the spot on a warm day

Oh my Goodness! Literally the best food memory from my trip to New Orleans. Everything was amazing. The staff was awesome. Our party of 6 thoroughly enjoyed and shared everything. I've never had that experience before Gris Gris and have had some amazing dishes. But to enjoy every single thing individual was an utter delight. Alas, I enjoyed myself so much everybody forgot to take pictures of the food.

We showed up after going onto 2 other restaurants looking for quality Gluten Free options for the wife..
What a find.. Sorry 1 pic.. We just ate..
If it could be done GF, they assured they would happily do it..
We had the oyster BLT to start..
The oysters with it we done to perfection.
I tryed the gumbo..Not GF.. And was great.
Shared the shrimp and grits, again on point for our palates..
Had 2 glasses of wine and meal was great value around $100..

Amazing food, the ambience was awesome and the service was impeccable, NOLA’s hospitality IS THEEEEE absolute BEST and this place surpasses it!!! I’ll be back when I visit again and this place is highly recommended if you’re just landing!!!
Dodger Murga
Food was cooked to perfection pact with flavor for every bite! We sat right in front of the Chef and team. It was quite entertaining and admired the ability to see it all in action right in front. Some of meals were hand delivered by the head Chef. I had the filet mignon, can never go wrong with steak. The feta spinach salad with tajin dressing! Suburb! The chef answered all my curiosity questions on the flavors and his descriptions were just so detailed that I am getting hungry just thinking about them right now!
Shana Vos (captaincrunch)
I found this place on accident, but SO glad I did. The service was wonderful staff was so friendly. The drinks were excellent, the food was great and the grits......OMG. perfect, it will be heard to find anything that even comes close to them.
Myke Fisher
Sit at the stadium kitchen downstairs if you enjoy watching stupidly talented people at work. I learned about the salad/sandwich/soup theory. I grew as a person.
Nick Pecora
Great spot 10 minutes out from the quarter and worked perfect fir us to meet before going to Tulane. Meal was incredible snd the drinks were awesome!
Steve Fye
Unique and very hip place to eat. Having part of the kitchen in full view is a really great way to show everyone the quality of the food that's being made. We had the "oyster pie" appetizer which was very well done. Creamy and mild, very good portion. Entrees were pork chop (incredible - definitely get this) and the swordfish (not the greatest - a bit too salty for my taste). The ribeye steaks looked unreal and way larger than the advertised weight of 14oz.
Service was outstanding - very experienced staff and extremely accommodating.
Will come back for sure!
DeWayne Loudermilk
While this place can be tough to get into, the food is absolutely worth the wait! The best Shrimp and Grits in New Orleans hands down. We also had an incredible appetizer of Gizzards that blew our minds! The service was exceptional and the bar makes very fun and tasty drinks. Will be back next time I'm in NOLA for sure.
Roy Aubin
Smaller menu and apps list but don't be fooled. Party of 6 and we thoroughly enjoyed everything. Grilled swordfish, steak, shrimp and grits great. Oysters and pork belly and gumbo really good. We sat on balcony right at nightfall and ambiance was really nice. Recommended to try.

A lovely New Orleans restaurant.
Food is great. Service is good.
Friendly staff.

We had a large party and was offered the top floor with our own server and I just can’t even begin to tell y’all- I’ve dined a lot of places in my life and their vegetables and fruit were SOOO FRESH and everything was beautiful! The food and the decor and the ambiance, I can’t say enough nice things about it!! It’s a MUST for New Orleans visitors. I’ve never had such delicious food!!! Thank youGris gris! For truly one of the best experiences <3
Danielle M
The staff were very good and my Loa Sangria was delicious. The rest of the food was okay. It took awhile for the food to come out and when it did, everything came out at once rather than salad first. The shrimp and grits had a slight fishy taste and the burger wasn’t anything particularly special but our waitress was attentive, confident, and did a great job.
Albert Lam
Holy! Service was so friendly and accommodating. The food was the best we’ve had in New Orleans. Flavors were on point and the dishes were beautifully plated.
Juliet U
The atmosphere is incredible, you need to make a reservation, the food shrimp and grits amazing!
Service is OK. Originally, we were supposed to eat outside on the balcony. It was freezing out, the heater was not working, and they tried to move us to another part of the balcony, too windy and cold. We realized there was room at the bar, and we waited over 10 minutes for them to clear the area for us to sit, I literally walked over there and stated pushing the plates out of the way so we could sit. There is no sense of urgency to assist us even though the host just watched us clean up the bar? It was odd, but once we sat and got situated, the bartenders were awesome. The food was great, we had a great time! Maybe a fluke on service? Overall, it was a great place!
Maja M
This place is amazing! Service is great, food is over the top- dishes are well prepared and so delicious! Worth of every penny! Staff is so nice and polite and very knowledgeable about their menu! Definitely, must eat here!!
The Bokor Strings
We sat at the Chef's Counter and loved every moment spent watching the well orchestrated kitchen prepare some of the best food we've ever tasted. Thanks to Chef Cook for the amazing time we got to share with you.
Katie Hines
Sat at the bar overlooking the kitchen, which is a really cool experience anywhere it's available. Wonderful server, friendly hostess. The first time I've had oyster pie and I think I could eat theirs 3x/week. I had the lamb shank with grits and it was fall of the bone tender, flavorful, and everything just fit perfectly together. Highly recommend.
Ashlie Diego
We sat on the balcony which I really enjoyed being able to look out at everything, there was a lovely fountain in the courtyard.
The chicken andouille gumbo was to die for! I should have ordered a big bowl of it because it was so good! I got the chicken biscuit and gravy, it was a huge piece of chicken.
We ended up having to rush a little bit because we had to catch a plane but the staff was amazing, accommodating and nothing but friendly!
I'll definitely be back on our next trip to Nola!!
B Joseph
This place is amazing!! I would like to give a big thank you to Lyn and her team for making our night amazing! Our waiter Iva kept us laughing all night. The food is excellent and the place is filled with personality. I would highly recommend it!
I’m screaming Gris Gris all the way back home!
E S
From beginning to end, it has been a great experience. Everything i had was delicious. The craft cocktails are different but good. The dessert was on par with the rest of the experience.
Went again it was even better. The Double Cut Porkchop was superb. 👍👍
Ralph Rosenberger Jr
Top tier New Orleans resturant, definitely worth a special stop. Kitchen staff was great, my server Lana (like banana) was awesome, food was incredible. Gumbo was the best I've had in New Orleans and the Chicken and Dumplings were out of the world delicious.
Allison Cartwright
Sit at the counter and watch the kitchen staff do its thing. Our wait person Killian was kind professional and attentive. I ordered a simple house salad and a cup of gumbo and honestly though those two things sound like they might be commonplace here in New Orleans I found them to be extremely delicious and complimentary to each other with the sweetness of the light dressing to the spice of the gumbo. Eat here you will be happy.
Amanda Fisher
Perfect little spot in the Garden District. The staff is fun and the food is great! A must try for sure!
Charles Rudd
My wife loved the duck and her brother enjoyed the lamb. My chicken and dumplings was delicious and a very large serving. We also enjoyed sitting on the balcony. Cool place and very good service. The only thing out of place was the background music which was Eminem .
Jamie Wibbenmeyer
Took quite a while for our server to come, but she was attentive once there. Limited menu. Gumbo was great as was the oyster poor boy. Shrimp appetizer was lukewarm but tasty. Good prices on drinks at Happy hour.
Wil McGriff
Great service. Beautiful view over the lower garden district from the upstairs balcony. 2 of our 3 meals were excellent. The third meal, a pork chop, was a bit over-done. Otherwise great and would be happy to return ourselves or recommend to others.
Kelly Ann Varonfakis
Arrived for lunch, mid-week with a group of 10. We were sat outside; with nice weather it was pleasant. Service was attentive and water glasses rarely empty. I had the LGD burger - my criticism is three of us had the burger and asked for medium - all three were beyond well done and extra crispy. After food was dropped off we didn't see the server for about 20 minutes so no opportunity to ask for it to be corrected. The fries however were amazing. When we made the reservation we asked if we could receive separate checks and assured it was no problem, but when we ordered and asked we were told we were misinformed and they never split checks. Just a word of caution for anyone who might need it. Overall a good experience, but not someplace I'd likely return.
Andrew Gifford
We love this spot. Every year we visit my wife's family in NOLA for the holidays and we always carve out time to stop here. Consistently excellent service, consistently excellent food, great cocktails. Balcony and ground level outdoor seating is comfortable and welcoming. Indoor, we always sit at one of he two bars. On the ground floor you can watch the chefs in action, and the cozy upstairs bar always has great bartenders.
Nicolette Tech (Nikita)
Great food! Bar seating mostly on the first level, table seating inside & outside upstairs. Tucked away in the garden district but also close to other bars and shops.
A R L
An innovative twist on creole classics like shrimp and grits, po boys, and more. I have never had caviar and ranch dressing before, but it absolutely works and works well. Server had good recommendations and was friendly and helpful. The fried oysters were excellent.
Ryan Dixon
Fun experience! Sit at the bar/kitchen area just inside the front door. Fun to watch the staff do their work, and also helps you decide what you want, by seeing them prepare meals. We tried several things on the menu and were pleased with all of them.
zan
I went here on a Sunday afternoon. There is a nice balcony area upstairs And outdoor seating downstairs. The oyster salad is really good. It was a very nice dining experience. Will definitely revisit!
Ashley Harrington
Stopped by for a late lunch, sat at the counter and was able to watch all the action in their open concept kitchen. Service was great and food absolutely delicious. Do not skip the shrimp and grits. The oyster pie was also amazing a modern take on shepherds pie/ pot pie with a NOLA twist, comfort food at its finest.
Rita Santucci Sumney
So the food was amazing. Steak salad with their dressing was perfect. My friend lives her peanut butter pie. My daughter loved the chicken avocado sandwich. Loved sitting and watching the food being made. Staff was great. Only complaint was they wouldn't do seperate checks for our group.
Adair K
Absolutely wonderful atmosphere (ask to sit at the kitchen counter!) and the staff are delightful.
The food was some of the best I’ve had in New Orleans and well-priced.
Definitely coming here again!
A Johnson
Incredible food and great atmosphere! The restaurant is located in a two-story building and has a second floor bar and patio. I had the pot roast as my entree and it was so delicious, I ended up eating the whole thing (left me close to uncomfortably full, but it was simply that good). Service was excellent.
Po Wah Moon
Gris-Gris needs to tighten up their operation. We made a reservation for 8:30pm, but were told to wait outside for 20 mins before we were finally seated. By the time we ordered food, half of the items on the menu were out: no redfish, no duck, no rabbit... I was left to order their chicken and dumplings, which was fine. We were given complementary appetizers for the trouble / inconveniences - a nice gesture, but the back story was that the kitchen made extras by mistake, so rather tossing them, they thought they'd give them to us. Another sign of a sloppy operation.
Overall, I think the menu looks promising based on our experience with the less popular dishes, i.e. pork chop and chicken and dumplings. We might adjust our rating if we get to try their signature dishes next time.
Ana N
Nice and chill place. Staff was nice and attentive. We ordered filet mignon, my mom‘s chicken and dumplings, oyster pie, and red craw fish, all very good and tasty. The pudding with salted caramel dessert was delicious. Would totally recommend.
difta
Good food overall, don't come during peak hours. Food ended up taking a while to get to our table but it was most likely because the kitchen was backed up.
The portion for the shrimp and gris gris grits were disappointingly small, but tasted very good in case anyone was considering ordering it.
Sarah Pugmire
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful experience. Thank you to Santana for the recommendation of the pumpkin spice frozen daiquiri and shrimp grits. Portions are small unless you order the poboy or hamburger. Drinks are delicious!

The Chef's table is great. Some of the best fried oysters around. Every dish is great, but the duck stands out as one of my favorites.
Chris Evans
For the hype I expected a bit more. The food was decent. Not the best we had in NOLA this trip but good. Hostess could use a lesson on manners. The server was great, thanks Al!
Jessie Songer
One of my favorites restaurants in New Orleans the food & service is always fantastic. I highly recommend.
Robert Metz
Brunch on the balcony was really good; the shrimp & grits and chicken biscuits were great. Service really good. But the gumbo was appalling watered down chicken soup.

I have only dined here once at time of this writing. A friend was having a birthday dinner for which I was attending.
We were a group of 13, which I understand can be challenging for smaller footprint establishments to accommodate. Gris Gris resolved this difficulty by seating us outside which was lit by flame heaters which added to the ambiance of the table a great deal.
Our reservation was for 8:30 pm, but we were not seated until around 9:00 pm, which is quite understandable given the large party. Again, they did a great job of accommodating the circumstances.
When we were first seated, our server informed us the table at which we were seared normally only accommodates ten people and he kindly moved a four top to provide more table top. He seemed to be working alone which I imagine can be challenging for a large table.
After reviewing the offerings, I ordered the chicken and andouille sausage gumbo and the chicken and dumplings. This was mostly due to the cool evening and thinking these could sit for a little while if the food serving was staggered some.
The gumbo was spot on in terms of flavors and the textures of the chicken, sausage, and rice were great. The chicken was not shredded into reasonably bite sizes however and could have been made more manageable. Despite this, I'd say the gumbo was one of the better ones I have eaten.
Chicken and Dumplings is always a dish that helps me determine whether a kitchen understands flavor composition due to the simplicity of the base ingredients. In this instance, I confidently state that Gris Gris exceeded expectations. The flavor was robust, the chicken was perfectly cooked, and the dumplings retained sufficient substance to be slightly chewable but we're still pillows of carb comfort. The broth of the dish possessed a balanced flavor profile which was delightful on each bite but never became overwhelming to the pallet throughout my meal.
Overall the table ordered nearly each menu item and I could see myself returning to eat the red fish or lamb shank as they looked well prepared and those who ordered them were card carrying members of the clean plate club by the end of the meal.
I cannot comment on dessert as the kitchen closed prior to reaching that course. In fact, I suspect in hindsight our dishes came out slowly as the kitchen was trying to close down before we even ordered our meals. Again, we were seated at 9:00 pm, so I can understand to some extent. However, when the birthday boy ordered a daquiri,

The views from the upper terrace are beautiful and the food is good but just a little over priced for what you get. Portions are unusually small for NOLA, though the quality of the gumbo and the French bread is good. Staff are friendly.
Cleo D
The food and service was top-notch. The location was great. However I think they are overpriced and there are other restaurants that offer the same delicious meal and great service for a more affordable price.
Laurie Prado
Everytime i have been here I am seated outside. This visit was a very cold night. I asked for indoor seating but was told they could not accomodate our group.
We had called ahead and had to leave a credit card deposit. They had plenty of time to plan. Instead we were seated outside with 2 barely functional space heaters. The menu that night was limited and the food became cold quickly. The staff seemed attentive but when you are freezing, its very unpleasant.

As the drizzle from a tropical storm rolled into a thunderous wave of water, we dove into the closest place we could find. Packed to the brim, grabbing a seat at the bar, I was desperate for a warm anything. But what I got was the best gumbo I've ever had in my entire life. I've had the stuff from places dotted around Nola but, gris-gris hit the craving in the best way

Great neighborhood restaurant in the Lower Garden District on Magazine St. New take on Southern dishes by Chef / Owner Eric Cook.. Seating is available inside at the bar, outside on the street, or on the second floor.
There is a small happy hour cocktail menu daily from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. I started with Le Bon Ami, a Pecan themed cocktail consisting of Cathead Praline Vodka, Evangeline Praline Liqueur, Fresh Lemon Juice, Cinnamon Stick, and Barrits Bermudan Ginger Beer.
As an appetizer, I started with Chicken Gizzards Grillades consisting of chicken gizzards, stone ground grit cake, caramalized peppers and onions with Brown Gravy.
What I had come for was to try the Sugarcane Seared Duck consisting of local molasses, roasted sweet potatoes and pecan casserole, and sugarcane demi-glace. Best duck I've had in a while.
To top things off and keeping with the pecan theme I had the Praline Butter Cream Pie with House made ice cream. The pralines really brought pop to the pie making it mouth watery good.
Great find. Hoping for their continued success.

Always great - food is classic creole and always delicious. Cajun dishes too, also divine. Servers work hard for your table. Top 5 uptown dining experiences. Go there!
Latoya Harris
Everything was absolutely wonderful!! From the appetizers to the dessert. The Shrimp & Grits is a must have. The double cut Pork Chop was a delight. The drinks are so beautiful & taste as such. Hannah was so wonderful as a waitress. Even working on this beautiful Easter Sunday, she was all smiles & wonderful hospitality. See yall again very soon
Tatiana Fisher
The drinks are so good I had the tequila based one and every sip was a delight. Ordered the pork chop and it was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Sat at the upstairs bar and Rob was on top of it with excellent service..

Today on there cast iron specialty was sword fish. Was super delicious, my wife had there moms chicken and dumplings. The cast iron fish and shrimp was to die for. The dumplings had a different kind of sweet taste. Both meals were fantastic. We both wanted the fish at the end of the day. We had shrimp flambro as a appetizers.i will definitely recommend and come back when in the city for a dinner date with my wife. Medium priced. Example 2 iPa beers, 1 appetizers, 2 entrée 77$
Aleaseya Benson
I normally love this place, but my past experience a few weeks ago was disappointing and sad, the shrimp and grits were cold and the server worried more about bigger parties than the 2 party. AFTER 20 mins of waiting for him to come back to even ask for my food to be warmed up we just paid and left... And most likely will not return!
Christiane Highfill
Our first time here and it did not disappoint. I started with the gumbo and it was fabulous with its dark roux base. I had the oyster po'boy which was perfection a tiger oysters were crisp yet juicy. This is a must try if you're ever in NOLA!
Broncho Dilator
I came to Gris Gris for dinner tonight. I had the Oyster BLT for an appetizer. It was amazing. For entree, I chose the 14 oz Ribeye with mashed potatoes and the steak sauce. Again, it was amazing. The steak melts in your mouth. Each bite was better than the one before. I initially ate the steak without the sauce and it was great. When I added the sauce and took a bite of the steak, mashed potatoes and sauce all at once, the combination was delicious. I was tempted to have desert but opted to hold off because the appetizer and entree were so deliciously filling. Great service. Attentive staff. I am definitely eating here again!

This restaurant was awesome. We had a very large group of people (about 40) and they handled our rambunctious group like it was nothing. And the food was to die for! It was all fresh and melt in your mouth delicious and even past the point of being full no one passed up the delectable dessert options. Highly recommend visiting this enticing and exquisite restaurant!
Dave Friedman
ate there last night and meal was superb. started with a bowl of gumbo and then the mississippi rabbit fricassee. the portion was more than ample (i’m a big guy) and extremely tasty. my wife had the gumbo and the cast ironed seared (sword) fish and shrimp. another winner. we’ll certainly be back.
Robert Farrell
Absolutely incredible! A true highlight of our New Orleans trip. Food and service were perfect. Our gumbo and fried oyster salad were perfect starters. The main event was the redfish court-bouillon, as good of a meal as I have ever had. Cannot recommend enough!
Eleftherios Zisis
After a long day walking, exhausted and starving, we arrived at gris-gris, a nice little place which claimed it had the best gumbo in New Orleans.
Unfortunately, I hadn't try so many a gumbo to say if it's the best in the city, but I can say for sure it was the best I had so far. Rich in flavour and delicious.
The main dishes we had, the gris-gris grits and the chicken on biscuit were mindblowing. We enjoyed every bit of the food and the service was very friendly and attentive.
If you are in the are you should try what this restaurant has to offer!
karen chiu
I am from CA and I’m used to cook my own meal, I eat very lightly, and it was difficult for me to find something that’s not too heavy for dinner in New Orleans.
Grid-Gris was perfect. We ordered many dishes and I am a picky eater but everything tasted so good and not oily at all, even all the deserts were in perfect sweetness. It’s like “you can’t go wrong ordering anything from Gris Gris” that kind of confident. I’m so impressed!
My favorites are the pork chops and the jumbo shrimps.
Service was good, and we even got a private space on the upper floor ( we had about 20 people ). Gris Gris is going to be the place that I will share with all my friends and colleagues if they visit New Orleans.
Thank you for serving home made like healthy food that keeps me healthy during my travel.
T. Gafford
Great decor. Loved the paneled walls. The chicken gizzard appetizer is their best hidden secret. You won't regret trying it. For our main meal we all ordered the hominy shrimp grits which were pleasantly full of flavor.
Alex Feldstein
Best shrimp and grits I've ever had and I have visited Georgia many times with excellent shrimp and grits. The gumbo soup was also tops. My wife had chicken and dumplings. Very good food. The service was very good and the place looks great. Five stars deserved.
David Ryan
Sat upstairs in the private room because we had a large party and it was a fantastic experience. Ambiance, all the appetizers (we tried them all, including the rice and beans), cocktails (sipped on a delicious King Emmett) and the service were incredible too. The roast beef po boy was disappointing, however it would not stop me from returning.
valeria paixao
Delicious food, I loved the duck, my brother loved his lamb, good gumbo. The desert was too much sweet.
Goonie Googoo
I had the chicken and dumplings very fine comfort food. I would have liked another slice of Texas toast in lieu of a couple dumplings , but as I said fantastic fare.
Alan Tu
Eating on the balcony for brunch is the best way to experience this restaurant. Classic southern brunch dishes but with a nice twist
Karen OBoyle
Gris-Gris. Go soon as once the secret of this gem gets out, the waiting list will be for years. Sublime menu cooked to perfection, impeccable service and easy access to Chef and owner. We tried the gumbo which was rich and tasty, green fried tomatoes with shrimp and chicken gizzards. The chicken gizzards were out of this world served in a delectable gravy that left your taste buds wanting more. We finished with Bread Pudding which converted this traditional Anglo!
An amazing meal in a warm and tasteful atmosphere overseen by friendly staff! Thank you for a wonderful gastromic experience. We will be back!
Jade Blank
The food is fresh and full of flavor. If you're looking for southern comfort food, this is definitely the place for you! Highly recommend reservations at the Chef's table.
Hospitality Of New Orleans
A fantastic new place on Magazine St. The menu is simple but with tons of great options. The oyster po boy was to die for and the grilled shrimp with fried green tomatoes is a must.
William Armstrong
sat at the kitchen bar and got to see the chefs at work, highly recommended (especially if you enjoyed The Bear). the whole could not finish the whole redfish, that's a meal for two.
Myche Tician
Nice little place that feels more like a bar that serves upscale food than a high-end restaurant. But the food is definitely a higher quality than what you would find in a bar but the atmosphere is kind of bar like with many of the tables being high tops. Wide array of different types of food all of which appear to be prepared quite well. I was disappointed that the hamburger they serve didn't include any onions that just seems odd. Gumbo is very rich as is many of their other dishes. The Caesar salad was excellent. I will definitely be going back
JeAnne Swinley
After so many absolute rave reviews on a local foodie board, I think my expectations were set a little too high. This place was perfectly ok, but absolutely not a run back to any time soon. Just way too many other great places in the city... Especially at this price point.
jason colbert
Recommend to me by my awesome chef friend JD, and he was spot on again.... The food was absolutely amazing and the service was above and beyond and the atmosphere (chef table bar seating) just puts this dining experience over the top!
Maryl
Excellent food and a fun ambiance. We ordered the duck breast and the pork chop. Both were superb. We sat on the rooftop terrace and enjoyed a lovely view and pleasant evening temperature. Our server, Michael, was knowledgeable and fun. All in all, a delightful evening.
Steven Taylor
We enjoyed our gumbo and the whole red fish. I would definitely return.
Vlad Zarney
Chicken gizzards were to die for. Everything was delicious especially the red fish.
Larayna Gilmor
Great balcony. Great oyster BLT. Waiter Leon was great. Loved everything about this place.
David Hernandez
I have friends who work here, they always told me to go and try the food, and I was not disappointed, very good food and drinks, I need to go back and try more.
Mikaela Harris
One of our new favorite places to visit when we're in town. Staff was amazing and let us change our minds on our seats outside. Service and food were great. Tried brunch this time and both of our meals were delicious.
Jeffory Marker
Disappointing. We stay on Magazine street every time we come for personal reasons. Stopped in at Gris Gris several times and never able to get in without a res. Must be a place to go so this time we make one. Service was excellent (Santana rocks!) but that could not make up for the cold food, we are out of “x” and the hotel lobby bar wine list. Highlight of the night was the Chicken Gizzard Grillades which showed the potential for the night but the cold double cut pork chop showed the great potential with the greens and potatoes was so disappointing. Only if it had only been warm, let alone hot. Was it a Sunday night hurry to get everyone out? We will not know as it is off our list. Time to go back to our tried and trues on magazine and in the warehouse.
Nicole Marie
Great little place on Magazine street, wandered into this place looking for breakfast / brunch and found some amazing shrimp and grits.
Also great staff and great atmosphere.
Spencer Zhang
Great food, great surroundings
Hanna Quinn
A must eat, when in New Orleans!
We had the Gris Gris shrimp and grits and the Coolinary three course meal they offered and it was exquisite. I have tried shrimp and grits at many establishments and I can easily say this was my favorite 🔥 I look forward to coming back next time I’m in New Orleans 😁
Luiza Leao
Food was really good; service was nice; however it was very hard to thoroughly enjoy it because we were sitting at the bar and an enormous cockroach creeped toward us and made its way through the bar until another customer smashed it dead with a napkin. I understand that roaches are a NOLA problem, but I didn’t expect to see that in fairly upscale restaurant — or at least not to get a drink for free at least or an apology from the bartender/waitress. We had the oyster pie and the shrimp and grits, and both were delicious— but it was not an enjoyable meal, sadly.
Laurie Rector McCowan
We love everything about this place. The food. The spectacular drinks (Ethan is THE man!). The staff. And the owner, Eric Cook, is welcoming and amazing. Visit them soon. Watch them cook. Then head upstairs to the balcony or bar. Just go, you'll be more than satisfied.
Rick Creelman
We went for brunch I had the chicken with biscuits and gravy. My wife had shrimp and grits The food was excellent. Kind of classy place
Evan Kaverman
Song drinks and food menu. Appetizers and entrees were great. Dessert menu left some to be desired, and wife found a rogue hair in the bread pudding (as immediately acknowledged and comped). Balcony dining was a nice seeing to see the city and enjoy the cool evening.
Kathryn Ryan-Dale
Lovely neighborhood spot with delightful dishes. Our waiter, Drex, was a delight — very efficient, friendly, knows the menu well, and made terrific recommendations.
T’Reena Clark
Food was okay but have definitely had better. The atmosphere was very nice though and the bread pudding dessert was delicious
Jason Broom
Awesome restaurant. Delicious food. Unique atmosphere. Everything I look for is a great dining experience. #Geauxeat

Amazing place in the lower garden district.
TJ P
Visited twice while here in New Orleans. Service was impeccable and food was incredible. Would definitely come back again!
Christin Calloway
Such an awesome space & amazing food. Reasonably priced spin on comfort food. Would definitely return and suggested it to a few friends already.
Christine Gould
Relaxing meal ay Gris-Gris. Shrimp and grits and the roast beef sandwich were great. Good, friendly vibe.
Mark Slupek
Fantastic food, fantastic service! Ask to sit at the kitchen counter and watch them make your food. Loved it!!
Paul Rosco
Was on our must eat list in N.O. and it exceeded every expectation! We made it for brunch and the Shrimp and Grits, Gumbo, Chicken and Biscuits w/ Gravy were all outstanding! Support a veteran, Semper Fi!
Danette Resciniti
So glad we asked a local about were to go. Great food, staff and experience
Adam Rogers
Pretty good, swordfish was really good, however the pork belly appetizer wasn't even heated and it should certainly have been at least thrown in the fryer or on the grill to warm and crisp, and I know this is hardly their fault but the tap water tasted like mud, and my drink didn't get refilled so. 🤷♂️ …
Anthony Petruccelli
Recommended by a local friend. I've tried swordfish in several states and overseas, and the seared swordfish special was thoroughly delicious, best I've had so far! Fantastic experience, will definitely revisit when back in NOLA.
Lori Crigger
For the life of me, I can’t imagine why some of these reviews say that they were underwhelmed. I was blown out of the park.
We had the oyster BLT. The flavours were well balanced with a sweet tomato jam and chunky chewy bacon squares. Unlike any BLT that you have ever had.
My duck was perfectly done, served with pecan crusted sweet potatoes that paired so nicely with the duck.
My husband has the dumplings, a nice chewy dumpling, with a robust gravy with carrots. “It was Good!” He says.
Gentry Ideus
Food wad awesome and so was our server Emily! (Fun fact: this place is followed by Gordon Ramsay on Instagram)
Jennifer J
Food is fresh and good. Service was terrible. Lots of waiting around. Also, soft drinks are small fountain drinks without free refills. However, server did not mention this when providing refills. Would not expect a fountain drink to be extra to refill, especially when small and watered down. Definitely no plans to return soon.
Paul Friesen
Cool and funky restaurant with upscale food serving up local versions creole dishes . I had the chicken and andouille sausage gumbo and it was amazing . Good local find !
Matthew Thews
We found this place while planning for our trip to NOLA due to its good reputation. It lived up to that and more. The food here is innovative and fantastically executed. I was able to try the duck, rabbit, pork chop, and chicken & dumplings. All were excellent. Server Micheal was a real treat in how he interacted with our table. Chef Eric and his cooks knocked this meal out of the park!
Hiliard Sumpter
My wife, a friend and I dined here after running the Rock-'n'-roll half marathon. We really enjoyed our experience at Gris-Gris. We sat at the bar near the kitchen. We were able to watch them cook our food and ask the cooks questions about the food. We shared the chicken gizzard grillades and chicken and andouille gumbo appetizers. I enjoyed the gumbo but the chicken gizzards we're the bomb. I had the shrimp and grits and my wife had the cast iron seared fish & shrimp. They were both wonderful entrees. The cocktail were delicious.
CJG Johnson
Our large party had an issue with being outside on the patio. Initially the seating was pleasant, but after about 20 minutes the sun started moving inward and the seating became quite unpleasant. We noticed other patrons leaving which made other tables available. We requested to move to another empty table that wouldn't be directly in the sun. The manager (short, black male with a bald head and long beard) offered no resolution. His response was no we couldn't move because other people would be coming and the tables were reserved. My issue is that the tables aren't numbered and in that moment they were free. We were still waiting on our entrees so why could we not switch tables? When patrons disclose discomfort, some type of resolution or apology for the inability to resolve the matter should have been offered. The staff and food were great but management can be better. If not for this issue I think my review would have been a 5 star review!
Evette
Absolutely phenomenal!! Wish it wasn't so far from Seattle!!
Lior Hirshhoren Lavie
Awesome food and great value for money but the service was very slow and we waited about an hour to get our food.
DK G
Food was very good. Service was on par, menu was sufficient but not expansive. Chicken and dumplings was good comfort food but dumplings a bit over salted. Duck was cooked perfectly and sweet potato casserole was a good complement but it was a very small portion. Seating was okay but indoors was limited. Would return.
Becca F
I've dined here before over the years but this was my first brunch...and, quite frankly, probably the best meal so far. The chicken and biscuits with bacon gravy was delicious and I'm never disappointed by the grits. Enjoyed a pineapple and a grapefruit mimosa but the real star beverage was the Galaxy Lemonade. The bread pudding dessert was perfect. Big portions all around at a well justified price point. The staff was friendly and kind. It was busy but I never had to wait too long. Thank you, Gris Gris Team!
Debra Bell
Wonderful food, great atmosphere, very attentive staff, overall great experience!! Will definitely be back!!
Katherine Sigblad
This is a gem of a restaurant in the Garden District! The food is superb overall- quality, flavors, presentation. If anything, I’d say the portions veer on the side of being too big. I know it’s a cultural/regional thing, however we actually prefer smaller portions which are better for sharing and diversifying how many plates you can order. Excellent service. A critique is the TVs inside. It wasn’t very appetizing to passively watch a wrestling match on TV in the background when we came for a romantic dinner from out of town. Not sure but it seems to be a trend amongst many restaurants in NoLa to have TVs and play sports, however Gris-Gris is a nice restaurant and not a sports bar. Plus we noticed people did not come to watch TV. Personally, I think it would elevate the experience to remove the TV and instead play cool music in the background.
Another tip would be to have fans on the balcony area outside. With no air flow the humidity was unbearable. Beautiful balcony views from across the street on the balcony though.
Highly recommend ordering the fried oyster salad, shrimp and grits, and the rabbit. We really wanted to try dessert but felt too full after those three dishes so we had t pass.
Excellent wine menu too, and the tequila mambo cocktail was delicious and very pretty.
Jonathan Colella
The appetizers were really great, as was the chef. She was charismatic and made my mother's day plans with my mom very enjoyable!
We didn't order main courses but instead had several of the appetizers
Joey Bruett
WOW! The food is stellar! We started with the Chicken Gizzard Grillades. I grew up eating fried gizzards with my dad, but these were sous vide for hours first, then fried, and served with grits & gravy. They were amazing! I had fricaseed rabbit for my entree. It came with roux gravy, rice, and a slice of cornbread. The rabbit was good, but breaking up that cornbread and mixing it in with gravy & rice with some hot sauce was the highlight. Bonus was being seated downstairs by the grill and watching the staff cook the food. It exceeded my expectations, I will be recommending it to friends, and will one day be back.
Lynn Holmes
Love the vibe and the food is fantastic. Staff is super friendly. I had the shrimp and grits. Now I get it!
Paige Schroder
I came here for lunch and ordered the chicken avocado sandwich. The drinks and atmosphere were great, but unfortunately the chicken was noticeably undercooked. Half of my sandwich was fine but the other half had a raw chicken breast that was inedible. I notified the waitress and did not receive an apology or a discount on the bill. I hate to complain at restaurants, but this was unacceptable. I was really excited to eat here, but my experience was not up up to par.
Lemuel Chissell
I had the Shrimp & Grits and it was excellent!!! And don't snooze on the Bread Pudding it's a must have. Great ambiance!! Also Diane was our server and she was awesome!!!
Djuana Stoakley
Delicious New Orleans cuisine with a modern flair. Inventive takes on classic cocktails, like the frozen Dark & Stormy. Reservations suggested.
Ximena Duque
Swordfish & shrimp was very salty. The chicken dumplings was excellent.
Chris Murphy
One of the best places to eat in New Orleans, the bar seating in the kitchen is a great experience. Insider tip, if you partied too hard the night before, get the chicken gizzards with gravy and a fried egg on top!
gregory hoffman
Brunch was excellent. Drinks were tasty. Great time
Regan Choffin
You'll need to make a reservation to get a seat in this high demand spot. The food is excellent and at great prices. Please try the whole redfish. It's plated exquisitely, as a sort of deconstructed gumbo. The sauce complemented the lightly breaded and fried fish and it will be a standout dish at the table. Their cocktails are super tasty, too. We really enjoyed people watching on the patio and there is great cover from the rain.
Dominic Shaw
Good, but a little overpriced for what it was. I expect to be a little more "wowed" for $30+ per entree and while nothing was bad, none of the dishes I tried were that unique or had me dying for more. Swordfish and shrimp was probably my favorite. Porkchops were a little underwhelming although the greens and potatoes were excellent.
Rod McGillivray
Fantastic! Tried chicken gizzards, shrimp creole, and the rib eye. Absolutely wonderful. Great service, great drinks, couldn't have been better. Must try this restaurant!
Taryn Alexandros
So delicious which is a feat in New Orleans. I've been multiple times. The Eat Fit fish is just divine! How is that an Eat Fit menu item?!?!?
Samid Viveros
This was a welcomed surprise after our walking tour of the garden district. We came here as a recommendation from our guide so our hopes were not very high (most guides end up recommending safe "bland" restaurants.) Well, Gris-Gris is anything but bland. We got seated at the kitchen "bar". First we didn't like this but quickly realized this was were the real action was and it was a great experience. I tried the shrimp and grits and was absolutely phenomenal. The gumbo was equally as fine. For dessert, the bread pudding is a nice option.
Creighton Miller
Had the daily fish special. Well seasoned, perfectly fresh. Great.
Dave Letourneau
The chefs table/bar is our favorite place to sit. The food is always on point!
Craig Eugene
Wow, what an amazing atmosphere and a lovely place to dine at. Employees were so nice and the food was amazing!!!
Amy Moore
Pork chop, mashed potatoes and collard greens were fantastic. Had never had collard greens and were very good. Excellent shrimp and swordfish with sauteed vegetables. Bread pudding was OUT of this world!!! Oh my heavens! Worth every penny. Mmm, mmm!
Anne Cheng
Good vibes, friendly staff, large servings, and nice balcony seating. But, mediocre food. We got the oyster and gizzard appetizers. Both were soup-like. we weren't sure how they were meant to be shared by large groups because we were only given plates. The oyster was delicious but confusing with bites involving large pieces of artichoke, cooked oysters, and raw oysters. I think the raw oysters might have been an accident. The gizzards were salty and somewhat homogenous in texture and flavor. The main courses we ordered (rabbit and fish) didn't impress. Fish was super dry. No vegetables on either. Both entrees involved slicing meat out of bone, and the rabbit was not particularly tender. The rice was on point, but that really should never be the spotlight of these dishes. Food was ok overall, but for the price, my expectations were a bit higher than what I received. We left feeling disappointed. We went during the holidays, so I wonder if food quality was affected by the holiday.
Rachael Ross
Absolutely delicious! Lana was wonderful. Food was superb! Enjoyed very much!
Donald Manalla
Went for brunch the Sunday before Mother’s Day. Place was packed, luckily we had made reservations. Beautiful day, sat outside on the balcony. Our server was phenomenal. Drinks were amazing and the food top notch. Ordered the Flambeaux Shrimp appetizer as an afterthought, it turned out to be our favorite menu item. Everything we ordered was impeccably delicious. Can’t wait to go back and try the dishes we missed.
Elizabeth Cupelo
Absolutely amazing experience. Sat at the bar and watched them cook. Chef was so friendly and the food was seriously unreal. Would recommend this place to anyone in my life. 5 stars easy.
Dwayne Tillotson
Great meal. Everything was exceptional. Sat at the bar are and watched our meals cooked.
Tine Cross
A bit of a wait but so worth it, good service and food

Had lunch at Chef Eric Cook’s newest restaurant today, Saint John, and that dining experience was so noteworthy I decided to try his other restaurant, Gris Gris, for dinner and was not disappointed. In fact, the food, service and atmosphere were exceptional in every respect. Chef Eric and his outstanding team run a very efficient establishment. The hostess Sam even called a cab for me! Highly recommended.
Pat Blackwell
Very friendly staff. I came for a late lunch and was seated on their lovely balcony, what a treat! My server, Michael, recommended I start with the.Oyster BLT....A fried oyster, slab of bacon, in tomato jam. It was a taste sensation I had never considered. I followed that up with some gumbo, and was delighted with the obvious care they put into this creation.. My goal of e taste of New Orleans has been widened. This was a lovely restaurant, and I am so happy I found it on my way to the Garden District.
Candise Schexnyder
We wanted to try somewhere we hadn't been in NOLA. This spot did not disappoint! We didn't have a reservation (Sunday night) but they were ae to get us in and seat us at the 2nd floor bar. Even the bar seats were roomy & comfy. They have a nice drink menu & ALL the food we ordered was AWESOME!
Chih Chen Yeh
So good so delicious! A restaurant with a great atmosphere and great service.
Gonca Acikalin
After a hot and humid day, great ambiance on the balcony, short but excellent wine list (we had the last bottle of The Prisoner sauvignon blanc), very kind service, refined cuisine. Definitely worth to try.
Hinnie M. Chan
Oh yes, OH YES!!! Want Southern food without all the oil?? Gourmet right here! Delicious all around.
Ashley Thom
Everything was really good! The gumbo and Caesar salad were my favorites. The decor and space layout are nice. The service is personable and attentive. Overall, a great brunch spot!
Jojuan Newton
Get the chicken and biscuits, i have never had a soupy chicken and biscuits more use to the cream. But oh my have my eyes been open. Also the 2 female bartenders are absolute sweet hearts and very attentive who is sitting at their bar. Will be back and will recommend.
Margaret Greenwald
Five stars all the way for amazing food. Chef Cook is a pro if I ever saw one. Everything we ordered was perfectly executed and delicious, from the oyster pie to the best bread pudding I’ve ever had. Try to get a seat by the kitchen, we enjoyed watching all the gorgeous plates come out almost as much as we enjoyed eating them. Cocktails were underwhelming, next time I’ll order wine, but not a big deal. Service was awesome too. Nice work guys!
Bernie Wallace
I may have edited my photos but you cannot edit the wonderful flavors of the food and the vibe of the restaurant. Do yourself a favor and stop by.
Alexandra Forseth
Absolutely delicious - every single thing we ordered was incredible. Oyster BLT, House Salad, Filet Mignon, and the decadent bread pudding! Will be coming back!
Jen Kovacs
We loved the food here so much we came back twice during our visit to NOLA. For appetizers: go with the gumbo or the shrimp. For the entree definitely the red snapper. I am not usually a whole fish kind of person but trust me you will not be disappointed. It is the best whole fish I have ever had. And the bread pudding is also a must. Servers are nice and the ambiance was also great. Thank you chef Eric- your food is incredible.

The Oyster BLT is such an original take on a delicious classic, my mouth is still watering even now. Not pictured the amazing whole redfish and sticky bun bread pudding 11/10 would reccomend

Beautiful meal, starter of crunchy flambeaux shrimp, with super californian house red, duck for me, creole trout (whole) for partner. The desserts were also good.
Marissa Junius
Food was amazing! Killian was the bomb dot com — try the oyster pie and take in the swanky environment and elevated cocktail menu.
Marquess Melendez
This is awesome bc you go the shef cooking right in front of you. It's amazing experience you have to come here. When you come to New Orleans
Prick
Absolutely loved it!!! I ate dinner here twice during my New Orleans vacation. It was amazing. I highly recommend getting reservation on the balcony. I never had clams before and was very hesitant. I ordered the fried clams and here and they were delicious. For an entree I had the pork with potatoes and veggies. The 2nd night I was here I had the shrimp and grits. Both dishes were absolutely delicious. This was the perfect restaurant for my Nola vacation.
Genevieve Sweeney
Dined here this evening, and everything from the service to the ambiance to the food was top notch. Started with the gumbo which was fabulous and spicy, pork chops and rabbit for the main course and both were amazing. Ended the meal with the bread pudding - so damn good. Cocktails were tasty as well. Sat outside on the second floor but downstairs you can sit by the kitchen and watch the chefs cook - will do this next time. Because yes, I am a tourist, but the food here (and NOLA in general) is so good and it’s such a fun town that I will definitely be back.

They have the Roux and the Bayou Vibe with Food to Match.

Amazing experience top to bottom! We went there for my wife's birthday and sat at the kitchen counter facing the kitchen. The moment we walked in we were greeted with a smile by Executive Chef and Owner Eric Cook. From there we were seated upfront, and began eating and drinking our way through his delicious versions of modern Louisiana fare! Our servers were all excellent. A day later, and my wife is still saying, "that was the best dining experience of my life!" Bravo Gris Gris!!!
Jered Hight
Pleasant experience with the staff, food was excellent and parking was easy. Can't ask for more.
Meg Weathers
We had dinner here, there is outdoor seating for those wanting to be outside. The food was good overall although my shrimp and grits was well cooked but lacking complexity in flavor so I probably wouldn't get it again there. The bread pudding was amazing though. Highly recommend that one.
Brinny Gatewood
An absolute experience from head to toe. The place is so cute and I love the location uptown on magazine Street. It's actually in the lower garden District. The menu was small and perfected and everything I put in my mouth was a flavor explosion! Chef Eric was there and put up with how annoying we were period definitely fan girls... Having that kind of attention from one of your favorite chefs was definitely incredible. The cocktails were out of this world! we went for brunch, I'll definitely be going back to check out the dinner menu. I highly recommend this place especially if you like to support a good, small and local New Orleanian business.
Update 10/26/22 - we still love Eric Cook!
Kevin Do
Service was on point, and the food was superb.
Gregory Schlee
Outstanding... great meal, excellent service and the open kitchen is very inviting. Owner is right there visiting diners. No doubt one of NOLA'S best restaurants.
Tina Roberts, REALTOR
GOSH!!! So Good!! and friendly atmosphere. I wished I could eat everything on the menu.
Thank you, Eric Cook!!
Leroy Johnson
Went with a group of friends and we all thought the food was amazing! Service was great too., as the hostess & waitress were all polite, friendly, and professional. The manager and the head chef himself even came out to check on us. Overall, I will most definitely be back again!
w ss
Almost excellent. NOLA has wonderful restaurants and this is one of the best. Love the food, everything well made but a few dishes were just a bit shy of perfect but still nice. We would definitely go back but would find a better way to make a reservation as possibly they were just training new hires.
Tiffany Banks
I've eaten all over this country and honestly, I wasn't impressed. I took my family here because we were in town from Georgia and the reviews were good plus I wanted my younger kiddos to get a feel and taste of "fine" dining. The chicken gizzards were very good. The shrimp appetizer was bland. The tea was not sweet, but I won't hold that against them because I'm not sure how sweet people in N.O. like their tea, although real sweet tea is supposed to be a southern thing. The shrimp and grits which were the highlight of many of the reviews I'd read were just meh. And the portions were small. I'm very disappointed in the southern and creole cuisine this go round in NOLA. The people leaving these reviews must have bland tastebuds or not used to thoroughly seasoned food. The staff was very friendly and accommodating though which was a plus and why I gave it 3 stars.
Dean White
One of the best non-Asian restaurants I have ever been to in the United States as far as food goes. The swordfish was perfectly cooked and seasoned. I rank this 3rd best restaurant in my travels, behind Soul Gastrolounge in Charlotte, NC and Ceviche 105 in Miami, FL. If they upped their service and ambience, I would imagine they could secure a Michelin star; however, I would not change a thing. I highly recommend this place.
Heidi Hollins
This restaurant was amazing. We had the Chef's table! We overheard someone call it the bar, but let me say that the Chef's Table is FAR from what others may call the bar. It's an unforgettable experience and a show that comes with stories, seeing the art of food and if you're a socializeryou get to meet those next to you. Overall, the attitude of the staff, ambiance, and food was amazing from the moment you stepped foot inside the door. Highly recommended and can't wait to visit again.
Jo C
Great atmosphere and even better tasting food. Highly recommended to come here because literally the entire menu is great.
Monika C
Based on the reviews I expected fantastic, instead I got good. Which is bad I just probably wouldn't go out of my way to eat their again. The shrimp and grits were uninspiring and the gumbo was chunks of chicken.
A B
One of many great places to eat outside the French Quarter. Highly recommend the Garden District where this place is located. Must make a reservation they were not taking walk-ins at the time.
George Bull
Really great food and prices were nice too! The staff were all friendly. We got a table on the balcony right by a heater so: perfect! Would recommend this place to anyone
Leslie Lawhun
One of my favorite places in New Orleans! Love sitting downstairs and watch the kitchen work! Gumbo is some of the best in the city! Oyster BLT app is a must! Drinks are on point! Staff is friendly and efficient.
Candis Copeland
All food was excellent, drinks were amazing. In addition, service was top notch and they accommodated a last minute reservation. My party tried blueberry pain perdu, crawfish omlette, chicken gizzards, flambeaux shrimp, bloody mary, roxe, treme tempest, and mimosas (pinapple and orange).
rudresh ghosh
Loved it. Great food, better service!
Jamie Laidler
Absolutely fantastic food and service, Killian tendered for every need and was very thoughtful.
Superb food and service.
Thanks
Jamie
James Kelly
Mostly good, but a few let downs so it's a 4. The mains where the issue. Far too salty on the grits. Undercooked fries. The appetizers and dessert were great however.
Robyn Dobbs
Absolutely amazing meal! The bartenders upstairs were so entertaining as we waited for our spots downstairs. Both young men were so pleasant and even explained differences between alcohols to my husband and I. Once we moved downstairs, the wonderful experience carried on. Our server was on her A game and watching our meal being prepared was amazing. Chef Chris and Chef Eric put together an amazing meal and were very talkative and also interactive with the guests. I have a seafood allergy, so I was concerned about the gumbo, but Chef Eric assured me that they rotate what type of gumbo they make each day and today was chicken and sausage. Let me just say, it was delicious! My husband had oyster BLT and cleaned his plate. We tried gizzards for the first time and were blown away. The steak we ate was perfection and the secret steak sauce was just as great. Then, we ended our night with chocolate cheesecake and a bread pudding. The chocolate cheesecake was made by a local man. I loved how it was decadent but also that Gris Gris would support local small businesses like that. It just shows what type of character these owners have.
Overall, A+ meal, A+ service. We cannot wait to come back!
Tracy Braswell
Excellent dining experience! We stopped for lunch and had the shrimp and grits and the chicken avocado sandwich. Delicious food, fabulous atmosphere, and very pleasant staff. Oh, and you must get the peach frose!
KG Catucci
I've been waiting many months for Gris Gris to reopen, and was not disappointed.
Every interaction with staff was friendly, professional, and on time.
Every aspect of my visit was top shelf.
Really enjoyed the gumbo, and the ceaser salad was on point. I loved the perfectly cooked sugarcane duck. And, I had the pleasure of finishing my wife's chicken and dumplings. A dish I look forward to ordering for myself.
Cocktails were masterfully crafted, and the sticky bun bread pudding will haunt my culinary dreams.
Angela Crowley
I absolutely loved the chicken and dumplings. One of the best I've ever had. :)
Elizabeth
The service was better than the food and that is saying something because the food was delicious!
Tom Ulrich
Favorite meal in New Orleans. Ordered from the 3 course {$40} Reveillon Menu. Goat Cheese & Cracklings were inspiring.
Chase Nelson
Some of the best southern food I've ever had and also some of the best brunch food I've had in NOLA. I stopped in and sampled a few things all of which were great. The shrimp and grits was easily the best I've ever had. The pot roast dish was crazy as well. If I ever come back to NOLA I'm stopping back in.
Mike Shields
Great food, friendly staff. 5 star food, with low social pressure to be fancy.
Tammy Nguyen
Seriously, I don’t know why it took so long for us to come here! We made reservations for lunch, and BOY were we happy we did. The whole bottom floor was crowded but a table was ready for us upstairs. The food came out very quickly for 12:30 noon at lunch. I’m pretty sure my partner tried to snatch my half of our shared oyster BLT when I wasn’t looking. We had the shrimp and grits and seafood stuffed crab and honestly it was a little on the salty side but overall the food, experience, service and atmosphere deserves 5 stars.
Nakia Lloyd
My husband, my son, and I enjoyed a wonderful meal at Gris-Gris! The meal was absolutely delicious and the service was wonderful. Hats off to the chefs!.... as well as the hostess (who squeezed us in), and the server (Elliott)- he was very pleasant and professional. 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾.... We are already planning our return. Traveled April ‘2021. …
Fernando p
Made a reservation for indoor seating. When we arrived they told us no indoor seating left, the host told us that other hosts messed up and sat people indoors. It was a very chilly night, they had heaters on one side of the table so the other side was freezing. The only reason rating is not lower is because the waitress was kind and helpful and food was good.
Irina D
Meh. The clay pot swordfish was overcooked and over-salted. The veggies were yummy though The duck was way too sweet--the glaze was more so a sauce and overpowering with sugar.
Kizzy Vieux

Brian Hogan
We were lured here by the internet offer of free rice and beans on Monday but they've ended that offer. And they only make the red beans and rice in the morning on monday. Almost everything we thought we were going to get was unavailable.
Todd Ochsner
The food was AMAZING. The only thing better was the service provided by Bella. We will visit Gris-Gris again when we come back to NOLA. So impressed we bought t-shirts to advertise for you.
SCATAX original
Good food and good service, we had to make a reservation to just be able to sit outside...
KC Perilloux
The Oyster BLT is delicious! Try the Galaxy Lemonade too.
Sandra Bell
Wow!!!! We didnt know anything about this place but liked the reviews and menu. So we went without a reservation and was lucky to get the last 2 seats at the bar. What an amazing treat! We got to watch all the amazing dishes coming out & helped us decide. Some of the best food we’ve ever had!!! I dont think you could go wrong with anything there. I’ve worked with a lot of restauranteurs as a pr professional and havent seen one executing like this in a very long time. The owner was right there in the pit as the expediter , quality checking every single dish as it came off the fire before it went out. The whole staff was real top notch and genuine. Cant say enough about this great restaurant and we will be telling our friends in Dallas when they head down to New Orleans.
Mark Fig
An outstanding experience with the personal touch and blessings of the general manager miss Lyn Morein who personally took care of us. Thank you for all the hospitality. Real southern hospitality. Chef Eric's food is beyond superb. Excellent cook on the sword fish and pork chop. A true pleasure and delight.
Joe Gerrity
My first experience here was fantastic. The balcony seating was well done, and even on a hot day there was a nice breeze coming down magazine. Drinks were all tasty, and the happy hour was a solid deal. Food-wise I absolutely loved the chicken and biscuits. Would return even if that was the only good thing on the menu, which it wasn't. The deserts were a hit as well, especially the honey bun bread pudding.
I'll definitely return soon. So glad to have it as a neighborhood restaurant.
Mina Haruna
Fantastic food. The duck was on point and staff were very friendly
Victoria Butler
Amazing!! Went here for dinner with friends and loved every bite. I had the caesar salad to start. It was a good size portion. Then had the chicken and dumplings. To die for!! 🤤 It was like eating homemade chicken noodle soup wrapped in a hug. So fantastic!! Then I wrapped up with the chocolate cake. If you like chocolate, this is for you. It was moist and layered with chocolate ganache. The dinner was phenomenal. It was probably one of the best I've had in the few years I've lived here in NOLA.
Bailey Cooksey
Wish I could give 10 stars. Will be thinking about this night for a while. No frills, no gimmicks just insanely delicious food, beautifully presented. Must order the Oyster Pie. We sat at the kitchen counter, but upper balcony looked idyllic too. Wonderful service from Rosalind. Thank you Gris-Gris!
Bill Campbell
The entrees make it 5 stars. The bourbon peach cobbler takes it to 6.
Hamp Hampton
Amazing food amazing atmosphere staff was great and super friendly 👌🏾 …
Little Birdie Travel
I thought everything we tried was lacking flavor and disappointing considering the reviews and the price. The chicken dumplings were underwhelming and hardly any chicken. The fried oysters on the salad was bland and tasteless as if no seasoning was used on the batter and plated beside a ball of lettuce and blue cheese for $14. The gumbo was ok, but nothing special, again pretty bland and not much substance. The shrimp appetizer was ok as well but nothing out of this world. I wanted to love it but missed the mark for me.
Bridgette Perry
Killian was amazing!!!!!!! We had a great time! Food was phenomenal!!!!!
Karin Muzyka
Norissa is a superb waitress. She recommended chicken and dumplings. It was superb. She was extremely attentive. Thank you.
Brittany Rogers
Oh my god! No review would do this place justice because it is just that damn good. I only have a picture of my drink to share because the food was too hard to resist once it was served. I recommend you try anything and you won’t be disappointed.
I also want to give a shout out to our waitress, chef and the crew. They were all so welcoming and engaging with us. I got two compliments for my skull blouse as they let me know twice that I’d fit right in and chef was gracious enough to take a picture with me and my friends on a tour of the private party space. It really is a blessing to be in the presence of someone who loves what they do and shares those experiences with you. I will forever be grateful for this delicious experience! Enjoy whatever you eat and make sure to show the crew some love!
pitviper77474
Highly recommend the chicken gizzard grillers! So tender and great flavor! Seafood stuffed crab was phenomenal! Loved being able to sit at the bar and watch the chefs prepare our food. Date night was a hit thanks to Chef Cook and Gris Gris! I recommend this place to anyone!
Windy Boudreaux
Amazing cuisine! Patio and balcony dining are available as well as bar seating and the awesome chef's table. If you need a private dining experience, they have one for the ultimate experiece of large parties! Reservations suggested!

I took my wife here for an anniversary dinner. The food, service, and ambiance was impeccable. This is the place that the locals recommend to get some great high quality food which is significantly better than the restaurants in the tourist trap within the French Quarter. Brian was our server. The attention to detail and professional of the server was perfect. The conversation with the owner exemplifies the type of people we believe deserve the American dream, to be successful and take care of your family by striving and being the very best at your craft. The food was amazing. There is not likely to be a better dining experience in New Orleans. Hands down our best meal in New Orleans which is only a short ride away from Bourbon street.
Alyssa Carter
Rainy night in warm setting, sat at chefs table talking to chef/ owner and watching staff prepare our meals. Chef is an artist at plating. My Bibb and fried oyster salad was one of the most delicious dishes I’ve had in New Orleans which is not to say that my shrimp and grits and my husbands double thick pork chop were not superb. Experience was fun and what we needed to take the chill off such a rainy night.
Andy Wright
We bailed on our Antoine's reservation after hearing about this spot in our favorite area of the city. Pork chop was 10/10 on preparation and flavor, shrimp & grits were as good as you will find anywhere. Downstairs is a big open kitchen, upstairs is a pub with a great neighborhood vibe. We sat at the bar and were well taken care of, even down to the complimentary bread pudding at the end. I guess he could tell we loved the food.
Michele Troutman
What a find. Sat at chefs table for lunch and had the best Gumbo Soup ever. Came back for happy hour and sat upstairs at the bar. Drinks and food were great and staff was over the top friendly and interactive. Highly recommend. Philly will be back again.
Andrew Johnson
Beat shrimp and grits I’ve ever had! My family and I sat on the patio for brunch, and had a fantastic time. The inside of the restaurant had a very cool ambience as well. In addition to the shrimp and grits, we ordered the oyster BLT, sticky bun bread pudding, and praline pie, all of which I would highly recommend.
Ray Collins
The food is always excellent. Well-constructed cocktails. If you sit at the Chef's table, you can watch the cooking and prepping of all the dishes and talk to the head Chef—he's very personable, and he'll tell you all about the food!
Sean Keefe
One of our favorite places to dine in New Orleans. I love the gumbo and red beans and rice on Monday’s. Every entree we’ve had here has been delicious. They are always accommodating to people with food allergies as well. Great chef and staff.
Carol Hollister
We stayed in Nola for 7 nights. We award Gris-Gris with the BEST bread pudding; BEST balcony and BEST Hostess. The lady at the door was definitely in charge and ran a good house. You need her.
Kelby
Got the chicken and andouille sausage gumbo and the person I was with got the BBT and it was LOADED, they give you plenty of food. The food was all pretty good and our waiter was great but the lady that sat us was snarky, would be 5 stars besides that!
Danette Geauthreaux
The service and experience were magnificent. The food was delicious and Chef Eric is phenomenal. He knows how to plate a dish beautifully and the flavors of what we had were wonderful. I’ll definitely be back to dine here. ❤️
Barb Ateca
Empty table upstairs able to accommodate our group of 5 but told so sweetly "you'll be sitting outside!" The heaters way insufficient as its 59° out! Our server was phenomenal! Joe you were the best! I don't know how you got banished to the outside today. Been to NOLA for over 12yrs and though the food was good it was cold in seconds!
Jennie Wicker
Just took my Mom to New Orleans for her 75th Bday with my sister. We hit up all the great restaurants and Gris Gris topped our list! We sat down stairs in the special “meet and greet” and Chef was awesome!!!! The food was beyond amazing! I had the shrimp and grits (I didn’t even think I liked grits!!) which was to die for! Chef kept bringing us different items to try and they were all outstanding! The service was impeccable and the hospitality was off the charts!!!
If you are coming to New Orleans or live in the area you HAVE to come to Gris Gris!!! it truly was a highlight of our trip. Well done Chef!!
Christopher Allen
Great spot to check out...off the beaten path and quiet. Great service and very good food.
randy kammeyer
We came to New Orleans from Arizona to see the cardinals, saints game. Our friend Julie who lives there made reservations for 10 of us where we seated at the chefs table. We all ordered something different and the food and service was incredible. Thanks Eric for the amazing food and service. We will be back. Don’t forget to try the bread pudding!
Jayme Y
We had lunch here on Monday, September 9, and it truly was the most enjoyable meal we had in New Orleans. We were seated at the chef's table and interacted with the staff the entire time we were there, and they made us feel like we were in their own home. The food was marvelous, from the amuse-bouche red beans and rice to the Creole Tomato Shrimp Remoulade app, to our entrees, Seafood Stuffed Crab and My Mom's Chicken & Dumplings. Everything that we watched them prepare looked wonderful, and the Open-Faced Pot Roast looked outstanding. Both of us enjoyed the bread pudding for dessert. It was a perfect end to a perfect meal.
We also had cocktails - I loved the Ferrel's Storm and my friend said her Kongo Priestess was out of this world!
So, thank you, Gris-Gris for the fabulous experience, and when we come back in the Spring, you will be #1 on our reservations list.
Narek Dshkhunyan
Great restaurant in probably the best NOLA neighborhood. Loved the outside balcony seating, especially on a sunny warm December afternoon. Yummy food for reasonable prices.
Chris
Enjoyed the duck very much as well as the desserts we split.
Sorin Laza
The food was exceptional. The whole fish was fried to perfection. The staff was very pleasant and made us fell welcome.
Craig Brock
Went here for lunch, but I Sam the Maitre d was amazing.. Had quite a wait going on and she managed it with aplomb! Rachel our Bartender slash waiter picked our meal.. Wow she did great! The chk gizzard app, and amazing, and stl and dvld egg salad and chk and dmplgs.. Wow.. What a meal. Service environment.. Setting.. Amazing.. We'll be back!
Adrian Chernyk
Gris Gris is one of the best meals I’ve had in New Orleans. Came here with a large group of friends to celebrate my brother visiting me for jazz fest. The shrimp and grits and fried green tomatoes were to die for but I tried a little of everything and it was all great. They have a great happy hour as well. The upstairs balcony provides great views over magazine street. Gris Gris is a standout for contemporary New Orleans food. No complaints except they really should take online reservations instead of just phone reservations.
LaVonne “LBooker” Booker
Thank you Gary the tour guide from Southern Tours for telling us about this place. When I tell you this is a MUST on your New Orleans to do list. The service was great (thanks JoJo), the atmosphere upstairs was perfect, the prices were great considering how outstanding every thing was and last the food was made with love.
We had gizzards, gumbo, duck, porkchops, steak someone had shrimp. No one had a complaint about anything.
I will come here again and I recommend this wonderful restaurant if you are in the area.
Franklin Gilley
Really good food, although I have only eaten here twice. Comfort favorites like pot roast and chicken and dumplings. Friendly staff and chef make you really feel welcome and at home. It's nice that the high chair area is arranged around the open kitchen so you get to talk to the kitchen staff and chef if you like.
Chris Smith
Wonderful little place on Magazine St. The chef is on top of his game and the staff are friendly and attentive. Enjoy the balcony or make a reservation at the chef's table downstairs and treat yourself to a great cocktail and meal! You won't be disappointed!
Y and A Haber
New restaurant on a wonderful triangle corner. We sat upstairs on the balcony, enjoying the evening sunlight.
Service was good. The Caesar salad was a bit tired; the chicken & dumplings entrée was topped by roasted carrots that were too hard. Both would also benefit from an update of silverware / plates.
And... if the balcony chairs had cushions, it would be fabulous. We will be back to try the fish.
Josh Horvath
nice atmosphere and the food’s alright, but we had brunch here and 3 out of 4 of us weren’t super happy with what we had ordered
Kathy Weaver
My husband and I dined at Gris Gris yesterday and we had a fantastic experience. The BLT appetizer was incredibly delicious, and the Shrimp and Grits were the best I’ve eaten in New Orleans. And lastly the pork shop with greens with new potatoes was the runaway star of the evening. It was wonderful to watch our meal being prepared, reminded us of the table in Commander’s Palace’s Kitchen! We look forward to our next meal at this divine new restaurant a short walk from our home on Magazine Street. I’m happy my husband peeked in the window during his afternoon stroll! Thanks for inviting him in, Eric!

Over the top from the start. Chi represents professional service with food and beverage knowledge when asked. (She didn't have to go ask). Timely about delivery also.
Thanks for the attention that Lynn and Chi gave to me and more importantly to my dog. (Apollo) The new age of pet friendly restaurants starts here. I refer to everyone there as next level or second mile service because it's way beyond what is required or expected. If you read this and don't go; you missed out. I'm a raving fan. Now you go and decide.
P.s. Lynn Moran style and operation compared to the legends of Ella Brennan and Leah Chase. Good luck and best wishes to the new normal.
Kat McCann
We LOVED it! From the moment we walked in the door, until we finished every last scrumptious bite, we were made to feel welcome! It was if we came into Chef Eric Cook's home! He and his team served everything up hot, fresh, and with lots of love! We spent less than if we had eaten at Antione's, and enjoyed it as much, if not more! When you go, ask to sit around the kitchen table!
Nicholas Cho
Great food. Recommend the oyster blt
W ling
Very nice restaurant and have happy hours for drinks
Karl Hanson
We sat at the countertop. There is outside seating and an upstairs but did not go up. We were a non-reservation walk-in. Andrea? gave excellent service. LGD hamburger was excellent. Rib eye was very good. Asked for medium but I would say it came a bit on the rare side but that is not an issue with us. Caesar salad had a high heart/green ratio. Tasty but just FYI if you are more of a chlorophyll lover.
I will definitely go again and would recommend to others.
Lisa Carlson
Lovely evening dining outside on the upper balcony with a soft cool breeze. Oyster salad, oyster pie, shrimp with fried green tomatoes and gumbo were all amazing. And friendly staff. Looking forward to going back again soon.
Reyne Terrebonne
Really enjoyed this place. Had reservations for balcony table. After sundown it became a little chilly. We requested a heater and was provided one super quick! Shrimp and Grits were divine!
Jesse Young
Above average, good quality fresh food. Go for the atmosphere. The balcony is a great place to enjoy a meal, good sauces. Overall, a quality meal.
Wouter de Bie
This was the first restaurant in NOLA I ate at when I visited the city for the first time. Since then, Gris-Gris has been one of my favorite (if not my favorite) restaurants in the world. Now I live here and it still holds the title. This place has one of the best gumbos in town and their oyster po'boy is the creamiest there is. Not to forget about their surf and turf with pork belly and oysters.
That Great Scott
Great experience overall. The host was odd to put it politely. When we came in he told us our options were at the chef's table or upstairs. When we said upstairs he said he had tables but they had reservations for the tables. When we sat down we received a lunch menu from the same host. But then after we placed an order for an appetizer he brought us dinner menus and told us they stop serving lunch at 5pm. We sat down at 4:45 ish. We were left confused by what menu was ok to order from. Our waiter (who was amazing), cleared things up by telling us to order whatever we would like and it would be made for us. Once we got past all of that it was a great experience.
Shane Spruiell
We always eat here when we are in town. We also make sure we eat at the chefs table.
Lisa Bee
Every visit to this impeccable restaurant is better than the last. The bread pudding is the best in the city. Port of Call has nothing on this Burger-hands down, nothing can compare. The oyster pie is to die for. And the Court Bouillon is the most stunning presentation of any dish in New Orleans-forget flambé, sparkling candles, etc. You can tell every ingredient matters, this is a foodies restaurant-a feast for all senses.
derrick walters
Great food and service. Will be back again on our next New Orleans trip!!
Krista Petkov
Good cocktails, average food, awkward service.
Jake Moran
We had a party of 19 people and Jobe was our waiter. Jobe and all the staff were rockstars, excellent venue, great menu the sugarcane seared duck was so good, the oyster BLT was excellent we had an fantastic time. Intimate atmosphere, 80s music was awesome great bartenders all around fantastic place.
keendog91
This is by far the best restaurant in New Orleans. All the food was extraordinarily delicious. If in town, don’t miss Gris Gris and chef Eric Cook and is phenomenal staff.
Arturo Peal
Great food, yummy drinks, beautiful uptown location. Gris Gris has become a favorite for the deliciousness available. My partner is from NOLA, when she says “the gumbo is like my aunties” and “the soft shelled crab is like my momma’s” I know that’s high praise.
Shruti Sharma
Loved everything that we had.
Brad Albin
Me: Chicken & Sausage Gumbo,
Chicken Gizzard Grillades, Shrimp & Grits
Her (Vegetarian): Chef prepared fresh vegetables Served over a bed of Grits
Both: Bread Pudding
Unequivocally the BEST meal I’ve had in New Orleans! ...and we’ve eaten at ALL of the top ($$$-$$$$) joints in town. HOWEVER, to take nothing away from all the other amazing restaurants in New Orleans, they’re all just as good as you’ve read, it’s just that Gris Gris ($$) is that much better! Nothing we ate was even “borderline,” each item upon first taste was, “You’ve got to be f’ing kidding me,”-great! Do yourself a favor, go mid-afternoon when it’s a little slower and sit at the Kitchen bar. Thanks Cook
Eckener Schule
A great experience! Staff was very friendly even though I was quite late for dinner. I had a delicious cup of Gumbo as an appetizer and really enjoyed the shrimp & gris-gris grits on the balcony with what an atmosphere.. . try a cocktail for dessert 👍 …
Clarence MooreJr
The pot roast over toast is filling. The fish is to die for
David Johnson
This place was recommended to me by a local tour guide who goes by the name "Loki" through the company 2 Chicks. He stated that as an 8th generation local of New Orleans, hes spent more money at this place in 6 weeks than most other places he knows. I had the pork belly & watermelon ($9) and a cup of gumbo (6) and was generally staggered by how good it was. I also enjoyed 2 vastly different cocktails and was equally pleased by their fair price and quality craftsmanship. My only problem was that I didnt have more space in my stomach to try more of the menu. I will be back as soon as I am able. Go to this place.
Ava Monnet
They DON'T have bottomless mimosas buuuuuttt....if you're not a lush (such as myself) it's absolutely worth it. The food is FANTASTIC and the upstairs bartender were amazing!
Dana Koger
Spectacular dining experience. Chef Eric Cook was a blast to watch and talk to at the chefs tabld. Food was superb. Loved the gizzard!! Great spot to entertain clients or have a nice dinner with friends. Upstairs patio and bar were rocking too!

The best pork chop I have eaten, and the whole Red Fish is also highly recommended. Great Atmosphere and friendly staff. Enjoyed engaging with the owner/chef, it was such a pleasure.
Liz Skokan
The food, staff, decor, and drinks were perfection. Perfect place to have a last vacation meal.

What a find! Gris-Gris is a fantastic space serving exceptionally good food in the mid-priced range. The downstairs up-at-the-counter chef's table style is a fun experience. Attentive, friendly staff and a great menu ranging from gumbo, of course, to oyster BLT (had this for appetizer... out of this world combination of fried oysters, salty BBQ pork belly and tomato jam - crispy, sweet, salty and sour all rolled into one dish. Perfect!), down to Mom's Chicken Dumplings (supposedly the head chef's mom's secret recipe served up to kids in the area for years... such a hearty broth, just-right dumplings and generous chunks of pulled chicken. A must-try.). I had the double cut pork chop, cast iron seared with Creole spices, southern greens, smothered new potatoes and blueberry pork jus. The dish is worth it just for the damn potatoes... sooooo good. But the pork was one of the most perfectly cooked pieces of pork I've ever had. And that blueberry jus? OMG, topped the dish off perfectly.
I can't recommend this joint more highly. It'll certainly be on my list for a re-visit the next time I'm in NOLA. They tell me the chicken gizzard grillades is exceptional.

This place is awesome. We had several small plates as well as the shrimp and grits, and absolutely everything was good. I really liked their take on chicken gizzards as well as the fried green tomatoes.

The meal itself was great but the staff, especially the kitchen staff, made the restaurant a can't miss location for the city. I would highly recommend sitting downstairs at the bar that surrounds the kitchen and enjoy your meal while interacting with the staff.

Hands down one of the best restaurants if not the very best restaurant in New Orleans; this includes atmosphere, food, and services.
Jameka Powell
The shrimp and grits are bomb. The gumbo not so much. The restaurant is a vibe and the decor is awesome. Nice place to have a private party or dinner.

Not gon a lie... I felt a little jaded when they put my girlfriend and i in the back corner away from most after our day trip to southern decadence... But? Our server did an amazing job in providing a great service and even let us hang out a bit when we found out that our flight was cancelled and had to begin making last minute accommodations for that night. Oh, and the food was fantastic too lol. 10/10 on everything.

My cousin and I ventured to the new Gris-Gris restaurant for lunch even though it was only in its 8th day of operation. We were delighted to discover that it was already running like clock work!!!
We decided to dine downstairs at the seating which surrounds the open kitchen where the meals are prepared so you can watch and interact with Chef Eric Cook and his cheerful staff while they prepared our order and those of other diners. Everyone in the kitchen was friendly and told us about the meals they we making. If we saw something new being prepared we could and did ask questions about the process.
But on to the food. We had had a big breakfast so we just ordered a Caesar salad to split and the fried green tomatoes with shrimp and a delicious sauce for each of us. It was delicious from the first bite to the regrettable last one. We watch the prep of the compressed watermelon for the pork belly salad and then learned from Chef Cook the reason that he uses basil instead of lettuce on his modified BLT that he named the BBT. You will have to ask him when you go there.
Toward the end, we saw a new peach cobbler dessert being invented right before our eyes and got a taste which was to die for and a great way to end a perfect lunch.
Needless to say , I have had many incredible meals in my 71 years as a native of New Orleans and I highly recommend this new restaurant.

Me and my boys caught fresh redfish yesterday and reserved seats at the kitchen bar to watch Chef Eric, do absolute magic. He was friendly and courteous. The bread pudding was the best we’ve had since we got in New Orleans. Not to far from New Orleans center on Magazine.
Mary DeCoursey
The staff was wonderful. The food was amazing!
Michael Rizzo
Incredible new restaurant on lower Magazine. Sit at the counter downstairs and watch Chef Eric Cook run the kitchen with passion and precision. Lunch and Dinner, both fantastic. Fantastic gumbo, red fish, oyster and pork belly BLT. Spot on, great addition to the garden district.
Cecilia Tiscornia
Had an amazing dinner here, the gumbo and shrimp & grits were both delicious. Highly recommend!

We didn't enjoy our dining experience here. When we made reservations, we were told it was outside only and it was for a 'courtyard'. In reality, it was pretty much just a street corner, and there were diners at tables inside, which was disappointing because it was super hot outside. The food was just ok. It left us unsatisfied. We won't be back.

The shrimp and grits were absolute perfection. The grits were the standard against which all grits shall henceforth be measured. The gumbo was rich and thick and simply swimming in the goodness of what started as a great roux. Go on Monday for some great red beans. Go hungry, leave happy and walk somewhere, this ain't light fare, but it satisfies!!!

Unbelievable. You can eat at older, more expensive restaurants and receive lesser quality or you can heed my advice and have your mind blown by the dishes here! "My Mother's Chicken and Dumplings", pork chop, and the pork belly+watermelon are all must tries. The entire menu is phenomenal!

You always see places as you pass by, and then you stop and find very tasty morsels. We started out with fried green tomatoes topped with smoky shrimp and a delectable brown sauce. Yummy^3 barely covers the taste of the dish. I then wandered into a BB&T that came with a side of fries. The Bacon Basil and Tomato is just what you would need to get your sandwich craving in order. The fries were crispy and tasty. I drank mostly water but the crying eagle Louisiana lager called to me at the end to top off this meal. Can't wait to geaux back and get my Gris-Gris feedbag on again.

I originally went to the restaurant at the WWll Museum (The American Sector) where I had eaten in 9/16 particularly for a dish called (Oyster BLT). It was no longer on the menu. When I inquired of Mgmt (Juan Rodriguez) why, I was told, that the dish was a original creation of a former Chef Eric Cook who had left and opened his own restaurant, "Gris Gris", located on Magazine Street. Today my wife and I located the restaurant and went there for lunch. The Gumbo, Oyster BLT, Chicken Gizzards and Grits and Chicken and Dumplings were EXCELLENT. The parking was a challange: but, worth the effort. The Staff were all very cordial, accommodating and efficient. The bar was appropriately stocked. I am very happy I invested the effort to track Chef down from a previous experience and will definitely visit again.

Passed by a Monday afternoon and luckily a choice as to where we wanted to sit. As much as I would’ve liked to have seated at the kitchen bar, we decided to enjoy the sun outside. Amazing and attentive staff, classic but inventive menu, and great drinks. Would love to come back and get deeper in the menu.

Great food, great service!

Loved Gris Gris, a new music visit on our
NOLA list.
Food was amazing! Staff were very welcoming.
Jason Joachim
My wife and I just ate there for lunch. The only let down we had was we couldn't eat more.
The gumbo is out of this world. I have sampled over 30 different gumbo's here in Nola alone. Believe me!
I am a firm believer in there is something more than just delicious food that makes a good resturaunt. The owner Eric or "Cook" as his friends call him (and he will tell you to call him that) is truelly the secret ingredient to this place. Him and his staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. I felt like I was eating at his house. A remarkable host and an even better Chef. I would highly recommend this place and if you have a chance, shake Eric's hand. It is not everyday you meet a rockstar this down to earth!
Enjoyed the stories and appreciate you sharing them with us Eric! We will see you soon.

Atmosphere was amazing. Decorated beautifully. Staff was pleasant and friendly. The food was the best we have had yet in New Orleans. A must visit, and we found it accidentally.
Lendy Dunaway
We had the duck, chicken and dumplings and the shrimp with fried green tomatoes. Everything was excellent. It was our favorite meal while we were in town for Jazz Fest.
Earnest Carter
Obsessed with Gris Gris! Great location, delicious good, and wonderful staff.
When it comes to a restaurant it can always be a hit or miss with its food selections, however the best thing about Gris Gris is that they don't have an extensive menu which thus allows them to put all their expertise & love in to producing quality dishes.
A+

I went to another high end steak house the night before my visit to gris-gris. Was very let down but Eric Cook you made my time at your restaurant memorable. From the staff to the rib eye and not to mention the bread pudding . It was a very good desert and meal definately be nack
Yolonda Alexander
The food was great. I had the shrimp and grits. My husband had the porkchop and my son had the duck. However, the person that "greeted" is at the door was not polite at all.
Dan Capps
We went there for Sunday Brunch. I had the Open Faced Pot Roast and it was magic in my mouth!
At first, I didn't think that the toast, mashed potatoes and debris with gravy would work but it did.I recommend this highly!!
Abhijeet
Probably the best food I have eaten in New Orleans. Loved it. And great service too.
Whitney Lee
The shrimp and grits are bomb! The tomato appetizer with shrimp is ok. Its completely cold and not what I was expecting. The menu nor the waiter let you know that it's a cold dish. Now for dessert......OMG THE PECAN PIE IS SOOOOOO DELICIOUS!!!!!!!
Shane David Smith
Great food and drinks. Very friendly staff.
Count Eric C Hughes
A truly fantastic meal in a great setting. Chef Cook and his staff took great care in ensuring all of our meals were exquisite and delicious. A must-visit in a city of excellent food.

It's good but pretty average. Ran out of one of their signature cocktails. Not sure how you let that happen, but the food was ok.
Eric Daniels
Everything was amazing, food was perfect, service was perfect, Bella was our server, and we will be back to enjoy Gris-Gris again!
Jason Starrett
Great atmosphere with delicious food and a friendly staff. Terrific drink options as well. The upstairs bar and patio is a perfect spot for a quick drink and a bite.

Beautiful balcony, friendly staff and wonderful food.

Great staff and really tasty food! The duck and the shrimp grits 👌 …

It takes moxie and confidence to open a southern/traditional New Orleanian spot in the heart of New Orleans. Moderately priced, exceedingly delicious and a beautiful open kitchen set the standard for a casual yet elegant dining experience. Well done and bravo!
Dwayne Crawford
So. Damn. Good. I truly enjoyed everything I had. From the incredible wings that I started with, to the burger I had for my entree and even dessert! Absolutely primo! Great staff, excellent service and a hands on proprietor. I will be back.
