Reviews of Dong Phuong Bakery & Restaurant

I am no authority on Vietnamese food but this restaurant was delicious. We tried a few different pho’s and all were so good. Depth of flavor in the broth was really good. We also got bakery items that you can eat in the restaurant and everything was delicious.

It is worth the wait!! Either pre-order early or stand in line for a few hours. It is hands down, without a doubt, guarantee, the BEST and most flavorful delicious King Cake made! Loved the moistness of the layered pastry filled with cream cheese or pecan cream cheese. The best icing, not too sweet. Just darn good. Believe me. Worth every penny and worth standing in line. Don't miss out on these!
Amanda Whyatt
Came for the king cake, got breakfast and pork buns while we were there. Affordable prices and absolutely delicious food. Service was super expedited, efficient and fast. Highly recommend for snack, a meal, or king cake!

Amazing banh mis that are prepared to order!!
Wait time: None for us! They are only allowing less than 10 people into the bakery at a time because it’s a small space and it’s probably something that they implemented since the pandemic.
Ordered:
Pork Banh Mi - French Bread was soft but slightly crisp. Pork was sliced thin with plenty of flavor. Also, the sandwich was huge and was just $6! They’d charge $10 for this where I’m from! They make the banh mi to order and there’s a “build your own option.”
Steamed pork bun - Soft, fluffy! The inside had pork, chopped shrimp, sausage and egg. I’ve never had a Vietnamese pork bun before and it was good! I’m my ethnicity we make steam pork buns but without shrimp and different seasoning.
Vietnamese coffee (from restaurant) - STRONG! But delicious. Tip: let the ice melt before you drink it.
Vietnamese Coffee flavored jello - yum! Not too sweet and tasted like Vietnamese coffee!
Vibe: You know it’s good if all the workers are Vietnamese and their main clientele are Vietnamese.
Parking: Plenty of free parking in an open lot.
Would I return?: YES. I would’ve never stopped here if I wasn’t recommended by a friend. It’s kind of out of the way of the hussle and bussle of the French Quarters, but definitely worth it if you like Vietnamese bakery goods! Everything there is good, but the banh mi is the star of the show. I also want to go back and try the restaurant that is attached to the bakery.

My all time best Vietnamese restaurant. Banh mi is incredible and the noodle soup was mind blowing. The king cake was worth waiting in line also.
Curtis Martz
Well established commercial bakery, retail bakery, and lunch restaurant all together. Wonderful food across all 3. Dined in at the restaurant, and got banh mi's, and bread to go at the bakery. This place isint in the best neighborhood, but don't let that stop you from visiting. They're only open until 3, so it's definitely a daylight hours, lunch only option. The BBQ pork and rice dish was totally amazing. Gigantic portions with a very very modest price. The value here is amazing. Clear soup was good as well. Ordered an ice coffee and it was just the thing I needed to keep me awake after eating such a huge meal.

One of the best places to stop in to eat while in New Orleans. One side is a restaurant and next door is a french/vietnamese bakery. The portions at the restaurant was large and omg with all the different options on the bakery side. Unfortunately, they sold out of their mardi gras king cake which has been voted one of the best of its kind.

Best king cake period and for $28 bucks each👍you gotta get there between 8-10a or it’s all gone and the limit is 3 king cakes per person. I would recommend to order online on the same day and then picking it up. My favorite is crème cheese 😊
Michael Stricklin
My husband, children, and I just ate the MOST AMAZING meal at the restaurant, and then we indulged with pistolettes and bakery items from the adjacent bakery. We are from Mobile, but we spend approximately 1/3 to half of our time in New Orleans for business, and this was one of the best meals we have eaten in New Orleans. The Pho is to die for, and their Grilled Pork is something to savor every bite of. Get a piece of cheesecake. It was so delicious that we ate the first piece in the car, and my husband went back inside and bought another piece for us to take home. The staff are warm, welcoming, and patient! Will be back soon. If not tomorrow!
lili mercado
Finally came here on the way to the airport for the Banh Mi and pate chaud at 8am, and it did not disappoint. The service was fast and great price point. This is a place I will definitely be coming to again everytime I come to New Orleans.
Danielle R
King Cake is phenomenal!!! 10/10!!
Pro-tip: We pre-ordered online on January 1st for January 6th pickup which was amazing as the line for walk up orders was out onto the street and hours long!
Vinna Khamsouk
What a gem! Banh mi was delicious and I got crawfish pie which was so yummy. Spicy but so tasty!
Cherie Pizzuto
This was my first time having lunch here. It was fresh and delicious. I will absolutely go back with my other children. Another great hidden gem in New Orleans. We have the best of all cultures in this wonderful melting pot of a city. ❤
Drew Stewart
The best king cake I’ve had to date period. I got the cinnamon flavor and it was like the best cinnamon roll with a fluffy light but sweet icing. They are a good price and nice size. Definitely recommend it!
D Bazanac
Baked items were way too sweet. The sandwich was good. The bread was nice and crunchy. Opening at 8 means employees start showing up at 8, pre-orders are filled and other customers may get something by 8:30. Just post opening at 8:30...
Rosie Ng
I started going to their store from 2010, even after I moved to a different state, I have never disappointed with their service even once. I’m so proud to be one of their fans. They are getting better and better and I love their new content with logo. They even do national shipping now, I could have my banh mi ship over whenever I miss them. Strongly recommend everyone to have taste of New Orleans’s signature.
andrea clark
The hamburger buns and the French bread. I can’t describe how ethereal the hamburger buns are. Worth the trip. The cinnamon king cake and the pecan king cake are my favorite of the six flavors only because I’m not crazy about filled king cakes.
laura miranda (Queens of Clean, Inc)
What a cool place. Lines were long ( always means good food)
but moved quickly:) Can't wait to try our kings cake! The pork and onion meat pie was AMAZING
Joel Spillman
Incredible Bakery items! Meat and dessert pies are probably better than any that you have experienced before! Breads are equally delicious. Flakey pastries are the finest French influenced
rivals of any, so called, "French" bakeries.
John Li
Out of the way drive for NOLA tourists, but go if you have a car. Very good Vietanmese food and bakery. Big props for having a number of traditional noodle soups with glass noodles, but other dry noodle dishes seemed like a melange of American Chinese flavors and ingredients (broccoli and cabbage strips?). On the bakery side, the big bun (white steamed breading) was near world class, and the crayfish empanada-like pastry was also very good.
Sidney Ashton
I highly recommend the coconut king cake. It doesn't have an overwhelming yeasty flavor that some store bought cakes have. The icing is the best hands down.
Thomas Krajewski
The hype is worth it. The sandwiches here are out of sight and the price can not be beat. The baked goods and pies they have are also very good (if you've ever had their king cake this is no news to you).
The location is a bit off the beaten path but I will make the trip from downtown again for certain to enjoy their offerings
Raquel Marcelle
THE BEST KING CAKES I've ever had!!!I'm from New Orleans and I've tried most King Cakes but Dong Phuong cakes are unique and in a class of their own!! I enjoy all their flavors but Almond and Pecan are my favorite!!
Greg Russell
Bahn Mi sammies, delicious! Bread is perfect for the sandwich and you can buy extra. Also their coconut macaroons are great they have small grated coconut which I prefer. Tender pop into your mouth. They also have a nice assortment of meat pies and also standard pies like whole strawberry and cheesecake. Go get one of their Bahn Mi sammies. You wont be disappointed
Greg Dieter
Stopping by with my partner's family, who has been going for years. Such a cute bakery with so many different Viet pastries and pies and banh mi. They also have a restaurant area, but I just stopped into the bakery. Banh mi was so fresh, service was cheerful, the pate chaud (I don't know the proper accents 😬) was full of hearty spices that warm you know matter what. I would be happy to come here again when I get the chance!
Terron Cole
You can't go wrong here. Really good food. You will find many people eating in their parked cars and trucks. It's really that good, the food won't even make it home.
Taryn Alexandros
I have heard so many great things about the place and of course I have tried their king cakes. I happened to be in the area and convinced friends to stop for lunch. Incredibly cheap, too cheap almost. Wonderfully delicious. Get a bahn mi you won't be disappointed. Wish there was a closer location to where I live though.
Brian F. Nastali
Coming from the Frog Town area of Saint Paul Minnesota, I am so happy to have such a great Vietnamese community here too! Whether the bakery or the restaurant, you can't go wrong... definitely makes me long to go back to Vietnam soon and spend a few more months there.
Greg Woo
Pretty good food at the bakery. Was told king cakes sold out between 8-10am. There was a restaurant and bakery section. Restaurant was so slow that we got up and ordered bahn mi. The sandwiches were great. Baked goods were fresh and tasty.
Doug W
I got the vermicelli with pork and shrimp, while wife got the rice with beef and pork-skin. Both meals were very good, and we plan to return. The bakery is next to the restaurant, and the have a wonderful selection
May Guo
The cinnamon king cake is really delicious! It's not too sweet. I've had lots of king cake before, but this one is different!
Lisa Ingegniero
Came across their king cake in Chalmette last year and I just had to have one again this carnival season. Still the same--crispy on the outside, light and flaky on the inside, icing feels as light as whipped cream, cream cheese is everywhere. I love this king cake. I can't stop eating it!
K Kirsch
This place makes me want to go back to Vietnam immediately. Authentic, incredible food with all the flavors and textures you want in Vietnamese cuisine. Banh Mi was delicious, but I’m giving all my taste buds over to the Bun Thit Nuong. It was incredible. We sat outside because we brought our pup with us, and let me just say that is prime seating because your salivary glands will enjoy the aroma of the fresh baked breads wafting from the kitchen. This place is legit.
Elizabeth Cao
I've been visiting this place ever since I was a little girl. The atmosphere, customer service and the quality of the food has been 100/10 every time I come. The Bun Bo Hue was phenomenal as always but..... the tofu tasted like it was put in the soup last minute. I highly recommend the cook to let the tofu sit in the broth for a good while so it can up all the goodness and have some flavor. Other than that the broth was HEAVEN. I think it was the best Bun Bo Hue I had in a good while.
While I was in the restaurant, I noticed that the bakery only let 5 people in at a time due to COVID-19 precautions. That was pretty smart of them because from what I can remember, it would be so packed in that small space due to everyone trying to order Banh Mi for their family or even getting bread alone. I really hope they keep that going because you can actually walk around and look at what they have on display and what's available.
If you're looking for a place to eat for lunch in New Orleans, this is the go to spot. Me and my family always come here when we're in the city.
Özgür Öge
It was pretty good overall, fast service, good food. Bakery is also pretty tasty and with nice variety.
Neal Wilkinson
Have one Banh mi from here and you will forget all other sandwiches. I love the #16 and if you buy 10 you get one free. I dig spicy so I always get the jalapeños but feel free to skip it if you don’t. My kid love the bread which is SO cheap. Seriously this is my favorite food on the planet.
Gloria Cheng
Tip for tourists: you will need a car to get there and you should think about reserving a ride to get back. Great prices. Awesome Banh Mi with fresh bread baked in house. Pho soup base was flavorful. Couldn’t stop eating. Service was a bit slow.
adelaide francois
My food was delicious. They also have tapioca teas. Prices very reasonable.
Tayler Jones
Absolutely delicious! I drove thirty minutes during Mardi Gras season to arrive just as the shop opened up to get one of their famous king cakes. Believe those who say that they best around, because they are awesome! The dough melts in your mouth and the price cannot be beat. I also tried one of their vegetarian bahn mi and it was the best I have ever had. Never again will I settle for a dry, mediocre bahn mi. I'll happily revisit Dong Phuong for the quality food they provide.
Moe Keo
The bahn mi are good 👍 I recommend getting the grilled pork. The dessert are average . I was happy that this place practice COVID protocol. …
Jennifer Cashman
This is truly the only place worth going to for a king cake. Just pre-order because the secret is out and you cant just walk in any time and expect to get one anymore 🥺
Reuben De Almeida
Can't go wrong for $4 bahn ni!! I had the viet pork, viet sausage, and meatball bahn mi, all excellent, but I liked the viet sausage the most. Brisket Pho was really good too. The mung bean desert was good. The banh mi part is actually a separate restaurant, and if you want to sit and eat at the restaurant, you have to order something from the dine-in section. Although, the waiter said that if it isn't busy, you can have a seat at the restaurant to enjoy your banh mi.
Phuong Ngo
Born and raised in Vietnam, I grew up eating a lot of banh mi. And I have eaten good banh mi in other bakeries in the US too. But I have to say this is by far the best banh mi I have had in my entire life (so far lol). I had one week in NOLA but didn't rent a car, so I took a bus for one hour from French Quarter to get there (out of curiosity after reading rave reviews online). Totally worth it.
p/s: I also ordered pâté chaud and pia cakes, they're decent but not as memorable.
Justin Nguyen
Food was excellent!! Last time I went which was like a week or two ago, I got some Banh Mi and Pho along with some of their savory snacks. I definitely recommend getting the Pate Chaud and Crawfish Pie. Both were DELICIOUS!! The Banh Mi and Pho were AMAZING too. I highly recommend trying this place if you are visiting the area.
Chris Flanigan
The food was amazing. We loved it. The serving sizes were huge, too much for both of us. What a problem, eh? If you enjoy Vietnamese food, I'd say this is a must-visit.
I almost forgot, the bubble teas are fantastic as well!
Usalinh Phung
This place has the best banh mi sandwiches around! They are usually busy so get here early before the crowd shows up. Tried their Korean short ribs and pork skin rice dish. The flavoring on the short ribs had more of a Vietnamese flavor to it then the normal kbbq I've had. However, the dish was delicious and I would definitely get it again.
Douglas Tate
The king cake is pretty darn good. Worth a 2 hour wait....maybe. If you like King Cake....you have to get one if these. Top 5 for sure.
J P
Holy F****ing Moly!!! I had their cream cheese king cake today for the first time and my mind is 🤯🤯🤯 I grew up in New Orleans and ate hundreds of king cakes, including all the big hitters, and this king cake trumps them all. I live in another state now so a very kind friend shipped one out to me and it was devoured. My husband was also surprised as he doesn’t like king cakes (he’s from Jersey so 🙄) but he loved this and said it was like eating the most delicious cinnamon roll, strudel, croissant all mixed into one. I’m thinking that I need to fly down there just to pick up these heavenly king cakes. It’s no wonder DP received the James Beard award. Yeah, it’s that good! ⚜️❤️⚜️❤️⚜️

First time having king cake and it was amazing! We got some banh mi sandwiches to go as we headed back to Atlanta and I wished I had ordered more. We took home some of the bread they use for the banh mi sandwiches and ate a few loafs of bread in the car. Stellar cakes, amazing sandwiches and great bread.
Elen Carpenter
Great flavored cakes, even though slightly non traditional (not the typical circle shape but solid). I was lucky enough to enjoy both the cinnamon and cream cheese. I think they were great but honestly I've had better, more traditional King cakes. I think the fame lies in the mystique of when, where, and how many will be delivered at any particular place. It's more like a fabulous hide and seek mystery....but with a delicious outcome.
Dylan Godwin
So the bakery and sandwiches are excellent. But if the restaurant is going to have different hours than the ones posted online... They really need to be updated. We drive 45 mins out of our way for the restaurant to be closed.
Olivia
Best king cake I’ve ever tasted. Wished they would open a shop in lafayette
kel tait
8 countries and 26 states and this is the best bahn mi sandwich ive had in 12yrs.
Chastity W
Love the bakery. Love the bakery. Love the bakery. Omg, so good. Everything is made there too, which makes it even better. The mooncakes and the meat pies are my favorite.
Cristina Cheramie
Delicious! We went in for a late lunch. I had the grilled pork with rice and vegetables husband had beef pho and we had fresh spring rolls. The food came out quickly and was so good we jumped in with no pictures taken. We will definitely be back.
Doug Joubert
Friendly people, incredible baked goods. Their almond cinnamon roll is incredible, and their King Cakes are renowned.
Andy Ye
Great pho and the SPRING ROLL is to die for. My only complaint is that the smoothies/teas with boba are around 6-7$.
Barbara Selman
Highly rated and for the right reason!
Very friendly service! Delivery on site
The Trojan Prince
I searched for a less tourist/ more local bakery in New Orleans, and guess what I found it! No long lines just New Orleans people coming to get their favorites ❤️😁 …
Michael Bromund
This is a change-your-life kind of place. If you're coming to New Orleans for a period of time longer than a day, you should buy in bulk and enjoy their food every day. Great vegetarian options and ordering through their website was very easy. Their wonderful people who make this delicious food are why New Orleans has its reputation as a great city for foodies.
Kay Lee
The bakery doesn't look attractive but the products are heavenly!
mardi claw
This is an institution of baked goodness and stellar food. Bahn mi heaven. Very affordable. For bread? This is the best. Light airy, crispy outside, delicious inside. Meat pies, char soup, bahn mi, desserts, croissants, baked goodness.
April Lee Uzarski
Ordered a king cake to ship to NYC and it was the best decision I have made in 2021 so far. Hands down the best king cake I have ever had!
Elliot AC
Might be the best restaurant in New Orleans. A local classic thats too far for tourist
Josh Y
Bakery is small, but $3.25 banh mi can't be beat. Love it. Didn't go to restaurant.
Ann Beck
Went to bakery and got food items from there. Bread fresh as usual delicious
Chelsea Boyle
Best king cakes in the city. Seems they upped their game on the fillings and frosting this year. I had no idea their king cakes could get better! Bahn mis are great with lots of vegetarian options, including Impossible bulgogi and Vietnamese sausage! So tasty, you won’t even miss the meat.
momo
The high star reviews are accurate for this establishment. We stopped in to try pickup some pate so and decided to dine in. I ordered the Mi Hoang Thanh. I was expecting it to be average as I've not had any that was as consistent or reminded me of Vietnam. Dong Phuong did it right. The cha ca is homemade along with the wontons. There are generous amounts of meat and noodles for a regular size portion. This is the best tasting Mi Hoang Thanh ever!
Travis Shelton
Best BBQ Spare ribs in NOLA! Try the macaroons in the bakery as well!!
Natalie Scott
Picked up some banh mi(Chinese BBQ pork) amazing! The crawfish and meat pies were also delicious. The prices are unbeatable. Unfortunately I was not able to get a king cake, but next time!
Sarah E
The king cake is fantastic and the pickup process was quick and easy, you don't have to get out of your car.
Never Cheddar Tear
I think something most people don’t realize is this is two different businesses - the bakery (with bahn mi) and a restaurant. You cannot order a bahn mi in the restaurant, only in the bakery.
The restaurant - tried the pho and Vietnamese coffee. Both were excellent. They allowed me to go next door to order a bahn mi and eat in the restaurant while the lady had her pho. Pho was excellent. They were out of spring rolls. I would love to return to try the bun bo hue.
The bakery - very small and very busy. The pork bahn mi was very good and the vegetables were fresh. Also had a steamed bun with pork and egg that was excellent. Took some pastries for the road. I wish they had something similar to their king cakes to order or made them available a little sooner (I have never tried one but it has long been on my list). 3 other people asked about getting one, but they were unavailable (12/31). Their bags of baguette seemed to be very popular.
Christy Mccullough (ineedbout3fitty)
So good!! Got a cake that was so beautiful and delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful
Casey Welborn
Amazing and beautiful bakery and restaurant with lovely staff. Clean, quick, and affordable! They have fresh pistolettes including just the buns for $1.50 for 6! Anything off the menu will be sure to please so don't hesitate to try something you haven't before
Erin Keefer
The BEST kind cake I’ve ever had in my LIFE.
lamjr01
Best King Cake. Picked up a lunch sandwich and dessert.
Mike Stoller
Bahn Mi sandwiches and Bao were really good and also affordable. My favorites are the Chinese sausage Bahn Mi and crawfish pie.
Adam T.
Good place, haven't tried any items from the restaurant but the bakery is on point. The sandwiches are good, not too expensive and in and out really quick.
Victor Paz
One work: Excellent. The quality and freshness of the sandwiches and bakery items cannot he beat, saying nothing of the taste!
J Fennell
My friend brought me here.
Bahn Mi puts Subway to shame.
Lolet
The food, and restaurant are great. My first Pho and I'm hooked.
No complaints about the service that was a bit slow because of several pick-up orders and pandemic staff limits. They are all very kind and accommodating. I'd go back in a minute. Didn't even mention the great bakery attached.
Tim Trepagnier
Cant say enough about this New Orleans culinary staple. Go take a walk at Bayou Sauvage, then stop by here for lunch. Thanks for all the years of wonderful food!
Name
Amazing breads that can't be beat in this city. There best item is of course their king cake, I love the frosting, the cream cheese is my favorite in the city. I also enjoy the blueberry kingcakes and the strawberry kingcakes. If king cake isn't in season there cinnamon rolls are basically the king cakes without the frosting and are absolutely superb top notch. They also seel really great sandwiches and other food baked goods like their strawberry short cakes.
Kevin Lam
If you're looking for authentic Vietnamese cuisine, this is THE spot. World famous for their King Cakes. If you want the best bread in the world, their French bread they use for Banh Mi is TO DIE FOR.
Cathy Thrift
Bread for the sandwiches is crispy on the outside yet very light. Had the pork sandwich. Delicious. Wish menu showed or told what all was in the sandwiches. Could have done without the jalapenos. Service was great.
Anna Schoenfeld
This is by far the best Vietnamese bakery and restaurant around.
Mark Beiler
The food in this place is amazing. We went to an upscale restaurant in a gentrified neighborhood and paid at least twice as much for food that's wasn't half as good. I'm looking forward to my next visit.
Cindy Plauche
Their king cakes are so good I was in line 3 hours before the bakery opened. Their French bread is really worth the wait.
Anna Lellelid
Delicious banh mi and bao and king cakes and and and and!!!!
Loc Ho
One of the best viet restaurants ive eaten at!!! Delicious food and bakery items
Vanessa Loza
OMG I love this place. Must go to everytime im in town.
Shirley Wang
This was easily one of my favorite restaurants I went to while down in NOLA for the week. I absolutely loved the bahn mi (we got the #4 Chinese roasted pork), maybe even more than the ones in Chinatown NY, and that's saying a lot!! It was so flavorful and their homemade sauce was great.
As for the restaurant side, it was just as good. I ordered the hu tieu dai hoac mi (meat and seafood in a pork broth) with transparent noodles. It was packed with flavor and wasn't too salty. Service was slow, but it was holiday season and the place was absolutely packed, bakery side included.
If you're in the area and want some soup or a great bahn mi, I highly recommend coming here and giving it a try.

These folks have the most wonderful pistolettes and a host of fine pastries.
If you can EVER find a King Cake from here, I've heard they are the best. I've not been able to yet, but I've only been looking for a year! Remember to order one early in the Carnival season so you can see if it's to your tastes.
They have wonderful sandwiches, banh mi is the Viet name, if I recall correctly. AND there is an attached restaurant I've never had to time to stop at.
It is on the edges of the city on Chef Menteur Highway, so it's a trip from anywhere but New Orleans East. Worth it. Just be prepared to buy lots and freeze some... IF you can stop eating it all right then and there!
J Ed
Hands down the best king cake!! Drove nearly an hour to pick ours up, but it was worth every mile! They have great bread, other pastries, and the sandwiches are great too! Get a #4.... Great pork and a load of fresh veggies with a special sauce! We haven't found much we didn't like here. The prices can't be beat either!

ORDER ONLINE FOR KING CAKE !!!!

Absolutely the best king cake I have ever had, and, I dare say, in New Orleans. It's unique fluffy cream cheese frosting is amazing! The cake is moist and delicious. If you don't give this bakery a try, you will be missing an awesome experience.
Sophia
This place has been here forever, and still bringing the community great food and service. Tasty and fresh banh mis as well as bakery items that you should definitely stop by to try.
Kenneth Queen
We love this place. Best bread in town, we drive 25+ miles just to buy the bread & pastries. They make great sandwiches too. For dining in, the restaurant next door is well worth the visit. Fair prices and fairly quick service, attentive and friendly staff.
sheshe berdos
My favorite place for french bread.
IT IS THE BEST.... perfect texture, perfect taste, just simply amazing! Pho is also excellent!!! It's a MUST to let your taste buds experience!
Maria Rossi
Bakery is operating as normal with limited capacity. You can still order bahn mi sandwiches inside, pay at the counter, and they'll bring it out to you when ready. (You can also order larger quantities online with curbside pick up.) Love this place. Delicious fresh bread every time I visit.
Michelle mac FnaF cricdrs
Worth the drive a little over 10minutes from Gentilly but best Vietnamese & Bakery. By far best quantity & prices
Wei-Yun Mak
Bakery looks like a highway pit stop with loads of parking. It's certainly an excellent price for banh mi $5.50 inc. tax. Cold cuts was very generous with lots of meat layers and also quality vegetables, pickles.
Nem nuong was also very generous and deliciously seasoned, and would get that one next time.
Unfortunately though the bread was too soft with the outside having no crunch/crackle to it. Maybe it was a bad batch, too old or that's just the way it's done here.
They also sell pate chaud $2.50 which uses a wet char siu type filling rather than the dense pork patty usually.
There is also a variety of che which I didn't try.
(They also ran out of bread/banh mi by about 1pm today if you are planning on coming late).
Carolyn McCue
Had their wonderful noodle bowl with shrimp a d my daughter had same but with pork. Both were delicious. Bought cream puffs in bakery. They were wonderful. Please go and support local business.
Michael Johns
This was my first time here. I was picking up some sandwiches for a friend and got some for myself. Awesome bread too!
Nick Boullard
Having moved out of NOLA in 2020, I finally ordered a couple king cakes to be mailed to me. UPS somehow messed up my delivery address and told me that I would be getting my shipment 5 days late. I contanted Dong Phuong and they sent me a replacement order for free. It arrived on time, days before the original shipment.
Aaron Russell
Got an amazing 9am breakfast bowl of pho plus banh mi and pastries to go on the way out of town. One of the best meals of our visit.
brittany ellis
The best king cake in all of Louisiana!

Went for King cakes. Got there right before 7 and was second in line. Once they opened at 8, I was back in the car by 8:03. King cakes are so good. I have eaten at the restaurant and bought from the bakery as well. Everything is always delicious. Well worth the drive!
electro wasabi
Had some of their pastries and they have been good. Banh mi are ok, sometimes not very fresh stuff but they are cheap. I was not a fan of their pho. And lately their iced coffee tastes burnt.
Ghiselli Alcantar
The 6pack bahn mi is worth the 45 minute drive from my house to New Orleans East.
IntrepidTeach
Finding this little place was worth the trek. We just got carry out right before closing. The Vietnamese sandwiches were fresh & tasty, and a great deal at $4.00 The red velvet cake was also superb, and the King Cake was the best I've had so far in NOLA.
Cheyenne Tran
Istg anytime i go to new Orleans i will go here! Their bahn mi is absolutely amazing. I got some sweets there too and they were delicious 😋. I wish I could have them deliver things all the way to MS. …
Andrea F
This place has the absolute best Vietnamese food in Louisiana. It is way out in New Orleans East, does not do dinner hours, but is worth the drive. The bakery part also has wonderful desserts. It is well worth the trip out.
Alexa Rowell
Best king cakes & fresh bread! We also tried their bbq pork sandwich and it was amazing.
Anjay Keswani
The best of the best! Don't Phoung has been there as long as I can remember.
Calq H
Their meat pies are very good. I usually pick up a dozen variety every time. The banh mi is good too, $5.50 each. The restaurant is ok. I prefer Pho Bang down the street.
Vivian B
This has to be the best place for banh mi. I cannot describe enough how good it is. They gave u generous fillings for the banh mi. And it tasted heavenly!!! I’m glad I decided to try it out because the food from the restaurant next door was so so. However the banh mi from the bakery shop saves the day! So I give this place a 5/5 yayyy.. would love to come back some day in the future!
Paulius Donauskas
Everybody knows this is the BEST king cake in town.. just drive to the bakery and pick one up in the morning (during MardiGrass season).. they should have stock..
jrcampbell1011
Overall a little disappointing driving from all the wonderful food options in New Orleans to this ok experience. We started in the bakery and ordered a sandwich without cucumber and watched a microwaved sandwich with a little bit of dressing get a giant slab of cucumber, leading to a dry/chewy sandwich. But at least they gave/charged us an extra one we didn't want or discover until we sat down in the restaurant. After sitting in the restaurant and waiting 5-10 minutes to get menus and check if we wanted some water we ordered the bun with short rib. Apparently this also got the microwave since the meat was quite tough/chewy but otherwise the noodles were good and meal was pleasant. The spring rolls also were quite good and wonderful flavor/texture though also a little chewy. However the sauce they were served with had coagulated and was pretty lumpy. Again, not a terrible dining experience but not worth the drive out of main city New Orleans if you are looking for some good food.
Barry K
I love seeing a minority owned bakery turn out the best king cake and French bread this town has to offer. Best bahn mis in town as well.
Aliya
BEST SPICY BEEF PHO & BANH MI SAMMIES ///definitely worth the commute & wonderful service ❤
Bill Greenlaw
Awesome King Cake! I had one brought home to me in NJ that was at least a few days old, and it was awesome!!! Better than anything I had when I lived there in the 1990s. My friend had to wait in line, then get a ticket, then come back, so don't expect to walk in and get a King Cake in season without sacrificing some time. They also limit the number of cakes per person. I may stop by on my next visit juts to see what other baked good they offer.
Naomia Johnston
This is an amazing AMAZING place- my first trip there for a king cake that I would kill for if I had to! Unbelievable king cake!!! Fresh baked by hand- no doubt the greatest cake I've ever eaten in my 48 years. To top it off I bought the duck lunch and shared with my husband - we were both full for 13$ WHAT? The duck was juicy and delicious! This place is Nola hidden gem!
Chloe Young
I went here Sunday in the afternoon with my family to get some delicious meat pies. Its so buttery, crispy, and flavorful inside. It taste bomb even when its cold. The only downside is when its busy, the place is so cramped that there isn't a fast or efficient way to purchase and leave contently.
Linda N (Linderr)
Totally worth the drive here. The banh mi is cheap compared to every other place that sells them for like 3x more. Their pastries are also delicious. I like to eat their banh bao (the bbq is my fav) and pate chaud. They also sell their bread for cheap so definitely stock up on those as they are excellent for other dishes if you're a home cook. There's a restaurant connected to the bakery that have great food too if you want to make the trip worth it. It can get pretty packed on weekends though
Edit: they significantly increased the prices for their banh mi
Phil DeLeeuw
I've been working closer to here for two months a year over the past four years. I just discovered this place last week. How have I ever been missing out on this gem?
Chantal Pham
Best dac biet banh mi in Nola which are hard to find in Nola. They also have vegetarian options. I have only tried the bakery side.
Kimberly Walker
We drove an hour to get here! TWICE!! Took about 10-15 mins to get to the front of the line for our Cream Cheese King Cake but it was absolutely worth it! This is by far the most delicious king cake we have ever tried.
Brooke Barnett
I almost feel bad giving a 4-star review but there is next to no filling in the cakes. I seriously could not tell the difference between the cream cheese and the cinnamon. While the cakes are good I strongly suggest you add more filling to differentiate the flavors. The pecan has just pecans in it. I was terribly disappointed because I expected a 7-star king cake. Definitely worth the try though.
Marquita L. Simmons
Great service, great food, and great baked bread items!!!
Pete Broussard
This place is the absolute best Vietnamese food and baked goods in New Orleans and is quick and very reasonably priced! It is a treat every time my wife and go and sometimes we go twice a day! Haha, It’s that good!! Thank y’all for being here!
Kit Datson
The food is really good but the weight staff needs work had to wait several times to refill iced tea and other things

I'm a New Orleans native... and I'm kinda old. So I've eaten and enjoyed LOTS of king cake in my life. Many years ago, 'filled' king cakes were introduced and quickly earned lots of fans. Over the years, there have been other creative 'tweaks' to the standard king cake. But the recent 'dramatic' positive response to Dong Phuong king cakes really got my attention.
This was my first visit to Dong Phuong. The drive there took about 30 minutes... a big deal. I went for lunch... and to buy a couple of king cakes [ I had never tasted theirs ].
I was waiting to be seated in the restaurant when I found out that getting the cakes that day might be tricky.
Turns out they were giving out numbers to people... who would be served in that order. Each number would be allowed a maximum purchase of two cakes. Seems that, because of the growing popularity of these king cakes, some people were buying them and selling them at 'scalper' prices. [ No problem for me. That's just for your information. ]
These king cakes are considered by some to be the best in the city. So... the wait was understood. Just know that they seem to make a limited number of cakes... so, at some point, there's no guarantee that you'll get any.
After I got my cakes, I put them in the car and went back to the restaurant for lunch. I enjoyed my meal a lot. The price was reasonable. One special treat was the very strong iced coffee with condensed milk.
When I got home, I cut into that king cake to find out just why it was getting such great reviews. Well... it's delicious. Kinda like a slightly dense croissant. The icing on top is light and creamy... tasting like it actually has some cream cheese in it. Overall, it's different from other king cakes I've had. [ To me, king cakes are either 'dense', like cinnamon rolls... or 'lighter', like a brioche. ]
Bottom line... I look forward to eating more Dong Phuong king cakes. They're SO good! I know I'll go back for more.
Natalia Hannan
Here is my detailed king cake review: The dough is closer to a croissant than a typical king cake. It has great butter flavor, followed by cinnamon, and is not sweet. It works spectacularly with a generous amount of cream cheese/buttercream frosting with colored sugar adornments. The frosting is distinctively cream cheese flavored and is very generously applied (almost as much as a cupcake). The cream cheese variety had more of the delicious cream cheese within it's flaky layers. The strawberry is like the perfect marriage of fruit and cream cheese: strawberry jam, tart and fresh, blended with cream cheese filling. It's phenomenal, and I don't usually like fruit fillings. Overall impression is that it's as perfect as a kingcake can be. I arrived at 0545 and was within first 20 people in line. Even the long wait was pleasant because of the entertaining and agreeable people I stood near.
Clarita Alphonse
The African American lady that works there during the carnival season and sometimes on the weekends is phenomenal. She is so polite compared to the other people who work there.
Paula Foster
I can’t even begin to explain the exceptional customer experience I have had with this company. Coming in from North Carolina we were told about this company and it did not disappoint in any way. The king cake was absolutely amazing!! I highly recommend this company and their baked goods.
Cocoa Bunny
This is one of my favorite places to visit on Sunday afternoons. I've loved the boba tea since I was a little girl. I could eat everything in the bakery, especially the steamed buns. They literally have the BEST king cake in the city. Hands down.
peggy mary mccormick
Very nice little bakery ,far out of NO. Professional&polite. They make French &Vietnamese creations. Get a cream puff and flaky dough pie filled w/meat&spices. CALL AHEAD TO ORDER KING CAKES.
Mr. Nguyen
Dong Phuong Orient Restaurant surely is one of the oldest and the best Vietnamese-Chinese Restaurant in the area. It has been in business more than 35years with the same ownership. The bakery section is another best thing added in for food "to go". LOVE IT !!! Service is fast and friendly. Not thing I can say bad about this place.
Sam D
I've never eaten in the restaurant but the bakery is phenomenal. I don't often come by I-90 but if I'm even remotely near it I go out of my way to visit the bakery and purchase a lot of things. It's unbelievably cheap, staggeringly delicious, and I wish I could force them to move closer to uptown.
Colt Stubbs
Restaurant has the best pho this side of the world - Best and cheapest banh mi in the city. Huge selection of other pastries and baked goods too, great sandwiches at a very low cost. Always worth the trek out East.
Kennedy Nguyen
I used to live in Versaile with my auntie for a couple months before I moved to Houston with my family there. I have been living in Houston where has a lot of Viet restaurants but have never found any Banh Mi better than this place. Every time I come back New Orleans to visit my auntie, I gotta stop by to get some banh mi. Love this place!
Kimberly Bui
Love the pho and fresh lemonade at the restaurant! My fave at the bakery is #1 combination banh mi. Delicious!
Hoang Vu
I've been going here my entire life. Not just good food for the price. It's good food, period.
Fishman Hype
If you want what the best Nola can offer in terms of Vietnamese crusine, this is it. It gets very busy here and the bakery is a bliss to visit. Everything is delicious. Seat yourself, but make sure the staff sees you. It is a little tight and cramp. Everything on the menu is great. They do close early because of the crime in the area.
Mr F-IN Petty
Delicious very filling and enjoyable from start to finish
Joe Nunez
This place has great pho and the best french bread in the city. When I am craving banh mi this is where I go. The price is very affordable and the service is quick making it great for lunch during the work week. I've also noticed several restaurants in the city that use the french bread so I stop in to pick up a few loafs when I've got a use in mind.
Tam Van
Always a solid choice for Vietnamese fare in the NOLA East area. The bakery attached to the restaurant offers freshly baked sweets, savory pastries, and banh mi. Come early for the best selection, they sell out often. Be sure to check the hours, they close pretty early in the day.
Dee
The food is delicious and filling! The bakery is always filled with goodies.
AF Penton
The food is delicious, the staff is super nice and helpful, and the parking is easy! It's such a surprise that this bakery/restaurant is so amazing while looking so unassuming on the outside.
Richard Frazier I
Just looking at the King Cake dough might make you think it is dry pastry, but it has a buttery moist feeling that is amazing. The Coconut is hands down the best. I know, that's my opinion. Actually, all flavors are delicious. This treat is so authentically French the City of New Orleans should really find a way to make sure Dong Phoung can supply demand. No other King Cake is more sought than Dong Phoung.
Jeff Bourgeois
All the goodies. Wish I had taken a pic. The bakery will just blow you away. Best Vietnamese French bakery and restaurant. Everyone goes for the bubble tea, I always get five loaves of the French pistolletts.
Travis Pillow
I have tried dozens of Nola king cake purveyors during carnival season. Dong Phoung’s are the best. Worth the drive East other times of year for pho, Banh mi or Vietnamese pastries.
Mimi James
Decadent tasting king cake!!! Soo worth the 1.5hrs waiting in line. Will definitely be going back soon
Nara lin
They have amazing Pastries at the bakery next door as well as HUGE king cakes! The bake everything fresh daily and the restaurant has amazing food! From their Vietnamese Sandwiches to their Pho it's all fantastic, mouth watering goodness! =D
RJ Bridger
This Vietnamese/French bakery is simply awesome. Easily in the top 3 king cakes in the entire region. But it's the french bread, buns, and wonderful savory hand pies that make this the brightest culinary diamond in NOLA-East. Plus, management and staff are super nice and competent. The restaurant adjacent to the bakery is under different management (still in the family, though), but is also very good and worth a visit. One tip: If you want to eat banh mi from the bakery in the restaurant, my experience has been that you need to get your table and order drinks and any additional food, like pho, before you get your banh mi in the bakery. If you get banh mi in the bakery, then go to the restaurant and sit down, the servers assume you don't want anything from them. That may have changed, but has happened in the past.
David H. Nguyen
Their king cakes are legit. Had a friend mail one to our office for celebration of Mardi Gras. Even a day+ old king cake was still the best I had ever had. The cream cheese filling is what sets it apart. It is super moist like eating a giant cinnamon roll.
Generally, king cakes are too sweet for my liking but this one was a good balance.
Kevin Chang
Recommended online.. we had to stop by before making our long drive back to Florida. Their banh mi sandwiches are great and their other buns, pastries are also yummy but definitely get their banh mi especially the grilled pork one. Also just buy a bunch of baguettes, you won't regret it I promise. If anything, you'll wish you bought more!
Nghia Huynh
The best bakery in the business known for their legendary banh mis. Their other pastry selections are great as well but people come near and far for their banh mi. I've tried banh mis from Cali, Texas, NYC, and even Vietnam and only a handful have come close to being as good as Dong Phuong's.
Julieta Le
Best authentic Vietnamese restaurant in the world and the bakery is amazing also. Every time I pass by this place I make sure to stock up. You must try this place. It is amazing. Beware food coma. The portions are large.
Nate Benware
Amazing King Cake! Highly recommend!! I wish I would have taken a picture, but it was eaten too fast for pics!
Randy Kyzar
Still the same goodness after 15 years just a little smaller bowl ;) they serve pho soup there my favorite pho is combination which means everything. They also have other dishes that are authentic and outstanding. My mom is from Vietnam. She came to see me in New Orleans. I taken my mother out to this restaurant. It was getting ready to close. I ask the owner if they stayed open later for my family. The owner agreed to service even though was about to close. They restarted the kitchen and prepared survival multiple authentic Vietnamese dishes from my mother and family. And I'm a man of my word and I kept my promise. I taken good care of the staff she was really happy running to the back of the kitchen with a big 😃 a handsome president. 😃 The owner knows me. When I walked in even though it has been 15 years ago she remember me and came by to say hello to me. It was a warming feeling to come back and God has been so kind to this owner which is a super nice lady that still looks the same from 15 years ago when I first meet her. It was a wonderful feeling going back. The owner when you see this please reply back soon as possible lots of love for you cooking and appreciate officially fresh baked french bread everyday.
Sincerely your friend,
Mr. Kyzar

This place has been a childhood favorite of mine for the past 35 plus years. The French bread bag s or the top seller and their Banh mi prices are unbeatable. Also stop by their restaurant to get Family Classics from their menu as well as their boba drinks

Great bun bo hue and banh mi. Great atmosphere and great food. Recommend.

The Pho, sweets is good you can't lose at this spot!
P Ieong
One of the best kingcakes in New Orleans. If you're looking for something less sweet and more pastry-like, this is the place to come. There is a reason people drive all the to the East for this award-winning kingcake. The bakery is just okay, in my opinion. Lots of vietnamese options that just doesn't fit my palette.
Nancy Gervais
The only reason I took off a star is the sketchy neighborhood and the fact that you have to get there pretty early if you want to get exactly what you want. This goes double for king cakes, which are incredibly delicious and incredibly popular. The icing is more of a buttercream than the traditional kind. The cream cheese filling is most definitely not out of a can. Moist and so yummy! Be sure to go hungry to take advantage of their fresh banh mi on their excellent French baguettes. Take home some meat pies and bao. Just make sure to lock your car doors and be aware of your surroundings.
Marc Thibodeaux
This place is amazing! Their food is cooked fresh, and their food comes out in large portions. Everytime I eat here, I leave with dinne for later in the day.
The best part about this place is, they are connected to their own bakery. Their meat pies are amazing, and their pastries are to die for. Would definitely recommend this place.
Brian Bogan
I have to say that I am an idiot at times. I didn't really get into Vietnamese food until about 15 years ago. I missed out but I have been making up for it ever since. Pho is a go to meal for me at least twice a week. It was really sent here to pick up bread to make sandwiches at home, but low and behold there was wasn't just a Bakery, but a Restaurant next door as well. That being said, lunch was already planned for the day so fast forward to the next day.
I got there around 11:30 and there was a crowd already. I ordered the number 45 Pho which is loaded with Beef. The broth was a little sweeter than what I'm used to but great flavor. In fact once all the veggies and spice were added in it all balanced out. Service was ok, and a little cramped in some places but a great bowl of soup you can expect.
On the way out I picked up a few different meat pies and treats for the folks at home from the Bakery. New Orleans and Houston, (Especially New Orleans) are really fusing Vietnamese food with local home town favorites. While you can't beat traditional New Orleans style French bread, places like this are really pushing the envelope. I'll be back.
Xyirx
You have NEVER been in New Orleans until...you visit this bakery. Its fresh, warm bakery is unworldly delicious. Grab the tong, open the cabinet, and grab everything you could get in there. You won't even feel guilty. D:
I just ate 2 pates, a meat pie, a pepper chicken turnover, a steamed pork bun, and a yucca pie within 2 hours. I just had a big bowl of pho right before this, so I'm full as hell but I want to drive back there and grab some more now.
S. Ahmad-Nabhan
We came from LaPlace and waited 2 hours in line and boy, was it well worth the wait. Delicious!! But I must mention my only complaint is that they made clear that there is a 2 per person, but the young cashier allowed a gentlemen behind us to buy 3 just because she said please.Very unfair when you made your policy clear for everyone else standing in line. So apparently, if you want 3 just say please to the cashier.
Tam Nguyen
Lots of great foods and bread. Must try the patacheud here.
E C
Always a pleasure to sit down here. The food is fresh and delicious, and the establishment always has seats available due to not too many out-of-towners knowing of it. If you're ever nearby, definitely give it a visit and don't forget to tip the wonderful staff.
Mark Clark
Please do yourself a favor and make the drive to New Orleans East for Dong Phoung Bakery! The best kept secret in the city. Any local will tell you that DP is a must try! The best!
Bridget Nolan
An institution! If you want real deal Vietnamese food look no further. The bakery is top notch! All the food from the dining room is also amazing. Worth the drive out to the east every time!
Minh Pham
Hidden gem located in New Orlean's East Side. We always stop by here and load up on french-inspired Vietnamese baked goods whenever we visit New Orleans. They make hands down the best Vietnamese po-boys I have ever eaten (beats those made in other large Vietnamese communities from Los Angeles, to Houston, to D.C.).
A must do: if you see the lady rolling a cart of fresh baked french bread from the bakery, located in the back of the building, to the store, located at the front of the building, buy yourself a handful! Split a loaf in half and sniff in the sweet smell of freshly baked dough. Pinch out the center fluffy piece and enjoy as it literally melts in your mouth. Next bite into the crunchy/flaky exterior and savor the same amazing test in a different texture. Finally voraciously devour the rest of the loaf because that will be the only logical thing to do. Enjoy!
C Y
Hot meat buns cheaper than burgers, get it by the tray. Don't forget the Subs made to order! Take some for the road! If you're visiting New Orleans, better stop by here first and load up before heading over to get scalped by the French quarter!
Dennis Ma
Amazing banh mi and pate choux meat pies. Highly recommend the bun, com sung and bun rieu in the restaurant. The "small" bowls were filled to the brim with meat, noodles and soup. There is a reason why so many Vietnamese Grandmas and Grandpas are eating in the restaurant and filling containers with buns. Everything we ate was tasty and fresh.
Mitch Marcello
Amazing Vietnamese Bakery. Great banh-mis for lunch, and a variety of ethnic Vietnamese sweets for eye-popping prices. A must-see if you're in the area.
Lee Washington
Good food, (had the chicken, shrimp and beef stir-fry) and nice people, and a good price for the amount of food. I will be back!
JeAnne Swinley
This is so worth the trip. The lunch specials are a phenomenal deal. The pho is the best I've had in Nola.
If you happen into the bakery, you may see some weird items, but the steamed buns, the almond cookies, and the $3 banh sandwiches cannot be beat. Do yourself a favor and get some rolls to take home... Three for $1.
I believe they bake for the take away section of Hong Kong market as well.
Roshanda Minor
I've been here multiple times. Very good food, especially the banh mi. If you go to the restaurant section, just be careful if you have any "quality" issues. The older woman(one of the owners) at the To-Go counter was like a bat out of hell LOL
A P
Fresh delicious king cakes!! The regular bakery has delicious savory meat pies. It’s always busy in the bakery so everything is fresh fresh fresh. Try their fantastic sponge cakes after the Mardi Gras season - very similar to the awesome sponge cakes you get in the Chinese bakeries in China Town in San Francisco, CA. This bakery is WORTH the drive from wherever you are. The restaurant food is ok. The Pho is not as delicious as the one at Pho Sunrise in Kenner. The older female wait staff could be a little more polite- they are a bit curt. And that interaction does nothing to improve tips - management could tell them to be more polite.
Antonio Carbone
Excellent family run restaurant. Some of the best grilled chicken bún anywhere.
Gerard
Best king cakes currently available.
Jessica Vieytes
Great food and kind staff !!
D T
Best Vietnamese food in the New Orleans region. We regularly visit Dong Phuong. Our family (including our 15 year old son) loves the pho, and other dishes. Everyone is friendly in the restaurant, so don’t worry if it is your first time visiting.
P Wulfe
Best Vietnamese in the state. Hands down best, no contest. Bon Bo Hue is insane here and the prices are more than reasonable especially since they fill your bowl to the brim with the good stuff. So come on, sit down, order some spring rolls with that amazing peanut sauce, and thank me later.
Sarai Solis
This is one of the best Bakeries in New Orleans. There's a restaurant next to it as well. It is owned and served by vietnamese people, who are very friendly. The bánh mì or vietnamese sandwich is amazing, for vegetarian diets, you can have the one with tofu or just veggies. If you enjoy strong coffee, get a vietnamese coffee, you won't regret it.It is famous for it's king cake as well.
Patrick Kelly
Great spot for sandwiches and pastries. Their king cakes are the best in town.
stefanie nelson
Drove over real early to try thier king cake . Disappointed to done to had. It's just bringing of the season Not even any small size to buy and sample in store . Cant image there making so much money that thier marketing and sales are not missing my dollars how many others dollars have been turn away . On good note the French bread is so good I'll keep stopping by for it[
Lance Jones
For the ultimate sub sandwiches and fresh baked goods, you can't go wrong here. We love to get their freshly baked French bread. Their mini-pies and cinnamon rolls are to die for.
Steven Diamond
Wow, what a find this is. If you're near here at all it is a must stop!
Sonny Nites
Certainly lives up to its reputation. Being Vietnamese, I've tried many different places & dishes, but the quality of food here is phenomenal considering the wide variety. The bakery with French bread & desserts a definite plus.
Virginia Fernandez
Take the ride to the NOE for the best, cheapest banh mi you've ever had made by a very angry looking lady with sharp, bitter eyebrows. Homegirl will slap your sandwich together in 5 seconds and YOU WILL LOVE IT.
Get some of the delicious pork/chicken/pate pies that are only $1.50 HELLO and the famous french bread which is also super cheap.
Andra McClue
I go here at least once a week for lunch. The Banh Mi are so good. The Vietnamese sausage and bbq chicken are my favorites. The coconut and apple pies are also delicious.
Aaron Putnam
Always the nicest people! The baked goods are always delicious. You know it's good when there is always a line. It may be out of the way for most. But worth the trip! Meat pies are most delicious
M K (Smuttynose)
Their dough is the stuff of legends. From sandwiches to baos to pastries and cakes, they have never made something I haven't liked. Every thing there is worth the money, bet that.
B Earl
We came here specifically so my husband could get their ba me (sp) sandwiches which were absolutely delicious! We got 5 different ones and each were great. The desserts we got were ok but the sandwiches were the best!!
num1lsufan
Finally was able to come and try the famous Dong Phuong I've heard so much about. Ordered the pork chop plate was delicious The meat was seasoned and cooked perfectly, and the other ingredients were all very fresh. Probably one of the most tender chops I've ever tasted. The dish was more than enough food for only $9. The staff is friendly.
David Dunning
Dong Phuong is an institution in this city known for it's delicious king cakes every mardi gras and AMAZING food all year round. If you go into their bakery side, you can get a variety of sweets and also banh mi which are top-notch and very cheap. If you go into the restaurant side just next door, a wide array of authentic vietnamese cuisine is at your fingertips. They have bubble tea! So it is a perfect excuse to take a trip out to the east and eat real good.
Matthew Rafat
My vermicelli noodles with grilled chicken and my sister’s bun rieu (seafood soup with light, non-spicy broth) were amazing. My brother-in-law liked his vegetarian pho, too.
The restaurant is connected to the bakery, which serves sandwiches on toasted French bread (banh mi) and assorted desserts. (February 2019)
Jessica Hankins
I would give the food 5 stars and service 1 or 2 stars. My husband is a celiac but loves the filling of the sandwichs. Ask for no bread and they freak out and get very nasty and yell at you. Absolutely ridiculous over bread.
Campy Lewis
Excellent restaurant for dishes from the Orient. Nice looking environment with plenty of staff. Service is polite and efficient. I have had fish dishes here that are flavorful and moist. Soups packed with vege and meat.
Matt R
It's ok. Let's face it, if your're reading this it's probably because you're curious about the King Cakes. The King Cakes here ARE pretty good and probably the best I've had. I used to only eat Randazzos when it came to king cakes, but honestly Dong Phuong is better in my opinion. They're not mind-blowing good, but they ARE very good. I don't really understand why people line up at the butt-crack of dawn and wait in line for one, but I'm sure they are mind-blowing to some people. We did also eat at the restaurant inside. The food there was "meh". I had something that came with like, these meat filet things. It was kind of odd honestly. I wouldn't go back there to eat, but I would go back for the King Cakes.
Maxine Jean-Louis
It’s worth the drive if you do not live in the east. Great bakery excellent restaurant.
Christopher Powell
Best Banh Mi outside of Vietnam. Great service, low prices. Totally worth the drive if you enjoy making your mouth feel like it is back in Siagon.
Trish A Tovar
Bakery is good;I love their sandwiches, but if you think you are going there to get king cake, think again. Online orders only
Erin Segura
Amazing, delicious king cake. Handled curbside very well during the pandemic. Looking forward to being able to eat in the restaurant again one day!
Bill Bui
Cheap and good 👍 👌 yummy 😋 …
A Stockton
They bake the best French bread in the city. It's the only bread I'll use when making po-boys or bread pudding. When Mardi Gras rolls around I make sure to stock up on their amazing king cakes.
Derek Davis
Of course it’s all about the king cakes here, the lines are EXTREMELY long- I can’t stress that enough- during carnival season. Cakes are good, but I don’t know if they are THAT good. Pecan cake was a winner for me.
Michael Wong
I go there every Friday to get bahn mi. The Vietnamese Sausage is my favorite since it has a peanut sauce in it.
Also the (green) steam bun with the red dot and the baked one are good char siu bao. At least that's what we call them in Chinese
My brothers Keeper
My truck driving brother-in-law just happened to be driving a load from Atlanta on the last day of Mardi Gras. Seeing the line, he ducked in to buy 2 king cakes. He dropped one off to me and it was the most delicious thing I had ever put in my mouth. I wish he had brought me 12 of them
Melissa Adams
They make the best french bread and one of the best king cakes. Too bad they dont make enough king cakes , I haven't been able to get one for 2 yrs now.
Rosalind Rogers
Best French Bread.
Cal Vincenzi
The vermicelli is good but best reason to come here from the northshore is the bakery. Had a banana puree thing with coconut milk from the bakery turning around to get 3 or 4 more now.
Gilbert Bennett
Their game has made it a lot harder to get the goods, but still the best meat pies in New Orleans and in my opinion the best king cakes as well
Theo Roll
Every kind of food was delicious. The combination of bakery and restaurant was convenient. Even the 6 year-old and 3 year-old enjoyed their food and the maro. The service was friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.
Dylan Hill
All the ladies who work here are always so sweet. Came in and bought a large bag of pastries and banh mi for my crew and the nice lady I was chatting with also gave me this cute Dong Phuong coffee thermos which I will treasure forever
Dave Kessler
Definitely authentic. A bit of a drive to get here. I can't judge against the other local spots but I would like to explore a little more before locking it in as my favorite local pho spot.
Marnie Bucklew
OMG! I am in heaven! I just ate the Pate Chaud and it was transcendent!!! Hubby had the Chicken Meat pie and Almond Croissant, he said they were delicious.
Jake Kunkel
Best king cake ever!
Caylie Sadin
The king cake is amazing. The coconut king cake stole my heart this year. Very subtle and delish. Also the bahn mi are always good.

Picked up my coconut king cake and it is delicious! Highly recommend the king cakes!
Jim Stewart
Great food and Amazon prices. Get the sandwhiches
Colten Creel
They have the best Pho soup in the greater New Orleans area. Also, everything else I've gotten at Dong Phuong's has been delicious! Highly recommended!
Dot Lohr
Great king cakes... worth the visit!! But be very careful when traveling Irish Bayou & 90 Junction a car pulled up out of no where, driver wearing bandanna threw huge rock at my vehicle hoping to get me to stop... Be very cautious... Police Report Filed...
Carla Sprattling
The food was so good that I scarfed it all down before I could take a single picture. Delicious... delicious... DELICIOUS!!! Stop by both the bakery and the restaurant. Trust me it's worth it!
Gerry de gruiter
Best bakery around...restaurant has limited menu since COVID but safe distance tables and food on menu slthough limited was excellent...had a rice dish with beef...grilled 3 cuts of looked like fkank steak with pickled veggies...excellent and cost was less than 3 steak tacos in Houston...brought half home for another meal....wife had Bun pork...excellent...be sure to ask for extra fish sauce
Robert Gibson
Phenomenal french bread. Exceptional bahn mi sandwiches. I live out of town now so I miss my NOLA french bread. Often times stop at Dong Phuong on my way out of town to scratch my itch.
Brandy Lindsey
Bakery bread - perfect. Bahn Mi - authentic.
King Cake - I havent been lucky enough to try it but I hear it is amazing.
John Radziewicz
Different king cakes than I'm used and very good. It's not close to downtown. Lines weren't bad both time I went this year
Phillip Ward
Yuca pie was awesome!
Michael Weatherford
Everything we had here was great. The Banh Mi, the steam bund and the meat turnover. Be warned, this place is super busy and chaotic with only a small section to get the food you want. The Pate Chaud was sold out but we waited the 30 minutes to get one since it was recommended. Overall, if you're in the area then stop by.
BJ C. Jean
They sell small french bread style rolls 6 for $3.00. They are crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. Like real french bread should be. Of course they have other pastries but I hope there for the bread. LOL.....
Josh Barnes
Really good. Staff is very nice. Do skip the egg rolls however.
Mark Herman
I've come to the bakery only once before. Decided to cross over to the restaurant. Had stir fried vegetables with beef and chicken. EXCELLENT! bakery is packed with customers. Service in restaurant is excellent and efficient.
Kim Minor
Delicious! I was disappointed after driving from Algiers, I was told that they don't make cinnamon rolls during Mardi Gras season. I hate Mardi Gras!!!
Scott Kelly
I usually order the L17 Vermicelli with Tofu and egg roll. This is off the lunch menu and comes with egg drop soup or sweet and sour soup. I think they have some of the best egg drop soup in the area.
Lisa Howell
In 2010 the New York Times reported that most banh mi in the South are made with bread from Dong Phuong and referred to the experience of having a banh mi at Dong Phuong as "one of the signal pleasures of the American South.”
And it is.
Besides, the place is huge, shipping baked goods all over the US. It’s really bucket list stuff.
judy thorne
They have the best breads, sweets & bahn mi. They rate an A+ on vivid compliance, too. Highly recommend
Brandon Dohn
Best Banh Mi! Recommend Chinese BBQ pork.
edgardo ario

Always awesome food. The bakery is requiring face masks. Yay!
Elaine Rivera
The BEST kingcake! Definitely worth the trip and wait in line. Only 2 kingcakes allowed per person, so if you need more, bring someone along.

Fred Thoede
Got in line early for King Cake. I'm sure it is worth the wait.
Christine Faulkner
Kinds cakes. Pate choud. Bahn mi. Life. If you go too close to closing time, they will be out of a lot of the meats for their bahn mi, so be prepared to try another delicious combination instead!
Maung Moe
Best bakery around. Reasonable prices and delicious bake goods. The only negative thing is that it's very small place and sometimes the line is out the door, literally.
Darrell Sprattling

This place is run like a well oiled machine. The ladies keep a tight ship and skip all the friendly chat but they are quick and efficient. This place has a home in my heart since it is located near my family home.
