Reviews of Costera

1st time here, was so good, each plate was delicious, very small plates, but great. Our wait staff was the BEST!!. Shout out to Charity for never letting our drinks run dry, and Rachel for great attention to our table. Both girls top notch along either the food.

Always a five start experience. This is our favorite restaurant in New Orleans. This last visit we had the paella which words cannot do it justice. All of the depth of flavors just sing. The fish a la plancha is also our staple. The latest was a mountain of redfish with fresh vegetables. The new cheesecake dessert with orange glaze is divine, light fluffy, not a heavy cheesecake. I would go just for this dessert. The portions are never skimpy even for tapas. We love to go for Happy Hour. Avoid the crowds and the bar and tapas specials are well worth it. Wait staff is always prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable especially about the bar as well. This is the best curated bar in New Orleans.

Do yourself a favor … and go to this great restaurant. As a frequent traveler to Spain … this is the closest thing you will get in the USA.
Peppers
Red Snapper Crudo

And excellent drink list.

Fancy and casual restaurant that serves some delicious food. Get the family style tasting (I had it at dinner time) if you love to try new foods and a little bit of everything on the menu. The terres major steak and seafood paella was some of the best I've ever had.
Food
I got the tasting with my table of 8 and had an amazing experience. There were so many different kinds of food coming left and right that I just couldn't keep up with pictures (sorry only pic I took was of the paella, which would you look at that!!) All the food was delicious and came in appropriate portions. I especially want to give recognition to the steak and paella. The steak was cooked perfectly so that it was juicy and would just melt in your mouth. The seafood paella had TONS of seafood in it and the shrimp were GIGANTIC. They just lay the seafood on a bed of rice and it goes well together. There was so much food that we about 1/5 of the paella was leftover.
Atmosphere
The interior is very nice and has a fancy feeling to it. But the vibe was still casual enough that you could wear shorts and a t-shirt. It's the kind of place that I would want to bring my girlfriend on a date on for a special kind of occasion.
Pricing
A more expensive restaurant than I'm used to but every dollar was worth it. The food was amazing like I said in the food section above.
Service
Excellent service. Food came out much quicker than I had anticipated and the waiters would explain which each dish was. Staff was very friendly and nice to joke around with.

I had Ubered here from my hotel but there might be street parking around. I heard that the ice cream shop next door is super good.

It's fantastic that there is a tapas restaurant in New Orleans. Overall my experience was great and the tapas and cocktails were delicious. We ordered four tapas for two people and that was the perfect amount. The only reason I am withholding one star is because all four of the tapas we ordered were topped with breadcrumbs for texture. I would have preferred a more versatile method to add crunch especially since we had four different tapas. Minced raw onions, crispy garlic, pickled veggie, chopped almonds, are just a few options that might have made the tapas more versatile. Still, the flavors were good and I would go again, especially with a group so we could share more tapas!
We had the albondigas (my partner's favorite), the roasted mushrooms (my favorite), the boquerones (not traditional Spanish boquerones but still tasty), and the yellowfin tuna.
Other than an overuse of breadcrumbs we liked everything we ate! The cocktails were creative and refreshing and there was a good selection of Scotch. Service was excellent.

Every single thing we ordered was superb. I want to get hungry and do it all over again. Our server, Charles, made our dinner an amazing experience.

Had a great experience dining at Costera! My wife and I sat and ate at the bar. The servers were very informative, attentive, and friendly. We had a great bottle of Spanish Ribera del Duero and the food was excellent! We over-ordered as usual, but there were just too many tempting options. We sampled the tapas selection: jamon, blue crab salad, charred octopus. The real star of the evening though was the seafood paella! It was filled with huge prawns, mussels, crab, clams. It was the best seafood paella I've had this side of the Atlantic!

I had a fabulous time. Went with a few friends while visiting and all of the food was on point. It's a tapas place, hence you share your food and it comes from the kitchen in the order it's ready.
The menu is diverse and has lot's of sea food options.
The items we had were:
- Blistered Shishito Peppers with Arbequina and Maldon (amazing for snaking, beware that apparently 1 out of 10 is spicy)
- Charred Romaine with Roasted Fall Vegetables and Buttermilk Dressing (so good and great portion to share for 3-4 people, texture and flavor on point)
- Lamb and Beef Albondigas with Tomato, Fresh Cheese, and Smoked Peppers (these are like meatballs, their 4 per order and amazing to eat, soft and meaty)
- Mixed Roasted Mushrooms with Sourdough Croutons and Warm Egg Yolk (this one was unexpected, they were delicious, good amount as well and well cooked)
As for dessert we had the:
- Trio House Made Ice Cream (they describe it like a cortado coffee, but in ice cream, sooo good and wakes you up for the next location)
- Salted Honey Tart (nice size, not too big and not too small, my friends loved it and nothing was left).
Also, I would pair this with a nice wine, although they have cocktails as well. This wine is strong but not too strong, a good wine that makes peace with those that like stronger wines and those that like softer wines.
All in all, a good location to eat. I recommend making a reservation if a larger party or weekend as they also sometimes do events here.

I’ve been to Costera 3 times and each experience was better than the last. Every single dish was delicious - we’ve has the skirt steak with papas bravas, fish with capers, and lamb shank just to name a few. Service is very professional and attentive. Perfect for any type of celebration. I can’t recommend this place enough!

We were so excited for our first reveillon dinner experience - in NOLA! We deliberated over all of our restaurant options and finally settled on Costera. We were not disappointed - or hungry - when we left!
We booked a reservation (we went early when they opened; I don't think a reservation is really necessary between 1600 and 1700, but it filled up quickly after 1700 so I would advise making a reservation after that point). Costera is in a good location where you can find safe street parking at no cost that's close to the restaurant. Prices were comparable to most nicer restaurants downtown who are also doing reveillon options. We paid about $170 for 2 people (including tip).
Do note that if you want to do the reveillon dinner, it is family style so everyone at the table will have to do it. You can, of course, order other things off the menu, but you'll be paying for everyone in your group to do the reveillon.
Now for the food: AMAZING. For their reveillon, you don't make any choices; the chef curates your menu and it's kind of a surprise what comes out. There is a menu posted online on some third-party websites, but what were served was slightly different. We personally loved the surprise - gave us a chance to try foods we may not have otherwise chosen. And we didn't realize that each of the first 3 courses came with multiple dishes for us to taste and share. Everything was amazing.
If you're not doing the reveillon dinner, order their charred romaine. I know it sounds weird, and I probably wouldn't have chosen it myself, but it was seriously my favorite dish of the night. Every dish was phenomenal - flavorful, cooked to perfection, the right temperature, plates beautifully.
Attached are photos of some of our food. Regretfully, I didn't get photos of our MAIN course...just started chowing down too fast! But the main course was a red fish (red snapper?) and wilted broccoli.
Also, I will add that their staff were highly attentive (without being annoying), very friendly and polite, and overall provided fantastic service. They really made the whole experience even better. And we did show our proof of vaccination at the front desk for those who will wonder about that.
Rachel Housler (The Accidental Yat)
Stopped in for a couple apps at the bar. The staff was cool and welcoming with food and drink suggestions. Everything was really good - the sauce paired with the scallops was really salty for some reason and overpowered the dish, but other than that we had an overall pleasant experience. The mushrooms were exceptional.

Great paella and tapas, you can't go wrong with any dishes here. We had a tasting menu variety and everything was delicious.
The seafood in the paella was fresh, prawns and clams were sweet and cooked perfectly in the dish.
Our 8 year old kiddo had the hangar steak and she loved it. Just go, share, and enjoy!
Mai Lion
Great Spanish restaurant uptown with great cuisine. Try the chefs meal. You will not be disappointed.
Tony Carbonell
It is primarily a tapas bar. The $65.00 tasting menu is SUPERB. If your evening is NOT going to include lots of PARTY drinks, (All great!) you will NOT spend too much for the quality of the food, the staff, the ambiance. The HOUSE gin and tonic, with the grapefruit and cardamom was superb. I was told, if I didn't like it, it would be taken off the bill. I had 2. The espresso martini, after dinner was amazing. Nuff said. Too GOOD!!!!! Just go. My new favorite restaurant in NOLA

What a nice surprise! I had never heard of Costera until a friend suggested eating here. We had reservations for 5pm on a Sunday. Street parking was available and there were plenty of tables available. We left a little after 7pm and it was almost packed, so get here early!
Happy hour is 4 - 6 everyday, so yay! I’m not a gin person but was pleasantly surprised by the Gin & Tonic (with grapefruit, lime and mint). The flavors were evident but not overpowering…and it looked pretty! Most of the items are designed to be shared, but our group was greedy and we all ordered our own food lol. I had the beef shank and potato bombas (so delicious) and the scallops. The scallops were accompanied by pasta and yummy, crispy bacon. I can’t describe the flavors, but it was very good and unique. For dessert, I had a salted caramel tart. It was so good and had the perfect mix of sweet and salty!
I must also mention that customer service was the best! I’m definitely adding Costera to my list of “go to” places.
Sue Ceravolo
Overall good Spanish cuisine. Busy weekend so service was good considering they were packed. Neighborhood local crowd. Most of the dishes were prepared well and tasted good. Cocktails were nice. Plenty of food, we all had the coolinary menu. Everyone was stuffed when we left. I'd go back.
Cathryn Beeman
My family and I visited Costera on our last night in New Orleans, and I wish we lived closer so that we could visit again. We chose to do the family style meal for 6 people, and we all loved it. Everything we had was absolutely delicious, and I thought the price was extremely fair for the amount of food that we received. The only negative was that we couldn't visit Creole Creamery next door after because we were too full 😆
Mengyuan Chen
We tried the tasting menu, overall a very pleasant experience. Costera has a relaxing and camlful environment, I really like the vibe here.
The tasting menu is definitely more than enough for 2 people, and more towards seafood side. The flavor is overall sour and salty, which I’m not a big fan of. My favorite 3 dishes are the fired ball, mushroom and the desert.
Mark Minsky
Best restaurant experience in a long time.
Our party of six went with the 3 course family style offering. A great variety of hot and cold dishes culminated with an outstanding dessert selection. Servers were exceptional. Kept the food coming, promptly removed dirty plates and utensils, timely asked about need for more wine and drinks, etc.
Paige Erno
Went here to celebrate my anniversary, and it was the best experience and meal I’ve had! We had the seafood paella which was delicious and paired it with wine and dessert. Perfect date night spot and they have a great happy hour!
Lisa Marie Frantz
You can tell the food here is fresh. Great spot for tapas, good wine list, and nice atmosphere. That being said, everything tasted like it was just missing one small something that we couldn't put our finger on. Just wanted more punch of flavors.
Collins Sigler
Highly recommend especially for the price. Awesome ambience as well. Pizza and meatballs were delicious. Papperdelle wasn't as spectacular as we heard but still was good! Definitely a good go to spot.
El Cook
Booked this for a large group, a majority of whom said they never had or didn’t really care for Spanish food. Not one person could stop talking about how amazing the food and service was. Go, get a 3 or 4 course tasting, and enjoy the experience because it is absolutely an experience.
Graham Winchester
We had an amazing time at Costera. Our group of four shared small plates and one large plate. Some highlights for us were the octopus, shrimp, and potatoes bravas. We didn’t have anything we didn’t like, and the cocktails we had were also very delicious, particularly the Costera gin and tonic.
John Bethke
Amazing tapas! Go with a group and order as many plates as you can to share.
El S.
Great as always! Had to knock a couple stars off the food and service because we never received one of our dishes for the Reveillon dinner even though we were charged full price. I'll definitely be back, mistakes happen.
Tia Ashton
Loved the beets with house-made ricotta. Rapini was savory, delicious. Nice selection of reasonably priced wine. Very nice service. If I lived in Nola, I'd definitely return to try more on the menu.
Vallory Plair
Love this place! Service is outstanding. Atmosphere is fun. There is a strong sense of worker appreciation at this restaurant! Everyone is happy 😊
Theodore Wong
Wide selection of tapas and great happy hour
Aaron Young
Friendly wait staff with warm smiles and great recommendations. The best way to experience this place is to go in a group, order a bit of everything and share family-style. The portions aren't large so one dish alone might leave you wanting. You can of course order by the course which will also enable you to sample more fare. The seared yellow fin tuna was incredible and the scallops were cooked to absolute perfection! The singular disappointment was with one dessert course - the brulee rice pudding. It was a fusion that missed the mark for everyone at our table and our waitress admitted that she tended to steer people towards other desserts. The almond tart with buttermilk icecream, however, was outstanding!
Katharine Di Cerbo
Outstanding meal and also waiter who was so helpful and friendly. We will remember this meal for a long time, worth the trek. My husband adds: “Best shrimp I have ever had.”
Jennifer Lindsay
What an upgrade to this space!
The menu is very shareable, which I love for meals with your friends and family- everyone can try a little of everything, which is highly recommended. For large plates, we had both the meat and the seafood paella and both pans were scraped clean! I also sampled the tuna, which was perfectly cooked and so delicious.
The inside has been completely transformed, making Costera a great selection for date night or meeting friends for a drink at their cozy (and spacious!) bar. For small plates, try the papas bravas, the olives, blistered shishito peppers or the lamb sweetbreads.
Please try one of each of the desserts and thank me later. If you only have room for one or two, I suggest you get the chocolate dish and the cheesecake. I am still thinking of that lemon curd on the cheesecake and it's a week later.
In addition to the more intimate tables, there is space to seat parties, so consider this when scheduling your next work lunch, birthday dinner, etc.
For such a large space, it's also pretty quiet, which was a bonus for me.
casey urschel
My wife and I had a wedding reception/dinner here this weekend for 40 people and everything was perfect. The paella and the apps were amazing, and the service exceeded our high expectations. They also had an outstanding wine selection, and we could not be happier with how this turned out. Thanks to everyone on the Costera team for a fantastic party.
Aaron Traub
The food, drinks, and ambiance were great. We went during happy hour and it was very fairly priced. Our waiter Joe was very friendly and provided us with some great options. We will definitely be back!
Kimi B
Discovered this place two years ago during COOLinary; it’s now a staple. The gambas, mushrooms, papas bravas and steak are perfection. Small but interesting beer selection. Nice craft cocktails. Friendly staff. It’s a tapas based menu so bring friends and eat everything.
Waveney Jaisingh
The restaurant is lovely. Great cocktails and the food was fantastic. Had the octopus. Perfectly done. The Jerez Swizzle was fantastic.
Jacob Kaitholil
Came her with my wife for a nice dinner date. I would recommend taking part in the tasting menu in order to try various items. Tapas style food with a variety of choices to pick from. 9/10 would definitely recommend to people visiting from out of town.
Samantha White
Food was delicious, but service was really slow and our server didn't check on us very often. Wine list was extensive, but the server wasn't as knowledgeable as you'd like and it took a long time to get our bottle once we ordered
rebecca thomas
This place was AMAZING! Went for a work dinner and the the tasting menu. WOW! So much food! Great service, excellent cocktails.
Emily Wcislo
Amazing and delicious new tapas style restaurant in the Uptown neighborhood. We ordered several rounds of small plates to the table, which were coursed out perfectly by our very experienced server. Everything was extremely well made and was as close to real Spanish tapas as you can get in the U.S. The octopus was definitely my favorite, with super fresh ingredients. Will be visiting again for sure!
Richard Hunter
Another gem outside of New Orleans' tourist area. At the previously reviewed LUKE restaurant, I asked the waiter if he had one night, just one night, to pick any place in New Orleans, where would it be. Costera was the reply. An uber jump later and it did not disappoint. The mushrooms were out of this world in a sherry sauce, but the cheesecake... if you don't try it you will regret it for the rest of your life without even knowing it.
Trevor Holder
Everything we tried here was excellent. The cream stuffed mushrooms had so much flavor that burst into your mouth as you first bite down. The pork belly was super tender and had this great crispy outside.
Molly Mann
Legitimately love this restaurant every single time I visit! If you're looking for a great combination, go for the shishito peppers and a Spanish Sunset for your cocktail. The staff is beyond accommodating and you will never be disappointed.
jonathan wickman
This place was absolutely amazing. Food, atmosphere, and wine were all on point. It was hard to select a favorite ...you have to get the paella and try the different tapas like the salt cod tortilla. I am visiting from San Francisco but this will be a place I will come back to everytime I am in Nola.
Jason C
Costera is my go to restaurant in New Orleans! I am celiac, and thus gluten free. To my delight there is a gluten free menu!! <3 Plentiful tapas dishes on the menu for gf and even more for non-gf customers. So delicious! A great wine list and superb customer service I highly recommend Costera! If you are gluten free and are looking for a restaurant I highly highly recommend this gem!
traci vw
Tried their Reveillon inspired tasting menu before Xmas and it was amazing. 4 courses and almost every single thing was perfection. Exciting Spanish tastes and flavors. Service was slow to start, not sure why the food took forever/a bottle of wine to start coming out, but great once it got going. Servers were lovely and attentive. Cant wait to check out happy hour
Kathryn Hagerty
Great tapas place! Pork belly was fantastic, and scallops were cooked to perfection.
Craig Margolis
Excellent, great small plate selection and wonderful wine list
Melissa Bennett Simeon
The appetizers are delicious - we had the beet goat cheese salad, papas bravas and blue crab salad. For entrees - the terres major steak was great, but the scallops a la plancha were kind of a let down. All in all, the restaurant service is fantastic, wine selections were in point, and atmosphere is perfect for date night or a night out with friends.
camille cochran
The gambas al ajillo is truly the best shrimp dish I’ve ever had in my life and I’m a Spanish girl from coastal Louisiana. Excellent service. The managers are always checking on you. Great wine menu. I also loved the crudo and wish I would have gotten more.
Bryan Briggs
Very delicious food. Explosion of flavor in each dish. We went for Coolinary, so we got to taste a lot of different things and it was all awesome. Redfish was phenomenal. Cocktails are very tasty as well. Service was a very slight bit slow but every table was full, so can't complain much about that.
Reggie Tatum
Went in looking for what used to be La Thai and took a chance on Costera and the food was excellent. I will go back and try out the seafood paella next.
James Cobb
What can't be said about the food that hasn't already been said in other reviews? The service is fantastic, the ambiance was warm and natural. Every table we saw when we sat down was having a fantastic evening. Try the searsucker etiquette cocktail. While creole creamery is around the corner, the strawberry tres leches kept us at Costera for dessert and it was WORTH IT!
Matthew Janda
Went here for the first time and got the tasting menu with fiancé. My fiancé absolutely loved the food and thinks it's one of the best, if not THE BEST, dining experiences she's ever had in New Orleans. I thought the food was great but even more impressed with the service. Everyone did a great job of serving us but our main waiter, Charles, was fantastic and his recommendations for food/wines/drinks were all on point. Highly recommend.
Also, their Happy Hour is awesome.
Ross McDiarmid
Tapas, uptown with a great selection of beverages. They have done a great job in making it fun and comfortable. Enough food choices to please everyone, you will want to stay for a while.
Sensei Howell
The food was phenomenal. Everything from the appetizers/tapas to the main dishes. We ordered 5+ things off the menus and were well met with each. They presented individual and uniquely tasteful experiences.
The atmosphere, while very busy, still accomplished feeling intimate and homey.
The staff was great - personable and pleasant. They really made the experience.
I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a wonderful evening. I shall be returning as often as I'm able!
Lauren L
Fine dining without the pretentious feel! Lauren was our server and was spectacularly friendly, attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. She made great recommendations for food as well as drinks for the whole table (plus those desserts- wow! 😍). The food came out quickly and was perfect for sharing. We had a lovely experience. Will definitely be back!
Holly Girard
my husband and i are set on trying new (to us) places in nola since we moved here a year and a half ago, and this was a last minute choice one night and it was a GREAT choice. the food was unique and delicious, and the cocktails were fantastic - i can’t remember the name of the one i had, rye something. but it was lovely. in addition, the ambiance was perfect and the service was excellent. our waiter, luke, was knowledgeable and personable and overall enhanced the experience. we can’t wait to go back.
Haneen Khreis
We enjoyed this place quite a bit. Food was great, and do were cocktails and it is reasonably priced. We had the mixed roasted mushrooms, scallops and hanger steak, all very yummy.
Jacob Milam
A local gem! We went here with a group of 4 people. They have done a great job in spacing out the place for covid. We started with drinks and each of us had a different one. The bartender is great all our drinks were off menu and made great. For our food we did there tasting menu. This is one ofbthe best deals in food I have ever had! You will have more food than you will know what to do with it and even dish is spectacular it will really blow you away. For first timers this seems like the best option because it will surprise you what may be your favorite. This really is one of the best places I have been to eat especially at the price point that it is.
Joshua Grippo
Everything was wildly delicious.
Eric van Lydegraf
amazing delicious. the family tasting is best value. 3 savory rounds of 3-4 tapas per round for 3 people plus desert. service wonderful. the tapas are amazing. boquerones, shank steak puree in potatoe ball, scalaps, gulf fish, steak..mushrooms. ... on and on
Cindy Merrifield
Excellent food, great cocktails! We tried a lot of the dishes and enjoyed everything. Standouts were the scallops, hanger steak, shrimp and the pompano. Love the tapas style so you get to try a lot of different things. We will definitely be back!
Christian La Du
First time diner, sat at the bar. Had a couple really tasty berlinerweisse beers and a gently chamomile saison. Extensive wine by the bottle list, loads of Spanish varietals. Cocktails were a bit inaccessible with a lot of niche/Spanish ingredients.
Food was excellent. Had the jamon&almonds(tasty but simple), crab on creole tomato (I would've happily eaten nothing but this), scallops on creamy noodles with bacon (scallops were fine but the noodles stole the show), pork belly with white beans(mmmmhmmmmm), and tuna&green olive tapenade (very nice, salty, but relatively less impressive).
M Sims
Best covid meal experience by far. The food was insanely good. The tasting menu was really a bargain. I’m surprised it included so much food, but we all enjoyed it so much. There was more space between tables than I have seen anywhere else. And service is as still excellent unlike many other places. I couldn’t recommend more.
Joost Morsink
New place in town and is a must try. They have some unique flavors and probably the best lamb shank I ever had in my life.lots of the dishes are lemon or sour, which I love. The sharing aspect is pretty cool too (tapas style) and great for dates. We had the papas bravos, octopus, chorizo with clams, and lamb shank.
I also highly recommend the cocktails. The cortes was amazing, but our table had a variety and they all were very good!
Giselle DeDiego
The service was wonderful and very accomadating after we made a mistake with our reservation. The food was delicious. The flavor profiles of every dish were very well thought out. One of the appetizer/shared plates we had was the pork belly with a salad/slaw accompaniment. The fat and salt of the pork belly was perfectly balanced by the tangy crunchy freshness of the salad. I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant as well as the decor. I look forward to coming back the next time I'm in town. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Terry King
The Coolinary menu was fabulous...and the daiquiri was off the chain!
John R. Levine
The shishito peppers were amazing. The wine list is extensive and very good. Legit Spanish food.
Jeremy Grannan
Wasn't exactly dressed for the occasion but was treated as if we were in formal wear. I really appreciated that and it foreshadowed the kind of meal we were going to have. Service was knowledgeable, unpretentious, and pleasant. The pace of the meal perfect. The food was AWESOME! Definitely going back for that Terres Major steak again. The special sword fish done Catalonian style was spot on.
Taryn Alexandros
The tasting menu is the way to go. There is not one even mediocre dish on the menu. We went for a birthday, but will be back again very soon. A+
Brandon Boyce
Coolinary menu was excellent. We had several small plates. Highlights were the roasted salad (dill heavy) and the scallops.
Erik K
The food was delicious. Try the shrimp and the littleneck clam dishes. Order the jamon with some warm bread, it pairs nicely. Costera has a nice wine selection and a large bar area if you do not want a table. I recommend you try it out.
Michelle Sayre
Paella is fantastic. Cocktails delish. Martini's a bit small. Overall, love it.
Lin Z
Hands down the best restaurant in the city! Food is amazing, you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.service is always great, very accommodating.
Natalie Fulton
Amazing food - disappointing service. Got the Pom tamate appetizer and the beef shank balls and they were delicious!! For entrees we got the Pomado (I think?) and the lamb shank, and they were both amazing. The lamb was my favorite.
However, the service was very slow and neither of our servers were attentive. We were there for 1:45 minutes, and the last 30 minutes were waiting for the check.
I finally managed to flag down a server for the check, and still ended up waiting over 10 minutes after that.
I asked for leftovers to be boxed up - she took our leftovers and never brought them back. After waiting 15 minutes for the leftovers, we decided to leave.
Great food - slow, inattentive service. I would recommended going to Cochon over this place - the food and atmosphere are similar but Cochon has much better service.
Russell Pintado
Was very excited to visit one of our newest restaurants in NOLA, especially it being a Spanish one at that. The menu was varied with many tapas style plates, along with a few entrees. There were 3 in our party, so we ordered several tapas, and my daughter ordered the Flank steak with an order if Bravas on the side, all very well prepared. We ordered the Calamari, the Shrimp, and the Mussels with Chorizo, again everything was prepared very well. For dessert, my daughter went with the Chocolate cake with salted caramel ice cream, my only comment was the ice cream was not balanced between the salt and caramel evenly, a lot more salt than required, we also had the Coffee pana cotta, which was very good. So, why only 4 stars? In a city that is known for its friendly and courteous wait staff, I am finding more and more restaurants being staffed by people who are not identifying with those traits. This could be due to our increase in restaurants, and not having a bigger local work force, causing restaurants to hire our newest city residents, who are not exactly the friendliest. Our waitress was lacking any social Grace's, when asked if there were any off menu specials for the evening, she began to tell us, but stared out the window the whole time, not once did she give any eye contact. There never was any stable side manner that we are accustomed to. I would suggest owners / chefs discuss how important it is to have a friendly smile and a slight bit of conversation with its guests. With all that being said, I would certainly recommend Costeta to friends, and I will return also.

Great tapas

Food was great, excellent, but service was horrible. When dropping $300< on a dinner, I expect the waiter to not lose my bottle of wine (took 10min to find it), ask how the food tastes, come by at least once every 15min, and pour me the right water. Head waiter came over to apologize that out waiter was "having a bad night." The busboy did a better job than it waiter and honestly saved this from being a worse review. Seriously, busboy with pink hair needs a pay raise.
Jaelene Cumba
Amazing food, full of layers of flavor. Good drinks. Top notch service! Decor and ambiance is great, easy to have a conversation, would recommend for a date night.
Emily Grant
Excellent place for Tapas and spanish cuisine. They have an excellent wine list as well. We have ordered specific items and done the tasting menu and everything was delicious both times I have gone.
Melesa Shumate
The food was very good, as was the service. I felt a little intimidated by the menu because I was not clear on the serving sizes and was unfamiliar with the wines. The bartender tried to explain things. I will definately go back.
Stuart Donald
Creative Spanish cuisine at it's best.
Thomas Krajewski
Great shareable dishes in an incredible venue. The wait staff was top notch- as good as I've seen. Only criticism was a chewy oily artichoke dish, everything was excellent quality
Mitchell
Enjoyed everything will make it back home day soon .
Barre Rousset
Good paella, stuffed mushrooms, everything we had really. Nice atmosphere but can get kind of noisy we crowded. Staff is excellent. Would go back. Worth a try.

A new face in New Orleans, fantastic food and exceptional service! If you like Spanish small plate dishes this is the place to go. It should be on the must taste list of every traveler to the Big Easy.
Lolita Camp
The stake is always too rare? Its a otherwise the food was okay
David Graham
We live two blocks from Costera and enjoy eating and drinking there several times a month. So nice to have a restaurant of this quality so close to home .
Shannen Holahan
Order the tasting menu!! Great wine list! Also has some fun Spanish ciders on the menu that I'd recommend trying.
Karla Petrovich
Food was delicious and so were drinks.
Jose Andrade-Cora
Costera is my new favorite restaurant in New Orleans. We had Papas Bomba (potato and beef croquettes)and Gambas al Ajillo (shrimp in garlic sauce) as openers. The croquettes were flavorful, accented by the romesco sauce. The shrimp were huge and fresh and not overpowered by the garlic. These are all tapas and made for sharing. We then got serious and ordered an octopus salad and "Pompano a la plancha" (pan seared fish with an olive dressing). The octopus was well-made but quite a small portion. The Pompano was a much more generous serving and delicious as well. Service was friendly and attentive. We will definitely return!

This place is phenomenal! Great drinks and atmosphere, and the tasting menu is perfect for anyone wanting to try the majority of the menu!
Benina Lopez
Their tapas are great and so is the service. Very attentive staff. I recommend going with a foodie group so you can try a little bit of everything. The roasted mushrooms are my fave!
Miguel Pascale
The food was excellent, however I thought the menu was limited, they should add Tortilla at a minimum.
Casey Fletcher
delicious dining experience. Loved that it is something different from what you get at most new Orleans restaurants. Unique menu with a lot of great sharables. Definitely recommend!!
Bobby Hill
This restaurant is the Spanish star of the south! Loved every single thing I tried and I tried a lot. Service is amazing, drinks are great. Can't wait to come back.
Christopher Flurry
This is possibly one of the best restaurants in New Orleans. Even though its hidden away in uptown it always manages to attract a crowd on weekends, so I'd recommend reservations on Friday or Saturday night.

I love tappas and this gem is not a secret but tucked quaintly on Prytania in Uptown. The calamari is a big hit. My wife is actually talking about the calamari. Others to try are tge mushroons, sweetbreads, scallops, and peppers. Delish! Great friendly attentive service in a lovely atmosphere. You will have to place on your list and see for yourself. Too involved with tasting...no pics necessary. 😊
Nick Stahlman
Amazing experience. Went on a date night and found this spot on a whim. Super impressed. Outstanding atmosphere and food, great wait staff. We will 100% be back
Geoff Marsh
The beer battered catfish sandwich with coleslaw on it was delicious! I’ve had a lot of beer battered fish and this ranks up with some of the best. The coleslaw on the sandwich made it perfect.
Paul Rivait
I didn't know you could combine elegant and casual in the same restaurant. Costera's does just that. The food is sensational, the service is first class. You have to go there.
Michael Cohn
Wonderful and delicious selection of small and large plates. Not all items were 'safe' and we stuck mostly to the small plates. My favorites were the clams and the octopus.

Costera offered creative small plates and cocktails that we enjoyed sharing! The broccoli, beets and gulf fish with seasoned winter vegetables were particularly delicious. Many dishes had a jalapeño kick to them.
The large Costera G&T was as yummy as it was pretty.
Would definitely recommend for a nice meal out or date night.
