Reviews of Coop's Place
Megan Marohn
Granted we visited Coop's Place during the weekend of the Final 4 in New Orleans; however, it wasn't their service that left a bad taste in my mouth.
Our first server was friendly and efficient. Her replacement, not so much.
We sat at the bar because the small place was packed. I ordered the Coop's Sampler platter which had a bit of everything - jambalaya, fried chicken, gumbo, red beans and rice, and sausage and rabbit. My hubby ordered the red beans & rice and sausage.
The gumbo came out first and it was delicious and warm-spicy. When my sampler platter came out, the only thing I could identify was the fried chicken. This was my main complaint - it was a big giant hodge-podge of food, that all tasted exactly the same - a giant plate of over spiced Cajun seasoned stuff. I couldn't eat much because it also became mushier the longer it sat there. Also because of the dark restaurant interior I just couldn't tell if the chicken had been cooked completely, so I was hesitant to enjoy it.
On the other hand, my hubby's plate with just red beans & rice, and sausage was yummy, with distinct flavors and textures.
Coop's place food wasn't bad, just indistinct and mono-chromatic.

Cannot recommend enough! This place was packed and it's obvious why! The servers were fun and funny, the smells and sounds were enticing, and it's all because of the FOOD!!! We all agreed it was the best meal we've had in NOLA. The fried chicken cannot be beat, the shrimp creole was mouthwatering, and the gumbo and jambalaya were amazing. They even accommodated our vegetarian friend with a veggie creole that wasn't listed on the menu! Every single dish was a generous portion at a reasonable price and SO MUCH FLAVOR! We will definitely be back!! Only thing I wish was that I could've bought a t shirt or something! The staff shirts were funny and I would totally wear them!

Hole in the wall place where the food and service were great! Try the BBQ shrimp, one of the best in the French Quarters. Go at an off time weekdays 11 am to 3 pm as this little place will fill up quickly!

We were on our honeymoon and had so much great food in NOLA and we were hanging out in the French Quarter the last few nights. We had taken a food tour the day prior and had asked the guide his favorite spot tomeat that wasn't a tourist trap. Coops was the first word out of his mouth.
Walking in you might not think it's a great place to eat, but don't let that fool you. It's phenomenal! There are so many delicious items to choose from, and we thought it had some.of the best gumbo we had on the whole trip.
If you are looking for a hole in the wall gem, Coops is the place!

Stopped in here late Saturday night to meet up with a friend and was not disappointed. Small, dive-y looking place, but full of character and flavor. I got the 2 piece fried chicken with rabbit jambalaya and sausage and it's the best fried chicken I've ever had in my life - succulent, full of flavor, great crispy skin, and the jambalaya was super flavorful as well. All the prices were super reasonable too. I can't speak for any of the drinks, as we only had water, but I wouldn't mind trying some next time. We had to wait in line outside for a bit, but it was definitely worth it. Just don't expect to get a table right away if you show up late in the evening. Can't wait to visit NOLA again just to eat here a second time.

We ordered the creole shrimp, duck quesadillas and gumbo. This was the best restaurant I had in NOLA. At first you’d probably doubt you’re at the right place, the interior design and vibe was dingy, but we can’t judge the book on its cover. The food here was fantastic. I had gumbo for the very first time. I tried the other place after but it’s not as good as this one. I’m also a fan of the creole shrimp. Good amount of rice and seasoning.
Gordon Wescoat
Great food with great friends. I highly suggest you make a visit. We were hungry so started eating before I remember to take a picture. Hope we didn't make too much of a mess of it, but it was good!

Roadfood.com comes through again, with a Legendary rating that proves delightfully true. Great Cajun food and local drinks. Music from our generation. And not just Baby Boom duffers enjoying it- there was a wide variety of people relaxing in there.
Wandering Chopstick
I always make it a point to recommend or eat here when I am in the area. Their jambalaya is one of my favorites as it’s the only one that does it with rabbit. The Cajun fried chicken was perfectly seasoned and super crispy.
It’s a small local dive and gets loud. The best local hot spot in NOLA.
Nefetiti1
Fantastic Fried Chicken and a warm welcome
Despite my aim to visit as many eateries as possible, the food here was so good that we returned on three occassions. The food is of a high standard, no nonsense but friendly staff, no request was too much. The chicken was gorgeous as was the jambalaya. The atmosphere is welcoming. I will be back
Stephanie Simpson
We stopped in on a recommendation from our tour guide. Tried a small bowl of the gumbo and a small bowl of jambalaya. Both are excellent. The service wasn't overly friendly, but that's not why we went. Best jambalaya we found while we were in NOLA
Fiona
Was lured in by their posted menu, only wish I was hungrier at the time. Tried the signature dish, Gumbo. Not disappointed. Want to go back to try the duck quesadilla.
Staff was welcoming. Old tavern feel. Good prices.
Genevieve Banks
Fantastic service from Damian! Super friendly and gave excellent recommendations for other activities/eateries. We had the rabbit and sausage jambalaya with fried chicken. The chicken was delicious and would of liked a bigger portion of jambalaya! This felt like an authentic New Orleans dive bar and would go back.
Craig Turner
Absolutely, loved this bar. Food was amazing!! Our hostess, Stephanie, was down to earth and was pure joy!! Can't forget about PeeWee, we enjoyed his personality and service. High recommended for true authentic food and feel!!
Rachel C
Best Jambalaya ever!!! I went to Coop’s Place for lunch and got their “Jambalaya with Shrimp” plate. It was extremely delicious!!! I also had the “Smoke Chicken soup” with corn, jalapeño and sweet potato! Lady working behind the bar was very friendly. This is a must try if you’re visiting NOLA!
Brandy Sedden
Most amazing fried chicken I’ve ever had. Reminded me of my great grandmother’s. First time trying jambalaya with rabbit. It was delicious!
Tim
GET THE REDFISH!!! They will tell you the best thing on the menu is the fried chicken - I’m not saying they’re lying but I don’t see how it could be better than the redfish. Start with a cup of gumbo and then dive into the spicy seasoned blackened redfish. The green beans - I don’t like green beans - were incredible. Cooked with bacon and they’re own secret seasoning - it’s a home run. I didn’t try the fried chicken but it came highly recommended. It’s a small place so be aware that it may fill at popular times. Nonetheless, if you have the time to drop in for a drink or a meal, it’s a must stop.
Rick Mendoza
We were out and about visiting from Chicago and looking for some food. I searched up the best chicken in NOLA and Coop popped up. I thank the heavens we found this place. I must say they have the best chicken I have ever had. It’s not just the chicken that’s great but the people that work there make it so much better. We got to meet Pee Wee, Judah and Trista… Let me tell you those three people are amazing!! It felt like family!! I will not only be back but I will tell the world about my time there and how much I loved everything about them.
Melissa Schertz
Coops! Amazing! Fun! Delicious! Always one of our first stops when we are in town. Wish we lived closer so we could visit more often! Fried chicken and jambalaya is one of the best in the Quarter. Go! Enjoy!
Bruce Rivera
Solid food in a small hometown new orleans vibe. Bartender was great, waitress on the floor was rude and questioned why I was taking photos and told me i couldn't take anymore photos ..... go figure. But the food was good and a solid place to check oit.
Dawn Christon
Delicious food, super fast service. Got the platter with rabbit Jambalaya, seafood gumbo, fried chicken, red beans & rice and shrimp creole. Jambalaya, gumbo and fried chicken were the best we had. Pricing was all reasonable too.
Bearly Cake
This place is amazing! The best green beans I've ever eaten. The fried chicken was perfect. The red beans and rice were perfectly seasoned and delicious. This is really the best food I've ever eaten. The atmosphere was exactly what you expect from New Orleans.
Chris Lucien
We were visiting on our honeymoon and this place was suggested to us by our Lyft driver. I must say, he was spot on in saying they had the best fried chicken of all time. We are from Kentucky and have tried a lot of recipes but this place truly takes the cake. We ate at numerous high end restaurants during our trip but this meal was both of our favorites! Thank you
Caroline Bartlett
My friends and I stopped in Coop's randomly walking by for a late dinner on a friday night. This was the best stumble ever. The waiter Bob was so fun! He said we couldn't have our phones out, had to do one check, and told us to trust his menu advice. He went through process of elimination to help us chose our meals (rice or pasta, tomatoes or cream, etc), brought us our super fast, and made us laugh a lot! We had so much fun we returned again for dinner two nights later. Bob wasn't there so Adrian was our server and he was just as fun! We got there with perfect timing because a giant line formed outside while we were eating. Their food is SO good you basically can't go wrong. I'll be back next time I'm in town for sure.
Marko
A typical and simple, but also delicious, Cajun restaurant. It's not to be missed if you want to experience a really no-frills local dinner of gumbo or jambalaya.
Teresa Chou
OMG! This is the best place in our trip! Everything we ordered was just beyond our expectations especially after we’ve tried and fault from those famous tourist’ places: Ed’s, croc hotdog…
Nice bar, nice service(cool servers), nice food!
Rahul Hk
Had the Cajun fried chicken and the fried shrimp po’ boy for lunch. Was extremely tasty, and considering the great vibe of the place, I can easily recommend this place for anyone who wishes to have a good time and eat good food!
jeremiah barr
An amazing little hole in the wall French quarter bar and eatery. Tight quarters with no frills atmosphere. The food was spot on from the fried chicken, red beans and rice, and the giant poboys. Worth a trip for a beer and a meal. Try the house made honey mustard it is amazing.
Joe Messervy
Food was great and wait wasn't too long for a Friday. This place is no nonsense. Don't come in and try to wait inside. Head to the back of the line. Great food and a solid soundtrack of rock n roll awaits. Food is excellent just like the city.
Emma Vilagos
Fantastic food, huge portion! It is hot in here and cramped, we sat at the bar but it feels like a dive bar, which I liked. Bathroom isn't the best, but that's fine, the food and service made up for the temperature and bathroom.
Van Mathews
The fried chicken is great! The rabbit jambalaya is very veeeery good as well!
Plate comes with a great coleslaw.
Here’s a little picture of it! =)
(Not my best picture)
Van N
Don't let the divey appearance fool you, the food and service here are great. Definitely get the fried chicken - it's perfectly fried and seasoned.
Jdel
When in NOLA you must stop in and have a bite to eat at COOP’s Place. The service is outstanding and the fried chicken 🍗 is banging., red beans and rice the best in town. I will mention the cold beer and drinks. On time with the budget too. …
Mariko Riffle
We went there for fried chicken as I saw some good reviews, and we are glad we did try this place. When we entered the place, we weren't sure if we came to the right place for good food since it had more of a bar atmosphere. We were impressed with the food quality and flavorfulness. One of the best fried chicken we've ever had, so juicy and well seasoned and fried to perfection. Coop's Place is definitely a repeat for us! We saw some other food that were served to different customers and they also looked amazing. The presentation of the food was more professional and gourmet looking than some of other restaurants that charges double or triple of what they serve here.
Keith J.P.
Coop’s was busy for a Thursday night but we got seats at the bar. It’s a dive bar but fun to be there with locals. The servers were nice and graciously explained a lot of their dishes. The fried chicken cannot be beat, BBQ shrimp was the special and delicious. The food and flavor were spot-on. Definitely a place to hit up on our next trip.
Alyssa K
Average meal. I’ve had better fried chicken - it was way too dry and I barely finished my meal. Do note that they aren’t able to split checks.
Robert Stewart
Do not visit NOLA without going here! Best food in town. The fried chicken will blow your mind! Try the bloody Mary. Buy a cookbook. I can't say enough about the super friendly bartender and staff!
D Day o' reckoning
Great place, excellent service, and wonderful food. Get the rabbit sausage jambalaya and the etouffee (it's FILLED with plenty of shrimp and crawfish. To die for!!!!
brent retherford
Had 2 local beers, Giant Fried Mushrooms, and Crawfish/shrimp PO boy with coleslaw. It was all fantastic. 2nd time here. Definitely visit again.
Tom Catyb
Love hole in the walls like this.
Food was all surprisingly. Drinks were good, no dessert menu. Restroom clean, but the room approaching it is not pretty
Kasia
Awesome place!
The waiter (Bob) told us to trust him and we did. Ask to be seated with him- he is absolutely awesome! We got the red beans and rice with Cajun fried chicken and the sampler platter! The gumbo was perfect- super spicy! The Cajun fried chicken is hands down the best fried chicken we have ever had anywhere! Get the fried Cajun chicken! You will love it! Get extra- order it all- take it to go! Just amazing!
Also quick update to the review: in 6 nights, we were there 3 times! That's how great the chicken is!
Casey Johnson
Great hole-in-the-wall joint for some of the best creole staples...plus a duck quesadilla that will surprise you!
Curly Crossley
I came here at the behest of Google, I was not disappointed. This is the best fried chicken I've ever had. Not the best Cajun fried chicken. Not the best in New Orleans or Louisiana. This is the best Fried Chicken I've ever had. Crunchy, seasoned so well, juicy and tender! The rabbit and sausage jambalaya was also fantastic, lots of flavor and just enough spice. Highly recommend. Trista was my server and she was busy but so nice and helpful. 10/10 would recommend.
Robert Long
Great food - get the chicken/jambalaya combo plate - arguably their two best dishes. This is not a fancy place, and not too big, so there may be a wait but these two dishes are worth the wait. The crab filled poppers, also excellent. Enjoy!
Wineguy71
Great food and service. Awesome local place. Friendly staff. Pricing was beyond reasonable. Definitely a hidden gem.
Chris Flanigan
Coop's is always a great meal. This time my wife and I both got red beans and rice with fried chicken. So good.
Oh, we got a couple of house salads too - good, but some questionable knife-work.
Be aware, this place fills up fast. But, tables turn pretty quickly so we've never had to wait long.
Until next time... (and there will be a next time).
Angela Hill
The waitress Stefanie is absolutely awesome!!! She needs to go around and train every waitress in every restaurant. Her energy is amazing! It's a small place, the food looks great!!
Becca Scamardo
Went here for dinner last night on my Honeymoon. Amazing food and amazing service! Marissa was the best! My husband and I enjoyed the good company! He had the Red Beans and Rice with sausage and it was delicious! I had the Chicken Tchoupitoulas and it was perfectly spicy and delicious! I would highly recommend!
Chris Kastroll
Bob is easily the best waiter I’ve ever had. Most fun dining experience one could wish to have. And that’s not to mention the food. It melted in my mouth. I’m confident that you won’t find a better restaurant in NOLA and quite possibly the US. In conclusion, Bob is a saint.
D Sharpe
Line moves fast (10 mins). Grabbed dinner at the bar. This place has a cool vibe and the food was good. Jalapeno and crab poppers with horseradish dip was very good. Place is small and intimate and can get a little loud at times. Service was good just not enough check-ins, only one person working the bar.
Kevin Menendez
Made it this way once more with husband an other family. Early dinner 4:00 pm. I ordered the Duck quasadilla, not as stuffed as I thought, there was a sauce that tasted like an orange marmalade was laid on too much. I had the seafood gumbo. Well seasoned, my husband had fried chicken and noted chicken was seasoned well not salty, which is a usual in Houston. The staff is super
attentive. We even got to meet the head cook, Shawn David Menendez. Overall my friends enjoyed everything.
Michael Sheridan
I went here with a friend for lunch. We each got the Cajun Chicken with the jambalaya and coleslaw. The waitress who took care of us was lovely (I wish I remembered her name, whoever was working at 2pm on Monday) and brought a great energy to the place. I loved the chicken. The coleslaw was creamy (the way I like it) and I was glad this was my first place to try jambalaya.
Stephen Ashley
Phenomenal food, fun time. Great crew working.
We had multiple selections from the menu and would recommend any of them to try.
Netanya Roden
21+ only. Smelled strongly of weed inside. The food was great! 👍🏻
Emily Haney
Prices for the food are really good. I got the “taste plate” which is a sampler of 4 different authentic dishes for $18, which seemed pretty affordable for the quality and quantity of the food. It’s definitely a dive-bar type place and it’s a bit cramped and crowded inside but if you don’t mind that vibe, you’ll really enjoy this place! My only warning is to bring some Tums with you because the spice level in all of the dishes was pretty extreme (and I like spicy foods).
Leah H.R.
Best fried chicken I’ve ever had. And the jambalaya was sensational also. Awesome bartender and great vibes - welcoming neighborhood joint that feels like it’s been there forever and falling apart in that well-loved kind of way. Tiny but mighty.
Martin Bryant
One of our tour guides told us about this place and we decided to go. The food here was as good as anywhere we ate in the city and the local beer didn't disappoint either. It's a small place with a small, boisterous staff tucked away in the French Quarter. After dining you can walk a couple of blocks to Frenchman Street in one direction or Jackson Square in the other.
Ludmila Porto
There is always a line, so follow the line... Great surprise in the French Quarter! I came here recommended by a friend and I almost gave up waiting because of the line and one of the attendants was rude with another customer in line. I am glad I decided to stay, because everything was delicious, and the price is really fair. We ordered fried crawfish, blackened fish, and shrimp creole. Everything was delicious, I will definitely come back for the gumbo.
Rose
I would’ve given this place 5 stars based off food and the person who served us. I enjoyed the jambalaya lots as the place was recommended to us. I’m giving a 4 due to ambiance, I did not enjoy one of the servers whose voice is raspy and loud. We all heard his complaints. He was loudly complaining about the the lack of customers tipping.I thought that was unprofessional, tipping is not a right, simply a custom, this is coming from a person who worked hospitality for years. I imagine it could be something to do with their approach. Overall dinner was good.
Justin Miller
Dive bar at it's finest. The food is amazing. Get the Coop's Taste Plate for a nice variety of amazing cajun food. The fried chicken was cooked and seasoned to perfection. We had food in a fancy restaurant (which I won't name) that was 2-3x the price and wasn't half as good.
Liz Avendano
The food is full of flavor the gumbo had green onions on top and spices mostly tasted of clove The chicken was really good very crispy with no fatty soggy skin It was my favorite food I tried while in New Orleans. The atmosphere was chill people in costumes having fun . The restroom was kinda cool it looked funny with stickers all over the door.
Donald hood
It was a while ago I was here for supper when I had a night to kill before catching a flight home the next morning. The restaurant is small but had no problem finding a place to sit. The lighting was dimmer than most restaurants but didn’t effect much. The service here was good and friendly staff. We enjoyed all our food here.
Amber Teel
My father in law recommended Coop’s Place. He told my husband and I that we had to try their Cajun fried chicken. Of course fried chicken is the last thing you think about trying while in NOLA, but it was soooooo good! Probably the best fried chicken I’ve every had.
T. Kush
Awesome service, amazing food. Highly recommend the getting a combination plate, so yummy!!
Aaron Gagner
(Aaron's wife here).. thank you for an authentic NOLA experience and food I can't wait to try to make at home here in WI. And, all the gold stars for kindly convincing him to get something besides a burger, although now he's comparing my chicken to yours.. and I'm a little short 😅❤❤❤
Will definitely come see yall again our next visit!
Mara Ellis
People need a life, and humor. Unplug whats wrong with that? Mother/Bob I commend you! Outstanding food and if it weren't, the service made it all the better. Don't be stuck up in Nola, why visit? Go back OR get a life! A++++ time love it!
kristi graves
We've been going for years and years. Now there's a line sometimes but their dark gumbo and really well seasoned perfectly fried chicken with creamy red ears is always good. We really like the staff too!
Brent B
Excellent food. Don't let the "dive atmosphere" scare you off. On DDD, this would definitely be a dive, but worth experiencing. The Sausage Rabbit jambalaya is excellent. Get the large serving, you can thank me later. If I could give it more stars, I would.
Melissa “Missy” Ashton-Ruoff
True New Orleans food. It's got the kick and everything. Not bland like the restaurants trying to appease weak tourists taste buds.
Justin Ashley
THIS PLACE RULES. The staff was effing awesome! The food slapped you in the face with flavor. The small pub vibe is what was needed. Slightly off the beaten path but a definite New Orleans stop for us from here out. 5 out of 5. Clean, cool, and food was TOP NOTCH. Get the gumbo! Try the chicken.......scratch that. Try the whole menu.
Shawn Bowers
I was recommended this place by a friend and I'm so glad. The food was delicious, tons of flavor. It was exactly what I was looking for in a New Orleans experience. I had the rabbit and sausage jambalaya along side the seafood gumbo.
Jurgen Schrodl
We really enjoyed this place. Super friendly service with a little dive bar feel.
The food was delicious. Jambalaya was super flavourful and so was the fried chicken
Great Sazerac as well
Heather MacC
A perfect local's joint for food and ambiance. We had locally brewed beers and some delicious Nola classics. Definitely recommend the gumbo and the fried sampler platter 🤤
Danny Boy
This is a local and now a Carolina Favorite. Excellent food, FUN, great service and good Ole southern hospitality.
Christopher Weller
This small and somewhat unassuming looking place had some of the most amazing food and drinks I had during my visit to NOLA. The service was also top notch, despite the staffing being somewhat short that evening. The jambalaya is a must try!
Brian Andrews
Jambalaya was unbelievable. Meat/rice ratio was perfect. Spice level, perfect. 4 absolutely delicious meals. Total dive bar, don't dress up.
Derrick Solorio
Coworker recommended, absolute 🔥🔥.
Parking limited, but worth circling the block.
Had the rabbit jambalaya, crab claws , and a very good house drink(coop's punch).
Small restaurant with good vibes
Bob Flaherty
Divey bar with exceptional food. Exceptional!
Great service - awesome personalities! Blackened Redfish and Gumbo are top notch. Trust the staff to tell you about the house specialties.
Krista Anderson
Great experience at Coops. Traditional Creole menu. The service was even better with super friendly and welcoming servers. Fun, casual atmosphere. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone in NOLA.
R Turer
Bold, jointy place. Have been going for 20 years. Must have ID even if 80 to imbibe (they don't even want to seat you if not!). 15$ entrees. No kidding. Flavors and portions amazing. They may yell at you a bit but out of love, I'm sure. Not for the timid (tight, sometimes a wait). Eat at bar. And act like you've been there before. They like bold back.
Neil Offner
Incredible food at a price you’ll love. I love this place and will be back when I next visit.
The staff have a direct, blunt, and a bit aggressive approach to serving you but I enjoyed the schtick quite a lot. Our server was super honest with us about what to focus on on the menu and boy did we have some amazing food.
Apps: The crab stuffed jalapeño poppers were a hit. The duck quesadilla was decent and the only dish I didn’t truly LOVE.
Entrees: The Etoufee and the Seafood Cajun Pasta were phenomenal!!! The Chicken Tchoupitoulas was also really delicious!
I loved the casual, dive bar vibe. Paired with the amazing food, I can’t wait until my next visit!
Jade Pod
Not to be dramatic, but this place has the best jambalaya I've ever had. I got the supreme which include many meats like rabbit, crawfish, and sausage. We were literally moaning when eating it! The only downside was the rice was a little mushy, but we didn't mind at all. We did takeout which took about 15 minutes and you have to be 21+ to enter.
Laura A. Koons-Boswell, REALTOR
Solid, go-to dive bar. Fried mushrooms were huge and extremely fresh. Cajun fried chicken was tha bomb and deliciously spicy. Service was friendly and attentive. Can't go wrong!
Albert Lam
Had their signature combo dish and the shrimp etouffee and both were delicious! The waiter was hilarious and helped us pick the best dishes on the menu
Jamie Bernard
A staple in New Orleans for a reason. Surprisingly the Duck Quesadilla was what stole my heart, but the the Coop Sampler plates lets you have a bit of every Creole favorite. The only thing that I didn't like was that it closed the last two days i was there and didn't get to try the shrimp that came highly recommended!!
Cher Couvillion Wilson
So glad this place opened back! Our "go to" in Nola! I love the Shrimp Creole! Yum Poboys! And, where can you get a $5 glass of Merlot?
She M
Good food, great atmosphere, helpful bartender. Liked Coop's Place alot!
Lang Nguyen
I was wondering why there was a line here and after going in and eating here, I have to say it was worth the wait! The jambalaya was delicious, the fried chicken was delicious, the etouffee was delicious, etc... We had talked to some of the guys in line and they were recommending the blackened fish, but my stomach couldn't hold everything that was mentioned so we went with the taste of New Orleans. Definitely would recommend the place and yes the wait is worth it!
Erik Harris
Very good food, great atmosphere, and great wait staff
Nikki Duggan
We went to Coops as it came highly recommended by a taxi drive we had, and I’m very glad we did. Our host who sat us was so much fun, a very funny guy. It was a very busy time so my friend and I were sat along with another two groups of two. The wait staff were great and the food was amazing! Be warned the platters are too big for even two people, bring a big appetite or bring your leftovers home!!
Canh Tran
Supreme Jambalaya was excellent, best I’ve ever had. It was spicy by default and good enough to give it a strong kick without making a person with average tolerance cry. The bbq was a bit too salty but otherwise pretty good overall.
Andrina Stewart
So yummy!! I had the BBQ shrimp and I practically drinking the leftover sauce out of the bowl! Thankfully the server kept bringing us more bread to soak it up and eat it! The marinated crab claws we're amazing too. With $5 Wells and great food I will definitely be returning to this neighborhood joint!
Melissa Patrick
We were hesitant about this place as it looks like it’s just another bar in the French Quarter, but this place puts out some serious food! We arrived right before they got really busy for lunch. It was around 11:30 on a Thursday. Service was great, drinks came right away, and the server gave us good tips on what to order. We got a few of the best appetizers and shared. Highly recommend. We will be back!
Drea
Definitely a small place and it gets busy. We were there about 11:30 a.m. and there was a like for seating (they opened at 11). But the food was good. I recommend the duck quesadilla! It didn't have the heavy fat flavor people associate with duck and it was delicious! The chicken was good too! Worth a stop if you are being a tourist!
Richard “Swave MasterBoom” Furst
The best damn food in all of New Orleans. If you've only got time for one meal during your trip to the big easy be sure to stop in and grab a bite to eat at coops
Katie Lecoq
Cool, historic location. Great Cajun food. I think we got the ettouffee, the rabbit and sausage jambalaya and the crawfish appetizer.
This place is well recommended by locals, so you know it's good and authentic !

This place was recommended by our local tour guide, and he suggested Jambalaya. I tried it and it was great. The supreme Jambalaya has the portion for an adult at price around 12. I also tried the fried chicken: it was the best one I ever had in the United states. The chicken skin is crisp while the meat is juicy and tender. The flavor is just right.
The place is a little taunted for me: the aged building brought some wet smell. But, it was chic in others eyes. Anyway, for the food it offers, you need to accept it

Typical laid back bar. Good vibes and very good food! I had the Jambalaya supreme. Talk about flavour. It was fantastic. My Girlfriend had the fried crawfish po boy. It was fantastic as well. Very generous with the amount of seafood. We split a cup of gumbo and it was very good also. Great spot to hit for a classic New Orleans lunch!
Lindsey Carrick
Amazing food. The place is pretty divey but the food is so. So. Good.
We ordered the mojito which had tons of fresh mint leaves, the crabmeat stuffed jalapeños which were really good and spicy. Then we got the shrimp jambalaya and Cajun seafood pasta. We both like the Cajun seafood pasta better but we aren’t big fans of seafood in red sauce.
This was recommended by 3 different locals and the pricing was fair compared to other restaurants in the area.

Oh my God!! Coop's blew our minds!!! I still smack my lips every time I remember the food we had at Coop's!! So much love for this restaurant!! Being tourists, we tried jambalaya in many restaurants of NOLA and this was by far our favorite!
The first time we went to this restaurant, our hopes quickly rose when we saw a long queue outside the restaurant even though it was off season in NOLA. And eventually we were welcomed in to this loud obnoxious cool bar/restaurant and from the get go, we loved everything we ate here.
Teresa Bruno
Delicious, well-seasoned jambalaya, red beans and rice and fried chicken. Generous bar pour and considerate servers!
Reuben De Almeida
A wild experience! The waiters had a great boisterous-like nature, but it was all part of the charm. I had the Coop's Taste plate, and everything was excellent. Came with seafood gumbo, jambalaya, fried chicken, red bean and rice...
Matt Ricketts
Really really good Cajun food. And fantastic service too. I went with the 2 prefer fried chicken with jambalaya and coleslaw. The chicken was perfectly breaded and fried. The slaw and jambalaya was great independently, and even better mixing them together.
Owen Matthews
The taste dish was outstanding, the service friendly and fun. To get all the great tasting local dishes gumbo etc. In one meal is an absolute must for any tourist. Outstanding flavours, quick service a heart warming feed.
El Viejo
It's a quaint little place with excellent food and drinks. They love their Saints as every TV had the ball game on. The lady waiting on us and the serving staff were very good as well. I'd revisit if the opportunity presents itself.
Demetrios Manos
Great joint if you're looking for good food and friendly staff. I had the pasta jambalaya and it was delicious and savoury. The smoked duck quesadilla appetizer was definitely smokey flavoured and the large fried mushrooms were tasty, especially the horseradish dip that it came with. If you run into the server that hails from Buffalo, be prepared to listen to a few stories.

Dropped in to Coop's Place for dinner tonight. We shared the fried okra app and I had the Pasta Jambalaya. Delicious and spicy! Staff not very attentive once our food arrived. Couldn't get him to stop for a drink refill while my mouth burned from the food. I don't get too hung up on stuff like that and overall we liked it. Cool little dive in the French Quarter.
Harlan Doherty
Coops place was amazing. We shared a large tabe with a party of 6, ordered the taster and had a delicious tour of the south. They offered gumbo, fried chicken, & red beans and rice. The combination was awesome. Lots if spice and lots of flavor. By far my most memorable meal in NOLA.
Drita D'Alessandro
There was a line up out the door to get to this place, well worth the wait though. Be prepared though, you don't just wait outside, once inside it took 25 min before our order was able to be taken.
Again, I thought it was well worth the wait. Everything we ordered was delicious, the Jambalaya, Fried Okra, and Poor Boy were yummy.
But the best thing on the menu is the Lamb Ribs with Pepper Jelly! Absolutely phenomenal! We ordered a second plate even though we were stuffed, we just couldn't stop eating them.
Waitress was also the barkeep. She was not happy with us ordering mixed drinks. She was kinda judgemental about my friend getting a "girly drink," but right after making a comment on it, she obviously felt bad and went out of her way to make it right away even though she had another party to serve.
All in all, deff worth the wait, and would love to come back for those delicious Lamb Ribs!
Rose Perez
My meal was DELICIOUS!! We were promptly seated. Place is REALLY small but intimate. The Shrimp Creole and Red beans and rice with pork chop were fantastic! I'd come back!
UPDATE - we loved the food so much, we did come back the second night and the food did not disappoint. He got the Fried Chicken, i went with the red beans & rice with Andouille sausage - My Food Baby is STILL craving that dinner and its been 2 weeks.
Miguel Villanueva
Great Cajun chicken and jambalaya. The pork chops with rice and beans was good as well. My wife loved the lamb chops. We had to sit at the bar. The place was full so their were no tables. After over an hour sitting on wooden high chairs it was time to leave.
Jeff Spicoli
I stumbled into a place 5 years ago and had a phenomenal meal. Since I moved to Nola I’ve been meaning to get to coops. When I stumbled in today I realized Coops was that place 5 years ago. Today I had another phenomenal meal. A fried shrimp sandwich that gives verti mart a real real good run for the money. I normally don’t do specials but the peppered red fish soup was soooooo good. Coops is a classic for good reason. Please forgive the pictures but I refuse to use flash in low light restaurants haha. 2 thumbs way up.

We actually came here twice as not only the food was great but the service and the ambient was amazing.
The first night we just passing by and with found out about the place on Google Maps, having a great rating we decided to try it out and was great.
After ordering the waiter came along and explain to us what we actually ordered and after a little chat she understood why we ordered what we order and make a couple of suggestions that were on point, so we ended enjoying even better the food.
If you usually like to try out beers you maybe know the Abita Brand from New Orleans, thanks God in this place you can enjoy some Abita at a great price, and steal if you ask me.
The second night we came back for more as the Jambalaya was too good for just a taste, we end up ordering some plates and the service was as helpful and explendive as the day before, so I highly recommend this place if you are visiting NOLA and like to taste the local cusine.
Keith M
Went here twice during our 5 day stay. It looks like a dump when you walk in, but don't let that discourage you from going in. The place is clean, even the restrooms. The food is delicious. The staff is friendly. The prices are fair and worth it.
It can get loud inside during crowded times.
I wasn't used to the delicious, spicy Tasso sauce so I payed for it later ha ha.
Highly recommend stopping in.
Annee Pham
Must be 21 years & older to enter. Great "hole in the wall" vibe. Heard of this place through researching for places to eat in New Orleans and they are known for their rabbit & sausage jambalaya! Of course, hub ordered the supreme version of this jambalaya which meant extra seafood. We started with the smoked duck quesadilla which was amazing. And I got the seafood gumbo with extra seafood. All dishes were so well seasoned and lived up to the hype! You must stop by if you are in the area, you won't be disappointed!
Polina Osipova
So much fun! Excellent food, fair prices. LONG line but it moves and the experience is so worth the wait. However, if you have no sense of humor and easily offended/seeking opportunities to get offended, do not come here and let others enjoy this place instead. All the previous comments about the waiters being too much are a joke. The guy we had - Bob, made our night. While extremely attentive, he did keep the character and was very, very entertaining to our group. Thank you for a fantastic night!
Chip T
Great place. Food selection was fine with seafood and southern and New Orleans. Service was above great.
Carol Hutchison
Funky place to get great Jambalaya! Sometimes there are long lines so get there early. No reservations, first come first served. Bar is great to meet locals and tourist alike.
Kirtika Adams
Definitely a dive location but food was beyond phenomenal and service was great. We (husband and I) were in New Orleans for 5 days and this place was the only location that made a good hurricane (drink). The duck quesadilla, the seafood gumbo and the rabbit jambalaya are all a must try!!! I'd love to come back again!!! Can't remember the name of the lady that served us, but she was friendly and great. Overall, fast service with good quality (not fast food), great food, and very attentive customer service.
Christian Linares
Very cute dive looking bar with awesome vintage look. Everything we ordered was great and very spicy. Make sure and try the Jambalaya! The waiters were sarcastic but we loved that. It’s very small inside and can get quite crowded but def worth checking out!
Ron Rhodes
Good fried chicken....red beans and rice was kinda bland....wife would not eat shrimp had an ammonia smell and taste.
Ivan Gomez
When I lived in New Orleans I would eat here all the time. When I visit I always stop in. Don't let the looks fool you, this is true 5 star Cajun and Southern food. The best in the quarter!
avinash shantaram
Amazing good with great service from the bartender . Highlights were definitely he BBQ shrimp (best we had in NO) and the soft shell crab pasta . The fried chicken was likely my least favourite but the jambalaya it came with was spicy and delicious
Mathieu Coquelet Ruiz
I am not kidding when I say that this is the *best* fried chicken I ever had in my life. We order three courses with my wife, and all were mind blowing-ly delicious. It is the best food we had in NOLA, hands down.
Jessica Dow
Wait for a table if needed. Trust the waiter/man in charge. We got the Taste Plate and the suggested extra cup of gumbo and extra piece of fried chicken so we "wouldn't fight over it." Best Gumbo & Jambalaya of the weekend HANDS DOWN. Chicken was incredible, too.
Dhivya R
Went there during the new year . Super crowded , but totally worth the wait. Delicious traditional Cajun food . Pay a visit to taste the yummy food. Best gumbo and friend chicken . The place is not expensive and they have vegetarian options too .
Frost JC
The best Jambalaya and cajun fried chicken Ive had. Worth the wait but the size isn't that big, prob get 2 if you are really hungry.
William O'Hara
Gumbo? Superior
Service? Superb
Fried chicken? The best I've ever had.
Adam Zeird
Amazing food. The Cajun fried chicken is incredible and as long as you can handle the spice, the seafood gumbo is a must have. On top of the great food, the staff was incredible. Mel took great care of us and made sure we were completely happy. Will definitely be back any time I come to NOLA.
Kelli Nakagama
Divy, dark, cramped, and kind of loud… and one of the best places we ate in New Orleans. The food is fantastic (get the Jambalaya) and the service is great. Can’t say enough good about it and can’t wait to go back.
Michael Caposole
Great food! Recommend Coops sampler if it’s your first time. The gumbo is nice and spicy… the jambalaya is bomb… the blackened red fish was so good. Their fried chicken is amazing… and their french fries are perfect.
CHARMYRA FLEMING
This was my first time visiting New Orleans, LA. Man this place didn't disappoint! My friend and I was visiting New Orleans for a short amount of time, and I wanted to have some good creole food. I'm so glad that we found this place. This place was packed when we arrived. There's not a lot of space, but there's definitely a lot of personality! The Planter's Punch packed a lot of "Punch"! The Shrimp Etoufee was spicy and sooo good! Oh and by the way, the red beans and rice with the pork chop was the freaking “cat’s meow!” That pork chop was seasoned to perfection! It was soooo delicious! The red beans and rice was good, but it was a bit cold and I felt like it was lacking something. It didn't taste seasoned enough or something. We will definitely return. Mel was our waitress and she was friendly and on point. The food was delicious! I loved it!
Owen McPeak
Wow. So nice to get out of the tourist area and get some real local eats. Rabbit and sausage Jambalaya was awesome. The service was excellent and the local beers were great. Highly recommended!
Luke Chang
If you want delicious food and don’t mind the crowds, Coop’s is the place. Food is great. Service is great. Restaurant is small; therefore it can get pretty crowded. 👍 I would recommend Coop’s. The lighting was dimmer than most other restaurants that I’ve been to, but it’s not a game changer. 👌 …
D C
Coop's place is my go-to for real Cajun food and southern fried chicken. Always consistently good and great, friendly service always. Try to go at an off-peak or you should plan to wait a while, which is okay, just have a cocktail on the sidewalk and enjoy logging some time on the sidewalk. The streets are full of characters, both local and tourist. Cheers!
P.S. Consider the Coop's Taste Plate for a good sample and to help you make a choice the next time you come in. You WILL be back.
Trung Nguyen
Got the fried chicken, it was delicious.
Jade
The food was pub style with an authentic touch. Noisy, loud, and all around a little crazy but it was a really enjoyable experience. The service was great, the drinks delicious, and top
Notch food. You won’t really find anything super healthy, however they have a large array of offerings from salads to gumbo, burgers, pasta and fried chicken. The green beans were absolutely delicious. All around I’d recommend it, with the understanding it’s a packed pub like atmosphere where those who there and those who dine sing to the juke box!
Les Day
Loved this place. The atmosphere was welcoming and alive. The food was tasty and comforting. The staff was friendly! I had the fried chicken and gumbo.
Neha Dogra
This place was recommended by a local to us. We were wanting to try something Cajun but also in our budget. I tried the Pasta Opelousas and it was really good! I am not much of a Shrimp eater but the Shrimp was the best part of the meal! The place was pretty busy due to the peak time on Friday night but service wasn’t too bad.
Alan Moore Jr
Short wait time to get in. The staff was friendly and quite welcoming even though the place was packed. The food was amazing and hit the spot. The pricing was great as well.
Ariana Rose
Service was great as was the food. I ordered the Coops Plate which featured shrimp creole, jambalaya, red beans and rice, fried chicken, and a cup of seafood gumbo. Everything was VERY satisfying with the exception of the red beans which seemed to be missing some seasoning. Would definitely visit again thought!
Quynh-Anh Huynh
Try the Smoked Duck Quesadilla people! The sauce that comes with it is simply heaven. There's no word for the fried chicken which we ate so fast that it was not even in this photo ❤❤
Cole Myers
Some good Cajun creole food!! The restaurant is more like a bar. It is really loud and the servers/bartenders are really loud and pretty funny if you’re into that- but can be obnoxious if you’re looking for a quiet place to eat- it really depends on what you’re looking for.
The food was fantastic. However, our server did a poor job answering questions. I asked how spicy each plate was and he gave zero input and didn’t care at all. We ordered beans and rice with fried chicken and the beans were pretty spicy. Too spicy for my wife and she couldn’t eat her meal. Had the server explained at least more than 3 words and not been snobby about it we probably wouldn’t have ordered that for her.
Overall the food tasted great and it was a cool experience.
On the Brink
Classic New Orleans cuisine! Much more than just bar food, extensive tasty menu with a warm and inviting feel! Not huge and seating is limited, but well worth the experience. Friendly staff, makes this place a must go!
Yeliz Gedik
Unique experience of food and culture. Food is amazing (best chicken, stuffed jalapeño peppers were great) , service is slow since I guess they make everything from scratch but it is worth waiting if you are the type who enjoys delicious food! You might find the service rude but my personal experience was good. We stayed 4 nights and we were here for two nights, for dinner. Definetely I will be back, next time visiting New Orleans.
Bev Johnson
Atmosphere is raw and really enjoyable. Food was amazing. As customers were leaving they would pass on their recommendations to the next customer. I had the gumbo but sounds like the chicken, the tasting plate and the jambalaya are also must haves!
D. Jaxxson
Oh my goodness! If, you walk pass this place! Just turned yourself AROUND. It’s funky, small and the furniture will shift under your weight and plate. The building is old, musty and taunt. If, you are put off by this. Then the Quarters is not for you and maybe you should put your tuxedo on and head over to another joint. This food is a hidden gem on the outskirts of the Quarters. Our waitresses both times were attentive with a smile and suggestions.
The Chicken Tchoupitoulas will have you licking the plate and they make a smooth Sazerac. The Sazerac is a local New Orleans variation of a cognac or whiskey cocktail, named for the Sazerac de Forge et Fils brand of cognac brandy. This drink will make you question your sanity! We also had the fried chicken (seasoned perfectly) and some jambalaya - whoop, whoop!
All in all, we love this place and will put it on our recommendation list for all of our friends.
Karishma Kibria
Great place for southern dishes! Loved the atmosphere. You need to be at least 21 to have an entry in this place. Small space but very lively. Just keep it in mind: if you don’t eat pork choice might be some what limited for authentic southern food . As most of there signature dishes ( jambalaya, gumbo) contains a mixture of pork/ham that they are unable to separate from the meat as they come into pre mix package. We tried shrimp and crawfish creole and it was great! parking spot is tihhht so we had to park almost 0.5 miles away. However there are few metered parking space available near the place.
DU5T1ND88
This was recommended to us by a friend of ours so we figured why not. The food was delicious the staff is super friendly and it was just overall a great experience. We will be back when we return to NOLA!
Geris Perez
This food was superb!! The waiter told me to order the chicken Tchoupitoulas, best decision ever!!
Mia Driskill
First time in New Orleans and had an early dinner at Coop’s. The atmosphere was the perfect getaway from Bourbon Street. This bar is very laid back, has a great beer selection and fantastic food. I holy recommend the Red Fish Meunière. My fiancé got the Supreme Jambalaya and rated at a 8/10. We both ordered an Abita. Stay away from Bourbon Street and try out Coop’s Place. You won’t be disappointed!!
Jason Muriel
Nice dive bar to grab a very strong drink. Food was ok but nothing memorable.only tried a couple of things and not impressed. Fried chicken was subpar. Some Drinks however were strong as hell.
Saravanan Ram
Best Cajun food in the street. Their Po-boy with fried oysters are a must try. Absolute lipsmacking experience with their flavorful Po-Boy. Their fried chicken was too oily. The place kind of seems off at entrance, but it is definitely the best pick of the street.
ekgus
What an experience. If you want solid food no matter what you pick off the menu this is it. Gumbo was amazing. Jambalaya was on point. Even fried chicken is good. And the server was quite the character making jokes and being rude (on purpose of course). Don't come just to eat. Come to have a great time. You're missing out if you don't go to Coop's at least once when you're in NOLA
Winnie Anne Verzosa
You should try the seafood gumbo and the lamb rib. The serving for a cup is too small but it’s good for just trying it! A bowl is still good enough if you aren’t that hungry. Don’t get me wrong, the food is good but just want to give you a heads up with the serving size. Also, be sure to bring your ID and your party is complete or else they won’t let you in.
Victoria Reid
Best Lamb rib around. Have been here four times just for the ribs and then sample other dishes. Love the atmosphere and quick, prompt service. Also, get a bottle of wine instead of a glass. Better value.
Kimberly Sanders
Food is delicious. Recommend the Coop's Taste Plate.
Donal Ó Mearain
I had the shrimp creole which was nice but one of my friends ordered the etoufee which was out of this world. Others ordered a mixed plattter and raved about it and the freid Okra was really good too. Actually it was all brilliant including their bloody marys. If there was one disappointment it was the mint julep. Service was good. It is a dive bar and we had to wait in the street to get in (often a good sign, and we were in the shade). Really good experience.
Greg Harris
That Jambalaya was outstanding. Red Beans and Rice was meh. However if your visiting New Orleans try the Jambalaya at Coops Place. Just wish I had time to try the Duck Quesadillas
Zoltán Stekkelpak
Excellent fried chicken and gumbo, very interesting old interior.

(Visited Jan 12/17 - 1PM)
It was a walk from Royal Street but we made it - starving.
Roommate took me here and told me the food was amazing so we ordered the same thing.
Coop's Taste Plate -
A cup of seafood gumbo, shrimp creole, cajun fried chicken, red beans & rice with sausage, and rabbit & sausage jambalaya.
Right from the get go - food was SPICY!
But it was delicious. You could really taste the spice. OMG It was delicious. Never mind my spice taste tolerance isn't that high so I was perspiring, but omg it was delicious I cannot say that enough!
Everything was so good! I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant if you want some good Cajun Grub.
The Fried Chicken was EXCELLENT.
Shrimp Creole and Jambalaya was amazing.
Seafood Gumbo also extremely rich in the best way.
Atmosphere is dim but extremely friendly. The servers and bar staff were very helpful.
Will definitely come back again and set my mouth on fire the next time I'm in New Orleans.
Elizabeth Davie
Great hole in the wall place, try the bbq shrimp you will not regret it! Seating is tight on hard, uncomfortable chairs on an uneven floor BUT it's a great cajun food experience.
Davis Reed
Best jambalaya I've ever had. Stay away from their red beans and rice tho, not a fan. Girlfriend has pasta that was amazing as well. I also had there seafood gumbo and that was good as well. Really can't get over how good their jim always was tho.
Jon Collins
Meh. This place was recommended but I don't really see why. Food was ok but what we got was cold and just ok. I got the sampler and each dish was just plopped on the table no explanation as to what was which and so on. I didn't expect to much walking in and I pretty much got what I expected.
London Scott
Some friends & I stopped in here for some cajun grub as advertised, wasn't let down. The spice level was great plus the Abita beer went well with my meal. Perfect spot to grab a meal before heading out for a day of touring the French Quarter.
Charles Kennedy
The food was delicious great southern cuisine and tons of seafood options prepared a variety of ways also a variety of other dishes to chose from for those not so adventurous
Gina Hope
Love this place. Small
Worth any wait. Trust me. We went twice in 4 day trip. BBQ shrimp OMG. Get extra bread. For sauce in bowl. Crab claws. Marinated or fried are great. Bloody Mary. Yes please.
Alaina Danae
Food was amazing and staff was fun! Definitely a bit rough around the edges but a fun pub atmosphere! You must be 21 to enter (even just for food) they will card you at the door!
O Locke
You have to get there early to beat the long line but the food is so worth it! I tried the rabbit and sausage jumbalaya and seafood gumbo. Both delicious! Definitely coming back on my next trip to New Orleans!
Cod Smack
Amazing food worth the wait. The staff were really flying around and did a great job. The food was amazing.
Nathan Patria
Coop's was an excellent experience. Although it was 21+, it's not a bar you hit up for the drinks. The food is the opener, headliner and encore in one. I could write paragraphs about it, but I feel the previous sentence sums it up.
The service was pretty good, although not nearly as professional as most restaurants. Mixed with the aesthetic, it works incredibly well and felt genuine. The only downside was my Bloody Mary tasted like I was inhaling black pepper rather than drinking a cocktail.
Jerry E.
Small Local Place. Really good food. Expect a line to get in but the wait wasn't bad. Just because you're at the front of the line doesn't mean you go in first. Gumbo is really good as is the fried Chicken.
Matt Kross
always great food at Coop's!! Fried chicken with beans and rice pictured. very low key place, definitely worth a visit!
Update March 2022 and coops is the best fried chicken on the planet.
Graham Stanford-Hudspeth
Came on recommendation from multiple people. Food was delicious, especially the lamb ribs. Would give 5 stars but a pretty big cockroach was on our table as we finished up our meal...
Bill Knight
Got a cup of seafood gumbo and a cup of jambalaya. So good. Not too spicy. Then we got some BBQ shrimp. That was even better! Kind of like shrimp with a mole sauce on it. Spicy and sweet. The waitress was so friendly and helpful!
Stuart
It doesn't get a local or homegrown as this place. Cajun and cerole food aplenty washed down with a great range of local beers. It's a cosy place, people are friendly and staff attentive. The food is wonderful and not overly expensive for NOLA..
Jeffrey Fitzsimmons
Fantastic and knowledgeable staff, great food, and some quality local craft beers. Easily my favorite place to eat and drink during our vacation here.
Barrett Coheley
Even with its limited , post-covid menu, eerily reminiscent of post-Katrina menu, Coops never ever disappoints .., not just with its authentic cuisine but genuine richness and welcoming atmosphere of a true Nola bar.
Evelyn Diaz Reyes
Great food at an affordable price. We had gumbo, jambalaya and fried okra. We should have gotten the platter. We will definitely come back when we are in the area. Friendly staff.
Eric Merck
Great "dive" bar. Server was the best. Great recommendations. He was a riot. Rabbit jambalaya and marinated crab claws was my first meal of my first visit to New Orleans.
Alvaro Jose
Everyone was raving about how good fried chicken was in New Orleans, and now I can see why. BEST CHICKEN I HAVE EVER HAD. Waitress was great and got my food extremely fast. Coming back to Coops next time I'm in NO for sure
Timothy Reese
Good food oh, I had the taster plate and it was a great sample of various foods from New Orleans. The gumbo and rabbit jambalaya were delicious!
Gregory “Saint”
This place is good... I wasn’t impressed with the place when I entered there but the food was great... huge portions and good prices... their fried chicken is one of the best you can find in the French Quarter and the jambalaya was perfect... meat gumbo was perfect and coops mixed platter so so tasty... service was average to be honest... this woman was helpful but I felt that she was bothered because I asked some mayo more... anyway I won’t get any stars back because everything was perfect...
Holly Nunyabizness
Delicious.. The red beans was ok tho but overall delish especially the gumbo 🤤💙 …
helly
Everywhere we went, this joint was highly recommended and came with flying praises by locals.
Thankfully, it did not disappoint.
The queue to eat was long but the wait was alright (easier with 2 and also worth the wait).
I had a Nawlins signature - the Mint Juleps (drink not featured) but don’t think it’ll be my choice of drink anytime as was a tad sweet for me. Food on the other hand was totally meant for me!
The fried chicken was tender and the flavour was on point; I reckon there must have been over 7 different spices/herbs used for the seasoning mix.
The gumbo, said to be one of the most traditional in Nawlins, was delicious though a tad heavy on the salt (much like a lot of food in Nawlins it felt). A tip - finish it all whilst it’s hot!
Mimi Burnham
I look forward to eating here; I always get the red beans & rice with two pieces of fried chicken = delicious!
Mint Juleps and all cocktails are solid!
Highly recommend
Stephen Fresta
This place has character, and absolutely delicious local food. Go for the Taste Plate to get a sample of everything if you're not sure!
Get ready for some attitude though -- your waiter will (in good humor) "mock" you and yell at you with good natured Louisiana attitude. It's part of the fun experience.
Eitam
Good food, good service!
Douglas Hansen
Awesome food and good drinks here I got the coops taste of new Orleans platter that had their gumbo, red beans and rice, jambalaya, and ettouffee!
Matthew Grabiak
Some of the best food I’ve ever had. I recommend the platter that samples several different foods. The fried chicken is crispy, moist, flavorful and all around delicious. The gumbo was amazing. I can’t wait to go back.
H P
Absolutely loved it! It made me feel like I was in a American (oldie) movie - very welcoming atmosphere (the staff even gave us advice on how to eat the crab in the dish :D)...old western movies on TV contributing to the rustic atmosphere, amazingly crispy fried chicken and spicy...and it was so refreshing to get into the cold of the place with AC after roaming around the French market
Keiry S
The Etouffee was a party in my mouth (probably the best thing I've ever had) and the supreme jambalaya was a close second. Highly recommend. Our server was very friendly and attentive.
Lynn Deitsch
We had some fantastic drinks and awesome food, Adrian was very helpful and friendly, we were very pleased with all of our food.
Nick Langel
Went to Coops the first night in New Orleans and feel in love with the Gumbo. I recommend the taste of New Orleans to get a little bit over everything. Delicious food, and the beer selection is great. The bartenders are pretty loud, but they are a good time.
Tony Smith
This place has amazing food and great Bloody Mary’s. We had fried shrimp and fries, soooo good. They must change their fryer grease daily, that had to be the freshest fried shrimp I’ve ever tasted.
Tyler Miller-Gordon
Rebecca was a great server with such a dun personality. Great lil local hole in the wall with the best gumbo I've ever had!!
Cindy Brooks
Fabulous food, generous servings, great location. Had the blackened reddish and a cup of gumbo.
Iacopo Briano
Best Jambalaya in the French Quarter, amazing service
billy childers
The food here is absolutely amazing and the staff is super friendly. I 100% recommend Coop's Place.
Robert Ott
Red beans and rice were great, but possibly the best fried chicken I've ever had.
JH S
Came here twice and it has always been packed. Everyone I met at Coops (in terms of diners) were fantastic and told me I chose the right place. These were people who have come over and over again. Went for the fried shrimp and oysters platter and they were kind enough to get out the creole mustard for me to try. The platter was fried piping hot but didn’t feel greasy at all.
Second time I went was because the couple beside me had the jambalaya and spent half the time with their eyes closed in pleasure. I had to come back and absolutely no regrets. The jambalaya was full of flavour that was both hard hitting and well balanced. Definitely a gem that I will come back to.
Jay Jenkins
Food and service were great. My new favorite in NOLA
David Litrenta
I was told that this place had the best red beans and rice in the city outside of having someone cook it for you at home...
They were right.
And the etouffe, the gumbo, the jambalaya, and the chicken were top notch as well.
Lorri Powers
We loved, loved, loved our experience here. The food was fantastic - all made to order and delicious. Everything came out piping hot and was cooked perfectly. Our host/server was diligent about checking vaccines/test results. She was really friendly and offered great menu suggestions. We loved the old-school pub atmosphere and charm. Highly recommended!

We arrived on a Friday around 5pm. Food was good! We had fried chicken, duck quesadilla, and fried crab claws. The service was OUTSTANDING and cheerful! Would return just to be served by the server. He was great. I wished I would remember his name. Took away one star because chicken could be more flavorful.
Drew Cross
As a local, this is the place we always tourists towards. Excellent food. Reasonable price. It is a hole in the wall with some rustic feel that may need to be updated slightly and the drinks are canned and slightly overpriced, that's the reason I am only rating it four out of five stars.., but as a whole.. you're not going to experience much more authentic New Orleans or Creole food than this place. Forget the tourist traps near the hotels. Take a good walk to this restaurant. You will be happily surprised.

My friend and I visited Coop's Place on St. Patrick's day following the parade, and it was amazing! Excellent service and delicious food. We ordered the 'Taste Plate'. It was a great way to try a few different items - I hope you like spice, this had a good deal of it. If you're in the French Quarter - give it a go!
Runako Taylor
Really loved the fried chicken, the music was ace, and the two love ladies keeping the bar and taking orders and seating were probably the loveliest folks ever. Go just to say hi but stay for a drink!
Scott
Thanks for a decent evening. The service was a 3, the food was a 4 and the cleanliness was a 2. It’s absolutely not worth the long line.
Joshua Cadwallader
This place is great. More reasonably priced than a lot of places in the French Quarter but the food was excellent. We had a N.Orleans taste plate and the garden burger and both dishes were great. The portions are maybe not as huge as some places but still big compared to in England and more than enough for us.
Tyler Charles
Good things come in small packages, and good food comes in small restaurants! The whole area of the dining room was a very big, but people work finding to get in there! We got the smoke. Quesadilla, and it was served with an orange sauce, housemaid beco, with little bit of sour cream and jalapenos to garnish. Very tasty!
I was advised to get the marinated, not fried, crab claws, and boy was that a great recommendation! The marinade, the sauce that the crab claws are tossed in, was so delicious! They serve it with a side of cocktail sauce, but it is hardly needed. We still dipped them anyway, and man were they good!
Rick Filippetti
Cool place to get some authentic food that seems like a local favorite. The rabbit sausage jambalaya is my favorite jambalaya in New Orleans. The staff is very honest and friendly so they won’t lead you astray and even will let you know what not to get on the menu.
Luna Crow
Five stars isn't enough to do this place justice. The staff are amazing, the food is to die for; seriously the best food I had during my New Orleans visit, and probably some of the best food I've had ever. Try their smoked duck quesadilla, you won't be disappointed!
Camilo Sandoval
AMAZING!!! Best Gumbo ever!!! Oh, and the fried mushrooms...hmmmm, so good! You MUST check out this place and enjoy the terrific service...our server, Trysta, was the best! 👌🏽 …
Jay Hatcher
Hands down my favorite non seafood restaurant in New Orleans. You cant go wrong ordering the fried chicken. It is as good as grandmas and always cooked to perfection. Comes with jambalaya and Cole slaw. The jambalaya has rabbit in it and this is the only Cole slaw I will eat. You have to be 21 to eat here so leave the kids at home.
Matt Smith
Obvious dive bar the moment you go in. Small but fun atmosphere, non smoking. I got the sampler that had 4 different things that are the most popular. The one thing that I absolutely loved was the red beans and rice; they are the best I've ever had anywhere, hands down. Great texture combined with an amazing, slight smokey flavor. Plus there is a waiter there that sounds like Tom Waits (wakes up every morning and gargles gravel), and he's hilarious. I'd recommend going here just for that guy's jokes alone.
Amber V
The food is great!
But getting in and seated is a pain;
We had a party of 4, and 2 parties that came after us that were both larger than our group (one of 7 and one of 6) both got seated ahead of us.
Probably won't be back, but if we eat here again It'll be to-go.
peter friedkin
Coops is a wonderful neighborhood dive. Friendly servers & outstanding food. It's. Insanely busy during festival season but always worth the wait.
For the last 10 my first meal when I get to New Orleans is Coops fried chicken & rabbit jambalaya
Chanda Hansen
My brother recommended.. and he was so right. Fried chicken.. delicious.. gumbo.. yummy.. jambalaya oh my yes!!! I recommend anything they are serving!!!!!
Mary Mitchell
This was my first time to New Orleans and first time to Coop's Place. The wait outside was long, but I heard that was to be expected. We had to wait roughly 45 minutes before we got inside and got a table.
My three stars is mainly from the unprofessionalism displayed by the staff. Our waitress was nice to our faces but rude when she turned around. Someone in our party ordered a few exceptions and when she went to tell the guy at the bar, she was very animated in her body language. You could tell she was clearly angry. The guy began doing the same. When she came back to the table, I actually whispered to her that I saw how she acted when she left our table and found it very disrespectful. She then tried to say they weren't talking about us, they were talking about one of the cooks who called in that day. Even if that were true, it was still unprofessional to display those type of reactions to your customers.
When the food finally came out, it was somewhat cold but mine was okay. Others at my table didn't have a good experience with their food either - and they've visited New Orleans several times - so this was just a lesson learned that this place may not be for us.
Matthew Seal
Small restaurant offering local beers and eats. Be ready to wait in line outside for a bit depending on when you go. The service was amazing and the food was awesome. I had the rabbit jambalaya and a hot bowl of spicy gumbo. I also had with that an Abita beer, which is made nearby.
Simone M
Drinks were on point. We had the Jambalaya with rabbit and sausage and a catfish dinner. The catfish was just ok and the Jambalaya was too spicy to really appreciate the usual complex flavors of the Jambalaya. I was disappointed in the meal but the elephant in the room was the dirty glass doors leading out to the kitchen. Really grimy. We rely on reviews when we travel but this reminded us that sometimes you have to do your own evaluation on the spot to decide. The server was friendly and responsive and we appreciated that.
Starsha Frederickson
From the outside this place looks sketchy, but was highly recommended so we decided to give it a try. The food was AMAZING! The staff were so fun and kind. The atmosphere is quircky, but everything was clean and comfortable. We had an assortment of dishes and everyone loved what they ate. Try this place!
Mac Fitzgerald
Really a great little bar and restaurant. The food is excellent amid the rustic atmosphere that doesn't look like it has changed at all since its turn of the century origin
katrina deem
Excellent fried chicken and perhaps the best Cole slaw I've ever had. Quick service and nice staff. Jambalaya supreme was also delish!
Howard West (West)
Busy busy busy, but worth the wait. Wholesome Louisiana cooking, creative drinks, friendly service. Open late. Good price on drinks. It's a local favorite!
Rachel Neeley
What an unexpectedly awesome find! We were recommended Coop's Place by the staff at Olivier House Hotel. This diamond in the rough was so delicious we decided to break our vacation rule and eat there a second time during our stay. The three of us ordered different dishes so we could all try each other's. The Pasta Jambalaya was mouth watering. Gumbo was amazing. Red Beans and rice perfection. Fried chicken THE BEST I HAVE EVER HAD. Blackened Redfish was top notch. Can not say enough about how fantastic this place is!!
Anand Ramaswamy
Ok, I have never been to a more spontaneous punk place as this ever. Coops is an experience - raw, loud, humorous and genuine. The food is awesome is besides the point!!! Come here to experience the madness and uniqueness.... no where else to be found.
scott sitner
Looks like a dive bar, feels like one and was. 40 years old it seems But we did not want to wait anywhere else for an hour. service was super friendly,. My gumbo was good and loaded with shrimp. My ettouffe was great. packed with shrimp and crawfish and rice, great flavor. Not sure why i was surprised but was If you walk by and are not sure because of appearances, don't worry, just go. The fried shrimp was eh, but that's almost expected. Great place to go in french market. really four and half
sahithi kolli
One of the best food places in NOLA. Funny and friendly wait staff. The ambience isn't fancy or uptight but the food is amazing. Go with whatever the staff recommends, that's what we did. We had jambalaya, fried chicken and shrimp Creole (honestly, everything) was amazing!
GAVIN PERSAUD
Very delicious food! Could've used a bit larger portions.
Kristan Valdez
The Crab stuffed jalapenos were the absolute BOMB! I would highly recommend them.
YT Disimile
We researched all the top places to eat - and hit them all up. This was by far the BEST meal (we actually ate here twice in four days) The blackened red fish is cooked so perfectly with a flakey coating. The green beans with a bacon sauce were also amazing. It is a complete dive and you can’t bring your kids (which is okay!) but the food is not something you want to miss. It should be at the top of your list to visit!
Rebekah Hartman
Eat here. Everything is delicious! Especially the marinated crab, the fried chicken, gumbo, red beans and rice (we loved it so much we ordered it twice)!!!
Marie-Joe Roy
Our favorite meal so far everything considered (food, music, service). Chicken Tchoupitoulas and rabbit & sausage jambalaya were delicious! We did not have enough room to try their famous Cajun Fried Chicken and unfortunately they are closed Tuesday & Wednesday. We might get tempted to come back on our last day but so many other options to explore, lol
Haunna Birdsey
The food here soooo lived up to the hype. The gumbo is the best I have ever had. Period. The fried chicken was crispy and salted and delish. I really recommend going at the off times to eat as it can get busy. You have to be 21 to go in so no kids. It’s a good old southern country bar.
Amanda L
Great dive with amazing food. The jambalaya and gumbo were delicious. Judah was funny as hell and provided great service! Hope We get to come back soon! Love, the Tampa crew ❤️
Michael Baker
The food came out super fast and it was still delicious. The atmosphere is a mellow laid back type of place with mid 90's R&B music playing from a TV at a mild sound level. If I ever visit NOLA again I will definitely come back to Coops
Odo Bayeux
Rock solid, New Orleans food, but also affordable, in a casual setting. Fried chicken might be my favorite in the city. The red beans and rice has more fresh taste, than other version I've had in town. The chopped greens on top give it that freshness as opposed to the standard smoke sausage flavor that is common.
Wayne Cox
Ate lunch here today. Very good and highly recommend it. Great Cajun food. Great atmosphere.
Tiffany Stakem
A low key spot more off the beaten path. Friendly service, though they forgot and then messed up my order. Food is OK. There is certainly much better in the neighborhood. Reasonably priced.
Martin “Shep” Shepherd
A.MAZ.ING! Best gumbo in the French Quarter. Overstuffed Po' Boys are perfect. Everything is just damn good, wait staff and bartenders are friendly and don't mind chatting. A place for locals and out-of-towners. Expect a line at dinner and after since seating (like most places on Decatur) is limited. But do not despair, the line moves quickly and it is *well*worth* the wait. Food service at the bar is accepted and is fast and same menu as table seating. Best time to go: ALL DAY!
Serina Gee
Came here for the Supreme Rabbit & Sausage jambalaya and Seafood gumbo after Gumbo Shop failed to give a memorable first impression. Little bit of a dive vibe, but seemed pretty popular when we went in. We were seated without a wait. Everything was extremely flavorful and savory. The tasso in the jambalaya was especially delicious.
Les Dabney
First time there and definitely will not be my last. We had the Pasta Jambalaya and the Redfish Meuniere. Both were amazing and I wish I lived closer I'd eat that Redfish every day.
Jan Freimann
Awesome Supreme Jambalaya ($13.90) - not too spicy. Strongly recommend. Nice Lunch Place!
Cindy Fowler
Great food, great prices. The best cocktail sauce I have ever had. The seafood platter is so tasty and enough for two hungry people!
Matthew Enright
Always has been and always will be a favorite. Come here for authentic creole food and authentic New Orleans service. If you don't like one of those, than it's probably not the place for you.
Joel Gladd
This place is amazing. The blackened redfish is perfectly seasoned. The fried chicken has just the right amount of flakiness and isn’t too greasy. The place was packed but we only waited for about 20 min.
Jason Woodard
Really good local New Orleans food!! 🙂 J …
Cecil Tso (Patrick)
This was an experience. The day after Halloween, and the French Quarter is still fairly busy. We're on a mission for late night food as are a lot of other people, and after giving up on another place we decided to come here. We had to wait in line for about a 1/2 hour. The street was stinky, people kept trying to cut in front of us, and we were tired, but oh was it worth it.
It was honestly the best fried chicken I've ever had. I really dislike coleslaw, but I ate all of it, and enjoyed it. The rabbit & sausage jambalaya was great. This was probably my favorite meal of our whole trip.
We didn't catch his name, but our server was a character in a good way.
Hillary K
Our tradition is to have our first meal at Coop’s Place whenever we come to New Orleans, and the food has never disappointed. Our go to is Creole Green Beans to start, a couple of cold Abita beers, Cajun Fried Chicken breast and Jambalaya made with rabbit and sausage. I’m allergic to shrimp 😞 but you can add some shrimp and crawfish and make it a Jambalaya Supreme. The ambiance is always interesting. It’s kind of a dive with awesome food and great drinks. Definitely a favorite spot for us.
Nici G
Spicy Cajun chicken w red beans and rice. You can't go wrong. Make sure you get a table and go early there's always a line since it's such a tiny place.
Maria Hawk
Great fod and awesome experience! The waitress and bar tender were amazing. The hostess was kind and all of them were hilarious! We had a great time and the food was awesome.
Paul Rane
This is one of the most authentic Cajun/Creole restaurants in The French Quarter.
It is very small, and therefore has a great ambience. The food is amazing with good service. You can sit at a small table or at the bar, we chose the latter. Chatting to bar tenders and other customers makes this place very friendly
One small problem, and that's probably just me, is no draught beer. Saying that, the cans of beer are cold.
Rick Balwani
Solid cajun food. Came here for lunch and there was no wait. Right near French Quarter market and Cafe Du Monde. Jambalaya was off the hook.
Steven Vo
Amazing food, love the jambalaya supreme. No split checks. Overall highly recommended.
Ed Price
Great local food with good beer/cocktail menu. Lots of locals eat here, and it is hot and sweaty. Try it next time you're here.
Recommended.
Randy Dahlgren
Awesome food at a reasonable price. Don't miss this one when in the French Quarter!
Jerry Ratigan
New Orleans dive bar located on the outskirts of the French Quarter. Definitely a low key feel and somewhat outdated.
Tasting plate was alright, nothing special. Gumbo was tasty. French fries were really good!
Maria Noll
Gumbo and jambalaya was really good lots of spice and flavor but fried chicken wing took the cake it was the best.
Mark Heisel
Good food, verylong wait. Had the sampler, it was good. Great bloody Mary. All in all, it was worth it.
Eric Swecker
It is a must-go. If you don't know what to try, get the sampler. Everything was delicious!
Stephen Burgess
Great environment. Fantastic food. Jambalaya is a must have.
Tyler Macmillan
Small bar/restaurant with great, authentic NO dishes. Nothing fancy, and that is part of what makes it great
Bob Sammartino
Great Louisiana food . Get the taste plate with jambalaya and fried chicken. Add a gumbo cup. Real dive bar ambiance. Local regulars and interesting people sit at the bar. Long line outside at peak periods
Danny Maldonado
Excellent place to eat in the heart of the French District in New Orleans. The Jambalaya and Fried chicken is to die for. Be prepared to be in line for a bit to get in, though.
Peter Casano
Eaten here over the years and it’s always just right. This time, however, our waiter was extremely annoying and continually berated is if we glanced at our phones. Told us to put them down and get a life. Good for him. Made our evening more better after all. Red beans and rice with 2 pieces of chicken hit the late night spot. Edited to add: returned recently and it was good as always but…. the red beans and rice were seasoned heavily with Chile powder. What on earth ?
Frida Moses
Tasty food at great prices, awesome staff, really enjoyable ambience. Very Louisiana vibe and food
Jason C. Lin
Awesome place. 21+ to enter. They will ID you. The food is super delicious and comforting. Service is casual and friendly. Will definitely come back when we are in NoLa again!
Tiffany Blanchet
We came to New Orleans mid December visiting fro Chicago and popped in to Coops for dinner on a whim, hoping to get a taste of the bayou our first night in town. We were pleasantly delighted! The sassy servers were amazing and authentic and steered us to the sampler platter, and one of the specials which was a bettered red fish dish with a buttery/malt vinegar/crawfish type of sauce that I am still craving. I highly recommend this place!
Shawn Rana
Some of the best gumbo and jambalaya in New Orleans are in the diviest of places, and Coop's is proof of that. There may be a line out the door when you get there but I assure you it is worth it; the best jambalaya I had on my trip was here at Coop's.
Pama Brown
We had pretty much everything on the menu. Outstanding! Duck/rabbit quesadilla, sampler platters. Servers/bartenders were spot on, friendly, made the atmosphere perfect.Food arrived at reasonable time. Good beer selection. Cocktails and beers served in to go cups. Looks like just an old bar, SO MUCH MORE!
Jennifer Warren
This is a great spot where you see a mix of locals and visitors. You can tell this place has been around a while and for good reason! The gumbo, oysters, crab claw and red fish were all delightful! A great kick-off meal for our time in NOLA!
Godwin Chan
Of all the restaurants we visited in New Orleans, this is by far the most underrated place. The setup is a classic dive bar with super friendly bartender, and the drinks and food were fantastic. The fried chicken and Tasso (pork smoked in house) were definitely the highlights, as well as the jambalaya that everyone raves about in reviews. It was so good we went once before going out and came back again the same night for a snack 😅
Josh Miller
Sweet Lord, the fried chicken is perfect. No faux panko, corn flake pounded gibberish at this place. You can tell when chicken has been fried twice. Here, it was without question cooked-to-order one time. Loved. ++ for having ice-cold Yuengling.
Norma DeLeon
Chicken Tchoupitoulas was out of this world! Will definitely go back for it if I'm ever in New Orleans again!
Jess Lochner
We were looking for a quick bite and found this little gem. The food was amazing, it looks like a dive bar and was definitely not for the faint of heart. Our waitress was loud and hyperactive but it made it so much better honestly. The jambalaya, the friend chicken and the coleslaw are top of my list now. 10/10 absolutely loved it.
Vanessa Esquivel
Table was broken despite waitresses attempts to fix it. Food had a good flavor but over in all, it was not worth the money. Dirty, loud, but I thought our waitress was funny.
James Holliman
Excellent dive restaurant with great local food. Lots of fat on the lamb ribs, but I wasn't the one who ordered them. The Taste of New Orleans was strong all around, and the duck quesadillas were delicious. The Chicken Tchapatoulis(?) was the star of the show. My cousin said she would travel to NO just to get that again.
Christophe Deschamps
Excellent cajun food in a cool bar. I had the fried chicken and jambalaya one night, red beans and rice the other. The jambalaya is the best on that stretch of the French Quarter, as is the rest of the food as the lineup outside can attest. Well worth the wait if you want great quality, low-cost cajun food that doesn't feel as tourist trappy. Also, who can say no to $4 beers!
Ted DeRuyter
Small hole in the wall place. Good gumbo and highly recommend the creole fried chicken. Good spicy bloody Mary as well
Marjorie Pokorny
Really good food. Service here is great. Bartender was attentive. Love the burgers and fries. These cooks are always on it, no matter what I have ordered. Just really good food!
Venessa Hyer
Crowded and fun....food was delicious.
Ruffino Mustangs
Food was AMAZING. The server was really cool he had a great personality
Sylvia J
We were looking forward to the rabbit and sausage jambalaya. Found they also have a Supreme option that gives also shrimp, crawfish. So we bought both versions. Only problem we had is it was so heavily spiced, (hot) can't taste what's in it. So not sure if it taste good or not. So maybe not adding so much peppery taste it would be great.
Scott Flaherty
Some people will tell you that Coop's has the best gumbo in the French Quarter. I beg to differ. The best gumbo is at Emeril's NOLA. If you're going to Coop's, I recommend the jambalaya. The best I've ever had. Coop's also has a nice friendly atmosphere. I'd get there early because they fill up fast.
Maureen Linehan
Stopped in early evening ...great service and food was excellent. I think we had a taste of all of New Orleans dishes on one plate. Sorry we didn't make it back for another meal!
Justin Mills
All food we got was very good. Fried chicken was juicy, jambalaya Supreme was exceptional, smoked duck quesadilla was great. The Lamb ribs, seafood gumbo, were also very good.
Server was a big part of the show. His jokes and personality were mostly on point and fun, but getting loudly shamed multiple times for bringing out your cell phone (one of his rules along with no check splitting) to check on your kids was annoying. He was also pretty vocal on politics, which even though I didn't personally disagree, shouldn't be something you have to deal with at dinner.
Carlienne MacQueen
I was hesitating at first as it’s a dive bar BUT the food was so delicious and the drinks strong, definitely recommend!
Holly Walton
Order the fried chicken it is the best!! The red beans and rice and crab stuffed jalapeño poppers were also very good!! One of the best restaurants we at at in New Orleans!!
Ole Elfenkaemper
I am trading my European life for the food on the menu. Just to eat here every day. During my 5000 mile roadtrip through the states, I think I haven‘t had better seafood than at Coop‘s. If this doesn‘t convince you, nothing will. Go for the crab and pepper starters.
DeCarlos Scott
Read review and made the shuffle to try it. Wasn’t impressed with my Coop’s comb taste plate but did like the gumbo. Did notice the guy sitting next to me at the bar Po’boy looked legit!!!
Edd Rustrian
A huge selection of hot sauces with funny names. Did I mention you can sample them but need to sign a waiver 😂 …
Steven L.
fantastic experience. had the fried chicken, great. Crispy and flavourful, awesome cole slaw.
Michael Reeves
Very fun place for Adults Only...
Loud, have to wait in line to be seated but the atmosphere is over the top!!
Service is outstanding for a no frills place...
Looks like a total hole in the wall dive but the food is great...
Lynn Shupp
Small place run very well and worth a try. We had red beans and rice, jambalaya, fried chicken and the bloody mary were all really good. Priced well and glad we tried it!
Charlie Procell
Great atmosphere. The waitress was friendly. The food was excellent.
Shelby Arcay
How could anyone not give this place 5 star. Taster plate was perfect, lots of nice little crab claws in the Gumbo. Yum
Monica Contreras
Everything is delicious we go every year it's number 1 on our list to go eat
Casey Turpin
Oh my gosh! The service and the food were AMAZING! Love and highly recommend!!!
Cassidy Rhodes
Food, bomb. Staff, bomb. 4 stars because the owner insists that people pay for touch tunes and it’s $1/ 1 song. Otherwise it’s just silent? It was a little uncomf. Weird choice.
Mark Tianwu Zang
Best cajun food in NOLA. Oyster, crawfish, shrimp, rabbit, lamb, crab and more!
John Casimiro
Awesome 1st experience at Coop's. Friendly service and food was delicious.
Kimberly Nagle-Seidel
LOVE IT HERE! Great atmosphere and the food is to DIE FOR!
Sarah Perkins
This was best tasting food we had for the price during our stay in New Orleans!! My husband and I ordered the tasting platter and everything was fantastic.
Stephen Wilkinson
Literally my favorite restaurant in the world. Hasn't ever once disappointed me.
Christine M
Pretty place, drinks were great! Sit and chill!
Matthew Price
Loved the cajun chicken! Friendly sports bar!
theannomie
Love this place! Adjacent to the touristy Jackson square and French quarter but a world of its own inside. Coops transports you to a cozy, dimly lit, quiet, dive bar and kitchen environment where you can relax and enjoy local cuisine as its intended to be. We had the seafood gumbo, shrimp and crawfish etouffee, fried crawfish and fried okra. Everything was perfect, most of all the okra. Our only regret was not getting the “extra seafood” option for the gumbo, something to look forward to next time!
Austin Martin
This was my favorite meal while visiting New Orleans! Very good food, and you can tell it's an area favorite. Highly recommend eating here! Good portions and variety.
Lena Griffin
Good service and a very flavorful chicken po’boy. Right in the French qtr and across from the market. Within steps of Frenchmen st. A nice go-between!
randy rider
Never disappointments. Service and food were awesome as usual.
Amy He
One of our favorite places with the best gumbo after trying a ton of other "famous" places like the Gumbo House. Still thinking of their fried chicken as well. You won't regret coming here!
Tony Santillan
Great bar, and food. Very authentic feel.
Alvaro Blazquez
Good traditional New Orleans food. Great vibe and nice staff.
Cassie Sheffield
Perfect New Orleans vibe and excellent creole food. This is where you want to eat!
Jess Kuhn
Solid spot, my drink was strong and cheap and my chicken breast was perfectly seasoned, crisp & juicy. My fettuccine was great and my salad while average was topped with a great dressing.
Taylor Nelson
If you are looking for amazing food, this is your place. We took two people and split the Taste plate and the seafood appetizer and left STUFFED. Far and away the best food and the strongest drinks I've ever been served.
Margo Langley
The Chicken Tchoupitoulas was so freakin delicious! A huge heaping plate of New Orleans goodness! Folks that work in there are nice and helpful without being annoying, (that's a thing for me). I would definitely go back!!!
Tina Moeller
This is hands down the BEST fried chicken that I have ever eaten.... and I have eaten a lot of it. It's even better than my husband's.... but don't tell him I told you that.... I don't think I can put it into words.... it's tender, juicy, crunchy.... I even ate the skin and I never eat the skin. I didn't eat much of the sides because I didn't want to waste the space. The server was funny and nice. The mojito was properly made and my drink... the sunrise something or other was so good I had to get two. Don't waste your time eating any other fried chicken, you will have wasted your money.
Sean Craft
Absolutely delicious food and a decent selection of alcohol as well. Love that the Chef who prepares your meal comes out of the kitchen to serve it to you. A must visit.
Derrick Alaric
Good food. Great atmosphere if your in the area you should stop in here.
Anthony Leonardi
One of the bar tenders was a bit standoffish, but maybe that was his schtick. The others were great and the food was terrific.
Chaz Judy
Coops place was just a jaunt past ye old cafe du Monde in a strip of shops running down Decatur street. The smell caught me first. Woodsmoke. We made our way in and was greeted by the great and wonderful Ms Laura. She sat us and got our drink order and disappeared while we glanced and the menu. Good golly miss molly. We ordered two jambalaya supreme with rabbit creole ham, sausage, shrimp, crawfish and an order of bbq shrimp. Whole gulf shrimps smoked over hickory in a creole espagnole style sauce so good we was licking our bowls. The jambalaya was exceptional and one of my party ordered the dark meat chicken that was so crispy and elegant he shed a tear. 10/10. 100/100 this place is small and intimate and perfect to take your someone special even if that includes your two drunken brothers.
Robert McDonald
Food was good and beer was cold. Not as crazy as the French Quarter, but there can be a wait when it's crowded.
kenji steakster
MUST HAVE!!! Straight up a hidden gem of the city! Super low key, and you would never tell from the outside, but this place is phenomenal!! Had the Nola crab leg bites, out of this world!! How do they even do that?! And all their other fried seafood is on point too. Shared a platter, and could barely finish it. Definitely ask for the mustard remoulade to dip everything in!! Slappin. Will definitely come back when we're in town!!
Joshua Jones
Great drinks, great food, a bit too spicy
phillip snyder
Good food, great atmosphere, cool people…my kind of dive bar.
Madhav Saxena
Fun place, good food and good service. Recommended for a low key French Quarter lunch.
Cristian Muñiz Abraldes
Came here with my wife for a quick improvised dinner.
Please be aware that this is a dive bar, a very casual place. If you are allright with that, you’ll probably enjoy it.
Not the cleanest place I’ve ever been to but the food was more than decent (their fried chicken and the redfish), and we loved our waitress - very friendly, attentive and loaded with energy!
Alex Rivera
Decent friend chicken, rabbit jambalaya was interesting. Wouldn't go out of my way to visit but if you're in the area it's a good option for chicken.
Whitney Rayl
I could not recommend this place more. The food is alway stellar, the service is great, and the atmosphere is just what you need. Get the red beans and rice with andouille-you won't regret it.
Roger Fine
Some of the best food in Nola!! Great atmosphere! Our server had three rules...1. PUT YOUR PHONE AWAY! Talk to each other. I know, who would of thought you get by without your phone. 2. Don't look on this side of the menu. 3. Don't order fried shrimp...you can get that any where! Excellent rules. Try it out...you won't be disappointed. Thank me later!!
sharon walker
Food was ok, service was not so good rude ready to go home, but would go back because of the food
Krystina Kocher
Great service, friendly staff! Love the atmosphere! Rabbit and Sausage Jambalaya is a must!!
Lynsi McArthur-Hunt
Our favorite restaurant throughout our trip to Nawlins! Xo
Ryan McDermott
Best fried seafood and food in New Orleans best shrimp po boy no joke.
Katarzyna Milian
Such a cool local spot! Very tasty food and an authentic atmosphere. Great staff too. Loved it!
Hyunsun C
Very crispy fried chicken, cool beer, good taste, nice ambiance, great service..
Griz Bear
One of my favorite places in town for decent grub.
Bander Snatch
I love Coop's the staff is always fun and well versed in what's good. They try to accommodate everyone with their menu so if you can't find something you can eat, you're not trying.
K Hammer
Wonderful food, bit of a dive very laid-back.

Fun local bar feel. Had the platter and fried shrimp and both were very good. It's a small bar in a great location.

Great food, great service. Our server was great! You really can't live in or come to New Orleans without eating at Coop's. No frills but seriously some of the best food you can find in the city.

How could you not love this place? The food was awesome. Prices very reasonable. There’s only 3 rules and they’re easy to follow. Don’t miss out on one of the best deals in the Quarter. This hole in the wall will become your ‘go to’ place that you compare every other place to. If you do decide to go somewhere else, you’ll be kicking yourself for making such a dumb decision.

I liked the atmosphere and food at Coop's Place. It is located in the French Quarter.

Excellent Bloody Mary's and variety of food brought quickly, even on a busy Easter Sunday when we stopped in. It's an authentic little bar with local flavor.

Delicious food. Tried the gumbo and the jambalaya both were delicious.

My girlfriend and I came here twice during our week long vacation. The fried chicken was so good the first time that we just had to come back for more. Tried many other great things here as well and the drinks were strong. The place is usually quite busy so expect a bit of a wait in terms of service. But the food makes you completely forget about the wait altogether. Overall great experience.

If you want to try real Louisiana doid, coop's is where you can find most delicious food. They also have hot and spicy food.

First time in NOLA and this place was recommended by a bartender 1 mile away and it’s the best red beans & rice I’ve ever had. Fantastic place.

I got the sampler platter and it was really good. My absolute favorite was the seasoning on the chicken wing. When I come back, I will definitely want the chicken and jambalaya. The jambalaya was spicy but full of meat and flavor. I will definitely be back!!!

The food was fantastic, prices are good, and the atmosphere is a great bar with a bunch of regulars. Wait for the seating you prefer, once you choose to sit at the bar / table, there is no moving.

I was taken to Coop's Place on my first night in NOLA and loved it so much, I went back again the next night. The BBQ Shrimp were fantastic and flavorful, but a lot of work that comes with peel and eat shrimp. The next night I had the Jambalaya Supreme and was again blown away with the flavor and quality of the food. The staff was also very friendly, you could tell they loved their regulars and treated the tourists just as well. The feel of the place was friendly and welcoming, with just the right amount of good natured sarcasm and humor. Trista, Judah, and all the others made both nights fantastic.
