Reviews of Bywater Bakery

After having their Chantilly king's cake and Chantilly cake for special occasions, we knew immediately that we wanted Bywater Bakery to do our wedding cake. The hardest part was choosing the flavors after our tasting! They were so friendly and helpful throughout the process. We ended up going with a 3-tier and a sheet cake: top - hummingbird with cream cheese, almond with chocolate custard, red velvet with cream cheese, and a Chantilly half-sheet cake. The cakes were moist and flavorful. Nobody could agree on their favorite because they were all so good!

Bywater Bakery did the cake and cookies for our wedding. The cake was not only delicious but so beautiful! A member of their team did an amazing job decorating our cake with flowers from our florist, Leaf+Petal. The chocolate chip cookies were gone in a matter of seconds and people still rave about how good they were. We also loved that we were able to pay for the tiered cake and sheet cake as a total vs by the slice like some other bakeries. Additionally, Sara was a joy to work with every step of the way from answering our questions to the tasting to collaborating with our wedding coordinator and florist.
Highly recommend Bywater Bakery for any events needs!

Ordered some king cakes while in town. Super yummy! We tried the regular carnival, cheesecake, and praline king cakes. Cant go wrong with any of those! They also have the best chocolate chip cookies my family has ever tried - and that’s saying a lot (we have some extreme cookie lovers). Would definitely recommend

Fabulous experience with Bywater Bakery for our wedding! They made a delicious gluten-free and dairy-free strawberry coconut cake which may have been the best dessert I’ve ever tasted - feedback we also received from guests with no dietary restrictions. They also made a variety of king cakes that were phenomenal. Can’t recommend enough!! We loved it so much we went back to the bakery the day after our wedding for breakfast and more king cake!

Cute spot. Nice outdoor seating available. Fantastic customer service. The food seemed a bit dry and lacked flavor. Could have just been the morning we were there. Yaka Mein was pretty good. Coffee was super strong which was fantastic.

i have been here a handful of times now and i LOVE it every time. it has such a quaint and neighborly vibe that can’t be found many places. it’s also a quick and easy walk to the river which is nice. they currently have all outdoor seating and occasional bands will be playing as well. i also reallllly enjoy their chantilly king cake!

We wanted to find the best Kings cake in the area. This place kept popping up on lists. We made a stop and it was fantastic. Lots of people seated outside… the line moved quickly and it was tasty. I bought a shirt here and so many locals recognized it and chatted me up about how much they love the place too!

Bywater Bakery is one of my favorite cafes in New Orleans and they did an amazing job with our wedding cake! They were very easy to communicate with and made a 'to-go' tasting for us to take to our catering appointment. They created a petite 2 layer wedding cake for us along with 3 half sheet cakes because we had such a hard time deciding on flavors and wanted to serve Doberge cake as well. I can't recommend them enough and am so happy with how the cake turned out and a big bonus was that it was very affordable pricing especially for how delicious it was!

I stopped by Bywater Bakery first thing on a Friday morning since I had read about their bagels on their website and wanted to make sure I got some!
When I arrived, I was told that they don't make bagels during King Cake Season, which though understandable, is disappointing, especially since the bagels are advertised on their website, and there isn't anything on there that specifies that this is the case. As a visitor to New Orleans, this (King Cake Season) isn't something I was aware of, so a note on the website would have been very helpful!
In any event, I decided to purchase a slice of King Cake (they had one vegan option) as well as the Tofu Scramble. The Tofu Scramble is served over grits, which was a first for me (I'm from the Northeast), but was surprisingly good!
The King Cake was DELICIOUS and now I'm tempted to go back and buy an entire cake.
Overall, they have some nice options. The staff is friendly and clearly were hustling and working hard. It was clear from the line (six people deep right when they opened) that this is a fixture in this neighborhood and community; I can understand why! :)

People literally formed a huge line at our shower to get cake. It all disappeared, and many people didn't get to try it because we ran out. Super happy with the taste and the design. 10 out of 10 would order again from you guys. Thank you!!!
