Reviews of BEARCAT CAFE UPTOWN

Stopped in on the Saturday of essence festival and overall my group was satisfied. When we originally got there, it was very crowded and we were told that the wait would be 1 hour and 30 minutes. The hostess added us to the wait list, took our phone number, and told us she would call when the food was ready. We decided to run an errand while we waited and only 40 minutes had passed before she was calling to tell us our table was ready.
When we finally sat down, the service was pretty good to say they closing in and hour and the food was fresh. I can appreciate being able to see the cooks prepare the food. Really nice vibe and a really good spot to try if you’re vegan. I would come back when I visit Nola again.
I don’t really have a complaint, but I will say I would probably not get the crab scramble again. It was not nasty, just not something I would like to have again. The trumpet scallops on the other hand ? I would definitely come back and order that. It is not pictured but my friend let me try hers and everything was seasoned very well !!!!

When we arrived there was a wait. The hostess offered to call the other location to see if we could get in without a wait. That was very nice. We walked around the neighborhood while we waited and the area is very cute. They have LOTS of vegan options and pretty much something for everyone. I had the mushrooms and shrimp. It could've used a little more seasoning but was good. The biscuits and mushroom gravy was really good. Shrimp and grits was delicious. The kids really enjoyed the pancakes. My son also really liked the BLT with avocado. Service was OK and it was FREEZING in the restaurant. Overall a good choice and we would go back, with a sweater.

LOVED this place! Came here while visiting New Orleans with my sister who is vegan. I’m not vegan but really enjoy vegan food. This restaurant had something for everyone - omnivores, vegetarians, vegans, even paleo. We both got vegan dishes and what we had was awesome. So flavorful, great textures, etc. Good coffee too. We came around mid morning on a Tuesday and while we didn’t have to wait there was a decent crowd, so if there’s a crowd even at off times I have to think this place must be very popular. Definitely worth a visit not only for vegans but for anyone seeking a great breakfast!

All the food is cooked to order! The cooks are talented I was able to watch the entire process at the bar. Request Trey he’s a great waitress. He gave us some bomb recommendations to try. He even recommended this meal we chose and it was so freaking yummy. I picked this place to eat at for brunch and was unsure but once arrived I had no doubt I chose good. You must try this place and I forgot to mention it’s a total vibe. They play hip hop music.

I can definitely see why this place may be crowded on a regular day. Went on a Wednesday morning for brunch and as you can see it was pretty full. Their juices and coffees are freshly squeezed and brewed, respectively. Upon receiving my food I was not prepared for how delicious it was. The shrimp and grits was the best I have ever had, even though it had the tails on the shrimp, the wonderful portion of grits to shrimp and gravy made up for it. The potatoes were an amazing large portion for the price. The waitress explained they are boiled, smashed, then deep fried. They gave so much, I had left overs which I ate at work the next day. Upon heating it up, people had to ask me where did I get them from because it smelled sooooo good! I highly recommend this place. Allergy friendly. Only downside is because it is up uptown, and in a neighborhood, the parking was difficult, but not impossible.

Excellent food, service, and fun and groovy atmosphere!
MANY VEGAN OPTIONS - would love to come back for these, even though I'm a meathead - but I love healthy food.
I loved the cat theme of the menu!!
Coffee line was frozen over but the manager was kind enough to explain the whole situation and be as accommodating as he could be. Drip coffee was very tasty!
I got the cat daddy biscuit and my partner got the shrimp and grits. Both were portions that made us comfortably full, perfect!
Chicken had a deep golden brown fry, gravy was rich and complex with crawfish bits peppered throughout, and the egg was a perfect sunny side up. Would only have requested a bigger biscuit because it was so good and I don't think it was able to shine as much as the other items on the dish.
The same can be said for the shrimp and grits - rich flavors that blended perfectly.

Sunday brunch, started off with the creole crab dish which was sooo good. Then since I eat a lot I got two entrees, the brisket hash and the Cajun gravy biscuit. The picture of the hash is kind of deceiving and even surprised me while eating it. As you can see you have your breakfast potatoes and your egg in the hole, but what you don’t see is underneath that is gravy and some kind of meat (I guess what they’re calling brisket, not what I’d call it though). It was very good once I realized the combination of everything on the plate, it was very savory and paired well. The Cajun gravy biscuit was great as well, my complaints being it’s a single biscuit cut in half (I hate when you get a single biscuit with “biscuits and gravy” and the bottom half of the biscuit was kind of hard also.
We arrived around 2 (they close at 3) and were put on the list. Once they called us they gave the choice of sitting outside or at the bar, so we chose outside since it was nice and overcast the whole 30 mins we waited. That was a mistake!!
If you’re given the choice SIT INSIDE!!!! The sun came out of no where and made the last part of our meal unpleasant, we couldn’t wait to get the check.
Price on all of my food:
Creole crab dip $17
Brisket hash $12
Cajun gravy biscuit $12
I’ll definitely be back again, but definitely would not recommend sitting outside.

The best restaurant in New Orleans! Both the Shrimp & Grits and Mushrooms & Grits were delicious!
I also tried the Butterfly Matcha Latte. It was really beautiful and slightly sweet. Worth trying once but not something I'd get again.

This place was AMAZING in good but be prepared to wait A LONG FREAKING TIME for a table. It doesn’t matter what day, you’re gonna wait longer than 30 minutes. We waited an hour fifteen…, hence the four stars versus five. BUT, the food was well worth the wait. Especially if you’re gluten and dairy free. There are tons of options, the cave breakfast was my favorite.

Bearcat never disappoints. We started with the fresh ricotta and honey with lavish. It was light and delicious. We then split the breakfast potatoes with poached eggs; perfectly cooked. Super flavorful. My friend got the blueberry pancakes and they were phenomenal. I got regular pancakes and they were great.
