Delicious and authentic southern food in the heart of Music City!! This spot IS DELICIOUS. Please get the Chicken Fried Chicken and Mac…it blew my mind. The bread pudding is also a must! Service here is wonderful and they have a good selection of items to choose from as well. It’s in the heart of downtown Nashville and within walking distance to bars, shops, and the nightlife.

By far one of the best steakhouses I have ever been to! I did a lot of research to make sure we had a great Birthday celebration while we were in Nashville and I am very happy with this choice. The filet was delicious, our server Eric was exceptional, everyone was nice/friendly and the restaurant was clean! The prices were reasonable for the area, portions and quality. I highly recommend this restaurant... we will be back!

So I’ll start by saying it could be that they are dealing with the effects of Covid and being understaffed BUT we had a group of 12 and reservations. We were sat right away. Took a minute to get our drink order in. Then once we got the food order in we waited over 1.5hr! We had a mix up with oyster orders and the waiter was a little flippant over something that was not our fault. They had someone bringing out food (seemed like his first day) dressed in regular street clothes walking around with plates looking confused. Food was good, at least mine was. We had been given high reviews in form of a referral when this place was recommended. Nice restaurant very appealing to the eye but we were disappointed with how long it took to get our food. We were at the restaurant for over 2 hrs when all was said and done.

Liked this place a lot! Delicious food. Liked the oysters, shrimp and grits, delicious biscuits. Staff was very attentive and friendly. They had great live music while we were there, and they had TVs going for sports games.

Bbq shrimp app was good! You get about 5-6 shrimp. Old fashioned and strawberry cocktail were both good Steak seemed to be a little more done that medium, but it’s mostly from the age. Overall great place! We arrived 15 minutes before they opened with no reservation and were seated at approximately 5pm!

Delightful Southern food with enough gourmet to please the picky one. These are, honestly, the BEST ribs in Nashville (I ordered them dry). Sweet potato grits and the smoked Gouda grits were silky smooth. The Farmers Plate (vegan fare) was fresh with great variety. The Meatloaf absolutely disappeared! The specialty cocktails (specifically the Amaretto coffee) was excellent and the Old Fashioned was just right.

Food was so yummy. I had the fish special: pan seared halibut. Absolutely loved our server. Very attentive, great sense of humor. Busy place. Hostess was kind enough to watch my luggage during dinner. My colleagues had the market vegetable plate and the shrimp and grits and said they were great.

We stumbled upon this restaurant and we are so glad we stopped! Our server was excellent (wish we remembered her name) and the food was so good! We were there for brunch and I got the shrimp and grits (I recommend) and my friend got the steak Benedict (I think). We came pretty hungry and both commented about portion sizes wanting them to be just a tad larger. We did have dessert and it was very good. There is lovely background music and the atmosphere is really elegant.

Deliciousness!! Ive been here three times now and it never disappoint. This time we had the chicken fried chicken, meatloaf and the Nashville Tennessee chicken fried chicken. Great service and atmosphere. We sat outside and could enjoy the party busses going by and atmosphere.

Excellent entrees and apps.... ribs with sweet potato fries were outstanding... fried oysters were tender and full of flavor...strip steak was cooked perfectly medium-rare... still, can't shake feeling it was a bit over-priced for the setting (150+ pp), which has a pub vibe.

Everything about this place was right. The oysters are so fresh and delicious. The “Belle” filet was amazing and their bread rolls are out of this world. Totally recommend their bread pudding with dark Chocolate Gelato. Service was amazing and fast. Loved it!

OUTSTANDING. We have always loved The Southern and yet again it did not disappoint. The chicken salad was the best deal on the menu, the shrimp appy was soooo very tasty with a bit of a kick (be sure to ask for more of the grilled baguette) as you will want to sop up the left over sauce!! Service is tremendous and the oyster selection, oh the oysters, are varied and EXTREMELY FRESH! We have oyster farms 5 minutes from our home on the West Coast and know fresh, and these oysters were Fresh! Love, ❤️, love The Southern, we hope to return soon!

The Southern Steak & Oyster is an absolutely fantastic restaurant. This place is PACKED and so the wait can be awhile even with a reservation. Parking is incredibly easy with the Pinnacle parking garage right next to the restaurant. The restaurant can validate up to a 3-hour parking if you dine in. Now for the food. The food is incredible. The deviled eggs are delicious, with a thick chunk of sweet, candied bacon on top to add a sweet and savory taste to the already delicious egg. The steak biscuits are made with a fantastic blue cheese biscuit, extremely tender steak, and a horseradish Demi glacé. The fried Brussels sprouts are charred and fried really well, and the crispy pieces are covered in a spicy, creamy aioli. The oysters are of course amazing. Extremely fresh and served chilled. The main courses are also amazing. The fish and grits is a rotating first served with sweet potato grits and a bacon braised cabbage. The first is so soft and tender and the sweet grits pair well with it. The barbecue ribs entree CANNOT be slept on. These are probably the best ribs I’ve had in Nashville, and that’s really saying something. The rib bones can’t even stay in the meat as you lift them up. The meat is so tender and has a delicious onion and tomato barbecue sauce. While it is served with sweet potato fries, this full slab of ribs will fill you up. The dry aged strip steak was wonderful. Aged 21 days, it is served with a delicious pepper and garlic butter, delicious mashed potatoes, and nicely sautéed green beans. The meat was cooked perfectly to order (we did medium). I wish I could have tried the meatloaf but they were out. I will definitely get this next time as this is the most popular entrée. Overall, this was an absolutely delightful restaurant experiences, one of the best in Nashville. Highly recommend.

It was alright. It was a busy Thursday night. Our starters came out quickly. We had Brussels, oysters, and gumbo. It was good, but nothing spectacular. We ordered the Nudie Suits for dinner. The steaks were cold! The sides were lukewarm. I really don’t understand why the steak was cold. Out of all the steaks I’ve had in Nashville, none have come out cold. Bummer.

I hosted a private corporate party at the Southern in one of their private rooms. The planning was seemless with their event coordinator. They were kind and empathetic. The space we were in was very nice and big enough to fit 25. They offered us a prix fix dinner option, and every single part was a hit. Their New South Caeser Salad was *chef's kiss*, and I had the Filet Mignon which legitimately melted in your mouth. My coworker and I shared entrees, and she had the chicken fried chicken, which was so rich and decadent. Dessert was a banana bread pudding that was absolutely to die for. The entire time our server was incredible - quick, responsive, and friendly. Very impressed!

Derek is a fantastic bar tender and was great conversation. Rodney is the best oyster shucker north of the Gulf Coast! Thank you for such a great experience! A rustic, loud atmosphere. BBQ Shrimp appetizer had no essence of BBQ. Basically blanched shrimp in broth with toasted baguette. Smoked Baby back ribs were exceptional. Fall off the bone and not too smokey with just the right amount of BBQ sauce. Best of all, food was served piping hot even without me asking it. Delightful crisp, hot sweet potato fries Good wine list though by the glass is limited. BTW - Oysters here, though a nice variety, are even more expensive that Eddie V's!

The Southern Steak and Oyster restaurant exceeded our expectations. Conveniently located within walking distance of the majority of the hotels located in the entertainment district. The restaurant has something for everyone on their menu. We started our meal with a House Salad and a side of Shrimp. For our entrées we ordered the Double Cut Pork Chops with a side of French Fries. The food was hot and fresh and prepared as we requested. This is definitely a must do when you are in town

All of the food was delicious and we had a little of a lot of it! The waiter was very knowledgeable and helped pick out the best drinks. Would recommend to everyone. The atmosphere was great and it was a Monday evening so it was not crowded at all.

Great location in heart of downtown Nashville. In walking distance to many major hotels and venues such as Music Hall of Fame and the Arena. Outside seating. As the name implies, menu has variety of surf and turf options. Check out the pork chop! Massive with great smoky flavor. Meatloaf is a specialty and very tasty. Excellent service and wine list. Enjoyed photos of many famous people. Four stars only because we sat near kitchen in back and was bit noisy.

We had the filet on mashed potatoes with a side of cabbage, a cup of gumbo (no photo), and porkchops on mashed potatoes and collard greens. To drink we had a 'blackberry mountain tea' and a 'once in a lifetime'. I highly recommend everything we ordered. The gumbo was not soupy but thicker like gravy and was delicious with the biscuits they serve. Steak and porkchops were crispy on the outside and flavorful inside. Mashed potatoes and cabbage were the bomb.com. Seriously, go here.

Wow. I was extremely impressed by this place. Outstanding food, the oysters are among the freshest in town with a variety available. There is a happy hour special where you can get a dozen for $20 between 3pm-6pm. The smoked eggs were delicious and arrived in moments. The Southern burger was seriously one of the best in town. Great bacon, juicy burger, tasty crispy straws, and the pimento cheese really set it over the top. The service was totally on point. Sat at the bar and they all were friendly, warm, and efficient. Overall layout was easy to navigate, and it had a nice laid back touch among the hustle and bustle of downtown Nashville. A++

Parked downtown at the bank building next door and the parking attendant recommended my aunt and I stop by for a late dinner. There was a 45 min wait or so, but I would have waited double that as it was AWESOME! The Brussels are the best I’ve ever had and ditto that on the meatloaf. I love the grits they are served on top as well, so fluffy and light. Am really ready to go back and try the steak and biscuits I noticed on the app menu.

The Southern Steak & Oyster is definitely a good place to try in downtown Nashville. I dined at the bar and ordered the Dry-Aged strip that came with mashed potatoes, green beans, and shallot sauté. Food was delicious and the price was fair. If I am ever in the area I will return.

Pretty buzzing atmosphere close to Broadway. Don’t worry this isn’t an overpriced tourist steakhouse here to steal your money... well at least I didn’t think so. Think of a slightly more upscale restaurant, with the loudness of people still yelling at the bar and everyone drinking and having a good time. The steaks were delicious, the portions were huge, and the prices were fair. It was one of the better steaks i’ve had in awhile. I highly recommend going big while you’re there. The drinks were also fantastic, they have some talent behind the bar. However the service was lackluster, which isn’t a big deal considering it was Friday night but we found ourselves constantly waiting on things. We ordered 4 medium steaks between us, two of them came out medium rare which worked for us since we like the fine line, but the other two didn’t have a sliver of red, and came out medium well. It’s a great place to have a good time, with its relative location to downtown bars and hotels, but the quality control could use a nudge. For the pricing point of spending about $70 for myself, I at LEAST expect that our steaks are cooked remotely near to how we ordered. It is a possibility though that they sat under the heat lamp while our server was swamped too. Overall, I would strongly recommend anyone wanting a great steak to give this place a try

Food and drinks were out of the park! Only disappointing part was server (Caitlin) wasn't particularly interested in serving. She took our app order and didn't ask about our food order for quite a while. She also said on two occasions that we would be getting some bread. The tables around us got some and we never saw any. I didn't get asked if i needed another drink until after our food came and I sat empty for about 15 minutes. Overall good experience, really wish i could have tasted that bread though..

Sunday 10/09/2022 12:30pm came in the sunday brunch crowd had the place pretty packed sat at the bar think I must have caught the bartenders at a break time because it did take and extraordinary amount of time to get any service but once the bartenders returned service was fine. The bloody mary, the catch of the day sandwich which was halibut and the sweet potato fries were phenomenal with the halibut blacken to perfection being the star. Definitely will eat there at least once every time I visit nashville

Great place for a nice dinner with the gf. There was a bit of a wait since we had no reservations. But we managed fine by having drinks at the bar. We had the Dominican Pork and an app. The Chicken Fried Chicken was great! The ambiance of the location and the service was excellent as well. I will say we were next to a rowdy table; but nothing that would have ruined our evening. Overall, we were very happy with our choice. Originally we had planned to go elsewhere, but those plans fell through. Walking around we bumped into this place. Now that we know about it, we’d happily return. Side note, the server brought a basket of biscuits to the table. I gotta say it was one of the best biscuits we’ve had (save for Loveless Cafe, of course).

A friend and I enjoyed lunch here while traveling. They have great service, friendly staff and the quality of the food was perfect. It's casual to classy with a great selection of wines and drinks. We visit often and always enjoy getting a bite or desert when we're in town. They have great accommodations.

I gave this restaurant a four star for the following reasons: Customer Service: I made a reservation over the phone for lunchtime... 11:15. My name was not requested at the time of the booking or number of guests. Luckily, I was dining solo. However, when I showed up, this information was prompted for validation. It was both uncomfortable and an added inconvenience. I had to prove my credibility. However, I was quickly seated in less than 3 mins. The waiter approached right away. Once food was ordered, it was served in 11minutes. Food: I ordered a medium rare steak. While I was not pleased with the presentation of the food, it was delicious. My steak was cooked closer to medium but it was perfectly seasoned. I also ordered an Amaretto Sour. A steak knife was not provided with my meal. However, my waiter stopped by about 2minutes after my food arrived, noticed the missing silverware and brought it to my table. My water was also filled as needed. Ambuence: The lunchtime crowd started arriving at about 11:45. I will certainly recommend a reservation. I work in the area and the crowd is of mostly local downtown working class. Parking: I parked in the Pinnacle parking building. And I entered the restaurant from the back. Parking is free for restaurant guests. The ticket is validated at the front counter. Overall, it was a good experience!

The dinner we had was overall a great one, with one weak spot: the deviled eggs appetizer was sad looking, hard and overall just bad. However, the blue cheese steak appetizer was delicious, as was the T-bone steak that was cooked to a medium-rare perfection.

Service in Nashville is some of the best service I have ever had ANYWHERE. Everyone is so genuine and friendly without being pushy or intrusive. Southern steak and Oyster is no exception. The waitstaff was lovely. The space is great. Love the bar, the look and the feel of seating "in the round", the booth area, etc. Breakfast was a OK.. I wasn't crazy about my friends Brisket (dry and weird block texture), the side potatoes were on the colder and sitting around soggy side. My crab omelet however was pretty fluffy and tasty.

Fresh farm to table vibe. Great lunch menu. Had the blackened grouper sandwich, tho not as good as those in the keys- it was still very tasty. The service was excellent here. I sat at the bar, and though the bartender was exceptionally busy- he was still very attentive. Will definitely come back.

The Southern is a downtown Nashville place where locals go to eat. There are plenty of tourists as well, but you know if it’s a local favorite it has to be good. The bathrooms are honestly too few for ladies but you have to go to see the movie they have going to keep you occupied and I always seem to have nice conversations with people in line. Our favorite dishes there are the ribs, the BBQ shrimp (not that spicy), the blue cheese and steak biscuits. The blue cheese flavor is subtle) Don’t pass on the offered bread at your table because they are small pops of cheesy herb biscuits that will get your mouth watering for what’s to come! If you still have room at the end, the bread pudding is great but you have to dip it in the sauce on your plate for the full flavor. Enjoy!

Very cute place! I enjoyed our lunch -- The Southern was very accommodating for our party of 10, from the complementary valet parking to the speedy service and informative wait staff. The menu items were very good and had charming names like "My Way" or "The Highway" 😂 Overall, just a very fun & very delicious experience! I had the Southern Fried Egg sandwich, which was very good & the Chocolate Cardamom Cream Bar, which was unique and SO GOOD. I would highly recommend this place for their food, atmosphere, and quality of service.

The Southern is much more than steak and oysters! I had the fish special with grouper happily substituted for the salmon, no issue in the kitchen. A nicely cooked piece of fish on a bed of rice, carrots, brussel sprouts, shallots and onions - very tasty. My wife had the filet mignon sliders, which she liked a lot, with a side of asparagus. We both enjoyed the hearts salad and gumbo for appetizers. Chocolate and pistachio gelato for dessert was wonderful. Service was very good, don't to ask for changes or substitutions.

I went here with my partner on a Saturday night through a reservation. We ordered their soup of the day, which was New Orleans style chili. The soup was perfectly spicy with a right amount of crunchiness. I ordered the lamp chop, which was perfectly cooked at the right temperature. My partner ordered their scallops, which was also amazing. You would be surprised to receive such high quality food for the price they charge, compared to similar restaurants downtown. If you’re looking for a fine-dining in a casual setting with a date, the southern is certainly the place for you. Finally, shout out to the server who was extremely attentive to every customer he was in charge of.

Started the night with a dozen grilled oysters, half lemon and half Cajun seasoned. The taste was good, however the oysters were about the size of a quarter. Had charbroiled oysters before, and they were much larger than what I had yesterday night. I had the dry aged strip steak, and my wife had the filet mignon. I wanted medium, and my wife wanted medium rare. The doneness was switched. Her filet mignon was tender, but my steak was lightly rough. The best part, food-wise, were the sides of bacon braised cabbage, and collard greens. Overall, average experience. Might have been a bad time to go because it was Saturday night. I was slightly underwhelmed to the point where taking pics of the food felt unnecessary. Do not feel motivated enough to give this place a second chance.

Wow! My family hosted a large dinner party and this place was FANTASTIC. First time ever eating Shrimp and Grits... ate the whole plate and half my husband’s steak! It was THAT good. Our servers were fast and friendly and overall it was truly a wonderful experience.

This was the best sit-down restaurant I have been to in a long time. The food was amazing. I ordered the Nashville hot chicken salad. What really made our meal memorable, was our waiter Phin. Great atmosphere in the middle of downtown Nashville. The Belle steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The Double Cut Smoked Pork Chop looks like it was cut from a T-Rex yet still so tender. Chicken Fried Chicken is also a great choice!

At first we were at at a table and had water dripping on us. Then we were moved tables to see them using a pole and a rag all night to wipe up the drips :( my steak was over cooked. The green beans were barely cooked along with the sweet potatoes. The drinks were good. I wouldn’t recommend this place for dinner. The bathroom faucet was broken with a sign taped on the mirror. Is this place going under? Or owned by Sizzler? I feel like the restaurant was trying too hard on image, but can’t keep up.

Aged strip steak, cooked Medium, was 'the' best steak I have ever had, split the dinner with hubby. It had a Big Butter spoonful on top. Not much to say that hasn't already been said! Excellent experience, definitely try this place out. Plan to spend $50 on a steak if you go; totally worth it. I ordered the T-bone with mashed potatoes and brussels sprouts and my date ordered the strip with mashed potatoes and green beans.. Every bit was amazing. Large portions (I ended up bringing half home to eat for another meal). We also tried the BBQ shrimp as an appetizer and it was great too. The banana bread dessert was just ok, but they had a few options to try. The atmosphere was surprisingly relaxed for the price point (not in a bad way), so don't feel like you need to dress up. Our server offered excellent suggestions on wines to pair with the steaks we ordered. PS- We did make reservations the same day (around lunch) and were able to secure a 7:45P dinner spot. Probably best to plan ahead rather than stopping by without a reservation. Might have to wait a bit. But worth the wait! The bar area seemed very inviting, though, so I wouldn't have minded waiting a bit.

I had dinner at the southern yesterday evening, and I didn't have the best experience. I ordered 3 different cocktails and didn't like any of them (the Juan lac one, the gin and orange one, and the sparkling wine spritzer). I wouldn't recommend cocktails here unless you're a whiskey fan. However, compliments to the server for taking all of them off the bill and getting me a glass of wine instead. We all had the scallops and got different sides (the potatoes, the mac and cheese, and the corn side it comes with). None of us enjoyed them...the food came out cold, some of the scallops were undercooked, and the asparagus was totally overcooked. Nice service (if you have a rez), but not good food and drinks.

Absolutely one of the best meals I've ever had, if not the best. Had the steak frites and green bean & shalot sauté and my husband had the 21-day aged strip steak with green bean sauté and mashed potatoes. The service was incredible, the atmosphere was wonderful, and it was a very short walk from the Omni hotel. If you're in Nashville, do yourself a favor and make a reservation. We also had 1/2 dozen oysters and they were outstanding. 5 stars doesn't so the food justice.

We had reservation for 8:30 and was able to get seated a little early. Great atmosphere, the drink list was unbelievable and hard to pick just one! The Caesar salad was enough to share with 2 if you wanted to split (loved the goat cheese on top of crouton). Cup of Gumbo was delicious but small for the price. Our main entrees were a full of flavor - Meatloaf with Gouda grits & Chicken Fried Chicken. Service was fast and didn't wait much. Our waiter Phin was friendly and great!

Every review is always based on my very own personal experience. So here it is... Restaurant was crowded, around 9pm, but there was room inside and outside. I approached the receptionist and inquired about seating, as a walk-in, for seven. Was told there wasn't any space. I stepped to the side trying to look around to figure out if I could look for other restaurants nearby. Immediately, not a second later,, another "group" came in and asked the same exact question for "their" group of seven. "They" were seated, inside, as I overhead the receptionist tell "them" they would make space. They were seated immediately. "Everybody else" that entered this restaurant after we did, had no problem being seated, as we stood to the side for about 10 minutes. I was appalled. The receptionist saw my face, as I began to approach her again. This time, before I even spoke, she said that they could make space for us "outside". So, we took it and waited for the tables to be pushed together. We waited another five minutes and were seated outside on the patio. We were all served water,, with ice,, and began looking at the menu. I saw the price of meatloaf alone, with no sides, was $31. My group and I decided after 5 minutes of being seated that this wasn't where we needed to be. All food downtown Nashville is double the price than it would be 10 minutes outside of the downtown area. Ans though we had been "warned" from previous patrons, we thought we'd give it a try. Three stars for the food that I saw and smelled on the plates of other patrons. Food did look ravishing. But to hell with $31 dollar meatloaf. No parking on the premises. Parking on the streets around the corner or a nearby garage would work. Be ready to pay at least $$$ per person, unless you just want to eat meatloaf with no sides, and drink water. Tip: maybe visit sometime before the sun sets, if this if where you prefer to dine!

We went during lunch/ dinner switch during the week and ate from the limited menu. There is no shortage of goodness on that list. Last night, Saturday, there was a 45 min wait so we went and ate off the full menu at the bar. I had "The Belle" it's a wonderful 8 oz. Filet atop their signature Mashed potatoes with mushrooms and asparagus. I highly recommend it. Adding another side makes the plate easy to split try the fried shrimp too.

This place is kind of expensive but SO good. We had some oysters, and then shrimp and grits, the waitor gave us this mango salsa that he said went good with it. It was PHENOMENAL the meal was awesome and then the salsa just took it up a notch. The waiter was helpful (especially the one that gave us the salsa, and he took the time to ask us how we were even though it was packed in there) and the drinks were good too. We also had the bread pudding and that was a really good end to out meal. We really enjoyed it! The live music was nice as well, don't find that much anymore. It was kind of loud, but again, it was packed. I would definitely eat here again

Outstanding brunch. My husband said they were the best eggs of his life. We can’t figure out how they make them so thick and fluffy. I had the steak Benedict which was very good. Get the Bloody Mary spicy - the mild one was too mild.

Food was absolutely delicious. We had reservations for 2 at 8:45. We were in the area around 5 and were starving so we just stopped to see if we could squeeze in earlier and they had no problem helping us out. I recommend a reservation though because they were busy! My husband had a perfect steak and I had chicken fried chicken. Food was quicky and fresh. Everything we ordered was spectacular. Will definitely be back when we are in town again.

Came from Seattle for niece’s graduation. Came to The Southern for cocktails and Kentucky Derby. Firstly, just the smell of bbq made me wish we were also having dinner there, and watching all the other diners eating gorgeous entrees made us clear we were coming back for full dinner soon. Even so, Brussel sprouts, bbq shrimp, oysters on the half shell and grilled… Delish! Excellent craft cocktails and stellar service. Will def be back.

Saffire Steak Biscuits... I can't stop thinking about them. Small portion, perfect for sharing as there are two and you fill up on it so you can eat delicious oysters. The steak is so tender that it melts in your mouth with each bite. Ashamed that I was too hunny to take a picture. The BBQ oysters were very good!

If you’re looking for a nice sit down meal without breaking the bank the Southern is perfect. Fantastic breakfast menu, and amazing dinner. Best oysters and seafood in the area by a long shot. Incredible whiskey selection and a wine list to satisfy the most savvy connoisseur. I would recommend reservations during the weekends and most dinners during the week. Spending 40 minutes at the bar isn’t a terrible experience though either.

Sat at the bar with a group of 4 and had a good time. Lots of drink options and a solid food menu. The Nashville hot chicken salad is great, but be wary if you're not big on salt or spices. Fresh oysters that are shucked right at the bar. Reminded me of restaurants in New Orleans. Great spot.

Really wanted to give this place 5 stars. The food and service were very good and it's a great whisky bar. The only issue I had was the diet coke they served with my cheeseburger was flat and the last thing I want to drink with that is water. I wonder if it inspired anyone to check the coke supply since it's also going into cocktails with premium liquor. I wasn't offered a fresh one.

Exceptional!!! Great atmosphere and very attentive service by the staff. The Oysters and Gumbo were both excellent starters and my Wind from the South salmon was fabulous. Those in our party of 8 that had steak raved about how good it was. We were all so full that none of us ordered dessert so cannot testify about that part of the menu but have to believe they are delicious if they are anything like the rest of our meal. The bar selections are awesome so you can get pretty much anything you want from the full wall of bottles. Great atmosphere, great service, & great food....just can't say enough good things about The Southern but can highly recommend it!!

This place never disappoints! My mom and I ate here and we had so much fun! Our waitress, Amanda, treated us wonderfully! She recommended yummy oysters, fabulous wine and even helped me to decide between 2 entrees. A great waitress, great good and great wine! It was a pretty busy restaurant the night we went. With reservations, we waited over an hour for food. They oysters were pretty small. Some of our table’s food came out cold. The staff accommodated though by offering us a free round and replacing a cold filet mignon. Hands down, the chicken on the dinner menu was the best thing there. Very savory! Would recommend more salt/pepper though as some of the sides were bland. Overall a good experience!

Oh, my GOODNESS! I was thrilled with the food and service. It was my first time trying Beausoleil oysters, which Derek described perfectly for us. They were so fresh and flavorful. I never put anything on my oysters, but their house hot sauce (called Peace and something or other) was a phenomenal pairing. My hot chicken salad was mind-blowing and more than enough for two if you want something light. Derek is an excellent, personable, and attentive bartender. He made us feel right at home. We also spoke to Matthew who was serving other tables, but still made a point to engage with us and make us feel welcome. He has such a kind spirit. Southern has such a beautiful atmosphere to compliment the deliciously creative food. Thank you guys for your hard work. I pray you thrive through this crazy time in our industry!

In town visiting for a conference. Friend had recommended. HANDS DOWN best service, meal and drinks we have had in a long time. Our server David was easily the best server I've had in quite awhile, I mean AWHILE. He was super knowledgeable about the drinks, the food, the specials and even took the time to give us some local recommendations. If you don't go for anything but an awesome experience with David, you'll leave satisfied and well taken care of! He even helped create a special mock-tail for my preggo wifey. My wife got the strip steak. DELICIOUS. I got the special of the day - pork porterhouse. DELICIOUS too, and also recommended by David. Thank you David and thank you chefs of The Southern! One of the best restaurants I’ve been at. Our waitress was amazing. Our waters were midway empty and were filled with a quickness. Food arrived on time appropriately. We asked for hot sauce and she brought us 4 different kinds. She knew when to leave us alone and when to ask if we needed anything. Customer service was beyond amazing. The food was excellent. I had the steak eggs Benedict and it was one of the most delicious things I’ve eaten. It came with a simple salad and potato wedges. The salad was dressed with oil and vinegar (I presumed). It was great and worked with the poached eggs, the steak, biscuit, and hollandaise sauce. My sister had the crab cake hash and that was also delicious; well favored and with a slight spicy kick. The food was also appropriately portioned.The atmosphere was chill and laid back. There was live music playing as you walk in. From the servers, to the waiters, to the bartenders, to the decors, and sitting, everything seemed purposeful and the ambiance was warm and welcoming. I would highly recommend this to anyone especially to a Nashville virgin.

We went to the Southern for my boyfriend’s 30th birthday trip up to Nashville and wanted to go for dinner because we’d heard such good things. I mentioned it in our reservation confirmation about it being his 30th birthday and how I wanted to order a special dessert, which they acknowledged at the hostess stand. But after dinner, they never even offered to let us see the dessert menu. Honestly, the food was fantastic. But the front of the house service was no bueno. Just be honest. We asked for espresso (which they didn’t have) so we got coffee and tried to order grand marnier for our after-dinner drinks. Instead we got two sniffers of a clear liquid that smelled of orange. When we held it up to the waiter, he said “I know, I know” and when we asked what it was, the server admitted he tried to give us Cointreau without saying anything. The dishonesty is a damn shame and ruined an otherwise awesome meal. Shame on you, The Southern.

We walked in on a Friday night. The wait was an hour. We easily grabbed some drinks at the bar then found a seat near the hostess stand inside. We did wait close to an hour for our table. They took us to a private room, which I was a little bummed about because it wasn’t as pretty as the main restaurant area. Our server was very nice & attentive. We ordered another round of drinks which took a while to come out. For an appetizer we ordered the Dominican Pork. It was very good. Tasted & flavored just like Caribbean pork. I ordered the BBQ shrimp & the southern wedge salad. The salad came with these bacon lardons that were delicious. The shrimp was great, had a nice subtle New Orleans kick to it. My boyfriend got the chicken fried chicken & it was so delicious. I’d definitely come back just for that chicken. All in all, great place. Prepare to spend some money & prepare to wait if you don’t book a reservation.

We had a reservation but ended up downtown an ready to eat about 45 minutes early. We were seated right away. Food was great, but the sever did not remind my husband about menu items with dairy after he adjusted his order to accommodate his allergy. Service overall was great but a bit slow. I am new to Nashville, tried this place on a Friday night. Had a reservation and was seated right away. Jason (from Texas in case there is another Jason) was our server and he was excellent. Restaurant was busy, but service was still awesome. We both ordered steak frites and the steak came out more medium rare than medium which is okay, it was still delicious. Jason was great recommending drinks, i will fer sure be back!

Based on the other reviews, I must have caught this place on an off-night. The food was expensive and mediocre: my steak was very tough and difficult to chew. The drinks were delicious. We were looking for a place for a group of friends to catch up having not seen each other in a very long time. It was far too loud for this. It’s fine. I had a good time. I just wouldn’t go again for anything other than drinks. And the desserts sounded great, so maybe dessert too.

Food was fantastic, service was good. Went for weekend brunch. Oysters on the half shell, mimosas all around (there was a group of us). We got there early, and were able to get seated 15min before our reservation. Bar service was a little slow, but not a big deal. Prices were fair. I ordered shrimp and grits. It was a bigger portion and better tasting (and more shrimp) than the restaurant group's other venture, Fin and Pearl. Overall, service could have been a smidge better, but this place definitely lives up to the hype.

Lighting could be better. The menu is downloaded on an app and you have to look at an image of the menu. Script would be much better. On Android it wouldn't expand so I had to screenshot so I i could enlarge it. Menu isn't the best format. They have sides already paired with entreés so you have to substitute what you want. Not a big deal but the waiter seemed a little put off when asked to do it. Lets just go ahead and address that. Instead of discussing the menu, he asked if we were ready and just told us he'd be back. Not sure where he was going but it must have been a long way. He really acted like we were more of an inconvenience. We weren't familiar with the menu so it did take a minute to go through it. Google maps needs to update the price to $$$$. A couple is going to spend $100. The 14 day dry aged strip would have been better with a little more discretion when buying the meat. It was a little tougher than it should be and they didn't bother to trim the silver skin off so there was some gristle to deal with. Presentation was nice but I'm not a big fan of my steak being stacked on the sides, green beans mashed into the potatoes under the steak. They don't have baked potatoes which was odd. They also didn't serve bread with the salad or the meal. The meatloaf had a wonderful flavor and was probably the best meal at the table. The wait for food was acceptable but the wait for the check and drinks was longer than it should have been.

Went with a large group of people for a work function. We had a limited menu as everything was paid for by a vendor. Food was excellent. Portion sizes were great. Mixed drinks were very good. Its okay. Overpriced and poor service. Inconsistent with the cooking of steak (both ordered medium rare, one of us got medium and the other well done) service was slow and waiter was inattentive. Didn't refill beverages, food runners brought all of our food and we saw our waiter for around 10 words for the 2 hours we were there (also seemed like food took foreverrrrrr) until the check came and then he was well spoken and made eye contact finally. For $150 meal (we don't even drink so this was steaks, salads, and an app) I was disappointed.

Great place in downtown. Large open room with a large 2 sided bar in the rear area. Was there on a Sunday night and the place was very busy, we ended up sitting at the bar. Bar tenders were excellent making great drinks. I cannot comment on the steaks as we only had seafood which was well prepared and very tasty. Place is not cheap but the quality is worth it.

Very busy but we were seated very close to our reservation time. Waitress had a few tables seated at the same time and it took a while for her to take our drink order and too long to actually get them to our table. That would be my biggest complaint. Once food was ordered both the appetizers and main course both arrived at the table in a timely manner. A bit pricey for my liking but overall an enjoyable experience.

Very good food. The egg sandwich with fries was awesome and the burger with an egg was passable. Hot chicken salad was different but very tasty. My wife likes the crab cake hash while, I didn't care for them. I had lipstick on my water glass, luckily I noticed before taking a drink . The waiter was very apologetic and quickly replaced it with a fresh glass. The Bloody Mary Shooter was unique and great. Good Bloody Marys too.

Great place for breakfast, brunch, dinner, and drinks. Drinks are very well done and the brunch menu is very good. Drinks were brought less than 5-6 minutes, and food was brought in less than 15 minutes. Not to mention the food was delicious! If you're looking for a place with great food and drinks that's doesn't have the annoyance of Broadway crowds, then check this place out. It is popular so I'm not saying you'll never have to wait, but it doesn't have the herds of wandering tourists crowded along the sidewalk at the front door. Be sure to say hello to Derek and Janie they're awesome people.

The southern was incredible! We originally were looking at Acme feed and seed (their sister restaurant) but they didn’t make reservations and I had a rather large party. The southern was very accommodating. The food was so good. I got the hot chicken salad which was so good and definitely not a healthy salad lol a lot of my friends had gotten the filet mignon and I tried some and it was sooooo good and I’m not much of a steak eater. My mom got the meatloaf and that was also delicious. Would definitely come back here if I was in Nashville again.

Nice place to have brunch with friends and family. Best part it had a movie playing on the bathroom wall. It was like my TCM on the go! Also it had basketball games on so I was able to enjoy my company as well my games. Service was wonderful. Only take away the brunch menu don't have a big selection on the weekends. I ordered the gravy and biscuits and left satisfied. Even though it's a limited menu it was very good food. Would like to come back with my spouse. Hint: Need to bring my own cup for the lemonade! The double cut smoked pork chop was perhaps the best I've ever had! Juicy and delicious, it was cooked and flavored to perfection. The accompanying collard greens and mashed potatoes were perfectly prepared as well. Great place right off Broadway to get away from the craziness and bar food scene and enjoy some quality entrees.

Went for Friday happy hour oysters $20 for a dozen. Good deal if you're on a budget but bar service was slow and a bit confused. Blackberry Mountain Tea was good and flavorful. Took a while for our oysters and many had shell pieces in them. Not very flavorful, but we're spoiled being from New England. I'd skip this.

Delicious downtown restaurant! I've never had a bad meal and the service is excellent. We usually order mid-price oysters and they're so tasty. You can get an excellent price on them during their lunch specials! If you have room for dessert, I recommend the bananas foster bread pudding.

Great food, surprisingly fast service. Especially considering we were there right before playoff hockey game. The stakes are magnificent, and the people that were with really love the oysters. The fried green tomatoes were a flop. Wouldn't recommend them. Otherwise excellent place to go in downtown Nashville, I loved sitting outside and being out basically on the sidewalk. Pretty good craft beer selection also. Several local Brews, a friend of ours went with the Jackalope. Brown ale, they said it was really good.

My friend and I stopped by for a quick bite before a concert. Although there was a wait, we were seated quickly and our waiter did a great job of getting us in and out as well. The only reason I'm leaving 4 stars is because we were not informed there would be a fee for splitting a plate. (my friend and I split a cheeseburger with fries and added an extra side.) Other than that, it was wonderful!

There are not enough superlatives to describe our trip to the Southern. We arrived about 4:30 (during the anytime menu) and started with drinks, recommended by our server, and oysters. We asked our server, the incomparable Landon, what other appetizer we should get to go with the oysters. His recommendation of the crab cakes was perfect. They are topped with a hominy relish that took them to a new level. Landon's service never missed a beat the entire time we dined. His suggestions for our dinner were delicious. Pack a serious appetite if you order the porkchops, they are HUGE and perfectly cooked. The mashed potatoes were creamy goodness. The chicken fried chicken was light and juicy a wonderful ham gravy on top. Substituting the greens for the butternut squash was a delicious choice. Our only regret was having no room for dessert! Next time, Southern. Next time!

The best dining experience ever! Fresh salty oysters served with all the sides. Filet mignon medium rare cooked to perfection. Light seasoning and mix of just right amount if crispy and sauteed onions perfect accompaniment. Fresh baked biscuits and a chocolate cake to die for! It was a pretty busy night but we were able to be seated right away. The server was very nice and attentive. Other people came by to help with refills and see if we needed anything so that was nice. The food was delicious! My only regret was that I didn't get the steak like my boyfriend did, but I will next time!

Loved the energy and decor in this place. The owner touched our table a couple of times and was very friendly and gracious. Great wait staff provides excellent menu recommendations and service throughout the meal, without being bothersome. Sides were tasty and everyone at our table loved their entree. The ribeye should not be omitted from consideration, it is Delicious. Will definitely go back on our next trip to Nashville.

We walked in on an extremely busy night and got seating at the bar. The service was excellent and the vibe and ambiance was even better. Our server was very knowledgable and talked to us about different cuts of meat and different wines bourbons to compliment them. It made the experience great. The food was awesome and probably the best steak I ever had. The next time we are in Nashville, this will be our first stop. Outstanding!

I went for lunch here with a friend of mine. The $10 burger was great. Nothing too fancy, but a burger doesn't need to be. You'd be hard pressed to find a better $10 burger downtown I think. They also have these super cool mechanical fans, so don't forget to look at the ceiling at least once while you eat!

Everything ordered by our party was beautifully served and delicious. The pork chop was more like a mini roast, tender and very nicely seasoned, the baby back ribs as good as any I've had anywhere...the meat fell off the bones. Servings extremely large. For a small fee, you may share orders, which I recommend, unless you have a huge appetite.

Absolutely the best steak I've ever eaten. 5 week dry aged prime rib that was seared to perfection. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly. 10/10 will be back. Yes, it's expensive, but it's worth every penny.

My daughter wanted to celebrate her birthday 6-15-13 so we did. We brought a cake and they offered to put it in the fridge until after our meal. The waiter brought the cake out and offered to slice it for us and he did. All good until we got our bill. They charged us 5.00 per couple or 20.00 to cut the cake. I told the waiter he should have told us there would be a 20.00 charge, (more than the cake cost). The food is good but way, way, too expensive. The ambiance leaves a lot to be desired. I just have a problem eating a chicken breast on a bed of macaroni & Cheese for 19.00. I won't be going back, that is for certain.

I ate breakfast at the bar and had the eggs with crab, grits and biscuit. I also ordered 3 east coast oysters and got 4. I had a bloody Mary as well. Everything was GREAT! The bartenders were nice and friendly too. It was the best meal and experience in awhile. I can usually find something to pick at, but they did a great job. Super good grits.

Ate here on a stopover in Nashville before heading on to Dragon*Con in Atlanta, and I was impressed. Good beer selection, excellent whiskey selection (had the Jack Daniels Sinatra Select, which was something else) and the Southern Burger I had was also top flight. And The Devil of an Egg (not currently listed on the online menu) was a great appetizer - deviled eggs with an added spicy kick. Highly recommended.

I am in Nashville 4x per year for business. The Southern is a must every time. The steak is great, but my wife and I go for the Oysters. We love to sit on the backside of the bar, something about those seats make the experience fantastic. Great bartenders, great booze, unbelievable oysters!!!

We went there a few years ago during CMA fest and the food, drinks and service were awesome. They have some great sauces and things you can buy and ship to your home. One of the sauces we are partial too and recently had ran out. I reached out to The Southern directly after it was sold out on their website and not only did they respond to me immediately but they Followed up with me over the days to let me know it was back in stock and could be ordered now. I had a small issue with the order online as there was just a minor site glitch that they immediately took care of. They went above and beyond just for me to purchase some sauce from them. This is the best customer service I've received in a long time from any company period. Would shout recommendations from the rooftop for the great staff they have.

Awesome ambiance. The atmosphere and especially the employees are so welcoming. The ceiling fans are unique and cool and the whole place seemed very clean. Our servers were very nice and we didn't wait long for anything. We had the andouille soup, a salad and Safire steak biscuits for lunch. The biscuits were delicious and the steak was perfect. It was a quick stop for the perfect lunch. If we had been in town longer, we would've had dinner there too. Highly recommended by someone who knows good quality food.

What an amazing experience! I came to Nashville, solo, for my birthday. I mentioned it to my server, David, when asked what brought me to Nashville. And between him and the general manager, I was well taken care of! Not only did I get a birthday pancake, they also brought me an infamous biscuit with gravy. Both in addition to what I actually ordered. They comped two of those, and my coffee. I was also sung happy birthday. Honestly, I've never experienced such wonderful customer service and southern hospitality. Not to mention, the food was all fantastic! All around couldn't have asked for a better experience. I enjoyed my visit to The Southern quite a bit. Here’s the nitty gritty on my visit: Pros- The food is pretty good and the prices are not ridiculous. Convenient location Wide variety of menu items Cons- The oyster menu does not give descriptions of what the taste should be for each different type of oyster The atmosphere is a little basic The service we received was good, but very rushed Overall a good experience but I wouldn’t call it mind blowing. In my opinion an oyster restaurant should definitely have descriptions for each type offered. This is imperative to deciding what type to order. The type I ordered were very smooth tasting, I prefer briney. The friend that dined with me ordered a different type and hers were exactly what I want in an oyster. The devil is in the details and little things like that take an ordinary experience to an over the top one. I would ultimately recommend this place though.

Our food was great, however 3 of the things we ordered they were out of and our reservation was at 6pm. One of which was a particular beer. The complimentary valet was incredibly slow. I could have walked to the car faster. Actually at one point I thought maybe they stole my car because it was so slow.

The menu is authentic to southern cuisine and the food tastes amazing. The grits are cooked perfectly for us, more on the thicker side than runny, and the bread basket the bring is tasty. Drinks came out strong which is also a plus. We weren't huge fans of the Mac and cheese with ziti noodles, but it had good flavor. Banana foster bread pudding dessert was a highlight for sure.

We asked a guy from Big Time Boots to recommend a restaurant for lunch and he told us to go to The Southern. He was so convincing, that we trudged through a rainstorm to try what he called "the best gumbo." It was fantastic!! The oysters and crab cakes were amazing. Our server, Jason, was terrific too!! That's the best meal I've had in a long time and I travel all the time and always look for local fare. Ordered one of every oyster they offered. They were all fresh all legit from all over the country. I watched the guy shuck them. Awesome start. ordered the sirloin with green peppercorn mayo and fries and again wowed. Perfect medium rare, great green pepper corn dressing and crispy not greasy fries. I didn't think I could finish but it was so good I managed to eat all but the last of the fries. Very busy place but go. Flawless.

We have eaten at the Southern 4 times including this weekend during the CMA fest. Overall the restaurant was not as clean as before. Lots of dirty dishes and bus carts covered with white clothes. They seemed to be short service. Secondly we ordered the custom cut ribeyes. When we were selecting the cut thickness the person cutting them seemed to be annoyed and was not very helpful. (Service and attitude did not match $63 price tag for just the steak). Lastly we asked for them to be cooked Medium they were much more on the medium rare side.
