Reviews of Prince's Hot Chicken Shack South
Travis Bickle
The original Nashville hot chicken. I mean, when in Rome... I felt like it's a must. Clean location with lots of seating, nice staff and they do a ton of take out orders. Chicken was juicy and flavorful. Unlike knockoffs around the country, they have levels from extra mild through xxx hot. They told me mild was hot at other places but medium wasn't bad for me, I wasn't sweating. If you like hot, go hot. Blue cheese was not needed, the oils, spices and salty flavors were great on their own. Eat the bread on the bottom for real flavor.
Doug Austin
By far their best location. The original Nashville hot chicken place has the best flavored chicken in my opinion. What I like about their heat levels is that they are actually mild, medium, hot and beyond instead of being all ridiculously hot regardless of what is called. I love the heat but every once in a while medium is nice. Great sides and I've always had great service.

The window tints in the restaurant are super dark so it looked closed but it was open. Also it was easy to park, a ton of spaces. Ordered the 4 piece Hot Chicken Tenders with a side of Coleslaw and Mac and Cheese. The spice level was Mild and that had more kick than the Hattie B’s mild. Both the sides were alright, the star of the show was definitely the hot chicken. I also got a Chess Pie slice to go, it was solid but it was my first time having Chess Pie so nothing to compare to. I would rank Party Fowl and Hattie B’s over Prince’s tho.

Prince's may claim to be the original, and who knows, but they're not resting on their laurels. Staff was eager to help, sample, etc.
Kitchen is cooking to order, so expect a wait, but it is WELL WORTH THE WAIT.
Son ordered half a chicken, daughter the chicken strips, spouse and I had sandwiches (Andre). I swear, even without the breading and hot spices, the chicken itself is possibly one of my top 10 favorite. It's so juicy and flavorful!
Inside looked fun and all, but we chose nice weather and an over-packed parking lot out on the patio.
Strong recommendation.

I love Prince’s Hot Chicken! It’s the original hot chicken of Nashville. When you travel the country and see the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich on the menu, this is the flavor they are attempting.
Hattie B’s is good but I prefer the flavor at Prince’s. What I don’t like is the price for the sides and the amount you get. The portions for sides is horrible here. The sides do taste good though. Wanting to get multiple sides is what will drive your price up for purchase. I like the fries here to.
Over the years I have seen the wait for my food get better. The wait is usually longer in the night time and on Saturday nights. There is a location in downtown Nashville that tastes exactly the same but with a smaller menu.
The customer service here has improved as well. I have seen some of the workers there for years which speaks volumes. The ladies always have their hair done and nails on point which means they get paid well to look great!
You can catch the owner in the evenings sitting down chatting with family and guest. It’s a tradition. I hate the location in North Nashville burned down. I’m glad the new location exists though. With Prince’s chicken, it’s not about multiple locations to expand like Hattie B’s; it’s about taste and the authentic experience.
I look forward to being able to give this place 5 stars in the future. Remember, they are closed on Sundays!
The desserts where so good at the North Nashville location but doesn’t taste the same at this location. I stopped getting them. I will drive a long distance to get this chicken. I don’t live in Nashville anymore but will always cherish this spot.
Going to college in Nashville, this is a good spot I heard about constantly when I first arrived. I have had many moments here with college friends throughout the years. I will always remember them.

Prince’s never disappoints. Friendly staff - out of this WORLD food. I like spicy, but let’s be honest - too hot is just pain and less flavor. My choice is always medium at Prince’s. Which is like jalapeño heat. Nose running - tons of flavor.
Rojen Jacob
Place was busy during lunch time, food took 30 minutes to be ready. I had the extra hot chicken tenders. The chicken was hot as expected, however, it was dry and not as flavorful as it should be. The sides are tiny, and didn’t have much options. The teas were hot as you would expect southern tea to be, but had an off putting flavor like hard water. The parking lot is very small also.
Overall, the experience was not bad but, I really do not have a reason to come back.

For my first time in Nashville, I wanted to try the most authentic Nashville Hot chicken I could find. After reading many reviews, I finally decided to try the original! I'm glad to say that it did not disappoint! The staff was kind and helpful, and recommend that I try half hot and half medium on my tenders.
In hindsight, I was glad that I didn't get all hot. While I enjoyed them, the medium was the way to go!
When I arrived at 11:30 AM on a Saturday, there wasn't really any line to speak of, and I had my food in less than 5 mins.
The fries were well seasoned, crinkle cut, and had a nice flavor to them. The Mac and cheese was slightly underwhelming, but it helped cut the heat a little.
Personally, I enjoyed the bites with the pickle slices on top. Something about the sour juice of the pickles mixed with the spices of the chicken, just really made the flavor pop!
If it's your first time in Nashville, and you want to try the original hot chicken place, you can't go wrong here!

It's been too long of a time since I had Prince's, the last time being at their original location. Prince's does Nashville Hot Chicken right as the OG where their medium is other places hot. I got the hot, but I should've gone with my first instinct of x-hot or xx-hot as hot was good but I have a high spice tolerance and should have tested myself more 🤪

We are traveling in Nashville and decided to try this location since it is the original Nashville hot chicken. The chicken sandwich was great, but the size is a lot smaller than expected (a little bigger than a chicken little at KFC). The fried chicken tastes great, the medium heat is spicy enough for me. Overall it was a great dinner.
Downside: it was chilly at night and the heater wasn't on. It feels like 60 degrees in the restaurant and no way that was a comfortable temp for dining.
Tara Cook Harmon
We wanted hot chicken and this was recommend by the locals. It did not disappoint. It was fresh, hot, and delicious. It is freshly made so be prepared to wait. No problem. We know it was fresh!
We did the kids meals and 4 piece tenders with fries/beans.
I highly recommend the kids size, even as an adult it was perfect (2 tenders, choose your hot level, fries, and a drink).
We will be back.

Well, I was so hungry I forgot to take pictures of my food. Lol Been here a few times. It's delicious. Chicken is hot. We ordered medium and hot and I liked the hot better because enjoy clearing out my sinuses. 😬 Best thing is the bread under the tenders. It soaks up all the heat and buttery goodness. Fries are good too. …

It's Hot Chicken Week in Nashville, so my mom and I decided to get the $7 leg quarter special from Prince's. We left very satisfied! We didn't have to wait very long for our food. The atmosphere was also very chill. I got medium heat, if you can handle spice, medium is good. If you can't, don't go higher than mild. The chicken was very well seasoned, very tender, and falling off the bone even. The $7 leg quarter special also came with a fountain drink.
I don't expect anything less from the original hot chicken joint!

Several parts of our order were wrong. They forgot to give us the baked beans. One of the sandwiches was made incorrectly. We didn't get our drink cups.
That being said the food was delicious!! Very hot and fresh. The chicken sandwiches were delicious. The hot chicken is in fact hot (but again excellent!). The greens were outstanding. Baked beans were good (but not great). They were out of Mac n Cheese which was disappointing.
Based on the quality and deliciousness of the food alone we'd give Prince's a 5 star review but the misses on the order dropped a star for us.
Arnesha Phipps
I wanted to try the original Nashville hot chicken favor however I was informed by the staff before I ordered that their mild is spicy. So I had the lite mild chicken sandwich with the sweet heat sauce which was amazing! I definitely would go again.
Jennifer Leach
We ordered 2 chicken sandwiches & a side of macaroni to dine in. They brought our order to our table in at to go bag. We opened our sandwiches and were missing our slaw. So we had to ask for it and they only gave us 1. The macaroni & cheese was $3 for a tiny cup - not worth the money! The sandwiches were really good though.
Mohammed Ajlan
Good:
The chicken is juicy and spicy. It has got flavor rather than just the hot taste.
There is Mild, medium, hot, xhot, xxhot and xxxhot options. I tried the xx hot option and it was not extremely spicy but it was spicy.
Being an Indian xxhot was okay for myself and my friends but we have tried the max spice level once and that was fuming 🤩
Bad:
They don’t provide coleslaw along with the chicken and is priced extra. It is expensive and less quantity than the Hattie B’s hot chicken.
Joe Burgan
This is the Nashville original hot chicken if you want Nashville original hot chicken you gotta come to Prince’s Hot Chicken. We ate at the South Shack location. Need to be aware that most locations are closed on Sunday. If you have not been, you order at the counter, then pick up when called. Aside from plain, there are 7 levels of heat to the chicken. There are also a number of sides. We had coleslaw and baked beans which were tasty. Service was fast and there was no wait to order.
John Sturgis
Made the mistake of ordering the Hot XX chicken—a painful mistake. The food is out of this world good. If you want hot chicken—look no further. Prince’s is some of THE best in town—just stick to the hot. Trust me.
Alicia James
The Original is always best hands down OMG. I had the 3 whole wings medium is was just right my other 2 had Hot one thought is great one thought it was too hot and my baby was disappointed he got x hot he wished he had chosen xx-hot.🤦♀️ P.S the Potato Salad is real southern soul food potato salad taste just like my granny's from Bama …

Prince's is the True OG of hot chicken in Nashville. Every other place came after Prince's. This location offers the old school heritage of Prince's but in a cleaner and modern kitchen. Honestly its the best of both worlds. I like that it's a little farther from DT so you don't have hundreds of tourists in line wrapped around the block like you see at inferior although better branded and closer to town hot chicken concepts. Make sure to order a side of mac n cheese, beans and coleslaw if for nothing else than to counter the heat. I do see people bringing their own galloons of milk to put out the fire burning inside.
Jonathan Jones
Prince's claims to be the original hot chicken place in Nashville, but regardless it continues to be one of the best! Even though there is usually a line, the quality, fresh and delicious food that comes out of their kitchen is worth the wait! We'll be back!
Gourmand
Amazing chicken. The chicken itself is so well fried, crispy on the outside and so tender and juicy on the inside.
While I miss the old location which held a lot of nostalgia (waiting in lines for hours), small seating area, etc.), this place does really well to bring back the first type of hot chicken I ever ate.
The heat levels have become much tamer, as I remember at the other location, if you got hot, you would be crying. Here, however, hot does not really pack a punch. I only tried medium and hot, and I would at least do hot next time if not the next level up.
Go with the half chicken. It’s the right amount of meat and you won’t regret it. Anything smaller will have you wanting more.
The food comes out fairly quick, which is nice. The classic paper bag surrounding the food is still used here.
Their fries are also really good! A nice, spicy seasoning similar to what they use on their hot chicken is also on these fries. Definitely get them!

Consistently OUTSTANDING!!! I’ve tried all the so called NASHVILLE HOT imposters. But so far. O body beats Prince’s. More flavor (not just hot, it’s got real flavor that permeates the meat). Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Really quiet because everybody’s too busy sweating and eating.
Nathan
When I came to Nashville, I was looking for some really hot chicken, Prince's delivered. This stuff is so spicy that the extra hot had me running to Kroger to get milk. This chicken is hot but had great flavor. What an experience
Nora Xiao
A visitor's authentic experience with Nashville Hot chicken, I hope. Prince's got so many good reviews I'm sure this one not gonna drag down overall score.(edit to 3 stars, after comparing couples other hot chicken restaurants, I think Prince is going for the HOT, 3 stars for the HOT)
First of all, I'm very glad that the chicken are actually spicy. Many western good restaurants have a pretty weak "hot scale", The Andre sandwich is good and the sauce gives it good flavor. One star to that!
The sides are pretty tasty, Mac n Cheese are light but still flavorful, you certainly can taste the creaminess and cheese flavor. Potato salad is also pretty good. So a star to that, even tho each little cup of side about $2-3 extra. That's okay, I don't mind as long as food is good.
The chicken, since I order "Hot" level so I'm only reviewing this. I've read/heard good things about their fried chicken, they said chicken is cruncy(yes), juicy, flavorful. Honestly, beside spiciness and bitterness, it's pretty blend. And the bitterness is unpleasant, like when you burn the spice or ingredients with hot oil kind of bitterness. Other flavor profile: a mild hint of saltiness. There are no other flavor whatsoever, no sour, tangy, sweet, no umami or savory. So specifically what are the flavors that stands out or makes Nashville Hot chicken flavorful? Am I not supposed to order them hot because the peppers too overpowering? Or Nashville Hot chicken is all about that heat? (I tried the bread and no it doesn't have flavor besides butter and pepper).
Need to prepare for the wait, I wonder if local residents have to deal with the wait daily, our ticket was printed 2:19pm, food was served 3:10pm on a Monday I don't mind the wait as long as the food is good. Oh well, unfortunately this time didn't work out.
Lee Roberts
Chicken is always great. I ordered mild. Thought it was a bit more spicy this time. Wanted cake. They usually have several choices. All they had was red velvet. So I got that. The person taking my order wore a mask. I appreciate that. I ordered for three people. Took less than 10 minutes to get my order.
Carol Fewell
I can't say enough about the service and the food. We eat there every time we go to Nashville. The chicken is so good. Potato salad was good too
Danielle Gray
This chicken is no joke!! We stopped on a Saturday afternoon so of course it was insanely busy and they were running out of sides. When the chicken is that good - it's worth the wait!
manny267
Very relaxed atmosphere. I'm visiting from Portland, OR and was excited to try out hot chicken for the first time. Several different degrees of hotness/spicy... I picked mild(there are two below "mild". I almost couldn't eat it but, I couldn't stop because it was so delicious. I can't imagine anyone tolerating and actually enjoying XXXhot haha.
I highly recommend.

Went with the original hot chicken joint for my first taste of Nashville Hot Chicken. It was very good. A bit expensive ($33 for a whole chicken, $17 for a half) and the sides were laughably small (but delicious), but I enjoyed everything and definitely had enough to eat with a little bit left over.
Got the half chicken and ordered it "hot". I like spice, and I figured if there were three (four?) hotter levels I could handle "hot". I was right. The heat was there (I definitely wiped my eyes a few times) but it wasn't too much. And it was very flavorful, adding to the chicken, not obscuring it.
My sister got a half chicken "slightly spicy" (one level above no spice at all) for her husband and he really liked it.
I split the "hot" half chicken with my sister and we also got a chicken sandwich (medium spice) which was good but not amazing (could have used a couple pickles, or maybe a bit of sauce to juice it up a bit, IMHO).
Service was very good, though they told us our order would take 5-10 minutes but it ended up being 20.
All in all, it was good but I was not blown away, especially in terms of price/value (the TINY sides were a real let down).
Steven Chiu
Yummy fried chicken! If I were to redo my order I'd skip the tenders and stay with bone in leg quarters or wings. Tenders were super dry... Leg quarters dripping in juice. Spice levels were decent if you're accustomed to spicy food.
Kevin S
Chicken is decent. A bit overcooked but still great. Mac and cheese is super tiny and the sides of ranch are in a packet like it’s some middle school cafeteria…
Victor Bilgen
Tasty, tender chicken. The medium and hot were perfect. My wife got the mild and was happy too. The chicken does well to taste like great fried chicken - the heat is the supporting role. The xxx hot was really hot, it doesn't hit you at first but then it builds up really quick. The distance between the x hot and the xxx hot is pretty big too. Mac n cheese is really tasty. Cole slaw is good too, esp if you like mayo forward cole slaw.
J Gross
My new favorite hot chicken!!! I love this place and the warm greeting by Shamekia made the food even more outstanding! Thank you for a great lunch...I see why it's voted best chicken in TN...I'll be back often!
Mama & Shortcast
Listen carefully!! Prince's Hot Chicken don't play. Did you hear me? I tried the XX Hot. Spanked my inner spice hound and sent it scampering under the table like a wimpering puppy. I seek out spicy food regularly but before i could get halfway thru my chicken, I was checking my burial policy. Great place and great staff. Just be careful about the heat level you choose!
Troy Moore
The wait is worth the food. Best hot chicken in Nashville. The sides however are small for the price. Great atmosphere.
Wor Ferg
I ordered the mild breast quarter. The price ..well, not so competitive. I wanted to just add a wing 😕 but the only option was to add 4... not good for business. The taste of the food was ok... serving size.. stingy. The atmosphere was good.. more like a sports bar. …
Alberta Hardison
I got the chicken sandwich that came with a small side of coleslaw and mango tea. The food was good. I hadn't been to a Prince's establishment in a while because the last time my experience with the staff wasn't the best. I will have to say that the cashier was extremely nice. Also the menu selections (everything is sold separately) and prices had changed since the last time I was there.
L C
Okay. I'm sitting outside in my truck. Nose running. Lips on fire. Heart and stomach are full. I ordered a sweet heat Arnold sandwich, medium heat, a pint of collard greens, and a sweet tea.
The chicken is meaty and thick. The bread was soft and touch of sweetness that complemented the sweet heat of the sauce. Ordering to go they put my slaw on the side which I would have thoroughly appreciated had I actually waited to get out of the parking lot to eat!
The collards are cooked to perfection and have so much flavor. It contains turkey, which is a great option for people that don't eat pork.
The tea was a bit sweet for me, but I'm not big on sweets. Once my ice melted a bit I appreciated the sweet from the tea covering my singed tongue. I'll be back. That's a fact.
Bryan Doyon
A great place for hot chicken and lunch. With a streamlined menu everything is packed with flavor and quality ingredients. Service was friendly and the food was fresh made on order. The hit chicken definitely had spice but wasn't unbearable if you like heat. They have plenty of seating indoors and also some outdoor seating. Stop by for lunch if you're in the area.

Some of the best fried chicken I've ever had. Juicy and the batter was delicious.
We had medium hot and XXX with the breast and Wing combo. I'm a pepper head and I found the XXX to be tolerable. You could still taste the flavor of the meat and the batter and the sauce. I would really like to see a 6 or 7X. The service was very nice and nice people. But we did have an hour away it was a Friday afternoon and was very busy.
Terri Ramsey
So torn about enjoying this Nashville legend. Do I brave the extended lines and long wait times to enjoy this delicious chicken! We arrived on a Saturday around 1:15. We waited about 5 minutes to place our order and 50 minutes to get food for 2. The chicken itself arrived piping hot and full of flavor so 5 stars there! But it is chicken and there are plenty of people coming into buy it. Can it not be cooking continuously to fill the inevitable orders that will be coming in? Make the choice for yourself! The chicken won’t disappoint you.
Christina Lane
First time visiting and was very pleased with the quality of the food. The chicken was very moist and the sauce is very favorable. They have many spice flavors to choose from so choose wisely. The only complaint I will give are their sides. Their sides are very small for the price they are asking. They sell their sides separately from the chicken. They are busy so your waiting time is about 45 minutes to an hour. But other than that, I will visit again if you want hot chicken.
Terrance Troope
This place is phenomenal. I see why ppl come from miles around to try it. Best chicken I've ever had.
Nick Ward
Birthplace of Nashville Hot Chicken in 1945. If you have never had it before (like the northerner I am).... It is basically delicious...crispy... perfectly cooked fried chicken... Smothered in Cayenne pepper powder/sauce... Served on white bread... With pickle chips on the side... Sounds simple but amazingly complex flavors.
I went with the spiciest sauce they had (xxx hot). It brought a tear to one eye.... tasty... but hotter than I expected. Don't be me. Use some caution... Go back for next day regrets after you had your fill... Shoot for something less spicy than you think you can handle
It is worth the stop.
Erin Piacitelli
Order hot chicken tenders. Was the hottest food I've ever eaten. The chicken is amazingly crispy, but I wish I had ordered the mild heat level. We also ate some of their lemon cake and pecan pie while we waited for our food.
B C
Recommended by the locals. Fresh HOT chicken. The regular “hot” (which I was told was not spicy) was a LOT spicier and VERY SALTY than what I’m used to, but it was delicious with a side of ranch. Should have went with a child size. Adult platter is big enough where two people can split a meal, without burning your esophagus too bad 🥵. Different selections of *heat would be appreciated, not just straight up hot sauce/rub so you can enjoy the chicken
Mr. Zed
Moist well cooked chicken. Good both nothing exceptional. If you eat hear remember mild would be considered hot in the rest of the country. The only downside was they forgot about our order. The staff person I asked about it told me "nope just wait." Thankfully one of the cashier's stepped in and fixed it. I would give her 5 stars all day long.
Tilden Clark
Very good food. Just keep in mind... their mild is really hot!
Brittany Snow
Delicious and flavorful. Their mild flavor is amazing. SUPER SALTY though! It’s not a place to eat at often, definitely special occasions. Wings, tenders and fires were all cooked well. Greens were a little dry. Customer service was excellent! Young lady at the counter was patient and kind. Arrived before the lunch rush and dined-in. However, they have an effective system in place so if you call ahead or order inside you don’t have to wait long.
Erika Howell
I was so happy to finally check this spot out! I called in a To-Go order, and they let me know right away which items were sold out, plus helped pick something else. The spice levels are for real, and I often order one or two steps down from the hottest options at Thai and Wing spots.
Gaurav Hegde
Flavorful but a little too oily . We got the hot tenders and the xtra hot breast . The spice level was apt for our taste buds.
We wish they had the grilled chicken option and they were out of their turkey greens.
But the 25 min wait for pick up was a little annoying .
We could smell weed all over the dining area while waiting .
I dont think I will be dining at this place but a pick up is quite possible. They also had some decent Christmas decor going on which was nice to look at .

Hey y'all Prince's Hot Chicken was grrrrrrreat experience. This is my 1st time here visiting from Memphis. A coworker recommended coming and that's what I did. Staff was excellent and food was PHENOMENAL 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Mos Def will be back next time I visit Nashville!!✌🏾 …
Matthew Milner
We went with the medium and it was good and hot. But perhaps a little too salty. The chicken was cooked well and very juicy. Good flavor too, and not overpowered by the heat in the medium. They sides we had were just okay and nothing to write about. They were out of the mac and greens. There was a pretty good wait time, but they were putting out a lot of online and to-go orders.
James Borum
Prince's has some of the best tasting hot chicken in Nashville which makes sense since they are the originators of hot chicken. The one thing that I will mention is that I usually only order french fries as a side because their other sides are given in a small container and taste just okay.
Natalie Neal
Excellent hot chicken! Did a hot chicken comparison with Hattie B's, and this chicken is absolutely worth the 20 min drive from Nashville. The mild has a gentle heat to it, but probably could've gone up to medium just to sweat a little more. Kids liked the plain chicken tenders (it was hard not to steal from them, they were so good!) Mac and cheese and BBQ beans were ok, Hattie B's has them beat there. Definitely recommend the potato salad from Prince's too. Store was clean and kept social distancing protocol. Can't wait to go back!
Tonya Guinn
Portions were tiny for the prices they charged. They forgot our fries, and they were so salty we couldnt eat them. The chicken tasted good but was extremely greasy. I had to drink vaking soda and water when i got home. I will not be back. $30 for two pieces of chicken, super salty fries and a small scoop of beans and potato salad 😬😳
Isabella
Y’all this chicken ain’t no joke. I’ve been loving it for the last few years but just had a chance to come up here and eat it again. Staff was awesome, food came out quickly and there was no line during the day when we came for lunch. We had the tenders mild and a piece of chess pie. Delicious and plenty of leftovers to take home.
Chip Bendle
Some expensive spices. The tenders were average quality and were Dry.
Prince might have been great one day but can't recommend this to my out of town friends who want some original Nashville hot chicken... I'd put them up against a plate of KFC with their spices and KFC wins easily .
Jesse Barger
Love this place but be warned, flavor stops at mild and chemical burns start with medium. For good spice that leaves you some feeling in your lips I recommend the mild light.
Renee Dominguez
Great chicken but the levels of spiciness are deceiving. I ordered mild and couldn't eat it. At first I got my daughter's order of medium by mistake and it burned my mouth. Sides are very small for the price
Paul Brown
The chicken was AWESOME. Collards, potato salad were also really good. Red velvet cake was EXCELLENT.
My only issue is the sides are soooo expensive. I think $4 per side and it’s like maybe 4 bites worth?
But if you’re just going for chicken, $9 was a steal. Far better than Hattie Bs and Loveless cafe
But for the whole meal (chicken, 2 sides, dessert and drink), it ended up being about $27 for one person.
s Vinrn
Sandwich was so good. And the tenders too. Be warned!! I like spicy and the medium was intense lol. I'll go a little lighter next time.
Douglas Macis
Most amazing chicken I ever had. The chess pie was great and everything made to order. The mac and cheese was a little disappointing small portion and a little dry. But totally recommend Prince’s the original.
Justin Nguyen (JNguyen20)
Visiting from Atlanta, I wanted to try Prince’s Hot Chicken as I’ve heard the comparisons to Hattie B’s. The skin and flavor was way better than Hattie B’s. The meat itself, was quite underwhelming and had no flavor whatsoever.
PS: I ordered Mild and their mild is HOT. I’d say the mild is the equivalent of a Hattie B’s medium.
Steve Stewart
45 mins to get an order is really slow, parking is hard to come by to the store but the food is amazing and nice and hot (especially the XXX heat, makes Hattie B's taste tame in comparison)
cody johnson
One of the best hot chicken places I’ve visited and I’ve been to A LOT. Amazing range of spices that’ll clear your sinuses and get ya sweating no matter what your limits are. Personally I’ve found medium heat is the key to a good time for me. I recommend getting a strip at different heat levels your first time like I did to find your limits. Excellently seasoned fries, reasonable prices, quick service, amazing chicken, and a piece of chicken history earned this spot all 5 stars today.
Alex Moran
I live down the street and have been tons of times, overall I would give it a 4/5 stars. Food is always good, chicken is hot, wait times are ridiculously long sometimes

We went to here and Hattie B’s on our trip. I preferred the spice levels here. The spice dip was tastier to me. The presentation and package is more refined at Hattie B’a but something has to be said about being the first, as is the case with Prince’s.
Beware that the heat levels here are hot. I’m usually an extra hot type of guy but I ordered Hot here as I was forewarned and that was plenty of heat.
I wasn’t a massive fan of the sides here but the chicken is really the show. Absolutely delicious. We got tenders and a fried breast. Both were great.

First time trying some hot chicken, and it was pretty good. I had the 3 piece wing, and the wings were huge! I could barely finish them. I had the medium heat flavoring, and it had a little kick to it. One thing i will say is that their baked beans are to die for. I had to order another batch before leaving, and they were only 2.50. The bowl seems small, but it’s quite filling! The chicken was a little too greasy for my liking, but the flavor was good. Order ahead of time if you’re hungry, because there can be a little wait time.

Simply Delicious. 😋
I started with 1/4 chicken, white meat, medium heat, as per the recommendation (for those who enjoy hot things).
It's good. It's a really good flavor, excellent spice to heat ratio, but at this level it's nothing unbearable. I could eat this level of heat every day.
Something surprising though about this sauce is the intermittent sensation of scorch or burning. I'm not sure what it is that causes it but it comes on like waves while you eat - unlike any hot or spicy sauce I've ever tried.
Some people couldn't handle this level, but if you like hot things you may want to skip the lower levels and start at the first level of hot.
Had the mac n' cheese & baked beans as sides, also delicious.
I would also recommend the prince beer on tap.
Bottom line is it's really good and I will be back, soon.

I think it should be quite obvious by now that this trip to Nashville was a hot chicken and barbecue pilgrimage. We ended this food journey on a high with the original Nashville hot chicken at @princeshotchicken_nashville.
Prince's was not originally on my list, given how far it was from any of the more touristy sights, but we were lucky that someone's local friend had a car.
Instead of the dry rub versions we had at Hattie B's and Bolton's, the heat of Prince's chicken seemed to be from the chili oil that was drizzled over the chicken. The "hot" was adequately hot, and not stinging like the dry rub at Bolton's. The wings were meaty and juicy. My one minor complaint was that the thighs were somewhat dry in comparison, but this is an inconsequential opinion.
I can definitely see why the internet agrees that the original Nashville hot chicken is still the best hot chicken in Nashville.
Toni Thomas
The food was awesome! Hands down one of the best chicken places in Nashville and I got Mild which is more of a medium spicy so if you want something not as hot you may want to go with Plain. The pricing is great too! An all time favorite. They can be busy but no worries cause you normally get your food in a very timely manner!
Alan Moretton
TL;DR - The price, flavor, and experience was fantastic.
The juicy deets: I enjoy hot and spicy things so I got the X-hot. That was my first mistake: the flavor levels are for local taste buds. It was so hot I had sweat running down my forehead, tears running out of my eyes, and snot running out of my nose. My cheeks were literally tingling from the heat. It was not awesome but makes for a great story! Such a fun experience, we were laughing when we weren't crying.
We went to McDonald's afterwards and it was the best chocolate milkshake I've ever had.
Take your friends... Better yet take your enemies and order them a plate of the XX-hot and watch as their body cleanses them of the past 10 years of toxins.

Finally got to try some Nashville Hot Chicken! Think I started at the right place @princeshotchicken_nashville Absolutely delicious, perfectly crisp, salt/spice rub was on point, and the heat level - Hot - was just right for this first timer. Can’t wait for the next visit! #nashville #hotchicken #eaternashville #spicy

This chicken is seriously HOT! My husband and I usually like things spicy. He almost got XXX-Hot but after reading some reviews, he dialed his order back to X-Hot which was still very spicy, but he ate it like a champ with no sweating or anything. I like spicy but not too hot, so I ordered medium chicken tenders. In hindsight I would have ordered mild because their spice levels are higher than normal but either way it’s great tasting chicken.
The sides were real small but okay. The mac & cheese has pepper in it which I usually like but when you pair it with the hot chicken and spiced fries, it’s a bit too much. Husband loved the potato salad. Crinkle fries with spice are pretty good. And the pickles go great with the chicken.
As to wait time, they told us 30-45 minutes and we got our food about 45 mins in. Not too bad for holiday time (Dec 30) but we thought it would be a little more died down at 2pm for lunch. We’re just visiting Nashville but I’d definitely go back and order the mild if ever in town again 😋
Jim Bentley
Well... usually when places are talked up like this it's almost a let down. I've had hot chicken elsewhere in the South and thought it was pretty good. today was the first time that I ever tried Princes.... and let me just say they have it mastered. we managed to beat the lines... the service was very helpful and quick... the sides were absolutely great. highly recommended! Princes definitely lives up to the hype
Courtney Chantel Williams
Hunty, when I tell you this chicken wasn’t a joke, I mean just that! What you see here is a half chicken and the flavor is hot!! Now, you know when you go to Nashville, it is a MUST that you taste their hot chicken! I ordered this, opened it up, and a local said to me ‘now why they do you like that?’ Lol! That’s when I knew I f’ed up. Smh! The chicken was HOT, but so good! I would go back, and I want you to too, so before you go, have a glass of milk on the side.

Friendly customer service. Also, if you see a line, WAIT IN IT. It is very worth it. Large portions for good prices. Don’t go to chick fil a , GO HERE
Anand Chandrasekaran
Best fried chicken I have had. Better than hattiti in every way. Xhot and hot are quite good and you should definitely try it
Steven Colon
Best Hot Chicken in Tennessee!!! I recommend getting Hot. Mild is pretty good if you don’t eat too much spicy food, but if you like spicy eatable food go hot, but if wanna challenge yourself get the XX HOT. Trust you're gonna wanna come back to this place!!!
Andrew Dunsworth
Very friendly staff and smells amazing. Chicken was crispy and juicy. Fries were perfectly cooked but had alot of seasoning especially salt. Only it took 30 minutes to get 2 PC of chicken as they kept doing the to go orders first.
Nate Southern
I really enjoy spicy food and fried chicken and Prince's didn't disappoint. Started to order their hottest chicken until the lady at the counter said "are you sure?" I've done hot ones style hot wings challenges in the past and Blair's Megadeath sauce is hot but tolerable. Then I decided why ruin my whole day? So I went from their hottest to the next step down. It still had plenty of heat to satisfy my love of heat but wasn't too much. Chicken was crispy, moist, and still hot temperature wise even after a 20 minute drive. We took the advice of a gentleman in the parking lot and didn't put our order in the seat because it could definitely put a hurting on your upholstery. Staff was very nice, courteous, and gave excellent advice. I wouldn't recommend swinging by for lunch because it took a while but if you have the time it's worth the wait!!!
Sherrl Carpenter
Parking is hard to find. But the hot chicken is so worth it. Only 1 handicap parking and on a hill so hard for my wheelchair. Friendly staff and yummy chicken. Clean bathrooms. Pics included

Being a Nashville native, hot chicken is the holy grail of eats. Not to mention, I am a self-proclaimed hot chicken connoisseur. Therefore, it is only right to start with the OG of hot chicken, Prince's! I am a heat seeker when it comes to food so I usually go with XX hot breast plate, 1 level below the deadly and remorseful XXX hot. Disclaimer: anything above hot is for not the faint of heart. The breast and wing combo comes perfectly fried and equally as spicy. The tenders are recommended for days you don't wanna use your hands.
Alex Parins
Been all over Nashville and have tried numerous items named as hot chicken. Everyone of them has had a good flavor and see heat. Stopped here for the first time while on our trip and figured I'd go all or nothing, so I tried their XX Hot chicken breast and leg with a side order of fries. When it came out before even tasting it I could smell the heat just coming from the chicken. Not hot enough to make the forehead sweat, but very hot and true to it's name! When busy you can expect about a 45 minute wait after ordering but well worth the experience.
Larry Lake
This is an absolute must try if visiting Nashville!! It is hot so beware. I’ve had all the different heats but plain and I think xhot is the best, xxhot is just oily. Chicken is tender and tasty even without the heat. Usually a decent wait even after you’ve ordered so don’t go if you don’t have a good hour. Staff can be friendly but they get busy and work hard so give them some slack.
travis leonard
The spice levels are a tad spicier than expected (which is a good thing unless a wimp like me!) The potato salad is mostly mustard but still pleasant. The XXXL spice is the hottest chicken I have ever had!
Sameer Rao
This place truly makes some wonderful ❤️ Nashville Hot Chicken, I got the dark and white meal selection, one level below the hottest, had to order Coke to stay cook. Amazing taste to keep your taste buds clicking.
Jamal Noshahi
If you are reading this review, you know what you're looking for. Everything on the menu washes down really well the Prince's draft ale. Make sure to get coleslaw as a side to cool off that fire.
Jason Derson
I am not a big fan of spicy but my wife is, and since we were in Nashville we had to try the legendary hot chicken. I ordered the mild, not knowing what to expect. The chicken was cooked perfectly, the sauce wasn't overpowering but still had a good bite to it. I will say the customer service leaves a lot to be desired but the food was on point.
Gus Lund
Amazing fried chicken. I like the XXX Hot Chicken and ask for an extra Ranch dressing. I enjoy the greens and potato salad also.
Hemanth Ramineni
Original Nashville hot fried chicken. Friendly staff and the chicken was good. I have high spice tolerance compared to average Americans and I ordered the Hot one, which has herbanero. Wasn't unbearable, but I couldn't have handled of it were any hotter.
nathaniel tucker
Liked Hattie bs better. Way too salty. Really flavorful and great dark meat. Just do dark meat next time.
Holland Mills
I was driving through Nashville and knew I had to stop by what is considered the origin of Nashville Hot Chicken. The line went quickly, and ordering was straightforward; staff was extremely friendly.
The wait was about 20 minutes; I ordered the chicken breast (hot), Mac & Cheese, and Collared Greens which are made with turkey. The sides were well portioned and the Collared Greens were very flavorful.
The chicken outside had a very crispy crust and the spices were phenomenal. There was a lot more than I could eat, the order came with two chicken breasts! Unfortunately the chicken was on the drier side, likely owing to it being chicken breast.
Floyd Pepper
So good. So so good. The hot sneaks up on you. At first I thought that next time I would get 1 hotter. As I ate I decided that would be a bad idea. The chicken is so fresh and hot and crispy. Get the fries.
Jared Hensel
We went on vacation to Tennessee and of course I had to try the original Nashville hot chicken and wasn't disappointed. I got XXX hot tenders they we're great. Not only scorching hot, but also had amazing flavor. They were packed and it took awhile to get my order, but it was worth the wait.
fletcher cross
Got the leg ( drumsticks are my favorite) with the greens and beans. Fantastic service with excellent food. I Was bummed they were out of Mac and cheese.
Rufika Mariana
On our way from East to west and try to find great Nashville hot chicken.
I should really try the extra hot despite the lady at cashier said I will might can't even handle the hot (will made me sweat). Tried the hot one, nope, not sweating at all.
If you are great with the ghost pepper wings before, you definitely have to get something hotter than "hot" level.
Else than that, it's really really good!! I enjoyed it. The place is clean. Restroom also clean.
SM Tan
I had to come visit the offshoot of the place that started Nashville hot chicken. It's kinda dimly lit when you walk in. Order at the counter and I got a quarter thigh and drumstick, and it came on white bread with pickles. It was good and it was appropriately hot! I'd recommend Prince's hot chicken. I think there's another location in SoBro that's more convenient, so I'll try that next.
Kamran Ayub
Visiting from Minneapolis. The chicken was excellent. We've made Nashville Hot Chicken at home and we are huge fans. Ours is good and this didn't disappoint. I eat spicy food regularly being of South Asian descent. Hot means hot 🔥 Mild is good for Minnesotan palettes, like if cajun scares you, get Mild. If you love spicy food, get Medium or higher. If you can handle ghost pepper, I think Hot and any Xtra will be manageable for you. Mac and cheese is tiny, it's good, get more than one. Fries are serviceable, don't come for them, come for the chicken. Highly recommend!
Hunter Adams
Food is great and tastes very good. The environment of the restaurant is awesome and very nostalgic for those who have been raised in Nashville. The only thing I cannot justify is the price for chicken and some fries. A bit pricey for
simple fried chicken and fries.
Philip Haas
The original hot chicken taste. Got medium hot and it’s quite hot. Especially the bread underneath. Must try while in Nashville.
Greg Bielak
Seasoned to perfection but chicken was overcooked and tough. Would go back though. Only had two gripes. The Mac and cheese cup is the size of a ketchup cup which is ABSURD. also there are no garbage cans in the place
Nicola Carpenter
Wasn't to fond of the hot chicken....and they sold out of mac and cheese at 730 so disappointed......but the baked beans cole slaw and the greens was Sooooo delish!!!
Carolyn T
Need more parking. For 3 wing ans 1 slice of bread was $9.00 before COVID it was $7.00...WOW. the Chess pie was good but the slice was small. I grew up with Primce chicken now I reside in NM so when I return home I order and freeze the chicken to take back to NM. If 400° Chicken was opened that is what I would have preferred. Oh well.
Shaw Garr
A very diverse place to eat. I always get mines to go though. I use to buy food from the original Prince's location in East Nashville. I'm glad they opened up a location in this area, because their spices are so great. I highly recommend! If you can't handle the original Nashville Hot 🔥😈 chicken, then there's other things on the menu to try out?
Taiye Adekoya
Pretty good, and the XXX were kinda spicy! But that Mac and cheese portion was super tiny, though it tasted good.
Brian Mintich
Excellent food. I got spicy chicken, and man is it hot. Just FYI you may want to let it cool down. This place makes your chicken fresh to order. Super crunchy and flavorful. Definitely worth the stop.
Seth Lowe
I'm a fan of spicy food and I had the chance to go to the "original" Nashville hot chicken restaurant, I couldn't pass it up. I ordered the extra extra hot and the extra hot. The woman who took my order asked me if "I was sure" which gave me a little apprehension. I went with my gut and went ahead, I was not disappointed. It was hot and chrispy, spicy but with great flavor. I would eat here again. The service was polite and knowledgeable about their menu. If you come here for lunch like I did be prepared to wait in line and then wait again for your food. This is not the place to come if you just have a few minutes. If you enjoy beer they have several on tap. Including some local and one that's even just for Prince's. Glad I made the effort to eat here!
D.J. Eshelman
Original. Awesome. It may be out of the way for some (like me) but I'm glad I made the trip and I'll be back.
I had medium and it was slightly hot but very tasty. I like spicy with real flavor and character. There is a sweetness in the breading that makes it work.
Try it!
Becca Leary
Hot hot hot hot! I only got the lowest level of heat and it was hot! The chicken is fantastic and flavorful. The portions are huge! Come hungry. They do eat in and take out. If you come around meal times it will be busy so be prepared to wait. But it’s all worth it!
crystal waters
The one and only. Went twice in a week. Yummmmmmm
Jason Adkins
Great chicken. Great fries. Tolerable service. Nigh intolerable wait times. Dear Lord, 45 minutes for fried chicken, and that's when there's almost no one in the store.
You need to check this off your list and then stick with Hattie B's
Marquis Moore
The amount of chicken you get with each order was good, zero complaints there. The heat levels were also nothing to sneeze at. The sides weren't bad but nothing special either, I also think the portions are a joke considering what you're being charged for each one. I think it might be 3-4 tablespoons each if I was being generous. Their service was also VERY slow. We were there around 4pm on a weekday and it took 30-35 minutes for two small orders. Overall the experience was ok, but factoring the price into it we'll probably pass on a return visit.
Rebecca Martyn
I expected a better meal, considering all the reviews. I wasn't that impressed with the food. It was good, but not good enough to WOW me. The place was not exactly a nice place, it was a little on the dark side, in a shopping center Parking lot and there were a lot of sketchy people hanging around inside and outside.
Nick S.
I finally found the "hot" in Nashville Hot Chicken. I ordered the extra-hot and it delivered! The first few bites had me seeing stars. Baked beans were great, so was the mac & cheese. I'm a bit sad I live half a continent from Prince's, but I will be back the next time in Nashville.
Curt Clark
Chicken was delicious. I had the "Hot" level of chicken. And it was. Great flavor and the chicken was cooked perfect. No complaints here. Seasoned fries went great with the chicken also. Hot chicken was a new thing for us that a friend recommended while we were in town. It didnt dissapoint. Will go again next time we are in town.
Dannis Tidwell
The best and the ORIGINAL Nashville hot chicken. Can’t get better. The service, the flavor, the people. Don’t waste your time anywhere else!
Akeya McQueen
Food was ok. Portion size of the sides items could have been better. The staff was awesome.
Robert Yocum
Prince's hot chicken is absolutely delicious fried chicken and of course you have your choice on the spice level including a plain version but all the way up to triple X Hot! Must try if you are visiting.
Kennette Jones
I got the 3 piece wings hot. Let me say it was just the right amount of hot. The perimeter of my mouth was slightly tingling. The fries were the addition. To my plate. My hubby got the 3 piece wings mild. He doesn't do hot.
Definitely check it out, you will not regret it. There are plenty of TV's to watch sports. The restaurant bis neat and clean.
Johnny Jay
Pleasantly surprised, was expecting dipped or splashed pieces not the uniformed consistency throughout each bite. I struggled with medium but couldn't stop eating it, I wouldn't think of a hotter flavor, I tapped out wit pride. It was great experience as I ate in and watched locals do xxhot, ya gotta be kidding me...forget "when in Rome" phrase...lol.
Bernisa Elliott
We visited Nashville and Prince’s was highly recommended. We tried it downtown one day at the food truck. Best waffles EVER almost like a funnel cake flavor no syrup needed. Chicken was good. Kids wanted to grab more before our departure so we drove to the south location. They did not have waffles on menu. 😱😱😱Major disappointment!!!! Pls offer the same menu to you customers. The chicken from the restaurant was better than that at the food truck though. But we had our mouths set for waffles as well. The slightly mild is HOT but I’m a wimp!
Joe Andrasko
Don't get me wrong - the first hot chicken I had was Hattie B's, and it was amazing. That said, Prince's is beyond amazing and deserves the title of true champion. The spice levels are sure to satisfy even those who burned their taste buds off long ago.
Gayle
I wanted to like the hot chicken because I love hot food. But the chicken was hot but not flavorful. The skin was soggy. The sides were good.
Crystal Liu
Beer will make it even more spicy! Flavour of the chicken was great, it was hot but not so much that you can't taste anything else. I got there just past 12 and there wasn't a line but by the time I left they stopped taking orders cos there were too many people.
mona yebra
My favorite chicken I get the hottest 🌶🌶🌶🌶..I just love it..We have driven to Nashville twice and we HAVE to get some Hot Chicken!! Yum😋😋😋😋🥰 You must try it!! …
Diane Carlisle
Fantastic wings. Crispy skin, moist meat. Intensity ranges from plain to extreme. I went plain. Others had medium and hot.
JD Yeh
Great food, super hot once you add an X to the spicy level. I'd stick with 'hot' and ask for 'x hot or xx hot' only if you're willing to suffer the consequences of your choices. Hot is still having a good time, and anything higher is asking for trouble. Parking is often packed, so maybe you'll luck out around dinner time. Enjoy the food!
Kyle Van Der Aa
I think Prince's has the best hot chicken in Nashville. I got the hot 1/2 chicken and it was so amazing. I like hot food and this was HOT. So hot but so good. I've been having dreams of it ever since. I got the cole slaw to help with the heat and it was the perfect complement to the chicken.
Kathleen Charli Hibbert
Oh Snap! If I had known about Prince's Hot Nashville Chicken ...I would have visited Nashville years ago!
I ordered the chicken tenders and OH MAMA were they good! I would cut a piece of the tender and put it on my fork with a piece of the bread and a half of a pickle slice~ I can't believe the MAGIC! What a combination. A completely awesome-bold-spicy flavor like nothing I have ever tasted. I can't wait to have Nashville chicken again. Thank you Tennessee and Prince's for teaching me a lesson in another use for pickles! A MUST try if you haven't had them!
By the way -- I grew up in the southwest - and I rarely eat a meal without a salsa, sriracha, or pepper sauce involved...basically I like heat. But I have to be honest -- I ordered the mild at my friends' insistence - and I am thankful I did! Boy, howdy did they have some heat on them!
Jacob Barnes
So I’ve tried many of the other hot chicken places in Nashville and the surrounding areas. So far on my quest I have found that prince’s hot chicken has been my favorite. Some of the other competitors do a really good job with making some HOT chicken but what I have found at princes is that the chicken is also very hot but it also has flavor to it unlike the other places I have eaten at. All in all princes does a good job at balancing the heat of the chicken without compromising the flavor of it.
Would recommend if you like HOT food if you don’t like hot food I wouldn’t recommend it!
Jill Nelson
We got the 4 piece tenders with fries, a side of Mac & cheese, and a side of cole slaw. It was about $24 for all of it. My boyfriend got one tender with XXHot and the other 3 with Hot seasoning. He has a high heat tolerance and the XXHot was just about perfect for him! I have a low heat tolerance and got mild seasoning and that was perfect for me! Highly recommend this place!
T Lawson
The potato salad is amazing! I got the hot chicken because I love spicy things but it was way too hot for me and I didn’t enjoy my experience. My husband got the mild and he thought it was hot. I am glad I got to experience this place but it’s not something that I would care to go back to.
Tony S
My last review was about ordering to go on the phone before I got there.
Today, I decided to dine in. Man, this place is popping. I knew there will be lots of people dinning in and I wanted to join the crowd. Ha! 😁
Beware, there is a shortage of parking spot. I ordered 4 chicken tenders medium heat, side of seasoned fries, and a pop fountain drink. It cost me $12.45 and I get a number to place on the table. Then you wait and wait and wait. While I was waiting, I helped myself to a self serving pop machine. They also have sweet and unsweet tea. Finally, my food was served to me. (Hint) You must eat hot spicy food slow but I was starving Marvin. The fries and chicken tenders were excellent.
After you're done with eating spicy chicken, always remember to wash your hand. I would hate to get that pepper in my eyes. 😭
Mark Parker
The food is delicious, no question. The service is lousy, no excuse. There is no reason that a half chicken should take 45 minutes to get to a table during non-peak hours. Get more fryers or do whatever you need, but to pay $13 for a half chicken that is unacceptable
Brian Stotelmeyer
Service was fantastic. The tenders were large, juicy and cooked to perfection. Medium was easy to eat and hot left a little burn on the lips. Not sure it would be enjoyable to try either of the hotter levels.
Jeff L
I ordered a quarter breast with baked beans. I came early and it took about 20 minutes for my order to come out. I ordered medium and it was definitely more spicy than what I consider medium. The bread helped.
adriel halliburton
Ordered the hot and it had my whole face sweating. Still good tho. The extra pickles were necessary. 🔥 🥵 🐔 🔥 …
TheMaloney
The chicken lives up to its reputation. I got the original hot and it was a nice balance of heat without being too hot. I think the extra hot is probably what I’ll order next time as it’s probably a bit more inline with my taste. The chicken was moist and the wings were massive, not like the tiny side I ordered. It looks like a container they might give you ketchup in.
Sanely, the only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because it’s a bit of a dump, pretty dirty inside, and even if you eat in they service everything in disposable take away plastic and paper packaging which is a huge waste.
Mike Smathers
There is a reason the original is often imitated, but never duplicated.
I am absolutely addicted to hot chicken and Prince's is the undisputed King (ba-dum tiss). The perfect balance of heat and flavor, it is always juicy and fresh. I prefer the tenders (shown) because it's easier to eat and the fries because they are a great foil but there is nothing on their menu that will disappoint you.
I have to admit that I've never saved room for dessert but they are well recommended. And if you see Mrs. Prince, pay the proper respect!!
Lauren Solina
The ORIGINAL hot chicken of Nashville.
Y'all, the greens. We just need to take a moment of silence, praise to the highest, because these greens really are THAT GOOD. Like, can I eat a whole meal of just these greens good, maybe.
Play with your mama, not that spice level. If you don't regularly eat spice, you can't handle that xx hot. Don't even side-eye the hottest. As a native who eats hot chicken often, I get medium most often. If you are a visitor, start there or mild.
The service and rest of offerings run smooth like butter. Y'all the best!
Rachel Hodge
By far the favorite Chicken spot in town, I just wish they had the option of “light mild” with online ordering — for some reason it’s in store only and they don’t answer their phones often so I have to drive across town and order on site/wait for the order
Chris L
Good chicken (the XX is not too hot) & friendly staff. Big thumbs up!!!
M. G.
Can’t beat the original! Came at 1pm on a weekday, was told the wait would be 30-45 minutes for our order, but the food came out in about 10. Hot was not very hot, and extra hot was just right.
John Martin
The chicken was really good. Very very hot is seriously hot. I usually go for the hottest chicken on the menu and this was miles above what I've experienced. The mild was great but still with a good kick.
Alvin Merz
I enjoyed the chicken at Prince's. If you have never been there before the chicken is spicy. The hot comes from spices not a saucey sauce. In my opinion, medium = "hot". I like hot food and this stuff had heat at a medium selection. The chicken is very juicy and tender. This place knows how to make tasty chicken. If you like some heat, this is your place.
They have a bunch of tables and hightops. You can get beer as well, to help cool the heat. You order from the counter.
If you are looking for hot chicken, I would recommend Prince's.
Kaycee Bush
The chicken is good, not great. Sides are mediocre but the chicken is worth a try (the heat will sneak up on ya 🤣). The chicken sandwich with sweet heat was dry but the regular chicken had good flavor. …
Everett Drake
THEEEE ABSOLUTE BEST HOT CHICKEN!!! I have been a fan for years and it's still amazing!!! You've tried the rest, now stick with the best, the ORIGINAL, PRINCE'S HOT CHICKEN!!!
E J Barnes
Delicious nice size wings. The price that was paid was worth the meal. I asked about the flavor the difference and the cashier was on point. I totally enjoyed my meal. The sides were enjoyable as well they were a bonus to the meal. I would have enjoyed the wings by themselves 👍😁. Thank you Prince's Chicken for a wonderful tasteful lunch experience. Whenever I am visiting from Texas this will be my first spot to visit. Much continued success ❣️
ps: the food looked so good I dug in right away and forgot to take a photo 🤣
David Lynn
Mrs. André's location here is great—a lot more space than she had back on Ewing, but with the same great food. Thanks for the best fried chicken in the world!
Daren McCurdy
I really wasn't impressed. We came in from out of town to try the famous hot chicken, and it didn't taste like anything special. It was actually quite greasy, and the prices aren't that great either.
Not sure it's worth a stop. There might be better places in the area to try out.
Chyno Deluxe
I tried the 4 piece medium hot tenders and it definitely has a kick to it. Although it was spicy it still had plenty of flavor. 100% would go back and recommend.
O “Reviewer TN”
The chicken tender was great but sides were horrible (tried the potato salad, mac and cheese - fries were meh). The ranch is packet of ranch. The pickels were soggy can had no crunch. I'd eat the chicken again, but only that.
Nicholas Li
Best chicken ever. We came from Nebraska to have it.
Samantha Prince
Best fried chicken of my life. Order the thighs. Beware of heat beyond "mild," it's alllllll hotttt. So good!! It's even amazing reheated (as seen below).
John John
Chicken was cooked to perfection .I went with the hot and very tasty had the breast and wing quarter.I added 3 whole wings with mild . Potato Salad and baked beans was excellent.would have tried cheese and macaroni but they were sold out.i will be going back
Versile Johnson
Solid food, lite mild or lite for those of us that are weak! Tenders and leg quarters were amazing. Really small sides but they were delicious. Don't forget everything is made fresh so takes a bit.
LaToya Lee
My first time at the new spot and I must say that I'm extremely impressed and fell in love with the feeling of the environment... Great food, friendly staff, and I will be becoming an "regular" again!
Branden Wang
Good food, I ordered and got my food within 15 minutes, a bit pricy but overall I would come back.
Kayla Rogers
BE CAREFUL WITH THE BREAD.
The heat level of the chicken didn’t bother me at all. Without thinking I ate some of the soaked bread and the pain was intense and immediate, all the way down my throat burned like fire. Eyes and nose running like a faucet. Started to panic because I could not breathe well. Was it awesome though? Yeah, pretty much. I recommend asking for extra bread on the side lol

Don't forget to try the Sweet Tea. Also if they have macaroni and cheese, get it!
Antony Jeyaraj
Really worth for the money we pay taste is really delicious. The chicken we ordered is really good. I should guvev5 stars but the wait time is really too bad. For three of the dishes we ordered they took 56 minutes to deliver. Place us too much crowded and you need wait queue for 10 mins atleast to place your order then to get your order delivered be patient they are taking nearly an hour. If you r planning for take away place the order before you start from your home or 50 mind earlier. Taste wise good but wait time a bad night mare

Ate at Prince’s and then at Hattie B’s and for flavor of their hot chicken….my winner is …Prince’s Hot chicken. The heat was over the top and the flavor…was addictive…I wanted to come back for more ….and when I think of amazing foods…Prince’s come’s to mind…met the owner - she is an amazing super sweet lady who genuinely cares about her customers!
M Chu
Did not live ip to the hype. Sorry. Had high hopes as Prince's was supposed to be where it all started. Staff was polite but could've been more friendly. Wife and sons all ordered the tenders ranging from plain to mild while I went with the quarter dark hot. The employee explained hot was HOT as it was habanero. The x-hot was ghost pepper. The xx-hot... who knows?!
Sides are separate. We ordered two fries, two coleslaws, and one baked beans. Fries were average. Beans were a bit sweet. Coleslaws were very good.
The chicken was average. Having had Haddie B's a few days earlier, I thought Prince's was supposed to put the argument to rest. It did not. It tasted like a good properly fried piece of chicken with hot sauce and marinade. My eyes did water and cheeks get a little sweaty, but there was no agonizing pain or cries for milk.
No real Southern hospitality here as my oldest son's request for ketchup was met with a "It'll cost you $3 for some." Really? Glad to have checked Prince's out. It did not live up to our expectations, but judging by the continuous line of customers, they won't skip a single beat.
Vinne Sis
Let’s first off lady in blue shirt attitude sucked. If you hate your job so much quit. The food took 30 minutes. The Mac and cheese sucked omg the legit worse Mac and cheese in my life. Literally sliced plastic American cheese and black pepper gross. Chicken was good.
Matt Houston
Our order got mixed up so we had XXX hot instead of hot but didn't figure this out until we'd battled our way through trying to eat it. Seemed greasy compared to Hattie B's and some of the independent chicken places we tried.
Natalie Hicks
The chicken was great!!! When I am back in Nashville, I will be back!!! Customer Service was superb!!!
Kris Pedersen
Some of the best fried chicken in the world! Then it's made that much better with that legendary formula for truly special Nashville 🔥! …
Jesse Qualls
Best chicken I've ever put in my mouth ..pricy..but very good
Andrea Wu
Hot chicken's famous in Nashville and I was recommend Prince's, so I came here on a weekday around noon for lunch. I got the sandwich with the spicy sauce, and it took a long time for me to get my order, almost 20 minutes and other people after me in line already got their food. Staff was masked as were other people ordering and waiting for their orders, such a contrast per usual Tennessee. Anyway, lots of tables inside, I ate my food outside. The chicken was crispy and spicy, and I enjoyed the sauce that came with it. The thick part of the chicken was slightly dry and the thinner part of batter was hard though. At almost $10 post-tax, it's quite pricey for a sandwich!

Every time I visit Nashville I MUST stop by Prince's Hot Chicken. I recommend trying the medium on your first visit, it certainly gives you perspective. However, if you like spicy (HOT) food by all means go for the hot or even hotter. Just be warned about eating the bread. I always say "I won't do it this time!" but I always do, and I'm usually back and forth about it afterwards. HAHA

I tried chicken strips. I got the plain and light mild. I tried the plain and they were spicy. I wasn't expecting that. So I never tried the others. Baked beans were sweet and Mac and cheese was okay nothing special.
Brian
Excellent food! Xx hot was awesome. Next time I'll move up 1 spot to the hottest
RENEE PERRON
There’s not enough words to say how amazing this chicken is. Always hot no Nashville chicken can compare.
Rick Hammond
Best meal on our 4 day Nashville trip, and we ate at a lot of highly rated places, this was the best. Chicken was amazing, you can actually taste the fresh spice profile. My wife had mild and I had hot, both were excellent and perfectly cooked chicken. Collard greens and Mac and cheese were on point. Way better than that other Ms. B’s “hot chicken” place chain disaster.
Paul Moody
Just excellent fried chicken. They're not joking around about the "hot" either. If you are used to fast food hot, then stick with the mild or medium. Red velvet cake for desert was also outstanding. If you are in Nashville, definitely try them out.
Katelyn Stachovich
On vacation and couldn't leave Nashville without going to the home of the Nashville Hot Chicken; and it did not disappoint!
The only downside is it being 860 miles from home!
Amy Clarke
The chicken was good but they messed up my order and I was in a rush since I only have a 30 minute lunch break!!
Casey Gordon
Sorry no photos, but I got so excited after the wait. Best Nashville hot chicken and this is the only location you should go to. As a note, expect a 20-30 minute wait time, this place is that busy because it is that good. I was there at 2:30pm.
Domonique R.
Slow, but it's mostly made to order and the chicken is good so I'm not going to complain too much. If possible, order ahead. However long they say it will take, add about 10min plus drive time.
I usually get the wings with fries and slaw w/ extra bread and pickles. I get this most hot chicken places because it's really hard to mess up wings (it's happened, just not here thank goodness).
Kristin Andreae
Excellent chicken sandwich! Parking was tough, small lot with tight spaces. Long wait for food, but worth it.
Santino Costa
The staff was very nice and quick with large orders. The chicken tenders were cooked perfectly and the mild sauce was just the right amount of hot. We visited from NJ and will definitely be back next time we make it out to that area.
Mekalah Rodriguez
Let me tell you... we were driving through TN to PA and decided to stop here for some wings.... The chicken is so tasty but do not be confused, their mild is really spicy!
Borne Phree Bear
Hope you like your food Spicy, because this place delivers. Always busy, always delicious. Try the Half Breast or the Tenders with fries or beans such a classic dish. Of course there's going to be a wait. Home of the Famous Nashville Hot Chicken!!! Worth the wait, very tasty.
Jesse Bunnell
Delicious chicken. It sure is hot! So be prepared but that’s what I was expecting. Staff was very friendly! I’ll def stop by next time I’m in Nashville.
Belle BottomBlues
Mac n cheese: delicious
Strawberry Cake: MIND BLOWING!!
Really nice artwork by a local artist in the dining area too. A breathtaking painting of Jackie Robinson as a boy looking at himself as a man. I don't think any of the artwork is for sale, but it would be worth contacting the artist for a commissioned piece.
Peter R.
They're not kidding about the heat here. We ordered the hot, and while I like spicy, it was all I could handle. Service was slow and a bit incompetent, frankly, but not unexpected.
Macy C.
This is the real finger lickin' good chicken but don't go above mild or its not edible. If you like HOT chicken, this is the joint.
Toni Isaacs
Customer service is great and you know what the chicken is, that's why I drove 50 miles there and back to get it!
Sining Q
Super juicy and flavourful chicken!! I wish their online order shows all the spice level though! I only saw 4 levels online
STEVE L
Had the xx hot. It was all that. But the big plus is that they use high quality chicken which made it even better
Tamera Lanier (Gaga)
A+ the best hot fried chicken ever! 100 percent amazing customer service ! Bathrooms clean, offered dine in and out side seating. Thanks guys!
Dennis Chachere
Really good hot chicken, I highly recommend
Upmost Tycoon
The Chicken is great the service was great I didn't care for the side dishes. But I will definitely go back for the Hot Chicken.
T.J. Rare Coins
The chicken had a nice kick to it with great tenderness! We spoke to the owner on the way out and she was very friendly and passionate! Hence my rating 5 Stars!
Dominique Motley
First time trying Prince’s Hot Chicken, and it was absolutely delicious!!! Nobody does hot chicken like Prince’s 🔥 …
Lizzi Kocik
Great food, but the wait was super long. To be fair though they were slammed and it is a Saturday too. Be prepared to wait like 40 min to a little over an hour when you come. My only complaint was that they were out of Mac and cheese, no biggie it happens. But we got baked beans instead and it tasted like someone dumped a bag of sugar inside of it. Way too sweet. All in all would go back again. And the staff was really nice too.
James Humphreys
Be there before 11am or prepare to wait in line. The chicken is on point and actually spicy.
Gloria Patton
Chicken was great. Good size pieces and the spicy were awesome. They were extremely busy but the wait was not bad.
Stanley Jackson
Man, when I tell you this food was good, I mean it. Was hot and fresh. I got the mild, and it was just the right spiciness. It was delicious. Highly recommend you try it.
Jennifer Warren
You come here for the experience - the food is legend. Medium was pretty hot - lingering hot - order with care!!!
Michael Copley
What the heck! why is the chicken so good? Probably the best chicken wings I've ever had. Beware: Mild was super spicy so not sure what the hot would be like.
Bo Medsker
I got hot and it was just right, any hotter, and it would've got bad for me. I definitely recommend this place if you like hot chicken.
Alicia Lawrence
This was our first visit to Prince’s after being referred by family who live in the area. My family and I had the chicken tenders and fries and it was very tasty! The chicken, although we ordered mild, was still a little spicy. But delicious nonetheless! We topped it off with a slice of pecan pie and red velvet cake. The pecan pie was just ok, but the velvet cake??? It was to die for!! Absolutely scrumptious! The only reason I gave this restaurant a 4 star instead of 5, is because we waited a good 45 minutes for 4 chicken tenders meals.
Jonathan Rourk
I used to go to their original location at 123 Ewing Drive in North Nashville unit that SUV drove through it and caught it on fire.
This used to be my favorite place for hot chicken in nashville.
I had not eaten their food since 2018.
This is my first time going to the newer South Nashville location.
They still have the no nonsense make your order and move on attitude. But the food is not as same at it was.
It just didn't have the home fried taste that it used too. And the prices are much higher now too.
I think they have gotten so much acclaim that they are now putting less effort into the daily quality control. Or maybe I just stopped by on a day when the head cook of not there and it's usually better. I tried tenders and a breast and the breast is better than the tenders. Don't bother with the fries. They are mediocre.
Jeff J
It was good, I enjoyed the experience. If I'm in the area again, I wouldn't hesitate to come back through
Kemoshire
The chicken was great but the hot oil could use some flavor. I enjoyed it! It was hot and juicy
Luchino Castagno
Great sandwich. Hot wasn't too hot. Delicious beans.
Cornelius Coachman (indiscretion)
Definitely the best hot chicken ever. As a comparison, their mild is as hot as Hattie Bs hot. I got the tenders. The skin was crispy and the tenders were juicy.
James W
I have been told to eat here when I come to Nashville by several different people.
Four of us had a late lunch here today. It was a long wait but not nearly as long as it looked.
We were warned that mild is very hot. I like hot but went ahead and stuck with mild as did my wife and sister in law. My brother in law got hot. The ladies liked the chicken a lot but mild was too hot for them. My brother in law couldn't handle his hot so he took some of his wife's mild and I killed off his hot chicken. It was not too hot for me.
Great food and service!!! I cant wait for another trip to Nashville and come here again.
LittleStar 11
Delish! Quick and so good! So glad I didn’t have to wait 45 minutes for those 2 chicken fingers!
Brian Foster
(Born local) Overall experience: 7, worth the trip, but I'd recommend Hattie B's for just a few dollars more.
Atmosphere: 9, it's great overall but a total mess for TV programming. Like not what would keep me there past my meal.
Wait time for food: 1, like when is it okay to warn of a 25 minute wait time and then take over 30? We're talking about 100% fried food. By the time we got our food, there were numerous people in line angry about the wait time.
Food: 5, the chicken cuts for tenders are kinda sparse. Their advertised hottest chicken is lacking by current Nashville hot chicken standards. Plenty of cayenne but no ghost pepper.
Local flavor: 8, great Nashville original, will probably be your first and last experience with this type of burn.
Want: Unsweet tea, not an empty container. Some of us are okay without the extra oversized spoonful of sugar.
Karma Vulture
The chicken is pretty good. The sides however are so insanely over priced. I got a thimble of baked beans and mac & cheese (some of the cheapest food on the planet) for 3 dollars a piece. I get that inflation is out of control, but come on. A dollar a bite? Don’t waste your money. Just get the chicken.
Elanor Riley
THE REAL DEAL! This was delicious, cheap, and amazing hot chicken. They aren't lying; mild IS hot but it's a good hot!
Kristyn Wighton
Yum yum! My husband and I loved the chicken, cooked perfectly and the potato salad was delicious with a nice mustard flavour. Mac N cheese is more traditional buttery cheesy but not creamy. A bit of long wait for the food so come prepared as it's definitely worth the wait we just weren't expecting 30-40 mins for take out!
Mike Kimble
This place is exactly as advertised. Good fried hot spicy chicken. I got the chicken sandwich with the regular hot sauce on it and boy did that light me up. Total respect for anybody who goes hotter than the regular hot sauce because I was hurting for a while after that. On my next trip to Nashville I will definitely be returning to this place.
Rachel Contri
The best fried chicken that I’ve ever had. I got the chicken sandwich and it was incredible. A Nashville classic for a reason! The space is large and the line to order moved quickly.
Clayton Clark
This place is phenomenal and they have the best Nashville hot chicken (coming from a third generation Nashville native). Make sure you're ready to sweat while enjoying a true Nashville experience. 👍 You've gotta support this wonderful local business! …
john lyles
Service a bit different - no nonsense staff may suffer fools who are new. That may be part of the experience. On to the chicken - Hot will pepper you up nicely. Hot is part of the experience but the flavor was Dyno freaking mite! The OG of hot chicken is a must.
Max Wood
We heard good things and made a special trip BUT...when we got there we were told it was a 40 minute wait for food. Decided not to wait so I have no idea if it's any good.
Christa
So disappointed. Was suggested by a local. Dry flavorless chicken, tenders were supposed to be hot but they were not even mild. Tenders were moister thank the bone in breast. The greens were super salty and a tiny portion. If you took a bit if that with the bland chicken it toned it down. Mac and cheese was flavorless and didn't eat. Fries were fantastic. Waited about 45 min for our meal so we didn't want to send anything back as we were starving. I so hope for more with all the reviews. 😩
Tim Irwin
I really hate to give less stars this review from the stellar visit last time. Our wait time was over an hour (understaffed, i get it because of Covid, so not really complaining about that, its an issue everywhere) but out food was really disappointing this time. Mine was overcooked and the chicken strips were tiny compared to previous visits, i ordered xtra hot and it was not spicy.. the prior visit hot was a good heat. I am hoping it was just a fluke that the food quality wasn't up to the same standard as last time. The Ladies working the register were super friendly too!! :)
Thomas Lang
Good hot chicken, iconic and historic but still somewhat disappointed (sandwich was very squished and mediocre). Highly recommend going to Hattie B’s instead
Nelson Hudson
I live and Charlotte NC originally from Louisiana in town til Thursday 5/7/19 and I Google chicken and hot chicken popped up I'm like what is hot chicken. 5/3 somebody said go to Hattie B. I went and brought the chicken back to my room and it was some pretty good hot chicken so I was going again because I got the Damn Hot Chicken so I was going to dumb it down and get the hot chicken but I told somebody about it and they said no you need to go to PRINCE'S I was like ok 5/4 I went to Prince's and I tell you these people are selling CRACK on a bone. Bruh... Bruh....I mean CRACKALIOUS HOT CHICKEN. This Chicken is so good I'm Taking some back to Charlotte on 5/7. Prince whoever you are, You should have been a KING
Yung Kingsley
Give it to them for being the original but let’s be real the chicken quality is not close to others ie Bolton or Hattie b … rubbery like it was frozen or something
Kourtenay Huggins
Love prince's!! Every time I go the food is just always SO good and i want everything on the menu lol. The only issue we had yesterday during our visit was the attitude of the young lady taking our order. She was very much rude and all around unpleasant. Despite that, everything else was great.
sylvester sanchez
I wished I took pictures. The chicken is king here. Everytime I'm in Nashville I always take the time to have the original Nashville hot chicken sandwhich extra hot. And it is just that HOT!!! totally worth your time.
Eric Merrill
So good, lots of choices in Nashville for Hot Chicken but this is by far the best. The sides are all really good and the levels of heat are perfectly "spaced" for the low end to hot. The fact that they go all the way to XXX Hot is nuts, medium and hot are the highest we could eat enjoyable.
Kyle Lee
Solid Chicken. Ordered hot, but it was not as spicy as I thought it was going to be. Wait was around 45 minutes, but was worth it.
Laura Graham
I live in Nashville and just tried this place for the first time. The fried chicken was amazing (and we are known for fried chicken). Very tender and juicy, and great flavor! The skin is crispy, perfect. I would suggest ordering one level down in terms of spice and heat. I ordered medium and it felt like hot. Great value too!
taryn roane
I don’t even know where to start. This was the best fried chicken I’ve ever had. Seriously!!! Better than moms. I decided to get the HOT because I love spice but wanted to enjoy it being that it was my first time having it and first time in TN. When I come back I will definitely scoop me 3 more wings. Oh yea....get the mango tea. LAWD!!!!! It was amazing.
Katrina W
THE 'ORIGINAL', THE 'FIRST' AND THE 'BEST' HOT CHICKEN! South Location 5814 Nolensville Pike & Food Truck Location 423 6th Avenue South. Both in Nashville!
AW
My favorite Nashville Hot Chicken spot. The original Hot Chicken spot. I normally get the mild, which is strong in flavor and taste. Leg quarters all day. I normally get two. One to eat now and one for later. Don't forget to eat the bread and add extra pickles.
Wanda Gould
Always wanted to stop in and try the food at this spot. We finally got the opportunity to do so today. It was well worth our wait!
Even the 'mild' chicken Andre sandwich with kickin ranch has got a tasty bite! Sweet heat is also a great flavor.
My husband is a plain chicken man, no sauce, but he loved the big fat boneless chicken breast in the sandwich served with coleslaw to put on sandwich or as a small side.
I especially admired the colorful painting of the late Mr. B.B. King upon the walls inside; he is my no. 1 blues guy!
Service is with a smile and with speed. Plenty of nice things to look at while waiting.
Desserts from the south all live there as well, even hummingbird cake! Yum!
Next time I will be throwing down on some of the collard greens!
Tasty, fairly fast, busy, and great service.
I loved the entire experience! Got to enjoy this place with my fire-breathing son; he loves the heat.
See y'all soon!
Shpetim Idrizi
Excellent crispy, juicy chicken. Great portion size. Seasoning/sauce is truly uniqe. Very nice pasty texture to sauce, go as hot or as you like, but mild is still spicy. Uniqe and worth the visit.
L Dorsey
It was my first experience with Prince's "hot chicken 🍗"! All I can say is - yikes 😳!!! The medium heat🔥🔥had my 👄 mouth on fire 🔥 Great flavor but I will definitely try mild heat the next time 😁 …
Eric Bunch
Best hot chicken in Nashville. Little expensive! They don't offer combos so be prepared to pay extra for sides. But again BEST hot chicken in Nashville.
Sohail Muzammil
Great chicken. The hype is real! Fries really good, potato salad is probably a million calories so avoid..
Devon Ruiz
I love spicy stuff but this chicken is SPICY. Very good though.
Travis Mansfield
I eat a lot of really spicy food. I got the extra hot here which was almost too hot for me. Order anything hotter at you own risk! Loved the place though, wish we had one in Austin

💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
YUMZUP. 💎
Nobody does it better!!!!!!!!!
2/19/22 Lunch Hour
Be prepared to wait during busy hours cuz when its busy, its b u s y! but definitely worth the wait.
💎It could improve maybe by adding a monitor or visiual system to help things flow a bit better with the ordering/pick up process.
💥Multiple locations
💥They hit the mark with flavor, kick and juiciness
💥They stay busy so that tells you how much Customers enjoy their food.
Thumb
💥Good prices, a lot of people bring their families/ large groups so the price is very amicable Sorry no pics.
Erin Anders
The chicken is so good and I have been craving this some I woke up this morning. All in all the food is super tasty. Downside is the the wait.. and no it’s not worth the wait. I’ve been here an hour waiting and I still don’t have my food…. It takes soooooooo long. If you have places to be and need a “quick” lunch, don’t come here. There is nothin quick about it. 2 stars lost for how long it takes and the lack of customer service from the cashiers.
Ghost Ninja
Great food but the poor customer experience and overall atmosphere ruined it
Thao Tran
I have had better fried chicken/chicken tenders.
The good: Chicken leg quarter is moist and fall-off-the bone. Spicy.
The bad: 1. Chicken tender is dry. If you want something moist and tender, get the chicken leg quarter 2. The size of most of the sides are pathetic - small and not worth the money. The mac and cheese are two bites worth for $3.00 and it does not taste as good as Kraft Mac and Cheese. 3. You do get a lot of fries but they are cheapest crinkle cuts that you can buy in bulk with Cajun seasoning sprinkled on afterwards. 4. They try to charge us $4.00 for water. Skip it and ask for tap water. 5. They charge over a $1 for a packet of ranch (not even one free one first).
Advice: Skip the dine in. Order the chicken leg quarter to go. Buy your sides at Walmart (they may even taste better). Get yourself a bottle of ranch for what they would charge for a packet. OR get your chicken from Popeyes if there is one near you (better bang for your bucks).
Perry J
Chicken was hot and spicy but not very flavorful. Tasty potato salad and baked beans.
A. J.
We tried this chicken the last time we were in town and it was one of the best we've ever had of any establishment in the United States.
Maybe I'm overselling it, but I like their chicken sandwich better than KFC, Chick-fil-A, McDonald's, and Burger King.....
I can't wait to go back this summer. Grab a sandwich and listen to music.
Doc Ryan
came here because it was the original hot Nashville chicken sandwich. The sandwich itself was pretty good, I also got the xxxl chicken tenders, which in my opinion weren't very hot nor did they taste good.
Kelli Knight
1st stop because they are the original inventors of HOT CHICKEN.... Giving full credit to this #blackowned business for their investment into their Town & State...
Ms. Prince and her family legacy is still a
Billion $ concept.....
Brian Noll
Chicken is tender, juicy and crispy! Everything comes out hot and fresh, because there is NO down time between the kitchen and your table. Counter service only and when your order is up, they'll call your name over the PA system. This place feels like a total throwback or something you'd see in a movie scene. If you're in Nashville don't miss a chance to stop in!
Trevor Barnett
We went in hoping to order the XXX-hot but unfortunately princes was out of everything hotter than “hot”. The Chicken was crispy and juicy, definitely worth trying. The hot level was a nice heat, if a bit subtle on the spice. Hopefully next time we’re in the area they’ll habe the hottest ones ready to go!
Russell Hughes
Excellent chicken. Was apprehensive about the spicy heat as friends said it was too spicy for them (they ordered mild and medium). Ordered medium but should have ordered hot as I like to sweat a little.
Diane Huynh
Probably the best fried chicken I've ever had! So delicious. The meat was seasoned just right. Yummmm!
Jerry Christian
I had to try the hot chicken of course. They were pretty busy so my sister and I went to Walmart while our order was being prepared and when we came back, they called her name like 5 minutes later lol. The potato salad is good but the regular sides portion is small so you might want to pay for a pint. Also, they don't have dinner options so it's a la carte.
Suzy Elmore
We are visiting from North Idaho and I just had to stop at the original! We had the hot and the medium sandwich with fries. So delicious! I wish we lived closer and could enjoy this all the time. Awesome 😁 …
Eric Berger
Holy cow, the aftermath was rough. But hot chicken is hot chicken and Prince's is the original. Pretty much exactly what I expected in the best ways and in the worst ways.
Basem Istanbouli
Tried the mild and medium and they really aren't that hot. Everyone who says the mild is spicy enough can't even handle tabasco sauce.
If you're looking for a good middle ground I'd definitely try the hot. I think anything after these levels will make eating them more of a task than an enjoyable meal.
All in all, this place has great fried chicken!! Just don't listen to all the reviews telling you to get the medium, go for the hot because after all...it's Prince's *HOT* chicken.
Don't be a wuss. Thanks Prince's!
Nicole Williams
Awesome chicken. Be ready to wait about a hour. Very popular joint. Side dishes are very small for $ charged. Had to order two Mac and cheese for 3 yr old. They came in 4 oz condiment cups 🤔
Bell
Prince’s Hot Chicken always delivers! The original hot chicken in Nashville and so close by! I warned my friend against getting hot or extra hot, but he didn’t take the warning and was burning! But according him “it’s a good pain” lol!
Kaley
This place is deliciously hot. We walked in and saw a huge line and knew that we were in business for something tasty.
I got a kids meal (I know, I know but to redeem, I did get it with x hot) and the hubs got the breast with the mild sauce. For a minute, I'm pretty sure that I saw the bright tunnel light of heat but once it passed, I really enjoyed everything about this meal. The more I had the less of a heat it had-odd. My hubs on the other side was just enjoying the flavour, there was no tunnel for him. The sweet tea was fantastic and perfect for the heat of the chicken.
I was bummed that ranch dressing was $1, but more so that it wasn't made in house. It was Ken's Dressing which made me kinda bummed.
I will for sure be back this gal has wants to try the next level up!
Janice Dillard
Needs to come back the old east Nashville area this is a long drive we are down to once a month prince's chicken pick up and the price has gone up for horrible parking
Ol James G
The best hot chicken in Nashville. Chicken was amazing and seasoning was perfect. Staff was great.
J Zhao
Absolute best Nashville hot chicken. Get this every time we visit. Spice levels are legit. Even mild has a slight kick.
Donald Seymour
If you are Black, African, or Mexican get hot if you like hot. Their heat scale is made for the European descendants, not for us. But the flavor was awesome. I got the tenders and they oozed out with flavor. So, definitely go there for the flavor and experience.
WhatTheDupreesDoing
I tried the HOT, you can be brave and try anything above that. Its good though....and hot!! Cool atmosphere with plenty of tv's and seating.
Cynthia Johnson
The chicken was delicious as usual! The potato salad is just Mustard & potatoes 🥔 no mayonnaise so if you don't like Mustard I would not suggest. The baked beans are good. Only 25 minute wait on a Friday at 4:30pm.
Rudy Tan
Had the waiting time not too long, this should be 5 stars. The place was crowded, and we waited in line to order and waited another hour to get the food.
The food was very good. The chicken had a good amount of spices, crispy and spicy on the outside but moist and tasty inside.
The price was very reasonable.
The parking could be difficult.
Toni Olarry
Prince’s Hot Chicken Shack ....If you are a out of town guest,,, go to the counter to place your order. Don’t wait to be seated! Seat yourself... Prince’s Hot Chicken loved the Atmosphere pretty cool! This place stayed very busy, that’s when you know that the food is good!!!! My husband and I suggest don’t go over the Hot flavor... Actually mild was pretty hot for me. The chicken was so good from the little bit that I tasted, I couldn’t enjoy it because it was too hot.... Princes chicken is amazing. I wish they would have told us more about there flavors or had a chart of the heat levels.... Plain flavored would’ve worked for me... Great place great food just be Cautious of the flavors!!!!!!
Angela Mallory Jones
Love this place. My first-time was last week, and I'll definitely be back. The only thing I would change is the bone in chicken, we had purchased chicken sandwiches. So that was a little problem. But not a big deal though.
mikeytcb
I've been hearing about Nashville's Hot Chicken for awhile so while traveling on I-40 Joan and I had to give it a try. Prince's hot chicken shack south came up in our search so we that's where we went. They have inside and outside seating. The tables are first come, first served. But first you have to place your order at the counter. The staff were nice and the menu is simple. You got your whole, half, quarter chicken dinners or your choice of wings or tenders. They have pop, tea and beer, bottle or draft. I got the half and Joan got the quarter. I got hot and Joan got mild. The hot was hot enough for me. Just enough heat to make my eyes run but not so much I couldn't enjoy it. I got the beans which were sweet and good but should have picked coleslaw to temper the spices a little. Joan and I both felt like honey would be really good on the hot chicken. The chicken was cooked perfectly. The next time I travel this way I will stop here to eat.

Hands down, best hot chicken I’ve ever had. It’s actually spicy. I tried the x hot and the xx hot.
Very friendly service. There was a line already even before they opened. I want to go back to Nashville just so I can have more of this chicken.

Food was delicious as always despite not having any dark meat today at lunch. It took 37 minutes to receive our order from the time on our receipt. If I would have known that based on amount of time that I had for lunch I would have called ahead or chosen somewhere else to eat lunch. I will always support local and like Prince's better than the over-hyped Hattie B's, but man when you start getting hangry it's rough.

Always such a great experience here. Always tasteful and the environment is always welcoming. But, to say the least they stand by their name HOT CHICKEN. Be modest about your decision to challenge your taste buds when eating here. Or dont your stomach. Lol

I've been waiting for years to try it, ever since I read a review in some magazine. I had Nashville hot chicken in Atlanta a few times, and even cooked it for myself, but I wanted to go right to the source.
So during a visit to Nashville with my girlfriend, we popped in one Monday night for some delicious spicy chicken. I got a leg, XX hot (Level 7 out of 8), on a bed of fries and two pieces of white bread.
It was great. Super spicy, a perfect amount, and full of flavor. The meat was cooked perfectly, and the skin was crispy. The fries were good, crinkle-cut with seasoned salt, and went well with the honey mustard.
She had mild (level 3) chicken tenders, which were also very good. Had appropriate spice levels for her, and tasted good. Side of baked beans was nice.
We had a nice wooden table, not too close to anyone (because of Covid), and the ambience was fine. TV's around, and the chatter of the other customers. Watching their faces as they tried the spicier chicken was its own treat. "Bro my tongue's on fire!!"
Highly recommended. I liked it more than Hattie B's, and I want to come back ASAP to try the XXX. COME TRY IT

Phenomenal, as always. It's been 3 years since I've gotten to taste what I consider to be the best fried chicken ever. It's been a couple years since I've been to Nashville, which used to be a yearly trip on my B-Day weekend but was halted because of covid. But I'm finally back and the very first stop, as always, is Prince's. Had to make up for lost time so I ordered two leg quarters with medium heat. Also, you can't leave without trying their amazing potato salad, it cools the burn just right. I'm afraid I didn't get any pics bc I devoured it all in record time. I'm hurting a little but it's a welcomed discomfort to have gotten to taste the best fried chicken made by the best people. Can't wait til next year. Check them out at princeshotchicken.com and be sure to stop in next time you're in Nashville.

My advice, order something other than chicken tenders...
1 hour wait for 8 chicken tenders... (Lost 1 star)
However, the chicken was really good! Finger licken good.
Their XXX Hot sauce is significantly less hot than Wingstop's Atomic sauce and Buffalo Wild Wing's Blazing sauce. There was a good ratio of sauce to chicken.
I left crying from the heat. 😍

This place is great. Don't leave Nashville without a stop at one of the Prince's locations.

I ordered hot chicken tenders. I think it's the best fried chicken I've ever had, even without the skin. They managed to couple complex flavors with slow growing heat. I was in tears by the end, but it was absolutely worth it.
The potato salad was a little too sweet for my taste, but it had a good texture and flavor.

The sweet heat hot chicken sandwhich here was delicious! Of all the places we visited for hot chicken in Nashville, Prince's had the best tasting hot chicken sandwhich. They had ran out of legs/thighs so we also got the tenders in their medium and hot heats, this was also pretty good. The sides were great; fries and coleslaw were excellent and made a good chicken sandwhich into a great meal. Restaurant is pretty neat and I would recommend getting here right before their lunch hour rush if you want low wait times. We got the sandwhiches in the hot heat level but I think you could go up to X heat if you can tolerate it and feel adventurous. Overall, everything tasted pretty good and I would recommend visiting Prince's for their hot chicken. I highly recommend their sweet heat sandwhich!

I’ve been eating at princes since I was child. In my opinion they have the best chicken in town! Good breast quarters, wings, tenders, etc. I’m not sure if I can handle the spice anymore, but I get stomach aches every time I eat here now. The chicken is so addicting that’s why I always go back. Of course I’ll give them a 5 star, cause I’m sure I’ll be back again next week. Lol

Awesome food, great service, and smiling faces! Will be back soon.

Perfectly cooked and spiced chicken. Takes a bit because it's fresh, but well worth the wait. Good tunes inside too :)
David DiMuzio
Virtually no atmosphere to this restaurant. When we received our food it was cold. I would rate this one or two stars, but the staff members were nice about remaking our food after we received it cold, and it was hot when they remade it for us, so I added two stars since they were nice about the long wait and cold food. Even hot the food was not that great though...
Kassandra
It's a little bit on the pricier side since they don't offer plates. You pick your chicken and sides separately. Everything was still great! Take note they are spicier than most hot chicken places in Nashville and surprisingly their greens was the star of the sides
Ricardo De Leon
Not the original location, but still amazing. Restaurant is clean and employees are friendly and above all, it's the original Nashville Hot Chicken recipe. Absolutely delicious, I just wish they had better sides. However you don't come here for the sides, you come here for the hot chicken. Definitely a must if you're on a hot chicken journey
Miklos Halmos
Everything you can hope for in Nashville hot chicken! It was amazing! Fast service, flavorful chicken, and great texture. It was deliciously greasy on bred with pickles (the original way) and perfect freshness. I had the hottest spice, and definitely was exciting eating! Highly recommend this original spot, even if it's a drive! Just count on a wait if it's a usual meal time.
Melissa Sullivan
Great atmosphere and amazing chicken! 😋❤ We will definitely be back. The xxx hot is insanely spicy and you will be sweating. We enjoyed the plain and lite mild. It is authentic hot chicken for sure! …

I ordered the half chicken, hot, with fries and baked beans. The fries were thick crinkles and heavily seasoned. Very tasty, and good to cut the heat of the chicken with. The beans were really sweet, and I can only imagine how much brown sugar went into their making. The star was the chicken, as it should be. The half bird was deliciously crispy, with a thick almost gritty/oily coating of spice. The breast section plump and juicy, and the white bread the chicken was served on did a great job of sopping up the oily goodness. My fingers and lips were tingling and nose was running, but I found the spice level quite manageable. If you're used to the spices used in Asian foods or decent quality hot sauces then this shouldn't be too much of a challenge. It's worth a stop!
Danny
Hot chicken. Don't go hotter than hot. Good food and decent prices. Fun location.
Tyler Anderson
Fantastic fried chicken with a great kick!
I ordered the XX HOT and highly recommend it !
Cooked to order so it takes a minute but it is well qorth the wait
Jeffery Goddard
Love their 3 piece wings but twice in a row they have messed up our orders for takeout.
Last week they didn’t put any spice on what were supposed to be seasoned fries so today I specifically asked that they put extra on them. Sure enough, we got home and there was only a tiny bit of seasoning on one corner. And we only received one order of fries even though they charged us for two.
Aaaargh!

Coming in from out of town, wanted to have some really good chicken. They did not disappoint and the staff was super friendly and courteous! Would recommend ten times over! Will return when back in town!
Joe Nobody
The one that started the entire Nashville hot chicken craze across the country did not disappoint yet again.
We went there 2 days in a row and it was perfect, consistent and delicious both times. The bird it very tender and juicy while the skin is crunchy and delicious.
They are definitely the best in town, there are plenty of imitators around (no need to name them, we all know who they are) but no one comes close (except maybe for Moore's).
I had the hot the first day and the X-hot the second. I will be giving the xx-hot a try on the way back home in couple of days
Alecia Lake
I get the plain chicken from here and the flavor they pack into this chicken is incredible! They should sell the seasoning if they don't already! Unfortunately the customer service is some of the worst I have ever received in my life. It keeps me from coming back. Also, the progression of spice is off. The lite mild is SOOO spicy. I can't imagine what the mild taste like!
Bud Anderson
That’s what I call real Nashville chicken. I definitely will be back when visiting Tennessee
Duane Herman
Spicy hot fried chicken.
If you are not familiar with Nashville hot chicken, it is deliciously dangerous. The first time I went I purchased the "Hot" option. It was at the peak of my tolerance for heat and I am a fan of hot sauces. I usually get "Medium" full wings and they are plenty hot.
Derek Sims
First time I've ever had a dopamine high from hot food
Jet Johnson
Love the chicken but the wait is usually long and the service is just okay. Still I’ll take this over any other chicken. Princes invented Nashville style Hot Chicken and none of the knockoffs - even the decent ones - have as good a flavor. And for those who are not familiar with real hot chicken, this ain’t Popeyes. Hot means hot, medium means less hot, and mild means not as hot as medium. Everything has some heat unless you get plain. And you need to have a good tolerance for hot foods if you get anything above medium.
Chris Ardelt
Meal itself was good, but even calling ahead to order had to wait about 30-40 min inside before recieving order. Also cost almost $100 for a meal for 4 adults and a kid which seemed excessive especially going with family meal vs individual portions.
Rachel Pirani
Prince invented hot chicken and I was not disappointed. Amazing flavor, and heat that didn't burn my face off but definitely required lots of coke and potato salad to cool down. I got the 3 piece wings in medium.
Jared Gomez
If your looking for some of the spiciest chicken in town, this is the place. Overall it was a good experience. They didn't have some sides available. I personally feel like this place is both overrated and underrated.
Master Dub
If you love super hot chicken this is the pace for you! Even the mild burned me up!🥵 Grear flavor awesome staff! …
Nicole Smith Daniels
This chicken was really good. I got the Hot Chicken and it was definitely on the spicy end, but at a good level. My husband got the Extra Hot Chicken and couldn't function properly for a while. There is definitely a huge difference between Hot and Extra Hot! Only reason I'm not giving it five stars is because it took a long time to order our food (with only a couple people in front of us) and a very long time to actually get the food.
Jameka Echols
The place is spacious. Friendly staff. Decent prices. I'm just not a fan of the chicken. It could be due to the fact I ordered medium and I was a wimp and couldn't handle or it wasn't much of a taste to the chicken itself. The crust was way too hard. I may have to go back and give them another try and order just a regular fried leg quarter and edit this review. The fries were great though. So def go there you may like them.
Cole Ellinwood
Worth the pain! Thank you to the person who took my order and advised against the xxx hot.
Zachery Darnell
I didn't know chicken could taste this good. From now on anytime I eat fried chicken I will feel like I'm cheating on Prince's.
Caleb
I have had hot chicken from around ~8 different places and Prince's is the best, followed by Bolton's. You can't go wrong here, food is always fantastic and the service is easy to get in and out. Hot is what I get, and I have tried x-hot but it is too much for me!
Ushab
Good food but I bought 60$ worth of food and when I got home there were only 2 of my orders in the bag had to go back to get the rest the girl working said that’s all the food I ordered I couldn’t check if it was because there was no room to check every table full good food but the service was kinda bad might have just been for me but all in all I would go for the food again
Joey
I may never physically recover from the spice I have just ingested. 10/10 highly recommend
Cassandra Daugette
So delicious. We got the "hot" Nashville Chicken and we will for sure be back. It was so spicy and perfect. Leftovers reheated perfectly. My brother got the mild and he said that was spicy too. If you don't like spice, approach with caution.
Wei Xu
Taste is not bad but very oily and greasy chicken. Feel like I was drinking oil while eating the chicken.
Noah Cain
Amazing service. The place was packed but the service was quick and friendly. They knew it was going to take a min and they knew exactly when our order was going to come up. The food was amazing and perfectly done.
MacKenzie Payer
We waited almost an hour to get our food, which is insane considering all they serve is chicken. Then they messed up our order and took almost 20 minutes to fix it. We never even got the replacement, just ended up with a refund and left without food. The quality of the chicken was really good though!
Ashby Reeves
This is probably the best chicken joint I have ever been too. I got the xxx spicy and let me tell you, 7+ hours later I am still feeling it. Though I have no regrets, ZERO. The flavor was balanced so perfectly with the knock your socks off heat. If I had to only eat fried chicken for the rest of my life you know damn well I’m eating at princes. My mouth was in a hell of my own choosing and let me tell you I’d go back tenfold.
Daniel Marsh
I came here on a friends recommendation saying the best Nashville Hot chicken was here and this place did not disappoint. The chicken was cooked and breaded perfectly and it is hot. I got the third from the top spiciest level and while it was spicy enough to make me cry, that is how I like my spicy food, it also had the most amazing explosion of flavor. I will be eating here again even if I have to fly to Nashville for it.
Belinda Bright
We visited Nashville! This is a must visit and eat if you visit Nashville! The chicken was sooo good but hot we got mild flavor and was still hot but the pickles were a nice combination we eat pickles with our chicken all the time from St.Louis MO.. the sides were not all that good they didn't have the mac & cheese available so we got fries and cole slaw and the beans...beans were the best but..they were just ok...the cole slaw helped wit the spiciness the fries were average but the season on top was hott!!! Overall the chicken and bread with pickles were definitely worth the fire in our mouths but definitely order with caution...the young girl was very nice who took our order and explained the levels of spiciness which really helped! 😀 we waited for 35min for our order but it was worth it.
Adam Gross
Loved it! Get the tenders and try 4 flavors in one visit. Even the XXHot, while VERY hot, tastes amazing. I love food that's way hot and the XX literally teared me up, but it was so damn good I couldn't stop. Every sauce they have is awesome! For me, this is the best Nashville Hot Chicken. Every time I'm in town I will be back!
