Visited for hot chicken week on Saturday afternoon. We had great service that was attentive. The chicken sandwich was a flavorful and well presented. It was my first time eating there. Loads of music industry memorabilia in the decor. I'll eat there again, soon.

A local recommended John A's for Sunday brunch during my Nashville visit. So glad we went! The outdoor patio was PERFECT. Fantastic grooves. Delicious food. Friendly service despite them being slammed. The pesto omelette was 10/10! Super fun Mother's Day treat was being told we. Could take home the gorgeous flowers on our table. Yay for #JoyJars

Found this local hot spot for brunch. Sunday brunch offers unlimited bloody Marys and Mimosas for $20. Everything from eggs and burgers were on the menu. Everything was hot and cooked fresh. When in Nashville and want something good, hot and with good music this is the place to go.

Feels kind of like a nice sports bar. Fortunately they weren’t too busy when we were there because our server was also hostess and bartender. She did a great job, though. I had the avocado BLT. Not a fan of fried green tomatoes but it came on the sandwich so I tried. It wasn’t bad but the sandwich was great when I took the tomato off the other half. The wife had a steak sandwich with truffled aoli and she really liked it. The beer was nice and cold but it was a bit of a bummer that they did not have an amber.

Came in late 1/2 hr before closing which I hate doing. But everyone was awesome the waiter even took time to talk about the deco to my son lots of celebrity pictures. Food was top notch

Live music on the patio, but we were more in the mood for cool and quiet inside after carousing on Broadway all afternoon. We had the fried green tomatoes for appetizer - nicely breaded and topped with feta cheese and balsamic vinegar. Pizzas were also very good, served on a crisp thin crust. The server could not have been nicer! Very nice visit - perfect way to relax after a fun and busy day.

If you haven't been to John A's recently; you haven't been. A remodeled interior and patio is now much more inviting but without losing the heart of John A's aesthetic and personality. New menu, good happy hour specials and a good mix of tourists and local regulars also makes it a good place to make new friends. The music on the patio wasn't too loud last time I was there. Calamari is fantastic unless you like tentacles. But you tentacle lovers will get over it after a few bites of these perfectly fried squid nuggets. The quality of the ingredients on the new menu really shows. Nothing fancy. Just simple food done really well. They claim to have the largest whiskey selection in Nashville. I don't know. I haven't counted. But if someone else wants to post a pic of the menu at 404 Kitchen in the Gulch...do it. UPDATE 6/4/22 So...the calamari is gone. No big deal but it also seems like the quality of the ingredients and the creativity/presentation of the dishes has suffered. Mind you, I'm not a vegetarian but I'll eat a salad once in a while. The salads are really lackluster now. Just a giant bowl of wilted lettuce without a lot of toppings. Look at the pictures below from 1 year ago. That's not what you are getting anymore. The blue cheese is more mayonnaise-y than creamy. Spicy chicken sandwich isn't very spicy. And Happy Hour isn't every day now. Only 3 days out of the week. When it comes to drinks, I was very impressed that the well whiskey was Blade and Bow. The down side is that it's not the least expensive option. Typically, the well is the most affordable so be aware of that when ordering. On the plus side, the pizza has a nice thin crispy crust perfect for sharing or if you are really hungry, dinner for one. The salmon is probably the best dish on the menu if you don't want chicken or burgers. The catfish nuggets are back so - yay! The chicken wings, the burgers and sandwiches are really great. I wanted to take away a star for the food but that doesn't seem fair. The classics are solid but you can get a good burger and fries anywhere. It was the "other" dishes that got me really excited about John A's and now they are gone. And the bar used to be a really good value but I understand that the state of the economy makes it more difficult for restaurants to make a profit. Do I recommend John A's? Yes. Definitely try it out. It's still a great spot for locals and tourists to mingle. The service is still friendly and fast. The food is still better than the other neighboring restaurants. *R.I.P. Went for happy hour, we were the first people in the restaurant/bar but by the time we left the place was 1/3 full. Brittany was awesome and made everyone feel welcome. Great staff! Great food! Great time!! Will definitely be back

This was my first time at John A's. Great Food and Atmosphere. The Service was AMAZING, especially considering their was only 1 waiteres. The place was somewhat busy ,her name is Jen and she didn't miss a thing,very friendly and charming. Highly recommend. And be sure to ask for Jen. You won't be disappointed.

Place had a great deal on Burgers and Bourbon on Wednesday. We brought 11 people for my 44th Birthday and the burgers (although $5 on the menu) were not on special. That's why we came!!! We then we're over charged for drinks not on our tab. Music was ok, 1 good singer and 1 not so much. Food was good, just check your tab and prices before paying

Most places are really busy. We didn't have to wait here. The musician was excellent. Outside porch or inside dining. I had chicken fingers, he had catfish. It was good.

Edit: while I still believe the food is pretty good. Although I did have a food issue on a special valintines dinner that was just Bad. I think you'll enjoy the food...its just not 5 stars for me anymore Did a little date night with the wife last night. I have been spoiled by steak. I have had the tomahawk Ribeye from Kayne Prime from down town. Until yesterday I would have said that was the best steak I've ever had in Nashville....the ribeye with truffle butter was a master piece of a steak. It was cooked beautifully med. The whipped mashed potatoes where perfect. Me and my wife couldn't get over how effing GOOD it was. I ALSO had the wagyu burger....and again I have had (or so i thought) alot of good burgers. It was cooked beautifully, juicy but not greasy. This burger is now what I will compare other burgers too. We also had the fried chicken livers and fried mac n cheese....both delicious. Wish i could have eaten more...but alas I needed to be able to walk. They also have a really well stocked bar, didnt drink this night. But if you like burbons whiskies etc. They got you Be seeing y'all soon Edit. Added a few photos of the brunch menu....try the breakfast pizza...I'll add more dinner pics next I go back. The fried ball are deep fried broccoli and cheese!

We enjoyed the Packed with Flavor Brunch on Sunday, served until 4 pm. Our food was cooked perfectly & served hot. The service was accommodating to our needs, for we ordered the brunch at 3:35 pm and it was no problem getting what we wanted from the menu!!! I ordered the Eggwhite Skinny Omelette & my husband ordered the Farro Risotto breakfast bowl ( refer to menu photo I posted with this review to see All this bowl choices offer) I LOVE ❤ the nostalgic atmosphere of John A's, for we have frequented this restaurant for approximately 8 years & now the menu items are better than ever!!! *Note they have added a covered outside area with live music (sorry I don't have pictures of this yet) & hours are changing so call before you go....that's it. Now, Go & See for Yourself!!! 😃👍👍👍👍👍

Fairly busy for a Tuesday evening. Good IPA on tap. Catfish and cornbread was delicious, although I could have happily chosen 3 or 4 things on the menu. Food is Southern home cooking style. Service friendly and prompt. Live music - unobtrusive but enjoyable. Don't let the outside put you off, the inside is much better. This is a proper slice of Nashville, not just for the tourists.

Great band on weekends, older, retired musicians who have played on tour with the stars! Get ready for a step back in time with the decor and music, c. 1985. Food is decent, love the potato skins! Good beer selection for the look of the place. Staff decent but I wish they liked their jobs more. UPDATE! good food, updated menu and local beer offerings, whole thing is more updated to younger crowd and a more sports bar theme, newer music, etc.

After visiting a chain restaurant with poor service we ventured into John As! Staff was more than friendly greeting and seating us! Food was delicious! Ordered hot chicken sandwich, truffle steak sandwich and a pasta dish, Drink where strong, everything was excellent!!! Will definitely visit again when in Nashville and recommend to friends!

The outside patio was pretty chill with good music, bourbon specials, $5 burger special, and wings! Inside they had the Buffalo Trace antique collection booties available for pours at the best prices in Nashville. This is a great place to grab dinner before the Opry!

Ok the app shrimp is great , the fried broccoli and cheese just ok . The pizza very good the staff . Lacey or was it Laney linsey ? and Dee fantastic . The quality of the staff is worth the stop . Couldn't try all the food but the drinks were great and the service was the best . Thank you Been back a couple times while here in Nashville . Have really enjoyed the staff and the atmosphere of the place .

My husband and I come here every time we visit Nashville. The service is so/so, but we love their hot chicken sandwich. It's super close to Opryland/Opry Mills and the interstate, so it's easy to find. We always come back!

My wife and I stopped here for a bite before a show at the Opry House. We happened to be there on a Wednesday, which is "$5 Burger Day", so we ordered burgers. They burgers were large, properly cooked, and quite tasty. I deducted one star because the live music coming from the patio/bar area was so loud it made it difficult to have a conversation, even though we were inside the building.

Went to establishment based off some reviews. We had the hot fried fish. A huge piece of fried fish and a thin piece a jalapeno cornbread. I split this and some fried pickles with my wife. All of it was good. We ended the meal with BlackBerry cobbler with homemade vanilla ice cream. I'm glad I found this location while visiting Nashville.

Have tried the Steaks, Pizza and Pasta and all were great. The staff has always been friendly. Keep in mind when you walk in that you can go either left of right depending on what kind of setting you want, there is a bar with live music and an area that is more quiet with a bar as well and some tvs with sports. So it's both a good place to go hang out but also for families. I recommend the Nashville Hot Shrimp appetizer which is really good and not too spicy but it does have a kick!

For my group of four we had quite a different amount of reactions. Half of us loved the food the other half felt it was ok. Personally I loved the ribs, they just fell right of the bone and we made perfectly. But you could tell that the fries were frozen and did not taste good.

My teenager and I went to $5 burger day. There is little flavor. It sounded great, but the $5 bourbon had better flavor. It’s better with coke. We are going Friday for the fish. Hopefully there is more flavor.

We had a group of around 10 people. The music and the vibe were really good. The drinks specials were tequila and margaritas on Cinco de Mayo. The furniture was good but needed a good wipedown from old, spilled beer that made it pretty sticky. The service was great, the bartenders were cute and friendly and my overall experience was fantastic!! I highly recommend this place for singles, couples or small groups.

We're from out town (shocker... isn't everyone?) The property is going through a major renovation and repair from the floods several years ago but they seem to be managing it very well. We wanted to watch the Stanley Cup on TV but the didn't have access to national channels like ABC /NBC/CBS. We have been on property for 2 days and this wasn't fixed. I considered sending them our $50 bar tab since we had to go to "JOHN A's".

Beautiful autumn night, the windows open to soft breeze. Solo vocal/guitar, mellow & talented. Enjoyed the JA burger & catfish. Best fries ever. Kitchen a little slow, but everything was fresh-prepared. Perfect break from other noisier venues. Server was attentive & delightful. Thanks!

They have to have the best Burgers and fries in Nashville. It is cooked to perfection and their sauce is amazing. They have a special on Wednesday nights where their burgers and fries are only $5! You can choose to sit either outside or inside. They have live music playing outside with a beach vibe with open air. Love the atmosphere. The staff are all awesome and very friendly.

While visiting Nashville this past week, we spotted this gem and it just looked like a cool place. We were right! The staff was super friendly and the food was outstanding! So much so, we had dinner there two nights in a row. It's a restaurant/bar with an attached separate bar, where they have live music. So, you can enjoy dinner with or without the live music, depending on your preference. A special "shout out" to Marion, who is the best waitress ever! In fact, the entire staff were great! We have already decided we will be coming back to Nashville and John A's will be at the top of our list, right along with The Grand Ole Opry!

Awesome! Place looks like a dive from the outside but they have quite an upscale menu with some very tasty entrees with very attractive presentations. I wanna try the truffle wagyu burger next time. Male waitress was a little slow considering we were 1 of 2 tables in the place but the food was worth it and we had met up with family so it helped pass the time.

Got there late. Caught the last two songs from the band. We had about 45 minutes to put our orders in. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. ***Online it says they're open until midnight, those are summer hours. They're open until 11pm the rest of the year. Had some difficulty getting a hold of the restaurant via phone. Called twice before showing up, to confirm they were open. No one took the call. Food was excellent. Had the Prime Rib, which they run specials on. A pretty tasty cut of meat. Overall a great experience once we got through the front door.

catfish was really good and EXTREMELY hot when it came out. i had to wait just to eat it (not complaining there at all). service was great and the place was almost empty. beans, slaw, salad, & cornbread were nothing that blew my mind, but they were decent and plenty edible. my waiter was friendly and not overly attentive, which i prefer when i go out. brought the bill quickly and i was on my way!

We stopped here for brunch (they also have a full menu) while waiting for our daughter to finish classes at Opryland Convention Center and boy am I glad we did. Sweetest servers, delicious food (the white BBQ sauce is a must) and local live music. Would definitely stop here again!!!!!

I visited this restaurant with the lady and her family on a Friday night. The music was great and the service was friendly albeit slow. We ordered the sirloin (which was surprisingly tasty), the wings, and a burger. All the food was great but we had to wait a long time until it came to our table. I certainly recommend this place if you're looking for a laid back environment with music.

First off, our server Christian was amazing! Very kind and made sure we were taken care of! The food was delicious! I had the grilled chicken salad with bacon, so worth it! Plus my husband finally found catfish that is a hit! Decent prices, good sides, desserts, and large variety of drinks too!

I think the food was good and reasonably priced. The real purpose of my review was the music ! Pam Miller and the Cumberland trio were fantastic. Pam has a such a great voice. When she preforms a song it's like the original. She doesn't just sing a somg, her heart and passion are very evident. I hope she is there the next time we visit !!

The food was really good. I would've given another star BUT I got very dirty lettuce in a salad. The restaurant said that it was the fault of the farm that sent it? Either way it was disgusting how dirty that lettuce was. The staff was friendly

My husband and I stopped in for lunch. It was between lunch and dinner so it wasn't crowded at all. My husband had the chicken stir fry and I had the salmon with vegetables and wild rice. Both entrees were excellent and cooked perfect. The waitress was very friendly and attentive.

This was a most memorable, warm fuzzy place, starting with Kayla, who was a dynamite server. The atmosphere is so relaxing and kick back with all sorts of sports memorabilia. I tried Catfish with cornbread and my husband had bbq wings with good ole beer. Will come back at 7:00 for some tunes.

Our chicken club sandwiches were seriously YUMMY! Large breasts, moist, perfectly seasoned AND with generous bacon smothered on top of melted cheese on a large tasty bun. Crisp onion rings as our side item for about 10 bucks! We were so busy looking at the nostalgic music memorabilia all throughout the restaurant. A kind of musical history lesson to test your memory. The food came out quickly. We left full and happy and will certainly go back for another excellent experience.

Very good. Had the surf and turf and was one of best meals I've had here while visiting. Ribs were excellent as well as fish. Only downfall for me personally and this seems to be a recurring theme in Nashville..no fried okra.

A great lunch place. The place was deserted for a rainy Tuesday afternoon. That didn't seem to bother the waitresses or the cook. I had the prime rib sandwich and John A's potatoes. I chose not to have the peppers. I was very impressed. I will definitely keep them in mind for future opportunities.

Great Food and Atmosphere. I got the Spicy Catfish and their advertising of "The best catfish in Nashville" didn't disappoint! My server Jessica was awesome too. She had a killer smile! Oh yeah and dont leave without getting the fried moonpie for dessert. Will definitely be going back.

My kind of place. We have drive past this place as we stay in the area alot. Stopped in and was glad we did. Very good bar food aling with a few cocktails, great server, so nice and happy. Wife had dubbed baked potato along with vegetables fried up. I had the ranches burger, omg was it great. Hamburger, roast beef, ham bacon, hint of a-1 sause. The flavors rocked, had to take half home for the next morning.

Definitely add the fried okra as a side. And top it off with some kick butt moonshine cocktails. Server was super sweet. And of course some great live music to boot.

It's available tiny unassuming place but totally worth the visit. Live music EVERY night. I had a Bavarian pretzel as the appetizer,. It was huge. I actually brought half home. I had the bbq pulled chicken for dinner. The chicken was super tender and moist and the sauce was on the side so it wasn't drowning in it. Total SCORE!! And then a hot brownie sundae for dessert. Can you say YUMMY?!

This is a local place that is frequented by Music City stars of the past. Think, George Jones, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard... a lot of country music personalities and musicians that worked with these acts of past play music, sing, and eat here. I don't know John A's story, but I think he was the original proprietor of the Nashville Palace... at any rate, without knowing the whole story... there is a lot of history here. The food is ok. The music is old school country, think Grand Ole Opry old school. If you want a place in the Opryland area that serves decent food, John A's is a place where you can get decent food, a drink, listen to music and have a conversation and hear the conversation. It isn't too crowded., John A's is a good place to go...
