Reviews of BernBaum's
James Anderson, CFRE
Truly exceptional food! The atmosphere is basically a café or coffee shop but the food is incredible and makes up for sparse ambience. Be sure to try a knish, Myron‘s chicken matzo ball soup and the Nordic lamb meatloaf. All are exceptional. I must admit the matzo-breaded chicken schnitzel was a little dry. It was two slices that were breaded. If it had been one thicker slice, I think it would’ve been much juicier and more tender.

Classical downtown Fargo. Unique restaurant smaller menu but dishes are good. Brisket sandwich is solid and the sauerkraut was acidic but not over powering. My wife enjoyed her plate of food she had the brisket latke. A few gluten free items on the menu. The soup is phenomenal reminded me of solid chicken noodle soup. Definitely recommend stopping by and having some food.

BernBaum's is a classy cafe in historic downtown Fargo, North Dakota. Great selection of high quality tea and good coffee. The quiche was excellent; the blintzes were good. The people of Fargo are what makes this northern tundra a warmer place; servers as well as customers were friendly and conversational.
Michael Ritland
Fun and delicious downtown eatery in Fargo. Menu choices you don't see everywhere and yet plenty of options for all tastes. I didn't try it but have it on good authority the zucchini chocolate cake is amazing
Amanda Allen
An excellent breakfast! Bagel sandwich, blintzes, pie and coffee / cappuccinos were superb. Customer service was exceptional - welcoming, helpful, and prompt. Can’t wait to enjoy another meal at BernBaum’s!

What a brilliant array of options, meat, lox, vegetarian, vegan, and more. Bagels can come seeded or plain. The pastries and cookies are heavenly. Lots of room for dine-in. Order first, then go hunker down (with a fun place marker) at a table and await the greatness. Beer is available. Great coffee and tea options. Kombucha varieties were also splendid.

This place has such cute and funky decor, and we loved our breakfast bagels! The homemade pickles were a tasty touch. Good vibes for a place to hang out and do work in, too, plus good quality bottomless coffee.
Megan Belmore
The food is amazing, service is excellent, and the prices are fantastic.
The Shakshuka is my absolute must-have brunch, and I am in love with the hummus bagel sandwich.
But seriously, I got breakfast, lunch, a charcuterie box, an extra baguette, two desserts, and coffee for under $50. How can you pass that up?
(Also, the table markers instead of numbers are adorable!! My favorite was the Pug-Bug I got one time. This time around, I had the Holiday Dino.)
Thomas Overmiller
First of all, I will acknowledge that the food here is outstanding. Flavorful, savory, interesting options. Definitely worthwhile! Waiting in line to order, though, took forever. At least 20-25 mins. Another 20-30 mins. then for the food to be served. Coffee is self serve, but no one told me that until I had waited for a server to come to our table 20+ minutes after I ordered. Perhaps the normally provide better service. I hope so, because the food is fantastic.

100% every time- from the bagels to their daily knish and vegan options. I also love their take on a black & white — so addicting
Shannon Schultz
Amazingly delicious food! The lox, bagels, and matzo ball soup were ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️. Friendly faces and kind servers make it a great meal.
Heidi Tesfaye
Delicious! Came on a Sunday about 11am and had about a 25 minute wait for food, but it was worth the wait! The lox bagel and the Romanian Sausage and egg my husband got were both fantastic! The coffee was more of a 4/5 but the whole experience made up for it!
Lori Bartho
I would drive the 3+ hours from the twin cities just to have the breakfast again. We had both the bacon and egg and sausage and egg sandwiches. Loved the pickles so much, we picked up 3 jars. Also the mustard was incredible. You should sell that as well!! The staff was nice enough to sell us some in a cream cheese container.
Rachel F
We got the Israeli hot lamb sandwich, bacon egg and cheese bagel, latkes and lox, and matzo ball soup. I make matzo ball soup regularly at home, and this was so delicious! The sandwich was delicious, but the latke and lox plate was the favorite.
Will R
Everything is clearly made from scratch and their dishes combine flavors across multiple cuisines. 6 out of 5 stars
Filecia Wietzema
Absolutely love this place! Amazing food and atmosphere! Best place for breakfast or lunch downtown Fargo! I am a new regular!
Gabe Gust
Bernbaums is a treasure, I love it. Everything there is worth every penny.
Photos are the Islandic bagel plate with Loks and the seasoned bagel.

A must if you visit Fargo! Was recommended by a local and did not disappoint. I got The chicken schnitzel sandwich. Served on a fresh, light, challah bun with Mayo, kraut tzatziki, their homemade sliced pickles with a side of potato salad and a delicious lingonberry sauce. The schnitzel was perfectly prepared, tender and flavorful. The bun was so soft and fresh and everything just melted in my mouth. Washed it down with one of their ciders! Perfection! I’m sure everything else on the menu is just as good. Next time I’m in Fargo, I will definitely be trying some of their other dishes⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

First time here, and I was passing through and wanted to try a good sandwich place and had heard about this place. While I was getting gas, I placed an online order. When I arrived, I went up to the counter that said, "Pick Up Orders." I stood there for a good ten minutes while multiple people looked and me and no one came up to where I was. Finally, someone came to that area of the counter and asked what I needed, and I told them I had a pick-up order. And they pointed to the table at the front door where a bunch of orders sat. I got the lox sandwich, and maybe I just don't like lox but I wasn't a fan of this sandwich.

Stopped by for a hot cocoa and toasted bagel on my walk. The deli ambiance makes Bernbaums a warm and welcome oasis from the chill. Definitely the best bagel I've had in years!
Calli Adamson Bakken
Everything Bernbaum's makes is gold. Should definitely be a stop for anyone visiting Fargo. There was even a New York Times article that said these bagels are as good, if not better, than NYC. My go to is the matzo ball soup but you'll be happy with anything you get.
Kyle Ducan
I had heard a review on how wonderful their lamb was, so was anxious to give it a try. There were 6 of us visiting the restaurant, each ordering different things. EVERYTHING was delicious, well made, flavorful and worth every penny. Where else can you get authentic Jewish-style food that's homemade and not heat-n-eat? The chicken matzo ball soup is fantastic as are the latkes. Both lamb sandwiches were fantastic. Desserts were delicious! The cheesecake included a wonderful pepita brittle. We were all totally amazed at the quality of food offered here and HIGHLY RECOMMEND! We'll be return and be regulars.
Linda Trujano
So glad we got to try this gem during our day trip to Fargo! My husband and I split many of the small plates and also tried the savory porridge. We loved all of them and will definitely go back when we are in Fargo!
Andrew
Really like their food and appreciate the variety of vegan options with whole foods and whole flavors with filling porridges and sandwiches. You won't be disappointed. We really appreciate it. Would be great to see a vegan protein such as tempeh, which when marinated also makes for a killer Reuben. Bright, open cafe. Some of the items are way too salty. Their lox is top notch. Had the soup special, clear broth with Brussels and other veggies fantastic. Wish I got more as most was stolen by a family member.
Spencer Field
Excise me... Vegan Flox has no right to taste this good. Shaved Smoked carrots 🥕 are going on my kitchen to do list. Clearly I need more Dill and citrus Tahini in my life. And a plastic toy as a table marker.... Hello that’s great! …
Audrey Dawn
I adore this restraunt. Everything about it is perfect. I still remember the first time I came in. I thought it was the coolest place. Having gone there monthly for years, it feels and tastes like home.
David Juarez
This was my second time trying BernBaum's. The first time I had it I was pretty disappointed, I heard great things and the food didn't quite meet those expectations. However, my friend convinced me to give it another chance so I did, and am I glad I listened. The sandwich that I had today was beyond what I expected. I got the Israeli Lamb which was hearty, full of flavor and the vegetables gave it a nice freshness. The sandwich was a bit messy and kind of fell apart in my hands, but it was worth it. Everyone there was very friendly and the cozy shop was abuzz. Which was great for the place, but it made things a little cramped for the guests. It was a little tricky maneuvering through the chairs and tables, but overall it was a great place to have lunch.
Matthew Simmons
I never give 5 star ratings- heck, most places just don’t earn it. BernBaums did more than earn it, they provided quality food and quality prices. Do yourself a favor, go here.
Todd B. (The Food and Drink Guy)
Wonderful place to visit for a relaxing Saturday morning. Delicious Scandinavian / Jewish food options (see pictures) as well as a nice selection of sweets. I ordered the latke + lox (fried potato and salmon) and my wife ordered the Romanian sausage + egg. We really enjoyed both of them, however be aware that the latke + lox doesn't come with any bread so you might want to consider ordering a bagel on the side to really enjoy all of the goodies on the plate. If you've read any of my posts, you know that I love for dessert / sweets after the meal. The Swedish Almond Cake was very dense and most, with slivered almonds - some of the best I can remember tasting. This was the first time that I've tried Rugelach (fig almond) - reminded me a little of baklava, but not so over-bearing on the sweet side. I highly recommend both!
Late add: Couldn't leave without trying the Orange Roll (tried it at a party and that is what drew us here in the first place). It was recommended to have it warmed first and that made it even more delicious!
Jenna Alvarez
Everything we ordered was delicious and the customer service was wonderful and so friendly! Chicken matzo soup tastes like your grandmothers soup, delicious and unique flavors of cream cheese for the delicious bagels (my kids loved the lingonberry and fig), and the hot sandwiches (brisket and pastrami) were full of flavor and on delicious house-made bread. We can’t wait to go back to try more of the menu!
Linda Anderson
Fabulous food that you don’t find anywhere else in Fargo. We had the egg bake of the day, and scrambled eggs and lox, both of which were elegantly prepared and tasted as good as they looked.
Eric M
Do not expect traditional jewish deli style eggs. Instead it is an egg custard that is baked possibly with over done cheese.
Vegan reuben was nice however!
Trina Beninati
EVERYTHING was delicious, well made, flavorful and worth every penny. Where else can you get authentic Jewish-style food that's homemade and not heat-n-eat? The chicken matzo ball soup is fantastic as are the latkes. Both lamb sandwiches were fantastic. Desserts were delicious! The cheesecake included a wonderful pepita brittle. We were all totally amazed at the quality of food offered here and HIGHLY RECOMMEND! We'll be return and be regulars.

Stopped for breakfast this morning and was pleasantly surprised by both the meal & the presentation. The egg on bagel sandwich was just the right amount of food & the price was beyond reasonable. Definitely will stop again next time I'm in town.
Megan Bramble
The Schnitzel sandwich is delicious! We didn’t know what to expect because we’d never really heard of any of it but it was so yummy. Very unique food & the workers were great & knowledgeable.
Antonia Trovato
I’m from Saint Paul, home to a wide variety of wonderful cuisines. We stopped here on our drive back from visiting family and were positively blown away. It’s rare for me to confidently say a restaurant experience was 10/10 but this is it. We tried 4 different menu items and every one was exceptional and I’m leaving feeling literally joyful. Wish we had one closer to home!
Melvin Frank
Wonderful bakery, coffee, breakfast, quick snacks and quality galore. Perhaps the best food presentations in all of Fargo.
Stumbeanos fresh roasted coffee. Today it was Heavy Meadow. Perfect.
malik elizee
Food was great! The daily greens salad was noticeably fresh. The lox bagel was yummy as well. This is a great spot for a light, refreshing meal.
Stefan Axel Bouts
got a great bagel sandwich, but felt compelled to make it known that when you order an orange juice, you'll get Sunny D - that's like ordering a lemonade and getting mountain dew. otherwise, great spot.
Aaron
Incredibly yummy and thoughtful vegan options, holy smokes. Kudos to the owner for such an inclusive menu. The vegan options are GREAT and filling. Yum.
Sam Goodman
brisket was solid, sauce was solid. Really enjoyed the savory porridge. Smaller portion sizes but the porridge hits the spot.
Wendy Hammond
I enjoyed the food here because it was different. I had a bagel with pickled red onion, and a shaved sweet pickle substance, and some green round stuff on it. There was cream cheese. I appreciated the different tastes combined and the fact that I didn't recognize or know what some of it was at it tasted good. It was rather expensive, but I was willing to pay for something tasty and different. The marker for food we ordered was a toy truck. There were toy 1950s ovens on the wall for decor. The expense marked it down in rating for me but ot was the average expensive of similar restaurants in the area.
Kord Maurer (PizzaPadawan)
I'm absolutely in love with this place. The staff is so warm and welcoming. I know they have a huge lunch menu, but I still get a plain bagel, toasted, with fig cream cheese and a coffee every time. It's simple, but it's not that spendy, and it's one of the best tasting things in Fargo. I can sit in the window seat for hours, writing or drawing and listening to the calm hum of the coolers, watching the sun blanket the buildings across the street. It's such a serene place for me. I recommend it to everyone!
Erica Reed
Delightful atmosphere, quick and attentive service, and great food. Healthy and filling. Maybe the best frittata I’ve ever had.
Tony Dunn
One of my Fargo favs and quite honestly the last type of eatery you’d expect to find here! The eclectic atmosphere is one of a kind in this town! The potato latke is the perfect amount of crispness. You won’t be disappointed.
Steve Moses
Very fun to visit with a good cup of coffee and a toasted bagel. Loved the atmosphere and the great staff. Take time to look around, full of unique and interesting items all around you.
Colum Sandford
Traditional jewish deli food with a nordic spin is a match seemingly made in heaven. Which is also the adjective I would use to describe this restaurant.
Annie Wood
Love the food! A fun twist on the fusion of Jewish and Scandinavian foods. Plus, the funky atmosphere makes the experience complete. I can't rave enough about Andrea and the team, they are so great!
Daniel Sampson
Delicious. The chefs really put there personality into their work. They take simple delicatessen fare and add their sparkle.
Ali Long
This is the best restaurant in all of Fargo. Exceptional food every time!
Del Rae Williams
Everything I have tried at Bernbaum's is tasty and fresh. My current go-to is their egg of the day. Chef Andrea is spectacular.
Molly Brouillard
Wonderful
I had the egg salad bagel and it was filled with goodness. served cold and garnished with everything a person would want, a bit messy, but it was great! I also got a generously cut slice of Banana cream pie my only negative was the crust seemed hard to cut(with a plastic fork) but it was flaky and complemented the pie well. I always recommend people go here, but rarely get to eat here myself, so it was a Treat to say the least, I will continue to recommend. 5 stars hands down.
TerryLisa Moore
Visiting Fargo & lucked into stopping here for breakfast. Yum! Friends had lox’s, latkes, capers , & crème which they loved & we had the Romanian sausage, egg, bagel plate & it was terrific! As we had a long drive we got cold sandwiches to go (brisket& chicken walnut salad) for dinner. Of course, they too were splendid!
Gia Rassier
Bernbaum's is an awesome addition to the downtown Fargo restaurant scene. Whether you're stopping in for a quick lunch or grabbing something to-go, you won't be disappointed with the funky ambiance and delicious food. (Don't miss the great selection of vegan + gluten-free options!)
The only downside is it can get a bit crowded, though that does fit with the quaint feel of the place. Win-win-win: eating outside + people-watching.
Most important takeaway: these homemade bagels are absolutely heavenly. Go, eat, repeat.
Spoon Time
The service was great, and the food seemed genuine and very flavorful. I didn’t personally like all the cabbage on the sandwiches, but it tasted good. They have some pastries as well, which are small, but not bad.
Twylla Conner
Yes, it's true. This was our first time eating in Bernbaums. Now it's our new spot for 'date brunch' - my goodness, they have really truly good food. EVERYTHING.
Volunteer Lyle
We were on our way through Fargo and were looking some place for lunch and did some googling to see where we might go. We saw some excellent reviews on this place and decided to try this place, even though it was a fair way off Hwy 94.
Well the visit was more worth way more than the drive from 94. The food was homemade, it had lots different tastes and all was delicious. We were surprised by the reasonable prices for such delicious food.
We now have a new place to eat on our treks to and from Saint Paul, MN from Regina,SK.
K Bosch
Food was wonderful the service great. My family were gathering for conversation and good food. Fun
Pat Simmons
Best bagel and Jewish "deli" food spot in Fargo-Moorhead. Amazing staff, all the food is cooked by 3 people. Get the lamb meatloaf sandwich with lingonberries and pickled onion. It will blow your mind!! Be patient the food takes a bit but it is totally worth it. If you like good eggs than you are in the right spot. Burnbaums eggs are so light are and fluffy.
Emily Miron
The Jewish Nordic fusion is such an interesting and fantastic combination. You have to try the Nordic Lamb sandwich with lingonberries! And the Matzo ball soup for a traditional Jewish staple food.
The service was exceptional as the workers really love where they work and so helpful in offering suggestions and answering questions.
Jennifer Wright
Amazing food! Reasonable prices and very great staff. The food was so good we didn't even have time to take a picture. The service was spot on from the cashier, to coffee barista, to wait assistance bussing our table we will definitely be back. Food was the best breakfast I've had in awhile, so worth the wait and for how busy it was we only waited 20 mins for food. The vibe is so amazing there! Must go🥰
Sophia D
Very busy on the weekends, only a few options for gluten free
Julie Markfort
Amazing fresh authentic bagels! Delicious food, mid modern pieces/gems for sale, and friendly staff. I will definitely be heading back soon!
Becky Boyle Jones
One of the best breakfast and lunch locations in the FM area. Unique food, quirky decor and great service
james
This is a local Deli that has a great reputation. We were greeted promptly buy a friendly server. It is a neat atmosphere with old kitchen toys on the walls. What is also need is they give you a plastic figure when you place your order to put on your table to identify instead of the typical plastic triangle with a number on it. I got a bacon egg and cheese bagel which I thought was okay but not great. It has some white sauce which I think was mayonnaise on it but my wife thought was melted goat cheese. I did not care for that. She had a bagel with salmon that she said was very good. Others in the party had other dishes that they raved about. For example my son has cravings for their lamb sandwich. The biggest hit was the sweet. I had a coconut macaroon drizzled in chocolate which was delicious. They are known for their bread pudding which comes as a huge portion size. A slice of apple pie seems to be about a quarter of a pie. If you have a sweet tooth this is your place.
Anika Kleingartner
OK, let's just say anytime I'm in Fargo, we try to eat here as often as we can. Like, every day, multiple times, etc.
It was my first time and damn Gina, everything was perfect. Just, go. You will be so happy.
I'm so sorry for not taking pictures, but no evidence is proof of deliciousness perhaps?
Karen Guthmueller
Great menu..you need to make more bread pudding..pleasant staff
Lisa Romano
I don't know how I'd lived so long in Fargo without coming here, that was a grave error. These might be the best bagels in the US. If you're looking for a breakfast in Fargo, this is definitely a place you should eat at.
Brad B
Had the Romanian Sausage and Egg on a Saturday afternoon. Awesome. My only complaint was it was busy but that's because they are good and worth the wait
Emily Swedberg
This is seriously one of my favorite places to grab lunch in town, if not the best! Andrea makes such wonderful food. Her standard of quality is superb and her use of seasonings is so unique and fabulous. I usually rotate between a fresh bagel made from scratch in house with the best hummus I've ever had, to a cup of soup and a salad made with fresh, local greens. Andrea is always so friendly and the service is great. Also, the decor is uniquely nostalgic, as Bernbaum's shares a space with the vintage store, Mid Mod Madhaus. This is my go-to for lunch, either with friends or by myself. A Fargo foodie must!
LadyKing Cole
Fabulous food.......absolutely one of the best places in Fargo.
Update: still one of the best places in Fargo. From local coffee to events featuring local produce- plus great service and a fun funky vintage yet relaxed atmosphere best stop in Fargo.
Aleksei Ashland
I adore this place from the bottom of my heart. Great food, great staff, amazing atmosphere.
J.D. Beene
Breakfast doesn't get ANY better! This is the place to go if you're tired of the usual IHOP style breakfast meals that lack creativity and real flavor. A must when visiting downtown Fargo.
Tony Christensen
The food was great, as was the service. I only wish it wasn't quite so tightly packed in there, tables were way too close for my liking, definitely not social distancing in there. But I would for sure go again, just probably not for dine in unless it was at a slow time when less people were there.
Megan Ruen
I had the Lox+eggs with a seeded bagel. It was so good and a great portion. The staff was amazing, helpful and friendly. The atmosphere was busy but not chaotic. I'll definitely be going back.
Lea Pea
Most amazing chef in Fargo, not because of fancy recipes, albeit they are fresh and delIcious and unique, and not because of pomp and status, because of hard work and blood sweat and tears, she has made her way through the ranks of cooks unscathed, to create a restaurant that she could focus on and really express her food story. the Bagels are so moist and chewy no need to toast them, and the salads are fresh and healthy, and also large. Go to bernbaums if you want a one of a kind food experience, from a chef who should be in the cooking hall of fame! Update 12/08/2022 it is even better than before and bigger so they can serve more friendly faces.
Gwanny Tjoa
Nice Jewish deli. Right downtown and ample space. Servic was decent
Sherri Stokes
Had the savory porridge the daily egg bake and the chicken walnut salad sandwich. Everything was wonderful wonderful! We will definitely eat here again!
Carly
Best food around! The bagels, eggs, lox, baked goods, oh my! I can't get enough of their herb cream cheese and their sweet porridge. The staff is always kind, and the interior is super cute and campy. If you're eating sit-down, I would order the shakshuka, egg bake, or trout melt. If you're eating takeout, I would order the sweet porridge or any bagel plate. If doing takeout, I would stay away from the meat and cheese plate - it's in a small container and the pickles and onions get everything wet. Superior service and food <3
Mariette Koop
The best breakfast you will ever have. I would travel the 4 hours just for their breakfast bagel😍
Sophie
Without a single doubt, BernBaum's is one of my favorite restaurants of all time and by FAR the best restaurant in Fargo. I have never eaten a bad or unimpressive meal, I have tried (and loved!) food I never thought I would enjoy or normally consider trying, the staff is always kind and welcoming, and the atmosphere in itself is cozy and warm. There is food for any taste palette AND majority of produce is locally sourced. If you want a restaurant where you can leave feeling satisfied without feeling like garbage, BernBaum's is the place for you.
Brett Langley
Ordered from here for a delivery to the Hospital. I accidentally sent them to the wrong hospital.
I tried to get it to the right one but it was outside of their range and they needed their drive back. Totally understandable. I asked them to donate the meal to someone and they said not worry, and said they would void my order.
That's great customer service to me. Thanks a ton, I'll be stopping in next time I'm in Fargo.
Jaci McCaskell Kulish
I always get the Iceland bagel plate with a seeded bagel and blintzes and it never disappoints. The rest of the food looks amazing too (latke with brisket is delicious). You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu.
Dominic Angelo
There's a reason this place won a James Beard. The bacon and egg sandwich was outstanding, but it was really the latke and blintz that stole the show. Very good coffee too. Stylish, authentic, and very fresh. Can't recommend enough. Very reasonably priced too.
cheyenne larson
The one thing the twin cities doesn’t have is a great bagel place. Very jealous that it’s all the way over here! Got a bacon egg and cheese bagel with the dill horseradish cream cheese and it was outstanding. Wait time was a bit long because of how busy they were but it was worth it!
Natasha Georgia
Amazingly delicious food. Their Vegan Reuben is by far the best hot vegetarian sandwich I’ve ever had. Their Potato Knish with Horseradish Sour Cream & Pickled Onions was to die for & their Seeded Bagels are delicious - so nice and chewy.
I wish they were located in the Twin Cities, I’m tempted to drive from Minneapolis to Fargo just to eat lunch here again.
Andrew Melo
Bernbaums is by far my favorite restaurant always super consistent.
Joe “Tabasco Joe”
Easily one of the best sandwiches I've ever had hands down. I got the Nordic lamb and within the hour came back and ordered two more. The sandwich was so good in fact, I have since devoted my life to science.
If the world population could just experience one tenth of one bite, surely there would be peace on earth.
Michael C Kruempel
I would give 6 stars if I could. It is a local treasure. Their savory porridge is unreal. The labneh and roasted veggies in it are amazing. Their egg bake is unbelievable, the consistency is like jello and it's so rich. The knishes are so satisfying. Their lamb meatloaf is unreal. Their chicken matzo ball soup is dreamy. Their tabbouleh salad is unconventional but amazing, I even crave it for breakfast often. It has a lot less parsley and more bulgar wheat then conventional tabbouleh but I think it's the way tabbouleh should be. Their potato salad is the best I've had and I grew up loving my mom's potato salad ( sorry mom). My wife and I figured out a clone recipe of their potato salad and it's now our go to (diced pickles and roasted caraway seed is the secret). Their desserts and baked goods are the best in town except for maybe Nichol's. Every time we order my wife and I can't believe how good it is even though we get it at least twice a month, it's just crazy how wonderful it is every time.
Just know that the food is very salty and oily but it's so brimming with flavor it never seems too salty or oily. Hands down my favorite restaurant in Fargo.
Lindsey Lee
The food and people here are phenomenal. Come for the bagels stay for the atmosphere!
Barret Barlow
What a gem to find on our multiple state road trip. They hit the spot we like we were sitting in a New York breakfast spot.
tammy cooper
BernBaums is the top of the line for great food and customer service. Andrea, the owner takes great pride in her food and customer service. It is by far the best restaurant in Fargo.
On my visits to BernBaums my go to favorite is the egg bake and coffee. I always purchase a meal and dessert to take out to have later. You will not be disappointed.
You can never go wrong with latkes and lox. If you love desserts try the bread pudding, cookies or one the other sweets. I must say it is tasty, because of the high quality ingredients.
Thank you Andrea.
Leah Dalton
If you like your food to taste fresh and delicious (and if you're looking at Google Reviews, I'm guessing you do), then I would highly recommend this place. I LOVE LOVE LOVE their egg bake and I always get a full order of their slaw. There's nothing wrong with their side size, I just love the greens and dressing so much I need it all. The leafy goodness that comes with the egg bake is incredible too; it has like and oil and vinegar type vinaigrette that's to die for. Also, if you know what a knish is, you're in for a treat.
Kat King
So good! Their vegan Ruben is fantastic. Beets, carrots, cabbage on rye that's grilled. Fabulous. And homemade rugalach! I hear their bagel chips are excellent, too. They were busy but warned us it could be 30 mins. We were cool with that. Check out the curved booth at front. Rescued from bowling alley, maybe. Can't wait to go back and try the blintzes.
Markie Mitchell
Great breakfast spot! Food was really good.
Michael Bresnahan
Outstanding Sandwiches and Bagel Chips! Stopped here to get food to go and wow it was worth the visit! All 3 of us ordered a different sandwich. The brisket, and both types of lamb along with a bag of bagel chips. All were outstanding! will be back!
Von Harris
Enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Bagels were fresh and delicious
Benjamin Norling
Delicious food. Lamb meatloaf, motza ball soup, lox, or egg cheese and bacon on focaccia - loved everything I've tried. Welcoming environment, you can tell Bernbaum's is more mom-and-pop than the chains you'll find in Fargo. Has vegetarian and vegan options.
Highly recommended.
Hanna Baker
The food was fantastic. We walked out the door and were immediately trying to figure out when we could return. The horseradish caraway potato salad was the best potato salad we've ever had, and the Nordic Lamb sandwich was drool worthy.

What a great hidden gem in downtown. Food and service is all excellent.
Anthony Sisson
Saturday 9/11/21 I am one of the 5 delivery order people. Wow. Thank you. What a meal you put together for us. Jasmine walked my friend through making sure we experienced Bernbaum's in all it's glory. With the wonderful customer service and fantastic food, you've made at least (hopefully more to come) 5 more patrons for life. My particular favorite was the Matzo Ball Soup and the Brisket sandwich (putting the house made pickles on it enhanced it even further!). The Latke with mustard and apples was also great. And I won't forget about the Blintzes for dessert!

BernBaum’s might be the best deli I have ever been to. I got the meddeli bagel plate and the hummus and labrae were AMAZING!! My brother got the Nordic sandwich which he gets everytime he’s in town because he loves it so much. As a party we split the apple pie, bread pudding, and chocolate coconut macaroon. The bread pudding was killer and a fan fav. The macaroon was my second fav but others enjoyed the apple pie as much. Definitely recommend and hope I get a chance to come back!
Krissy Hanken
The chicken matzo ball soup is fantastic as are the latkes. Both lamb sandwiches were fantastic. Desserts were delicious! The cheesecake included a wonderful pepita brittle. We were all totally amazed at the quality of food offered here and HIGHLY RECOMMEND! We'll be return and be regulars.
Miklos Bona
Relaxed. Affordable. Tasty. Recommended for breakfast.
Janine Kirchmeier
Cute spot for breakfast! Came here on my birthday for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised with their amazing coffee and sandwiches. I find it hard to find a place that can do food and coffee without sacrificing the quality of either or. We will definitely be back.
Colton Zabel
Very good! This restaurant brings a different, and well-needed, flavor to Fargo. There was a line out of the door, and once we got our food, we understood why. The food is fairly priced and absolutely delicious! I love the fact that they have coffee bar in the restaurant! There’s also a little market, if you want to buy a few things. This place is awesome! 10/10

I think they are really worth a try! When I first visited they were a much smaller store and I thought their bagels and soup were a bit on the bland side. Now that I have ordered at their newer location, I am very impressed! The Romanian, chicken salad, and schnitzel sandwiches are among my favs. The side of pickles and salad with tangy mustard dressing is such a pleasure to my taste buds. And the crepes with lingonberry sauce is delicious! Ordering for pick up is easy, they leave your bag of food on a side table and you just pick it up. My order has been right every time. I think it was a great move for them to open up a bigger store and their chefs and customer service are top notch!
Jocasta Hanson
Really impressed! Best soup and sandwich lunch I’ve had in a very long time. I’ll be thinking of this lunch for awhile. Wish there was one in Denver. 💛 …
Kiera Raisanen
Ordered a little bit of everything this morning. I got the latke+brisket, potato knish, shakshuka focaccia, blintz and a chia latte. Everything looked and tasted incredible. I would have paid twice as much for what I ordered. Customer service was wonderful as well. I accidentally ordered my shakshuka focaccia without bread and someone called to double check about it before making the order. I walked over with my dog and they brought my food out to the door for me.
Sandra Vigen
Amazing food, atmosphere & service! My picture doesn't do the taste of it justice! The bagel is packed full of flavor, chewy, and not dry or overly large. Tender & moist! I ordered the bacon, egg + bacon and cheese. It has bacon maple schmear, sweet pickles & mustard. Nothing over dominated the other flavors! You'd think you were in NY with something like this! Told about it through my hair dresser & so glad I tried. I'll be back! Again, and again!
LOVE it!
Travis Guntermann
A wonderful place to have a bite to eat!
Ben Althoff
My order was the Nordic Lamb.
The pickle was delicious. Pretty good for a pickle.
The Nordic Lamb sandwich should be put up for awards, but that wouldn't be fair to any other sandwich submitted against it.
It is like the test in college that gets thrown out when setting the curve because it was a perfect score when all the rest of the tests were around 50%.
Any sandwich competition with this sandwich involved is just a competition for silver.
Marn Odden
Wonderful unique and creative selections on menu. Prepared with fresh ingredients and plated beautifully.
Benjamin Jacobs
Food is amazing, and reasonably priced. I love their daily special egg dishes, and salad dressings on the greens are awesome. They also serve fantastic coffee. Service is friendly, and the food is out quickly. One of my favorite places in town.
Jamie Ottmar
After seeing a glowing review of the Nordic Lamb sandwich from fellow Local Guide Ben Althoff, I decided I had to give Bernbaum's a try. Boy did they deliver! Actually no, we did a pickup order.. but the fact remains!
I don't really like lamb, and I don't really care for meatloaf.... but lamb meatloaf? On that amazing bread?? With that tasty sauce??? Amazing stuff. I highly recommend it.
I didn't get a pickle with my meal unfortunately, so I cant speak to that. Maybe next time. I also tried the black and white cookie. Very unique!
10/10 would bernbaum again.
James Bergman
This place is a gem. I just ordered a quick espresso this time, but the food is always wonderful. The chicken skin BLT and the meatloaf sandwich are both absolutely fantastic. If you are in Fargo, please go to BernBaum's. You will not be disappointed.
Darin Tysdal
If we stayed here longer, we'd try more food! Featured on "Man vs Food".
James North
Can't believe how good this is. My brother, myself, and my girlfriend went here for lunch. Afterward, my brother and I literally talked about how good the Nordic meatloaf sandwich was for an hour. This culminated with me dropping him off so he could grab 3 more for us to eat tomorrow. It's that good.
Dustin Korynta
Man... I love the atmosphere of this place. The food was great. I had a smoked salmon sandwich and my wife had the snitzel. Go early otherwise you may not be able to find a seat inside during lunch.
Andrew Oshrin
The best matzo ball soup I’ve ever had. The brisket sandwich was delicious as well.
Hannah Olson
The food is always consistently amazing. The bagels are some of the best offered in the FM area, plain or seeded. The menu rotates, but generally there are some consistent standards. Ingredients are largely sourced from the area and reflect the high quality of care put into preparation. It's a small operation, but the open front kitchen creates a cozy and honest setting. They also hold a monthly reservation-only themed prix fix course dinner that will blow you away (Tickets always sell out). Brunches get busy, but the longest I've had to wait is 20 minutes; make sure to order an Orange Roll on Saturday or Sunday (they often sell out they're that good). Go with a friend and try a few different plates, and make sure to hang around and dine in the mid-century furniture shop! Andrea has led many kitchens, including the Hotel Donaldson, but I really believe Bernbaums is her best work.
Ryan Kalmoe
The food here is very delicious, if you like it. If you're under the age of 18, odds are you probably won't like it. Very kid unfriendly, but if you're a hipster without kids this place is probably right up your alley and would warrant a 5 star review.
Scott Kurth
Walking into BernBaum's is a marvelous experience. The decor is comforting and the building cozy. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and everyone was wearing their mask. I ordered the sweet porridge, which was delicious, and had an egg sald sandwich to go with it. The sandwich was refreshing but the bagel could have been toasted more.
Massoud Bagheri
While traveling to Fargo for work, this was my go to place on my lunch break.Loved the space, the ambience, and the food.
Solvei Stenslie
What a wonderful place :) everything on the menu is good. the cream cheese is amazing. the vibe of the place is incredibly cozy. i love that they don't really play radio there; makes it such a great spot for conversations. had a friend recommend the place to me once, and it's always one of the first places i hit up when I'm back in town. i highly recommend!
Austin Foss
The best place in Fargo for lunch! The atmosphere is very quaint and I love all the mid mod furniture. Everything on the menu is delicious, my favorite is the lox! The staff is always super friendly and the place is always packed for a reason. If you're visiting Fargo, you need to put this on your list of places to go!
Rajen Krishna
such amazing food. I always ask myself what is a restaurant/diner like Bernbaums doing in Fargo. Every item on their menu is absolutely delicious. They really brought a little culinary culture and great food to the middle of America.
Sonja Kosler
Excellent menu choices. Lox, bagel, latke, blintz. I took home an order of caraway potato salad. Now ready to drive an hour back for more. Friendly staff. I appreciated mask enforcement and planned distancing.
Kyle Schmaltz
Fantastic place for a quick bite to eat!
Kristofer Martell
Best bagels I've ever had! Looking forward to making my way through the entire menu. Everything so far has been outstanding.
John Holland Andringa
So so so tasty. They have a diverse, unique menu with options for breakfast and lunch. Incredible atmosphere. Just lovely. Can be a bit of a wait.
Lane Jacobson
Life changing food. Love the mid century modern furniture. Great service. I want rent a loft above the shop so I can live there.
Derik Arneson telecomm
I'd been meaning to come here for some time and I can very happily say all hype I've heard is true! The food is amazing and the atmosphere very unique! Definitely make this a stop!
Couple tips, the lamb meatloaf sandwich is wonderful and the Icelandic bagel is a must try.
Dane Johnson
I eat here five days a week. So yeah, it’s pretty good food.
Ashley Jacobson
I love the food; it’s traditional Norwegian-Jewish food so there’s a lot of different type cuisines rolled into one.
My biggest complaint is that gluten intolerant, and I’ve always gotten the latka as an option instead of the bagel. Recently, I had to pay an up-charge which would be understandable if the bagel dish wasn’t a salad without the bagel. It just seems extremely unfair to have to pay extra for less food. It’s frustrating being intolerant, and having salad as my only option to eat at a lot of places. I thought this was a dietary restriction friendly place, but it was just a lack of transparency from past experiences.
Tammy Paddon
We also ordered the lingonberry blintzes and savory porridge. I've had savory porridge a few places and I'm surprised more restaurants haven't jumped on this train. Their version featured a combination of wild rice, blow corn and barley, I believe. I kept thinking, I wish they sold this combination of grains and that I had purchased some!
Tiffany Brandon
Oooh, so good! Rarely do you visit a place where every single thing is done to perfection, you feel totally at home and start getting sad for when you're going to have to leave, and you get to dazzle your your taste buds with brand new flavors. BernBaum's was all of the above today and it was so great! The place was hopping mid-Sunday morning and there was a line to the door by the time we left.
Service was friendly and fast. The black coffee was perfect...rich, dark, a little acidic and super balanced. Get the orange roll (sorry can't remember if that's exactly what it's called) because it's amazing!! The dough is exactly what you want in a pastry, soft, pillowy, tender with a good pull. It's lightly sweet with a bit of orange and just so restrained and yet decadent all at once.
We had the Icelandic bagel (seeded bagel) and bacon and egg bagel. B&E came with a smear of zippy mustard and some amazing pickles. It had a little dollop of some creamy sauce on the sandwich that was smoky, sweet and topped the sandwich perfectly. The bagel (seeded) was perfectly chewy, bacon and eggs were cooked well and the whole thing was very tasty. We will probably try it next time on challah but it was great on the bagel.
The Icelandic has two kinds of fish (lox and gravlax), lightly pickled cucumber and fennel, smashed capers, micro greens, red onions, and chevre cream cheese. Both of the fishes were tasty, with a soft creamy mouth feel, and went great with the tangy cream cheese and assorted toppings. It was so different from our normal breakfast and so satisfying. Only thing I'd change is I wish I had an onion or everything bagel but that is just personal preference.
Every time a server came by with someone else's food we mentally added it to the list of "ooh, gotta try that next time." The vibe was chill, the decor is a mid-mod with a little kitsch thrown in.
All in all, perfect first trip and it will definitely not be the last! I wish this was down the street so it could be our regular breakfast joint. Can't wait to come back!!
Antony Sharbaugh
Like eating in a New York City deli. Outside seating allowed us to have our dogs enjoy the meal as well.
Taylor Flowe
I cannot say enough about the beauty that is Bernbaum’s. The retro aesthetic and gorgeous wood floors are homey. The service is impeccable, it’s staffed by some of the greatest people. Everyone is down to earth, welcoming, and friendly. The egg salad blew my mind. Micro greens everywhere. Would drive the ten hours from Chicago to experience this again.
Jason Schaefer
Have loved BernBaum's since the beginning. Finally got a chance to checkout the new location. It's wonderful! Had the vegan rueben which was one of the tastiest and most unique sandwiches I've ever had.
Ty Ford
Best place downtown for lunch, hands down. Eclectic variety (Jewish/Mediterranean/icelandic perhaps?) Of dishes based around delicious bagels and breads made in the shop. Ask Andrea (the owner) what her favorite thing to make at the moment is and you won't be disappointed. Super friendly staff and a huge emphasis on local sourcing!
Toby Mulvihill
Simply fantastic flavors every single time, haven't had something I didn't like. 100% recommended any day of the week.
Kia Trout
Thank you Bernbaum's! we are loyal customers, our fave restaurant in town. Ordered on-line night prior to Easter Sunday and even curbside, food is lovely. Ordered egg bake & baked at home, orange rolls, daily salad, borscht and a nordic lamb for my husband : ). Wonderful, special meal, glad they could accommodate at this difficult time for restaurants and businesses.
Meghan Battest
As all these reviews suggest, BernBaums is amazing. The food is interesting and delicious, the interior is modern and bright, and the service is always good.
I recommend the Iceland bagel plate or the Mideast bagel plate, and they serve Stumbeano's coffee (a local roast), which is delicious with a meal.
Ben Sailer
Bernbaums isn't just a good bagel place, it's legitimately some of the best food in town, full stop. Give this place your business and if you were thinking about going somewhere else, you should probably just go here instead.
Becky Gildea
Food was awesome! Super sweet atmosphere, decent prices and portions. I had the Romanian sausage and egg sandwich. It was huge, and the doll horseradish sauce was to die for! I will be back!
kristen zattera
Quite honestly one of my favorite places in Fargo. Low key and always fresh, the atmosphere is as good as the food. Everything is made from scratch daily and the vintage decor gives the vibe of being in a well loved home. I recommend this place to everyone
Blake Frink
Ordered a half dozen everything bagels and their homemade cream cheese and these are hands down the best bagels in town. I haven't had bagels this good since I lived in Brookline, MA. The folks behind the counter are super friendly as well. Cheers!
Matthew Wolberg
Excellent staff, nice atmosphere, a bit pricey for the main dishes or if you just want a sandwhich. Overall great attention to perking the palate with interesting combinations of flavors and variety of dishes...the daily greens is a great mix. Left yummified...
Elizabeth Barry
Such a cute spot! Great variety in the menu for a counter service place. Got the latke and lox, it was simply delicious. The Chai latte was frothy and delightful. Friendly staff and all tables were well spaced and clean.
Amanda McDonald
Is it breakfast yet? Or better yet, lunch time? If it is I’m there!
I’m still wondering how they get those eggs so fluffy on their bagel sandwiches!
The combinations of bagel sandwiches are really interesting and flavorful. Everything is made fresh to order. If you’re lucky you’ll make it in time to order some of their delicious orange rolls in the morning!
They also serve soups and hummus and other treats that will make your mouth water and belly more than full.
Savory Frank
Excellent service, excellent food. Everyone was incredibly helpful, especially Jasmine, in getting our food ordered and delivered. We will be making BurnBaums a regular part of our lives from now on.
Alaa Hussein
Very good taste, classic place and very friendly workers
Claire Noh
The soup I had was yummy but bagel was way too hard/chewy for salmon sandwich. It was little too messy but I'll still try another time. Yum
Heather Bartz
This place should have a line out the door,, delicious!!
Was in town for work, stopped for breakfast. Restaurant is open for dine in and carry out. Covid 19 policy of wearing a mask when ordering at counter otherwise you may take it off when dining. Dining room could be described as eclectic, comfortable and roomy.
Ordered the sweet porridge for 4.29 and the classic latke for 5.89.
The best breakfast I have had in a very long time.
The classic latke was my favorite, potato latke was savory and perfectly done, the sweet apple compote had a bit of ginger in it which was an amazing compliment to the latke and the creme fraiche was exactly right.
The waitress, who was friendly and helpful, shared that the sweet porridge would be filling and she wasn't kidding! Although called "sweet porridge" it was not the over sweet you get at many chain restaurants, and it was delicious.
This place should have a line out the door! Especially if you are interested in vegetarian or gluten free options.
When I am back to Fargo I will 100% be dining at BernBaum's!!
Trish B
A maz ing! Lox & scrambled eggs with fresh baked focaccia bread! The amount of delicious smoked salmon was very surprising and appreciated!! The accompanied capers and delicious soft cheese were ample and perfectly presented! Beautiful and HIGHLY recommended.
Matthew Cihak
Amazing food and drinks! Lots of vegan and vegetarian options. Kind and courteous staff, with a beautiful and welcoming atmosphere. One of the first places I suggest to people coming to town.
Megan Ruch
Wonderful shop with great sandwiches (all of which you cannot go wrong with). The staff is so friendly to boot! If you don't know what to try, go with the Nordic Lamb to start.
Gillian Senger
The food was soo good I couldn't get the smile off my face.
Nick Van Beek
Excellent bagels and the food is purely outstanding! Can't recommend it highly enough. Expect a small casual vibe with an astetic of vintage/antique. Every thing is homemade. Recommend the Icelandic bagel plate and potato latke with apple compote.
Dominique Martinez
This is THE place for lunch. Excellent variety of vegetarian options on top of the very true to their roots, Jewish deli options. If more stars were possible, I'd add them.
Sean Ford
Cool little spot. The bagels were good although I was slightly disappointed they only had plain. Plenty of good cream cheese though and the coffee was good. Neat atmosphere.
Tommy Schmidt
Seriously amazing food, with each menu item crafted uniquely and full of flavor. One of the best places in Fargo to get food. The ambiance is quirky, fun, and hip. Definitely recommend BernBaum's to anyone visiting Fargo.
Karensa Short
Just had the vegan Ruben and it was one of the most delicious and satisfying veggie sandwiches I’ve ever had! Oh my goodness! So happy with it and I’m already dreaming of the next one!
Matthew Confeld
The vintage vibes are only outdone by the fantastic assortment of bagels, breads, soup and so much more. Quickly becoming one of my favorites in the Fargo area.
Vegan and Vegetarian Friendly.
Andrea H Kraft
Delicious food and coffee plus the best customer service in Fargo!!
Joel Suiter
Amazing food - tried a number of things from their menu and every one was very well done. Highly recommend! The fig rugelach was one of the best desserts I’ve had in a long time.
Krista Foerster
Seriously tasty food. We went on a Sunday afternoon and they were upfront about the food wait being 30+ minutes. So worth the wait. They have many vegetarian and vegan options as well. There's a reason this place stays so busy.
Resa Lucas
Easily the best meals to be had in Fargo
Tim Ryan
The food was excellent, but the wait was long, especially for a weekday where they didn't seem that busy.
Mandi Kutscher
Tasty! So nice to have variety in Fargo. I loved the lox and eggs and my husband enjoyed the horseradish mustard with his breakfast sandwich.
Chantel Cummings
This is a cool little place, locally owned and operated. They make thier own bagels and other items such as bagel breakfast sandwiches, egg bake those are just a few. The storefront that it's in, is called MidMod I think and it's a vintage furniture and home accessories store. They have some cool pieces in there. The menu is always rotating, so just when you think you have settled into your favorite item, there's a shakeup and you get to try something new! They have both dine in and take out options available.
Jamisha Milton
The food was amazing.... I went there alone after googling Good Breakfast in my area and returned the very next with my entire family!!!! We All cleaned our plates my 9 year old son included.... Highly recommend you trying for yourself!!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰 …
Phil Holt
Most unexpectedly fantastic lunch I have ever had. The Nordic lamb sandwich was absolutely amazing. Completely caught me off guard to the point I had to finish chewing to say "wow" out loud.
Warren Christensen
The best place to eat lunch in the Fargo-Moohead area. BernBaums features authentic bagels and a collection of Jewish and Norwegian fare. The menu changes daily but I've yet to eat anything there that wasn't delicious. Excellent drop coffee is the perfect compliment to a bowl of hot soup, a side salad and a bagel plate or sandwich. A true gem of downtown.
Ryan Kauffman
Nice that they are open again. Seem to have a larger menu but still the great quality food that has come to be expected. A must stop if you are in town visiting, and a great place to grab a bite to eat over the lunch hour if you are downtown.
Brian Smart
Great coffee, service, and brunch in a wonderful vintage store!
Nicholas Frye
Amazing bagels and lox. Very unique Danish cuisine. Cooked on a little electric stove right behind the counter. Funky mid-century western/Americana theme. Was a welcome treat passing through Fargo
Austin B
Tasty and unique food! Although, I wish they would label the dairy free(df) menu options and the substitutions to make them dairy free as well.
Mark Hughes
Feeling the Bern. Nordic Lamb was delicious
Azurus Blue
Eclectic eatery with many options for restrictived and picky eaters. Atmosphere is familiar to for those who have enjoyed artistic communities with local fare such as Portland or Austin. Vegan and gluten free choices are available. The carrot salad was delicious.
Amber Drechsel
I love this place! It's so cute and nicely decorated! The staff are super friendly and always put a smile on your face and not to mention the food and coffee are great! Definitely a go-to
Aaron Andrews
Happened upon this place the night before as they were closing and was intrigued enough to return the next morning for breakfast! Fantastic food at good prices. Atmosphere was boasted by old Coke advertisements and tin children’s play ovens. Place was great!
Matt Donahue
Very good. Never been disappointed. The second best scrambled eggs ever; grandma's was and always will be the best. The blintzes were delicious.
Debbie Ankeney
Love the food! Vegetarian options, fresh bagels and baked goodies. Very healthy meals and soups. Also, the best coffee in town!
Courtney Olson
Great food, even better service, locally owned and downtown Fargo location. If you haven’t stopped in you are missing out! A must try for tourists and locals alike!
Joshua Majeski
The food is delicious, the atmosphere has character and charm, the staff are kind and helpful. The Israeli lamb sandwich is delightful and flavorful!
Greetings Tour
Thank you so much for supporting our Greetings from Fargo mural project. This was definitely our favorite meal/restaurant in downtown Fargo!
Josh Guck
A lot of different options you don't see at other places. Definitely worth giving it a try if you are looking for something new. It was pretty busy when we were there so there wasn't a good place to stand in line to order without feeling like you were intruding on someone's meal. I got the brisket sauerkraut sandwich and it was delicious!
Randy Carlson
Delicious food. Probably some of the best food in Fargo. Great atmosphere.
Dave Lund
You know those local food places you love to find? Well this is it. If you are in Fargo for any reason you must try BernBaum's. I recommend the black and white cookies!
Aaron Kessler
LOVE! Such a great, casual lunch spot. Really happy to have been introduced to this restaurant. Perfect for takeout.
Cynthia Gray
Great bagels and delicious, healthy food in a relaxed atmosphere. Excellent coffee and orange rolls. Delicious little cresent type rolls and other treats. Very unique and local.
Steve Kulik
Good breakfast bagel ,
Enjoyable coffee
We will go back
Nick Due
Really love the food, atmosphere and staff. They actively listen to their customers on how they can continue to improve their already impeccable menu and location and are not shy to going the extra mile.
David Lundberg
Outstanding food and service. Everything we tried was anazing. There's just nothing quite like it. Where else can you get NY deli meets Scandinavia. Very Fargo!
Abigail Kruempel
Absolutely our favorite breakfast and lunch spot. Incredibly tasty food and EVERYTHING is made from scratch. Its also fun to peruse the antiques in and around the dining area.
American Yank
We east coast Jews take our bagels and schmear as seriously as the French take their wines, Italians their pastas, and Polish their pirogues.
Years of eating Thomas's packaged bagels beg gone! I will drive from Linton to Fargo just for a dozen of these bagels. They are without a doubt the best in state and the two ladies that are behind counter making them are just lovely.
That all being said, I need to highlight the Rugelach. Rugelach are Jewish pastry of Ashkenazic origin. It is very popular in Israel, commonly found in most cafes and bakeries. It is also a popular treat among American and European Jews.
Traditional rugelach are made in the form of a crescent by rolling a triangle of dough around a filling. The fillings can be anything but traditionally they are chocolate and raisins & walnuts.
Gotta get em, they will soon be your favorite cookies.
Andrea Kochensparger
My favorite restaurant in FM! The chef balances flavors perfectly and I crave their pickles. Get the Icelandic on focaccia! You're welcome.
Megan E
Delicious!! I can't believe I waited this long to try it. Fresh good, clean dining area, friendly and fast. Definitely will be back very soon!
Harry Josh Moskowitz
Love it. Fills my Jewish deli cravings. Vegan options. Awesome food. Vegan Ruben is the best sandwich in all of F/M
Swagendorf
What started out as the only place to find New York style bagels as good as in my Manhattan neighborhood has grown into the most dependable, creative, delicious, gracious brunch /lunch spot in town. But considering Andrea Bernbaum is at the helm, I wouldn't expect anything less.
Simeon Stala
The food was excellent. We had the brisket, locks on a bagel and matzo ball soup.
My only complaint is the prices were high for the portions.
Donna Simpson
What a great place! The chicken matzo ball soup was absolutely delicious and I really enjoyed the latkes. I highly recommend BernBaum's.
H. Ray
The best bagels I've ever eaten--and more!!
I've eaten bagles from Manhattan to Dublin, and these are the best I've ever had--chewy and substantial, with a hint of crunch on the outside.
But Andrea also makes inspired soups and salads, with locally sourced of-the-moment ingredients like fiddlehead greens, and latkes to die for.
Whether you're doing vegan or Paleo, Andrea's got something for you, and it will be delicious.
Brian Stitt
Delicious bagels, lox and all sorts of pickles. Would recommend ordering ahead if you're taking out as it can take a while but is totally worth the wait.
Dylan Spicer
There is a scene in the famous movie “As Good as it Gets” where Jack Nicholson’s character discovers that his favorite waitress is not working at “his” restaurant that day so he heads to her house to be served breakfast. I feel like doing the same when I forget that Bernbaums closes at 3pm. Would it be bad if I showed up at Chef Andreas (or Paul’s) house for an after hours snack?
Bernbaums is the best. Midcentury modern decor, local art, the most amazing food in the area, and Willie Nelson on vinyl. What else do you need?
Noah Ford-Dunker
Easily the best breakfast/lunch spot in town. Idk how they make their eggs but they are magical. Be sure to try the Matzo ball soup.
Molly Weismantel
Mind blowingly good. These are what the perfect bagel tastes like. Haunts my dreams.
Kathryn Fink
After taking a bite of their lox I felt like I was back in NY. Everything it's fresh and unique. Flavors are to die for. Haven't been disappointed by a BernBaum's dish yet.
Stephen Baird
Real bagels! Not just donut shaped bread but honestly real bagels! It can be a little pricey, especially if you go for one if the higher end bagel plates, but if you love bagels it's well worth it.
Leah A
Perfection. New and interesting things on the menu all the time and the team is top notch! Seriously come check it out. Pick something you can't pronounce, the team will teach you what it is and soon you'll be having Bern Baum's for brunch every Saturday. -this may or may not be a true story...
Alex
Excellent food, they do what they do very well. Their hours and the fact they use expensive compostable plates made from dried banana leaves gives you an idea that their intentions are more than commercial. Live long and prosper, Bernbaum's Bagles.
Joe Burgum
Bernbaum is one of the best launch spots in downtown Fargo for vegetarians. There are always a great variety of veggie salad and sandwiches, I'd recommend trying the beat sandwich with a bagel and some hummus.
Angela Asleson
They always have fresh, local ingredients and the best flavor combinations. Everything I've eaten here has been top notch. HIGHLY recommend!
Brad Beggs
Awesome local bakery and restaurant with local specialties including a coconut yogurt concoction with a fantastic granola/nut topping and strawberry rhubarb sauce. It is awesome!
Lindsey Schreiner
Unique bagel sandwich shop. Lovely atmosphere. If you're in downtown Fargo I highly recommend trying this cute little place
Steve Schaefer
Good food, good atmosphere and good service. Very enjoyable.
Crystal Kirby
Delicious bagels and wonderful cream cheese. Also serves lunch as well as bagels. They carry two types of bagels: everything and plain. Everything bagel with plain cream cheese is the way to go.
kristin larson
My husband and I stopped by for coffee. We ate blintzes and I thought I was in heaven. This is literally a diamond in the rough. You will not be disappointed.
Ellie Akola
Since I have gone vegan I’ve been missing a Ruben. Thank you BernBaum’s for making my dreams come true!!! The food is really delicious.
AJ Burthold
Ordered an eggs and lox breakfast bagel and got so much food! Was also very good and not something you find everywhere
Demetrius Bagley
Deliciousness from a hiding in plain sight cafe tucked into a furniture store! with wonderful vegan specials each day :) Terrific service.
COLLEEN O'MALLEY
Our whole party of 6 really enjoyed our food. It was fresh and very tasty.
Vanessa Mapel
The food is so fresh. The greens are so fresh it's incredible. My mission is to try everything on the menu!
Bryan Russell
Awesome food. Great atmosphere. Friendly people. I love the Iceland Bagel!
Thomas Hilde
This place is a true gem in downtown Fargo. Amazing bagels and food and people! This place and Twenty Below Coffee down the street are on another level.
doug van beek
Amazing breakfast, as I like lunch items for breakfast, I appreciate their allowance of my choice
Timothy Dutcher
I really liked this place. The service wasn't very fast but every menu item is made to order. Very good food, cool decor, and great prices.
Patience “Tess” Bialik
Very interesting setup, good quality food as well. Our server was super nice and helpful. Will definitely be going back soon.
Corster
Awesome food that is different with a ton of gluten free and vegan options! Looking forward to dinner menu sometime down the road!
Tom Aldridge
Awesome vegan friendly options. Amazing quality. Time from order to delivery at our table was so worth it.
Rob Burke
If you want amazong local food, this is the place to go, food and selection of healthy options is so good, amazing staff. The lamb bagel sandwich is 🙌🏻 …

Bernbaum's is one of my favorite lunch spots in the F-M area. Chef Baumgardner + crew having an amazing menu selection and the restaurant is housed in the quaintest midcentury furniture store. The rotational menu features a wide selection blending Nordic and Jewish cuisine. The sourdough bagels are a must! It's deli-style so you order at the counter and friendly staff deliver to your table. I always bring out of town guests and they rave about the food & ambiance!

The best hidden gem in FM area. Literally steps off the beaten path, and with shorter than normal hours but so worth visiting. The decor is interesting because the space is shared with Mid Mod Mad Haus. The service is excellent. The staff is always friendly. The food is delicious and unique for the FM area, featuring high quality NY Deli style foods, I would compare to Katz deli, which charges $40 for a sandwich, but here you can get the same for less than $10. The owners are engaged in the community and have offered their space for fundraiser preparation and other events which they do not stand to benefit from as a business, showing a clear civic mindedness that makes you feel good about getting your lunch from here (besides the fact that the food is delicious). Highly recommended, I really can not say enough.
Steve French
