Trio-Plant Based masterfully injects soul into vegan cuisine. So much flavor packed into their meals. I ordered the Mac Attack Burger and chili “cheese” fries. Mac attack uses a beyond meat patty with macaroni noodles. I can see why that burger is their best seller. Truly astonishing how close the “cheese” tastes to the real thing. I highly recommend this restaurant for all vegan eaters and fans of soul food alike. You will not be disappointed. I look forward to visiting again.

Lovely experience all three times we have visited Trio. Chef Louis often steps out of the kitchen to chat, and the woman taking our orders has the most beautiful, welcoming smile. We love coming here and are never disappointed. We got the "Go Crazy" burger and the Falafel burger. Both outstanding. Both extraordinary. Highly recommend.

Meat lovers. Come and gather around. Let me tell you a story of a vegan restaurant that made my meat-loving heart waver. If you want to try a vegan restaurant that would make even the most stubborn person love it, this is the place. The atmosphere of the place clean and almost too quiet (in a good way!) compared to the hustle of the street outside. The bathroom was clean and well kept. I ordered the Lemon Pepper Cauliflower Wings with the Trio "Ranch", the Fiesta Burger with a Cajun Fries, Buffalo Mac, and the Vanilla cake with Strawberry sauce. The wings came out first and I was skeptical of the ranch that came out with it. I mean, how do you even make vegan ranch? But gosh dang it, one dip of the sauce and I was hooked. Tasted just like ranch but not heavy at all. You could drink the sauce and you wouldn't have a stomach ache. The tangy bbq sauce was good too, but it was not as impressive comparatively. The wings themselves were crunchy, not soggy. Nicely seasoned and not dripping with grease or "water" from the Califlower. Huge portions too. 9/10 The Fiesta Burger with Fries came next. I looked at the burger with another skeptical eye. I smelled it. "Smells like a burger." I expected to take a bite out of it, give it a "not as good as the real thing" review and write it off. Well; as you can see from the photo, one bite and I could not stop. You know what it tasted like? Five Guy's. Yeap. I said it. The burger is the vegan equivalent of Five Guys (and I love that place.) Juicy, meaty, and without that wierd "vegan" patty taste. Wow. I had almost forgot that I needed to take a photo due to it being so good. 10/10. The Mac came out after. Personally, it was not the best Mac I've ever had. For vegan Mac though, it was pretty good. If you did not know it was vegan, you wouldn't notice a thing wrong. I wish it had more cheese in it, but maybe it is a vegan cheese thing where you can't use too much or the consistency might be wierd. Tangy and that buffalo heat that everyone knows. The noodles were cooked thoroughly and al dente. 7/10 Lastly, the desert. The cake was soft, smooth, and not too sweet. God dang it, finally. I hate cakes that are so sweet, your dentist would cry. The strawberry sauce though was a bit underwhelming. Though it was good, it seemed to not be a "sauce" but a sweet watery "syrup". Reminds me of school strawberries that I loved. 8/10 Overall, a great experience. Service was bomb-diggty and even the chef came out to check on us. Now that's some home cooking stuff you only see in the movies. The only thing I would see people being reluctant to come would be the price. I only say this because I know a lot of people feel differently about food. Personally, you get what you pay for. And you will definitely get your money's worth here. That's the jist of it.

Thank you Trio Plant-based for the most wonderful catered lunch today!! It was my first time trying jackfruit BBQ ribs and when I tell you I couldn't tell they were vegan, I'm not lying!! Everything was delicious - the ribs (of course!) the corn bread w/ maple butter, the gluten free mac & cheese, the collard greens - YUM!! If you live in the Twin Cities or are visiting the Twin Cities, it is a worthwhile stop!! I truly appreciate the time and care that was put into our order. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! So delicious!

Unbelievably good food, I would eat here every day if possible. You MUST try the collard greens, they are undoubtedly the best I’ve ever had. Would absolutely recommend, even my non-vegan boyfriend was floored at how amazing the food was.

Let me start by saying, really really good food. Was in town visiting and wanted sum’n good and plant based. Bingo…! We found Trio Plant-Based. For a first timer, the menu could be a little overwhelming. ONLY because of the many options to choose from. I wish I could’ve ordered the entire menu. I ordered the Na-Cho fries. This was the first time I’ve ever had walnut taco meat & was really impressed. I would order it again. Really friendly and patient staff. Really good customer service. I’d definitely recommend this place if you’re in the area.

Very pleasant experience. The food was better than expected, the service was friendly, and the location is great! I had the Chili Mac and the Walnut Taco Salad and thought they were both really solid, even as a non-vegan.

Had lunch there recently; the flavors and textures were AMAZING. I especially loved the mac & cheeze, the collards, and the BBQ jackfruit “ribs”. It’s important to me that the place is both vegan and black-owned, but after one taste I almost didn’t care about either of those. 😊 Vegan soul food doesn’t have to be a contradiction in terms anymore!

I had the buffalo cauliflower and the soul bowl on the recommendation of the waitress. The cauliflower is such a huge portion and only $14. The buffalo sauce was tangy and delicious. I had to force myself to not eat it all because i had the bowl coming. I was a big nervous with the bowl with everything together, but the flavors were mouth symphony. I did opt for the extra $2 bbq riblets which i don't recommend because the bbq sauce was a but over powering. Oddly i had wanted more collard greens in the bowl because they tasted so good. That's no usually a favorite item for me so i was happily impressed. The Mac and cheez was also excellent, normally vegan cheese leaves a lot to be desired but they did the food perfectly. I highly recommend this busy vegan joint and top it off with a homemade glass of strawberry lemonade. I only wish the glasses were bigger to drink more.

Stopped by on a beautiful Saturday right around lunch time and had a great experience using their walk-up window! There are all kinds of parking options nearby, service was efficient, very sweet and friendly, our predicated wait time of just 30 minutes was accurate, and the food was AMAZING. We placed our order, took a walk around the neighborhood and after 30 minutes, our order was ready. We had the Boolin Buffalo Wrap with fries, and the PICK-3 Soul Food Platter (which we selected Mac and Cheeze, Collard Greens, and House BBQ Ribs). This is the kind of deliciousness that you can tell is made with love...it makes you slow down and enjoy each bite. Thanks to the Trio crew for putting out this good energy and quality food for the community. We can't wait to try the rest of the menu. So happy to support this business!

The food and atmosphere are ridiculously good!! I’m not vegan or vegetarian, so don’t let the plant-based menu scare you away, because this was easily one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. The Mac Attack (mac n cheese burger) was better than any “real” meat and “real” cheese burger, and the cornbread on the side was delicious. The staff was friendly and helpful, and at the end of our meal one of the staff members (owner I believe?) came to our table to thank us personally for stopping in, which was so kind of him. Plus it’s a Black-owned small business… overall just such good food and good vibes. Support small business and eat local!!

I stayed in town for a week from Chicago and all I can say is YOU GUYS WERE MY FAVORITE PLACE. No offense to MN but the food I had at other restaurants was trash lol Trio Plant Based GETS IT!!! SEASONED QUALITY AND QUANTITY FOOD. I wish I could stay longer to try other things on the menu.. but the quantity was so big I was good with just the jack fruit fries GET THESE PEOPLE FAMOUS AND SOMEONE MAKE THEM VIRAL BC YOUR CITY NEEDS TO LEARN ON FLAVOR. Mixed berry lemonade 10/10 LOVED IT WITH THE MINT! I dont drink so it made me feel boogie like I was drinking a mocktail. Bbq JACKFRUIT FRIES WITH SLAW!!!! THATS SAUCE ON THE SIDE IS BEYOND GOOD REMINDED ME OF ONE MY GRANDMA MADE FOR SANDWICHES RIP THE FRIES WERE JUST THE BEAT FRIES IVE HAD IN A WHILE BROUGHT ME BACK TK MY COLLEGE DAYS GETTING JIMS/ Maxwells with “the Chicago sauce” doesnt taste like it at all but the fries just took me backkkkk. My husband and I tried this place for the first time today (8-21-21) and it was phenomenal! I got the Mac and cheese burger, and he got the soul bowl with the ribblets. Everything was SO delicious!! Wonderful customer service, a lot of variety, and VERY tasty food! You can tell that everything is made with heart and soul! Black owned, and plant based!!! SO INCREDIBLE!! A MUST TRY! We will be back many, many, more times!

Really excellent food and service! It was pretty quiet when I was there for lunch, but service was speedy and the host answered all our questions about the menu. Cauliflower buffalo wings are so good and crispy! I had the taco trio with the walnut “meat” and it was exactly what I wanted. The taco shells were a bit small for the quantity of food on the plate, but still super good. You get a good portion for the price and all the flavors are on point

I'm not vegan or even vegetarian, but I love trying plant based foods and eating plant based when I can and I really love supporting new restaurants. A friend and I split the cheeseburger, ribs, and Mac and cheese. I was most impressed with the ribs and how it tasted even better than regular ribs. It has a great meat like texture that satisfies meat eaters, but not desperately trying to be meat so much that it would be off-putting to strict vegans. It tastes exactly like what it is. The burger and Mac was delicious too. I loved the general feel of the restaurant and the decor. The staff was all so kind, welcoming, and informative about everything. They were so busy which is expected. Can't wait to go back!

Walking into this place for the first time, was so inspiring we could feel the history that was made here. The owner Louis greeted us with smile and warm welcome. Listening to Louis story as we ate was even more amazing to hear in person as well encouraging to move forward in our own entrepreneur journey. The food we order was jackfruit BBQ ribs, Mac & cheese, greens, yams and cornbread. It was interesting to hear the work & ingredients that went into each portion of food. Which was definitely fulfilling after only a few bites. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to newcomers of the vegan food life to challenge and explore your taste buds. Trio is NOT your average vegan spot. Therefore is a must try.

I’m in Love with everything I’ve eaten here. My favorite is the B-B Burger with the 2 Onion rings in the sandwich and the sauce is so Good on it. I Also Love the New cucumber and mint lemonade it is so delicious and the sweet potato pie from Luis‘s mother is so mouthwatering delicious. Five stars is underrated I wish there was more stars to give the restaurant because it truly deserves it

One of the best vegan restaurants I've ever been to - & definitely best in the Twin Cities! We enjoyed Trio Tacos, Nacho Fries & a For your Soul Bowl w/ Jackfruit Riblets. The flavor was so AMAZING that I didn't care that it was missing meat. From a 🍖❤️. The soul food vibe is real & the owners story is one of a beautiful love for his community. I 10/10 recommend stopping in for a meal regardless of if you are vegan. You will not be disappointed.

My friend who is vegan came to Minneapolis to visit & we googled a place for us to eat. (I am a meat eater) We were all blown away by their food!!! The flavors were incredible. I wasn’t missing meat at all! We met the owner & talked with him about his reason for opening Trio. His dedicated work & love for his community is so inspirational. This was, hands down, some of the best vegan food I’ve ever had! I had the soul bowl and I swear I dreamed about it last night. My uncle, who isn’t vegan, had the Mac burger and said it was amazing and the he would def come back for it. The wait time was minimal and everyone was super nice and helpful. Absolutely delicious food that my vegan son and I (non vegan) thoroughly enjoyed. We had The fried cauliflower mac and cheese with buffalo sauce and the burger with gouda, trio BBQ sauce, the biggest onion rings I've ever seen all on a toasted pretzel bun. The Cajun seasoned fries were to die for. I will not need to wait for my son to come back in town for me to go back to Trio Plant-Based.

I was elated to try the Soul Food Platter that was floating around social media. Of course I ordered EVERYTHING on the platter. Greens, Mac and Cheese, Cornbread with Maple Butter, Sweet Potatoes and The Herbivorous Butcher Smoky House Ribs. Every bite complimented the next bite. The Greens and Cornbread were my favorite. For dessert I had the scrumptious Harriet’s Escape Peach Cobbler. Overall, the food is really good but the menu items are a bit overpriced. I will definitely return and continue to support their mission.

Nice calm brunch/dinner spot. We got the sweet bowl, the BBQ ribs, falafel burger, and the regular osul food bowl. All rivers good the falafel one is hearty so don't play with that like your gunna eat anything else because it'll fill you up 😂. Try to get there as earluly as you can to beat the closing rush. The 1 staff member was very nice and discrete. All around a nice casual sit down with the benefit of being vegan. Maybe a little on the higher price side but it makes sense for the variety of unique options. And worth it. Gotta support black owners and keep the black dollar circulating in our community 🥰

Ate here months ago and can't believe I forgot to review. Super friendly service, clean establishment, and delicious food. This Southerner emphatically approves! We got the Soul Bowl which contained the best vegan greens I've found in MN. The bbq sauce on the ribs was the right amount of sweet and tang. The Mac and cheese did not have that displeasing after taste associated with many vegan cheeses. We can't wait to return!

This gem of a new restaurant didn’t disappoint! I had the soul food platter which allowed me to choose between 3,4, or 5 items to bundle together for a delicious feast. I chose BBQ ribs, collard greens, and house made Mac & Cheez. My hubby had the BLT made with bacon from The Herbivorous Butcher. No surprise THAT would be good but I snuck a bite and it was even better than I expected even having had their bacon before! I’ve concluded that they simply put an extra dose of love in every item they make here and that’s what took this meal to the next level. I can’t wait to come back and try all the rest of their menu as well as their drool-worthy desserts (we were too stuffed this time). Do yourself a favor and go support this new, local, vegan restaurant. You will NOT regret it!!!

The gold standard for vegan food in Minneapolis. My roommate and I ordered pickup and were impressed with how friendly and orderly the service was. The BBQ ribs, coleslaw, cornbread, collard greens, mac and cheese, and yams were top notch. The ribs are made from jackfruit and have a spongy, stringy, chewy texture that is very similar to meat. The soul food flavors are on point and delicious here. Hope to be back again soon.

AMAZING!!! We were so excited for our first (of many) dining experience at Trio that we ended up ordering almost everything on the menu. Each delicious plate was as impressive as the next so it’s hard to pick a favorite. I loved the ham and cheese sandwich served with tomato soup - but again everything was 10/10 so no matter what you’re in the mood for you can’t go wrong. Going plant based was the best thing we’ve ever done for our health, the environment and especially the animals - the ultimate win/win/win - but Trio added another win, racial justice! Trio is owned primarily by people of color and has a progressive mission of empowering others. Check out their original kickstarter video for more info on their origin story. These guys put it all on the line for something they believe in and Minneapolis is so lucky to have them. They’re personal heroes of mine and they also know how to cook! You’ll dine feeling good knowing that you support good people but will be simultaneously blown away by their food!

They have a great take out set up. I ordered a soul food platter with yams, Mac and cheese, southern coleslaw and cornbread with maple butter. High quality ingredients. Very flavorful. The cornbread was hearty and perfectly accented with the maple butter. As a person who can't eat dairy, the creaminess in the southern coleslaw was a treat. I have missed being able to eat creamy coleslaw. I can't wait to go back and try the BBQ ribs and more of their Mac and cheese varieties, or actually, the whole menu.

This photo does not do the food, experience justice! The space is open, although it echoes it’s not overbearing, and the colors are inviting. The food melts in your mouth, couldn’t tell it was vegan, and the “chicken” wrap was better than eating an actual chicken wrap. Excited to continue dining at this establishment!

I loved this place. I definitely think it’s on par with places like J Selby’s and Herbivorous! Our server was attentive and very friendly. I honestly can’t wait to be back here again. The rib was so close to the real thing I’m shook. The only downfall is the parking is paid around the restaurant but that’s uptown area for you so I don’t mind having to walk a little 🤷🏻‍♀️

Amazing. First of all, I'm not vegan, or even a vegetarian. If I didn't know what I was about to eat was veg before, I couldn't tell you that that wasnt real chicken and cheese. The service was great, one of the owners came to the table to make sure we were enjoying our food. The food was amazing. They have a great kids menu, and a diverse selection of choices. I would say this is vegan food even for non vegans and must go to place for any Minneapolis resident.

Really good food and prompt service. Very friendly staff. However, if you are WFPB-NO like myself, be prepared for disappointment. There was only one thing on the menu that did not have oil on my visit. Why would you put oil in collard greens or sweet potatoes? Anyway, if you don't care about the oil, it is a great place for a nice meal at a reasonable price. Didn't care for the music selection either. The only rap I like with my dinner is a spinach wrap. But that's a personal thing.

Trio is fantastic. Great food and great service. If you’re interested in trying vegan food for the first time, there’s no place better to start. It’s also a great place to go if you’re trying to accommodate palates of all kinds. It’s arguably the best soul food in Minnesota (coming from someone who has traveled extensively in Louisiana, I’d say almost anywhere but my auntie might have something to say about that). The staff are amazing and the service is quick. Really really great food and definitely recommend for vegans and omnivores alike.

Absolutely amazing food and people! My husband surprised me by taking me here for our anniversary and in 38 years it was the best anniversary dinner experience ever. Great food, amazing service and black owned. I was traveling from Miami, FL on a business trip and I was very impressed with the food and flavors. I loved it so much I went two days in a row for dinner to go. I had the buffalo cauliflower wrap with fries and the strawberry cake. I wish I got it again but I tried the falafel burger but I did not like it. Overall i enjoyed this restaurant, food and the service.

Excellent food, lovely decor. We had the burger with sweet potato fries and sampler and couldn’t believe everything was amazing. I’ve had vegan Mac and cheese that was gritty at other restaurants, but here it’s creamy with a bit of cinnamon for a kick. Recommended.

Everything tasted really good. Serious yummy time here. I especially liked the nachos. Portions are fair, and for $12, the plate of nachos was towering over me. The chairs were comfy, and the music wasn't too loud. The waitress (Dallas) was kind and helpful, and delivered the food with haste and a smile on her face. I hope to come here again some day!

My meat eating friends said it tasted absurdly close to the “real stuff”. Would definitely come back here! It was a little pricey though but worth it

UPDATE: their menu changed and they don't have the items I had last time which I loved. The soul food items were okay, but far from authentic and like last time they lack the oil, salt and extra flavor that one expect from soul food. There was only one waitress which made the service a bit slow. All in all an okay experience. I'm not that I'll return again, which is a shame because my first time there was amazing.

Took my daught out to experience the vegan world and I must say.....I was blown away. I had the soul bowl with the jackfruit ribletts and it was mouth watering. The Mac n cheese was out of this world, I had to have more of the greens, and the cornbread was lip smacking good. Ooooo that honey butter they put on the top of it all was the icing on the cake.

Great vibes! The first thing I noticed were the black history month posters throughout the restaurant, that was so awesome!!! The menu had a diverse selection of food (ALL PLANT BASED!!!) ribs, chikken quesadillas, Lebanese salad , which they were out of :( . I had the chickken quesadillas...they were very tasty! The Spanish rice was a little crunchy and sticky but overall it was really good! I’d come back!

I can’t get enough of this place! My favorite vegan restaurant in the twin cities, hands down. The food is incredible every time. Amazing, fresh flavored comfort food that doesn’t feel too heavy. It’s also the first black owned plant based restaurant in Minnesota and it feels so good to see them thriving! Wait time for takeout/delivery can be an hour or more at times, but I would imagine this is because they are so busy (because the food is so good!) This is not something that bothers me and I don’t mind waiting, but if you do, order early! It is beyond worth it and I recommend to everyone. I love this place because it’s black owned and plant based at that! However I am a southerner and northern soul food is just not it. It would be good if you’ve never had down south soul food. I had the cornbread which was very pleasant, the ribs which were very good, I tried the yams which I didn't personally enjoy all that much but it was my first time trying yams, and the mac attack burger which was amazing. First full vegan restaurant I've been to and I didn't even feel like I was eating vegan. Wonderful and will go again. The ranch is amazing by the way

My friend and I just ordered lunch from Trio today, excited to try a new vegan place. We got the cornbread, onion rings, bbq jackfruit fries, the Mac attack burger and Buffalo wrap. SO GOOD. Wow. I was really impressed with the food here. We got the full southern platter and the nachos. All items were amazing. Flavors were all a unique yet approachable take on classic foods. There wasn’t a single items that we were not impressed with. As someone who grew up on Kansas City barbecue (sweet over spicy/savory), this was perfect and so comforting on a rainy day. We will definitely be back to work our way through this menu.

My takeout nachos were great, I was pleasantly surprised with how decadent they were. The tortilla chips tasted very fresh & were super thick. They stayed crunchy on my walk home(except for the ones delightfully covered in cheez), but aren't the type that crumble into dust when you pick them up. I will also say the chips were not over-salted. I admire how picturesque their storefront & takeout window are. I thought they just opened up in 2020 but turns out they have been here for a year. As a meat eater who loves restaurants, I had been a little hesitant to try out a vegan place (my friend Ben recommended it on social media) Now I am looking forward to trying some more dishes!

I had the soul bowl and a slice of cake. The bowl was great. It had a great balance of flavors and textures, honestly probably some of the best vegan food I've had. Warning: They are not messing around with the buffalo sauce. It wasn't Minnesota spicy, it just just spicy. Not "too" hot, the flavor was really balanced... but it was hot. The cake was very homey, like something my grandma would have taken to an after church potluck. Overall, a very satisfying meal.

I had a soul bowl from here during my stay in Minneapolis. It was some of THE BEST vegan food I’ve had out in my life. It’s a bonus that this business is local and Black-owned. Talk about delicious AND satisfying! We ordered the onion rings, Lou wrap, and falafel burger. I love all onion rings, but these might be my new favorite; the batter was flaky and soooo good. Each dish was very tasty and generously portioned- yay, because I love leftovers! Even though we both ate until we were (too) full, we still felt great after this meal, and that’s the power of plants, baby. We can’t wait to come back!

The food was amazing. I loved the taco trio that I got. However, $14.50 for tacos was pretty steep. The reason they get 3 stars is due to the terrible service. We placed our orders at 5:50 and arrived around 6:25. The cashier at the window said it would be ready in another 25 minutes. We came back at 6:50, a bit confused on why it would take an hour for meals for only three people. Again, the cashier told us 7 more minutes...we didn’t get our food until 7:15. They gave away one of my friend’s orders to the wrong person during that time, but there was no acknowledgement or apology for doing that or the ridiculously long wait time. Instead, the cashier just went to the back and seemed to hide, knowing that we had been waiting for so long. Additionally, they were wearing their mask around their neck which is a no-no normally, but absolutely not acceptable when you work in a food service establishment. Overall, while the food was tasty, the service definitely needs to be improved for the price they charge.

First time eating at this awesome vegan restaurant that seems to focus on vegan comfort foods and it was all delicious. We were a group of eight hungry people so all together I think we tried most of the menu. Service was kind and welcoming. Most impressive, to me, was that one of the owners (get this!?) created a new menu item because my wife has so many food allergies. My wife had a great dinner, and they have soda she can drink even, which was a bonus. There aren't many places my wife can safely eat. We'll be back. A+ food and service.

Pretty good vegan fast food in a takeaway only model. Menu offerings were fairly predictable and not all that creative, but there were some highlights: —Nice Buffalo cauliflower and excellent ranch dressing. —Nice Beyond Double cheese burger. Cooked perfectly and a great vegan cheese. —Nice Mac and cheese burger Overall, this is vegan fast casual. And it fits the bill if that’s your thing. For what they are trying to do, they do it pretty well.

Had tried this place a few days ago and it was good. I had the fiesta burger and the booling buffalo wrap. This was my first time trying to cauliflower and I wasnt a fan lol. The fries were good and so was the burger. My only issue is it tasted abit salty, but I still ate it because it was really good. I will definitely be coming back to try more

This place is amazing!!! Got the big combination plate and the mac and cheese was so good, a second bowl was ordered! The collard greens are well spiced and tender, corn bread is on point and the sweet potatoes are great as well. So sad I was just here for a visit because the rest of the menu looked great too and now I'll be craving the Mac and cheese all the way in Denver. Seriously one of the best vegan places in the US.

I can't remember if I've already left a review under another account, but if so -- Trio deserves the whole 10 stars. I really love this place, for a few reasons. First: it is a driving force of social good in our local community, black-owned and values-driven. They have supported the community with food and thoughtful presence in tough times. I also think there's a lot to be said for the fact that I don't live a vegan lifestyle but find the the Trio menu to be so unique, universally delicious and accessible enough in its options that new or non-vegans like myself can keep coming back. I can't think of another vegan restaurant that I frequently crave takeout from (except maybe Vegan East down the street...a collab would be a dream). I look forward to supporting them / ordering more in the future, and possibly trying new menu options as they come out!

I ordered the Cauliflower Wings (buffalo), Classic Cheeseburger, the Soul Bowl, and the Taco Trio as take-out. I ordered while at the restaurant and enjoyed tea as I waited for my order. The restaurant was clean and bright and my server was attentive even though my order was take-out. I ate these meals over a 2-day period of time. I was a bit concerned that the flavor, consistency or freshness would be compromised but they were not. Every dish was flavor-filled and delish, even on day two! I highly recommend Trio for a delicious plant-based meal.

I've been here to dine in twice now (before the pandemic), and each time was absolutely delicious. They have a great amount of gluten free options (including gluten free mac and cheese, which I love!). The last time I came here, I ordered a vegan burger and I swear it tasted just like a regular burger! So good. Not only that, but the servers have always been super kind. Would 10/10 recommend this place for vegans and non-vegans alike! A little spendy, but worth it, in my opinion.

The food was AMAZING! I had a grilled cheeze sandwich that looked and tasted just like grilled cheese. The texture was 100% like cheese. Another member of my group had corn bread and a sweet potato side that was spectacular! The third member of my group has a nut allergy and they handled it extremely well. She had the BBQ “ribs”, even though it looked small it was very filling. The reason why I give this place four stars and not five is because even though the food was great my options felt limited. I think I should point that none of the members of my group are vegan and we still enjoyed the food. You should check the place out.

UPDATED. First of all, they clearly have good food! I'm a foodie who values great food and a good experience. My first experience was all bad. I drove across town just to try their food. I'd checked Google and called just to verify, and they said they were open till 7:00 p.m. I arrived at 6:15 to find they actually stop taking orders at 6:00, which means that's their actual closing time! I wasn't the only one walking away frustrated and disappointed. No one likes to have their time wasted! So it's bewildering why they won't just post their actual open hours. My second experience was better. I got food! :-D They still say they're open till 7 p.m. when they're not, but I knew from before so we ordered before 6 p.m. The wait was twice what they said, but it was a beautiful day waiting on the sidewalk, so no worries. The problem was that our 2 orders came out more than half an hour apart, and the first order had nachos in it. The other stuff reheated fine, but the nachos had become a same-temperature mush with soggy chips and wet lettuce that was not super appetizing even though it was flavorful. Apart from that, the other 4 items were excellent (and the nachos would have been if they were fresh). They really make some tasty vegan food with quality ingredients. It's the bad experience part that lowered my rating. I hope to have more good experiences at this place, and increase my rating accordingly, but I've have to be honest. All that said, I do intend to go there again and have more of their food. AND I DO RECOMMEND THEM!! Just be mindful of what I've mentioned. And beyond being vegan and soul food, it really is just really good food!

Great food when the order is correct. Got food from here yesterday and while my order was correct, my wife's burger ended up being a weird mix of two different ones. She ordered the classic double burger with no onion or tomato. What she got was a bbq pit burger with two patties and no onion ring. The receipt on the bag showed the correct order, so we didn't realize this mix up until we got home. Almost an hour of driving/waiting and $15 down the drain for a burger covered in condiments she dislikes making it inedible. No clue how this mix up happened, but it is disappointing. Be sure to check your order before you leave.

Things happen. The food is really good; well seasoned and you couldn't even tell that they were meat substitutes. Very filling and pretty good portions. However, we waited two hours for our food, and it was a pick-up order so we ended up waiting outside the restaurant for approximately 40 of those minutes, after we'd gotten the notification that it was ready. When we finally received the food, one of the orders was wrong. Most of the staff were really nice about it, one wasn't. We didn't receive any compensation for the wait/messed up order. We would go again but probably just when it reopens for dining in.

This is a favorite spot to meet up with non vegan and vegan friends alike. I think they recently changed their menu and added more burgers and sandwiches. I had the bbq pit beyond burger and thought it was delicious. Their fries are also very addictive. The one downside was the service, it seemed a little bit slow and inattentive despite it not being a busy day.

Let me just start off by saying... The food is INCREDIBLE. I had the Soul Bowl, which consisted of Mac and Cheese, collared greens, and cornbread. Extremely delicious, vegan comfort food. However, the service was less than stellar. We showed up at opening time on a Sunday and were met with a sign saying that that Trio wouldn't be opening for another hour and a half (but then ended up opening around 11:45), which was a minor irritation. We ended up taking our order to go due to an oncoming migraine, and while our server was very kind and understanding and a part of our order was missing despite specifically asking if the item was included and paying full price for our meal. I'll definitely return despite subpar service as the food was amazing and there are so few plant-based restaurants in the Twin Cities, but I wish that the service was up to the quality of the food.

My mom and I went to Trio with really high hopes based on the reviews we had heard. The food we had was very good but the service was not. Our food took over 1 hour to reach our table. After 15 minutes of waiting for our food, the server offered to give us free drinks. We thought it wasn't a long time to wait so declined the offer. The server came back several times to fill our water glasses while we waited but still never mentioned the delay of the food or explained what was happening. The table next to us was given a free dessert from the other server for their patience and their food was served before ours even though they arrived after we had already ordered our food. Eventually, the food came and was great. The portions were big and we enjoyed the food a lot. Our server gave us the bill (at full price) and once we asked about the long wait, she said she had planned to do the discount after we provided payment. She did give us a 20% discount but it was unfortunately not a great first meal here. The server also never seemed very apologetic about the wait and just said it happened to other tables too. It seems like this poor service was a fluke as the other reviews all show great service, but it was what we experienced. We will likely go back because we have a gift card and I hope the next experience reflects all the positive reviews for the restaurant.

The food at this place is good, and they seem to focus on vegan soul food options, thoughthey have burgers and chicken sandwiches too. Having been to a lot of vegan places, it's a little too... on the nose vegan... to sort of appeal to all kinds of people. Though the food is good enough for both vegans and non vegans to enjoy, the leaves on the wall as decoration sort of mark it as a place for vegans only, as does the green color scheme. Would go again, the wings were great!

Good vegan food is hard to find and as a Fair-weather vegetarian I've got to say everything I had was good. CheeZe dip was awesome, lemonade Grand, Mac n cheese pretty good, collard greens not for me but the wife loved them, meatless ribs (hard to say that out loud) very good and cooked to perfection. Hats off to this restaurant for taking the vegan leap! Will be back!

I was really excited to try Trio, but I ended up being disappointed. I had the chili mac, and while the chili was flavorful and had a great texture, the mac and cheese was lackluster. It wasn't cheesy or creamy, which was disappointing, and the noodles were really dry and sticky. Service was also really slow, so my family ended up getting their meals all at different times. I appreciate Trio's commitment to plant based food, and I am sure that there are better dishes than the chili mac, but overall I was underwhelmed.

Sunday afternoon meal was delicious. It's a nice cozy spot and the service was excellent. And the food - AMAZING. Vegan comfort food. I don't know anywhere else to get something like that. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant I knew I was with kindred spirits. The staff was friendly and knowledgable, and the decor was very nice. I felt like I was stepping out of the grimy salty snowy city and into a natural retreat. The food was great! There were a lot of options to choose from, and the menu is very explicit about food allergens. Their cheese substitutes are very flavorful without an aftertaste. This place is a great option for vegans as well as those who enjoy trying something new.

I have high hopes that this will develop into something more than it is. Decent selection of wonderful dishes, but many of them are so far pretty par. It feels like being served mostly commercially available vegan products, while I would love to see the restaurant focus more on finding signature dishes that are kitchen prepared and unique to them. It is probably the best place to go for southern style comfort food on a vegan diet.

We came here for the first time last night and were very impressed. We loved that this is a black own restaurant and it shows with there delicious menu. Our appetizer was forgotten and came after with no apology is discount offered. The “ribs” were more like rubbery meat loaf, cornbread was dry / burnt. I honestly cannot recommend Trio enough! My partner and I have tried almost everything on the menu and now the biggest problem we face is no longer deciding where to eat (because now we almost always agree on Trio) but which menu item we’ll be choosing. It takes us forever. Everything is TOO wonderful! One of the owners Sarah stopped by our table during one of our visits and was just the sweetest. We are so happy to be able to support plant based businesses like Trio here in the Twin Cities, and will be telling family and friends to do the same.

The atmosphere of Trio is very informal and the staff are so friendly and really want you to have a great experience. I went with a large group and we all shared our dishes. I really love the quesadilla, the BLT was pretty great, and the Mac and cheeze was definitely one of the better vegan Mac and cheezes I've had. We had to wait a while for the corn bread to be made but it was worth it. The maple butter was so amazing. Also their fries are amazing! They're almost like MacDonald's fries, but without the beef fat!

Prepare to forget all your preconceived notions about vegan food! Anyone who says you have to sacrifice flavor and richness has never eaten at Trio Plant-based. That's a fact. I am new to a plant based diet and I will tell you that the food here is not just great "vegan" food, it is great FOOD, period. I would be eating food from Trio even if I wasn't vegan. Not sure how they do it, maybe magic dust, but they have the secret formula. Get some!

I can’t say I enjoyed the food very much. My husband had their burger and fries which were extremely salty. I had lasagna which was good but also in my opinion overpriced $20. Wasn’t a fan of their ribs. There is some cheapness to the whole interior. Don’t think I will be coming back here. That said staff was super nice, our server was fantastic and very friendly. Compared to say J Selby’s (another vegan place in St. Paul) this place isn’t at all worth the money in my opinion.

Seriously flavorful and amazing soul food. The house chocolate chip cookie is huge, as big as a round cake and one of the best vegan chocolate chip cookies I've had. The vanilla cake is soo good with strawberries. The soul bowl with bbq jack fruit is sweet, savory and barbequey. I couldn't finish my soul bowl, it is filling with corn, mac n cheeze, cooked greens and jackfruit. I will definitely coming back. This was my second time getting food from Trio. The cauliflower wings are delicious with lemon pepper (mild spice level). Lots of dipping sauces.

I had the buffalo Mac and WOWWW best vegan Mac I’ve had in this state! I also got the jackfruit fries which were good but the quality of the fries were not great.. thin and no flavor. I finally decided to try this place after seeing it mentioned on Instagram. Although I eat a pescatarian diet, I appreciate a good vegan meal (I often say that I could easily eat Vegan except for my love of sushi and cheese. Not a big fan of vegan cheese, or so I thought.) I ordered the Soul Food Plate with ribs, mac and cheese, and greens. I also ordered a side of yams and another side of greens to eat with another protein later. Let me start with the star for me....the mac and cheese. Since I've never enjoyed vegan cheese, this was a gamble. The flavor was wonderful and the only negative was that I didn't have more. As this was a Black owned establishment that served soul food, I had high expectations for the bbq. I knew what the texture and taste of jackfruit was and although it is not a favorite, I just knew that the BBQ sauce would take it to another level. I was very disappointed in the ribs because the sauce was pretty blah, as if was straight from a bottle. Now if the jackfruit was shredded with this sauce on a bun, it may be an enjoyable "BBQ beef" sandwich. The biggest disappointment was the greens. They looked and smelled awesome but after I took the first bite, I couldn't taste anything else because they were SO spicy. As a person who has a cabinet full of hot sauce, chilli sauces and the like, the spice level on the greens even for me was too much. I really want to believe that maybe it was a bad batch and I would like to try again because before my taste buds melted there were some really nice flavors in the greens. I will update my review after I try the yams but if for no other reason, I will return for the Mac and cheese.

The portion sizes are a bit smaller for the price, but at the same time it’s kind of nice because you don’t feel like you have to eat a ton. Overall good! The menu here isn’t large, so not a huge variety. The collards have a rich complex flavor, much better than most I’ve had in Minneapolis. Cornbread is also good. I think you may have to be a pretty serious vegan to get into the mac and cheez, it isn’t bad but it didn’t really compare to the real thing. Though the ambiance is clean and pleasant it is really echoey. They could use some soft furnishings or drapes.

Awesome food but every time I went in there was something wrong. One time I went in and it took almost an hour and a half to receive my order. Apparently, there was only one chef that day and she was brand new... And it was a weekend. I wonder how did that slip under the managment's radar. Then the next time I went in, we were told at the front they were literally out of everything on the menu besides maybe four or so options. Didn't stay after that. Once all those little things get fixed up then the place will be back to being awesome but after what I saw, it was Nice Food If You Can Get It.

I ordered the cauliflower wings which from the menu description said they were “tossed in your choice of sauce” only to open my box and see that there was no sauce on the wings, but two little cups with almost no sauce in them. I ordered the BBQ sriracha sauce flavor and the sauce wasn’t tossed on the wings and it wasn’t even a BBQ sriracha sauce, it was one cup with BBQ sauce and one cup with sriracha sauce. I found that to be misleading, I thought I’d be getting a signature BBQ sriracha sauce tossed on wings, not BBQ and sriracha sauce in separate containers with plain wings.

Upon walking in, the decor is clean and contemporary and there is a sunny, cozy vibe. Our server was very friendly and checked back often. We ordered the quesadilla and lettuce wraps. The food was excellent: flavorful and fresh. Small suggestion: the lettuce wraps came with a small ramakin containing the filling along with the lettuce leaves, maybe add more to this? Plant. Based. Soul. Food. Really, what more needs to be said? This restaurant scratched an itch I didn't know I had. Growing up eating my great grandmothers mac and cheese, fried chicken, dumplings, collard greens, and potatoes there's something about that down home cooking that is elusive when you're trying to maintain a plant-based diet. Trio comes as close as I've had since making the switch to vegan at capturing that grandma goodness, and that is high praise.

I love and support any and all new plant based resties in town, but i also feel like honest reviews can only help them get better so... Pros: -Light, open atmosphere -Very clear, easy to read and attractive menu -Not too many choices -Cornbread w maple butter yessss -BBQ sauce -They have PERFECTED that Taco Bell seasoned sour cream chikn quesadilla filling thing -Friendly & cool staff Cons: -Cost: for three people to try three dishes and two desserts and one soda it was over $36/person including tip. While the portions were generous, for the style of food, service and atmosphere (what i would consider fast casual) this is too much. I can share multiple plates w friends and have a cocktail at many fine dining restaurants in town for this price. Its hard to tell where this pricing comes from because there doesnt seem to be heavy use of expensive things (brand name products, expensive nuts etc). I do know that choosing to get all the options on the soul food plate drives up the price. But again... were talking greens, cornmeal, seitan, sweet potatoes, these are not expensive foods. Maybe theres a lot of add on prices for burger toppings? - the quesadilla was SO good inside but soggy outside. Quesadillas must be crispy! -mac n cheese was mostly mustard flavor -sweet potatoes had looooots of added sugar and too much cinnamon to the point of bitterness -strawb cake has defrosted strawberries on top? Which is a soggy gross texture. Fresh or compote or nothing would be better. Cake was dense and dry -peach cobbler was good but its so hot when they put the whipped cream on it that it just melts into a weird puddle. Ice cream or nothing would be better. -staff seems a little green and this overall is also what gives it a fast casual vibe. Again, this isnt bad, but the price point does not reflect it. Conclusion: i would go back for the quesadilla but probably wont try it again for a while due to the hit or miss dishes and the price point. If you want a decent quick casual vegan meal it hits the marks. If you want value for your money and something you couldnt make at home fairly easily and inexpensively, its not quite there. I wish them the best!!!

GET THE SOUL FOOD PLATTER!!! The greens are SO flavorful and I was pleasantly delighted when the bowl would not end, as it was deep. I wanted to keep eating the greens until I’d die! Especially building a bite with the greens plus the mac and cheeze... That’s the money bite! The mac and cheeze has such a creamy texture and is incredibly savory, like an aged cheddar. Impressive! The ribs are sourced from America’s first vegan butcher shop, Minneapolis’ own The Herbivorous Butcher. But the tangy, smoky, appley BBQ is all Trio. Together, these tender bites melt in your mouth. I should’ve got two! And that maple butter cornbread was EXCELLENT! It provided a nice bit of sweet to balance all that savory and playful acidity. And as if I needed more —my belt said no but my heart said YES!— I took the full tour and topped it all of with some Harriet’s Escape vegan peach cobbler. The crust is everything and just the perfect amount of sweetness. And if it weren’t for a giant cup of delicious coffee I might’ve just slept there, in heavenly bliss. ♥️

Not only do I love the food, I love that the owners are actually working in the restaurant, I’ve gotten to meet the owners and meet the nice lady who makes the peach cobbler pie that’s on the menu.
