7/15/2022 Friday afternoon. My wife and I stopped for drinks and appetizers. Every chair in the place was reserved. We sat at the bar. There were even bar stools reserved. Must get really busy later in the evening. We ordered a rye whisky sour and a flight of bourbon. Both were quite tasty. Our food was an order of Parmesan fries, and a brand new menu item just added as we we having our drinks. “Lamb Sliders” 2 per order. Haven’t eaten much lamb in my life, but, those little devils were really tasty.

The sample room is such a cozy spot a little spot, ample parking right in front and outdoor seating for when the weather is nicer. I went on Friday even with reservations and sat immediately. The servers were so sweet and attentive. Booth along the walls, high tops in the center and a mix of tables, nicely spaced out for some privacy even for a busy Friday evening. I ordered the Bottineau Burger, came with a side of fries and homemade ketchup. The burger was amazing something I would definitely write home about, it was juicy and flavorful the pork belly topping added even more flavor, it was a great combination of flavors- definitely would go back for the burger. The hand cut fries were delicious. A great low key date night spot with good food.

Met a couple for drinks and dinner at The Sample Room. We shared the Amusement Board as a starter. It was great and just the right amount for four of us. I tried the Shrimp and Grits which was very good and would definitely order again. My wife had the Jalapeño Braised Beef Cheek which was incredibly tender. Would definitely visit again.

Our waiter Richard was great! You'll have to ask him about who Annie is when you see him. The food was spot on. The Amusement Board offered a sampling of tasty treats that was the start to a perfect introduction to the Cuban sandwich. Accompanied by the ginger vodka cocktail, it was the perfect evening out with a friend.

The food was delicious...get the fries to share. The drinks were a little bit or miss. But for sure, the ginger Lemonhead was fantastic. The service was good and the staff amazing. It's right by the river and has great vibes overall.

We had a wonderful experience at the Sample Room. It was so hard to choose what to order! We had the Smoked Trout Croquette, Flank State entree, and the Cuban. All were delicious. They were out of a few dishes at that point in the night so will have to go back soon to try those! I thought the dishes and cocktails were all well priced, brought out at a good pace and the server was very nice.

I don't have enough positive things to say. I've been here to celebrate my birthday, to "pre-game" before a night out, to catch up with a friend... you name it. Every time, this place delivers. It's unpretentious, but the food is amazing. The menu is consistently changing, which I LOVE. The service has always been so personal. Check it out if you haven't been.

I almost hesitate to write a review for this place, because my friends and I use it as one of our go-tos and appreciate that most nights we can still walk in. However, it would be a crime to the place not to let everyone know how wonderful it is. Everything from the ambiance and the staff to the cocktails and food are incredible. They have super tasty staples for those who want consistency (my friends swear their burger is even better than Parlour's), but I especially love their rotating / seasonal dishes. They're so creative and often have a local twist. The prices are so reasonable given the quality and complexity of the food. The cocktails are just as creative and tasty as the food (being a gin person, the ginger Lemonhead and devils haircut are my personal favorites). The place itself is small and cozy, featuring lots of wood and leather, giving off old English pub vibes. If I could eat here every week, I would. Don't pass up on it if you get a chance.

The location of the building itself is very unique, and feels like it has the entire block to itself. The décor and set up inside were very nice, but because the weather wasn't that great, the place was darker than my coworkers and I would have cared for (which is the reason for the four-star rating). I got the Bottineau Burger (which was solid, but I wish there was a bigger slab of pork belly than the small piece that was on it), and my coworkers got the BLT, and the cheese platter. I don't know what it was, but I think there was also a tomato jam that was used in the BLT, which definitely took it to another level. The cheese platter was nice, and what you would expect--nothing too crazy, and no surprises.

After a couple of years of driving by and saying we've got to check out this place, we finally visited last night. We're kicking ourselves for not coming sooner. An eclectic menu that is well executed. I went with their burger and was impressed with the flavor (they add pork belly to the grind mix) and the fact their bun held up well. The fries are some of the best I've had in the cities. My wife had shrimp & grits and they were terrific. (We lived in North Carolina for 12 years so we know good S&G ) The shrimp was cooked perfectly. On top of the great food, the service was very good. Richard, at the bar, was friendly and informative. We're coming back and bringing friemds!

Really good food. Menu has new specials weekly and has other changes seasonally. Always something good to eat. Richard, Ryen, and Jay are all terrific bartenders that know how to make some tasty drinks. My favorite is the Vodka Lemonade.

This is definitely my favorite place in the cities! Amazing service, great cocktails (I love the beet shrub ones), and food is on point. Love the reasonable prices and variety of dishes with amazing flavors and yet simple! Head chef Ashley is amazing. Server Mara is so thoughtful and accommodating. I take all of my out of town guests here and they want to come back every time they visit (plus then I get to try more things).

Amaro flight: drinking a tarot deck. If Sample Room, then cinematic gastronony... spliced celluloid, lions manes, a quick trip to Sicily then a prairie warehouse. Spent my 'lunch stake'. Get a reservation or you may have to dinner party with me at the bar.

Great spot for small plates. Went for lunch. I had the fried goat cheese and a slice of meatloaf. Both were excellent. Service was great. They have a nice outdoor area as well. I will be back for Happy Hour 3 - 6 pm!

Great Sunday brunch menu. Superb service. Pictured here is the Fried chicken egg Benedict and hash brown with cheddar cheese. The hollandaise sauce was delightful. Chicken was tender and breaded perfectly. I’m excited to try everything on the menu!!

We wanted to try the menu and we were not disappointed, the popcorn with bacon fat and truffle oil was packed with flavor and tasty. We also got an order of the cheese curds, they were very tasty with a little siracha flavor. Heat was minimal. The “Nordeast Fish N Chips” was very tasty. The fries were top notch and the fish was flaky and moist and the batter was crunchy and crisp. I would recommend asking for an extra serving of the tarter sauce as they smear the plate with it but more is always better. 😁

This place is fantastic, truly. Waitstaff are on their game (and stylish), the food is superb, and the drink selections definitely satisfy. If there's anything I take issue with, it would be that some of the cocktails are just a little too boozy to have much depth of flavor and are a bit disappointing. Also, I was sad to see the elk burger taken off the menu in lieu of an olive lamb burger, but that's just me. My fiancee and I have come twice before and we intend to come again!

The Sample Room is well named. It's an excellent venue for sampling unique and very original creations or well crafted variations on old favorites. The perfect place for familiar fare and adventurous diners! The Sample Room should be on your A list!

Yesterday I had my 1st visit ever here. My friend & I asked staff to surprise us with tapas sized varieties of fare, while we enjoyed a few craft beers & discussed business. Without a doubt, I will be back here, and I'll be bringing friends! Next on the "must haves" is a mushroom centric plate, and the brazed pigs head!!

The Bottineau Burger is amazing. Homemade ketchup is perfection. Amusement Board had a wide variety of delicacies to sample; cheese, olives, pickles vegetables' fruit, with crackers and bread with an earthy, coarse mustard. Hubby had Elk Burger which was mind blowing. Incredible service, laid back vibe. Staff was great!!!!!!! I'll be spending more time here.

Great cozy, local spot with outdoor seating, conveniently situated smack dab between Psycho Suzi's and Betty Danger's. Friendly, knowledgeable service and frequently changing menu. On this most recent visit, the menu was a little odd -- it was full of pine honey and mushrooms. Like, everywhere. The clam strips were great, we actually ordered them twice. The mushroom cakes tasted strongly of red pepper, overshadowing any mushroom flavor. The trout was cooked beautifully, but sat atop a mushroom risotto that was laced with honey, giving it an almost Teriyaki kind of flavor. It wasn't the most successful dish in my opinion, and if you order this you'd do best to stick to it rather than nibble between it and something else, it would have been jarring, flavor wise. The mushroom pull aparts, while very tasty (although slightly underdone in the centers) also suffered from strong flavors -- this time garlic and goat cheese -- overshadowing the mushrooms. The creme brulee (drizzled with pine honey) was flavorful, but the custard was slightly broken. Overall, the dishes were inventive and tasty, just lacking in either balance or execution. Also, note that if you haven't been here recently, the entrance is now on the south side of the building, about halfway down the tent, through an unmarked black curtain. It's awkward to find in the dark so just an FYI!

I was really impressed with the happy hour menu. The prices and quality of ingredients and preparation were almost astounding. Our server was knowledgeable and read the table well--providing solid service on a busy night. You can really tell that the chef(s) here care about the dishes and have some talent. Will have to be back to try the cocktails. One of the best dining expierences of the year for me for sure--a simple date night ending in full bellies and big smiles.

Parking may be a challenge as I did not find a designated parking lot for this establishment. I parked on the side of the road. Cocktails are great, wine flight not bad, and food is good. I would certainly return and recommend this to anyone that is visiting from out of town or a local. Service was friendly and attentive. A good date spot

Small plates, a nice selection of wine flights. Two plates we tried were salmon with shaved Brussels sprouts with bacon and an attentively spicy blue cheese grits shrimp bowl. Splitting these two made a fun date. The room is intimate and tightly packed. The happy hour menu looked nice.

The Sample Room is an experience. Unique, creative, 5 star food in a fantastic atmosphere. I've been here multiple times and have never once been disappointed. Their specials are always something incredible and "here today, gone tomorrow" type specials, highly recommend trying one while you're there. The New Years 7 course meal was something I'll never forget, a true dining experience. If you have the chance to eat here, don't pass it up!

The platter was delicious and it was fun to have a flight of wine (instead of the typical flight of beer)! This is my "go to" place for GOOD food. Fresh, handmade and creative. The current executive chef, Ashley Estrada is awesome. Everything we had was delicious and beautifully prepared. That woman can cook a steak!!! The atmosphere is relaxing, but with an up beat vibe!

Impressive ambiance when you walk through the door which builds as you find your seat and see the detail in design. I love the concept of the flights, and if you would just like to have an alcohol flight (which I did, and enjoyed) then this is the spot for you. If you are looking for getting a cocktail after that, I would recommend going elsewhere. Or if you want to get food to enjoy with your flight, don't have too high of expectations. It's definitely better than any chain restaurant (for food, not drinks). But if you are looking for a nice meal, to enjoy with someone, or a quick bite by yourself, there are many places that are far better. Especially for the price. I wanted to like this place, but was really let down, and underwhelmed by the food and service. Aside from who I presumed what the manager/gm who was a kind gentleman who visited our table more than our server to ensure we were enjoying the drinks and meal. He even brought us our drinks. When we wanted to order our next round and looked for our server, she was no where in sight. Heck, we even emptied our water glasses waiting.

Haven't been for a while and was a little disappointed Not bad but not great The cheese plate was really good and the jerky was amazing. The main courses (ribs and fried chicken) were okay... warm but not hot. Ribs had more flavor but chicken had a thick breading with little flavor.

I stubbled upon this place after moving to the neighborhood. The atmosphere was amazing the menu was extensive. The service was friendly. My meal was delicious. The portions are small but they are very reasonably priced. I did not try any cocktails but I can only assume that they would be made with the same care as their dishes. If you are looking for an amazing meal at an affordable price, do not pass The Sample Room.

I've gone to the Sample Room a lot as I used to live right up the road. The food is always great so if you're simply looking for an excellent and adventurous food experience, look no further. The staff is friendly and professional. My qualms with the SR is its weak tap list and price to entry if you order from their menu as intended. Ordering multiple small plates to share gets extremely expensive very quick. They did add more bar food options (a delicious chicken sandwich, burger, and reuben, etc.) that have brought me back more regularly.

Cozy neighborhood spot With fantastic cocktails and small-plate offerings. loved the Cajun shrimp and grits, the charcuterie plate was worth every penny. waitress informed us that the whole menu switches up frequently. My wife and I and a couple neighborhood friends look for a new spot to eat before we go see the Walker British Arrow Awards every year. This place fit the bill perfectly. Handsome woodwork, dimly lit, not too noisy, found a comfy booth, memorable night.

The atmosphere was very chill and relaxing. Jay was our tour guide for the evening and ordered everything for us which was a great surprise! We were not disappointed with anything! We found the food excellent and the service by our waiter, Nick, exceptional. He was helpful and attentive, without being invasive, and went out of his way to accommodate the needs of our 95-year-old cousin. I don't know how it is when it's busy, but the quiet, laid-back ambiance when we were there was great. We've add it to our list of favorite restaurants.

I can't believe I didn't know about this place for so long, what a treasure! The inside is gorgeous and cozy with aluminum stamped ceilings and tasteful wallpaper. The food itself was to die for, we split four different dishes and they were all incredible. I got a wine flight to accompany the meal and it was all so perfect, and for a surprisingly affordable price tag for the experience and quality. Can't recommend enough!

This is one of my favorite hidden gems around Minneapolis. The atmosphere is really dark and relaxing. This is a perfect date night place. The food is offered in small shareable size plates. You want to order around 2 items for each person. The cocktails are also top notch. I’ve always enjoyed great service when I’ve gone here. I’d give it more than five stars if I could!

I would give it 6/5 stars if I could. Went for a special occasion and could not be more thrilled with the choice of drinks, delicious savory food, and wonderful dessert. Thank you, Nick, for the incredible and personal service. We had a great time! Candles and fun music make it a place for a formal, yet far more relaxed dinner anyone can enjoy if you’re looking for great food and something unique. I would recommend trying the best sounding option for you on each category of their samples. What an amazing spot!

Cute place with a nice atmosphere and small patio. The wine was good, and they offer flights. The food was just ok. I had a salad, and the combination of foods/tastes was a bit strange. Price was as expected. Big drawback: no AC on a very hot day. Miserable! If I go back, it won't be til fall.

We often go to the Sample Room for special occasions. We're still able to catch it at quiet times later at night, but over the last two years they've become pretty popular and busy in the evenings. In any case, the food is spectacular and you always get huge variety (you order many smaller servings and share) and the drink menu is great. The staff are always super friendly and there's a nice, cozy atmosphere, too.

It was our last night in the area and we were hoping to find some "real" food after being subjected to over priced, and poorly executed meals near the Mall of America. We were lucky enough to find parking next to Sample Room and hoped we they would have an acceptable menu. We were pleasantly surprised at the unique setting, tasty beer, cheerful and friendly staff and the most delicious meal of our trip.The fried chicken is to die for! The chicken was moist and succulent and the breading light and perfectly seasoned. The hot sauce was too hot for our taste, but the ranch type dressing was perfect, and went great with our fries. We also ordered the meatloaf and salade greens with vinaigrette. Very yummy and filling. Love your "sample plate" concept. When we are in town again, we would love to share the experience with friends/family. Whishing you much sucess!😁

Food was ok, service was mediocre. Server got my drink order wrong, and never bothered to tell us what the specials were. Meatloaf was drenched in a sauce but really was Ketchup. Atmosphere was ok. Cramped and very loud. Hard to hold a conversation. On the positive, the corn cakes were delicious, as was the caesar side salad and burger. Overall, we'll probably go back.

Mondays are half price for bottles of wine. The smoked trout spread was exceptional with the Montepulciano d'abruzzo wine. My friend and I each ordered the ceasar salad. I enjoyed the salmon and she liked the chicken very much. The wait staff was knowledgeable and engaging. Saw this place on Esquires "Best Bars in America" Minneapolis episode. Always wanted to try this place and that was the reason my girlfriend and I went. Excellent small plates food. We had Octopus, the Charcuterie and the Philly cheesesteak. All were fantastic, the Octopus was delicious. Had a couple cocktails too, which were great and they also have a nice beer selection. Service was outstanding, you could really tell the employees cared about their jobs/food/drinks. Will go again soon!

Went for the 1st time- did not know know what to expect. Cute small place but a bit understaffed. Only noticed two servers on Saturday night at 8:00. Ordered a salad, cheese plates, and my friends ordered some main dishes. The salad was pretty good but the cheese was AMAZING and worth every second we waited for it. If you love cheese, you must come and try the gooey, warm, and ever so tasty cheese plates ( I had goat cheese). My friends said that pasta was good but cold and everyone loved the vegetable torte and pork belly plate. Would go back again for apps and happy hour- not dinner.

My boyfriend and I stopped in the Sample Room for lunch and drinks yesterday for the first time and it was incredible. The Cello Flight was great (we loved the Orange and Lemon, not so much the walnut, but others might like it)....the Octopus appetizer was incredible, as was the short rib philly. OUTSTANDING. The Charcuterie plate was great too - except we weren't fans of the chicken liver (just a personal preference, not to say the liver itself was bad). Don't miss out - our bartender Aaron was great too and we were able to talk to the head chef as well - very local!

I had that thought of "well, I definitely could have made that for myself." The portion & prices for the lunch menu were acceptable. I don't think I'll be going back for lunch but I would like to try their dinner menu. In their defense: I ordered from the lunch menu and I only eat fish - no pork, beef, or chicken, so there was not many things offered that I could order without being a pain in the butt and ask for substitutions - I ate the egg sandwich and caesar salad... "meh"

The problem with the Sample Room is that there are so many enticing options on the menu, you'll order more food than you can possibly eat. We visited after seeing the Sample Room featured on Esquire Network's Best Bars in America. Although we abstained from the half pig's head (which was featured on the show), we filled ourselves with their delicious cocktails, wonderful appetizers, and well thought meats. As an added bonus, it's right down the street from Psycho Suzie's, also featured on Esquire. Two places, one Uber drive!
