Reviews of The Buttered Tin- Northeast Minneapolis
I love this place! They include a 20% surcharge, so there’s no need to tip!
The breakfast sandwich is superb! Very tasty. Great coffee and desserts. Pancakes come with maple bacon butter!
The food was absolutely stellar! The cinnamon rolls were melt in your mouth, and the coffee was full and flavorful. Even with it being an order at the counter place,. The staff member that helped us out was attentive throughout the experience and was all smiles and good attitude! Overall if I could give a higher rating I would!
Everything was amazing! Thoroughly impressed- the cinnamon rolls are like a hybrid caramel roll, super sweet with soft chewy centers, the biscuits and gravy were super flavor packed and savory- the poached eggs went well with the dish! Friends had the Pierogi Sausage and Eggs and The Grain Belt breakfast and both loved their meals! You order at the counter before sitting and bring the number to the table so it’s semi self serve but allows for things to move quicker for the staff and for you to choose your spot!
First, it’s expensive for a breakfast. The forced 20% tip won’t sit well with some. Once you’re past the price and ready to eat, on with the review.
The Buttered Tin is in a great location at the foot of the Lowry bridge. Easy to get to, easy to access. It’s counter service, so you walk in and the menu is up behind the cash registers. It’s a LOT to read, so be ready.
Everything we tried was delicious. I’d bet everything on the menu is delicious.
From the other reviews, I knew to get the cinnamon roll. It was phenomenal. I’ll be going back just for the roll. It’s a meal by itself. But I wanted to do a review, so I also got a meal.
My daughter loved her Grain Belt Breakfast. With Polish sausage from Kramarczuk’s, how can you go wrong?
I had the Buttered Tin pancakes. You get 3 massive pancakes with some fruit. They are thick and fluffy. You need a LOT of syrup, so ask for another small syrup when you get it. The pancakes are okay by themselves with the butter, but once the syrup was added, fantastic. I couldn’t finish all 3, but that was because I had the cinnamon roll.
I may not be back as often as I’d like to, because it is pricey for me, but I’d like to try everything on the menu eventually.
I’ll certainly be back for the cinnamon roll.
Thanks for the great meal!
Cinnamon roll with cream cheese frosting is amazing, best one I’ve ever tried. Smothered burrito is fulfilling. Porchetta sandwich is okay, not recommending it. Busy place for Saturday brunch. Fast service but tables and booths need to be cleaner.
Really good! They have the best cinnamon rolls!!! Great coffee! The buttered tin hash was flavorsome. Salmon was cooked right and the toast with the jam was yummy. Service was also quick. Thank you!
Very good food, spacious, pleasant atmosphere for breakfast/lunch. Can dine in or take out. Hot chocolate was meh, but the food is always pretty amazing. Definitely on the more expensive side, but still very good and worth a visit. Staff is super friendly and quick.
Fun environment and great food. Wife had the Huevos Rancheros Benedict and I had the Grain Belt Breakfast. We both felt like we won.
We also had the cinnamon roll.
We stopped here for breakfast after going to the Minneapolis farmers market. When we got there, it was not super busy, and we were able to order our food right away. I ordered the Peirogis, Sausage and Eggs. The Peirogis were cooked wonderfully crisp on the outside, and had great potato filling inside, and went great with the sausage from Kramarczuk's Polish sausage. I ordered my eggs over medium, and they were pretty close.
My wife had the Huevos Rancheros Benedict. She thought it was ok, but had to send it back to be redone as the poached eggs were cooked hard. She said the flavors were good, but did not love the cornbread as it got too soggy and did not add a lot to the dish. She did like the salad that came with it, as it added a little balance of freshness to the dish.
We did order the mimosa flight, which was fun. We really enjoyed the lavender lemon version. Going to try to make that at home!
We will return again to try some different items.
I wish we could give half stars. 3 is too low, but not feeling like this place is a solid 4 stars. 3.5 to 3.9 feels about right. Above average but not great.
Nice indoor space, clean and feels bright and fresh.
Wish there was outside seating though. It's such a nice day to be inside.
I ordered the loaded hash browns, flavor was good and well prepared, but not very loaded. Basically just a lot of potatoes. I like that they say they pay a living wage. $25 for hash browns, a few reens and coffee seems a bit steep.
The best cinnamon rolls! No kidding. Theirs are based on a butter rich dough that holds moisture better than any other and the layers are laden with a generous coating of cinnamon and frosting. They are spectacular! And their cappuccinos are well balanced with a pleasantly strong espresso flavor. They aren't just warm milk and foam with a hint of coffee. We're going back, often.🙂
Really good breakfast spot. Order at the counter and they’ll bring to your table (note, they confirm you’ll have a table prior to letting you order, which is nice).
Bakery items looked really tasty and fresh, and the coffee was a solid breakfast roast (with serve yourself refills). We will be back.
the buttered tin has officially come across the river and i am pretty sure i heard the folks in northeast rejoicing! this beautiful location is perfectly located and has plenty of seating, which is good news because it’s already busy! a must get is the caramel roll(omg, it’s amazing), but after that you really can’t go wrong! we stuck to the quick grab items bakery items and weren’t disappointed one bit! i am sure that the buttered tin will quickly become a neighborhood staple!
Bright, cheerful spot for good breakfast/brunch options. The huevos rancheros Benedict on cornbread was very good, although the eggs were overcooked.
Wonderful local fare! We were at an AirBnB up the road so this was perfectly located for an early weekend breakfast. DELICIOUS bakery sweets, savory meats, freshest ingredients, extensive menu for every taste including gluten-free and vegan options. There is no wait-staff, you order at the counter and seat yourself. Friendly, community atmosphere. Some folks balk at the gratuity, but I'm happy to pay a premium for service workers to make a living wage. If you're in NE Minneapolis go here now.
The cinnamon rolls are dreamy and the dirty, oat-milk chai was on point! I was a little disappointed that there were not a lot of vegetarian or vegan options, but there were at least some dishes on the menu that were veggie and tasty. The atmosphere had a chill vibe, perfect for a winter Sunday morning brunch. 😌
Worth checking out. Some stuff is exceotional, but some things seem overpriced. Coffee is not great.
The Loaded Hash Browns, Smothered Breakfast Burrito, and Maple Peach French Toast are phenomenal.
The Grain Belt Breakfast and Pierogis, Eggs & Sausage are pretty good.
The Biscuits and Gravy are okay at best.
I’ve been to this location twice for breakfast and both times were a great experience. Service was fast and food hit the spot. I love breakfast sandwiches so I’ve had their biscuit sandwich and damn good egg sandwich, I will 100% be back for both. One downside is parking is difficult. I haven’t been able to find any kind of public parking (even paid) aside from the street, but maybe I’m just missing it.
The Cheddar and thyme biscuit was exceptional. Not dry. Not too seasoned or buttery. Had a little crunch and a lovely bit of saltiness.
The bacon was a little crisp in the green belt breakfast.
Lovely welcoming place, wonderful desserts, excellent coffee and the tomato basil soup with tiny grilled cheese sandwiches in it, and the pozole with lime were spirit liftingly good. Staff are generous and kind—Buttered Tin is a balm in an anxious world. thank you!
The view of the Lowry bridge was outstanding very clean, new building.
Self serve at the counter.
Intriguing menu with some really good and unique choices.
It's a good spot, not great. Food was fine, not amazing. Long line to wait to place order. Not a place I'd rush back too but would go again to meet up with friends
Great breakfast spot!! Staff is amazing, great food, good atmosphere! All around great experience every time we visit.
If you love a good pancake like myself you’re at the right place. Everything about our meal was wonderful including the artwork!!!! Thanks for a great meal… I’ll be back👍🏼👏❤️
Really good food!!! Cute order to the counter style place. The coffee was really good and go place to meet up with someone to get caught up!
Huevos rancheros was really unique with cornbread bottom. Avocado toad was also delicious.
Great food! Great coffee! Great atmosphere! Will definitely be a new favorite place.
Went for breakfast on a Saturday morning.
Comfortable, well-lit space.
Great service. I had biscuits & gravy, hash browns, and a cinnamon roll. Everything was fantastic.
I love the fact that they're paying their staff a living wage and use a non-tipping model.
Great food and service. The menu differs from St Paul store.
Wow, we loved this place. The room was bright and spacious, the staff was warm and helpful, and the food everyone ordered was terrific. We had salads, soup and egg sandwiches for brunch, and a couple of desserts to share. We will definitely be back.
My new favorite spot! Food and service are always top notch! Both breakfast and lunch options I've tried have been great, can't go wrong with anything really. And grab a frosted caramel roll if they have any left, well worth the calories!!!
Have been to their STP location and this one did not disappoint!
I did an ala carte meal and it was still fabulous!
Have been to this location a few times and have always had great service and great food. Today I went and the workers lost my order in the shuffle. I notified them after waiting a bit too long for my food, but after that they had my dish made in 5 minutes! The manager, Vang, came over and personally apologized and offered me a free cinnamon roll to make it up to me. Service goes above and beyond and I will definitely be back because of it!
I’ve eaten MANY caramel rolls in my day. This was 100% absolutely without-a-doubt THE BEST caramel roll I’ve ever had. And with the cream cheese whipped frosting?? Goodnight. Just incredible.
Not bad. Very bright. Flowers on the walls (art) and fresh dingle flowers on the tables really pop with beauty...and tame the white. Music, not not too terribly loud..can enjoy, still. Thank goodness.
I had the walleye cakes Benedict & it was delicious. Food was fresh & staff was friendly. Locally sourced food is an added bonus. Definitely gives you those Minnesota feels.
Place is really good, food was fresh and the service team is kind! Don't be surprised if you're waiting in line for awhile, busy place!
Loud environment!!! Food was good, however, if you are bringing a younger eater, check their food before they dig in. My 12 y.o. got the loaded hashbrowns, which had some picked veg. on top. And the very first bite he ate was a hot pepper that I'm assuming was part of the pickling spices in the brine, whole thing, seeds and all, right in his mouth and started chewing. Long story short, about 15mins and 4 glasses of water later, he was able to try his food.
10/10 recommended!
It’s very quite and the service is friendly and efficient. The menu has so many great and diverse options that fits all kind of taste buds!
Breakfast was wholesome but not as great as some other locations around town. Bakery items are well worth the trip!
Visiting from out of town but I wish this place was back home cuz the food was on 10!! Biscuits and gravy was one of the best I've tasted. Ill be back asap!
Dined in. Just had to check out TBT location in NE. We love the St. Paul location and go there 3-4 times a month. Alicia has done a great job with both places.
Delicious food, friendly employees, quick service, great policy on gratuity. I'll be back.
Order at the counter, food is brought out to your table.
Good but won't be back. Eggs good..hash browns good..ordered sausage but got bacon..got one pancake and that was very good.. with the maple butter and syrup. The coffee drink was good too.Not a fan of counter service , the 20% gratuity add on or the noise level.
We went in this store to buy some bakery items from their retail counter. But you still have to pay the 20% "livable" wage surcharge, as you would if you were sitting down to eat and be served in the restaurant. Well, there's a ton of excellent bakeries in town that don't charge you extra to buy their baked goods retail - so that's where we'll shop from now on. I will say I might try their breakfast some day, where I'd be happy to pay for a tip.
Delicious! Easier parking that the st Paul location. You order and then sit down at a table. No tipping but they have 20% gratuity added to your order. Pretty big space and it's in a new building. Cinnamon roll was amazing, seriously maybe the best I have ever had.
Stopped here for a fairly large to go order. We got a variety of breakfast entrees, baked goods and coffee drinks. Food and drinks were uniformly excellent. Service was fast and friendly. Prices were reasonable.
Ordered Buttered Tin salad with the “house made cider vinaigrette dressing” - there was no dressing on the salad. Also ordered the tomato basil soup “served with grilled cheese croutons” which sounds very good - but there were no croutons. This was a pickup order, oh well.
Food is delicious. Scratch made and very high quality! There was a snafu on our order and an item we was not added to the ticket. After waiting for the item we asked when it would be out and the error was identified. The manager added the item and did not charge for it! Great food and great service.
My latte and food were out within 5 minutes. Ordered the pierogi, sausage, and eggs. Decent portion size, definitely enough to fill me up. Eggs were a bit undercooked, the sausage was something akin to kielbasa, and the pierogi were...odd. Never had pierogi quite like these before. But all things considered it was quick, tasty, and sufficient.
We will be back. Was able to get right in this morning for a later breakfast. Love how you order & they bring it out to you. Food came pretty fast for how busy they were. Super tasty and unique meals. Biscuits & gravy was so good. Staff who we placed orders with were not so friendly but the ladies who were grabbing plates off our table seemed sweet.
The food was great. Enjoyed eating in and at a newer place.
Heads up that this restaurant is counter service, which is fine except you have to be prepared to walk in and make a decision quick, which was kind of intimidating. I had the walleye cakes benedict and the benedicts were excellent but I wasn't especially impressed with the potatoes. Like, they were fine I guess but they just tasted like a LOT of rosemary and nothing else. My husband had the breakfast sandwich and he said it was good but it wasn't, like, the best thing in the world. I'd consider going back and trying some other items. Their bakery items looked good! Oh, and it's a cute little place.
Excellent food, tasteful variety of sweet and savory dishes, very friendly and inviting staff :)
The cinnamon roll is dreamy. Grab a window seat and get a beautiful view of the Lowry bridge. Relaxed vibe. My partner orders breakfast (thoughtful takes on comfort food) and I stick to my coffee and pastry. Great addition to NE.
A great place to eat with excellent food & service price is on the higher end but soo worth it come on people let's keep these great eating places open give them the business
I live in the neighborhood and I have eaten my way through most of The Buttered Tin's breakfast choices and you can't go wrong! The Grain Belt Breakfast and Hash Brown special are always good but I think the sneaky best thing may be the Biscuits and Gravy (with homemade biscuits of course). My only nitpick is they make a softer hash brown but just ask for it to be extra crispy and they will accommodate you. Love the space, plenty of windows and seating. Lots of places to park your car and bike in the front and there is a small lot behind the building.
My first experience here was great! Bright sunny space with a great view of the Lowry Bridge. All the food looked great and breakfast was served all day. Had avocado toast with an egg. Delish comfort food. Also super flavorful grain bowl. Prices reasonable. Next visit patties! NE location.
Had a delicious egg sandwich and peach french toast, everything on the menu sounds amazing! Tip is included with the price, novel idea👍
My friends and I had brunch at this spot and it was SOOOOO good! The lavender lemonade paired well with the TBT Muffaletta and that cinnamon roll is to die for 😍 This is a great spot for a quick brunch/lunch date or a quick pastry and coffee grab. I will definitely be returning!
Fun, bright breakfast/lunch spot. I had the walleye cake Benedict and it was an absolutely delicious dish. Everything prepared perfect. Nice people, too.
Underrated diner - we liked the quick ordering, fun atmosphere, self-serve coffee and the BEST cinnamon rolls! It’s really nice to go out for brunch on a Saturday and not wait an hour plus.
I'm going back! There are several things on the menu that I want to try. My friend and I both had the loaded hash browns with salmon, all I needed was a touch of hot sauce - clean plate club! Bakery choices, here I come.
Best Carmel rolls. Great service. Good coffee (decaff)
Salad was pretty good, service was great.
Had the Greek Chicken sandwich, it was delicious as was the side salad.
Great experience. Amazing food! I can’t wait to go back!
Picked up coffee beans for a gift and a sweet treat 😋. The young lady was very friendly.
Good food, coffee, and service. Would gladly go back.
The daily toast today was amazing. The granola on it had almonds, walnuts, coconut flakes, dehydrated raspberries, and mint. We also got the breakfast sandwich on the biscuit, which was delicious.
The food and coffee is as good, if not a little better, than the Saint Paul location. What sets this apart is the space, with large windows to look at the Lowry Bridge and passers by on Marshall. It’s a lovely addition to the Marshall Terrace neighborhood.
Adorable new place! The interior was so beautiful and the food was amazing. They had a large variety of non-meat options. I will be going back😁
Great spot! Love their breakfast, that Oreo cake they always have, and the biscuits. So glad there's a location so close to me now!
So very tasty! The service is great, and fast even on a busy Sun morning.
Totally worth the 20 minute drive for the fresh food, excellent service, and outdoor dining on the patio. Highly recommend this place!
Great food! Everything that we had there was really good. Definitely recommend trying this place out.
The food was delightful, and their cold press coffee is very strong. It feels very bright and airy, which I appreciated very much.
If you love things like buttermilk thyme biscuits, or appreciate local and organic you will love this place! And the lavender lemonade is amazing!
Great service. Great food. Kinda pricy. FYI 20% fee built in and no tips accepted.
Was ok felt like it was a little lacking on the flavor side
This place is the vibes. Great food, great atmosphere, great service, clean and feels like a super high end restaurant!!
Wow, the cinnamon roll was so good! Loved the damn good breakfast sandwich, too.
Delicious food, reasonably priced when you consider that they choose to pay their staff a living wage, so no need to tip.
Great place for baked goods, cupcakes and amazing entrees and breakfasts!
Great food great atmosphere.
Always great food and service!!
I'll be back. The walleye cake bennie was amazing.
Excellent service , had breakfast with my little daughter and food was exceptional. Great location.
My new favorite spot! Food and service are always top notch!
Very delicious food, with healthy options.
Imagine an unbuttered tin. Terrible.
Butter than tin? Amaze!
By far, the best breakfast in the Twin Cities. Love the new location!
Great family spot! Kiddo loved the caramel roll 🙌 …
One word? Amazing!
Top notch all around! Friendly staff. Great food!
Not bad but not great either. Good service.
