Reviews of The Beacon | Public House
Stopped in for a light lunch. Food was great, our waitress was great but she was all by herself and had a lot of tables…I had the beet salad and a hot tea. A little pricey but worth the splurge if you want something a bit fancier/healthy but don’t want to leave campus.
I visited here with a family member early one Sunday morning for breakfast. I was initially worried about the food because there was only one other table with people seated. However, the food was great. I had scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes and cranberry chicken sausage. It was very tasty, well prepared and plenty to eat. The other person with me had Eggs Benedict and she said it was great, though it was her first time eating Eggs Benedict. I would classify this as a fancy ($$-$$$) breakfast since it was over $20 before tip for two people. However, the food and service were up to par. I would eat here again.
The smash burger was great, but the Beacon mac & cheese would have been better without the strange bbq sauce. Also the service was lacking, but they were very busy.
We ate there several times during our stay, service varies. Food was always good.
Service was horrendous. Food was delicious.
A nice, cozy bar and restaurant with an upscale feeling adjacent to the U of MN campus. They have a nice beer selection and the menu has a lot of good choices. I really enjoy the Reuben. Prices reflect the upscale setting.
Excellent area for socializing. Breakfast was nice. Egg, cheese, and spinach on English muffin. Applewood smoked bacon. Hashed browns were interesting....kind of hard....not really crispy. Had black tea but no chai tea.
The Baked Mac there is elite. Add sriracha for 🤯 …
This is an ok place to stop for happy hour if you are on the East Bank campus—tap beers are $4 and their house wines are $5. I’ve also been here before for breakfast/lunch/dinner meetings for work and while the food is good it’s quite expensive for what you get. If you are planning to stop by for happy hour you might want to call ahead and see if they’re having one—despite saying it M-F 4-6, when I stopped by with a group recently they told us there was no happy hour that day.
Nice fish & chips plate with actual Cod (the real fish for fish and chips) although I recommend taking the cap off the cute vinegar spritzer and bathing it in vinegar for an authentic taste. Tasty drinks and carbonara as well.
Quick service barmaid was very friendly
I thought the menu was creative, especially if you're vegetarian. The sweet potato burger was delicious. Nice atmosphere, and chill vibe on a Thursday evening.
Chicken sandwich with spicy sauce and fries were quite good.
Restaurant Week Lunch 2/27/20, food was amazing, shrimp and steak, waitress was perfect and the value compared to downtown was great also.
Good variety of menus items in a fairly quiet, well appointed atmosphere. Friendly, efficient staff
Really good food for a University/Hotel pub. Also, a nice selection of beers on tap.
I always like the Beacon House, especially the booths. Good service, a tad spendy, a great burger.
Great food, great drinks, great atmosphere. Maybe the nicest place to drink around campus.
Good food. Nice waitress. Poor toilet paper quality.
A very casual place that's great for watching sporting events and having a drink!
Fantastic venue, fantastic food, classy cocktails...just love this place.
Love love love your cookie sheet nachos. Will definitely be back for those.
Good food. Had blackened salmon. It was awesome
They need more staff, especially bartenders and effective managers.
Food was mediocre. For a campus hotel probably a good fit.
Good food but small portion size
The food was really good and so was the service.
What a cute little place, very trendy, and the drinks were out standing.
Great event space and delicious tapas options.
Great food and decent vegetarian options.
Awesome host, super friendly!
Had the steak and cheese.😊 …
Great bartender in Alex
Service was a bit slow.
Class
Clean and cozy
Nice place, good TV setup for watching sports, and good food that’s a cut above a typical hotel bar. The downside is I’ve been going there for years now and it’s been chronically understaffed the entire time. The staff does their best but service is slow regardless bc they just don’t have enough people. If you’re going before a Gophers game make sure to get there with plenty of time to spare.
