Reviews of The Anchor Fish & Chips
Igor Corti
Hands down one of the best fish and chips we've had in the Twin Cities.
We came in the weekend of art-a-whirl and the food was great. It was a hot day and their beer selection is pretty good too.
Staff was friendly and we were lucky we were able to get in so quickly as this place is busy and with a good reason.
The fish and chips were really tasty and didn't disappoint.
We will be back for sure!!!

if you are gonna put it in the name then it better be good right? well they aren’t messing around because the fish and chips were on point! the batter was crisp and tasty while not being too heavy and the fish was full of flavor. that tarter sauce is legit too. the poutine was solid and our server was friendly and attentive. definitely my go to when i am craving some fried fish!
Chuck Pittman
Anchor is my favorite Fish and Chips place in Minneapolis! Every order of fish is hand battered and fried to order ensuring you only get the highest quality of food. Their portions are very generous and the food is top notch! Their house-made tarter sauce is killer and I always make sure to get two of them with my order one for the fish and another to dip my fries into! You can also order ahead and have hot fresh fish waiting for you to bring home or to one of the many breweries around like Dangerous Man down the street.

Great tasting Fish & Chips and the Veggie Pastie. Was thinking Pastie would be like a Japanese Croquette, but was pleasantly surprised by the spices incorporated into the dish.

Searched best fish and chips and the Anchor came up. I have never been happier in my life. We ordered the poutine as an appetizer. That was delicious. My son ordered the toasty. I ordered the fish by itself, which was amazing, a side of tartar sauce, mushy peas, absolutely delicious, and a meat pastie, which was decently good, but the fish took the prize for me. Dining is out back in a white tent type of situation. They have fans blowing, so there is a circulation of air. All in all... if I get another chance to go back, I'm definitely going here everyday. Do not miss the chance to go.

Fantastic fish and chips. Probably the best this side of the pond. The crew is friendly and actually care about their customers. I was recently in the MSP area for 2 days and made it a point to go both days. The Shepard’s Pie is wonderful too. Make it a point to check them out.

Everything you could want from fish and chips, done to perfection. The smell alone made me nostalgic for all of the fish fries I had been to as a kid. The fish was cooked amazingly with thick flakes and an even layer of batter, and the portion size was generous. I had ordered online for pick up, and it was a very straightforward experience with pick up through the back door. The food was extremely fresh when it was received, and was ready exactly when the online order had predicted.

Oh my cod… 🤯 it’s an understatement to say this filet floated our boats 🛥 😁
Fish and Chips with Coleslaw and Poitín Poutine 🐟 🍟 🧀
Holy buckets of tartar sauce and fresh coleslaw🪣 This was some of the best fried fish I’ve found. Perfectly moist and flaky, with a crunchy, light, golden-brown exterior that doesn’t take away from the filet. Lay it on top of fried-to-perfection steak fry-style ‘chips’ and sprinkle on some sea salt for a dinner that’ll make you want to sail away—in a good way :)
And how can you go wrong with poutine?! At The Anchor, they top those same fries ^^^ with cheese aged in the sandstone caves of Faribault, Minnesota 🧀 and DRENCH it all in gravy, which is infused with Bent Anchor Poitín… stick with me, here’s where it gets interesting!
So, what’s the deal with Poutín (Pot-cheen)? Bent Brewstillery teams up with The Anchor to produce MN’s first Irish-style moonshine-like drink. It is made with the very potato peels that result from The Anchor’s recipes! Resourceful, yes — but also “deliciously smooth, earthly… slightly smoky… with a full-bodied finish and just a hint of rounded sweetness,” At least according to their website 🥃
Both fish and fry fanatics must find a time to dock at this delicious destination 🚢 I know I’d drop anchor at such a hidden gem any time!

The food here is always so good! My dad and I both ordered the Fish and Chips. So good! For once in my life I wasn't talking because I was so content to just dine on the delicious fish! We also got the coleslaw which was fantastic. Its a small place so your going to want to make a reservation.

I have eaten at Anchor before and if it is wintry evening or a summer afternoon it is a great place to sit, chat, have a pint and and some chips.
This was the first time we have done take away and it went reasonably smoothly. You have to go in the back, which is a good thing because there is always a crowd at the front. I was right on time and they let me know immediately that they were running behind and apologized. I always find this honorable and humble. They were about 10 minutes late but that also meant that my food wasn’t waiting for me, which is a big plus in my book.
The fish was crispy after my 20 minute drive and the chips were pretty good, take away chips are often a disappointment.
Over all they would have been a 5 if they had been more on time, as I had to wait a bit, even so I was very happy and will be back again.

Was looking for some good fish and chips and found this place. The fish cooked to order came pippin hot! The chips okay seems like I the bits from the bottom of the bag of fries. Tarter sauce is 50 cents could use more relish. The staff nice and friendly. Would go back again.
Jacob Flaherty
Best Shepherds Pie around! The ambience is great, the service thoughtful and professional, and just an all-around great place to go. Tonight I had put in a full-day's worth of work nearby, with more hours to go afterwards, so for the first time I went up there alone. Had a wonderful, promptly-served beer and meal that was both hot and delicious. I'll be a regular...
Eliu Castro Ramirez
Good fish, ok fries.
Very nice atmosphere for very casual lunch
Jo Bergren
First time here with my husband fir dinner. The fish & Chips are amazing. Every bit the hype of the other reviews. The staff is kind and very friendly. Tip, order two each tartar sauces, it's delious. Great beer selection. We're looking to going forward to going back soon.
randy tidmore
I drove 30 min to eat at this place, awesome food and atmosphere
Leo D
Really solid fish and chips. Tempura batter (my favorite method) and cod (my favorite fish and chip fish). Fries nice and thick cut and everything was well seasoned. Only thing was that it was all very greasy. Still, I would definitely recommend.
Dawn Strojny
Everyone loved the food, they have few things on the menu and they do everything well.
Vegetarians that won't eat food fried in tallow, the fries and pasty are fried in tallow. They do serve a veggie black burger which is fine. The tartar sauce is yummy.
Joseph Dummann
The best fish and chips in the Twin Cities.
I docked a star because of the reservation system. We've been turned away from a mostly empty restaurant twice in the past, until we finally remembered we needed a reservation beforehand. Went in recently and from being seated to leaving was a total of 30 minutes. Knowing there are reservations only and each slot is allowed 60 minutes, that table would sit empty for 30 minutes and nobody could be seated there. You can still order to go if you forget, but fried food is never as good eaten as takeout.
It is what it is, just remember to make a reservation and they have great fish, pasties, and chips!
Jess
Best fish and chips in the Twin Cities. Staff is friendly but not always willing to take orders over the phone which can be frustrating at times. I'm sure that's a management decision though. Stop by for a beer or keep an eye out for their food truck! So delicious!
Cretex HR
We used The Anchor Fish & Chips food truck for our Employee Appreciation event at JunoPacific and it was AWESOME! The staff was great and the food was amazing. Our employees are still talking about it. 10 out of 10 would recommend!
amber wacek
We love this small, classic fish and chips joint. A local staple. Feels authentically British pub. Limited seating so make reservations online. Take is also great!
Laurél Kimpton
Awesome fish n chips! Traveled over an hour to give it a try for the first time and we absolutely enjoyed ourselves. Great atmosphere and food!! Definitely coming back.
Leana Rivera
Absolutely love this place! Great food, atmosphere, and staff.
Krystal Zheng
We just had our dinner here today. The fried fish and chips were extremely delicious. Will definitely come back again!
David Bofenkamp
Best fish and chips in MSP! Wife had the burger and said it was arguably one of the best she's had in years. 10/10. must try if you're in the area.
Krista Hopp
We were hungry for some fish and chips in the city, and this was a great choice! I already want to go back. The fish was delicious, and the fries were SOOOOO good, too! We were pleasantly surprised with the amount of fries, too!
Nancy Norman
Nicely focused menu. Clean kitchen. Chips could be crispier for my taste but that's just me. Forgot to bring my second glass of Chardonnay but it was a packed house. So glad they seem to be doing well.
Gary Kelner
Fantastic service , atmosphere , and fish and chips. I would gladly go back.
Joseph McGie
This is was a good place for lunch! We had the fish and chips, grilled cheese, and poutine! The service was good, it was an easy to get a seat, the restaurant had good decor and the waitress was nice! I did get a picture of one of the cooks and truly feel like he embodied the feel of the place with his sea captain style beard. The fish was very well done and deep fried well leaving a good amount of moisture in the fish with a great crunchy exterior!
Blackberry Bakery
Literally the best fish I’ve experienced since I moved to Minneapolis! Originally from Mississippi! My child loved it as well he’s very picky about his fish! We’ll be visiting very very soon and more often! Thank you all for the great experience!
Cyrus Rezvanifar
Their fish and chips is the best I have ever had! Absolutely fresh, crispy, and tasty! The coleslaw looked really good and I asked for one when I saw it, but the taste wasn’t as good as the looks. Overall, the fish and chips js a “must try”. Totally recommend it!
Reg Hammond
Fish and chips transports me to a pub in Sussex somewhere! I have been here a dozen times, the fish is the best when dining in. I will try the burger next trip.
Christopher Popov
The fish and chips are the big draw but remember not to sleep on the Shepard's pie and burger or the curry fries. I am knocking off two stars because a few times now I've gotten pretty cold or just bad service.
Britt Murray
Amazing fish and chips! Fried to perfection and never soggy.Their tarter sauce is one of the best that I have ever had. The only thing that I wish they had was malt vinegar to go.
Sydney N
The best fish n chips in town, but really disappointed with our last order. We ordered two full fish n chip orders and received not even a full filet between the two pieces. One of the pieces was maybe as thick as my pinky finger. The taste and texture were also off, clearly an older batch of fish.
For $26 (plus tips and tax), I was super disappointed. Overall, I paid $40+ for this order. Hope the quality control can be improved. I’m used to the Anchor having such high quality fish!
Kelli Wheeles
Husband and son said this was the best fish and chips they’ve ever had. My daughter had the veggie burger it was also delicious. I had the toasty minus the ham. I did not care for it. It was very greasy. Friendly service. Nice location in the art district. Outside seating. Very reasonable.
Michelle Griep
Love fish and chips? Look no further. These are by far the best in the metro area... and no wonder because the owners are from Ireland. But as awesome as the dinners are, make it a point to go for breakfast as well. Their Full Whacks (basically an English breakfast) are drool worthy as well.
Tim Rivard
Best fish and chips in the state. Always fresh cod and the steak fries set the mood as there the best ever.
R David Koby
Like most others, the four of us came for their legendary fish and chips. They have other Irish fare stuff on the menu but who cares. The fish and chips are the best I've ever had, no contest. The slab of nicely crusted cod is huge and it basically melts in your mouth. Our Irish waitress, Siobhan, was friendly and efficient. (look up the Irish name Siobhan on the web. Interesting history) We were hoping to see the infamous cat "socks" but had to settle for a photo Siobhan showed us. But in spite of 'sock's' no show we left very satisfied. I only wish that I had this place near where I live on the east coast.
Cathy Strommen
Great fish and chips! We didn't have a reservation, but didn't need one since we were pretty late for lunch.
Anna Dentlinger
My fiance and I happened upon this little hole in the wall restraunt last night and we loved it. The waiter was super nice and helpful in telling us what has popular and what he liked. Since we went later in the evening and it was a Wednesday night it was busy but not packed. We were seated right away and the wait for service and food was surprisingly short.
My fiance got the fish and chips while I got the meat pastie and chips. The pastie was good but I had a small bite of the fish my fiance got and I can say next time we go I am going to get the fish and chips. It was all filling and my fiance said it was one of the best fish and chips he has had. Only wished we lived a bit closer so we could get take away from there. We both are looking forward to our next trip to The Anchor though.
Sarah Carsello
Service was fast and friendly on a random Saturday afternoon. We ordered a grilled cheese and chips for the kiddo - it had white cheddar or something similar that wasnt a melty, goey cheese. It didn't go over well with the kiddo but I thought it was tasty. I had the poutine - which was a fantastic twist to the original. Generous amounts of cheese curds and delicious sauce. Tried a bite of fish from the fish and chips and the breading had amazing seasoning!
Dave Dempsey
GREAT FOOD! Believe me, apart from the price, Anchor Fish & Chips is about the closest comparison to an English Chippy you will find in the whole United States!
Chase Nelson
Anchor has great fish and chips. The price is a good for what you get. One big piece with some fries. No complaints but I'd prefer an option that had one more piece.
OuttaTownTony
Great, but not the greatest.
Worth a visit for the following reasons:
-Tasty
-Generous
-Affordable
The chips are like steak fries and huge piece of fish! Yummy homemade tarter.
Tell’em #OuttaTownTony sent you!
Melissa Ann
Brought my parents here while they were visiting and they loved it. Best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Chips are perfectly soaked with the oil from the hot crispy fish resting on top. If you need some feel goods this is the spot.
Lindsey Hiner
The food here is excellent. We had the fish and chips and the helicopter burger. They have great covid protocols, too. Definitely recommend!
Cameron Shurtz
Awesome local joint. Fish and chips were great. A must try. Staff was friendly and efficient. Cool atmosphere. A bit loud and not super big. Expect a wait. Definitely recommend.
Hellcat Pass Co.
Nothing beats this place for fish and chips. Outdoor dining was great, service was on point and the ice tea was very good.
I ate part of the fish before the photo sorry, I was hanging off the other side too.
Side note, it's ok to smuggle in malt vinegar if you need it.
T T
I moved to MN from England 5 years ago and am always missing the food. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the customer service here. Shepherd's Pie and the fish were definitely on point but the pastywas a little disappointing because it wasn't the authentic pie-like pasty I'm used to. We got here just as they opened and I'm glad because they get very busy!
Jess Meyer
I really like Anchor Fish & Chips. Always good service and the food is great. Can 100% recommend. Thank you!
Doug R
Anchor Fish n Chips is my new go to! Service is awesome and the food is spectacular! Then name outside is exactly what I order and it's exceptional! I'll have to try the other menu items sometime! You must make a reservation - you won't regret it!
Ian Hrabe
The staff boat shirts that read “The Real Deal,” and while I can’t speak to whether or not this matched the traditional UK fish and chips experience, the food here is can’t miss. Features a nice selection of brews on tap and fun temporary tattoos for the kiddos (which all but sold them on a repeat visit, woohoo).
Sherri Ruf
Went to Anchor for my birthday and it was amazing! Looking for a truly authentic fish and chips... here is your place! So delightfully light and flavorful. Would highly recommend!
Erica Anderson
The Anchor Fish and Chips is my go to place for my fish and chips cravings. I love light and crunch the batter is. The chips are great too. I also like how consistently good their food is whether it is at the restaurant or from their food truck. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I love coming here whenever I can.
Nikki Heikke-Evans
The most amazing fish and chips in the Twin Cities!!! I do miss being able to enjoy the ambiance of this lovely little jem of NE Minneapolis.
Angela Bauer
The Anchor Fish & Chips is THE BEST fish and chips restaurant in the Twin cities area! They provide an inviting environment with the some of the best food you can get in Northeast!
Lewis Courtney
Booked a table for 4 and arrived 10 mins early. Wasnt a problem and were seated in a booth. One of the lovley owners remembered me from previous visits. Staff all very freindly and as always the food was excellent. Having been raised in England, I can without a doubt say this is the best fish and chips around. Please go and you wont be disapointed. Thanks again Anchors!
Mohammed AlShaibani
It's a busy place where you might wait outside for 20-30 mins. Food was delicious, they're popular for fish and chips and it was cooked beautifully. They have tartar souace and that works perfectly with the fish. The cheese burger was awesome, cooked and seasoned beautifully. Service was very good as well. It was an overall enjoyable experience.
Christine Mirelez
I used to LOVE this place but it's gone downhill. The food is still amazing which is why I'll occasionally come back but the customer service is garbage.
K Young
Some excellent, some not so much. The shepherds pie was outstanding. The meat patsies were nice and crispy, but could have used a bit more filling. The fish on the fish and chips was cooked perfectly, and the batter was light and crunchy, if a bit oily. The only real downside were the chips. Good flavor, but under cooked and soggy. We'll be trying it again an hope to get crispy fries next time.
Tyler L
The fish. The chips. So simple, nothing fancy, but they get it right. The fish is crispy and tender with just a basic delectable batter and sea salt. The fries are (somehow) crispy and tender as well. Both are wonderful with no doing sauce. And the one burger they of l offer is really good too!
Pro tip: order takeout and bring it to dangerous man brewing to pair with a not-too-sweet-or-syrupy peanut butter porter, or other great beer.
Chino
Excellent food and very friendly staff!
Ian Boje
I don't usually like fish, but this place had the best Fish and Chips that I've ever had. I'll be back for more.
Cherish Grabau
The fish & chips is quite honestly the best I've ever had. The cod is lightly battered and so sweet & light. Order a side of gravy to dip the chips, and a side of mushy peas. Unisex restrooms for those who prefer them. LOVE this place.
Robert Hines
Honestly, this is the best place to go for fish and chips in the Twin Cities - hands down! The fish is perfectly cooked, crispy and flakey the way it should be - it's not greasy! The fries are excellent too. There are other things on the menu to eat, but with "fish and chips" as the restaurant's name, why would you eat anything else?
Hell_if_I_know
Had a wonderful time! My husband searched all over Ireland to find the same quality fish and chips but couldn't. Great atmosphere, friendly prompt service.
Rosa Vasquez (iamamiwhoami)
Best fried cod and chips! The poutine was good, but had a little too much black pepper in it, as I tasted a lot of that in the dish.
introverted1
Food was great as always. Love going here. Always recommend to friends looking for somewhere new.
Peri Kujawa
Did take away. OUTSTANDING FISH! However, did not care for the coleslaw. Would I come back? Absolutely!
Kelly Merriman
Friday evening date night, fish and chips at The Anchor. Never having been to the Anchor I wasn't sure what to expect. We had a fabulous time! Setting was smaller and more intimate, attentive and friendly customer service, and the fish-and-chips were a '10'. We will definitely be back. I appreciated the focus on safety; I definitely felt like they cared.
Michael Bodin
The fish and chips were great. A friend from work kept raving about this place, and I found out why. The fish was so tender and the breading so light and delicious. The only down side is that they charge for tarter sauce, and the soda is not coke or Pepsi. They have a tent set up outside for dining, so glad it was a nice day.
3-5-21
They are open for indoor seating, have an easy to use reservation system on their website. Fish was still fantastic! Can't wait to go again.
Adam Barrett
I've eaten here many times, always opting for the fish and chips- they never disappoint.
During my last visit, I switched it up and had the veggie burger- wow! Fantastic!
My only gripe (and I wasn't on a date so it doesn't really matter), it was very messy to eat. That said, I'll sacrifice my table manners to devour that veggie delight.
As always, the staff is beyond attentive and friendly. Seriously, every restaurant should try to model their service after this team.
Thank you for an enjoyable evening and full stomach (the veggie burger is very filling).
Michelle S
Delicious fish and chips. The mashed peas were our favorite. He outdoor tent was comfortable though the wind seemed almost to blow it away by the end of our dinner! Helpful wait staff.
Marsh Jones
This is my go to for fish and chips and they do it very very well. It's a bit of a zoo during Lent - order on line, or walk up and wait a while, and i think a bit more limited menu. Check the website for details.
Anyway, the breading is consistently crispy, not greasy, the fish inside it properly cooked, and not 'fishy', large portions. The potatoes are well cooked, properly salted, and plentiful. Coleslaw and tartar sauce were great as well.
They also offer 'mushy peas' which to my mind are one of the most awful excuses for food that the British inflicted upon the world - but i suspect the Anchor does that well too.
Well worth the stop!
kaceyvu
Fish and chips were good. Shepards pie and poutine was very salty, which is why I gave 3.5-4 stars
witzed1
Good food, great wait staff, warm on a cold night in MN. What more could you want.
Jason
You don't need this review, there are hundreds of others telling you the same thing. Best damn fish and chips in the region. But go often enough that you can try the rest of the menu, from burger lovers to vegetarians to brunch, everything is fantastic. It's small and there's a wait for a reason, grab a beer and take it in.
Mark Chapman
Haven't had a Guinness and Fish n Chips since our trip to Ireland. This fulfilled expectations complete with vinegar on the table!
Brandon Hoel
I have been eating here for 7 years give or take. It always delivers by far and away the best flavor and quality. I got a take out order because I have two young children and after eating myself into a food coma due to their large portions I decided to check out some reviews and rewrite mine a bit. First off if you take fish away from the restaurant all you have to do is open your bag/boat and let the moisture out. I personally give anchor a 99/100 because they serve their food so fresh and hot that I burn myself like a dork at the first bite. So it travels fine but open it. It is literally the best restaurant around so you should always set some time aside for how busy it gets. This place wouldn't be a zoo if it tasted bad so please don't hate if you have to wait. The service is always top tier. I got one hard fillet once after spending thousands at this place. The server guy took it away and gladly had a new one made immediately. Be patient with the staff they will take care of it. There are just another 50 people that need help too. I'm not mad that prices went up on what feels like the only place that actually makes things fresh. So that's the end of my too many one star reviews rant. This place is heaven sent and I will be bringing my family and friends here so they can enjoy the experience.
jlpeaceout
Great service, and friendly staff. The atmosphere was very comfortable. We sat at the bar for a little while waiting for a table, and the staff was very hospitable. The fish and chips were delicious, and the gravy was really good!
Mike Walsh
If you like fish n chips with a (real beer) Guinness, then this is a MUST GO for you! They can get very busy on weekends so plan ahead or try an off peak time!
Konfue Xiong
The Guinness here is really good too. Of course recommend the fish and chips.
Marc Radinzel
Delicious Fish and Chips. Fresh Cod meaning I don't think it has been previously frozen...it has texture. Small menu and small place so the wait can be substantial. Worth the wait but don't go starving if you're the type who gets hangry. I love this place and I'm glad I'm not alone. I crave their Fish & Chips when I'm on the road. If you haven't been...GO!
Recently revisited since the Pandemic! Just as good as it was before, only with a lot less neighbors. Looks as though the rest of the businesses surrounding The Anchor didn't fare as well through it all.
Otoki Sicily
Huge portion of fish, and excellent fries. I loved the mushy peas and dipping the fries in curry sauce.
Try their breakfast too! The full whack is a great variety of Irish breakfast food.
Tony Gao
Fun place to be. Small interior. Quick service. Sit at the bar and see them prep the fresh fish and deep fry it before your eyes. Served piping hot. Can get very busy.
Danielle VanDeWeghe
Food is ok. Door is wheelchair accessible although heavy and the auto door opener is usually off. But remember to get a reservation. Because the empty restaurant is reserved.
Richard Demers
Beautiful, big, delicious, freshly fried cod filets served with perfect fried chips.
Rob Liebhart
Best fish and chips in Minneapolis, hands down. Poutine is good, too, and they have a well-rounded selection of beers. Excellent location with plenty of bike parking along quiet side street.
James Marriott
As a Brit, I visit here whenever I can for the fish and "chips". Possibly the best in town. Great service (book ahead), friendly staff. Only negatives are no malt vinegar, no deserts and the "Shepard's Pie" is actually Cottage Pie ;-P
Denise Jones
Really delicious cod fish and chips. The staff was friendly and helpful. The beer selection was nice too. If I'm in the mood for fish and chips I will definitely go again!
Sam Weisner
If you like your food to be all one color and texture definitely come here. I must say the service was good and the beer was phenomenal. Found some very mature-looking nematodes in my leftovers 🪱💞 love that for me …
Ethan Bjelland
Soooooo good. The fish and chips are to die for—great breading and fish. The chips are great for dipping—recommend the gravy over the curry. And make sure to add the tartar sauce—50c per cup, but totally worth it.
We need more places in the cities that specialize in one thing and do it really well.
David Wilson
I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to rate The Anchor. You have two choices: enjoy Fish and Chips at the Anchor or buy a $1000 plane ticket to Ireland. I expect the ready of the menu is good too, but may never get there. Enjoy mushy peas and curry for the full experience.
Jeffrey Klein
The Anchor has great food - best fish and chips in the cities - but be warned it's not a place you can linger. Two fairly hostile signs on the way in remind you you're only welcome for an hour.
Edit: "hostile" is too strong of a word, my mistake. Just be aware it's a kind of in-and-out place, you wouldn't want to meet friends here to catch up over beers. But people can move on to other places nearby for that.
vik k
We had not been to the restaurant for a cpl of years, eager to go. Fish was ok, not as great as before. We were encouraged to leave after an hour because of next reservation, not a place to sit and chat unfortunately. Hopefully things will improve. Waitress was good.
D V
I used to live in England so it felt a little bit like being there. The prosecco was really good and the fish was light and tasty. Our waitress Amy was awesome!
Julie Madsen
Hands down the Best Fish in the Entire state!! Authentic British/ Irish style Fish & chips!! I miss going here sooo much!! Living in the sticks now, still make it there but not as often.😭 the Staff is friendly and Fun, great music, art, atmosphere!! Also, really good Shepard 's pie& Beer!! Cheers!! …
Christian Spraungel
Best fish and chips I’ve had. Even got in on st. Paddy’s day and it was so worth it. Don’t bother going anywhere else for F&C
K K
Awesome fish and chips. Fish always has great texture and the chips are substantial. I will say that the fry job sometimes is a little dark, but nothing that detracts from the taste. Tartar sauce is good too. Always quick and great customer service!
CECELIA Ryan
Good food, great servers, like an authentic Irish Pub.
Nicola Scott
Amazing! As a brit, this was the best fish n chips I've had in the US! The mushy peas were the best I've e ever had! I honestly came, expecting to be disappointed when I didn't see any malt vinegar on the table...but it was so good! Definitely be back!
Jeremy Hop
Awesome spot for the classic fish and chips. Also vist their food truck. Had to share the random pic from the Sociable Cider Werks Brewer's Block party. Got a good laugh from the face!
Richard Brouillard
Fish n chips. Fish was great, fries not so good. I then went back and tried the fish and chips again, and it was fantastic! Fries were perfect this time. I'm a happy customer. Look forward to the next time.
Andrew Ernst
Absolutely amazing experience! A great cider and even better fried protein. FISH, SAUSAGE, AND CHIPS! Couldn't ask for more of a real chips spot!
Scott Degendorfer
We always enjoy going there. The food is so good! We had the Shepard's pie and the fish and chips. Delicious as always!
Otto Dunemann
Fish n chips are phenomenal! However I'm a IPA person and only 1 to choose from
Robert W
the shepherds pie was amazing, cool setting as well. will be back for sure.
Kevin Mclaughlin
Never disappointed with the service and food at The Anchor! As authentic as you can get if you have ever had them in the UK! Highly recommend to fish and chips lovers! Can’t beat it!
Ian Severns
Best fish and chips I’ve ever had! Great portions, great atmosphere!
Aviad Negev
Awesome food, great tap beers.
Delicious vegetarian options.
tommy rat
Great fish good beer nice staff best local restaurant 👌 …
Laura Graves
So delicious! You gotta try the fish and chips
Lloyd Hilsgen
We had fish and chips and poutine. Gravy was delicious.
Jen Yaaj
We always order the fish & chips from here and it never disappoints! Large, deliciously battered pieces dipped in their yummy tarter sauce makes each visit totally worth the drive. Its not like any other fish & chips you've had before. Just don't forget to order the tarter sauce from the "side" menu and order extra because it's delicious to dip the fries in too. No need to think about it just go try their food already!
Michael Metzler
The best fish & chips in town, bar none. Always great, friendly service. Beer and wine only. Don't miss their food truck.
Liela Marie Fuller
Fish and chips are really good. Small place, very intimate. I didn't like having to pay extra for tarter sauce.
Heather Leiviska
I love that one can make resies here, and eat inside the tent. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The fish is the best around, not too greasy, just the perfect amount of breading. And try the Pastie. Outstanding.
Carl Bloch
My go to place for fish and chips. Best in the city. Full size filet which is lightly fried and very flaky. Try the mushy peas also, they are a sweet treat!
K “Kimmy” D
Always amazing! Shepard’s pie is a must try but definitely I come for the fish. Don’t sleep on the burger either. Also shout out the always smiling friendly staff. Love this place!
Coach Les J Hill
Ahh well the Fish n Chips were great.
it was the condiments and the way one of the staff people there was so elitist and condescending about malt vinegar !! It is at successful places that I always say, be careful… cheers
Jennifer Nyberg
Feels like you have gone across the pond to an authentic pub! Fish and chips was amazing, light crispy batter, not too heavy. The fries are all fresh potatoes, not too soft when cooked. They have a nice crisp texture. The atmosphere is great! Highly recommend.
GERARD GARRAMONE
Nothing compares. We couldn't find a place in Dublin we liked as much. Consistently amazing food and great service. Get a killkenney while you wait
Brian Ha
Great fish and chips and mushy peas
Chloe Ashton
Best English breakfast this side of the Atlantic. Proper Heinz baked beans, true bacon and the best homemade potato cake that can honestly beat the store ones back home!! We came up here for a wedding and my husband found this place for me. Being British and rarely going home I always look for opportunities to try the American version of my favourite foods and this did not disappoint. I cannot wait to come back and try the fish and chips. This will be made into a regular place to eat every time we come up here now. I seriously cannot rave about this place enough!! Besides the food our waitress was also super wonderful. Great experience overall. Definitely go visit this place.
Alyssa L.
The best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Absolutely delicious food + wonderful service. Get the side of curry to go with it. Amazing flavor all around. Such a gem of a spot that you don’t want to miss.
Mir Farrokh Salek
Fish and chips tastes very good but it a little bit heavy
Denise Zechmann
First time back took me down memory lane. British pub food but especially the outstanding fish and chips never disappoint.
The fish is always cooked to perfection and spills out across the plate like it owns it.
Tables are tucked under a tent out back these days and require a reservation. Tent could have used with a bit of circulation it was a bit swampy in the heat of the evening.
Sarah Knutson
We recently did takeaway from here for the first time. The fish was incredible. I've never ordered fish and chips anywhere and had to order the tartar sauce on the side, though. So make sure you catch that at the bottom of the menu - we didn't, which was a bit disappointing when we got it home.
Nate Lund
One of my two favorite chip shops in the cities. The fish is excellent, the chips are well done, the tartar sauce is good. We usually get a side of curry sauce to dip the chips, really tasty if you're into that sort of thing. Decent beer selection, though I usually stick with a Guinness or Kilkenny. Wonderful, low-key atmosphere.
K L
My order of fish and chips came with only one piece of fish and a very small amount of fries. I order here all the time and usually get at least double these portions. Didn’t notice till I got home, frustrating.
John O'Neill
Outstanding fish and chips in a charming setting. Staff is friendly and attentive. They have several good beers on tap.
Foodie Traveler
The fish was tender with a crisp crust, but it just didn't have much flavor.
Elizabeth Bennetts
SUCH a good veggie pasty. It was traditional tasting without the meat. We dined with our friends who had just been in the UK and they said Anchor, and the Fish and Chips especially, transported them back to London. During Covid, they only had a 60 minute table limit, which I find to be a bit too short. Should have been 90 min.
John LaPres
Came here for the fish and chips and left very satisfied. Place is packed but it’s only outside seating which is understandable but wish it was both. Their fish is so crispy and a top 5 fish and chips place I have been to In my life
Jim Hammond
Went for the fish and chips, and was not disappointed. Only complaint is I think you can do better with your space. Thankfully you've kept beautiful original architectural aspects, but the whole seating area needs a serious update. The foods good enough to keep me coming back. So you do you Anchor, but there's always room for improvement. Thanks for the excellent giant piece of fish, the perfect chips, and the bottle of vinegar on the table.
Laura Pratt
The best fish and chips I've ever had, and I've eaten more fish and chips than is good for me. The portions are huge, so you should either skip lunch or split it with someone - although it does reheat okay in the oven. All of the staff are great too! I want to try the other things on the menu but I can't, the fish is too good.
Dan ''Spiffy'' Neuman
I want to be clear. I have never actually set foot in the Anchor.
However, I was working with some people nearby, and they ordered carryout from there for us, two days in a row. Someone else went to pick it up.
The fish and chips was so wonderful I had to write a review. Flavorful without being overwhelming. Crispy yet soft. I'm not a huge fish person but it was amazing. Only downside was it was a bit on the greasy side.
A friend got the burger and I tried a bite. It tasted like a very good homemade burger. Personally, when I get a burger from a restaurant, I prefer it to taste like a restaurant burger, as opposed to homemade.
The second day I tried the Shepard's Pie, it was good, and filling, but not quite as flavorful as I'd hoped.
If we go back again, I'm getting the fish again. And again.
liederess
Great food. Delicious Irish Stew and of course, the fish and chips were superb, but expect them to be greasy. That didn't stop my friend from sneaking most of my chips! They don't take reservations so expect significant wait time at standard meal times. Go early! It's worth it!
Leticia Berry
We came here on a Friday night. There was a 45 min wait and it was worth the wait. I would wait for over an hour if I went back.
We had the poutine to start. The gravy was incredible.
I ordered the fish and chips and the 2 people I was with had the burgers.
The fish was light and fluffy and tasty. The chips were crispy and perfectly soft inside.
The beat part was the funny friendly waiter who made jokes and made the experience even better. I hope we go back soon!
Colton Anderson (Colt)
I was turned on to this place by my colleague who said “I don’t like fish, but I had theirs and would eat there again” and you know what. She wasn’t wrong. The fish is great and the chips are excellent. My only complaint is that I couldn’t stay longer to have a seconds. Worth the trip no matter where you are in the Minneapolis area.
Aric Bertram
Don't get me wrong, the food is fantastic. The batter on both the fish and sausage (yes, you read that right, sausage) is super light and tasty. The staff is engaged and personable. The space is just so limited. Don't go in groups over 2 and expect a quick seating. Four is going to be a challenge. We has their curry carrot soup, Wonderful! Portions are extremely generous, you can easily share an order of fish. Try the poutine, and get a fish and sausage, all to share, keeps the over serve reasonable and still a ton of good food!
Kev Moe
There is no better place you can get better fish and chips anywhere else or at any price. Hands down quality service... excellent beer pairings...my personal favorite is Harp's! Even the tarter sauce is something special. Although a smaller venue they do a great job of trying to fit in a larger party!
Nicole Raves
ALWAYS exceptional food, and service! THEE BEST fish and chips in the midwest, and the food truck is just as up to par! I've also never tasted a better quality burger than at this establishment, and I've been to many burger joints. These guys are affordable, good quality, and good service. Never a disappointment, and I've continued to impress half a dozen new people with this place. 10/10 would recommend!!
Nicole Rowles
Went on a Sunday afternoon at 2 and no wait, lots of tables available. Not a huge selection of food, but that’s because that’s the whole point: you’re supposed to get fish and chips and it’s AMAZING. Breading is crispy. nice music and atmosphere as well. Also, when my fish came, it was a huge piece but (apparently) smaller than usual, she put in another piece for us! Cheers!
Kim Snider
A little bit of a wait without reservations but not long at all. Great fish and chips. Definitely will be back.
Elizabeth Madigan
Amazing fish and chips! Hand battered here. Good portion sizes. Fast and friendly. Clean.
Duncan Shannon
Awesome little place for fantastic fish and chips! Irish breakfast on the weekends too!
Keith O.
Fish and chips were amazing. Floor is slippery but god dang is it worth it
Patrick Evans
I believe this is the best place in the Twin Cities to get English style fish and chips. Normally I don't like tartar sauce, but theirs is delicious. It's worth the 50 cents extra. Their curry and gravy are also excellent dipping sauces. The non-fish menu items are pretty good but not as good as the fish.
The interior is fairly small and groups will likely need to wait for a table. However, they do a lot of take-away business so you can order ahead and take your fish elsewhere (Dangerous Man a block away is an excellent place to eat fish and drink craft beer). The parking lot is also a little small; street parking isn't bad since there is a lot near the intersection.
The staff are friendly and willing to answer questions.
D B
Best fish in Minnesota. There homemade tartar sauce is amazing.
M J
I never knew about this place before Friday. The crazy thing is that we don't live far away. Because the wait was going to be ridiculous, we ordered from the food truck out back. BEST FISH AND CHIPS in the Midwest, hands down! Everything was PERFECT. The tartar sauce was super tasty and matched the fish perfectly. The chips were crisp on the outside, fluffy internally. My beau doesn't usually eat fish and he gobbled his right down. We will be back!
Ben “Yung Hinoki” Wu
Probably better than most...actually...all fish and chips I ate in England during my time there for a year. Probably because England really doesn’t have, for the most part, great food, it’s a land where most people enjoy instant coffee, so this was a refreshing place to be, and happy they were Irish any way, so hope they forgave me of asking for malted vinegar, but the white vinegar was much tastier any way. Great service, the waiter was such a solid, and great big chunk of fish. Batter was crunchy and fluffy, not too greasy, not too over whelming, perfect ratio of fish to batter, and the chips were fabulous as well, crunchy and meaty. Yum, will be back and be sharing the spot with all my friends!
Tony Fabiano
The fish and chips are fantastic. The breading is fresh, crispy, and flavorful and perfectly salty. The cod inside is juicy and flaky. The cod could have used a little bit more flavor inside but the breading and sauce made up for that. Chips also very crispy and fresh. Wish they had malt vinegar or a stronger vinegar at the table though. Would definitely go back
William Wood
My wife and I had dinner there last night and were exceptionally please with the care they took in all aspects of seating arrangements and food delivery to the table. They have erected an outdoor tent and placed tables about seven feet apart. The food as always was excellent as always and the staff were friendly and courteous. Reservations are required.
I highly recommend Anchor as a place to go.
David Noble
The fish was exceptional, the chips just average, sort of limp and mushy. Tough to rate when it's takeout vs. a plate served at the table probably makes a huge difference with those fries! Regardless, my fish & chips fix was satisfied.
CookingwAnushka
You can never go wrong with fish and chips. For the price and the amount of food it was incredible! Grab a Guinness on tap. What are you waiting for? :)
Wanda M
Wow, what a gem!! Fish was amazing. Just what we were looking for.
Bill Oas
Solid Fish and Chips! Worth the wait. Chips are a bit softer than my preferred Belg or Dutch style but tasty. Fish is a huge filet perfectly battered. Beer selection is limited and needs a few basics like Heineken, Stella, or Grain Belt Premium. Staff were awesome. Friday night and a 45 minute wait was worth it!
David Rust
What fantastic food! My friends and I purposefully ordered different items so we could share them and try more of the menu that way. The fish and chips? Astounding! Plump and large (but not so gargantuan that you felt overfull when eating). The bangers and chips? Really amazing! Their version of a Cornish Pasty? Completely unexpected but really good.
Fantastic wait staff, too. Despite the restaurant being completely full, our waitress was constantly attentive to us and our needs throughout the meal.
I've been several times, as of this update, and I have to say their weekend breakfast is spectacular: even better than the amazing fish and chips! If you've not had a "Full English" or a "Fry-Up", here's your chance to try them. I recommend "the Full Whack": two eggs, bangers, black and white pudding (sausages), potato bread, grilled tomatoes, bacon, baked beans, and mushrooms! It's very filling but also really comforting. Be sure to ask for a bottle of H&P brown sauce ... it's a very nice addition to the eggs and sausages!
The ambiance (especially the appearance of the punched tin roof) was very nice. The only potential problems were the sound-level and seating. The music was a bit loud and made it hard to relax. Also, the seating is hard, straight-backed, and non-cushioned so people with bad backs will not be comfortable unless you bring a cushion. Visually, though, this small restaurant is a real winner in the "atmosphere" category.
Melanie Holmes
Worth the wait! I would recommend coming here in smaller groups (like a group of 2) because they don't have a lot of larger tables. The fish & chips are delicious (make sure you get tartar sauce too) and can't be beat by anywhere else in the Twin Cities!
Tina Jones
Best fish and chips in the Twin Cities 😋
Maggie Bloom
A huge THANK YOU to The Anchor for making the space safe during these times. The staff were incredibly kind and the food was amazing. I am not a fish person but ate half my hubby's fish and chips and I must say that the helicopter burger is one of the best burgers I've had in ages! I would happily sit outside on another drizzly night to support this establishment.
Chelsea Fischer
They have good fish and chips. We got the coleslaw and it was terrible! The cabbage was bitter, kinda woody, and the sauce tasted like it was just mayo and milk.
Steven Zepeda
This place was amazing. The fish and chips were outstanding. It felt euphoric eating the food. The Guiness on tap is poured perfectly. The people that appear to be the owners definitely care about their clientele and Irene was a really solid server. She is friendly and welcoming, definitely will be coming back.
Lucas Powell
Family favorite of ours. Fast service, Kilkenny on tap. Fish and chips are great, the toasty and burger are too. Specials are usually excellent. Limited seating but if you get there before 6 or after 8 you can sit right away. They also do a great traditional Irish breakfast on the weekends, weird sausages and tomato and beans.
Robert Muller
Authentic fish and chips. A must try in Northeast. It can get busy as it has a smaller dining room and patio.
Nick Skochinsky
A new favorite place to eat!!! Cozy atmosphere and awesome fish. The menu is simple but has some great dishes. Try the bangers with chips....great seasonings. Even on a Friday night your wait won't be much more than 20-25 minutes.
Quynh Nguyen
Praise the sun this place has the best fish and chips and lovely staff!
Adam McDaniel
Hands down best fish & chips in the cities. Bartenders know how to pour a proper half & half.
Thien Cao
We were there on a Thursday night but it was packed. The staffs were extremely nice and helpful. Very nice and vibrant atmosphere. Fish and chips are spot on. Love the flavor and the crunchiness of the batter and the fries. Definitely recommend if you have chance to visit the city.
Nathan Barbeln
A must stop in NE Minneapolis. The fish and chips are the best you'll have anywhere. I've been multiple times and had great experiences each time. Great food and good beer selection. Service has always been great as well.
Jessica Wicklund
Absolutely amazing fish and chips for $12. We also got poutine which was also homemade and delicious ($9). Irish beer on tap for around $4.50/glass. Beware: they do not take reservations so expect to wait 30-50 minutes for a table. Definitely worth the wait though!
Joe Huber
Anchor Fish & Chips has the best fish & chips in Minneapolis. Their restaurant has such a phenomenal British pub vibe and their staff is energetic and personable. While I've waited in long lines to get in, once you sit down the service is pretty quick. I've also grabbed take-out from there and walked a block down to eat at Dangerous Man Brewery. I'm sure their menu is fantastic but the only choice when I go there is their Fish & Chips. The fish (cod) is fried to perfection with a delicious crispy batter that sticks to the fish well. While I haven't tried every restaurant's fish & chips in Minneapolis-St. Paul - they by far have the best I've had. Keep an eye out too for their food truck - they not only serve fish & chips but also cheese curds. I've encountered them on several occasions at different breweries where they've used the brewery's beer in the batter!
I C
Other than seating, I love everything they have especially the the fish and chips. It is one of the few places that actually reminded me of some of the best fish and chips I had in San Fransisco. Their batter is Not too thick or too thin. It may look expensive, but it is worth the price. Their shepard pies and chips are good, but what keeps me coming back are the fish and chips. They don't do lunch and are not opened every day - just to give you a feel how well liked they are to be able to survive with those opening hours. Hope you enjoy it too!~
Mika Baer
INREDIBLE fish and chips. Huge portions for the price and a good variety of tap beers. My only complaint was the curry fries were really gross. I tried them with my friend (who is Indian) and neither of us wanted to continue eating them. The waitress was very kind and did not charge us for them. Great service and amazing food. Expect to wait for a little while to get a spot to sit.
Joe Coluccy
I already knew Anchor from when I lived nearby in NE a few years ago. Ever since the pandemic started, I had been missing my trips there. Ordering fish & chips and grabbing a Killian's Irish Red on tap. So I decided for St. Patrick's Day this year I would treat myself and order pickup! When I got there it was a bit hectic (I think they had either been overloaded with online orders or just so happened to be severely understaffed last night, or both). Either way, it was well worth the wait to stand outside in a cold parking lot for 45 mins until my food was ready. Even bringing it home didn't make the meal any less amazing. A humongous shout out to the staff and crew for working so hard! I'm sure not everyone was "MN Nice" about the delays, but I hope you know that some of us out here in MPLS appreciate everything that you do! I sure hope you are all well paid for your efforts
Robert Gerhart
The best fish I've ever had -- loved it (and that's coming from a guy who normally hates all types of seafood). One of my kids tried the meat pasty, and she liked it (I stole a bite of it... very good). Friendly service, decent prices. The only negative was the 45min wait because they were swamped.
Isaac Ahlfield
One of the best fish and chips ever! Burgers are awesome, too. The other food has been somewhat lackluster for me, but tasted very authentic and may just not be for me. Still highly worth going to for a burger or fish and chips.
nikita klochan
One of my favorite places to go on gopher game day. The food is always consistent. I always get the fish and chips. Staff is great. Always a good conversation. If you like fish and chips and other British fare, it's THE place to go.
Joel Alioto
I was engaged to a British citizen who lives in Cardiff Wales. And the fish and chips was better than over their. It was make without beer in the batter and was flaky but not soggy which I dislike. The curry fries had a light brown color but a very good taste.
The only thing different but not bad was that they had white vinegar instead of malted. The tarter sauce is 50 cents extra and reminded me of dill chip dip but was better than my own recipe. $12.00 was the cost without tip. $2.00 for coffee and that was good too.
Brendan Woolsey
I heard of this place while watching the food network so I figured if it was good enough to make it on TV it had to be good!!! To me it's one of those grate hole in the wall restaurants that nobody really knows about. The place is kind of small but always packed with people no matter the time of day! Having that being said it still has a great atmosphere for anyone of any age! I can't really speak for all of their food but if the rest is as good as their signature dash fish and chips then its probably to die for..... with out a doubt best fish I have ever eaten battered and deep fried to golden protection!! The chips where sliced to the perfect thickness fried till golden brown and then yes tossed in sea salt!! The only way it should be done! Then all of it served in a basket in that grate pub style all fresh out of the fryer! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone!!
Jarrod Condon
This is the second time I've been to this location amd both times it's been soooo amazing!!!! The first time my girlfriend and I came and both loved it. The fish is so BIG that you get and flaky and moist. The chips (fries) that come with the fish taste so good and you get a big helping as well.
I brought my son with this last time and he just loved it as well and would go back as I would anytime.
The restaurant is a small restaurant, but there is never a long wait, and the staff is friendly and helpful as well. I totally would recommend this location to anyone that loves fish!!!
Rebecca Mazza
Can't beat the prices and quality of the fish. Service is a little slow but the food comes out quickly. It's a little weird they charge for tarter sauce but everything is so reasonable it doesn't matter. The fries aren't outstanding but the fish is what you're coming for.
Cool Deena
They have the best fish and chips. I have yet to find any place even close to the Anchor. The staff is very friendly and the price point is excellent. Wish they were open before 4 pm. Because it’s an intimate setting and they offer great food, you can expect a long wait on Friday’s and Saturday’s.
Adam Beaudry
My wife and visted for the first time. We liked the atmosphere and the service. I had the fish and chips and they reminded me of London. It was very good! My wife had the grass fed burger. She enjoyed it very much. We will definitely be back.
Brittany Misuraca
We came here for dinner with my in-laws because they love this place. I ordered the fish and chips (which I typically love) but I couldn't eat it. The batter was soggy and not crispy and I'm not sure if the fish had a weird texture or if it was not completely cooked. Thinking back, I should have sent it back and tried something else. I know a lot of people love this place, it just wasn't the best that day.
Jake Oswald
Easily the best fish and chips in town.
Rick Johnson
The best service hands down and such a welcoming group of employees. The fish and chips were the best I’ve found here in MN and an authentic Black and Tan beer topped off our experience. Highly recommend. Street parking was easy and abundant.
Evian Rave
Best fried fish! Cozy atmosphere. Welcoming staff. It was busy tonight and we had a group of 4 so it took awhile to get a table. Groups of two had more seating options. Still gets 5 stars.
Connor Hills
If there are better fish and chips anywhere in MN, I'm all ears. To me, this is as good as it gets. I recommend finding a friend and ordering fish and chips and a shepherd's pie to split. Be aware of long wait times, especially if you are in a group of 3+, as this is a very small restaurant.
Tim Anderson
I’ve deleted my negative review because it really was unfair to Anchor. Their mask rule is not self mandated so I was incorrect. I give a negative review to the city of Minneapolis for the torture they’ve put business through with their mandates. Covid has run it course Minneapolis, let it go.
Food is good and when the mandates go away, I’ll come in and willfully spend my money.
Grant Covington
My all-time favorite for fish and chips outside of the UK. For dining in, Saturday night is less crowded. Friday night can be a bit of a wait, just put your name on the list and walk a block to Dangerous Man to enjoy a great craft beer while you wait. Takeout is never a problem, no need to phone ahead.
Stephanie Keppers
If possible, I would give this restaurant more than 5 stars. Our entire table had the Fish & Chips. It was FABULOUS!!! The best I've ever had. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was perfect!! It's a small place so there may be a wait but it's definitely worth it!!!
Jennifer Jones Carmichael
Great spot in our neighborhood serving consistently wonderful food in a cozy atmosphere. Lucky to have this so close to home. More than just fish & chips, but those are definitely a favorite. Worth the wait.
Jaime Nielsen
Love this place. Excellent food, people, and beer. If you've never been, I suggest going early or late. They get quite busy but I promise it's worth the wait. I should go more often so I can explore the menu more...but the fish and chips calls my name every time.
Marshall Mosiman
The staff are very friendly, and the service was quick. The fish n' chips are great, especially with a side of curry.
The place is a little small, so expect a little wait during the busier times.
I'll definitely be back.
Josh Stein
This place has the best fish and chips in Minneapolis. A great hole in the wall spot.
Pro-tip: order your food ahead of time, grab it, and head over to Dangerous man brewing and eat there instead. You won’t have to wait for a table and you can have a delicious beer with your fish and chips.
Faith Frederickson
Best fish and chips ANYWHERE. If I could bold that, I would. I've lived abroad in Iceland and England and have eaten plenty of fish in my day.
Even the best European fish and chips joints are bested by Anchor. That's no small feat when you consider that cod has to be imported. The way they cook it is brilliant: light crisp breading with none of that crumbly stuff. The tartar sauce is made in-house and is excellent. The chips are thick and to die for. Definitely must be paired with your beer of choice.
Wait times can be long so get there early if you plan to go for dinner.
Brenten McCulloch
Simple fish and chips, but it is oh so good! The tarter sauce is amazing, and must be special recipe, I thought it was a garlic butter sauce at first, and tasted nothing like ordinary tarter sauce from the grocery store.
Amit Mahajan
This is a nice place to be. This place is totally I for the best Fish and Chips in Minneapolis. The neighborhood is amazing and depicts the rust nature of the place. I am amazed to the point that how many people visit the place at one point in time. We had to wait for half an hour to get a table over there. Must visit place if you come to Minneapolis.
Miranda McKeeth
Fish and chips was AMAZING. This is a very cozy little restaurant that has a fun atmosphere. Only downsides are limited seating - even so, we were sat after about 10 minutes of waiting - and service was a little slow. Food was fast, but waving someone down to take our credit card took awhile.
Trisha Rowen
If you want good fish and chips this is the spot to go!! Very very good!
Ryan VanDorp
It's a busy place, and not an especially large establishment, so you may find yourself waiting for a table for 30min-1hr. My family and I decided we'd just order our food to go and eat it on the park bench outside. Sure, I would have preferred a table inside, but I'm still glad we ordered food. Some great fish and chips. Not sure what's in the batter (and maybe I don't want to know), but the texture and flavor of the fish was spot on.
Mando Monica
Hands down, my favorite fish and chips in the Twin Cities. They have other good stuff on the menu, though I love the fish and chips so much I never get much else. I do get the "mushy peas", all mushed with butter mmm. Great to dunk fries into. Good beers on tap. I love the old building and the NE vibe. Louder than I would like though I have been to much worse.
Randy Peterson
Fantastic! AJ was our bartender and did a great job. We had fish & chips and no one does it better! We are big fans of Kathryn & Jenny's team. Jill also helped in our great dining experience - she's awesome! We'll be back!
Alan Hejl
Some of the best fish and chips I've ever had. We had only a short wait to be seated, and service was really fast. Everything was well seasoned and crispy without feeling greasy or over-battered. If I'm ever in town again, I'm sure I'll be seeking it out.
Jane Hallett
I'm an English transplant living in the Twin cities. I have found this the best place to get fish and chips. It's an Irish owned restaurant. It is small, but has a chilled kind of vibe about the place. You may wait up to 30 minutes for a table, but people wait. I have read some reviews saying it's greasy. Well, hello, it's fish and chips.
The fish and chips are good, the burgers are good, the sausage options are good. I did have an Irish breakfast once and I wasn't overkeen. They do add beef fat (tallow, I think)to their oil for flavor, so vegetarians beware. Anyhoo one of my favorite food places in the Twin cities
Brett Hebert
Some of the best fish fry I've had in the Twin Cities. The place will be PACKED if you're coming in the evening on a Friday, so prepare to wait. They run people through pretty quickly though, shouldn't be long. Cool atmosphere, great fish, can't beat it.
Charles Kane
Amazing fish and chips. Probably the best I've had. Good selection of English and Irish beers, which help set the aesthetic of a British pub. Can't recommend the restaurant enough!
E Johnson
What a fantastic place, the food is fantastic! Highly recommended.
Janet de Lara
Piping hot delicious food. Shepherds Pie with Irish cheese and Fish and chips. Excellent with no oily taste. Wonderful staff.
Nathanael Chan
The food is so good. Got hooked (no pun intended) on the food truck but fell in love with the restaurant. Staff is super friendly, and the restaurant doesn't have a TV for sports like a lot of other Pub-style restaurants do (which my brother pointed out), which proves that the food is great and stands on its own. The fish is to DIE for.
Michael Gifford
I'll be generous & go with a 3.
Prices are ok, chips were good. Fish, not so much.
I'm feeling a little Gordon here, but if your fish goes a little off because of the crazy polar vortex & no sales, don't serve it. Take the loss instead of losing customers.
I had to roll my windows down halfway home with my takeaway. I had heard so many good things, but I'll stick with my neighborhood pub.
Still, the chips not under the fish were good. Hope it's a fluke.
C
Best fish and chips in the metro hands down! Great service, friendly staff. Been here many times over the last five years and they consistently deliver great food and atmosphere. Never had a bad experience.
They also offer Take Away!
Andrew Tralle
I know it's neither fish not chips, but their burger may be the best I've ever had. I don't know what they do to make it, but I think it must involve sorcery.
I've heard their fish and chips is amazing too, but have never had any desire to order it as that burger is heaven in my mouth.
Here's a tip. The Anchor is a small restaurant, so you may be in for quite a wait if you go during peak times. Go during weird hours. Their take-out game is strong. Order for carry out for a fraction of the waiting.
Marcus P. Hagen
Long waits (25+ minutes) to be seated, but the food is worth it. Get the fish & chips, with a Guinness. Or try a shepherd's pie. But eat it there. UK-style fish & chips doesn't travel well, or at least that has been my experience both abroad & at the anchor. The one time we couldn't wait for a table, we ordered "to go". Even eating in the car was disappointing, since the chips got soggy & the fish breading stuck to the paper. So plan for the wait, & go with someone you enjoy conversation with. You won't be sorry when you finally eat.

You can never go wrong with a visit to The Anchor! Hands down the best fish and chips I’ve had outside of England. And the full English (full whack) was better than some of the full English’s I’ve had IN England! This place is a Minneapolis staple, and if you haven’t experienced it yet you need to ASAP.
William Ziegler
Fabulous spot - been going here since the place opened. Best fish & chips in town. Only downside is the place is on the smaller side and there is frequently a wait but to be expected as it’s a “hole in the wall” in Northeast. Def worth the stop - absolutely recommend!
Tom MacPherson
Cozy, Delicious, Affordable, and Friendly! We visited on a Thursday evening around 8:00pm and found four spots at the bar immediately (all the tables were taken at the time in this small pub, but there were plenty of bar spots). Our motives were eating (after we had heard the rave reviews from freinds) so we all picked a different dish and shared. We had the Fish and Chips, the Meat Pastie and Chips, the Banger Sausage and Chips, and the Cheesburger with Chips. Everthing was delicious! We were impressed by the breading on all of the fried food (Fish, Pastie, and Banger) and it was done to perfection. The Fish was flaky and moist, the pastie crispy and soft, and the banger delicious. The burger was also done to perfection and we thought it was one of the best tasting in the area. We also enjoyed the Chips (French Fries) with some gravy and curry which were good but definitely not the star of the meal. We will definitely be back for the food. My only regret of the experience was not trying the Helicopter Burger, but I will net time. Oh, and the staff were very friendly and nice!
Christopher Italiano
The Anchor never fails us... This is one of our favorite restaurants. The fish and chips is the star, but the rest of the menu is great too. The cozy atmosphere is super fun. Great for a date, or a family dinner. I recommend The Anchor!
Trevor Prater
These were the best fries I've had in my life. I'm not sure how you could make fish and chips much better than this. The helicopter burger is delicious as well. Be prepared to wait on the weekends, but it's worth it.
haley s
Anchor was DELICIOUS! We went to try the fish and chips, which was delicious, but found our favorites were the grass fed burger and most of all the poitin poutine! Large portions, high quality!
Wait was less than a half hour for being 7 pm on Valentine's day!
Would (will) absolutely visit again! :)
Kathy Shuberg
I really wasn't sure at first about going and eating here no matter if a friend worked here I was wary. Although I have a changed opinion now. Their signature fish and chips. (more like French fries) but that's okay. It is really delicious as I am writing this review I would recommend it to a friend. They have very nice affordable wine to the non wine knowers and very yummy orange juice to go with said wine.
Pamela Sullivan
Service was fast and friendly food was a short wait, hot and fresh. Best fish and chips this side of the Atlantic!!
Kaylee Bond
Best burgers in town. I really like the staff. They are fun and make everyone feel special. I also like the Shepard's Pie and Poutine.
Chelsie GawneMark
This is the best place to get fish and chips hands down. And I don't mean the best fish and chips in Minneapolis I mean the best fish and chips anywhere. It's actual hand battered Cod with hand-cut chips and an amazing tartar sauce. Crazy busy during Lent but worth the wait. Great staff!
John Chase
Very charming place. Gives the distinct feeling of being in a pub. VERY friendly staff, and delicious food. Will be returning again in the near future!
Ryan Lapointe
Delicious fish and great service! Reservations reccomended
Nick Wishard
Amazing fish and chips; the other food items are equally as good. Anchor is my go to place if I'm too lazy to make food. I've never had them mess up an order and the food has always been fantastic. Do know that it is a small restaurant and does get quite busy on Friday/Saturday nights. Wait times can be a bit long as a result.
The Hangry Philosopher
On a Friday night during Lent you need to give time for the weight, at 6:35 we waited 1.5 hours for a party of four. The fish and chips were great, tasty, and hot out of the oil without being heavy or greasy. Friendly service and timely especially considering how busy it was
David Dawis
Best fish and chips! A little crowded sometimes, so off-hour visits are a good idea. Very pubby feel to the place; genuine atmosphere vs. other places that slap up random memorabilia.
Jacobo
Fried Alaskan Fishfry was good, not to fried and lots of cod. The salmon special was very good, cheesy, and was a generous portion. The waitor was great and nice (good mustache). We went in a little later and their was no wait. I would come again.
Chass Uthe
I absolutely love this place. You can travel all over Minneapolis and not find better fish and chips then what anchor has to offer. Always a pleasure to step foot inside this place. The people are always great and always very friendly despite being busy. One of my favorite spots to eat in Minneapolis! Eat their fish and be stoked on how delicious their food is!
Nic McPhee
I really like The Anchor for fish and chips - some of the best I've had outside of the UK. just had their breakfast for the first time and want super impressed. Fine, but nothing remarkable. So 4-4.5 stars for the fish and chips, but 3 for the breakfast.
Jack Koenig
There’s something special about the tartar sauce. The fish is cooked to perfection and there are some good beers available, but it’s that tartar sauce that puts it over the top. Very very tasty.
benjamin bryan
This place has the best fish and chips probably in the world definitely in Minnesota. Macs has nothing on it whatsoever. Always wild caught Alaskan cod in a light crispy batter cooked to a delicious golden crisp inside of grass fed beef fat. If you dont like fish they have grass fed beef burgers. There brunch they use cage free organic eggs. Does it really get better then this? They are the "real deal.*
Emma Deppa
best fish and chips in minneapolis! cool ambience inside too. we get takeout from here probably once a month.
Teppo Dama
I stopped in for their full Irish breakfast on a weekend. Service was prompt and friendly. The food was very good. They even had a decent black pudding. The coffee, unfortunately, was pretty terrible, but the overall experience was worthwhile.
Lisa Thompson
Beauty. A grand experience. Fabulous fish and yummy chips. How can you complain when you can have a tall perfect pint of Guinness? Service (Jill) was fantastic! Their meat pastie isn't the usual pastry but still flaky. Eat here!
Alex Widdel
I am a permanent fan of this restaurant for both the food and the wonderful people working here. Fish and chips is the obvious pick but I've never gone wrong with a menu choice, and a Magners cider makes for a great pair to any meal. It's often busy here - for good reason! Check google's current activity if you're hoping to avoid a wait.
Mike M
The fish and chips here is fantastic! For 10 bucks you get the best fish and chips in MN! The fish is light breaded and fried leaving a thin, crispy layer and then the fish inside is tender and falls apart.... I don't know if I'll ever go anywhere else for fish in MN. The atmosphere is pretty cool too with a bar, tables and a very small patio, which is probably the only downside.
Robert McBridr
The fish is in a class of its own. Wild caught Alaska cod. Fries are fresh and home made,
Not frozen. Hot sauce is thick and not the runny stuff. 10 stars!!
Kevin Bayer
I had the fish and chips which were large and tasty. Others has a pastie (twist on a Wisconsin meat pastry). Nice outdoor seating area (large tent with clear plastic walls). Very covid compliant.
bethany kelly
Great place for fish and chips! Love the relaxed pubby vibe. Grab a Guinness and the mushy peas are really nice too. Not a ton of seating, but it's an awesome place to stop into while up in Northeast near the nexus of super breweries.
Matthew Billings
I could rave for paragraphs about this place, but it wouldn't do justice to the consistent excellence in food and atmosphere.
Go, and see for yourself. Taste the quality and the intimacy of comfortable food. Get there early though, everyone else knows about it too.
Josh Bucher
Easy and simple fish and chips, but tasty. Service is good, but they sat us in a weird spot in the back even though a booth opened up a minute after we were seated. Would have gladly waited for that instead.
Joshua Phillips
The only time I have ever had an issue was a finding a hair on my fish. They took care of it right away and still remained super friendly. Great fish and chips. Staff is welcoming.
Kirstin Sinner
This place is amazing and absolutely worth the wait! The fish and chips are delicious and the beer list is great. Be sure to stop by and get your name on the list - I’m sure you’ll be back again!
Steve Ramgren
Great fish and chips! My wife enjoyed the veggie burger too!
Placed my order online it was ready when promised but not earlier so it was fresh!
Denise M.
Still a local fave! Nobody outdoes their battered fish & house-cut chips, and the grass fed burger is always cooked to perfection! Stellar service as a bonus! Wonderful people AND food!
Dan Foley
The Anchor Fish & Chips restaurant is a unique fare i.e. it is in a tent. It was usually cold tonight but the friendly atmosphere and my friends helped make the excellent generous batter fried cod enjoyable and ensured that we will come back.
Megan Keczan
I don’t get the hype? My fish was over cooked and the breading did not stick with the fish. Waitress was super super slow and just hung out with staff rather than greeting us. It’s a super small place - there is no way she missed us. Saving grace for this place was the poutine and the host’s accomadating spirit.
Charles Lee
Excellent Irish style fish and chips. Batter is a bit thicker than British style but still nice crunch and flavor.
Mike Roerig
An amazing place to eat. Best fish and chips in town. After many lunches and dinners at the Anchor, I have not yet had a disappointing meal. The prices are reasonable and the portions are large. I also appreciate that the Anchor serves Nordeast beer. Sometimes I finish up with an order of shepards pie to go, for the next day. The Anchor is one of my favorite places to eat.
Breana Lynch
The best fish and chips I’ve ever had! Everything was cooked perfectly. We will definitely be coming back.
Connor Graham
Best Fish and Chips I've had outside of Ireland. Tarter sauce is excellent too.
Anyone who doubts this place has no idea what good authentic fish and chips are.
Now that Anchor is becoming extremely popular, I hope it doesn’t change!!!
Connor Gjere
The Best Fish and Chips in Minnesota. Period.
Anchor Fish and Chips is a must visit if you're in the Twin Cities and enjoy Fish and Chips. Grab a Cold Beer. Fish and Chips (With Tartar sauce is my personal opinion.) And an Order of their Poutine and you won't leave disappointed.
Seating is comfortable and Service is amazing. Anchor Fish and Chips is truly one of the best restaurants in the Twin Cities.
Sarah Dixon
This is my happy place!
I suggest going for the classic fish and chips(don't forget to order tartar!).
You will likely have a bit of a wait at dinner, but believe me, it's worth it! You can always order a beer or a cider while you're waiting, too.
Best to go with a party of 4 or less. It's a great place to dine alone at the cozy little bar.
Perfectly battered and crispy fried fish, thick-cut fries, poutine to make your knees week, and damn good curry gravy.
I love love love The Anchor ⚓
Becky Degendorfer
Great service, great veggie pasties, yummy fish & chips, tasty black-n-tan, fun atmosphere. Spousal Unit says yummy shepherd's pie and meat pastie. What more can you ask for? Love this place.
Ashley Estrada
The meat pastie is something i dream about. The perfectly crisp batter on the outside and the juicy perfectly seasoned inside. The curry fries and gravy fries are amazing as well. Service was top notch! Interior is beautiful. Highly reccomend!
Anna D.
Small place, great fish 'n chips made fresh to order! Go midweek to avoid crowds, otherwise grab a Guinness from the tap and put your name in for a seat. They play an interesting mix of music too.
Jason Adams
Wonderful job on the build out. The space is great! The food...could be better. Our group got a mix of fish and chips, burger, and Shepard's pie. The chips are great, just as they should be! Shepard's pie had way to much salt. The burger was just a burger, bonus with the Irish Cheddar. One bite into the fish and water just ran out. Plain no real reasoning at all. The curry sauce was more like jelly than a gravy, again plain no real punch. We might go back but it's not one of those experiences your rush back to right away.
Mark Thompson
If you are anywhere NEAR Minneapolis, go and get the best Fish &Chips this side of the pond !! Fantastic food, great staff, charming dining room or take out. Fast, friendly service. Can't be beat !
Mary Gast
This was my first time here and it was AMAZING!! The fish was perfectly fried and the exterior crunchy and just the right amount of breading. Service was great despite how busy they were. We will definitely be going back!
Tim Johnson
Good beer great food and the best people
Ben Robetor
Best fish and chips in town. The burger is excellent as well. Fun assortment of Irish beers (and others) to wash it all down with.
Anne Kaminsen
Never disappoints. Terrific food and friendly staff.
brigette nichols
Fun staff, BEST fish and chips!!!
Tom Lutes
They've got a very clear traditional British chippery vibe going on. Everything about the appearance is spot on. But I have a couple complaints about the food: I ordered poutine and it seemed like the cheese curds had come straight out of the fridge (I'd like them to be warm by frying or some other means) and my friend ordered fish and chips and said they were bland.
Given another opportunity, I would go back to try it again. Maybe my experience was a one-off. But for a first experience, it was very underwhelming for the hype and reviews.
Cassie Glover
Super fun atmosphere! The whole feel of this restaurant was spot. I definitely recommemd this place purely based on how well the vibe of the space meets the brand and menu. Super quick and friendly service. Beware that everything on the menu is fried. Also, I was a little surprised on the short beer list given their location in the heart of the MSP craft brew scene.
Gabe Gabriel
We just moved around the corner from The Anchor and all I can say is “Wow!” The food was spectacular, from a light flaky fish and chips to the delicious and light meat pastie every part of the meal was perfection. The atmosphere was vibrant and social, receiving glowing reviews of the curry and the mashed peas from our neighboring table (and even being offered a taste) definitely worth a visit
Rory Stephenson
One of the absolute best in Minneapolis. Almost to die for, beats Gordian Ramsey's fish & chips hands down (plus Vegas sucks) . So grab a basket and grab a pint and prepare to be struck down with awesomeness. Love this place!
Kelly Lucis
Great food! Very cozy atmosphere, as well. Adequately priced ($7-$14 for most entrees on the night we went). Would definitely recommend but could see issues finding space if you have a party of 7 or more.
reed reimer
Best Fish & Chips I've ever had!
The chips were like steak fries and the fish was fried to perfection.
Surprised they didn't have malt vinegar on the table, but the brown gravy more than made up for it!
Kelly Brooks
It's the seafood equivalent of Matt's bar. Instead of a juicy Lucy, you'll get some awesome fish n chips. First time but it won't be the last. Aside from the wait, and sitting at the bar, pretty darned good experience.
Lauren Kelly
So amazed by this place. We got the fish and chips and the burger and I couldn't decide which I liked more. Sitting at the bar was really fun and there's a homey feeling about the restaurant that really draws you in. It's busy and there will probably be a wait, but you can get a beer during your wait, walk over to the coffee shop next door, or just order for carry out!
Andrew Zoller
Some of the best fish n chips around! Large portion sizes make their meals shareable as well. The meat pastie and Shepard's pie are also favorites.
Daniel Leutgeb
The best fish and chips in the twin cities. It’s often busy so be prepared to wait. Worth noting that they will not seat incomplete parties. I understand this policy because it’s such a small place but, not my favorite policy.
Jennifer Leigh
I love Anchor Fish & Chips!
I'm a fish and chips connoisseur. If there is fish and chips on the menu, I will always order because I love it that much.
Anchor has the best I've ever had and I've been iving on the east coast for a few years now. Anchor's fish is large, crispy and flavorful. The batter isn't soggy ever. The portion of fish is always generous and it's reasonably priced. In jacksonville, FL and Charleston, Sc, some places charge up to $20 for fish and chips. Anchor makes their tartar sauce here and that compliments the fish nicely.
They have large steak fries that are pretty good. I always order a side of curry sauce to dip them in. They changed their curry sauce recipe a while ago and the old recipe was better. I'm not sure if anyone has noticed but I did and was a little disappointed even thought it was still good.
I've tried their shepherd's pie here and that was ok. I won't be ordering that again when I know they have the best fish and chips. Every time I go back to MN, I always make a trip out here to remember what delicious fish and chips tastes like.
Joseph Kavanaugh
Awesome fish and chips. Tender, flaky filets and a nice light batter. Warm atmosphere. It'd be awesome if they offered lake fish. Highly recommend the Anchor.
Tom Docken
Perfect Irish fish and chips
Will Matthews
If you want a real Fish & Chip experience look no further then here. This place was delicious and amazing. Staff was attentive and kept the ball moving in this crowded place. Space is at a premium here, so expect a wait.
Eric Pitt
Fantastic fish & chips, better than I’ve ever had in England.
Melissa Danner
The best fish & chips in Minnesota, hands down. Go early to avoid the wait, but worth waiting for! AMAZING food, great atmosphere, friendly staff. Everyone should try Anchor at least once - you'll be hooked at first bite!
Jamie Fowlkes
Best fish and chips I've ever had. It was busy and it took a while to get seated but once I took the first bite of the fish I entered a moment of bliss. Seriously amazing!
Natalie Bathen
My favorite Resturant in north east, best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Also they have the best burger in the twin cities in my opinion. Thank you Anchor Fish. You are amazing!
Martin Hill
Best often means popular. Expect a wait but the fish and chips are the best I have found. They do not have an oven so some menu items suffer from deep fry vs bake if you know the original for comparison. The pastie is an example.
We had the fish and split a poutine on this visit. The poutine could have used a few minutes under a broiler to melt the cheese or perhaps much hotter gravy. Was good, flavor and such but more melty would have been better.
Luke Wiley
Awesome authentic fish and chips!
Lauren Crosbie
It was busy in there but worth the wait! And they have Kilkenny on tap!
Keo Robin
Good food. Just took forever to get. The Kitchen was backed up for some reason. I think they were short on prepped fish. Once the started cooking meals again I saw the tickets fly off the line.
Nader Banilohi
Best fish and chips hands down in Minneapolis! Not even a debate! If you haven't tried this place yet, you are definitely missing out! The location is in a peaceful neighborhood too north of Minneapolis!
Gee “Gee Emm” Marsh.
As an English ex-pat, I cannot fault the experience here or the delicious, made to order fish n chips. Why not 5 stars? White vinegar? Really? Also, mushy peas are not just frozen green peas squashed with a fork. Apart from that, you guys are the best. Plenty of other English chippy staples on the menu too.
Kelly Connell
The food was good and priced well. The menu is small, but I think most people go for the fish and chips (what I had). It was busy and there wasn't much room for the people waiting to be seated leaving us crowded at the door.
Jamie Peterson
Got the fish and chips. Portion size was great, on the bigger side. Chips were a little greasy, but the breading on the fish was on point. Very light and crispy. Environment is cool and casual.
Christian Wilkie
I went here with a friend once and it was a positive experience. The staff seemed gregarious--they remembered my friend by name--and they have a lot of fun with the pub theme. They operate well and their food was tasty, but something exceptional will have to happen for me to add another star.
lowell litzau
Starting with the staff, they have all been extremely helpful and friendly ever since they opened. Then the fish and chips are the best in the state. You get a really good pint for a very reasonable price.
Har T
Best fish and chips in town - I crave it often. I have eaten in their back tent/patio a couple times this summer and fall and their COVID protocols are top notch.
Tina Zedginidze
The best fish and chips I’ve ever had!! Small space so expect a wait. I recommend grabbing a beer at Dangerous Man brewery a block away while you wait.
Jeana Behnke
I don't pretend to be a fish and chips enthusiast, but when I have a craving for it, I won't get it anywhere but here. This place has great service, unpretentious atmosphere, reasonable menu prices, and I love the rustic decor!
Chad Fallon
Small, Friendly, Neighborhood restaurant. I come back here time and time again for the awesome deep fried fish and chips! Yummmm! It is packed in the evenings, so expect to wait for a seat. You can call ahead and order to go. Well worth it!
terry pernsteiner
Haven't had fish & chips this good since London.
Daniel Harris
Nice atmosphere, but space is on the small size. Large portions of fried fish, but the breading can be a little under seasoned. You must try the Curry Gravy with your chips! Whale Oil Beef Hooked.
Kat Hills
In my book it’s the best place in the cities to get fish and chips! The wait can be awhile but it’s so worth it! Try their original fish and chips and the shepherds pie. My two favorites. Definitely give this place a try, it’s the best!
Gabriel Merten
Hands down, one of the best places i've ever eaten Fish and Chips at! The breading is out of this world and their fish are crispy and flavorful! Grab a couple of beers down the street at Dangerous Man Brewing and head on over to The Anchor Fish & Chips!
Isabel Fajardo
Good fish. Fries are pretty okay - not crunchy or super tasty. Ambiance is fun, and the staff is kind. The biggest con: they don't have malt vinegar!
Steve DeBroux
What can go wrong with something as simple as fish and chips? Mine was cooked well. This small, cozy place has a real neighborhood-restaurant feel. The service was friendly and efficient.
Adventures with Rachel
Friendly staff and nice small restaurant. Love everything about this place. The fish and chips are amazing. I highly recommend going here. Sometimes it can busy and it's worth wait in line!
Matt Johnson
The fish is 10/10. Guaranteed the best you'll find in the Twin Cities. The staff was tremendous and even bought our table a round of drinks! I will definitely be back!
Shelbi Setchell
Best Fish and Chips in the Twin Cities. Staff is Always Friendly and Attentive. Sometimes there is a wait during prime hours, it goes by quickly when you chat with others in line, the food makes the wait worth it.
AL Woods
Some of the best fish and chips I've had in Minnesota! We came with a kind of large group and the staff were very accommodating. Would recommend!
Ellie Persian
Best fish and chips in Minnesota. Definitely the closest you can get to the taste across the pond. Crisp and fresh with hand-cut chips. Their fish isn't served in a coffin of hard batter because it doesn't come in frozen pre-battered bags. Most places serve fish and fries, Anchor does it right. Tartar's optional since it's a dish to be served with vinegar. Plus they serve Magners on tap! You will more than likely wait if you show up more than an hour after they open. So worth it.
James Raschke
It is a very small and cozy restaurant, it is often busy. And with good reason the food is excellent and well worth the 10 to 15 minute wait you may have to be seated. I live an hour away, and we make special trips to come eat at the Anchor.
Ajay
Great quality large sized fried fish. Loved their ambience. Good selections of beer. Fish could have little more flavors but all in all it was great place for lunch.
Branden “Brandingo” Eggestein
A great little chippy with a nice selection of beers. Our waiter was very kind. Generous portions and quick service. Can't wait to come back for breakfast. Cheers.
Sean McFarling
Excellent fish and chips in a very low key atmosphere. Was a little busy when we went, but it didn't take long to get a table.
Janet Thurow
My daughter and son-in-law lived in the area for several years. We went to The Anchor for my birthday, and since then I come back every birthday! The fish and batter is just perfect! The only thing changed, I would add malt vinegar to the menu. Plain vinegar just doesn't taste the same. ( I bring my own malt vinegar in my purse. Shhhh)
Julianne Montgomery
Fish & Chips are great! Limited drink menu and a bit noisy to have a conversation with more than two people. It was packed and there was a wait at 7 on a Tuesday night, but it was worth the wait. Items are priced right.
Simon F.S.
One of my favorite spots in the city! Great seafood and burgers and a pretty good beer selection. Prices are reasonable. Expect to wait a few minutes for a table during rush periods.
Leah Bradley
Closest thing to English food I have found in Minneapolis. My husband is from England and it is the only place that has mushy peas that are closest to the ones he had when he lived there. Great Shepard's Pie and I plan to go back hopefully soon.
Jonathan Itkonen
Best fish & chips in the Twin Cities. They also know how to pour a perfect pint of Guinness. I value that highly. Top notch, every time.
Nate Atkinson
Hands down, the best fish & chips in Minneapolis that I've found. Be prepared to wait for a table on weekends/holidays. Takeaway is usually ready in less than 15 minutes even during busy times. Check out their Facebook page for events where their food truck will be, along with any special hours/closures (e.g. holidays, official & unofficial).
Kor Pace
The wait was quite long which is understandable for such a popular place with limited seating. The fish and chips were great. The poutine, however, was absolutely terrible. We will be back but certainly sticking to just the fish and chips.
Sarah Wolf
Best fish and chips ever. I moved out of state and whenever I'm back in MN, this is the only place I must go to, and I crave it when I can't have it. Order a side of gravy to dip your fries in. Yum
Thomas Sonneman
Great fish and chips. Small place but worth it if there is a wait. Awesome comfort food. All made fresh feet from your seat
Matt Hinrichs
Relax! It's worth it.
If you go during a busy time and have to wait don't get mad just relax, it's worth the wait. You will be tasting the best fish and chips in the metro IMHO.
I ate there Friday, Saturday, and Sunday this week.
Mike Nicki
Great authentic fish and chips. Only down side is that they only serve white vinegar. Apparently an Irish thing. Being English I would have preferred malt vinegar. Small gripe though compared to the fantastic fish and chips.
Branden Hudspeth
The food here is fantastic. Small specialized menu. Don't have many options, but are good at what they do. Limited drink selection; beer and wine only. Cozy place and you will likely have a wait. Definitely check it out.
Linda Speelman
Good food. Don't order the take out fish though. By the time you get home the fish and fries produce so much condensation in the wax wrapping that they are swimming in a puddle of water and oil.
Sara Jensen
I found the food the be extremely tasty and not too costly. I've tried their burgers (which were very good!) and cod (which was absolutely phenomenal), and can't wait to go back! Would definitely recommend to others. :)
Casey Cotcamp
Good stuff, best fish & chips I've had in town! The burger is amazing as well
Kelsey Weiss
All the food we ordered was amazing. Even the fries are great. Regular food menu, but cooked to perfection. Get the fish or the burger. And the poutine! Yum!
L Carlson
Hands down the BEST fish and chips we've ever had! The batter was delicate and perfectly crisped, huge pieces of fish and the chips were awesome also!
Justin Kwong
Consistently excellent food and great service. One of the best fish and chips in the Twin Cities at a very reasonable price. The wait for a table is the biggest problem. The lack of parking in the vicinity is also an issue in the winter.
Nathan Puchniak
Some of the best fish and chips and poutine you can get in MN.
David Matos
Very friendly waitress, delicious fish & chips, and outstanding poutine!
Shawn Biggs
Definitely not the fish n chips I had in Ireland, but this is the closest I’ve had so far!!
Customer service was amazing, if I lived closer I’d eat here once a week, definitely will be back.
Alex Zahabizadeh
Great fish and chips (probably the best reason to go). We tried a few different things but the fish and chips are what made to convert from a 4 (good food) to a 5 (excellent food)
TATE MCROBERTS
Best fish and chips I've had in the States. Bar none. I've looked long and hard in each place I've lived since I came back from semester abroad in England ('98) and up until now I've been sorely disappointed. This is the real deal folks! The only thing missing is that little wooden fork thingy they give you over in England. But don't worry, they have regular forks. (BTW - I'm aware this is an IRISH pub, so sorry for all the English references)
Daniel Westacott
The anchor is a great pub with a very well prepared fish and chips. The helicopter (with fried egg) is also nice. You may need to wait for a table, so order a beer.
Samuel Hilde
Best fish & chips in the metro. Huge cod fillets for the best price around. Other great Irish dishes, like Shepard's Pie or the Full Whack if you head there during breakfast.
Jordi Kulka
Unbelievable fish and even better chips! Must go to!
Ben Koch
One of my favorite restaurants in the Twin Cities. I always go for the traditional fish and chips with a side of mushy peas. Good beer options. Always a little bit of a wait, but worth it.
Coll Harr
I want to give a shout-out to the crew at the Anchor today. I decided to walk down the street and order a breakfast buddy to go, because I couldn't decide what to make for breakfast/lunch, and suddenly developed the craving for one of their unbelievable sandwiches.
The place was packed-maximum occupancy and as soon as I walked in, I noticed they were short staffed by at least three people. Essentially, they had two people play the role of host, bartender, drink-taker, order-taker, phone answerer, and bus boy. They had one dishwasher and luckily, three cooks. Since I knew they were going to be a while even before I was told it would be a minute since they were backed up, I ordered a cup of coffee and squeezed myself into one of the remaining bar chairs.
Man-the cooks were fast. My ticket was put behind at least four tickets, all of which were for large, large tables, and I think I was there maybe 15-20 minutes, tops. I don't think I've seen anybody at the Anchor move so fast, and they were still managing to smile, say hi, and thank you to all their patrons. Somehow, they even had time to make small-talk with me.
So I just wanted to say great job, guys. The service and the food there is always amazing, but the crew there today deserves special recognization for being so awesome under a lot of stress (and seriously, get a breakfast buddy-no place in town makes a better breakfast sandwich).

Best fish and chips I have ever had! The rest of the menu is traditional English pub food. Everything is great, but get the fish and chips, you will not regret it.

Getting fish and chips to go here is like getting fish and chips wrapped in paper on the way home from a pub in London. The quicker you can get it home, the crispier it will be. And it is delicious!

Best fish and chips anywhere, doesn't leave you feeling gross very light and airy. The beers have improved alot, they still have the Guinness if you would like, but go for one of the local beers they have on tap.
caitlin blanton
The best fish and chips! The batter is crispy and salty and the fries are thick and fluffy. There is usually a wait, but it's worth it!
Allison Johnson
Every time I come here, I am more impressed. The fish and chips are perfect. I can’t seem to get myself to order anything else, but I bet it’s all amazing! Mmmmmmmmm ❤️

This place has literally the best burger I've ever had. Don't get the cheese, the burger doesn't need it. The fish and chips are also tasty, but I've had dreams about the burger
Jesse Johnston
Had some great fish and chips here. They also do a nice British fried breakfast. Good beer choice too.
Rob Caldow
One of our favorite places to eat. The fish and chips are amazing and the atmosphere is wonderful. Busy place, though. Plan for a wait if you go after 6pm.
jenny M
awesome fish and chips, great service and friendly staff. cute tent out back for social distancing. Had a lovely evening here. (:

Best fish and chips in town! Simple menu with variety for everyone. Get there early because this place fills up fast.

Great fish n chips. Layout inside a bit strange...everyone crammed against the wall with the middle are open. Overall though a good place for deep fried fish.

Now that I'm fortyish I try to choose either a pint or potatoes. Here it's a very difficult choice. It's fish and chips but it's more like FISH and chips because the giant slab of crisp breaded cod replaced all need to fill in the proverbial gaps with some of these pub chips and wash it down with a pint if Eire's finest cider or ale. I'll take it all with the curry gravy and the slaw. But now that I'm fortyish... Just the big slab of fish, please!

Really good fish and chips. I wish they had actual malt vinegar. Whatever is in there vinegar bottles is not true malt vinegar.
Daniel Torres
Amazing food, perfect fish and chips. The dining area is small so the wait can be long. On second thought — don't go, you're crowding it.
Tyler Tork
Our best spot for fish and chips. The chips are a too oily but overall, not bad. The cider is an excellent accompaniment. Interesting artwork.

Simply the best! Ive yet to experience the quality of their food, coupled by top notch service. The Anchor Fish and Chips is a top notch dining experience in its entirety. I highly recommend this experience!

My girlfriend and I ate here for the first time today, and it was good. She had fish and chips and I had the helicopter burger. My burger was all right, the fries were all right, and the fish was actually good, and I'm not a fish person at all. But the one reason why we WON'T be going back is that we boxed up HALF my burger, a chunk of her fish, and almost my ENTIRE order of fries, and I forgot it on the table when we left. We didn't even cross the street when I turned back to get it. I got to our table while a really young looking guy was bussing it, and he said he threw it away. Threw it away. All that food that we paid for. Gone. We paid $30 for a burger, fish, and fries, and he just threw most of it away not even an entire minute after we left.

Best fish and chips in the Twin Cities area - don't forget to sprinkle with vinegar. They also serve Magner's cider on tap - much better than from a can or bottle.
Zane Winders
Famous fish and chips were a hit! I had a shepherd's pie and was equally impressed. Great food, atmosphere, and drink selection.
Alethea W
Best fish and chips in the twin cities. Beer selection a bit limited, but they always have Guinness and know how to pour it. Staff are top notch.
Kirsten Olson
Wonderful fish and chips joint. Great wait staff, comfy booths and ambiance. Poutine was fantastic but pan on sharing with the table!
Brent Ashley
Absolutely love the food at The Anchor. You want Irish grub? This is the place to go.
Eric Laska
Nothing fancy to delude the simplicity of a great deep fried fish with chips. Always been a 20+ minute wait for us to get in, since others know it's great too, but well worth it.
Chris Yee
Was super busy when we arrived. But we wanted fish and chips and found the access to their food truck in the back best for introverts. Outdoor seating is great.
Chip Walton
Amazing fish and chips. True to their Irish roots, clear vinegar only for chips. But, we've been told off the record that they don't mind if your own. ;)
David and MaryJo Gurney
Great stop! Fish was perfect, great atmosphere!
Corvus Rabiatus
Glad to have that place in my neighbourhood. Pleasant staff, good food, the Guinness poured to perfection, a nice but not over-the-top artistic ambience and all at a very decent price. Make sure to arrive early though, because wait-times for seating can be long.

The food is amazing. Fish & chips is where it's at. Not to mention the service was incredible. Such great, friendly staff. Definitely recommend.

Best fish and chips in the city! Proper batter, nice cuts of fish, and tasty fries. - Reviewed by a born and raised New Englander
Andrew Orrison
Great authantic fish and chips! The chips are a bit greasy for my liking but taste great all the same. The pieces of fish are also quite large but can easily be eatin by one person. My finial word: yum!
Tobe Ornot
Good food, good beer, good price, friendly service. Need I say more?
Adriane Gilbert
Was craving authentic fish & chips. Ordered takeout. Food was hot and fresh, greasy (as expected) and worth the trip.
jessica venegas
Not authentic fish and chips. The chips aren't hand cut and are too thin, and white vinegar is no substitute for malt vinegar. The gravy tastes like a salty version of IKEA gravy. The fish was good.
Kynaru Helio
There is no better place for fish and chips in Minnesota that I'm aware of. I recommend getting a side of gravy for the chips, very satisfying even with the little bit of a higher price. Definitely recommend it!
Sherece Cocco
I have been meaning to come since they opened. Tonight I finally was able to get it done. So happy I did. I had the fish and chips. It was perfect. Next time I'm getting the Sheppard pie.
Brittni Dye
This is one of my favorite places in the Twin Cities. You really can't go wrong with the fish and chips obviously...its incredible, but...their Burger is absolutely perfect. Seriously, try it.
