10/10 experience - We came in for an early dinner and Mike took extremely good care of us. He explained the menu with ease and offered amazing suggestions. It was our first time at Sonora and we will 100% be back. Definitely get the Sonora bowl with either of the pork options + get some of their spicy hot sauce on the side. Their tortilla chips are very good.

The food was good and the drinks were even better . It’s a unique fine dining Mexican restaurant, the menu is small which is always a good sign to me, it means they focus on what they do best vs having too many options that are just ok. Only reason I didn’t give it a 5 star was they did not inform us the bill already included the gratuity , which for a small table of 4 I did not expect gratuity to be added usually I expect it if we’re a large group. Other than that it was a good experience with delicious food.

We really enjoyed the food here. I got flautas which had potatoes. I was skeptical, but pleasantly surprised. Also yucca fries are delicious! And you can't go wrong with tacos!

We came here for our anniversary dinner and the food, staff and ambiance was really nice. I ordered the beet and avocado salad, (as I am on a vegetarian diet) with chips an guacamole for starters. The chips seemed to be made in house and I think this guac was the best I had in all of Minnesota thus far. I am originally from LA and I travel all over the Midwest for work trying new Mexican restaurants and this was my fave for guac and chips. My husband order the carne asada plate. It was supposed to be served with beans and tortillas but he declined the beans and they forgot to bring him tortillas which was a bummer. I’d say it would be nice if the staff offered an alternative like rice for those who don’t want beans because he essentially just ate meat and green onions for dinner lol. I don’t think he minded. :) This restaurant also has a lot of various tequilas and Mexican beer on tap. The spicy margarita was my husband’s fave.

Awesome food! Awesome service! Everything about this place was very welcoming and there's nothing on the menu I wouldn't order. One of the owners was here mingling with everyone and chatting it up, such a cool place. Definitely coming back.

What a beautiful establishment. The owner and his girlfriend were amazing. The drinks were strong, the mini patio was comfy. A group of friends and I went and we had a great time. Definitely going back. Told the owner if he gets a hookah for the patio I'll be there every weekend.

I was really impressed with the classic margarita (not too sweet) and the veggie quesadilla I ordered. What will absolutely have me coming back for more is the YUCCA FRIES. Holy guacamole they nailed it. The texture is perfect and the dipping sauce makes for a heavenly combo. I was also very pleased with the friendly service.

The food is unlike any other Mexican food I’ve had in the twin cities. It’s authentic, fresh, and, best of all, absolutely delicious. One of the owners is frequently in there and will make sure you are taken care of during your meal. Please check this place out - it’s absolutely wonderful.

Amazing food and drinks. Great options for vegetarians and our server was very friendly and kind. Special mentions for the Sonora bowl, guacamole, tres leches. Would definitely visit again when in town!

My compliments to the very talented kitchen staff. They attempted to elevate Mexican dishes... and they succeeded. The appetizers are absolutely delicious, highly reccomend the Queso Fundido and the chilaquiles nachos. Their entrees are mouthwatering, the portions leave you satisfied. The cocktails are also very well crafted, full of complex flavors. Overall I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Tasty food, but a little pricey. Especially when entrees ($20-$23) are not served with any sides. Chips and salsa have to be ordered separately. Decent late night happy hour deals on drinks and apps, but be aware the apps are really small portions. Burrito de Alahambre was delicious, just missing a side. Carne un su Jugo was delicious, but small for the price. Yucca fries were good, but small. Order of chips and salsa was so small, I didn't even get to try them. Only enough for two of our group of 5. Don't skip the churros!

Food was ok-although the salsa could’ve used more salt, we do like how full each taco was. Service however has been slow and not attentive when we’ve gone for $3 taco Tuesday’s. No sense of urgency and had to hunt down other employees to get any service (more water, chip refill, etc.) Probably won’t be back.

I went here for the first time last night with a couple of friends and had an incredible experience. We basically did drinks and tapas on the patio and all of the appetizers we had were delicious. Mike was the bartender and our drinks were absolute perfection. Kevin was our server and he was a delight. We were having such a great time that every time we closed out our tab, we would need to start a new one because we weren’t ready to leave!

Overall a very nice place. Nice space-decor and atmosphere. Drinks were excellent. Main meal was good (although they weren’t super flexible with subbing protein choices and some ingredients were missing— avocado crema was awesome). Churros were good but the sauce had the consistency of jiggly gravy with an overbearing cinnamon flavor. Service-the waitress was very polite but drinks were slow. Nice addition to the neighborhood.

Great meal in a comfortable neighborhood restaurant/bar. Walkable in the Loring Park/Nicollet Mall area. We had tacos, which were fresh, colorful, and tastyjust the right amount of food, and a bargain price at $5/each. Highly recommendwe will return soon!

I had a burrito with steak, chicken and shrimp. It was a lunch size burrito. It was good but not worth it. It was $20 with no sides and the meat was a bit overcooked. My friend had some steak dish and said he loved it . The server was very kind. Oh! the aioli was very good with the yuca fries. I would still go back and try something different.

We love new eating experiences and the Sonora Mexican Grill was right up our alley! The food and cocktails were prepared perfectly. Appetizers prepped us for the complex flavors that were built in to everything we tasted. Spicy? Yes, but controlled so as to impart flavor over heat. This is a place that we “looked forward to going back” as we left the restaurant. Great service. If we could have bought every staff person a shot of Tequila or Mescal as we left we would have! Salute!

Good deals on margaritas and tacos on Tuesdays. The carnitas and shrimp tacos were traditional, while the pastor and steak had more inventive flavors. All were delicious and well filled. Mike is a friendly bartender. I'll be back.

We ate at Sonora last Saturday for dinner and it was amazing. We really loved the food - the tacos, chimichangas, and taco bowl dish were hot, fresh, and tasty. The drinks were also fantastic. It is a much needed alternative to the way overpriced Barrio/Rojo options in the area and I highly recommend checking it out. I will be back!

Will visit again. Will recommend to friends. You have to go for the yuca fries and Obregon cocktail... You should really probably stay for the ribeye and the mashed potato flautas. I'm a block away and Google never recommended this restaurant. I'm disappointed in Google. You won't be disappointed in Sonoran Mexican Kitchen. Also, for a little something extra, crush some of the peppery berries in the bottle on your table with the little wooden mortar and pestle next to it. Bravo.
