Reviews of Smack Shack
James Khuong
Always drove past, but today I finally got to go.
We had the Connecticut Style and Original Lobster Rolls, and those were delicious and had a really good filling to bread ratio. Wasn't overly saucy, and the lobster was cooked to *perfection*. We also had the Jambalaya (which was A LOT of food, very filling) and the Fish and Chips (which were HUGE, CRISPY, and the sauce with them sealed the deal). Oh, and the corn bread is good too.
For drinks we had the Hummingbird Margarita and the Hurricane (you kinda have to at a Southern style restaurant, that's where the cocktail came from). Both were good, the Hurricane was good and juicy, not too strong. The Hummingbird is definitely for people that have stronger taste buds.
The establishment was WAY bigger than I thought it'd be, and it was really cool getting to see the seafood getting cooked in the middle of the restaurant as well. The inside was really cool and dark, like the set to a movie with a sick bar too. We sat on the patio, and it gave enough space between tables to feel comfortable. The tables were also not shaky or wanted to fall over, so that's a plus.
TL;DR a really nice, casual, and comfortable place to get your seafood fix in, we are definitely coming back again!

Had a great dinner before the Twins game this week. Bar seating, quick service including food. Jambalaya was super flavorful and has a nice spicy kick. For the record, leftovers heated up great too! Crab roll was great, fries had a good seasoning. Server was friendly and timed her check-ins well. Will visit again!

We came here to have the lobster roll. Great service and outdoor vibe, nice ambience.
The classic lobster roll was very delicious, they made the lobster salad filling full of tasty, whole lobster. For my taste, slightly too creamy/rich. However, the buttered & fried bread that the roll came in was delicious!!
My wife's Connecticut style lobster roll was a bit of a disappointment as the bread roll was smaller and not as crispy as the classic. Also, while the lobster was in bigger chunks, it was more tough and I could tell that it wasn't as fresh as some other lobster rolls such as Mason's.
Cajun fries were really addictive, so value for price was there!
~$30/person

I was recommended this place and I am so glad that I went before I left for home the next day. The service was amazing and the food, hands down, was the best I had eaten in Minneapolis! I got the salmon over wild rice and veggies with pomegranates and I got as an appetizer, the crab cakes and they were so delectable! 😋 There were many other things I wanted to try on the menu as well so hopefully I'll get to go back there one day!
Dinal Jayasekera
They have plenty of seating outside. So if you don’t have a reservation, there’s a good chance the wait won’t be too long. We were promptly seated without a reservation. We got their crispy calamari to start. The calamari was fried great and it came with fried pickles too which helped balance out the heaviness of the calamari. We then got two orders of the crab benedict, a Cajun avocado toast and the Smack shack original. All the dishes tasted amazing but my favorite was the Cajun avocado toast. The shrimp was seasoned and cooked so well that I could easily have gotten another order of it. I’ll definitely visit again the next time I’m in Minneapolis!

Awesome restaurant to visit with my coworkers during our lunch break or dine in for date night! I love the lobster roll, lobster Mac & cheese, and the stuffed salmon with rice & asparagus. Great options to pick from and everything tastes delicious!
#Hashtag SteveJ
First time here. Great lobster rolls and seafood. The clam chowda was great, creamy and loaded with clams. Both lobster rolls were great in their own rights. So much good food. Service is even better.
Chris Nieves
Had a great time here on my lunch break while working in town. Everyone seemed very friendly and knowledgable. I went with the chicken sandwich and lobster mac & cheese. I absolutely LOVED IT!! I am not a corn person so the corn in the mac & cheese threw me off, but I ate it all up! I also had a Tap Mule which was quite impressive and tasted delicious. The bar tender was also nice enough to throw in a margarita shot which was also delicious. I would definitely come back here!
Sol “Papyrus” Badnews
I had the lobster bisque and lobster Cobb salad and the cucumber mint and revel without a pause! I only took pictures of the food. Everything I had was delicious and the services excellent! They're also doing a fundraising event for the aliveness project, so head on over and play!
Joyce Wilson
Lobster Mac & cheese was very delicious with fresh lobster. Lobster 🦞 was a whole fresh lobster they cooked at the restaurant and the lobster roll sandwich was so awesome and the Hummingbird Margarita was so good I had 2! We will go there again when we come back to Minneapolis
Navin Thakurdial
Great experience for lunch. I made a reservation for 4 of us at 12:45 PM on a Sunday, but we arrived 20 minutes early. There was plenty of seating available and we got to choose our table.
Dylan was helpful in walking through the menu, providing suggestions, and always keeping our glasses full.
The food was great! The California crab roll was delicious and came with a heaping serving of Cajun fries. The lobster poutine was also amazing (photo attached).
Lin Brown
Went for the first time to celebrate my daughter's birthday. They didn't disappoint! Server Bonney was wonderful and the food was awesome. Warm lobster roll, scallops with basil, salmon stuffed with lobster and shrimp were nummy. We also ordered a January special appetizer, jumbo shrimp bruchetta and it was very good. Birthday girl got a free slice of key lime pie to boot. Highly recommend this restaurant 👌
Marcus Do
The lobster rolls were pretty good, but nowhere near the best. Servers were kind and helpful. I’d say it’s worth giving a shot, but I won’t be coming back here regularly
Alexander Tierney
Wonderful seafood, I haven't had a lobster roll 🦞🥖 that good since I moved from Massachusetts to Minnesota. Very chill atmosphere and service was great too. Nice take on crab cakes 🦀 🎂 I enjoyed the corn almost as much. …
J G
Jambalaya plate, no sausage — very good. Spice isn’t overwhelming. Not your typical NOLA style but still very good.
Shrimp Po Boy — roll wasn’t a heavy dough and there’s enough shrimp to leave you with a couple stragglers even on your last bite.
Ken Gerke
Fantastic surprise find when visiting the twin cities. We sat outside in early Oct. The heaters on the patio made our dinner so comfortable. The ceviche app and stuffed salmon was the best I've ever had. Our wait staff was friendly and attentive. Fantastic atmosphere fantastic food fantastic service!!! Can't wait to return.
Hans Schmidt
I just got the jambalaya alone in a take out order because I’m a solo business traveler. It was ready quick. Easy pick up. Good flavor and nice hefty portion. The rice was cooked perfectly and meat too. It just lost one star because the Chicken had a weird texture. It was chewy like I was chewing on tendons or fat or something. Could have just been a bad chicken I got. Also I asked for napkins and cutlery on my order but none were in the bag when I got back to my hotel. My fault for not checking. Neither thing will stop me from going back. I’d like to try other things on the menu and maybe sit on the patio next time if it’s not too busy. I feel bad taking a table at a busy restaurant when I’m solo so I avoid doing so. Anyways, I recommend!
Mireille G
Overall the food was good and the service was fabulous. One complaint is that the crab claws were cooked a little too long, and the lobster tail was a little chewy, I’m not sure what happened with that but the flavor was amazing. Still deserves a 4/5 stars, just make sure your food is cooked to your liking
Diane Sullivan
Early dinner tonight, the restaurant was very busy, enjoyed the company of an old friend! Cobb salad and i had the shrimp appetizer basket. The salad was amazing and the shrimp really fresh, the french fries were hollow not much potato there, kind of like a straw.
Vitor Yamaoto
Awesome seafood and great mixed drinks. The crab cakes are super tasty and boiled shrimp is another good option. The skirt steak with the chimichurri was so tender.
Elisabeth Athey
Their lobster guacamole is AMAZING!! Visited here while we were in town and couldn't have asked for a better experience. We took every recommendation from our server and were not disappointed with anything. We'll definitely be back if we're ever back in the area!
Emily Cashin
Great service, great atmosphere, excellent classic seafood dishes. Peel and eat shrimp was perfectly cooked and flavorful. Lobster bisque was good (creamy and filling). Friends had CT style lobster rolls and bouillabaisse, all raved.
Daisy de Santiago
It’s tough to find a place with really good lobster rolls. Even more so when you’re in a city you’re visiting for the first time.
This place is it!!
We enjoyed the food so much that we went back the next day! :-)
We had:
guac with lobster claws
lobster mac and cheese
clam chowder
lobster rolls (a lot of lobster rolls!)
shrimp po boy
assorted beers
The Cajun fries were ah-mazing. They are really hard to resist even when your belly is full.
Finally, the service at Smack Shack is fantastic! All staff members — from the ones at the host stand to servers and assistants — they were all so friendly and accommodating.
Whenever we return to Minneapolis, we will definitely stop by here again. Thank you foe the hospitality.
rab abble
Managed to get a table by the graces of the lovely host here New Year’s Day. So glad we did. Lobster bisque was so good we took two orders to go. Lobster roll was the best one I’ve ever had.
D B
Good food. Found a very long hair in my lobster roll however. They did replace it with a fresh one and made their food expeditors put in a hat.
Patrick Kimbrough
Had a good experience eating here with my daughter and son. The menu was not overwhelming but it had a lot of items that make you want to come back and try based off the description. Only reason for 4 star was the waiter seemed uninterested in doing his job, just seemed a little fake. But the food was a hit, I will definitely return and try some other items with my friend group. (update) I went back and tried some more items. Service was better food was still bomb.
Celena Montantes
So before I travel I always search restraunts to plan my meals. I look for places I have never been and check out the menus. I found this gem online and thought I need to go there!! I actually overheard some people behind me on my flight talking about the Smack Shack and that just confirmed that I had to dine there! I had the lobster roll "the original" which was absolutely delicious and full of lobster. Definitely worth the price. I substituted the fries for lobster mac & cheese. I was not disappointed. One of my friends order the smothered burrito. She really liked it. My other friend ordered the bourbon french toast. The ladies split the meals so they could get a taste of everything. Unfortunately I was not sharing. It was too good. I did for starters have the fried green tomatoes that were 5 star! My girlfriends also shared the beignets. They ere delightfully surprised at how delicious they were. I will definitely be back next time I am in the Twin Cities.
Pete P
Walking in the North Loop area we came across this place. A good variety of food and drink options. The food was ok, and above average. The service was a bit slow maybe due to being short staffed.
Sharaya Pearson
Smack Shack offers a very cool environment with its themed decorations. Even the bathrooms have very cool wallpapers. The brunch menu was diverse, with appetizers ranging from fried green tomatoes to lobster guacamole. Everything my group tried, we loved! I will definitely return next time I’m in the area!
Kellen McInerny
Accidentally strolled up on this place checked out the menu and the atmosphere and enjoyed how lively and open the whole place was. Great bar service, excellent drinks, and despite this being a seafood place they have great steak.
Really enjoyed The State Fair menu, fried cheese curds and scallops were great.
Adam Kobler
We enjoyed our brunch on the patio here.
Surprisingly, there were brunch options to suit tastes from traditional to adventurous. I can vouch for the lobster scrambled eggs and their unique buttermilk biscuits. Very fresh, very tasty!
My companions had the biscuits and gravy and the American breakfast and were both very happy with those.
Service was prompt and friendly.
The patio fills up quickly, so reservations are encouraged. Don't expect quiet conversation here either. All in all, would recommend.
Matt Brock
Cajun fries were solid, lobster roll was top notch. Little pricey but worth the stop. Our server helped with the experience too. She was hustling and did a great job
Mike W
You won't find a better lobster roll anywhere, Maine, Baltimore, you name it. Trust me, I have tried. They make a good one at the Story Bridge Hotel in Brisbane but that's a little off the beaten path. Smack Shack uses large chunks of claw meat and a generous portion of chunk lobster meat overall.
Alexandru Todica
Really enjoyed the food and drinks yesterday night!
I recommend the 1lb shrimp 🍤 peel boil!
We had a good server for our party and did a good job!
Savannah Graham
I'm actually not a fan of seafood, I was here for my brother's birthday dinner and I didn't realize it was ALL seafood except for a chicken sandwich. but it's a very cute place and perfect for sea gremlin eaters lol.
James Mattson
Clean, beach side vibe, really impressed by the service and layout... not too crowded when I went and my gift cards were still good after 4 years
Lauren Riggs
I will definitely be coming back!! Some of the best, most reasonably priced seafood in the cities! The little bay beauty oysters are some of the best I’ve ever had. And the forager!! Oh my goodness so rich and tasty. Fun vibes, large lofty/coastal feel and full bar!
Jigar Brown
We ordered Lorraine's Crab Cakes for appetizers, Alaskan King Crab Legs and Whole Maine Lobster From the Broil, and then the Mexican Brownie and New York Cheesecake for dessert. Every dish was delicious! The crab cakes were well drained and went well with the slices of Fresno peppers they came with. The seafood was fresh; the king crab being the highlight. Its sweet meat worth the effort to break out .
Apple compote, and caramel sauce on our New York Cheesecake reminded us of a comforting apple pie. The Mexican Brownie is a favorite of mine. A hint of chili works well to counter the decadent, fudge-style brownie. Creamy cinnamon ice cream with strawberries on top of the brownie create a refreshing bite, preventing the dish from being too cloyingly sweet.
We'll be back for sure! The food, ambiance, and service were great.
Sabs B
If Google had a 6 star, I would start there! I have been here several times and will go over and over… The “vibe” is super nice - People, food, seating, other guests, regular guests, kitchen setup, etc, etc. In the last two years, I might have been to this place in triple-digit! This is also a place I would bring all my friends, visitors as my go-to place.
I am definitely worried about the kitchen team and Chef moving on to another branch in the coming days, somewhat the startup issues are visible.
Rebekah Kelly
My husband and I's absolute favorite restaurant in Minneapolis. We went the day after our wedding, that's how important this place is to us. The service is impeccable, seafood is the best you'll find in MN. Crab and po'boys are great, but don't skip the rest of the entrees. I get the bouillabaisse every time and it's without fail my favorite dish on the menu.
Mary Thao
Service was good. Food was ok. This platter was in the $70 range. Raw oysters were $4-$5 each. No complaints, this just isn’t my #1 seafood place.
Naheem Barnes
I was visiting town for the weekend and this place kept on showing up while I was searching for good food and man did they not disappoint. I started with the amazing mussels which were amazing. The drinks are a bit pricey but taste good and are very strong. Also, Jesse is one of the best waiters I've ever had.
Angela G.
Walked in at peak lunch hour and we were seated instantly. Service was great and quick. We received our food very shortly after ordering. Both lobster rolls, original and Connecticut style, were delicious! Fries were amazing too.
Lisa S
The Shrimp Bruschetta is a must (and it doesn’t have cheese)! The Mussels were tasty. My friend had the Lobster salad and enjoyed it.
The warm lobster roll has been hit or miss. The first time I had it, it was mouth-watering delicious. The most recent time, the lobster seemed overcooked and dry.
The service is always impeccable. I like the higher energy ambience. I will visit again, but there are other options nearby that have my more of my attention.
Charles Wiltgen
smack shack in north loop is a gem of a location! lots of great seating and fun atmosphere. our service was good at the bar, the food was tasty and the drinks were tasty as well. it’s seafood so it isn’t going to be cheap but it’s worth it, because you aren’t going to find many places like this in the metro.
Hector Salas
I will come back. The first thing I noticed was how big this place was and it was still packed. You can enjoy indoor, outdoor, bar, table, and party. The whole place is decked out to match its menu. This alone creates an ambience that many others lack. Food is amazing and the service is excellent. The drink menu is diverse and fun but don’t be shy to ask the bar tender to deviate. Come here to relax don’t expect in and out service. The menu offers individual styles but also party options. Prepare to wait if you have no reservation. Parking is possible but not easy.
Javier Barberena
Excellent atmosphere and good food. The service is great, and sitting outside and the perfect weather is the best. You will find street parking, and parking lots nearby. Don't park at the bank parking lot across the street as you will risk to be towed.
Ryan
Service was good but the food was either overcooked or undercooked. Nothing was prepared well. Lobster was way overcooked and tough. The steak was undercooked and lacked flavor. Dissapointted.
Roger Bounds
Great food and atmosphere. They went above and beyond to take care of our party and myself especially due to food allergies. The chicken jambalaya made for me was outstanding.
Moly Yang
Steam mussels were delicious!! The oysters were great but too small in size. Overall it was amazing!
Kyle Hanson
Great food and service. Visited on a work trip and they actually had some good bourbons to try on top of the good seafood. I would go back again.
Rachel Iverson
Wow! What an excellent experience. We sat on the patio and enjoyed some excellent drinks. I had the cucumber mint cocktail, it was refreshing and lightly sweet. We ordered the shrimp bruschetta which was so tasty, I wish there had been more than 1 shrimp per piece of bread, but they were great. Then we had the halibut and the platter of scallops, mussels, salmon and halibut in a tomato saffron sauce. The waitstaff was attentive and didn’t rush us at all, even when we ordered a second desert and lingered over the table. I can’t wait to come back, this was the best meal I had during my trip.
Kass
Service was astounding. Cordial, personable, swift, and cleanly. Food was immaculate. This is my favorite seafood restaurant in existence I believe. 11/10 highly recommend.
Joseph Jurek
I think they have the best lobster roll in Minnesota. Expensive but you'll be going back. Large portions when it comes to the lobster Mac and cheese. Highly recommend the cooked mushrooms as a side. They used to have a lamb sandwich which I loved but I'm not sure if it's there anymore. Fries are crispy but not over cooked and have a good salt to them. If you like seafood but with other options this is a great restaurant to visit and try. $$-$$$
Maria Tyiska
We're only in town 5 nights, and went to Smack Shack twice in the first 24 hours. Everything about the food was fantastic! I cannot rave enough... we tried a couple different dishes each time, and loved it!
I cannot recommend anything in particular because it was all awesome. It is a bit pricey, but totally worth it to go at least once.
We are people - people, so the staff was INCREDIBLE!!! They were attentive and it was nice to see that they appeared to get along with each other well, so the energy in the air was a nice vibe.
Alexis Warmbier
Atmosphere great, service great, beer selection and food was solid. I had the Connecticut style lobster roll, my first lobster roll ever and it was decent. Expect semi overcooked lobster in a really good Texas toast bun 6.5/10. My boyfriend had the lamb po boy and oh boy that was YUMMY 10/10, I actually encouraged him to order it because I’m not a fan of lamb but it sounded so good, liked it better than my own! Visiting from Michigan and would definitely come here again 😊
Jenny Fore
This place has a great selection of tequila drinks! Our server - I think her name was Margaret - was delightful and really made the experience great. We were kind of an eccentric bunch on a Sunday afternoon and not once did she express any signs of annoyance. She was welcoming and kind. Also, their ice cream sandwich desert is SO good.
Wendy Solnitzky
Our server was great! We hung out for a couple hours catching up with friends and she was fun and attentive but also gave us space and time to chat. She also recommended adding the blackened chicken to a salad and it was SO good. And of course the oysters were delicious.
Becky Wellspring
Shrimp gnocchi-top notch and like the most delicate gnocchi puffs.
Crab lobster stuffed Salmon - melt in your mouth delight.
Lobster roll - a bit sweet for the person who ordered but I can't attest to her judgment.
Collard greens- perfect!
A cucumber mint beverage was instantly refreshing!
Lance Custer
Great dining experience. We had a great late evening meal on the patio. Few other places were open or still serving.. Cocktails were all excellent as well. Three of us shared a shrimp boil with jumbo and smaller shrimp. Service was very good. It's not a place to go for a quiet or romantic meal, but it is definitely a place to eat if you are in Northloop.
Bronson Barney
Excellent night at smack shack! The oysters were delicious and the bread as well! I ordered the jambalaya for myself and it was huge! I ate my fill and was about half way done. The waiters were super great and were very helpful whenever needed. Loved the decorations and the vibe in the restaurant. Also got a cool 5 panel hat to remember the place!
Nancy Shade
My husband and I had a late lunch here. Our server, Dylan was the perfect mix of pleasant, helpful, and attentive. We laughed a lot. All of our selections (lobster bisque and lobster Mac and cheese for me, Connecticut lobster Sammie for him) had big chunks of lobster. Boston cream pie to share for dessert. Prices seem high to this small town girl, but I'm glad we splurged. 😊
Kevin M
Cool restaurant with big patio, bar and plenty of space inside too. Service was nice and food was pretty solid. Mosty Cajun and southern food. Would come back again.
Matthew Amundson
I dare you to find a better lobster roll. When a celebrated food truck evolves into a brick-and-mortar must-visit establishment, you pay attention! Perfect east coast atmosphere hosts a great selection of seafood varieties, beverage options, and yummy desserts. Always a joy to visit.
Jesse Deol
Great food and outdoor options. More adventurous menu than most. Love the Moroccan lamb sandwich and lobster bisque. Good beer selection. Ready to try their special menu (spicy options) that is only available until 3pm. Wish they offered this at dinner.
Jason Tomschin
Great stuff. Best wings and blue cheese, home made sauces. Lobster roll was great as well.
Tyler O.
This place is great. Went to the airport location so it was a little overpriced, but the food is prepared quickly. Shrimp Po Boy and Lobster Mac were amazing. Do yourself and give this place a go, you won't regret it!
Molly Spang
Went here on a Thursday night for the first time. It wasn't to busy and the food was great! I had the Connecticut style lobster roll and it was delicious! The Mexican Chocolate Brownie was also very good but it definitely had a spicy kick! Will totally go back!
Kara Mundy
This place is getting 4 stars because our server was awesome, and we sat up top which was more private and not as loud. The food was fine, but I probably won’t eat here again. The best part was the local pineapple soda, and local hot sauce.
Lori Schutte
First timers from 183 miles away. Spouse got stuffed salmon. Excellent although he didn’t think the pomegranate nuts added anything. The unique and full flavored combo of salmon stuffed with shrimp, lobster, asparagus and golden raisins with sauce is delicious.
I ordered 1 1/2 pound Maine lobster. Unfortunately it was one of those times the lobster stuck to the shell and had little to no flavor. I complained but was not offered a replacement.
The purified butter had no sweetness and couldn’t have been butter. At least not from a dairy cow. First was served butter with seasoning which initially disguised the poor quality lobster.
The baby red potatoes were good. The cob of corn surprisingly sweet.
Lobster meal got a 2. Stuffed salmon a 5. Service was excellent except should have been offered a replacement or discount on the meal.
My suggestion bring your own butter. It really was not butter as we Midwesterners know it.
Diana Eide
Excellent place for seafood - Lobster roll is one of my favs
Jeffrey Anderson
The first time I stopped at Smack Shack was just to grab a drink with friends for a birthday. I didn't realize until my second trip that there is a restaurant in the back. It's a seafood restaurant and the menu is great. I had the Jambalaya which was extremely filling, but was extremely good. The sides are also fantastic, and you could easily just order a few of those as your meal. It is a little bit more expensive, but is reasonable considering the quality and quantity of food.
Bronwyn Held
Great place for seafood. They have a good variety on the menu with something for everyone. Crab, lobster, shrimp, as a sandwich, soup, entree, or on its own! The food is expensive but it makes sense since it's flown in fresh. They even tell you where it came from. It all tastes incredible too, especially the bread. The portion sizes run big, I think, but I thought the leftovers reheated well. The atmosphere is more casual. It's a bit dark and quite loud though there is patio seating. It's a good place to bring guests. I'll definitely come back again
Chris Humphrey
Very good seafood and all good on the menue! Definitely recommend! Staff is very nice, helpful and fun! Crayfest was a blast and great music!
Brenna Rentmeester
We had a birthday brunch here yesterday and it was wonderful. Not only was ALL of the food delicious, our server, Margaret W. went way above and beyond to make our experience special. She was great with our kids and that makes such a huge difference for a dining experience!
Caleb Zimmermann
We had a lot of fun here! Went out to eat with friends and had a great time. The place was hopping! Would highly recommend the lobster Mac and cheese. We also got way too much food and had to bring some home. Fun place to go!
Amanda Taylor
Best lobster roll in town! Great vibes in the warehouse district and awesome food. Don't miss the caprese burrata salad if they have it. You won't regret that silky deliciousness. The sazeracs are a great complement to lobster roll and jumbo shrimp boil, too!
Precious Watson
What a lovely night out with my family. The best of a few top choice places to eat bomb seafood while being on a beautiful heated patio outdoors. 💘 A favorite spot that I will return to again. Forgot to mention that I loved the atmosphere, my server, FOOD aka mega stuffed belly and the no reservations part after 8 pm check in 😝 …
Ellie Jordan
This place is great for a lobster roll and sides. But, it’s incredibly hard to justify $35 for a lobster roll. It used to be $22 and now it’s raised $13 in a year? Nutso! If you have the $$, it won’t disappoint. However it can sometimes drip with butter and leaves you feeling like a load after eating it.
Jennifer Ransbotham
The only thing better than the food here is the service. We ate and drank like Kings and were treated just as well. May I recommend:
-lobster poutine fries
-prawn boil
There are delicious non-seafood options for those who are more turf than surf.

My wife set out to find a good seafood place for my birthday because I have been very disappointed over the years. She found this place and we are definitely going back. The entire meal from the drinks, to the appetizers, the meal to the desserts was absolutely amazingly flavorful. The staff is top notch and our server Margaret is in my top five for creating a memorable dining experience of any restaurant in the cities. Thanks to my wife for finding this amazing place!!!
Kyle Knutson
My wife and I own and operate 2 restaurants in S.E. MN and travel to CA and FL to explore new roads and restaurants.
The France Ave Smack Shack is on the top of our list and recommend to others by us on a regular basis. EVERYTHING we've had there has been top notch.
Tony Soeupreme
Haven't been here since before the pandemic started! Just a random thought to grab some pickup & we were sooooo happy with our choice! Picked up an order of Smack Wings which were juicy & flavored just right, the hot sauce wasn't overpowering & pair it with the Bacon Ranch dipping sauce... Beauty 😋 next up is my Connecticut Style Lobster Roll, I'm a fan of warm lobster rolls, with light flavor, all I need is a little squeeze of lemon 👌
Last thing on the list is the Smack Shack Original Lobster Roll, if you're more into a cold version, this was amazing 👍
Highly recommend !
Mark Olmsted
A bit over priced, food was a bit salty especially the French fries our server was grumpy at first like she didn't wanna be present. I had to wait for my breer on tap thinking our server gapped my beer, My sister in law talked to the manager and pointed out our servers demeanor. later the manager brought out us some wine shots as a kind jester later the server cheered up. Will I give it another chance well, maybe...
JING CAO
Although I always have doubts about eating seafood in the midwest, I actually had a great meal at this place with my family.
Scott Edensword
On the Triple tour here in Minneapolis/St. Paul. The staff very professional and fun. The food is beyond my expectations. Seasoned to perfection. Nothing needs to be added. Coming back next year. Prices are perfect for the quality & quantity.
Stefan Snijders
I'm sitting on the patio at Smack Shack as I write this. We came in for a weekend from Omaha, NE. I stumbled upon the restaurant by Googling "best place for walleye on downtown Minneapolis." The reviews looked stellar, so we thought we'd give it a shot. Walleye wasn't on the menu currently, but that was okay as there were plenty of other delicious-sounding options to choose from.
Service was excellent; the staff were friendly and attentive. We came at 4pm on a Friday, only waited a few moments, and were seated with our preference.
We had the lobster poutine to start. Words do not do it justice. Just try it. You will not regret, and your tastebuds will give you many thanks.
Then, the gf and I shared a shrimp po'boy and the traditional lobster roll. The traditional was picture-perfect. Cold, mayonnais-y, bread griddle-toasted to golden. Buttery, melt-in-your-mouth.
The shrimp po'boy was a delight. The shrimp themselves were battered and lightly seasoned with just a touch of heat. Frying shrimp (really, cooking shrimp at all in any style) is a delicate job, and they have it down pat. Balanced with mixed greens, tomato and a lemon aioli, it didn't need the hot sauce i requested on the side (it comes with hot sauce), but even with a little drizzled over top, it maintains a great combination of flavors.
This restaurant serves primarily seafood options, in case you didn't notice.
My only issue with the place is the small selection of non-alcoholic beverages and their prices. I paid $5 for a can of root beer. Good root beer, but still.
4.5 stars out of 5 if I could give partials. They are near perfect at what they do. If I lived in town I would definitely return. I may still anyhow.
Steven Lewis
Traveling through the airport, this place offered breakfast very early before most were open. It was amazing! Too much food to eat at a price fast food chains can't compete with. Finally a place where care was given to what they served, I'll be back!
Casey
I am not a seafood fan so I haven't tried the food but the bar area is a fun spot to go! The drinks are good and the tri-wheel is fun to play. It's been busy when I've gone so it's been a fun atmosphere!
Ann Bednarczyk
My husband and I sat at the bar! We ate and had drinks!! The two bartenders who were working that night were awesome and they both made awesome drinks!! The atmosphere is so fun and upbeat!! Great date night with the hubby!! We will definitely be coming back!!

This restaurant is purely amazing. The staff is always very helpful and takes time to answer any questions you have. I had the best Jambalaya from from Minnesota today. They may be a bit spendy but they are worth it. Our waitress Londan was awesome.
T L
We had the Calimari and Fried Pickles, they were a generous portion and very good. We had the Jambalaya, it was nice and spicy with a good amount of shrimp, sausage and chicken. We had the Prawn Boil, which had great flavor. We also enjoyed the Dayboat Scallops served over a butternut squash. We had attentive service and overall a great experience!
DaRon Saunders
The smack wings are out of this world! I get them every time. The fish and chips are good too, but the fish could use more seasoning. Overall, great service and food!
Nikki
It has been a long darn pandemic. This is the first meal we have had in a restaurant in more than a year. Tough for two foodies. We were staying in the area and could not book online so took a chance at a walk in. Had to be outside as this is a big step for us and inside is so not an option. They said it would be about 20 minutes and we had to wait outside the restaurant. Good with us. Texted us and seated us about in time. Got outside under the awning with the heaters going. Have to say I was heating up and taking layers off as the night progressed. Was an awesome dinner. We shared the decadent lobster bisque and then hubby had the shrimp boil and I had king crab legs. Funny that she asked me how many pounds I wanted. At $59.95 a pound, one is fine thank you. We both loved our choices and had much to takehome. Always enjoyable here.
Shannon Boen
Seriously what have I been waiting for?! First time and I’m in love! Greeted warmly by management. Whole staff works as a team! Food and drinks were Fantastic! Crab cakes, tuna, scallops! 10 out of 10! Already plaining a return! Keep up the great work management u ROCK and your team does too!!

We went on Friday night December 23rd with a party of 10. Service was outstanding, food was delicious as always and a great atmosphere. Thank you smack shack for making an amazing night for my family.
Ms. DaVis
1st timer ... The food was Delicious ... the service was amazing...
Tiki B
Great selection! Fried Green Tomatoes very tasty once cooled. Lobster poutine excellent. Apple cheesecake a hit. Red velvet boston cream pie a miss (especially the salt chocolate topping).
R R
Dana our server was amazing and patient with our group and we enjoyed the service. She hooked us up with blue cheese stuffed olives for the martinis. Everything was enjoyable and tasty.
Alisia Davis
Over priced for the portions and flavor of the food we ate. I had been meaning to try this for years, feeling like I had been missing out. Feelings now: been there, done that, don't need to do it again. The lobster Mac was amazing. The end.
Carla Wright
The service was great and the food. Our dad just passed away and we left the hospital to go to dinner. When we left we were not even gone 510 minutes and realized that we left our food that we payed $255.00 for in a carry out bag on the seat at our table on the patio. We called the restaurant because we were gonna Uber back to get it and I guess they had thrown it out that quick SMH. That is absurd that they didn’t even take it to the front desk to see if we were going to call back for it!
Lil Vega
Food was delicious and plentiful. Would definitely return the next time I’m in the area.
Pete Smith
The food here is amazing! The wings are some of the best I've tried in a while. Not overcooked, tender, not drowned in sauce. The sauce was buttery, spicy, and had a unique taste. For lunch, I had the Shrimp Po'boy and my wife had the Connecticut Style. Smack Shack doesn't skimp out on the portion size either. Plenty of shrimp and lobster on each sandwich. Great selections on tap of local brews.
Despite the annoyance of only having outdoor seating, Smack Shack was amazing. They've done a great job with the patio and heating. All servers adhered to COVID mitigation protocols.
Esther Lee
Fast and friendly service, dog-friendly with outdoor patio, and decent food.
Kris K.
Smack shack is a great spot for some surf n turf. We had the shrimp bruschetta (my 2nd fav item of the dinner), the spicy cornbread, the burger, and the lobster mac. The spicy cornbread was my fav item, one order is basically 2 pieces. The burger was meh, it was decent, but nothing special at all, which was a bit dissapointing because every other item was delish. The lobster mac was cheesy lobsterry goodness. The waiter also mentioned the menu would be expanding soon, so I have a feeling we will be back to try some more tasty foods.
T Tsen
Amazing food. The Connecticut roll was absolutely delicious. The cajun french fries were great. Service was beyond professional and friendly. Lovely outdoor patio with heaters. A must try restaurant.
Dustin Poth
We stopped here on our way back home because we saw it on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. The food was fantastic! We had the lobster roll, the Cajun shrimp appetizer, and the Halibut bowl. Everything was very fresh and full of flavor. I would definitely make a road trip back to this place.
Gustavo Valdes
I really wasn't expecting food this good. It looks like a place who is selling you on the ambiance but delivers great flavor with the food. We had fried green tomatoes, fried oysters, Jambalaya and Smack Bouillabaisse.
Anthony Scott
I walked in and was greeted by a very friendly hostess. I was sat immediately on the patio where I requested to sit. My server was also very nice and made great suggestions. However, I am not sure if it is part of the experience or the server was just busy, but the whole dinner took a lot longer than expected. This also includes getting my salad and salmon. In the positive, the food was delicious.
Bo Garrison
Love the atmosphere and the setup of this establishment. Our waiter was great. He was timely and attentive, but not in the way. He took great care of us. Food was ok. I had the fried chicken sandwich and got wings to go. Food and drinks were definitely overpriced. Would i come back again? Yes. It will be to drink or to eat, but not both at the same time, lol.... the pricing for both at once isn't worth the experience.
Miranda McKeeth
Absolutely fabulous! Food was delicious -- every single bite. The service was perfect! We could tell our waitress was a touch busy, but she came over with a smile every time, and was so accommodating -- we didnt even realize she had cleared our dirty napkins and replaced them with new ones! She wrapped up our food for us and made sure we were full and happy before leaving.
Smack Shack started out as a food truck, and was so good they HAD to expand to a full restaurant -- and I can see why!!
Will be back, again and again! Highly recommend 🤩
Ryan Larson
Came in last night for an amazing meal. We had a reservation and were seated quickly. Honestly it did take awhile to get water and for our server to come over. But after that Kaitlyn was very attentive and fast to get us what we wanted and answered all of our questions.
We ordered a ton of food and the lobster mac and cheese was a hit. My wife ordered the King Crab and one of my kids had a lobster and both were great as well. I didnt care for the lobster roll. Excellent chowdah. Brought home the Boston cream pie and it was delicious.
Overall had an excellent experience and would come back again.
Thuy K.
The best item on the menu is the Connecticut style lobster roll. Don't even think about passing this up! Apparently this roll was one of the ones that launched this restaurant from a food truck and now I know why. We also had the crab cakes, which were delicious as well. The California lobster roll wasn't great- I wouldn't recommend it. Also, I must mention that Carl was such a great server! Ask for him when you come in.
Reggie Domineck
Had to give this place a second chance and was not disappointed! Nikki was a great server! Spicy jambalaya was pretty good! Definitely going to try the lobster poutine next visit! Connecticut Roll was buttery and just mouth watering!
Ramona Jeffery
Great Lobster entrees, fun atmosphere. People at the table also liked the chicken. The lobster tail dinner was excellent. The lobster roll, their original menu item, was also very good. Loved the collard green/ham hock side dish. Everybody was happy.
Emily H
Smack Shack is one of those places that I've been wanting to go for years but never have quite gotten around to it. I finally ate at the airport location and thought it was awesome so had to check out this location.
You walk in and see the lobster in a HUGE Pot. The atmosphere is great here to go with just about anyone! We had no wait (6pm on a Wednesday night).
I went there with two other people and we all wanted to try their lobster rolls - so each of us ordered on and let the waiter know that we would be splitting them. When they arrived, they were already split! They were all pretty good. Not the greatest lobster roll I've ever had but by and far the best in the twin cities. Highly recommended for Twin Cities Lobster Rolls.
We had some of the best all around service we had had at any restaurant in a while! A+++ Service!
Tyler M.
Fantastic food, service, and atmosphere. Food was amazing, obviously we had a loberster roll (Connecticut) and scallops.
Matthew Wardhaugh
Great meal for my wife’s birthday. Went during COVID 19 as they have a patio open. Well spaced out seating, use online menus which keeps everything sanitary and streamlined, great service as usual and top notch food
Lynne Simons
The New England Clam Choder was some of the best I have had in the nation. Not a fan of the shrimp Po Boy it was over seasoned so the fesh seafood could not shine through with it's fabulous bun. Jack the bar tender was super nice and great service.
Lauren Aust
Shrimp appetizer and 1/2 of lobster is all you need. The patio is perfect too!! Other favorites are the lobster Mac and cheese, spicy cornbread, and crab cakes.
Joe Cunningham
Pretty nice patio! Nice Smack Shack lobster roll with large pieces of lobster - not just shreds. Simple eggs and bacon are good too!!
There was some construction across the street which was a little loud, but still nice!
S G
When it come to lobsters it's good to be "shellfish," Especially when these lobsters are scumptous!
The lobsters are soooo fresh and they are HUMONGOUS! By itself they are already delightful, cooked to perfection, not under not over, and sweet. A lobster bisque and clarified butter are provided on the side and each brings beautiful flavors to the star dish without overpowering it.
The service was friendly and efficient. My server was an absolute star when he recommended a local beer by Modist, "false pattern." This beer was a west coast type beer that was cloudy, sweet and rich in character. I loved it so much I bought two packs of it in Minneapolis! Absolutely recommend it too!
The restaurant are spacious and the decor looks like a bar by the docks with lobster cages as hanging lights and decorations on the walls. The ambience is chic and the lighting good, not too dark which I prefer.
David Olmstead
Recommended by friends and now I recommend to you. We loved the lobster bisque, oysters, crab cake, lobster guacamole (best of any place we have tried), lobster roll and desserts. The only thing we were not a fan of was the bacon mac and cheese. We are crunchy bacon fans and this bacon was not.
Other bonuses... the atmosphere and service was awesome. We recommend and will be back.
Jeremiah Jary
Waiter gave a little history of place. Great snow crab, on the expensive side for the experience. Waiter forgot to deliver wife's beer before check, but he made up for it by not charging us for beer. I would recommend this place.
Steven Castano
Tell me you need any other reason to go OTHER than it being called Smack Shack! Not only is the name great, but so was EVERYTHING else. The oysters were fantastic, the service was great... we came in with a pretty decent sized group of about 15 people and they managed to get us seated, ordered, delivered and eating quickly and it was DELICIOUS!
Robert Bradley
The wife & I went here last night and even with the covid-19 situation we still enjoyed ourselves. We try not to think about it when going out but have to be safe these days. Besides that, the staff was awesome, the food was awesome as well. We could not sit out on the patio but the table we sat at was on the wall near the patio. (Basically felt like we was outside but inside) Smack Shack is a wonderful place to eat til you pop with good lobster dishes.
Shawn Y
Never get the wings🤮 I figured they would have got this right by now. All seafood dishes are good. Jambalaya good.
Hoki Tse
Two words: Restaurant Week!
I had never been to Smack Shack, until my coworkers invited me for lunch during Restaurant Week. The lobster roll on this thick toast was incredible. $25 for an appetizer, lobster roll, and fries is a steal.
John Belk
Delicious seafood and wonderful service on a heated patio. Definitely dress in plenty of layers you can put on/off as needed, but if dressed appropriately it's a very pleasant experience even during a Minnesota winter.
Melissa Prenevost
I visited smack shack on a Monday evening with two friends. It was a great experience, our server Michael Ann was so friendly and helpful in helping us understand the whole menu, including specials, desserts, and drinks. She was well-informed about the menu. We ordered the lobster risotto, seafood stew, and one of the sandwiches in addition to many drinks and dessert. I would highly recommend trying this restaurant on a Monday evening, it was quiet and the staff was very attentive. The food was great. I had previously tried smack shack during restaurant week, which was a mistake because the restaurant was over crowded and the food wasn’t good. I’m so glad we gave this restaurant a second chance.
Dylan Corbett
I'm not usually a scrambled eggs type of guy... Bit these scrambled eggs were out of this world!! Very creamy and went great with the milk bread toast. I still have no clue what milk bread is, but it might possibly be the best toast I have ever had in my entire life. 5 star brunch for sure! I can't wait to go back and try one of their boils.
John Loubier
I've been here a few times now, and I highly recommend it! Love their lobster roll and their lobster meals! Great wine selection too!! The north loop area offer a lot of really great spots, but you should definitely check out smack shack!!
Amanda H
Delicious food, delightful service and a beautiful garden. Honestly what isn't too love? I got the surf and turf with medium rare steak and lobster. The steak was a little closer to rare but it was so flavorful and delicious that I can't complain. Flavorful but not over seasoned. The main dish speaks for itself. The decorations and outdoor seating is beautiful and fun. It is always busy on the weekends and can be a little loud. All in all, not much to complain about.
Elisa Song
The place was all booked till 9pm so we had to wait to sit at the bar area. They do a first come first served basis, which require you to stand around people who are finishing up and try to grab the table before others do. The wait was frustrating, and since we were from out of town we had no idea how it was supposed to work and lost our table to some runners and bag throwers a couple times.
The food was amazing though!!
FISH AND CHIPS: light yet crisy batter on a slice of haddock that was a bit on the thin side. Amazingly crispy yet not overly oily. Their tartar sauce was light and fresh, and didn't make us want hot sauce every other bite.
LOBSTER MAC AND CHEESE: one of the best ones I've ever had. So flavourful and the cheese was a little liquidy, keeping it nice and moist throughout the entire meal. I was so full but kept taking a bite after another.
POKE BOWL: surprisingly delicious. Tasted fresh and they seasoned the rice too very well and it added a tangyness to the dish.
LOBSTER GUACAMOLE: a little uncomfortable to eat because the lobster chunks were really big pieces. But I guess we can't complain. Had to cut them up so we can each get a nice bite size on our chips. Guac was great though, tasted fresh with a nice crisp finish.
LOBSTER POUTINE: I'm from Toronto so I know my poutine, and this one was absolutely delicious! The cheese melted nicely to make it gooey, the gravy was not your typical one but it worked well with the seafood.
ROLL OF THE WEEK: this one wasn't that good. It had lobster, lettuce, tomato, some other pork meat and garlic aioli... But it was the least impressive thing we had. The side we upgraded to was delicious though. Spicy corn bread with honey butter.
Service was a little slow but very friendly (it took us 30 minutes to snatch a seat and then another 30 minutes for our order).
Overall the food was so good I wouldn't mind going back despite the slow service and hassled seating plans. If you're in Minneapolis or visiting, I highly recommend this place!!!
dave ar
Love this food it had lobster in all its food. Great price. You can eat out on the dock area or eat in the restaurant. Good to have reservations
KM
Very generous portions. 3 giant shrimp on the bruschetta starter, and there was a huge mound of lobster on top of my scrambled eggs w/cream cheese on the brunch menu. First visit here. Happy to see indoor seating was well distanced, and good health and safety practices in place.
Sam Hickman
One of my favorite restaurants in North Loop. Reliable, quick, friendly. It’s a little more expensive than some of the other options in the area, but worth it in my opinion. They’re always accommodating for a larger group. I’ve routinely gone there with ever changing group sizes.
Patio is great in summer as it’s elevated from the street. Bar is nice, but big wheel is annoying and a little trashy. PBR crowd seems to like it though.
I highly recommend Smack Shack in Washington. (I don’t recommend the airport location).
Sophia Seaberry-Perez
I've been saying "I've got to visit Smack Shack" for literally... years... Soooo glad we went there as a 2nd dinner just before drinks with friends adventure. Top notch service, delicious food... AND delicious drinks! Another 2 times in one week kinda experience. Happy Hour is fabulous also!!
Urban RoninX
Great food, it's on the pricey side but you get a good size portion and they don't skimp on the lobster. Our server was able to give me some good beer recommendations and even provided a sample of a beer he thought I would like when I asked for a sample of a different one.
Phillip Harms
I ate the lobster roll and found it to be delicious. The serving size was generous and satisfying. I swapped out the Cajun fries for red beans and rice and found that dish to be equally satisfying. I'm sure I'll return for more.

Full disclosure on this review, I lived in Boston for 5yrs so I have pretty high standards for places like Smack Shack. Overall it was fine but nothing impressed me. We started with the Lobster poutine which was good. I also got a wedge salad which was probably my highlight. Good solid chucks of bacon and good blue cheese. We also got a Connecticut Lobster roll and a crab cake app. The Lobster roll bun was dry and falling apart, the lobster itself lacked butter and seemed a little over cooked. The crab cakes were fine but wouldn’t get them again. Just wasn’t a big fan of the filling. Beer selection was decent.
Jake C
Amazing atmosphere, the place looks like a lobster shack. Service is fast and kind. Food is good. If you do not like lobster it will be very hard to find food you like. The food was amazing, but you do pay 15 to 25 for most of the meals. During the summer they open the doors and fantastic to have fresh area good food. Old Bay is also located at every table which adds to the theme. Cajun fries come with most meal and are not very spicy.
P L
Amazing place. Staff is really helpful and nice. The place was busy but they helped us find the right table. A lot of good dishes to chose from. It’s a lobster paradise!
Frank Raasch
Great service, fun atmosphere, good food but a little pricey. This place is great for a special occasion but the value just isn't there for anything more than occasional dining. Had the lobster Lucy and although it was good neither of us could find any cheese in the middle. The lobster mac n cheese made up for it though. We love this place and will come back again.
Sacoaya M.
This place was absolutely delicious, the first time I’ve had a boil in this particular way but we would recommend!
Ean Strickland
Foods, drinks and oysters are the best ever! This place best for date and birthday!
Kailee Carlson
So happy to find a place with an awesome heated outdoor patio for MN winter!! There were tons of outdoor tables with industrial sized heaters over all of them. Definitely still dress warm but it wasn't too chilly with the big heaters.
Lots of food and drink options. The lobster rolls are delicious and we had fantastic service. A little on the spendier side but it was worth it just to be able to go out somewhere right now. 4 per table outside and they did not take reservations for the outdoor seating but there was plenty of space.
Thank you Smack Shack for having a COVID friendly winter option for those of us who still want to go out but don't feel comfortable in enclosed/indoor spaces.
Sharalyn Staricka
Worth every penny. The lobster rolls are amazing... totally stuffed with lobster! We also enjoyed red velvet Boston cream pie for dessert and that was wonderful too! Nice, friendly service. A++ :)
C Cliffe
Lobster in Minnesota was never so good!
From the Guac to the roll, tasty! Also, a good portion of claw meat and fresh crab on the guac. Tidy bar space, Empty due to Covid19.
Bobby Tao
We were here on a chilly late October night and sat outside on the patio with heaters. It felt pleasant. The food and service was very on key.
Danny Schoen
I’ve never had a bad experience at Smack Shack. They have indoor and outdoor seating. I have always found the staff to be extremely friendly.
Expect the prices to be a little higher than normal but not out of line for the area and product they serve.
Even food to go is delicious.
Anil Maddimsetti
Hell ya, the boiled live lobster is the best thing here. The sausage that came with the meal was probably a super large one.
Tip: get your lobster cracked, else you will spend some time fighting it.
Phillipe P.
Jambalaya was seasoned very well and flavorful, stuffed salmon literally melted in my mouth, so buttery and fresh. Good atmosphere, patio & inside bar available too
Joseph Chambers
Came to Minneapolis to see prince compound and decided to have dinner at the smack shack and I must say the food was awesome and plentiful..Thank you again for the excellent food and swrvice
Michael Jenkins
Back bar closer to the dining room was nicely quiet compared to the bustling front bar. No TVs but you have front row seats to see the lobsters being weighed, measured, and boiled to perfection in the steaming cauldron at the end of the bar Cold at the front side of the bar from occasional gusts of wind.
Strong mint julep.
Steaming hot fish and chips came out quickly. Let them rest for several minutes before digging in or suffer a burned tongue.
Crispy, sweet batter with tender fish. The pickly, creamy tartar sauce might serve to cool the fish down but might also become a trap for the flaky meat. One dip and the fish immediately bends to the will of the sauce.
Onions and perhaps oregano strong in the vinegary slaw.
Fries were sufficiently crispy but needed a dash of old Bay to be elevated to completely Cajun.
Nicely done key lime pie. Crust a little soggy but nice lime flavor in the pie.
Lance Pachon Mueller
I was very surprised with their menu options for the seafood. I was impressed with the flavor, everything felt fresh and tasted great!! I forget the name of the desert but their donut holes were absolutely delicious. The service was excellent. I will be coming back to try some other stuff of theirs and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.
F L
They have a great menu overall, but the lobster poutine is absolutely delicious!
L.D. Ayers
Great service, patio seating, food, and drinks. The diver scallops were a great starter. The Lobster Lucy is a Juicy Lucy with crab claws, caramelized onions, and tarragon aioli. Our waiter suggested adding bacon as well so obviously we did. It was amazing! The Lobster mac & cheese was also yummy!
Jolene Thibedeau Boyd
Staff was attentive AND conscientious about keeping customers safe. Mike was an excellent server. Food was so good! And when I left my sweater behind on my chair another server noticed, grabbed it, ducked under the patio railing, and intercepted us to get it back to me! It was good to be back there.
David Kisan
I know it says that Smack Shack has a 4.5, but I believe it should be a 5.5 because of Callie. This is a MOMENT in the service industry, and only a few loyal soldiers have showed up. Callie is one. She has hustled tonight. Gone the distance. Most importantly, made this restaurant a better place to eat and drink. Go here. You won’t regret. (If you ask for Callie)
Wendy Daniels
The food here is amazing - best lobster rolls (warm and cold versions), although they are pretty pricy. Have had some so-so service...today we waited for 20 min with no servers coming to our table while other people walked in & were instantly served. We finally got a manager to stop by who treated us to an app for our inconvenience.
Li
Great staff! Beautiful place. I had to ask for the fries to be warmed up and I took them to go, but I enjoyed every single one of them. ¤SPOILER¤ All their sauces are super spicy ¤SPOILER¤ So heads up! I'd definitely go back, for the staff. And the views anyways
Amanda Sunnarborg
This is a must stop if you are visiting or live in MN. You have to try anything with lobster! SOOOO GOOOD! The Mac and Cheese is to die for.
Mariam Rehman
Usually, we receive 5-star service here, but not tonight.
Let me start off by saying that the food was amazing! We got the lobster poutine, walleye fish & chips, and the lobster roll sandwich. The food was delicious and always is.
The problem was with our server, Tasha. She was very short with us and didn't introduce herself, didn't check up on us after we had gotten the food, and generally seemed like she was in a hurry all night. It wasn't that busy for a Friday night and they were not short staffed. She also didn't mention the daily specials so we didn't notice that menu until after we had already ordered. She was not welcoming at all.
We were celebrating a friend's birthday and I brought a cake to share as a surprise. I lit the candles away from our table and walked past the front desk and they didn't mention anything. However, once I brought it to our table, our server told us that the restaurant doesn't allow outside desserts to be cut here by customers, and if we did eat it here, they would charge us 1.50 a slice to have the servers cut it. What kind of rule is that ?! And why did the front desk receptionists let me walk to the table without mentioning this? I would have just lit the cake at my place if they told me.
Note to those coming for a birthday - don't bring your own dessert.
The server took away all our knives and after not letting us eat the dessert I brought, she didn't even offer the complimentary birthday dessert for my friend. We had to ask for it. We didn't end up getting it because we were pretty done with the service by that point.
Not sure if she was just having a bad day or if she was just racist (we were all brown) , but this was probably the worst service I've ever received. Maybe it was just the night crew because the front desk wasn't the most welcoming or personable either. Such a stark difference from the last weekend morning we went.
3 starts for the amazing food, minus 2 for the snooty service. We will be back & I'm sure it'll be better next time!
Melissa Page
We are from out of town and our family who live in Minneapolis treated us to Smack Shack for dinner on Sunday.
They were quite busy for a rainy Sunday night, but the service was fast and friendly.
Our 6 top got drinks, appetizers and entrees. Everything was fresh and delicious.
For sure Smack Shack added to the enjoyment of spending time together.
Scott M
As seafood goes, so far away from either coast, The Smack or The Shack is average. The oysters were spot on, cold and full of flavor, but pricey. The smack shack lobster roll was disappointing, nice flavor, cucumber addition is a nice touch it was the bread….. just wasn’t a nice roll like out east and it was over cooked. The others enjoyed their meals, the best flavor of the day was the shrimp po’ boy and the beer.
Monica Williams
Our uber driver recommended this place and it was a hit. I had a basic lobster roll, my husband had the cajun lobster roll. His was better but they were both really good. They are not stingy with the amount of lobster in the roll. The bread was so good, toasted just right for me. The fries were seasoned with Old Bay, but weren't overly salty. And the staff was great with recommending lobster rolls for us. Image posted is the lobster roll I ordered.
Justin Melcher
Amazing, simply amazing. The swordfish was one of the best meals I've ever had.
Kirstin Sinner
I visited with my husband for the first time this week and overall I thought the food was quite average, and rather overpriced for the quality. We started with oysters on the half shell which were very good. I got the Connecticut lobster roll and upgraded to a side of lobster macaroni and cheese for my main dish and it was good, but not excellent. My husband got the surf and turf special - the crab was good, but again not excellent, and the steak was cooked perfectly but lacked flavor. Service was friendly but slow at times. It was an enjoyable experience but we would recommend other places over Smack Shack when it comes down to flavor and quality of the food.
Shannon Thole
Our party of four had the stuffed lobster, stuffed salmon, lobster Mac and king crab carbonara and Mexican brownie and doughnut holes. Everything was superb!! Sam was our waiter and he was one of the BEST waitstaff we've ever had!! highly recommend
Samantha Rei
First date night since the Thursday before quarantine last year and we had a great time. Great food, great service.
Josephine Walker
Smack Shack is a favorite restaurant of mine because it's in North Loop, a very hip cool part of Minneapolis. Much more chill than downtown even though it is right next door. The venue itself is wonderful! Plenty of seating indoors and out, the staff are as friendly as can be (and very helpful with recommendations), and the seafood is exquisite! I go here for oysters which I absolutely love and they always have a good selection of West and East Coast. The key lime pie is the way I like to finish a meal and is tart and divine. Highly recommend this place when you want to treat yourself and a friend to great food and lively dining!
Dan Curry
Fantastic food and service! I had the prawn boil, very tasty. Quick and attentive staff. Also tried the clam chowder and it was also very good.
Katrina Busick
We've been here a few times, and highly recommend it, even if you can't get a patio seat there are plenty of options inside near the old loading doors.
I almost always get the New England lobster roll; today we went for different dishes: lobster guacamole to start ,chicken and waffles for me, and Zack Attack for him. While the chicken wasn't the most amazing thing I've ever had the flavor was good and they managed to do the nearly impossible, keep a crispy skin all over (and the waffle was really good, too)! The shrimp on the sandwich my bf had was crispy and sweet, and all the flavors went together really well (yes, I always steal a bite from his plate).

Listen. To. Me.
Just go. No regrets. Second time going and it’s jus as good as the first. Not pictured is the lobster rolls we had but they were incredible. Full of flavor, tons of lobster, delicious sauce. The Mac n Lobster guaranteed to be a special one.
Ray
The food was really good, service was questionable. Our server left our appetizer dishes on the table as our entrees arrived. They weren't cleared until later. My water wasn't refilled but she refilled my boyfriends sprite. A bus boy came by and took my empty water without asking for it to be refilled. Seems like they're trying to push people out. Food was expensive but I'm not complaining.
Mark Lungre
Amazing lobster rolls! We tried both types and they were amazing. The fries were delicious too!
Chris Hassett
Definitely holds up to the hype. Food was fantastic and service was great. The wild mushrooms side was out of this world.
Xusifixer
I went here a couple days ago now, I didn't know what to expect but I definitely wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was. The lobster was great and the snow crab was even better. We also had a king crab dip that was amazing. The service was perfect, never had to wonder where the waitress was. I'll definitely be coming back.
Hawaii 4 ever
The smack shack has the best food. Just awesome, the catfish is great the seafood macaroni and cheese is good. Nice atmosphere and our waitress tilly was great. Good customer service.😁 …
Christine Stutz
Fantastic lobster rolls! The BEST in MN. Our server Nic was great. Love the atmosphere sitting on the patio. We come back again and again!
Shanna Larson
Second visit. Just as delicious as we remembered. Lobster boil and lobster Cobb salad.
Peter Francis
The vibe of this place is incredible. The outdoor patio makes the experience even more enjoyable. My girlfriend and I tried the lobster rolls and were extremely impressed. I highly recommend going with the smack shack original. Pricing is very fair for seafood.
Jane C
Highly recommend the New England Boiling Party. Ask your server about it. Also loved the Valet Parking out front. Don't be like us, get reservations!
Geoff Enright
Great selection of fish and crustacean mixed up with different sandwich creations and pastas. Had the fish-and-chips and lobster mac-and-cheese. Both great, plenty of food. Cajun fries were really delicious.
I highly suggest checking out this location, they have some sort of betting wheel as well.
Tierralnr
Best Mac & Cheese I’ve ever had in my life. All the food at our table was delicious. Service was quick and amazing even with it being busy.
Matt Lally
Our go to brunch spot. The beignets are a must. The burrito is bigger than the plate, but personally I go for the biscuits and gravy or lamb Benedict. For lunch/dinner can't go wrong with the lobster roll (we personally prefer chilled vs hot)
Allie Hoffmeister
One of my favorites in Minneapolis! Their original lobster roll is always delicious. And so is their other food. Great patio as well!
Gene Hinders
I'd rate a 5 but they didn't seem to know that they'd been advertising on social media the special on the Softshell Crab Rolls...even after showing them the post.
On a good note the Connecticut Style Lobster Roll was deeeeeelicious.
C Grob
Great unpretentious place to have a good meal! Loved the Ahi Tuna and Lobster Bisque. Down to earth and friendly crew!
Mister DANG
Thanks so much for another great experience. Delicious, as always, and somehow got our favorite server (Nic) again; knowledgeable, attentive, and enthusiastic. Great food/drinks/service!
Robert C
If you're looking for great seafood without any frills, this is the place in Minneapolis. Nice selection of oysters and tap beers. The different combination of lobster, crab, and shrimp boils will make any fan of a low country boil happy. The lobster rolls are great, but we both preferred the Smack Shack classic over the Conneticut style. If you're craving seafood give this place a try!
Jorge Riera
The server did a great job of explaining the appetizers and we tried the fried tomatoes. I shared the main entree with my girlfriend and we were both satisfied.
Jennifer Chu
Came in on a Monday night and it wasn't too busy. We had reservations for 8 but probably didn't need them. We all ordered different things. Lobster Mac and cheese, lobster Lucy and the smack shack original lobster roll which is what I got. The bread they use is fantastic! Sturdy enough and slightly sweet. The lobster itself, while a good amt, I didn't personally feel like it had that much flavor. It ended up drowning in mayo as well and pooling under my sandwich although that might not always be the case because my bf said his didn't do that. Overall, worth a try but I wouldn't rush back.
Katie Knauer
Friendly service and great atmosphere! Menu is a little pricy for the serving sizes but to be expected for the area. We ordered the fried green tomatoes and the stuffed lobster from the specials menu, both were delicious!
Daniel Page
King Crab Rockefeller! Really nicely done seafood restaurant. Friendly staff, comfortable atmosphere, thoughtful beer list and key lime pie.
Ron P
I had the Original Lobster Roll. Most Excellent! I'm not a fry person and enjoyed the fries also. Not cheap, but very good food.
Justin Dybedahl
Came here for restaurant week. The oysters were OK but I was more than impressed with the rest of the food. The lobster bisque, lobster roll, andale sausage po boy, mac and cheese, corn bread, crab cake, and the lobster guacamole were all amazing. Out of everything the crab cake, mac and cheese, and lobster roll were the best. Everything was so damn good! We had to take the dessert to go because the portions were good and the food filling. I also want to say that our server Mikael P was awesome. He knew the drink and food menus really well and gave some great recommendations. He is the first person to give my wife a recommendation on a drink to get and she actually liked it. We sat outside and because my wife was cold, he rolled over one of the heaters without even asking. His service was outstanding! Overall we would go back for sure because of the food and his service.
Jeffrey D Johnson
I've tried the brunch there's steak there's seafood never been disappointed.
They went out of their way to meet dietary needs as well.
Reptar
Food was good, loved the sandwiches and apps! The outdoor patio was nice but kind of loud. Will definitely be back. Flame
Kailey Koo
Delicious seafood! I’ve eaten here a few times and have never been disappointed! Last time I went I had a lobster roll. It was amazing!
Nader Banilohi
Wow! This place has an amazing atmosphere and vibe especially if you come at night! The seafood here are all fresh and good. I would always recommend getting the lobster, but if you want something simple, get the shrimp basket!
Michelle Myers
The service was great! We went here for my birthday and we had never been here before. The waiter explained several different things about the menu which when we go to a restaurant most servers seem to have a hard time doing. We got the Lobster Poutine on the appetizer menu it was rich and full of flavor. We also ordered a Lobster Mac and cheese, Chicken po boy, and the smack shack original lobster roll. We arrived extremely hungry and none of us were able to finish our lunches. Everything was good I especially liked my Mac and Cheese. It came out so hot and goey and I got a small one and it was more than enough. Also the waiter bought me a birthday cookie out for a surprise. Yes this place is a little more pricey but that is what you can expect for the location and its seafood. I do wish they had parking for there customer's but it's downtown so that's expected too! Thank you Smack Shack for a great lunch!
Angie Simpson
My fiance has been raving about this place ever since he had it this past summer. We were downtown for a sporting event and he mentioned this place again. So we stopped in for lunch. The lobster roll was amazing!! We sat outside, which was heated. I'm normally a very cold person, but I was comfortable. I would definitely go back.
Alicia Jones
My order was prepared with Cajun, though I asked for no Cajun, so I couldn't dine on a portion of my meal. My companion was over the moon about his meal and dined with fervor. They are not stingy with alcohol, and the servers were pleasant and well informed on the menu. Servings are of ample proportion. We had reservations so we were seated immediately. The building itself offered a nostalgic and notable sight. Louder atmosphere. They offered outdoor heated deck seating, in which we elected not to partake this visit. The experience was overall pleasant as a pair, I personally would rather try something different than eat here again.
A. Brandt
Fantastic Lobster Rolls, fantastic drinks, fantastic service. I got the Crab Cakes and Conneticut Lobster Roll; both were super delicious. They also have a wonderful drink selection. I had their Old Fashion and seasonal Apple Cider for dessert. Highly recommend.
Also, their service is fantastic! Karl was absolutely wonderful. Very attentive and made sure everything was done right. I would absolutely come back here and will recommend the Smack Shack to anyone looking for great seafood.
Brynn Denton
Cocktails were decent, service slow but it was busy, so that's understandable. Friendly waitstaff. The lobster roll and mashed potatoes (flavorful but lukewarm, unfortunately) were both good but not special. I would give this place another chance in case it was just an off night.
Bill H
Have a great birthday brunch for my wife. I loved the Cajun avocado toast. Everyone else all loved the lobster rolls. And she was an amazing server, she even got the birthday girl a piece of key lime pie!
Phil V
Just received a special surprise from my daughter for my 80th birthday, Clam Chowder and lobster rolls. I wish I could rate the food higher but I can't.
A little background. I was raised on Long Island N.Y. and New England, so I have had my share of these dishes. The chowder was great, and the lobster roll was exceptional. Why, mostly claw meat which is the most tender and flavorful. They have brought the east coast to Minnesota.
P W
The Wolf Beach oysters are some of the best I've ever had. We got the Shack Tower and Scallops. Both amazing. The spicy cornbread was also delicious. I'm a whiskey lover and their makers old fashioned was also among the best I've ever had. Nic with the imaginary hair flip is great. Sit in his section.
Bill Hills
Had a great birthday brunch for my wife. I love the cajun avocado toast. Everyone else loved the lobster rolls. Angie was an amazing server even got the birthday girl a piece of key lime pie!
Torrence G
The atmosphere was just pleasant and the food so many yummy choices will be back to try more.
Bryan B
Hot food and cold drinks. The food was served piping hot and tasted wonderful. Be careful not to over order. The server sizes were large. Both items I ordered, the awesome hot wings, as an appetizer and some of the best I have had in a long time, and the jambalaya (as dinner), would have each made a full meal.
Stacey Ringness
This may not a place you want to eat. Hey we ate here on a Sunday night, didn’t seem that busy…. However, the server was not pleasant. The food was brought out at different times. One of the meals, chicken sandwich was brought out 20 min after everyone else’s. It is high end expensive restaurant, the food is good, but the service is definitely not worth the price tag. Plenty of other fabulous restaurants in town for the same price and quality of food.
I did contact the manager to make him aware and moved my rating from 1 star to 3 as he was sincerely apologetic and is sending gift receipt to have us come back and have a better experience. Will update this review after this happens. But it was heartening to know that management was sincerely apologetic.
Phuc Nguyen
The food is so delicious! They have a nice covered and uncovered patio seating area as well.
Conor Hayden
Lobster rolls are my kryptonite and the Smack Shack is almost always my first place to stop, driving straight from the airport. It's not cheap but the quality is there and the lobster is delicious. Their clam boil is also stellar, as is the chowder. This is probably my favorite place I've been in Minneapolis
Kim Mains
Connecticut style lobster roll is amazing! And the Boston clam chowda mmmmm.
And if u have room that red velvet Boston cream pie, OMG!
jonsonalex
Always great food. Any of their lobster is a must get. You won’t regret!
Parry
I had the lobster guac and traditional lobster roll. The lobster guac was extremely extremely disappointing but the roll was absolutely delicious. The bees was perfectly crispy, airy, and buttery, and it compliemented so well with the chill lobster that was coated in a light mayo based sauce. It was perfect
Tetiana Kotsehub
Love this place! Nice warm atmosphere, delicious food. They got verity of soups, good sea food menu but I love their burgers.
Kirsten Mason
So good! We got the seafood tower, cornbread, extra oysters, and several other appetizer items, all if which were delicious. The bar was well stocked and everyone from the gentleman that met us up front (Burt), to the friendly server in the bar, to the amazing bartender (Johnathan) were stellar! So happy we found this gem in the city
Michael Halbert
I should start off by saying the experience wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great. Several times we waited for our serve to come back and get drink orders, bring the check, etc, for 10-15 mins. I sat with my credit card in the bill for 15 mins easy. The noise level was out of this world for some reason. We could barely talk across the table. The people prepping food were taking shots of brown liquor towards the end and then saw them out in the alley drinking cans of coors light….our tab was $300 for 5 people and I felt like I hung out at a burger stand. We’ve been here a few times…but probably won’t be back anytime soon as the price isn’t really worth it.
Olha Rouse
Stuffed Salmon and Lobster Mac&Cheese. Delicious food, great service. Good choice of wine
Vyacheslav Lopin
The quality of food here is as deep as the sea they get the lobsters from. Highly recommend the Lobster Mac n cheese. The steak was perfect. But the Lobster Poutine is out of this world. I'm going to have to go again and get some pictures.
Joe Hernandez
Lobster Mac and cheese was bomb 💣 high quality meal …
Natalie Ginter
Embark on a magical food journey at the Smack Shack! Great date night atmosphere! Sit upstairs in the balcony for intimacy. The east coast oysters were my fave, clam chowda (ah-mazing), and the scallops were little pillows of deliciousness!
Takeisha “Keisha” Gilbert
Great food, ambience, service, and prices. The happy hour bites were good and the prices even better!
Calisha “Cali” Jackson
Great food, great service. I went during restaurant week and got 4 courses and found my new place to eat. My server was quick and had great customer service and the atmosphere was open and loud but great for drinks
Noel Voss
Wow! What a great place!!!!!! Nice wine selection. Amazing food!!!!! The Mac and Cheese was so great! The Lobster Bisque was delicious and I loved the Seafood Ettoufee!!!!! Nice-sized space with the option to sit outside in summer. Great restaurant if you like seafood!
Mikayla Rose
AMAZING 😍 best Mac and cheese I have ever had! Connecticut roll was really good too. …
Arthur Martinez
Why did I wait so long to do this? I am a fan of seafood. Usually Japanese. This boil is a classic. I usually eat my sea food raw, so I can tell when sea food is fresh. The texture of this amazingly fresh lobster is the gold standard. Started with great oyster, then to some great crab claws. The services gets 5 stars as well. From the Hostess, server and GM. Josh Thomas has a great reputation and still gets to keep the Gold Standard for a Five Star Seafood Restaurant in Minneapolis. Congrats Josh, you and your staff are great!
Leika Schmidt
I had king crab, oysters, and the sides that came with the king crab. For a half pound, you get quite a bit of food and this portion can easily be shared for 2. I've also had the lobster roll here and can verify its deliciousness.
Carl Henningsen
Had an amazing lobster boil. Fried green tomatoes were the best I've eaten. Inventive, delicious cocktails. A super fun place with great food and atmosphere.
Tony Joe
Taylor is a great server and made my dads 71th Birthday special! Thanks friend! Food has been holding the bar of what good food should tatse like and being adventurous.
Erik Malmos
I couldn't tell you the last time I had as good of service as we had at the Smack Shack!! Food was amazing, the staff was top-notch and we had one of the best seats in the house! If you are looking for a lobster roll in the cities... this is a MUST!
Sara Papendick Albrecht
Dayboat Scallops... AMAZING. And King Crab Carbonara, very good. But Chelly, our server = PHENOMENAL. Wish I had a photo to share of Chelly, our server... Love you Chelly - your recommendations we're spot on last Saturday. Will be back to see you soon! Love this restaurant...
(Photos are only half-orders of each dish since I split meals with our group)
Elizabeth Tam
The food at Smack Shack is great and bur portion sizes!! I loved everything I have had there thus far, including the lobster mac & cheese, fried chicken and the corn bread!
Jennifer
We got the seafood boil for four and it was delicious!! Fun atmosphere & great service! Will definitely return!
Blue Panda3
We had the best time here. The restaurant is very cute with industrial theme meets crabbing boats. The menu is elaborate and everything on it is delicious and well worth the price. This place will make you forget about Joe's or Red lobster and far exceeds them.
Kimberly Neary
Got the lobster roll and friend ordered the lobster Mac, both were phenomenal!!! Highly recommend!
Maya Thomas
It would've been 5 stars except for the fact I went in between 3-4 when they switch shifts from brunch to dinner so it was a limited menu and longer wait time it seemed. Food is delicious and friendly servers. Great drinks too!
Lauren Frazier
While Smack Shack is always good - this review is specifically for Margaret, our server. She was so fun and sweet without seeming fake or over the top. She was wonderful with our girls and all the adults. Can't remember the last time I had such incredible and warm customer service.
Joe Cuddy
If you're a sea food boil, or a surf and turf fan - I could not recommend a better restaurant in Minneapolis. Excellent food, craft cocktails, and service! Outstanding restaurant for any occasion or just a Tuesday night dinner date. Check it out!
Antonio Turitto
food is great, service is amazing. My wife's friend ordered a drink, and the waiter noticed she wasn't drink it very fast, so he brought her out a different drink instead at no charge. i appreciate we a place goes the extra mile like that and we will definitely be back.
Derek Anderson
Fish n chips was good. Service was slow and poor because our server had to take care of 20 tables which is more of a management issue.
Richard Moody
The food was awesome,a wonderful patio. Our server was fun,I could tell she was smiling, thru her facemask.
Emily Hoffarth
I was beyond impressed with the service I recieved at the Smack Shack. Drinks were tasty, and the recommended special from Christina truly tied together my experience. Sherry was just as attentive to our needs during my lunch. I will be making a point to stop by this place again.
Ben
We sat in the outdoor patio on a sunny, chilly day. The overhead heaters kept us warm. Our waitress was fantastic, checking on us at the right times and was super helpful with questions. The lobster rolls were delicious, with healthy portions proportional to the price. I got the Connecticut style which is more like what you would expect in New England. The tap list was plenty. Will be back for more.
Cu Dung Nguyen
Do you love seafood and a great vibe? Smack Shack is a must!!!! Living in the neighborhood, I might go here a little too much. Either its for lunch, dinner, or a nighttime vibe. You will always have a good time here, with amazing food, drinks, and people.
Gina Rosa
The lobster roll is delicious... Planning to come back in a few days... They have great service wit a smile and lovely people...
蛾Notmin
The food was phenomenal in both flavor and presentation. Portions were generous without being overwhelming and the service was attentive and professional. I had the stuffed salmon entree and every bit of it was a delight to the senses. If you love seafood and you're looking for a place to impress someone special for the evening, or to celebrate a special occasion, this place is well worth the price.
It is, however, worth noting that it is relatively difficult to find parking in the area, so be prepared to have to circle the area a bit and walk a few blocks. If you're going for dinner, it's best to go a little earlier in the evening to secure a decent spot. You won't regret it.
Garrett Gilmour
The service was wonderful. I didn’t like my food and the server was so accommodating and had no hesitation to bring me something else. After that mix up the food I got after was amazing. I would definitely try it out for a one time experience. Also a little spendy but the service made it worth it.
Mr Robo
Lobster roll is too dry and bland. Yes there is a good amount but lacks flavor and it's too dry to finish. Overcooked. Needs sauce, butter, mayo, lemon instead of just laid out on dry bread. Not like growing up in New England.
Brigitte B
This place came highly recommended and it did not disappoint! The patio was a charming place for a warm summer evening dinner. Our server, Jill, was attentive and so sweet with our dog. They even brought out water for him and a bone. I had my fair share of lobster rolls while living in New England and I never expected one of the best lobster rolls I've ever had to come from Minneapolis! The lobster bisque and lobster roll were incredible but it was the ambiance and service that will keep us coming back!
Vince Sonson
I was a tourist, and this place felt like a tourist trap. I was right. Apparently, it gained its renown as a food truck with awesome lobster rolls, so I got one. It was at best average. They do have a nice outdoor seating area and a good selection of local beers, so it gets a three instead of a two.
Robert S
Excellent food and service! We ate on the covered patio and recommend it. The waiter was very friendly. The two lobster rolls are a-mazing! Be sure to try both.
Joe Kerkering
Good selection of seafood in a welcoming atmosphere. Somewhat expensive, but that seems to be the case everywhere now.
George Miller
Very nice place, was disappointed with the Smack Shack original, lobster sandwich basically. I love lobster but it had no flavor and the bread got so soggy. Kind of a waste of 28.00. The Jumbo shrimp boil was amazing as well as the shrimp cocktail.
Patrick Sundlof
we followed guy fire y here and yum yum yum flavortown!
thanks from Glad rags tour 2022!
Bob Tyler
One of my favorite Minneapolis restaurants for a fun dinner and drinks evening with friends. Excellent lobster, mussels, salads, and craft beers. Book a table to assure your passage and use their convenient valet parking for no hassle in this popular area of the North Loop.
Lynn
Lobster roll was bland, 1029 does it better. On a separate visit I got the cajun lobster roll, it was the "roll of the week" amazing. Try the lobster lucy with cajun fries, you won't regret it!
Ayesha Ahmed
Fresh and flavorful food. Our table ordered halibut, cob salad, lobster roll, cajun fries and lobster mac & cheese. All the items were very good. The server was really helpful, picked up quickly on our dietary restrictions and made menu suggestions accordingly.
Rachel Ferrara
Many tasty options, most meant for sharing. Get there for happy hour and try everything! I liked the bloody mary board to share and make your own
Ronmell Fuentes
King crab legs, uffff the best :)
Anna Liza McDaniel Anunciacion
We had the Lobster Roll but it's not the same from last year. Less food and more expensive.
Vince P
Very good food & drinks at fair prices. It's a very cool vibe; they dropped the seafood boil in the pot in front of where we were seated.
Samuel Schneider
It was a great dinner. The seafood was fresh and the staff was awesome. I was a big fan of the poutine, I would definitely order that again!
Daniel Stenzel
This place has been so fun every time I have gone! Food excellent also has a annual crayfish boil.
Frank Zheng
Does anyone ever feel nauseous after having their lobsters??
We two felt nauseous and one vomited throughout the night after having Lobster Poutine and the Connecticut Style lobster roll…
Good service and the food tasted yummy though.
quintin arnwine
This is a great place to dine with friends and family. The food is great especially the scallops an mac and cheese. We shared our food so I recommend everything you see. The burger, jambalaya, stuffed salmon The scallops my favorite. The drinks are good also but whoever made the Morita put way too much lime or what ever it was in there. Overall great experience. If I get to come back from Houston I'll surely come back. But it would be easier if they open one in Houston.
Yunpeng Liu
Very good service. Very tasty seafood.
Teddy Bear
I need a redo of this place. Service was beyond outstanding from the entire crew. I sat on the upper level and had a great view seeing what’s coming out of the kitchen. Best greens I’ve ever had from a restaurant. The fried green tomatoes were amazing. I order the lobster boil and the lobster Mac and cheese. Was not a fan of neither. It was over cooked and tough. The potatoes with the meal was bland. The lobster Mac and cheese lacked flavor and the lobster was also dry. The fish and chips were great and some of the best tartare sauce hands down.
James Van Zandt
Great lobster roll, and everything else I've tried has been good too. Great hurricane.
S F
We have frequented this location quite a few times especially when the weather has been nice out. I am not a seafood lover but I have enjoyed the options for non seafood people. My wife has only said great praises of the food.
Joan Gooden-Charleston
From the host who greeted me at the door to our wait person, Taylor, our experience was exceptional. The food FANTASTIC!!! I can't wait to return. Again, a special SHOUT OUT to Taylor for the wonderful service!!!
Matt Gorden
This place was good. It was not great though. The food tasted really good, and the drinks came quickly. However for 2 people to eat I paid about $180. The food and drinks were not $180 good. I have only been there once, so I would try it again just to make sure if its worth it or not. However I likely wouldn't be back any time soon since its so expensive.
Marc Faubert
It's been a while since we've been here. Still great seafood offerings and at a reasonable price. Service from Margaret was wonderful, as was the service recovery after a small problem with the food. One star off because it was so cold at the back of the restaurant.
Tracy Bouvette
Great job from bar keep! Made us feel at home and well taken care of.
Carl Busch
The food was decent but the prices where a little crazy. I don't mind paying higher for seafood downtown but titos and soda $9? That is really crazy. Spent over $100 And was still hungry when we left.
Brianna Hippe
Check in process is a complete mess! They need more organization so they don’t have everyone piling in the lobby at once. There is no system. Ordered the Connecticut roll and it was very bland with only a handful of lobster. Not worth $27. Service was okay. We will give them another chance.
Christopher Italiano
Smack Shack is a great destination for fresh and delicious seafood in Minneapolis. They have a casual atmosphere that is great for a night out. Their dishes are simple and let the flavors of the ingredients shine through. They offer indoor and outdoor seating plus take out. I have dined at Smack Shack several times and recommend you do too!
Nancy Popkins
Let's start with the customer service our waitress was so nice, very attentive and very kind. Food was much more expected the ahi tuna was absolutely wonderful crabcakes are a go to as well, and the drinks nice and stiff. I would highly recommend making reservations.
A C
Go there just for Snow Crab boil, and they're always delicious!
Robert Karlen
Food was excellent, dinner was on the spendy side. However, the lobster was extremely fresh so is the crab. The jambalaya was perfect, and they will spice up anything you want if you ask.
Jean Mitchell
I was very disappointed today at the Bloomington Smack Shack, especially after reading good reviews. I treated a friend to a birthday lunch spending over $230 for 2 king crab boils ($75@). The crab was soggy and flavorless as were the red potatoes. No flavor at all! Huh?? I can do this at home! The wet crab rested on the toast making a soggy mess. Service was slow, hostesses neglectful and even rude (I had to go to them to ask for dessert menus). Don't waste your money or appetite here. Even Joe's Crab Shack treated crab with some respect!
mark stader
Interesting cajun lobster roll and good local beers for someone from out of town.
sharon p
This place was our very last meal before leaving the city to return home and we made a good choice. The jambalaya (spicy) is definitely enough for 2 servings and we had a host of various appetizers, including crab cakes and fried green tomatoes. Our server was wonderful and considerate.
Nick G
Quality and taste was really good, but the price for what you get is pretty steep, it'll run you 25 for a pretty small lobster roll, so expect to get an appetizer. With drinks and tip expect a bill of upwards to 150-200 for two, depending on your choices for entrees.
Ken Pannier
Every menu item we ordered was great !
Pat Clusman
Seafood lovers in the family like this place. I had the fried chicken and it was prepared well. Busy on a Sunday evening but the service was still very good.
Jaclyn Williams
Smack Shack has thee best Lobster roll I've ever had, I have been coming to this location for years and tried so many different menu items and never been disappointed with the flavor of any dish . Highly recommend visiting the north loop location.
Sandy Schmoker
Connecticut style lobster roll was way better than I thought it would be so I was pleasantly surprised.
Mike Oberfeld
Always excellent here. They're taking on covid with many, many heaters on their first-come, first-serve outside seating area. We were very warm at our table with an air temp of 45 and a strong wind.
Food is outstanding. Our table had oysters, mussels, jambalaya, scallops and the lobster roll they're known for. There are many non-seafood options that look really solid as well.
Highly recommend!
David Truong
The fries were crispy and delicious and the poke lettuce tacos were fresh. I enjoyed my time there.
Derek Anderson
Slow service. It wasn't the server's fault, it was management as the server had way too many tables but all the customers are getting teed off.
Bob Thomaschek
Great place to eat, good food and you don't walk away hungry..
Sam S.
Amazing food and atmosphere. The bouillabaisse was outstanding!
Lasiter Medical
It was okay. Not the best food but it was relatively quick and easy. Service was okay, but not the friendliest.
T.K. Extraordinaire
Went here for my birthday and had a one and a 1/2 pound lobster, called ahead because I do not like a lot of seasoning and they boiled it special for me in salt water only.. We called an hour ahead.. We had a great time and the lobster mac and cheese was awesome! Of course ALL the lobster and food was cooked perfectly, Wife had a Burger, not interested in seafood and she said it was great!
We will definitely be back soon!
Rocky Halterman
Not bad. A bit pricy for what we got but good enough.
Malik McDiesel
Very busy, good service. Server was very attentive not overbearing. Enjoyed the diverse and mature culture.
Candace J. Wilson
My first time dinning and a first to Minneapolis, MN. My son recently moved to MN in August from Finland. In the meantime, one of his co-workers suggested we dine here. One word, "WOW!" The experience was AMAZING!! We were greeted by the host with a smile, respect, ans honor. We were immediately seated. The wait staff who assisted in taking our order, he was phenomenal!! He loves his job and I felt as if we were family!! He was funny too!! However, I am never a fan of eating in established with dogs in a restaurant. BUT, the patrons dogs were in their immediate space. I was surprised to see staff bringing bowls of water for each pet owner. This was gracious and obliviously the restuarant owners have taken consideraton for the patrons and their pets. Pets are family too. It was so sweet. My son and I love exploring restaurants and this experience was memorable!! If your in the area it a must stop!
Katherine Kennedy
Just placed and picked up a to-go order. Had to try out a few things Lobster Poutine, Connecticut Lobster Roll and Shrimp Po’Boy. Everything was huge!!! So much LOBSTER, oh my gosh!!! My dogs were happy to have lobster and shrimp. I had never had these dishes before but I saw them on DDD and had to eat there. WELL worth EVERY penny and so delicious. The young lady at the hostess stand, I’m sorry I didn’t get your name, was so extremely friendly and made sure I got extra napkins and utensils also remembered my order without writing it down while she seated tables and answered the phone and called me in my car when my order was ready (in less than 10 minutes). I highly recommend this place. Thank y’all.

Always a pleasure visiting the northern loop and smack shack for seafood and drinks. The bartenders and waitstaff are super pleasant! Drinks are always on point! Food is always incredible! It’s wonderful to get great seafood away from the big bodies of water. Will be back anytime I’m in town.

Our waiter was very kind, fun and knowledgeable. The food was very delicious and prompt. I will definitely be coming back for another meal. Thank you for the great service and food.

It was wonderful! The vibe there was so laid back! The food was amazing! Can't wait to go again! Our waiter Nick truly made the experience even better!

Such a great experience! I am rarely blown away dining out, but this place was fantastic! All of the staff were super friendly & helpful. I found the food to die for, the prices reasonable and the ambiance was perfect. Our server Margaret was so kind and attentive to my 2 little social butterflies, I was amazed how well she still did her job! Don't miss Smack Shack.

Great food! Our server was more hands off which was a good thing, and helpful with our food selections. Nice dining environment - laid back, but classy. We were initally going to get the large seafood tower, as we were on a mission to find one to celebrate a milestone, but upon hearing more about the menu, opted for the seafood stew, crab dip, and warm lobster roll. We were full and satisfied at the end! I think we'll save the tower for another time :)

I like their po-boys! However if I am going to order the seafood boil you need to ditch the polish sausage and use andouille sausage! I am from Louisiana and I am looking for authentic southern food, so if I can't get it in a restaurant I will cook it!! My cooking is way better than anything I found so far so please prove that I am wrong!

Great place on town! Parking is close and you can definitely feel the good vibe. We need to try the second floor next time. Lobster bisque, poutine, lobster rolls, and drinks were top notch!
Jennifer Sopsic
Shrimp and Grits! Adds a nice bit of spice to life……Service (when ordering dinner) at the bar is really great. Bartender told me about the Hewing which I will have to check out sometime. This looks like the place to go for lobster folks. Also, looks like they purchased the former Lexington on Grand Ave in St Paul.

Came here for my birthday and I'm so glad I did. The patio was great. King crab boil was so filling and delicious. The potatoes were the PERFECT level of softness. Corn was on point. Peeled shrimp appetizer with the cajun seasoning was good. I know their lobster poutine is killer because I've had it at 1029 bar. Lobster guac app was interesting. It's good if you're craving some chips and quac. The lobster mac was sooooooo fire. And I got a complimentary birthday dessert!

Long Waite but newly open ok. Cold food fries were cold. Kids hamburger like a hockey puck, they did not eat it. Waited and had to ask for the check. I maybe would try again, but not a good $ value. Beautiful new bld in Bloomington.
The Bean
Lobster Mac was super good. It was so good that when I threw up in the ER a few hours later from the pain meds they gave me that it tasted good coming back up too. 10/10 would eat again.

This is a gem. Good seafood in Minneapolis is scarce, but this is great. Love the oysters, lobster roll and scallops. Love the patio and bar. I come here regularly and have no plans to stop.
Matt Landon
The swordfish was amazing. I'd have sworn I was eating a steak based on how it tasted.

Second visit while on a business trip. Suggested by a coworker. Have not been disappointed yet!
Food is awesome!

First time visit here, our server was incredibly helpful in explaining the menu, gave us her recommendations, and overall service was too notch. Now, the food and drink......was fantastic. From the crab cakes, to the Halibut, to the Southern Fried Chicken, you can't go wrong. We will definitely be back.
Jasmine Garcia
I came here with my dad and I ordered Connecticut Style Lobster Roll with a side of Lobster Mac and Cheese while my dad ordered Stuffed Salmon and Clam Chowda. We both loved the food and the area. we had a fantastic dinner. I highly recommend if you are a seafood lover and especially if you love lobster
Chad S
The food is amazing, had the lobster mac and cheese which is always wonderful and the shrimp bruchetta was a perfect sharing option for two people. The service was good our waitress checked on us frequently. Took my friend for their birthday and they give a little key lime pie which was really nice. The only thing I didn't love is we were sat on the side of the patio down the stairs which is not exactly the best, the trash gets taken out the back behind you. Just didn't have a great atmosphere. Thats the only reason I didn't give 5 stars.
Lee Holmes
Great food, nice atmosphere.

Love this place I got engaged last night 5/24/2022 Mr baker

Okay, I stopped by here on a whim. I've been meaning to go for a while, so took advantage of my day off. I got the fried green tomatoes and buttered lobster roll. When I tell you that ish was good, I didn't lie. I ate all that!!! There was more than enough lobster and the flavor was on point. I started in on the fried green tomatoes before I got home, Omgoodness...no corn meal, but they were welled seasoned and the pickled Fresno chilies rounded out and balanced the tartness of the tomatoes. Just know I will be back despite the price...
Theresa Amelia Flocken
It was amazing! Seafood was so fresh. Ambiance made this a great experience. Ate raw oysters with hot sauce and horseradish. King crab, lobster, raw tuna, shrimp. That was just the appetizer. Wonderful, wonderful.
Jamie Garroch
Great menu, service and atmosphere. Had lobster guacamole followed by scallops with a cream and bacon sauce. Delicious.

Crayfest 2022! See you next year 🦐 …

We went on a Sunday for brunch and found it was so-so. Peel and eat shrimp was amazing along with the lobster mac, chicken and waffles, and bloody Mary. The bisque was way too sweet, the lobster scrambled eggs had no flavor, and the chilled lobster roll had way too much tarragon. Service was attentive but not friendly.
Scott Fornwall
What delicious food! If you can find parking, this is a great place to eat at. I love places that can do New Orleans style right.
Jack Ryan
Easily the best seafood destination in MN. I was going to get the Connecticut Lobster Roll, but the waitress convinced me to get the Original Lobster Roll and it was one of the best meals ive ever had. Casual vibe with upscale food that's reasonably priced. Looking forward to the Edina location!
J R
For MN it presents the freshest tasting lobster . Love their lobster rolls! Also lobster Cobb salad is very tasty. This place has consistently good dining experiences.
Bob Hoffman
Would have been 5 stars but when we first got there (5:30?) the one hostess was pushing us pretty hard to take a table in the bar, almost to the point of being a bit rude. I finally told her that we wanted to have a regular table for dinner and she reluctantly gave us one. I don't know what the problem was - there were plenty open. The jambalaya was the best I've ever had. Absolutely tremendous. All the flavors at once. Amazing. My wife had the stuffed salmon and said it was excellent. Pricey - but wonderful. And they have a nice tap beer selection.
Michael Berg
Absolutely delicious. The lobster rolls are so good. They come overflowing with lobster. Such a great and filling meal.
Jimmie Johnson
It was very good. It was my first time there and my girlfriend had been before. I had the jambalaya and my girlfriend had the fish and chips. My food was hot which made it even better for me. Our server was great also.
Electa Vee
Everything was tasty except the cole slaw. Too much cilantro and I actually love that herb! A bit pricey for 1 lb of crab legs, but they're king crab and they also have them pre-cut so getting ALL the meat wasn't difficult. Service was decent too.
Drew H
Expensive, but worth it. The food truly always smacks! Try the Lobster Mac and Lobster poutine. Signature drinks are excellent but so pricey. This place is absolutely worth a try. I always leave here satisfied.
Andrew Calhoun
Good solid seafood. Atmosphere was really lively, despite being in a pandemic. When we ruturn to some semblance of "the before times", aka outdoor seating, I'll return to eat in.
Reg Hammond
The food is fresh and delicious. I have had the Connecticut style lobster roll, I prefer hot seafood over chilled. Ask for some extra butter if you are decadent.😉
My other favorite is the Lobster Lucy, a middle class man's surf n turf!! This is a stuffed cheeseburger with a lobster claw stacked on top of it. 😍😍
Charles Crohn
Great atmosphere, incredible service and an all around wonderful place. The menu is mostly seafood, which I do not care for. I had their wings and they were awesome! By far the best blue cheese dressing I’ve ever had.
While we were there another patron got way out of line with us. The management stepped in immediately and took care of it. They took such great care of us, even though it was not their fault this other patron went berserk. It really left me with the impression that this kind thing was incredibly rare there and not at all tolerated. The manager must have apologized a dozen times for something that they responded to perfectly and was not at all their fault.
Overall, a nice, clean and fun place. I would recommend it.
Steve Momcilovic
This place is good, but it is not stellar. The shrimp is tasty and they have good fish and chips, but I haven't really found anything here that makes this place really stick out. The seafood itself is a little above average, and the fish and chips in general aren't that much better than any other restaurant. You likely won't be disappointed by this place, but if you are a seafood aficionado, then you probably won't be impressed.

Happy to have this place near our home! Good food, and good cocktails. A tad pricey, but expected. Service was just okay. Will be going back for sure.
Kirsten Pranschke
Every time I come here I have too much to drink...mainly because the drinks are so good! Did i mention they make hurricanes?! Valet parking is available if you don't want to circle the block. Love the burger as I am not a seafood person...but my husband loves the lobster and takes forever to eat it...so I can recommend it through his full mouthful statements of "hmmmm, this is so good..." or at least that's what it sounds like he's saying. We always sit at the bar and the service is great.
Stephanie Zins
I haven't 't had good sea food in a long time. My best friend and I went in on a Sunday at 7:45. We received excellent service. (I even had a beer on the house for slightly misplacing my crab dip.) My buddy had the lobster Lucy and I had the Connecticut Style lobster roll. Along with our crab dip. All 3 items were fantastic. Our total bill was under $70. Money well spent. I will be back.
Bryan Pierson
Next time I'd sit at the super cool bar. Drinks were really tasty. We had crab cakes which were extremely tasty. The lobster mac and cheese was also good, but extremely thick. They're known for their lobster roll, which is understandable, because it was delicious. Really cool space too with repurposed chairs and comfortable, intimate decor. Certainly worth checking out!
Ron Finlay
Great, fantastic, wonderful food and we had great service.
Razzle Dazzle
Wife and I went for brunch on a Saturday. I got the chicken burrito and she got the fancy grilled cheese with the seafood in it (sorry, don't remember what it's called). The food was great...we also got the spicy cornbread to try as well, and it was incredible. Really enjoyed the atmosphere and the cocktails were well-crafted. Highly recommended!
Thomas Brown
Fantastic seafood. Everything on the menu was made perfect
Billy Cripe
Awesome food and service. Love the outdoor heated sitting.
Tim Druyos
Great atmosphere, fantastic food and quick service on a Sunday night! Highly recommend the lobster Lucy for anyone looking for something a little different. I never thought lobster on top of a burger would taste so good! We will be returning to try additional menu items as everything looked great. The patio area is also huge and has tons of seating. You can't go wrong if you are looking for some great seafood in the twin cities!
Steven Linden
One of my wife and my favorite places in the neighborhood. Very fun atmosphere with tons of seating so there is never a wait. Bloody Mary's are awesome and come with this huge shrimp, definitely Instagramable. Food is good, their specialties are lobster rolls and lobster mac and cheese. They have non-seafood options as well for those who dislike seafood. My father in law is a red-meat only kind of guy and said their steak was delicious.
Beulah Burkhalter Very inspiring
The seafood is extremely good. Service is from friendly servers
PolythPam
Our fourth visit over the years (we’re from out of town) and it never disappoints!
Charles Atkins
Best service ever here.
Jazzana Schreiner
What a trip. I walk in thinking sports bar. Nope! An elegant restaurant with the best stuffed salmon I've ever had. The dessert shots? Sooooo tasty. Worth the high tab.
Haneen Sbeih
Our server Karl was great, he made our experience exceptional!
The lobster roll was okay, but the mussels were delicious and the broth had a very nice flavor!
Sasha DeMarre
The food was great as always! The crab cake appetizer and lobster guacamole are must-trys. Both pack a lot of flavor. We all had either the warm or chilled lobster rolls. A classic with fries, or your choice of other sides. Definitely a filling and delicious meal! The new cocktails are also fun. Cheech and Chong are fruity and come in big glasses, and the spicy margarita is great if you like a kick!
We were seated outside most recently, which was lovely! The table was off of the main patio so it was slightly a weird location given how close we were to the alleyway and street. But it was quieter so better for conversations!
