Sarna’s was a bit of a surprise for us. We really enjoyed the atmosphere, the broad menu, cocktail and wine lists. Try the iconic Pure Ecstasy cocktail (see photo). Near enough to downtown, free parking, and pull tabs. Our server was excellent and provided far better service than we deserved.

Ok, maybe it's worth more than 3 stars and maybe we just came at a bad time. However, we did not have that great of an experience. We came around 6:30ish and there were two other groups waiting at the time. The host told us it would take about 15 minutes to sit down, however it ended up taking almost 30 minutes. Not sure why, there were quite a few open tables. When we were finally seated, it took a while for the waiter to come by to ask about drinks. The slow service remained, very slow service (definitely not ideal when dining with kids). It took quite a bit of time for the food arive... The kids got the burgers which they said it was okay. My wife ordered the stir fry, which was okay as well. My spicy shrimp tacos were good. Overall, the food was not bad, probably 4 stars. Everything besides the food dragged my review to the ground. Had to compromise and give it at least 3 stars, but I don't think we will be returning... too many other more reliable options around.

This was my first time eating here...and I really enjoyed it. The staff was friendly and personable. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual. Plenty of free parking with a clean and well maintained lot and restaurant. There were a ton of great food choices. We had pierogis with a side of sour cream as an appetizer. We split the Nordeast Mac & Cheese...which was decent...loaded with bacon, sausage, and melty cheese. I got the Crispy Chicken Sandwich....as it was recommended by our waitress. It was quite delicious with bacon, tomatoes, cheese, lettuce and a smoked tomato aioli. My brother got the Heights Burger....and he was definitely satisfied with how it tasted. Overall....I will definitely come back to try more items. This place is worth the trip.

Gorgeous interior always seems to updating and renovating something wether its inside or the patio. Good helping of fries with each entre. Oversized chicken on the crispy chicken sandwich. Chicken tenders kid meal is a great deal for later or if course the kiddos.

Neighborhood bar & restaurant in Columbia Heights. The sizable bar seats around 40, maybe 50 in a pinch, with more high-tops and booths surrounding the bar. Tap beer selection is ok, with maybe 10 choices. The decor is modern and the venue is bright, clean, fairly new and well maintained. Watching the staff I get the impression that this is a pretty tight ship. The vibe in this Saturday afternoon in December is upbeat and friendly. A meat raffle was underway when I arrived. Four TVs mounted above the corners of the bar are showing various college football and basketball games. Sports is not really an emphasis, and I would not consider this a good option if you’re looking for a place to watch a game. The strength of this place is the menu. The choices and their descriptions will make your mouth water. Pierogis and pot roast hint at Sarna’s Polish heritage, but the menu is otherwise all-American. Burgers, steaks, walleye, trout, Tex-mex, barbecue, pasta, and various comfort food choices including an old-fashioned blue plate special are some of the choices that make deciding a challenge.

overall our experience at sarna’s was just ok. the service was friendly and attentive but the food just fell short. the wings were cooked fine but the sauce was just poured over the wings and they were soggy. the flavor of the “Asian” sauce was just way too sweet. the steak bites were probably the most disappointing. they came out on a sizzling plate but they had no char on them but rather they were overcooked and rubbery. they also had very little flavor. maybe we just struck out with two average dishes but for the price i expected more.

I have eaten here 5 times in the last three months. The food has been consistently stunning. The pot roast is delivered in a very uncommon presentation, but in 55 years, I have never had better tasting pot roast. Fun atmosphere, great burgers too. Friends say the salads are delicious as well.

I have the jumbo shrimp dinner, the shrimp were cooked to perfection. The mashed potatoes were just like I like them whipped with the little chunks of potatoes in there. The servers were friendly. The price for the food is a bit steep in my opinion. But I would return because I want to try one of their salads.

We were here celebrating birthdays. The food and service were both good. Monday was Martini special night. We ordered one and it was really good. They did mess up our order, but it worked out ok. Portion sizes were good.

This is me and my boyfriend's favorite spot to have a nice supper at. They always have a rotating specials list that is updated weekly, the bartenders are very attentive and always pleasant, I also appreciate how large the bar area is. My little gripe is that I wish they would add a greek salad to the salad list, as i LOVE when it's on the specials menu.

Very nice place with relaxed atmosphere, big booths and friendly service I had the meatloaf which was fantastic! My wife had the quesadilla which she liked. We shared the artichoke and spinach dip which was good despite having too much of the fiberous parts of the artichoke. We were there at the tail end of a meat raffle which is always fun. They also have pull tabs if you are a “paper crack” addict like us 😊 we will definitely be returning and would recommend this place to others

Visited on a Saturday afternoon, bingo was going on. Very nice inviting setup of the restaurant. Me and the wife ordered the regular burger with extra topping, we ordered medium done, it was actually done medium. The fries are super crispy. Over all experience very good, will visit again.

Came here with a friend who likes it. Wife had the fish and chips, said it was okay. I had the club. What I saw was club sandwich. I did not see the "signature cranberry-wild rice bread". I guess if you like fruity bread it's great. I thought it was awful. But only be ause of the bread. The tots were good. Truly doubt I'll be back. Sad too, because the place is nice and the wait staff is attentive and pleasant. Just not my kind of food. Had to go with 3 stars because it's just not a 4 for me. More like 3.5...

Walleye sandwiches are huge, fresh and tasty with thick tomato slices and romaine lettuce. We ordered with baked potatoes, also giant. Takeout order came very quickly. Yum.

We had a late lunch with our dad. 86 years young he had the Blue plate special(turkey dinner) I had walleye tacos and husband the pork tenderloin sandwich, Cole slaw and soup. We all had drinks. Suzi was very attentive and our meals were great. So much to eat and delicious. Have to come back for the Prime Rib on a Fri or Saturday. Even the refried beans were great. Will be back when in area. Returned for prime rib for family anniversary celebration and had prime rib. OMG it was great. Be back soon as I love prime rib

My husband and I love to eat out so we are pretty picky. I mean if it’s not better than I can cook at home why pay to go out. This place did not disappoint. I read many reviews before we decided to check it out so wasn’t sure what to expect. The place was full and had a good vibe. I ordered the chicken fettuccine Alfredo and house salad, husband the 12oz prime ribeye ( which is only served Fri, Sat and Sunday). Salads came out quickly with bread that tasted like a soft pretzel stick, yum! Entrées came right in time. Both dishes were hot, fresh and delicious! If I had to see any negative it would be that my salad was extra although my husband’s came with his meal. I am sure we will go back as my husband wants to try their Walleye fish dish. Worth the price and time.

She took our food order and didn't see her again till after we finished eating and ready to pay the tab. They were far from busy in my opinion. I highly recommend the Thai Lettuce Wraps! Absolutely delicious with so much flavor. Both of the sauces that they are served with are excellent. The waitress did a great job of keep our water glasses full. I’ll definitely be back.

I've gone here twice with colleagues for drinks. Both times were fine. The cocktails I ordered were good and reasonably priced. I feel that the wait staff grew impatient with us for being there after a while (we were there for what turned into a lengthy meeting), so that may be why. Both times I was there were in the afternoon, and the restaurant was moderately busy. The staff did a good job keeping on top of the tables. I'll likely return to try some of the food in the future!

There were 2 items that I had been craving & I really wanted both; they made it work & I was extremely happy & both items were fantastic! I also ordered their carrot cake to take home; it was worth the price & just as good as my own baked from scratch. I plan on going there a lot & would go as far as to say it is my new favorite restaurant! This had been my 1st. time there but won't be my last ... Try it.

Wasn't for me - had some Korean beef tacos which was just a roast beef taco with a tiny (and I mean tiny) bit of sweet sauce on it. I don't believe Korean beef or tacos for that matter are normally served that way so it was pretty weird. - was super busy and compact - gigantic television was blinding me while I tried to eat (though the people at my table who enjoyed golf loved it) - deserts were gigantic, pretty, but quite sweet. Overall: quaint place for some decent American food. But wouldn't reach to far past that.

The food was amazing. Our waitress however had a little attitude. We came in for lunch as a party of 6. The waitress asked us if we were on separate tabs, which we answered yes. To which she replied "Just remember that when you tip me." Then she was slow to come back and take our order and keep our drinks full. Which made her comment about making sure we tip kind of a slap in the face. I'll be back for the food. It was amazing. But I probably won't bring more than 3-4 people at a time, again.

Sarna's is a quality eatery. Typically busy and limited parking. Plan to car pool if you can. The food is exceptional and serving sizes are well portioned. With many options on the menu, it can be difficult to choose just one. You're sure to find multiple favorites, and begin a rotation of daily meals. The drink selection is varied and there's a pairing for each entree. The decor and staff are pleasant and welcoming. The open dinning room is good for large groups and gatherings. This is an excellent restaurant. We always get great food and service here. The drinks are good and there is something for everyone with a nice versatile menu. Highly recommend the cauliflower bites.It's one of my 7 year old niece's favorite restaurant as well!

Many great specials, Happy Hour, Manhattan Steak, Pork Chops, Prime Ribs, Pot roast, Heights Burger and the best Butterscotch Bread Pudding. Our wonderful, consistently very friendly and upbeat waitress who waited on us before and on Monday, Nov. 15th was ending her shift around 3 pm and had more energy as many others half her age. She makes you also want to return. Great place for groups. Did I mention the delicious Liver Dinner? 5 ⭐+

Had the pleasure of enjoying dinner on the patio tonight. This was the first time we have been here. Really great food, nice portions and fair pricing. A recipe for success indeed! In fact, we were finding ourselves looking at the trays the waitstaff were bringing around to other tables contemplating what we would like to try the next time we come here. I don’t think you could go wrong with anything you order. And the drinks TASTED (and felt) like you had something to drink which is a big plus in my book. I had Larry’s Burrito, by the way, which was great.

10 of us went for their Sunday brunch... First since pre covid. The food was the same delicious choices, but prices are much higher. We took advantage of the buy a $100 gift card n receive a $25 gift certificate. Bloodies n mimosas $5 n $4. An added treat was a delightful Kris Kringle was there visiting with the children and sitting for pictures by the fireplace.

Sunday brunch is pretty good, decent selection and not too busy. Sausage patties were dry as if sitting around too long. Ribs were a bit fatty. Otherwise food was good and some unique options like blintzes. They give you a huge cinnamon roll for the table but on last visit they forgot to bring it. Lots of parking. Visited around noon recently for brunch again. They brought the roll this time which as before is quite tasty. I left score as is because while buffet was good it was clear it had been sitting around for a while so not fresh. Server was attentive and friendly.

Great food! Very nice staff! They are kid-friendly. They have a spacious, open restaurant and bar area with a nice outdoor patio. My friends got their 16 oz. steak and it was huge! I had the broiled walleye, which wasn't bad.

I’ve been coming here with friends for almost 10 years. Sarnas has a great patio, very good prime rib, and I love the seasonal selection of cheesecake. However, I am incredibly disappointed that the original chicken pot pie was changed, then taken off the menu completely.

Start with the obvious: the food here is incredible. Our party had pecan walleye, baby-back ribs, pot roast, steaks, and a classic burger - all of which were just amazing. The ribs and pot roast absolutely fell apart. The sides were delicious - their vegetables vary by day, but the green beans we had were by far the best I've ever had. The restaurant itself is very pretty, clean, and comfortable. The service was fabulous, although our food took a little longer than ideal. However, for the quality, it's well worth waiting for! Will absolutely be back! Edit to add: the portions are ENORMOUS. For the price of my meal not only did I eat too much, but I had a sizeable lunch the next day, LOL. 350 for 10 minutes was about perfect.

We have always enjoyed sarnas. My husband LOVED the brunch (I’m not a huge brunch person but it is good!) we haven’t been since pre-pandemic but we rented an igloo at a nearby brewery and wanted to bring food. We decided sarnas and so glad we did. We placed an order through the phone for a later pick up time and it was ready by the time promised. The food was amazing!!! I had the fettuccine Alfredo and my husband and son had the quesadilla. Next time for my son I’d ask for the spice to be left off. My salad was fresh and was really tasty for just a side salad. We will definitely start picking up sarnas again!!

I got Larry's Burrito and my husband got the weekly special of stroganoff. Both were extremely tasty. The beef of the stroganoff was melt in your mouth tender. The burrito was huge and tasted wonderful. We are looking forward to going back soon.

The food here is fine for classic American cuisine. It's nothing special, I've never felt particularly impressed. I always felt the place seemed understaffed, and after visiting for the first time since COVID hit, they seemed to be even more sparse. I met a few family members there, and I was there for about 25 minutes before the waitress came by to take a drink order from me.

Dine in experience: Sarna’s has a beautiful outdoor seating that accommodates us during this pandemic. With the mini waterfall, it was so cozy eating there in the evening. The food was amazing and delicious, though a little expensive, and the dessert is in humongous portion. Take out experience: We ordered through Menufy for a later pick up. A couple hours later a manager called to tell me that our order has been ready for a couple hours. I told him that it’s for a later pick up, I can show the receipt. He told me to call Menufy so they can give them a compensation for this mistake. I was confused because I feel that this should be their responsibility since they are the one in business with Menufy. I called anyway since the manager said that they will make a fresh batch for me. Fast forward a couple hours later when we got the order. My husband ordered BBQ back ribs which costs $26. Two pieces of ribs came and literally a spoonful of coleslaw. The slaw came in the ketchup/jello shot type disposable cup, so small we didn’t even see it under the ribs. We called and told them the side of slaw was missing, but the manager said that she personally put the slaw in the box. Well as we look closer, we saw the this tiny cup. Sure enough, it was gone in a scoop and that was it. Seriously, coleslaw cannot cost that much to be so stingy with it. Took two stars off because of this experience.

Never been there before My best friend took me he for Lunch. I had a juicy lucy it was cooked to perfection. Our host was always on top of our beverages. She was great she is what you would want all servers to mirror. Thanks again for a great lunch I will be returning.

It's ok. I went there for lunch 3x. Portions are ridiculous, lots of fries too if you like that sort of thing. Free refills on pop. The tacos were pretty good, but the burger was so-so. Also had a stir fry 3*). Witnessed multiple meals being sent out, and I feel that 3 is the right number of stars. Price is reasonable. Service is good.

We've been several times and always have a good experience. Quality food, good service and decent prices keep us coming back. On our last visit, I had Prime Rib, and others with me had walleye with Cajun spices, ribs and a huge chicken pot pie. Everyone thought their food was great. Nice place, good food, and the layout is great! It is very open, it has comfortable seating of all types from booths, to chairs, to high tops. The bar is big and also open with a high ceiling. They have bingo nights on every Monday of the week. They have pot roast nights (I may be wrong but believe the menu says it's on Fridays but I'd call and check that), as well as other speciality nights. I came in once just as they finished a Saturday meat raffle as well. If you live in the area it's a nice place to go for a date that isn't super expensive, but still looks nice and has good servers who pay attention and do quality work!

We were there on a Sunday for the brunch. 10 of us. It was a pretty good buffet. Some of us had ribs that were tender and then others had ribs that were dry. The prime rib wasn't as tender as it should have been. The service was good. The huge cinnamon rolls were delicious! I would come back!

All their food is delicious but spendy for the portions, bar bingo also fun but unable to hear caller well if there's a table near you talking and not playing. One time my chicken wasn't appetizing on my stir fry, the server quickly fixed it with fresh stuff. Tried to order a to go order and was told 15 minutes. I came 15 mins later and still sat and waited 20 minutes in the entry way. Not to mention $30 for 2 pot pies is a little outrageous. Now I just come here for drinks.

Sarna's has classic American food from burgers and flatbread pizza to more nostalgic fare like pierogies or liver and onions. I appreciate their vegetarian menu offerings including salads, veggie stir fry, Buffalo cauliflower bites, and the plant- based burger. The menu includes weekly lunch and dinner specials and each day of the week has a drink special. Monday martinis are a bargain. The carrot cake is great. Pull tabs support the Columbia Heights Athletic Boosters.

Anniversary dinner started with a Happy Hour drink, and then plenty of time to peruse the menu and specials. Friday offered Prime Rib, which was my choice, and the chicken salad sandwich was my hubby's choice. Great dinner, but too full for dessert. Great service!

Higher end food with a good price point. The drink specials this night (Tito's vodka and a Surly IPA) weren't my cup of tea but they change them often. The wasabi aoli was excellent. I'm clearing out my old, ancient review and updating it with current, accurate, and succinct reflections! I live near Sarna's; within walking distance. They have become one of my favorite places to go. It's one of the most comfortable restaurants in the Twin Cities with a changing menu and weekly specials that always has something I will enjoy. I would say that their specialty is "home cooking" although saying "American cuisine" would also not be untrue. My favorites shift and change along with their menu but I'll always love their Clam Chowder, Chicken Salad Sandwich, occasional Cuban Pot Roast, Kramarczuk pierogi with polish sausage, dry-rub Beijing Wings, weekend Prime Rib, and Sunday brunch! Desserts are wonderful (but be sure to get them to share; they're HUGE) with my favorites being the occasional chocolate bread pudding, carrot cake, or apple crisp. Desserts change, often, too ... so don't be disappointed if a favorite isn't on the menu: try something else and find a new fave! And there's so much more, beyond these: always check their weekly specials ... they are always worth it! Their booths are good for those of us with bad backs and the staff is always courteous, prompt, professional, and friendly! You are always at home, here: trust me! That's over 10 years of experience I have with this lovely establishment! During BINGO it can get a little bit noisy and, sometimes, the televisions can distracting but, honestly, those are the only issues I've ever had. I love sitting on their patio during summer evenings and by one of the fireplaces in winter. Sarna's is a welcoming place that really embodies the phrase, "Neighborhood Cornerstone"!

The bingo on Sundays is fun, but the recent menu changes are pretty bad. My kids used to love going here for the mac and cheese that came with fries and a bread stick, but they've changed it to just a bowl of Kraft mac and cheese and nothing else. Pretty lame. The burgers are still great, but my kids don't like it anymore.

First time at Sarna’s on 9/7/19 at 1:25pm; it wasn’t very busy. We ordered hamburgers and fries. They took nearly 35 minutes to arrive. Our waitress apologized once. Burgers were just soso, nothing special. Our server did comp one beer to compensate for our meal taking so long.

Good restaurant that's a little bit of a step up from Perkin's or Applebee's, with decent prices and food that's solid but probably won't make you want to have it be your regular spot. Ok drinks and atmosphere. Would be a good place to bring a group because the menu has something for most people vs the more foodie-oriented spots that get specific and experimental with style and flavors -- Sarna's may not be fancy or too original, but its traditional and reliably predictable, which can be good.

This was okay for a sort of comfort food restaurant. However I paid $6 for a "slice" of banana cream pie to go. When i got home and opened the container, it was simply a pile if Graham cracker crumbs with canned style banana pudding slipped on and huge chunks of bananas cut into it. I'm talking 2-3 inch hunks of bananas. It was ridiculous. I tossed it in the trash after one bite.

Nice sports bar and grill. Came for Wed nite bingo and had dinner before. Menu is varied and reasonably priced. We had burgers, meat loaf sandwich, chicken legs, onion rings and all were delicious. Nice warm decor. Outdoor patio available. Good service. Even won one game of bingo for $150 so can't complain. Second visit today on Sunday ( 6 months later) to eat dinner and play bingo again. Slliders, chili and salad were all good. Service was a bit slow, but understandably, as the Sunday buffet crowd had just left and the place was packed with bingo people all putting in their orders at the same time. Fun playing bingo but no winning this time. Make sure you have reservations, especially on a bingo night. Update 8/26/19 3rd visit.. still excellent food. Prime rib sandwich au juice w/tater tots and Pork tenderloin sandwich w/cole slaw were excellent. Good service by Theresa. No luck with bingo, however.

A place that never disappoints, if anything is a skew they will fix it immediately. Do not let the variety fool you everything is good and prepared well. Allergies are very carefully handled and the drinks are mixed perfectly. A MUST for locals to show visiting family and a great place for strangers to feel at home

This place is great! I thought it was going to be way more expensive than it actually was. I had the Thai lettuce wraps with peanut sauce, and it was just as good as similar meals that I've had at Asian restaurants. Highly recommend!

Great food and atmosphere! Great drinks, friendly staff. It was really busy but not overwhelming. The only downside I would want to know before hand ... Kids are allowed here and parents do brings teens, pre-teens, children and I even saw a baby. So NOT a place to have like... A bachelorette dinner. It is family friendly.

Love Sarna's! Go there with the fam on a semi-regular basis. The brunch buffet is a little pricey, but the food is fantastic! Their jalapeno bacon is delicious. My bloodymary was super stiff yesterday, which for a decent chunk of the population is absolutely not an issue. If the only issue over the course of the last year is a subjective one then they easily get 5 stars!

One of my friends invited me to have lunch with him. He had bought a BMW Motorcycle from me back in '03. I would tease him as I could have sold it on C List for double! We ate inside. Went to Sarna's last night with a gift card I'd been carrying in my wallet for about 2 years. It had expired but they still honored it. We just never make it that way but friends said it was good. And it was! We had the short rib special with a cup of the chili, shrimp fetichinni with an add on of crab legs and Cesar side salad, and the apple crisp dessert. All fantastic! Definitely coming back!

Service seems to have slipped a bit and the food is just ok now.Might be time for a overhaul here.UPDATE 11-4-18..went last nite and had the same experience..the sandwich and $1.00 extra potato wedges..???..were just ok..not bad..just ok...the service was same..just ok...a lady sitting next to me waited a few minutes for silverware..with her food in front of her..my bartender/ server did not ask how my food was and if I needed anything...really basic hospitality checks that the staff at Sarnas missed. Will not be going back.

The environment is nice because of the sun.. and the rare warm weather off of University Ave.. but the attentive service for young adult's has diminished. I waited for 20 minutes in a scarce atmosphere to order a drink and an appetizer. A very cute couple whom arrived with their 7 yr old son..10 minutes after me.. got offered to have their order taken right away. I mean, I know I'm dining alone right now, so maybe I don't look like I have enough tip money to present this beautiful blonde waitress, but I actually do! Thank God for the timely customer service in the other restaurant Top Fortune 100 company's! To the waitress that hates her job right now, and who tried asking me for an interview.. Sweetheart, shhhh, I'd never want to hire you with the lack of attentiveness you failed to show us scarce customers'. Other Linked In networks/local Minneapolis/St. Paul restaurant industries will hopefully re-evaluate Sarnas' young staff soon. And literally as I'm drafting this review, the couple/son next to me just said to her.. "I thought you said the food was spicey".. and the beautiful waitress says.. "It is the best we can do, so hopefully you enjoy it". Ahhh! I see why the older generations thoroughly dislike us younger adults. Sarnas has been one of my favorite go to places for a while now. Everything that I have ordered has always been very good. Some of my personal favorites are the steaks, chicken salad sandwich, the Blue Plate Special and the Heights Burger. You really can't go wrong with any menu selection.

Good lunches! You can count on consistency! We go there 2-3 times a month for lunch and food is good. We have chicken Caesar salad, burgers, or a lunch special and they're always good. We've seen lots of regulars get their specialties and they don't skimp on the meals. Turkey lunch is piled high with turkey taters,gravy and fixins and enuf to feed a family, and somebody always has it when were there. Not from our group, but other diners. I'd be sleeping at my office if I tried to eat it for lunch. Lol

I moved to the Colunbia Heights area a year and a half ago and Sarnas is literally right down the street, and it's one of my favorite places to grab a drink or a bite to eat. The food is delicious, and the staff is friendly, attentive and hilarious. Many of them know us by name, and that either speaks to how often we go there or to the quality of people who work there. Couldn't reccomend this place highly enough.

People are more prone to write a "negative" review - "stats prove this" - That being said, lets reflect on the parking lot packed of customer's this restaurant gets "daily" from open to close - The true "review" is in the continued progress of "5 star business" ..... Sarna's provides a nice casual approach to eatery with an upscale twist if so desired. The food is why I return upon every visit from the east coast where I live, a side of pleasant is the staff service at entrance with the hostess exchange to the server at my table. My mother came upon Sarna's a few years back and so delightfully included our family and her friends to this wonderful discovery. I cannot imagine a trip home to Minnesota without a destination at this fine family owned Grill! Thank you Sarna Family for a tradition in excellence!

Sarna's has been our go-to place for all family celebrations birthdays and anniversaries graduations the service can be slow during Peak business time and they have great buffets for holidays as well although those are quite expensive the patio is my favorite and why we always choose to go back
