Great choice for a special date! This place met all expectations and then some. The drinks were beautiful and tasty, and we didn’t speak through eating, just made noises of approval as it was too good to speak through! And our dessert came with a smidge of dessert wine for celebrating a birthday. The staff was lovely as well, but they don’t have a tip section on the tab so be sure to bring some cash to tip! $10 valet was worth it in also getting a nail recommendation from the driver! Overall great evening here! Can’t wait to try all their sister restaurants

Excellent Japanese-Italian restaurant in the trendy warehouse district of Minneapolis. The non alcoholic drinks are just as creative as the alcoholic drinks. The tempura calamari is excellent to start with and the yakitori is a great small plate. We thoroughly enjoyed two different wood fired pizzas. The restaurant has limited seating so I recommend making a reservation. Even sitting at the bar is a treat at this innovative restaurant.

The food was absolutely five stars, these chefs clearly know what they're doing. A lot of the food was spicy, and there were several Latino inspired seasonings and even dishes, so it's a little bit more than a Japanese and Italian fusion restaurant (which is fantastic in my opinion). The small plates are where the real value is at, the pastas were great but personally I would stick with the small plates next time.

Combine Japanese & Italian in a fine dining experience, and you have Sanjusan. One main takeaway is the variety and quality of the food and drinks. We enjoyed a few cocktails, several small plates, 2 entrees, and two flatbreads. Check out the photos… I think the food makes me look like a good photographer :)

Everything was just fantastic, from the carpaccio to the squid ink pasta, and the simple margarita pizza is just done perfectly. The cocktails were wonderful too. What really made our experience was Chef Peter, he was so passionate about the food and clearly loves working here. Will be back, for sure!

A couple weeks ago, I didn't know Sanjusan existed, but after dining here last night, I'm recommending it to everyone!
After a short elevator ride up to the 4th floor, the doors open to an exclusive private dining space for larger parties (6+). Even with being disconnected from the main part of the restaurant, the service doesn't miss a beat.
We started with a variety of cocktails. The garnishes ranged from a blossom of seaweed to a cloud of cotton candy. Slightly extra, but very creative! As we transitioned to appetizers, our waiter Austin helped guide us towards some delicious starters along with the mains that followed. He was attentive and knowledgeable throughout the night, and made the experience wonderful!
The whole concept of Italian-Japanese fusion seemed strange at first, but it worked! Definitely recommend.

Loved it! I used to eat here years ago when it was another name. The setting is wonderful. Brick walls. Windows and light. Excellent service. Food was excellent - creative mixture of cuisines done right. I like the different formats in the same building. Wonderful North Loop vibe.

We ordered two pasta dishes, but feel like small plates and grills should have been the way to go as we had hoped for more meat. The atmosphere is nice, a bit smaller than we expected, but overall pleasant dining experience.

Cute little place with some interesting fare. 🥰 We went with small plates and a selection of Yakatori options but the pasta and pizza looked yummy as well.... And I need that those were available in gluten free!
Attentive service and the "waiting area" was a nice touch considering the space is relatively small.
Highly recommend and I will be back.

Look, this place is pricey there's no denying that, but it is absolutely worth the visit.
Everything we ordered was amazing, unique and super well thought out. For example, we've all had old fashioneds before but never this smooth nor with a "nori chocolate twill" which sounded strange but paired super well.
Service is phenomenal too, our server knew every item super well and was able to make our meal unforgettable.
Definitely come here if you can, its worth the money unlike some other places.
