Visited for lunch shortly after opening. Wasn't busy but seemed only one woman unknown position(possible manager) was making things run. Was greeted by her, seated by her as well as her being my server. She was attentive, even suggested things on menu and a drink to try. Service was good but food wasn't as good of quality as I remember many years ago. Quantity was plenty had 3 servings. This location could use some updating.

Absolutely love this place. Every time I get to go it lifts my spirits. Definitely get the Hibachi when you go, and yes it does come with the chef preparing it in front of you, complete with corny jokes and clever juggling tricks and audience participation. It's a seriously good time and the food is both excellent and filling. I don't even usually like broth soups but the onion soup that comes with the Hibachi meal is good enough to be a meal by itself. Also the cocktails are pretty neat too

Osaka is open for business. They have sanitizer and a temperature station right at the front door. All the employees are wearing masks. They're only open for the Hibachi Grill so everyone is at a safe distance. The chef was amazing the server was great and the food was EXCEPTIONAL. Our group of 5 were all very impressed with every single bit of dinner. We will definitely go back much sooner than expected.

They need to figure out how to count. They had too many tables seated for the two circulating chefs. We waited a while to be seated despite having a reservation. Then we were seated for over an hour before we even received the beverages we ordered besides water. Once the server realized we'd been neglected she tried to recover, and was clearly frustrated at their obvious staffing shortage. But it was still another 20 minutes before getting our soup/salad. The other party at our table finally gave up and left. Eventually Chef Dante was able to come prepare our dinner. He was wonderful. Fun, friendly, and an excellent chef. The food was prepared perfectly. Just too bad it took an hour and a half to get started.

This is the first timebst this eatery location; first thought it was a all you can eat but it wasn't its based on what you order. Overall the food is ok not bad comparing prices this eatery food is a bit more pricy then other competitors nearby; prices could been been alot better. Not bad overall will be visit some other time.

Great place to celebrate special occasion, or enjoy nice lunch or dinner. Cooks always put on great show. Before main meal salad with creamy delicious dressing is served, soup is hot and flavorful. Main meal you have choice of meat, comes with rice but fried rice extra. Refills offered and if celebrating birthday a free pineapple desert and surprise song is delivered 😁. Always a fun, joyful dining experience for me and my family. If on budget there is lunch special and you can do sit in dining without the habachi experience.

The Maplewood Osaka is the best of all the Osakas and I'd say it's the best hibachi in the twin cities! The service is awesome and they all are working so hard. The food is always excellent and the show is great!

Went to the bar here on my birthday, because I know they have good drinks. Bartender was amazing! He made us laugh and offered great drink ideas. The drinks were even better than expected. Wish I got his name, but I'm sure he knows how great he was!

Very nice. We had the hibachi, and our server and chef were very courteous and provided excellent service. The ingredients were all fresh and quality, and everything was cooked to perfection. Our chef was talented and put on an entertaining show. If there was any fault from my perspective, they might have been a little generous with the soy sauce, but others might disagree. Very reasonably priced, and a fun family outing.

Still great food but definitely downgraded from the past, the show is not as entertaining, my son asked for white rice and didn't get it, yet was charged the extra amount for fried rice, which shouldn't have been especially since he was charged for something he didn't order. I still like the place but it seems the attention to detail is no longer there. The prices are still high so for almost 100 dollars for myself, girlfriend and son, I'd hope to get what was actually ordered.

It's a fun atmosphere to watch them cook in front of you and throw in a few jokes along the way. The soup was great, the salad was nothing special, and the rest of the food was excellent! On a Monday night, they only had two rotating chefs, but it wasn't a very long wait at all and they keep you busy with soup and salad.

My wife and I ate here today at an odd time so we were the only ones at the grill. I know that it would have been easy to just cook up our food and no show but Bennie still went out of his way to do his show and cook a wonderful meal for us. Great cook and honorable man. We will be back!!!!

Update: this is now the best Japanese food i have ever eaten. New chef maybe?! Awesome. Outstanding portions, quality, and service. Super fast on every course. My kids and I feasted for $32. They have really done a great job improving in the last year since I have been here. NOT IN THE MALL! Google showing its inside the mall, but its in a free standing shopping center to the north of mall ring. Love it! Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is price, but we're ok with an occasional splurge to get such yummy Japanese food. Great kids meals and delicious tempura. Pretty sure we will be back soon! If they had lunch specials we'd be here every week!

We had an awesome time at this location waitress was on point and chef was very entertaining! We came to this location instead of the Woodbury location. Two years ago at the Woodbury Location food was awesome and because we tipped the Chef and waitress separately the waitress though we stiffing them and stalked me in the bathroom as we were leaving then waited outside the bathroom door and demanded more of a tip. Then we called the Woodbury Location (was going give a second chance) to find out covid protocol and they demanded a 18% gradituty tip before we were seated. After that phone call we called the Maplewood location and they told us no that they don't do that. I also found out that both locations are NOT owned by the same people. We'll be back to Maplewood. Thank you for taking a negative experience and turning it into a very positive experience.

Never had the sushi here, but the hibachi is always a fun experience and the food always tastes well above average. Prices are a little high, but you can usually find some sort of Groupon. They're usually pretty generous with their sake, as well. It's a fun time, and we will be back.

Seated quickly and had timely service throughout our visit. Wait staff was friendly and courteous, but other employees started giving us dirty looks for sticking around too long after an expensive meal. Restaurant was generally dirty and loud, with ratty decorations and an irritating sound system. The clientele here leaves much to be desired, and I'm rating this location higher than it deserves strictly on account of the good service.

We always do the Hibachi. The food is predictably delicious every time. Keep in mind that the groupon is only good for the dinner menu which you can get all day. Not busy at all at 2 in the afternoon on a Saturday. If you have food allergies, let them know and they will prepare your food separately if necessary.

I got the Groupon because my boyfriend wanted to try hibachi but wasn't sure if he'd like it. We started with the paradise sushi roll that our server let us slightly modify to fit our taste. The hibachi was amazing, we got steak and shrimp. Benny was so entertaining and it was a lot of fun. Will definitely be back!

The food was excellent, the service was good, our chef was funny and asked us what we wanted and didn't want since we had small children at the table. The atmosphere was nice and clean. We've been to a few hibachi grills and this was the best overall we have had before.

We like Hibachi, typically go a few times a year. This last time we went to this particular location was our least exciting experience. The Hibachi cook really makes or breaks the experience. The food was really good though. I typically get the fillet and shrimp.

Great food. 5 year old ate more sushi than we did. We did not eat off the kids menu, we ordered tempura shrimp and sweet and sour chicken. It was plenty for a 5/8 year old combo. We ordered edamame as well and an Osaka Boat. Holy lord, it is served in an actual boat. Dinner (with drinks for kids/adults and one alcoholic beverage - an upside down pineapple which was excellent) was just over $100 and well worth it. No wait to sit and very attentive waitress.

One of my favorite places to eat. The yum yum sauce is amazing. It's always a wait time (on the weekends) but it is well worth it. The chef's always put on a show. It's very kid friendly as well.

I've only ever eaten at Benihana's, but the food is to die for. I came here with my fiancé's family to celebrate her sister and step dad's birthday, and while I particularly don't like the shrimp, rice, vegetables, etc... It was actually very delicious. Our chef was very entertaining. He had a great sense of humor and interacted with all 6 of us. I ordered the filet minogn, and I have never had anything more delicious. I believe they mix it in a teriyaki sauce, but you can't even tell. I definitely recommend the filet minogn to anyone who hasn't tried it. It won't disappoint! The only downside is that it was extremely busy when we arrived. We ended up waiting about a half hour for a table but they have a nice bar area for you to wait in.

First time in the dining room - there was a 30 minute wait for hibachi. Waiter was nice, food was good. But the dining room is caked with dust. Dust on the walls, light fixtures and all over the ceiling. Just an FYI.

They have gotten a lot better here recently. We eat at osaka in roseville quite often but only come here sometimes. I was impressed today when i came here for lunch, their happy hour menu was good and our bill was very reasonable. Our food was really great, its like they have a new chef or something. Okay we had BEN and he was so entertaining. He was like the perfect one we experienced out of all locations!!!! Kept us laughing the entire time. Including to adult jokes my 9 year old didnt understand, he was such a blast!!!! When ordering food i had been upcharged for both plates two or three times for things only I wanted changed on my plate. So the two for 41 i wanted fried rice and filet mignon. Everything on the other plate was to be the same. But, they made them both like mine and charged us literally almost 10 or more. When we had called ahead of time. We made sure we had enough with a tip. Upon leaving we were short 6 dollars EXACT somehow. We called the card. . . turns out the receipt showed us 33 was charged, plus the 20 in cash however, it was in fact 40 charged to it and they were ending uo holding it i guess. Security purposes. However, they than REQUIRED our DRIVERS LICENSES!!!! I was so upset. They overcharged by $10 and than held onto $7 and keot the license for $6. . . . . We went to the bank to try to get the 6 dollars exactly. We ended up being able to use my bank card directly due to a return. THANK GOD. . . . . afterwards. . . they rake off $4.00 and than we pay 2 and finally get the license and leave!!!! I was so embarrassed i just could NOT believe it. Best food ever best entertainment ever but somehow it endes up just . . . not okay when it came time to leave and pay etc. You have to be seated with BEN he is so awesome!!!!

I went for my Birthday 1st time ever.... Worst service ever! Not only the bartender add a bunch of drinks to my credit card that were not mine but the stupid waitress dumped soup down my back and ran off like nothing happened!!! When we confronted the management about it, we told them we would not pay full price for their bad service and they manager told us we had to that nothing was going to be taken off for their crappy service, and it is gonna take a whole week to get the money back on the credit card that they charged! Honestly I would never ever recommend this place to my worst enemy! They SUCK!!!

Delicious. This is a hidden gem in Maplewood, and the sushi is so fresh and creative. I used to live in Tokyo and this is, hands down, one of the best sushi places around. Its non-pretentious atmosphere and amazing food makes it a favorite. Plus, if your kids are like mine and won't veer away from the standard American fare (which can get boring), try the Hibachi bar - my kids always beg to go there as it's very fun, and they love the terriyaki chicken and fried rice. And a bonus: you can still order sushi while sitting at the Hibachi bar - so it's a win win.

Very nice and quiet place. You have the option to either have hibachi or the diner sushi. We chose the sushi, since we are already sushi lovers. The portions are actually pretty big and we got half way full from one of our appetizers. In all we ordered a sashimi appetizer, sushi, ramen and some teriyaki chicken. It was all very delicious and I hope to be going here more often.

This is faaaaar better than the one in woodbury.the fillet mignon melts in your mouth. The servers are wonderful . Sometimes the cooks seem tired but regardless still give great effort . I guess I wish they had more breaks. The environment is so friendly. Woodbury location has manage to be gross 3 times. And I tasted my friends food too. No. I actually had never been to one until woodbury..then I went to Maplewood and was blown away. Woodbury locations chicken tasted like wood all the time. I told my waitress and she touched my chewed up food inspecting it ..just weird and gross. Never go to Woodbury. ;)

I have been going here sense they opened. I love the hibachi grill, it is very delicious 75% of the time and mediocore the other 25%, however I will no longer go here due to the customer service. When I called to order my usual pickup order that I place aprox 1xper month they told me I could not order fried rice only I had to order more, I explained it has never been an issue before and that I have been a regular customer sense they opened, the man told me well I wasn't here before and you can not order fried rice only. I WILL NOT return with you there either. Sucks to drive to Stillwater, but hey I would rather my money go to someone that treats me with a little respect! Not very many businesses are surviving in this economy and I don't want to waste my money on ones that shouldn't survive when the economy is good.

Osaka is always good. never had an issue here. it does get a bit expensive, and getting them to spin that wooden wheel at the end is like trying to pull teeth. if you don't want to do it just take it down for flips sake. but yeah it's decent
