Reviews of Origami Restaurant
Great sushi spot nestled in a nice little corner of uptown. My favorite thing to get each time I go is definitely the tempura ice cream, which is essentially a giant deep-fried ball of goodness (and the tempura tastes like cake!). There’s a bean in the center of the ice cream which can be an off-putting surprise the first time you try it, but I’ve come to appreciate finding it.
Went here for dinner, the table we where seated at was upstairs, and although we had been the only people seated there we did not get forgotten about. Super cute place, delicious and fresh food, pleasant atmosphere. I went with my sisters but came home and suggested my son take a date there. Definitely looking forward to going back!
I'm so happy that origami is still around! It's been years since we've been there and I'm so happy we remembered to go back! The fish was super fresh and cold, the rolls had great flavors, the potstickers were phenomenal, and I feel like the staff is above and beyond! I'm just happy thinking about how wonderful our date night was!
Delicious food and really affordable price! I live the atmosphere there is a bar area of wanted and a area to sit.
We had gyoza, a Phyllis X roll, udon and chicken dish. They were all good and good size portions. I LOVED the gyoza and the Phyllis x roll. Seasoning just right.
Parking is easy, there is a parking ramp just right by it, but I was able to park on the street easily during the week for dinner.
I highly recommend this Japanese place. I hope to comeback soon and get more dishes.
It's pretty good, but the food can be a bit pricey. The sushi has some of the freshest fish I've ever had in this city, so if that sounds worth it (in my opinion, it is), then check it out! Otherwise, I gave it a 4 because their fried rice has room for improvement.
There was almost no flavor to it, yet it was plentiful. I had to add soy sauce for it to taste more closely from what I expected it to taste like. The alcohol specials were also pretty subpar - not worth the hefty price. Once again, however, the star of this restaurant is, of course, the sushi. I highly recommend it, despite the price.
We went to origami with pretty high expectations. Online recommendations and their menu suggested it was right up our alley. The actual experience easily cleared our high bar.
They have a broad menu with a variety of options that will appeal to the casual sushi eater as well as more avid sushi enthusiasts. I can't personally comment on their cheaper/simpler options as this was a special occasion for us and we went all out. I can say if you're willing to drop a few hundred $ on a fancy dinner you will NOT be disappointed.
The highlights for us were the o-toro (melt-in-your-mouth tender) hamachi/sake toro and the Ikura. These are our go to options, we've had them at some of the best sushi spots in Oregon and San Francisco, and Origami's was right up there with the best we've ever had.
The surprise of the night was the sea bream. We've had it before but don't consider that fish one of our favorite but theirs changed our minds. It was incredibly flavorful and different from our usual nigiri choices. We were so impressed we got another order of it.
The only real hiccup was the chu-toro. Almost as pricey as the o-toro it was not nearly as tender or delicious, I'd recommend just getting akami and o-toro and skipping this middle option.
Lastly I'll note we got a bottle of Mu sake, which at under $70 was an absolute steal for a daijingo. It was so smooth and pure we were extremely happy we sprang for the whole bottle.
All in all our dining experience was far from cheap but felt like an absolute bargain compared with similar past experiences. We definitely recommend Origami to anyone in the twin cities looking for great sushi, a very cool atmosphere and excellent service.
My fiancé and I visited Origami in Uptown last night for my birthday. It used to be a fairly regular occasion for us at the original Downtown location, but we actually hadn’t been down here since they (sadly) closed in 2015. I just have to say that Origami never disappoints us, and I don’t know why we waited so long to try this location. I had forgotten that truly fresh hamachi nigiri literally melts when it leaves your chopsticks, and maki rolls that are made by an artist explode with flavor in your mouth. Everything we had was delicious; from gyoza, seaweed salad and ahi poke, to an assortment of maki and nigiri, and finally some mochi and green tea ice cream. Plus, the ambiance was lovely and the service was very attentive. I really couldn’t have asked for a better re-introduction to my favorite restaurant! Thank you for a wonderful birthday and I plan to be back in a few weeks with my brother!
We enjoyed our dinner in Origami. Great place for small plates!!
I love this place, it's got great sushi and a wonderful atmosphere. The variety is very great for a first time stop or an experienced Japanese flavor. I had the miso and goodness, it's was one of the most flavorful soups I have ever had.
The sushi is good quality fish. It is just not consistently done well. A roll falling apart is not something I would expect at this place. The restaurant is lacking the intimate/yet fun vibe it used to when it was located downtown. The staff is not very attentive, they are very relaxed in style. We return for the never ending summer roll and the asian mushroom appetizer.
Great sushi place in the Uptown area of Minneapolis. It is definitely worth a visit. The Endless Summer Roll is surprisingly delicious, and the staff are very friendly.
This is the best sushi I've had locally. Everything was fresh and delicious, presentation was a plus! The server was attentive and friendly. Great selection of saki, beer, and wine. It's a little tough to find if you haven't been - it's tucked back behind the theater. Definitely worth searching out for it though - you won't regret it!
The MOST INCREDIBLE authentic Japanese dining experience....
Delicious sushi and Asian food! I always get the tako sansai (octopus salad) and really enjoy the crunchy roll and dragon roll. The ramen and fried rice are also super yummy! My friend got a flight of sake and I’ll be back to have a glass of the kurosawa.
Delicious food. Awesome service. Super fun and chich ambiance. We had the Age Dashi Tofu and Takoyaki to start. Both were absolutely yum. We then tried the dragon, lava, and miyabi maki rolls. They were some of the best sushi rolls Ive had in the Twin Cities. We finished our dinner with fried ice cream. It was the perfect ending to an amazing meal. Also, huge shoutout to our server, Tomo, he was excellent and so friendly.
Very good ramen place. The broth of the ramen is so good(for the Tonkatsu ramen). The restaurant is very nice, has a small upper part, downstairs is the bar area.
The best sushi I've found in Minnesota, in my opinion as good as all but the very best places on the coasts. High quality sushi rice, excellently proportioned nigiri, a wide selection (one of the only places that always has yellowtail belly, for example), beautiful presentation, and generally excellent fish (sometimes superb, sometimes only very good. I've never been able to figure out what causes the variation; probably it's just inevitable when you're so far inland).
Sushi orders often take a fair bit of time, but the waiters are uniformly wonderful and the atmosphere is pleasant. Happy hour has some nice deals, and many of the appetizers are very good (gyoza, age-dashi tofu, etc). Prices are exactly what you'd expect for good sushi, and no higher than what you'll find in many places that are significantly less good. I haven't had any of the non-sushi entree items, but they do have an extensive menu of them.
If you're looking for genuinely extremely good sushi in Minnesota, this is the place.
Origami is one of the best sushi restaurants in the twin cities. Highly recommend trying it out! Price-wise it's on the expensive side, but it's definitely worth it!
So happy to finally try this place. The sushi and noodles were amazing. Looking forward to going back and sitting in the great outdoor patio. Happy to find good sushi in uptown.
Please forgive the quality of my pics. I've eaten authentic Japanese food at home and it doesn't get any better than Origami. I came here on a date thinking I was just going to get a couple things... wrong!! I started with a Hibiki whiskey and coke. The texture is thick and it's strong. Then we had some sashimi and flying fish and salmon roe sushi. The sashimi melts in your mouth, the flavors are soft and buttery. I had to steal my date's sushi rolls, I think one of them is the dragon roll, the other I can't recall. The quality of the fish here is beyond superb than that of any other sushi spot.
This was my first time visiting Origami since they moved from downtown Minneapolis. Their new location is beautiful! They still have an upstairs and a downstairs and the ambience was very inviting. We made reservations online through open table and when we arrived they seated us immediately. We ordered wine, appetizers, and entrees. They have a nice assortment of vegan and vegetarian choices. My sister had vegan fried rice and a vegan roll. My mom had the teriyaki chicken dinner and I had fried rice and shared vegetarian gyoza potstickers wit my sister. I also tried the California(Uramaki) roll. The parking is in a ramp right above the restaurant and easily accessible but it's a hourly rate. We definitely got full from our meals, the service was outstanding, but they should've offered forks because everybody can't eat with chopsticks. You can request a fork but they automatically give you chopsticks to eat with. For 3 people our bill came to $88, that's including 2 glasses of wine and a non-alcoholic mixed drink.
Absolutely beyond expectations. Everything tasted amazing! I would honestly say it was the best everything I tried. And very reasonable prices. I will be back very soon.
really good/ fast service. waiters are super nice. very delicious food. in a very sketchy neighborhood though.
My name is chicochadd
Origami restaurant was recommended by local.and I am glad that w head a chance to enjoy the hospitality. The owner is an older Japanese man that serves traditional sushi. He came out amd said hello. The drinks were especially good. It was my first time drinking Japanese whiskey.
In 1990, Owner and master sushi chef, Kiminobu “Ichi” Ichikawa, formed a limited partnership with Del Francis and Tatsuya Saji in an effort to introduce a modern Japanese restaurant to an eager and sushi-hungry Minneapolis.
The hospitality of the establishment has surpassed my expectations. I recommend making reservations, it will be your only chance to taste the some best sushi in town.
I have a youtube channel "Chicochadd" I introduce positive news the world.
The service is great, but I don’t get the reviews that this is the best Sushi in Minneapolis? I feel it’s just a regular restaurant, small portion for the food but kind of pricey. My wife and I spend like $85. I don’t think it worth the price
One of the best sushi restaurants in the city! Fresh, authentic and gorgeous. Try the fresh wasabi (if they have it). Completely different than the green paste and enhances the sashimi.
Delicious fresh sushi, and wonderful pork cutlet! And just off the Greenway with an outdoor patio. Wonderful service.
Sushi was ok, poke and mushroom appetizers were very good, food service was very slow and missed a detail on our order.
Origami used to be a pre-eminent sushi destination in Minneapolis, not so any more!
We dined in, ordered a mix of rolls, and sashimi and miso soup.
The rolls were flavorless, hardly any fish, so disappointed, you can get better sushi at a strip mall, same with miso so dead and flavor less.
Stay a way from this place!
Been here twice and I love the vibe. Super cool and unique interior and the menu has plenty of options and everything comes out delicious!
I had never had tempura ice cream before coming here, but may I say I was impressed!
Definitely recommend this place for someone who wants a good meal in a real city-like restaurant!
Delicious ramen. Good saki selection.
Stopped here over the weekend before leaving Minneapolis. We arrived right as they were reopening for the evening. I ordered a 5oz cold saki and the spicy miso ramen. The saki was served different than I had before but the waitress said it was served that way as good luck.
The spicy miso ramen was delicious with just the right amount of spice. It was spicy enough for a slight burn but not overbearing. Good portions of broth and noodles provided in the serving as well.
Would definitely return here again if I am back in Minneapolis.
Fried octopus balls’ appetizer were very unique! Great cozy place
The food here is very good, especiallythe appetizersand sushi. My husband is from Japan and it's his favorite place for sushi. I give it four stars only because it's a bit pricy, and my fried rice came with shrimp eventhough it didn't say it on the menu. I normally wouldn't mind, but shrimp gives me hives, so I had to pick it out. I would have said something, but our server was very unattentive. Our hostess was awesome. I wish I would have given her a cash tip. Thanks, Origami for the great food
Great food. Good price for amount of food. Staff are friendly and quick. Will be back again.
We love it here. It's a great atmosphere and the chefs are grinning half the time, chatting with the patrons at the sushi bar.
Super good sushi with amazing staff! Loved the mochi and beauty of the whole meal.
Vegetarian here. Great ambiance. Nothing to complain food. Hot Sake is great. Good service.
Amazing! Staff is incredible and the food is phenomenal. Longest authentic Japanese restaurant in Minneapolis. The other is also a sushi chef. Wonderful!
I tried caterpillar sushi and it is supper awesome . Other kind of sushi it is fine with those who doesn't like spices or sauce in their sushi. Japanese style sushi.
I used to go to Origami at the time when it was downtown. I haven't been in a few years, and I thought I'd see if the Uptown location was good.
Excellent sushi, just like the old days. Make Sushi Great Again.
Really good sushi.
The TNT specialty maki is truly hot but awesomely good.
Great sushi, not as busy or vibrant as it used to be.
They were busy so the wait for food took a bit but wasn't serious.
I had fried rice, pot stickers, and sushi/sashimi. I give the fried rice 5/5, sushi & sashimi 4/5. All of it was really good, but I wouldn't say this place specializes in solely sushi. I will definitely order the fried rice again.
Probably won't be back to this location. I found the price did not match the atmosphere. The wontons were good but my main dish was fried rice and it wasn't very good all-in-all not worth the $50 expense
Would recommend their super amazing happy hour! A lovely patio, refreshing sake and the best sushi rolls in town. I have never had a bad experience or bad food here and I have been regularly visiting a few times a year for 5 years.
Went here today for my anniversary and was pleased, as always. I’ve been to many sushi restaurants in the Twin Cities, and worked at one for many years as well. This place has some of the best fish in town, hands down!
The service is always great as well. Highly recommend this place. Thanks to our server, Tomo, for a great anniversary dinner experience.
Sushi was great! Quality of food definitely exceeded our expectations. Environment was cozy and is a perfect spot to take your date to. 👍 …
The staff is always friendly and timely. The sushi is great, good quality and always fresh. We recently tried their ramen for the first time and it was actually pretty delightful as well. I recommend sitting at the sushi bar because it's fun to watch the sushi chefs - but overall I recommend a visit here all together!
The server was friendly and attentive freshening up our drinks without being asked. The food prep and delivery was swift and lightening fast. This did not take away from the quality of the food whatsoever. I found the ramen noodles to be a bit stiff but still good. Would definitely return for the sushi rolls.
Amazing sushi, so many choices and Luke was so sweet and helpful! If I was living in Minneapolis I’d absolutely be a regular. Thank you!
Food was fresh, delicious, and had excellent flavor.
Parking is annoying because it's in Uptown and staff were not crazy friendly or helpful but we were there for a late lunch so might be different for dinner. Except the man behind the sushi bar who was quite attentive and kind.
I got hot tea, pot stickers, 2 shrimp tempura rolls, and a scoop of green tea ice cream which totalled about $27.
The art and decor inside are beautiful!!
Love this place. Great happy hour and service. Chris the waiter is always very professional, attentive and makes our (sometimes obnoxious) lady happy hour outing very enjoyable! Chris is really cute too, as an added bonus! Also, I love the fact that people actually speak Japanese here! It feels very authentic and I go sometimes to speak Japanese, while eating Japanese food. Very convenient location. If it's just me or I have a larger group, they always provide great service. Highly recommend!
The meat in my guest's fried rice was pretty poor quality. Although I ordered a Katsudon it was practically a Oyakudon with pork given how much egg and scallion greens there was.
A delectable and hip Japanese restaurant with outstanding staff! We went out for a friends birthday and the waiter - without even being told it was our friend's birthday - brought out a free dessert because he noticed it on their id when we got drinks. Cool right? And as a vegetarian I appreciate the fantastic non-meat sushi options! I never write reviews but this place compelled me to. Gotta go.
Outside seating was well spaced. Luke was our masked server and he was fantastic. Happy hour is good. Drinks delish and food amazing. Best sushi you can get.
Tried 3 flavors of the potstickers, ramen, seaweed salad, satay chicken, ramen, and sushi. Everything was tasty. There was a nice lady that wasn't our server helping with bussing whose interactions we found particularly delightful.
Food came out quickly. They were flexible when we had to change our reservation.
Great happy hour that goes until 6. It included some delicious Japanese inspired cocktails and sushi rolls, along with many other options.
Even if you can’t make it for happy hour, their regular prices are good and the food is great!
So many delicious appetizers and rolls. Decent list of wines by the glass - get the Crémant de Bourgogne. Love having everyone in a s group pick a few things and share, ordering 2-3 plates at a time. Service was intuitive and knowledgeable!
Chic atmosphere. Great happy hour drink options. As the menu says: adventurous appetizer options of raw octopus and squid. Octopus is my favorite. Price is on the moderate end but the food quality meets expectations. Definitely one of our favorite places to go to in uptown.
Decent little Asian restaurant in the heart of Uptown.
The interior layout is dominated by the large horseshoe shaped bar.
The service was very attentive and speedy.
The menu featured many different sushi options..... I'm not an expert by any means, but it was on the more expensive side.
There was some noodles options too (ramen! And it was filling and tasty.
Overall, I wouldn't go out of my way to go back, but if you're in the area it's a nice enough option.
First time there. Cant wait to go back! The server was awesome, the food hit the spot!
Best Sushi spot in Minneapolis. Go during happy hour, the prices are really good for the fantastic quality of the sushi. It is always fresh and tasty. Their starters are amazing, especially the octopus dumplings yum! Their service is very good.
Cozy and warm interior. Came here for a birthday party on a Tuesday where the happy hour menu is all day (also applies on Sundays). Potstickers were delish, tried a friend's fried rice and a sample of others sushi rolls, all were very good! Happy Hour menu has drinks wine, beer, apps, and rolls on it, and should accommodate anyone. Staff was friendly and prompt.
My place to go for Japanese food in Minneapolis. Sushi is good. Selection of sake remains outstanding. Kitchen is okay. I suspect heir kitchen chef may have changed. There happy hour menu is definitely vale for money.
Best sushi in the city. Yes, it's spendy, but it's worth it for the quality you get. Unfortunately, only the Uptown location exists anymore. I really miss the vibe of the Downtown place.
Just went for the first time today, will definitely be coming back. The server was extremely attentive, the atmosphere was really relaxed, and the food was really good. And it was cheaper than I was expecting. Can’t wait until I can make the next trip down.
So good! We ordered take-out with miso soup, Tamago Nigiri, Spicy Salmon, Spicy Scallop, and Philly Roll. Everything was delicious! I will judge all other scallop rolls by this one.
Brenda, who took our order was friendly and funny. The place was sparkling clean; you could tell they take Covid protocols seriously, the staff was conscious of social distancing.
I was in the North Loop area heading out for drinks when a friend suggested we stop by Origami for a bite. I was hesitant after having a mediocre experience at their Uptown location, but the service and freshness of their seafood far exceeded my expectations.
The waitress was really helpful for us when picking out our rolls. Everything came out fast and had generous portions.
Tip - Check out their late night happy hour menu offered 9 to close on the weekdays and 10 to close on the weekends.
Origami is a cute little place. Kind of a basic sushi place. Still had fun and enjoyed the drinks.
Their sushi is the bomb, no cheap substitutes or shortcuts. I've tried a dozen or so of their appetizers and every one is super flavorful without the extreme sauce overload that many Japanese places do for Minnesota tastes.
The best part is their prices, after eating here you'll wonder how those cheap places can justify charging what they do for a tiny little roll.
Very tasty! I like the location and outdoor seating.
Quality of fish is excellent. Food is always delicious and sushi chefs/staff are great!
Edit: Bartender treated us like we were worthless. Thankfully it is pretty rare to get service like this at Origami, but it was enough, after an especially terrible week, for us to not come back.
Great choice on chef platter nigiri. Tonkotsu ramen was on point.
We had a great 👍 time last night. The sushi was very good and the fish was really fresh. The waitress with the cat shirt was very nice. …
Large portions, but the taste doesn't make you want to finish. Cools down fast, over seasoned or under seasoned, it's a hit or miss with each dish. The service is incredible though. Nice wait staff who really makes an okay dish feel better.
Words Can't describe how good this restaurant is. For dinner, I had a appetizer of takoyaki and it was quite amazing! My main course consisted of albacore and smoked salmon sashimi along with tonkotsu Ramen and everything felt very perfect and The flavors of the Sashimi matched with the ramen. the service was impeccable and the quality of the food was Exquisite! I definitely will eat here again next time I'm in the cities for an anime convention!
Best sushi I’ve ever had in Minneapolis.
Origami is hands down amazing!!! The food was deliciously delicious and satisfied my hunger in a flavorful and made my day way. I was looking to try something new and different on my birthday and this place nailed it. I had always wanted to try japanese ramen and I got a beef ramen here. Omg, just thinking about it makes my mouth water. The beef was perfectly tinder and the flavor from just taking one bite without the ramen was shocking and when put together amazing!!! The sushi was delicious and spicy like I like it and the gyoza (potstickers)....don't even get me started...deee-lect-able! I ordered the chicken gyoza as I don't eat pork and didn't expect it to be so delicious as I have tried other gyoza with chicken in it and they weren't so great. However their gyoza was juicy and the skin was perfect. I was angry I didn't order more, they went so fast. You've got to come here cause I definitely will be coming back! Just take my money!!! Lol 😁😁😁👍👍👍👍💜💜💜💜
Probably the best sushi we had in Minneapolis! It was a little overpriced. But they had good beer on tap as well, which is rare for a sushi place. Would recommend, but maybe for a more special occasion
Great entree, below average ramen, great nigiri sushi and amazing hot sake!
I think I need to give this place a break. It is a hit or miss and the last two times were a miss. Tonight my miso soup was lukewarm and should have been hot. Tonight might have been a bad night but I think it’s hard to upkeep a business in Minnesota with the harsh winters and all. This was our go to sushi place but it’s time to find another place. Sorry guys!
Sushi was really good. Dinner entree (chicken teriyaki) was bad. Bland, chicken cooked poorly. Service not good. Worth a visit for the sushi, cross your fingers on the service.
My favorite spot in uptown. Junior behind the bar is the man - always great conversation and great service. The sushi here is fantastic and that's just barely scraping the surface of their menu. Do yourself a favor and come check it out.
Origami has been our favorite Twin Cities sushi spot for years. They are always consistent and reliable with awesome customer service. Best sashimi we’ve found at home and compared to traveling the coasts. It was sad to lose their downtown location but we are glad the uptown one is still open. They have happy hour all day Sunday and Tuesday- best days to go. Our favorites we get every time to share are: Black Widow crab roll ($17), Broccolini roll with ginger sauce, ebi shumai, crab and cucumber roll, miso soup, sashimi, and raw scallops = $60. Not bad for what feels like a 6-course meal! The Fulton Sweet Child of Vine on tap always pairs well with our order. I tell anyone that says they’re a sushi fan that Origami is the go-to spot. Sit at the sushi bar to watch them make it all, and they may offer a free fruit dessert!
I eat here quite frequently, and I must say this place is the best sushi in the area hands down. It is always fresh. It isn't cheap, but your money is well spent.
Nice atmosphere with adequate Japanese food. Server was knowledgeable and courteous. Food is a bit overpriced. Imagine a good place for Happy hour. Bathrooms inadequate for numbers of customers. Single occupancy only.
My chicken teriyaki was awful! It was so expensive for something I could have thrown on a plate at home myself . The only reason im giving it 3 stars is because my husband loved the sushi. ( I do not eat sushi) our waiter was very friendly and the service was good. Plus the coke tasted like a generic brand.
My first visit during happy hour was a memorable experience with great atmosphere, food, and service! I tried oshinko, takoyaki, spicy clam appetizer (like a clam salad and not spicy), spicy tuna and philly rolls. Definitely will have the takoyaki again! The food was beautifully presented and plated. The patio area is pleasant as well. Highly recommended!
Great service, excellent fish, and we enjoyed our sake flight as well!
Love this place, but it was even better in Ridgedale. Miss Yoshi, but glad that John stuck around and that Matt came back. Mango roll is amazing. Tuna avocado salad is awesome. All fresh nigiri is worth it, especially the scallop which is always better at Origami. Only wish they had the fried mini crabs here like they do downtown. They really understand "extra wasabi" when I ask for it, which makes the sushi even better.
Wish I didn't have to pay for parking when I go. But the food is worth it every time.
Used to be my favorite sushi branch where I made a special trip down to the cities just to go every year. The quality and management appears to have been under performing as of late. Still a great place to go to as they try their hand at seasonal specials. Some items like fugu, you can't get anywhere else in MN.
I try to leave 5 stars for each review and remove stars based on grievances.
1 star lost for quality of food: Our order of teriyaki chicken came with the sauce not cooked in, so it was a dried up chicken dish slathered with soy soy flavored jam. The ebi shumai is usually our go to favorite, but they have long removed the mustard sauce that came with the appetizer. Also, the shumai was noticeably saltier than normal and had a stronger fish odor.
1 star lost for service: We were greeted with a impromptu baby faced bouncer on our last visit who seated us in a reserved area--which for some reason was a good idea at the time? So when the reserved guests came, the staff displayed the work ethic of a millennial slacktivist and proceeded to scowl at us instead of getting our bill. They waited so long to get our bill (30 minutes, no joke) that their reserved guests started glaring at us (which was great, because these guys literally just met each other and found a common interest in hating other people that they literally just met). This grievance excludes the fancy dude with a skull ring, and the server who actually looks like a bouncer, those are the good guys.
The waiter and service was excellent, they constantly refilled us water and made sure we were okay. the interior was super nice, the food was amazing and definitely worth the price. Recommend to try it!
People working were great. Bit slow. Pricey for the quality. Some original flavors in the rolls but nothing I'd order again. Sashimi was decent.
Excellent service and staff. Prime ingredients, beautiful presentation, worth every penny. The entire Sushi bar and green tea are to die for, will be back!
This is the Holy Grail of sushi in the Twin Cities.
Five and a half bucks for an 8-piece roll of high-quality fish=unheard of. Super friendly staff. The only negative is that the kitchen closes fairly early on a weeknight (10pm).
Favorite sushi in town, always great
Amazing sushi and great service. Sit at sushi bar for best experience
Outstanding food and better service. Everything was fresh, clean and original taste. Wish there were more Sushi places in town like this.
Really good sushi in a a great central location. Staff was always attentive and friendly. Out of all the sushi places in uptown, Origami has some of the best vegetarian options. Try the Brocolini and you won't be sorry!
I wanted to try Sake and the manager Mika was very knowledgeable and helpful in making suggestions. I loved my Sake, Gyudon and eda Mame!!! The rest of the staff was great too. The food was so good I couldn't stop eating . .go try Origami in Uptown!
Amazing food!!! Best sushi in town!
The server was very nice also it's great place to go if you have a sushi lover snd a non sushi lover in your family.
A fantastic place for either sushi, ramen, or rice dishes. Had the uni, toro, and a ramen bowl all 3 were really great. Service was great and the food came out very fast.
I would easily recomend Origami to anyone.
A nice selection of sushi and other dishes, service is good and location is nice too. It's a bit small and doesn't seat many so you may want to make reservations.
Great spot for sushi and seafood! Can recommend the Philly X and the salmon belly sushi. Service could have been friendlier but overall great atmosphere and great sushi!
The sushi is great here, I loved my meal. I actually ordered take out so I didn't sit down so I can't fully give it 5 stars yet
Sushi, drinks, staff and atmosphere are all top notch! I’m from out of town and I’m so glad I found a great sushi place! Will deff be back!
Origami serves very authentic Japanese food. We have been going for years. The staff is awesone! Junior, Tomo, Fawn, Patu, Shige, Regan the manager is great and all the staff are awesome! Ichi the owner is one of a kind! Ichi has set the standard for Japanese restaurants in the Twin Cities!
The food is wonderful here, but the atmosphere is just ok. Also portions are smaller and prices are higher than other sushi restaurants in the area.
The service was great but the sushi didn't really have flavor
So delicious! Origami is absolutely one of my faves. This was my first venture into a restaurant since Covid and it felt really comfortable and safe.
The best sushi in the Twin Cities. No place can even come close.
Food was delicious and service was great. I don't think I ever ran out of water. The location/space is super cute and modern. I will definitely visit again.
Had takeout ramen and sushi. Pretty good and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Food was done right on time
This is the best sushi restaurant in Minneapolis and I've been to Billy Sushi multiple times.
Great food. Portions are pretty decent. Service is good. I have no complaints about this place.
It is our favorite sushi restaurant. The seafood is very consistently good. Highly recommended.
I love this place. My wife swears by rhe Lava or Dynamite rolls. I like the Yakiniku which is superb. They also have a full bar, great sake selections and beer.
One of my favorite places to get sushi! The staff is excellent. The food is excellent. The art is excellent. Thank you!
I'm hoping that the, already good, Uptown Origami steps its game up now that the original Origami closed.
The original had the consistently best sushi in the Twin Cities, and this location has been consistently good.
Their website is quite good. I would say their website doesn't match the experience. The meal we had last night was not thrilling. There was just something lackluster about the flavor of our food.
Best sushi I have had in MPLS. All day happy hour on Sunday. Try an adventure points menu item--I recommend the wasabi tako.
A bit pricey, but the sushi is great. Nice happy hour deals. Good outdoor seating for the warmer months.
Their patio is open and with the new building next door has the perfect amount of sun in the evening. The same great food and staff as always.
Cool place w/ great sushi. Happy hour has good prices on drinks and sushi. I'd return!
Amazing sushi, great atmosphere, a legend of sushi and japanese cuisine in the twin cities! 30 years strong says it all!!!
Origami has been my favorite Sushi restaurants in Minneapolis for twenty years.
Amazing chefs probably my favorite sushi in town. Parking can be a bit of a hassle, but it's not their fault, that's just Uptown for you
Food was so good
Food here was pretty good. It's a relatively secluded spot, and the waiters were really nice.
Try the negroni rolls
Great food. Nice staff. Seated right away with no reservation. Nice, small restaurant that wasn't overly packed.
Great and authentic. Just returned from Tokyo’s Tsukiji market and had been craving some authentic, fresh nigiri. This place delivers.
Great place for a quiet, romantic dining experience. Some of the best sushi available in the metro area. Good drink selection.
Only robotic service kept this from being 5-stars.
This place was great. The place has a very romantic environment. Our server Alysa is amazing. She's very nice and friendly.
Beautifully presented fresh, high quality sushi. The patio seating is especially nice.
Excellent service, fresh sea food, and absolutely delicious! One of my favorite roles is the salmon avocado role.
Amazing food very authentic. They had an amazing staff so friendly
Best sushi I have had in a long time and great service! The Gyoza was excellent as well.
Sushi was amazing! Service was top notch!! I definitely recommend this place to anyone that likes sushi!
Good but my wife has gluten allergies and unfortunately there wasn't much on the menu that she could eat.
Best sushi in the upper midwest!
Sushi quality on a level all its own!
Always first choice for sushi!
Their udon is fantastic.
Great place! Tremendous service, beautiful artwork and atmosphere. The food is oh so tasty! Will be back soon!
Amazing food and cocktails. We've been several times and have never been disappointed. Paid parking is available nearby.
Overrated, dragon roll is $21 an is about same size an quality as a ayce place
A little slow but I was there during the week. Sushi was great. No complaints.
One of my favorite sushi places to go to. Small, cozy atmosphere and outdoor seating.
Great vibe. Yummy sushi and one heck of a bartender. Make sure you say hello to Mr. Jr behind the bar.
The sushi is some of the best I've had in the Minneapolis area. Though it takes some time, it's worth the wait.
Sunday is happy hour specials all day and we took advantage of it, sampling numerous items at our table - all of which were delicious!
A bit of a splurge, but we keep coming back because it's the best sushi in the area.
Holy pricey Batman!!! Good sushi, sake, and Japanese whiskey. But dam, over $20 for a rainbow roll (for example).
I really love the Donburi bowls, I find the prices pretty good for Japanese food in the Twin Cities.
Our go to place for really good and fresh sushi. Staff is friendly and prompt.
The management staff here is extremely nice and attentive to your needs. Perfect spot for sushi.
Absolutely no complaints! Great atmosphere, great staff, and most importantly-great food! I will definitely be returning!
Great Japanese cuisine.
Not the best tasting Japanese food I've had but my bento box was good.
The sushi is delicious and fresh. Plus happy hour deals are incredible!
I think it's the best Sushi in Minnesota. It's delicious and the service is wonderful.
Tip top bar too, for a chill pre-film drink.

Still newcomers to sushi. Our server was very patient and helpful and the food was great!
Great place, particularly before or after a film at the Lagoon or Uptown. Go during happy hour for unbeatable deals.
The spicy miso ramen is always a great dish on a cold MN day :)
Sushi still the best in the heart of Uptown options but overall the sushi has gone down hill the past few years
Food took a while to come out, but it was worth the wait! Portions were perfect and delicious.

The beef udon was 10/10! Atmosphere and service was also great.
The food is always wonderful and so is the wait staff. However, you have to pay to park in a ramp
A bit on the pricier side maybe, but absolutely delicious
Fresh sushi, awesome staff, great service, fun atmosphere
Delicious - Caterpillar roll and California Roll. Delivery via Doordash worked well.
Yummy katsudon!! They have ramen, sushi and few other Japanese dishes.
