Reviews of O'Donovan's Irish Pub
Came in before a game. Had the Shepards pie. Was reasonably priced and well worth it. Decent quality and quantity to be full and ready to watch the game.
Sat near the entrance which would be great in better temperatures but in cold weather you will be chilled every time the door opens. Recommend sitting more internally.
Good bar and food atmosphere and would recommend to visit. Will not be getting 5 star quality service but felt the staff were all motivated and happy as one can be while dealing with people.
This place is pretty good. The service was good. We got fish and chips and the chicken pot pie. Definitely recommend if your downtown. Limited menu. Fast service
Came here before the game and had a wonderful experience! The place was packed, and the whole staff did a fantastic job keeping up with everyone's orders. We had the shepherd's pie, chicken tenders and Reuben, all were really good. If I'm ever in the area again, definitely worth a repeat visit!
It should be called O'Donovan's American Sports Bar, not Irish pub. I came in before a show expecting to enjoy some fish and chips at an Irish Pub, I got great fish and chips but wasn't aware this is a sports bar. American sports bar, no soccer or other sport to be seen but American college football. When I got there, I was one of 3 people at the front bar and I asked if they could turn on something else on 1 of the 2 TVs besides sports. He said, I don't think we put on anything else but sports. That was it. This is proceeded by a gang of people yelling and hollering at another TV with sports on it. I wish I would have known this was the atmosphere as I probably would have went somewhere else. Not everyone gives a hoot about American football or sports for that matter.
Katie and I ordered Screaming Organisms 😱. I had to tell 2 different bartenders what was in it. The 1st guy gave it to us as a shot. Ugh no! The 2nd bartenders made it better. I will have to go there again for something else. They are very nice and helpful but I like liquor not beer. Was semi busy, and I liked the place. …
I love this place! People are super awesome and friendly and food is delicious, great memories here, haven't been here in years but I definitely plan on going back if I ever go back to Minneapolis, I highly recommend! Try the shepherd's pie!
Great place to hang out after the baseball game; but you're paying baseball game prices for hard drinks. Beer was far more reasonable and the staff were very friendly. O'Donovan's has great ambiance and good open seating outside for people watching. I was inside on this trip!
Awesome place... good local craft beer on tap (I had Summit's Winter Ale), the potato soup was amazing, and the corned beef and cabbage was also amazing. Good selection of beer & whiskey. I overheard the chef mention practically all of their dishes are from scratch, and it's easy to tell. I'll definitely be back when I'm in Minneapolis!
The Guinness was delious. The pub and a cool Irish feel.
Awesome Irish bar. Oldest around, built in Ireland and brought here! Chips were solid, fish was a little bland. Beers were great...house terms...Black and Tan is Guiness and Summit ESB...awesome. the half and half is more traditional. Great stop before a show at First Ave. Kinda bummed there is a giant TV over the O'Donovan's sign above the bar but whaddaya gonna do.
Great Irish bar with a cool atmosphere and decor. Great selection of whiskey and good menu of draft and canned beer. Sean the bartender was awesome! I highly recommend it! Our group had a great time.
Simply a great Irish pub! Chicken Tenders were fantastic! Harps lager was malty sweet with no bitterness! Pub food, not complete dinner menu.
Got there early for dinner before a BB game..great hot fish and chips! Friendly server will go back🥰😎
Food was very good. Four stars only because menu is limited at this time. Service was friendly, helpful and fast.
Delicious corned beef sandwich and bbq chicken wings! 10/10!
I’ve been a massive fan of O’Donovan’s since I was young. O’Donovan’s is in the perfect spot to pregame before a Twins/ Wolves game or a concert at First Ave. It’s one of my favorites to catch a big soccer match or even watch esports with some fellow fans.
They’ve got great Irish food, a variety of beers on tap along with a number of drinks and specials. Big fan of this Minneapolis landmark.
Service is fast and friendly. Sit at the bar and meet new people around you! The bar is so close to Target Field, you get all of the family traffic and can hear from people on their very interesting life stories! Prices are kind of high for the drinks but that does include a decent variety of craft beers in tap and all the cocktails you can dream up.
Came down for Twins Home Opener and we always stop in at O'Donovans for some pregame drinks! This time we stopped in, had a hard cider with a shot of Jameson to cut the sweetness and some potato soup! The soup was the best I've tasted since my mama's recipe! The atmosphere is nice. Bartenders and wait staff are friendly & fun.
Was just the type of pub we were looking for, drinks and atmosphere and the service was all excellent
Stopped in for a quick drink and loved the vibe!
The fish and chips were excellent. The beer selection is good. If you sit outside the view of Target Field is terrific
It’s like walking into a beautiful bar in the beautiful West Cork Ireland. The food is amazing, the pints are the real deal. The owner is a breath of fresh air 🍀☘️🍺👏👌
Warm. Wood. Cozy. Everything you want in a classic Irish pub. There is a small stage for music, fireplace, and screens fur sports.
Just a wonderful atmosphere, and the bartender was very pleasant. The outdoor seating was inviting and the food looked amazing.
We will be back.
Only went in for a pre concert beverage and it did the trick. Good beer on tap, reasonable prices for being downtown and the service was good overall. No complaints but nothing to make it a "love it experience".
The protions are amazing and the food was fantastic, I felt like I was in Dublin. Very friendly staff at this authentic pub.
First place I ended up in when I arrived in Minneapolis. The food and drink was excellent and the bar staff were excellent and super friendly.
A bunch of St. Louis Blues fans packed out O'Donovans Pub for the 2022 NHL Winter Classic. The drinks were great and the food was surprisingly great as well. Thank you for giving us Blues fans a great place to celebrate new years and again to Celebrate an awesome Blues Victory.
Great fries. And I think the Ranch is homemade because it's AMAZING. Oh and the building is almost worth the trip in itself. The woodwork is beautiful.
Great service! Great pub! Couldn't be closer to the Target Center... Minimal food options, but they know what they do well, and offer you great quality in those options!
Stopped here after the Jays Twins game and decided to try the fish and chips. Very disappointing. Fish was bland. Fries were undercooked. Good service though for how busy it was at the pub. Our server always checked up on us. Great selection of whiskey.
When it rains before a ballgame, this is the place you get ready for cheering while stuffing your stomach with cheap but delicious burger and craft beer
Had a bite to eat before the wolves game. The chicken pot pie was amazing! Just wish it was a bigger serving, it didn't seem like a lot of food for $18.
Great restaurant, great service and even better food. Highly recommend the shepards pie, chicken pot pie, cornbeef and cabbage and the potato soup all of which have been in the owner’s family recipe book for decades!
The staff was VERY tolerant of my drunk friend! Much appreciated!
The perfect bar if you think the general bar scene can be annoying and you would prefer to chill with your friends and drink beers. Great service. Would come again
Best chicken pot pie I’ve ever had
Great food wonderful staff food was spectacular would definitely go back if I was in town again
Great Irish pub experience! Tony the bartender was so fun & friendly! Owner & son lovely greeters. Fish & chips fabulous.
Atmosphere is good and the bartender was awesome. Posted hours don't seem to be accurate. Shows them opening at 4pm on a Friday and when I showed up at 4:30, they were still closed. May have just been an off day. Not sure.
Great spot to pre-game before going to the Target Center or First Avenue!
A phenomenal restaurant with some of the best food I've ever had!
Let me just start by saying “WOW” in the best way possible!! My Husband and I came in Sunday evening and were served by Reese, despite how hectic things were around us she did not miss a beat. I’m not a big review person but after going to another bar downtown tonight I feel like she deserves her props. Reese gave us the best dining experience I think we’ve ever had in our 6 years of living near downtown. We’ve been to O’Donovans before but it was nothing like this, she truly is a rockstar at what she does!
I could not say honestly how the Irish pub is because I have not been to it as of yet, but come on what Irish pub in Minnesota wouldn't be exciting? We are diversified community within Minnesota in Minneapolis especially so if you want to enjoy your time no matter the culture go check out and I respond it could be fun
Very authentic food & drinks. Live & love ❤️ the luck 🍀 of the Irish …
Shepherd's pie and potato soup are both excellent. Very friendly staff. I arrived shortly after the rush to go to a Twins game and enjoyed a quiet dinner with an attentive staff. Thanks to all!
Drinks were great after the twins game while we waited for the crowd to clear from the parking garage. Not a very big menu selection though
Good service, good food. In my opinion fish was a bit bland, but the burger was great. Atmosphere is good, but slightly overpriced for the quality of the food. We will be back.
Another recommendation would be to have someone seat customers as it was a struggle to find an open table.
We just stopped in for a quick bite before a concert across the street. Ordered the BBQ chicken wings and a Cesar salad. The wings are huge and very meaty, not like the tiny ones you get at most places these days. Unfortunately the sauce was not great, far too much vinegar for my liking and there was a lot of sauce. They were quite smokey so if you like that kind of sauce go for it but we didn't. The only other flavour option was hot. If they had more selection of flavours for their wings I think they would be a big hit. The Caesar salad was just meh, same as you get as any side anywhere, nothing special. Staff were super friendly. I'd go back and try something else next time.
the service and bartenders are welcoming. The bartenders are always on point and get what you want. Real life😁
Had a great experience tonight! Alyssa was awesome. She was engaging and offered the perfect amount of service. One of the people in our group even left his gloves and hat and she ran out into the freezing rain to make sure he got it. If you want a server who takes care of you and makes your visit fun, ask for her section. We will definitely be back.
Sadly the first bloody mary I ordered came in a very small glass with no salt on the rim, no olives or pickle and no side chaser of beer, I had to ask the server for all of that which seemed so excessive, normally anywhere you go that's what a bloody will come with for the most part. The food was great though! Got the burger with added bacon is was wonderful. The booth we sat in did not have full padding/cushioning like you will normally find at most restaurants also, and the table was very small and awkward feeling, if I was bar hopping I wouldn't care but sitting down for a meal I just didnt feel very comfortable.
It's a nice after work get away, we work at the Target Center, and after a long event it's it good to have a place close to relax at.
The Shepard’s Pie is ++++ Great Work Chef Brian!!
In all sincerity, of the 5 bars we went to in the area O'Donovan's was hands down the best in customer service. We sat on the patio and not one of our drinks was less than ¼ full before having a new one brought to us. Kudos to that tremendous server! I wish I caught her name to give her personal praise. My only regret was that the patio was so charming I never made it inside to see more of the place. 🍀
Love the bar/restaurant. Service was awesome. Selections were great. Very well kept. Not too loud, even though it was packed.
I had such an an amazing time here tonight. The crowd here was a pleasure and the crew was even better. What an honor it was! I was served the most spectacular chicken pot pie and fish and chips. The pickle backs were great too! ;)
I've always had spectacular service here and as a connoisseur of french fries I can attest to their quality and the tastiness of that random sauce they are served with. They still won't give me the recipe! I usually just order fries. Cozy feel even when crowded. One of few places I go to hang out downtown.
Our server was 'Sean S.' and he was fantastic. Upon arrival the establishment appeared to be drowning busy. We were informed to sit wherever we would like to. After waiting with menu's for around 3 minutes, my date and I figured out what drinks we would like, and to my surprise we even came to decisions on what we would order. Sean popped over to our table and asked if our server has met with us yet. Once I informed him they hadn't, he gracefully offered to grab our drink order. I was stoked when he also took the Hail Mary that we were ready to order food after only being there for 5 minutes, and he put our food order in. Our drinks came very quickly and as I was nearly finished with my Guinness Sean checked in which enabled me to order another without having to do at the arrival of my food which is critical. & it turned out that our food got sent to the wrong table, and Sean had to resubmit our order and it would be taking longer than expected. Sean took our food off our bill, but it actually never felt like we were really 'waiting' for our food, because he grabbed our order with clutch timing like a boss. So Sean S you're awesome man.
Had dinner with some friends. I ordered the fish and chips, it was done well. They have some fresh made kettle chips that come with a garlic dip that were phenomenal as an appetizer. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meal and we had a good time.
The food is great but I was really disappointed last night because some equipment was having problems and I couldn't get my corned beef and cabbage. I've been waiting so long... Next time!
Awesome pre game experience, great food and amazing staff
Great place to meet and hang out before a Timberwolves game. The classic pub fare is good, and It has a great atmosphere. The large bar space and the many competent bartenders mean you can get a drink quickly even when it's super busy!
The menu was limited, but the food was good. My waitress said the summer shandy was the same as a blue moon. It's like comparing oranges to lemons🙄 …
This place never disappoints! Love the hard working and sociable employees and the best beer on the cities! Must stop everytime I'm down town!
I love O'Donovans, maybe it's the Irish in me but they always have had a good selection of the beers I like and whiskey...... Never doubt their selection of whiskeys! If I'm in Minneapolis chances are I've stopped in for a good beer or a chicken pot pie (which is very good)! Stop in chances are you won't be disappointed.
The location is what draws me here. Next to First Ave and Target Center. Food is fine, drinks are fine. Generally a place to sit. Seem like they've been there forever. Always an easy choice when I'm in the neighborhood.
Great place grab some eats and have a drink before an event at the Target Center! On top of that: great vibe and staff!
Cute little bar. Great atmosphere! Lots of outdoor seating makes for easy people watching. Try the corned beef poutine!
Excellent food, great service. This is a family owned and operated Irish pub and restaurant. Parts of the placed were actually shipped here from Ireland (!) If the Barney can be believed; and I have never had better traditional Irish fare anywhere in my life.
This has always been one of my favorites and often my go to spot if I'm downtown before a Twins game. It can be hard to find a pub with Guinness on tap and even more difficult to find one that pours it right but they know how it's done here. Food wise, it's fish and chips all the way with malt vinegar or if you need something a bit more substantial go for the Sheppard's Pie, although I have yet to find something on the menu I don't like. Check there website for live music, especially if they got a local band playing some classic Irish bar songs, makes for a great night.
Fast and great service. The staff was amazing and even though we were only in for a bit, answered all questions throughly!
Food was excellent, staff was friendly, prices were reasonable, and it's within walking distance of Target Field. There's not a whole lot more you could ask for.
I highly recommend the snugs in back, they're comfortable and cozy.
It was great for before the timberwolves game but a little pricey 2 beers for $20 including tip
This place came highly recommended by a fraternity brother of mine. While it was not *quite* as spectacular as he made it sound, it strikes me as exactly the type of place I would stake out and post up in pretty much bi-weekly at least. Cool vibe. Old-school drink artistry.
Love this place. Great wings. They dont bend you over on drinks. And our server Owen was super attentive
O'Donovan's is where my friends and I always stop before a local concert. The inside of the place has a very unique, rustic look, and the food and service is always great. Make sure to order something that includes their corned beef!
Was surprised by how good this place is. Beer, service, and food were all good.
Awesome service and food. Get the potato soup. Chicken pot pie was great! Hard cider was good along with the draft beer and Irish whiskey choices.
If you have Kyle as your server, you're going to get the best service possible. I guarantee it.
Stopped in after picking up tickets under 100 degrees heat. Grabbed a cold Guinness and water to cool down. Great staff, clean establishment and good vibe.
Friendly service. Great burgers (mini sliders). Good beer (Guinness Blonde). Not overcrowded. All around enjoyable and we'll be back.
Smiling, helpful servers and a varied menu. Definitely has that pub feel. Great food. Gluten free options. The beet salad was devine!
O'Donovan's Irish Pub is an authentic and excellent experience. They have Harp, they have Jameson Black Barrel, and they have an excellent cottage pie. (they call it a shepherd's pie, but we won't get into Irish semantics in this review.)
Brandon is absolutely hands down the best server. I would come back jus because of him
Great server, wish they would have been playing some traditional Irish music 🎵 …
Love the location of this bar. Right in busyness of downtown. The atmosphere is cozy especially in the winter. Great for grabbing a beer and food. Not the best specialty drinks.
Best place for a drink before a show, or before running off to enjoy your night. Hell, if you spend your entire night here it's a blast too! Don't hesitate, swing in now!
Right across the street from Target Center! My corned beef, cabbage, and mashed potatoes are amazing! My friend had the fish and chips. Very fresh, crunchy, and oh, so YUM!
Fresh beers and attentive service always. OK prices, but VERY convenient for pre- and post-game drinks and chow. A very consistent product. Thanks!
Came here after a concert at target stadium. Was very crowded. Servers are trying their best, but too many people for them to keep up with. Was a challenge to order food here
Can't really give it an accurate review. We tried stopping in after a Lynx game for something to eat and the bar didn't even have any food service. It was disappointing.
Stopped by on the way to a Twins game with my son. We both had the chicken pot pie and it was very good. Fun atmosphere on the patio.
Attended a party there. It was a nice venue with good food.
Lively and good fun. Fair prices and chill bartenders
Big Dave was the kindest, most genuine bartender I have ever met. He turned my friend's bad luck birthday into something to remember. Do you Big Dave.
Great staff! Fast service definitely coming back!
A good Irish pub experience in Minneapolis. Their proximity to the Minneapolis "A" parking ramp makes them a good choice if you're headed out to the Target Center or the nearby theaters -- dinner before your event, cocktails after while the traffic clears.
Loved the chicken tenders but menu was quite small. Otherwise loved it! Nice place
Been wanting to come here for a long time. Food and beer was great. Staff was very friendly. Definitely will go back.
Fun date before a concert!
Just spent a cozy Christmas Eve at O’Donovan’s where Big Dave single-handedly served us all and made us all feel like family. Cheers to this great pub with a big heart!
The decor and service and beers were excellent. A great place to hand before a game at the absolutely wonderful Target Field.
wow this place can get fun at night. I honestly don't remember too much of the night but the staff was great, the bartender was quick, and for the most part this place was pretty clean.
Generous portions, delicious food, and our server was great!
Always a good time here, but better in the summer with an open patio. Can be very loud, would recommend earplugs for anyone sensitive to loud crowds.
First time in MN. Stopped in after a Twins game. Glad I did. Fun bar with great service. Good prices, good fun!
I've only been in there once I have not been down there in Minneapolis in a very long time it seemed to be a nice place it's been almost a year ago I was in there for a couple of drinks before a Black Sabbath concert
Just arrived Minneapolis late, walked couple blocks from hotel in light rain, sought refuge in O'D's. Glad we did. Nate was cool, provided us with food, drink, and ponchos to walk through rain back to Hampton Inn. We shall return.
Great time. Great beer. Finished the twins game here after a 45 min rain delay.
Excellent Beer. Excellent Food. Excellent Service. I can’t recommend it enough. It’s a must stop when downtown.
Good selection of beer and a good place to talk with friends, rather than hearing thumping dance music. They had plenty of tvs for sporting events too.
This is incredible Irish pub that has in all seriousness been transported from Ireland to Minneapolis piece by piece! Talk about history! The corned beef is OUT OF THIS WORLD!
Cool atmosphere. Fast service. Waitress gave my friend tequila when she asked for a fruity shot 🤣🤔 …
Come on out and support this awesome local business. I personally get the hot wings with a lowball of whiskey.
It is such a lively place, but that makes it all the better! Such a fun pub. Also, the Strongbow on tap was fabulous!
Great place to sit by the fire pit. Drinks are not too expensive either and staff is friendly
The lamb chops are absolutely awesome! I'm not a huge lamb chop person but these are the best I have ever had
Great atmosphere. Tough to get a beer when it's really busy but still good service
I had a burger and my wife had the chicken pot pie. Food and atmosphere were great with reasonable prices. Service was friendly and efficient.
We showed up in a group of twenty and the service was still great!
Across the street from 1st Ave=,Good food, Nice outdoor seating,Very Busy, Takes a little while to get service, But they do a AMAZING for having so many people.
Good Irish sports bar with a decent craft beer selection and good food.
One of my favorite places to visit when I'm in town.
Authentic Irish bar/restaurant. Good food. Recommend.
Long wait for food. The corned beef and cabbage was delicious. Our waitress was excellent.
Best reuben sandwich I have ever had!
Food was excellent. You dont feel like your in minnesota. Best Irish Pub I've been to. Hands up.
The food was decent. Service was fast at the bar. Good beer selection.
Great food and atmosphere! I loved having a meal here before a show at First Ave.
I had an amazing fish and chips with fish that were huge and Fries that were delicious. Service was great as usual
Lots of seating and beer selection
Actually feels much more authentic than the sports bars that serve Guinness and call themselves Irish...
Just had drinks. Nice and close to the Twins stadium. Good service.
How can you not love this place?
Awesome service, except when the bar tenders tossed our drinks cuz we went outside to smoke...hold your beers people
Very nice place. Excellent service and didnt wait to be seated or get my drink.
Great place our waitres Jordan was very pleasant food was grate has the Irish steaw also had some wings
Awesome spot to hit after the game. Super nice staff and the ambiance is amazing! Very reasonably priced as well. :)
The wife and I had a couple beers there after the Elton John concert it was good
Nice Irish pub. Great place to stop for a couple beers before a Minnesota Twins Game!
Cool spot. Feels pretty Irish to me, and always seems to be busy. Great spot to hang out before or after games!
I highly recommend the chicken pot pie or the fish and Chips if you're not that hungry try the Irish soup....
Cans of cider at the ready! Food is ok had nice wings and then fish and chips.
Not the beer variety they advertise. Normal 10 variety selection. Decent whiskey selection and good pours.
The chicken pot pie is fantastic the fish and chips is extremely good the service is fantastic come on in and try it out and prove me wrong
It was great. Casual, with flawless service and nice music in the background too. Fairly low prices
Great Irish pub, seating inside and out. Great beer selection and the food is delicious.
Great pub. Even has a real Irish bartender.
Great traditional Irish grub, good beers poured in an excellent fashion with solid and friendly service.
Bit spendy depending on what you drink, but it's a go to before or after events in the area, specifically Target Center, Pantages or First Ave.
A Very Festive Irish atmosphere with many, ample menu items and a great beverage selection to choose from.
Corned Beef and cabbage meal is awesome. A bit expensive but worth the date. Recommended.
The food was truly OUTSTANDING, as was the service! Would give it 10 stars if we could!
Good food but limited menu. Best chicken pot pie I ever had.
Totally serviceable Irish Pub. Great location for Target Center pre and post game
Alright place. Very dark atmosphere. Decent drink prices.
Fantastic food. They give you more than enough fries so come hungry.
Great friendly environment. Good bartender. Amazing food
Comfortable atmosphere, good food. Convenient location to Target field and Target center
Very nice pub food looked good didn't eat just stopped in for drinks
Waiter was on the ball a great bar for having fun after twins game
Close to target field, great chicken pot pie, Irish atmospheres, dark walnut walls tv's, good service, booths and tables
Friendly staff and good food. The avocado caprese with grilled chicken is a very good choice.
Great place I will be back as soon as I come down that way again. Service was helpful and there when you needed them
Traditional Irish from the decor to the drinks to the food. Perfect pre-First Ave concert place.
Love that they are open again. Give them a try and support downtown restaurants opening again.
Customer service is great here, great food good beer and Irish hospitality at its best.
Great food. Great staff. Nice whiskey selection
Quiet place for a few pints before the Twins game.
Nice place to get a drink before a concert/game. Nice atmosphere!
The service was exemplary and the food was simply delicious
Good food, good atmosphere, fun staff, good to visit a Minnesota Irish pub for a Montana Irishman
Was able to score an order of poutine off menu. Amazingly good, amazingly thankful.
Cool location and and atmosphere. Good prices, average food.
Loved it! Good old fashioned pub! Great service
Simple menu drinks had alcohol in them couldn't ask for more!
With their sister locale Jake O'Conners gone in excelsior, its worth the drive out!
Very limited food menu. Average entree is around $16. Typically "Irish" themed bar.
It's an Irish pub. Lots of excellent beer choices as well as whisky. Go Irish!!
This is a classic pub with hearty food options. Great atmosphere.
Great staff. Good food
Really packed. Spent a little time here before a concert. Seems like it could be a lot of fun.
Enjoying to fun and watching to NBA playoffs.
The beer is fantastic but I go here for the food.
Food was great, beers were expensive but they may have been Super Bowl prices
The place was PACKED which must say something about its prices. Good food and drinks.
Service was nice and the food and drinks were good.
Great 🍺 and food.

Great spot! I go before a game or after! I love going after a game to wait for traffic to die down. Great food too! Love the staff!
Great food, nice atmosphere--corned beef sandwich was spectacular!
