Reviews of Masu Sushi & Robata
I loved the food here!! I came here with my mom, and we were served by Matthew, who was an amazing server. They were super nice and helpful, they even offered me ice cream when I had some really spicy sushi.
My lil sister was in town from ks and she’s vegan we came here on a whim and it was so good. They have their own lil vegan menu my sister was impressed she can’t wait to go back. Highly recommend if you want to try vegan Sushi. There whole menu sounds good.
Great date night at Masu. Vegetarian sushi was very tasty and looked just as pretty as normal sushi. They had a whole vegan/vegetarian menu with a lot to pick from for us, and the server was so nice about it. We got the vegetable yakisoba and some veggie rolls. Lavender gin martinis were divine!
This place was great. We had the firecracker rolls, the poke rolls, plus the shrimp tempura on a steamed bun and the pork belly ramen. Everything was amazing. The server was also very friendly and helpful. You will not be disappointed.
I love getting ramen here! I'd say it's one of the better places to get ramen in the Twin Cities. I usually get the pork belly ramen and it has a good amount of meat in there. My husband gets the tonkatsu curry ramen and he loves that. We have also tried the sushi and the fish tastes really fresh but the prices are pretty steep on the sushi.
This place is awesome! The atmosphere was chilled and the service was great! We definitely had fun with the sake flights. The drinks was strong and we like that. The food was amazing. Bummed that they ran out of oysters when we went but the sushi and ramen noodles was so good. I totally recommend this place.
Ordered a crunchy spicy salmon roll and was disappointed. The roll would just fall apart when you try to pick them, well they were already falling apart before picking it. Good sushi DO NOT fall apart. With the money that I’m paying for, I don’t think its worth it. Miso soup was bad too, they probably boiled the miso that caused the bitter taste. Not coming back any time.
Quality sushi, assembled with care. Incredible robata, very friendly wait staff, and highly proficient kitchen staff. Sushi bar is incredible to watch.
They forgot to bring our appetizers and were pretty slow to service our table throughout the night. The sushi was fine, but nothing to write home about
The roll/nigiri selection is not very large, and I felt like I definitely overspent for what I received. We did enjoy the atmosphere inside the restaurant, as it was comfortable and lively
Very friendly staff.
Food does take a while to get to.
More variety would be appreciated 😊
Great ambience and very nice sushi for middle America. The owner is very passionate and will make a nice recommendation
Fantastic sushi, great staff, delicious drinks (Lychee Martini is to die for), and Sopporo on tap!!
Nice place close to to campus. I came during lunch and the service was fast and friendly. The ramen was legit, and so was the sushi roll. I wasn't a fan of the tuna tataki, but then again I have ridiculously high standards for that. The spring rolls were OK, my friend got it without mushrooms, which I think would have made them awesome instead of just OK. I'll be back again when the mood for ramen strikes!
It’s great to find a place that is open late, with great food and amazing service. After a long work day, I was super happy to find this restaurant. The portions are adequate. Quality over quantity. Will definitely add to my list for Minneapolis and will be back. さよなら!
After a 2 day dusk visit I can safely say it is fast, friendly, and extremely worthwhile.
Sit inside near the vintage Japanese Pachinko games, or out on the patio if you like, smoking is permitted though so be in mind not to get offended as it is a feature of the patio, I am not a smoker so at first I was slightly put off by this, but I was quickly reminded of better times when I would never be offended by such-and-such of this sort, the food..... nothing brings more focus than that.
Food wise, amazing presentation and quality, for $1 each I had the pleasure of fresh Quail Eggs, again presented in a glass with proper garnish, delicious to the eyes and tongue.
Highly recommended.
I tried the Ramen Crispy Pork in Curry Broth. Yummy yummy and will be back for more. Flavors pop, as so far the best Japanese I've had so far. Good job guys keep up the good work
Really really amazing quality of food. Sushi was simply superb, and though the quantity of food seemed a little small, it was nevertheless filling. Attention was paid to every single detail of the meal, from the appearance to even the quality of wasabi and ginger (way above average). Service was very prompt, lots of creative drink choices, great place to go all around. Atmosphere was busy and noisy, it seems a popular place. Just watch out for parking, people literally wait to ticket you the moment your meter expires.
This is my favorite sushi place. On a Friday night at 7pm seated in 10 minutes with no reservations, excellent. Service was excellent as usual. I have never once been disappointed by the sushi and again it was fabulous!!
My wife and I went for happy hour yesterday. We really enjoyed the Okonomiyaki Tots! We had no idea what to expect from them, and were amazed how much was there for the price. We really loved the contrast of the kimchi with the sauce to the tater tots. We did not love the shishito peppers as the seemed overcooked and almost paper dry. We liked both sushi rolls, but preferred the Crunchy Spicy Salmon roll over the Dynamite roll, mainly due to the variety of textures. Service at the bar was great, never felt like we were waiting for refreshing of our drinks. We will return again soon.
My favorite spot for sushi! It's fresh and always has a beautiful presentation. The other menu items: robata, buns and ramen are pretty tasty too! Pictured: fresh sashimi, veggie power roll, poke roll and kinoko (mushroom) robata.
Love coming here for drinks, gotta try their Big Man Japan, comes with Sapporo beer and a house whiskey shot, great Ramen and sushi, love the pork belly buns too
Went here for my birthday by myself cause my husband was sick. Had some pretty solid food for happy hour. It's not my favorite ramen in town, but it's a fun place to stop in!
Really good sushi! Service is generally really good, but at times slow to get food. However well worth wait.
Great place, with reasonable prices. The only thing i was not completely happy were steamed buns, they were not that fluffy as most places make. Overall food was great
This place is a personal favorite of mine. The ambience and feel of this place is just so right. I used to live in the area and I dont come here often anymore, but the lo-fi music, the chatter of the chefs behind the bar, how they greet you when you come in, and the food just hit it spot on, this time especially. Yes, Ive had okay visits here in the past, but today was pretty great. The seasonal specials were right on. I was dining alone, but sure didnt feel like I was alone.
These days days kind of blend together and its just so exhausting. Had a rough day, "hard to get out of bed" type of day. Came here and felt very welcome.
In terms of food quality this has probably been the best experience out of dozens of coming here. Suddenly this day is not so bad anymore.
This place is is so delicious. I had the veggie power, miso soup and edamame. Every bit of it was terrific! We ended our night with the flourless chocolate torte which was the best we had ever had. Our server, Emily, was such so knowledgeable and kind. Such a wonderful experience! We will be back!
If you never had Japanese food, or your date is getting tired of olive garden, this is a good place.
Ramen is about 3 out of 5, sake collection is 4 out of 5, rolls are 4 out of 5, soba is f out of here.
Do not get soba here. You’re welcome.
I enjoyed my lunch at Masu, the happy hour beef udon was flavorful and filling, and was completed with their house sake (warm). Excellent food. The atmosphere however was slightly stressful, as the noise from the kitchen, the washing dishes, other customers and the over-head speakers made it unpleasant to have a conversation with my wife. If attention was given to this, it could easily be a five stars.
I love this place. If there's room at the bar, it's my favorite place to eat sushi in the Cities. The majority of my most transcendent sushi experiences have been at that bar. Consistently great.
Update: Inflation is evident, but the sushi is still great. Tonight the sushi chef surprised me with a dessert plate. Lovely.
Love this place. Clean bathrooms. Sushi was served nicely. The head sushi chef came out and talked with us
LOVE sitting at the bar here and talking to the staff and other regulars. There's usually a wait at dinner and near the end of happy hour if you're looking to sit at the bar. Fantastic cocktails btw! Be sure to wait to be seated at the bar even if it's slow. I've had a hostess openly scold me twice after waiting several minutes at the front with barely any guests the in the afternoon. Crunchy spicy salmon roll and the dynamite roll are probably my favorites. Also appreciate that they don't drown the rolls in sauce like some places do.
Can be a pricey visit outside of happy hour but the staff is fabulous. Four stars given the rice tends to be a bit soft often and sometimes the rolls don't stay together well a a result. Fish had always been great in quality and flavor considering were in MN.
Omakase dinner was a valiant effort but not anywhere near worth the cost. For more detailed food reviews check out fancydinner.club and follow us on Instagram @fancydinnerclub
My co workers and I were craving sushi so we stopped here. I ordered a spicy tuna roll and albacore nigiri. The food took longer than it usually takes.
My spicy tuna roll was the smallest roll I've ever seen. See pic- it was very thinly cut and only had 6 pieces when I'm used to thick cuts with 8 pieces. The roll itself tasted fine though. Their nigiri needs some work. There were a no scallions on it and it came with no ponzu sauce nor was it offered.
If I'm ever in MN again I'll definitely pass on this place. I was still hungry after eating here and had to grab a snack at my hotel on the way up to my room hah!
Went here for my birthday dinner and it was delicious. Our waitress was also really nice and helpful with explaining the menu.
Always fantastic! I've been coming here since probably 2013 and it's only gotten better through the years. Drinks are good, service is great, but the food.... I drive a half hour+ now to get it. Everything is delicious, but the pork belly ramen is lip smacking fantastic and the sushi is SO %$#@ GOOD!!
This is excellent. Not enough words to describe this NE Minneapolis fixture. Perfect to get together with friends, relatives and for Date nights.
Fantastic spot for sushi and exotic drinks. Arthur was our server and he spent ample time explaining the nuances of Sake to us. Over the top awesome service and food to boot. I recommend their ‘double precious’ if you enjoy cocktails - pictured. Also note it’s street parking and can get a bit tough in the NE area. Allow for ample time to find a parking spot if meeting up with folks.
Wonderful NE Minneapolis sushi spot. Energetic and attentive staff. Love this place!
At happy hour it's 12 bucks for pork belly ramen and only 2 bucks more for a PBR and let me tell you it's not that bad of a deal not that bad at all. It's not drive the family across town good or anything but it's wicked quick and delicious. Sushi and other drink specials, too. I'd go back. In fact I have!
Very underwhelmed by the dining experience. Food was not worth its price with sushi rolls averaging $20-25 each. Limited selection as well.
Excellent food and amazing service! This location now has an event space for larger groups and parties!
Service was ok. Flavors were good. Portions felt deliberately small, almost unwelcoming. We spent over $50 on a meal for 2 and left still hungry.
There's a reason the miso soup is smiling at you... For sushi lovers with a moment to spare for lunch, and who don't want to break the bank, Masu serves up this gem. A small garden salad, a bowl of miso soup, 4 pieces of chef's choice sushi and a maki roll. For $12.
This price does ensure that this meal it is indeed the chef's choice, so don't bother requesting anything in particular for your sushi or maki, but do let them know if you have an allergy to a certain class of seafood. The quality is as good as anything else served on the menu, and for those who have never experienced Japanese food, or the genius that is Masu, this is a perfect entry point.
If you are less adventurous about your sushi, you can always order a la carte off the main menu, but I would suggest you place your tastebuds in the hands of the experts, at least for one meal, just to see what you end up with. Think of it as sushi roulette with much lower stakes!
The personable service is an added plus, as is the brightly decorated dining room and bar.
Best sushi and service in MN!!! Always part of the clean plate club here!! Soo yummy!
Masu was an all around positive 5 star experience. Food is quality and great tasting , pricing is fair and the service is pleasant and attentive.
Drink and food menu are both fabulous. The happy hour deals are truly a steal. The staff is always friendly. Bar manager Liz has always gone above and beyond to make sure that my experience is top notch.
Masu is a fan favorite, however it seemed a little too mainstream for me. I have had their sushi in the past, and it is alright. Their appetizers are where it is at truly. It is quite spendy for what you order. We got the duck gyoza, shrimp steamed buns, 2 beers, one order of hot sake and pork ramen for about $80 for this most recent visit. Appetizers were phenomenal, however, the ramen had little to no flavor in the traditional broth and the entree came out cold. I would recommend upgrading to the spicy broth. I am not sure I would come back for the ramen (it cost $18), but I would definitely come back for apps and drinks. Great service otherwise from our server!
Masu is a great Asian restaurant. On the corner of the street is nice. The interior is pretty flashy but not distracting and has a fairly unique look among restaurants (especially Asian restaurants). The food is very good here, the spicy food is actually fairly spicy (which I enjoy) and they have 4 pages of drinks! Overall, if you are going around the area here, this is one of the better restaurants you can visit, no matter what kind of food you want.
Always delicious food and an enjoyable experience. It was way too long since we were there last.
Consistently amazing. Exceptional service. Fun atmosphere. Always a favorite.
Great service I don't think the food matches the price though
So good! Food was amazing, service was very friendly. They substituted soy paper for seaweed for me and no quality was lost. The melon sake was way too easy to drink. 😉 …
Sushi was excellent and the cocktails were very interesting. Will be back to try a few more alongside a roll at the sushi bar 🍣 …
Fast friendly service; great variety of japanese style dishes.
Masu is my favorite neighborhood sushi place. Always get uzura and if they’ve got it have salmon belly
Friendly staff.. yummy and fresh sushi. A little congested seating though
Fantastic appetizers, the sushi is top notch, and the main dishes are really well done. I had the Yakisoba with tofu, and it was hands down the best fried tofu I've had in years. Made the missus birthday a little more special!
Loved the atmosphere. Super awesome food and courteous staff.
Had a spontaneous dinner with my friend and her sushi-loving ten-year-old, and it was wonderful! I had the yakisoba which was delicious! Also our waitress was excellent. Definitely a great spot to check out!
Awesome food always a treat though, their happy hour isn't great. Just 1$ off their most popular dishes. Prices are already reasonable so I highly recommend!
Atmosphere is very laid back and the decor is fun and interesting! If you look closely each figure is decorated very detailed and uniquely. There are also pachinko machines, kinda like a slot machine pinball game!
Awesome food, amazing service. Whenever we go to the MOA, this is on our "must do" list.
Great sushi in Minneapolis with a big menu to please even non-sushi eaters. Highly recommend.
Masu sushi was great! The service was friendly, the food was fresh! You HAVE to try the bacon wrapped dates, they were incredible!
This place never disappoints. I just started working in the neighborhood, and ordered take out for the first time last week. I typically eat in. The service is always great, but I was so impressed by the host. He is a master at multitasking and took my order and payment, as well as directed many other parties to tables, all with a huge smile on his face. I ordered a couple of sushi rolls, and they were fresh and delicious as always. This place definitely goes down as a favorite in my book.
Always good sushi. The waitress we had didn't even flinch at me and my friend crying over dead pets at the table (you know one minute your catching up the next minute you're morning Jasper and Tails that have crossed the rainbow bridge). She was the sweetest.
I ordered a bunch of sushi for my brothers birthday. I didn't mention anything about what it was for except that I was ordering for four adults. The chefs organized the sushi beautifully on a large platter. Rolls that were similar in appearance or style were arranged far apart from each other, and they wrote what each one was on the lid above the item. Everyone was happy and satisfied, and with the short consultation over the phone we only had about one roll worth when we were done.
They made it a really great experience.
The ramen was absolutely delicious, I ordered a spicy Pork Belly Ramen. The sushi was also good. Also if you're into Sake you must try the "White River" 10/10
Food is great. But timing is off. Went with my daughters for my birthday. Got edamame right away, then my daughters got their ramen. I sat and watched them both eat an entire bowl of ramen while waiting for my sushi, stomach growling! But worth it when it finally came.
Have been frequenting this place for many years but my visit yesterday was disappointing. Quality is somewhat there but the menu is a fraction of what it was and prices have gone up at least 30%. Happy hour menu was underwhelming and not much different cost wise from the regular. I understand times are tough but it is tougher to justify going to these places even more now.
It would be a disservice to this great restaurant to give anything less than a five-star review. The sushi is neatly prepared and reliably delicious, and Masu’s spicy tuna and firecracker rolls are among the best sushi rolls I have had from any restaurant. Masu is also distinguished by the degree to which its chefs go to make patrons feel welcome and appreciated. Overall, I have had exceptional experiences at Masu, and I would certainly recommend it!
Excellent food and drink. I had the pork belly ramen (definitely recommend) while everyone else at the table had sushi. It all looked and tasted awesome. I had a stronger sake with my ramen that paired nicely. Our service was great. I will be back.
The poke roll was delicious and the chef prepared everything in front of me so that was really good. Bartender was friendly. I'll gladly go back.
Excellent food and service...
Ask for Anna... She's Awesome and Sweet.
Good food and great service. The ambience is a little meh. The interiors are all over the place, so that sort of ruins the dining experience. Overall the food was great. Their chicken momo and nordeast sushi are a must.
I had some sushi and the ramen, both were delicious.
The food is phenomenal. Great sushi. The assorted pickled food are definitely worth a try. The ramen is fantastic. Tender pork, authentic feeling fish paste coins. Tasty broth. Our server was friendly and attentive. Served very quickly. We live out of state and will definitely return in the future.
Masu in NE is my favorite for so many reasons. Their sushi is the best in the Twin Cities! We love the head chef, we love the ambience and we love the food and drinks. If you’re looking for a great date night or fun night out, with amazing food, go to Masu!
This is one of the best sushi/Japanese restaurants I have been to. Loved this place. Very Nice atmosphere, staff was very friendly and great service. The Sushi and rolls were great. It not only tasted great, but the presentation was pretty good. We sat at the bar and I could see them making it. Very highly recommended and I will definitely be back when I'm in this area again.
Hopefully it's temporary but the menu is half the size of what it was in the past, and most of the sushi was not available, whether it was listed on the regular menu or the specials menu. The buns and ramen are great, but there's far better sushi in town at the moment.
We’ve gone here every year for our anniversary for the last five years. This year we took advantage of their new event space to house our rehearsal dinner for our wedding. It was perfect. The food was amazing. The staff was responsive and timely. We had such a great time planning our event there and our guests were ecstatic. We are still getting compliments from our night there. I look forward to spending all of anniversaries and many random date nights at the Masu in NE. It’s a staple in our life and our memories. If you have a chance to rent their event room— we highly encourage you to do so! You’ll be well taken care of and the food will not disappoint. 🤤🤤🤤🥰🥳
Sat at the sushi bar and had a pretty good experience. The fish quality of the sushi was fairly good, and presentation was excellent. The layout is pretty open, so it felt light and welcoming. Staff was generally upbeat and friendly. I really enjoy when sushi chefs chat with me, however they were too busy talking to repeat customers. That was really the only thing about the experience that bummed me out and didn't make me feel welcome/comfortable. Will try again!
As always, excellent service and delicious food! Hits the spot every time!
Good food - not cheap prices and the quality is much better than average. If you have not tried it you should.
Awesome sushi and great small plates! Kudos to the craftsmanship.
Great sushi chefs, nice staff, excellent quality food every visit!
Went here for the first time (March 19th)
Made a reservation for 3:30 pm
Great restaurant and yummy food! I wish I remembered my hostesses’ name but she was super nice and friendly!
Remember first impressions ARE everything!
I hope they bring the udon noodles back to the menu I was a bit bummed they didn’t have them to order when they said online it was available, I ordered the chicken teriyaki rice bowl, a steamed pork belly bun and blue hue sake. All and all I had a great experience at this restaurant!
This is a favorite go to for my family because of great food and good service. Last night wires got crossed on the sushi line and we had to wait for a while to get our to-go order. In true Masu form they made everything right, we had great service while we waited with tons of communication and rock solid Bar staff helping. Still one of my favorite places in town because it is consistently excellent! Go there. Chill. Enjoy.
Update: Just placed a large order for my son’s birthday dinner. Still killin’ it! Go here! Support local. Great employees working hard in difficult times.
At Masu it's fun to order small dishes, slowly, and really enjoy their food. You can't go wrong with any of their sushi. On my latest visit they had the absolute best East Coast oysters. A fantastic meal, every time, and one of my favorite places to eat.
We have been to Masu numerous times pre-COVID and were excited about a night out as the pandemic restrictions are lifting. Sadly we were very disappointed by our service with a server who literally seemed bothered by the disruption of her evening of having to actually serve customers.
No customary pleasantries (like “hello”) or anything a customer could reasonably expect under the category of “customer service”. Without going into all the sad details, suffice it to say the service was so bad that we contemplated leaving after we were finally able to place our order but really wanted to stay for the food. And we’re glad we did since that is what we came for in the first place and it was excellent as always which is why the rating wasn’t a 1 ⭐️ due to the service.
But the dining out experience is about more than the food alone. It is about the ambiance and service as well. Unfortunately, if this is the level of service Masu has fallen to, no matter how good the food and ambience is, we’ll spend our dining out dollars elsewhere.
I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to try Masu. The Sushi is very average. Service is good. Atmosphere is nice. Some food took a very long time to be served - two of us had long finished our meals when the last plate was brought out. I don't mind food being served when it is ready, just not the 30 minute wait between dishes. It's also on the pricier side considering what you get.
One of the Sushi places I’ve been to :)
Service and food
Thank you Masu Sushi
The food is pretty good, the staff is pretty nice, but it's a bit pricey. They're sushi is fresh but I wish they had a bit more of a selection. We take our three year old daughter here and they're great with her and have fantastic selections on the kids menu. Their ramen is pretty good and is one of the main reasons we go.
Masu sushi is one of my favorite date night places in the city. I have never had a bad meal here. Their cocktail menu is wonderful, I'm a big fan of the big man Japan (ginseng/ginger infused whisky with a can of Sapporo), their fish is sustainably harvested, and they have a vegan/vegetarian menu.
If you have friends that don't like sushi, the menu has a good variety of Japanese cuisine, try the steam buns or their tempura.
Great food, just like the MOA location. Our waitress was incredible, I didn't have a pair of chopsticks when our food came so she got me a new pair super quickly and gave us a bowl of free ice cream to make up for it. (Which was equally as amazing.)
Great atmosphere, amazing staff, clean and lively environment. Thank you so much!
Edit : Our server's name is Maggie P, she was amazing!!
The food was great! I had been on the search for a great restaurant that offered Ramen during COVID-19. They followed safety procedures very well, and our table was away from everyone so we felt safe to eat. The food was wonderful and the staff was efficient while meeting all of our needs. I will DEFINITELY be back.
The Philly rolls are ok, noting special. The customer service is really good though.
My husband and I used to come here all the time when we lived in MN. The happy hour prices were a good deal and their sushi is delicious. We normally always sit at the sushi bar. There used to be an older gentleman that worked there, he was funny, charming and gave us wonderful service. We ordered six rolls that visit and he was astonished that we finished it so quickly. He made us some of his own specialty rolls for us to try because he saw how much we loved sushi. At the end of our meal, he gave us dessert. It was a fried green tea ball with some sort of sweet bean in the middle. I've never had anything like it before and I can't ever get it again. It's not on the menu and I'm sure it was his own specialty. I'm lucky that he was kind enough to share it with us.
Sometimes the happy hour can get crowded so it's best to come early. Besides the sushi bar, there are several other bar tables.
The pictures on the walls are beautifully taken of japanese women. The decor is cool, it has a trendy atmosphere.
I've never had problems with service at the sushi bar. We sat in the main eating area one time and the service was quite slow.
I wish there was more of a variety in their happy hour menu. It's been the same things for along time.
Trendy, good, modern sushi in a hip atmosphere. The menu should have everyone's favorite Japanese food and the drink menu is loaded with Japanese sake and beer alongside the normal fare and a few fun cocktails. The staff is great and even the restroom is fun.
AMAZING ramen and pork buns!! Sushi not so great. Went a week ago and the rice was definitely old and unseasoned and the fish only OK. Mentioned it and the waitress implied they'd comp an appetizer but put it on our bill anyway.
Been coming here for years and loving the ramen but will definitely skip the sushi next time!
Back again tonight 4/19.
Always worth the drive down.
Great happy hour still. The pork ramen one of the best in town. Their sake salmon is the best in town.
Always fun when the head sushi chief is working. Sorry to not remember his name but he somehow always knows who you are.
Selection has really dwindled here post covid, allegedly due to a switch towards sustainably, but somehow they didn't even have Hamachi (which is mainly farm raised). Everything was pretty good, definitely worth a trip for a masu roll, but overall there's better japanese restaurants in town. Try Kyatchi or Origami instead.
Came here a couple of times to give it the benefit of the doubt.
The first time I went was with a group of friends and we had a below pleasurable experience. The waitress who served us wasn't very friendly, it took a really long while to get our food despite the emptiness of the bar and restaurant, and the food was adequate, but nothing more.
After coming here again we found ourselves experiencing a lesser quality of service. We had the same waitress with the same unfriendly attitude and found ourselves having to wait an hour to be seated. We were then seated about a few minutes before the kitchen closes and had to order from the happy hour menu. We all ordered, and you know what? We still found ourselves waiting a prolonged period of time. I can understand being busy and it slowing down the service, but the waitress didn't even take our order until 20 minutes after we closed and stacked our menus.
By the time we got our food we were one of the last ones in the restaurants. I was disappointed because the previous reviewers gave this such high reviews. We went to this restaurant despite it being pricier than other sushi and noodle places around the area because we thought it would be fantastic. We instead found ourselves getting average food with less than average service.
Masu. One of my favorites. Really good sushi with amazing ramen. Really fun place to go with friends. Side dished are great and reasonable price wise. Although, it can get expensive. This place is great for special occasions. Drinks are good. The big man japan is a steal. I highly recommend.
It's Masu, but done so well. The bartenders here are great, and fully willing to work with you on drinks. Ramen was great, sushi was good. Okonomiyaki Tots are absolutely huge but so tasty. More than a meal in their own right.
The food here was good and wait staff was nice. But the speed at which we got our orders was so extremely slow. I received my order in 20 minutes and my guest's took 45 minutes for a dish that seems much easier to make. The restaurant was hardly busy as many tables were open too, and it wasn't during any rush hour. Also, despite it being not very busy, the restaurant itself is very loud due to the way it's laid out. There's no way I would've been able to hear my guest if it was busier.
By far one of my favorite spots in the twin cities. I know they have other locations that I need to try.
The wait staff is wonderful. I had the mushroom steam buns and the veggie power roll and both were really good. My husband and I love this place.
Great food, decent service. Waitress was nice other than tasting a portion of the toasted rice that's in the tea after she set it in front of me. ... i have to give her credit for even bringing out a sample of the tea after I inquired upon its delicious toasted rice flavor... which was very nice for her to go out of her way to do that! Did you know there's toasted rice & pop corn in their tea? Delish! Perfect appetizer b4 popcorn and a movie!
This is the best sushi I have had in the metro area. The prices aren’t bad but do reflect the high quality of the sushi. All food was delicious and presented beautifully. Great atmosphere, not too loud. Great place to catch up with friends
Amazing sushi and the ramen was so good! We ordered the chef's choice sampler and had delicious options. The sake flight was a great way to try some new sushi. Can't wait to go back and try some more rolls!
Really tasty ramen, good service!
Came for dinner by myself. A treat yourself kind of night. The staff was so wonderful. My server was the sweetest. The food was also amazing! If your looking for an appetizer with a twist you have to get the tots!! Been here plenty, but my experience tonight was by far the best I've ever had at any establishment.
Phenomenal sushi and excellent service. Very good Kim chi ramen and enough small plates and fun bites (uzura quail egg 4ever) to keep the diner guessing for ages. We've been there 20+ times and every single visit is an adventure in deliciousness and vibe.
Huge portions of Sashimi. Good quality sushi. They gave us free shots of sake on my birthday! Ambiance is acceptable, but it's a very busy spot and a tad loud on weekend nights.
First off, the food was amazing! Our sushi and random beef thing we got was sooo good! This is coming from a San Francisco resident who has fresh fish at his disposal (I know... kind of a big deal..) We had the pleasure of having Lindsey as our server. I can’t remember the last time we’ve had a more thoughtful, kind, genuine soul take care of us. The food was good, Lindsey made the experience :) Easiest recommendation.
Amazing food and service! Was able to get a table next to the bar and the chef was a beautiful artist! Really fun watching the rolls being rolled and all of the staff were super caring and helpful! The state fair rolls are absolutely amazing
Fantastic experience every time we are here. Great food and great staff.
Went for a birthday dinner and everything was great.
The service and food were flawless. The drinks and food were also REASONABLY priced. I really liked the menu, and was even able to order a few things, with guidance from our lovely server, that weren't on the menu. I tried quite a few drinks/eats, and it was all perfect. So, go with your instinct/ preferences here, and listen to your server.
Our server yesterday was Lyndsey and she was beyond perfect--attentive, polite, helpful, cute (okay, being 'cute' is irrelevant, but she was), sweet, and patient. Ask for her if you can. Some of the best service I've ever had in minneapolis. Thanks, guys/Lyndsey.
They have a great selection, a good bar and great staff. I've been here too many times to count over the years and it's always good, they quickly acknowledge and fix any mistakes, and aren't insanely expensive.
Comfortable enough for happy hour, fancy enough for a date. Check out the pachinko machines while you're there (fully playable).
I've been here 3 times and while the food's never been bad, it's also never been great. Last time I was there with a friend we decided to do the omakase for $20/person. Our waitress convinced us that the $30/person option was a much better value, and was the way to go if we wanted a "feast". The entire platter consisted of 2 hand rolls, about 12 pieces sashimi and a tuna appetizer, which we could have purchased for well under $60. Quality of the food is good, though.
Loved the tempura dog with curry tots with Happy Hour beer specials in the Nomu Roonm before going to First Avenue tonight! The food is so good & the service from the front room to the back room is so friendly & phenomenal! Really worth stopping by - so good!
Good Japanese food focused on Noodle, Robata (Japanese BBQ), and sushi. Menu is well thought out with options for everyone. Sushi is good, though the quality is inconsistent. The Veggie Power roll is a great options for those who want to each sushi, but to not like fish.
We had a wonderful meal at Masu! It was both delicious and fun! Harley was our server and he was so helpful at suggesting vegetarian items that were absolutely delicious! We plan to come back soon! Highly recommend!
The food and drinks are consistently good. On this particular visit, we ordered a type of sake that wasn't available. The person in charge of sake picked out a different sake for us personally and gave us a great deal on it. Their happy hour is a great deal as well.
So amazing! Spicy Tonkatsu Curry Ramen...out of this world!
Great sushi! Favorite in town! It's not on the menu but yea they will still make you a Philly roll. Plus "Big Man Japan" is a great value. Gummy bear martinis for ladies.
Went for a birthday dinner, came with free dessert! Very nice atmosphere, nice pared down menu makes choosing easy.
Definitely the most authentic sushi I've ever had!
Fresh and creative sushi. From the servers, bartenders and of course the Chef's you will not find a better service and Sushi. The veggie power roll is a fantastic way to start. The Shishimi is so fresh and artistically presented. I have tried the rest and Masu is the best!
I am not a fan of Sushi usually but what I got was decent. I think the portion size and price were probably what made it not so great. The service was fantastic though. Maybe someone who didn't go in starving, broke and actually liked sushi would love it.
It's a pretty decent spot for ramen and sushi. The sake selection isn't the greatest, but the rest of the bar is pretty good. It can be a little noisy at times, but it's good enough where I'll go every few months.
My favorite sushi restaurant in Minneapolis! (was tied with Fuji-ya, which is now closed). The fish is quality, and the chefs are excellent. Leave your ordering to their recommendations for creative and fresh specials!
Masu produces some of the best sushi I have had in Minneapolis. Their sushi chefs will make you a fantastic plate; I love the Masu roll and steamed edamame. Sushi specials after certain hours, see their website for details but currently Mon-Sat at 10pm and Sun at 9pm.
This is not a review about sushi. This is a review about ramen. The tonkatsu curry ramen warms my belly and soul. It is the perfect remedy for a cold winter night where you can’t stand to be outside for more than five minutes. Thankfully, Masu is a five minute walk from my house. The service is always excellent. The drinks are unique and tasty. If you sit at the bar, you can watch the chefs make sushi. Even though this is not a review about sushi, it sure is fun to watch it be made. Go to masu. Get the ramen. Watch the sushi.
Super cool atmosphere, delicious ramen and sushi, and I usually always get nice waitstaff. Too bad I didnt catch the name of the last waitress I had there, she was insanely insanely friendly and helpful with helping me and my boyfriend pick sushi rolls to try. We go there for date night all the time, one of my favorite places in the city
The food is great, but when my husband called to order take out they put him on hold and then came back to tell him they were unable to today. If you offer take out you offer take out all the time not when it is only convenient for you. Im sick, and I didn't want to infect the whole place. Regardless if I sit at a table or take it to go I am still a paying customer. The restaurant business is consumer based. I doubt we will return.
Super good food. Great drinks.
This place pretty much ruined other Asian ramen joints for me.
The kimchi/beef noodle bowl is the bomb!
The beet gimlet is delicious.
Masu has been one of my favorite restaurants for a long time. I recently stopped in to try and do some covid dining and had to dip, place was too crowded! Glad they are doing ok (I hope?) but as far as pandemic dining goes I think they are kind of pretending it isn't a thing...
Great food. Crappy customer service from the girl with the purple hair and nose ring. The manager came out and apologized. The girl came back out to keep serving us and made it known that they spoke to her instead of just giving a simple apology even if it was fake. The girl was so upset and rolled her eyes at me and walked away as I was speaking. I was so upset at that point that I went to pay the manager instead of her. He insisted on making it right and discounting our food but I explained I'm not looking for free food. That's what I work for. I rather pay. Long story short the food was so so good and so was the manager and the rest of the staff so I gave it 4 starts. If it weren't for that ONE girl I would've gave it 5 stars! I would definitely come back but just ask for a different waitress.
Sushi and sashimi were great and the bar service was good as well. Moderately diverse menu and seemed like sushi was their thing. They had a few creative drinks with liquor, saki, etc. but it didn't look like a full bar.
Wonderful modern take on Japanese cuisine. The sake flights are highly recommended.
Consistently delicious sushi at a relatively affordable price. Try the Masu roll if you're looking for something with a little bit of Minnesota and local flavor, and make sure to not miss the mochi afterwards as it is amazing. The only downside is the service, it can be pretty weak and they don't seem to really believe in air conditioning in the summer.
Our favorite sushi place in town (since losing the Origami downtown location). Highly recommend the Nordeast roll if you want sushi. The restaurant is on Open Table, and can typically get a table most nights if you plan just a little ahead.
If you’re not feeling sushi, they have fantastic ramen - the pork curry is my favorite and keeps us coming back for more.
Nice tap list and lots of options for saki.
Delish! My Minneapolis go-to for sushi!
We came here because the ratings seemed okay - and a few websites had said this is one of the better places for sushi in Minneapolis so we decided to give it a try.
We didn't wait for a dining table and sat at the bar instead. ambience and atmosphere for this place seems okay. we ordered the tuna tartar and their firecracker roll along with a bowl of pork belly ramen noodles.
the tuna tartar came relatively quickly - however although seared, the tuna was quite dry, and it was like 5 slivers for 10 dollars US - not worth it in my opinion. and it's not that i don't mind paying for it (coz i've spent $$ at japanese restaurants before) but in this case I ddin't think it was worth the 10 dollars.
The firecracker roll was good - it was a mix of sashimi and dynamite roll with a spicy sauce. it's 18 bucks for the roll... but compared to a relatively similar price to a specialty roll at a restaurant like Miku or even Mi-Ne in Toronto it's def. not quite there.
The pork belly... delicious!! probably the highlight of the evening. the belly just melts in your mouth, and it was amazing. However, their noodles on the other hand... was horrible. they clumped together and the texture just isn't the same as something one would serve at a ramen restaurant. So unfortunately I coudl'tn give a better rating on this bowl of noodles either. the broth was also not very good, just salty, and that's about it.
On top of that, after the tuna tartar came about 10 mins of sitting in and ordering, the other two items did not come until over 45 mins later. it was a little ridiculous with the time and our waitress was very nice about and took off the tartar from our bill and apologized for the time delay.
Anyway, it was an interesting experience. it wasn't the best, but it definitely was not that great either. But if you have a craving for sushi in the area, it could be a place to consider, just don't expect it to be super amazing.
Very tasty food. Friendly staff. Fast service. Nice atmosphere. Recommend this place. Will come back next time I'm in Minneapolis.
First time trying uni and amaebi and loved it! Thanks for the wonderful birthday experience!
Service can be a little slow as they get busy but servers are still attentive for things like water and checks, atmosphere is fun if a little noisy at times. The robata is a fairly unique selection on the menu and they have lots of creative sushi and cocktails but it's really all about the ramen for me. Masu's pork belly and tonkatsu ramens are 2 of the best bowls I've had in the cities.
Japanese food at Minneapolis is a rarity to start with, so with limited local selections, Masu is a decent option providing a nice variety of Japanese fare. It can be a little noisy at times and parking may be tough, but generally a decently good location for a Friday night hangout. Portions are not the biggest, and prices are not the cheapest, but it is typical for its location.
Wow! What a wonderful surprise! Great sushi and wonderful staff😁 …
Excellent service, even on a busy night, and the wait staff was very friendly. We had an appetizer of the duck gyōza - delicious - followed by omakase and a poké roll. The rolls were simple, fresh, and delicious. The fish was surprisingly fresh and high quality! Mochi ice cream for desert was a great treat. Would highly recommend!
I can't believe I've walked and driven by here for years and never stopped! The kampachi nigiri was very fresh and tender, and the robata appetizers (esp. the deckle rib eye and scallops) were delicious. Happy hour is definitely a great time to come here - they have a large menu of meat, seafood and veggie small plates to choose from. Great service in a really cool, hip spot in Nordeast. Definitely will be back here - wish I hadn't waited so long!
I've tried a lot of sushi in the twin cities, and Masu ranks in my top 3. Their late night food deals are hard to beat, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the drinks.
Great food, mosu roll is epic
Best food & atmosphere in the entire state. This place is my vibe. 6 out of 5 possible stars.
Anything worth it won't be cheap, you get what you pay for.
It was a decent dish. But I’m also slightly biased. Jus got back from Tokyo and my dish was less than stellar. Ofc I’m comparing it to the great ramen bowls of japan. I have had ramen cravings that this place satisfied and this is a decent win.
One of my favorites. I do pork belly ramen almost every time. I'm recognized by the staff. Has a hip, chic ambience. Not the place to go if you're tight with your wallet.
The best Japanese food I've had in the area. I had a shashimi sampler, and the fish was absolutely perfectly chilled, sliced, presented, and served. I also had a bowl of pork belly ramen. Delicious, to say the least. The ramen is served fresh and hot, and in my case, does not come spicy. They instead also serve the ramen with a small spice dish with spices in it to make it spicy if you'd like. I do like, and so I added it. It does kick if you are so inclined. Lastly, I had my meal with some cherry blossom sake. Clean, pure flavored sake. crisp and without any bite, but still warms the belly. Highly, highly recommended.
I come here a lot, it's a great place for laid back dining on the higher end. The menu has a lot of variety and the drinks are really fun. I'm not a huge fan of the sushi here though.
I highly recommend this place. It's a nice Fusion of traditional sushi plus other Asian Styles. I had the ramen and it was particularly delicious. Great food, great atmosphere and solid service.
Went there for late night happy hour. I have to say I had the best California roll ever there. The miso soup was delightful, and the gummy sour was good. However, I would probably just get a beer next time.
The vegetable roll was AMAZING! Also had a California roll with Salmon added on top and it was good but nothing to write home about. The decor is cute and they have pachinko machines along the back wall, although none were working when I was there.
Best sushi I have had in Minneapolis. We had two rolls and nigiri, all amazing. The fish was fresh, delicious and melt-in-your-mouth perfection. One person got the tonkatsu with the spicy broth. He loved it! It had enough zip to make him happy and came with a helping of chili pepper on the side to brighten his day further. We got the Dynamite and Nordeast rolls, both were spectacular.
Although we came during happy hour and they were very busy, service was excellent and everyone there was extremely friendly. The atmosphere was relaxed classy and fun with the NE Minneapolis vibe.
Their commitment to sustainability really impressed me. I love that they partner with the Monterey Bay Aquarium program.
10/10!! I would go back again just to see Angela (I think this was her name!)—she was absolutely delightful and made our night. She recommended the curry ramen which is LIFE. CHANGING. It truly did bring a tear to my eye (after I added the optional spice). I love this place and the late night special are also great, definitely give it a try. Also, once again, Angela frickin rocks.
Terrific sushi, very fresh and light. Clearly the staff here is well trained and top notch. Good drink selection, fun cocktails, and definitely get the pork belly steamed buns. Good lord.
Tonkatsu Curry Ramen forever. Also, the raw quail eggs are great (uzura in the sushi/sashimi section). Cocktails are hit or miss. The Godzillarita was awesome, but the shiso cocktail didn't taste like shiso at all. Overall highly recommend for date night and groups.
Small selection of sushi, a long wait time, portions are smaller than usual, and a bit expensive for what you get, but maybe that is because they are next to downtown Minneapolis. However, if you want a nice sushi dinner you might want to find a different place.
Great staff and atmosphere. Full menu with great options, just a warning though, the sushi "rolls" are very small and thin for the price, but tasted fresh and yummy.
Quality sashimi, great atmosphere. We eat here regularly. Great alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. Prices won't break the bank. We prefer this location over the mall of America location. Love this place.
Amazing place. The Sushi Chefs are top notch. If you are not sure what you want or do not understand the menu ask for suggestions. Everything is so fresh and the sauces are amazing. Gozalida was a great drink
Service is always perfect. Nothing in the menu ever disappoints (of course, to taste, some sushi is delicious and some not so much) and there's a nice wide variety of drinks/cocktails. Not cheap, but you are paying for what you're getting.
Went for an early dinner and happened to hit happy hour. We were planning to get California rolls and Pork Belly Ramen, and both were on the happy hour menu, so lucky for us. We also ordered agedashi tofu. $27 for the three items. Happy with our experience.
Will come back next time to try sashimi and tempura!
I almost always get the Curry Tonkatsu Ramen and a side of their pickles. They always have some of the most interesting pickles. Their robata is good, too, although pricey. Fish is always fresh - if you get a chance, sit at the bar - it's fun to watch. Good atmosphere, very laid back and fun.
Wonderful food, wonderful environment, great staff.
This place is definitely a once a week dining place!
I love their spring rolls, oysters, ramen and sushi!
Food is always fresh! Service is always awesome!
First of all, there is NO good sushi in the area. Let's start there. Minnesota is far from an ocean, is notorious for their affinity for bland food, and endures an uphill battle when it comes to mastering seafood.
That said, Masu has decent sushi, but its other options are better (e.g. noodles, steamed buns).
Their menu is slightly spendy, and is magnified by its location in otherwise affordable Northeast. It's a great spot for date night and is a great stop for a group where not everyone enjoys sushi.
Maybe the best miso soup I ever had!
I love this place and dine here on the regular, unfortunately they just got rid of happy hour all together:( Cinder Lou is an exceptional employee that goes above and beyond. Their salmon is the best of the best and their curry ramen is exceptional.
Phenomenal sushi that is made fresh and ready to devour. I love the decor of the Restaurant. You get an instantaneous feel that you are in Japan once you walk into the room.
Have been going here for many years. Excellent food all around, but their yakisoba noodles are remarkable. If I had a last meal to chose, it would probably be that dish.
Asan, Jennifer and the team always provide a wonderful experience. I'm not vegan, but the Veggie Power! roll is ca't miss. A super mix of flavor and texture that will make you rethink your definition of what sushi can be. Recommend sitting at the bar, ordering some sake, bacon-wrapped quail eggs, and asking for something off the menu, like Kampachi Kama. You won't be disappointed. Domo.
I was skeptical with another sushi chain in the city. But customer service was amazing and the chef even came out to talk to us. Highly recommend the quail egg shooter.
Casual place, nice people, awesome saki selection.
Very, very tasty. WIsh there prices were a little bit more reasonable though. Guess in Minneapolis you can expect to spend no less than $20 on a sushi dining experience which is fine, just wish it was less $$ so I could eat there more!
First time back at a restaurant since covid and felt so safe and the food was great! We had our server Lizzie and they were over the top amazing to us and we can’t recommend them enough!
I have been here too many times to count. Don't need a menu. Here's my order of choice that I share with my fiance.
Apps
Pork Sticky Buns
Fried Spring Rolls
Entree
2 Uzura (must have, make it fun)
Firecraker Roll
Another Roll (Something different)
Sashimi Maguro
Other things that are good here that I have tried. I imagine everything is good here because I have liked everything.
The ramen bowl, edemame, the salmon sashimi, the cold spring rolls, when they have oysters they are good (they don't always have them).
The food was amazing and the service was excellent. Sweet shrimp
Rather bland, but quick solid service. You arent going here because of the variety of the sushi, but because someone in your group wants noodles/rice instead of sushi
They had very good cooked food but the sushi was a little dry it may have been old. The staff was very nice. I would go again.
Always great service and tasty food!
Food and drinks are great, staff is friendly and professional. Service is fast and the atmosphere is great for an evening out!
Amazing ramen, I will be going back again to have the sushi. Waitstaff was friendly and efficient.
The food is fantastic and so well- made. The staff are awesome and it's apparent that they like their work and each other. I just went for my birthday, and got some lovely extra special treatment. This place is a keeper!
Food was straight gas, service was fantastic and atmosphere was good. Only issue is serving sizes could be bigger.
Recommend Masu. Food is always great. Service? Last visit was a miss. We let the server know we were ready and wanted to order right away. That didn't happen. Beverages ran empty, and utensils were had to be requested via additional wait staff.
I love the sushi here and the ambience the art and photos and Japanese video games. Watching them prep the food. Excellent tempura, light batter. A work of art. Shoestring sweet potatoes and onions, and huge shrimp.
Amazing veggie sushi, best sake I've had yet, and most importantly the best bartender in the world, Erin, to give amazing service promptly and with the cutest smile you've ever seen! Love masu!
Amazing food and fantastic experience. Evie did phenomenal as our waitress and was super knowledgeable about what works well for Sake pairing. Great selection of fusion. So good!
Great Japanese food! Also close to U of M dorms.
Loved the atmosphere, decor and energy of Masu. Our server was exceptionally pleasant and provided great service. The food was outstanding. Can't wait for the next time!
We had a wonderful dining experience at the Masu location in N.E. Mpls last night for Father's Day. We tried a wide variety of things on the menu and each one impressed. The Masu, Nordeast roll and the Tuna Spring Roll were highlights. Our two-year-old loved the duck gzoya and pork belly buns (and so did we).
Fun place with well made and very fresh sushi. Nice to go and enjoy sushi freshly made and reasonably priced. 3 of us "stuffed" for $120, including dessert.
Glad to see a sushi place in NE. Quality was great, sushi was amazing. Service was pretty slow. Might have been because they were crazy busy though. I'll give them another chance.
Amazing food, super fun atmosphere, and the staff is top notch. Love that we have a place with great Japanese food and a really good sake selection!
I probably go to Masu at least once a month. Their Pork Belly Ramen is to die for! It's so good! The service is always great and their food is fantastic as well. 5/5 with rice
Dependable spot for sushi and other ramen. Covid restrictions have limited the menu somewhat, but we still found plenty to choose from.
The sushi chef took extra time to explain the meaning of "masu" to a first time guest who really enjoyed their first experience of Japanese food and sushi! The delicious cuisine is never a disappointment.
Definitely the best place for sushi or ramen in Northeast (Domo is a no-no). Hit up their late night happy hour after 10pm. One of the best late night happy hours in the neighborhood for my money.
Exceptionally long wait, but our waitress was very attentive and made up for it with a free plate of edamame. Fantastic food and some of the better pork belly I've had in a while.
I recommend the Korean short ribs, Vegetable Tempura, Tonkatsu Curry Ramen and they've added a delicious Lychee Lemontini to the drink menu. Masu is one of our favorite restaurants in the Twin Cities.
Yum! We had a wonderful experience here. Sushi was delicious, service was excellent. Great cocktails too. Will for sure be back.
Service is great and the people are nice. We showed up when there was construction but it was easy to find. They have unique sushi dishes and the food was good.
Solid menu for meat eaters or vegans. The meal had me lost in bliss as layers of flavor washed over me. I'd like to say im exaggerating but my wife thought I had an orgasm.
Have been here for multiple occasions, ranging from prom to anniversaries and birthdays! I love the food, it is relatively authentic and the prices are a little pricier, but it is worth it for the mood, space and food that you are getting. I love coming here for special events.
Excellent sushi with wide sake menu. Try the shrimp tempura steamed buns; they're the best thing I've eaten in years!
Open late on weeknights, a rarity in the midwest. Coming from NYC, sometimes having dinner before 10pm just doesn't feel right and you want something a little more savory than Perkins.
Nice vibe and decent late night menu. According to my friend, they put up the wrong Japanese symbols for bathroom.
Daytime menu is a little underwhelming in flavor since I've had the privilege of living near a Mitsuwa, Minado, and east coast Japanese. But excellent for sushi in the midwest. Particularly enjoy the Scottish Salmon.
Nice place, restaraunt was clean and had good decor. Menu had alot of different item to choose from and lunch was good. Sushi Roll menu was very small but the fish was good.
A regular spot for my SO and me to get great sushi and atmosphere. One of my favorite dishes is the tater tot bowl! Check it out!
Our favorite place in Minneapolis, make sure to get the eggplant appetizer, the kiriagi(sp) is great, so is the sushi and ramen bowls. Say hi to Greg M when u r there he is the best. Have some saki too
Sushi is fine, over priced for what you get and I don't think anyone who works there really enjoys it. Kyoto, Mizu, and Kado are so much better.
The food was really good. I had the tempura, the kitsune udon, and the mochi. Sake flights are awesome and reasonably priced. The service was the only hit this place takes from me. It was okay service, but not great.
I’ve been here a couple times. The first time the sushi was great and the second, you could tell the fish wasn’t the freshest.
The food seems to always be better during the day. Both times I've gone at night the food was so so. The first time I went was during the day and i was so impressed and each time ive gone back since after 5 its not been as good. I would still recommend this place though.
Kind of pricey (over $50 for two people), but amazing sushi. The Dynamite roll, Masu roll, and Spicy Tuna were all delicious.
The staff was very friendly. The ramen was quite tasty. The price was reasonable and munny dolls were a lovely decoration.
Pretty pricey, but loved the themed restaurant and the servers were great. Though it was very slow at the time they didnt seem bored and confused like I've seen in other places. Everything tastes fresh and light just as it should.
Fantastic sushi. With a group we ordered 1 of each of the classic rolls and 2 of the special rolls. The firecracker roll was the favorite among the group.
Have been here a number of times. Food is good, consistent and the staff is helpful. Can take a bit to find a table but well-worth the wait and would recommend it and will certainly visit again.
Their sushi is amazing and it's the only Japanese tea I've ever had that wasn't steeped to long.
Amazing sushi and sake selection! The robata is perfectly prepared as well. Very friendly staff with a fun vibe. Busy on weekend nights!
For celiac readers: beware the sushi rice is NOT gluten free. I was informed that the rice contains vinegar that contains gluten.... the menu does not state this. Not sure why they'd do that, considering traditional sushi rice is made with naturally gf rice vinegar. Seems illogically against the grain of common sense, especially if you're a restaurant competing for gf business when your flagship food is supposed to be gf in the first place. Get the sashimi instead. GF tamari soy sauce is available upon request.
Great sushi and other Japanese small plates. A little pricey, host doesn't have the most (manners), but overall pretty good experience.
Ramen is always amazing. The service is always great. The dynamite rolls are my favorite.
The best sushi in Minneapolis. Delicious food and drinks. staff is also very helpful and nice.
Great place for late night happy hour. We had some great bar snacks and some very good pork buns. Next time I'm going to try the shrimp.
It was ok. Seemed a little pricey for my taste. I've had better sushi for a more reasonable price at most other places. Plus it took 1.5 hours to get our sushi. Which was odd. Overall it did'nt work.
Ok food, Ok prices, but good service = would'nt return.
Food is good but a little expensive for the taste
Nice establishment, with good ramen, and Yakitori. The only negative is the parking.
I liked this place very much. The sushi was excellent, the service was fast and professional, and the decor keeps you interested. I will definitely be going back.
Great menu, sushi is fantastic, cocktails are made well, and the service/staff is very good. Good happy hour too.
Service was good, happy hr was decent a little over priced for ramen. They charge $1 to make it extra spicy which I thought was a little strange. Overall the place was decent.
So good! It's the best ramen I've ever had. Great atmosphere and a friendly and attentive staff.
Steamed buns & firecracker roll are the best! Everything I've had at Masu has been delicious, kind staff, beautiful space.
Lots of people have recommended this place and it was great if not a little underwhelming. I think that was mostly because of the hype. Check it out if you want some easy Japanese in North East Mpls.
Excellent well prepared food, hip interior, knowledgable servers. Japanese whiskey and sake flights should not be overlooked.... let your server guide your choices.
Great happy hour deals. High quality food, attentive staff with personality set in a hip-historical neighborhood. I highly recommend giving Masu a try.
Super service! Delicious food and I enjoyed the scotch selection!
Great rice bowls, fairly limited menu for my gluten free & pescatarian friend but for everyone else their menu is absolutely dynamite.
Service, food and atmosphere are always inviting and top notch. This is my favorite sushi spot in the Twin Cities!
Pork Kara-age & plum wine were fantastic. 5 seasons roll was super delicious... & the locals are super cute 😍 …
I love the veggie yakisoba. Staff is always amazing. Food is very clean, yet flavorful and delicious! Highly recommend this place.
Best nigiri I've had in the cities! Gives Origami a run for its money!
The sushi was very good, and high quality. However, size of the rolls was a bit on the small size for what you pay.
I have been looking for good ramen in Minneapolis for a while now, and this place definitely best everywhere else out..will be going back to the mall of America again just so I can have the ramen here
Absolutely the best happy hour in the neighborhood. I go regularly. The food is excellent and they have a great drink selection.
The sushi and Robata item were very good but, the ramen that we had was overly salty and very fatty. We will go again but not be getting the ramen.
Good experience, tasty ramen and good sushi. It was delicious. We have zero complaints and will be back.
Excellent sushi selection and a great menu option is the chef's choice. It's an affordable option to try a wide variety of options.
It seems they got some power players to make a good name for the place but there's nothing here that has any more wow factor than any other sushi in the area.
This is one of my favorite spots! Staff is always amazing, food is always spot on. I've been going here for years and will continue to do so until I move.
Delicious food and wonderful service! Our food arrived in a timely manner. Our server, Angela, was very attentive, friendly, and flexible.
A decent Japanese style restaurant with relatively good tasting sushi (small and a bit overpriced), robata skewers are also flavorful and inspired by traditional Japanese robata, the pork belly ramen is one of my favorites and they have a very fun sparkling yuzu sake by Banzai Bunny that is really great and hard to find anywhere else.
Fun atmosphere and great food. Fun for a date or night out with friends. Be prepared to spend some money because you'll want to try everything.
Shout out to the server Lina. She was wonderful. Sad I left my left.overs on the table tho! Hope someone ate them
Great ramen, excellent sushi and fun robata - tasty little tasting plates. Good cocktails too! Get your Suntory on here!
My favorite thing about this place is that they're open between lunch and dinner when everyone else is closed. Lowkey during this time but the food is still on point even if its slower. My favorite in between lunch spot
Love it. I have so many favorites on the menu. It's great for a date or with the kids. I'd even go solo, although I haven't.
Super amazing food and wonderful staff!! Definitely try the plum lemon tea! Best thing I've had in a long time!
One of my favorite sushi places! Fun atmosphere, great food and reasonable prices!
The food is delicious. The happy hour is great. There is a generally good vibe, and I could eat the robata perpetually.
Good food and fun ambience. Get there before 6 or late to take advantage of the happy hour specials, which include house drinks and lots of food, including robata, sushi, and ramen!
A home run every time. And I go a lot. They make you feel like family and feed you like family too!
Exceptional service and even better food 🍣 !
Never had a bad meal here and the pork belly ramen has my vote for best bowl of ramen in Minneapolis.
top-shelf ramen, sushi and more.. exquisite but you pay for what you get, which includes beaming staff and upscale, hip atmosphere. Killer!
Excellent food, well prepared, and delicious! Staff were helpful and quick. I will definitely be frequenting Masu!
Good quality Japanese food in a fun environment. I wish parking was better but it's in that part of NE so what are you gonna do.
One of the best eateries in Mpls. Their sushi & robata are excellent, along with their ramen. Great Happy Hour, as well!
Pretty good I was kinda hoping that the menus had more sushi options but everything tasted good it's sake is overpriced...
Great service and great sushi! Very helpful to ensure no allergens included in chosen rolls (shellfish allergy).
Went here for the ramen and it was excellent! Their sushi is great too!
A pleasure as always. Erin the bartender is a true delight. Honestly though everyone is great. Always an excellent experience.
Great service, good food.
+5: great food. I recommend the Omakase. -1: A server put their phone number in my date's purse.
Absolutely delicious sushi. Great service, nice atmosphere. I wish I lived closer
It was ok. Nothing was bad...I just think Minneapolis has better options. I won’t go back, nothing impressed me and I’m easily amused:)
Amazing food! The Omakase is perfect for two. The place is clean and modern, with nice touches of character.
Everything was delicious, Gyoza, Pork Buns, Edamame, Crunchy Salmon Roll, and Nordeast Roll.
Consistent and reliable source of good dinner and drinks. Adds robata and ramen to boost the sushi menu.
Godzilita is a hit.
Great food! Great staff! My go to place when I wanna gorge on sushi and spend a ton of money!!!!!
Excellent sushi! And the staff were great. They were knowledgeable of the entire menu.
The vegetables and Udon were reasonably priced and tasty, but........unless you like room temperature, flacid tuna, I would skip the sushi.
Mmm. Probably the best sushi place in the twin cities. We love sitting at the bar and watching the sushi get made!
The sushi, sashimi and nigiri are just okay. I like their tofu appetizers. The service is great.
The sushi was pretty good but the service was slow
Outstanding sushi. Trust in your sushi chef and you’ll get some unique, creative and tasty offerings.
Excellent food, service, fare and ambiance. Absolutely recommend.
I can't find anywhere in the country that has yakisoba as good as this place. Hip environment, great service, and excellent sushi.
Nice location for a work lunch. We liked the decor and loved the food. Great service on a Friday lunch.
Good experience. The sushi was fresh, drinks were good, the pork buns were really fantastic.
The staff is always super friendly! The food has always been top tier and they're accommodating to big parties!
Favorite sushi in Minneapolis, a bit on the spendier side but it's worth it, especially for happy hour.
This place blew me away. Good sushi, inexpensive, and the yakisoba is maybe the best thing ever. Deadass..
Best sushi in Minneapolis, must try walu nigiri, non alcoholic quail egg shooter, and nordeast roll
Had dinner here last night. Delicious as always and wonderful service! I'm always happy when I come here.
Great place to hangout. The food is amazing and the drinks are awesome.... We should have a Masu sushi & robata in Texas.
The food was absolutely delicious and the music was too (big glass animals fan).
Always friendly staff and the food is always the best. Great atmosphere and great place to grab lunch with a friend.
Erin was a delight at a bartender. A-son is a master. I suggest the omakase. You will not be disappointed.
We tried a lot of the major items, omg.....so good. The skewers are so worth the trip, and the masu roll is amazing!
Sushi is delicious but the service was lacking for lunch. Wasn't that busy when we went. I might try it again.
Always great staff and an interesting menu.
What a treat. Masks being used by staff, nice distance between tables, and as always, fresh and flavorful. Like a tiny vacation.
Fantastic sushi, great atmosphere
It seems like a first date spot and what they charge supports this assumption.
Great service, good food. Loved their selections of non alcoholic beverages! Clean!
Happy hour is unreal, Mari is a fantastic server and lovely person.
Can't wait to go back
Japanese bar food. Great small plates. Wonderful Sushi
One of our go to restaurants. I usually get the ramen and a robata or 2 to share, but the sushi is good, too.
Solid sushi joint, good menu selection, wonderfully decadent steamed buns.
The TONKATSU CURRY ramen is by far the best ramen in the twin cities!
Love this place. Huge fan of the duck gyoza, the steamed buns, and the yakisoba. Great collection of beer and cocktails.
I absolutely love coming here for the sushi and quail egg shooters. Wonderfully friendly staff!
My favorite sushi spot.
Excellent food! Our waitress Lindsey was amazing. We will definitely go back.
Best sushi in the twin cities. Hands down. Also a really great atmosphere.
My favorite spot for sushi or ramen. The Double Precious cocktail is amazing!
Great menu and cocktails. Atmosphere is a little too hectic. Fun with a group.
The server was very helpful for first time customers. She provided great food and drink recommendations.
Bright, great location...the Japanese arcade games there are like no other, most eclectic games I’ve ever seen
Great lunch deals on sushi and robata - miso soup and a nice salad come with. Come around noon or earlier to beat the rush.
Sushi options were numerous, but the prices were higher than I am used to. I ended up getting ramen with sushi as an appetizer because of the prices.
Would recommend going during happy hour for best prices. Our server was a little unhelpful, but food was delicious.
Delicious ramen and sushi here! Great happy hour specials as well.
Food is amazing here but service is always slow, even when the place isn't busy. I prefer Fuji-Ya.
Delish food and drinks with a fun staff. Visited from out of state and had a great time in Minneapolis.
All the sushi was great but the veggie roll was outstanding. Plus, there are quail eggs.
Good late night happy hour. The steamed buns are awesome. Cocktails could be better.
Love this place. Amazing sushi and Sake. Awesome fusion atmosphere.
The food is so good OMG, and we feel really welcome very kind and attention from the waitress 5++++ stars
My favorite sushi place of all time! Can't stop thinking about their quail eggs and bacon.
Their pork-steamed-buns were legit! Also a great place to get a hearty bowl of ramen! 🍜 …
This is my brothers favorite restaurant in the TC and I join him as often as I can. Great bartenders and chefs.
If I could eat Masu for breakfast I would. Great tots. Eat the tots. You think I'm kidding but I don't joke Bout tots. Eat the tots.
Had a wonderful date with my girl and it was absolutely amazing good atmosphere and great service!
Excelent food, firework roll and miso soup was amazing! Fantastic service!
Some of the best sushi in town, and incredible drinks and hot Japanese fare.
Food was delicious. Alejandra was outstanding. Quail egg robata is eggcelent.
Great selection and small plate options. The salads are incredible and such a fun atmosphere.
One of the top two sushi joints in the city (next to Fuji ya). I personally prefer Masu.
One of my favorite Japanese joints. Great service, better menu.
One of my favorite restaurants for lunch! Great service always and delicious food!
Very good food! Squid was great! The ramen was spectacular!
Delicious food. Great service! My belly is so full and so happy :)
Ponzu quail egg shooters are great and I haven't seen the anywhere else.
Lots of menu options, good service, excellent drinks. Affordable for the most part.
Favorite place to get pork belly ramen! Can't find a better place to get Asian fusion!
One of my favorite places in the metro for sushi! Their yakisoba is AMAZING
Good ramen at decent prices, appetizers and sushi rolls are a bit on the expensive side compared to other local options.
Very good food, very good atmosphere, a little on the pricy side but worth it
