I was craving some soul food and decided to check out Mama Shelia’s for the first time. I did take out. I love how it’s a buffet line and you get to see then select what you want. Food is warm, fresh, and there is no wait to have the food cooked. The takeout is approx 7.59 or 7.99/lb. I got Mac and cheese, collards, fried chicken (4pieces), jerk chicken (1 piece), yams for $20. Me and my fiancé ate off of the plate together and were satisfied! I really loved the collards and fried chicken. It reminded of how my family in NC cooks soul food. I will return again hopefully during buffet hours

Oh my goodness this place is fabulous! I'm from MS so I know a thing or 2 about good soul food. I found myself away from home on Thanksgiving and everyone told me this is where I'd find the best food ....and they were so RIGHT. Lots of choices and seasoning was perfect on everything. They took me in and made me feel right at home. Great food and wonderful hospitality. Will definitely go back!!

Like stepping into a beautiful Black history museum with delicious af food prepared by your auntie who can really cook. This is what Mama Sheila’s House of Soul is like. The fact that they have koolaid is the perfect bonus. Sorry no pictures of the food, I came and ate two plates faster than I could snap photos. It was all incredible.

Took my mother-in-law cuz she was her birthday and for the first time I was a little surprised with the price still but the amount of food it was worth it and the environment it was simply beautiful it was nice relaxing I enjoyed it very very much where I would definitely definitely recommend it to people of all cultures looking for soul food

I love the food here! A soul food buffet is the thing dreams are made of. Everything has a very mild flavor which is nice because not everyone likes strong spices. I’m gluten intolerant and have eaten here twice with no issues. I just avoid the breaded items, Mac and cheese and cornbread. Everything is so good and I love that it’s family owned and operated. I highly recommend! (I did try the Mac and cheese and it was amazing!)

Went to Bloomington Minnesota about a week ago and decided to stop by and eat here. The food was delicious, by far the best soul food I've ever had. Everything I ate a absolutely amazing. The atmosphere was wonderful too. Very clean and with good music and the pictures of all famous African American celebrities around the restaurant. I recommend everyone to go try out the buffet.

Absolutely fantastic buffet!! Food was delicious and staff was pleasant. I dont live in Minnesota anymore, and there is nothing close to this in Seattle. I'll definitely be stopping again next time I'm home. Thanks for being awesome and hope business treats you well 😊

I’ve been here a few times and honestly it’s a hit or miss sometimes. If you want to experience all the food I suggest dining in rather than ordering to-go. It can be pricey since it’s about $7 a pound. Mama Sheila is there most days and if you have any issues she’ll handle it. Servers could be more friendly and inviting. Overall good soul food when you crave it.

Unfortunately, the Bears lost, but finding Mama Shelia's House of Soul for lunch after the game was a huge win! The establishment has dine in or carry out available. You are immediately greeted with soulful sounds of the best R&B/Soul has to offer. The walls are lined with pics of the biggest soul artist of our time, some beautiful hand painted pieces of Aretha Franklin & the legendary Prince! We dined in for a good meal before getting back on the road for a six hour drive to Il. When I tell you, the food was delicious it was DELICIOUS! It's a buffet set-up, All You Can Eat or Weigh & Pay. There was a good variety of soul food menu items available. Everything was hot & fresh, just seasoned to perfection . We enjoyed taste of: creamy, golden topped mac & cheese, palate pleasing greens w/turkey, cabbage, buttery corn-on-cob, yams, flavorful jerk spaghetti, red beans & rice (that were truly off the chain good) and a finger licking good smothered chicken wing. (For dessert chocolate cake to go! I cannot even tell you how moist & delicious this cake is! Even as I sit here & pig out on it as I write this review!!!!!) We also each ordered a catfish filet as our entree. They were prepared to order (not part of buffet price) and very much worth $10.95 ea. Delivered hot & fresh to our table; we were comped our glasses of red kool aid for the extended wait; which we appreciated. The food, the service & hospitality is just what you look for in local family owned businesses. We were asked several times during our meal if we were enjoying it, and if we needed anything additional. It was a complete pleasure to watch the owners young grands, move about the restaurant actually putting in service! Everyone --the gentleman that took our initial order at the register, the young man serving at the buffet, the woman w/dimples that ultimately took over at register Mama Shelia's husband & Mama Shelia Herself were phenomenal host! They make you feel right at home, like they appreciate your business. Mama Shelia took a moment to come to our table to greet us & chat. As well, her husband was quite welcoming; made sure we had everything we needed. We learned she is originally from Chicago & that alone would be enough for me to shout out & support her business. If you are in the Bloomington MN...You MUST visit Mama Sheila's House! The FOOD is PHENOMENAL! Portions are PLENTIFUL..I drove 30 minutes to get some SOUL FOOD. Trust me when I say from this here cook...Mama Shelia is the place to go for VegetablesGreens,Brussels Sprouts, Stringbeans, Mashed Potatoes Red Beans and Rice, Jerk Chicken Salmon Croquettes Fried Chicken wings and..wait for it..MACARONI and CHEESE! You can dine in out take out they also have a full service bar!! Go get you some!

They whole restaurant was a vibe 🎉🥳💯💪🏿. Let's start with the lil girl who was helping with hosting and filling drinks, she has me dying laughing. She asked if she could get us some water, u was like sure she said oh u have jerk chicken you definitely gonna need some water 🤣🤣🤣. She was so funny. The aunties who served the food , smiled, wonderful service, told some great stories, played the best music 🎵🎶. Reminded me at my auntie and GMA house back in the day. THIS A BLK OWNED BUSINESS 💯🎉🥳💪🏿💚🖤❤️ tht always deserves a celebration. They allowed 2 ppl at a time to get food, u could do the buffet line or get Take out orders. Ya I'm definitely going back💯✔️🔥💓. Mama Shelia's is honestly the best. The decor was lovely and the music was amazing. I been all over down south and have missed the love and soul that is put into authentic soul food you will find this same love, and soul put into Mama Shelia's soul food. As a vegetarian I love the fact that I was able to have more than five options. I have honestly never said this, but the red beans and rice is better than my mother's. When you live in a big city you want to have a restaurant that you can bring your friends and family to, that will leave them craving for more for me Mama Shelia's is that place. Definitely worth the drive and price.

Oh my wow is what I thought when I first walked in. You'd be surprised by how beautiful the inside is. It's very romantic and they play 90s RnB. Plates are made by servers. You just say what foods you want. They just opened a few months ago, but that doesn't really show. The design and decorations are so detailed. You can order food there and its a buffet. You can order out too and pay by the pound. The owner is pretty down to earth too. Spent a good minute chatting it up with my friend and I.

Nice looking place, interesting decor. This is a buffet. They charge extra for dessert. Beverage is included with the buffet price. The food was not to my liking, I suppose I have a different food esthetic. My family is from the mid Atlantic and South so I have a clear understanding of southern comfort food. Example- the mac and cheese was not up to my standards, while the fried chicken wings were on point. The service greater was very pleasant. The servers were attentive. Not all food was labeled, so this was problematic. They served several Jerk spiced items which I did not try as this is not my cup of tea (especially if there is no ginger beer or Ting) to wash it down. Try it you may or may not like it. There were a steady stream of customers the day I was there. Give it a go and let me know what you think.

She sat our drink at anther table the guy told her she took it off his table and served it to us. Nasty .had no idea what to do as it was our first time here.no desert on all you can eat .I truly believe waitress didn't like white people. I went for lunch with co-workers. Took some time to get us seated from the register (10mins), so if you are in a hurry not recommended for lunch. Now for service, fantastic, great and truly pleasant. They were on top of everything and friendly. Food, was traditional comfort food. Cooked in small portions, warm and best of all they server it to you avoiding guest touching food. Mac and cheese was 3.5star(hard to beat Mama's). Cabbage, jerk chicken and black eyed peas 4stars. Mash potatoes 2star. I definitely will be back. I want to try thier greens and ox tails which weren't available that day. Plan on $20min with drink.

First time here! My eyes were to big for my belly! I ordered the buffet & Everything tasted great. They even had your choice of blue or red kool-aid. Just like a soul food spot suppose to have. Not from here, but my husband wanted soul food. Amazing! I’m not a big soul food person, so me saying that it was amazing means a lot! Our picky boys enjoyed it too! There was a lot of choices to choose from, it was a buffet. You can get your food To go if you want. I even ordered Kool-Aid! Haven’t had that since I was a kid. That was yummy! One complaint; they didn’t have dessert on the buffet menu. However, you can purchase at an additional charge. This restaurant is 4 blocks away from the George Floyd memorial (A must see).

During the first time that I ordered from Mama Ann's, they substituted one of the items that I ordered without confirming the item with me and the food didn't taste so fresh. The chicken was cooked perfect with no seasoning and the yams seemed old. But, I was really craving southern food again and this place was close to my house. So, I gave this place another shot. I'm glad that I did. My second order was perfection!!!!! The yams were fresh, the mac and cheese was succulent and the chicken was cooked and seasoned just like my grandmother use to make them. I will definitely be ordering again and I suggest you to as well. Thank you!!

I started going to Mama Sheila’s in November of 2021. I’ve had to keep coming back due to the quality & flavor of the food. My personal favorites are the greens, mac & cheese, perfectly seasoned fried chicken, fall off the bone hot wings, along with the red beans, & rice. I also thoroughly enjoy the fact that you are able to choose from an assortment of mouthwatering Kool Aid flavors with your meal as well. Definitely one of the best places to get soul food in Minnesota. If you haven’t tried it yet go check it out you’ll prolly be hooked just like I am.

When we first walked in , we had to say hello first and heard complaints about how we “Let all of the cold air in” the cashier was barely interested in engaging with us, she warmed up after awhile though.We ended up getting the buffet, the older lady serving up the food was sweet, so it made the experience a little better. The restaurant had some nice decor, 90s r&b was playing , so that was nice, the food was a little cold, granted it was later in the evening. Overall, it was an okay experience and I wish them all of the success.

My favorite soul food restaurant in the Twin Cities! I drive across town to come here. Their prices are good and the food is always fresh. The flavor and quality is consistent. I've never been disappointed with their food or service. The only thing I wish they had, were more dessert options (but it could be that they are out by the time I get there as I typically go later in the evenings.) Other than that I absolutely love Mama Sheila's and have recommended them to many people who also enjoy their food.

Sweet, spicy, smokey and MESQUITE flavor, I'm still dreaming about it days after. For $20, you DO get ALL you can eat (good luck, big portions!), served fresh by a sweet Grandma along with friendly staff. Mama Sheila's yams were a delicacy, the cabbage and greens were potent with great flavor, the cornbread was excellent and all chicken/wings were tender, flavorful and home cooked. Now for the jerk spaghetti: YOU all HAVE to try THIS! The jerk spaghetti was new to my palate, yet I wolfed down two helpings it was so good. The decor is onyx and gold, multiple tvs, ESPN, etc all over and clean. The walls and decor showcase many of America's most important black patrons, many who have frequented Mama Shiela's Soul Food Restaurant. 5 stars for just flavor alone. They can cook so treat yourselves to some REAL food!

This place was incredible! I didn't know how buffets would work in this climate, but their system and execution feels pretty flawless! It's easily the best meatloaf, collard greens, and jerk spaghetti that I've ever had. The staff was attentive throughout the meal and was very friendly with us. Positively delicious southern cooking. Best collard greens I've had, and I lived in Atlanta. Mama Sheila runs the kitchen and she knows what she's doing. Her husband did the decorating/remodeling and is often out in the restaurant area greeting people and making sure everybody is completely satisfied. Super friendly staff. You can either have the "all you can eat" buffet for about $20 or you can pick and choose certain items with cost by weight. Groups of 10 or more should make a reservation. Because I wanted to try a little bit of everything I went for the buffet. But I will definitely be back to try the oxtail stew. My favorites were the collard greens, the smothered chicken, and the macaroni and cheese. Also had the peach cobbler which was fantastic, but I would prefer a little less spice ... perhaps nutmeg. Since everything is homemade, it is possible that this one particular pan of cobbler got over spiced too. Others at the table raved about it.

This place is dishing out what is easily the best southern style comfort food in the twin cities. The fried chicken is wonderfully crispy, and the jerk chicken is exactly the right kind of spicy, and I loved them both. The red beans and rice is hearty and nourishing, and reminds me of a place in New Orleans that I love called Melba's. The mashed potatoes and gravy and macaroni and cheese were excellent as well (the gravy was bursting with flavor). Everything was perfect, down to the interior decorating and the music. The owner and all the employees are pleasant and easy-going, and I just can't say enough nice things about Mama Sheila's. I will be back.

For $20+$10 tip, you get ALL you can eat, served fresh by a sweet Grandma along with friendly staff. Mama Sheila's yams were a delicacy, the cabbage and greens were potent with great flavor, the cornbread was excellent and all chicken/wings were tender, flavorful and home cooked. Now for the jerk spaghetti: YOU all HAVE to try THIS! The jerk spaghetti was new to my palate, yet I wolfed down two helpings it was so good. Spicey, smokey and MESQUITE flavor for days, I'm still dreaming about it. Would recommend supporting their business. The decor is onyx and gold, multiple tvs, ESPN, etc all over and clean. The walls and decor showcase many of America's most important black patrons, many who have frequented Mama Shiela's Soul Food Restaurant. 5 stars for just flavor alone. They can cook so treat yourselves to some REAL food!

The only suggestion I will have is to offer white meat(chicken breast) in all of the chicken dishes. Besides that this place is amazing. It was ok. Buffet style, but nothing was really available at the time I went. Seems like they were holding on to some items from lunch or something. The elder lady in the Buffet room was rude. Sorry, but she was. The chicken was tasty, I didn't enjoy my spaghetti at all, or all my food touching in the container. I would suggest eating there. When I got home my chicken was soggy and spaghetti sauce was on everything. Overall it tasted like a grandma's kitchen, pricey, but ok if you can't cook that kind of food yourself.

As a southerner, born and raised, I was excited to try Mama Sheila's. But it pales in comparison. For MN, it's definitely the best soul food around. And even with that being said, it's just OKAY food. There's only one man on the serving line fixing food at a buffet. When I asked him what TYPE of greens (turnips or collards) they were serving, he told me they were the same. AND got an attitude because I asked. There's a sign that says not to waste the food and I wanted to honor their wish by knowing what I was consuming. The cornbread was cold. The red beans & rice, soupy. The greens (which were collards), tangy. The black eyed peas, dry and overcooked. The chicken fryer parts were pretty good and well seasoned; definitely the best thing I had.

Food was good. The people were very nice. But it was very expensive for the two of us. I think it is priced with the assumption that you will eat a lot. But we are older and went for the flavor, not the quantity. We would have had more than enough sharing one plate and been happy. I thought the price, $18.95 was much too expensive for a buffet. And while I'm on price, there is an additional charge of $1.95 if you want dessert. Only 2 options here, banana pudding & sweet potato pie. I've never heard of paying extra for dessert at a buffet. Now, to the buffet itself: In my opinion, this place is not setup as a buffet. The food is located in a small room in the back all in stainless chafing dishes being kept warm by the use of Sterno fuel cans. Sort of like the set up one would expect at an office party, banquet or perhaps a wedding reception (temporary/mobile). With this setup, a lot of the chafing dishes had lift off covers with no place to lay the lids. I won't even mention the sanitary issues with everyone touching these handles with the cold & flu season approaching. Either hinged covers or roll top covers would be a better choice here if they are going to stick with this type of presentation. On to the food, which is probably why 98% of the people go there. I thought the food was just so-so for "soul" food, nothing really spectacular. The tiled dining floor was very slippery due to the fact that it was raining outside. I'd hate to be walking on that floor when the snow comes. On the positive side, I thought the atmosphere was great. Of all the dishes there on this particular day, I thought the fried chicken wings were the best. I really would like to see this establishment succeed, but honestly right now I can't recommend this place. I won't be returning until the issues mentioned above have been worked out, especially the price.

This restaurant is simply A-m-a-z-i-n-g! There were 12 of us with no reservation and we were accommodated without hesitation. The service and staff were impeccable. The food was sooooo good. I'm a pescatarian and was able to get the fried catfish along with the buffet. The buffet was clean and our server served us so there were none of the germ qualms I have at regular buffets. I tried the vegetarian greens (yum), mac and cheese (so tasty), and the salmon croquettes (perfection) others in my group ate more of the meat items and cleared their plates. I will be back here again next time I'm back in Minneapolis.

I visited this new establishment recently, the black-eyed peas were very good, mac&cheese, potatoes were good. I also had the green's which was vinegary and sugary which took away from the taste of the greens. I usually give places a 2nd chance so I will go here again, although one of my favorites is green's so if it's still sugary, I won't go there again. So if your a person who don't mind sugar in foods like green's and spaghetti you may like Mama Sheila's.

This was my 1st time at this restaurant. The great thing this is a buffet...that is also the bad thing. The food was awesome we had mac and cheese , chicken ,jerk chicken and jerk spaghetti. It's a out 36 bucks for 2 people and the driins are included. Nice atmosphere and clean. Parking is a bit dicey ut free on the street. It's a must visit if you like should food....I will be back but will need some one to drive me next time so I dont fall asleep driving home.
