Mac's is a small fast food restaurant serving fish and seafood. You can buy fish and chips with cod, walleye, or halibut. You can also get shrimp or clams with chips. They also have fish tacos available. The food was prepared as we ordered and was fresh. You can order to take out or eat in at the restaurant. This was a fun place to stop for a quick lunch.

It was pretty good. Cooked well. Had walleye, cheese curds and fries. The cheese curds are amazing! Not a big fan of the cole slaw, could use more flavor, but everything else was good. And the service was friendly and fast. Would probably like tidge more seasoning in the fish batter, but they were cooked perfectly. Really enjoyed the key lime jalapeño tartar sauce! Nothing fancy inside but there is a cool mural on the wall, and they do have a few outside tables. I go back regularly.

We went here and like the fish and chips but not a weekly meal due to the deep fried food. Unfortunately, the people that seemed to be in charge were less than hospitable when we asked to reheat the order we placed. In fairness, we were 10 min late due to snowy roads but we were returned with grumbling and a complaint that we were late. Not good customer service. I guess asking for ketchup was also a problem. Won't be frequenting this place as much as I thought I would when there are so many other options. Don't need the negative attitude. After all, I wasn't asking to go and catch a fresh walleye and cook it.

Neighborhood staple. Fish is not the most seasoned by itself but tastes great with the lime jalapeno sauce. The cheese curds are top-notch, comparable to the fair in my humble opinion.

First time in Minneapolis. Found Mac's on Google. Swung by from the airport. Wow!!!! I had a Walleye taco and a cod taco. Delish. Husband had traditional fish n chips. Best he's ever had, ever! Great slaw, too. Fish tasty and fresh, batter light and perfect! Place very clean. Tables apart. Very safe. 2 thumbs up.

Great food at a great price. Fish and shrimp we ordered were fresh and delicious. Ordered ahead and they brought our food out curbside. Will definitely be coming back. Note as of this review, they are not opened on Sunday so don't try to order online as it will not be fulfilled.

They also make amazing fresh made taffy in many colors & flavors wrapped in wax paper, sold by weight so you can choose how much of what you want

Absolutely delicious fish and chips! I get the cod every time. Their tartar sauce and their jalapeño sauce are the bomb. They have actually good fries. And I don’t mind their coleslaw. Could be better but it’s not horrible.

Best in the Metro for fresh "Fish & Chips!" I think I've had just about everything on the menu, never a bad basket since they opened! My favorites are the Halibut (pictured), Walleye & Cod. They know how to cook 'em and their hospitality is always spot on. They are so nice! I also love their homemade Tarter Sauce & Salt Water Taffy!

Some of the best fried walleye in Saint Paul. Fresh, flavorful, and served exceptionally hot - just perfect. The fries stood up to the fish, vital for any fish & chips basket. My friends tried cod and shrimp, each were quite enjoyable.

The fish, i tried them all, is very well done. breading is light and crispy. It was lacking flavor. it needed some seasoning. If you have a favorite rub to put on, or some spices, you are good to go. The shrimp were delicious. Good home cut fries..

Ordered chicken strips. Got home and realized they were burned. I called immediately and was told it was my fault because i should have ordered them lightly done, lol. And that I might get a free meal next time if he was around. That's what happens when you leave management to a child. He had no idea what to do except blame me for my food being burned. Nice job. BTW, your coleslaw is still bland with no flavor at all after all these years. Add something please. Fries are mediocre at best as usual.- get a different potato.

I stopped here just the other day, and it was surprisingly good. I mean the breaded cod that was part of my number #1 combo meal, was just excellent. The fish had just the right amount of fishyness without overpowering my senses. Plus it is always good to to have fries and coleslaw with my meal. Now this is truly a meal that I could really sink my teeth into, or just nibble like a snack. Which I kind of like to do sometimes. I so want to go back and maybe try their taffy or even fish tacos as well.

Fantastic fish! Their walleye basket is my favorite. Their fries (when done right) are almost state fair level. I love their homemade tartar sauce, goes great with the fish. I don't eat coleslaw but my wife says it's good, do there's that. Definitely should try!

Everyone is super nice and helpful. A lady came in before me, very karen like and said she would leave a bad review be she felt ignored but all he did was finish packing an order. He says this happens a lot… that’s very sad an adults need to do better. Let’s all practice patience if not y’all should not be out in society.

Friendly staff, the clams were hand-breaded, the "chips" (fries) are fresh cut. The clam breading was light and crispy but the flavor could have had a little more seasoning. The cole slaw was bland. I'll go back again because they have several other options worth trying.

I don't often review things on here, but I feel like this is deserves it! Last week, I ordered a chicken strips basket from Mac's, and it was fantastic! The breading is thick, but also delicate. The key lime jalapeno sauce is the perfect pairing! I definitely plan on coming back to try the seafood options! I would definitely recommend reheating once you get home, if you are unable to eat immediately. There are instructions provided on the takeout bag, and reheating perfectly refreshed the breading and fries after the drive home.

This food is really good. The cheese curds are amazing and the fish is too. My only criticism is that the salt is too big, and sometimes feels like eating rocks. I feel that it would be much more comfortable to eat if you used salt flakes instead, while still having that large look on the fish. All in all, definitely a place to eat at.

I LOVE this place. They have a delicious crunchy batter that they dip walleye, cod or halibut in. It’s served with hand cut fries and a piece of flavored taffy They have great tarter sauce ( 2 varieties), as well as, malted vinegar. My teen kids love the chicken and cheese curds. ( also dipped in their own batter). Few other options on menu as well. Yum!

Had a hankering for Fish and chips. Found Mac’s. The cheese curds were excellent. Great batter perfect temperature. I had the Cod, wife had the Walleye. The Cod was NOT bland as mentioned in other reviews. In fact quite tasty. Perfectly cooked, flakey, and very good. Wife says Walleye was better. I disagree. Tavern on Grand has better Walleye. However the walleye here is great. Not cheap but fairly priced. About $15 a serving. They do have a meal deal for four for $40. Small place, clean and cozy. Definitely check it out.

Great fish, staff was super friendly. Menu was small, but covered all the necessities. Had the walleye, clam strips and cheese curds. All of which were good, but maybe fry the cheese curds in a different vat than the fish... Chips were pretty pedestrian. All-in-all good experience and I'd definitely stop in if I'm back in the neighborhood.

Excellent oyster basket! More than you can eat! Came across town just for oyster strips! Did sit inside and has outside seating..tricky to get to since construction is in the way. But Open- and delicious..features best fish- walleye- cod- and more with chips....of course we were out for the oyster strips..but the menu is awesome! Highly recommend!

I love their fish and chips! Once I was there and I saw they were Giving some to a regular homeless person. It was quite nice to see people still have hearts. Anyways if I didn’t get sick whenever I had fish and chips I’d come here more often. But the food is great!

This is my favorite fish & chips place and has been for over 10 years. Started going to the Roseville location in high school and switched to the South Minneapolis location when I moved. The staff is very friendly, the food is cooked to order and is always delicious. Their homemade tartar sauce is the best. Portions are great and prices are fair. They also make great homemade salt water taffy in a wide range of flavors. I highly recommend this restaurant!

The cod was really lightly battered and flaky! But the batter, and fries lacked salt. The tacos are amazing! the cheese curds are stupid yummy, the batter is barely there, and the curds are melty. the state fair has nothing on the curds here.

The fish was really good!!! I knocked off a couple stars because of customer service. I placed my order online around 5:45pm and chose 7:00pm as the time I would like to pick up my order. When my husband arrived at the restaurant early to pick it up, he said the cashier told him the food had been sitting there for quite some time (probably from around the time I ordered it). The cashier asked if my husband would like the cook to reheat up our food because it was their fault since our receipt stated “7:00” as the pick up time. The cook refused to reheat our food for some reason. My husband brought the cold food home and we had to reheat it ourselves. It was still good, but disappointed they did not help us out more because of their mistake.

Small place making fresh, quality fish and chips. Prices are very reasonable. You can choose to have just the fish, fish and a half order of fries and coleslaw, or a full order. I had the half cod. The breading was light and crispy. Fish was fresh. Great fries! I tried my husband's walleye and it was good too. It seemed a little lighter than the cod, but really didn't have too much of a difference. They have an area for malted vinegar, tartar, and a special key lime sauce that you can help yourself to. The order came out with a piece of salt water taffy, which was a nice surprise.

Halibut is equal to the best steak! Nice people. Fast service. Only minor complaint is the fries are cut too small in length. They are delicious but not cut the long way. Bits and pieces. Expensive if you go with the halibut but Cod and Walleye are great too.

The walleye tacos are good when the fish is ordered crispy at least. The chips (fries) were super soggy and the cheese curds were drenched in oil with an odd taste to the batter... might come back for just the tacos but nothing else.

This place is REALLY good y'all! A bit pricey I might say but my boyfriend doesn't agree 🤷🏽‍♀️ he got the walleye and it was about $15 and he said he loved it. I got the cob and to be honest it was a kinda bland on the taste but over all it was good. They could give you a bigger piece of lemon but if needed I'm sure you could ask for more. If you're looking for a new place to try they are DEFINITELY worth it! 👌🏼

Best Fish and Chips I have had in the Twin cities - and I do have some bad reviews. We had the chicken, walleye, cod and halibut. It was all good so I would say the Halibut is not worth the price. Food was not overly salted.

My daughter and I love this place. I get the Walleye, and she gets the Chicken Strips. It's a little bare bones inside, but we don't come here for the ambiance we come for the food. Employees are consistently awesome as well. Portions are good sized, so we get the half baskets. I will say the price is a little on the high end, but it pans out given the quality of what they serve you.

This place came as a recommendation; but I was underwhelmed. I ordered the shrimp- cod combo. Was surprised that there were only three pieces of shrimp included. The cod was bland and the fries were not fresh and a bit burned. The shrimp and the spicy dipping sauce were good. It is a clean place and the staff was friendly.

Don't bother going anywhere else for fish and chips, Mac's has them beat. Service is always top notch, fast and friendly. Reasonable prices too. Make sure you try the tartar sauce, both kinds. And if you're feeling adventurous they have some excellent rosemary vinegar for dipping.

This place doesn't look much but boy does it deliver with its food. Excellent choice of fish and other foods along with chips and sides. Different sized and priced portions help the more, or less hungry. When not serving hot good, these guys are making taffy. Free samples available if you are ordering food and a free piece with your order. For fish n chips, this Englishman approves.

Cod value basket is fab! The fish was perfectly fried, not greasy, not burnt. Just right. Thick meaty chips, so good doused in malt vinegar and dipped in housemade tarter sauce. Beer, nice staff, saltwater taffy. This place is great.only thing I'd wish for is some mushy peas.

Very good fish and chips in a low-key, no frills environment. I like that they have several fish options and their tartar sauce and rosemary malt vinegar are both delicious accompaniments. My kids really enjoyed it, too, which is a big plus.

There are two locations, both are great. I dined at South Mpls site. As always the Halibut was perfect, good clams are hard to find but they are really good here. Order at counter they will bring it to you. MX coke available too.

Great local place to get fish and chips. I had the classic Cod (2 pieces) and substituted the fries for Poutine, and everything was good. The Poutine was larger than I expected, and could have got away with only 1 piece of fish and Poutine. My only negative thing I could say is that the cheese curds could have melted a little more in the Poutine, but still good none the less. Not enough to lower the rating. Prices are comparable to a more traditional sit down restaurant.

I really enjoy the options at Mac's. Walleye, Halibut and Cod. The Halibut was breaded nicely and flakey as well. You can order 2 pieces with fries, 1 piece with fries or just fish and no fries. They do not serve beer, the atmosphere feels a bit like a fast food joint. Walk up to the counter to order, pop machine for drinks and a few tables. The fish here and at The Anchor are both damn good. If you're looking for more fish options it's Mac's if you're looking for an atmosphere it's The Anchor.

Great fish and chips made to order. Friendly staff. Parking is a pain and the traffic around the area is problematic. Despite that, its worth braving the aforementioned hassles to pick up some fresh and delicious fried fish. This place makes the greater neighborhood feel special.

I refuse to pit Mac's and Anchor against each other for best fish and chips because they both do it different and both do it good...but because Mac's is on the southside I rarely go north to anchor...and...I'm ok with that. Besides the fried clams here...the best...and I always get an order. If fish isn't your dish then the chicken is an acceptable replacement. The chicken is worth a look...very good. The poutine is also in need of your attention...also very good. I love this place. My only complaint is there is one night a week they aren't open and even now I couldn't tell you which day that was...and I complain only cause when your craving Mac's and you arrive and its not open...that's enough to make the most well adjusted adult cry...

Ordered Mac’s to go for the first time this week. It was surprisingly good! Fries made fresh and the breaded walleye & halibut wasn’t greasy. They even put a few laffy taffy’s in the bag. Very friendly staff, too!

Fries were rather soggy which is why I only gave 4 stars. Shrimp and clams were fantastic! Well seasoned corn meal batter. Perfectly cooked. Not at all rubbery. Key lime tartar sauce and rosemary malt vinegar are special touches that shouldn't be overlooked.

This is a great place with a simple, straightforward menu. Everything is fried so if you're not a fan of that cooking method....this is not your place. The batter on the fish is light and crispy....reminded me of tempura more than traditional thick batters. Yum, will go again.

This small restaurant serves exceptional fish & chips to eat in or take out. Most business tends to be take out although they have several tables for dine in usage. All food is cooked to order and you have a choice between Cod, Halibut, Walleye, Shrimp, Clams, or Chicken Strips. You can order 1 or 2 pieces of fish for your order for various prices. Your order includes a free piece of home made salt water taffy. Additional taffy can be purchased. All French fries are made from fresh potatoes. A limited selection of beer and wine is also available.

Accidentally discovered this place and what a find. Excellent, friendly service to match some delicious, freshly hand breaded fish and chips at an unbelievable low price. The Lime Jalapeno Tartar Sauce was the best. Definitely recommend a visit.

I wasn't really impressed, doesn't come anywhere close to Anchor. Curds were good, the fish was OK (I felt the cod was mushy, walleye was better). Slaw was not good at all(dry and tasted old). I was expecting better, and probably won't feel the urge to go back.

Best fish and chips in MN. I had been going to Mac's in St. Paul for many many years. I was so happy when the opened the Mac's in Richfield. Much closer to my Bloomington home. The chips are from fresh cut MN grown potato. So good.
