Wow. I have never experienced anything like this place. The service was phenomenal - staff very friendly and helpful, and we truly didn't wait for anything. The second we were low on a drink, our server was there ready to ask if we wanted another. The food was amazing, we shared Korean fried cauliflower, roasted Brussel sprouts and side of fries. Also has roasted red pepper sounds. Everything on the menu is worth getting. Long story short, make a reservation ahead and go enjoy this place.

Absolutely wonderful. My parents, aunt and I went for lunch today. Patio seating with perfect weather. Our waiter Gerald was friendly and informative. My father and I both had Buttermilk Chicken Sandwiches which were enormous. My mother ordered the Asian Slaw Salad with Salmon and had plenty to take home. My aunt ordered a side salad and nibbled on our meals.

Friendly helpful staff, great food. They accommodated us outside for a group of 10, rearranging tables with a great attitude. I had the poke nachos and the loco novo with ahi tuna - not sure what they put in that sauce to make it so delicious! Hubby enjoyed the wings and Cesar salad. All great!

I love Lake and Irving for breakfast. We always get their ghost bowl and are never disappointed. While their food is always amazing their service can be hit and miss. This last time we went we sat for awhile without being helped and then things we asked for were never brought and we had to seek out a different server because ours was on her phone or talking to other staff. While that was disappointing our food was still very good!

Our first time attending was during their Rare Bourbon and BBQ Social and it was fantastic. Both the staff and atmosphere was on point and speaking with some of the patrons we have a laundry list of items to go back and try. Would wholeheartedly recommend.

What a great find! Mix of tavern and Hawaiian food. We ordered 9 dishes across our family and everything was wonderful. Fantastic smoked wings, great ahi loco moco and the hot fries were so good! My wife always says you can judge a place by their salad and this was had great, fresh ingredients and a delicious lemongrass dressing. This will be a place we go to a few times a year - that good!

Unassuming for how top notch the menu is! So so good!! Very honest and friendly staff. Appears like a cozy, casual pub… but then they offer extraordinary hand crafted cocktails (mocktails are also great) and a high class menu with some Hawaiian influence. We heard the chef studied in Hawaii (how cool!?). They have burgers for traditional eaters, but I had the Opakapaka and I think chicken lovers would really enjoy this meal. The texture and color mimic chicken, but it’s technically a red/pink snapper fish. It’s served atop veggies and makes it a healthy choice!! Husband had the Loco Moco with regular beef and he thought it was delicious. And those three coconut shrimp on the loco moco: we’re ordering as an appetizer next time! Bangin’ shrimp!! 😎😂 We’ll be back!!

First of all our waitress was outstanding. I just didn't get her name. We stumbled upon this spot trying to go to Italian restaurant down the street. We walked past it twice. Even met a couple that asked us where the restaurant was located. At the moment we did not know. So I guess you can say, it was meant for us to be there. Seated and family had sparkling water to start. We're a family of five with a super baby. So trying to find a place to eat on Saturday afternoon is not usually easy on a whim. Ok, so let me tell you, the food was absolutely the best dish I've even in Minnesota. (See photos for dishes) my wife never finishes her dish. I was scared she was gonna lick the plate. My youngest boy ordered the burger. He had tears coming out of his eyes. I asked him what was wrong. He said that his burger was amazing. My daughter and her boyfriend were quiet the entire time, with eyes closed looking to heaven. I knew something was wrong. No, they were just deep into there dinner. So much they didn't notice my baby grandson sneaking French fries from their plates. I finished the dinner with cheesecake, I never get desert, ok rarely. Just heaven. I guess to say it yes. We will be back soon I have to eat the entire menu. Hand clap for the chef and team at Lake & Irving. You really made our evening. We will see you again soon.

Shelby and Jerald did a great job at the bar tonight. It was quiet enough when they opened that I was able to make a special request to sub a sauce and try something new - I've literally ordered everything at least once here and the specials are what keep me coming back after a couple years of living in the area. If you want familiar with a twist of original and especially if you're interested in Asian and Pacific Island fusion options, you'll find something to like in the food. This place deserves 5 stars and handful cheers. I am literally writing this right at the table. Our server Matt was wonderful and he was a delight. The food is exceptionally delicious. Right from my first dish to the last. I will be back to definitely try more dishes. The coconut shrimp and KFC were delicious. And the chef actually agreed to make us an exception and made us a chicken pasta which was yummmm…. The Luxe burger was juicy… the only suggestion is too change the deserts on menu. But overall this place is a BOMB.

Unbelievable experience here when we visited from out of town. I had the Ahi Loco Moco and it was the best fish I've ever had. it was also one of the more expensive meals I've eaten, but you get what you pay for.

UPDATE: Been here multiple times now and the food and service are still amazing. Food was fantastic, service was great, and it felt like a chill neighborhood restaurant. Lives up to the hype! We had the pork dumplings, luxe Burger, and buttermilk chicken sandwich... normally it would have been enough food for left overs but we both finished every bite.

I would give more stars if they let me. Every bite was one of the best ever. Restaurant week so I am not sure how prices are normally but the quality and taste are worth it. Appetizer, entree and dessert all solid. Wife says the Burger was her best ever and the cheesecake was my favorite

My partner found this place on Google and we decided to stop by on our way out of town. MY GOODNESS was it a good decision. We had the Coconut Shrimp and Ahi Tuna and both were amazing and delicious. Drinks were also delectable. Server was very friendly and attentive. Food and drinks were out in a very timely manner.

Lake & Irving always has good food and a great patio, their specials always are good as well. I had the crab cake Benedict special and it was great. The potatoes were addicting, and the crab cake seemed to have very little if any filling and was all beautiful crab. Highly recommend.

We dined here with a friend while visiting town last weekend, and were able to sample a wide variety of the menu. We really enjoyed the korean fried cauliflower, poke nachos, and the loco moco, which was a great take on a Japanese curry. The Korean gochujang wings were also flavorful and tender. I also enjoyed the Fig & Rye and Moriarty cocktails. The drink menu also featured a nice selection of classic cocktails as well. The service was attentive and helpful in guiding us to the most flavorful dishes on the menu.

I had to find out for myself whether all the hype was deserved. I had the luxe burger with fries and a Lupulin Hooey (hazy IPA). An excellent burger and good beer pairing. I went without bacon, but would choose to add bacon next time. My wife had the buttermilk crispy chicken sandwich with a Fig & Rye cocktail. She loved it. I had a taste of the Fig & Rye and found it to be delicious.

Aweaome service!! Limited menu, but everything was delicious and unique. The ahi bomb was so good we got a second! Also loved the salmon. Hubby thought it was one of the best burgers he ever had. Will go again!

Fab food at any time fo the day. Photos from brunch. It was tough to pick with so many delicious options. I’ll get brisket next time and hope somebody with me gets a Benedict. The fresh fruit was actually good fruit when I ordered a side for my toddler. We don’t like melons and we got all berries :). Specialty cocktails hit the spot. I think I heard some of the burgers are also fab.

Great patio and the KFC (Korean fried cauliflower) was fabulous with an incredible sauce on it. It's a small plate and it was good enough to work as the main dish. I also had the roasted Brussel sprouts and Kentucky bourbon sauced Wings as well with a great beer from Steel Toe brewery down the street.

My all time favorite restaurant in Minneapolis. Never disappointed me. Keep coming back and always find something new and delicious. Friendly and quick service. Not cheap, but it is well worth the price! Today I tried the 'loco moco' (pat la freida beef patties, coconut shrimp, fried egg, furikake sushi rice, japanese curry gravy). It was phenomenal! Finished it up with a perfectly made crème brûlée. Once again I had a great experience at Lake and Irving!!! Thank you!

I loved to have dinner here. The person serving had great knowledge of the menu and all his recommendations were superb. The food is really awesome and will literally make your taste buds will for more. Salmon was great. Starters like coconut shrimp, fried sprouts and KFC ( I also got confused first like you but its a cauliflower dish) is awesome. Definitely highly recommend.

Although the menu prices are a bit on the side of 'high', it was well-worth the visit. Located just the opposite corner from Lunds / Byerly's, it's relatively easy to pass by driving. The exterior looks a bit outdated around a so-so block, but the outside looks definitely doesn't offer what the actual food tastes like. We've started with a salmon tartare-like small plate as an appetizer (looking at the menu online, it doesn't seem like this dish exist any longer). It was one of the best salmon dishes I've ever had. It was so good that we both treated it as a delicacy and didn't want to finish. For the main course, I had the buttermilk chicken sandwich, which was very generous in portion. You can definitely taste the difference compared to other chicken sandwiches as there is a recipe distinction compared other competitors. The truffle fries were also amazing. Other places can be too soggy or a strong vinegary taste, but the balance was very good here. Also serves local beers here, and the waiter suggested me an excellent hazy IPA that is brewed in Big Lake, MN (called the Hooey from Lupulin Brewery). Definitely a great visit, and will come back soon!

Pleasant, quiet alley-like outdoor dining space, with plenty of room between tables. Our sandwiches - a caprese panini and a buttermilk-battered chicken and bacon - were seriously yummy. Good service is hard to come by these days, with servers necessarily masked-up and perhaps a little out of practice after a few months away from the job. But we were cared for well enough, and the food was served promptly and came out hot. We'll be back.

Lovely little restaurant by the corner! I had the chicken and waffles which was delicious and filling. My lady had the Asian salad which also had generous proportions and she liked it too. The patio was nice this is where we ate. Good service, easy to walk to from Bde Mka Ska. Will be back

Awesome food, staff an environment. During the warm days the outdoor deck is great. My favorite dish is the Brisket Hash, just delicious. Update Aug 2019 Ghost Pepper Bowl. Get the aioli on the side if unsure about how you handle spice! DELICIOUS. Also thank you for carrying Marion Blackberry preserves as it's my fav.

this restaurant is a family fave. last night we were running late with bad traffic and texted the hostess who responded sweetly and she changed my reservation. our server was beyond kind and friendly to our party which included two young children. some see children as less than ideal restaurant patrons so it was so heartwarming to see them welcomed. our food was, as always, delicious. my partner was raving about his sandwich this morning (even though he gets it almost every time we visit). i rarely do these reviews but we just so appreciate everything about this place! their patio is the best in the city but it’s important about how they make us feel every time we visit. kudos!

The food here is unspeakably delicious! I've come for brunch twice. I absolutely love the brisket hash. It's so yummy! The mimosas pair well with it also. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. I recommend Lake and Irving as a great place to dine.

Known for their buttermilk chicken sandwiches and rightfully so! I would say their fried chicken is the best in Minneapolis. Other than their famous chicken, the entrees are solid as well. Their “loco moco” was full of flavor and was excellent. Perfect for two people to share along with a side of their “KFC” Korean fried cauliflower! Great spot and would strongly recommend others in the area!!

AMAZING food! I highly, highly recommending the Misoyaki Salmon. Super flavorful salmon meat and the wild rice, the hoisin barbecue and miso vinaigrette complimented the dish beautifully. Great atmosphere for dinner and drinks. We also had the Furikake Chicken as a starter which was so delicious too! Definitely a place on my “go back to” list.

I’ve been to Lake and Irving probably 3 or 4 times. Each time it gets better and better. I’ve had the same server a couple of times, Jennifer, and she’s been an absolute gem. Every staff person I’ve interacted with has been amazing but Jennifer is personable, attentive, thoughtful and fun to be around. The food is amazing. Their brunch is unmatched, it’s the first place I suggest to friends. Their ghost bowl is my personal fave. For dinner, they have fun cocktails delicious beers and wines. A massive selection of whiskeys. Their chicken sandwich is worth the hype, love their apps and Asian slaw salad is delicious. I can’t speak highly enough. 10/10

Me and my boyfriend love going to this place. It's right down the street from our place and we love it since we moved here. In fact we just celebrated a birthday here, and although we had to rush out at the very end the waitress we had was super understanding and kind. All the staff is friendly and they always have great music playing. Will continue to come here forsure!

I went to lake and Irving for the first time today. Immediately I was in love. The hostess was so sweet and cute! Quick service, great waitress and strong drinks. The vibe was also dope string lights, comfy enough chairs and low fi-esk rap music. And let me say that the waitress was beyond nice and relatable. It almost felt like I’d come here 100 times before. She was so sweet. It’s a no pressure place to relax.

Super good food in an inviting hip/chill atmosphere. Service was a lil slow, but the food made up for it! We had the "KFC", coconut shrimp, and the spicy chkn sandwich with hot fries. My gf had the salmon quinoa and truffle fries. The kfc was delicious and almost had me thinking it was boneless chicken bites. The coconut shrimp was fresh and tasty. The highlight was easily the spicy chicken sandwich and hot fries. Easily one of the spiciest meals I've had in the twin cities and it was equally as tasty. I tried some of her truffle fries (dusted em with hot fry dust and used the hot fry dip...so...frickin...good!) Would give this place 6 stars if I could due to how good the food was!

We have loved this restaurant since it opened. Our favorite in Minneapolis. The food is consistently delicious. We have never been disappointed in the food or drinks. Our service is also consistently great. We have yet to have a server who appears unhappy in their role. Highly recommend trying any special, the fried chicken sandwich or burger. And please order the brussels sprouts. Seriously so amazing.

mStopped in here last night ( Nov 12, 2021) for a quick snack and tried their in-house drinks (Old Fashioned and a hot pepper infused gin). They were excellent! The service was top-notch; very friendly and conversational, even though they were busy. Definitely recommend this nice place! We were here earlier this year and I tried their halibut meal. Will be back!

The most wonderful dining experience we have had in recent memory. Started off with a fantastic spicy gin cocktail (gimli), and every single dish was delicious (gochujang pork belly special, furikake chicken, loco moco, shoyu beef pasta). Really really exceptional food. Nathan was an amazing server who was attentive and very informative on the questions we had regarding the menu. He helped guide us to the best meal we could’ve hoped for and took care of us. We can’t wait to come back!

After takeout from Lake & Irving during the pandemic, we visited in person and it was fantastic. It's an unassuming neighborhood place, but we felt like regulars - I had a halibut special and it was fresh and perfect. Bar drinks are also excellent -their house Old Fashioned is very good and they even have Old Rip 10 year pours for a reasonable price. The service is just right - Ben was prompt and had good advice on menu and drink items. Even if we don't live nearby, we plan to be back when we can and will try to be one of the regulars.

The burger is amazing. 10/10. Same blend as parlour I think. The chicken sandwich was a bit much. It was a grilled cheese with fried chicken and bacon essentially, I wish it has more to cut the richness than the pickles on the side The side salad was really good and huge The fries were also amazing but the portion was small Definitely worth going to for the burger.

This was probably my 3rd time getting takeout from Lake and Irving and I’ve dined in twice as well. All great experiences. The buttermilk chicken sandwich is as good as they say but this last visit, I got the blackened Mahi sandwich and- wow. Sandwich of the Year for 2021. I got it with the hot fries and be aware, these fries are genuinely hot to the Minnesotan palate! I can remember from when I dined in that the tap list is something serious, too.

This used to be my favorite restaurant in the cities but more recently I have been disappointed with the food. I went last night and ordered the mahi mahi dish. Flavor was mediocre with a small piece of fish and random assortment of vegetables. Definitely not worth the $27. I ordered dessert because I was still hungry and was not impressed. Their appetizers are excellent though and the salmon dish is the only dish I enjoy. I wish they’d reassess their menu and work on the delicious flavors they had a year ago!!

Would say the slaw salad is wildly overpriced given it's basically a pile of shredded cabbage & that 7 dollars to add tofu is also ridiculous. The cheeseburger is one of the best in the city! Love the simplicity of it. The luxury burger with the Foie gras butter is also good but tastes pretty much the same, could barely tell the difference side by side. The chicken sandwich would have been an excellent bacon grilled cheese but was too much with the chicken on it.

Excellent dinner. We haven't been to a nice sit-down dinner for over a year due to covid. This was our first and what a treat! Great service, quick, and excellent food. They have contactless menus, so we could decide what we wanted right away. They have great mocktails as well. Good-size portions and excellent specials.

It's a medium-sized place, but there's always room for groups, and it's never especially loud. They have a good beer selection and an excellent cocktail selection. All are priced at more or less the average for drinks in the Twin Cities. Most importantly, the food is all reasonably-priced and delicious. If you want a burger, maybe go to Red Cow instead of here. But if you want *anything* else, the food here is great. It's a true Twin Cities original, and a very good one. Also, if you like brunch, theirs is excellent, and they have the best Bloody Mary mix around.

Wowzers what a great and wonderful atmosphere. My lady and I wanted a place that was dog friendly and this place was the first one that was available. It was pur first time here and oh emm Gee was the food amazing. I had the buttermilk chicken sandwich with no bacon and the lady had the caprese sandwich. We shared the KFC. Korean fried cauliflower and it was all soo good. Yummy. The helper Brian brought the puppy a bowl of water. So grateful for the small things. The server Dina was absolutely amazing and recommended the KFC from the start. She was great. The heaters outside are a must. And I think all restaurants should have them. The old fashioned drinks were flawless and the couple we engaged in conversation Mr Don and Kia were a great conversation. I learned alot about lifes abundance and blessings through their point of view. Thanks all for the great experience and time. I work alot and I needed the time to relax and get some peace of mind. You guys are absolutely wonderful. Try it out if you haven't and have a great meal with someone special and dear.

I went here with my boyfriend for the first time last Thursday after a long couple of weeks in order to relax, celebrate, and play trivia with Trivia Mafia & a group of friends who meet to play regularly. I had been reminded of trivia & looked into the venue to see if the menu was appealing for a relaxing escape & was pleasantly surprised by the upscale items listed. When we arrived, I noted the clean, warm, inviting atmosphere and the nice setup--an L-shaped bar & seating area. The place was unusually packed, so we requested a table with the host & sat at the bar, which we found delightful. The cocktails are large, flavorful, strong but not heavy-handed, and reasonably priced.The owner came by to let us know they were having trouble moving tables along not 30 seconds after we'd remarked that we didn't mind sitting at the bar one bit. The owner still bought our first round of drinks for the inconvenience. We ordered ahi tuna and a Cuban pork sandwich and both were superb. I cannot say enough about the quality of the food and the prowess of the kitchen staff. Impeccable. When the rest of our friends arrived, the place was still atypically full for a Thursday night, and the owner came by to express his concern that our friends--being regulars--weren't able to find a full table to themselves near the trivia setup, as they usually do. He comped a round for the inconvenience and spoke with his staff about changing the seating policy for Trivia Mafia in the future. The owner sat and talked with us about opening the place with his brother after having both taken off on culinary ventures in different regions, which is why the menu brings together this particular variety of selection. Everything about this place is fantastic & I'm happy to say I'll be making it a regular dining experience. If you want a warm atmosphere, excellent food, great drinks, and reasonable prices from a local, family-operated restaurant, look no further, Minneapolis!

A place with a cool ambience. It has everything for a nice chick place with a cool atmosphere and a good setting. Selected food items are just fantastic like the fires, stir fried veggies, and the presentation is amazing but other items could be better. The cheese cake specially is just the best. There is a parking lot behind but with limited parking in it. If you happen to go at a rush hour, you will have to find a metered spot or one of the side streets for parking. Staff is friendly.

I first discovered this place about a year ago and have been back several times as it's always excellent. I particularly like sitting on their side patio during the summer--it's in a side alley and the building blocks the sun, so you can sit outside without having to squint, it's also far enough away from the road that it's not too loud. The other reason I love this place is the food. It's clear from the menu that they have higher aspirations that your typical local bar. The happy hour menu has some great appetizers, my favorite is the furikake chicken. I recently came for brunch and had the ghost bowl, which as the names implies, was insanely spicy. So naturally I'm planning my next trip back to have it again.

Known for their chicken and waffles, I’ve had it multiple times. I’ll admit they are very good, but the price is insane for the portions you get. It’s very expensive even for uptown. I had chicken and waffles in Uptown Dallas and it was better, cheaper, and the portions were much larger. They give you the whole waffle and 4 chicken tender strips. Lake & Irving only gives half a waffle and 2 chicken tender strips. Would love to see them step it up because they are good especially with the real maple syrup.

You pick it up and it's just oozing with cheese! I chose fries as my side but salad is also an option and no additional cost. The fries were good. They use a thick sea salt and I tend to like my fries a little crispy.While summer is still around, it's a must to sit on the patio. Our family visits L&I quite a bit and have always enjoyed it. Had a particularly lovely time yesterday, our first time dining there since COVID. I called to ask if dogs were allowed on the patio and received an enthusiastic 'absolutely!'. We arrived and the host sat us and asked about my dog's name and if he needed water. Our server then came by and greeted my dog by name which was just a nice touch. Evan was kind and attentive, and the food and drinks were amazing. Best. Meal. EVER. I can't race enough about this place. This time (maybe my 4th visit) some friends went during restaurant week, and each got the $35 pre-fixed dinner with a $15 wine pairing for all three courses. Amazing. Simply amazing. I hate cauliflower, and yet their KFC (Korean fried cauliflower) blew me away (and that's on their normal menu!). Their broccolini was perfectly done, each wine pairing was a perfect match, and their house digestive at the end is my new favorite drink. Unfortunately we were so rapt by the food we forgot to take pictures! Pro-tip: L&I's head chef is Japanese, so there are wild twists (shoyu cream, miso garlic aoli) that you won't get at any other restaurant! Lean in to the twists, they're amazing!

It was good not great. The whole place had that mop water smell and the bathrooms were quite dirty, lighting was off (like the competing industrial lights from kitchen with ambient), music mix was odd. My chicken sandwich had potential, but the chicken inside was like double size, and the supporting ingredients were just lost. With a few tweaks to little details, I think L&I could really shine. Note I've only been once.

Great service as usual, and the food is still tasty -- although note there's a limited menu during patio only quarentine phase. The options on the menu were all delicious -- especially the truffle fries! If you're reading this during a COVID-19 era, they also paid good attention to social distancing, masks, and other cleanliness routines. Our favorites are the signature Buttermilk Chicken sandwich & the nutella french toast. The prices are very reasonable even compared to an applebees, perkins etc. WHen compared to some of the other boutique Minneapolis food-ie places, this place is inexpensive. If you like beer - they have tremendous selection, good value, generous portions, and an atmosphere of fun. There is a patio which has plenty of room is even being expanded which will be great. Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich - a ridiculously perfect sandwich - an ODE to the Chicken Tendermelt from Perkins Family Restaurants I think. I've been here about 15 times since they opened, and the french fries are always cooked perfect, the pickle with the sandwich is amazing, the sourdoagh bread, bacon, pepperjack cheese, and sauce is simply amazing. The chicken is like what you dream about - a juicy chicken breast fried with just the perfect amount of crisp breading. Nutella french toast - spectacular - and this is usually what we have our kids split when we go there now. Conclusion - this is an AMAZING restaurant and I want you to try it because the people who own it are tremendously humble and gifted, and the food is a great experience and wont disappoint.

Went for the first time with my husband and family from Italy. A friend had previously recommended this place to us, so we were excited to try it out. My family got the opakapaka fish, it was some of the best fish i've ever had (there is only one other place that I remember being this good) I had the special, which was orecchiette pasta with asparagus, a tomato sauce, and salmon. It was so delicious, why can't I make pasta like this at home? I also had a bite of my husbands Buttermilk chicken sandwich, that was also to die for. Everything I had here was delicious. I stopped in around 4pm on a Friday, and the place was the perfect mix of not too quiet and not too crowded. My table shared a caprese panini, truffle fries, and chips and guacamole, all of which we loved. For drinks we ordered a Le Sureau (Prairie Organic Vodka, St. Germain, lavender simple syrup, grapefruit juice) and a Jack Rose (Laird's Applejack, house grenadine, lemon juice). Loved them both.
