Reviews of Jax Cafe
Queen San
This was my first visit. I went for brunch with a group of friends. The place sits on the corner of a busy intersection, but there is a (free) parking lot across which was nice.
They offer a decent amount things on the menu for brunch, and their drink menu is nice as well. Sadly I was not too impressed with the food. I ordered the prime rib hash, and there was hardly any prime rib in it. The fried green tomatoes were bland, and had this thick breading on them.
The service was decent, we had a woman named Sheila, and a guy named Mark (I think). They kept the mimosas coming, and checked on us often take sure things were going well.
They have an outdoor patio which is beautifully set up! It wasn't the nicest weather so we did not sit outside.

Omg the outdoor seating area is beautiful! The food was good and nice service. The indoor seating area had some beautiful stained glass - but it has a weird smell. Smells “old”. Would definitely go back, but maybe not sit inside.

I was talking to somebody at a party while I was here, and they had been here at the same restaurant in 1965. It’s a staple, it’s right out of a time warp and it’s still completely lovely. If you’re looking for something a little bit fabulous, yet low-key enough to just wear jeans- you found it! Perfect for a nightcap, or bringing a date to a quiet booth.

Our group of friends has been going to Jax for about 10 years. Until the need for their latest interior renovation, we used the front group seating area and it has been idea. This time, it was beautiful weather and we fit in on the back patio. We were in the shade under an overhead cover and near the restaurant’s back entrance. We enjoyed the exceptional view of their gardens. So full of color! And nice to walk around and view the flowerpots up close after we ate.
While Jax sits on the corner of a busy intersection, ample parking is available in the lot just across on the eastside. And that keeps you out of the faster traffic on University Ave when crossing the street to eat.
They offer a nice variety on the menu for brunch and dinners. Several in our party are pleased with their drink menu. The food is consistently good. I ordered the prime rib hash, and there was hardly any prime rib in it. The fried green tomatoes are delightful – a fun way to eat your vegetables. The Classic Eggs Benedict is excellent, as is the Prime Rib, Au Jus. When it comes to salads, I highly recommend their Berries and Fried Goat Cheese Salad.
This summer they seem to be a bit short on staff – like just about everyone. They were good at refilling coffee and mimosas. We really enjoyed the Sunday buffets they once held. The spread and staff were truly exceptional.
I recommend that you sit on the outdoor patio if weather permits!

Classic place, have been going for ages. The Christmas decorations in the patio were beautiful. Food was pretty decent. We had the salmon, prime rib, perogi, roasted tomatoes and goat cheese, creme brulee, and key lime pie. Service was decent, food was decent. Will return

Very clean, not too crowded (yet) for celebrating early mother's day on Saturday with jax signature specialized matches. Putting rib and hashbrowns are Excellent I suggest the turtle cheesecake

I hosted the May Brown Skin Brunchin' for the Minneapolis Chapter @ JAX Cafe. From making reservations through the end my experience was pleasant. We enjoyed the ambiance, service and food and the fellowship of sisterhood.

We had our dinner on the patio. We were back in a corner so it was quiet and more private. The patio was beautiful. A perfect evening. We both had the fillet mignon. Cooked perfectly. We had the au gratin potatoes & loaded baked potato. Easy to get to. Plenty of parking.

Quite an outstanding and enjoyable experience, through and through!
We started off by meeting our lovely waitress, Cyndy, who made us feel at home immediately.
Shortly after, we ordered beverages and appetizers, which consisted of Pierogi's and Shrimp Cocktail - both were outstanding and delicious (if you're into pierogi's, you'll love these).
Afterwards, we decided on dinner items - we picked the following: Rainbow Trout (which we caught ourselves by the mini river located in their outdoor dining area (super fun and unique experience). Other items we chose included the smothered ribeye w/sauteed mushrooms and onions on a bed of crispy hash browns, and the King cut prime rib.
Everything we ate was absolutely spectacular, prepared exactly how we requested, and was served wonderfully.
The staff here are the best - truly enjoy what they do, make you feel at home, and create a welcoming experience.
For dessert, we had the bread pudding and Chocolate cake (Bailey's Irish cream and more included) - delectable and supremely delicious.
Can't say enough about Jax Cafe - we will definitely be back, and are very happy we went!
