We had such an amazing experience celebrating my husband's birthday! The food was outstanding, we highly recommend the pork chops, red beans and dirty rice, corn bread, shrimp...we recommend it all! They were extremely busy and our server was busting her butt, yet extremely friendly and have great recommendations. You must try the fried bananas for dessert! (They tasted so good I forgot to take a photo!) We're already planning our next visit.

Is there a better restaurant in all of the land? No, there isn't. JD Hoyt's is it. Crab cakes are amazing, full of crab and little to no breading. Cheese bread is devourable. Pork chops are unreal. Literally everything we've ever ordered is fantastic. The drinks are perfect. The service is on point. You literally can't go wrong with Hoyt's.

I had a dinner here for my brother's 50th birthday. We reserved the back room and had excellent service the entire evening. The servers were very accomodating and Pat, the owner is wonderful. My family has had many gatherings here at J.D. Hoyt's for years and they never cease to amaze.

This place was nice with a beautiful atmosphere. It can get loud but people were enjoying themselves. The food was delicious and plentiful. The surrounding felt fitting. The prices were reasonable and drinks were very good. No dress code so you can come as you are. We will definitely make this a staple for ourselves.

Spent $120 celebrating a special day. Lobster Tail 🦞 was great! I requested it with No seasoning & that was wonderful. Crab Cakes 🦀 were yummy, but I wish I would of asked for the hollandaise sauce on the side. I opted for the veggy medley with L Tail as I assumed it would be a generous portion & I was satisfied. My hubby ordered the $20 Kobi burger 🍔, he liked it but I thought the meat smelled peculiar! I gave him back the tiny piece he tried sharing with me. I had a whiskey alternative Mocktail with no bitters & hubby had the bread pudding to-go, not pictured here. Part of the best part of the meal was meeting the owner during a brief meet & greet when he stopped by to our table.

Great Restaurant... would go out of my way to dine here again... great food, great service, great atmosphere... Pork Chops were the highlight. I had the Salmon with Scallops - cooked perfectly!!! Pasta was good... use valet parking - worth it!!!

In a time where you can get lost in “the troubles” of the world it’s amazing to try a new place and be truly acknowledged as a person with taste buds lol ! I have Truly found my favorite spot in MINNESOTA. I highly recommend the Jamaican spice on anything especially those onion rings - GRATEFUL FOR YOUR RECIPES!

If you're a meat and potatoes person this is your place. Pork chops are HUGE. One pork chop is plenty for the average person. Buddy bowl was great! Use the valet parking - It's $10. Service/host was fantastic. The whole restaurant and food feels like your dining at your grandparents - which if that's what you're looking for you'll love it. But personally I wish I would have went elsewhere for dinner - not my style.

We always love coming to J.D. Hoyt’s! The service is top notch. Everyone is always so friendly, which makes the entire dining experience super enjoyable. Great cocktails as well. A buddy bowl with scallops and their amazing garlic cheesy bread is always a must!

First time to Minneapolis. Went with a group on recommendation of local colleague. Enjoyed the food. Wish I could have tried everything on the menu, but I had the Crab Corn Chowder and the Lobster Risotto. Let me not forget the cornbread. Enjoyed the service. Enjoyed the hospitality. Enjoyed the entire atmosphere.

Been coming to JD Hoyts since I was a little kid! I'm 37 now and still love the food here. You can never go wrong with the classic surf n' turf, but I also recommend their buddy bowl (add catfish trust me), their pork chop (always flavorful and tender), cheese bread, and chocolate cake... which sounds basic, but I assure you, it most definitely is not. :)

I've had good food here and service but not on my last visit. Stopped for a nightcap around 11pm after a show at the Dakota. Sat at the bar for a martini, $19 per top shelf vodka... choke! The drinks from the previous customers were never removed by the bartender. We moved them ourselves. Not a very welcoming greeting either. Not sure they were shaken over ice as both martinis were room temp. Olives dropped in without a toothpick. If you're gonna charge top dollar for drinks at least make an effort. No matter the time of night. Bar staff were more concerned about cleaning up to close and eating their dinner. I know JDH is better than this but it will make me think twice about going back soon. Overall, not a great experience. Unfortunate

Best pork chops in the Midwest no question. Easily a contender for best in the nation. The menu is excellent and the staff is second to none. If you are downtown mpls and looking for a classy joint with amazing food, then look no further!

Best places I've been to in years. It's spendy, but worth it. First time I've been there, and we ordered multiple things off the menu to try as much as possible. Everything was fantastic. Including the place itself and the staff. Definitely recommend for a fancy night out.

Love this place👍 One point, they charge $5 to split a meal, all fine, but they merely brought an empty plate and made us do all the splitting. Not hard but likelihood of spilling was likely. Most places do not charge and do all the splitting before coming to the table. Thus the lower service score.

Always a great experience. Food is amazing if you're into Cajun. Steaks and chops are delicious. The desserts... If you like bread pudding, don't miss it here. Service is good. Not super fancy, a bit more casual than other chop houses but great atmosphere and food. Do valet. Not a ton of parking close.

I come in to Minneapolis for work and I do come often. This place is a local favorite for awesome family style meals. First and foremost set some expectations. The first and most important one is that you will come here hungry and the second one is that you will order the pork chops. Now the Buddy bowls are great we do them all the time but they are not for everyone if you are hungry then order one for the table and share it. But the pork chops are where it's at. They are huge almost 3 inches thick with the bone in and they are cooked perfectly every time. The drink selection is OK, we normally order wine for the table so I cannot talk about the beer selection of this place. Bottom line if you are in town and you don't want to be tourist stop in and enjoy a great meal with service that is equally great.

Great service ... Fantastic fire grilled chops. The cheese bread is over hyped. The jambalaya is very good, but seems to be halfway in between a southern chili and jambalaya.... which isn't bad per se. The chop was very good but a little over cooked, and could've used more Cajun spice. Overall great dining experience though. Would definitely go back.

Update: Still great!! Just had them last night and it was perfection! Humble and delicious home town stable! I've been going here the last 9 years throughout my life and career and the bar tender has never forgotten me! I ordered last night for the first time in a few years and everything was even better than I remembered! Definitely a wonderful place for us locals and I would recommend to anyone!

The steak was very good, but for the same price there are other nice places to get a steak like Murray’s and The Capital Grille. Both have more upscale interiors. So the value is a little suspect.

The place is a bit loud, because it was so busy! A good sign, in my opinion, as this was our first time here. The food was phenomenal and our server Annie was an absolute gem. We will be coming back for sure!!!

Delightful ambiance of the late 40's. Portion sizes were perfect. We tried the World Famous Buddy Bowl it was delicious. My husband and I split the Grilled Cajun Pork Chops which were huge. We probably could have split on chop because neither of us finished our meal. Also as a side we ordered the Cajun Hash Browns which were seasoned to perfection. Our party was 7 and we were able to receive our food in a very tumult fashion. Anny May was an amazing server. She made us feel welcome and eager to come back soon.

I have not been to JD hoyts in about 8 years we used to go after we got off work at centurylink go by there for a bite to eat and go around the corner for drinks I thought they had really good chicken wings from back in the day I just went there a couple of days ago and got the pork chop dinner I've never had it before. Let me tell you those pork chops are like rhinoceros chops. I only needed one because my husband does not eat pork so it took me 2 days to eat it but I'm gonna tell you right now those are the best chops I've ever had in my life, a little thick for me but it was worth it. It was almost like eating ribs you knew you were getting a lot of meat and it was juicy like ribs and the seasoning was phenomenal. I'm gonna try to get my husband down there so we can have dinner and have drinks. The drinks looked good. Very nice bartender you have to go to the bar to get your take out.

Vaping with three vapes at the same time is a mistake. Bill Clinton once ripped three vapes at the same time and was quoted saying, "That was too much for this country boy." Bolivia has outlawed grippin and rippin the triad vape life. If caught ripping three vapes in Bolivia, you will be fined $10 pesos and sent to an 8 hour "only one vape" jail. Just remember what you've been told here if you ever decide to rip three vapes.

The best Ribeye I have ever had hands down. Loaded hash browns were on point. Drinks were good as well. The asparagus was perfectly done with a great buttery flavor that was perfect to the end. A must try.

Fantastic Dine-in experience for a number of reasons. What stands out to me the most is the enthusiasm, knowledge and service our waiter DJ provided. He was so knowledgeable about the menu and the way dishes were prepared. We enjoyed his company and followed his dish recommendations. We finished our meal feeling so impressed by the level of service we received. The food was great. The pork chop and bread pudding stood out to me the most. The chop is super thick juicy and cooked to perfection. The bread pudding comes in a huge family portion and isn’t too sweet. Cozy family dine in experience that I would want to share with my family.

Mobile app said they were booked but we stopped in to double check. They got us a table for two and we were very glad. Food was phenomenal. Ribs were tender, fall off the bone with a great raspberry flavoring. Scallops and vegetables were perfectly seasoned and clam chowder was delicious. Service from Xavier was spot on. Great experience at a reasonable price.

I decided a while back that I’d never leave anyone a negative review. That was before this place set the bar impossibly HIGH! You truly get what you pay for, and I mean you do pay for it: they had my favorite beer on tap. My favorite scotch, second shelf. I was dead-set on a steak, but I was talked into the chops. Half the price, nearly double the meat. Perfectly cooked too! I’ve paid quite a bit more to eat in Minneapolis, but never gotten this value. I haven’t even gotten to the ambiance and overall vibe of this place, but I’m already getting too wordy. See for yourself. Check these guys out!

An all-time favorite Minneapolis restaurant that never disappoints. Skillfully grilled steaks, chops and seafood that are always exceptional. The buddy bowl with catfish is a “must share” pre-entree menu item. Throw in excellent service and a great city location and you have a 5 star Minneapolis experience.

5 stars because...service was on point and we came at 4pm on Saturday with a Reservation beforehand. Food was good, SUPER OVER PRICED FOOD. Wait-staff and cook-staff were great. The owner came to our table and chatted with us. Would not have known if he was the owner if I didn't ask him if he's the sous chef and why he's asking me how the food is lol. Feels like a family place, fancy albiet expensive. Is come back again for sure.

Excellent as always. Top of the line customer service from ownership and staff, astonishing atmosphere and layout. Perfect portions and pairings. One of my favorite eats in the cities. The open char pit grill is phenomenal, watch your steak being cooked to perfection before chowing down.

What a great spot in Minneapolis... a true supper club! Excellent service from the Saturday evening bar-staff. Sat on the backside of the bar for a nice view of the front bar & dining room. Great crowd and vibe. Drinks were solid and the later-evening eats were perfect... Lobster Risotto & a well portioned Chicken Caesar salad with side of vegetables. Excellent flavors and presentation! Will def be back when I visit the area again...

This is one of the best places to go in downtown Mpls. A long time supper club in the heart of a big city. You can't miss on any food or drinks, everything is great! And the atmosphere...awesome! Our favorite spot to sit is part way in the restaurant, but the seats are at the bar. The bartender has to reach up to, it's a great spot.

We came in from out of town and happened to be 2.5 hours early for our reservation. Our party of three stopped in any way to see if they might have anything available. The hostess did everything he could but they were totally booked which was perfectly fine with us, totally understood. The owner came over and went above and beyond to find us a table on which he did. That in itself sets it apart from most restaurants. The food was wonderful and service second to none.

I've been a visitor to JD Hoyt's since the mid-80's. The neighborhood around Hoyt's has changed over the years, but the restaurant has been a model of stability. It's long had a reputation for good service, good food and great pork chops, arguably the best in the Twin Cities. It's not the most expensive restaurant in the North Loop, but it's also not a bar with bad food. This was my first time at Hoyt's in a couple of years. The good - the place still looks the same (in a good way...clean..well maintained), the buddy bowl is still fantastic (a mandatory selection if you are going to Hoyt's), my pork chop was really good, and there were several familiar faces manning the bar and the front desk who were super friendly as usual. The bad - a couple of my fellow diners noted that the ribs were overdone, one of the drinks at our table wasn't mixed correctly, and the service was slow. When we saw the server, she was great. It was just we didn't see her much. We suspected that her coverage area was a good chunk of the restaurant. I'm going to write this off as a one time event - I suspect the restaurant is ramping back up to a post-COVID world, and it was an off night. This experience was out of place given the 30+ years I've been coming here. Recommended - but with a caveat that we experienced an off night, and I'm not sure if that's a trend or not.

Overall it was excellent!! We stopped in while in town for a conference and J.D.'s was fantastic all around. The service was fantastic. Our servers recommendations were great and the pork chops and steaks we're amazing. The Buddy Bowl was a perfect appetizer for 3 of us and certainly worth it. The valet parking made it very easy to get in and out. Great service and food all around!!

We had a sweet waitress, but the service was slow for a party of about 10. Breakfast buffet is served family style, which is unique. Meat served was pork chops, sausage, both were overcooked and eggs were cold when it came time to eat after everything arrived. It wasn't busy by any means, just poor choreographing. Not $20.00 worth of quality food. I probably won't visit this place in the future for food since this was my first experience. Do make your own judgement though. You may have an awesome experience.

Excellent food! Been a little over a year since I last went. We only go here for special occasions. I think the crab corn chowder recipe has changed. Everything else was pretty top notch as usual.

We came in for Mothers Day and had the entire back room to ourself. The waiters did a great job dealing with a large party and the two kids we had with us that were being a little fussy. The male and female waiter we had both handled it great. We had a little issue with our food and had to get the manager/owner involved but he quickly took care of the situation. Also, I ordered a gluten free bun and the gentleman that was our waiter was attiment on making sure that my bun was gluten free. He even double cecked it for me when he brought it to the table. He also asked my boyfriend to please make sure to tell me that the bread sticks were NOT gluten free when he brought them and I was at the restroom. I really appreciate him being so thoughtful and really going out of his way to make sure I was safe. Our waiters were good and the layout was nice too. But for the price, the food quality could be improved a bit.

So, all I can say about this place is...amazing. The owner, Pat, is the most personable person you'll meet. On your second visit there I promise you that he'll remember you from your first visit. The bartender, Sara, is the sweetest gal I've met. This place has amazing food, a friendly staff, and is an institution in the North Loop. I've been going here regularly since 2011 and I can't say enough good things (I'm surprised I never reviewed them before now) but this is a go to place for locals in the neighborhood and out of towners. Classic music (I'm talking Motown to Sinatra), generous portions, friendly service, valet parking, and good company in fellow guests. Go here. You'll like it.

By far the largest pork chop I have ever eaten, and it was prepared correctly. The mixed vegetables were over-steamed, but still had good flavor. As for sides, I went with garlic mashed potatoes. The garlic mashed potatoes were delicious, albeit the dish is hard to screw up. The ambiance is busy, with 80’s era art. Service was wonderful, knowledgeable, and fast. All-in-all, this was a very appetizing and pricey dinner.

Always a favorite spot. Had the buddy bowl and with shrimp and grilled cajun catfish. Every thing was yummy! Our favorite is the grilled prime rib, but we tried something different this time, glad we did. Service is always friendly and professional. Love this place!

Honestly, I don't know what took me so long to eat here. No one in my circle really talks about it or goes here. The food, service, vibe, everything about it I loved. The bartender greeted me with a smile and gave me some tips about what to order. I was meeting a few friends and we haven't been together in years. Needless to say we lost track of time at the bar and the hostess never once rushed us to our table. We all ordered the pork chops and they were incredible!! I read 13oz weight total, they are 13oz each! They had a wonderful char on them and we're thick and juicy. I'm already craving them and will be back soon!

Went here for a date night, we really enjoyed! Decent price for a bottle of champagne. Steak was excellent as well as the swordfish and lobster tail. I really liked the fact that it felt private, there was a glass barrier between booths so that your neighbor couldn’t just look right over! We will return!

Stopped in for dinner last night and it was packed. In just a few minutes I was able to sit at the bar. That was my preference since I generally travel alone. Sarah, the bartender, was phenomenal. She gave me great recommendations and checked on me regularly. She was amazing and made me feel like I wasn't eating alone. My steak was awesome, cooked to perfection. Asparagus and the cheese bread were delicious. The only knock I could give was the hashbrowns were bland. But it made no difference, it was a great experience. I'll be back and I hope Sarah is there. I'm at one of her other recommendations tonight and she was spot on again!

Wow this place was amazing. We each ordered a house specialty, got an addictive cheese-bread appetizer that took effort to keep our hands off of, and my mixed bourbon drink was really, really good. There are fun décor elements such as animal art composed of 'found objects' and both the staff and the management took an interest in making sure we had a good time.

We started with appetizers. They were great! Our choices for our group to share were a cheese potato, corn bread, and catfish pieces. All were delicious. We could have stopped there as they were more than filling. Our group includes steaks and pork chops. they come with various choices of sauces to accompany the meat. This was nice addition to the meal. We didn't leave room for the deserts which all looked good.

This restaurant has been a favorite of mine since the 90's. The food is always seasoned well, HH drinks specials are fantastic, and the atmosphere is both fun with a large group and can be intimate with just a few. I always receive excellent customers service. I recently visited with a large group from work. Melissa was our server. She was extremely attentive, accomidating, and always had a smile on her face.

Solid 4 stars, we ate here for our anniversary dinner and the food was pretty good. I'm not sure it was quite on the level we were expecting for the price, but we don't have any other complaints. It was pretty busy when we stopped in so the waitress forgot my drink but comped it to make amends, so no harm done. On the up side, the portions were generous and the Bees Knees drink is great. I had pork chops and chicken, which was pretty good but could have used more seasoning. Atmosphere is great and even with the place being packed we still felt like it was an intimate setting. Bottom line: I'm not sure I'd recommend it over other nearby places as we don't know the area, but our experience wasn't bad.

The food is always fantastic. We have dined in and we often times place carry out orders as well. The Buddy Bowl is my all time favorite and the Wedge Salad is delicious. Special acknowledgment to Will, he took my order tonight over the phone and was very pleasant to talk with as well as effective. I always appreciate when the take out order is read back to me before we finish up to ensure that we were on the same page. Thank you Will!

Lavender magazine had one of their events there tonight called First Thursdays. The restaurant was serving free appetizers and then a cash bar on the patio. The staff and the owner were constantly checking on everybody and the food was amazing. I would highly recommend this restaurant. We will certainly be back.

I go to JD Hoyt's for two things: Great service and good food. I've always liked the food there and, having worked in a few restaurants, I know that's the biggest deal for me. The food is competitive with the better restaurants around and the great service makes the meal better...every time. The surroundings are pretty good, too, and mostly in line with what you're paying...some may find it a little dated, others may say it's old school, comfortable. I always have fun at the bar, talking with a few of the local characters and it seems like there's always a new one there! Definitely a part of the history of Minneapolis, in an area that's undergone a lot of change recently. I like that JD Hoyt's has held on to its past so nicely.

First time here. When you first arrive you just pull up and valet takes care of you. The atmosphere inside is great, it feels 5 star but its very relaxed. Dont expect a cheap meal though. That being said, the food was amazing! I will be back.

Great service on the patio during brunch before a Twins game! We loved the Cajun Hashbrowns, eggs were done over medium perfectly as requested, corn bread is delicious. I'm sad they use disposable, single use plastic cups for water on the patio when they served our cocktails in glass and each table has a glass candle holder. Hopefully they recycle?

My experience at J.D. Hoyt's was truly "THE BEST". I was given a very warm greeting from Will , the bartender, after taking a seat at the bar. He offered some great suggestions and went off the menu to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. For dinner, I ordered the Cajun burger with sweet potato fries (no sugar)...nothing short of AMAZING! The burger was oozing with flavor and just the right amount of kick. The fries were thinly cut and crunchy - exactly the way I like them! Although it was not busy, I was surrounded by several "locals" who were very welcoming and offered great suggestions on other places to visit during my stay. THANK YOU!

Hoyt's is a place that is reminiscent of what a supper club used to be about. Classic drinks. Classic meals. Waitstaff that know to set the plate down in front of you, not hand it to you. Bartenders that make a proper drink, not some boozy monstrosity. A manager who is always happy to talk to you and treat you like a friend. Food that has flavor and taste. Not a chef's vision. This is a place that is excellent to go to!

One word for the prime rib, amazing. The restaurant had an old-timey steakhouse feel to it. It had what appeared to be booths in a 1960 dress, polite wait staff wearing white and black uniforms, and paper table tops like any good steakhouse typically uses. The prices were very reasonable too, stop in I'm sure you won't regret it.

Whilst I understand that the barkeep is more monetarily invested in their customers comfort level/ tab 1st & for most, then servers 2nd, & then hang arounds. Can't blame 'em, They are there to make money after all. ) ZERO Complaints beyond that otherwise, or it would be 5 stars all the way. My boyfriend and I ended up here by accident one night as the place we originally intended to go to was too busy.. that was over two years ago and since then we have to get our Hoyt fix at least once every two months now. I can't believe I have lived here my whole life and waited this long to try it. We make it our place for special occasions..birthdays, Valentine's Day, ect.. The food is to DIE for. We usually order the filet mignon, scallops, or halibut, an order of mashed potatoes or hashbrowns which are enough for 3 to 4 people. Last time we tried the banana dessert and it was unbelievable! The cheescake is good too. I love the fact that it has an upscale classy feel but its not in any way pretentious. I always feel comfortable here and the staff is always very welcoming no matter how late you arrive to have dinner. We just love it here and plan to dine here for many more years ahead.
