Charming little gem very much worth the wait! The atmosphere was cozy with cute decor scattered throughout the space. Their wonderful menu made it difficult to choose just one dish so my husband and I shared several dishes.
It was very busy when we went and yet our server was always on top of checking in on us with a warm, pleasant demeanor. I should also mention that during our wait to be seated we were able to enjoy the outdoor patio and pergola.
The food definitely lived up to our expectations! We can't wait to return with family and friends in the future!

Visiting from out of area- outstanding breakfast spot! Very cozy- decor took me back to my youth with the amber grapes, hundreds of those large eyed figurines from gift store and paint by numbers. Food and service were fantastic- air fried home fries!! Son had caramel apple French toast and I had Eggs Benedict done to perfection

Loved the colourful quirky decor in this warm and friendly cafe. The homemade corned beef hash was probably the best I've eaten in 20 years of travelling the USA. My server Virginia was lovely and took time to engage in conversation with me. Prices are reasonable and the food and experience memorable for all the right reasons.

Great, unsuspecting place for breakfast/brunch/lunch with unique decor. I got a scramble while my girlfriend had the breakfast sandwich. The pecan pancake was the best pancake I’ve had anywhere in a loooong time. Highly recommend. Breakfast sandwich was good as well and the portions were hearty.
I’d give this place 5 stars, but there’s an added credit card fee on every bill before you pay. The server confirmed if I paid cash the charge would be removed. I paid cash and was still charged the fee. The restaurant needs to change this practice or at least stop putting credit card fees on every bill prior to payment.

Been living nearby for 4 years and today was the day I checked this spot out! Parking on Bloomington Ave was okay but had to walk a little ways. I ordered the biscuits and wild rice gravy! Comes with eggs and potatoes! Lots of good food! Coffee was just okay but the server was very attentive and came by frequently to check on me! They accept cards and cash which is nice for a small neighborhood diner! Be prepared to show vaccination card and have a mask when you arrive! The decor is interesting not a big fan of it but the amazing soul music playing is very pleasant! I will be back again soon! Prices are good and a lot of food!

The food was delicious. The atmosphere is super eclectic and fun. The service is a bit slow and there was a long wait. They were extremely busy, but it was an amazing experience.

What more is there to say besides excellent food, excellent portions, excellent service at reasonable prices.
Ok, fine. There's more to say. On a Saturday @ 9:30am, expect a good 30 minute wait, but it'll be worth your time. *See above about stuff that's excellent*
Interior is.... interesting. Very eclectic. Unique. Different. But that's all a part of the charm and character of the place.
Manny S. was an exceptional server. Attentive and courteous and apologetic for swapping our two couple's bills. Maybe multiple times 😅 Give him a raise.
Only small complaint that brings it to a high 4 is that at least two of the plates came out only luke warm. But it was delicious enough that we still scarfed down most of the food.
Highly recommend everyone check this place out.

I've been wanting to try this place for a while and it was really good.
The place is very cute in a nice neighborhood. We parked on the street.
I ordered their daily special scramble and it was great, their potatoes were crisp outside, soft inside and the seasoning was delicious. The toast waz very good too. My husband ordered the poutine and he had loved it.
The portions were pretty large and we took leftovers home. Their coffee was pretty good too.
Service was on point and we had our waters topped at all times and coffee refills.
We will be back to try some different dishes for sure.
Bonus - they are located 4 mins from Lake Nokomis and we went for a nice walk right after breakfast.

A MUST everytime we go to Mall of America/Minneapolis. We go for breakfast every single time we take a trip with the kids to this place. Breakfasts is so darn good and not pricey at all. I usually get their Ham & cheese omelet and my wife gets their Carnitas plate. Both are so good! Never disappoints! Definitely a place to go eat breakfast if you are in town. Small place in the middle of a neighborhood so don't get nervous when driving to it. Lol... It gets busy really fast so try and get there when it opens if possible.

Great find. Trendy atmosphere and good food. They add a surcharge for using credit/debit cards - otherwise they’d get 5 stars. Not a big deal, but that 1 extra star is my surcharge.
If the owner reply’s to justify the charge - “cool story.”

Great atmosphere. Home-cooked taste. Nice Vibe. My son ordered the Pumpkin Waffle and I ordered The Bloomington which is scrambled eggs, Asiago cheese and bacon on sourdough bread. Not usually a fan of sourdough but I thoroughly enjoyed this meal.

Very popular place nestled in a neighborhood. The food was good, served warm and in an appetizing way. The decor was fun evoking memories of growing up and seeing lots of paint by numbers, various lamps and giant forks and spoons made out of plaster of Paris. A good variety of people of all ages and ethnicity were happy and getting fueled for the day. Then came my bill. An extra 3% tacked on for using my card. Had I known I would have paid cash. I didn't know there was a base sticker charge for the meal plus gratuity plus bank charges. It was fun, but the surprise will keep me from coming back

We sought out Hot Plate after we got a tip from the parking valet at our hotel. On Labor Day 2021 we must have lucked out, no wait for us. Not the same story for those who came later. The line inside and out was long. This eclectic little neighborhood diner was a GREAT choice. We shared a Caramelized Pecan Roll followed by the Mexican Omelette and the The Bloomington, a fancy breakfast sandwich. Both were very good. The omelette was loaded with chorizo, cheese and onion. The breakfast sandwich was stacked with bacon and eggs. I’m not usually a fan of breakfast potatoes but the were perfect. From the decor, the atmosphere and the food, Hot Plate is definitely FIVE stars.

Enjoyed the breakfast I had here
Pros
- delicious food (all basic American breakfast) [forgot to take photos sad]
- decor is interesting
- nice staff
Cons
- wait was quite long ( gave us a 30 minute estimated wait, ended up being slightly over 40 minutes)
- cups and plates are cafeteria level

We came in on a Friday morning and we were seated right away. Loved the kitschy vibe and unique decor. For food, I had Eggs Benedict and my wife had Huevos Divorciadios. Both were great, although the eggs Benedict went a little heavy on the Hollandaise. Not a dealbreaker, as they were high quality and the eggs were poached perfectly.
Overall it lived up to positive reviews and I would recommend it for a really good breakfast option.
Chris Atkinson
I feel that you can always tell if a place has quality food based on their pancakes, and these were amazing!!! I will also recommend getting a mimosa because they are some of the best I’ve had in the whole city!
Lawrence Rodrigue
First time visitors. Family was impressed. Had to wait 5-10mins to be seated on a busy saturday morning. We willl be back again. Thanks!
James Kim
Little disappointed with the food and service. My dish was warm not hot. The waiter was flirting with some girls and was totally unattentative.
Liz vM
Cute little diner with very friendly staff and yummy food. I can’t remember where our waitress said the owner is from but she mentioned several homemade dishes and original recipes - just ask your server and they will let you know! We had the special of the day, a blueberry pancake, and the Bloomington sandwich. The special was a veggie scramble with very good breakfast potatoes! The pancake was delicious but was supper buttery so be warned if you don’t like a rich buttery taste. The Bloomington was very good but was your typical breakfast sandwich with a hint of sweetness. They had vegetarian options but unfortunately no vegan or GF options. There was a wait when we arrived at 11 on a Sunday but it was short and they had a nice seating area outside.

Hot Plate was my first experience is Minnesota. I had an amazing breakfast and nice coffee.
The staff were nice and place decoration was amazing.
Crap Phone
Had the corned beef hash and it was wonderful. Good Large pieces of flavorful corned beef in a rustic mix of potatoes, onions well seasoned. Had the blueberry pancake on the side that was light fluffy and came with real blueberries. Add to this cheerful staff, a happy vibe, families and people on their way to work all enjoying a good breakfast, and you have a great place to eat. The icing on the proverbial cake is the decor, which I can only describe as mid-century eclectic with an emphasis on mid century folk art. Highly recommended if you want a hearty breakfast in an upbeat place that will leave you full until well after lunch, and more importantly will taste great.

Went here and I loved the ham mixed with bell peppers its a really small place especially the tables when I order for 3 it didn't really fit the plate son table

This place is amazing! The food is wonderful, the staff is great and friendly! The decorations are peasant and fun also!!
Hunter Ruth
Impossible to take an appetizing photo of anything with gravy, but this is some of the best poutine in the Twin Cities. The pancake was great too.
Kyle Sheppard
Awesome place to go for breakfast. The staff is genuinely friendly the moment you walk in the door. Very unique menu choices with cool decor. Great coffee and food. Can't wait to bring the family back.
Dirk Niles
Hot Plate is really great! Their omelettes, bacon and caramel apple French Toast are good, but the pancakes and potatoes are simply extraordinary! We've never been there before, but plenty of others have been because parking wasn't easy and there was a healthy wait for a table. So give yourself time - it's worth the wait!

If you are like me, you love to sleep in on Sunday then roll out of bed before Noon and meet friends for bunch. I have several favorite spots at home in Northern California where I live, but I’m traveling this summer and often have difficulty finding the the perfect brunch spot. I’m happy to say that today the search ended at Hot Plate in Minneapolis! This is now, hands down, my favorite brunch spot in Twin Cities!
My go to brunch item is Blueberry pancakes (side of powdered sugar no syrup) these were excellent. I couldn’t stop there (yes, I over-ordered), I had to try the biscuits and gravy as I had read the biscuits and gravy were very good, no disappointment, I would knock them up against Surry’s Cafe in New Orleans.

Finally, one last thing to mention, I’m often disappointed with breakfast potatoes. Hot Plate nailed them, they serve, golden, crispy, perfectly salted potatoes which taste like a potato and not soggy or mushy cardboard.
If you haven’t been to Hot Plate check it out, I hope you like it as much as I do.
Chirantan Kanani
Really nice brunch / lunch place! Good food, great service, homely decor. Slightly cramped for space but enough to enjoy comfortably. Few vegetarian options, but very few vegan options. They do offer to customize some of the items on the menu. Would definitely recommend checking it out.

Kitchsy, funky decor offsets the really good breakfast food I had. I had corned beef hash with poached egg and whole wheat toast. Priced at $13, it seemed a little steep, but the ingredients were fresh and the prep was fantastic. The sole dining area staff was friendly and attentive.
Looks like they're dining at about half capacity right now inside. There is a little outdoor dining. Parking on the street only. Hours are a little odd; from 8am-1pm most days.

This is a very unique place. If you like something out of the ordinary in a cozy setting but busy atmosphere, this place needs to be on your list. I am guessing the decor is 70s art deco as that is the only theme I can identify. It was hopping when we got there. We had a 40 minute wait. Staff was friendly but it seemed they had trouble keeping up with all the tables. Perhaps this is due to everyone struggling to staff their businesses these days so this might not be the norm of their service. Even with the table service being very slow they still had a great attitude and was very nice.
Amy M
Tasty, cute, quirky, simple. It can get really crowded and a bit overwhelming on weekends but I had brunch recently on a Thursday and it was quiet and very pleasant. Great coffee! Nice staff!
Rachel Gall
Adorable and tasty. Killer neighborhood spot or a destination for out of towners
Amy Quinn
Good menu with a variety of items, both entrees were decent portion, good quality. Waitress was friendly and helpful, decorations keep you entertained. I will be back to try the other pancakes.
Gabriel Ruckman
If you order online make sure you call ahead to confirm that the pickup time is accurate! I ordered a breakfast sandwich and after I submitted my order it took one hour for a single breakfast sandwich which I had to wait for! I saw people waiting to be seated that ate, and left before I could acquire my single breakfast sandwich to go!
Mike Feldmeier
Got a table immediately. Nice staff, large menu. A lot going on in a smallish place. Interesting decor. More than enough to eat. Good way to start the day. I will be back

Just arrived in Minneapolis yesterday and we are staying in the neighborhood. Although, there was a busy Sunday breakfast rush, we got a good table and the service was very friendly. The ambience quaint, comfy, and homey, the food super!
Dean Valentine
Awesome Breakfast spot in Minneapolis. Started with the pecan carmel roll and had the breakfast poutine. Substituted a pancake for toast. Big fluffy flapjacks that are on point. Highly recommend if you are in the area. Cannot wait to visit again.
Craig S
Great place for a good comfort breakfast. Prices were good. Service was great, even after a huge rush arrived after us. Will be coming back.
Brittany Payntar
Decided to try this place out after leaving great wolf lodge. The pictures had me sold. So in the snow we trucked on through and made it to this cozy little spot in town. We sat right away. The waitress/possibly owner was very quick to the table and very kind. The hot chocolate took a little time to come out but my daughter still enjoyed it very much! Our food came out quick and was delicious. The decor was unique and cute. I likely won't ever be in that area but definitely recommend it!

This is a lovely breakfast place 🍳 🥞 It was my first time visit and I’m really impressed 🥰The place is decorated with several types of dolls and paintings 🖼 which makes the ambience super nice. We ordered Eggs Benedict, Pumpkin Buckwheat Waffle, Mexican Omelet and we loved all of them. The taste, quantity and quality of food was perfect. I will definitely recommend this place to everyone.
Maroof Alam
Warm and hip-like ambience and great food. The staff were very pleasant and the service was timely. Flew in from Boston in the morning and headed straight here for breakfast with colleagues.

This is our first time here and all I have to say is "wow", by far one of the best breakfast I've ever had. We ordered the "Bloomington" breakfast sandwich and the caramel apple French toast. The sandwich portion is super generous - it easily feeds 2 people; I'm about average build and I could barely finish one of the halves. I'd say there's atleast 3 eggs used in the sandwich and it's stuffed with maybe 4 slices of bacon with plenty of cheese. My favorite part about the sandwich is the bread - perfect amount of chewiness and tasted like it was baked earlier in the morning! The French toast was also phenomenal - first time I had French toast that hit "spot-on" in the chewiness and sweetness department. I only live 10 minutes away so I've now discovered my go-to breakfast joint!

We stopped here for a breakfast on our way to Duluth. The ambience is really unique. We took Eggs Benedict, Waffles and Caramelized Pecan Pancakes. I personally recommend Eggs Benedict! It was amazing!! Would definitely stop by next time I’m around.

I was nothing but impressed with everything I had at Hot Plate. I'd tell anyone that it's the food you get from a diner but better. We had a scramble, chicken fried steak and a breakfast burrito. Everything was unique considering I've eaten those dishes hundreds of times. I highly recommend Hot Plate if you're in the area.
Lincoln Rus
Exactly what you want from a local diner experience! Way to much happening on the walls, different light fixtures at every table, delicious food, and a friendly staff! Highly recommend!
Lauren S
The breakfast poutine? Divine. The carnitas scramble? Incredible. But the real hitter? The god d*mn lingonberry pancake. Every time my partner and I come here, we each get a typical breakfast dish and HAVE TO share one of these pancakes. They are what dreams are made of. Fluffy, massive, and wow that butter. This will forever be my favorite breakfast joint in the cities. And portions are big enough for a second breakfast the following day.
Manual Batt
I had biscuits and gravy… biscuits were hard, not much gravy , food was Luke warm , no hash browns! Just baked potatoes, They’re speciality’s pancakes 🥞… over all I was not impressed… waitress was very nice … trendy 🙄🤣

Flew into MSP for work & my cousin recommended I stop here for breakfast. Normally a Sunday morning would be packed with a wait time, but fortunately enough for me, a snow storm came through a few hours before I arrived. Was seated immediately, friendly service, delish food, interesting decor. Wouldn’t hesitate to say if I’m back in the area, I’d go again.
Negma Farah
We went here for brunch. The service was great. The food was great and large portions! I had the philly omelet and it kept me full the whole day! ❤️ I also enjoyed the various paintings decorated all over the restaurant.
Diana Eide
One of our favorite little spots for breakfast. Everything is done fresh and taste great. We have had a few bumps here and there...burnt toast, pancakes, etc., but these have been few. The space is cozy and funky with paint by numbers on the walls and little statues everywhere, but it gives it a fun charm. Is almost always busy so expect a wait. Their wild rice gravy is really good and a little different and their hollandaise is really yummy.
Michael Bellotti
Definitely recommend this place! My cousin was in from out of town and wanted breakfast. This was the closest place to our location so we gave it a try and were pleasantly surprised. Super cool decor with a whole smattering of paint by numbers paintings adorning the walls. My cousin, being one of those people service industry workers get annoyed by, ordered an egg omelet hold the egg. Think about that for second. She just wanted the veggies. They had no problem figuring that out. I ordered the hot plate special and it was delicious. We both ate for under $20 and were in and out in 45 minutes. I’ll be back. (In my best Terminator voice)

As soon as I walked into the restaurant, the first thing that caught my attention was the decor. It's decorated with very quirky artwork (Jesus pictures, hobo pictures, porcelain figurines, and random light fixtures) but all of it works to make a fun atmosphere. I started out with a cup of espresso and I will say, it was made perfectly. I ordered the breakfast burrito and a blueberry pancake. The breakfast burrito was by far the best one I've ever had. The sauce, chorizo, and veggies were all well balanced, creating excellent flavor. The pancake had that highly sought-after skillet taste, but wasn't overpowering either. The ratio of blueberries in the pancake was right on point too. The prices are very affordable, the employees are extremely friendly, and the environment is warm and welcoming for anyone to come have a great time of fellowship. Highly recommend this place!
Fernando Molano
Oh what an amazing place.
Such great vibes inside. Outside and inside looks and feels so humble which makes it even greater.
We were treated so nice and felt amazing. Had delicious breakfast for fair price.
I should have breakfast there every single morning!
Lizabeth Kyser
Great food and service. It's one of my favorite breakfast places. I recommend the Grand Marais, flavored pancakes (peanut butter are mt favorite), and biscuits and gravy. The restaurant is super cute and feels like a trip to your grandparents' basement. It's a small place and near the lake so there is often a long wait, especially in the summer.
Gifted MPLS
One of the best brunch spots in Minnesota. Pancakes are the best around, The Bloomington breakfast sandwich is great, and the breakfast burrito is also really good. Just note there's always a wait. Giving 4*s because the service was bad even during a less busy time. Will probably get it to go next time.
Sarah Wurdeman
First time here and loved the food and atmosphere. I had the special of the day: an omelette with ham, spinach, mushrooms, and mozzarella and fried potatoes. It was delicious. I also ordered a pecan pancake. This was the best pecan pancake I’d ever had. I highly recommend it.
Tiffany Leadley
Delicious! As you can see the portions were sizeable. Would recommend adding jalapeno to burritos.
Will Jenkins
First time eating here and loved it. Stopped in for breakfast after picking up family at the airport. The caramel apple French toast was awesome. The service was fast and polite. The coffee was delicious as well!
ML Maus
A cute small restaurant that has a neighborly and welcoming atmosphere. I enjoyed the decorations in the facility. If you like vintage and quirky- this is your spot!
vintage chandeliers, art, statutes, and lights, it’s all a travel back into time.
Breakfast pancakes are huge!! I had a hard time finishing it all so be aware! Also fluffy!
Nicole Bauer
This place was so cool!!! There are old retro handheld games and board games that you can play while waiting for a table. The decor is awesome too <3 oh and the food is absolutely delicious! Highly recommend the pancakes!
Daniel D
When you first walk in you're greeted with an array of paintings, pottery, and other forms of art all throughout the restaurant. Very busy but we only waited for 10 minutes tops ( only two of us). We ordered Chicken fried steak, eggs benedict, and one pancake. Overall the food was good and service was great!
C Dennis
Great experience, staff was really good. The reason for a 3 was the smell of smoke. It just ruined the entire experience. The smoke felt it was embedded in the fixtures. We sat at the bar stools, and had great service. We liked our experience enough that we want to try again. Maybe we sit in a booth next time and hopefully the smoke smell is not there.
demetri Den
Lots of good, nice priced food, but the portions were really big so we had a box or two. Overall, amazing experience, and lovely staff!
Jacully Hunter
The food was great! But the wait was INSANE. We had to wait 30 minutes to get seated at the 'very tiny " bar top, then we had to wait ANOTHER 45 minutes to get our food. I would come back but NEVER AGAIN on a Sunday !!!
Samahra Daly
We love this place! A rare little independent gem:) From the kitschy retro decor to the lovely and competent staff...it has a very genuine spirit! The kind of place you feel good about supporting because you know the people are all wonderful... and the BEST hollandaise ever!
Sherelle Harris
Nice quaint place with quick service. The food was okay. The biscuits and gravy was interesting. The biscuit s were delicious the gravy had no flavor. The regular pancakes were fluffy but lacked flavor. The poutine was delicious, the American potatoes were very tasty. The daily special was very tasty. The staff were friendly. The decor was very very interesting.
Kendall Nelson
Service was good and the food was excellent! Didn't have to wait at all, just came in and sat down.
Joe Albrecht
The only reason I'm not rating this higher is because I was overcharged for my food and when I asked about it was given a bad excuse rather than correcting my bill. I really enjoyed my food, and their wild rice gravy is my favorite gravy. I just don't like paying more than my bill should actually be. Overall it's a great restaurant just pay attention to how much your actually being charged.
Rebeca Ho
A quirky restaurant that’s hidden in a quiet neighborhood. There is usually a super long wait during the weekends, so I suggest going early in the morning on a weekday where it’s quieter and can get seated right away.
They offer typical breakfast food which tastes fresh and delicious. You really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.

🌮 🌮 TACO NIGHT IS BACK on Fridays 5pm-9pm.
Authentic Mexican tacos created by the best chef in South Mpls. What more could you ask for?! …
LeeLee Anne S
The carnitas omelet was absolutely amazing! A must try dish!! If I ever visit Minnesota again I will def be stopping by for that dishes again. I also tried biscuits and grave which was good but the Biscuits were a little hard. My kids pancakes were a little dificult to cut.
Amber Kuhn
Food was just okay. Not bad, but not "oh my goodness" great. The atmosphere is different, but okay. Server was okay, but not overly friendly. The cups were super cloudy for some reason - just didn't seem super clean. There is a bucket of silverware on the table to choose from which seems a little odd and not sanitary.
Cassidy Peiffer
Wait was about 1 hour long. Heard food was really good so we stuck it out. Biscuits and gravy had a sweet taste to them, so that was interesting. They were good though. The peanut butter pancake was delicious. Boyfriend got the bacon pancakes and loved them.
Ari Zachary
Very popular family dining with a small indoor waiting area, a 4-seat bar, and mostly 2-top and 4-top tables and 4-top booths. Set in a lovely, modest, quiet, middle class residential neighborhood about 15 minutes from MSP. The decor is reminiscent of a midwest grandma who's not quite a hoarder but keeps making room for more kitschy tchotchkes - it's very cheesy, but adds to the ambiance. Four lovely, friendly ladies working service and they are attentive and good at their jobs. All ages eat here - obviously mostly white, overweight people, but some of the staff is Latino and there was at least one asian customer. It's traditional, midwest fare (for breakfast), plus a well-constructed selection from "south of the border," midwest American style. Most of the backside of the (breakfast) menu is filled with pancake and waffle options, plus nice treats like mimosas and other adult brunch beverages. I ordered the Greek Omlette (feta, kalamata olives, spinach, and I added sauteed mushrooms and onions), which came out as a scramble (not an omlette) and served with deep fried potato cubes that are quite crisp and tasty. The scramble would have been mediocre, except that all the ingredients seemed very fresh and they use copious amounts of excellent-quality kalamatas. I added a side of chicken sausage which is very standard midwest salty and peppery and slightly better than mediocre. The guy next to me at the bar asked for ranch, which they do not have, but the server offered their homemade chipotle sauce that I added to my order as well and it is AMAZING! It comes warm in a big cup and has fantastic smokiness and an excellent combination of spicy kick with tanginess. It paired perfectly with everything I ordered. People, that chipotle sauce is really darn good! It's so good, it turned an otherwise mediocre food experience into an absolutely worthwhile trip. The excellent service, reasonable prices, and entertaining knickknacks all contributed to a lovely midwest breakfast dining experience. I definitely recommend, especially if you want traditional midwest breakfast fare with a few special twists.

CJ and the rest of the staff were wonderful to meet. Their recommendations were on point and the customer service was impeccable. The food was great as well but the people made it an experience that I was compelled to share. Good luck to you and the staff! Extra kudos to CJ for going above and beyond!
Stefan Buetow
Absolutely delicious! The pancake with bacon on top was amazing, so fluffy! The flavor of the sauces on my Huevos Divorciados were wonderful. 100% will be back.
Eddy Alvarez
Place is small but feels cozy. Food tasted delicious and at reasonable prices. Owner is from Mexico and her homemade sauce was superb. Well worth the visit if your hotel doesn’t offer free breakfast.
Allison Hassle
Food was good. Small portions which for my husband is a downfall. Reason for 3 stars and not 4 is there was no diaper changing area in the bathroom. Not acceptable.
Tim Keepers
Excellent Mom and Pop restaurant. Everything was awesome about this restaurant. I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Minneapolis.
Well be back on our next trip.
A. Messerli
Awesome food and great service. Quirky place with a lot of personality! Totally worth driving from south of the river! You will love it!
M. M.
We loved the food here! The Bloomington sandwich was AMAZING! If you are looking for local restaurants this one is a MUST!
Heather Peterson
The staff was very friendly and the food was beyond good. Their caramel roll was delicious, the hollandaise sauce on the eggs benedict was so good!! I may or may not have had a couple foodgasims.
Meghan Craft
Well worth the short wait. The staff here is so friendly, and the food is amazing. Once you are seating, the service is so fast. Water and silverware were waiting at the table for us when we were seated, and our food arrived to the table maybe 3 minutes after we ordered. The environment is super eclectic with lots of art on the walls and retro games. We ordered the caramel apple french toast and the veggie burrito -- both were DELICIOUS!
Beth Klemen
Had a delayed flight that had us stay in Minneapolis for the night and left us needing brunch the next morning. What a fun find! Super fun place with great decor. Even had the same paint by number Last Supper that my grandfather painted many years ago and remained in their kitchen for decades. We enjoyed our meals and also eyeing all the other delicious breakfast entrees others ordered. Deifnitely a locals fav and we were glad to enjoy it too!
Tamara Borden Zahler
Hot chocolate was delicious, hot and creamy, the Mexican Omlet was quite tasty and smothered with chipotle sauce and based on the servers suggestion to try the pancakes I got carmelized pecan pancake in lieu of toast. I'm in a food coma and still took half of the omlet and pancake home for another meal. Well worth the visit and no shortage of conversation regarding the decor!!! Street parking as one would expect for the area. Not far from Lake Nokomis to walk off the delicious calories ;-)
Dillon Sailer
Kitsch-esque diner with a delightful menu.

Long wait but we didn't book reservations. . Sunday brunch
Good food and LG portions... closes at 2pm
Brad Knutson
Awesome breakfast food - I highly recommend peanut butter pancakes. They have tons of breakfast options and are known for just that. Tends to be very busy on weekends so plan ahead and expect a short wait. On weekdays you could get in and out without having to wait. Top notch food and staff.
Mary Marcoux
It's a fun, friendly breakfast restaurant. Family owned, personable service, and a variety of VERY good food.
Jeffrey Brunsgaard
We stopped in for a date lunch on a Saturday; the wait for a table was reasonable, the service was great, and the food was truly exceptional. I had the buckwheat pumpkin waffle, which was an adequate portion to be a meal on its own and I would recommend to anybody, and my wife had the hot mess scramble, which was also excellent and was a generous/slightly large portion for lunch. A great little café that deserves accolades and a visit!

Simply put, this is our favorite breakfast place. The atmosphere is fantastic, and although there is often a wait, it's always worth it. I love the Greek scramble, but their peanut butter pancakes are in my book the star of the show. Every time we have guests visit we're sure to bring them here!
We moved away from the neighborhood a few years ago but still make it a point to drive over to get our fix. Now, if only we could convince them to open a second location close to Golden Valley...
Sergi Debussey
Waitress with dark hair and long pointy fingernails was fantastic and attentive. Foods delicious too
Tom Stenerson
Just wanted a nice breakfast. Found this on Google. WOW, very busy for 10am. Short wait none the less. OMG, I had the biscuits and gravy. Mild for having sausage yet very flavorful. My spouse had the caramel apple french toast. I had to try some. Delicious! Well worth the stop, even if it's out of the way. Will definitely be back next time I am in the area!
Carlos Figari
Top 10 breakfast 🥞 fast service but always packed you will wait but parking is easy.
OMNI
I had the eggs benedict it was delicious I'm sorry I didn't take a picture of it. Next time I visit I will take a picture and I definitely will have the eggs benedict again.
SadeDora Rogers
Busy neighborhood eatery. My favorite part was the breakfast potatoes, best I've had. The place seems to cater to a particular customer, but the service was friendly. If you love pancakes... You like the tall stack.
Kathie Smestad
Small neighborhood cafe. Breakfast was just barely warm… when I asked the waitress to warm up the pancakes ,she said she couldn’t . I had touched the food ! Of course I had touched the food how else would I have known the pancakes needed to be heated up. She walked away I was stunned! Crazy !!!!
John Hiebert
A local gem. They only do breakfast, but they do or really well. Expect a wait unless you're there at opening, but the tables move well and they have a nice little patio to wait (when weather is accommodating). Get the peanut butter pancakes. Not sure what kind of magic they use to make these, but... They're addictive. They haunt me in my dreams.
Arasu S
Really impressed with the food here. I had the Grand Marais scramble with trout. It was well cooked, not soggy, perfectly flavored. Service was fast, attentive and friendly despite the place being crazy busy. We had to wait for a while for a table, but it was well worth it.
Shivika Singal
Good little brunch place. It was cosy and the staff was fantastic. The brunch was decent for the price and the wait. Mimosa could have been skipped for the tab. But the food tasted alright. May come again if in the area.
J M
This veggie breakfast burrito was amazing. There's definitely enough for two! The environment is great and the staff is attentive and friendly.
Derek P.
Their caramel roll kicked ass. The Grand Marais scramble was just a touch above average.
Amanda Brown
Awesome food! Awesome service! Awesome ambiance! 👌 Highly recommend! Thanks Ethan! 😊 …
Farmer Monica (Farmer Monica)
Service was great and the daily special egg scramble was delish! My companion was delightful but she's not on the menu.
S Hicks
As an out of towner and an afficionado of offbeat eclecticism, I love this place. The food is good, the service is great, the atmosphere is comfortable. There's lots to look at, too. Recommended!
Cindy Ivy
As usual, a very cool place with a seriously awesome vibe. However, my food wasn't warm and we waited a little longer than normal to get our food, so I didn't want to wait again. Also, I got a fantastic hot chocolate, but that was also lukewarm. Still worth going though.
vanessa Anderson
An adorable and quirky casual spot to get breakfast bites! Extremely popular so expect to wait. But, so worth it
A Sudden Whim
Rally good food, great atmosphere. This is officially my favorite restaurant. Be prepared.. There is almost always a wait, but you hardly notice because there's so much to look at.
Colleen Sexton
First timers & we will be back! The food is delicious and the service is great & super friendly.
Curtis Anson
I came in with a friend a few months ago on a Sunday morning, I believe, and it was understandably busy and we didn't mind the wait. I especially didn't mind the wait because they had a ton of old-school games in the waiting area which made the wait enjoyable.
We ended up sitting at the bar section, which I actually preferred. I don't recall what I ordered, but it was pretty good. What I really liked, however, and this isn't for everyone, but I enjoyed having a beer with my breakfast! My friend ordered a mimosa.
Overall I'm a fan of this place, and I'd recommend it to friends.
Matthew Emerson
Cute date spot, worth the wait. I would highly recommend the chalkboard scramble that changes often and a waffle for a guaranteed stellar breakfast experience.5/5 for the rockem sockem at the front, a great way to get a laugh and some nostalgia.
Kristin
Wonderful diner style brunch. Fantastic country fried steak with this amazing wild rice sausage gravy. The potatoes are fried to the perfect crisp and yummy seasoning. Light fluffy pancakes and sausage patties. Mimosas served and perfect black diner style coffee that hits the spot. Definitely going to try the poutine next time because it’s served with the same to die for gravy!
christine brown
The waiter CJ was just great and friendly man who payed attention to detail
My son and I had a great breakfast
Megan E
What a fun little place! It was packed with regulars that most of the wait staff knew by name. We stopped in for breakfast which was delicious and the coffee hot. The decor is an amazing array of midcentury glass and trinkets. I found a couple pieces that were definitely in grandma's house. Recommend!
Le Le
Unique decor by unique I mean wall to wall Paint by Number oil paintings and every flat surface covered with little statues with sweet and sassy sayings on them. I enjoyed this spot. Oh, did I mention it also served up really good food :-)
Valbona Bushi
Great place for breakfast with delicious bacon! Loved the inside decor and usually a wait over the weekend.
Joel Acker
Delicious breakfast! The chicken fried steak was delicious as was the sandwich called “The Bloomington”. The restaurant is quite eclectic & very neat. Our server was very friendly & helpful too. We’ll definitely be back!
Rebecca Loader
Great local place for breakfast. Lovely pancakes and great daily specials.
Alex Bowles
Great place for breakfast! Sometimes a wait for a table on weekends but it's so worth the wait for the excellent food and great service. Will definitely be returning.
Sara Ebert
The food and the staff were fantastic. Everything was delicious! We loved the Mexican dishes (we tried 2 different ones) the sauces were awesome. The biscuits & gravy & pancakes were some of the best we've had.
Katrina Woods
Very eclectic atmosphere with amazing food!
Alyssa Henscheid
Delicious food; wait wasn't too bad even though it was Sunday and busy. Would totally eat here again.
Lydia Venjohn
Perfect brunch place! I met up with some friends here, everyone really enjoyed their meals. I ordered the Greek Scramble with a pancake on the side and a mimosa. Delicious! The interior is very eclectic, artwork of all types hanging on the wall. Very fun place.
Augusta Marian
Friday Taco Night has become a regular thing for us at this hidden gem. Lots of interesting decor and tchotchkes, welcoming atmosphere to all, friendly service, and cheap, delicious, authentic tacos. Highly recommend!
Callyn Fox
This restaurant is run by such amazing people and the food is amazing. From the minute you walk in, you are treated like you are family! The Bloomington sandwich is legit the best breakfast sandwich I’ve ever had. Please try this place!! the mimosas are flowing and the food is great and company is even better. You will not be disappointed.
Tracy L
The atmosphere was awesome. Childhood memorials everywhere! The food was amazing. We had a great time. Service was excellent! Recommend when visitors come from out of town!!!
LeAnn Groth
I am in love with a place.
I have been told about this place for YEARS. It's close to my house, the decor is FUN, the menu covers all my favorites and new things, and the staff is friendly
The food was INCREDIBLE.
Mike Foreman
Just driving through town I found this place. Great food and very friendly staff. I found that the size of the breakfast burrito way larger than expected. Reasonable price for the amount of food.
Katie Kruse
Went to Hot Plate for family Sunday brunch and they did not disappoint! Love the décor, something to look at from every angle, so unique! My kids played the best game of I spy finding great stuff to look at. Staff was so nice, friendly and accommodating. Menu has great traditional options as well as more adventurous treats! We will for sure being going back!
Mark Mlongrie
Neat paintings. I recognize some of the clowns, maybe I’ve seen the same artist before, or inspired. Decent burrito.
Matt Lepisto
Best tacos I’ve had in a while! The crispy potato taco sent me into another dimension. As authentic as any taco truck with better quality. I’ll be there every Friday night from now on! 🔥🔥🔥 …
Jonny Oppz
Alright, so I own a little neighborhood restaurant like Hot Plate in my city and I just absolutely love everything about this place! Everything about it was so great and so unique and so kitch for the sake of being kitch, which kind of encompasses what my restaurant is like, so I felt a personal connection with this restaurant in a way that I don't with most places. The food was amazing - we had breakfast and 10 out of 10, would recommend the food. However, the atmosphere was really the thing and it was cool that they had local craft beer as well. This is a new favorite for breakfast and lunch in the Twin Cities!
Alex Provan
Interesting atmosphere, very friendly people running the restaurant. Good food with Midwestern twist. The pumpkin buckwheat waffles are delicious. Great for the whole family to get breakfast or to get brunch with your friends. Really a wonderful place!
Baked Goodez
Everything was amazing and our server gave great suggestions. I'll definitely be going back.
D.J. LeBlanc
Genuinely feel at home. Comfortable. Friendly staff. Great food.
Chloe Johnson
Until COVID-19 is over I'd recommend making a reservation, but oh my goodness!! Everything was so amazing! All of the dishes were seasoned really well, they smelled amazing, and there was a lot more than I was expecting! The ambiance of the place was really great, and the waitstaff were incredibly cheerful and excited to help make recommendations as well as adding additional food requests. Truly an amazing place to eat! I can't wait to go again!
Crystal Rainwater
Very unique atmosphere. Lots of old school games that allow the new generation and the older generations to have something to do while you wait for food. Service was very kind and friendly to out-of-towners
Rachel Block
Absolutely THEE best place for breakfast/brunch in the twin cities. The decor is fun, the staff is friendly and accommodating, and the food is delicious. There's usually a little bit of a wait, but it's worth it!
Laura Krech
I'm from out of town and thought it would be a yummy place for brunch. They have a lot of options- pancakes, scrambles, coffee bar and mimosas. The food was incredibly bland! The portions were large, the atmosphere was quirky, but I couldn't choke the food down!
AM Jones
The breakfast food at this restaurant is excellent, as is their online ordering experience.
We had ordered a Breakfast Sandwich, breakfast potatoes, and their Apple French Toast. All three were excellent. The potatoes were crisp, but not burned. The sandwich was grilled to perfection with good quality cheese, and the french toast was some of the best my wife has ever had.
When ordering online, you are asked with each item if you need forks, knives, napkins, and various condiments, which made things very convenient. You may want to pad the expected pickup time with a few minutes; their website states this, and we found it to be true as well.
If hoping to eat-in, expect a long delay on weekend mornings. While picking up our takeout order, several folks were given an estimate of over an hour for a table.
Additionally, I was able to see that the tables are packed pretty closely. This isn’t surprising for a restaurant that has long wait times during the popular eating periods, however it did not appear to be the best environment for anyone who is attempting to stay healthy and free from COVID-19. While the staff wore masks, some of them frequently left the masks rest below their noses.
I would love to eat here again, hopefully during a less busy time, after COVID-19 is no longer a threat.
Vincent Lopez
Always a great place for breakfast, Even for lunch, everything I've tried has been fantastic!
It's also a great place to meet up with friends just for coffee
Chloe C
Amazing! The staff were so kind and they really make it feel like you're welcome there. The food was yummy. The reason for 4 stars was the 40 minute wait, but I'm sure it's just because of the time (11am, Sunday.)
Shrimp Kitty
Great place for a nice hot breakfast! Second time here and the staff was very friendly, just like that first time we ate here. Pancake was awesome!
José Luis Sánchez Uría
Great service. Very friendly staff. Food is great I had the hit mess hash and it was outstanding. The ambience I very nice too. Will I come back again? For sure.
Tim Raymond
Very much enjoyed this place. Staff was super nice and the food came out super quick. I also love the decor.
Summer Girl
We got the pecan pancakes and the chalkboard special which was asparagus bacon and scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese. So yummy! Next time I’d get the same thing. Would like to try blueberry pancakes
Barb C.
Fast, delishious breakfast at a really funky cool place!
Arianna Madison
This place has some of the best affordable breakfast in Minneapolis and the servers are so nice. The biscuits and gravy and the hot mess hash are the best menu options in my opinion. They make the mimosas and poinsettias the RIGHT way with just a splash of juice ;) it's also just entertaining to look at everything in their kitschy dining room. <3 had 5 mimosas, a latte, hot mess, and side of bacon for under $60.
Ayla carpenter
A charming restaurant with a throw back to the 1960's decor. I had the Eggs Benedict which was delicious although I prefer my eggs a little runnier than these, but the flavor was good and the little roasted breakfast potatoes were wonderful. My husband had the corned beef hash which also came with breakfast potatoes and two eggs. He said the same thing I did, his eggs were supposed to be over medium but they were more over-hard but the food was delicious. So, we will go back!
Also, portions are large and we took a doggie bag home.
Lance Pachon Mueller
This might go down as the best brunch place I have ever been too. The service was great, the setting was personalized and decorative. You really get a home cooked vibe from this place. It was hard for me too even choose one thing from the menu, luckily they have a whole section of sides to choose from. Food was out quick and food was fresh. Some of the items were smothered in their respective sauces but it was not soggy. I was kind of amazed on how well put together the food and dish was. It's not expensive, they have multiple coffee options and mimosas. The best part is this is priced just like any other breakfast place so you don't even break the bank. We will absolutely be coming back, and sharing this with others. I am actually sad I didn't know about this place sooner.
Alyssa Elwood
Quiet little neighborhood place. Fantastic food. The Hot Mess is amazing!!!!
Asa Morral
Service was excellent. Food was good but not great.
Nick Budzinski
Great food, great service, good menu. Really liked the atmosphere too.
Heather Strand
Food was ok. Really greasy but comes with the territory. Service was great and I would go back. Very busy on a Sunday morning.
Jason Marko
Really great breakfast food. I had the biscuits and gravy, wife had the poutine, and daughter had the pancakes. My breakfast potatoes were cooked to perfection. My daughter said the hot chocolate was "the best ever". Great place, great social distancing procedures. Definitely recommend.
Mr. B
A small neighborhood cafe. Great staff and plates. Coffee is a 10. Biscuits and gravy good.
shari erickson
Hot Plate is a unique, fun, and eccentric spot to dine on mostly breakfast. It is family friendly and quite delicious!
Cecelia Sheffield
Love this little neighborhood gem. Had no idea they have an additional back room. I would love to go in there when they are not open to just look at everything. So eclectic!! And the food is very good. And oh those delicious potatoes!!!!
Terri Olson
Stopped for breakfast. They have quite a large selection of breakfast items. The portions are big and VERY good. I had the blueberry pancakes and someone else had the pumpkin waffle with caramelized pecans. Excellent choice!!
P
Nice place, and great service, unfortunately the food was not hitting.
M M
Fantastic! I had the chorizo omelette and it was so good that I ate the whole plate! So stuffed.
Dan Farrell
A quaint little breakfast nook. Nothing fancy but honest food and decent coffee. My biscuits and gravy were well made, the eggs good and the potatoes tasty. I was hoping the coffee would be served with real cream, not the shelf stable creamer containers, but it was acceptable. The prices and quality kept the value up for a 5 star review. Expect to wait for a table at peak times.
Kat Redwine
The Huevos Divorciados was delicious. The atmosphere is adorable, a great vintage feel, almost like you’re at grandmas.
Laura Hupp
Very solid breakfast spot. It's in my neighborhood, so I might be biased due to convenience, but this is kind of my go-to breakfast place. The interior kind of feel like going to your grandmother's house (if your grandmother is into knick-knacks and paint by number). 90% of the time I've really enjoyed the food here. Some menu items were kind of a miss for me, but most things I've tried have been really excellent. The breakfast potatoes are always satisfying. The pancakes are delectable. The coffee is good and you can get beer or a mimosa if that's what you're into. The staff is very friendly and laid-back. One downside is that it can get kind of crowded. I've had to wait over half an hour before and there isn't much room in there for people to wait. Usually during warmer months people will wait outside for a table. I'd say it's worth the wait though!
Ronald Cruz
Dang that gravy was fire! The potatoes were crispy... Great food!!!
George Powell (Damann)
The food was really good for little uncomfortable the overall a great place to eat breakfast
Wendy Hammer
Food is delish, service exceptional.. highly recommended. We had Elana on Sunday and she is a delight.
Morrcellia Columbus
My sister and I were looking for a place with outdoor seating to treat our dad for Father's Day brunch. I came across this little gem. The reviews were good so we decided to reserve a spot. Overall very impressed. We did have to wait a little bit to be seated but otherwise the service was good, the food was fantastic and the atmosphere was very friendly. Will return soon!
Bill Leppelmeier
Creative food in a creative space...great service....smoked local lake trout....mmmmm
Josephine C
Our second time here for breakfast. We love it and will back again!
Kacie Weber
This is an awesome stop for breakfast! The atmosphere is fun and the food and service is amazing. It's in a small neighborhood tucked away from busy streets. Parking is super easy and you can get in and out fast if you're in a hurry. The menu is unique with a lot of different options. I'd recommend the South of the Border Breakfast Burrito!
Joe Grover
Excellent diner breakfast. Maybe my favorite in the twin cities (though Key's on Raymond holds a special place in my heart). The atmosphere is undeniably a primary selling point, but that doesn't mean they skimp on the quality of the food. This menu is so clearly built on love and memories, I smile just reading it. I wish I could go more often.
jayramar ortiz
First stop after landing in Minneapolis for the first time. Great little local place. Breakfast burrito and pancakes 🖒🖒very very good! …
Schwanz Werner
I love this place to go for breakfast! I love their eggs Benedict. They staff are nice and always rushing because everyone loves going here for food so it’s always busy! But the staff are pretty good at keeping things moving along. The prices are great for the quality of the food! The atmosphere is nice with a billion pictures on the walls to look at. Definitely should be your next breakfast destination!
Heather Frary
We've been here tons of times. If you get here early, the wait is short. We've never waited more than 20 min. They offer coffee, games and water. Outside area is fun in warm weather. Food is amazing! Friends love the pancakes. I always order chilaquiles. The breakfast potatoes rock. Great alcoholic beverages too. Great service. Super fun decor. This is one of our go to breakfast spots.
Brian Kocher
Loved the decor! Late 20th century paint by number. Outstanding! Had the carnitas scramble which was excellent. The coffee was perfect!
Paul Kyser
Such a great spot. I love their omlets and they are famous for their pancakes.
Isaac (Deliverance)
Great eclectic breakfast joint. The Hot Mess Hash is great as others have said, I ordered based on other reviews and wasn't disappointed. They have homemade hot sauce with a strong vinegar base which I love. I would have given five stars but I ordered hot chocolate for three kids under ten but was served and charged for the adult size.
Ashley Kalenian
A bit of a hole in the wall restaurant but the food was very good... especially the blueberry pancakes! We did have a larger party and they require everyone to be there before seating so had a bit of a wait. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The decor is too cluttered for my taste but doesn't impact the quality of the food.
Mary Jo Quay
Funky restaurant serves personality with service and yummy food. The walls are covered with art, photos, memorabilia. Great place for a change of pace and lots of smiles.
5s 1s
Friendly staff! Pancakes, pumpkin waffle, and potatoes were fantastic. Chicken fried steak and breakfast burrito were so so. We'd go back to try other stuff and eat the potatoes again!!
Kangyoua Thao
I always thought all breakfast food taste the same. I never knew there was great breakfast food until I came here.
Had blueberry pancakes and some other breakfast entree and both were amazing. Try this place out.
The wait is crazy but it's worth it. They should expand and have more seating.
Susan
Great breakfast spot. Old school yet hip diner. Kitschy decor, fun wait staff. I had an omelette with their homemade potatoes and wonderful bread. The serving was huge and delicious! Steaming hot out of the kitchen and generous veggie filling in the omelette!
Miu Edson
Loved the decor. I had the Grand Marais special which included smoked trout. It was good. I love how crispy the potatoes were on the outside. The pancakes were huge and fluffy.
Veronika Skor
Fun breakfast joint that doesn't skimp on the hollandaise with their eggs Benedict 😂 classic diner food with some quirky additions and decor. Reasonable prices, lots of things to look around at, games for kids and kids at heart, decent coffee. No reservations and popular so be prepared to wait if you go during peak times. …
S. Bacon
Very unique decorating with 1960's feel. It's very cozy, nothing fancy on purpose. Not a very big place so you might have to wait for a table, but it's worth the wait. Free coffee while you wait. Great for a hearty breakfast.
It has become a favorite place for me.
Wayne Bartz
All of the food was amazing. We had caramel apple French toast, the Bloomington breakfast sandwich and corned beef hash. Don't sleep on the amazing potatoes either. If service was even a bit attentive it would be 5 stars. One entrée forgotten, one beverage forgotten and not even a simple acknowledgement. Food alone carried the experience, though!
Todd Huber
the food was so amazing and we forgot about the curbside pickup and went inside. holy crud! the interior decor is stunning. and the lady inside was the nicest possible. i am excited to eat here when this awful pandemic and its subsequent befuddlement by the nimrods posing as people with focused sociopolitical power are over and done with.
Mia Partridge
Went here for mother’s day and it has a small but amazing menu!! The atmosphere is cozy and reminds me of my childhood at my grandmas house with lots of eclectic paintings, Knick knacks, and fun lighting!! It is kid friendly with a huge stack of games in the front (good for adults too)! They serve great Hispanic dishes mixed with breakfast favorites! My sister is 5 and ate all of her pancakes and she does not finish a whole lot of dishes!! 10/10 recommend!!! Definitely coming back!
Robert Maurizio
Great local spot with friendly staff and decorated like your grandmother's duplex. Food is decent for a decent price. Coffee on offer while you wait (always appreciated and enables the addict in me) which was a welcome touch.
It's my local diner now and I'll be back.
Josh A
In town from Chicago and looking for a local breakfast place. Went on a Sat morning and there was a very small wait. In the waiting area there are games to keep you busy. The rest of the restaurant has crazy figurines and wild pics on the wall. Voted best chicken fried steak in Minnesota so had to try and I was very happy with my choice. One of the best I have ever had. There was a high review for the peanutbutter pancakes so we had to try those too. Unfortunately that did not live up to the hype. So bad everyone took one bite to try and never touched again. Other than that everything was good. Nice place to go and prices are reasonable.
Austin Hurlock
This is our favorite local place for breakfast or brunch. The menu has an array of delicious options, the wait staff are friendly, and the location is clean and filled with interesting art and decor. Check it out and support some locals!
Ligaya C
Love this place. From the retro games, pictures in walls, small statuettes, to food (huge servings) especially the bacon and eggs Benedict, to the unisex bathroom to about everything else. Service is wonderful! It can get crowded during peak times. My husband and I got tables fast on a weekday at around 1030 am. Moist and tasty flapjacks too.
Beth Greimann
Great breakfast menu. The pancakes are HUGE! Tbe lingonberry butter superb. Tbe pumpkin buckwheat waffle with caramelized pecans was amazing. Great staff fun decor . Indoor and outdoor waiting.
Anthony
The food was good and came out quickly, however, after our server delivered the food we never saw him again until we had to flag him down for the check. They also didn't have any choices of sides other than the potatoes like fruit or greens. Also just FYI they will not seat you until your full party has arrived (not necessarily negative or positive, just a note).
Carl Hoffman
Very tasty food, big portions, service was friendly and attentive. Waited about 15 minutes for a table on a Saturday morning, which seems pretty normal for a popular spot. The coffee was very good and the decor is quirky and cool.
David Wittman
I went to the taco bar on Friday night's and it was amazing. I have never gone to their normal hours, but I have definitely found my taco spot. Good service that is friendly. I went for a nice dinner with a friend of mine recently here and it was the perfect place to catch up. Will check it the breakfast soon!
Joshua Philips
The food was good. The service was a little slow, but my party and I had to wait for 45 minutes, so the restaurant was pretty busy.
I had the homemade corned beef hash. The corned beef was delicious, and the house potatoes were cooked perfectly. My friend had the lake trout with eggs and cream cheese and every bite was a perfect bite. In addition, my friend ordered a pancake with caramelized pecans. The caramelized pecans were crushed and mixed with sugar, but they definitely wowed the table.
10/10 would eat here again.
Michelle Engstrom
Curbside perfection! We ordered online, and the order was ready and in our car less than 15 minutes later. The chicken fried was the best I've had in Minnesota and had a delicious wild rice gravy. Support this business they are doing a great job.
Mackenzie
Incredible - Home cooked tasty food! I just learned about this place and have been back two weekends in a row. The food is flavorful and generous in portions. The location is eccentric and the staff is kind and down to earth. I would recommend the lingonberry butter on your pancakes - note you can always swap your toast for pancakes for just a small charge. It's definitely worth it.
I enjoyed my build your own omelet most and have heard the biscuits and gravy are delicious. I had the breakfast burrito and though really good not as breakfast as it was just a giant burrito.
Katie Furey
Been to hot plate three times recently and every time has been delicious! Love the amazing fluffy pancakes and the eggs benny. Not a ton of seating so expect a wait during busy times but always worth it. Complementary water and coffee when waiting and also cute fun old fashioned hand held games in the waiting area.
Austin Miller
I'd consider myself a pancake connoisseur and this is my favorite place in the twin cities for pancakes. They're very dense and always warm. The staff is great at remembering people which always makes me feel like coming back!! The peanut butter pancakes are amazing, they could use a little more peanut butter but still great.
Chevy
I love this spot. I tell visitors to my hotel ALL THE TIME. Everyone loves the recommendation. Each visits is great.
Josh Montenegro
Great place. Fun atmosphere. And delicious food.
H D
Very quaint restaurant with tons of paint by number art all over the walls and wacky figurines.
The breakfast is great! They are only open until 2:30pm so get there early. They are currently expanding the restaurant so there will be more room and hopefully less waiting time soon!
Charity La Fontaine
Always the best experience. The corned beef hash is top of the line and the breakfast burrito is to die for. Elevating traditional breakfast and adding unique items you'll never stop dreaming about!
Kelly Laursen
Good biscuits and gravy. You can get a simple breakfast if you just combine sides. The lingonberry butter pancake is delicious, not just a flavoring you can see some seeds. They serve a local coffee beer and it's tasty. It's got so many trinkets and pictures on the wall you can look through the whole time you eat breakfast. The staff is so sweet, too.
Roshan Rajkumar
What a gem. Took my #1 for date-brunch. The interior is kitschy and fun. The restaurant is spaced out for safety so get a reservation. The staff were kind, fun and knew the menu. The Heuvos Rancheros was both perfectly prepared and just enough heat. The hot mess plate was filling and well-balanced. But the caramel roll stole the show enough for 2-3 people. Melted butter was perfect touch. Our server, Leena (sp.), was so kind and her recommendations were perfect. We loved this place. Go. Now.
Jeff Mudrow
Great little breakfast spot. Fair prices, large portions, friendly/prompt customer service and a great breakfast! What more can you ask for at a restaurant. I enjoyed a breakfast sandwich and pancakes. If in Minneapolis and you are looking for a good breakfast I would highly recommend Hot Plate.
Heather Storie
Wonderful and friendly employees, incredibly delicious food - nothing fake tasting. I will warn you that you should plan on a wait to be seated, but we also have only been there on weekends. The decor could use an update, but that’s probably part of the charm haha!
Sheena Curry
Hot Plate was marvelous! I had the Bloomington breakfast sandwich with sausage. Breakfast sandwiches are my jam, and this was probably the best one I've ever had. The sourdough bread was toasted to perfection and had a light layer of maple syrup. So delicious! The only downfall is that we had to wait 45 minutes for a table, but it was well worth the wait!
John Swanson
First time there, and it definitely will NOT be my last! Absolutely LOVED it! Gotta bring my whole family. Food is EXCELLENT. Wait staff is right there, friendly. I like the decor in the place too. My food looked so good, and I was so hungry..I didn't take a picture(which normally I DO). On my next visit, I for sure WILL.🙂👍👍❤ …
Dillon Fawcett
Came here a year ago and loved our experience so much we had to drive 4 hours to come back. It's a busy place, so we expect a little bit of a wait, but it is well worth it. The servers and manager are very polite and enjoyable to talk with. Great food, great coffee, and great, corky atmosphere.
Anthony Lambrecht
Reasonable parking, not too long of a wait, and a more relaxed atmosphere. The biscuits and gravy is really great, the american potatoes are also very satisfying, the pancakes are perfectly squishy and somewhat plus sized, but the BYO Omelet has a shocking lack of seasoning or any form of memorable flavor. Our Server was a lovely lady by the name of Anel and she was awesome. She automatically filled my coffee cup without me needing to ask and she had a few very warm and friendly conversations with us and certainly helped build a comfy atmosphere. The interior however, was overdone and cluttered as if an old lady who has lived alone with horses for 20 years was hired to decorate.
Alice-Lynne
Picked a busy time for brunch, and rather than wait 45 minutes for a table we placed an order to go. It was still hot when we got to our patio and was so good! Next time we'll go earlier and enjoy the fun kitschy atmosphere!
Mike Lass
Always enjoyable meal and most pleasant staff. Delicious food and well priced makes this super fun restaurant a top pick for weekend brunch and paint-by-number enthusiasts. It’s worth the wait and if you are fortunate to have to test your patience, we’ve always silver-lined the wait with a rock’em, sock’em robots tournament in the waiting area. Only downside, no fresh fruit. Delightful.

Read some reviews and expected the place to be busy as it was noon on Sunday. They have a cool waiting area outside and it was nice out. Wait was about 20-30 min once inside the place is very small and cramped and we got seated at small round table as there was only two of us. Way too small of a table when your going to try out a new place. There wasn't even room for all our food. The waiter was very inattentive and that's ok with us but it took 15 min or so to get my wife's coffee and he forgot my soda and I had to ask for it. Now he didn't have a problem attending to the table behind us because there was somebody he knew there and they were served their drinks before we got ours and they were sat about 10 min after us.
The lingonberry pancake was awesome, first pancake I have eaten my whole life without syrup! The chicken fried steak was decent and the breakfast potatoes were very good. My wife ordered a side of bacon and the Bacon was delicious(real applewood smoked and you could taste it!) My wife had the biscuits and gravy and the biscuit(homemade) was great and they used the same gravy on that as the chicken fried steak. I wouldn't recommend the Caramel roll.
Overall it was an OK experience and we will maybe visit again but not going to make it a staple in our restaurant rotation.

This is a perfect local restaurant. The food is AMAZING!! Very busy on the weekends, especially Sunday, so if you can go on a weekday that would be a much shorter wait time. It’s a very cozy establishment with lots of festive art on the walls and knickknacks all over. Some of the best breakfast I’ve ever had!
Ryan Kochish
Great selection on the menu with a very friendly atmosphere. The mismosa's we're a little overpriced but we're delicious. We ordered pancakes and a breakfast sandwich and the order was out in less than five minutes. While you wait for your table you have rock em sock em robots to play with which is pretty nostalgic.
Laura Nelson
Biscuits and Gravy with wild rice seasoned potatoes, coffee sourdough toast. Sorry no pictures, fun place, interesting decor sat in the back room. Would definitely go again to try another menu item.
Lex Talionis
Been coming here for a couple years. Food is great, service is great. It's a pretty small venue--like diner small--so there can be a wait and usually is. I've never had their dinner but I'm told it's awesome as well. Neighborhood spot for something like 15 years but I find myself meandering to this neighborhood just for this place a few times a year.
Adam Rondeau
I've had a few friends express that they weren't as blown away by this place the same way I was, but that's probably because I may have oversold it to them a little. The color-by-number art on the walls and all the little statue/trophy things, paired with great greasy spoon breakfast foods makes for a nice meal in a nice atmosphere. But, get there expecting there might be a wait. It's not a large place and tends to be pretty popular on weekends especially.
kimmy stanton
I love this place. It was my first time checking this place out, and I thought it was super cute and homey. Love the decor. Cute little patio outside to wait for your table. The food was amazing. The staff is so friendly and helpful. I ordered caramel apple french toast. Delicious! I can't wait to go back.
Andrew
I ordered the chicken fried steak. There was cinnamon, possibly nutmeg or something like that, in the gravy. It was not good. I will give the 3 stars because my girlfriend liked her meal. Don't mess with the classics, just make them the way they are supposed to be made.
Joel Davis
This breakfast place is very near my house, so I've tried it several times. "It's OK," describes it pretty well. The menu has some unique takes on traditional breakfast food, but I haven't found anything here that I can say is excellent. Most of what I've tried has tasted pretty bland to me, especially the fried potatoes that come with most dishes. Those are very dry.
The staff is usually friendly, the décor is a conversation starter, and to their credit the place is always pretty busy on the weekends. But unless I'm too lazy to venture more than a block away from home, there are much better options in the area.
Camden DeBruin
Awesome pancakes and eggs benedict. One of the most unique restaraunt atmospheres I have been to. The service can be slow on weekends but they generally can speed it up if you tell them that you are in a hurry. Also is a plus that the restaraunt has vegan and vegetarian options for everybody.
I ask to go there every year for my birthday and would recommend it to anyone.
Kevin Hohnstein
Cute little breakfast spot in South Minneapolis. Went around 9am, and the place was fairly busy. Was seated right away and the waitress was at our table fairly quick. I ordered a BYO omelette. Portions are large, but super tasty. Food came quick. The menu had lots of options for breakfast. Might have to try the Carmel apple French toast next time.

Atmosphere is unique. Small, cozy, with great service! Food was hot and delicious. Carmel apple french toast recommended. Coffee was so good as were the breakfast potatoes. Its worth visiting for the food and the figurines!!!
Kate
A great place to get good ole breakfast favorites done right. The environment is quirky and fun and the menu has something for everyone whether you're GF, vegetarian, vegan or an omnivore. The pancakes are great! Friendly service and thorough servers although sometimes over burdened. Overall a place I'll come back to when in Minneapolis :)
Becca Freeman
The wait wasn't terrible for 2 on a Saturday at noon! Only about 10-15 minutes. Parking wasn't terrible either - street parking was plentiful. Also, service was great. I only waited minutes between coffee refills. Their pancakes were melt in your mouth good - highly recommend! The only tiny thing that could have been better was to have known their lingonberry butter pancakes are just buttermilk pancakes with a small scoop of the lingonberry butter. Next time I think I would get extra lingonberries added. Overall, I'd definitely recommend - I'll be coming back!
Rob
Great little eclectic breakfast joint nicely tucked into the neighborhood. Service was fast and friendly and we enjoyed the breakfast burritos. It is worth getting there to just to see the paint by numbers covering the walls.
Hope AFFIRMED
Amazing Food, great service! Very fresh food and drinks. Our first time the experience was phenomenal I would go back again and again.....
edr ekow
Biscuits and gravy. Unique seasoning with fluffy biscuits. Excellent eggs over easy. Yummy blueberry buttermilk pancakes with the reasonably priced optional real maple syrup. Coffee as good as what I make at home. Wish I lived close enough to frequent. The kitschy decor brought a flood of memories. Good service.
Denise Nichols
I fell in love with Hot Plate the moment I first saw the "paint by number" filled walls. I love the kitschy decor. It's a great conversation piece. Not only is this restaurant fun, but the pancakes (and other breakfast items) are delicious. I can't wait to go back!
rod mason
The setting and ambience of this place are amazing.
The setting: Every spare level spot is lined with 5 inch high kischy figurines of every sort. Every bit of wall space is covered with small prints. During good weather there is outdoor seating.
The customers: They all seem content and happy. The place is filled with a buzz of conversation.
The food: It's great, long on egg dishes with spiciness levels for every taste.
You can't go wrong if you can get in.
Stefany Thiessen
The pancakes at Hot Plate are the best I've ever had.. They're like a mix between crapes and pancakes. The bacon is equally awesome and they even manage to have crispy bacon in their omelettes.
Loved it so much we came back the next day for breakfast.
You have to eat here.
William Webb
Some Of The Best Food I've Had In A While, Going Out For Breakfast. I Had The Breakfast Poutine And It Was Amazing. The Gravy And Everything Was Cooked Amazingly And The Potatoes Were Perfect. I Highly Recommend Coming Here. 10/10 Would Eat Again.
Jeff Pool
The worst part about breakfast here was the waddle to the door after devouring the Breakfast Poutine with a Pancake. Fast and courteous service, impressive menu, and kid friendly. Will definitely be back to work my way around that menu!
Josh Schonert
This place was AMAZING! The food was top notch, the coffee was amazing, and some of the best pancakes I've ever had. The decor was interesting, but not a deterrent. Definitely will be going back when in town.
Goat 95
Went here when I visited Minneapolis with my girlfriend around New Years I usually don’t leave reviews but this place deserves we loved the food the owner was really nice would recommend if you like breakfast and ever go to Minneapolis
Jon Hilgers
Go for the kitschy paint-by-numbers art hanging everywhere and "I wuv you THIS much!" figurines, stay for the very good breakfast eats, including my favorite toast anywhere, a yummy seeded multigrain.
Matthew D'Olimpio
This place is rad!! Great room. Lots of bright character. And the food is fantastic!! Perfect portion sizes, fresh, hot, flavorful, just awesome. Great service. Highly recommend.
Chasity Schultz
Love love love this place! It is definitely a hidden gem my sister brought me and my fiancé here for my birthday and we make sure to make a quick getaway and eat here at least 1 to 2 times a month the food is amazing and it has such a great South of the border twist the pancakes are absolutely phenomenal definitely try this place you will be amazed
Nancy R
Cute place, prices were decent, food was pretty good. I had the Hot Mess hash, consisting of scrambled eggs, potatoes, ham, green peppers, onions, in hollandaise sauce. Portion sizes are not bad- I definitely walked away full!
Barbara Abeln
We stopped be here on Sunday morning and had the best breakfast! Manny was an attentive waiter and the portions were huge. I highly recommend the pancakes with the Lingonberry butter.
Griffin Jerke
Came here as a family of 4 and loved everything. Great service, fair price, food was excellent, ambiance was unique. Wish we lived closer we would come more frequent.
Phil McWilliams
This is such a pleasant little hole in the wall to visit. It is always busy so expect a short wait to get a table, but worth it. Food is excellent, service is good and coffee is always hot and exceptional. Atmosphere is unique with all the paint by number pictures on the wall.
Kathie Glick
Eclectic but fun atmosphere. However, Google is missing it's mark when it recommends this place as a "Best Gluten Free Breakfast" in Minneapolis as there is very little options. The server was very taken aback that we were there expecting gluten free. He basically recommended we go someplace else. However, I had a delicious BST (bacon, spinach, tomato omelet) without toast and potatoes which made it gluten free. Their potatoes are breaded so they have gluten. They are busy which attests to their quality of food. But if you must have gluten free, know that there are not too many choices.
Julia Davis
The menu has such a great variety, truly something for everyone. The staff were friendly and our food came out in record time! I've been here twice now and let feeling very satisfied both times!
Ryan Wilson
Very cool little joint! Food was excellent and the stuff is extremely nice. It's a perfect tiny diner experience in the big city.
If you're eating at peak hours during the weekend, be ready for a wait.
** Pictured - Mexican Omelette **

You can dine in, but now they are taking reservations due to COVID. They have guests seated at every other table and are taking many precautions.
Very eclectic diner with a grandma’s house vibe. Super friendly owners and staff who were delighted and very grateful to have guests from other cities and states, like us who are from Milwaukee. We were chatting with one of the owners, Manuel, who gave us suggestions about the city. He was busy when we left and nearly ran out chasing us to say goodbye, thank us, and wish us a nice stay in Minneapolis.
Would definitely visit again. Carmel pecan roll highly recommended and the size of your head. Se habla español!!
Gracias por un rico desayuno y buen arranque para el día!
Cole Brenny
This is our neighborhood go to breakfast joint. We always order the breakfast poutin and the hot mess...With a pumkpkin waffle. Omg... This stuff is legit. I want to go down there at least once a week. New owners since 2017...and I do think the place is really clicking now. Food = awesome... Service = awesome. I'd definitely reccomend!
Aaron Dunlop
This place is neat inside - and the food was delicious. I had biscuits and gravy and it was one of the best I have ever had. We had to wait for 30 minutes to get in with a party of 6 during Sunday brunch - even the wait isn't bad.
Noemi Warner
We love this restaurant in the mornings family atmosphere my son love pancakes with chocolate chips, my partner loves all the food and I love huevos divorciados.
robin mfitness
AMAZING! My husband got the chicken fried steak and we loved the wild rice gravy! We also tried the toffee pancakes and I can’t even begin to describe the explosion of amazing ness 😂
We love love love this place! Customer service was great also!
Carlos
Tasty omelette. I got the Mexican omelette which is just chili but it was good the. The hash browns had no seasoning or flavor.
Brice F
The Hot Plate is a bit tucked away in this South Minneapolis neighborhood, but has really great breakfast. Having the more adventurous palate than my wife, I had the very tasty "Grand Marais" egg scramble with smoked trout whereas my wife had a more traditional omelette, which I found from tasting her food was even better. The atmosphere is tacky yet inviting and quirky like my mother in law's living room, decorated with ceramic figurines and 70's pop art. My only complaint is that I don't live closer to Bloomington Ave. & 52nd St to get up and eat breakfast here more often.
Queenie Cheung
This place is a hidden gem! it's tucked into the middle of a neighbourhood, but by the time we got there they were already lining up!! we waited about 30 mins for our table, but the wait was totally worth it! Our server was super friendly, he recommended us to try the mexican omlette and their fried chicken breakfast. So that's what we ordered :) they're also super well known for their gigantic and fluffy pancakes, so when we asked him which flavour to try, he told us he would order something off the menu for us - it was a PB & nutella pancake!
The portions are so big! I"m not used to eating so much food and rich food especially lol. the mexican omlette was great - for those who like that kick that you get from the mexican dishes would like this omlette for sure :) the toast you can tell they make in house - it's super fresh and soft!! the fried chicken, omg was probably one of the best ones I"ve had in a while. the creamy gravy/sauce that went with it perfectly paired the crispy chicken underneath. it was so good but i got SO FULL eating 1/3 into it lol. The pancake is no joke - 10" wide in diameter. it's like a pizza almost lol (a small one). i didn't use the butter that came with it, and had to scrape off a bit of the sauce coz it was getting a little too intense in sweetness, but man that pancake was so good.
Anyway loved the food, great little place in the neighbourhood and def. worth going for brunch if you are ever near that area. Fried chicken and pancake are both must tries!! :)
Jerry Lee
Odd eclectic place for a meal. Lots of 1960's charm. Fun games in the waiting area. I was here for late breakfast. Parking may be tough but a fun place to look around as you eat and digest your meal. I guess I would return if invited by a friend, but not in my top tier of eateries.
Perla N
Very toddler friendly. The serving sizes were plentiful and the atmosphere was great. I went on a weekday and there was no wait. Would definitely come back again. The food wasn't the best but it was pretty solid breakfast food.
Vincent NVB
I love the food here. The service is good too. It's not 5/5 stars because I think it's ridiculous in this day and age to charge for real maple syrup. That's a standard at most decent establishments for breakfast. And for a place like this that isn't a Denny's or Perkins, I would expect real maple syrup to be included.
Their lindenberry butter is scrumptious, love their omelettes.
Chai tea is far too sweet and isn't deep enough in flavor.
Ambience is terrific, definitely great if you have kids. I personally would offer Smuckers syrup on the side if kids prefer that and make 100% maple syrup the norm, especially given the number of adults I see there most days.
Mike M
Very eccentric. Interesting decor, with lots to look at. Lots of chsracter. The menu had some interesting options like peanut butter pancakes and caramel pecan pancakes. Both of us liked the pancakes. I had a Mexican breakfast hash of sorts that had good flavor but needed more spice.
Great little spot, I'll be back.
Maureen Campion
Such a cute place and the staff were so attentive!
Nora G
Great little breakfast spot! I love their biscuits and gravy. The pecan rolls are to die for. The decor is also great, love all the paint by numbers! Perfect casual breakfast spot.
Jennifer Karlgaard
Hands down the best spot for pancakes in Minneapolis. We live downtown and have plenty of options for good food, and yet we still make the 15 minute drive every weekend just to eat here. And all so we can get the blueberry pancakes. I'm not usually a huge pancake fan - I typically get an egg dish when we go out for breakfast, but these are the best pancakes I've had in my life. And now I get them every time we eat here. I've tried to find a place that rivals these pancakes, just so we don't have to drive on a Saturday or Sunday morning but I have yet to taste anything as delectable as these.
Dan Marino
Really, really good. Kitschy decor and vibe, but that's my vibe so I'm with it. Portions were appropriate to the price and food was tasty. Nothing fancy or fussy, but that isn't necessary. Had the BYO omelette; all veggies were fresh. Requested green salsa on the side and damn was that a great call. Flavorful and not spicy, possibly made in house. I'd be a regular if I lived in MSP.
Mindy Ward
Food is great with cheerful staff
Hugh Betcha
I've been here once (6/23/2017). The food tasted good enough but the menu selection is very limited and the overall value for what you get isn't very high. I mean c'mon, $9 for one waffle...with nothing else included? Yikes, that's one expensive batter mix.
Brooke Nelson
This place is amazing! The Reuben was delicious, would highly recommend. Right by Lake Nokomis, so I stopped over after my walk. What stuck out the most was the service. Such a kind and generous family who owns the place. Show them (and your belly) some love during COVID!
mastanachitta
Very nostalgic vibe with old board games and handheld gaming devices on the walls, as well as old books to read while you wait. I felt like a kid again. Food was phenomenal, especially the breakfast burritos. Portions are no joke. If u visit Minnesota u want to go here. Just trust me
Natasha Sanchez
Excellent food over all! I highly suggest the Greek scramble and thier pancakes. Their pancakes are the best I have had in a long time. Thier busciuts and gravy are odd... It tastes like the busciuts have cinnamon in them. It's a smaller place so make sure you get there early if you don't want to wait.
Jesse Carroll
This place has a lot of character with all of the pictures plastering the wall and the hand carved figurines all over the place. It can get kind of crazy at breakfast time. For vegetarians the breakfast options are limited but they have a nice veggie breakfast burrito that I keep going back to.
Steve Hartig
Twenty minute wait on a sunny Saturday but nice porch area. Good service. Wife particularly liked the scrambled eggs with smoked trout. The breakfast burrito was also good
Benesh Gillin
The food is great, but I was super impressed by their curb side. I parked and before I could call them there was someone already outside with my food. During the MN winter. Fantastic.
Jason Jacobsen
Was there in a Sunday morning, quite busy(40 min wait for a table). Blueberry pancakes are large and good, sausage patties are bland(very Minnesotan) so if you like spice/flavor get the chorizo instead.
Heather Cole
Friendly service and the house specialties are amazing. The pancakes are the best. I get one with lingonberry butter. Mmm I have been here 4 times this year so far. It's a little whole in the wall but it brings back so much nostalgia.....
Derek Henscheid
Busy local diner type fair with fast service. The complimentary coffee while you wait is a nice touch. We had the Mexican Omelet and Carnitas Scramble with a pecan roll to go. The chipotle style sauce on the omelet was delicious and the carnitas had just the right amount of kick. You get a lot of food, so don't be shocked by prices that might seem a bit high. The caramel sauce on the pecan roll was unnnggg good.
J Fro
The restaurant was busy and the service was okay, but the food was good. The consensus at our table was that the pancakes were the best food item, despite us ordering a variety of big entrees.
Brody Clemmer
This is diner food. The best kind possible. From the nicnacs all over the place and the generous pours of mimosas - this is a must go
Brian Thomas
Funky kitschy place. My wife and I went their for the first time. My wife loved her food and everything about this place. My pancakes were a little tough though. I might try them again sometime, maybe they were just having a bad pancake day.
J O
Such a cute little spot! Food is yummy, this is our go to after picking up our friends and family from the airport. The caramel apple French toast is amaaaazing!! And the staff is super friendly.
George Kell
Another great breakfast spot nestled in South Minneapolis. A little cramped, but the service and the food more than make up for it. Personally, I recommend the Caramel Pecan Roll, Grand Scramble Marais w/ trout, and their chicken fried steak is amazing - just to name a few items.
amber severson
Yummy food and delicious mimosas!! So glad we decided to try this spot we will be coming back!!:)
Gabrielle gibbons
Very small, kind of old school. Free coffee while waiting for a table is a plus. Delicious ,large pancakes, good sized menu.
They wouldnt let me take the cheese off of my scramble because it was a special..? Uh what?
Jessica Schnell
Edit: ordered south of the border dishes this time. Great choice! Perfect fried potatoes, love anything with corn tortillas, the cilantro and onion is so fresh and flavorful. Fluffy pancakes too!
Mattie Hawley
There was a wait, which is to be expected on a Saturday morning, everything was amazing. The waiting space had lots of space for the size of the restaurant, and had coffee. The food, the kitchi ambiance and the service were all perfect. I wouldn't hesitate to wait again.
Anthony Harrington
Awesome atmosphere!! Food was exactly what we were looking for.. super awesome wait staff. Definitely worth the wait when busy!! Don't go down the street to who knows what.. just wait for the next table and you won't be disappointed!!
stephanie martini
Cozy place with great food. The breakfast was tasty and filling. I love the atmosphere and all the art. Cool place to go.
Aaron Johnson
One of my favorite places to eat breakfast/brunch when visiting Minneapolis. The service is always fast and friendly and the food is always good. Would definitely reccomend the biscuits and gravy.
Elle Bea
My hunky hubs and I ate breakfast at Hot Plate this morning. We were blown away by: 1. The mimosas- for less than $6, you get a fabulous amount of champagne, and 2. The decor- artwork and collectibles galore, We loved the OR&W Berries collectibles from the 70s! When we arrived there was a short wait, wasn’t a problem because we got mimosas to enjoy outside while we waited. I loved the Hot Mess Hash. My hubs had the huevos divorciados and he said it was as appetizing as a pickle or a hard boiled egg. I’ll stick with the Hot Mess Hash.
czc “nelly” Khol
Hot Plate is a wonderful restaurant. I enjoyed the blueberry pancakes and everything else that I ordered. The service was just as wonderful. The prices are very reasonable as well. I'm not even from Minnesota, but I will be back.
Aayush Ratna Tuladhar
Can't go wrong with Hot Plate for Brunch. Pretty quentitisential Minnesotan breakfast joint with flair of progressiveness. Great food and service. Weekend brunch ( 9 - 11) can be bit busy, but totally worth it.
Amanda Drews
This place has THE BEST eggs benedict I've had in my life. The potatoes it came with were also amazing and I don't even like potatoes! Good service, cute place. Highly recommend.
Jason Fouts
Despite being a very small place, the wait was apparently less than 15 minutes at about 9am on a Saturday. I, fortunately, was seated immediately as a seat had just opened at the 4 seat bar area. Coffee was decent, but the cups were small which wasn't a big deal as there was always someone seeing to the level of coffee. Interesting decor, an overabundance of kitschy paintings and statuettes. Reminds me of visiting a kindly aunt who can't let go of her knick-knacks. :-) I enjoyed looking around at all the different flavors of interesting. Unfortunately, I was seated next to some of it. I am a large man and felt as if one wrong move would knock multiple somethings over. Quarters were also tight with the other patrons at the bar. Some would find that cozy with a breakfast date, but my claustrophobia interfered and made me uncomfortable about not having a full range of motion with my arms. I did not factor space issues in to my rating, I'm just looking out for others - sit at a table or a booth if you have mild personal space issues like I do. Something that did detract for me personally was the stool size in the bar area. I did not fit well on the teeny seat of the stool. I felt as if I was going to fall off the entire meal and I was uncomfortable. The only other thing that detracted was that the dishes from the last patron were moved to the other side of the bar and left there. I was staring at half a cup of coffee and a plate of uneaten pancakes for most of the time I was there.
The food was simple and good which I love; going overboard on ingredients almost always ruins a dish. I opted for the Mexican influenced part of the menu. I had the Huevos Divorciados, a dish of fried eggs with two kinds of salsa along with black beans and crispy, diced breakfast potatoes. I particularly enjoyed the potatoes as they were hot and crispy. Most places make these potatoes mushy. Not here. The tortillas that came with it weren't my style, but whatevs. Also, the food came FAST! I had barely finished my initial small cup of coffee and it was being placed in front of me. The portion size was large enough for a person like me (I tend to overeat), and the ingredients were simple. I saw some pancakes at the next spot over and they looked delicious! Next time, pancakes... next time. Overall a positive experience and the price was definitely right. For 13 bucks, I got a good sized meal and plenty of coffee and water. I'd recommend.
paul kernes
Buckwheat pumpkin waffle is ridiculously good. Staff was prompt and food received quickly even when busy .Been here many times when in the cities. Love this place.
Sai Rohit Chimakurthi
I love this place and I wanted my boyfriend to try it out. The pancake was delicious and the hash brown I ordered was great.
Joaquin Muñoz
This is an odd little place that could either creep you out, or just be strange and eclectic. Art and decor is interesting, and I add really taken by all the cool lamps they had.
Food is tasty and creative.
Staff was fast and friendly.
I dig this place! Come check it out.
David Hammond
I have loved meeting with my friends here for years! I am so thankful that they are working hard to still provide a wonderful atmosphere while keeping their patrons physically safe.
Colleen Regan
Food was good, exceptional portions and service was great. With the place being busy but smaller it was very warm bordering almost uncomfortable inside. The front door should've been propped open since it was such a nice fall day. 🍁🍂🍃 …
Kyle N.
I'm a big fan of Hot Plate, it's one of my favorite breakfast spots in Minneapolis. I like their pancakes, cinnamon rolls, breakfast burritos and breakfast poutine.
Kiki Cooley Lund
Great service!!! Food is good, pretty standard diner style breakfast. Really loved that adding one (huge) flapjack was an option and that it was so delicious!
T Dutches
The food is delicious, I went twice in one week and ordered the eggs Benedict. The hospitality is warm and welcoming. I was visiting from NJ, and I definitely look forward to visiting in the future.
Brian Farley
Delicious food! Great service, always had a full cup of coffee. Comfortable family setting. Will definitely be back!
Craig Berdie
Great food reasonably priced with friendly staff - what more can you hope for. I loved the caramelized pecan pancakes, the North Shore scramble and the fried potatoes were excellent.
Jonathan Kreeger
Good food, good service, and great people. Great local place to grab breakfast!
Jo Nelson
Always a favorite! This place is a gem. Great food and fun atmosphere.
maricela Arellano Hernandez
I been coming to the hot plate for over 4 years and I love it, I fall in love with this place from day one ., not just the food but the place makes me feel like home, and the owner is a beautiful and kind lady and the servers as well, I highly recommend this place don’t believe the BAD reviews you read those bad reviews come from an Empty soul and negative people
James Anderson
This place was suggested to us by our Airbnb hosts for breakfast. "Try the poutine" they said. Now having a bad first experience with poutine i was skeptical but "Sure" I said. I will give it a second chance.... It was amazing, so so bad for you... But so good for your soul.
Ronald Tisdale Hine
Yum! Blueberry Pancakes with real maple syrup. Bacon a+, Soy Late just right! Eggs with salmon too good. Omelets are great. Minnesota’s best collection of paint by number art. Staff generally excellent. Alas, only breakfast, they used to be full menue with magnificent pot roast. Bingo still available.
Ricky Ray
Great atmosphere, great service. Cute lil restaurant. Had the biscuits and gravy wasn't expecting the gravy to be sweet, not my thing but different strokes for diff folks🙂. …
Duane Lamb
We came here based on other reviews.
We split the Mexican omelet which was recommended by our waiter. It was very good, covered in a chipotle sauce which tasted like enchilada sauce. Yum!
Barbara Mcdonald
My eggs Benedict was good, but potatoes needed some onions and maybe some green pepper also. They were pretty blah.
Sean McGinnis
One of my favorite breakfast places in the city. Everything I've had had been fantastic.
Ethan Stein
Fun kitschy place to get breakfast. Comfort food staples, (bacon, eggs, potatoes). Nothing adventurous, but done well, and at a reasonable price.
If your grandma lived in Lake Wobegon and collected those little porcelain statuettes, this is what it would be like.
j Gatewood
Eclectic environment with eggs.Good overall experience
M T
It's a restaurant with an eclectic atmosphere, tasty food with hearty portion sizes, and very reasonable prices. Not much to complain about at all!
Corey Chang
First time trying hot plate, The food was very delicious, service was Great. The unfortunate thing was they messed up my order, but they did not hesitate to adjust my bill. I would definitely go back again!! Thank you Hot Plate.
Neil S
Cozy yummy spot. Great for brunch w friends! So popular on the weekends!
Lauren Christianson
Really good food & decently priced. Service can be great or not so great depending on the server. Definitely get the caramelized pecan pancakes!
Juan Rock
an eclectic little mom and pop eatery. the pumpkin waffle was delicious. And the Grand Marais scramble with trout, was awesome. I will definitely be going there again.
Matt Edison
Place is super cool with little lawn gnomes and paintings all on the walls fun to look at.
Food was excellent and the service was quick and friendly. Highly recommend will be back for sure.😀 …

Funky atmosphere, great prices, tasty food, coffee is fine, fun tunes and sweet staff.
Jeanne Garry
Amazing food, great mimosas! Service fast and server very friendly and efficient! Fun atmosphere!! Will come back!
Ryan Tinklenberg
Amazing omelettes and great atmosphere. I would eat here every day
Joseph Morehead
Been here twice. Food is good, just what I expected as the menu descriptions, good. Fresh made and tastes good. But there were ants crawling around the wall and table both times.
Expect a picnic. Good food though.
Nick Fastner
The best eggs Benedict I’ve ever had in my life! I wish they would either expand or get a second location because the only issue I have is it’s so amazing there is a wait but it’s so worth it!
Alia E. Abboud
Truly amazing breakfast! I had the breakfast poutine and pancakes. The portions are big and I can’t say enough about the quality of the food!
Ethan Healy
Pumpkin buckwheat waffle, carnitas scramble, homemade corn beef hash were all great. Service was splendid. Would recommend without reservation.
Christina VanderClute
Delicious food and stellar service: a winning combination all around! Try the famous pancakes or (and!) the Breakfast Poutine, you won't regret it.
Parker Jones
Went there for lunch a few weeks ago and had a Rachel sandwich which I split with my partner. They were very nice and put the two slices into two baskets. Can't wait to have breakfast there someday!
Darrell Gonzalez
Great place, nice niche spot, quick service my food was ready within 10 minutes! popular spot so if you have big group plan ahead. Loved it

Stumbled upon this delightful soireso by chance! Our lucky day, Mother had Egges Bendictine, while I got the daily special. Everyone there was white (except for the help), which was a real plus plus for us.Highly recommend (except for the colored help) otherwise a solid 5.
Andrew Dehmer
Great spot. Had the Carmel apple French toast it was amazing. Staff was very friendly.
Kaylee L'Heureux
Service was good and food was also very good, only word of caution would be- do not go if you are in a hurry and want a quick bite, it's a small place and very popular, can wait up to 45 minutes. But if you don't mind waiting, they do offer self service coffee!
Amanda Iversen
Absolutely delicious. A slight wait to get a table, but once you order the food comes fast. Definitely would recommend for breakfast on Saturday mornings!
Sarah Grace Vander Schaaf
Pretty good food, but service wasn't great. I never got a refill on my coffe, nobody asked how our food was or if we needed anything. Not rude, but not friendly.
Candace Iverson
very good food will definitely go here again
Shane Andrie
Amazing brunch, interesting decor, and always friendly staff. If wait times are and issue, than earlier the better, otherwise enjoy a complementary coffee under the pergola.

Eggs Benny was good. Service was excellent. When you have a little one, you appreciate quick proficient service. Atmosphere is fun and cozy. Busy place when it opens.
KeriAnn Hollerud
Lovely small establishment, and wait on a Sunday wasn't terrible. There was coffee available during your wait as well. Had eggs benedict and a pancake with lingonberry butter. Delightful!
Michiko Robinson
There was a wait here but family owned and nostalgia everywhere. Had the veggie omelette and it was ok. Nothing to say you will return again. Ive had better but it's a cute place.
S KIM
great place. Visit toward their closing time so you don't have to wait!! I don't do well with cheese so I ordered omelet and it was filed with fresh veggies. Absolutely loved it.
Maribel Becerra
Excellent Service!! The food is delicious!! I have been there for breakfast and also for Taco Fridays and I absolutely love it!!! Everyone is so friendly!! You must try this!!

Grand Marais was very good. Just the right amount of cream cheese. Very friendly and expedient service. Loved all of the vintage paintings, lamps, and figurines. Total flashback.

The best pancakes, awesome decor, and fabulous staff. I'm so sad I live so far because I'd be here every day! I've been searching for the best pancakes forever and it's six hours away. 😭 …

Delicious Mexican omelet 🤤
Cute atmosphere …
Paige Latham Didora
Try their Friday Taco night. Seriously, it's amazing.
Umar Williams
Fun decor that takes a bit to take in, but it's worth it. Fast service, fast well cooked food, and portion size comparable to their prices. Only thing missing is a gluten-free option.
Ken Graczak
Try the pecan roll, you won't be disappointed.
Michelle Sheeler
Very popular fun place for breakfast. Worth the wait to get in. Fun atmosphere. BYO omelet and home fries and toast. Yum. Also tasted pecan caramel pancakes. Also yum.
Molly Reisman
Hot Plate is a fun breakfast and lunch spot with a ton of character. For starters, the food is tasty--try anything with their homemade salsa, yum.
It's a cute place too, but beware if you are clown-phobic. The walls are covered in paint-by-numbers masterpieces and there is plenty of kitsch everywhere else too.
I don't currently live in Minnesota, but when I visit I make a point of visiting Hot Plate. You should too.

Well worth the drive to this place. Easily the best breakfast I had. And I would travel 4 hours to the Cities again to have another plate.
Sal Thegal
The food is fast and absolutely delicious. Highly recommend the Mexican Omelet or the biscuits and gravy. Casual and great prices for a unique neighborhood spot.
Matthew Hoiland
Terrific staff. Fantastic pancakes (lingonberry butter, for the win). Our favorite breakfast place hands down. Tip: substitute a pancake for the house fries for a little extra $$$.
Emily Zahasky
Always a great place to go for breakfast. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu!
Priscilla Munzon
Great place! Waited about 40 min to be seated since it was Sunday. Food came out less than 10 min after we ordered and it did not disappoint.
Lisa Dunn
Go here. Get food. You'll be glad you did. The atmosphere is kitchy, the food is solid.
Kallen Kaiser
Love this eclectic little place. Get here early if you don't want to wait. Service was phenomenal.
Brad Hanson
Neighborhood gem. Friendly staff. Very quick service. Nice portions. Coffee is ok. Corned beef hash on weekdays is tasty. Potatoes perfect.
Tony Venne
Super friendly and fast service. Homemade sauces were delicious and made every dish we consumed. Get the lingonberry butter on everything.
Stefan C
Small town eatery with a unique vibe and energy all it's own. Great food and welcome twists on classic favorites. Great staff even when busy!
Mike Ferguson
Worth the 30-minute wait. The pumpkin buckwheat waffle is probably the second best waffle I've ever eaten outside of short stack Eatery in Madison Wisconsin
Cris Croissant
Perfectly crisp bacon and thick delicious pancakes. Awesome service despite tables nearly full. Will be back soon!
Jon Grebner
Fantastic, high quality food with a ridiculous but fun decor. Don’t miss breakfast at Hot Plate. There will be a wait, but it will be worth it.
Brandie Tilander
Hot plate always has a wait and it is completely worth that wait! This is one of my favorite brunch spots and I have never had a bad meal here!
Jason Lucarelli
Good food, interesting menu, great service. A tasty and memorable brunch spot. I love their tex-mex inspired items.
Anna Zagaria
I love Hot Plate! They have the best food and really friendly, helpful staff. The food comes out VERY quickly! They give generous portions and they have fun decor!
Alex La Fontaine
I grew up in northern Minnesota and my parents had a breakfast place, so when it comes to breakfast restaurants I'm very picky. That said, Hot Plate is one of the few breakfast places in the twin cities I've found that exceeds my unreasonably high breakfast standards.
Laurel Marsh
Wonderful goofy 70s decor and great diner staples with some fun extras like breakfast poutine. If you go on a weekend expect a little wait but its worth it!
Don Cue
Such a fun place! Funky atmosphere, great service and food. Definitely will come again. Skip Dennys and have breakfast here. {Note: breakfast only is served.)

Blueberry short stack with chorizo. Great flavors.
