Vegan fried chicken?? Yes!! I’m glad I got to go here, I haven’t had fried chicken quite like this since going vegan. Great flavor and texture. The 3 piece bucket was great and came with tots and a biscuit. The biscuit and vegan honey butter were superb. I also really liked the BBQ and Ranch sauces. It reminds me of when I used to eat at KFC back in the day. We also got their new fried mozzarella sticks, but they were just okay. The cheese is more gooey than stringy, and are a bit pricey for what they are. The chicken sandwiches were also very good and the sauces on those were very good. Perfect for a vegan chicken craving. The staff was also very nice.

Glad I tried this place out. If your in need of vegan food or just want to try something different then this is definitely a place to try. Service was nice and informative. Biscuit was good but the butter was lackluster for being an additional charge. The bowl was pretty filling but you have to pay extra for the toppings which I think it needed for that extra finesse (my extra jalapenos literally had little no spice)

Get your all-vegan fried chicken meal hear. Everything from the mains to the sides is recreated without animal products. They even made the chicken into different shapes to match the different cuts. The meat was tender, and the breading was crispy. If you get the macaroni and cheese, I recommend adding the extra crispies. The malts were also a good addition. If you are not vegan and like fried chicken, give this a try. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

As a person trying to eat more vegan, this is great! It’s doesn’t taste like the best fried chicken sandwich I’ve ever had but it definitely is the closest to real I’ve eaten. The breading and sauce are absolutely fantastic, the inside looks odd but it is what it is. Tots are nice and salty. Service was fast and polite. Prices aren’t outrageous like everywhere else right now. Curious to try the steak bites or Buffalo chicken next time. Would love to see a black bean burger or something similar down the road. Thanks!

It's soo good! It doesn't matter if you're vegan, it's just good food. Seriously. We brought a large bucket to a family gathering and they loved it - and no one else is vegetarian much less vegan. The crispy chicken sandwich is my favorite. The shakes are tasty, I've had a couple different flavors. Note: These do not taste like milk-based shakes. If your dish has the option to 'add crunchies,' do it.

Phenomenal! I've been veg for 3 years and this whole meal blew my mind. The medium bucket was more than enough food for two. The service was fast, the chicken was prepared to crispy perfection, but don't sleep on the mashed potatoes and gravy! I haven't had gravy this good in years. My partner is a meat-eater and loved this meal as well. Y'all better watch out, I'll be back :)

The crisp on that “chicken” was incredibly impressive! As were the tots, which could have just been phoned in but absolutely were not! 🤤 My partner loved the chocolate coconut based shake as well. And the mac & cheese? To die for. Incidentally, we got takeout and had a picnic with it in nearby cemetery. 10/10 best date of my life.

Gave Herbie's a try for Dining Out for Life today. I saw on that website that Herbie's was one of few restaurants committed to donating 100% of profits from today. The restaurant is small and currently doesn't have dine-in. Heard that starts next week. I ordered the chicken sandwich with tator tots. The employee was very friendly and efficient. With a fountain pop and tip, my total was $15. Waited maybe 10 minutes and my order was ready to go. It smelled delicious and looked very tasty. Honestly, I was a couple of bites in before I realized it wasn't actually fried chicken!! I didn't really research the menu, just knew they were participating in a good cause. My first foray into the non-meat meats and I was very pleasantly surprised. The tots were well seasoned. I would definitely recommend this little gem to carnivores and herbivores!

OMG! I can honestly say, this is the absolute best plant-based Buffalo chicken sandwich I’ve ever had. The tots were really good as well. Really good customer service, really good atmosphere. I can’t wait to go back and try the other menu items. I highly recommend this place! Two thumbs way up!

I haven't been to their restaurant yet, but I had their fried chicken and gravy at the State Fair. I have not had anything so close to fried chicken since becoming a vegetarian about 5 years ago. My mouth is watering right now just thinking about it. My meat eating husband also loved it. RUN, don't walk, to get that vegan fried "chicken"!!!!!

The food here is knock your socks off incredible and the people were absolute darlings. We were so happy with every aspect of our experience, I can't wait to go back. I got the chicken bowl and my partner got a sandwich with tots, and both were fresh, hot, and of such incredible quality that I'll be dreaming about not-chicken for weeks!

I am not a vegan but I often dabble in vegan food. I chose this place since I was in the food for crunchy fried chicken and soul food. Somehow this ended up in my search and since it was rated 4.9 stars I decided to try it out. The food was actually very good I must say, it came very close to real fried chicken but without the grease (slight bummer). My only knock was that I literally ate a bucket of chicken, tator tots, biscuits and Mac and cheese and didn’t feel full at all. I am not sure if that is because of the food being vegan or my food intake earlier in the day. Either way it was worth the 30 minute drive from my house to get some food. Worth the price

Great food! I was so happy to get to finally try this place out and it didn't disappoint! It seems expensive when you first order, but when you get your food you realize that it is actually a very generous amount, especially for vegan "fast" food. The only thing that wasn't great was the buscuit, it was kind of hard but it wasn't a huge deal because everything else was perfect. My non-vegan mom was impressed with everything she tasted. She especially loved the mashed potatoes and gravy.

Very misleading. Everything on the menu should lead with the words VEGAN on it. The Thai restaurant near by was closed down, thought I’d try some Fried Chicken (notice the spelling?). I ordered a chicken bowl and took it home, didn’t realize this place does not actually sell real fried chicken. For a little under $15 you can be easily deceived and still be hungry an hour later.

Had an amazing experience getting Herbie's vegan fried chicken! My friend and I ordered the medium bucket of chicken to share and we had plenty of food. The medium bucket came with 4 chicken pieces on a bed of tater tots, 2 sides (we got coleslaw and mac'n cheese), 2 biscuits with maple butter and 2 sauces of your choice. We got butcher sauce and honey mustard. Both sauces were delicious! The plant based fried chicken was to die for! It was perfectly crispy and well seasoned. I believe you could fool some typical carnivores into believing it was chicken. I would take anyone here to eat. I will defiantly be back next time I'm in the city.

We ordered a Medium Bucket, which was way too much food for the two of us - which is a compliment, because the price was great. We loved the fried "chicken" - you can see why the Herbivorous Butcher is doing so well. We weren't over the moon about the mashed potatoes, but they were very much like potatoes from the big American fried chicken chain, so that's just a matter of taste. Our biscuits were a bit overcooked/dry, but we'd definitely try them again and see if it was just that batch. Service was quick and friendly, and we were lucky to get a seat in the tiny dining room. We'd love to visit Herbie's again.

If I could do half stars this would be a 4.5! I think this is a great new addition to the vegan food options in the Twin Cities. The chicken was fantastic - super crunchy and very full of rich umami flavor. The mac n cheese with crispies on top was also great! The medium bucket was definitely enough for two people to share. The only part of the meal I didn't enjoy was the biscuit - it was really dense and not very flavorful. The wait was a bit long even on a slow Thursday evening, so I hope they're able to get they system working a bit quicker as they have more experience. Otherwise a great little place!

If you want vegan chicken that is the best I've ever had go to Herbie Butcher's Fried Chicken. The chicken meal with tator tots and biscuits was "AWESOME"! Their vegan mac n cheese was also fabulous. When I got home I warmed everything up and it couldn't have been better. Next time I will try their coleslaw with the meal and get one of their desserts. Hopefully they will be open soon 7 days a week!👍❤😁

The absolute BEST vegan fried chicken I’ve had since becoming vegetarian 4 years ago! 10/10 would recommend! Loved all of the food and their special sauce! The biscuit and maple butter also just melted in your mouth. Cannot rave enough about this place!

It can’t be understated how cool of a thing these folks are doing. The way we’ve produced and consumed food for such a long time has been beyond cruel to animals. Herbie Butcher is making these foods taste delicious while being entirely plant based - and they’re not pretentious about it either. If you’re a meat lover and reconsidering give them a shot. The world of Plant based food is incredible. Food was amazing. Customer service was really friendly and the inside of the restaurant was beautifully decorated. Kudos.

this place rules. ROBUST vegan food. KFC style buckets are so tasty. the chicken is crispy and nicely seasoned. mashed potatoes are super creamy. the Nashville hot sauce is pleasantly spicy and a little sweet. only a few places to sit, but that’s fine. also, they were giving out free sundaes (made with coconut milk?) with bucket purchases when we went.

Not a vegan but loved the food. Clearly crafted with care. The chicken breading was superb. Stayed really crunchy even after being in the box for 30 minutes. Didn’t get soggy ever and never fell off the “meat.” Reminded me more of what you’d find on really good southern fried chicken than what you’re used to finding on a chicken strip, and that’s a good thing. The fake chicken had a decent texture but not much flavor. Didn’t matter though. It’s all about the breading and the dipping sauces. The sides were really great too. The biscuits especially, and I’m not a big biscuit guy. If you like fried chicken and soul food, you will like this place. Oh and you get a ton of food. The large bucket was enough for 4 meals. Worth the slightly high prices! Well done Herbie.

I'm a little mixed. I really liked the food and was shocked it was vegan. Good going!! The mixed part is that there is only one small banner on the first page that says "enjoy our vegan plant based foods". After that, NOTHING says it's ALL vegan. Just says fried chicken all over the website and nothing to say that it was vegan. Little frustrated that it seems like a bait and switch. I really liked it and think you could be more up front about it.

The fried chicken and the biscuits are my favorite! The buckets come with tater tots, so I definitely recommend picking a different side if you want to try everything (though the tater tots ARE super yummy and crispy)! The staff was very friendly and the service was quick. Highly recommend!

There aren't enough stars in the galaxy to leave a proper review. We went to Minneapolis over the weekend with one of main reasons being to try Herbie butchers fried chicken. we were not let down. We were blown away. This is the best tasting fried chicken I ever had in my life. just imagine the best fried chicken you ever had minus all the grease /tendons / ligaments . I can't talk about this anymore because I'm starting to drool and I'm about to cry because I want a 6piece bucket and can't find a door dasher that will deliver it to Chicago.

My dream restaurant come true. The fried 'chicken' has the perfect crunch - not soggy, not oily, not crumbly, just right. The biscuit is downright sinful, I wish my homemade biscuits were this good. The Mac N Cheese is heavenly. The Nashville hot sauce is absolutely the choice to go with the chicken - sour, sweet, peppery, and a bit of kick.

Whoa!!! Let me first off out myself as a non-vegan. That being said, I’ve tried my fair share of meat substitutes and plant-based options. I need you all to know that this place has been THE BEST I’ve tried. My 11 year old son, who will call out something for being a poor imitation in a second, absolutely LOVED everything we had. We tried the medium bucket with honey mustard and BBQ sauces, mac&cheese and coleslaw, and then also had a chocolate malt. Unfortunately, they were out of biscuits when we stopped by. However, I’ll gladly make the trip from the suburbs (I know, I know 🤢) soon again to give them a try. My kiddo scarfed down the mac&cheese is mere seconds. The chicken was coated beautifully with the best crunch my ears have experienced, and the coleslaw is unlike those cloyingly sweet ones places tend to serve. This was definitely on the more savory side! The sauces were absolutely delicious with amazing flavor, too! But I need to tell everyone about the malt. THE MALT. I cannot recommend it enough. I cannot begin to tell you how much I loved the chocolate malt. LET ME COUNT THE WAYS. Dear lord. Praise be. I’m not the religious type, but I’m about 99.99% sure I had a religious experience when that delicious liquid came in contact with my tastebuds. Wow. The staff was super friendly, and everyone in line seemed really excited to try the food. Truthfully, it more than exceeded my expectations, and I cannot wait to bring everyone I know here. 💚🌱

The second best fried chicken I've had in the twin cities and it was vegan! The mac and cheese was a little salty but the silky umami gooeyness of it(and the lack of lactose induced suffering) absolutely made up for that. We were served quickly despite the fact that the restaurant was pretty busy. Absolutely worth the short wait. We'll be back!

The chicken and the sauces (sampled all of them) are tasty though the ranch tasted overly dilly like a tarter sauce. The biscuit and mac & cheez textures are great though the flavors are pretty plain. Tater tots were well seasoned without being over seasoned. And the strawberry milk shake with shortcake pieces is decent (the straws are way too small for milkshakes). Overall it was a cool experience and I enjoyed it. Good pricing for the portion sizes.

This is a great place to have a vegan meal. I am not a vegan so this was a new experience for me. We tried the crispy chicken wrap, the crispy chicken sandwich and the Mac and cheese. I was not a fan of the food, but I have never had any vegan food before so i did not know what to expect. I am glad I had this experience, and at least tried this place, since there were great reviews. The person who helped us was very nice, I just wished the menu would say that this is a vegan restaurant, I knew this going in but for someone who didn't, it might be a shock.

I think this moves up the list to top vegan restaurant I had thought the Vegan fried chicken I had in Nashville would never be topped I was wrong. Coming from somebody who is not a vegan everybody should try this place. Had a bucket, Mac and cheese and the tater tot base. I can't stress enough how good the food is here. Also the staff is super friendly and very welcoming.

I’ve been meat-free for 6 years and vegan for 3 years, and the only thing I have ever truly missed is fried chicken. The longing is over, because Herbie B’s hits the spot! Their vegan fried chicken is crunchy, tender, and flavorful, and perfectly pairs with all their homemade sauces. The mac, coleslaw, tater tots, and biscuits with maple butter were also all incredible. I can’t wait to try the malts! The space is very small, so I’d recommend taking food to go. Their sauce cups and a majority of their takeaway containers are compostable too, which is amazing!

After months of talking about trying this, we ordered delivery today via GrubHub. Got the 6 piece dragon dusted with tots and mac and cheese. Texture of the chicken is spot on and the dragon dust gave a nice kick. Absolutely delicious. Will definitely return.

As a lover of all things thb, I had high hopes for our first experience here after having some of the vegan fried chicken at the state fair. It was a rather mediocre visit, waited 45 minutes for food after ordering. The tots were cold and the chicken was dry. Couldn’t get extra biscuits because they were short that day, elote side dish was meh. Mac was fabulous. They forgot to give us maple butter for biscuits, no one at counter to talk to and chef just looked at me and rolled her eyes… then the cashier came to search the bag/table to ensure there was no maple butter before giving to us. If you plan to dine in, don’t. I’m we used napkins for plates (which we had to ask for along with silverware for our sides). It should be advertised as a take-out only spot.

I cannot say enough good things about Herbie's! I'm so glad to have been able to eat their delicious food on opening weekend. Well worth a wait in line on a muggy day. The chocolate malt? Exquisite. The touch of coconut sent it over the edge for me. It was rich and delicious without being overly heavy and sweet like its dairy counterpart. The tots were exactly what you could hope for. Mac n cheese was superb. I would not have believed it was vegan. Sauces (butcher and honee mustard) were perfect compliments to the fare. And. The. Chicken. Tender, juicy, crispy, salty and seasoned. Made me wish I had more room in my stomach! Some might say that Herbie's running out of strawberry shakes and biscuits was a downside, but for me it is another reason to find an excuse to return. I hear they have a chicken biscuit sammie? Sign me up for next time

Great place! Small, a little pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for. The chicken was crispier and more filling than anything you get at other fast food places. And vegan too! Sauces seemed like they were all made in house. Tater tots are the best I’ve had! The biscuit was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Great mac and cheese. I got a small bucket and a Buffalo chicken sandwich to split with someone and it was a ton of food. The sandwich was awesome as well. Staff were helpful and nice. Food came out fast. Definitely looking to come back soon!

For years I’ve longed for a spicy vegan chicken sandwich and today Herbie Butcher’s nailed it. The crunchy outside, juicy inside, soft bun and ranch sauce nearly had me weeping with gratitude. Other menu items that are amazingly tasty are any form of fried chicken, Butcher sauce, tater tots, biscuits and maple butter. Order extra. If you don’t you’ll regret it.

Enjoyed the chicken with the barbecue sauce and honee mustard. Thought the biscuits were good and especially with the maple butter. Mac and cheese was just as good as on their food truck (herbivorous butcher). The sandwiches are always a good option and the shakes are great in the summer. Must try for anyone open to eating a vegan meal or anyone not afraid of eating some tasty plants.

Love what they've got going on here on the whole--amazing faux-chicken, biscuits, and sauces. The maple butter is also spot on. My only gripe is that nobody in my family is a fan of their other sides options. The tots are good but too oily and salty to have as a main side without getting gut ache. The mashed potatoes are likely made with a powder base and have a from-the-box artificial taste to them that we all found really off-putting. We ended up not eating them. The creamed corn was okay, but nobody at our event wanted more than a small portion, so much of that also went to waste. We'd happily substitute those sides for more biscuits, but that's not an option since those are in high demand, which doesn't surprise me considering how the other sides fared with our vegan family. As much as we like the food here overall, we've been very hesitant to order buckets because we known we'll be stuck with sides we don't like and will toss out. If different--maybe lighter sides--were offered (collard greens?), we'd order from here a lot more often. Here's to hoping!

I'm not vegan but dabble in vegan eating because it's fun to support these adventurous businesses! I ordered the small bucket, expecting a pricey dinner for one, but between the massive pieces of chick'n and mountain of tots, it ended up being two solid meals for me! Taste and texture was spot on for fried chicken, but folks who say this will fool carnivores have to be kidding -- as soon as you look at the 'meat' itself you know it's not meat. It still tastes good though so who cares! The tots and maple butter were excellent. I'll concur with other reviewers that I couldn't get the biscuit to soften back up after pickup. The potatoes and gravy weren't my favorite, but I can be picky with gravy. My friends say they adore Herbie's potatoes and gravy so must just be my taste buds. Overall worth the price and definitely worth trying if you want to see that fried chicken can be made vegan!

This isn't just great vegan food, it's great food period. My boyfriend, who eats meat, said it was some of the best fried chicken he had in his life. Portions are huge. We got creamed corn, mashed potatoes and biscuits on the side - all of which were incredible (the biscuits were heaven). Takeout was super quick, I think I waited 10 minutes on a Sunday evening.

We tried Herbie’s last night and it was fantastic! My husband is a vegetarian and I’m an omnivore. I was impressed by how much this tasted and smelled like fried chicken. The batter was crisp and even remained crispy today when we ate the leftovers. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I wasn’t crazy about the sides. I ordered the mashed potatoes with gravy and the creamed corn. I really hoped for a slaw. The meal was rich and filling but needed some acid. A slaw would have made it perfect. We are a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 small children) and ordered the large bucket. However, the medium would have been fine for us. There was a lot of food and it was filling. So glad to have this gem in South Minneapolis. We highly recommend it!

Smells exactly like real chicken. We went within the first few weeks of their opening and they had run out of biscuits but made up for it with more chicken pieces, which was appreciated. The tater tots were very salty but that's the only downside. The chicken was absolutely delicious- fragrant, flavorful, perfectly crisp. Mac and cheese was the best vegan Mac and cheese we've had in the twin cities. I also enjoyed the Cole slaw. It was peppery and not too vinegary. Honey mustard was yum and their specialty sauce was a great creamy and tangy accompaniment. Cannot wait to go back.

Absolutely delicious! We got the medium bucket and a smashed bowl. The bucket ended up being enough food for 4 people. We ordered it for two and had tons of left overs. The chicken and tots were so crispy and the creamed corn was out of this world. My husband is a meat eater and even he loved it!

Decent. The sauce on the sandwich is strange. I'll be back. ...Was back. It's ok. I can't quite explain it, but I don't really like it; something with the grease. For being plant based, it's phenomenal and worth your time to check out for sure. Even if you are a die-hard meat eater, it's worth a try just for the experience.

I love my comfort food, dabbling into veganism and heard great things about this restaurant. The employees were very welcoming and my food came out quick. I ordered the jalapeno cheddar biscuit, smash'd bol and a pumpkin pie shake. I was very satisfied with the presentation of the food (the drawing on my shake totally made my day), taste and the amount of food. I highly recommend.

I’ve wanted to try herbie chicken since they opened. Today was the day, I drove from Iowa and it was well worth it! I got a small bucket that comes with 2 pieces of chicken, tots (you get A LOT), a side (I got the mashed potatoes, yum), 1 sauce and a biscuit with maple butter. I got the Nashville hot sauce as I’ve been craving Nashville hot chicken since I stopped eating meat, it was delicious and spot on with texture (so crunchy) and flavor. By the way, the biscuits are the best I’ve ever had! I also got the Buffalo chicken sandwich (5 out of 5 - get that sandwich, it’s amazing) and original chicken sandwich (have yet to try, but can guarantee it’ll be awesome.) I had plenty of leftovers to bring home in the cooler. Give this awesome vegan restaurant a try if you are ever in the area or feel like a road trip like me.

Cool spot with great vegan food. There are so many options on the menu so everyone can get what they’re looking for. They also offer some rotating items so that you can always try something new. Cant wait to go back!

It was my first time getting Herbie’s last night and it was amazing! I was the only vegetarian of my party of 4, but we all enjoyed it. In fact, it was their idea to get Herbie’s and it didn’t disappoint 3 meat-every-meal peeps! Each of the sauces was wonderful, and the consensus was that the butcher sauce was best, hands down. We got the mac and cheese (this was an additional wait of 20 minutes - wonderful communication about this - totally worth the wait) and the slaw and they were fantastic. I’ve never had real fried chicken, but just FYI the Herbie’s chicken is super filling. The staff was fantastic and fast, and I’m glad there were so many people frequenting it last night. I’m excited for the biscuits next time and tots. Thanks Herbie’s folks!

Amazing food, the chicken honestly could have fooled me at first. The taste and breading and feel of it is perfect, once I take a bite and look at the texture of the crossection it's pretty obvious it's different but really the taste and basic mouthfeel is dead on. I also really enjoyed the Mac and cheese, and honestly didn't even make it to the tots and barely the biscuit because the chicken and Mac filled me up! We got a medium bucket for us two and had so much food leftover! Also got a malt which was amazing as well, lots of flavor options. Service was great and pretty quick especially with how busy they were. And honestly for the price it's just crazy, I highly recommend everyone vegan or not to try this out.

If you're vegan and youre craving fried "chickn," this is the place. This is mine and my fiance's first time. We very much enjoyed the medium bucket, it really hit the spot and fixed our mouth watering cravings. Very impressive and delicious. A must! And yes, everything on the menu is vegan.

I'm a meat eater but came along with some vegetarian friends to try this place out since it was so highly rated. I got the smash'd bowl and a peanut butter shake. I thought the smash'd bowl was a good size. People complain that this place is expensive, but it seemed like pretty standard Minneapolis prices to me. Perhaps the shake could have been cheaper, but I'm also aware that oat milk is pretty overpriced which doesn't help their case. I really loved my shake, but I'm a big fan of oat milk and oat flavors so for me I didn't even miss the milk and thought the oat flavors complemented the peanut butter well. The "fried chicken" was SUPER crispy and well seasoned, I was really impressed. The actual seitan tastes kinda "meh" if you get a bite without the crispy coating, but I think that's just how seitan is. If you eat it "normally" it all comes together great. I found myself wishing there was more "chicken" in my bowl just because it was so good. I was a little disappointed by my mashed potatoes, they weren't as creamy as I would like. I know it's possible to make really creamy vegan mashed potatoes at home by simply mixing in some of the starchy water from boiling the potatoes into the mash, but maybe this technique doesn't work as well "in bulk" as it does when I just cook for myself. The other toppings on the bowl were interesting. I kind of wish the fake bacon flakes were not included, I felt they weren't that good and kind of detracted from the bowl (but I also don't like bacon flavor that much). I wonder what the gravy was made of, it has some sweetness to it that worked well with the rest of the bowl. I don't think I'd come here on my own again, but if a vegan or vegetarian friend were in town I'd definitely take them here to try it.

I live in Charlotte, I came to MN to surprise my mother for her birthday yesterday. I eat a vegan diet so, when I am in town, my mom makes sure to find a vegan location to order from or dine in. The fried chicken bucket was interesting so, that's why we decided to order from Herbie. My mom went inside, I parked and then decided to go inside. We had already decided on mac n' cheese and coleslaw for our sides. I get inside and find out they don't serve either side during this time of the year. Mac n' cheese is a comfort food and it's freezing in MN but, it's served in the summertime we were told. The sides they serve during this time of year are, mashed potatoes w/ gravy, corn w/ bacon (faux of course) mixed in it and tater tots. I wasn't a fan of any of the noted sides. My mom chose the tater tots for my pops and an extra biscuit for the two sides. I felt like the person taking our order wasn't as warm as she could be. She seemed agitated because my mom (she's 76 yrs young) asked several questions about the menu options and may have asked the same question twice. We start to pay with cash, we are told they don't take cash. I may have missed it but, I did not see a sign letting patrons know. We pay with a card and leave. We got home, put the food in the oven to warm up. My parents and I enjoyed the food, the chicken was flavourful and crispy, the tater tots tasted like tater tots. The sauces were very good, we had the house (Herbie) sauce, ranch and a Nashville hot sauce. We didn't care for the cheddar jalapeno biscuit, the regular biscuit was good along with the maple butter that comes with it. The food was very filling, we enjoyed it.

Fried chicken was my favorite comfort food before I was vegan, so this place is amazing for me. I had a chocolate shake with whipped cream and a small bucket with Mac n cheese, with ranch dip. The butter for the biscuit is delectable. Perfect consistency shake. Crispy chicken breading with tender, hot and juicy inside. Ranch was great. I had a bite of my husband's chicken sandwich and wow. We will return. Even beyond and impossible burgers at a restaurant are usually $11+, so a $10 vegan fried chicken sammy is a deal! I was so full that I gave my Mac n cheese to my husband but he said it was good!

This is not the best but certainly among the best fried chicken I've had and it isn't even real chicken. The sauces are great, but order extra. The coleslaw was amazing, it was not overly sweet, it was wonderfully savory and tangy. The macaroni could use some work, but was at least passable. Didn't get to try the biscuits because they were out. I do wish there were more side options like mashed sweet potatoes, collard greens, something pickled, but I do appreciate a small menu if it means the food is consistent.

Awesome, awesome, awesome!!! I had high expectations, since this place is owned by the same people as Herbivorous Butcher and they did not disappoint! The "chicken" was flavorful and tender and the crispy outside was better tasting and crunchier than any that I've ever had. I think that whether you eat meat or are a vegan or vegetarian you will love the food here! Give it a try the next time that you are in the neighborhood!

Super delicious food! There were a lot of people standing out on the sidewalk waiting for their food, but thankfully the wait for food wasn’t long considering the line (15-20 minutes). The service was kind, and the food was DELICIOUS! I wish the “meat” part of the chicken was a little less dense and more juicy, but WOW the breading. I haven’t eaten fried chicken in 10 over years, and the flavor and look of the breading was just spot on to how I remembered it being. The mac and cheese was also good, could’ve done with more sauce. And the slaw is probably the best I’ve every had. It’s more savory than slaws typically are. Can’t wait to go again!

Went to Herbie Butcher’s Fried Chicken today with two companions. We each had a fried chicken sandwich with tater tots. I liked the sandwich. The “chicken” was tasty, tender, and had a texture very similar to chicken breast, though not quite as stringy. The breading was nice and crunchy, even though we took the food home before digging in. There were also plenty of excellent dill pickles in the sandwich – a big plus in my book. Because everything has been carry out or delivery only, the pandemic has made me acutely aware of how quickly French fries deteriorate into something I don’t want to eat. Today I was happy to discover that tater tots stay tasty and a bit crunchy on the outside for far longer. Today’s tater tots were also lightly seasoned, which was nice, but somewhat too salty, which was not. Probably could have been fixed with ketchup, but we didn’t have any at hand. Overall, I enjoyed the meal, and I will probably eat at Herbie Butcher’s again, especially because I have family members and friends who are vegetarian or vegan. (It’s great when everyone in the party can order freely from the menu instead of having to grill the waiter about ingredients.) I might try the bucket of chicken next time because 1. It’s more focused on the chicken and 2. It’s an opportunity to try a side dish. Logistic note: at this time (7/25/2021), Herbie Butcher’s Fried Chicken is only accepting walk-up orders. When we placed our order today, we were told it would be 10 - 15 minutes until it was ready, so we walked down the block a bit to chat in the shade and be farther away from the small crowd waiting near the order window. When we came back about 10-12 minutes later, there was a sign in the window saying that they were taking a 10-minute break from accepting new orders. Seems like the demand is so high that the restaurant can’t produce chicken fast enough to keep up. Luckily for us, we arrived while orders were being accepted and our food was brought to us within a minute of our return to the order window.

One of the things I missed most since cutting meat out of my diet was fried chicken, so I spent the better part of a month counting down the days for HFC to open. I woke up bright and early opening day and placed my order. The wait was long but so, so, worth it. I got the medium bucket because I knew I’d want leftovers. It was all amazing! I got the Mac and cheese, coleslaw, buffalo sauce and butcher sauce, and was surprised with tots on the bottom of my bucket that I was excited to try. Like I said, AMAZING. Even the next morning, my cold leftover fried chicken hit the spot. I wish I had gotten a larger bucket for even more leftovers 🤤

We ordered a bit of everythy and brought it to a nearby park to eat picnic style and it was so delicious. Definitely kid approved (and my kids are very picky). Everything was so flavorful. The chicken was even super good cold straight from the fridge later that night. The malts are all super good, the vanilla one has a stronger coconut taste that comes through but I happen to love coconut. The peanut butter malt is also yummy. Happy to have this new vegan spot - we will be back!

My brother and I got takeout for his birthday because we heard great things. We were not disappointed! We got the large bucket with tator tots, biscuits, mac and cheese, and the bbq and Nashville hot sauces. Order came out very quickly. Granted there weren't many in front of us cause we went around 430. The maple butter for the biscuits was fantastic and easy to spread. The Mac and cheese was the best vegan Mac I've had. The breading was flavorful and not too greasy. The sauces both made for good dipping. Loved it! Need need more vegan junk food like this place!

Second day open and had a long wait but was so worth it! The Mac-n-cheese was so creamy it melted in my mouth...and the chicken was flipping awesome!! The chicken was tender, juicy and the texture was just right. And the butcher's sauce was perfect on it! Oh!- and the tators were perfectly crispy. The biscuits were flakey, fluffy, and buttery goodness. I was thrilled by the chocolate malt as I haven't been able to find a decent vegan one around here until now. I was in Minnesota for a wedding in Walker so I just had to stop for some fried chicken on the way to the airport. The young woman behind the counter recommended the bucket. Finally had a chance to try this place now that they deliver! Not vegan, but was interested in this concept. The small (2 piece bucket) I'd say is enough for two people. Everything tasted great except, unfortunately, for the cole slaw -- I couldn't place it because it wasn't quite vinegar or "buttermilk" based, but I think adding sugar could help? If they reworked the cole slaw, it'd be the complete package.

Got a large bucket, Mac and cheese, and tots with butchers sauce, honee mustard, and buffalo sauce. Chicken is delicious, with crispy and perfectly seasoned breading. The Butchers sauce is like YumYum sauce, the buffalo sauce was everything I've been wanting in a vegan buffalo sauce, and the biscuits are perfect. Exactly as fluffy as you want, with the crisp bottom your grandma always managed but yours never quite get right. The Mac and cheese is the same served at the main Herbivorous Butcher's shop in northeast. Had the Mint Newman-O's shake and it didn't last the 10 minute drive back to my house because it was so delicious. Even if you're not Vegan or vegetarian I highly recommend this as one of the best chicken places in Minneapolis.

Yumbotron! Went on opening weekend, waited in line for 90 mins and it was WORTH IT. I don't know what kind of sorcery they're using to make such perfectly seasoned, crispy, juicy, tasty vegan chik'n, but WOW it's incredible. My friend & I split the medium bucket (chosen sides were mac & cheez and coleslaw), plus each got a chocolate malt (best dairy-free malt ever), and it was more food than we could handle. They were out of biscuits but I couldn't have eaten another bite anyway, though I do look forward to trying those soon. SO excited to have this amazing new vegan restaurant on the South side - even more excited to see the huge crowd who showed up, everyone was so patient & kind. Whether you're vegan or vegetarian, looking to reduce the amount of animal products you consume regularly, or just plain hungry, give this place a try and see just how delicious and comforting cruelty-free eating can be!

I got the Large six piece bucket with coleslaw and mac n cheese. Coleslaw and mac n cheese are decent. I didn't think I would like the Butcher sauce but I was surprised. It's like a sriracha mayo with less spice. The ranch is decent, tastes tangy more like a bleu cheese ranch to me. The chicken is delicious and filling. The breading does stay on. I wish they had chicken fingers as an option. I loved the shake I got. Chocolate base with peanut butter oreo cookies mixed in. Filling - I couldn't eat much after best drinking it. All in all it was delcious! It would also be good if they had more side options like greens or sweet potaroes.

I do wish they were open more than just Thursday thru Sunday… I was visiting Minneapolis and didn’t realize this (my fault), and had already had a Sunday lunch elsewhere… Went there a couple hours later for second lunch because it was my only opportunity to go… 😂. Chicken is really good! We also had the biscuits and toys, which are delicious. The Mac and cheese is very bland, maybe kids would like it but I would not eat it again. I reccomend splitting meals, it comes with a lot and is expensive. The only drinks are bottled. No tables, only takeout.
