Reviews of Guavas Cuban Cafe

Friendly, Cozy comfortable indoor seatings with outdoor patio. We ordered up front and self serve for water. Reasonable price with big portions. Shrimp was perfectly cooked in coconut sauce . Pork steak, rice and beans were a little too salty for me . Desserts were on point!

Today was my first time there on my sister's recommendation.
I love! The ambient was really cozy and inviting! I had the Cubano sanguich with a Cafe con Leche, it was all very good would definitely come back! The employee all seem and were really nice!

Was in the neighborhood and dropped by. Fair prices for the amount of food and quality! The food is great and the “order yourself” at a counter set up is way more convenient than needing to deal with servers elsewhere.

My hungry stomach took me here. We order a ceviche, a plate of hanger steak and shrimp with garlic pepper creamy sauce, a shrimp bowl with mild creole sauce and a guava juice. The quality and the portions are very decent. Our server was awesome.

Nice small restaurant with outdoor seating.
The food is amazingly delicious 🤤 the seafood white sauce is creamy and tasty. There’s two big tilapia fillets on the bottom covered in sauce. Would totally recommend this place

This was a really lucky drive-by find for my friend and I. We were looking for a patio to enjoy the last of the summer warmth. I’m so glad we saw this place and stopped. The counter order was super easy, the staff were friendly and helpful. The outdoor seating area was perfect. I liked that there was a water container and cups available; I drink a lot of water and it can get annoying asking for refills. The food was great and was well priced. Would definitely like to go back and try more. Would recommend to anyone.

Food was fresh and service was nice. Quaint little place with interesting street decor. I recognized the IKEA plate ware.
Food: ordered Chicharron de pollo, plantains chips and dip, tamale with pork, fried fish and rice for the kid, and friend ordered shrimp. Everything was great; funny enough the kids meal was the best tasting thing! Fish was super good. I also really liked the black bean dip they had.

A delicious taste of Cuba and its culture; a pure hidden gem in the heart of Minneapolis. The food, the atmosphere is captivating, an experience to try at least once!
The mouth watering Cubano is a MUST!! Their mango and pineapple juice is absolutely delicious. Believe you me Guavas needs to be on the maps-. The recognition of its cuisine and culture is what Minnesota is craving for

Don't judge it by its curb appeal, this place is fantastic. GREAT food, everything is great. Service is great, drinks are great, art and decor are cute and very Cuban, lighting is nice, general vibes are very cozy, I would eat breakfast here every day, it's ideal. 🤠 French toast, eggs, and the fruit frescos are particularly good, but honestly just order anything, you can't go wrong here. ❤️❤️❤️ also their butter has no business being this good. Prices are great, serving size is great. I've been to many a cafe in Paris and Seoul this year, arguably the 2 cafe capitals of the world and this place still is in my top 10 cafes on the planet for sure ❤️

A hidden gem in south minneapolis! My favorite dishes are the shrimp bowl and veggie bowl (I usually add a protein too) along with the mojito (wine based) or sangria. My husband really enjoys the steak. The patio is delightful in the summer and they sometimes even have live music!
The only thing I would change about this place is not having to stand in line to order at the counter. Sometimes it gets very busy and I would prefer having a server come to our table to order.

Guavas Cuban was the perfect date night - (they have a Wednesday “date night” special but we were there on a Sunday evening. It’s also a family friendly spot with a great looking kids menu. We have only had Cuban food a few times in Miami, so jumped at the opportunity to try the Sampler Plate and spilt a Cubano Sandwich- neither option disappoints. The Cubano was hot and delicious with the perfect amount of cheese pull. The mustard that came with Sampler platter made it 5 stars. We also ordered the Sampler - that was just as amazing ! We loved all the house made sauces and dips- the fried plantains were perfectly crisp. We enjoyed all the options on the sampler plate, but the standouts for us were the Papa Rellena and the Con Tamal Lechon - we will absolutely order that as an entree on our next visit. The atmosphere is warm & inviting, we loved sitting next to the fire feature on a cold minnesota evening ! It’s Counter Service and the food is hand deliverd to your table by a really friendly staff that seemed genuinely happy to be working there. We will be back again in the spring, the outdoor patio looks over a beautiful lake. Great Experience!

Fantastic breakfast! Nice and quiet little place. Easy parking, easy ordering. Wonderful for a Saturday morning brunch. Definitely will be back for some of the sandwiches in the evening sometime.

Great ambiance at this little restaurant. Would love to come for a drink next time. Had the ropa vieja which was tasty. The rice and beans were a little salty. Platanos were delicious. I would go back and try a different dish!
Beth Pearson
This was a delicious spot. My husband and I loved the yucca fries and dip for an app, and then I had the shrimp rice bowl for dinner. Amazing spot, great location with easy parking, and amazing food! Will be returning soon. 🤗 …

Cuban was absolutely luscious. Chips were delicious and the ambiance was very cool. Traveling to MN on business but had to tell my local colleagues about this place because it is that good. Their desserts are also wonderful and they have a big selection of sandwiches with a staff that’s friendly and helpful.

This place was pretty good. We ventured over on a Sunday afternoon for lunch and enjoyed ourselves. The decor was really nice as well.

Been wanting to make a stop here for some time now. We sat outside and enjoyed the right amount of food and drink before continuing on our weekend errands. The Cubano was good. Felt it was a little thin ok the mustard and pickles but the bread was just right. My wife really enjoyed the Pollo La Plancha and the sweet plantains were on point. Tip: if you get the Mojito, give it a good stir or you might get a little extra bite of ginger beer (but I like ginger).
Eduardo Camacho
Great Cuban restaurant with authentic food. The MSP people is very Lucky to have two great cuban restaurant to choose from. You will feel the Carribean heat runing inside you once you tried these delicious food...
Shawnie Marie
Guava's is a wonderful, neighborhood Cafe to have a great Cuban meal. The food was flavorful. The music playing was festive. I had breakfast today and really enjoyed the meal and will definitely return to try other items.

One of my favourite places ! I always get the veggie rice bowl and extra maduros! the plating is beautiful and flavours are perfect. I go quite consistently with my partner. GOOD QUALITY DELICIOUS FOOD!!! - ‼️UPDATE : I have to change my rating because of the complications I've had every single time I order "extra extra maduros" , it ususally comes with 2, extra is 2 more , extra extra would be 6 total, but on multiple occassions staff had a hard time figuring out the amount of maduros necessary- it got to the point where I had to start just saying "extra maduros" , and even sometimes they still forget to add the extra maduros lol..... Still good tho I'm still going to go there - I just want my fried plantains man :/
CJ
I loved the modern interior of the restaurant with pictures of Cuba on the walls. They also had a quaint seating area outside too. It's in a quieter neighborhood with plenty of parking available, and it's a laid back and easy going area.
I ordered the ropa vieja since it looked right up my alley. The meat was tender and the portions were generous but there was some temperature inconsistencies. The rice was piping hot but the meat and beans were on the cooler side. I imagine if you mixed everything together it would have been the perfect temperature. It also seemed like it was missing some seasoning or flavors to sort of make the dish whole. Regardless, it was still a tasty bowl of food that left me satisfied.
Yew Kar
Good atmosphere, food was delicious. I ordered the shrimp bowl with Creole sauce, next time I'll try the coconut sauce. Not a fan of their tres leches cake though. My friend ordered the Cuban sandwich and she loved it
Edit: 8/9/22...I ordered the paella valencia or something of that nature. It was salty but really good
John G
Comfortable place with a gas fireplace which was nice on a cold day. You order at the front counter and they bring the food to your table. There is also a water faucet at the counter which is where one fills their own glass.
Ordered a Cubano which tasted fine but wasn’t what I have had at other restaurants in terms of the bread and presentation. My buddy got a salad.
His salad came quick and we were in a long conversation so the fact that my Cubano hadn’t come wasn’t entirely on my mind. Finally, the gal from the counter came to ask if my Cubano had come and when I said: “No” she went right into the kitchen to check. Came back and admitted that the ticket didn’t print and apologized and offered a free drink or something to make up for the long wait. I declined, wasn’t upset, and finally my Cubano came nice and hot.
When I was finished she came to the table with a new receipt and said she deducted the price of the Cubano because of the mistake. Very classy gesture and even though I would have paid anyway, it showed me they care about service and making things right for the customer.
Recommend dining here as people are extremely friendly and I do believe they are working hard to constantly improve on what they do.

An absolute warm embracing environment. This tucked away gem exudes island 🏝 life and Cuban culture. Delicioso Café ☕️, entrees and desserts 🍮. If you haven’t visited this family owned treasure, you are missing out!!!🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

First time at this Cafe! Awesome food and will be coming back! It was worth the wait! Can't wait to try the dinner menu! Thank you!
Latifat A.
Great atmosphere, plenty of outdoor seating, and good food. You can't beat it. We came during a social that had live music. This added to the liveliness and overall vibe. Service was also top notch. You find your own seat and order at the front. Would recommend.
Luis Villanueva
As always, Great food and amazing customer service. Today's experience was especially perfect because my friend and I got to experience the outdoor patio and and it was such a quiet and peaceful experience.
Lisa S
The food was delicious! I got their sampler platter and I can’t wait to return and bring more friends to try.
Andrea Kiepe
Nice neighborhood restaurant, with a patio and a fireplace. I enjoyed the paella Valenciana and my date liked the pollo chicharon. Sangria was also tasty! We went on a Thursday night and there was live music which unfortunately was too loud for us to want to stay.
David Przetycki
Just drove by, great atmosphere, will be back to check out the Menu!
Chris Wright
Great food, resonable portions. Clean restaurant with friendly staff. Affordable prices.
Becca Freeman
I've been coming here since COVID because it has a lovely outdoor patio! I love the vibe. It's pretty small, but I've never been unable to get a seat. They have an amazing happy hour - 2 drinks for 1 on weeknights! I had their Lechón Rice Bowl, and my boyfriend had the Ropa Vieja Rice Bowl. Plenty of food - enough for leftovers for me and is one of my favorite places to eat in Minneapolis.
Hanu Tyagi
Quaint and tastefully done cafe tucked besides a beautiful lake with great cuban food! We tried the shrimp creole bowl with Paella Valenciana. Both dishes were tasty but we particularly liked the shrimp bowl! We had the guava cheesecake but it turned out to be a regular cheesecake (probably named after the cafe and not the fruit) and didn't quite have a guava flavor. It's a self service place so maneuvering is easy. Definitely a one-time try!
Rich Kronfeld
Ate here last weekend on a bike ride. Cuban food is distinctive from Mexican; not as much heavy cheese - but similar in lots of beans, rice & meats, no tacos, or burritos, etc. What I and my wife had was delicious. And what an improvement over the geasy diner that was in this space a long time ago.
iTravel
I'm so glad I stumbled upon this restaurant. The food is good, service is good too. Price is not too bad. The Cuban favorites price is a little too high but the portion is decent anyway and taste good so no complaints. I didn't inquire if they have parking space because I parked on the street. Came here on a weekend and the street is pretty quiet so finding a parking space wasn't an issue. It's a great neighborhood cafe.
Carlie Klebs
This restaurant is a hidden gem! The staff are friendly, attentive, and helpful. The drinks are delicious and the Cuban food is some of the best I’ve had outside of Miami! Highly recommend if you’re in the area.
Anthony Bilyeu (Ab)
Fantastic ropa🙏 Cubano 🔥 thank you for the delicious food and decor that made us feel like we were someplace else 🤜🤛🍻
John Vinar
It was a fun place to go, you order at the counter and the prices are reasonable and I would go back again.
Susan Roberts
This was our first time and we were very pleased with both the food and service. We loved our meals and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Definitely will go again.
John Melich
Delicious! My wife and I were looking for a new place to try when this popped up. We ate at off hours so consider that, but we ordered the specials and they were prepared very quickly and everything we tried was great! We found it to be a pretty good value as well. Leaving room for dessert was no mistake either. Try the tres leches. We'll certainly be back to eat some other dishes.
Amber Shai
From the Beautiful Lady who greeted us at the door. To the Awesome Shrimp Bowl with Creole sauce, and topped off with Guava Lime Cheesecake. This experience was excellent! YOU HAVE TO EAT HERE!!!😍💞🥳 …
leo zachman
The food and service was good! We had a few of their dishes and enjoyed the Cuban sandwich and the roasted pork shoulder the most!
Ivette Flores
It was great! The food was delicious and the cooks singing to Juan Gabriel made us sing too! My daughter (7 years old) had a great night!
Ana Alonso
Consistently great food! One of my family's favorite spots. The Wednesday night special is a great deal if you like paella. The vaca frita is also very flavorful!
Brandy Leary
OMG! So my abuela died when I was 23 and eating at this restaurant made me feel like she was giving me a hug! Amazing food, staff, and coffee. The staff was so kind and attentive! Would highly recommend!
Aaron Rickard
A hearty, light, and tasteful brunch place. The Cuban hash is amazing, and they have a really good drip coffee to go with it. I've been here for dinner too and the sandwhiches are great. I commonly don't know exactly what I'm ordering but it's always good.
Denise Houk
Really great food. It's very flavorful. It's spicy but not hot spicy. The service was great. They also serveserved coffeecoffees drinks. The atmosphere is cafe casual and kid friendly. There is a nice outdoor seating area.
Warren Hanson
Great chef run Cuban restaurant. Every dish we have had has been good. Great breakfast menu too. Casual, friendly attentive staff. Comfy booths and tables inside. Nice outdoor patio seating in the summer.
Alex Golimbievsky
The Vaca Frita Hash was out of this world, delicious. Also great service, stellar speed to get your food. This place fires on all cylinders. Definitely worth repeat visits.
Shelby M
Finally, good Cuban food! Thank you Guavas! After spending 10 days in Cuba last year, I continue to crave the cuisine. I had yet to find a local place which could execute ropa vieja or maduros well, but this place got it! I have visited twice - both experiences were 5 stars. The first visit, I got a bunch of sides (maduros, rice and beans, yuca) to share with the picky 5 year old I babysit. She loved all of it, especially the mojo sauce. Second visit, I brought my boyfriend who ordered the lechon asada. Damn, I've never had pork that was so tasty. And I ordered the ropa vieja (not the best I've ever had but definitely is made the Cubana way, and is in my top 5). The bowls are awesome because they come with rice and beans and maduros, so you get a lot for $14! The prices here are insane-ly cheap! $2-4 for sides. All entrees under $20, most around $10. You get a lot for what you pay portion-wise, and you can't beat the flavors here. I will keep coming back.

Holy forkballs why didn't we try this place sooner?! Incredible food and amazing espresso. While I am slightly disappointed the food seems to come with a Minnesota level of spice and flavor unlike how it would normally be, everything was delicious.
Shaya Panda
Wow, their food was amazing! Great quality, great tasting...all of it! I didn't try anything that was just meh. I would definitely recommend them and I definitely plan to be back! =) my dad is pretty picky and he loves his breakfast and is requesting for me to take him back, that rarely happens!
Ivette Valle
Small cute place with very yummy food! Great food, great prices, and great atmosphere. The coffee is a must try along with the pastries. My favorite was the tres leches latte!
Ben Ernst
My favorite spot in Minneapolis! A nice quaint little hole in the wall spot. The vibe is laid back and chill, but at the same time you get to experience the rich Cuban food, music, and culture!
Orrin Dabney
I have no idea how the food is so perfect. Even though I was full I wanted to order more.
The balance of everything is wonderful. The cook on the meat is perfect and the balance of salt and spice is on point.
Check it out when you have time. You'll be very happy that you did!

Being isolated during the pandemic, finding this little gem has given me the first experience of feeling like I am on vacation again in Latin America; dining here is like being at your favorite little bistro on the beach. Food is delightful, staff is pleasant, ambiance is relaxed and casual, warm and inviting. Great beverage offerings, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, with splendid agua frescas!! What can I say - I've come here three times in the last month, both alone and with friends, and I always leave with a full stomach and a warm heart.
AtuKiti “El Buruleo Podcast”
The Cuban sandwich was delicious. I have to mention it had salami and it is not part of the traditional sandwich, but it gave it a nice touch. The tostones seemed to be frozen tostones from goya, they were not fresh.
Michael Rowley
Good food with very nice people serving us. I will go back again. Want to try their breakfast
Joshua De Leon
My go-to place for quick and delicious Cuban style food. I've introduced a few friends to this place and several have commented on wanting to return. Had lunch there today! Atmosphere (while I may not be the best judge) felt authentic, what with all the decoration and music. Customer service was also authentic (and friendly). It's like a best kept secret, this place. Like, I don't want to write a great review of this place because then you'll be all over this place! But I don't think that's a bad thing. Why not share this secret slice of savory goodness with suburban Minnesotans and visitors!
And don't get me started on their tres leches latte! Mmmm!
* * * * * <-- five stars!
Holly Jackson
Omg!! The food is tremendous!!! Definitely going to have to go back and work my way through the menu!!! Tonight we had steak and shrimp and it was so delicious!!
Loe Lee
Wowza. Healthy, flavorful, beautiful, thoughtfully constructed breakfasts that leave you feeling content and happy. A great place to go with a baby for a meal you don't have time or finesse to make for yourself. Will be back again for sure.
Carolina Uribe
Amazing food and very relaxed atmosphere. I had the lechón and my boyfriend had the vaquita. We both loved our dishes. The sangria was delicious too, with very sweet grapes!
Bill Brown
We ate here twice and both times the food was delicious. The cubano sandwich was my favorite. There was no wait and everyone in our party enjoyed their entree.
Dan Branovan
Love this place! It's a few blocks from our house and we go here often! Cubano is to die for. Coconut Shrimp bowl is also killer. Great Bev options. Wonderful staff and awesome space.
Joy Kalkofen
The food is amazing. Get the specials (one is a paella)! Get the cuban sandwich- it rates among the best. The side are recommended. The staff is friendly & the kitchen hustles to bring food out fast. Seriously, support this young chef & restaurant. Oh & the sangria is great...not syrupy or too sweet. The picture is one of the daily fish specials....soooooooo good!
Catherine Parker
Yum, yum, yum! Food was outstanding! The steak was so tender and the Cuban fries were huge. My bff kids loved their food too.
Price for my meal and the portion size was however disappointing. I expected more. I do understand price increases bc of covid but the portions should match.
Matt Silver
Stop reading and just go! What an amazingly tasty meal! Every dish was better than the last and it the place has a nice relaxed vibe. Coming back for the plantains.
topher udell
Amazing food. Super friendly staff.
Came here with a group of coworkers, and everything was amazing. We tried several (probably too many) appetizers and main dishes. Nothing disappointed.
Monica Lee
Excellent food. Best yuca I've ever had. I didn't mind the DIY aspect (first time we used A QR code, 2nd we ordered at the counter) Everyone who worked there was friendly. Also, awesome Micheladas!
andrea ortiz
Clean. Quiet. Great breakfast. You pay at the front when you order your food but waiter comes around periodically making sure you're good.
jim bohl
Great food. Kids meals are the right size and good choices. I have been tired of the same plain kid options. My wife got the shrimp bowl and I got the Cuban sandwich. Everything was great. My kids are light eaters so I even got to try their food. We will be back soon I am sure. Next time I will take a picture of the food.
Susan Moore
Delicious pastries, awesome Cuban. burger, bowl with rice , black beans, orange pulled pork, plantains. Can’t wait to try again!
Chris Hassett
A wonderful family owned place! The food is amazing. From a kid who grew up in Miami, it’s great to find places like this here in Mn. The colada is on point! Thank you Guavas!
Paola OC
Great food! Sooo delicious! We had the Vaca frita Hash, forgot to take the pic hahah
Perfect amount of food and flavors!
Samantha Palumbo
Blown away. Everything was delicious. Warm, vibrant ambiance. Excited to have another go-to spot in Minneapolis.
Third Phone
We have gotten take out from here twice while visiting the area. Great food and it always seems like a great vibe there!
Sam Quincy
Great Cuban place with great outdoor seating. Order at the counter, great for eating in or taking it to go. Lechon asado braised pork rice bowl was perfect. Cubano style croquettes were the perfect. I'll definitely be coming back here often.
Ali Bazinet
Hands down delicious breakfast spot. LOVE the veggie hash. Looking forward to returning for dinner.
Samaria Ayala
Food was excellent. Staff was courteous. They just remodeled and the place looks lovely. Guava cheesecake is excellent.
Jason Chaffee
First off you can tell Frank is a people person, which of course is a good quality to have in this business. Aside from feeling welcomed in, the food is outstanding and I know this will be a staple in the neighborhood as well as the twin cities. I would have taken a picture of my lunch dish but I was half way done with it before thinking I should snap a photo. The picadillo... Very warm and filling for this cold winter day. Also, try the pastelitos for a dessert. The guava coconut. Back for dinner asap!
Deborah Campbell
I had lunch with my Grandaughter at Guavas Cuban It is a wonderful restaurant. The food is wonderful and the server was super.
Henry Edelstein
Really great food and atmosphere. I would highly recommend this restaurant. I had the shrimp bowl which was great! I plan to come back many times. Thanks!
Adam H
My wife and I love this place! We have done the Wednesday date night deal several times and it’s a great deal. The ropa vieja and croquetas are mouth watering and the cava mojito is absolutely delicious! Eating at Guavas never disappoints!
Cai Lee
Delicious, fresh food. Service was great and speedy for a Saturday evening.
Michelle Engstrom
This is my absolute favorite right now. You can’t go wrong with any of the dishes here, but I always get a side of plantains. Favorites are Ropa vieja and the Cuban. Love the cortadito coffee!
Critical Chris
Wonderful ropa vieja, white sangria, and live music on a Friday evening!
Anton Korotchuk
This place is always awesome! The food quality is good, the atmosphere is good. Keep up the good work guys! I love coming here for lunch.
Randy Bunker
Wonderful atmosphere, great food, affordable prices. Tried Colada for the first time and am hooked. Phenomenal $2.99 breakfast special. Highly recommend.
Megan Vera
Customer service was not top notch but the food was
Liliana Pickert
Hands down - best Cuban food I’ve ever had (in MN)! Fresh, flavorful, and delicious! Great service & spectacular atmosphere! I’ll be back soon!
JLC
They are NOT open at 8 am on saturdays - even though it says they are open. Didn’t get to try food but very misleading
Chanti
The nostalgic taste of abuelitas (grandmas) love! Veggie bowl is wonderful and the pastelitos according to my husband didn’t last very long! Glad to have the flavors of home so nearby! #authentic
Christie Opitz
Wonderful little hidden gem! Good service, great food and atmosphere. Could have split the Cuban for lunch given we also ordered an appetizer. Will be going back as I didn't get to try the Paella!
Stefan Marin
The food was delicious 🤤!!!! Definitely recommended!!!!!!
Molly Phillips

Dan Beaubien

Michael Nelson
One of the best burgers in the twin cities!
Food was amazing, atmosphere was great. Food came out really fast.
Dustin Damas
I went into this place expecting the delicious simple Cuban food I grew up with, and Guavas did me one better. It’s all the flavors you would expect and want, but with an oomph to the presentation that you myth not expect. You won’t be disappointed!
Christina Wagoner
DELICIOUS food. Wow! Outside patio is great for plane watching 🤩! Highly recommended! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Natalia costa-roberts
The best Pan de Lechon in the Midwest! Great place for anyone interested in Cuban-type food! Excellent value, tasteful decor, and lovely setting, across from a park.
Jessica Lieberman
Delicious paella and great atmosphere! My boyfriend and I went to Guavas Cuban Cafe last night for their Wednesday date night special (side, two paellas and a carafe of wine for $40). It was a great deal and the food was incredible. We appreciated that the paella was rich, bold in flavor and full of a variety of high-quality protein. Do note that they sometimes sell out of paella so get their on the early side for the date night special. We can’t wait to go again!
Mayra Rodriguez
Perfect sangria, delicious food and a beautiful relaxed atmosphere. Service is good.
Becca Kae
So good! Fun space, with lots of plants and unique decor. Very friendly staff and super good food. We had two sandwiches and both were delicious. Will definitely be stopping again.
Troy Bagley
We were passing through the area a while ago, when happened upon this restaurant. Since, it looked like an inviting place, we decided to make a stop here. We were so glad, since there was practically no waiting during dinner time, butafter we ordered it was just starting to get a little busier. It took a few minutes, to order, because everything sounded so good from the menu descriptions, kind of hard to decide. I decided on the Cubano sandwich with rainbow chips, and the pan con fish sandwich as well. Of course it took a little while to get our food, but since it's made fresh, I didn't mind. When we got our order the food had all the ingredients that was listed on the menu. The tropical chips were especially good with the black bean dip, and who knew it would be so good. Then I had the fish, which tasted fresh all the way through. They were generous with the portions, so much so it might be enough for two meals. Of course when I get full, it is always good to bring it home. There I finished up the Cubano and fish sandwich as well. Of course the portions were generous it might be good to share half a sandwich, ( just maybe). I will definitely be back, since the dip, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles had a freshness to it. And especially since they actually serve breakfast, ( who knew).
Brenna Lybeck
YUM is the best way to describe this place. Superb food! The menu is incredible.
Jocelyn McQuirter
A fan favorite. The menu is all things delicious. I love the veggie hash and the pescado frito. The love is put in the flavor, the service, and welcoming space. Worth the trek to a cozier side of Minneapolis.
Laura Hotvet
Just had the best time celebrating my mom's birthday with extended family! The food and drinks were perfect, and all served with a smile!! We had a delicious sampling of the menu, every single dish was made very well and all enjoyed their order. The Thursday night live music was a blast and very entertaining! Highly recommend!!
Jon Hilgers
OMG we loved this place. Cuban breakfast and lunch home cooking with specialty coffee that - given basically every customer ordered a fancy coffee drink - must be incredible. Husband got steak and eggs (he ate it all, which rarely happens) and I got an incredible veggie rice bowl that included black beans, avocado, greens, plantains and I don't remember what else. Absolutely delicious.
Doug Stephan
I just had drinks but the food looked very good.

Delicious, speedy, kind, and a cute place with a great patio. I also took some of the pastries home to share and there was practically a fight over them. This instantly made my list of favorite places in MSP.
megan bernauer
This place makes me so happy, I just got back from my first trip to Miami and it's like a little chunk of Little Havana. Really great cafecito and food. Amazing.
Teddy Sanchez
Food was legit and the yuca fries were amazing.. i had the faka frita!
Anil J. Reddy
Guavas Cuban Cafe really hit the spot for me. Comfort food in an intimate neighborhood spot. No frills, just good home cooking. Yes beer & wine served.
Edgar Alfonzo
Love the Havana Breakfast!!
Rennie Harris
Let the photo speak for itself. Man - this food is delicious!

Seat yourselves, order inside, they bring the food to you. And the food is always delicious. I haven't had a bad thing from them yet. Their front house staff is a bit slow though but always nice.
Update: 7 months later, food is still delicious, but the portions are decreasing. There might be some cost cutting measures. we eat here about twice a month which isn't a lot but enough to notice a change in the last few months. We ordered out but only got one thing of chips with two burgers, which is fine because I usually don't eat all of them. But no drink with the kids meal and small portion of yuka fries. It was honestly disappointing because the food is good.
Abdul Nasir Khan (Nasir)
Awesome food. Very affordable. Great ambiance and service. Really enjoyed the experience.
Deb Sanders
I got their chicharron de pollo. I loved it. The flavor of the chicken was delicious, and the rice that came with it was perfectly cooked. The fried sweet plantains were a nice touch. also tried their red/white sangria. (I was a bit slow on realizing it was two drinks.) The atmosphere was relaxed, and a variety of people were eating there. (Including a person who was dressed like Inspector Gadget.) I would very much like to go back and snatch a baked good and coffee.
Lexi Weihe
This is my absolute favorite restaurant! I recommend it to literally everyone I know. Their rice bowls are my favorite, but everything is delicious. I haven't had anything on the menu that I do not like. Plus, all of the staff are super friendly and the restaurant has a cozy vibe. This place is a must try.
Amy M
I had a pork and rice bowl that was a bit underwhelming - but might be very authentic - but my partner and his friend had "the best Cuban sandwiches" they said they'd ever had! The location is cute, the coffee is good, good beer selection. I'd definitely go back I think I would just order something else!
Kaija Kaupins
The food is amazing and the service is great too. I had the Cuban sandwhich and felt full all day.
tina c
Definitely will do again. Nice little outside patio. However it's close to the airport so there's an airplane on approach every 5min. Theyre pretty loud. Cuban sandwich was good. Veggie bowl was yummy. Sangria was ok, too much ice. Overall would recommend and would come back.
Adam Long
Haven't had cuban before. was hard to find dishes with pork
Jeff Paske
This place! If you’re thinking about going to this place.... do it!! Great food, great people - you won’t regret it. Amazing flavors to warm the soul.
Tracy Eisenbraun
This is a hidden gem! They have such amazing Cuban food and the service is great! I love that they have vegan and vegetarian options! We will definitely be back!
Benjamin Staehlin
Food is really delicious. Sitting outside is tough - in the MSP flight path.
Alissa Hoff
Love everything about this neighborhood gem! I typically get the veggie bowl with a side protein (pork). The Ceviche is outstanding...fresh and flavorful.
Highly recommended for a girls night out, afternoon patio treat or even a date night. You won’t be disappointed.
Some additional favorites...Shrimp Bowl and Cuban Sandwich and the chocolate dessert.
Roxann Thurow
Service was slow. My pork was dry. adding cilantro aioli and chili
Kate Spangenberg
This was such a pleasant surprise on a chilly day! They atmosphere inside is warm, tidy, and comfortable; perfect for a relaxing night of wining, dining, and chatting with family! The food was absolutely awesome! I had the white sangria and a shrimp bowl w/ coconut sauce and it was delicious! The servers we also incredible friendly and attentive :) Would recommend!
Phil Warumzer
Delicious dining experience with counter service and a great outside patio
B H
My beef picadillo was a real treat. I haven't had that dish since I went to C Town out on the East coast. The yuca fries were some of the best I've ever had. We all had guava cheesecakes to end the meal and they were perfect. My only knock on the place was the "cafe" style serving arrangement was a little confusing for both patrons and staff. Our drinks got brought out late but I can overlook it because of the exceptional quality of the food.
Tom Yoder
Had the Lechon Asado, which is pork shoulder over black beans and rice. The pork was solid but the same as I have gotten at many other restaurants. The beans and rice were bland. The meal overall was average, nothing made it stand out. The outdoor patio was nice. Good place to go with friends.
sandy shoubash
Great breakfast! I’ll definitely come back to check out dinner!
Doug Rohde
The veggie bowl was substantial, imaginatively assembled, and delicious. The colada (cafe cubano) and flan were authentic and perfect - I thought I was in Key West. And even though it was just counter service, they served my dessert at dessert time rather than bringing it all the table at once like I expected it to be. Nice touch.
Natalie Remus
We've been here twice now and both times have been great experiences. The food was savory, well spiced, and super comforting. Extra bonus? You pay right away with the cashier when you put in your order, so you can make a quick get away when you're done eating.... that's family friendly dining at its finest! And get the flan, please.
Alina Hortillosa
We loved our dining experience at Guavas Cafe. Our service was amazing and the food came out fast. We are a pescatarian and there are many delicious options. We got the veggie bowl and pescado frita and they were great. They both come with beans, rice and fried plantains. All of the prices were reasonable. The atmosphere was warm and energetic, they had live music! What a wonderful spot for enjoying a nice summer's dinner.
lissa galbraith
It’s very cute and the food looks good. I ordered a veggie bowl and they brought out a completely different dish than the one described on the menu. Black beans instead of chickpeas and no okra or tomatoes. They could have at least explained that they were out of the ingredients but I ate it and it was tasty. I would have liked to taste the real dish. I did love the music though!
Valerie Schulz
Things I've had: shrimp bowl, fish sandwich, most of their apps, the shrimp& steak al ajillo.
The food is so so so good. I ordered my steak & shrimp for pick up, it was ready quickly, i asked for the steak to be done rare and it was cooked perfectly (which is so hard to get a properly rare steak), the rice is light and fluffy, the sauce is delicious. My only regret is I have but one stomach to fill.
Dude, stop reading, go get food from there!
Andrew Wagoner
O. M. G. Food was out of this world!! Had the Pollo a la Plancha which was to die for! The outdoor patio was cool because you get to see the planes land!
ArielEsthetic
I really like the food at this place, I like to order the veggie bowl but find that the sauce that comes with the veggie bowl is a little heavy for the already carb heavy meal. I like to sub out the sauce it comes with for the coconut sauce that comes with the shrimp bowl but for some reason they always have a problem with this. The host tells me she thinks that the texture doesn’t go well with the veggie bowl, even though I love it because it makes the bowl a little “lighter”. This irritates me, if you have the ability to give me the sauce on the side make your customer happy, just do it weather you think it taste well or not. 3 stars for customer service
Aaron K.
Want some Awesome Cuban food? This is the place...their Cuban burger was fantastic...very juicy! Plantanes were excellent! Medianoche croquetas were fantastic! Don't forget their guava 7 layer bars to Top off your feast or a sweet treat for later!
Christine Pletcher
Delish food! Fast and good service. I had the beef sandwich and it was very flavorful and fresh. My daughter had the plantain crusted fish and loved it. My husband had the shredded pork rice bowl. They have a little outdoor seating which is great! We will be back.
Brian Keller
Great food and atmosphere. Love the patio, too.
Christian Sanchez
Guavas has been a wonderful addition to this neighborhood. Every dish has that home cooked feel to it, I'm looking forward to dining in the restaurant again very soon. My one piece of advice for anyone doing takeout is to double check your order. I've had an incomplete order on more than one occasion.
T. Ortiz
As a Minna-Rican, I'm always desperately searching for comida criolla(savory, unique Puerto Rican, Dominican, or Cuban food ). There's currently only 1 PR restaurant in MN, far from me, & thankfully there's also the closer Guava's. Since 1st visit 2 yrs ago, it's been our favorite restaurant. Have tried several sandwiches, & rice bowls, all delicious. My go-to is shrimp or ropa vieja, my spouse's lechón.It's a rare, & authentic treat here. + cuban cof, always great service & outside patio 👍🏽
Irma Russell
Very good. Food was authentic, music was great and the ambiance was fantastic. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was because you have to stand to order your food, they don't take your order at the table. I would highly recommend Guavas Cuban Cafe.
Carson Five
Really good. It's an order at the counter restaurant, and a staff member brought our freshly prepared food to our table a short time later. I had the paella, which was excellent, and a Fulton 300 because they were out of Furious. There is a good selection of hot sauces to spice things up. What a great addition to the neighborhood!
Margaret Hanson-Pierre
Loved the breakfast Hash I got. It was so filling I didn’t even have to eat lunch. The coffee and guava juice ( in a big glass!!) were perfect pairings. I left feeling full, relaxed, and interested in Cuban culture. I also felt re-inspired to try to cook that well at home! A wonderful neighborhood spot.
Peggy Barton
Went for lunch, food was fresh, shrimp not overcooked, drink was wonderful. You place your own order (my daughter was not a fan) once placed, Service was prompt. We will return
Noelle Ernst
Don't let the exterior put you off, this place is STUNNING. Beautifully decorated interior, very cozy and upscale with some neat different seating arrangements perfect for any occasion (bar stools at small tables for working, cute 2 seat tables for couples, booths and benches for families). I love that you order at the counter, makes for either a lovely dinner spot or a fun place to sit down with your laptop and have a very good cup of coffee. The food is delicious and authentic, on par with the fantastic food I ate in Cuba. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and I liked that you could see the chefs cooking the meal. A hidden gem, Guavas is incredible!
Alexander Schwartz
My wife and I came here the day before Valentine's day because everything else was packed. We found live music and some of the best Cuban food we have ever had. My wife had the chicken sandwich and I had the Cuban Burger. Both were excellent! Service was quick and polite. I would recommend Guavas Cuban Cafe for a date night for sure!
Mindy Davis
First trip to Guavas since moving back to the neighborhood. What a treasure! I had the white fish, which was smothered in shrimp and mussels, and my husband had the steak and shrimp. Both dishes were fantastic. Generous portions, delicious garlic white wine sauce, fluffy white rice and perfectly fried plantains. Loved the Mexican soda options as well. Can’t wait to try their breakfast!
Sami Mir
Food was very good tasty with great presentation.
Mikky Daub
The veggie bowl was fabulous!!! I love this place.
Moriah Brooks
Sweet little cafe, we stopped on a Saturday evening after landing at MSP and on our drive back to Duluth. We made a quick stop, food was out fast and tasty. Would have loved to have lingered over coffee and dessert but we needed to get going - next time.
Adam Vnuk
Came here for a little night out and absolutely LOVED it! We chose to sit outside which other than one distraction I'll mention later, was very nice. Their front patio area is large, well marked, and sunny. There are patio umbrellas as needed as well.
The food was on point. The partner ordered the cubano sandwich and it was exactly as you would expect it to be. I ordered a chicken thigh rice bowl and it was great! Excellent flavors and plenty to fill me up. We also had drinks and an appetizer which were also wonderful as well.
The only distraction that needs to be mentioned is that the area is in the flight path for the main runways at and if the planes are coming over the area to land, it can be a little distracting....like pause your conversation loud. This is NOT a reflection on the establishment which is why it's still a 5 star rating...but something you'll need to be away of if you're thinking of sitting outdoors.
All in all, we're looking forward to going back.
Madreloca Eleven
Excellent food. Don't let the outside fool you like we almost were. Prices are a bit spendy.
Matthew N
What a great neighborhood restaurant. Food is top notch and the staff are extremely gracious and friendly. They have vegetarian options and we keep ordering the rice bowl because it’s so good. Also, a bonus we didn’t expect: a nice selection of craft beer and wine.
Joyce DZ
We found this cute restaurant after playing soccer at Pearl Park. Easy street parking and very convenient location. The food is amazing. My husband got the Cubano, I had the Lechon Asado rice bowl and our child got the fish from the kids meal. Highly recommended.
Libier Bermudez
Good Cubano sandwich; better flavored than the Pan con Lechón, which meat was not trimmed and thus I got three bites with fat instead of meat, out of about 12 that took to eat the sandwich. The mojito uses passion fruit, which was not disclosed in the table menu but later I saw in the chalkboard inside. In my case there was more ice than drink, so not impressed when the cost is $8 and I was expecting the traditional lime one. The garlic oil doesn't have enough crushed garlic, so if one wants to add it to the sandwich, it would be too much oil before we get to the garlic. I recommend use less oil, or add more garlic, so there is a better ratio. Maduros were good. There is incongruity between the menu online, on the table, and on the wall inside. That creates customer experience confusion. For instance, ceviche is in the online menu but not in the other two, so not sure if it's available for sale or not.
Overall, small portions with average flavor for the prices charged. However, with some small tweaks, this restaurant has a lot of potential.
Bacon Me Crazy Food Truck
Simply amazing. Food is on point. Always hot and staff is SUPER friendly. Baked goods are very very popular.
Andrea Bott
Everything about this place is great. The staff is friendly and on top of their game. The atmosphere is perfect for a neighborhood independent restaurant - a fireplace for chilly weather and a patio for warm weather. We were fortunate enough to be here on the first day of their soft opening, as well as their first day of their dinner launching, and many other times as well. The price is right. The food is GOOD. Breakfast, lunch, dinner. It's all been amazing. We've probably ordered 90% of the menu and never been disappointed. Guys, I dont even like plantain chips, but theirs with whatever sauce they serve with it are great. Their collards are garlicky good! All their rice bowls are amazing. Their yuca is yummy. Really. This place is GREAT and I am so happy to see it doing well in our neighborbood.
Jacob Farrar
Best breakfast in Minneapolis. Fresh, delicious and generous portion sizes. A great place for lunch or dinner as well. Great coffee & a nice patio as well.
martin sahaydak
Great Cuban food! The bowls we ordered had healthy portions. The Masitas and Chichorron (pork belly and skins) melted in your mouth. The Cortaditos (Cuban coffees) were a couple of the best we've had north of Miami. Will definitely visit again.
Andrew Day
Issues with food but it was solved in the free dessert was given
Firestone stonefire
delicious food! love the ambiance.
Linda Brown
I love, love, love the shrimp bowl with coconut sauce and the plantains are sooo good. Can't wait for my next visit.
Terry Horstman
I can’t remember the last Cuban sandwich I had in the Twin Cities that was as good as this one. Atmosphere is bright and lively and the staff were fantastic. They also appear to have a great email promo code program that hooks you up with good deals and doesn’t bombard your inbox. Will definitely be back to explore the rest of the menu.
Tom Gonyer
Went there Thurs Dec 20th with a group of 8 for lunch. All of us except for one couple have been to the other Cuban place. Guavas is a few steps above to say the least !!! The food was outstanding. The presentation was Food Channel level The entire place is Clean, clean, clean ! The staff were warm and friendly. The service was quick.. We were on lunch break and got back to our meeting with time to spare. The prices are spot on. We will all be back for sure.
We wish to convey another thank you to Guavas
Cuban Cafe.
Garren Hamby
Exceptional! Breakfast was fantastic by mixing flavors on traditional favorites and great portions! Definitely will return for brunch or a dinner!
Hector Salas
I just moved and was looking for a good Cuban sandwich... I got way more! What I love about the sandwich is how there is a balance between all the ingredients... the way the bread comes crunchy ... cheese melted ... the whole sandwich was warm. The decor and music give it a nice Latin vibe. Ownership is around and are very proud of what they serve. I have frequent this place 3 times this month alone. A must visit!
David Mount
Delicious. Nice music. Comfortable atmosphere.
Christine Traxler
This was my second time there. It was so memorable I had to check it out again. It did not disappoint. Great food and not overwhelmingly busy for lunch.
Payton Powell
Came here for a family brunch on a whim and was very impressed. Excellent atmosphere, casual and simple but welcoming. Service was excellent and quick and the food was absolutely amazing. Having given up meat for Lent I chose the veggie hash and shared some of my daughter's fish sticks but I will definitely be back to try the meat offerings. Everyone in our party was very impressed, each meal was delicious and presented very well. They have a modest but solid beverage menu for those that imbibe while having great non-alcoholic offerings for those like me who do not. Definitely recommend their Cuban coffee. We also loved their music selection which ranged from classic Son Cubanos to more modern reggaeton but none of it overwhelmingly loud. Definitely recommend going here.
luis colmenares
Very good food, try the churrasco sandwich or the shrimp bowl. The kid's menu is also very tasty, and quite good portions. Leave some space for some dessert, like the amazing guava and cream cheese pastelito :D
Priscilla Stilwell
Way more expensive than we expected, but the vaca frita is tasty. Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside . . . But the cost! Guess I've been in the Caribbean too long!
Passion fruit juice and Lonely Blond beer on tap were tasty, and hubby liked the tostones. But did I mention the price?
Oh, and breakfast goes until 3pm . . . At least on Sundays.
gadamsetty sneha
It’s a lively place & the day that we visited they had live music until 8pm. Food is good, people are friendly. Tres leches, veggie bowl and omg their chicken burger top my list.
M Bottorff
Decent service. However didn't find the food all that flavorful. I got the picadillo rice bowl and found it to be very bland. As in I took most of it home and have been adding spices to make it taste like something. Hubby got a burger which he thought was really good but the "chips" served with them were also flavorless as well as most were hard as a rock. Couldn't break one in half with my hands. The one thing I loved and ended up getting a side order to go was the fried plaintains. Super yummy. Just be aware that it is on the spendier side,. Think we spent about $40 for 2 lunches without drinks. Also the prices as well as dishes listed online don't match up with the menu at the cafe.
Alex Hummel
Fantastic Cuban food. One of the best in the cities. Counter service. Watch for the specials of the day! My mom had the whole red snapper and loved it. My go to is the veggie bowl and it has been consistently wonderful. Also, the tres leche dessert is excellent.
Doug Petrie
Plantain chips and bean dip were incredible. Their cuban sandwich was delicious and the tres leches was smooth and creamy. Warm and fun atmosphere for a dreary day outside.
kumhoinki28
This is my second time here, I am a visitor here to Saint Paul, I tried EL Cubano but this place is way better in my opinion. As long as I’m here I will make the drive for the food and service. Thank you for the authentic Cuban food experience.
Martina Rahim-Sepulveda
Visited this cuban cafe for the first time over the weekend. I cannot begin to tell you how much I already love this place! The food is exquisite, and reasonably priced. You bet I am coming again manyyy times over. Thank you for the gift of delicious cuban food!

AMAZING—AUTHENTIC—CHILL DATE NIGHT—SO FLAVORFUL—EXOTIC YET NOT INTIMIDATING—wine-beer-baked goods—STRAIGHT from Cuba Staff;)
….this is a true jem that I’m so happy I recently discovered❤️♥️♥️❤️♥️❤️
Shelby Studanski
Awesome food and great people! I’m a big fan of the Havana breakfast. They just redid the dining area and it is very cozy and cute. A favorite part of my Sunday routine.
Cynthia Lettermann
Really spot on Cuban good that hit all the notes. And going there was happenstance. It was recommended by my hairstylist.
I had the Creole shrimp bowl that was tasty without being spicy hot. It also can be a coconut shrimp bowl if you are not info tomatoes. My dinner companion got the Pan con Lechon. A Cuban slow cooked shredded pork sandwich with house fried plantain chips.
Desserts were just as good. I got the guava cheesecake with a solid cheesecake base and sweet/tart guava sauce. My companion ordered the tres leche cake that was served in a pint jar. That was brilliant as it kept all the liquid together and was the base for the whipped cream and cinnamon.
This is definitely a small independent restaurant to support during COVID. I cannot wait until I get back to this neighborhood.
PE Y
Really good meal selection, not $$$$$ Order at desk, meal brought to you short wait. Excellent Coffee! Seriously good coffee. We had 3 different items and all were good. Friendly staff. I'm definitely returning.
Kim Schuster
Food was delicious! Kid's meal was generous serving. Patatas Brava with the aioli was worth the calories. The fresca drinks were flavorful and refreshing. Collard greens were fresh sauteed and yummy! 1st time there, will definately be back. Due to where location is plan a little more time to find parking.
Donald Ramm
Amazing as always breakfast was fresh hot and delicous.
Teddy Moreno Santos
Food was excellent I would recomend this restaurant to everyone!! Paella was really good and I really enjoy it. My wife like it very much as well!! I would return for sure!! Restaurant was very clean and beautiful. Vaca frita is one of my favorites for now!!
Catherine Emily Photography
The food was absolutely amazing! I got the Pan Con Churrasco and my boyfriend got the Cubano and we shared the Guava Cheesecake. Everything has so much amazing flavor and was totally well done. The only negative was that the set up of the restaurant is weird. It’s a very small space and it’s set up with a counter to order and then you choose a table. With all the people walking around and also the staff it felt ultra crowded and the tables were in the middle of the walkway to the counter. If they did it like a regular sit down service it would be a little better but the space was just too small for the set up
Amanda Whitten
Staff was very friendly. It's a come in and grab a menu kinda place. Order at the counter then seat yourself. Great atmosphere, staying traditional while still having a modern feel.
Richard Webb
The food here is amazing - breakfast, lunch or dinner. Nice patio for outside dining as well
Casi B
Great authentic Cuban experience. The passion fruit juice and lime juice were both excellent (passionfruit was better). The cuban sandwich was good but outdone by the pan con lechon. Fried plantains made a great side. ~$35 for 2 people. Will visit again
Charles Bluett
Relaxed environment and great food! I will definitely be back for the Cuban sandwich. Too many places cant get them right. The morning we were there it wasn't immediately obvious they were open - the window 'open' sign wasn't working due to the cold. If you weren't by the windows it was a comfortable temp though.
Janet Dahlem
Awesome food. Super friendly staff. We will return again & tell others
jaisa blegen
After reading reviews I’m starting to think I ordered the wrong things. The tostones were ok but the sauce it came with was great. I had the paella special which was not very good (not traditional paella - the rice was sticky) However, The rice and beans were comparable to the rice and beans I ate in Cuba so that was a plus. They were nice and let me sample all 3 juices that they make lol and they’re all good. I just think their prices are high.
The service was good, and Parking was easy!
I was just a little disappointed because I just came back from Cuba and was hoping for more traditional Cuba dishes (and the way they prepare them). These dishes are a little Americanized and gourmet, and hardly resembled dishes I saw in Cuba. *shrug*
I might come back for live music on their patio tho!
Ali
Friendly service, good vibes, even better food. We went in the winter and it was super cozy next to the fireplace.
Highly recommend the veggie bowl even if you're non-veg, but everything looked great to be honest.
Carris Bible
This place needs actually management. The owners are not doing a good job. The food was hit and miss. Couldn't order have the menu because they were out of a lot of food.
This place has so much potential.. if only it was managed.
Charles Hughes
Beautiful food and coffee. Place was quaint and designed well with good music. I had the ropa vieja rice bowl with a cafe con leche, the only thing I would add would be more plantains in the bowl! Excellent customer service as well. Well reccommend this local spot!
Brady Bisel
Delicious food! Very nice place, very modern. You order at the counter, which felt out of place, but then someone serves you after ordering. They have a nice little patio to enjoy the weather. I suggest trying it.
Seth C
A great addition to the neighborhood! Great food, nice selection of of wine/beer, and a nice atmosphere. A solid attempt at Cuban fare...love the vaca frita! You order at the counter, but several staff stopped by the table to check-in...very friendly service. Also have a large patio.
Missy Roberts
Delicious! The Cubano sandwich was so tasty I had to surrender the ENTIRE other half to my 5 year old! Fun atmosphere. Kitchen is visible and lively. Family owned. Great for all meals. Had a lovely date night with hubby here - steak and yucca frites were yummy. Excited to share this place with my Cuban sister in law next time she's here in Mpls!
Gayo
We would have never discovered Guavas had it not been for word-of-mouth. The food was excellent and savory! Planning our next outing already!
Nicholas Asay
This place is great! Only been for brunch but the food is very authentic, along with the coffee drinks (cortadito is so good), and the space is very comfy. Love that you order at the counter as well! Highly recommend!
Jessica Miller
Oh yes!! The food (bite squad) was soo good! AND YOU HAD ALL THE desserts I wanted. So often places have few options and then they never have them in stock. They came super delightful looking in paper ice cream containers and tasted amazing and fresh! I feasted. Now I must come see the space. Thanks southside!
Ann Rosenzweig
We just visited a couple days ago, and I cannot wait for a reason to go again. The food was amazing (the yuca frita was absolutely the highlight for me!) and the service was friendly. The atmosphere is casual and inviting, the food selection is really intriguing, there are so many things I’d like to try! When the weather warms up, this would be a fun place to enjoy a cortadito and dessert in the patio area on a summer evening.
Joan Bonello
The food was amazing! We ordered from the online menu and the food was delivered to the car during the current Stay in Place situation. We ordered the Aropa Vieja rice bowl, Veggie rice bowl and the Pan Con Polla sandwich. All were delicious! Highly recommend Guavas.
Anne Kealing
They are only open for brunch so far (we tried to go one night and couldn't), but omg it's so worth it to go back. This is in our neighborhood, and I'm so excited to be able to walk/bike over, but even if it were a drive, it's totally worth it. The service is friendly and fast, and the food is AMAZING. They have some good vegetarian options as well.
Tuftybuilt
The best Cuban I’ve ever had!
Katie Paulson
Delicious brunch! I had the French toast. The guava butter is amazing! Perfect amount of food and served very quickly. Coffee was good too. We will be back.
Heidi Ford
First time at this Resturant. Everything we ordered was delicious‼️ We will be back in the future
TJ Chochrek
Food was plentiful and delicious. A Sunday brunch meal is perfect before a Vikings game. Lots of road construction nearby, so take your time. It's worth the trouble you may experience.
Oscar Cumpiano
Just finished gorging myself with delicious food from Guavas. The staff is friendly and efficient bringing savory satisfaction with every trip. We had the specials and were served more than we could eat, but you wont see me complaining cause I know what's for lunch tomorrow!

OMG! So excited to find this place! We love Cuban food. The ropa vieja and lochon asado were very flavorful and tasty. The tres leches cake was very good but done more like a trifle. Still very good, just different. Nice assortment of beers.
Plus parking and tables!
bethany kelly
Super tasty, moderately price Cuban food. This place is a way better fit for the neighborhood than Xavi was. They did a really nice job retrofitting the space too. We've only been for brunch, but everything we've had has been good - veggie hash, shrimp bowl, Cubano, and fish kids meal. Also loved the passion fruit fresca, a great non-alcoholic drink to make you feel like it's NOT -3 outside!
robert ho
Great food. Friendly staff. Nice atmosphere for a relaxed lunch. The yuca fritas were great and the chef really knows how to cook a pig.
Sean Johnston
Awesome food, juices are great but they never have the guava the last couple time I've been!
Bradley Hofbauer
Under-rated! This place is perfect for a mid morning brunch. Plus, Wednesday night date night for only $40.
Martin Sefranek
Food is flavorful, with good portion size. No table service, order at counter and food is dropped off. Comfortable decor.
mercedes scott
I was skeptical going in. As a Cuban living in Minneapolis, I've been disappointed many times with so-called "cuban" fare and restaurants that claim they serve authentic Cuban cuisine. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the menu selection and the quality of the food. We started with the fried-musts in Cuban cuisine: tostones (green plantains) and yuca frita. For our lunch entrees we tried the shrimp bowl (served creole-style over white rice) and the lechon asado (a traditional dish). Overall, a great meal and reasonable pricing. Since they were closing the kitchen at 2:30 (which we don't know in advance), we unfortunately did not have time to try any of the desserts - but will on our next visit! Highly recommend a visit if you are looking for food that is as close to authentic Cuban as you're going to get without visit Cuba, Miami, or my mother's kitchen.
Macenzie Kopka
Very good food and definitely worth the price. It’s very filling and super tasty. Definitely try the Cubano sandwich. Service was very fast as well
DoRi Cabrera
Delicious 😋! They had a $2.99 delicious breakfast special. The server was very nice. Clean and safe 👌 Im not Cuban but it Has that Cuban nostalgia vibe for early morning café con Leche 😍 …
J Bayerl
Food was really great. However, the customer service needs great improvement... I was interrupted twice by cashier talking to a different employee when I was ordering. Food was good though.
Jessica Kloss
Loved the tostones, fried and smushed plantains. So so good. Get them as a side order even if your meal comes with them! Paella and a Cilantrp rice bowl were the specials, we tried both. Paella was really great, delish chorizo. Less impressed by the rice bowl, less flavor than the paella. Went on a cold friday evening, around 630, line when we walked in and you order then find a table. Place is on the smaller side, 15 tables and a counter maybe so when they are busy, seating could be difficult to find. Looked like they would have outdoor seating when the weather allows.

There is no shortage of high praise for this South Minneapolis gem. There has yet to be one dish that I have not found to be delicious. Excellent cafe con leche, chimichurri sauce, fried plantains, Ropa Vieja, friendly service, beyond generous portions all make for a deeply satisfying experience for my taste buds and stomach. :D

I can only give three stars for several reasons.
The first, which by itself would have dropped the number of stars below 3 stars, was the service. When we arrived, it was fairly slow. Our order was about $100 for four people (plus a take home sandwich for someone else). We ordered 4 coffees, one being plain coffee and 2 juices (a passion fruit and a guava). Our food came out extremely staggered and we did not receive our coffees or juices until we were part way done with our meal...and that was after asking. Even after asking, we only received the 3 specialty coffees. We asked again about our plain coffee and juices. After about 10 minutes, I cornered the gentleman that had taken our order at the counter. He finally brought out the plain coffee and the passion fruit and informed us, they ran out of guava (which we saw they served to patrons that ordered 30 minutes after us, which kind of sucks.
Secondly, while the food was tasty, it was not authentic Cuban food as billed. While in an article they mention Cuban-American (Miami), everywhere else it's billed as authentic Cuban food, which is not the case. I can't vouch for the validity of the authenticity of Cuban-American (Miami) flavors, but I can say without doubt, it is not like the Cuban (Cuba) food I experienced in my months of travel throughout the entirety of island nation. It was a disappointment, as I was looking forward to the Cuban food I fell in love with at first bite.
While the food wasn't Cuban as I know it, it was very tasty and may indeed be on par with the Cuban-American food scene in Miami, until they iron out the wrinkles in their service, be prepared for less than ideal wait times, staggered deliveries of your parties dishes, and missed items when served.
Hopefully, next time I'm in town, these issues will have corrected themselves. Until then, I'll just head back to Cuba for the real thing and a mojito.

If you didn't look this restaurant up on google maps, you might have missed it driving by. Within the seemingly droll exterior, exists a cozy restaurant with great spacing, decor, and lighting. The menu contains several sandwich, egg, and bowl options, with good portions. There are no dull flavors here, and you'll find many Central American oriented ingredients, such as plantains, chorizo, and mojo onions. Try the Pan Con Lechon, a reasonably loaded pulled pork sandwich, or the shrimp bowl, for something lighter. They have an interesting coffee menu, with fancy sounding names, but realistically they are milk, coffee, and sugar. Be that as it may, mine tasted rather good. This is a great brunch place.
Peter Griffin
Decent Cubano, but would the pickles to have a bit more bite to them. The Cuban bread was fantastic. Tostados were also good.
I wish they had a liquor license so they could make an honest mojito, but their alternative version was passable.
Would definitely go back.

Guavas is a great place to grab a bite down in South Minneapolis. The food is decent, I wouldn't say it's anything crazy but it's good cafe food. The best thing we had was the pork shoulder rice bowl. Nothing else was unique but I'd definitely say nothing was bad.
Mohamad Khouli
Great, friendly staff. Delicious Wednesday date night dinner special. $40 for a side, 2 Paella, wine carafe.
Jj Johnson
The staff was super friendly and helpful. I ordered the Cubano sandwich. It was so delicious! Literally the best I’ve had in a very very long time! I can’t wait to go back and try other food!!
Ryan Bolduan
It's unfortunate the spot keeps flipping, but Guavas is a welcome addition. I don't feel like it'll be there for the long haul, which is unfortunate because the food is really quite good. Traditional Cuban cuisine with fantastic plantains and a top-tier (and unique) chips and salsa platter.
My only two complaints is that for a wine/beer list their sangria is really only passable and they crank their music way way too loud.
Aaron Spiegle
Very fast and friendly service. A really great neighborhood spot. Every dish I've ordered I would order again. Years later this review holds true.
Kalyna Stitt
Charming place with excellent food. Best flan I've ever had! So creamy and delicious. Highly recommend.
Jose Luis Cabrera
I didn’t think a Cuban restaurant would be authentic in Minnesota, but I was Surprised with Guaba. I had their chicken, rice, beans and onions and the flavors were there, the staff was really nice and attentive. I definitely will go back and also recommend Guaba to my friends!
Desiree Dantona
Guavas has a cozy atmosphere and fantastic food. They do breakfast, lunch, and dinner and their attention and care for their customers has always been evident to me. Highly recommend!
Alex Adair
Very good food. Nice atmosphere. Cuban is great, rice dishes and brunch are amazing. Cheesecake was exceptional too! Highly recommend this place!

So me and the wife went yesterday. It's only the second Cuban restaurant in the twin cities and the first Victor's 1959 which is fake Cuba food and I wrote a negative review on. I was born in Habana and lived in Miami till 2013 and I cook some Cuba food at home. We ordered a Cuban sandwich which was Tampa Cuban style with the salami but it was pressed and seemed buttered like we Cubans do it and the bread was similar to Cuban bread but not exact. But tasted delicious I had pan con lechón which was similar in set up pressed etc. . I tasted mojo in almost every bite it made wonder if they marinated in mojo or just added some. But it was good Both were very close to what you get in Miami which has the best Cuban food even better than Cuba. We had tostones, yuca frita they even have Cuban sodas like jupina, materva, iron beer. Dessert was not so Cuban but delicious tres leche for my wife and I had rice pudding with mango and guava preserve it was amazing. I highly recommend this place so far for the sandwiches and dessert. I need to try the traditional dishes next time.P.S. the frita burger I asked was it made with chorizo patties like we Cubans make it and they said no it's meat patties with chorizo butter. So I stayed away from that item but I understand that theirs not alot of Cubans in the cities so they need to make it more for the non- Cubans. The atmosphere was nice the pictures on the wall I would say with the amazing music that our Cuba has produced I heard very little Cuban music playing. Overall I'm happy that we have a better and new Cuban restaurant in the cities. So stop going to Victor's and support a real Cuban restaurant.
Steven Debner
I enjoyed my pulled pork sandwich. Service was great. Atmosphere is good.
Michael Muenchow
Excellent food. Very true to the food I had when visiting Cuba. Very reasonably priced for the area. The service was much better than you would expect at a counter service restaurant as well. Nothing to complain about here!
Had the pork rice bowl, cubano, both plantain sides, yucca fries, pastelitos and guava fresca.
Pierre Monceaux
Very relaxing experience, good pastries, I haven't tried their food yet but it looks good, plus live music on weekends.
Katy Bonello
Such a little gem of a place. Fantastic food and very laid back and pleasant.
Judy “MsFerreirax33” Ferreira
Really nice atmosphere and staff was nice as well. Definitely recommend.
Dawn S
Wonderful food. I've never been to Cuba but it's on my bucket list. This place brought me back to the years I spent in the Bronx. We tried several items from the menu and a special and everything was wonderful.
Gene Oleson
Relatively new restaurant. restaurant. Nice atmosphere and music is well suites for the establishment. Food was very good. The staff is very helpful. No table service which would be nice but not a big deal to order at the counter. Food is delivered to your table.
joe Tober
WOW! Amazing! The Ropa Vieja with the black beans and rice was amazing! The Flan was the best I ever had!
Andy Dewey
Fantastic food. $3 breakfast special before 10am.This is worth a monthly visit.
J&L Watkins
Well decorated and delicious. My beef was cooked perfectly and the service was kind and helpful. It may not be the most authentic but it’s still an amazing experience.
Aaron Lissarrague
Fantastic food, even better people. We came here for the food, as we are “Comida cubana afficionados.” The small details truly separate Guavas from anything else north of Miami. The bread is wonderful as is the homemade mojo criollo (very difficult to get good Cuban bread). Everything we’ve had is great. Our favorites are the ropa vieja, sandwhich cubano, and the maduros.
What makes this place truly special is the owners. They are very friendly and hard working. Today we had the opportunity to eat while one owner was planting the flower beds and spending time with their family. I love supporting local business, but the owners here are truly special. I am sure many good things are on their horizon.
Yosley de Leon
Good service and food is great. I'll be back!!
Rob Johnson
Lechon Asado was wonderful, very tender meat with just the right amount of char. Getting the beans, rice, and meat all on one bite made a great combination of flavors. Will definitely be back
Evan Christenson
$3 for 2 Eggs, Potatoes and Toast is the best deal I've seen since 2004. The coffee is top 3 among its peers in the Twin Cities.
Joseph Glass
The island of Cuba has given the world 3 great things- Cigars, Tony Olivia, and the Cubano Sandwich.. I was so thrilled to discover this establishment and immediately ordered myself a Cubano without even looking at the rest of the menu 😂
Even having it delivered (by Bite Squad) did not diminish its quality.. This sandwich was Heaven in a aluminum wrapper. After consuming about 3/4 of it, I discovered there was also a side dip in the bag, some sort of pickled diced garlic, ginger, and pickles? I’m unsure exactly what it is, they call it the “house pickles”. Totally blew my mind, the taste is perfectly extraordinary with this sandwich. (In the past, my favorite Cubano dip was sour cream with a dusting of cayenne pepper).
I can’t wait to take my wife on a date and sit down at the actual restaurant for lunch or dinner to explore whatever else they may have on the menu. (Or just to have another Cubano 🤫😂)
Yael Ripoll
Guavas was a new experience for me! Love trying Cuban food and this was certainly an incredibly tasty experience. Friendly staff and the food was authentic.
Brenna Akkerman

Myra Johnson
Came all the way from Wisconsin to try their food. Hands down very delicious. The best Cuban food we have ever tried! Their desserts
out of this world!
R M.
WOW....one of the best cuban sandwiches I've ever had. Only thing keeping me from giving a 5 star review is that as a native Floridian born and raised, the prices are super high compared to the Cuban food you can get in Miami.
Jake Gehler
Food was ready on time for pick up.
Great tasting food. Amazing value.
We will definitely be back for more.
Tiba Navab
Really delicious Cuban food and a great brunch spot!!!
Teddy Moreno
Paella looks more than seafood rice. Was not prepared when arrives. Vaca frita was excellent and Chicharrones .
Kellyn Voss
Really good breakfast menu! I am excited to go back for the rest of their menu! Staff is very friendly. After ordering at the counter the food arrives very quickly.
Nat A. Pierre
Guavas Cuban Cafe is a great place for a nice calm lunch. The food tends to be fairly spiceless for anyone worried about burning their mouths, but they offer habanero and green pepper sauces for those of us who prefer heat. Meals offer good servings of meat with a couple good options for the meatless among us.
Meal prices go from $10-15 and include sides. Stop in for tapas and try the patatas bravas with a cup of coffee. You won't leave disappointed from this delicious spot in Diamond Lake.
Andrea Birkeland
Our favorite takeout spot in South Minneapolis. We would highly recommend the Wednesday date night special with two paellas and a bottle of wine for only $40!

Darren Selberg
Every time we give this place another chance, they screw up our order. We have never received a 100% correct order. And most recently I tried to call after getting home with the order and was on hold (bit could hear everyone) for 20 min and finally hung up
Kelly Cook
