I had never heard of this place until we pulled up along side it. Definitely a casual dining experience with the openish kitchen and choose your own seating. Simple menu. We got a fried fish bowl with grits and greens, a pork bowl with rice and spinach, a romaine salad to share and 2 glasses of wine. The meal cost under $60 and we got our food quickly. Everything we had was delicious, the service was good and prompt and the staff was friendly. Will definitely be back!

It’s the southern cookin’ food for sure. Chicken wasn’t fried though and wasn’t greasy. 👍🏼 We’d recommend the pulled pork as far as best flavor (if you can handle a little fat being boxed in)!! Flavors were really good, but I didn’t feel super healthy with my choices, so if you’re a health nut, beware. Coolest part is that this is a no tip restaurant! They mention on the menu that fair wages and solid employee benefits are provided to employees, so the tip is included with the menu prices! Cool idea.

I must say this place was delicious!! I had the fish and grits. oh my !! So good full of flavor!! Wish it was a tad hotter but I finished it all!! Also he’d yuca fries. Good too!! I will be back. Food was great. Bathrooms were not so great and the restaurant was loud because it was a open kitchen. I didn’t mind.

Absolutely love this place!!! The food here is amazing! I love their pulled chicken w/ red beans and rice and my husband loves the quartered chicken w/ red beans and rice. He also orders the cheese grits for us to share - as southern transplants in the Twin Cities, we were beyond happy to find a restaurant that can make grits and Brasa makes them deliciously!!!!

I had the vegan bowl, the vegetable chickpea curry, and it was amazing. I just finished my leftovers, and it was still so good a day later that I had to write this review. The curry isn’t really spicy, which is perfect for me, but it’s still packed with flavor. I also appreciate that the restaurant doesn’t do tipping and just pays the staff a higher hourly wage. I just wish I lived closer so I could go back sooner.

I love the food her. The atmosphere is great. There are many seating options inside and outside. There is a parking lot in the back of the restaurant. The food is great to mix and match. Everything I have had here is so good. This is also a good option if you are with a larger group because you have the option to order larger portions. I have found that the kids size is the perfect amount of food!

You know, this was alright, not terrible but not stellar. The chicken bowl was jambalaya like, but the rice wasn’t cooked in it. So maybe more gumbo? Regardless, it was something in-between and I felt it lacked an identity. The rice was really dry, it had spice but tbh, nothing beats steamed white rice. The most dominate flavor was the sausage. If you weren’t looking for the chicken, you wouldn’t even know it was there. The pork bowl was similar in the sense that the rice was desert like and the dominate flavor was Wilbur and not much else. The egg was definitely needed to add some moisture. The baked mac’n cheese was solid. Creamy, cheesy, and the crumble on top added texture. It was a little runnier than I prefer but it was better than the bowls. A little side gripe, I hate small drinking cups and especially if you are like me and drink like a parched elephant, you’ll be making frequent trips to the water station. Tangent, the server didn’t do much, brought water, utensils, and menus. That was it, no check ups, and you order on your phone. What warrants a tip now-a-days? I know it’s deeply engrained into murica culture and I tip well, but I just thought it was interesting to see places go more “self-serve” and wonder if tips suffer due to lack of presence at a servers assigned table? Keeping it a buck, I’d go again and try some other items on the menu.

First I want to state how wonderful Alex Roberts establishments typically are. Restaurant Alma is a blessing in Twin Cities culinary scene. Also, kudos to him and his wife for supporting fair wages. Their menu states, "Tipping is not expected at Brasa. Menu prices support premium ingredient sourcing, $16–25/hr wages, paid time off, health/dental/vision insurance for full-time staff and 401k with 4% company match." I like that so my bill is not a surprise to see 20% added at end as at other restaurants. Upfront is best! I preface by saying it has been at least a year since I was last at Brasa. I went for their nice happy hour, as you can't get tacos on regular menu and you can't beat the price! But server could have been more attentive by coming back to tell us happy hour is about to end, would you like more tacos/drinks?! I would have ordered more! I added extra tip anyway as I know how difficult the restaurant scene is currently. Since I did not get my fill during happy hour, I ordered a 2pc chicken plate to go. I was going to eat later and thus, did not look at it prior to getting home. My fault. See the picture. You can see the size of one piece is same size as tines on my plastic fork! They cut one piece of breast meat into 2 pieces. The side I got was collard greens. The paltry amount of food did not match paying $14 for this "plate." This certainly did not match the other reviewers' pictures as others got drumstick plus breast w wing plus sides. Disappointed.

Brasa has been one of my favorite restaurants for over a decade! My partner and I would go to the downtown location for date nights before me moved to Chicago. Now that we are moving back to Minneapolis I can say that having Brasa #3 within walking distance was a consideration when making an offer on our new place near lake Harriet ;) the meal was fantastic and just like I rembered <3 glad to see that even after all this time the Brasa formula still holds strong. Yucca and their green sauce is sooo good. And the cooked meats and ample sides make for leftovers almost every time. Can’t wait to be a regular again.

This is our third time here and it hasn't missed a beat. The food is dang good. I know it's good because my gra don't keep say "YUMMY." I had the fish and grits this time wife had the Rancheros bowl and yucca fries. All amazing, any place that has public enemy on the Playlist you they are awesome.

I really like the smothered chicken with yellow rice and black beans… the chicken is decent and the catfish is pretty good… but the sides are always a miss for me. The greens taste more like spinach and have not flavor, and the sweet potatoes are way too stringy for me. I will say the creamed spinach is pretty good… But as someone with a gluten intolerance, I eat the smothered chicken here often.

We have frequented the North Minneapolis location but never had been to the Lake Harriet location. We walked a couple of miles living on the other side of that lake and it was worth it! The service was with a smile and the food was full of flavor. I ordered the Rotisserie Chicken Bowl and enjoyed every bite. This place takes care of it's employees and that is important to me. We will be back soon!

Friendly staff, great space, and love the food. Vegetarian (and vegan) friendly. I didn't have wine this time but I had a delightful Malbec last time I was there (and I don't even really like wine all that much). I always order a bunch of sides (to share if I'm there with others), plus I end up with leftovers to take home. The sauce that comes with the yucca and plantains is the greatest sauce ever.

Chelsea is absolutely adorable! I have a new allergy and she went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of. Talked to the kitchen staff and communicated effectively. I’ve never had a server who took so much care down to googling if my drink had trace amounts of what’s I’m allergic to. Total gem and grateful for people like Chelsea.

We had an amazing server who was kind, fun, and exceptional at their position. We will make this a regular spot and share with friends, family, and Co workers. Three of us each ordered sandwiches. I could have enjoy so much any one of them. I had the egg salad sandwich. It was perfect. Chips were unique and tasty, we added a side of guacamole for those. A great lunch to start a great Sunday Funday.

Wonderful, casual yet special date night spot!! After getting the farm egg sandwich for take-out once before and tasting the side of plantains, I knew I had to come back for a sit-down meal and am glad I did. Delicious food (perfectly fried fish sandwich for me this time) and very friendly, welcoming environment. Can be a bit chilly in winter by the front windows. Very pleased with this eatery in the space that was Java Jack's once upon a time and will be visiting often.

Brasa was something I discovered on a diet I was doing. It looked like good clean foods and 100 percent was. The fact they take care of their staff, have great foods, and are affordable makes it a great option. I wish other restaurants would copy their model honestly. Been to 3 of their locations and had great meals at each. Get the yuca fries.

Gosh dang this place is good. Pulled pork, crispy yuca are always on our order; and the salad, chips, guac, collards, beans and rice are great tasty (healthy one might say?) options. Consistent and wonderful tasting, also reasonably priced I would recommend anyone to get this as take out during shutdowns. The other two other restaurants have pleasant inside atmosphere and we will look forward to trying this one out in the future as it is closer to home.

Studio 2 was a fantastic spot and will be sorely missed. Luckily, now we have Brasa. After trying a few sandwiches which were fine, I ended up trying one of the bowls. Another flawless outpost of Alex Roberts’s excellent Latino roast meats establishment. The chicken was very good. Not perfect but this was opening day. All sides were fresh and high quality - nothing seemed like it was sitting around a long time. Beans, rice, collard greens and fried yuca all winner. And the green sauce is a winner. Brasa has always been a top staple in our restaurant dining choices for our family and guests since it opened, always the St Paul location. The STP team, especially Courtney are amazing and always keep us coming back. Miss the Pineapple Ginger Ale - which I understand is gone forever. We've been getting take out occasionally from the new location in South Mpls as it is closer to home. The location is great, but some of the food is a bit inconsistent versus STP (we never go to the NE location for the same reason). I usually rate Brasa all 5's but this is the 3rd time we've gotten the collard greens from the South Minneapolis location and they taste nothing like the STP location - which we just got take out from last Wednesday. Not like the STP location meaning not good. Seasoning is completely different and almost has a southwestern flavor which isn't working. Some the other sides we got in Mpls are also not the same as in STP. As long as the weather isn't terrible, looks like we'll continue to go to STP as everything is always consistent and delish!

This place on a Monday is not too busy at night, at least in the dining room, the deliveries were non stop. I had a chicken red curry, it was really good. I didn't have much to eat so I don't want to give too much into the details of the food. I do however want to come back because of the relaxing environment and its cleanliness. You have no idea how small businesses can be filthy behind the scenes, but I could see it was quite clean. So not a full review but I thought I would give it a decent mention, as I do intend to return because they have my curiosity and Thai food is one of my favs!
