Reviews of Billy Sushi ビリー寿司
The seafood here was very delicious. The thick slabs of fish on the seafood platter I believe was my favorite. The different rolls we had were delicious as well. We needed to take off mangoes as one of our crowd was allergic. They actually forgot this and this could have been very dangerous. Overall the staff was very helpful. Will be in again soon. I also had their whiskey drink which was very tasty. The smell of it was pretty incredible. We ordered a pine ridge bottle which was a good supplement to the sushi. The avocado bites were so good, they had a type of truffle sauce on them. Definitely recommend getting those.
Wife & I really enjoyed our dinner last night at Billy Sushi. Good service, nice ambiance with nod to Japan sushi restaurants. The highlight was the fresh fish and our tuna dish. We also ordered the grilled tuna collar (try it if you haven’t, it’s one of the best parts of a tuna). Rolls were a good size. We’ll be back and recommend it. Cost was $150 for 2 people (food and drinks). I’d skip the seaweed salad next time. Also, the sushi bar was tight and we couldn’t open 2 menus side by side, so I felt cramped to me. I’d request a table if possible.
Billy Sushi is an excellent place to dine in the North Loop area. The sushi rolls we tried (the Lefty, the George Clooney, and the Crunchy Roll) were all fantastic. The drinks were creative, including a few in really fun glasses. I definitely recommend trying some sake; they have a unique approach to serving it that I won't spoil for you here. The restaurant interior is vibrant, but still feels cozy. There is definitely a pulsing energy to the place that not everyone will enjoy, but it seems to work for their target market. We had a great time and we'll definitely dine there again.
As always, a sushi place run by Billy never disappoints! We've been a fan of his for years, but we haven't been able to frequent his place given a move to WA...we're now back, and this place was amazing.
The fish was hands down the freshest we've had is quite some time. Unique rolls and excellent atmosphere!
I had a great experience here. The food was delicious and inspiring. The menu was well written with cheeky discriptions. Yes it's a little pricey but the portions were rather large. Great quality meat as well so it was worth the $$. Cocktails were also refreshing and well made. The atmosphere was alive, busy, full of life. Staff were pleasant, professional, attentive and were very nice. I would dine here on a regular basis if I lived here. I would also come back to visit when I travel back to Minneapolis.
I have mixed feelings on this place. I love the atmosphere AND the sushi.. SO GOOD. The sushi names are funny & clever. But the service is very slow and it's NOT good for groups. They don't let you split up the check. The past few time I've been there, I've still been hungry after leaving. BUT the sushi is gorgeous and so delicious.
I came for an omakase style dinner, and I was not disappointed! Food tasted very flavorful, and drinks that were recommended were great! The staff was very welcoming and answered all our curiosity about the place regarding Billy and his designs. I will come here again. 😁
Such a great place to eat and be social. Love this place. The food amazing. Super fresh. The drinks are expensive and small so be prepared to love the taste but not the bill for alcohol but you should know that going in. To be expected. The sushi itself is great. Try the wagyu! Great service all around as well. #1 sushi spot in Minneapolis.
Best sushi in Minneapolis by a long shot. Every roll was fresh and masterfully balanced as far as flavor is concerned. Staff was amazing and on point in every single facet, drinks were great and extremely varied. I was also lucky enough to get a seat at the sushi bar and got to watch the chefs in action and it was amazing. I might've accidentally photo bombed an award placement so hopefully I'm allowed back.
One of the best spots for sushi in Minneapolis! A very large selection on the menu, so much to choose from. And great service with lively music, a very elevated dining experience. We enjoyed starting with the Calamari Salad & Crispy Rice Tuna. And for rolls, we really liked the NoLo YoLo, B.A.D & Boujee, and Boom Island. And a nice selection of cocktails, a great place to celebrate special occasions.
Such an amazing dining experience packed into 2 hours. From the attentive service, the world- class menu from sakis, to the flavorful sides, the amazing presentation and quality of each and every roll my family couldn't rave enough about each bite. Plus ive never seen a dehydrated towlette thats quality stands up to event the heftiest of napkins. Billy has a great staff and the best sushi in town 🍣
I enjoyed the expirence here.
The sushi was beautiful and tasted great! And the service and space was really cool.
The menu was massive but still readable so that was good!
The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the not sushi (the yaki soba to be exact) it had an interesting apple cider taste which I am not a big fan of haha.
But other than that it was an amazing place and would recommend trying their sushi
Food and service was TopNotch! A little disappointed they don’t offer desserts but I baked a cake since it was my ex husbands birthday so we didn’t need to order dessert. Mike was our server. He was quick, charming and knowledgeable.
Had a fantastic experience at the bar with Mike. He was really pleasant to talk to, had great knowledge of the food, the whiskey, and the saki. This place has fresh wasabi too!!! Very hard to find that stuff. I think it’s by request though. I liked the atmosphere too, music wasn’t too loud and it added to the experience. Would definitely recommend!
Came here for Mother's day. SCALLOP sashimi was good, some omakase side orders waygu and Toro toped with caviar were the best tasting, waygu hand roll was delicious, the only thing that was disappointing was the Hamachi kama it was too salty and the salmon sashimi was definitely not fresh. Over all I would go again service was impeccable now I know what to order. The rolls were standard but that's just my take.
Best Sushi in Minneapolis!! Decided to walk in for dinner on Valentine’s Day! Was worth the wait! During this time the staff was extremely friendly and recommended to enjoy a beverage at the bar. The atmosphere was incredible music, decor and the feel of the place, I thought I was in a chic spot in NYC. I enjoyed a local on tap beer from Modist Brewery (oatmeal stout) It was smooth and creamy, like a true stout should be.
We finally caught a two top table in the bar and our server came with recommendations for our dining experience! We started our conversation with the traditional edamame and the beef kushi yaki.
We hit a home run on valentines roll (roll special) and the Supreme Combo!! The fish melted in our mouth! No need for wasabi & gluten free soy sauce! I haven’t sushi this good since google review was a thing!!
Sushi was high quality. I prefer a place with less airs and pretentiousness. We ordered a bottle of champagne, an appetizer, and five rolls and were asked to leave after 90 minutes. (This was on a Monday night.) I understand the need to recoup money from Covid, but one of the main reasons people go out for sushi is for the experience; and that’s ruined when you can’t take the time to savor the salinity of the hon that was swimming freely several hours earlier.
Went for Omakase with my partner. Great experience, though not as intimate as I feel their website/marketing implies. The space feels great for after work meals and perhaps not entirely romantic. This is a place I will take friends and visiting colleagues in the future. The bathroom is a bit overwhelming with the Hollywood posters everywhere 😅
Everything was delicious. Fresh and thoughtfully prepared. Wonderful flavor profiles. My only complaint is that when given the choice between Pellegrino or soda water and choosing soda water, I was charged $5 per soda water. Literally sparkling water from a gun, so those are either really expensive lime wedges or this was a total ripoff. I would have been fine with one charge and a free refill, but $10 for somewhere near 24 oz. of water (after ice) is egregious. Still five stars because I’m hoping to just speak truth to my other sober folks and designated drivers out there. @BillySushi - I’m sure your patrons would appreciate a warning on something like a $5 non-Pellegrino water.

I love Billy Sushi! Portions are excellent! I enjoyed a double date evening with our best friends and loved every minute. Love the whiskey and sake selection. We will definitely be going back!
We chose to sit at the sushi bar although we had a table reservation. You get to see all that is going on on the sushi making process. The sushi rolls were among one of the top ones that I’ve had, specially the screaming O!, also, an NBA star from timberwolves sat next to us at the bar. I just wish the reservations were not so booked in advance so we could come here with more friends and family.
Did the $125 omakase and it was totally worth it, but I wish so badly I had enough stomach room for the $150 one because nigiri is my favorite! Coming back just to order the nigiri special.
Best sushi I've ever tasted (toro mania was seriously WOW), and the drinks were fantastic too (and it came in a fun fish cup! So creative!). Really friendly and knowledgeable servers and fun atmosphere. Great spot for date night!
Grabbed sushi takeout from here after work and it was delicious. Very fresh flavors, especially for Midwest sushi. Definitely on the expensive end, but it’s quality and we would have been ok just ordering one roll per person instead of 1.5 (we ended up with leftovers).
Excellent ambiance and food- I cannot say enough about the waygu and sushi. I was impressed with the service and the extensive sake and whisky options. I am still dreaming about the meal!
Love the atmosphere and food. I got a few sashimi dishes and they all taste phenomenal. Highly recommended!!!
The food was pretty good but it just way too expensive. I ordered karaage(Japanese fried chicken) and I was really, very, disappointed about the fried chicken quality. I felt I wasted my money on it. This place is good to try.
A must stop if you like sushi. Food was very good. I thought it was worth the price it was per person because i walked out full.. Enjoyed the experience, will return.
Excellent food and service. Some of the best sushi I have had. Drinks were fantastic. Will be my new go to sushi place when visiting the Minneapolis area.
The experience was just awesome! Jessie made sure that my family was satisfied! The food was delish! Will come again!
Best restaurant I've ever been to! Best sushi in Minnesota period! Best service of any establishment ever. Made for the best birthday dinner I could have asked for! I can't wait to come back and try omakase!! If you skip bluefin tuna sashimi here you have made a terrible mistake. Do the sampler appetizer that will show you all the cuts of bluefin and have you mesmerized once you reach the fattest cuts. Absolutely the best wait staff I've ever experienced. They make you feel like your the only people there at the time. Make a reservation!
I came here for my birthday and was blown away! The server was amazing and seemed to know everything, even suggesting drinks and rolls based off our likes. The environment is so fun and the drinks and sushi are some of the best I have ever had. I'll for sure be back!
This place was a whole experience, the drinks are modeled from the music in the 90s , This is very fresh and vibrate, trendy cocktail menu, (food coming soon) happy hunting, I wish you a( B. A . D) experience
I'll say I wasn't really prepared, when I walked in. Very modern, higher end dining. I got the Lefty and Mojo rolls. Both were very good. I could have left, but I wanted sushi and they were ranked very high. The price is what got me though, 2 rolls and a water were just under $45. I can see it being worth the price though.
Number one thing I did like was that the chefs really try and impress and seem to like their work. As a former chef, it's either you love the work or it gets you by until you find something better. Waiting staff were very efficient, and one sang Happy Birthday like an opera singer and was impressive!
I'm glad I came in to try it out.
Seven or us (group of 9) are first timers at BS tonight. The front desk staff was very friendly and showed us to our table. The hot towel was replaced with a dried table like and expanded when hot water was poured on it. I was quite impressed with the list of Japanese whiskeys this place has and opted for a Modist Supra, our friends had the "Whiskey Drunk & Bulletproof" cocktail, a delicious cocktail. Our server, Quinn, was knowledgeable and addressed all of our questions. We settled with a Sashimi Platter (18 pieces), 2 Blue Waves and 1 Dragon rolls. The quality of the fish was very good and the cut was generous! The Old Fashioned was good (not great). We had a pleasant small chat with the Manager, Mark, as well. Overall, the entire experience was great - if you are looking for good sushi in a lively environment! We will be back. Thanks for a fun evening.
Food was amazing, service was out of this world. True Japanese hospitality, and true commitment too a craft. Wonderful drinks and great vibes. Come with a wad of cash tho, it is expensive. But it's an experience. A great one. The fish is so fresh, tried real Wasabi for the first time it was great. The vibe was awesome, very beautiful place. 500 dollars well spent will keep coming back
The sushi was great and ready very quickly. The Silly Billy, the Tiger Maki, and the Screaming O were all fantastic!
Food was excellent, service was pretty good, but the food came very slow. It is a busy restaurant, we needed reservations on a Monday and didn't get in until 8:15pm. We ordered a few apps, a few rolls and a sashimi sampler. The edamame and shishito peppers came quick, but the rest of the order took 45 mins to an hour plus. Seemed quite long for food that is not cooked. The wait aside, everything else was great. Food was really good and sushi rolls were unique. Vibe was energetic and decor was cool. I would definitely go back and if my slow food was a fluke, I would move it up to 5 stars.
Fun ambiance with a throwback to old Minneapolis architecture. Food was exciting and sushi was fresh. Drink could be better. All and all, an experience worth repeating
First and Foremost, I was so blown away by everything at this place I don't even know how to start my review. I'll try to start at the beginning... walking in, you have your temp taken and they ask where you'd like to sit (sushi bar or table), I ALWAYS opt for the sushi bar and it having been over 7 months since I've been able to sit at one, I could not pass up the chance! The seating is distanced for COVID, everyone is wearing masks (fully wearing them, not below the nose or chin diapers).
The crew manning the sushi bar were extremely quick to greet us and made us feel welcome from the second they saw us; they engaged in discussion, helped with menu questions and even inserted themselves when they heard us debating a couple different roll options. We were shown a few of the specials as they were going out (had we not seen them, we likely wouldn't have ordered them). Currently offering a BlueWave Roll, A5 Waygu and Lobster Hand Roll, and Waygu (lightly seared with truffle oil and fresh wasabi) - the waygu dishes looked so good we gobbled them up before I could take a photo).
We also ended up ordered several rolls, some Nigiri, and Sashimi. In the photos: Naughty Ninja, Mexican, BlueWave, 4 different kinds of Tuna from lean to fatty (we ate them one after another to really taste the difference - that was fun!), Salmon, and Yellowtail. With the Waygu dish having fresh grated wasabi on top we asked if we could have a side of that for our sushi - if you've never had this, it's worth asking for it, very different from the pre-made stuff (earthy, flavorful, and often not as aggressive) - they were happy to oblige.
Billy stopped over to chat with us for a bit, which was very kind. He even scraped a few of the tuna pieces from our dish cause he didn't like how they looked and gave us new ones - while I'd never have known the difference, I appreciated the attention to detail he had. What a fun guy!
I already can't wait to go back and I'd encourage you to get there very soon!
December 16, 2021 update: just wanted to give Billy a very special shout-out for his generosity this week, you make the world a better place! Thank you
Best sushi I've ever had. Generous portions. Great flavors. Only knock on the place is the service. Server was very slow to come back and check in. We'd have ordered more drinks but didn't see her again until it was time for the check.
We had a wonderful experience tonight. Stephen our server was knowledgeable, attentive, and did not rush us at all allowing us to enjoy the whole dining experience.
It starts with a warm towel to cleanse your hands. How innovating... a small looking tablet was in a dish, the server pours hot/ warm water on it to expand the towelettes!
The food was delicious. I have become a sashimi fan, the sashimi is hands down the best we have tasted so far. The cut, the quality, the freshness. It's like butter melting in your mouth and the thickness made it over the top! A mouthful with every bite.
The rolls, down to the rice was also like butter but with all the right textures. Melts in your mouth and so flavorful. Plus a good rice ratio because no one likes a roll with too much rice.
The drink were top notch from the whisky to the sake to the cocktails.
The sushi chefs were so friendly...Ernest "E" and team. We loved it!!
Food and service was great!! However we did arrive 30 minutes late for our table but did call ahead to let them know..they were okay with that. We were struggling with the closed roads and GPS routing us around, parking was difficult too. We stayed our exact 2hr birthday meal, was getting ready to leave but still conversing here and there. The manager approached us telling us that they needed to have our table for the next customer. That was a bit different given we just spent $700.00 for four people…it’s not like we were sipping wine all evening and ate only two sushi rolls….they obvious knew we were leaving cause bill was paid and the waitress already packed our food for us..have dined in lots of finer restaurants and spent more money than this and never have been asked to leave….Probably won’t go back….that was Rude given they knew we were leaving….
Sushi here is great! Love the variety and freshness. Next time would love to come back and try some different foods. Our sashimi cuts were great. And they even had root wasabi! Just watch what you order because the prices can stack up quick. Portions are good.
Where do I begin...The food was incredible! It was fresh, unique and delicious. The po- boi appetizer was cooked to perfection, crispy with a good spice. The Beef Udon was hearty with a good broth. Fresh noodles, tender meat, perfectly balanced. Out of the rolls I tried my favorite so far was the mistletoe. Soft shell crab wrapped in sashimi.
Absolutely fantastic! Fish a super fresh and service is great!
Billy sushi is definitely one of the best sushi restaurants in metro area. Their food quality, location and service is definitely one of the best. All of us were impressed with their restaurant interior. Very modern and at the same time is very classy. We ordered hamachi jalapeño and Hot si-fu salad from starter menu and followed with sushimi and couple rolls. All of our orders came very fast.
Fresh and tasty sushi, also nice sake. There is no dessert on the menu, indicating they really follow the Japnese dining tradition. The atmosphere was great and they have friendly staff. The restaurant was full when we got there. Expect a long waiting time if no reservation is made.
The service was good and the food was very tasty. They have a wide variety of available options and many styles of sushi / nagiri to chose from.
Certainly one of the best sushi spots in the cities. I would highly recommend a visit.
Came here for dinner with friends and had phenomenal time! The ambience and service was equally great! I can recommend getting any of their house sushi rolls they all taste very fresh, I particularly enjoyed the Toro Mania and the NoLo YoLo. Some of the best sushi I've had in the Twin Cities by far!
Excellent food and some great drink options as well! If you're planning to go during prime time (like Saturday evening/night), you may want to call ahead or go online to make reservations. Parking options are street (with meters) and nearby ramps.
What's not to love that hasn't been said already? Simply one the top 2 or 3 dining options in all the north loop. Consistency is the key at billy's. Oh, and they make a mean egg white whiskey sour. Mark the manager is great to talk with and the staff are fantastic. Just go if you haven't.
this will be a easy straight forward review - best sushi you will ever have!! our go to here is the blue fin tuna sashimi and salmon. simple, fresh, delicious. the bar is our favorite spot to seat.
Great spot, fresh fish and awesome rolls.
One of my favorite restaurant in MP
Mike is one of the best servers i ever had
Best sushi in Minneapolis, hands down. The menu is huge, and contains all the classics you could want as well as a variety of new creative dishes. I was impressed with the cocktail menu- the Keys to Paradise cocktail was so good I had at least two... don't quote me on exact number!
I got about 4 sushi rolls- silly billy, George Clooney, number nine, and the red dragon. They were all impressive but the Silly Billy was incredible! A unique spin on a classic and I loved their playing and presentation of the rolls.
My favorite part of the whole meal was their nigiri. The tuna was such high quality it practically melted in my mouth.
Can't wait to go back and get some more of their melt in your mouth nigiri!
Great customer service ,superb sushi chefs, and happy knowledgeable bartenders, awesome place to treat yourself and others
The quality of ingredients was excellent, the quantity was over my expectations, the interior was inviting and we were promptly seated and greeted. We had a wonderful evening..... and here's what would have made it better:
I'm not fond of a time limit on dinner- what I thought was encouragement to take our time (90 minutes) was actually a time limit, not very tactfully handled
Our server was very personable, but as he informed us it was only his 8th shift. In this setting information is a big help to making choices and appreciating the dishes. He couldn't be of much help without more training and experience.
The portions were on the generous side, but at the expense of presentation. Uneven slicing, sashimi plates piled rather than composed, large tangles of oversized ginger, haphazardly formed rice under the nigiri, downright sloppy maki.
It all tasted great, but I think next time I will look for a place with experienced servers and a track record of careful attention to detail. Also I would hope not to run into a time limit. It is quite expensive so be demanding
So good. Great environment. The drinks that come in the bird glasses are my favorite! So fun.
Great variety of rolls offered. Our server was very knowledgeable about the drinks and different kinds of rolls (especially important since I don’t like spicy food)! A little pricey but all the rolls we got were delicious.
Incredible experience!
You can't get fresher and better sushi. The fatty tuna was insane! Their rolls are generous and very well crafted.
This is a must visit place. Period.
I had an absolutely phenomenal experience. The sushi, “conversation starters,” and Japanese whiskey were beyond any expectations I had going in. This is a genuinely quality establishment.
Feedback on service: please have your hosts not prompt patrons to climb awkwardly between the table and couch seat smashed close together to get to their spot.
Food and service were great and I will definitely be back. I got the chef's choice nigiri and enjoyed everything, especially the bluefin.
I also ordered the Japanese fried chicken. I didn't know what to expect of the JFC but liken it to fancy boneless Korean fried chicken (KFC). Also recommend.
My drink had a fancy name to it but it was basically an old fashioned with Japanese whiskey. I like that it didn't come with a giant ice cube that dilutes the drink too much.
The other five people in my party ordered rolls and it came on one giant platter. If the server asked my friends if they intended to share their rolls, they would have all said no and requested separate plates. Everyone came away pleased with their meals though.
The sushi was pretty good. And a lot better than a lot of places in Minnesota, well probably one of the best places. The fish was definitely fresh. I wanted the sashimi platter, but got the sushi platter on accident. No complaints though. The fish was still delicious. I ordered the uni, sea urchin, and it was not fishy at all. I was very impressed with that. When you know the difference between bad and fresh uni, you definitely know. It was sweet and melted right in your mouth. I could've eaten more, but I wanted to savor the other types. The bluefin tuna was absolutely amazing. Those also melted in your mouth and I shared the pieces and it was a huge hit! I would definitely go back. The ambiance was nice and very fitting for this type of restaurant. The prices for everything was fair and not overpriced. I am very impressed and would definitely come back. I will definitely share the news about this place. Thank you for the amazing food!
Best sushi I’ve had in the twin cities! Be warned, it is very expensive, but worth it in my mind!
Great service and excellent food. I highly recommend trying the Double-D and Mistletoe rolls as well as the Crispy Rice Tuna starter! Everything was so delicious.
Amazing sushi and Billy After Dark downstairs was incredible. Reservations required!!!
My experience was nothing short of amazing. Billies, was full wth reservations itthe of the night beautiful manger got us best place in the at bar wth master craft makers of mpls. The sushi an from apps to rolls from servers to ownerships an Billy all the hype an some the real deal 👌! An thank u Master craft makers Bryant really an Billy for a round u all are amazing 👏
Blue fin cheek, this was amazing!! One of these could feed 3 or 4 people. The other rolls we got were also great.
Its popular and so the meal was rushed...the waiter suggest we had 90 mins for the meal unfortunately. No warm sake...and the sashimi was cut way too thick....flavors were good.
Kyle was incredible and this place is even more so. The quality of the sushi here is top 3 I have had across the globe. Highly recommend this place.
This place is amazing!!! The sushi is unreal and sooo yummy! Billy the owner is an amazing guy and take good care of his customers! They follow the covid-19 rules and are very clean! The layout is really cool watching them make some of the sushi is always neat to see!!! The staff was great they make sure you are taken care of!! This is definitely a great date night if you love sushi!!! Will be back soon!!!
Very good sushi also expensive they don’t take AMEX platinum!!!
Excellent menu all around. Sushi was great, the starters were excellent and the drinks were well prepared. Will be going back again for sure!
Best sushi I've ever had!! I've been eating sushi for many years...Can't wait to go back!
Amazing food, drinks, and ambiance! The sushi is so well done and unmatched in the twin cities. The menu offers amazing cocktails and an awesome selection of sake. Can’t say enough good things about this place!
Food was incredible, however it feels like you are sitting at one large table with strangers for how tight it is. Also they hate Amex (I’ve never seen a restaurant say this)
My absolute favorite sushi spot! I brought my mom here when she visited and this was her favorite restaurant in the Twin Cities :) The sashimi pieces are generous and delicious. The seafood is very fresh. It is on the expensive end, but I highly recommend if you're looking to celebrate a special day or have a visitor in town!
Awesome sushi, I highly recommend! Great space & atmosphere. I will definitely be back.
A fun place to grab a sushi dinner on a Saturday night. They have a few vegan choices to choose from - all that we tried were delicious 😋.
Billy’s is always a good vibe! It’s a fun, sexy, local. For downtown Minneapolis (let’s be honest, we’re nowhere near a coast), this is a great place to get fresh sushi, sashimi, etc.
If your friends are down to share, the Sushi boat is a fun experience. Also known for their cocktails, it’s a great place to try something new.
This is the must stop Sushi experience of Minnesota! There's a well thought out and delicious menu! We had their Uni (Sea Urchin) sushi which is a rare treat in a land-locked State! Our drinks came in lil Pufferfish Cups. Everything that they present is worthy of mention and a picture!
The food was to die for and very fresh. Love the atmosphere and the service was A1 . Definitely recommend if you are a die hard sushi lover.
What an experience. Loved the overflowing pour of Saki. Everything was fantastic. Can’t wait to go back.
Some of the best sashimi I've ever had, which I would suggest you stick to. Appetizers are really great too.
Rolls are overly complicated, combine too many kinds of fish, which is sort of bad practice, so skip them, you're just wasting good fish. Get the 18pc combo.
Best sushi in town! Went there for my birthday. Service was really good and the food was even better. Cocktails were amazing.
Grew up on the coast and was 🍣🍣 spoiled for years. Billy's is no joke! Real deal sushi folks. Even the uni was fresh and oh so good!! Shout out to Bosco from Mongolia. Maybe the best under 30 sushi Chef in the county. …
The chef's choice Nigri was the highlight of the meal for me. I honestly could've had an entire meal of that. The rolls we got and the veggie tempura were also great. Very enjoyable, though it can be very difficult to get into without a reservation. The atmosphere felt very "Sushi Party" which is less our preference. We ultimately have a preference for Kado no Mise, given the money being spent, but you will not go wrong coming to Billy Sushi.
The sushi was good, service was wonderful. The 2-14 was my favorite sushi roll. The Screaming "O" was good, but a bit salty.
Some of the best sushi I've had. Even compared to places along the coast I've been to. It's pricy, but definitely worth it!
Incredibly delicious. Ordered the rainbow roll and the toro nigiri for take out and my gosh, hella generous with the fish which I really appreciate! I went inside the restaurant and it is beautiful. Thank you Billy Sushi and I will definitely order again! Hopefully frequently!
Best sushi I have ever had! Make a reservation because this place is so spectacular and fills up fast!!
Incredible experience. Amazing sushi. The drinks and sushi were great. Great advice from the staff about the sake and whisky. Must go for sushi fans.
Me and my fiancee have heard good things about this place and have been wanting to come here for some time. Came here tonight on a whim for my birthday dinner after I mentioned I was craving sushi.
This place is fantastic. Absolutely incredible. One of the best meals I have ever had. The waiter was excellent too. The drinks were amazing as well. We got the chefs choice nigiri which comes with 10 pieces and it was great because it was 2 selections of 5 pieces, so my fiancee and I didn't have to share each piece. The old fashion is one of the best I've ever had. It's a special occasion restaurant for our budget, but we will Absolutely be back.
Wow! Amazing food and friendly staff. The ambiance here was so energetic and welcoming - nothing pretentious or intimidating. I appreciated our server’s knowledge and willingness to engage with us about our questions beyond simple answers. I learned about blue fin cheek and all of the steps that the restaurant takes to ensure fresh and quality fish each day. Looking forward to returning!
A load of sushi options and drinks. Noisy background but the quality of the food and having a knowledgeable waiter drowned out the bustling atmosphere. The only thing that put a downer on the experience as a first timer at this spot was when the hostess welcomed us, we said seating for two and her response was, " you will only have an hour in a half because your table is reserved after that. " Sounds like reservations are more than a suggestion to avoid experiencing that comment.
Visited on 5/2/2022. I had an issue with the food presented.
EDIT: Reached out to Quinn who made an effort to speak with chef and his team and offered a sincere apology. It was a very friendly conversation and feedback was well accepted. I went back on 5/21/2022 which was an excellent experience. I have changed my review from 3 to 5 stars based on the exceptional feedback from Quinn, his chefs, and getting to talk with Billy himself!
Absolutely wonderful! The food was amazing, I love that the menu has pictures of everything, there are so many creative options. The staff was awesome and we sat at the sushi bar and got to watch all of the prep, which was very cool. Head's up that you definitely need to make a reservation in advance because this is the hip, trendy place to be. But it's worth it for sure!
Very good food and a nice atmosphere. Our server was attentive and friendly. The beef Kushi yaki was a surprise favorite—so tender and flavorful! Knocked one star mainly because we felt rushed with the time limit reminder and speed of service, even though we left with reservation time to spare. We also would’ve paid a fair amount more than planned if we followed our server’s suggestions, so keep an eye on price if that’s important to you.
The best place I've been for sushi in Minneapolis, hands down. We went spur of the moment, but were able to get bar seating quickly. The bartenders were helpful, kind, and helped us pick stellar wine and rolls. We ordered the Wagyu skewers, Paradise roll, and the Silly Billy roll. We will be back soon to try other rolls, because we had a hard time choosing what to order... They all looked great!
Best Sushi in Town! Creative dishes that vary from other places. Highly recommend.
Billy is not only a phenomenal chef but also a passionate business owner with an appreciation for animals, food, and culture.
All of this shows up in the artistry of his dishes. It is a unique menu with some of the traditional items also in rotation.
The Screaming O is the best sushi, I’ve ever had and well worth the price.
I have eaten here for times and never disappointed after trying 16 items on the menu thus far.
Every seat in the house is good! The aesthetics are everything! Unique art, colors, materials and lighting.
High quality sake (the best in TC) and fun looking drinks.
Emma is a very attentive server!
This place is pricey but definitely worth it.
Reduced gluten menu and gluten free soy sauce!
Only issue is how busy this place is and hard to get reservations at. Lastly, not a huge fan of the right bathroom wall art. Too fetishized.
If I could give this place 10 stars I would. Excellent sushi, presentation was phenomenal, service steps were all met and great ambiance. Mark is an asset to their team. We will be back!
Get the bluefin tuna trio, walu walu, any junmai ginjo sake, and keys to paradise cocktail.
Great sushi! Many gluten free options. The drinks were good but small. Our server was fabulous!!! All the food at our table was excellent!!!
If you skip reservations and decide to try for a bar seat, arrive prior to opening. The line starts to form about 15 minutes before opening. They ask that you observe the 90 minutes dining rule.
Paid on street parking available.
I cannot say enough good things about Billy Sushi. It was the best sushi I have ever had! The chefs were so friendly! It was pricey but also something I’ll never forget!
Truly an amazing restaurant that deserves the positive reviews you will see online. The Sushi is fresh and pleasantly creative. The service professional, low key but always present. The atmosphere is a wonderful vibe appropriate for all ages. Happy to recommend!
This is the most incredible sushi I have ever eaten. We ordered the sashimi platter of bluefin tuna, chefs choice nigiri, Fancy and furious, Double D, rainbow roll, and the Mistletoe. The rolls are completely packed with fresh fish. The fatty tuna is to die for. Thank you for this amazing meal!
Sushi was extremely fresh and the staff was knowledgeable. Wanted to do the omekase but because one chef was gone we were not allowed to do it. Damn near ordered the whole menu and to be honest the "big wave" was by far the tastiest of the rolls.
The sushi, and service is amazing! Bjorn was our server and was wonderful, along with Quinn. The "tears of dawn" sake was amazing but snuck up on us and it was tears at dawn for sure! This is a must visit!
Wonderful bluefin plate of 3 different sashimi cuts along w Sushi fix standards like George Clooney and Silly Billy. Was out of a couple sushi choices eg, mackerel and snapper, likely the 4th of July weekend or not in season.
Cool spot with good drinks. We waited almost 45 minutes to be seated after our reservation start time.
Amazing eating experience!
FRESHEST 🐟 IN TOWN!
Creative and beautiful presentation of each dish and beverage!
Mark, our server payed every attention to detail to each member in our party! Excellent service 👌
Billy, the owner was interacting with the guests during the whole time we were there, including stopping by our table and chatting, providing a special and intimate experience amidst a bustling and packed house!
If planning a special occasion, I definitely recommend reservations, it can get booked out a couple of week in advance, excellent dining experience!
Some of the best sushi and sushi me I have ever had. The fish was absolutely fresh
The food was very tasty, full of flavor, and drinks were so great! The staff was very friendly and they also are able to answered all our questions what we wanted to order. Such a wonderful experience to go to dinner!
Welcoming staff! During the pandemic (using all safety guidelines), friendly chefs, drinks refreshing, uni like candy!
Thank you Billy Sushi,
Will be back
Best sushi in town! The chef has YouTube videos of himself cutting tuna. If you don't get the ~$100 plate of tuna your first time, you're doing it wrong. Also, plum whiskey and bomb scallop appetizer! Set.
Excellent sushi restaurant! Super hip and fun environment.
Large rolls, fun space, decent sushi but nothing amazing. Go for a good vibe and fun time.
Beautiful place, lots of options, but loud and the food was meh. Come here for the bar and the party, not the food.
Kushiyaki was bland.
The blue wave roll was good.
They ran a special roll with shrimp tempura/tuna, it was bad. Rice was overcooked, no flavors to speak of, just competing textures.
Just ok. Food was overpriced for what it was. Staff was amazing though. Go to Sanjusan or somewhere else and get better food.
Sushi was very fresh and flavorful!
Amazing food and service! Had the server bring us whatever he wanted after giving him a pricepoint and it was an excellent experience.
We come here for dinner every time we are celebrating something. This was our first time sitting at the sushi bar. The sushi chef, Bodka, was outgoing and wonderful to chat with throughout our meal. He gave us great recommendations and was the highlight of our evening. We will definitely be back.
If you want to shut your west coast friends up when they say you can’t possibly have amazing sushi this land locked, this is the place. Jaw dropping good. Staff was great, food and drinks were even better. This place is 5 out of 5. You need to be ready to spend money but anywhere this good you are gonna pay for it.
Food was excellent, however the experience was not. We were notified of a 90 minute dining limit on arrival. We were badgered to place drink and dinner orders every 5 minutes until we ordered. When we did order, our menus were taken as if we didn’t have the option to order more. Items on this menu are costly, and it seemed like poor form to be rushing us through a $250 meal. Instead of a leisurely delicious dinner with friends we were forced to constantly look at the time. Our sever was clearly more interested in turning the table over than providing a memorable dining experience. I would not recommend this place to others for these reasons.
First trip today, but definitely not the last trip.
Thank you Billy for your hospitality !!
The Tuna was amazing !! Ambiance like no other . The staff were all attentive to the tables needs . See you soon Billy’s
The food is spot on, best sushi in the Twin Cities. But the service last time left a bad taste. The waiter kept trying to upsell us. Relax man, we spend $250 for a party of two. No need to sneak in a “freshly grated wasabi” without telling us it’s extra and then charging us for two servings, then forgetting to bring it out until we were halfway done with the sashimi. This is after bringing us a plate of nigiri we didn’t order, then letting it stand on our table for 5 minutes, then picking it up and bringing it to the right table. Eww. It’s unnecessary to, after us having ordered two appetizers, to remind us that we need to order “something crunchy” in addition. Also, if I wanted to try some of your “A5 Wagyu” I’d have let you know. I think this is the first time I’ve been “sold” on a menu. For an upscale restaurant this waiter really did act like he was selling a warranty on a used car.
Cool atmosphere. Service was wonderful. Fun variety of food and drinks that were all delicious!
Will come again! Food outstanding. Service was outstanding!!
Menu a little overwhelming but waiter was so helpful!!!
Good service and reasonable food & drinks. However, a bit noisy and loud. All in all a decent experience. Not sure if I would go again.
10/10 sushi, drinks, ambiance, and staff. Billy is still worth the hype.
Great atmosphere and amazing sushi. It's a pretty busy place that gets full quick on the weekends so I'd recommend calling ahead. The bar area is my favorite, you get to see your food get made in front of you and interact with the cooks.
I brought my 4 year old. Told her sushi was fish and her eyes lit up. Rolls and apps great. My kiddo happily ate the spicy salmon roll but preferred my specialty roll. Aesthetically pleasing from wall art to soy sauce dishes. Absolutely love that there were photos on menu and didn’t feel like I was at Waffle House or Perkins. I truly wish all restaurants did this (especially before blogs and IG).
Amazing restaurant if you're okay spending a little more money for good quality. INCOMPARABLE to any other sushi restaurant in the twin cities! They offer a variety of items from wagyu, to creatively crafted rolls, to varieties of sashimi and more. I would absolutely go there again.
I called in tonight to see how busy they were. The lady insisted she couldn't make reservations or do takeout, but she would be able to fit us in right away. We took 15 min to get there and another 10 min to find the place. We were excited to try it, walking in the lady asked for reservations, I told her we talked to someone on the phone about a quick walk in. She looked around and told us walk-ins were no longer available. We asked how long it was to wait and it would have been a whole hour and some change, so we decided to leave. I'm sure the food is delicious for this place, but it's weird to be told walk-ins are available right away and then walk in to be told they essentially aren't. Its kind of freezing weather right now and we had paid for parking, so it was just already a bum experience. I would definitely recommend not listening to the phone people about walk-ins ever because of how popular the place is and hopping in with a reservation.
EDIT:
Went back after setting a reservation. The overall atmosphere was great and the food was very good and fresh. We had a sushi chef talk to us for most of our meal, so it was really fun. The Omakase was really nice served on ice, it was beautiful and delicious. The waiter was very diligent and generally had a good experience. I appended my review because my experience of this place changed and I generally think people should go, but definitely make a reservation before hand no matter what the lady on the phone says.
I come from eating wonderful sushi in Portland, OR and Seattle, WA and Billy Sushi offers a more compete and delicious experience than any other sushi place I have had.
The Toro-mania was the most amazing specialty roll I have ever had. The quality and spread of the Chef's Sashimi was amazing with an amazing fatty tuna cut in there too.
I’ve been wanting to check this restaurant out for a while. I’m so happy I finally did because it was some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. The service is great and the restaurant is super clean. The quality of the fish was amazing. I’ll be coming back.
I have put on everyone I know to Billy Sushi. The sushi is so fresh and flavorful and ambiance is just right. My favorites are the hot si-fu salad and Silly Billy roll. The only problem is, once you go to Billy, no other local sushi spot compares. Billy Sushi is Minnesota’s best sushi spot, hands down. I said what I said 🚶🏻 …
Billy Sushi is 10/10 fantastic. The food was so delicious I forgot to take pictures. If it's available, you absolutely have to order the YellowTail Cheek. So, so good. Spent a little over $100 per person for split apps, rolls, sashimi, and two drinks each. Very worth it and I can't wait to come back.
Best Sushi in the twin cities area, well worth the cost. Our server, Mike, was excellent. I highly recommend Billy Sushi!
Everything was amazing and outstanding. Make sure you get reservations, they are busy everyday!
Food was great. Server was fantastic. Good cocktails.
The tl;dr on this one is, large portions, average quality, pretty abysmal service (this last one was probably an outlier). If you frequent all-you-can-eat Japanese restaurants in the burbs, you'll be impressed. A bright spot was a solid whisky selection with very reasonable prices for pours.
I'll stick to the place down the block and pay a little more.
Fried chicken was dried and they should use chicken thigh for chicken yaki tori instead of breast.
Sashimi was ok.
Scallop was not fresh.
Excellent place, great location. Billy Sushi doesn't let down as it is the same quality you will find at Sushi Fix. They also have a lot of similar menu items, but that isn't all too surprising since they were started by the same person. Why fix something already outstanding? The Screamimg Demon sake was great, and the other cocktails I had were on point. We got the Poke Bowl, which was superb, and all the sushi we ordered was excellent. If you're looking for sushi and in the area, go here. It's where you want to be!
Staff was quite judgey and not the friendliest.
Fresh, delicious sashimi and rolls! 6/5 if I could give such a rating.
Great sushi! Tons of options! The shishito pepper appetizer was my favorite thing there. Will definetly go again!
This is hands down the best sushi I've had in the state.
Sushi here was delicious! It's a bit pricey but the fish definitely tastes different than other sushi restaurants around town, so I'm not complaining so much. Tables are bit tight, felt like we were less than 6 ft from other ppl, but I know they were trying. Will hopefully come back again soon!

We were a group of 6, enjoying a wonderful night celebrating the recent engagement of our son and his girlfriend. Only one of our group knew anything about sushi. We decided to dine at Billy Sushi because our favorite bartender is working there. I can say that we were all blown away by the atmosphere, service, food, and drinks. There are 5 new people who love sushi now! And 1 who was greatly impressed!! We will be back soon!
As I sit in my car with tears streaming down my face, I still find it in me to give this place 3 stars. The food is 5 stars. Billy himself and his chefs are 5 stars and 2 thumbs up!!! Ive been here once before (about 3 months ago, right after the second covid re-opening) and it was the best experience I had since moving back to Minneapolis. That first experience was a Monday night. I guess mondays are the laid back experience where one gets to interact with Billy himself and the down to earth, humble, welcoming employees are on staff. Tonight I left in tears > it's a Friday night. What a horrible experience. I was so uncomfortable at my table that I got up and left. The front of the house on Friday is, well, not my cup of tea. Rather than being welcoming and service oriented I got the vibe that they are not at my service. It's all started because I questioned the narrative of the "CDC regulations making them take my temperature" at the door. I own a business in the city and that is Not a regulation. Sure, I get it, take my temperature, but don't tell me the the CDC requires it and don't treat me like a second class citizen/Enemy of the State if I ask you for more info on the topic. That put a really bad taste in my mouth and from then on my experience was more like I'm at their service and I should be so grateful to be allowed to be at the cool kids table. "Oh thank you for letting the peasant in the door". We couldn't confirm my reservation and when I found the email confirming it they said, "whatever we have room anyway". Anyway, I had been specific on what I wanted for a table and after being put in the corner I decided I was not comfortable enough to make it through dinner. I got up and left. I started crying while walking out. I've never felt the need to cry due to being in a restaurant. Maybe it's because I was so looking forward to tonight. Maybe it was because my expectations were higher cause I had such a great experience here the first time. This was a shock to the system. It's really sad what has become of customer service due to the mask mandates and the "pandemic". I will have to cancel my reservations for next week where I was planning to bring yet another business owner in the area to meet the amazing Billy and enjoy the best Sushi in town. I have told so many of my clients about Billy's. And I still will, but with a disclaimer.
We had a wonderful experience from stepping into the restaurant to leaving with our bellies filled within an hour on Sunday night! We tried the JFC, Beef Kushi Yaki, Silly Billy, 2-14, Uncultured Swan, Number 9. Portions were good. Our server was very friendly and attentive as well. I will return for more of this quality food and service - highly recommend a visit! :)
Service was great. Sushi was awesome.
Food was absolutely delicious, but the service was below average. Felt rushed the entire time.
Our starters and main dishes arrived at the same time which meant our table was completely full and we had zero room to eat. I ended up having to ask the server to put a dish on the table next to ours. As soon as we finished our last dish, the server took our plate away and immediately returned with our bill. This made us feel like he was "hinting" at us to get moving. I totally understand with the current COVID restrictions, restaurants are required to limit capacity to only 50%, but we were only there for 40 minutes. There was absolutely no reason for rushing us out the door. We just finished a big meal, and wanted to relax a bit but obviously the server wanted us to leave so he could get another customer at our table.
We left feeling extremely disappointed which was sad considering how many people have raved about the service and food.
In summary, the food was excellent but service was terrible.
Best sushi I’ve had in my life! Great atmosphere and very good service. JFC and tempura veggies were so good. Probably the coolest bathrooms in Minneapolis. Drinks were great. Had a great birthday party and can’t wait to come back.
90 minute table time and no dessert. But excellent sushi!!
Really happy to have found this place. It was incredible. I can’t even remember what we ordered, it was just a blur of the best sushi I’ve had in a really long time. Honestly, it’s a good thing we ordered take out, because if I had eaten like that in public, it would’ve been embarrassing. We will definitely order again.
By far the best sushi in Minneapolis. No contest. It's the only place I have found here that uses actual crab instead of imitation crab in their sushi. Not sure why that's even a thing to use fake crab here, but I hate that it's a thing.
Be aware though that they have a weird ordering situation, and you will need to make your reservation well on advance.
High quality fish, great service, everything on the menu was excellent. A new favorite sushi place!
This place is definitely hoppin', so make a reservation. We did, and were seated on-time for a really great dining experience. Creative, delicious, and beautifully presented food and drinks. The only bummer was no desserts. Will definitely be back!
Billy Sushi is my favorite restaurant in Minneapolis. The quality of the sushi is the best in the Twin Cities. The drinks are traditional yet trendy, and the interior aesthetics have LA vibes, filling the rooms with natural wood architecture, stunning art, and an overall trendy atmosphere. I'm obsessed!
My favorite sushi place in the twin cities . Our table shared 6 specialty rolls and they were all incredible. Great atmosphere indoors and top notch service. Worth any wait
Billy Sushi is such a gem in every way! The food, drinks and staff are all phenomenal. Also due to the world we are living in right now I feel I should also mention that they are doing a fantastic job handling COVID. There is a thermal temperature check at the door (why doesn’t every restaurant have this?!) and the social distancing is set up in a way to make you feel safe but also relaxed and able to feel the true ambiance of the restaurant. Last night was my first visit and I’ve already made plans to go back.
Great food, interesting and fun drink concoctions though it is spendy.
My family and I went her for Father's day. The ambience is contemporary yet still warm. Our server Emma was phenomenal. Very attentive, knowledgeable, funny, but not coming over to the point of interupption. We ordered the mistletoe, silly Billy, crunchy roll, lefty, beef udon for entrees. The mistletoe was the best (agreed by all at the table 2 of which don't typically like raw sushi which the mistletoe is). We also ordered all 5 small over pours (each flavor) of sake. The most dry, ie the devils mask, was the group favorite, but true purity and demon slayer were also popular. For appetizers we order the miso soup, shishutsu peppers, seaweed salad, and the jfc. The group loved the peppers and the chicken the most, but, again, all were amazing. Overall a fantastic experience at Billy Sushi and we hope to come back soon!! Highly recommend.
You need to go here! Along with the kind and wholesome crew, the sushi is mouthwatering. I've had a lot of sushi in the US, and this definitely is in the top 3. Really pushing for that #1 spot. And this is in their first 4 days of having the restaurant open! Definitely worth checking out if you're in need of a big lift of spirits, which I think we could all use.
Good. Udon noodles were probably the best dish. Would definitely order them for takeout. Sushi is good quality, but I prefer kado no mise a block away
The absolute best sushi I've had in the US.
Billy is the best! A true passionate business owner and american patriot going out of his way to serve anyone and everyone. We have witnessed him first hand face many struggles during several different trying times in the city, events that truly put him in a struggle trying to run a successful business and being a great honest person. Great food, awesome service (even during COVID this was a much more personal experience than expected). It is apparent from the moment you walk in, to the service, presentation, the delicious food, and watching Billy greet his customers that this is more than your standard sushi restaurant. Thank you for the hospitality, we had a blast Billy and wish you much MORE success in the future to come! Can't wait to come back!
I was too busy stuffing my face to take photos but. Everything was bomb. Bluefin tuna just melts in your mouth. Every roll looks so beautiful you don't even wanna eat it.
Delicious rolls, very nice venue and A+ service. This place really gets busy, better to make reservations but is worthy
Wonderful staff and amazing food. Decided it was finally time to go out on a date with the wife again after months of staying home. Couldn’t have been happier with the evening. Delicious sushi, udon, and these amazing peppers you have to try for yourself!
If you’re looking for great food and wonderful service and of course The legendary Billy himself check out Billy Sushi.
We had a great evening at Billy's Sushi. The service was exceptional. The sauce on the shishito peppers was smoky and sweet, really well balanced. The seaweed salad was refreshing. We tend to stick with nigiri, and don't do a lot of rolls, so didn't try anything unique to Billy's. The nigiri we had was delicious. Great quality fish, rice was nice.
YUM! BOOM! POW! -My Tastebuds
What great atmosphere, service, ambience (fun word), and of course the food. Loved everything about this place from the menu book - had a cool comic in the back - to the music! Thanks for a great night and experience :)
Billy sushi is so trendy right now, naturally I had to book a table for my bfs 30th. Unfortunately we were left with less than a 5 star experience. Got there on time and waited an extra 10-15mins for our table. On a Tuesday the restaurant had already ran out of Uni and Toro, which we were very excited to try. If that wasn’t enough they subbed the toro w/ a different cut of tuna w/o confirming with us. At that point we did not want to make a fuss and send it back, tho still wish they had asked before making it. I have to say the fish we did end up getting is very fresh and my favorite was the ebi (sweet shrimp). Unsure if we’d come back, but would call ahead for toro and uni availability.
Excellent sushi… if you can get a table. Portions are large, and the food is almost as good when used for lunch the next day. From experience. I personally recommend the Naughty Ninja roll. Absolutely delicious.
The new best Sushi place hands down!
Beautiful restaurant and awesome staff. The sushi might be the best I've had between here and the south metro! Its a bit spendy but the quality is unbeatable! The drinks are so very tasty and service was speedy!! You need to try this place!
Food and service was great! I honestly enjoyed my bff plate more.
honestly the best sushi we have ever had, my husband has been all over the country and agrees Billy Sushi is the best. we are very pleased with the service and food, we will definitely be dining here again.
Delicious food, great atmosphere
The blue fin tuna was amazing. The special rolls were delicious. Really enjoyed the upbeat vibe and friendly staff. The menu with pictures of all the special rolls was super helpful too.
They had the A5 Wagyu wrap with snow crab today. This is normally not on the menu, but it is absolutely awesome!!! Poke bowl is really good too. Great service overall.
Great sushi location in Minneapolis - went in during COVID19 and the wait staff were great, very COVID19 familiar and compliant, plenty of sake, and great appetizers and sushi rolls. We had the JFC and Tuna Poki - tuna was super fresh and the JFC was boneless which I prefer. We order three separate rolls and they were all fantastic and fresh (for Minnesota standards). Highly recommend and we'll be back.
Yes, it's expensive. Don't buy sushi at the deli counter at Cub for 2 months and then take the money and go here instead. You won't regret it one bit. This is seriously the most buckwild sushi I have ever had. It literally melts in your mouth. Billy is a magician and I can't go back to life the way it was because I now know about this place.
My wife and I are huge sushi lovers. We’re from the western suburbs and have tried so many...Sushi Fix in Wayzata, Yumi’s in Excelsior, Wakame, Raku, Seven (downtown), Kai’s, Kona, the list goes on and on. We do a “staycation” at a hotel in the city every year and we just so happened to come across Billy Sushi, after looking for restaurants that were nearby. Wow, did we get lucky. We both agreed, that it was the best sushi we’ve ever had. Billy actually worked at Yumi’s and Sushi Fix in the past and now, is killing it with his own place. We met Jeremy before we left and he was super friendly and accommodating as well. The staff and service was perfect and it makes you feel right at home. It’s safe to say that when we’re craving sushi, moving forward, we’ll be making the 20 minute drive to Billy’s every time. They just opened in May and it’s exactly the good news we could all use these days. Oh! I almost forgot...their authentic Japanese cocktails are unbelievable too.
A night to remember.
Billy sat with our table and he's the most unassuming and humble Super Star Chef ever.
Billy's biz partner is an exceptional excellent host.
When the next Billy's opens their next location in either Atlanta, or Brooklyn, the world will be complete!
Amazing sushi place!!!
definitely gonna come back.
Great food and drinks! Atmosphere was fun, server was fantastic. Fish was SOOOO fresh and delicious! The "Billy's live bait" drink was very tasty.
We had a great experience dining at Billy Sushi. The prices are very reasonable for the quality and the service was exceptional. The sashimi was fresh and the rolls were innovative. We can't wait to return!
This place is truly fantastic. The owner is a great guy, stopped by our table and entertained us for quite some time - awesome sense of humor. The food quality is top-notch and the presentation is unique and impressive.
This place is phenomenal!! The food is delicious, plenty of drinks on choose from, presentation and the service were outstanding. Thanks to you all at Billy Sushi for the memorable evening!
Freshest fish I've had in Minnesota, hands down. Also, best nigiri and sashimi I've had in Minnesota. Have been twice, and will go back again.
My only knock was we were told there was a time limit on our table before we even ordered. We felt rushed.
I went with a couple of people for someone's bday- it seemed nice, but, like pre-COVID busy, which I found odd. They had a few non seafood options (I didn't choose the place, and have an allergy) and were really good at dealing with allergy questions/concerns. The main thing I didn't like was that they basically refused to split up checks. Like, I don't carry cash because, who does anymore? And it's kind of spendy, so it's a little much for one person to foot the bill and wait on venmos. I mean, it's not like we're in Vegas or NYC, right?
Love Billy! I have been following him to restaurants starting with Little Sushi, where I first met him.
Eat and Get Out....5:45 Reservation...Checked in with Hostess... Was told we needed to be finished by 6:45
Loved the restaurant atmosphere & music, the sushi rolls were creative and amazing, and I appreciated their large pour of house sake! I also had the sign o the times cocktail which was lovely too!
The hype is warranted. This is some of the best sushi I've ever had anywhere in the us, let alone in Minnesota. Just.beautiful moments of joy.
Accidentally added Wasabi inside our sushi, but remade the entire thing for us. Extra 15 minutes waiting around on my wife's birthday wasnt ideal, but the food was tasty.
Incredible atmosphere and food. I would have to say it was the best sushi that I have ever had. Staff was friendly and helpful. Will make it a regular visit whenever I make it back to town.
Great food! However they don't allow you to pay over the phone for takeout so when you arrive to pick it up you inevitably end up inside, near the host stand, where no one waiting is practicing good social distancing. There were about 6 people there standing inches away from each other.
Excellent sushi and appetizers, very attentive staff, and hopping/energetic atmosphere. Definitely try the seafood salad. Rolls, sashimi, and sake are all great!
Billy is the best sushi chef in Minneapolis. Going to Billy's is the best experience and atmosphere in all of Minneapolis. The food is so good that the restaurant should be nominated for a James Beard award!! 10/10
Great service and atmosphere, we were a walk in near close and it was busy, but were seated promptly and our waiter was great! Sushi was as good as it gets!
Billy Sushi is some of the best sushi in the State. Their high quality is consistent every time we visit.
Billy, thanks for the amazing experience
A couple friends and I went here last night. The food was phenomenal and our service was exceptional. Big shout out to Alex and Haddie for making our experience even more enjoyable. 10/10 will recommend and go again! 🤤 …
Wonderful experience, everyone is so nice and friendly, the food is phenomenal!
Some of the best sushi in town. Bomb appetizers
Great food, atmosphere and drinks! Love sushi & Billy is awesome. Highly recommend as a nice place to go on a date and can be a great spot to casually eat at the bar.
Best Sushi and Sashimi in Minnesota . Take my word. If you are a sushi lover this is the place to go to 😋 …
This is my favorite restaurant in the North Loop. The space is GORGEOUS. Excellent staff and the food is incredible. I’ve been here twice now in the last 3 months and have been so impressed by both experiences. Highly recommend for a wonderful evening out.
Great food and atmosphere. Perfect downtown spot!
The best sushi in the city. Service is so, so good too. Billy’s nephew was so personable and we loved our experience.
Sushi was good. I had the nolo yolo roll. It was super busy. If you are trying to social distance might want to get take out or visit during non peak times.
Simply fantastic. All around wonderful experience. Properly social distanced so we felt safe eating indoors.
Fresh, delicious food with amazing service plus the space it beautifully designed.
Absolutely fantastic - if you have been struggling to find good sushi in Minneapolis, this is the place. Best sushi in town, easily (and we really have tried them all...).
